Did you like Forever? Netflix adds new season of another coming-of-age hit series

If you’re like me and powered through the eight episodes of the new Netflix hit Forever (a show I’ve called the best new show of 2025), you may be looking for something to watch to fill the void as we all wait for Forever season 2, which is in the works. Allow me to make a recommendation.

On May 13, Netflix added All American season 7 to its lineup, joining the entirety of the CW original series and its more than 100 episodes.

For those who have yet to watch an episode of All American, the coming-of-age series started as a story about Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) as he pursues his lifelong dream of becoming an NFL star. Along the way, he's confronted with family drama, romantic issues and even a life-or-death crisis as he matriculates through high school. I’ll try not to give too much away, but the rollercoaster ride of trauma and triumph is captivating, and his journey, along with those of his friend group, is sure to bring a smile to your face (after all the tears of course).

Spencer becomes less of the focal point in All American season 7. In fact, the canvas is largely reset with a new crop of teens, but peppered with a few familiar faces with new issues.

High school students KJ (Nathaniel McIntyre) and Khalil (Antonio J. Bell) collide in large part because of football, but they start out as rivals due to their varying connection to Amina (Alexis Chikaeze). Over the course of the 12-episode season, you’ll see the three of them intertwined in plenty of drama.

While original series holdouts Jordan (Michael Evans Behling), Layla (Greta Onieogou) and Coop (Bre-Z) are there to provide some guidance more or less, the three of them also have some life-changing events they have to face, including a new family member, baby news and a shocking romance.

With all that being said, All American isn’t exactly Forever, but it is a series with more seniority and longevity. Plus, it’s certainly able to hold one’s attention and make you feel the range of emotions you likely felt while watching the Mara Brock Akil hit.

All American season 7 episode 1 recap: the old Vortex helps a new one take shape

In a nod to the original Vortex fans have come to love (and without a doubt miss), All American season 7 episode 1, “Reborn,” opens up with Spencer (Daniel Ezra) doing a voiceover, introducing viewers to a new reality for the series. One that features Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and the remaining Vortex trying to settle into adulthood. Additionally, a crop of new characters are introduced as a new dynamic takes shape. Here’s what happened in the All American season 7 premiere.

New beginnings

Jordan is leading a training session as an assistant coach of the South Crenshaw High School football team. He has a very friendly/brotherly relationship with the players, one that Head Coach Bobby Shepard (Gilbert Glenn Brown) isn’t fond of, noting the players don’t seem to take football seriously when Jordan is around.

When Jordan brings up his dynamic with his boss to Layla (Greta Onieogou), she mentions perhaps Shepard just wants Jordan to have more boundaries. She tells him it may not be the best idea to allow his high school players to follow and interact with him on social media. He shrugs off her advice.

Meanwhile, across town, new arrivals Cassius Jeremy (Osy Ikhile) and his son KJ (Nathaniel Logan McIntyre) are working out on their own, finishing up with a race, with Cassius proving to be victorious. The two men laugh and Cassius’ wife Ava (Angel Parker) joins in on the family moment. KJ interjects that with it being his last official day in LA, he wants to spend it with his friend Yasi (Elijah M. Cooper), who he met at football camp and happens to be the star quarterback for South Crenshaw.

Then there’s Preach’s (Kareem Grimes) daughter Amina (Alexis Chikaeze). She’s apparently finishing up moving into the James family home with Coop (Bre-Z) and insists she’s grown now at 16. Coop questions Amina’s rushed claim of adulthood, subsequently wondering if Amina is trying to prove she is an adult to her father or herself. Amina eventually heads out to a beach day event to meet friends.

Life doesn't get easier

At their hotel, Cassius tries to cozy up to his wife, but she isn’t receptive at all. She talks with him about putting on a front for KJ, because they both know they are getting a separation. Cassius clearly doesn’t want one, but Ava is determined to go through with it and tell KJ when they meet back up with him later.

KJ arrives at South Crenshaw to link up with Yasi. They exchange some banter before leaving for the beach. On their way out, Khalil (Antonio J Bell) bumps into KJ. Already upset, from finding out he'll have to repeat his junior year, Khalil starts to cause a scene, but Yasi steps in to put Khalil in his place. Yasi and KJ leave, which turns out to be a bad move on Yasi’s part. He’s supposed to be joining his team at an “optional” practice. When Jordan finds out the quarterback skipped it, he becomes very upset.

At the beach, KJ, Yasi and some other guys play a game of football while Amina and her friend Macy (Najah Jackson) look on in awe. Macy teases Amina for looking for Khalil, who she has a crush on. Amina tries to shrug off the comments, but Macy tells her Khalil isn’t coming because a day party at the beach is not Khalil’s type of party, adding he may not be around school for that much longer having heard about his latest trouble.

Over at the Baker house, Coop arrives to talk to Layla. The two lament about being adults and being in a rut, feeling the “New York Vortex” is doing big things. They recall Spencer is in the NFL, Olivia (Samantha Logan) is turning her best-seller into a TV show, Patience (Chelsea Tavares) is on Broadway and Asher (Cody Christian) is coaching at a school there.

Coop decides they need to have a fun day, so the two ladies go to Layla’s lounge to do some day drinking. However, once they are there and a few cocktails in, their duo becomes a trio when Cassius walks in thinking the lounge is open. Rather than turning him away, Coop invites him to drink and he opens up about his marital issues, noting he still loves his wife.

Beach Day implodes

Beach Day is interrupted when Jordan appears and confronts Yasi for leaving his teammates hanging. Yasi tries to sway Jordan not to embarrass him, but Jordan is livid and wants Yasi to head to practice now. Feeling all eyes are on him, Yasi shoots back that it’s not like Jordan never skipped a practice, and pulls up a social media video of Jordan drinking with friends. Jordan isn’t happy about the disrespect.

The beach outing becomes even more explosive thanks to Amina. Khalil eventually shows up, but is accompanied with some gang members from the neighborhood, although he himself isn’t in a gang. She approaches him and asks how he’s doing with having to repeat junior year? He erupts, telling her to go home. Tired of everyone thinking of her as a kid, she spots KJ and goes up and kisses him to prove a point. Once she leaves though, Khalil goes up to KJ and warns him to go home and not to touch one of his girls again.

KJ emphasizes that Amina kissed him and Khalil needs to chill. Khalil thinks KJ needs to learn a lesson, to but KJ says he’s not qualified to teach it as he’s “too stupid to graduate.“ Khalil punches him and before KJ can hit him back, one of Khalil’s friends pulls a gun out, convincing KJ to just leave.

When KJ arrives back at the hotel with his mom and dad, he’s hit with one more blow. His parents share they are separating. Cassius took a coaching job at Beverly High School and his parents think KJ should stay with his dad in Los Angeles while Ava returns to Oakland. KJ storms out.

Apologies and boundaries

Amina is at a bakery, turning in her resume. As she’s about to leave, she spots KJ walk in and grab a table. She apologizes for kissing him. He laughs and introduces himself officially. Amina turns to leave, but looking back, she sees something is bothering him and offers him the chance to vent.

The venting session leads to her taking him to South Crenshaw to toss a few footballs, as it typically clears his head. Jordan shows up, wondering what they’re doing there, but eventually offers to toss the ball with KJ, who is a bit star-struck by Jordan’s presence.

When Amina arrives home, she finds Khalil waiting for her. He apologizes and says Deion asked him to look out for her and stay out of trouble before he left, but is sorry if he overstepped. She in turn, regrets airing out his business at the beach.

The episode closes with Jordan listening to a voicemail from Spencer, who offers him advice as a coach. Jordan is prompted to make his social media account private going forward. KJ also joins his parents for dinner, trusting they can somehow remain a family through this trial separation and seemingly agrees to stay in town with his dad. Lastly, another assistant coach asks Coach Shepard why he’s so hard on Jordan, and Coach Shepard just notes he has his reasons, without sharing more.

New episodes of All American air on Mondays on The CW, seasons 1-6 are now on Netflix.

At the end of All American season 6, Daniel Ezra officially made his exit as a series regular, meaning All American season 7 is going to strike a bit of a different tone without Ezra's Spencer around. However, then some bombshell news hit this fall as it was announced that Spencer isn't the only person from the Vortex who will be missing when new episodes premiere.

Here's everything we know about All American season 7.

All American season 7 finale

All American season 7 has reached its end. The season 7 finale airs on Monday, May 5 at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. Here is a synopsis for the episode titled "Award Tour":

"On the day of the South Crenshaw vs. Beverly game, KJ learns news that throws him off, and Cassius and Ava try to help. Meanwhile, Jordan is determined to return to the game despite outside concerns. Amina learns good news about her future, but she is unsure of what choice to make. Coop is ready for the next step with Breonna. Khalil gets support from an unlikely source. Lastly, KJ makes a bold declaration, and the game comes down to the wire."

All American is an original series on The CW network, and new episodes premiere directly on the television channel. Those who don’t have traditional cable/satellite TV can still watch season 7 episodes live as they air with a subscription to live-streaming TV services such as FuboTV, Hulu Live with TV and YouTube TV. Additionally, new episodes are likely to become available to stream the day after they air on The CW app. The app is not only free, but it also doesn’t require you to log in.

No word yet as to when the new season will premiere in the UK.

All American season 7 cast

As previously mentioned, Daniel Ezra is exiting the show as a series regular, but he has mentioned that he plans to return in a guest star capacity. Joining him in a departure are Samantha Logan, Cody Christian, Karimah Westbrook, Monét Mazur and Chelsea Tavares. That mean The Vortex will be without Spencer, Olivia, Asher and Patience constantly around.

With all the departures, it's not a surprise we have a few additions to the series regulars. Antonio J. Bell and Alexis Chikaeze, who portrayed Khalil and Amina respectively in season 6 have been bumped up to series regulars. Additionally, Osy Ikhile joins as Beverly High’s new football coach, Cassius Jeremy, and Nathaniel McIntyre plays Jeremy’s son and new QB, Kingston Jeremy.

These new series regulars join familar faces, Greta Onieogou as Layla, Michael Evans Behling as Jordan and Bre-Z as Coop.

Specific details about the new season have not yet been released. However, with Jordan and Layla still newlyweds, Jordan starting a coaching job at South Crenshaw High School, Coop pursing a law career and new characters being thrown into the fold, there's a lot to look forward to in the new season.

Is All American season 6 on Netflix?

If you’re someone who loves All American but was unable to follow All American season 6 week to week as episodes rolled out on The CW, then you’ve probably been patiently waiting for episodes to become available on Netflix so you can watch at your own pace. Well, following in the footsteps of prior seasons, season 6 was slated to land on the streamer, an anticipated delight for many fans. So when do the latest crop of episodes of the coming-of-age drama hit Netflix? Thankfully, All American season 6 is now on Netflix as of July 23.

If you watched All American season 5, then you’ll probably recall Olivia (Samantha Logan) was headed to the UK to study abroad, Spencer (Daniel Ezra) was left in LA pining away over her since they rekindled their romance and Layla (Greta Onieogou) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) were toying with the idea of getting married. There was also the issue of Patience (Chelsea Tavares) being attacked by a fan before Coop (Bre-Z) had a chance to confess her rediscovered love.

All American season 6 recaps

Having watched the new episodes closely, let us be the first to tell you, that they're good, and all the plot questions you have going into season 6 are answered. There are also a few surprises throughout the season that still have us stunned. While we won’t give away much of what happened here, you’re free to check out our All American season 6 recaps if you’re just that curious.

However, we will let you know if you don’t know already, All American season 6 serves as Daniel Ezra’s last as a full-time cast member. While Ezra has promised to return to the series as Spencer every now and then, he’s moving on from the show. With that being said, you should prepare yourself for some touching moments dedicated to Spencer’s journey on the series and get ready to see how All American tells him goodbye, rather a "see you later."

All American season 6 finale recap: Spencer and Olivia's wedding day sendoff

In the All American season 6 finale, "I Do (Part II)," Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia (Samantha Logan) find out their wedding venue was flooded due to a sewage problem. While Olivia questions if she and Spencer will ever get married, Spencer plans a surprise alternative, even calling in some favors with some familiar faces.

Elsewhere, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) are handed quite the gracious gift, Jordan stumbles upon a new Baker relative and Coop (Bre-Z) gets some life-changing news.

At the Baker house, Spencer relays to Olivia it'll take three days for the wedding venue to be cleaned. Unfortunately, he has to be back at training camp in 36 hours, meaning if they don't get married the following day they'd have to wait until next year. Both are crushed by the realization.

The next morning, the Vortex shows up offering to help. While the friends watch Olivia pretending to be fine as she eerily cuts up fruit, Spencer calls Coach Montes to ask if he can miss the first few days of training camp to get married under the circumstances, but the coach says no. Spencer shares the bad news with Coop, who coincidentally gets an email saying she was accepted into GAU's law school. As the Vortex rallies around Coop in celebration, Olivia can't hide her disappointment that Montes denied Spencer’s request.

Certain she's not getting married, Olivia spends much of the day packing. Jordan tries to cheer her up and assist her, but he becomes distracted when he finds his dad's old playbook, thinking it could help him in his new coaching job at South Crenshaw. Olivia doesn’t mind Jordan stops helping, but Layla walks in and relieves him of his duties. As the two friends talk, they get emotional about the house being full of memories, and the fact Layla will miss Olivia when she moves to New York. Layla also mentions that she and Jordan are still having a hard time finding a house to buy as none of them feels like home.

Meanwhile, across town, Spencer and Coop show up at South Crenshaw. Spencer thinks the Billy Baker football field could be their new wedding venue. Unfortunately, the field is under construction. Coop thinks it was a horrible plan anyway.

Before Spencer and Coop move on, they run into Deion (Taiv Lee) and Amina (Alexis Chikaeze), who working on a project based on A Midsummer Night's Dream. Talking to them and remembering the wedding gift he received from Jordan in the previous episode, Spencer gets an idea and asks the teenagers for a favor.

He enlists them, their friend Khalil (Antonio J Bell), Patience (Chelsea Tavares) and Coop to put together wedding decorations, as Olivia cancelled all their vendors. Thanks to Coop, Spencer's former teammate Kai (Tre Hale), Spencer's first girlfriend Kia (Asjha Cooper) and Spencer's college friend Davita (Brittany Marie Batchelder) show up to assist as well.

Back at the Baker house, Oliva breaks down in tears remembering when she told Spencer she was leaving for the UK. Laura (Monet Mazur) and Olivia's grandmother Wendy (Jaclyn Smith) walk in and console her. Olivia thinks her relationship with Spencer constantly faces setbacks, but they encourage her to think how despite all of the trials and tribulations, she and Spencer have managed to love each other and remain committed to one another. Laura encourages her daughter not to give up on getting married.

When Spencer finally reunites with Olivia, she’s turned over a new leaf. She tells him they’re getting married today and she found a justice of the peace willing to officiate. He coyly agrees, but says they need to make a stop first. They drive to the James family home where the couple's loved ones are ready for a wedding in the backyard. Olivia is touched Spencer was able to pull this off and notes the home has special significance for them before she's ushered off to get dressed.

Coop is going to law school

While at the beach house helping Spencer with decorations, Coop gets a message on her phone. It's her decision from Yale Law School. Coop doesn't want to open the email, but Patience takes her phone and loudly yells in excitement she got into the school. When Spencer and Jordan run out to the commotion, they're thrilled for Coop, but she doesn't seem that happy.

Once Olivia and Spencer officially get hitched, Spencer pulls Coop to the side during the reception to catch up. She opens up about not being sure she can go to Yale because she never really had dreams for herself. She claims to be just a former rapper who minored in gangbanging. Spencer counters she's a talented legal mind and encourages her to choose the school that makes her happy. As he gets up to walk away, she tells him she loves him.

Laura is moving and Jordan and Layla find a home

All of the day's events get Laura teary-eyed thinking about how the Baker home is full of memories. She's not sure she can stay there alone and is considering selling it to start a new chapter. Olivia smirks, thinking she has the perfect solution.

Again at the reception, Jordan and Layla jokingly go back and forth about a piece of cake and the idea of sharing it. Laura walks up and surprises them both by saying she is giving them the house. She shares it was Olivia’s idea, and Laura has already put the deed in their names. Their incredibly appreciative, and funny enough, Laura then takes the cake they were discussing.

Billy has a brother

Although Jordan was tasked with assisting Spencer at the beach house with wedding decorations, he was distracted looking through his dad's playbook. After Kia scolds him for not helping, he gets up and a baby picture drops out of it. Kia assumes it's Billy (Taye Diggs) as a child, but Jordan knows it's not.

When Jordan gets a moment alone with Grandpa Willy (Brent Jennings), he asks who the child is in the photo. Immediately, Grandpa Willy gets tense and lies that he doesn't know who it is. Jordan presses the issue and after initially pushing back, Grandpa Willy eventually reveals the baby is Billy's older brother. Billy's mom had a child before Grandpa Willy entered the picture. The news stuns Jordan, and Grandpa Willy storms off.

Spencer and Olivia's Crenshaw sendoff

After a beautiful wedding where Spencer and Olivia shared touching words about each other, Grace (Karimah Westbrook) says a few people planned a surprise for the couple. Preach (Kareem J. Grimes) and the Crenshaw community showed up for the newlyweds to give them the reception they deserve.

Spencer and Olivia take to the dancefloor for their first dance. What starts out as a well-choreographed classical dance between the two, cuts to a hip-hop routine that showcased the actors' dance skills.

In a tearful moment, Spencer interrupts Preach, D'Angelo (Lamon Archey), Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) and Spencer's former therapist Dr. Spears (Eugene Byrd), thanking the four men for showing up for him. After losing Corey (Chad L. Coleman) and Billy, he notes they helped fill the gaps, and he's appreciative.

As the season closes out, members of the Crenshaw community step up to thank Spencer for his contributions over the years. Then in a final moment, a photographer asks if Spencer and Olivia would like to take a few more pictures, which they do.

All American season 6 in its entirety becomes available on Netflix on July 23.

All American season 6 episode 14 recap: a Spencer and Olivia's wedding day woes

In All American season 6 episode 14, "I Do (Part I)," Spencer (Daniel Ezra) arrives back in LA two days before his wedding to Olivia (Samantha Logan). While excited for the big day, Olivia can't help but see "bad omens" signaling the wedding of her dreams may not happen. Although Spencer tries to alleviate the fears of his wife-to-be, that task proves to be difficult.

Elsewhere, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) have a big choice to make regarding buying a house. Additionally, Jordan has a job opportunity he's afraid to take.

Here's what happened in All American season 6 episode 14.

Wedding jitters or bad signs?

Olivia can't contain her excitement as she’s been planning her wedding since she was a little girl. She whips out an early wedding gift, but is hesitant to open it thinking it could be bad luck. Spencer opens the gift, which turns out to be a set of knives, dismissing the idea of it being unlucky. However, as he grabs his bag, he bumps into the mirror in the foyer and it breaks.

Later, as Olivia tries on her wedding dress Spencer enters and sees her standing in the mirror. He quickly turns his head, but of course, Olivia freaks out saying it's bad luck for a groom to see the bride in her dress before the wedding. He initially tries to act as if he didn't see anything, but then confesses to her looking gorgeous. Facing her, he reassures Olivia nothing will stop them from getting married. Olivia calm downs but decides to get another wedding dress.

Things go from bad to worse when a panicked Olivia tells Laura (Monét Mazur) she lost her engagement ring. Laura tries to calm her daughter down and they retrace her steps to the kitchen where Olivia was washing dishes earlier. Olivia wonders if the ring fell down the kitchen sink, prompting her to send off a 911 text to Jordan.

Big decisions for Jordan and Layla

Jordan cooks breakfast at the beach house for Layla when she shares the house they are interested in is still available and the owners just countered their offer. All the newlyweds have to do is sign the paperwork to purchase the property, but they both seem hesitant to do so. By the end of the episode, they wound up passing on the house noting it didn't feel like home.

The conversation pivots to Jordan's search for a job. He's had offers, but he's not accepted a position. He wonders if he made a mistake not going into the draft to play football in the NFL, but she reassures him he made the right choice after the concussion he received in his final college game. He jokes the second championship ring was worth it.

Jordan eventually winds up at South Crenshaw High School to talk to Preach (Kareem Grimes) about Spencer and Olivia's bachelor/bachelorette party. Preach reaffirms the party is rated PG, but he then asks why Jordan keeps dodging South Crenshaw's new head football coach. Coach Bobby (Gilbert Glenn Brown) offered Jordan the quarterback coaching position, but Jordan doesn't want to take it. Preach thinks he should reconsider.

Spencer later shows up at South Crenshaw having received a text from Coach Bobby. The football coach thanks Spencer for all the donations to the football program and wants to name the gym after Spencer, but the NFL star politely declines wanting to remain anonymous. Coach Bobby then asks Spencer for a favor. He wants Spencer to convince Jordan to take the coaching job.

Partying will get you all the answers

Jordan arrives at Layla's lounge with a problem. He's losing his voice, which he's opted not to tell Olivia so she doesn't have another reason to panic. Layla puts him on vocal rest but surmises he's losing his voice because he's stressed.

When the duo arrives at the Baker house, Jordan has Layla speak for him as he works under the kitchen sink trying to help Olivia find her engagement ring. When Spencer shows up, Olivia admits she can't find her ring, but he doesn’t make a big deal about it. Instead, he encourages them all to get ready for the bachelor/bachelorette party.

At their Las Vegas-themed bash, two magicians, Mike (Anthony LaVigne) and Megan (Nathalia Castellon), don't really liven up the party. That is until they do a card trick.

Mike has Olivia pick a card and put it back in the deck of cards. She goes to sit down and he tells Spencer to check his pocket. He pulls out a rolled-up card with the missing engagement ring wrapped around it. Spencer and Olivia are perplexed about how the trick produced her ring, and Megan says she found it in Spencer's pocket. Olivia realizes the ring must have fallen in Spencer's pocket earlier in the day when she was hugging him. With the ring found, the energy of the party picks up.

Spencer also uses the party to take Jordan to the side and talk about the coaching job. He thinks Jordan is fearful about taking the job given his dad's legacy at the school as a former player, coach and principal. Not to mention, the football field is named after Billy (Taye Diggs). Jordan doesn't say anything, but it's clear Spencer's hunch is right. Spencer concludes his pep talk by saying Billy would want Jordan to take the job.

More bad omens

It's the day before the wedding when Spencer gets a call from Dillon (Jalyn Hall), saying his flight has been cancelled due to bad weather on the East Coast, meaning Spencer won't have his best man at the rehearsal dinner. Spencer shares the news with Olivia lying next to him, and after checking her phone, she discovers her grandfather and grandmother are also unable to fly out because of the bad weather.

After receiving some advice from his mom, Spencer tries to get Olivia to put the notion of bad omens behind her by taking her to the hot tub at the beach house. He tries to recreate the moment they first developed their connection years ago. Although they don't get into the water because there's too much chlorine in the hot tub, Olivia somehow feels better thinking her use of sage worked and spared them from getting in the water.

Unfortunately, by the end of the episode as the happy couple part ways, Spencer gets a call from their wedding planner. Their wedding venue has been ruined, but no details are given as to how.

In All American season 6 episode 13, "Victory Lap," Spencer (Daniel Ezra) is still reeling from not being drafted and is stunned to find out why. Attempting to put the night behind him, he focuses on being there for Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) on their wedding day. As the couple says "I do," The Vortex learns their marriage isn't the only thing worth celebrating as several of them get some big news. Here's what happened in All American season 6 episode 13.

Spencer, Olivia (Samantha Logan), Coop (Bre-Z), Grace (Karimah Westbrook) and Spencer's agent Eric (David Gridley) are all sitting in the James family home listening to an audio recording of Spencer critiquing the NFL combine process. Someone recorded Spencer's venting session when he was sitting with the other prospective players and circulated the clip to the team owners.

Spencer isn't apologetic for the words expressed, but is gutted that his words may be what keep him from playing in the NFL. Olivia and Grace try to offer words of encouragement, and Olivia leads them in the Serenity Prayer, citing it helped her in her dark moments.

Layla's missing her mom and Jordan's missing a shirt

The day after the draft, Jordan arrives at the Baker house looking for his custom white linen shirt for the wedding. In his search, he bumps into Layla who says it's bad luck to see each other before they get married. Jordan brushes off the tradition, claiming it doesn't count since they didn't lock eyes. While excited for their big day, Layla can't help but feel incomplete with both her mom and Jordan's dad not being present.

At the beach house, Olivia checks in on Spencer, who is determined to make this day about Jordan and Layla. Good thing too, because Jordan walks in still perplexed as to why he can't find his shirt. He makes a pivot in conversation and asks Spencer to do the honors of marrying him and Layla, noting Spencer is the greatest gift his father gave his family. Touched, Spencer agrees.

Back at the Baker house, Patience (Chelsea Tavares) is quiet as she does Layla's makeup. Earlier, Patience received a video call from her friend in New York, who shared she is working on a Broadway show and the director wants to offer Patience a role. She has a lot on her mind as a result, but doesn't open up to Layla about what's going on, but she does ultimately talk to her about it later.

Laura (Monét Mazur) walks in with Layla's wedding gift: blue diamond earrings from her mom’s necklace when she got married. Layla's dad gave Laura permission to have them turned into earrings for Layla, and the bride-to-be is incredibly moved.

Still freaking out about his shirt, Jordan is pacing as Olivia approaches carrying a garment bag. After giving him a hard time, Olivia shares their mom isn't bringing her new boyfriend to the wedding because she thinks it will take away from Jordan and Layla's big day, which gives Jordan pause (he later surprises Laura and invites her boyfriend to the wedding for her).

Olivia then shows Jordan her big gift for him. It's the very shirt he's been frantically looking for. She took the shirt and had their father's old football number sown into the inside and on the cuff so Jordan would feel their father at the ceremony.

A wedding day full of surprises

As Patience performs a song she wrote for Jordan and Layla, the wedding party makes its way down the aisle. It's a big feat for Patience, as she's been having stage fright about performing again, which was one of the things preventing her from accepting the Broadway opportunity.

After everyone is settled, Spencer performs a touching ceremony, full of insight into Jordan and Layla's romance and jokes from members of The Vortex. The happy couple exchange I do's, and are officially married.

During the reception, Patience and Coop take a minute to talk, with Patience revealing her Broadway opportunity. Coop isn't immediately supportive, citing Patience is a singer not an actress, and professing she doesn't want to lose Patience. The words prompt Patience to storm off, but the couple are later able to make up with Coop saying she plans to attend multiple shows in New York.

On the dance floor, Spencer and Olivia are quite cozy and she commends him for how well he's handling things after what happened the night before. He takes a moment to commend her too, as he reveals the sales of her book jumped 100%. Spencer explains Olivia's team had been trying to reach her but her phone is off. She's thrilled to hear she's on her way to being a best-selling author.

When Asher starts to deliver his best-man toast, things are going well until Spencer's phone starts to go off, attracting the attention of the whole room. He apologizes, but then a number of phones start going off, including Asher's. Asher looks at his phone and encourages Spencer to answer his, which is now ringing again.

Spencer answers and it's Coach Montes offering him a position on the New York Bobcats roster. The future NFL star holds back tears just long enough to thank Coach Montes. As he gets emotional, his family and friends gather around and hug him.

What's the future look like for Spencer?

The series jumps 10 months ahead. Spencer and the New York Bobcats are competing in the Super Bowl with a chance to win the franchise's first championship title. Not only does Spencer score the winning touchdown, but he's named the game's MVP as a rookie. Olivia, Jordan, Layla, Coop, Laura and Grace look on, proud of him.

As if the moment couldn't get sweeter, Spencer takes Olivia to the 20-yard line and gets down on one knee to propose. She happily accepts.

Unfortunately, when the time comes for a team to choose him, he finds himself completely devastated by the unexpected outcome.

Elsewhere, Olivia (Samantha Logan) releases her book to an underwhelming audience, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) talk wedding-day plans and their future as a married couple and Asher (Cody Christian) makes a decision about his career.

Spencer thinks he knows best

Spencer tells Olivia he thinks it’s likely St. Louis will draft him since the team has a top-five draft pick and is in need of a wide receiver. After trading some banter about him going to the worst team in the league if his hunch is true, he gifts her a diamond tennis bracelet. Spencer then prepares to leave, but she encourages Spencer to enjoy the quiet moment with her a little longer considering things are about to get hectic for them. Not only is it Draft Week, but she has her official book launch event and Layla and Jordan’s wedding is quickly approaching.

When Spencer eventually makes it to the James house, he’s still in a generous mood. He looks at some jewelry that was sent for him to wear on the NFL Draft Day red carpet, and lets Dillon (Jalyn Hall) pick out a few things to wear, but presses his little brother from doing too much. As far as Grace (Karimah Westbrook), Spencer gifts her with a brand-new car, citing she can use it to travel to see him play. She’s reluctant to take the gift, noting it isn’t wise to spend money when he hasn’t even signed an NFL contract yet. He replies he just used some of his NIL money in his savings account, and she eventually accepts the gift.

On day one of NFL Draft week, Spencer meets up with his agent Eric (David Gridley) and immediately gifts him an expensive watch. Eric is also reluctant to accept it, but Spencer assures him that he bought it with money from his savings.

As Spencer commences to signing autographs, he spots Miles Bright (Chiderah Uzowulu) who he met during the NFL combine. They trade hellos, and immediately afterward, Eric pulls Spencer to the side and encourages the professional hopeful not to think of Miles as a friend but as a competitor. Spencer shrugs off the advice before telling Eric he won’t be able to make the official corporate lunch as he’s going to Olivia’s big book launch.

Eric stresses the importance of Spencer going to the lunch as owners and cameras will be there, and it may not go over well with the owners if he doesn’t show. Spencer is determined to be there for Olivia and tells Eric to figure it out. Having seen the conversation unfold, Coop (Bre-Z) talks to Eric one-on-one, and advises him not to push Spencer too hard. In return, Eric says he’s trying to make Spencer see if he rubs people the wrong way, he’ll quickly fall in draft prospects.

Does Jordan choose Asher or Spencer to be his best man?

Layla and Jordan rehearse their wedding dance, and he flirtatiously goofs off. Layla eventually cracks a smile before pivoting to a serious topic — who will be Jordan’s best man?

Jordan thought they weren’t selecting a maid of honor or a best man, but Layla counters that Olivia made herself the maid of honor, meaning Jordan needs to choose between Spencer and Asher. While Spencer is like a brother to Jordan, he’s known Asher since grade school.

Unable to make a decision, Jordan speaks with both men individually but only discovers more pressing things to worry about. Talking to Spencer, Jordan realizes that he and Layla haven’t talked about where they may live after the wedding. Speaking with Asher, Jordan remembers that he and Layla never talked about whether or not they want to have kids.

However, during a subsequent conversation with Asher, Jordan’s oldest friend gives him a pep talk. Asher assures Jordan that he doesn’t need to be nervous about marrying Layla as she’s always been his endgame and they’ll figure out their future together. The wise words are enough to sway Jordan into asking Asher to be his best man, which he accepts.

Further lightening Jordan’s mood, Layla shares with him later that she’s actually been looking at places to live after the wedding. Plus, she does want kids one day, but just not soon.

Olivia’s book launch fiasco

At the bookstore signing, things get off to a rocky start as only Olivia's mom and The Vortex are there to support her. She looks absolutely gutted as Spencer walks through the door, and he’s unable to cheer her up.

A few beats later, Eric walks in with the press. Eric talks Spencer up as having come to the event to support the book about his late mentor, and even gets a random kid in the bookstore to pose for pictures. Spencer isn’t amused by the stunt as it completely overshadows Olivia’s moment.

After the event, Layla offers to throw Olivia a better book signing, but Olivia politely declines. However, once Olivia is able to shake off the disappointment, she reaches out to publishers on social media for advice and Spencer’s high school girlfriend Kia (Asjha Cooper). Kia manages to set up a book reading for Olivia at an elementary school in Crenshaw that proves to be successful.

Asher quits

There’s a new sheriff in town at Coastal, as Coach Edwin (Tripp Pickell) is the new head football coach. Asher tries hard to make a formal introduction, hoping to convince the coach to keep him on staff as an offensive coordinator. When Asher takes the initiative to give Edwin a book profiling the strengths and weaknesses of the players, the coach pretends to be impressed. Unfortunately, Asher would later find the book in the trash.

Feeling out of place at Coastal now, Asher shares with Jaymee (Miya Horcher) his desire to quit, which she supports. He eventually makes a call to the first Coach Montes (Alexandra Barreto) he worked for, and he’ll now be on the coaching staff at Beverly Hills High School.

Spencer’s NFL hopes slip away

At the beach house, Coop walks in and gives Spencer a pep talk about cutting Eric some slack. She says Eric really does have his best interest at heart. Spencer takes the words to heart and later apologizes to Eric for blowing up on him after Olivia’s book signing. Eric also apologizes for overstepping.

During the official evening ceremony for Draft Day, the commissioner is giving a welcome speech when the general manager of the St. Louis team walks by Spencer’s table and doesn’t acknowledge him, making for an ominous sign. When it’s time for St. Louis to pick their first draftee, Miles is chosen, which shocks Spencer, The Vortex and the commentators. Coop asks Eric to find out what happened, which he leaves to do.

Spencer’s NFL draft hopes continue to fall as team after team picks other players. When Eric returns to the table, he doesn’t have much to share about why teams are passing over Spencer, but Coop believes he knows something. By the end of the episode, having not been selected by a team, Spencer is officially not a first-round draft pick.

In All American season 6 episode 11, "The Next Episode," Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and the rest of the Vortex, minus Patience (Chelsea Tavares) and Coop (Bre-Z), are ready to spend a couples vacation together in Mexico for spring break.

Unfortunately, things don't go to plan and they wind up volunteering at South Crenshaw High School as the students put on a Shakespeare production. However, the event proves to be eye-opening for Jordan and Layla, who make a decision about their wedding.

As for Patience and Coop, it’s time for Miko’s (Courtney Bandeko) trial to begin. With it starting to look as if Miko could escape justice, Coop takes matters into her own hands. But does her plan work?

Alternative spring break in Crenshaw

Spencer is at South Crenshaw with Preach (Kareem Grimes) as he talks to a classroom full of students about Shakespeare and their upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet. Once the class dismisses, Preach's daughter Amina (Alexis Chikaeze) runs up to Spencer to hug him and introduce him to her boyfriend Bryce (Lionel Johnson Jr.). Preach is quick to claim she is too young to have a boyfriend.

Back at the beach house, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) discuss their excitement for their vacation when both of them simultaneously get emails about their dream wedding venue having an opening in their schedule, though they hide that fact from each other. Spencer and Olivia (Samantha Logan) arrive and break up the awkward moment, but the foursome soon comes to a sad conclusion.

Trying to check in for their flight, Jordan realizes he booked their vacation package for the following week. Their getaway is ruined. Spencer has the bright idea to go to South Crenshaw to help them with their Romeo and Juliet production. Needless to say, Olivia, Jordan and Layla aren't thrilled when Spencer drags them to the high school, as it's a far cry from the beaches of Mexico.

At South Crenshaw, Preach asks Olivia and Layla to work with Amina and Bryce, helping them prepare as the young Romeo and Juliet. Spencer is assigned to help his mentee Deion (Taiv Lee), and Jordan is asked to assist Khalil (Antonio J Bell), who is less than thrilled to be there. Khalil quickly manages to insult Jordan and start an argument with Deion. As it turns out, Khalil and Deion are friends turned enemies.

After more bickering between Khalil and Deion, and a pep talk from Spencer and Jordan about friendship, Khalil and Deion manage to repair their friendship.

Is Miko guilty?

Elsewhere, Coop talks with Laura (Monet Mazur) about the Miko case, which is set to start that day. Laura breaks the news that Miko's defense team turned down a plea deal; likely offered because the prosecution wasn't sure about the strength of their case. When Coop relays the sentiment to Patience, the latter becomes understandably frustrated. Patience notes if there's no guilty verdict, she's moving back to New York, where she'd feel safe with Miko back on the streets.

Coop not wanting to see her girlfriend leave LA, tries to think about what she can do to help ensure a guilty verdict. Laura made it clear the prosecution can't use information about Miko's previous sealed case. Wanting advice, Coop goes down to the high school to speak to Spencer.

While she doesn't loop him in on the latest or even speak with him one-on-one, Coop listens to an argument he has with Preach about Shakespeare. Spencer talks about another Shakespeare play, Hamlet, where Hamlet puts on a reenactment of his father's murder, just to see if the murderer would confess to the killing. That gives Coop an idea and she leaves.

The future attorney arrives at the courthouse and runs into Miko's parents. She mentions information from Miko’s previous stalking case, which alarms them because the people involved in the incident were paid off and signed NDAs. However, Coop says the victim in question had a boyfriend at the time they failed to pay off and she points to a man sitting across the lobby. Coop states he's there to testify about what he knows from the incident to help bolster Patience's case. Realizing what such a testimony could do, offscreen the parents talk to Miko's defense team and they wind up taking a plea deal. Miko is headed to prison.

Later, Patience gets the news and is thrilled as she shares it with Coop. It doesn't take long for Patience to realize Coop is responsible for the outcome of the case, and she expresses her gratitude. Coop also notes that the man she paraded as the previous victim's boyfriend was a delivery driver she paid off to help her bluff with Miko's parents.

Where's the romance?

Laura prepares to go on her first date since Billy (Taye Diggs) died. Feeling nervous about what to wear, she calls over Grace (Karimah Westbrook) and Denise (Alexis Fields). The duo helps Laura pick out an outfit and reassures her that it's okay for her to go to dinner. They wind up giving her a pep talk again in the middle of her date, as it begins to tank fast. Thankfully for her, her dinner companion is rather understanding.

Then there's Asher (Cody Christian) and Jaymee (Miya Horcher). With the Mexico plans ruined and AJ with Jaymee's sister, they decide to have a romantic staycation together. Unfortunately, that proves difficult as they can't stop talking about AJ. Plus, Jaymee gets called into work.

After Asher speaks with Olivia, he gets the idea to plan a romantic date for him and Jaymee at home, with accompanying romantic questions they can ask one another. Jayme is thrilled by the surprise and it looks like their real staycation is about to kick off.

A wedding date is set

Back with Jordan and Layla, throughout the whole day working with the students, they don't take time to talk about the emails they received about the wedding venue. Even Spencer gives Jordan a push and Olivia gives Layla the same, but the engaged couple beats around the bush and doesn't bring up a wedding date.

It's not until Spencer and Olivia trick them into having a subsequent discussion that Jordan and Layla talk about the emails. They both admit to being nervous about bringing up a wedding, especially since their perfect venue only has availability a month away. However, the duo shares their mutual love and commitment to one another and decides an April wedding is perfect. They've officially set a date that happens to coincide with the NFL draft. Spencer is confident he'll be a first-round draft pick and in the clear to be at the wedding, but that's yet to be seen.

Unfortunately for him, he cracks under pressure and sees his chances of being a top NFL draftee slipping through his fingers.

Spencer doesn't have all the answers

Spencer and Grace (Karimah Westbrook) finish dinner with NFL coach Bryant (Chris Cordone), who happens to be the uncle of Spencer's agent Eric (David Gridley). The coach is impressed with Spencer's achievements on and off the field, noting it couldn't have been easy being raised by a single mother. The statement bothers Spencer, he says he never lacked for anything and his mom is his hero. This wouldn't be the last time Spencer finds himself uncomfortable by statements and questions about this personal life.

The following day when Spencer arrives for the NFL Combine, he's met by Eric's boss, Gordon (Brendan Wentworth), who's there instead of Eric because of the grandness of the occasion.

After a good night's sleep, Spencer goes right into interview mode, speaking with the coaching staff from various teams. They all ask questions prying into Spencer's life, from why he quit football in high school to Olivia (Samantha Logan) and her leaking the GAU cheating scandal to his affiliation with gangs to the relationship between his mom and Billy (Taye Diggs). He walks away from the interviews very upset.

When Olivia calls to check in on Spencer, he's short with her and mentions how bad the day has gone. Although she tries to reassure him everything will be okay, he's not so certain. After they hang up, Olivia talks about the situation with Laura (Monet Mazur), who knows from Billy's experience at the combine that things can get rough for NFL prospects. Laura encourages her daughter to be there for Spencer.

As night falls, Spencer runs into Darnell (Da'Vinchi), who encourages him to come hang out with the other NFL prospects. Spencer isn't in the mood. Darnell comments that Spencer needs to loosen up, encouraging him to live in the moment and realize they're on the cusp of living out their dreams. That gets a smile from Spencer, but he still heads to his room.

Gordon pays a visit to Spencer and wants to talk about the interviews. He assures him everyone is being asked invasive questions. The agent says Spencer better learn how to play the game like Darnell and Wade (Christian James) because while they are climbing up in the draft ranking, he's sliding down.

For all the advice Spencer receives, it's Olivia surprising him at his hotel room that helps Spencer get out of his funk. She pushes Spencer to connect with the other guys going through the combine experience and tells him to be genuinely thoughtful about his answers in interviews and not so reactive. Olivia also says everything he's been through hasn't broken him but has helped shape him into the person he is today, advising him to remember that going forward.

When the second day of interviews kicks off, Spencer is tossed hard questions and he hits every one of them out of the park with his answers. By the episode's end, he meets up with Olivia and shares it looks like he'll be a top-five draft pick. She's excited by the news and gives some of her own: she has decided to share the legacy of her dad via a children's book, a switch from her original biography idea.

Layla hires Jaymee

Layla is under pressure at her lounge, as they prepare to launch a brunch. Talking to Jordan (Michael Evan Behling), she notes how much therapy homework she has to complete. Her latest assignment is listing her successes and failures for the year. Wanting her to focus on her mental health, Jordan encourages her to miss the first day of brunch service and to let him take care of things. He reminds her she already set up everything and he can do this favor for her. Layla ultimately takes him up on his offer.

On the day of the brunch, things are going well, with only some minor hiccups. Asher and Jaymee (Miya Horcher), the only members of The Vortex able to make it, talk with Jordan about how much they've enjoyed the food when a bartender up and quits. When Jordan tries to take over bartending duties, things go from bad to worse as he's without use of one arm due to an injury he got playing with baby AJ. Thankfully, Jaymee is there and has restaurant experience, swooping in to save the day.

When Layla calls Jordan to check on things and hears that a bartender quit, she immediately heads to the lounge. However, upon her arrival, things are running smoothly thanks to Jaymee, who offers to help Layla with brunch service tomorrow.

The following day, things are running even better with Jaymee serving as de facto manager. Impressed, Layla offers Jaymee the opportunity to be a full-time manager of her place. Layla also wants time to focus on other things. Jaymee initially turns down the opportunity, but after speaking with Asher, who encourages her to do something she loves, Jaymee accepts the position.

Now with some more free time, Layla is ready to get back into producing music. She took some time off after Patience's (Chelsea Tavares) near-death experience but is now ready to dive back into the music industry.

Asher says goodbye to Coach Montes

Asher gets news that Coach Montes has accepted a job as an NFL coach, leaving him stunned. While he's uncertain about what this means for his coaching career at Coastal, he's more perplexed with how to say goodbye. He spends much of the episode dodging Coach Montes' phone calls.

It's not until he has a conversation with Olivia that Asher realizes Coach Montes is leaving Coastal but not necessarily leaving him. Additionally, Olivia tells Asher he gets a chance to say goodbye to Coach Montes, a luxury he couldn't do with Billy. Taking Olivia up on her offer to babysit AJ, Asher goes to Coach Montes' going away party.

Asher arrives too late though, as Coach Montes left. However, his wife, the other Coach Montes (Alexandra Barreto), catches up with him. She hands Asher a note and a necklace from her husband saying her husband doesn't worry about what's next for Asher as he'll have more championship rings than fingers and bought him the necklace for the extras. Mr. Montes then calls Asher and this time he answers the phone.

All American season 6 episode 9 recap: do Spencer and Jordan win the championship game?

In All American season 6 episode 9, appropriately titled "100%" as the show's 100th episode, Spencer (Daniel Ezra), Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and the rest of the GAU team compete for a national championship. However, before they get there, Spencer takes a walk down memory lane to get over some last-minute nerves.

Speaking of the game, Asher (Cody Christian) and Coastal are GAU's opponents, and during the game, he's given an amazing gift. Elsewhere, Layla (Greta Onieogou) plans an impromptu wedding for her and Jordan, and Coop thinks she's found the key to making sure Miko (Courtney Bandeko) goes to prison for attacking Patience (Chelsea Tavares).

Here's what happened in All American season 6 episode 9.

The return of Shawn

Spencer is dreaming about himself on a football field when Shawn (Jay Reeves) appears. Shawn hands Spencer a ball and out of nowhere comes a pack of pee-wee football players chasing Spencer down the field. When Spencer finally wakes up, Olivia (Samantha Logan) consoles him as this marks the third time Spencer's had a dream about his dead frenemy. Olivia presses Spencer to figure out what the dreams mean so he can focus on the upcoming championship game.

The next day, Spencer visits the football field where he used to play the game as a kid. Grace (Karimah Westbrook) surprises him, saying Olivia thought he could use her help. She gives her son several small boxes with mini replicas of all the fields he's played on, with real dirt from those fields. She then pulls out an empty box for the NFL team "lucky enough to have him." Spencer is appreciative.

Spencer's next stop is the South Crenshaw football field where he meets former teammate Chris (Spence Moore II). He tells Chris his dreams about Shawn, but Chris can't really shed light on what they mean. However, Chris does share that back in high school, he was jealous that Spencer went to Beverly Hills to play, but he now admires Spencer for trying to do the right thing for his football ambitions and his family. Chris encourages Spencer to just focus on tomorrow's game.

When Spencer arrives at the Beverly Hills High School field, he bumps into Asher, who often frequents their old stomping grounds. After hearing of Spencer's dreams, Asher notes Spencer is probably just nervous as he has a lot on the line in his final game before going to the NFL. The friends start going down memory lane, and call Jordan to join the fun.

Without an explanation for his dreams, Spencer returns to South Crenshaw and finds Chris, who has one of the mini replica fields Grace gave him. As the two friends chat, Coop (Bre-Z) shows up and jokingly asks Spencer, "Don't you have somewhere to be?" The words unlock the mystery of the dreams for Spencer, who thinks Shawn was trying to get him to face whatever he had emotionally brewing underneath so he can be ready for whatever the future has waiting for him.

Coop's smoking gun

Coop spends the majority of the episode trying to get to the bottom of a mysterious case involving Miko. The future attorney finds out Miko was involved in a previous legal issue, but the documents have been sealed. When Coop shares the information with Laura (Monét Mazur), the latter notes she already knew about it, but given the information is sealed, it won't be helpful for Patience in the trial. Coop disagrees.

After doing some more digging, Coop tracks down a woman named Jalessa (Shannon Timberlake), whose name was connected to the sealed case. Coop shows her a picture of Miko and Jalessa turns to leave, saying she can't help her because she signed an NDA. However, she does warn Coop that she and Patience should stay far away from Miko.

Later when Coop tries to give Laura some updates, Laura still believes the sealed case is a moot point, especially with Jalessa not being able to talk about anything. Coop is still determined to help Patience, and isn't willing to let this go, even hinting she may resort to illegal methods to attain all the information she wants to know.

Layla plans a wedding

The day before the game, Jordan stops by to see Layla as she tries to do some journaling for therapy. She's so far unsuccessful, so she pivots to her excitement about throwing Jordan and Spencer a congratulations party the next day. While he's happy to hear of her plans, he wants her to prioritize her therapy homework. She reluctantly agrees.

When Layla goes by the beach house later, she runs into the boys' roommate Charissa (Melissa Jane Rodriguez). Charissa puts doubts into Layla's head that Jordan still wants to marry her, which leaves Layla puzzled.

Back at the Baker house, trying to find something that will spark her journaling, Layla looks in an old box belonging to her parents. In it, she finds her mother's wedding dress. Between this find and advice from Coop about how to conquer fear, Layla gets the idea to turn Jordan and Spencer's party into a surprise wedding for her and Jordan. Olivia isn't keen on the idea when Layla tells her of her big plans, but she wants to support her friend.

The wedding never comes to fruition, however, as Olivia encourages Jordan to speak with Layla first. Layla says she was worried he was pulling away from her and wants to prove they aren't her parents. He says He'd rather the wedding be about them and not her mom and dad. She agrees.

Do Spencer and Jordan win the championship?

The championship game is closely contested between GAU and Costal. Right before halftime, Coastal scores a touchdown to even the score, but their wide receiver is injured in the process. The injury leaves the team in trouble, and Wade (Christian James) suggests Asher suit up as he already knows all the plays. The coach isn't initially sold on the idea.

By the time the game reaches the fourth quarter, the teams are still neck and neck and it's downpouring rain. Hoping to get the advantage, Coastal puts Asher into the game and he quickly scores a touchdown. However, he's hit hard in the end zone and is down for the count. Spencer and Jordan frantically worry, and so does Jaymee (Miya Horcher), who's watching the game at home. After a scare, Asher jumps up in celebration.

With 12 seconds left in the game, and GAU down by three, Mac (Jamel King) and Spencer disagree on what to do. Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) intervenes and sides with Spencer. The final play of the game sees Spencer run the ball for a touchdown, with Jordan blocking for him.

Spencer has plenty to celebrate with the game-winning play, but the icing on the game is Olivia agreeing to move in with him at the beach house; just one of Olivia's big decisions, as she also decides not to publish her dad's biography after the editor wanted to include Billy's affair.

In All American season 6 episode 8, "Kids See Ghosts," Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) returns to guide Spencer (Daniel Ezra), Olivia (Samantha Logan) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) as they all face some personal dilemmas they need to work through. Elsewhere, Layla (Greta Onieogou) finds a therapist willing to help her seek an alternative to antidepressants. However, when they start an EDMR journey, she's forced to remember some hidden scars of her past.

Here's what happened in All American season 6 episode 8.

Spencer steps into Billy's shoes

Spencer and Olivia arrive at his mom's house to house-sit for Grace (Karimah Westbrook), who is in Cabo with D'Angelo (Lamon Archey). Olivia gets a message from her editor about the book. Turns out she's been dodging him after missing her deadline, believing the book is missing something.

Before Spencer and Olivia can continue discussing the issue, Deion (Taiv Lee) arrives needing a place to stay. The teen claims his sister kicked him out of the house after he quit the football team. Spencer agrees he can stay there temporarily.

Later, Spencer, Olivia and Jordan arrive at the Baker house to meet Laura (Monet Mazur). Laura pulls out two letters from a box, one for each of the twins. She says Billy wrote them and they were to be read after they each graduated college. However, she is giving Olivia her letter early since Olivia is having trouble finishing the book; Jordan gets his letter early because Laura jokingly doesn't want to hear him whine.

Spencer is about to excuse himself when Laura says she has something for him from Billy as well. She hands him a journal Billy started writing shortly after Spencer moved in with them. Spencer doesn't believe he's deserving of such a personal item, but Laura insists Billy would want him to have it.

As Spencer starts reading Billy's journal, Billy appears. Billy questions if he's out of his mind for letting Spencer move into his home, but notes Spencer needs guidance and has so much potential. Just then, Deion interrupts Spencer's reading, saying he's going out. When Spencer asks Deion where he's going, Deion becomes defensive and abrasive before leaving.

Spencer again reads the journal and Billy pops back up, saying teenage boys "smell disgusting, run around eating up things, constantly pissed off." Spencer can't help but laugh thinking about how he was when he first moved into the Baker home. Billy says he eventually realized the best way to reach Spencer was to speak to the person who knew him best, Grace. This gives Spencer the idea to talk to Deion's sister, Tasha (Shawana Carter).

When Tasha and Spencer meet, she wastes no time ripping into him. She blames him for her brother quitting, but Spencer fires back that Deion hated football. Spencer says Deion quitting football is no reason for her to kick him out of the house, and she surprises Spencer by sharing that's not what happened, a point that Spencer later brings up with Deion in a heated moment that Olivia has to break up.

Before Spencer heads to bed, he reads some more of Billy's journal. Billy says Laura gave him the best advice when trying to determine how to help Spencer. He doesn't have to figure it all out on his own, which are the exact words Olivia shares with Spencer.

The next day, Tasha arrives at the James home, much to Deion's surprise. Spencer gets the siblings to talk and Tasha learns her brother was having panic attacks playing football. Deion learns his sister doesn't care if he plays football, but rather wants him to have more than she has in life. The duo manages to solve their issues and go home.

Is Jordan declaring for the NFL draft?

When Jordan reads his letter, Billy appears and says he knows people will try to get Jordan to be just like him, but he's not perfect. He encourages Jordan to have the strength of his own convictions and notes he believes in Jordan.

Reading his father's words, Jordan goes to meet with Mac (Jamel King) for advice about the NFL draft. Mac advises he focus on finishing the college season strong in the upcoming championship game, as it will help him raise his prospects should he decide to go into the draft.

Later, alone with Layla at the beach house, Jordan watches an interview featuring Mac. The interim head coach at GAU compliments Jordan as exceptional and takes a little credit for his success on the field this year. When Mac is asked whether or not Jordan plans to declare for the draft, Mac notes that most quarterbacks that enter the league early washout, so it would be premature for Jordan to enter the draft now.

Jordan goes to confront Mac the next day. Mac says it's nothing personal, he was just talking about the numbers in the league. The young Baker rebuts those are just the numbers Mac chose to highlight. Jordan also comments that Mac attributed Jordan's success to his work. Jordan says this is all about Mac not wanting to lose his starting quarterback next season.

By the end of the episode, Jordan speaks with the same interviewer Mac talked to and claims he plans to finish out his college football career with Coach Kenny Boone (Mustafa Speaks). Jordan attributes Boone as the reason he and GAU have been successful.

Olivia submits her book

Olivia is reluctant to read her dad's letter, believing she's not ready to hear from him. Then in another parallel moment, Spencer recalls when his dad died, how he too had a hard time reading his letters. However, it was Olivia who pushed Spencer to realize the letters were a gift and that he was strong enough to read them. He then looks at Olivia who now has the strength to read Billy's words.

Billy shares with his daughter that she's destined for great things and that he believes in her. These words eventually give her the strength to send the draft of her book to the editor.

Layla again struggles with thoughts of her mom

Layla meets with her new therapist Dr. Gibbs (April Parker Jones), and the two start EDMR treatment, a process that uses sensory tools to help Layla drudge up memories and wade through past traumas. As she begins the process, she recalls a memory of her mother being severely depressed and lying in bed and her dad desperately trying to get her up. Going further, Layla becomes her mother and Jordan becomes her father. Dr. Gibbs helps Layla realize the reason she's been dragging her feet on marrying Jordan is because she's subconsciously afraid she's her mother and Jordan is her father.

Later talking to Jordan, Layla assures him she doesn't want to call off their engagement, but needs some time to work through her feelings about her mother and her own mental health struggles. Layla also makes a point to say they are not her parents, as her mom didn't know how to ask for help and her dad didn't know how to give it. Layla is asking and Jordan is there and patient, ready to help her.

All American season 6 episode 7 recap: all the couples are tested

In All American season 6 episode 7, "Passin’ Me By," each of the Vortex couples faces some turbulence in their relationships headed into New Year’s Eve. However, will love, and in some cases sacrifices, prove to be enough to save each relationship? Elsewhere, one character makes the decision to leave Los Angeles.

The night before the big game

As Spencer (Daniel Ezra) walks into the gym for a workout the night before the game, expecting to be alone, he stumbles upon Mac (Jamel King) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) in the middle of an impromptu press conference. A reporter asks Jordan how it felt to be a finalist for the Heisman trophy. While he would have liked to win, he felt it a privilege to be considered. When questioned about his plans to enter the NFL draft, he claims to be focused on GAU’s playoff game the following day.

Before things wrap up, a journalist notes that Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) is out for another game, leaving Mac in charge. Mac simply says that Coach Boone is dealing with a family emergency.

After the press conference, Jordan catches up with Spencer who finally starts working out. Jordan apologizes and assumed Spencer would have been invited to speak to the reporters, but Spencer says he’s just happy Jordan is getting some well-deserved shine. Jordan nods and then pivots to talk about Layla (Greta Onieogou), who has been guarded about her feelings in regard to her lounge being vandalized.

Jordan later speaks to Layla at the lounge, inquiring if she followed up with her doctor about adjusting her antidepressant medication. She says she’ll eventually reach out to her doctor, but is more concerned about the status of her place. The security footage for the lounge was scrubbed and the police have no leads on who trashed it. Jordan’s worries about his wife-to-be aren’t alleviated.

One person makes a decision to leave LA

The morning of the game, Spencer and Olivia (Samantha Logan) head into the kitchen of the beach house to find Charissa (Melissa Jane Rodriguez) making them pancakes. Charissa, who’s a chef, notes being happy to cook for them and then asks if they want her tickets to eat tacos prepared by a Michelin-star chef. Spencer and Olivia take her up on her offer, as the couple is determined to spend New Year’s Eve together after the game.

Jordan stops by Layla’s lounge to have a contentious conversation with Ryan (Brian Borello). The GAU quarterback blasts Ryan for persuading Layla to go off her meds and for leaving town for two weeks while Layla was left behind to deal with the aftermath of the break-in. Ryan defends himself and suggests Jordan not use him as a punching bag and go speak to Layla.

Back with Spencer, he stops by his mom’s house for a gameday tradition of eating breakfast with her and his brother. Unfortunately, he’s still full from eating earlier, and Grace (Karimah Westbrook) jokes as if she’s insulted. The family banter is interrupted when she gets a phone call saying Dillon (Jalyn Hall) has been accepted into the Boston Benwood School of Arts. The family is excited, but Dillon has to move to the East Coast by the following Monday.

Before Olivia can get out the door to go to the stadium for the game, Ashley (Chibuikem Uche) shows up at her front door announcing he’s leaving tomorrow. She apologizes for not being as available to hang with him, but he shrugs it off and asks to hang out after Spencer’s game. He proposes sketching a portrait of her. She doesn’t think that’s a good idea and notes that their friendship in London meant everything to her, but perhaps they got a little too close.

Is GAU headed to the National Championship game?

Going into the second quarter, the score is tied at zero and Jordan notices that Layla is nowhere to be found, which is throwing off his game. It’s not until halftime in the locker room that Mac begrudgingly lets Spencer share his plan with the team to get Jordan's head in the game, that GAU gets their offense going. Jordan and Spencer both wind up scoring touchdowns which leads to a team victory.

As the team later celebrates the win in the locker room, Olivia walks up on Spencer as he looks at Mac getting too comfortable in Coach Boone’s office. Spencer tells his girlfriend that Coach Boone has been helping his sister deal with an emergency involving his nephew.

Spencer and Olivia are interrupted when Kai (Tre Hale) asks what the team is doing to celebrate their trip to the championship game. Spencer states he’s grabbing tacos with Olivia, and Kai interprets that as a team invitation. When Spencer tries to clarify, Olivia just announces that Spencer’s having a taco party at the beach house. The couple agrees, however, that the party won’t last long and they’ll carry on with their plans later.

Trouble in paradise for all the couples

Asher (Cody Christian) has been given the all-clear from his physician to do full-on practices with the Coastal football team. As the team runs drills, he shows up Jabari on the field, but when Jaymee (Miya Horcer) appears with the baby in tow, she blasts Asher for putting his heart in jeopardy.

When the pair later speaks at Spencer’s last-minute taco party, she blasts Asher for being reckless. However, Asher shares that his new cardiologist gave him permission to practice with the team. The news further upsets Jayme who wasn’t aware he got that update or that he even had a new doctor.

Thankfully, Asher and Jaymee work things out when he claims she and their child are more important than risking his life playing football. However, he longingly looks away as if his football aspirations may not yet be over.

Jordan stops by Layla’s place and confronts her about missing the game. She apologizes, but he immediately asks why she hasn’t been more proactive about asking her doctor about her medication. That starts an argument that he vents about to Spencer and Olivia at the party. Olivia suggests he take a moment and be helpful rather than combative with Layla. Which gives him the idea to look up alternatives to antidepressants, which Olivia later appreciates.

Elsewhere, Patience (Chelsea Tavares) tells Coop (Bre-Z) she wants to go meet with Miko (Courtney Bandeko) to clear up her reputation. Coop says it’s a bad idea, which Patience doesn’t appreciate and storms off. As soon as Patience is gone, Coop recalls that Layla keeps a gun in a safe in the Baker house, and when Coop goes to look for it, it’s gone.

Patience and Preach (Kareem Crimes) rush to find Patience sitting outside Miko’s home with the weapon. The duo blasts Patience for being so careless and informs her that attacking Miko will only land Patience in prison. Patience ultimately comes to realize they are right.

Back at the taco party, Ashley arrives with a portrait he created of Olivia. She sees the gift as inappropriate and surmises he brought the portrait to Spencer's with hopes of creating drama. When Spencer enters the conversation, things get tense between him and Ashley, but Olivia diffuses things by asking Spencer to let her handle it. Spencer and Olivia would end the night ringing in the new year with a kiss at a closed museum, just the two of them.

All American season 6 episode 6 recap: communication is key

In All American season 6 episode 6, "Connection," Spencer (Daniel Ezra) is looking forward to spending a quiet day at his dad's cabin with Olivia (Samantha Logan). Unfortunately for him, Olivia complicates things when she invites Coop (Bre-Z), Patience (Chelsea Tavares), Layla (Greta Onieogou) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) to tag along. The impromptu Vortex outing gives the friend group the opportunity to work out all the friction between them lately. So do they succeed?

Spencer tells Olivia he's going to his dad's cabin to finish some homework and watch a little of the Sonoma football game; if Sonoma loses, GAU gets to go to the playoffs. Spencer invites Olivia to accompany him, and she is more than happy to go.

On their way out the door, Coop stops Spencer and Olivia and asks them if it's okay that she and Patience go to the cabin too. Patience has been incredibly stressed out with the Miko (Courtney Bandeko) case and subsequent bad press. Olivia gives the green light for them to join and Spencer does the same.

Before the now-foursome can walk out the door, Jordan and Layla come in, stressed out by Jordan and Spencer's new neighbors. Olivia invites them to the cabin too, much to Spencer's chagrin. Spencer and Jordan are still not speaking to each other, but Spencer begrudgingly tells Jordan and Layla they should join them.

Relationships are tested

At the cabin, Spencer and Jordan are upset the Wifi has inexplicably gone out. Spencer can't do his homework and they can't watch the Sonoma game. The duo is ready to go home, but Olivia raises the idea Spencer use the six of them to collect some data on relationships for his paper. The group agrees to play along for Spencer's sake, even Jordan.

In the first exercise, Spencer tasks the group with goal setting, which is designed to show how people prioritize, compromise and communicate in their relationships. They each have to list three of their most important goals. Spencer says he wants to help GAU get a championship, finish his degree in the summer and get drafted into the NFL. Olivia is caught off guard by the news he plans to graduate early, as he never shared that with her.

When it's Olivia’s turn, she says she wants to publish her dad's book, graduate college and move back to London. Spencer is surprised to hear she wants to move to London again, as they also hadn't talked about that.

Layla's answers also cause some confusion. She gives more than three things, which prompts Patience to make the joke that Layla is a hustler and maybe Ryan (Brian Borello) was right about her not taking her meds. This is the first time Jordan is hearing Layla has not been taking her antidepressants regularly, which bothers him. Especially, considering Ryan is the one who influenced her.

During Spencer's next exercise, the group is tasked with splitting into pairs. The current couples pair off, with Patience and Coop coupling. The duos are supposed to hold one another's hand without talking to each other for three minutes. Only Patience and Coop are successful with the assignment. Jordan argues with Layla about her not taking her meds and "lying" about it. Spencer and Olivia get awkward about the secrets they've been keeping from one another.

The relaxing day in the cabin looks like it will be an overall disaster by the time Spencer brings up the final group activity. They again are partnered up in twos. While one person is blindfolded, the other must guide them through a trail. Upset with Jordan, Layla partners with Patience, prompting Olivia and Coop to couple up, and leaving Spencer and Jordan to finally work out their tension with each other.

As Patience and Layla walk, Patience apologizes for spilling the beans about her meds to Jordan, but also presses Layla about why she hadn't told him. Layla doesn't think Jordan would understand, but Patience urges her to give him a chance as Jordan loves her. In turn, Layla also tells Patience she should talk to Coop. Patience has been feeling rejected since Coop pulled back from their attempted kiss, so Layla thinks she should just open up to Coop about it.

Olivia and Coop discuss Olivia's relationship woes with Spencer. Olivia recognizes she and Spencer haven't fully reconnected since being back, and recalls the last time she felt this disjointed with Spencer, they broke up, which she doesn't want to happen. Coop says Olivia and Spencer just need to talk because not talking about who they are now and hiding their feelings is what will drive them apart.

Spencer and Jordan make small talk about their troubled new roommates until Spencer brings up the fact that Billy (Taye Diggs) once told them that their on-field beef should never carry into their brotherhood. Spencer then apologizes for being egocentric and selfish during the last game. Jordan jokes he missed some other words in his apology, but Jordan appreciates Spencer's sincerity. The two finally make up — for now.

Before the group leaves the cabin, Spencer stumbles upon Coop fixing the Wifi. She apparently knocked it out shortly after the group arrived to force them all to bond. Spencer isn't mad at her deception. When the Wifi is back up, Jordan gets a text that Sonoma lost their game, meaning GAU is going to the playoffs.

Reconnections and bad vibes

Jordan apologizes to Layla for coming down so hard on her about her decision to self-regulate her medication. She says her decision wasn't about Ryan, but everything to do with the fact she feels different now. She promises to see a doctor to get a better handle on things, and surprises Jordan by saying she wants to set a date for their wedding. Unfortunately, the episode doesn't end on a happy note for Layla, because she and Jordan go to her lounge to see her place has been terribly vandalized.

Back at the Baker home, Patience goes into Coop's room and tells her she loves her. Appreciative of the declaration, Coop fully embraces her. Sadly, during a conversation with Laura (Monet Mazur) in the kitchen, Coop learns that Miko's legal team requested the court case be moved up. Furthermore, the team claims that Miko was exercising self-defense when she attacked Patience.

Things end on a happier note for Spencer and Olivia. She apologizes for keeping Ashley's (Chibuikem Uche) gender a secret. She claims she avoided telling Spencer Ashley is a guy because she didn't want to risk losing her friendship with Ashley. She had come to lean on Ashley a lot while in London as he wasn't a reminder of Billy. While London is the city she loves, she tells Spencer he is the boy she loves. The two try to build on this, and he gives her the journal he was writing in while she was away. In turn, she allows him to be the first person to read the completed draft of her dad's biography.

Speaking exclusively with What to Watch, Kareem Grimes, who plays Preach, took a moment to share his thoughts on the new season and shed some light on what fans can look forward to seeing in the upcoming episodes. Not only did he tease a surprising development with Preach, but he also was brave enough to pick a side in the Spencer vs Jordan dilemma.

How does it feel now that All American is finally back on the air after a long hiatus?

Grimes: Amazing man, it's a blessing. My story, I was only supposed to do two episodes on All American, and here we are, sixth season. A full 180 of his [Preach] character from where he started. Now he's a father, a single father. Also a teacher now, a full-time teacher now at South Crenshaw. It's just a blessing. I think any actor who gets these opportunities, of course, you're grateful for the work, but to do the work and they appreciate it and they keep you on, it just speaks volumes.

How was it going into this season, officially the first one without Taye Diggs as Billy?

Grimes: For me, I think coming back season 6 was like taking up where Taye left off. You know, making it fun and comical on set. I do little videos with the castmates. But just kind of like taking on that role, especially for my character being at South Crenshaw, he's a teacher, and just carrying that legacy that he [Digg's Billy Baker] left and Preach kind of taking on that role.

But yeah, we kind of knew in season 5 and were just like alright, the show must go on. So we were just happy to be back and wanting to fill the void that he left, and make sure that we shouted him out throughout the show, his character, to let him know what his presence has left leaving the show.

As the new season has picked up, there’s a lot going on. Is there a storyline that you think is your favorite so far?

Grimes: [Laughing] We just shot it and I wish I could tell you, but just know it is something I think the audience and everybody will or has experienced in junior high or high school. Everybody has probably experienced it if they've gone through drama class or maybe an arts elective. It's amazing how these writers week in and week out are just able to tap in. Without giving too much away, it's going to be a really good episode. I think you'll be able to see another side of Preach that you haven't seen before, which is probably going to shock a lot of people. But we just shot it, and I think it's episode 11, so you have a while. That so far is probably one of my best, and episode 5.

We're gearing up for the 100th episode of All American, is there anything you can tease?

Grimes: [Laughing] Man, I wish I could. All I can tell you is that one of our castmates directed the episode. To be honest, unfortunately, I wasn't in the 100th episode so I really don't know. I’m going to be a fan like everybody else.

Before I let you go, with Spencer and Jordan feuding, whose side are you on?

Grimes: It's interesting because they're both in the talks for the Heisman, so now you have that situation. I think what it is for me, I would kind of side with Spencer a little bit because of his circumstances. You know, inner city, wanting to take care of his mom and wanting to do all those things, you want to root for him to be able to go to the league. So he can be able to take care of his mom and his brother.

Lastly, what are you watching currently outside of All American?

Grimes: That's good, it's so many shows. I just finished watching The Gentleman on Netflix. I’m a big Guy Ritchie fan. I'm watching Invincible, it's an animation on Prime. It's also really good… Those two come to mind right now.

Spencer (Daniel Ezra) has been having his share of problems on the field and with Jordan (Michael Evan Behling) lately, and in All American season 6 episode 5, "Trust Issues," Spencer hits a roadblock in his relationship with Olivia (Samantha Logan). The couple is shaken when a friend from London pays Olivia a visit.

Elsewhere, a bright spot for Spencer arises when he helps rising high school star Deion (Taiv Lee) through a small crisis, reminding him of another passion outside of football.

Spencer and Mac collide

With Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) away due to a family emergency, Mac (Jamel King) is in charge in a down-to-the-wire game. Jordan throws a touchdown pass to Spencer; a surprise as Spencer hasn't been receiving the ball as much these days.

When GAU regains possession, Spencer tells Jordan to throw it to him. However, Jordan opts to throw to another player and the pass is incomplete. Spencer gets in Jordan's face. Jordan is surprised his best friend is aggressively coming at him like that on the field, with cameras picking up the tension. As tensions rise on the field, Spencer makes the mistake of making a helmet-to-helmet tackle of an opponent and is ejected from the game. GAU loses.

After the loss, Spencer tries to apologize to Mac. Mac claims they lost because Spencer has become selfish, putting his needs above the team. Spencer retorts that had Mac called for Spencer to get the ball, they would have won. Mac again brings up Spencer's selfish behavior, noting he showed up to practice hungover and repeatedly disrespects the coaching staff.

Spencer asks Jordan his thoughts. Jordan agrees with Mac. Now GAU has to wait to see if another team loses to determine if they make it into the playoffs.

Olivia's friend Ashley

The doorbell rings at the Baker house. Olivia opens it to find a big basket of British snacks and her friend Ashley from London, who's there to help Olivia push past her writer's block, especially in light of the fact her publisher moved up her book deadline. She invites Ashley in and while the two are catching up, Jordan and Layla (Greta Onieogou) walk in and are surprised to find out Ashley is a man. Whispering, Layla asks Jordan if Spencer knows Ashley is a man. Jordan is confident he doesn't.

Trying to diffuse the awkwardness, Olivia says she is going to invite The Vortex over later so they can all officially meet Ashley. Layla and Jordan are still perplexed, but agree to show up for the festivities later.

At the beach house, Preach (Kareem J. Grimes) is making Spencer and Coop (Bre-Z) breakfast. Spencer is watching a video of the game where he's yelling at Jordan. That prompts him to ask if they think he's selfish? Coop replies Spencer can focus on himself without coming off as a jerk, encouraging him to take a beat to gain perspective. Preach suggests Spencer could do that while again helping out with Deion.

Saving Billy’s legacy

In the hallways of South Crenshaw, Grace (Karimah Westbrook) meets with Preach and informs him the school board is making more budget cuts, including for the after-school program he runs. Preach is gutted by the news as the program was entrusted to his hands by Billy (Taye Diggs). Grace understands the importance of the program and insists she championed it among her colleagues on the board.

The following day, Preach drops off Dillon (Jalyn Hall) at home and speaks to Grace about writing grant proposals to find alternative funding for the program. She says she's too busy to do it. However, when Dillon offers to help more around the house, she reluctantly agrees to work on the grant application. Can the grants rescue the program?

Back at the Baker home, Ashley asks Olivia why she is afraid to interview her mom for the book. Olivia does a good job at evading the question.

A passion beyond football

Spencer walks into the high school just in time to see Deion being confronted by his abrasive sister Tasha (Shawana Carter). Tasha blasts her brother for playing like "trash" at practice in front of big college scouts and not opening offer letters from schools at home. She asks Spencer to talk some sense into Deion and leaves. Spencer offers to take him to grab some food instead.

When they get back to the high school, Spencer notices Deion starts having a panic attack in front of the other students. Spencer gets Deion to use some breathing techniques to calm down. When Spencer gets Deion one-on-one, he asks the teen how long he's hated football, pointing to the unopened offer letters, the distracted practices and his anxiety as proof. Deion says football is all he knows.

Spencer says football may be all he knows now but that doesn't mean it will be all he ever knows. He encourages Deion to give himself permission to explore what he really likes and wants out of life. Deion tells Spencer if he didn't already declare for the draft, he would make a great therapist. Those words remind Spencer he really does love helping people and it was his whole reason for majoring in psychology.

After a subsequent conversation with Dillon of all people, Spencer seems set to look at being a psychologist as his second act after the NFL.

Spencer meets Ashley

After a day of giving advice, Spencer meets with Olivia and Ashley. Spencer tries his best to hide his shock that Ashley is a guy, but fails. While the two men exchange compliments of each other's talents, the tension remains thick.

At the impromptu get-together Olivia planned, Spencer asks her why she didn't tell him Ashley was a man. Olivia says she never said Ashley was a woman, but he replies she never corrected him whenever he referred to Ashley as she. Olivia tries to gloss over the situation.

By the time the episode ends, Olivia and Spencer share few words; their dynamic is off. That being said, Spencer stands firm in his belief that he trusts Olivia.

Jordan and Spencer get new roommates

Elsewhere in the episode, Jordan is on the hunt for some new roommates as he and Spencer can't afford to stay at the beach house now that Asher (Cody Christian) and JJ (Hunter Clowdus) have moved out. Layla helps Jordan with the task and it looks dismal until they interview a couple that seems sweet on the surface. However, when it's time to move into the beach house, the couple is at each other's throats, leaving Jordan and Layla concerned.

Spencer (Daniel Ezra) raises a glass, well several, to his 21st birthday in All American season 6 episode 4, "Black Out." As the title suggests, Spencer gets blackout drunk. He doesn't even remember the special birthday gift Olivia (Samantha Logan) got him, which leads Spencer to spend the episode trying to piece together what happened when he and the Vortex came together to celebrate.

Unfortunately for Spencer, his recapping journey doesn't bring him any closer to finding the gift. Worse, he comes to realize that his drunken antics were highly problematic.

Here's what happened in All American season 6 episode 4.

Spencer wakes up at Wade's

It's the morning of Spencer's birthday and Olivia wakes him up with a kiss and muffins based on his mom’s recipe. He’s appreciative and suggests they spend his birthday evening together instead of bar hopping with the guys. She wants him to go out and celebrate, promising to catch up with him to give him his gift. Olivia leaves him to enjoy her muffins, which unfortunately he hates.

Spencer goes to Grace's (Karimah Westbrook), who figured Olivia may not make the muffins to her standards, so was prepared with backups for her son's visit, along with some birthday champagne. Dillon (Jalyn Hall) doesn’t get any as he's underage, but Spencer shares Layla (Greta Onieogou) said Dillon can come to her lounge later to celebrate Spencer.

The episode then cuts to a montage of a wild night of drinking for Spencer. When Spencer wakes up the next morning, he's in a strange house. He looks around to find a picture of his former enemy, Wade Waters (Christian James).

What did Olivia get Spencer for his birthday, and where is it?

Spencer arrives to football practice late and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) isn't happy to see him. Spencer is shocked at Jordan's demeanor. Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) sends Spencer home for the day as it's clear he's hungover.

Instead of going to the beach house, Spencer stops by his childhood home to speak to Dillon. He asks about Olivia's gift, but Dillon has no idea what it is. However, he does recall Spencer moonwalking shirtless on Layla's bar. Wanting to find the gift and learn what else he may have done the night before, Spencer seeks out Coop (Bre-Z) for answers.

Coop takes Spencer to one of the bars they visited the night before. The bartender has no clue about Spencer leaving anything special behind, but gives him the lost and found box to comb through.

The best friends find nothing, but a drunk man at the end of the bar calls out to Spencer, remembering the college star from the night before. Vaguely recognizing man, Spencer flashes back to being drunk with his friends. He was 15 shots into the 21 shots he planned to have for his birthday when Olivia showed up. As the couple shared some cute banter, a news report came on the TV announcing Wade is going to Coastal. Additionally, the news anchor said Spencer is no longer the only Heisman Trophy contender at GAU, as Jordan is now in the talks for the award. The report annoys Spencer, who ordered another shot.

Back in the present, Spencer and Coop head to Layla's Lounge. When they arrive, Coop bails after spotting Patience (Chelsea Tavares), leaving Spencer confused. Talking to Layla and Patience about Olivia's gift, they are also no help. However, they mention they all bought him a birthday cake, which prompts another flashback.

During the night before, the Vortex sang Spencer happy birthday at Layla’s Lounge. When he blew out the candles, he angrily looked at Jordan. As Spencer walked off, Layla asked what that was about, but Jordan just pretended to be shocked she suddenly has time for him.

Later, Jordan jokingly asked Spencer how many shots he's had. In return, Spencer said people are just passing him shots, but at least they are passing to him, a dig at Jordan for not throwing to Spencer on the field. Jordan tried to smooth things over, claiming he didn't know the news story was going to run. But Jordan also pointed out that Spencer is mad at him for getting a small taste of Spencer's life.

Asher (Cody Christian) arrived just before things between Spencer and Jordan went any further, and the two teammates asked Asher about Wade being on the Coastal team. To their surprise, Asher admitted he’s responsible for Wade being on the team, which made Spencer and Jordan irate. The rest of the Vortex also held Asher's feet to the fire about the revelation, remembering all the bad things Wade did to them. Olivia tried to diffuse the situation but fails.

After Olivia took Dillon home instead of arguing the point further, Spencer got into a shoving match with Asher. Jordan tried to break the two up, but Spencer grabbed a handful of cake and smashed it in Jordan's face. Jordan then pushed Spencer, and a brawl ensued. Even Patience got in the mix after a guy tried to attack her, but ultimately, she got him on the ground begging for mercy.

Back in the present, Spencer is incredibly apologetic to Layla and Patience, then leaves to meet with Asher. In the Coastal coaching offices, Spencer finds Asher and Wade and apologizes to them both. They accept his apology, and Wade fills Spencer in on how he wound up on his couch.

Apparently, Spencer showed up at a bar where Wade was already sitting. Spencer wanted another shot, but the bartender was reluctant to serve him. When Wade tried to interject and get Spencer a shot, Spencer became angry and swung at Wade, but badly missed and fell. The bartender wanted to call the cops, but Wade offered to take Spencer to his place instead.

No closer to remembering what Olivia got him for his birthday, Spencer goes to see her. He's remorseful he can't remember her gift, but she simply laughs. She pulls up his shirt so he can see he has a tattoo on his rib cage of two hands. Olivia then shows him she has the same tattoo, and they got matching ones on his birthday as a symbol of their love and bond.

Repairing relationships

Elsewhere in the episode, Layla and Jordan are upset with one another. He's been feeling as if she doesn't have time for him these days. The fact she refused to move in with him didn't help his feelings of rejection. It's not until Jordan spends time with Olivia in the park talking about their dad that Jordan realizes his argument with Layla isn't worth it. By the end of the episode, he goes to her lounge to apologize and the two make up.

Coop and Patience, meanwhile, have a good time at Spencer's party hanging out. When the two leave the party and arrive back home, the exes-turned-friends talk a bit before Patience leans in for a kiss. Despite wanting to reunite with her, Coop rejects Patience's kiss, wanting to first discuss their feelings. The rejection kills the mood, and Coop is now doing everything she can to avoid Patience.

Finally, Asher spends the episode letting his feelings of betrayal get in the way of his coach/player relationship with Wade. Asher has been tasked to get Wade up to speed with Coastal's plays, but he spends more time being snarky with Wade. It's not until Wade reveals to Spencer he let him sleep the alcohol off at his place that Asher starts to believe Wade has changed and is deserving of a second chance. It looks like Wade and Asher may even one day become friends.

Elsewhere, Olivia (Samantha Logan) gets started on the research for her dad's biography by interviewing someone who knew Billy (Taye Diggs) growing up in Crenshaw — Grace (Karimah Westbrook). Unfortunately, a walk down memory lane takes an awkward detour and leaves both Olivia and Grace with some unprocessed feelings to deal with.

Spencer's loss is Jordan's gain

The GAU football team finishes up a game where they've blown out the competition. Spencer asks Jordan why he didn't throw him the ball on a play he would have usually done so in the past. Spencer suspects Jordan is holding onto feelings about him declaring for the draft and not telling Jordan about Olivia's book beforehand. Jordan claims to be fine and that he's just following Mac's (Jamel King) analytics.

Speaking of Mac, in the locker room, Spencer watches from a distance as he meets with Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) and Dr. Gutenberg (Charlie Farrell), the university president. Spencer's suspicions about their meeting prove warranted as the trio winds up announcing Mac is now the new offensive coordinator, a step up from just being an analyst.

Spencer pulls Coach Boone to the side and says the move is a way to position Mac to take his job. While it's clear Boone is not a fan of Mac's promotion and is aware of the implications, he notes to Spencer that business is business.

Olivia meets with Grace

Olivia is a walking ball of nerves when she speaks to Layla (Greta Onieogou) about interviewing Grace for her book. Layla questions if it's a good idea considering the complicated history between Grace and Billy. Olivia says if she's starting with her dad's childhood and teenage years, Grace is a great place to start. Laura (Monet Mazur) has already given her blessing.

When Olivia sits down with Grace, the two ladies have a good time rehashing Billy's past. Denise (Alexis Fields) even joins them with her dedicated box of Billy memorabilia. Then in an awkward moment, Denise says she didn't think anything would keep Billy and Grace apart back in the day. Not thinking, Liv makes a joke that the affair was proof of that. Quickly realizing her faux pas, Olivia apologizes and immediately exits.

Alone with Layla, Oliva admits she didn't realize she had unresolved feelings about the affair and probably let the awkward words slip out of her mouth because of her emotions. When Olivia goes back to meet Grace to share her realization, Grace is graceful and understands Olivia's feelings.

Spencer snaps at practice

Spencer and Coop (Bre-Z) are at the beach house waiting to meet a few agents who want to represent Spencer. While he can't sign with anyone until he officially enters the draft portal, he can start to be proactive.

One agent leaves a lasting impression when he notes Spencer has received fewer touches with the ball this season. He says if that continues, Spencer's stock will drop when it comes to the draft. These words sting Spencer a bit. It should be noted, the agent's assistant, Eric (David Gridley), appears unsure of his boss’ assessment.

Later, Spencer steps back into Crenshaw High School to meet with Preach (Kareem J. Grimes). Preach wants Spencer to talk to young star Deion (Taiv Lee), who is a bit withdrawn under the pressure of all the lights. Deion isn't overly receptive to talking with Spencer, but eventually agrees to go to a GAU practice upon Spencer's invitation.

It's not only Deion at the practice, but Coop and Eric as well. Unfortunately, practice doesn't go Spencer's way after nearly all the plays don't involve him. Spencer calls Jordan out on it, and Jordan claims to be running Mac's offense. In frustration, Spencer asks to play defense.

Spencer absolutely shines in the defensive position, much to Jordan's chagrin. Jordan eventually throws an interception into Spencer's hands, which prompts Spencer to yell at Jordan, "Is this what it takes for me to get you to throw me the ball?" Spencer shares some more fiery opinions before Coach Boone kicks him off the field.

Later, Spencer apologizes to Deion for not being a better role model. Deion is shocked to hear an apology. He lets his guard down with Spencer, inviting him to his game.

When Spencer is catching up with his mom at their family home, Eric comes by to tell Spencer not to let the words of his boss get in his head. Furthermore, he says while practice didn't go the way Spencer intended, he was impressed with his obvious desire to play ball and his defensive chops. Eric thinks when the time comes, plenty of people will pay Spencer attention as an NFL prospect. This all prompts Spencer to ask Eric to become his agent when he's eligible for the draft.

Does Layla actually want to get married?

Jordan and Layla (Greta Onieogou) talk about the wedding. Layla is very nonchalant about it, whereas Jordan is eager to get planning underway.

The conversation quickly pivots to Jordan feeling bad his recent football success is coming at the expense of Spencer having fewer plays designed for him. Layla tries to reassure Jordan that Spencer will find a way to get his touches, and it's okay to focus on Jordan's highlight reel season. Hoping to further cheer him up, Layla offers to call a few wedding planners and have them meet with him and Layla later. Jordan is impressed with her initiative and takes her up on the offer.

After the previously mentioned disaster of a practice with Spencer, Mac approaches Jordan in the locker room and wants to take the star quarterback out to eat. Jordan asks for a raincheck as he's set to connect with Layla. Mac is shocked to learn Jordan is engaged and hopes that doesn't serve as a distraction for the season.

At Layla's lounge, she is fussing with vendors on the phone. As she wraps the call, her business partner Ryan (Brian Borello) walks in and senses her tense mood. He tries to get her to lighten up with an impromptu dance session. She is reluctant at first, but eventually starts to move to the music. On cue, Jordan walks in and catches them.

Ryan excuses himself and Layla explains she's had a stressful day; Ryan was helping her to decompress. Jordan asks where the wedding planners are. Layla admits to forgetting to call them. An annoyed Jordan swiftly exits. Jordan eventually winds up meeting with Mac in his office and the two enjoy a drink. Mac is ready to make Jordan the star of the team, and Jordan is ready to see that happen.

Left behind at her lounge, Layla reconvenes with Ryan. Layla notes her feelings about the wedding, and her mood in general, are a bit anticlimactic. She thinks it has something to do with her antidepressants. Ryan says it may be time for her to see a doctor to see if they can recalibrate the medication.

Asher has a quarterback problem

Asher (Cody Christian) leaves his heart doctor appointment with good news only to walk into the Coastal football locker room to hear that the team's starting quarterback has torn his Achilles. This sends the coaching staff into a tizzy, as they now need to recruit a player to come in last minute.

Trying to come up with a solution, Asher comes up with the idea to recruit GAU disgraced football player Wade (Christian James); the very Wade that was at the center of GAU’s scandal and suspension under the previous head coach's tenure. While Asher knows his decision won't be popular with the Vortex, business is business.

The relationship between Jordan and Olivia (Samantha) also faces some rocky moments after she drops a bombshell about her latest writing project.

After the Vortex finishes up a fun night at the beach house, Spencer, Jordan and Olivia are left alone huddled around a fire. Wanting to give the twins some alone time, Spencer tries to excuse himself to clean up, but Olivia awkwardly insists she do the cleaning. She takes some dishes into the house, leaving Jordan puzzled, who asks Spencer about his sister's weird behavior.

The next morning walking around the GAU campus, Spencer calls Olivia out about her awkward moment. She reveals she didn't want to be left alone with Jordan. She's nervous to talk to him about writing her dad's biography. Having not told Jordan or Laura (Monet Mazur) about her desire to write the book, she's apprehensive they may not want her to work on it.

Spencer and Olivia's conversation pivots as a man comes on the loudspeaker and wishes Spencer and the Condors luck with their first game. Olivia jokingly questions how the rest of the team feels about being his background singers. He notes the pressure is becoming a bit much, as he's constantly asked by the media about his chances to win a Heisman Trophy and the probability he declares for the NFL draft.

A feud is brewing

At GAU football practice, the media is once again front and center. Spencer, Jordan and the rest of the team decide to put on a bit of a show, highlighting the other talent on the team, deviating from regular plays. Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) notes the players are showing off.

After practice, Mac McClelland (Jamel King) pulls Jordan to the side and properly introduces himself as the offensive coordinator. Mac compliments Jordan as a great player, away from his ability to pass the ball to Spencer. He also encourages the quarterback to focus on his ability and the team as no one knows if Spencer will be around next year, a remark that catches Jordan off guard.

Later, Olivia talks with Jordan one-on-one about her desire to write their dad's biography. He says it sounds "cool," but stops short of giving her his blessing, needing time to process the idea considering her past writings tend to have an explosive quality about them. Olivia says she wouldn't do anything to dishonor their father's legacy, but lets slip that she already has a publisher. Jordan storms off after hearing the full truth.

Spencer vents to Grace (Karimah Westbrook) about all the press and exposure being a distraction to the team. His mom urges him not to see it as a distraction but as his chance to fulfill his dreams of playing in the NFL.

Grace wonders what his apprehension is about going into the NFL. She asks if he's scared because declaring after his junior year means he won't satisfy his mom's desire he graduate, or if he's nervous that being in the NFL means he'll again be in a long-distance relationship with Olivia?

During a restless night at the beach house where baby AJ has managed to wake up everyone, Spencer and Jordan tell Asher (Cody Christian) they are heading to the Baker home to spend the night with the girls.

As Spencer settles in Olivia's room, Olivia hears Jordan talking about her in the room next door with Layla (Greta Onieogou). Jordan vents that Olivia came back to town unchanged and is frustrated she is ready to write a book about their dad whether he and Laura like it or not. Olivia shares with Spencer that Jordan is more upset with her rather than at the pending biography.

While Layla advises Jordan to keep in mind that Olivia is still trying to deal with the grief of losing their dad, Oliva expresses to Spencer her desire to be able to talk to Billy (Taye Diggs) right now. Spencer seconds the sentiment, and Olivia tells him her dad would likely advise Spencer to finally focus on himself. She says Billy admired Spencer's superhero complex, but states there was a big difference between "regular football" and the NFL. With regular football, you play for the team, but with pro ball, you play for yourself and your family.

The next morning, Olivia apologizes to her brother for her initial approach in talking about the book. Olivia asks him to meet for dinner with their mom to discuss everything, and he amicably accepts the invitation. Things are going well until she mentions Spencer will be there as he’s been a part of the book idea since her time in London. Jordan is again left puzzled.

Does Spencer declare for the NFL draft?

It's game day and Spencer has a phenomenal first half, but GAU still struggles against their opponents as the other team quickly learns to heavily guard Spencer. After Jordan throws an interception concluding the half, Spencer urges Jordan to keep his head up, but Jordan rebuffs the advice.

In the locker room, Coach Boone chews the players out for their poor play. Spencer then tries to talk to Jordan again, but Jordan goes to get his rib wrapped. As he’s being cared for, Mac approaches Jordan and encourages him to take some chances on the field and utilize his own gifts.

After halftime, Coach Boone calls a play that again is designed for Spencer. However, before the team takes to the field, Mac tells Jordan now is the time to show the opponents the unexpected. Those final words convince Jordan to execute a series of plays that don't involve Spencer and the team winds up winning.

As the team celebrates the win in the locker room with the press, reporters blow by Spencer and interview Jordan and the rest of the team. One reporter does speak with Spencer and asks his thoughts about not really getting to touch the ball in the second half. Spencer says he's happy for the team, before declaring his intentions of going into the NFL draft after the season, which pulls the attention of all the reporters.

Later at dinner with Olivia and Laura, Jordan calls Spencer out on making the declaration because he couldn't stand the shine not being on him for once. Before the two men really get into a full-blown argument, Olivia shares the book news with her mom, who gives her the green light to write it. Jordan also signs off.

Asher and Jayme move out, and Patience starts her fight training

Throughout the episode, Asher and Jayme (Miya Horcher) struggle with parenting a baby that's teething. Baby AJ has been crying a lot, which is taking a toll on not just them as parents, but on the whole group. Jayme feels bad that the baby is disrupting the lives of Jordan and Spencer, and she also doesn't like how much they rely on their village to take care of their baby. After speaking with Laura, Asher and Jayme decide to move out of the beach house with AJ and into the old Baker home in Crenshaw.

Elsewhere, with Miko (Courtney Bandeko) likely to get out of jail on bail, Layla convinces Patience (Chelsea Tavares) to take a self-defense class. Unfortunately, Patience isn't thrilled with the course after one class. Layla's business partner overhears Patience's discontent, and in a subsequent conversation with Layla, offers his services to Patience to teach her how to fight. Patience later shows up at the lounge to take him up on his offer.

In All American season 6 episode 1, time jumps ahead a year and three months from the events in the All American season 5 finale.

Spencer (Daniel Ezra) is thriving on the football field but he and Olvia (Samantha Logan) are in an awkward place in their relationship. Meanwhile, Patience (Chelsea Tavares) thinks she's ready to return to the stage, but has to contend with the unwelcomed hovering of Coop (Bre-Z) and Layla (Greta Onieogou). Plus, is an old dynamic between Spencer and Jordan (Michael Evas Behling) about to rear its ugly head?

Here's what happened in the All American season 6 premiere.

Spencer and Jordan are dangerously close to returning to familiar territory

On the Golden Angeles University field, Spencer and Coach Boone (Mustafa Speaks) are speaking with a sports journalist about the success of the team. The only reason the team isn't a bowl champion is because they were serving a suspension. Talk zeros in on Spencer, and the journalist mentions how he is in the conversation for a Heisman Trophy as a junior and his pending draft eligibility. Spencer is coy and says he's just focused on the season. He tries to loop in Jordan in the conversation and calls him over. Unfortunately, the journalist cuts the interview short, leaving Jordan disappointed.

In the locker room, Jordan watches as Boone calls Spencer into his office. Jordan makes a snarky comment to another player about Spencer behaving as if he's the sole reason for the team's success. The player quips that Spencer is Michael Jackson and Jordan is Tito.

Back with Spencer, the coach says he seemed distracted at practice. Spencer blames the press being there, but Boone notes that Olivia returns soon. The coach is happy his star player gets to see the love of his life again, but Boone warns Spencer not to let Olivia be a distraction. Spencer was incredibly focused and has grown on and off the field with Olivia gone, and Boone doesn't want Spencer to just toss all of this hard work away.

Asher is on daddy duty and Layla is a club owner

Asher (Cody Christian) is on daddy duty in the beach house kitchen feeding baby AJ. Jaymee (Miya Horcher) walks in dressed and ready to go to work. Although she's apprehensive about her new job, Asher assures her things will be fine and says he'll drop the baby off at daycare.

Over at the Baker house, Coop, Layla and Patience arrive with flowers to help Spencer decorate the house for his surprise welcome home party for Olivia. Spencer jokes he wanted to get the decorating done today so he can attend the grand opening of Layla's new club, called Layla's, where Patience will be performing for the first time since being stabbed.

The group's conversation is interrupted by a news report on the TV. Unauthorized personnel handled the camera footage showing Miko (Courtney Bandeko) stabbing Patience at the Baker residence. As a result, the footage can't be used in the prosecution's case against Miko, and it will be a she said vs she said type of case. A legal expert shares that it's likely the defense will attack Patience's character.

Avoidance is the word of the day

Coop calls Spencer out about not wanting to be alone with Olivia, saying Spencer's throwing a party instead of planning alone time with Olivia and he wants Laura to go with him to the airport to pick her up. Spencer turns the tables and says Coop has been avoiding telling Patience how she feels. However, Coop claims she hasn't found the right time because Patience was stabbed, then spent six months in a treatment facility in New York and now Patience is trying to get her career back on track with this trial serving as backdrop.

Later at Layla's lounge, Patience is rehearsing with Layla and Coop looking on. They keep asking if she is sure she wants to perform and about her well-being in light of the Miko news. Patience insists she's fine and that they stop hovering.

At the beach house, Spencer spends some alone time reading over a letter Olivia wrote him. As he does, the episode flashes back to his time in London with Olivia. They're in bed and she shares how much she loves the city. She's supposed to head back to LA with Spencer, but instead decides to extend her time as she feels she's on an important journey of self-discovery.

Back in the present, Spencer admits to baby AJ that Coop was right about him being nervous to be alone with Olivia. Jordan walks in and Spencer asks if Jordan wants to ride with him over to their meeting with Boone, but Jordan blows him off claiming he has wedding planning to do, which isn't for another two years.

During the meeting, the university president shares with Boone, Spencer and Jordan the deep desire that the boosters want the upcoming season to be a winning one. He also says the boosters want to meet with Spencer and Boone. Boone says he's busy during the day, but it's clear he’d rather not meet with them at all.

Olivia arrives early

While Layla is alone at the Baker house getting ready for the grand opening, she's startled to see Olivia pop up. Olivia arrived in town early to surprise everyone. As the two catch up, Jordan walks in and is excited to see his sister. Layla leaves them to talk. Jordan shares he feels silly for being jealous of Spencer. Olivia jokes that it seems as if he's gotten smarter.

Fast forward to the lounge's opening, Spencer walks into the venue with Coop and spots Olivia. He makes a beeline to her and they share a brief hello before they're interrupted by a fashion emergency for Patience backstage.

Unfortunately for Patience, a troubling zipper would prove to be the least of her problems. When she takes to the stage, she freezes and is unable to perform in front of the crowd. She even hallucinates seeing Miko and runs to the back. Thankfully, Coop saves the event from a total bust by taking the mic herself and rapping.

Are Spencer and Olivia back together?

When Spencer and Olivia finally get a moment alone together at the Baker house, they put their cards on the table. Olivia says she changed in London and finally discovered who Olivia Baker is. However, while she has changed, her love for Spencer hasn't. Spencer is happy to hear that and expresses his excitement about getting to know the new her, but he wants to take things slow.

In a later mysterious moment, Olivia reads a text that states "Miss you already. Hurry back to us." She also shares with Coop that she's not sure she would have returned to LA if it weren't for Spencer.

Then in a final moment, Boone is getting a late-night workout in when he's interrupted by the university president and a guest. The president says he wishes Boone would have met with boosters previously, but the mystery man will be Boone's new coaching analyst. Boone isn't thrilled by the news. The new analyst also makes it clear he's there to help Boone make use of his best asset, which he views is Jordan, not Spencer.

Since All American season 5 wrapped in May of 2023, viewers have been left on the edge of their seats waiting for All American season 6 to premiere to find out what happens next. Unfortunately, the wait between seasons has been longer this time around as there were industry-wide actors' and writers' strikes that delayed production for new episodes of the popular CW series.

What happened in the All American season 5 finale?

When season 5 concluded, the main characters were all finally making progress in their efforts to move on in the wake of Billy Baker's (Taye Diggs) death. Spencer and Oliva confessed their feelings for one another and are likely headed toward reconciliation. However, the duo will have to contemplate the future of their romance under some interesting dynamics given Oliva accepted a spot in a cultural exchange program that takes her to London for a little while.

Then there's Jordan and Layla (Greta Onieogou). The forever romantic finally convinced the young music exec to come out to the world about their relationship, leading him to pop the big question. She shockingly accepted his proposal, meaning Jordan is engaged for the second time (yes, he's barely a sophomore in college).

Amid all the love, tragedy struck at the Baker family home. In the final minutes of the season 5 finale, Patience (Chelsea Tavares) was stabbed by her stalker Miko (Courtney Bandeko) and left on the floor bleeding. Unfortunately, Coop (Bre-Z) was on her way to see Patience and reveal she still has feelings for her ex. It now looks as if Coop's big declaration will be overshadowed by a life-or-death situation.

All American punted from The CW fall TV schedule

As networks release their updated fall TV premiere dates, The CW released its new fall TV schedule and revealed that the highly-anticipated All American season 6 would be pushed to midseason. The scheduling move comes as the writers' strike continues to disrupt production on television projects around Hollywood and the globe.

The CW previously announced a fall lineup featuring a mix of reality shows and already-aired series from other countries. Now that the schedule has been firmed up, shows like All American, 61st Street and the I Am documentary franchise are being moved to midseason, presumably to ensure that the network has enough shows set aside given the current uncertainty surrounding writers' rooms and production.

The network already announced that Walker would debut at midseason, and that Superman & Lois season 4 and All American: Homecoming season 3 would target a spring 2024 debut with abbreviated seasons. Of course, the challenge with predicting scripted premieres is that everything is again dependent upon the strike.

In June, The CW also added global Biblical juggernaut The Chosen to its schedule. The series, which follows the life of Jesus Christ, premieres on July 16. With three seasons already completed, the series is expected to run on Sundays through Christmas Eve and more seasons are planned.

What's the status of All American: Homecoming season 3?

Despite being the spinoff and Monday night companion with All American, the powers that be at The CW were slow to announce whether or not All American: Homecoming season 3 would actually come to fruition. Fans truly found themselves worried about the future of the show when The CW fall 2023-2024 schedule was announced and a new show was teased to be taking Homecoming's usual Monday night spot.

To provide a little context about the delayed announcement on the status of the popular drama, last fall, media company Nexstar Media acquired The CW. With new ownership came a new vision for what the network would look like in the future, which meant a shakeup to its primetime schedule. Besides Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and crew over on All American, the only show saved originally from the fall 2022-2023 lineup was Walker.

In terms of canceled programs, Kung Fu, Tom Swift, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters all received the axe. Additionally, The Flash, Nancy Drew, Riverdale and DC's Stargirl were already slated to end their series' runs with their respective final seasons. Having said all that, only Homecoming, Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights remained on the cancellation bubble.

So were these shows renewed?

Thankfully for Homecoming watchers and fans of Superman & Lois, both series have officially been renewed by The CW. Respectively, the shows received a 13-episode (Homecoming) and 10-episode order (Superman & Lois).

Speaking on this exciting news, The CW President of Entertainment, Brad Schwartz, stated the following:

"We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW. These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons."

It looks like Homecoming fans will finally be able to see in season 3 if Simone (Geffri Maya) chooses Damon (Peyton Alex Smith) or Orlando (Martin Bobb-Semple).

All American: Homecoming seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix. You can also watch all episodes of the original All American series on the platform.

All American gets a new Monday night partner in The CW's fall lineup

The CW made some bold moves as it pertains to its fall 2023-2024 lineup. While All American viewers can breathe a sigh of relief with season 6 of the show settling back into its Monday primetime spot, fans of All American: Homecoming will be disappointed to learn that the spinoff is no longer scheduled to follow the original. Instead, Courtney B. Vance’s 61st Street will air with All American on Monday nights.

The change comes shortly after The CW announced that they acquired the rights of 61st Street from its original home, AMC. The series follows a public defender as he takes on a high-profile case defending a star athlete who is caught in a corrupt legal system after being suspected of an officer's murder. 61st Street also stars King Richard’s Aunjanue Ellis.

Now what of All American: Homecoming? That's yet to be determined. The fate of the show, along with those of Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights, remain unknown as the network hasn't made an official declaration about their renewals or cancellations.

Bolstering the rest of The CW's upcoming scripted lineup are shows like Sullivan’s Crossing, The Spencer Sisters and Walker, which is getting a midseason order. You can check out the full fall 2023-2024 lineup just below.

With the All American season 5 finale airing on Monday, May 15, show fans are racking their brains trying to figure out how a roller-coaster ride of a season will end. In the past 19 episodes, viewers have witnessed the shocking death of Billy Baker (Taye Diggs), the downward spiral of JJ (Hunter Clowdus), the baby development for Asher (Cody Christian) and of course, the rocky romantic life of Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia (Samantha Logan). Even with all this going on, perhaps the most jaw-dropping surprise is yet to come.

As teased in the promo video for the season finale, JJ finds an engagement ring in the beach house that seemingly belongs to either Asher, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) or Spencer. This begs the question, is someone getting engaged — and who?

We've compiled a list of reasons why any one of these young men could be ready to get down on one knee, but settled on the most likely candidate below. However, before jumping into that, make sure you check out the season 5 finale promo video.

Do Asher and Jaymee get engaged?

With Asher and Jaymee (Miya Horcher) expecting a baby and now living together, it's easy to assume that their next logical step may be marriage. For his part, Asher seems rather committed to building a family life with her. Asher got some sage words of wisdom from Coach Baker about fatherhood before he died, and the dad-to-be was adamant to Jaymee's sister that he would take care of her.

But looking at the promo video, Jaymee clearly tells Layla (Greta Onieogou), "I don't even know if I want to get married." It's possible that Asher already knows how Jaymee feels about marriage considering she was initially resistant to moving in with him. He may know better than to move too fast.

All in all, it's within the realm of reason to believe the mystery ring belongs to Asher and he plans to propose, but we don't think that will happen.

Do Spencer and Olivia get engaged?

Now these two haven't been in a relationship this season and have faced many hurdles in terms of any reconciliation. For starters, Spencer was dating Alicia (Pauline Dyer). A girlfriend tends to stand in the way of rekindling things with an ex.

Then there was the death of Billy. As Olivia's father and Spencer's mentor/father figure, his death greatly affected the former lovers on a personal level. Although they both relied on one another to get through their grief.

As things with Alicia are now over, Spencer and Olivia seemed to be on track to get back together until Olivia decided she was going to spend three months in London for a cultural exchange program. Despite telling her that he was happy for her, Spencer's expression as he hugged her told a sadder story.

In the season 5 finale promo clip, Spencer says to someone, "I ain't ready to lose another Baker." Those words sound like he's prepared to make a grand gesture. Since he told Olivia in a prior episode she should go after what she wants, is he ready to go after what he wants? We think so.

We're pretty confident Spencer will ultimately be the one to propose to Olivia and get engaged. While we envision she will still go to Europe for the summer, we believe Spencer will make Olivia his fiancé before she leaves. After the back-and-forth dynamic the pair have put fans through this season, viewers deserve these soulmates to finally become official.

Our prediction turned out to be wrong, as shown in the All American season 5 finale.

Do Jordan and Layla get engaged?

Show fans know that Jordan is not one to shy away from marriage, having previously been wed to Simone (Geffri Maya) before she ventured off to Atlanta and All American: Homecoming. If he loves Layla as much as he professes, it is completely logical to think he's ready to say "I do" again. Having a little more life experience this go around, could he be prepared to be a husband for the long haul?

Again referencing the trailer, Layla shares with Jordan, "Marriage is a big deal Jordan. It's not for everyone." That statement makes it seem as if she's not necessarily ready to walk down the aisle. Also, she spent much of the season trying to resist putting a label on her romance with Jordan and subsequently attempted to hide her relationship with him from their friends. Knowing that, we didn't see her saying yes to any kind of proposal at this juncture.

Oddly enough, our prediction was wrong. It turns out that Jordan and Layla are the couple that get engaged in the finale. Jordan popped the question and Layla said yes.

All American season 5 becomes available to stream in its entirety on Netflix on May 23.

All American reveals the fate of two couples with one dance

In All American season 5 episode 18, titled "This Is How You Do It," one could have easily thought they were watching some kind of updated take on the classic film Dirty Dancing. The steamy dance sequence (yes, a dance sequence on a show with its roots in football) truly shook things up for a few in the infamous Vortex, while leaving viewers grateful for the repercussions of the sensual scene. Here's what happened.

It all started with Olivia (Samantha Logan) searching for ways to get more involved with student life at GAU. After being rejected by a sorority that didn't approve of her controversial article exposing the former university football coach, she turns her attention to Spencer's (Daniel Ezra) friend Davita (Brittany Marie Batchelder) and the Black Student Union. Davita is preparing for an on-campus fashion show and could use some help, and Olivia is more than willing to offer her assistance. The young Baker just didn't know then how much assistance was going to be requested.

As the day of the fashion show got closer, chaos began to unfold as models pulled out due to a flu virus that was making its way around campus. Davita, needing people to replace the models, leaned on Olivia who agreed to model and dance in the show. Olivia also brought on Spencer, Spencer's ex-girlfriend Kia (Asjha Cooper) and the entire GAU football team to do the same.

Then came the big day and the dance. While the rest of the models performed behind them, Spencer and Olivia had a solo of sorts. Performing to Tems' "Higher," the exes moved in sync while passionately looking at each other as if they were in a room by themselves. However, they were very much on stage for all of the audience to see, which consisted of Spencer’s current girlfriend Alicia (Pauline Dyer), and she did not look pleased at all. After the big dance, Spencer and Alicia find themselves having a very uncomfortable discussion at the beach house. Not even hesitating, Alicia does what All American fans have been calling for over the past few weeks and breaks up with Spencer. With class and grace, she simply tells Spencer he could have handled the situation better, but knows he's not over Olivia, then walks out the front door.

With Alicia officially out of the picture, there is literally nothing standing in the way of Olivia and Spencer reuniting after spending an entire season apart. At this point, if they don't get together before the season 5 finale, fans will no doubt be just shy of irate.

Did All American's Spencer and Alicia break up yet?

Another day, another All American season 5 episode goes by where fans are left frustrated and asking the same question, "Did Spencer and Alicia break up?"

Make no mistake, the viewers posing this question aren't doing so out of loving concern, hoping that Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Alicia (Pauline Dyer) make it for the long haul. They instead are asking because Alicia is the last roadblock in the power couple known as Spelivia, that's Spencer and Olivia (Samantha Logan), reuniting. While Alicia may certainly be a lovely woman, All American fans have known from the start she is not Spencer's soulmate. This sentiment reached a fever pitch after the episode titled "Mask Off," which aired on Monday, April 24.

The episode started out with a family breakfast between Grace (Karimah Westbrook), Spencer and his girlfriend. While the moment seemed like a touching meal for mother and child, Grace didn't appear thrilled to have Alicia there making her son pancakes, with water instead of milk no less. The subtle side-eye Grace shot Alicia's way didn't go unnoticed by the All American audience, who condoned the feelings of the James family matriarch.

Then came Alicia inviting herself to Olivia's journalism award ceremony. To be fair, Spencer's current girlfriend thought she was being supportive of his ex-girlfriend, who actually played a part in Spencer and Alicia still being a couple (talk about complicated).

Although Alicia stepped into the ceremony confident in her relationship, her confidence wavered when she witnessed Grace giving a loving pat on the back to Olivia. Alicia's concerned facial expression was a familiar one as she's displayed it several times watching Spencer and Olivia's interaction, but now she looked pained to see Spencer’s mom's affection toward his ex.

Lastly, viewers were once again reminded of the magic that is Spelivia when Spencer gave his ex the wise words to go after what she wants and to fully live her life. The tender moment pretty much was confirmation that Olivia should not give up on her and Spencer reuniting, especially considering she told him weeks ago that she wanted him back and is still waiting for his response.

All American's Spencer gets a blast from his past

There's an argument to be made that no one was suffered more loss on All American than Spencer (Daniel Ezra). Billy’s (Taye Diggs) death this season looks to have put him over the tipping point.

Since the departure of the Baker patriarch, a lot of attention has been paid to how his loved ones have been finding ways to move forward. With the help of family and friends, Olivia (Samantha Logan) found the strength not to turn to her addiction to deal with her emotions, while Jordan (Michael Evans Behlling) realized his new role as the "man" of the Baker clan. However, Spencer has been in a slow downward spiral that no one has been able to stop. In fact, he effectively quit the GAU football team, turned to drinking more than usual and lashed out at those closest to him.

In episode "United in Grief," which aired on Monday, March 27, Spencer was visited by two people from his past that lent a helping hand in getting him back on the right track. First up was Dr. Spears (Eugene Byrd). He was the therapist that Spencer turned to after the trauma of being shot while back in high school.

Dr. Spears' reemergence was not initially a welcomed one. He was called in by Spencer's mother (Karimah Westbrook) after the football player blew up on his little brother Dillon (Jayln Hall) over a glass of spilled orange juice. Despite refusing Dr. Spears' initial offer to talk, Spencer eventually began talking to the therapist after punching a hole through a wooden cabinet in frustration, scaring Dillon in the process.

As Dr. Spears took a walk with Spencer around a local park, listening to him talk about his dad Corey (Chad Coleman), Shawn (Jay Reeves), Billy and even his still-living "adoptive" brother Darnell (Da'Vinchi), it became clear that Spencer was not just grieving the loss of Billy. He was also dealing with real feelings of abandonment that stemmed from Corey walking away from the family when he was younger. With that realization, and Dr. Spears' assurance that people dying was not their way of abandoning Spencer, the star athlete started to let go of all the rage he's been holding onto for weeks.

Speaking of Darnell, he was the other guest star to pop back up on All American. In the final moments of the episode, Spencer is greeted by his loved ones with a surprise gathering at his family home. Olivia rallied everyone to show up, including Darnell, who left LA during his senior year of high school to take care of his mother (Da'Vinchi's exit from the show really had to do with the fact he's now starring in the hit show BMF).

Although the conversation between Darnell and Spencer was brief, he provided insight into how Olivia really has been there for Spencer, which of course put a smile on Mr. James' face. Unfortunately, viewers still don't get to see that smile lead to a reconciliation between the former flames, as Alicia (Pauline Dyer) appeared.

All American fans swoon over Layla's confession to Jordan

As the characters in All American season 5 continue to mourn losing Billy Baker (Taye Diggs), they also find themselves trying to slowly move on with life. Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) in particular spends the episode titled "Make Me Proud," which aired on March 20, searching for clarity about his future at GAU and how to step into his dad's shoes when it comes to his family. To put it frankly, the stress of trying to figure out what to do next weighs heavily on the young Baker. He turns to Layla (Greta Onieogou), who accidentally makes a confession as she offers him some help.

While Layla is getting things ready for Patience's (Chelsea Tavares) music video premiere party, Jordan walks in distraught. Not only is he reeling from Spencer's (Daniel Ezra) self-destructive and selfish behavior, but he's also feeling conflicted about what to do about his future football career and A.D. Barnes (Morris Chestnut). Hoping to gain some perspective from his girlfriend, she offers him some sage words of advice.

Layla encourages Jordan to stop thinking about what A.D. Barnes wants him to do and start contemplating what he wants to do. When Jordan mentions wishing his dad was there to offer his perspective, Layla tells him that when she would have problems, she would often take them to Billy. Though he didn't always know what choices she should make, he listened and believed she already knew what to do.

The record exec then encourages Jordan to listen to his own instincts and that he should do things his way. The words of wisdom put the biggest smile on Jordan's face as he gets an idea. With Layla's blessing to miss Patience's event, he starts heading out the door when his girlfriend casually tells him, "Go. I love you," the first time that she has uttered those words.

That confession of love stops Jordan dead in his tracks. He immediately turns around, swoops Layla in his arms and gives her the biggest kiss. Once he finally pulls his lips off hers, he tells "I love you, too." Jordan leaves the building with the biggest smile on his face.

Did All American's Olivia relapse while grieving Billy?

After the shocking death of Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) and his subsequent funeral, All American fans have been closely monitoring how his family and friends are dealing with the grief of losing him. While Spencer (Daniel Ezra) has tried to power through his emotions by relying on football and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) has tried to be a pillar of strength for his mom and sister, Olivia (Samantha Logan) has been deeply struggling.

In the episode titled "Lost One," which aired on February 20, Olivia wound up in her dad's office at Crenshaw High School where she located Billy’s special bottle of alcohol. For longtime viewers, they found themselves concerned her discovery was a sign she would soon relapse and break her sobriety. Judging by the tweets, that was certainly not something the All American audience desired to see.

Ugh, those last few scenes of the episode got me crying pretty well (and PLEASE don't let Olivia lose her sobriety in her grief 😭). I have been looking for a show to really hit my heart since This Is Us ended and I never expected it to be #AllAmerican. *sobs* ❤️February 21, 2023

Fast forward to the episode "Day Ones" that aired on March 13, and the opening moments are of Olivia in her bedroom, tearfully staring at her dad's bottle. Although she hadn't taken a drink yet, she wants to. Exerting willpower, she wakes up Jordan and Layla (Greta Onieogou) and asks them for help, which they gladly do.

The next morning, after making a few calls, the infamous Vortex, Olivia's mom and sponsor show up, vowing to prevent her from breaking the sobriety she worked so hard for over the last couple of years. Laura (Monet Mazur) and even Coop (Bre-Z) take turns sitting with Olivia to assist her in working through her desire to drink. When it comes time for Asher (Cody Christian) to monitor Olivia and take her to an AA meeting, he unfortunately gets caught up with Jaymee (Miya Horcher) as they prepare for his upcoming baby. In his absence, Spencer volunteers to take his place.

As it turns out, Spencer was the catalyst Olivia needed to discover why she felt so compelled to break her sobriety. Before going to her AA meeting, the two stop at a carnival where they play a few games and get on the Ferris wheel. While up at the top of the ride, Olivia closes her eyes and mentions feeling closer to her father than she ever has since his death.

She then realizes the reason why she's been wanting to drink is she can't deal with the silence and her thoughts. So going forward, Olivia is bringing back her podcast Liv the Truth as a way of therapy for herself and a helping hand for others who can relate.

So, thankfully, it looks like Olivia was able to stay sober despite the grief that she has been dealing with.

For many All American season 5 viewers, they still find themselves in a state of mourning after the surprising death of Billy Baker (Taye Diggs). The loss was completely unexpected and will undoubtedly impact the entire canvas of the show.

In an episode titled "Lost One" that aired on February 20, viewers got to see the beginning stages of the ripple effect of Billy’s passing as his family and friends rallied together to say goodbye. His wife Laura (Monet Mazur) understandably was barely able to hold it together, often snapping at those closest to her. Jordan (Michael Evans Behiling) barely allowed himself time to grieve as he made it his mission to take care of his mom and siste. Then there was Billy’s "adoptive" son, Spencer (Daniel Ezra). As close as Spencer and Billy were, the young football protégé never seemed to settle in his grief and kept running around doing favors for the Baker family. However, judging by the preview of the next episode, Spencer will soon find his feelings bubble up in somewhat of an explosive way.

Someone else who was very important to Billy that was trying to process his death was his only daughter Olivia (Samantha Logan). She went through waves of tears throughout the episode and even caused fans to join her in crying when she shared with Spencer that she was unable to finish her eulogy because her "dad is a lot of things, but most importantly, he was my everything. How am I supposed to put that into words?"

While the majority of the episode was sad and somber, one moment that did bring a smile to Olivia's face, and in turn the viewers, was when she made a surprising discovery about her brother. While sitting seats away from Jordan and Layla (Greta Onieogou) at Jordan's impromptu homegoing celebration at the Billy Baker Football Field, Olivia spotted her brother and best friend holding hands. Given the expression on her face, when she confronts the couple about their secret romance, she will give her blessing and root them on.

We have to say, it's about time Olivia found out the two are dating considering how many awkward moments she's caught Jordan and Layla in this season.

Heading into the All American season 5 episode titled "Time" which aired on Monday, February 13, fans were anticipating seeing many things unfold. For starters, with Olivia’s (Samantha Logan) recent confession that she wants Spencer (Daniel Ezra) back, many viewers thought they’d witness the two love birds finally get back on track after a rocky season 5.

Then there is Spencer’s other complicated relationship with a member of the Baker family, Billy (Taye Diggs). Spencer has not exactly been thrilled that his former high school football coach has been keeping his GAU job offer a secret.

However, these two progressing storylines took a backseat in the new episode as other events took place. Not only was it revealed that Asher (Cody Christian) is expecting a baby and Billy has actually decided to stay a principal and coach at Crenshaw High School, but in a complete shocker to fans, one of the beloved show characters was killed off the series.

So here’s what happened.

After a successful football combine held for the local high school students in the Los Angeles area, Billy and Asher found themselves on a school bus riding with the young players back to Crenshaw High School. As Billy was giving his former player advice on fatherhood, a tire on the bus suddenly blew and the driver was unable to control the vehicle. To make matters worse, this occurred on a winding road.

As Grace (Karimah Westbrook) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) arrived at the scene of the accident, they see the flipped bus, but they also spot Billy, Asher and most of the team. Then Billy notices that one player, Jabari, is nowhere to be found, and the former goes back on the vehicle to find him since emergency personnel has yet to arrive. Unfortunately, by this time, the bus is literally teetering on a cliff.

While viewers don’t see what happens with Billy’s rescue effort, Grace arrives at the Baker Beverly Hills home where everyone else is gathered and informs them that the patriarch of the group is gone. That’s right, after five seasons on the show, Taye Diggs has exited All American as Billy Baker. Talk about an emotional curveball.

Do All American's Olivia and Spencer get back together after her gutsy confession of love?

We won't pretend All American season 5 hasn't been a rocky one for Olivia and Spencer. Fans that have been keeping up with the episodes know the pair went from being the Romeo and Juliet of the show to two people who can't be around each other without things getting awkward. However, even in their uncomfortable post-breakup space, it was clear they still loved each other very much. For many viewers though, that love was starting to look like it wouldn't be enough to reunite them as Spencer moved on with Alicia (Pauline Dyer) and Olivia was trying to explore something with Noah (Tyler Parks).

Then in "Feel It in the Air," which aired on January 30, the episode ended with Oliva telling her mom she still loves Spencer and wants him back. This obviously gave supporters of #Spelivia hope that the two were on the road to reconciliation.

Fast forward to the February 6 episode titled "O.P.P." With a mission of getting her man back, Olivia knew she had to somehow split up Spencer and Alicia. Thankfully for the Baker twin, an opportunity to get closer to her ex presented itself in the form of a charity date auction to raise money for Jamie (Miya Horcher). The guys of the infamous "Vortex" agreed to allow people to bid for the chance to go on a date with them. When it came time for bidding on a date with Spencer, Olivia made a bold move and went toe-to-toe with Alicia in the auction process and outbid her (not exactly the most subtle move on Olivia's part).

While on their date, the exes laughed and talked through Spencer's current tiff with Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) over the GAU coaching job. But Olivia chickened out when it came to telling the football player she loves him. Viewers started to think Olivia would waste all her chances to share her feelings.

By the end of the episode, by coincidence, Spencer and Olivia ran into each other at Billy's home. Taking it as a sign, the younger reporter put her heart on her sleeve and told her ex in a passionate speech that she wants him back. He was left speechless and didn't offer a reply. Not that Olivia gave him much time to respond considering she then quickly left the house.

With the confession of love put out in the atmosphere, does that mean the show couple is back together? Not yet at least. Again, Spencer didn't say he wanted his ex back and he still has a girlfriend. Fans will have to tune in Monday to see what happens next.

All American's Spencer finally discovers Jordan's secret

Although All American season 5 has been widely focused on the post-breakup lives of Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia (Samantha Logan), the blossoming love story of Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) has also garnered its fair share of attention. The chemistry between the new couple is undeniably endearing, yet a bit dramatic, given the fact that they have been hiding their romance from everyone.

If you're counting, Jordan's romantic development is secret number two he's been keeping from Spencer. The young Baker has also been sitting on the secret that his dad Billy (Taye Diggs) is going to become the new head coach of GAU football. For a guy that usually tells Spencer everything, Jordan is keeping him in the dark about some major news.

However, we can understand Jordan's logic. As it pertains to Layla, she is Spencer's ex, so that could make things awkward. Then in terms of the GAU coaching development, Spencer and Billy have always had a close relationship and Spencer literally ended things with Olivia over the college football program, so Jordan keeping his dad's job under wraps greatly impacts Spencer. With all that said, in the episode that aired on January 31, one of these pieces of information came out due to Spencer's detective work. But which one?

It was none other than Jordan's secret romance.

Throughout the episode, Jordan was being a bit cagey with Spencer, which the latter definitely picked up on. For starters, in mid-conversation between the two, Jordan nonchalantly mentioned he decided not to transfer to another school. For him to casually say that considering how much of an impact the original news of him transferring had on Spencer was weird.

Later in the episode, Spencer caught Layla and Jordan in separate lies. Spencer first overheard Jordan on the phone with Billy, but when Spencer asked who was on the other end of the call, Jordan said Layla. When Spencer stumbled upon Layla later that evening at the Baker Beverly Hills home, she mentioned not having spoken to Jordan that day. Given she was cagey too, Spencer was able to put two and two together to see what was going on. Take a look at the interesting exchange between Spencer and Layla below.

In the end, Spencer decided to confront his best friend and teammate about this secret. Interestingly enough, the latter panics thinking Spencer is talking about his dad accepting the college coaching job. However, Spencer went on to say how happy he was for Jordan and Layla, to which the quarterback breathed a sigh of relief.

However, in the show's dramatic fashion, Spencer finds out about Billy's new job from A.D. Barnes (Morris Chestnut) which is not going to bode well for his relationships with Spencer or Billy. Given the trailer for the next episode, things are about to heat up.

All American season 5 fans choose sides in the Coop vs Olivia drama

With All American season 5 finally back with new episodes in 2023, many fans are eagerly waiting to find out answers to some of the season's most pressing questions. Will Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) actually take the head coaching job at GAU? Will the audience find out what's going on with JJ (Hunter Clowdus)? Perhaps most importantly, will Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia (Samantha Logan) finally get back together now that her infamous news story has been published?

As viewers wait to discover what happens with the main plot points mentioned, they also have been watching more minor threads in the season. One of which has been the unyielding tension between Coop (Bre-Z) and Olivia.

For months now, the two have been in a contentious place in their friendship. After Liv and Spencer decided to call it quits earlier in the season, Coop has been #TeamSpencer. This is understandable, considering that Spencer is her very best friend and she only knows Liv through him.

However, what fans are not so understanding of is the fact that Coop has been unnecessarily shady and rude to Olivia. The breakup was actually initiated by Spencer, Spencer and Olivia are at the very least amicable and the college football star has never asked Coop to disrespect his ex. Furthermore, Coop is being hostile to Liv while rooming with her in the Baker Beverly Hills family home. Talk about irony and downright awkwardness.

Coop's behavior seemed to really rile up fans in an episode titled "Feels So Good" that aired on Monday, January 23. While loudly talking to her girlfriend in the Baker home, Coop talks about Spencer taking Alicia (Pauline Dyer) to Billy's birthday roast. Right on time, Olivia walks in the room to hear the shocking news. Coop was not in the least apologetic about making the revelation and Liv was not surprised by the former's big mouth or attitude.

One person who was surprised and a bit annoyed by Coop's snafu was her bestie. When Coop reveals what she had done, Spencer responds with, "What is with you and that damn mouth?" That seems to be a running question these days as it pertains to the former rapper turned legal aid.

"In an epic season finale, dramatic changes are on the horizon for the whole gang. With so many lessons learned from their enormous loss, the road forward is destined to be influenced by the past."

What is All American season 5 about?

Based on what happened in the season 4 finale, there’s a lot of ground to cover in the new episodes. Starting with Spencer, he and Olivia (Samantha Logan) bumped heads repeatedly throughout season 4. In the finale, she was writing a news story that could have dire consequences for the football program at Golden Angeles University and Spencer’s sports career. Given their relationship is a bit fragile, will they be able to withstand such a colossal storm if Olivia goes public with what she knows?

Elsewhere, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) fresh off the breakup with Simone (Geffri Maya), confessed his feelings for Layla. While she also has feelings for him, she pumped the breaks on them exploring anything further for the moment. We’d venture to say their romance will bloom in the forthcoming episodes. Although, given that Layla’s ex-fling is now her boss of sorts, and the two didn’t end on a great note, the path to #Jayla may get complicated.

On a side note, let’s hope that Jordan also is not dumb enough to continue playing with a broken hand in his freshman year of college football. Given his high school track record with injuries, we don’t have the most confidence that he’ll be smart about his new issue going forward.

Also expected to be covered in season 5 are Coop’s (Bre-Z) law career ambitions, Asher’s (Cody Christian) development as a football coach and Billy's (Taye Diggs) progress as a high school principal.

So far, All American season 5 has been one with lots of change for Spencer (Daniel Ezra). He and Olivia (Samantha Logan) called it quits, his mom moved away, JJ (Hunter Clowdus) severed his friendship with the group and his head football coach just resigned in the wake of a scandal. Well, staying on trend for Spencer these days, he was hit with one more change in the fall finale. Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) chose to end his football partnership with Spencer.

The decision came as Olivia's story continued to make rounds in the public domain, leaving the GAU football team in shambles. Spencer and Jordan's teammates are understandably upset by the scandal and half of them decide to quit. In Spencer James fashion, he takes on the task of saving the program from falling into complete shambles, recruiting Jordan to help, which Jordan agrees to do initially.

However, as the episode continues, Jordan starts fielding offers from other schools wanting him to play quarterback for them, including an offer from Asher (Cody Christian) to play at Coastal. The prospect of playing somewhere without Spencer isn't something that Jordan considers until he realizes he has an opportunity to step out of his bestie's shadow on the field and find a coach that, as he puts it, is his guy. Someone that truly believes in the talent of Jordan without seeing it through a prism of Spencer.

As Jordan mulls over his decision and gets a supportive nudge from Layla (Greta Onieogou), it becomes clear that he and Spencer's athletic journey may no longer be tied to one another. The young Baker even dodges his friend's request to help him lobby A.D. Barnes (Morris Chestnut) to make their assistant coach their new head coach.

Things come to a head for Spencer and Jordan at the beach house over a bowl of gumbo. Once the two finish eating, the former takes the latter aside to find out why Jordan seems to be acting weirdly. Jordan is upfront and tells his friend what's been going on and his plans to leave GAU football, which takes Spencer by complete surprise. Spencer is convinced he ca change Jordan's mind before anything becomes final. Unfortunately, Spencer realizes the next day that Jordan's mind is already made up, as he sees Jordan returning his GAU jersey.

Even though Spencer understands the need of his partner in football to move on, their now differing paths still hurts. The two guys embrace in one of the most beautiful hugs of the season as the episode comes to a close.

If there's a bright spot for Spencer going forward, it's that his new head coach at GAU may turn out to be his old head high school coach, Billy Baker (Taye Diggs). Billy was offered the job and based on the preview for the new episodes airing in 2023, it looks as if he may take it.

Since the beginning of All American season 5, fans have noticed that the once loveable party boy JJ (Hunter Clowdus) has not quite been himself.

While he's always been one to search out a good time, since becoming a freshman at Coastal California College, his appetite for alcohol and late nights has seemed to grow. So much so that his collegiate football dreams are in danger of going up in smoke. His stereotypical frat boy behavior has now even taken a toll on his friendships, which ultimately led to an epic blowup between him and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling).

In an episode titled "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" that aired on November 21, Asher (Cody Christian) makes a comment to Jordan about JJ's continual practice of throwing parties at their beach house. It's a routine that is wearing thin with Asher, but that Jordan has so far shrugged off.

However, when talking to Layla (Greta Onieogou) about his friend's inability to take anything seriously these days, she points out to Jordan that perhaps JJ is acting out because he misses the unity the Vortex friend group once had while in high school. She even encourages him to be there to support him.

Fast forward to the "calm Tuesday" fraternity event that JJ throws at the beach house. What JJ marketed as calm is anything but, as guests have to roll dice to determine the number of shots they need to take, the music is shaking the walls and there is a mechanical bull.

Feeling disgusted by the turn of events and realizing JJ is out of control, Jordan attempts to tell his friend to cut down on the drinking and end the party. But JJ tells his friend he's boring and attributes that to Layla. JJ elaborates on his point saying that Jordan is rather lame when in a relationship, first with Simone (Geffri Maya) and now with Layla.

Then things take a very dark turn when JJ calls out Layla's history among the friends. He notes that first she was with Asher, then it was Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and now it's Jordan. JJ then supposes he'll just wait his turn, which enrages Jordan. The latter punches JJ in the face and the two then roll around the living room floor fighting each other until JJ's fraternity brother pulls Jordan away.

When Jordan recaps what happened with Asher, JJ catches the two talking and makes the declarative statement that he's moving out. He accuses his friends of being "grandpas" since they’ve gotten to college and claims he's going to go live with people that are more his age — his fraternity brothers. The last words JJ utters is he hopes they can find someone to cover his portion of the rent.

We aren't sure what's really going on with JJ, but we hope things resolve themselves soon. There is already enough tension in the Vortex group because of Olivia's (Samantha Logan) recent news story.

All American fans demand better for Olivia in season 5

With All Amercian season 5 in full swing, viewers have been glued to their screens trying to make sense of all the shakeups. For example, many fans have been trying to wrap their minds around the romantic entanglement between Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Layla (Greta Onieogou). Although in a number of ways the pair falling in love makes sense, the fact the two have been slow to define what they are is a bit more baffling.

However, it's nowhere near as baffling to fans as the current story arc of Olivia (Samantha Logan).

First, there was the heartwrenching breakup of "Spelivia." Since the beginning of the series, Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia have shared an undeniable chemistry that is unparalleled among the Vortex friend group. Even when the two were involved with other people, fans just knew they would eventually wind up together. When they overcame obstacles and became a power couple, everything in the All American universe felt right. So as season 5 kicked off and Spencer selflessly broke up with Olivia for her future career, fans were infuriated.

Then, despite Spencer being the one to ultimately call things off, Olivia was portrayed as some kind of heartbreaker. Coop (Bre-Z), for example, took constant shots at Olivia and tried her best to make her feel guilty for the way things ended with the couple (mind you, Coop was relentlessly rude to Olivia other times as well). Coop even "accidentally" informed Olivia and the entire Vortex that Spencer was dating in the aftermath of the breakup.

That brings us to another reason fans are rallying behind Olivia this season. They feel bad that while Spencer is attempting to move on with his life romantically, she's stuck having to bear witness to some of his escapades. She hasn't been on one date, entertained flirting with one guy and on several occasions, has looked downright sad. Viewers want to see her get back in the dating game (although they'd rather see her and Spencer back together).

Finally, in an episode titled "I Need Love" that aired on November 14, Olivia was placed in an even more complex situation professionally. Her whole plotline this season has boiled down to her ambitiously writing a news story exposing the corrupt nature of Spencer and Jordan's head football coach. Well in the episode, he literally resigned from the university, which now makes it a bit difficult to take him down.

Additionally, as previewed in a future episode, if Olivia still proceeds with publishing the article, there's a greater chance that Spencer, Jordan and the entire team will face more of the fallout with the top man presently gone. Now more than ever, Olivia's going to be forced to choose between her career ambitions and those she loves. An unenviable position for anyone, especially for someone in the early years of college.

Spencer and Olivia leave All American fans heartbroken after Grace’s wedding

Wedding bells were ringing on the All American season 5 episode, "Turn Down for What," as viewers saw Spencer’s mom Grace (Karimah Westbrook) finally tied the knot with D'Angelo (Lamon Archey). While their nuptials were certainly the main storyline of the episode, it was the underlying tension between Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia (Samantha Logan) that captivated the audience.

Despite the couple calling it quits in the season 5 premiere, fans have been holding out hope that Spencer and Olivia would realize that their love was just too strong to ignore for a news story and football. Considering the obstacles the two had to overcome in the past to be together, including a gunshot wound and addiction, it just made sense that it wouldn’t take long before the pair reunited.

Fans were given a glimmer of hope on the night before the wedding. After a classic "vortex-friends" game night that ended in disaster when Coop (Bre-Z) annoyingly spilled the beans about Spencer going on a date, he goes to speak with Olivia at the Baker house.

As the two are cleaning up she says, "I guess I didn’t realize you were going to move on quite so fast." He then stresses that he isn’t with anyone seriously. And just like that, the two get hot and heavy in the Baker kitchen. It seemed like the couple was back in action.

Unfortunately, the "Spelivia" train came to a screeching halt at the wedding reception. When Spencer goes up to Olivia wanting to talk about what happened between them the night before, Olivia pretty much shuts down the conversation. In fact, she crushes him and the All American audience when she states:

"I think we both know what that was — closure."

All American fans weigh in on Jordan and Layla's future

It seems like it wasn’t that long ago when All American’s Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) only had eyes for Simone (Geffri Maya) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) was trying not to be upset that the boy she was in love with moved on with her best friend. Back then, the possibility of a potential romance flaring up between Jordan and Layla wasn’t on most viewers’ radar; they were rarely even in scenes together one-on-one. However, somewhere in the second half of season 4, they started gravitating toward each other and fans started seeing the real potential for what has been dubbed #Jordayla.

Two episodes into All American season 5, the chemistry between the pair is downright undeniable. While Jordan is ready to tell the world he loves her and have her as his girlfriend, Layla has been dragging her feet, even being resistant, on a possible relationship. So in the meantime, viewers have been watching the characters exchange longing looks, get caught up in flirtatious banter and Layla, in particular, fight what many people think is inevitable.

Referring to what occurred in All American season 5 episode 2, "Don't Sweat the Technique," the two kicked things off by playfully going back and forth on whether or not Jordan was funny. While he was adamant that he has comedic chops, Layla countered that being funny is not his forte. So throughout the episode, Jordan was on a mission to prove her wrong. Although the jokes he sent her via text fell flat (very flat), it was his move with business cards that seemed to win Layla over.

Some backstory: prior to the "is Jordan funny" discussion, Layla does a bit of venting about her career woes and having a music label that doesn’t have a PR team, social media influence or even "business cards with my name on it."

In the final moments of the episode, Layla walks into her office and spots a mysterious gift. Picking up the box, she opens it to see business cards that have "my name on it" printed on them. Layla couldn’t help but laugh and admit to herself that this was funny. The All American audience also appears to have smiled from ear to ear, and even swoon a little bit, about how "cute" Jordan’s joke was.

With Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia (Samantha Logan) on the outs, perhaps Jordan and Layla will be All American's new It couple.

All American’s Spencer and Olivia stir up strong feelings among fans after season 5 premiere

In the series' triumphant return to television, All American season 5 premiered and right away, the romantic drama kicked off.

For starters, there was the would-be love triangle that involved Jordan (Michael Evans Behling), Layla (Greta Onieogou) and Simone (Geffri Maya). Although Jordan and Layla clearly have feelings for each other, they still are taking things slow and aren’t officially together, while Jordan and Simone have been broken up for a little bit but had some lingering tensions that wouldn’t be resolved until the season premiere of All American: Homecoming. The drama between those three was definitely tense, and yet fans couldn’t stop focusing on what was going on with All American’s Spencer (Daniel Ezra) and Olivia (Samantha Logan).

By the end of last season, Spencer and Olivia’s relationship was quite fragile. Not only was the pair trying to find time in their busy schedules to see each other, but their future career goals kept placing them on a collision course that would eventually cause one of them to sacrifice something they love for the person they love. Coming into the season 5 premiere, viewers weren’t sure what would need to happen for these two to get back on track.

Make no mistake, the audience certainly wanted #Spelivia to work things out given the lengths the two went through to be together in the first place. Not only did they betray friendships with Asher (Cody Christian) and Layla, but Spencer held Olivia’s hand through her battles with addiction and she held his through the death of his father. Plus, as Coop (Bre-Z) pointed out, Spencer literally took a bullet for the woman that he loves.

With all of that said, did the two manage to successfully hit the restart button on their relationship?

No.

As Spencer hosted a party at the beach house, he and Olivia barely talked. However, once the party ended the two discussed where their relationship was heading. While Olivia said she wanted to be with him, Spencer made the choice to end things.

In a beautifully sad moment, he started talking about seeing her on campus interacting with her journalism friends and discussing the developments in her young profession. He realized in those times her light shined brightest and she seemed to be truly happy. He then referred to that light dimming just a bit when she’s in his presence and that’s not what he wants for her. Although Olivia began crying and wanted to protest against what Spencer was stating, she soon realized he had a point.

The premiere didn’t end without a glimmer of hope for fans of the relationship. Olivia made the very definitive statement to Spencer "this is not where our story ends." Sounds like they may find their way back to each other at some point. In the meantime, viewers should expect some awkward run-ins between the two at group functions and for some new romantic pairings on the horizon.

All American: Homecoming season 1 is finally on Netflix

All American: Homecoming is finally available to stream on Netflix and not HBO Max, as was previously announced.

Although HBO Max's release schedule for June 2022 listed the first season of All American: Homecoming for June 22, the show never arrived. Although we're a few weeks after that original date, the first season of the All-American spin-off is now available to stream over on Netflix. It originally premiered on The CW earlier this year.

At the time of writing, an official explanation for the switch-up hasn't been given, but the change does make some logical sense given Netflix was already the streaming home of the main series.

It's likely that Netflix wanted the spin-off show to capitalize on the main show's success by picking up the spin-off. All American season 4 appeared on the streaming service back in May this year and the show has featured in Netflix US TV top 10 lists ever since.

Unfortunately, All American: Homecoming is not available to stream in the UK, and we still haven't had a release date for the series just yet. However, UK viewers can find the first four seasons of All American available to watch on-demand on ITV Hub.

Like the main series, All American: Homecoming is a CW sports drama. Homecoming follows Simone Hicks (played by Geffri Maya) from the main show, who has left her boyfriend Jordan behind in LA to head to Bringston University, a historically black college in Atlanta, Georgia. At Bringston, Simone dreams of fighting her way back onto the court as a pro tennis player.

The first season also follows Damon Sims (Peyton Alex Smith), a nationally ranked high school baseball prodigy from Chicago who gave up his shot at the MLB draft to enroll at Bringston and to save their college baseball program.

The series also stars Kelly Jenrette, Cory Hardrict, Sylvester Powell, Camille Hyde, Netta Walker, Mitchell Edwards and Rhoyle Ivy King, among others.

All American: Homecoming season 2 will continue Simone and Damon's story later this year when it premieres on The CW on Monday, October 10 at 9 pm ET, where it will follow episodes of All American season 5.

'Batwoman' among 12 series renewed early by The CW

The CW has announced early renewals for 12 current series for next season. Among the names in this list is Batwoman. The show recently replaced the series lead actress, Ruby Rose, with newcomer Jacivia Lewis in the role of Ryan Wilder, the series’s new Batwoman. The new season of Batwoman is only three episodes in, so the news of the renewal is a welcomed surprise. We’re happy to get more Jacivia Lewis, who has proven herself to be as apt a replacement as her character Ryan Wilder is to the missing Kate Kane. The CW also announced additional episodes for its massive hit Walker and the upcoming Superman & Lois.

Chairman and CEO of The CW Network provided the following statement original supplied to the Decider,

“Though we’re just a few weeks into the new season, we wanted to get a strategic head start on next season with these early renewals, which allows our production teams to start laying out story arcs and hiring staff, and at the same time, continues to provide us with a strong, stable schedule to build on for next season. As The CW’s 2020-2021 season kicks into high gear, we are thrilled creatively with the direction of our first new shows out of the gate, Walker and Superman & Lois, that we wanted to order the additional episodes to complete their first seasons, and we are particularly pleased with the huge success of the launch of Walker, which debuted as our most watched series premiere in 5 years.”

The CW series range is rather vast and includes several that won’t premiere their new seasons until later this year. The series being ordered for the 2021-2022 season include: Walker (Season 2); All American (Season 4); Batwoman (Season 3); Charmed (Season 4); DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 7); Dynasty (Season 5); The Flash (Season 8); In the Dark (Season 4); Legacies (Season 4); Nancy Drew (Season 3); Riverdale (Season 6); and Roswell, New Mexico (Season 4).

As mentioned earlier, the network is ordering five additional episodes of Walker, bringing its total episode count for the 2020-2021 season to 18; and two additional episodes of the February 23 debuting Superman & Lois, bringing its 2020-2021 total to 15.

Unfortunately, some fan favorites were not renewed. Both Supergirl and Black Lightning are entering their final seasons on The CW. The season premiere for Supergirl‘s Season 6 currently has no date. In contrast, Black Lightning premieres on February 8 and is broadcasting a back-door pilot in the upcoming season as a potential spinoff for Painkiller. Fans of Stargirl may notice the series was not on the list, but it was renewed for a second season before this announcement.

In addition to the series renewals, several other projects are also in various development stages at The CW, including the Black Lightning spinoff Painkiller, an All American spinoff, The Lost Boys reboot, superhero series Naomi and Wonder Girl. There is also the adult take on The Powerpuff Girls no one asked for, but we’re still getting.
