What about England? Harry Kane remains one of the most feared No.9s in world football and manager Thomas Tuchel has been good to his word on picking collective effort over individual star power. That has meant no Cole Palmer or Phil Foden, while Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice remain elite operators.

Have I Got News for You season 70 is back for an impressive landmark outing.

With its cartoon newspaper style opening credits, theme tune by Big George and revolving set panels - powered by a contraption involving of bicycle chains, apparently - Have I Got News for You has become a Friday night staple since its inaugural episode on 28th September 1990, featuring then-presenter Angus Deayton, team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton and the show’s first guest panellists, comedian Sandi Toksvig and journalist Kate Saunders.

After Deayton’s dismissal in 2002, the series employed a revolving door of high calibre star hosts, while Private Eye editor Hislop and comedian Merton cemented themselves as a rock solid double act with each passing biannual seasonal broadcast.

This week, the satirical current affairs show celebrates a double anniversary, as it reaches its 35th anniversary and launches its 70th series with Only Connect’s Victoria Coren Mitchell in the presenting hot seat - making this her 30th appearance on the programme and 22nd time in the host’s chair.

Waterloo Road season 16 is here - and the big news for the new series is that stand-up comedian Jon Richardson is joining the cast.

Waterloo Road season 16 opens its doors for a new term on Tuesday, 23 September, when eight brand-new episodes land on BBC iPlayer.

Those who want to watch the series terrestrially are in for a treat as, each Tuesday, two episodes will be shown on BBC1 at 9pm, then again at 10.40pm. That's Tuesday nights sorted!

Waterloo Road season 16 cast

The big news for Series 16 of Waterloo Road is that stand-up comedian Jon Richardson is joining the cast.

The star of Meet the Richardsons and 8 Out of 10 Cats had everyone stumped when he announced via his social media earlier this year that he’d be quitting comedy to become a teacher.

There was some truth to his April Fool’s Day prank, however, when the BBC later revealed Jon was going back to school as media studies teacher, Darius Donovan.

"I'd mentioned to producers that I'd found a genuine old diary entry where, aged 15, I’d written: 'I'd love to be a comedian, but I'll probably end up being a teacher' and that’s how that prank video came about,’ Jon, 42, tells What To Watch, who joins regular cast members Lindsey Coulson as head teacher Dame Stella Drake, Adam Thomas as caretaker turned PE teacher Donte Charles, with Jason Merrells back as show favourite Jack Rimmer, in his new position as school counsellor.

"My first day on set was the most scared I've been since I started doing stand-up - but Lindsey, Jason, Adam and others were so kind. What a privilege to be in that cast - it’s like warming up for five-a-side and getting straight into the England team!"

Alongside Jon, Waterloo Road's other new faces include Fintan Buckard and Savannah Kunyo will play Stella's grandchildren, Ben and Hope, while Christine Bottomley appears later in the run as their mum - and Stella's troubled daughter Sam Drake.

The Other One's Christopher Jeffers jumps on board as Mitch Swift, the new SenCo (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator) lead.

Which other show favourites are returning?

Returning staff include James Baxter as languages teacher Joe Casey, Jo Coffey as Stella's PA Wendy Whitwell, Kym Marsh as dinner lady Nicky Walters and Hollie-Jay Bowes as Nicky's sister Debs Rafferty.

They're joined once again by Neil Fitzmaurice as history teacher Neil Guthrie, Rachel Leskovac as English teacher turned deputy head Coral Walker, Shauna Shim as music teacher Valerie Chambers and Ryan Clayton as resident police sergeant - and Joe's husband - Mike Rutherford.

Back for another term of trials and tribulations are Liam Scholes as student Noel McManus, Tillie Amartey as Stace Neville alongside Summer Violet Bird as Tonya Walters, Thapelo Ray as Dwayne Jackson, Scarlet Thomas as Izzy Charles and Cory McClane as Ashton Stone.

Also back are Hattie Dynevor as Libby Guthrie, Lucy Chambers as Libby's sister Cat plus Zak Sutcliffe as reformed bad boy Schuey Weever and Niamh Blackshaw as Schuey's Christian girlfriend Agnes Eccleston.

What do we know about the plot for Series 16?

Well, it seems new boy Darius is marking his territory the minute he arrives at Waterloo Road.

"We first see Darius taking drugs in his car then walking into school - that tells you all you need to know about him as a person," explains Jon. "A womanising sociopath, Darius comes from a military background and sees Waterloo Road as somewhere to put roots down. Early on, however, he’s caught up in a dog-eat-dog scenario that could go one of two ways: either he loses his job or someone else does, so Darius does what he needs to do to survive - and doesn’t feel guilty about it."

Surely that kind of behaviour will come back to bite him?

"Darius always believes he’s just a good guy trying to make the best of bad situations," reveals Jon. "But, later, something truly awful happens - he makes a huge mistake and doesn’t mean for it to spiral as badly as it does. He’s then chasing his own tail, trying to cover it up. Darius is fun to play because he’s confrontational, direct, brave and bold - all things I don't think I am."

What's happening elsewhere?

Stella is distracted as she struggles to integrate her estranged grandkids, Ben and Hope, at the school. With their mother Sam still in hospital, Stella is under pressure to bring her A game at home and at school - but runs into problems when Hope makes a decision that has life-threatening consequences...

"As a grandmother myself, I know you must be extra vigilant when caring for somebody else’s child," says Lindsey Coulson, who plays Stella. "For Stella to know she hadn't been, isn’t a place you’d ever want to go to. Filming those scenes was emotional."

Meanwhile, Cat Guthrie and Izzy Charles lock horns over new boy Ben, as Schuey Weever and Agnes Eccleston cause uproar when they rebel against Stella’s 'inclusive' new rules. And as Jack Rimmer returns as School Counsellor, does he have what it takes to tackle the troubles of a new generation on his first day.

Does Jack form a friendship with new boy Darius?

Darius and Jack bond, yes, over their shared histories of dealing with addiction, as Jon explains...

"Jack has had his problems with addiction and has gone away and dealt with them, Darius feels he’s on top of his own demons, so sees Jack as a kindred spirit - but the pair eventually clash," he says.

"People might be able to understand Darius defending himself when backed into a corner - but what he does to Jack is unforgivable and they’ll begin to hope Darius gets a taste of his own medicine."

Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators is back for its fifth season, with Jo Joyner and Mark Benton reuniting as the popular crime-fighting duo.

They play Stratford-upon-Avon sleuths Lu Shakespeare (Joyner) and Frank Hathaway (Benton). It originally started on BBC1 in 2018, but now its new 10-part run will be premiering on U&Alibi.

Plot

All is not well between the dynamic duo when we join them. Lu has started her own investigation business. "Obviously, it's Lu’s fault," says Mark. Jo: "No, it’s Frank’s fault! We’ve always felt they’re like a couple who’ve been married for 30 odd years - they missed all the romance and went straight to the low-level bickering. The idea is it finally broke them and Lu stormed off and now she’s got herself a nice, bright office full of young people."

Mark adds, “Frank doesn’t want him and Lu to be apart, but he’s so stubborn. He’s always been scruffy but, without her, his whole world disintegrates.”

It’s not good news for their assistant Sebastian, who ends up secretly working for both of them! Jo explains: “Yes, poor Sebastian is running between the two of them, and they both think he’s sided with them! Lu and Frank end up working the same case for two different clients, and they eventually realise that two minds are better than one."

The first case involves feuding married social influencers.

Celebrity Race Across the World is about to return with four new celebrity duos heading on an adventure of a lifetime

The last series was an absolute cracker, and we particularly enjoyed watching Radio DJ Kelly Brook and her ultra-competitive husband Jeremy lovingly bicker throughout the whole journey. She wanted to see the sights, and he wanted to win by going on as many overnight buses as possible. They ended up coming last, so perhaps they should have just spent more time enjoying the fabulous locations!

This time, the celebs are heading to the Caribbean and the Pacific coast of Central America.

The four celebrity duos embarking on the ultimate adventure are: Broadcaster and writer Anita Rani and her dad, Bal; Beyond Paradise actor Dylan Llewellyn and his mum, Jackie; partners, presenter and DJ Tyler West and actor and singer, Molly Rainford; broadcaster Roman Kemp and his sister, singer-songwriter, Harleymoon.

As normal, the celebs will have to survive without their bank cards and smartphones. Instead, they will have to struggle with local transport and limited budgets.

Route

The journey begins on the idyllic and tiny Caribbean island of Isla Mujeres, just off the easternmost point of Mexico. There are stunning beaches and amazing snorkelling opportunities, but the celebs won't have time for that as they're challenged to race 5,900km to reach the finish line in the remote and breathtaking Península de La Guajira in Colombia — the gateway to South America.

The Hack is a new 7-part series on ITV that takes a fresh look at the phone hacking scandal that engulfed the News of the World.

Written by BAFTA, Tony and Olivier award-winning screenwriter, Jack Thorne (the man behind Adolescence and Toxic Town), The Hack is produced by the same team who brought us Mr Bates vs The Post Office and boasts an all-star cast including David Tennant, Robert Carlyle and Toby Jones.

Speaking of the series, Jack Thorne said: "This is a strange and deceptive piece of our recent history. One with so many layers to it. I thought, as someone who is interested in politics, I understood everything that happened. I did not. It’s a fight for the truth that really shocked me. That is why it matters to tell this story now in an age where the truth seems more in danger than ever.

The Hack release date

The Hack will land on ITV1 on Wednesday, September 24 at 9 pm.

All seven episodes of the series will also land on ITVX as a box set on Wednesday, September 24.

The Hack plot

Set between 2002 and 2012, the series intertwines two real-life storylines, beginning with that of investigative journalist Nick Davies (Rivals’ David Tennant), who receives an anonymous tip-off about the News of the World intercepting private voicemails.

As Nick tenaciously gathers evidence of how the paper was using illicit methods to secure splashy headlines, the drama also examines an investigation by Metropolitan Police detective Dave Cook (The Full Monty’s Robert Carlyle, who appears from Episode 2) into the still-unsolved 1987 murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

"Dave’s story was new to me, and we thought it’d be interesting to tell it separately to Nick’s and then twist them together," says BAFTA-winner Jack. "It’s about great journalism and remarkable people who are brave."

Alongside David Tennant as investigative journalist Nick Davies, the cast also features Mr Bates vs The Post Office star Toby Jones as former editor-in-chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger, who becomes Nick’s ally in his crusade. Meanwhile, Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9) plays Rupert Murdoch, whose company, News International, owned the News of the World, and Jordan Renzo (The Spanish Princess) plays his son James Murdoch. The Full Monty’s Robert Carlyle plays Metropolitan Police detective Dave Cook.

How does it feel to be portraying the man who helped uncover one of the UK’s darkest media scandals?
"It’s an honour to be telling Nick’s story. He’s a great investigative journalist because he can smell where the story is and uncover it. He’s like a dog with a bone when he senses injustice, malpractice or deception. The story we tell is that he’s not an uncomplicated individual, but he’s someone who did something very heroic."

Did you meet him?
"We hung out before filming and it was great to get a sense of what motivates him. He fulfilled my expectations. He also visited us on set when I was wearing the wig, which is not a direct copy of how he looks, but a nod in that direction. I think it would be quite odd to see somebody being a spectre of you, but I hope he’s pleased with what we’ve done."

Can you tell us about his dynamic with Alan Rusbridger, played by Toby Jones?
"Jack created that relationship in the way he wrote the two characters, but it’s absolutely based on reality. They have a deference for each other that’s moving. They see how they bring out the best in each other, and playing opposite Toby made that very easy. He’s someone I look up to professionally, and he’s a wonderful, twinkly, warm presence."

The drama boasts an incredible cast, which also includes Katherine Kelly, Eve Myles, Rose Leslie, Dougray Scott, Lee Ingleby and Adrian Lester…
"We have a Rolls-Royce of a cast! People who should be leading a series would come in and play roles with relatively little screen time, but they make so many moments sing. Robert is great casting for Dave, too. We’d never met before this, which is weird as we’re both from the homeland."

And what does telling the story from two different angles bring?
"It’s fascinating and bold, but then Jack does bold storytelling like no one else. Nick and Dave’s stories take you on slightly different journeys, until those two journeys collide. Jack found a way in through these two characters who were living separate lives but discovering the same unpleasant truth. It’s thrilling to watch!"

Cosy crime drama Sister Boniface Mysteries is back for fourth season with Lorna Watson reprising her role as the scooter-riding crime-solving nun who knows her way around a Bunsen burner and this time there are eight new mysteries to solve in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Great Slaughter.

Once again, the bespectacled wimple-wearing sleuth, who has her own forensics lab at St Vincent’s Convent, will be assisting DI Sam Gillespie (Max Brown) and DS Felix Livingstone (Jerry Iwu), along with WPC Peggy Button (Ami Metcalf), as they face more baffling murder cases in this new run of the Father Brown spin-off.

Comedian and actor Lorna Watson first played the forensic-scientist nun in the first series of Father Brown in 2013. She appeared in the second episode of the 10-part run, "The Bride of Christ", which saw her help the sleuthing priest as he investigated the murder of two nuns.

From 2012 to 2013, Lorna and her comedy partner Ingrid Oliver appeared in the sketch show Watson & Oliver on BBC2. They co-wrote the series with Black Books writer Kevin Cecil and comedian and actor Alex Lowe, best known for his comedy character, medium Clinton Baptiste, who first appeared in Phoenix Nights.

Lorna has also appeared in Lead Balloon, Horrible Histories, The IT Crowd, The Catherine Tate Show and Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators.

Max Brown as DI Sam Gillespie

Max plays the detective inspector who has an eye for the ladies – especially journalist Ruth Penny – and relies on Sister Boniface to help him crack cases.

Max made his television debut in 2001, playing heart-throb Danny Hartston in long-running children’s drama Grange Hill.

He went on to have roles in Crossroads, Hollyoaks, Doctors, Casualty, Mistresses, Spooks, Foyle’s War and The Tudors.

In the first Downton Abbey film (2019), he played Richard Ellis, the valet of King George V, who came to stay at the stately home with his wife Queen Mary. Richard was a romantic interest for butler Thomas Barrow.

Jerry Iwu as DS Felix Livingstone

Jerry plays the detective sergeant who travelled from his home country Bermuda to join Scotland Yard in London, but found himself in Great Slaughter by mistake. Initially, he planned to leave as soon as he could, but later couldn’t bring himself to leave the Cotswolds village and its oddball residents.

Jerry’s previous TV credits include 5’s police procedural drama Intruder, ITV1 crime drama Innocent and Netflix hit Sex Education.

He also appeared in the 2017 film Halal Daddy.

Ami Metcalf as WPC Peggy Button

Ami plays woman police constable Peggy Button, who’s often referred to as the best WPC in the county - although the jury’s out if there are any other WPCs in Gloucestershire! She often has to fend off the amorous attentions of her former classmate Norman Whalley, who now works as a news reporter at The Albion Bugle.

Ami rose to fame as Sapphire Cox in BBC1’s long-running soap Doctors and won the Best Dramatic Performance from a Young Actor or Actress at the 2010 British Soap Awards.

She’s also appeared in Bad Education, Call the Midwife, Silent Witness, Father Brown and Birds of a Feather.

Sister Boniface Mysteries season 4 – Other returning cast

The main cast will be joined by the regular supporting cast, which includes Robert Dawes as Chief Constable Lowsley, David Sterne as the indecipherable Tom Thomas, Belinda Lang as B&B owner Mrs Vera Clam, Sarah Crowden as the dotty Miss Dotty Thimble, Jack Gouldbourne as Norman Walley, reporter for local newspaper The Albion Bugle, and Olivia Lovibond as journalist Ruth Penny.

Meanwhile, at St Vincent’s Convent, Carolyn Pickles returns as Reverend Mother Adrian, alongside Virginia Fiol as Sister Reg and Tina Chiang as Sister Peter.

Sister Boniface Mysteries season 4 guest stars

The first episode of the series features former Doctors star Elisabeth Dermott Walsh in a dual role as very different twin sisters, while Dan Skinner, best known for his comedy character Angelos Epithemiou, and Nathan McMullen (Misfits) play American actors Walt North and Brett Hyde, who are the leads in Batman-style show, Foxman.

Later in the series look out for Rab C Nesbitt and Two Doors Down star Elaine C Smith as Mrs Clam’s fun-loving sister Jeanie and former Holby City star Bob Barrett, who played Sacha Levy in the long-running medical drama.

Also guest-starring are, Tony Gardner (Last Tango in Halifax, My Parents Are Aliens), Gordon Kennedy (Absolutely, Robin Hood), Hotel Portofino’s Oliver Dench, Joe Tracini, who’s best known for his role as Dennis Savage in Hollyoaks, and Emily Joyce, who starred in superhero comedy My Hero, which ran for six seasons from 2000 to 2006.

During this fourth season of Sister Boniface Mysteries, a bucking bronco goes haywire on the set of a game show, a killer scarecrow stalks the streets of Great Slaughter and the diva co-star on American action series Foxman plummets to her death in a stunt gone wrong. Meanwhile, Reverend Mother Adrian is hiding a secret about the future of St Vincent’s Convent and CC Lowsley arranges a team-building exercise… Here’s more about the eight-part series.

EPISODE 1 – BIFF! POW! ZAP!

American TV show Foxman is filming its series finale at Lord Matthew Sedgewick’s (Sam Alexander) stately home. Walt North (Dan Skinner) plays Foxman, but he is less than gracious to Brett Hyde (Nathan McMullen), who plays sidekick Beaver, frequently upstaging him. To make matters worse, dedicated producer/director Hank Sawyer (David Bedella) has hired the biggest diva in England to play the Minx, Camilla Cattermole (Elisabeth Dermot Walsh). Camilla is instantly attracted to Sam (Max Brown), but he is drawn to her long-suffering twin sister and stunt double, Jane (also played by Elisabeth Dermot Walsh).

Later, when Camilla insists on doing a stunt on a zipline, the rope snaps and she plummets to her death. Swooping in to investigate, Sister Boniface discovers it was an act of sabotage. By why, and by whom?

EPISODE 2 – A MURDER OF CROWS

It’s the annual Scarecrow Festival in Great Slaughter and the locals proudly display their scarecrows hoping for a chance at nabbing the £500 cash prize.

Martin Hubbard (Tony Gardner) is the favourite to win the annual Scarecrow Festival with his effigy of Winston Churchill and will stop at nothing to come out on top.

Later, however, he’s found dead with a mouth stuffed with straw!

As Sister Boniface and Sam investigate, their main lead is Miss Dotty Thimble, who claims a scarecrow killed Martin.

She may be Dotty by name and dotty by nature, but could Miss Thimble be right? Especially after intrepid reporter Norman Whalley also spots a scarecrow seemingly coming to life.

Is there really a killer scarecrow on the loose in Great Slaughter?

EPISODE 3 – ARE YE DANCIN’?

Mrs Clam’s (Belinda Lang) sister Jeanie McIntyre (Elaine C Smith) returns to Great Slaughter after decades living in Scotland. She’s planned a surprise birthday ceilidh for Mrs Clam and has travelled down with jovial husband Angus (Gordon Kennedy) and their musician son Callum (Calum Gulvin).

They are joined by the rest of the ceilidh band; the severe John Adams (John Mackay) and his children, Jimmy (Joseph Prowen) and Maggie (Alyth Ross).

After John forbids the siblings from going out for the evening, they sneak out to the pub for a sing-song, but their furious dad soon storms in and drags them away in front of the other punters.

The next morning, John’s body is found slain under the cake table in the village hall…

With a list of suspects, including Angus, Callum, Jimmy and Maggie, to get through, can Sister Boniface locate the murder weapon and identify the killer?

EPISODE 4 – KILLER HEELS

As the launch of Groovy Shoo’s fashionable new go-go boot approaches, the women working in the factory are informed they must work longer hours by tight-fisted owner Arthur Millington (Peter Wight).

Union leader Bernice McDowell (Dani Moseley) complains that they should be paid overtime, but her hard-up friend Daisy Dunn (Amy Murphy) doesn’t want to rock the boat.

When Arthur is later found dead on his office floor, Sister Boniface smells bitter almonds and deduces that he was poisoned!

As the women’s pay dispute leads to a strike, Sister Boniface is hot on the heels of a killer as she must navigate the picket line while trying to find out who murdered Arthur…

EPISODE 5 – LET THE GAMES BEGIN

Game show Let The Games Begin is filming in Great Slaughter and CC Lowsley has his eyes on the cash prize to raise funds for the retired police dog charity.

As Lowsley pairs up with Mrs Clam, Felix teams up with spiky aspiring actress Denise (Keturah Chambers) and Norman forms the third duo with Miss Thimble.

Turns out the show’s host Freddie Fuller (Jonny Weldon) isn’t as charming as he is on TV, especially to his PA Malcolm Everett (Joe Tracini) and glamourous assistant Angela Ainsworth (Hayley Johnston). And when Freddie announces that the show is moving to the USA, producer Giles Penistone (Bob Barrett) is fuming.

When a Bucking Bronco goes out of control on the set of the popular game show, Sister Boniface finds herself investigating a murder that was intended for Freddie…

With Freddie having narrowly avoided death, can our sleuth find the killer before they strike again?

EPISODE 6 – THERE’S NO ‘I’ IN SLAUGHTER

Sam, Felix and Peggy aren’t exactly cock-a-hoop when they find themselves spending a weekend at an old army base,

It’s been organised by CC Lowsley with ex-cop Len Shepherd (Phil Cornwell) leading them in a series of team-building exercises.

Great Slaughter’s cops will be competing against their Stowington Police rivals, with Lowsley’s enemy, CC Horace Winthrop (Mark McDonnell), leading the team, who he frequently undermines. And it soon becomes clear he has beef with Len, too.

When Winthrop is later found dead, it looks like his death was an accident, but Sister Boniface soon finds evidence to the contrary…

EPISODE 7 – THE HAPPIEST FAMILY

Reverend Mother Adrian surprises the sisters with a wholesome weekend away. However, they soon encounter a group of naked hedonists frolicking in the swimming pool!

The house where they are staying has been double-booked with Charity Gray (Genesis Lynea) having booked her stay to celebrate her birthday with inventor Miles Fletcher (Oliver Dench), hairdresser Vivian Ashbrook (Sophie Ablett) and Dr Saatvik Bose (Jaz Singh Deol).

Surprisingly, the Reverend Mother claims there is room for all and they should continue with their plans.

Sister Reg knows Charity from her pre-nun life in Soho, and she’s not best pleased when her former acquaintance teases her about her past indiscretions.

The next day, when Charity is found dead in her bed, the evidence stacks up against Sister Reg…

Can Sister Boniface clear her fellow nun's name and find the real killer?

EPISODE 8 – AND THEN THERE WERE NUN

It looks like the end of an era for the nuns of St Vincent’s, when Reverend Mother Adrian and Lord Matthew Sedgewick hand over the keys to property developer Ronny Panesar (Alistair Toovey).

As town councillor Lynn Goodwin (Emily Joyce) reveals the model for the new housing development to Ruth Penny, Sam is devastated that this will mean parting company with Sister Boniface.

Meanwhile, Sister Boniface’s heroine, archaeologist Sister Helena (Rachel Bell), wants to document the chapel before the historic interior is ripped out, but a row breaks out between her and Lynn and Ronny, and a few hours later the sister is found bludgeoned to death in the chapel.

Can Sister Boniface catch the killer before the nuns are forced to leave Great Slaughter for good?

Q&A with Lorna Watson, who plays Sister Boniface

Hi Lorna, so you’re back as Sister Boniface, in her habit and wimple…

"Yes. I love the costume. You transform as soon as you put it on. It just changes the way you move and it changes the way you listen because everything's a bit muffled under the wimple. You get used to it but when you take it off at the end of the day, it's like hatching out of an egg. Suddenly you can hear and the world is different! I'm still getting rid of the tan line from the wimple. Even if you wear sun cream, you still get an embarrassing 'nun tan line' on your face! It's not the best, but my hair covers it, which is great."

What can you tell us about the fourth series?

"A lot happens in this series. I'm always amazed by what the writers come up with next. An overarching theme of the series is that all is not what it seems at the convent. There is this slight panic for the Reverend Mother, who goes on quite a journey in this series because it looks like we may lose the convent. She's trying to keep things running smoothly and keep a tight ship, but the nuns are none the wiser up until a certain point. ‘Nun the wiser!’ Ha!"

What can you tell us about some of the mysteries that Sister Boniface is faced with this time around?

"There’s such a diverse range of stories. Opening the series, we have this sort of homage to the 1960s Batman show called Foxman. It’s called Biff! Pow! Zap! It’s about this American series, Foxman, that is shooting its series finale at this stately home in the Cotswolds. And there's a murder, naturally, or we wouldn't bother turning up! We had so much fun filming that episode. Dan Skinner and Nathan McMullen star as the actors Walt North and Brett Hyde, who play Foxman and his sidekick Beaver, and they played those characters so brilliantly. Elisabeth Dermot Walsh [who played Zara in Doctors] plays twins in that episode, too. I don’t know how she did it. It was extraordinary. But yeah, so we had a lot of fun. It was so much fun."

Tell us about some of the other episodes…

"We also have Mrs Clam’s surprise birthday with [Two Doors Down star] Elaine C Smith playing her sister. Then there’s a game show episode where Miss Thimble, Norman Whalley, Mrs Clam and CC Lousey all have to team together, and they have to do various silly things like dancing the tango and so on. Obviously, there’s another murder. Also, the nuns leave the convent. Reverend Mother Adrian's feeling so guilty about everything that's going on, she decides to treat them to a trip. Basically, they arrive at this lovely retreat, only to find it's been double booked, and they have spend their weekend there with these people who are a bunch of people that the nuns wouldn't normally hang out with, let's just say. The nuns end up in a swimming pool at the end, which is something I never thought I’d see on this show!

"There’s also a really lovely episode where the female workers in this boot factory are sick and tired of not having equal pay and the same rights as their male counterparts. They stage a strike, and Mrs Clam gets very vocal on the loud hailer, which is just brilliant!"

Sister Boniface is often seen drifting into a daydream or a trance. Are there more of those moments in this series?

"Yes, those bits are really fun and quirky, and really quite unique. I don't know any other show that does that. But it is a fun way of showing the audience where Sister Boniface’s brain is going, and it’s nice to see it broken down in layman's terms, with visuals to back it up. It’s a good way of showing how she's linking thoughts, linking clues and so on. We don't get an insight into her brain otherwise and it’s nice to show that in a lighthearted way. It’s a little bit of light relief, a bit of silliness. We always enjoy doing them, that's for sure, and just when you think they couldn't get any dafter, they do!"

Talking of silliness, in the first episode, Sister Boniface describes Foxman as a slice of silliness. Do you think that’s a good way of describing Sister Boniface Mysteries as well?

"Yes it does. I'm a big fan of silly. My whole career has been a bit silly, really. And I like the fact that there are contrasts in the show. There are really tender moments, there are dramatic moments, there are edge of your seat moments and there are serious moments. And to sandwich those moments with a slice of silly I think is good for the show. It's nice for the audience, and I think it also is what helps this show have that more palatable. It is about murder at the end of the day!"

You were just talking about ‘tender moments’ and in the first episode there’s a lovely moment where Sister Boniface voices what Sam means to her…

"I really loved that. And there is another tender moment between Sam and Sister Boniface later in the series, too. Until now, they have this unexpected but lovely working relationship and friendship. It's really nice to explore what they mean to each other. They're not usually very demonstrative, but they definitely have each other's backs. He’s very protective of her, and she looks out for him. To have an episode where they put it into words is very lovely to see and certainly lovely to play. We both enjoyed exploring that. I hope I wasn't too snotty nosed!"

A running joke of the series is Miss Thimble and her horrendous culinary creations. And she's at it again with more bizarre fare, including a three-tier birthday cake with a layer of liver and onion meatloaf! Has anyone ever been tempted to sample her wares?

"I seem to recall a Thimble spread of strange delicacies in the first episode. There was all sorts going on. Never at any point did I feel tempted to try any. But it is a running joke that I love and I’m always intrigued to see what they come up with. I don’t think they are safe for human consumption."

Tell us about filming the series in the Cotswolds. You must miss it when you're not there?

"It's really magical and I think, because we're four seasons in now, we are like a massive family and it’s a big old reunion every year. Everyone knows each other very well now, cast and crew. It's a really lovely working environment. I mean the guest cast often comment on it actually. They say how friendly, warm, funny, fun it is to work on the show. And that backdrop, it just never gets old. It's so beautiful there. We do work long hours, but who cares? You're in the Cotswolds, in the sunshine and it’s lovely. I can't complain. I feel very lucky."

Viewers are hoping Coldwater season 2 could be on its way to ITV, after the first series of the psychological thriller ended on a tantalising cliffhanger!

The show created by celebrated playwright David Ireland proved a hit with viewers after reaching our screens in September and many have wondered if we could be returning to the town of Coldwater one day.

The first series told the story of John (Andrew Lincoln) and his family, who moved from London to rural Scotland after a traumatic incident, only to find themselves caught in the clutches of his sinister new neighbour, Tommy (Ewen Bremner).

Despite his success writing for the theatre, this was Ireland's first TV thriller and he said he'd be open to doing a sequel...

"I'd never really written this kind of stuff before so I never even thought of a second series initially," he told us when we spoke to him in the summer of 2025.

"I couldn't even imagine how you set up for a second series, but as I got towards the end writing the last two episodes of the first series, I thought it would be good to keep this going if possible, because I do find the characters really fascinating. It would be great to keep them going for a few more seasons!"

So will there be a Coldwater season 2? Here's everything we know..

Will there be a Coldwater season 2?

David Ireland is keen to make more and the show's stars are also open to the idea of reprising their characters and returning to Coldwater...

"I would love for that to happen and for us to make some more," said Ewen Bremner, who played Tommy, when we spoke to him earlier this year.

Meanwhile Eve Myles, who played Tommy's wife Rebecca, also hinted that she'd be keen to continue the story if the opportunity arose.

"This was certainly a series that we all thoroughly enjoy doing," she explained. "It felt like a very different type of of drama that will hopefully take people by surprise and connect with people."

Coldwater season 2 plot

The finale of Coldwater season 1 was very open and after Tommy was finally unmasked as the man behind the murders of Angus and his father Nathan (plus how many others?) he escaped and went on the run.

His wife Rebecca (Eve Myles) had clearly been complicit in many of his crimes. She lied to the authorities after he fled, claiming she'd been living in fear of her husband, yet we're convinced she still loves him.

Indeed one of the final scenes of the series saw her watching John (Andrew Lincoln) menacingly while he attended a bible study group in her house.

It seems she might believe John is responsible for shedding light on Tommy's crimes and is planning revenge. Either way, we're sure Tommy is desperate to get back at the man who helped finally bring him down and if he is, we think Rebecca would help him.

We also saw Tommy's son, Cameron (Samuel Bottomley), calling him in the closing stages of the series, suggesting he still believes his father has been framed. Could he be persuaded to help his old man take revenge?

One person who didn't seem convinced about Rebecca's innocence was John's wife Fiona (Indira Varma), who could hold the key to revealing the truth about her.

Meanwhile, the murder of Coldwater sex worker Susie Bissett still remains unsolved several decades later. It's assumed Tommy knows something about that, but is it a case a second series could look at?

Coldwater season 2 cast

The first season of Coldwater was Andrew Lincoln's first British drama for nearly 15 years, so whether the star of AMC The Walking Dead would be keen go straight into a second series remains to be seen.

Having said that it would be possible to come back for a second series without his character. A sequel could simply focus on the hunt for Tommy, while maybe looking back at his past crimes?

After exploring the cultural treasures of Venice, Florence and Rome in their BAFTA-winning Grand Tour of Italy last year, Rob Rinder and Rylan Clark jumped at the chance of embarking on another odyssey for BBC2.

Rob and Rylan’s Passage to India, inspired by EM Forster’s 1924 novel, begins in Delhi, where the bustling capital’s diverse and vibrant art scene soon leads them towards a whole world of different experiences.

Speaking about his new show, Rylan told us: "Grand Tour was about following in the footsteps of [Romantic poet] Lord Byron – Rob’s a big fan of Byron’s work, so we wanted to keep that theme going and another of his literary heroes is EM Forster, so A Passage to India just made sense. I’ve still not read the book – and until about halfway through Delhi, I thought his name was ‘Ian’, not ‘EM’!"

The Rumour is a new five-part thriller, based on the bestselling novel by Lesley Kara, and is set to have you on the edge of your seat from the very first epsiode.

On her first day in a new job, Joanna stumbles across a post on an online forum that claims a woman called Sally McGowan, who was convicted of murder when she was a child, is living there under a new identity.

However, when Joanna brings up the rumour with a group of school mums, there are devastating consequences for the community and Joanna herself as the whispers grow louder and suspicions spiral.

"I loved the ordinariness of Joanna," says Rachel Shenton, who plays her. "You see these shows all the time on TV where a character will be brilliant at something, a brilliant detective, a brilliant doctor, but with Joanna what I found intriguing was there is none of that. She doesn’t have a particularly good job, house, wardrobe or lifestyle. She is just trying to make her life work like everybody else, she’s very relatable.

"You see her becoming completely obsessed trying to work out the truth. It’s like an itch that she can’t help but scratch. Her relentless pursuit of the truth becomes a major part of the story. People get hurt and lose their lives because of hearsay. The story shows just how much damage gossip can do."

Much of the series was filmed in Budapest, Hungary which doubles as Flinstead.

"It was my first time there and I wish I’d had some more downtime to explore," says Rachel. "On the occasional day off I had a wander along the Danube, which was very beautiful. I was pregnant with my son at the time and so was probably a bit more tired than usual but I was lucky that I wasn’t suffering from morning sickness. The cast managed a couple of dinners out together."

The Battle of Hastings might be over, but King and Conqueror season 2 could be on its way to our screens!

James Norton and Kitty Kaletsky, co-founders of Rabbit Track Pictures, told What to Watch conversations were already taking place about a potential sequel.

The first series told the story of how Harold, Earl of Wessex, and William, Duke of Normandy, jostled for power before finally facing off for the English throne in 1066.

Harold famously met his maker on the battlefield, while William became King of England, signalling the end of the Anglo-Saxon period.

Yet while that chapter of English history came to an end that day in Hastings, another was just beginning.

"There's runway," explained Norton. "We've got incredible characters in William, Matilda, Edith and the other characters that are left, so we'll see."

Will there be a King and Conqueror season 2?

"We'll have to see how the show goes down with audiences," said Norton when we spoke to him in August. "But who knows? There's a thousand years of history, we could just go and go and go..."

One major decision in making a new series could be how well the show has done beyond Britain and Norton says the show has proved very popular globally.

"The show has sold incredibly and it seems there's an appetite globally for this type of history, we've done a lot of Tudors and we've seen a lot of recent history with The Crown, but we've not really gone back to the 11th century much."

King and Conqueror season 2 release date

The second series hasn't been commissioned yet, but we'll be sure to let you know if there's any news on that front!

King and Conqueror season 2 plot

James Norton and Kitty Kaletsky were quite vague on the "conversations" they'd been having, but it seems William's reign from 1066 to 1087 could be one of the potential subjects.

"William goes on to ransack England, which would make a dark second series," he says. "But we wouldn't focus on that necessarily. There's a lot of history there and it's all really interesting."

Norton also wondered if a second series could focus on the women in the story.

"Edith, Gytha and the women, we could make it a gals' story," he continued. "It could be Queen and Conqueress!"

However, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays William in King and Conqueror, hinted at a very interesting narrative arc when we spoke to him in exclusively in August.

"A lot of things happen after the Battle of Hastings, that's for sure," he explained. "The way William took England and suppressed the country is so ruthless, but the irony is that the uprising against him came from his own son!"

Death Valley season 2 is officially on the way, which means more cases for Wales’s most unlikely crime-fighting duo.

Timothy Spall returns as retired actor John Chapel alongside Gwyneth Keyworth as detective sergeant Janie Mallowman.

Death Valley season 2 is filming now, so we'd expect it to be shown in early 2026. But the BBC is yet to confirm this.

We'd expect season 2 to explore John's relationship with Janie's mum! It was revealed at the end of Death Valley season 1 that the pair had started dating, which Janie wasn’t too impressed about. Janie's mum, Yvonne (Melanie Walters), is a great character.

Hopefully, we also might get to see a bit more of Tony the desk sergeant (Mike Bubbins) and Janie's pathologist pal Baxter (Alexandria Riley), who wasn't given a huge amount to do in the first series. Might we also see some romance for Janie? The first series had some great guest stars, including Car Share's Sian Gibson and Ghosts actor Kiell Smith-Bynoe, so we’d expect more top names for season 2.

Hopefully, we will also see more of another Ghosts actor, Jim Howick. He popped up very briefly in the first series as Constable Atkins in John's TV show Caesar.

The Inheritance release date

The Inheritance starts on Sunday, August 31 at 9 pm on Channel 4, continuing on Monday, September 1 at 9 pm and Tuesday, September 2 at 9.30 pm. That's three episodes a week to make sure you don't miss any drama!

What's the aim of the game?

A game of wit, wisdom and sheer hard graft, The Inheritance is best described as the lovechild of The Traitors and The Apprentice.

As the series begins, 13 strangers are summoned to a grand stately home in Dorset, where they’ll compete for share of the fortune left in The Deceased’s will - and she’s designed a deviously difficult game to ensure that only the most cunning can get their hands on it.

Who's playing The Deceased?

The glamourous benefactor at the heart of the show, known as The Deceased is portrayed by actor, model and national treasure Elizabeth Hurley.

She's very much alive and well and ready to put these wannabe beneficiaries through their paces.

"At first, my character wasn't glamorous… she was very old - but they changed that, then added Robert and this stately home into the mix and I thought it was fabulous," teases Elizabeth, 60, at the official launch of the show at The Ned hotel in London. "I watched an episode of The Traitors and loved it, so I'm grateful to have been asked. Because my parts are pre-recorded [The Deceased sets out the rules of her requests from beyond the grave] it’ll be exciting for me to watch it play out."

Who is The Executor of The Inheritance?

Acting as The Executor is everyone’s favourite TV barrister Robert Rinder, who’ll oversee proceedings as the 13 players work as a team to complete The Deceased’s final requests, a series of challenges designed for players to win a share of her considerable fortune.

"I’ve experienced the full buffet of cases in my legal life, and barristers need to have an intuitive sense of how all kinds of people are going to behave," says Robert, 47. "This show explores how people might react when you put a fortune in front of them; how they might approach issues of fairness, how they might mislead people and what they might do when people aren’t looking."

As they say, there's no such thing as a free lunch and the players will be put to the ultimate test emotionally, physically and mentally to win a share of The Deceased's fortune. So what sorts of challenges can viewers expect for these 'final requests'?

"The requests are very fitting for this lady and her estate,' says Elizabeth. "For example, the first one relates to sourcing and bottling wine; everyone has to put on diving suits and plunge into this hideous lake. The Deceased comes up with a whole host of interesting things for these poor people to do - all of which she would’ve done herself. Obviously."

How lovely that the team has to work together to literally share the wealth...

Hmm... Not quite. You see, there's a catch: Only one player can be named Prime Beneficiary from each request and they must convince the others that they alone should take all the money they earned as a group. The Inheritance is not about who deserves the cash - but who can outsmart the rest to claim it!

So how exactly is the Prime Beneficiary chosen?

Once each of The Deceased's requests is complete, players gather for the Division Ceremony, with a brave few stepping forward to make the claim to be Prime Beneficiary and take all the money they earned as a team.

As discussions - and arguments - ensue, The Executor is casting a watchful eye on proceedings...

"At first, I was very much playing a part of The Executor but then it started to really matter to me that any encounters I had with these participants were real, just as it would be putting someone on the spot in the witness box," says Robert. "It’s not just about winning the money; there are a number of emotional, psychological and sociological elements, too. I’m rarely surprised by anything but what transpires really did alter my perception of how I believed people behaved."

Where is The Inheritance filmed?

The Inheritance is filmed at a grand country estate in Devon, which enabled Elizabeth to fully immerse herself into the character of The Deceased.

"The fact we were getting dressed and made up in that big house made a real difference," she says. "It is exquisite and a real treat to be there. And we had an amazing costumier, Miranda Almond, who found the most fabulous couture. I knew I wouldn’t need to see any photos or do any fittings beforehand - I trusted she was going to bring me great dresses and she did!"

Michelle Keegan leads an all-star cast in The Blame, an upcoming ITV drama that dives into the secrets, suspicion and systemic corruption of a quiet town.

Keegan plays DI Emma Crane, who begins an investigation with her partner DI Tom Radley (Douglas Booth) after the mysterious death of a teenage girl.

The six-part series, which boasts a stellar support cast including Ian Hart and Ceallach Spellman, is based on the debut novel of the same name by Charlotte Langley. It will be adapted for the screen by Megan Gallagher.

ITV has confirmed The Blame is scheduled to begin filming in and around London in the summer of 2025.

Eight new pairs of ordinary people are bracing themselves to be shaken and stirred as they embark on an exciting James Bond-inspired global adventure in season two of Prime Video’s 007: Road to a Million.

007: Road to a Million S2 release date

This hotly anticipated second series of 007: Road to a Million is available on Prime Video, with all eight episodes landing on Friday, August 22.

Who's fronting the series?

Succession star Brian Cox is back in the hot seat as The Controller and this time the stakes are even higher as the duos must now compete directly against each other - rather than individually - in a series of physical, psychological and strategic 007-style missions against the clock, with the poorest performing pair each episode being eliminated.

Talking about what's new for series two, Brian says: "There's more interaction between me and the contestants and the show is infinitely more Bond-related. I now have an assistant in the control room which feels very Bond. She gives me information on the contestants as I watch them on monitors - it’s more dramatic than last time."

What kinds of challenges will the contestants be up against?

From scaling towers in Bangkok to wreck diving with sharks in the Bahamas, each location is straight out of a Bond movie.

In the first episode, contestants bungee-jump off Luzzone Dam in Switzerland, re-enacting actor Pierce Brosnan's iconic leap as Bond off the Verzasca Dam in 1995 film GoldenEye…

"The contestants really get to see and do some extraordinary things - it’s a sheer spectacle, but it also confirms to me why I’m in the control room and not doing the competition!," says Brian. "I’d never bungee jump in a million years - but one person's definition of fun is quite different from another's!"

As well as having to embrace the physical side of the challenges, the change in gameplay means that the couples will now get to play mind games with each other...

"I'd be good at that," says Brian. "That's where I’d excel, because I understand how people tick, and their strengths and weaknesses. It’s quite hard to know who's actually going to win. I'm not very good at predicting that because all sorts of things can happen along the way."

And, as The Controller, Brian's job is to toy with the duos and exploit any weaknesses...

"I suppose that’s part of my character as The Controller; the cat and mouse thing," he says. "There’s a father and son who made a mistake at one point and I felt very empathetic. The Controller is not openly compassionate, but he's not without sensibility and sensitivity to who these contestants are."

Presumably, there are eliminations. How do they work?

The two slowest pairs on each mission must face off against each other in the Killer Question - an immersive, high-tension brain-teaser that will result in one pair being eliminated.

At the end of the series, having defeated all their rivals, the final surviving couple face The Controller in person in London to get their hands on the whopping £1 million prize.

"That puts people into a very pressured situation, that I personally would never want to put myself into," admits Brian. "I'm not very competitive in that way. I see why people want to do these things but I reserve judgement and get on with my job - which is to be controlling!"

Then in December 2024 Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon's media company, posted that she show had wrapped filming.

Benjamin Caron is the director of Night Always Comes. This is the second feature movie directed by Caron. His previous movie directing credit was for the Apple TV Plus original movie Sharper. Ryder Cup 2025 takes place over three days, from Friday, September 26, to Sunday, September 28.

The Ryder Cup 2025 is being played at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y.

The location of the Ryder Cup changes each year, with the US and Europe alternating each tournament. The last tournament in 2023 took place at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Italy, and the 2021 tournament was played at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

This will be the first time that the Ryder Cup takes place at Bethpage Black, which first opened in 1936, but the course is no stranger to big events. It has hosted two US Opens and a PGA Championship, as well as a handful of other PGA Tour events.

Team USA and Team Europe consist of 12 players each. Six players for each team automatically qualify based on points earned over the course of the golf season (Team USA and Team Europe use different point systems). The remaining six players are captains' picks.

Ryder Cup 2025 captains

The captains for the Ryder Cup 2025 are Keegan Bradley for Team USA and Luke Donald for Team Europe.

Bradley has been on the PGA Tour since 2011, over which time he has amassed eight wins on the PGA Tour, including a PGA Championship in his rookie season, which helped him to earn PGA Rookie of the Year honors. He previously played on Team USA in the Ryder Cup in 2012 and 2014.

Bradley's selection as captain was an interesting one, as he was in the running for a spot on the team in 2023 but just missed out. Now he has the chance to be on the team as a player/captain. 10th in the points standings at the beginning of August, his play this season makes a strong case for him to make himself a captain's pick if he doesn't qualify automatically. If that happens, he would be the first player/captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963.

As for Team Europe's captain, they are keeping things consistent as Donald is the team's captain for the second straight Ryder Cup after helping deliver a win in 2023. This is the first time that Team Europe has had a captain for back-to-back Ryder Cups since Bernard Gallacher, who served as their captain for three straight Ryder Cups from 1991-1995. Donald is also trying to become the first Team Europe captain to win back-to-back Ryder Cups since Colin Montgomerie, Jose Marie Olazabal and Paul McGinley won three straight from 2010-2014.

Ryder Cup format

There are three days of Ryder Cup competition that determine who wins the event, with three variations of match play used for the tournament:

Four-ball: each member of a two-man team plays his own ball, with the lowest score of the hole for each team counting as the team’s official score. The team that has the lowest score on a hole wins that hole. If the two teams have the same score, then the hole is halved.

Foursomes: each two-man team plays one ball per hole, with the players taking turns until each hole is complete. Players alternate hitting tee shots. The team with the lowest score on a hole wins that hole. If the two teams have the same score, then the hole is halved.

Singles: every player from each team competes in 12 head-to-head matches. The player with the lowest score on a hole wins that hole. If the players have the same score, then the hole is halved.

Thing to note, players can concede a hole to their opponent, meaning they let their opponent pick up their ball without putting it in the hole, giving them the score they would have made had the next stroke gone in the hole (i.e., if a player had a tap-in putt for birdie, the opponent conceding that would mean the player earns the birdie automatically).

Friday and Saturday during the Ryder Cup will consist of four matches of four-ball and four matches of foursomes each day, while Sunday will see 12 singles matches taking place.

For match scoring, winning a hole gives a player/team one point, halving a hole means no one gets any points. Here’s a quick breakdown of how tallying points would work:

• Each match begins "all squared"
• If Team USA won the first hole, they would be up one in the match
• If Team Europe won the second hole, the match would then be all squared again
• If the team leading wins another hole before their opponent does, they increase their lead (two up, three up, etc.). Any hole won by the opponent decreases their lead
• If a hole is halved, the match remains at whatever score it was when the hole started

Whoever is leading the match after 18 holes wins the entire match and earns a tournament point for their team. If a match is tied after 18 holes, then each team gets half a point. Matches can end before 18 holes if it is not mathematically possible for the other team to get the match back to all square at the conclusion of the 18th hole (for example, Team USA is up four holes with three to play).

There are 28 matches in total as part of the Ryder Cup. For Team USA to win the Ryder Cup in 2025, they must earn at least 14 ½ points from all those matches. As the defending champion, Team Europe can retain the cup if they earn at least 14 ½ points or if the event ends in a 14-14 tie.

As the dating pods reopen, 30 singles mingle — well, date with a wall dividing them - relying on conversation alone to get to know each other.

Not all of our flirty 30 will form connections — but there will be some who meet their match, fall in love and get engaged: and it's only then that they finally meet!

Is Love is Blind UK S2 as good as S1?

Matt certainly thinks so.

"We loved season one so much; you fall in love with these people and invest your time in them," he explains. "So when you're starting over again, you think: 'Are we going to feel the same about this new bunch and is the show gonna hit the same?' But it does. It really delivers."

Love is Blind UK S2: Are the contestants really in it for love? Or fame and fortune?

"Yeah, because it's a legally binding wedding at the end of it," says Emma, who was the host of Big Brother between 2013 and 2018.

"Maybe I've been around reality TV for too long, but I feel like gone are the days where you have major fame from a reality show - like in the early days of Big Brother where Nasty Nick was on the front page of The Sun newspaper for writing a note!

"If you do go on to it because you want a little bit of publicity, you might have your moment, but what's going to overshadow it are the people that are here for the real reasons, like Bobby and Jasmine from season one, who are now having a baby. Like, how amazing is that!?"

Do Emma and Matt give the couples any advice?

"No, we don't get involved," admits Emma. "What we get from hosting this show is a couple of little holidays on our own without the kids. It gives us time together."

"I'd love to say this is hard work," adds Matt, "but it's the best gig in the world. Working with my wife is awesome! Do I think we could've fallen in love through a wall? Yeah, I think so. I've been with her since I was 21. She's my type - I don't have any other type!"

The Oscar-winning actor gave an interview with Variety where he addressed an idea that some fans have about him only playing characters like himself; in a fun bit of meta, that is a question his Jay Kelly character is asked in the movie. While parallels are likely easily drawn, with Baumbach and an ensemble of well-known stars alongside Clooney, we’d wager there’s a bit more to this than Clooney playing a fictional version of himself.

Riot Women (BBC One and BBC iPlayer)

The six-parter Riot Women is by Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack writer Sally Wainwright follows a group of spirited middle-aged Yorkshire women who form a punk-rock band for a local talent contest. As their musical endeavours give them all a new lease of life, a revelation comes to the fore causes huge trouble. Lorraine Ashbourne, Joanna Scanlan, Amelia Bullmore, Rosalie Craig and Tamsin Greig play the band members. Do also look out for veteran stars Anne Reid and Sue Johnston.

I Fought The Law (ITV1 and ITVX)

Sheridan Smith stars in I Fought The Law, which is an emotional four-part drama based on the true story of Ann Ming, who campaigned to change the Double Jeopardy law, which had prevented someone from being tried twice for the same crime, following her daughter’s brutal murder. Julie, 22, had gone missing in November 1989 in Billingham, Cleveland, and her body was found hidden under the bath in her home.

Her murderer, William Dunlop, was wrongfully acquitted but, years later, confessed to the crime. Thanks to Ann’s tireless campaigning, the 800-year-old legislation was overturned and Dunlop was jailed for life. Daniel York Loh plays Anne’s late husband Charlie Ming.

The Guest (BBC One and BBC iPlayer)

Torchwood and Keeping Faith star Eve Myles plays business owner Fran, who recruits Ria (Gabrielle Creevy) as a cleaner in four-part thriller The Guest. The duo become friends when Fran helps Ria to decide what she really wants from life, but things go wrong after Fran’s advice leads to a devastating incident and the women are drawn into a chilling plot. Emun Elliott and Sion Daniel Young co-star.

Trespasses (Channel 4)

Set in 1975 against the turbulent backdrop of all the Troubles in Northern Ireland, this four-parter follows star-crossed lovers Cushla (Lola Petticrew), a spirited Catholic schoolteacher, and Michael (Tom Cullen), a controversial married barrister, as they embark on a passionate but dangerous liaison. Gillian Anderson plays Cushla’s eccentric mother, Gina.

The Forsytes (5)

Based on the classic Forsyte Saga novels by John Galsworthy, six-part period drama The Forsytes is set in the late Victorian era and follows the lives a well-to-do family of stockbrokers, as they wrestle with who’ll take over the family firm. Joshua Orpin plays Soames Forsyte and Millie Gibson is his dancer bride Irene (see pictured above), while Francesca Annis is matriarch Ann, alongside a strong supporting cast that includes Stephen Moyer, Tuppence Middleton, Eleanor Tomlinson and Jack Davenport.

King & Conqueror (BBC One and BBCIplayer)

This epic eight-part period drama King & Conqueror follows the Norman conquest of Britain, one of the most decisive historical events in our history, after the infamous Battle of Hastings in 1066. Harold of Wessex (James Norton) and William of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) began as allies but ended up bitter enemies as they fought for control of the British throne. Emily Beecham plays Edith Swan Neck, the wife of Harold while Clémence Poésy is William’s wife, Matilda. Eddie Marsan, Claire Holman, Juliet Stevenson, Joseph Mawle, Elliot Cowan and Jean-Marc Barr also star.

The Death of Bunny Munro (Sky Atlantic and NOW)

The Death of Bunny Munro is a drama starring former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, which is based on Nick Cave's book about a father/son road trip. After the suicide of his wife Libby, sex addict and lothario Bunny finds himself the sole carer of his nine-year-old son Bunny Junior (Rafael Mathé), with very little idea of how to parent.

As the pair embark on a road trip across southern England, Bunny Junior starts to unravel as a result of his grief. Both are dealing with their grief in very different ways. While older Bunny tries to bed every woman he can, Bunny Junior spends his time talking to his mother’s ghost and trying to distract himself from the fact his dad is a chaotic mess. As Bunny Junior starts to spiral, Bunny realises he must do something to rescue his son from his own outdated notions of what it is to be a man.

Murder Before Evensong is based on the debut novel Murder Before Evensong by the Reverend Richard Coles and is a six-part whodunnit series. Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis plays crime-solving cleric Canon Daniel Clement, while Amanda Redman as his nonsense mother, Audrey.

The Woman in Cabin 10 (Netflix)

Based on the bestseller The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware this one-off thriller follows a journalist, played by Keira Knightley (above), who is given the travel assignment of a lifetime when she's asked to cover the maiden voyage of a luxury cruise liner, which then sets sail. Then, late one night, she witnesses a passenger tossed overboard and tries to raise the alarm. However, she is told she must have dreamed it because all passengers are safe and accounted for.

Yet despite no one believing her, she continues to search for the truth, even if it means putting her own life in danger. Other stars include Hollywood star Guy Pearce, Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, Ajala, Gitte Witt, Art Malik, Daniel Ings, David Morrissey, Christopher Rygh, Paul Kaye, Kaya Scodelario, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, John Macmillan, Pippa Bennett-Warner and Ayọ̀ Owóyẹmi-Peters.

Down Cemetery Road (Apple TV Plus)

Adapted from the 2003 novel Down Cemetery Road by Mick Herron, who is also the author of Slow Horses, this eight-episode thriller stars Ruth Wilson as Sarah Tucker, who asks private eye Zoë Boehm (Dame Emma Thompson) to help find a child she suspects has vanished in Oxford, UK, but a complex conspiracy unfolds.

Atomic (Sky Atlantic)

Atomic is an intense five-part thriller stars Alfie Allen as drug-smuggler Max and mysterious Mohammed (Shazad Latif) who find themselves flung together and caught up in a sinister terrorist plot to steal uranium to build an atomic weapon. The pair must decide whether to save themselves or save humanity and must also avoid CIA agent Cassie Elliot (played by Samira Wiley) who is hot on their heels.

The Thursday Murder Club (Netflix)

The movie adaptation of Richard Osman’s 2020 novel The Thursday Murder Club boasts a killer cast as four pensioners-turned-amateur sleuths create cosy chaos in their retirement village. Ex-spy Elizabeth (Dame Helen Mirren), former union activist Ron (Pierce Brosnan), retired psychiatrist Ibrahim (Sir Ben Kingsley) and ex-nurse Joyce (Celia Imrie) meet weekly to discuss cold cases. But when a murder occurs on their doorstep, the quirky quartet becomes embroiled in a real whodunnit. David Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie and Tom Ellis star, while Harry Potter’s Chris Columbus directs. ‘It’s a dream to see this book in such incredible hands,’ says Osman. ‘What a cast! I’m pinching myself.’

Providence Falls is the newest trilogy of movies coming to Hallmark Channel during the annual Summer Nights celebration.

The Providence Falls trilogy follows a police detective, Cora, whose new partner is actually her long lost love who has been reincarnated. Over the course of three weeks, their love story will span space and time as Cora is faced with her past colliding with her present. Will she end up finding true love in the end?

Providence Falls Part 1 release date

Providence Falls Part 1 premieres Saturday, August 2, at 8 pm ET/PT on Hallmark Channel. It will be available to stream the following day on Hallmark Plus. The second installment of the Providence Falls trilogy will air on Saturday, August 9, and then the trilogy will come to its conclusion on Saturday, August 16.

One of the most influential movies of all time, Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, is inspiring a 2025 new movie, Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague starring Zoey Deutch. In fact, it’s a direct inspiration, as Linklater’s movie is a chronicle of the production of Breathless.

Released in 1960, Breathless was the first feature film directed by Godard and was one of the prime examples of a movement in international cinema that came to be known as the French New Wave. Hollywood began to incorporate some of the styles of the French New Wave in the late 60s and 70s, contributing to that heralded era. But now, more than 60 years later Linklater and company are taking us all back where it started.

Nouvelle Vague release date

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nouvelle Vague premieres exclusively in US movie theaters on October 31, two weeks before the movie officially hits streaming, landing on Netflix November 14.

The release in movie theaters will ensure that Nouvelle Vague is eligible for Oscars, but reports indicate that Netflix may be giving the movie a broader theatrical release than they often do, with The Hollywood Reporter saying the movie will screen in all of the US’s top 10 markets, presumably New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Philadelphia, Houston, Washington, DC, Boston and Detroit.

If you’re not in one of those markets, or you just would rather wait until it’s on streaming, anyone with a Netflix subscription will be able to watch the movie at home starting November 14.

Nouvelle Vague cast

Zoey Deutch is the known name in the Nouvelle Vague cast, and she will be playing the American actress that worked on Breathless, Jean Seberg. Deutch has starred in popular movies like Juror No. 2, Zombieland: Double Tap and Set It Up, but she also previously worked with Linklater on Everybody Wants Some!!.

The other main members of the cast are French actors Guillaume Marbeck, who is portraying Jean-Luc Godard, and Aubry Dullin, portraying the lead actor in Breathless, Jean-Paul Belmondo, both of whom are starring in their first feature.

Nouvelle Vague plot

“I think we are the best cooking competition on television and the most fun. We have a great combination of serious cooking and serious chefs doing proper grown-up restaurant cooking” says Tom.

“Looking at those first few days in the kitchen, this is the highest level we’ve ever had,” adds Emma. “Sometimes the dishes can look a bit rough around the edges but actually taste amazing. This year, I thought everyone’s first cook looked great and tasted great… Well, from what we’ve managed to snatch off the counter anyway!”

Speaking about this year’s batch of celebs Tom says: “I think Hugh is very good, better than he lets on, Jack is very calm and Natalie is very into it, but she is quite nervous.”

“Yes, Hugh very much plays it down but his food is spectacular and Jack’s really good too,” agrees Emma. “Jess is really capable in the kitchen, but sometimes her nerves take over a bit. Also, I think, on paper, you might expect Jordan to struggle - but he’s honestly been such a lovely surprise.”

“I have no idea why I’m doing this - I’d rather do a dance off than the cook off!” says Kelly. “Michael is so on my wavelength in terms of how he sees a recipe and I see a room, we have the same visual mind and he has been really patient. “I feel sorry for him, but we get on really well so I feel really blessed I have this opportunity. I would love to get past one round rather than be out straight away, so I’m going to do my very best to not let him down.”

Jordan North

Mentor: Rosemary Shrager

“I haven’t done any reality TV since I’m A Celebrity… but I’ve watched this before and it’s a great show. I’m in a bit of a rut with my cooking - I’m at that stage of my life where it’s less nightclubs and more people coming round for dinner, but I’m making the same dishes every time and I want to be able to step it up a level in the kitchen,” says Jordan. “My cooking’s average at best - very entry level. I want to learn how to cook and keep a clean kitchen at the same time. When I’m cooking it’s like a mad scientist, every pan is out and it's all everywhere!”

Jack Osbourne

Mentor: Elliott Grover

“What an opportunity to sit with a world class chef and learn how to cook!” says Jack. “I have four daughters and they all have particular requirements, so it's not one meal that feeds the whole house.

“I wanted to expand my cooking knowledge, as I always cook the same thing, and learn how to properly season and different ways to season.”

“I am absolutely buzzing to take part in this show because cooking is something that I’ve always taken a huge interest in but I lost touch with it when I had my baby, just because I didn’t have as much time,” says Jessica. “To be working alongside a chef, especially Jack, is just a real treat. He’s very laid-back and chilled - he’s not a shouty chef.”

Shaun Wright-Phillips

“I like a challenge but also, I wanted to expand my cooking abilities in the kitchen,” says Shaun. “I don’t really measure things, so that’s where the problem comes in here, because on this show they want you to measure everything. I just shake things and think, ‘That’ll be enough!’”

Episode 1

Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Hugh Dennis, Kelly Hoppen and retired pro footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips can relax in the wings in this opening episode, as Jordan North faces Natalie Cassidy, and Jessica Wright takes on Jack Osbourne (who shares some lovely memories about his famous family). The loser of each round will find themselves in a cook off, which is judged by the chefs in the blind taste test. Who will know their onions when they’re asked to whip up gourmet dishes on a budget of £3 per serving?

Episode 2

In this episode it's the turn of reality TV star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, actor and comedian Hugh Dennis, author and interiors expert Kelly Hoppen, and former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips. But there's added pressure for the stars and their mentors. Not only are they cooking for the judges, but their loved ones are in the studio and will be giving their opinions on their performance - including Hugh’s friend, comedian David Baddiel.

If they fail to impress with their culinary creations, two of the stars will have to face the cook off. Who will crack under the pressure?

Episode 3

Natalie Cassidy, Jack Osbourne, Jordan North, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Hugh Dennis and Kelly Hoppen take on each other in the first ever six-way cooking battle and they’ll go head-to-head to deliver a British classic using only Air Fryer in just 30 minutes.

The losing stars from this battle will also have to impress the world class chefs and cook more speedy dishes in a bid to secure a place in the quarter final. The bottom two stars will fight for their place in the competition in the fastest ever cook-off.

Episode 4

Natalie Cassidy, Jack Osbourne, and Kelly Hoppen try to impress with family favourite dishes in a three-way cooking battle in this episode.

The second battle sees Jordan North goes up against Shaun Wright-Phillips in a bid to secure their place in the semi-final as they attempt to deliver classic family favourite creations. The stars who fail to impress our world class chefs will head into the dreaded cook off.

Episode 5

With the contestants well and truly slimmed down by this stage, the remaining four famous faces compete in the semi-final as they take on healthy dishes. The two stars who fail to impress the judges will end up in the cook-off, with the pair fighting it out for the last place in the grand final.

Episode 6

In the grand final of the celebrity cooking contest the pressure is dialled up, as the three remaining stars battle it out in their toughest challenge yet. They take on their mentors' signature dishes and the two who make it through to the final round will have to deliver a three-course meal in an epic head-to-head battle in a bid to lift the Golden Frying Pan. Who will win? And what will they do with their trophy?

There have been few horror franchises this century as popular and successful as The Conjuring. But all good things come to an end, which is the case with The Conjuring: Last Rites, the 2025 new movie are set to mark the final chapter in this horror series.

Beginning with 2013’s The Conjuring, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have starred as real-life paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren, portraying them in three Conjuring movies and a couple of spin offs (the Annabelle and The Nun horror movies). But The Conjuring: Last Rites is based on one of the final investigations by the Warrens.

Playing first exclusively in movie theaters, The Conjuring: Last Rites premieres in the US, UK and elsewhere around the world on September 5.

As mentioned, Farmiga and Wilson return as the Warrens. Farmiga is an Oscar-nominated actress for Up in the Air, who is also known for The Departed. Wilson is also the star of another horror franchise, Insidious, as well as appearing in the Aquaman movies.

Also set to star in The Conjuring: Last Rites are Mia Tomlinson (The Beast Must Die) as Ed and Lorraine’s daughter Judy; Ben Hardy (Love at First Sight) as Judy’s boyfriend, Tony Spera; and Steve Coulter (Oppenheimer), who returns as Father Gordon.

Others in the cast include Rebecca Calder (House of the Dragon), Elliot Cowan (Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes), Kíla Lord Cassidy (The Wonder), Beau Gadsdon (A Gentleman in Moscow), John Brotherton (Fuller House) and Shannon Kook (Reacher).

The Conjuring: Last Rites plot

Warner Bros. has not shared many details on the plot aside from this description:

“The Conjuring: Last Rites delivers another thrilling chapter of the iconic Conjuring cinematic universe, based on real events. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reunite for one last case as renowned, real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in a powerful and spine-chilling addition to the global box office-breaking franchise.”

However, from what we see in the trailer we can infer that this movie is based on the Smurl family case, which took place in 1986 and followed a family that believed their house was possessed by demons. In the movie it looks like Ed and Lorraine discover that they have a past connection to the demon.

The script was written by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

The Conjuring: Last Rites director

The director for The Conjuring: Last Rites is someone well versed in the franchise, as Michael Chaves helms the picture. He’s previously directed two movies in the Conjuring franchise, 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and 2023’s The Nun II.

Warner Bros. Pictures subsidiary New Line Cinema is behind The Conjuring: Last Rites, along with The Safran Company and Atomic Monster Production. James Wan and Peter Safra are producers.

Other creatives behind the scenes include director of photography Eli Born, production designer John Frankish, editors Elliot Greenberg and Gregory Plotkin, visual effects supervisor Scott Edelstein, visual effects producer Eric Bruneau, costume designer Graham Churchyard and composer Benjamin Wallfisch.

Ridley season 2 sees Adrian Dunbar finally return as retired cop turned police consultant Alex Ridley. Yes, it's been nearly three years since the first series aired to great reviews.

Ridley resumes his partnership with former protégée DI Carol Framan (played by Unforgotten's Bronagh Waugh), who is now in charge of investigations.

Joining the cast is Taggart legend John Michie, who’s just been seen in Karen Pirie season 2. He plays debonair jeweller Harry, whom Ridley vies with for Anne’s (Shetland’s Julie Graham) attention.

Talking about returning for season 2, Adrian tells us: "Coming back was a wonderful experience, because the first series was really well-received. When you get a second series, there’s a good buzz.

"Plus, of course, you’re getting an opportunity to move a character on. Ridley’s obviously never going to get away from his past, but life must go on, so there have to be some subtle changes in him. I think an audience has to see progression."

We asked Adrian if putting on Alex Ridley’s signature jacket helped him get back into character. He replied: "Yes, the jacket helps me a lot. Finding an iconic piece of costume was something we thought about, and we thought this old, beaten-up jacket would bring a bit of characterisation to the drama. If you look back at some of the TV shows from the 1970s and 1980s, several characters had similar items associated with them."

Can the second season live up to the first, which is one of ITV's best dramas of recent times? Here's hoping so...

Ridley season 2

Ridley will return for a second season on Sunday, August 10, at 8 pm on ITV1. The new series is four parts and will also land on ITVX as a box set.

Adrian Dunbar returns in the leading role with Bronagh Waugh as DI Carol Framan. John Michie joins as jeweller Harry with Julie Graham back as Annie.

The original team all return with Terence Maynard (Time, Coronation Street) as DCI Paul Goodwin, George Bukhari (Years and Years, The A Word) as DC Darren Lakhan, Georgie Glen (The Crown, Call the Midwife) as pathologist Dr Wendy Newstone. The regular cast also includes Bhavna Limbachia (Citizen Khan, Coronation Street) as Geri.

Guest stars in episode one include John Henshaw (The Long Shadow) and Christine Bottomley (Domina).

Plot — what happens in episode 1?

The makers tease: "Ridley starts to investigate when a jewellery heist turns violent, and the thieves take off with their stolen loot. After an interested party is killed in broad daylight, Ridley and Carol have a race against time to discover the identity of the criminal mastermind behind the whole operation. Will the team be able to bring them to justice before more blood is spilled?"

The makers tease: "The discovery of a decomposed body in the depths of Hawsley Wood sends shockwaves through the investigative team, as it is identified as a woman who vanished without a trace six years prior. "Ridley must enlist the help of disgraced ex-copper Jean Dixon, who oversaw the original investigation. Despite past conflicts between Ridley and Jean, he is determined to mend their relationship in the pursuit of justice. The urgency to locate her before it's too late propels Ridley and Carol into action as they take on the investigation. Ridley season 2 was filmed in the north of England. Ridley is written and created by award-winning writer Paul Matthew Thompson, one of the lead writers on Vera.

For more than two decades, Turner Classic Movies has dedicated the month of August its Summer Under the Stars program, which spotlights some of the biggest movie stars in film history. That continues with the 2025 TCM Summer Under the Stars slate.

Starting August 1 and going throughout the month, each day will feature movies starring a specific iconic movie star all day long. This year the roster includes Audrey Hepburn, Christopher Plummer, Judy Garland, Clark Gable, Ruby Dee, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Kirk Douglas, Shirley MacLaine and more. Plummer is one of eight stars being featured as part of the month-long program for the first time.

Turner Classic Movies is the cable TV home of some of the greatest movies of all time and presents them uncut and commercial free. The network features one of the largest libraries in the world, so not only is it going to be showing some of the most popular movies from its roster of 31 stars this month, but there are going to be a number of deep cuts from their resumes highlighted as part of the programming.

In order to watch TCM's Summer Under the Stars live on TV you need to have a traditional cable subscription or live TV streaming service that carries the network (DirecTV Stream, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV do in the case of the latter). Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025 is here as 14 more brave famous faces prepare to undertake a special version of the real-life SAS admission process on Channel 4.

The popular reality show is now up to season 7 and this time, celebs including S Club and EastEnders star Hannah Spearritt, former dancer and TV personality Louie Spence, to professional boxer Conor Benn and former Premiership footballer Troy Deeney will take on tough physical and mental military challenges such as hanging off a 160ft high wire and plunging the freezing North Sea to jump into a moving speedboat. Harry Clark says: “Growing up, I'd watch people close to me be in the SAS, which always inspired me. This show was a different experience to what I had imagined but I always love a challenge and it proves you're always learning new things about yourself.”

Hannah Spearritt says: “I hope to take out of this experience, strength. I want to feel stronger again, mentally and physically, because there's always improvement there. There are always dips that happen along the way with motherhood or whatever but I think when you just experience different stuff, it changes you. I have no idea what to expect, but I do know it will be an experience and it's something that I will have for life.

Rebecca Loos adds: “I honestly don't know whether I am mentally strong enough but one of the reasons I want to do this course is because I want to find out whether I'm able to stick it through mentally. I think it's going to be really, really tough. This is by far the toughest thing I've ever done. But I want to do this course because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to do an SAS training course. It's going to be really interesting to see how far I can go and how strong I'm able to keep myself.”

What happens at the start of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025

"This is a course that is really going to challenge me," admits Louie Spence as he realises what he's let himself for at the start of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025. "I’m not going to be able to get myself out of a situation with a high kick and the splits."

The first task of season 7 sees the recruits plunge 26ft into the North Sea where they must swim to a rendezvous point within a minute and jump onto a moving speedboat. And it’s certainly a daunting challenge. "I’m too old for this,’ says 55-year-old Louie Spence. ‘I feel like a grandad in a kids’ school. I don’t think I’m going to last the night."

Other tasks in the series include hanging off a 160ft rope wire, staging a terrifying hostage rescue mission and driving through hostile enemy territory. And as some of the celebrities near breaking point, how long will they last?

"I quite like a bit of pain," jokes Hannah Spearritt. "I’m pretty determined. I don’t think I’ll go on the first day because I just wouldn’t forgive myself."

Domineering Dublin matriarch Agnes Brown is back on BBC One as a new four-part series of Brendan O’Carroll’s popular sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys kicks off.

Filmed in front of a live studio audience, in the fifth series of the comedy, the unmistakable Mrs Brown unwittingly becomes the subject of a podcast in the opening episode. While later in the run, the meddling Mammy causes chaos when she "helps" neighbour Winnie (Eilish O’Carroll) prepare for her driving test and infiltrates daughter Cathy’s (Jennifer Gibney) book group after developing a taste for steamy fiction.

Mrs Brown’s Boys 2025 release date

Mrs Brown’s Boys 2025 gets underway on BBC One on Friday, August 1, at 9.30 pm. The four-parter will also be available on BBC iPlayer in box set format.

Speaking about what’s in store, Brendan has revealed: “Cathy gets involved with a podcast producer [guest star Simon Delaney], which is commandeered by Agnes and her neighbours. Grandad decides that he wants to leave for a care home and Agnes packs his bags for him! There’s a disastrous driving test which ends with a huge shock for the Brown family. And Father Damien stages his annual Finglas talent show in Foley's Bar with hilarious entries.”

Grandad (Dermot O’Neill) is so much of a fixture in Mrs Brown’s living room that its hard to imagine him anywhere else. Yet this week Agnes discovers her father-in-law is preparing to move into a care home. Surely, she won’t let him leave?

Elsewhere, it’s the annual Stars of Finglas contest, with Buster (Danny O’Carroll) providing stand up comedy - so bad it makes everyone want to stand up and leave - and Fathers Damien (Conor Moloney) and Trevor (Martin Delany) performing as Jedward.

Winnie (Eilish O’Carroll), meanwhile, is one of two Elvises… although her impression comes with a sideline you’ll never associate with the king of rock ‘n’ roll.

Episode 3 (15 August 2025, BBC1)

Motor Mammy

With Mrs Brown’s neighbour having trouble telling her right of way from her left of way, Agnes steps behind the wheel to help Winnie pass her driving test, subsequently striking fear into the heart of every pedestrian in Dublin.

Meanwhile, Grandad is enjoying the benefits of a Guinness drip and Birdie (June Rogers) is looking after a pet snake. What could go wrong?

Guest stars Shobu Kapoor and Marek Larwood add to the madness as things spiral out of control in true Brown family fashion.

Episode 4 (22 August 2025, BBC1)

Easy Rider Mammy

In the final episode, a curious new hobby emerges when Agnes discovers a surprising passion for erotic fiction – much to Cathy’s embarrassment.

Speaking about this episode Brendan says: “Having Agnes on a mobility scooter was fun - she goes nuts! In every episode there is something that stands out for me and filming in front of a live audience is essential to the show. They add so much to our performances and we would be lost without them.”

Mrs Brown’s Boys 2025 Christmas special

Mrs Brown’s Christmas and New Year’s specials have become a fixture in the BBC’s seasonal comedy calendar, and this coming Christmas will be no exception, with Agnes and the gang expected to be delivering their annual festive treats as usual this year. We will update once we know more.

Speaking about the difference between writing the series and the seasonal episodes, Brendan says: "Writing the miniseries is much more relaxing for myself and Paddy Houlihan, who joins me as a writer. With the Christmas Specials, I have to keep it within the Christmas period - including the Christmas trees, which have emerged as their own event! Here, we can focus on anything - within reason! Believe it or not, most of the storylines are based on true events that either happened to my family or have been told to me by people about their families.”

Zootopia came out back in 2016, earning a 98% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes and an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. While fans did get a TV series to fill the gap, Zootopia Plus, the nine year wait for Zootopia 2 is nearing its end.

Zootopia 2 premieres exclusively in US movie theaters on November 26. The animated movie comes out a couple days later in the UK on November 28.

Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman return for Zootopia 2 to lend their voices for Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, respectively. But they’re not the only characters returning for the sequel, so are Idris Elba as Chief Bogo and Shakira as Gazelle.

Headlining the new additions to the cast are Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once), voicing Gary De’Snake, Fortune Feimster (FUBAR) as Nibbles and Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) as Dr. Fuzzby.

Jared Bush is also the director of Zootopia 2. He was a co-director on the original Zootopia along with Byron Howard and Rich Moore and also previously directed Encanto.

Parenthood explores the obstacles and rewards faced by a range of animals as they try to ensure the survival of the next generation.

The wildlife documentary, narrated by Sir David Attenborough and airing on BBC One in August, showcases the incredible ways in which creatures across the globe demonstrate dedication and resourcefulness as they try to ensure that their young are nourished and protected from predators.

Parenthood release date

The five-part show airs from Sunday, 3 August at 7.20 pm on BBC One in the UK and all episodes will be available from the same date on BBC iPlayer. We will let you know about the US release when it is announced.

What is it about?

The series, which was filmed in 23 countries on six continents over three years, sees cameras capture remarkable footage, including behaviour that has never been filmed before, to reveal how, in ever-changing environments, animals from dolphins and gorillas to owls and elephants have developed remarkable ways to safeguard and feed their young.

Each episode looks at a different habitat, from oceans to jungles, to explore the various challenges the species face.

Episode One: The Greatest Adventure

While a gorilla in Gabon educates her baby about forest life, a lion in Botswana and her cubs hunt dangerous Cape Buffalo, a hippo tries to protect her calf from lions as they search for food, a burrowing owl couple in the USA work together to raise their chicks, an endangered Iberian lynx raises her kittens in an abandoned barn in Spain, and an African social spider in Namibia sacrifices herself for her spiderlings.

Episode Two: Oceans

Marine parents cleverly utilise ocean resources and as dolphin mothers in the Red Sea show their calves the reef’s healing powers, Killer whales in Australia teach their young to catch blue whales, and a Banggai cardinalfish in Indonesia rears his babies inside his mouth. But otter kits in Scotland and Cape gannet fledglings in South Africa come under threat.

Episode Three: Grasslands

Grassy regions are good hunting ground for predators and in Kenya, a cheetah and her cubs track wildebeest. Elsewhere, langur monkeys in India get babysitting practice, but tragedy strikes in South Africa when a social weaver bird’s nest causes conflict, and in Argentina, a guanaco mother faces difficulties while travelling to winter feeding grounds.

Episode Four: Freshwater

During the drought in Kenya, an elephant family awaits the arrival of rain, but a deluge could prove devastating. Meanwhile turtles in Brazil time their egg-laying to negotiate the rainy season, in Dominica a tri-tri goby fish’s child-rearing plans are upset by a storm, and in Namibia, a Namaqua sandgrouse father encounters danger as he collects water.

Episode Five: Jungles

The jungle is a rich but risky environment in which to raise young and white-headed langurs in China find their limestone habitats encroached on by farmland. Meanwhile in Bhutan, rufous-necked hornbill parents prove a well-honed team, a crab in Jamaica uses the forest’s resources to build a nursery pool, and tapirs in the Amazon relocate due to forest fires.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats marks another historic time for The Challenge franchise, as this go-around makes 41 seasons of the reality TV competition series. It continues to be the US’ longest-running reality competition show, which debuted even before Survivor.

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats premieres on Wednesday, July 30, at 8 pm ET/PT on MTV.

The Challenge season 41 airs live exclusively on MTV. For those that don’t have traditional cable/satellite television, you can watch MTV on live TV services such as Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV. Episodes become available to stream on-demand via the MTV website and app.

Season 41 is also expected to become available to stream on Paramount Plus, but as of publication, we don’t know when that will happen. Additionally, we also anticipate season 41 will be available on Paramount Plus in the UK, but again, we don’t have a specific release date.

Apple TV Plus and Mick Herron are continuing their partnership, as the author’s book series about private investigator Zoë Boehm is becoming a TV series, Down Cemetery Road.

Herron’s Slow Horses series of spy novels has become one of the best shows on Apple TV Plus, with Slow Horses season 5 premiering in fall 2025, but Down Cemetery Road features a brand new set of characters that doesn’t have any current connection to the world of Slow Horses (so a Gary Oldman Jackson Lamb cameo is quite unlikely). But that doesn’t mean the crime drama doesn’t have star power and plenty of intrigue to get viewers attention.

Down Cemetery Road release date

Apple TV Plus is debuting Down Cemetery Road on Wednesday, October 29, with the show exclusively streaming on the platform.

The first two episodes of Down Cemetery Road are going to be available to watch immediately, followed by one new episode each week. With eight episodes in total, new episodes of Down Cemetery Road will premiere every Wednesday through December 10.

Another note about the schedule, Down Cemetery Road is premiering one week after the end of Slow Horses season 5 (on October 22).

With Down Cemetery Road being an Apple TV Plus exclusive, you must be a subscriber to the streaming service in order to watch.

Emma Thompson leads Down Cemetery Road as private investigator Zoë Boehm. This is a rare TV appearance for the Oscar-winning Thompson. Her last starring role in a TV series was 2019’s TV miniseries Years and Years, while her other big TV credit is 2003’s Angels in America; she’s had a few guest spots and roles in some TV movies as well over the years. Thompson was most recently seen in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

Sharing top billing with Thompson for the series is Ruth Wilson, playing Sarah Tucker. Wilson has starred in a number of high profile TV series, including A Very Royal Scandal, His Dark Materials, The Affair and Luther.

Also starring in Down Cemetery Road are Adeel Akhtar (Black Doves), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Black Doves), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), Darren Boyd (Trying), Tom Riley (Murder Is Easy), Adam Godley (The Great), Sinead Matthews (Things You Should Have Done), Ken Nwosu (Black Doves), Fehinti Balogun (A Gentleman in Moscow) and Aiysha Hart (We Are Lady Parts).

Based on the books series by Herron and written by Morwenna Banks (who has written multiple episodes of Slow Horses), here is the official synopsis for Down Cemetery Road:

“When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbor Sarah Tucker becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm. Zoë and Sarah suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.”

Ahead of the release of its final season, The Boys gets another foray into its world with Gen V season 2, which is coming very soon.

This college-set drama is set in the superhero-riddled world of the main series, following a cast of characters who need to learn about their powers and understand their identity.

The first series of Gen V featured some heavy tie-ins with The Boys; in fact some episodes of The Boys season 4 both spoiled Gen V and made less sense if you hadn't seen it. But that's set to be par for the course from hereon with several more spin-offs expanding the universe of the show, including The Boys: Mexico and Vought Rising.

So for fans of the dark superhero universe, Gen V season 2 is set to be required watching. Here's what you need to know about it.

Gen V season 2 release date

The premiere date for Gen V season 2 is Wednesday, September 17, and we're going to see three episodes on release date.

After that, episodes will likely come weekly, although that hasn't been confirmed. An episode count also hasn't been announced but the past season, and all runs of The Boys, have had 8.

You'll be able to watch Gen V season 2 on Prime Video, where the first season and the original series all live.

Gen V season 2 plot

Despite what you'd expect given how the first season ended, Gen V season 2 sees the core cast of characters return to Godolkin University School of Crimefighting.

However with Homelander how running the show in the US, the school is very different. The dean is turning the superhero children under his care into soldiers, and war between 'Supes' and humans seems near. However the main characters discover a new secret program which could affect the events about to play out.

The main cast of the first season of Gen V are mostly set to return for the new batch of episodes. This includes:

Amazon's cast list misses Andre Anderson (Chance Perdomo) but it's possible that he's just been reduced in billing, instead of dropped from the series completely. That's especially true because his in-universe dad, the superhero Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) has been promoted to lead status.

So has Hamish Linklater, who plays the new Godolkin dean.

As with Gen V season 1, it's also very possible that the show will include cameos from the main series' cast, but we'll have to wait for the show to release to be certain.
