Typically we're not crazy about the end of summer arriving, but one silver lining to the change in seasons is the launch of the fall TV slate, which always brings a bevy of new shows to the networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and various cable channels) and streaming services (Apple TV Plus, Hulu, Netflix, Peacock and more).

Fall 2025 is looking to have a solid lineup for viewers, both with a range of new shows and returning favorites. To help you identify some of the biggest comedies, dramas and reality TV series that you should be keeping an eye on, my colleagues Sarabeth Pollock, Terrell Smith and I are offering our most anticipated fall TV shows and why they're must watch.

The Paper (Peacock)

The Office is, without a doubt, one of my favorite shows of all time. If you were to ask my friends, they’d probably tell you I can even quote lines from specific episodes of the series. It’s because of my love for The Office that I’m optimistic about the sequel show, The Paper.

The new mockumentary follows the employees of a dying newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, as they try to deal with job uncertainty along with the ebbs and flows of their personal lives. The concept of The Paper and The Office are similar, I just want the comedy of both shows to be similar as well. — Terrell Smith

The Paper premieres Thursday, September 4, exclusively on Peacock.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 (AMC)

After spending the first two seasons in France, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 is moving to Spain. Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) are still trying to get home and it looks like there could be a path, but it means venturing into Spain. They’ll face new challenges and new threats in addition to the hordes of undead wandering around.

Daryl Dixon will spend the next two seasons in Spain before the series bows at the end of season 4, so fans will be watching to see how Carol and Daryl’s arrival sets up the beginning of the end of their journey. — Sarabeth Pollock

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 premieres Sunday, September 7, on AMC and AMC Plus.

Only Murders in the Building season 5 (Hulu)

It's just not fall without an Only Murders in the Building mystery to solve. Since 2021, the series has probably been my favorite show on TV thanks to their clever mysteries, fantastic writing and directing, great supporting casts, but most importantly the wonderful and hilarious chemistry between stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short.

The show has yet to let me down, which is why I'm stoked to watch Only Murders in the Building season 5, which will attempt to solve who killed the Arconia's doorman Lester, with a host of suspects and new guest stars to choose from.

Only Murders in the Building season 5 premieres Tuesday, September 9, exclusively on Hulu.

High Potential season 2 (ABC)

I started High Potential when it premiered on ABC last fall and loved Kaitlin Olson’s performance as a struggling single mom who has an incredibly high IQ and becomes a consultant for the LAPD, but I got behind on the show and have had to play catch up. But I’m determined to stay up to date with High Potential season 2, as it is probably my most anticipated network TV show this fall.

I'm excited to see Olson’s Morgan Gillroy back on the case, using her unorthodox investigating skills, bantering with her partner (Daniel Sunjata) and trying to unravel what happened to her husband after he mysteriously disappeared years earlier. — Michael Balderston

High Potential season 2 premieres on Tuesday, September 16, on ABC; streams on-demand the following day on Hulu.

Gen V season 2 (Prime Video)

It’s been nearly two years since Gen V premiered, and as a fan of nearly all things The Boys, you can imagine my excitement to see the spinoff series pick up where it left off with Gen V season 2.

With Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Emma (Lizze Broadway) and the other actual “heroes” now portrayed as enemies of Homelander (Antony Starr) and Vought, I’m intrigued to see how the young supes get out of their predicament. On a sadder note, based on the trailer, I get the sense that the real-life death of show star Chance Perdomo, who portrayed Andre, will be handled with care and respect in the new episodes. — Terrell Smith

Gen V season 2 premieres Wednesday, September 17, exclusively on Prime Video.

Love Island Games season 2 (Peacock)

Love Island Games season 2 finally arrives this fall, nearly two years since the first season of the series premiered. Having become a major fan of Love Island USA and just wrapped Love Island USA season 7, the biggest season of the franchise to date, I’m ready to see which past islanders will be competing in the next round of Love Island Games and what romantic connections will be formed.

I’m hoping to see Love Island USA season 5’s Leo and season 7’s Coco, Andreina Santos-Marte and Jeremiah all back on screen in Love Island Games season 2. — Terrell Smith

Reasonable Doubt season 3 (Hulu)

During its tenure on air, Reasonable Doubt has provided a nice fix for my craving for high-octane legal dramas. With Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder and Your Honor, all resting in the annals of TV history, Reasonable Doubt has stepped into the void and is doing an exceptional job showcasing the journey of high-profile attorney Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi).

Since Reasonable Doubt season 2 ended on a cliffhanger in regards to Jax and Lewis (McKinley Freeman) being sued over the death of Lewis’ baby with Toni (Tristan Cunningham), I can't wait to see if this becomes the case Jax is dealt a loss. — Terrell Smith

Reasonable Doubt season 3 premieres Thursday, September 18, exclusively on Hulu.

Chad Powers (Hulu)

Ted Lasso was born from a NBC Sports commercial for the Premier League; is our next great sports comedy going to have similar origins?

Chad Powers stars Glen Powell as a disgraced college quarterback who attempts to get a second chance at glory by donning some makeup and a wig and going by the alias Chad Powers to be a walk-on at a struggling program. The series was inspired by a prank video that featured two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning attend tryouts at Penn State.

Ted Lasso may be lofty expectations, but I’ve been a big fan of just about everything Powell has done in recent years, so count me in on this one. — Michael Balderston

Chad Powers premieres Tuesday, September 30, exclusively on Hulu.

Task (HBO)

Remember how Mare of Easttown, the Kate Winslet-led crime drama, had us all hooked back in 2021? Well, Brad Ingelsby, the creator of Mare of Easttown, is back with another series set in the Philadelphia suburbs.

In Task, Mark Ruffalo stars as an FBI agent who leads a task force created to put an end to a violent string of robberies in the area. There won’t be any mystery for audiences as to who is doing the crimes, as Tom Pelphrey (Outer Range) has been tapped for that role, but the hunt by Ruffalo and his team to take him down has the potential to be pretty compelling TV. And the pedigree of HBO and Ingelsby's last series bodes well. — Michael Balderston

There is no confirmed premiere date for Task at this time, though HBO has confirmed that the series will premiere in September, streaming simultaneously on HBO Max.

Abbott Elementary season 5 (ABC)

Over the past four seasons, Abbott Elementary has absolutely been the best comedy series in my opinion, so, of course, I’m excited for Abbott Elementary season 5. I can’t wait to see Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) take their relationship to the next level, Ava (Janelle James) get reacquainted with her job as principal and what other obstacles the Abbott crew faces as they just try to teach in this modern age. Also, who doesn’t want to see more quirky moments from Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis)? — Terrell Smith

Abbott Elementary season 5 premieres Wednesday, October 1, on ABC; streams on-demand on Hulu the following day.

Nobody Wants This season 2 (Netflix)

If Kristen Bell is in it, I’m usually invested in the project (sans Frozen, which I’ve embarrassingly enough haven’t seen). So when Nobody Wants This debuted last year on Netflix, I quickly powered through the episodes and loved the funny take on opposites attracting and falling in love. She was brilliant as Joanne, an agnostic dating podcaster, falling for Adam Brody’s Noah, a modern rabbi.

In season one, the duo faced a few obstacles as a couple, so I’m left wondering what additional obstacles they may face in season 2, especially given Noah’s promotion in the temple. — Terrell Smith

Nobody Wants This season 2 premieres Thursday, October 23, exclusively on Netflix.

Talamasca: The Secret Order (AMC)

The Anne Rice Immortal Universe is expanding with a brand new spinoff, Talamasca: The Secret Order. Based on the secretive society of observers who keep watch over the world’s supernatural residents, the series will be a spy thriller that sees the agents furtively keeping tabs on witches, vampires and other supernatural beings all over the world.

What we love about this series is that it has the potential for lots of crossovers between Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, so that means we get to see more from our favorite immortals. — Sarabeth Pollock

Talamasca: The Secret Order premieres Sunday, October 26, on AMC and AMC Plus.

Down Cemetery Road (Apple TV Plus)

Slow Horses remains one of my favorite shows on TV, and I’m excited about Slow Horses season 5. However, I’m just a bit more intrigued by the potential of Down Cemetery Road, a new Apple TV Plus series that is based on a book series by Slow Horses author Mick Herron.

Emma Thompson stars as a private investigator who helps Ruth Wilson in the search for a missing young girl, which quickly spirals into a wide-ranging conspiracy.

Premiering right after Slow Horses ends, it could be the perfect complimentary series and another exciting thriller to stream on Apple TV Plus. — Michael Balderston

Down Cemetery Road premieres Wednesday, October 29, exclusively on Apple TV Plus.

The American Revolution (PBS)

2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, so there are going to be plenty of celebrations revolved around that, including probably more than a few TV specials. It’s a little early, but one of those is a PBS documentary series from Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David P. Schmidt, The American Revolution.

Burns has made a name for himself with his in-depth documentaries, including previous ones about the Civil and Vietnam wars. We all know the basics about the American Revolution, but expect for Burns and his co-creators to dive into things that we may never have known about but should not be forgotten. — Michael Balderston

The American Revolution premieres Sunday, November 16, on PBS.

Stranger Things season 5 (Netflix)

At long last, the final season of Stranger Things is here. It’s been more than three years since Stranger Things season 4 set up the end game in the battle between our Hawkins heroes and the Upside Down, so expectations are high for the Duffer Brothers and company to close out the series.

Netflix is making sure that the series is at least getting an epic rollout, with Stranger Things season 5’s eight episodes broken into three parts. The first four premiere in time for Thanksgiving, the next three as a Christmas Day treat, and the Stranger Things finale dropping on New Year’s Eve.

I honestly am having a hard time remembering a series that has had this much anticipation around its finale since Game of Thrones. Here’s hoping they stick the landing better. — Michael Balderston

All Her Fault (Peacock)

When Marissa (Sarah Snook) sends her son on his first playdate, the last thing she thinks is that she’ll never see him again, but when it’s time to pick him up, the woman who answers the door isn’t the same mother she dropped him off with, and what’s more is that the woman has no idea who her son is. So begins All Her Fault, a thriller that portrays a desperate woman living through a parent’s worst nightmare. — Sarabeth Pollock

All’s Fair (Hulu)

When Kim Kardashian dazzled critics with her turn as a devious attorney in American Horror Story: Delicate, Ryan Murphy quickly recruited her for another series he was dreaming up. All’s Fair is the story of a powerful Los Angeles law firm run by women. Kardashian plays the firm’s divorce lawyer who works with her team to get the best deal for her clients.

I'm excited to see this powerhouse cast that includes Kardashian, Glenn Close and Sarah Paulson. — Sarabeth Pollock

Halloween Baking Championship season 11 (Food Network)

Spooky season is on the way and there’s nothing like Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship to get you in the mood to bake up some terrifyingly tasty treats. The series, now in its 11th season, features bakers who let their imaginations run wild as they create some of the most extraordinary confectionary creations ever seen.

Each season has featured special guest stars and fun themes so we’re eager to see what this season has to offer. (If they make a life-size M3GAN doll made of cake we’re out of here! — Sarabeth Pollock

Halloween Baking Championship season 11 premieres this fall on Food Network.

Holiday Touchdown: A Bill’s Love Story (Hallmark Channel)

Hallmark Channel partnered with the NFL in 2024, leading to their crossover film, Holiday Touchdown: A Chief’s Love Story, which premiered during Countdown to Christmas 2024. This season, Hallmark is heading to Buffalo to bring their brand of holiday magic to the Bills Mafia. Holland Roden, Matthew Daddario and Tony Danza star in what’s sure to be a holiday classic for years to come, especially if you’re a Bills fan. The movie will arrive during the 2025 Countdown to Christmas celebration. — Sarabeth Pollock

Holiday Touchdown: A Bill’s Love Story premieres this fall on Hallmark Channel and streams the next day on Hallmark Plus.

Next Level Baker (Fox)

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is taking baking to new heights with Next Level Baker. After the success of Next Level Chef, a cooking competition that features three teams competing on three different levels of a moving set, it makes sense that Ramsay would expand the franchise and add baking.

With cold weather right around the corner, nothing beats a good baking show to help us prepare for the holidays and we’re excited to see how Ramsay puts his unique stamp on the genre. — Sarabeth Pollock

Next Level Baker premieres this fall on Fox.

Ride with Norman Reedus isn't just a travel show. Reedus, an OG member of The Walking Dead, brings his famous friends along for bike rides in some of the most scenic places in the world in Ride with Norman Reedus season 7, which will air in tandem with The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3.

In previous seasons, Reedus was joined by his friends from the TWD Universe, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Andrew Lincoln, Melissa McBride and Steven Yeun. He was also joined by other famous friends like Keanu Reeves, Peter Fonda, Dave Chappelle, Josh Brolin and Dylan McDermott.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, AMC announced that Ride was coming back for a seventh season and there's an exciting new mix of guests joining Reedus on his adventures, including several TWD alum.

The summer season is upon us. While the summer blockbuster movie season gets much of the hype, TV doesn't take the summer off, as there are plenty of enticing and exciting TV shows (new and returning) for people to watch as they try to beat the heat. We here at What to Watch certainly has a number of shows that we can't wait to dive into.

Along with my What to Watch colleagues Sarabeth Pollock and Terrell Smith, we have put together a list of 17 summer TV shows that we're most excited to tune in for and/or binge this summer ranging across streaming services and cable channels. All shows are premiering from Memorial Day weekend through August (even though those later shows will likely bleed a little bit into the fall TV season).

No need to keep you waiting, let's dive into the summer TV shows that we are most excited to watch this year.

Rick and Morty season 8 (May 25, Adult Swim)

The first summer TV show to premiere is none other than the latest adventures of Rick and Morty. The mad scientist, his grandson and the rest of the Smith family will once again traverse the galaxy and multiverse for our entertainment.

Rick and Morty season 7 proved that the show was capable of still being both hilarious and thought provoking despite the exit of Justin Roiland, so the expectations for Rick and Morty season 8 are sky high for the fan-favorite animated series. — Michael Balderston

And Just Like That season 3 (May 29, Max)

I never watched Sex and the City while it was airing, but I was definitely familiar with the story of four friends living fabulous lives in New York City. It was a cultural touchstone for a generation of viewers who dreamed of shoes and Cosmos and living in a luxurious apartment on a writer’s salary.

All it took for me was a week-long binge and I was hooked on the original series, so it’s not surprising that I wanted to see what happened with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristen Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) at a different point in their lives in And Just Like That.

In And Just Like That season 3, fans will finally learn whether Carrie and Aidan (John Corbett) are going to stick to their long distance relationship, while Charlotte continues to navigate life with her teens and Miranda figures out what makes her happy. I’m ready to escape to New York this summer! — Sarabeth Pollock

Dept. Q (May 29, Netflix)

At least as of publication, I’m not sure whether or not we’re getting Slow Horses season 5 this summer (Apple TV Plus is expected to release it before the end of the year, but an exact premiere date has not been set). Thankfully, Netflix will have an enticing new series to sate my wisecracking law enforcement officer quota, as Matthew Goode stars as a Scottish detective put in charge of a new division tasked with solving Edinburgh’s toughest cold cases in Dept. Q.

Adding to the intrigue, the series is directed by the creator/director of The Queen’s Gambit, Scott Frank. Say hello to one of my Netflix binges of the summer. — Michael Balderston

Love Island USA season 7 (June 3, Peacock)

After Love Island USA season 6 left quite the impression on viewers (me included) as arguably the best in the history of the franchise, how could I not be excited for Love Island USA season 7. This summer guilty pleasure is fun to watch as unsuspecting men and women in their 20s flock to Fiji in search of love (and the monetary prize). Now ordinarily, I question all reality TV dating shows in terms of whether real romance can be found. However, Love Island USA seemingly has a pretty solid track record. Heck, the PPG couples from Love Island USA season 6 are still together if social media is to be believed.

With all that being said, season 7 has some big shoes to fill. While Ariana Madix is returning to hosting duties, a whole new crop of Islanders will be front and center, and they have the hard task of entertaining fans like their season 6 predecessors. —Terrell Smith

Stick (June 4, Apple TV Plus)

Does Apple TV Plus have another Ted Lasso on its hands? Too soon to tell, but Stick has a few things going for it that the comparison could prove apt.

Owen Wilson stars in the sports comedy as a washed up golf pro who discovers a young phenom and attempts to help develop his game to become a star. While the supporting cast of actors is strong (Judy Greer, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño), the show also features cameos from some of the top golfers in the game today, as well as legendary broadcaster Jim Nantz.

I’m a golf fan, so I’m definitely interested, but Stick could have some appeal to non-golfers as well. — Michael Balderston

Ginny & Georgia season 3 (June 5, Netflix)

Ginny & Georgia season 2 ended on quite the interesting note, with Georgia (Brianne Howey) being hauled away from her marriage reception in handcuffs. In Ginny & Georgia season 3, she’s set to face off in court for the murder of Cynthia’s (Sabrina Grdevich) husband. While Georgia is in fact guilty of a mercy killing, I have a sneak suspicion she’ll once again be saved from prison. However, I just don’t know how that comes about, so I’ll be watching.

It should also prove interesting to see how Ginny (Antonia Gentry) deals with a murderous scarlett letter on her mother’s chest. The teen already had some coming-of-age issues, so trying to stand beside her mother during a criminal case of this magnitude could push her to a whole new level of stress. — Terrell Smith

The Real Housewives of Miami season 7 (June 11, Peacock)

Since The Real Housewives of Miami was resuscitated on Peacock before returning to Bravo, I’ve argued with friends that the reality TV show is arguably the second-best Housewives series on the air, behind The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. The ladies in South Beach really know how to bring the drama in a way that feels less contrived and slightly less toxic. Don’t get me wrong, the arguments among the group can be completely ridiculous at times, but that’s part of what makes the show so entertaining.

The Real Housewives of Miami season 7 could prove to be the best yet, as it appears some alliances are shifting, some romances are ending and the former girlfriend of Nicole’s fiancé Anthony has joined the cast. — Terrell Smith

The Gilded Age season 3 (June 22, HBO)

A friend’s mother recommended The Gilded Age, so I watched it and was immediately captivated. I love history, and the HBO show is like an American history book come to life — with a side of Real Housewives thanks to its high fashion and even higher drama.

The Gilded Age season 3 continues the story of the socialites living the high life in the New York City of yore. After the fallout from the Opera War, the influential families continue vying for power and influence in an ever-changing world.

Though it’s historical fiction, The Gilded Age reminds us that people in that era weren’t so different from us. They’re all trying to figure out where they fit in an ever-changing world. — Sarabeth Pollock

Ironheart (June 24, Disney Plus)

The Ironheart trailer may not be getting a lot of love over on YouTube (for reasons I won't comment on), but it’s a series on my radar this summer. Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams was thrilling to watchin her Marvel debut, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She’s the legacy of Tony Stark’s Iron Man, broaching hero status from a completely different perspective for a variety of reasons, which can add a fresh take in the MCU.

Also adding to my excitement is Anthony Ramos starring in the series as The Hood. Ramos has grown to be a bonafide star in Hollywood, having appeared in In the Heights, Hamilton and She’s Gotta Have It. So my interest is piqued in how Ramos will portray the MCU villain. — Terrell Smith

The Bear season 4 (June 25, FX on Hulu)

By the time that The Bear season 4 premieres on Hulu it will have been a year since The Bear season 3, but somehow it’s felt longer as fans of the series have patiently been waiting to find out what the review for the restaurant says and how the personal and work relationships between our favorite group of chefs turn out.

The Bear dances on the line between comedy (I definitely feel there are some genuinely funny moments, most notably from the Fak family) and drama, but one thing remains true that this is one of the best shows on TV and is a must-watch whenever new episodes are available. — Michael Balderston

Smoke (June 27, Apple TV Plus)

As we’ve highlighted a few times on this list already, crime drama fans are going to have some good options to watch this summer. Another example is the new Apple TV Plus series Smoke, which stars Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett as two investigators following in the footsteps of a pair of serial arsonists.

Best-selling author of Shutter Island, Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone, Dennis Lehane created Smoke, so at the minimum I have high hopes for the show’s writing. But Egerton has also quietly churned out consistently enjoyable projects, like Carry-On, Tetris and Black Bird. Can Smoke keep things going? — Michael Balderston

Squid Game season 3 (June 27, Netflix)

Squid Game season 3 will serve as the series’ last, so I’ll be glued to my screen, watching every episode, dubbed and all (don’t judge me for not soldiering through subtitles). I just have to know if Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) has what it takes to dismantle the deadly game.

In Squid Game season 2, the series ended with Seong pinned down and his team of rebels seemingly on their way to meet a deadly end. However, with a whole new rollout of episodes on the way, I have to believe they may find a way to survive. Plus, Seong still has his team on the outside working to find him, so perhaps a last-minute save will be in the works. — Terrell Smith

Nautilus (June 29, AMC)

I’ve never read Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, but I’m very familiar with Disney’s version featuring Kirk Douglas. The Nautilus series was meant to premiere on Disney Plus, but the deal fell through and the series eventually landed at AMC.

Nautilus is the story of Captain Nemo (Shazad Latif) and his futuristic vessel, the Nautilus. He wants revenge against the tyrannical East India Mercantile Company who stole everything from him. As their former prisoner, the East India Mercantile Company wants the Indian Prince back in custody after he not only escapes prison but steals the Nautilus as well.

To be honest, I can’t even begin to imagine how this story will come to life as a series, but I’m very excited to see it. As a science fiction fan, Verne’s story is the cream of the crop and this could be the biggest surprise of the summer. — Sarabeth Pollock

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 (July 17, Paramount Plus)

After a musical episode that tore the house down in season 2, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is set to up the ante with bigger and bolder adventures. There’s some unfinished business to be addressed in the new season after the crew of the USS Enterprise encountered one of the most feared alien species in the universe: the Gorn.

During a special sneak peek at San Diego Comic Con in 2024, fans were treated to a clip featuring several members of the crew transforming into Vulcans for an important mission. Pike (Anson Mount) is quick to point out that there will be 4.5 Vulcans on the mission, as Ethan Peck’s Spock is half human.

What I love about Strange New Worlds is how it’s a return to the story-of-the-week format as seen in other series in the franchise. As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I love how the show honors canon while charting its own course. — Sarabeth Pollock

Wednesday season 2 (August 6, Netflix)

Wednesday had me eating out its hand (no, not Thing’s) the moment I saw Jenna Ortega doing the now infamous dance. The inaugural season of the series was creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky, but best of all, it was entertaining. I completely understand why Ortega earned an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination for the role.

I’m expecting good things from Wednesday season 2, as rumor has it (from Netflix), more of the Addams family will be showcased, including Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) who becomes a student along with Wednesday at Nevermore Academy. I suspect it will be must-watch TV (well, streaming) to see the sibling dynamic play out in school, along with how Pugsly adjusts to his new classmates and “power.” Oh, and make way for Grandmama (Joanna Lumley) as she storms the show in season 2. — Terrell Smith

Alien: Earth (August 12, FX)

In space, no one can hear you scream. But on Earth, it’s a whole different matter. With Alien: Earth, for the first time we are getting a TV series based on the legendary sci-fi franchise Alien, and to cap it all out we are switching from the usual space location to our own planet.

Noah Hawley, the Emmy-winning creator of Fargo, is certainly going to bring his own spin to the franchise, but at its heart it seems that we’re also going a number of staples — an unsuspecting crew forced to reckon with one of the most perfect killing machines and, in the mold of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, a tough female lead (Sydney Chandler). — Michael Balderston

Dexter: Resurrection (TBD, Paramount Plus with Showtime)

At first there was Dexter, the story of the serial killer with a strict moral code. Then came various spinoffs and a prequel, but in Dexter: Resurrection the story continues with Michael C. Hall set to return to the titular role. Following the events of 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, Dexter is back, we think. It’s hard to say because all evidence pointed to his death at the end of New Blood, yet he’s supposedly coming back for more.

Not knowing is part of the allure. These days there is so much information about new shows and there’s not much known about Resurrection at all, aside from the fact that Hall is returning and so are original series stars David Zayas and James Remar. New Blood’s Jack Alcott will once again play Dexter’s son, Harrison.

For now I'm going to do a re-watch of the original series to get ready for the new show. It’s gory, humorous, sentimental and dramatic all rolled into one. I'm eager to see what happens as the franchise continues. — Sarabeth Pollock

The undead are taking over the Big Apple ahead of the May 4 premiere of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2. One of the biggest events is a walker-themed takeover at the New York Mets game on April 29.

After a morning spent taking over the Empire State Building, Penn Station, PopUp Bagels, Radio City Music Hall and the AMC Networks Office, the walkers are heading to Citi Field to catch the New York Mets as they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Dead City stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan will be throwing out the first pitch and Mets players will be taking batting practice with replica Lucille bats. Hordes of walkers be be on hand for photo ops and lots of exclusive merchandise will be given away.

The Mets are currently riding high after a massive 19-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday Night. They go into Tuesday's game as the first place team in the National League East with a 20-9 record on the season. The Diamondbacks are currently in 4th place in the NL West with a 15-13 record. The game begins at 7:10 pm ET/4:10 pm PT and fans can tune in on Dbacks.TV, SNY or MLB Network.

After Dead City night at Citi Field, the fun continues on Wednesday, April 30, at the Paley Center Dead City screening and Q&A session. There will be red carpet arrivals and a screening of the season premiere, followed by a Q&A session with the cast.

It has been a busy week for the undead after walkers took part in the NYCRUNSBrooklyn Experience Half Marathon on Sunday and the Rooftop Films Special Advance Screening on Monday.

Dark Winds season 3 episode 3 opens with two little girls playing on the reservation. They set up a board like a ramp for one of the girls to try and jump over the other on a bike.

Just as she starts pedaling her friend signals her to stop. She sees something in the dirt on the ravine floor. When one of the girls pulls on a piece of cloth on the ground, they see it’s attached to a skeleton. It’s B.J. Vines.

The search continues

Things then pick back up with Chee (Kiowa Gordon) and Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) on horseback, still trying to find George Bowlegs (Bodhi Okuma Linton). They come across a small farm. In an outbuilding they find a red truck, like the one seen the night Ernesto Cata was killed.

A man comes in, but turns and runs when he sees them. As Leaphorn and Chee catch up with him more people appear. Leaphorn introduces himself and Chee, explaining they are investigating a murder.

A man named Halsey (Phil Burke) steps forward and says they are just running a small chili farm. Leaphorn asks who the red truck belongs to and a woman, Suzanne Thompson (Casimere Jollette), says it’s hers. She and Halsey go with the two cops to show them the registration for the truck.

Chee and Leaphorn check out the truck, but find nothing suspicious. Halsey says they haven’t seen any kids. Leaphorn and Chee leave, but first Leaphorn gives his card to Suzanne and tells them to get in touch if they see George.

Leaphorn and Chee go back to the station. Agent Washington (Jenna Elfman) pulls Leaphorn into her office and tells him the body that was found was sent to Flagstaff for identification, but she’s pretty sure it’s B.J. Vines. She asks Leaphorn to take her out to the site where the body was found so she can look around.

Bernie keeps digging

Meanwhile in New Mexico, Bernadette (Jessica Matten) leaves the apartment she shares with Garza (Tonantzin Carmelo) to go to work. She finds her gun on the seat of her car. When she gets to work she pulls up the agency’s file on Baca (Raoul Max Trujilo). Munos (Alex Meraz) tells Bernadette Baca is a really bad guy who works security for Spenser (Bruce Greenwood).

Bernie goes to her boss and tells him about stopping the tanker. She asks him how she can make things with Spenser. He tells her to go to the ranch and apologize.

Bernie does, but Spenser is curt and dismisses her after her apology. She offers to apologize to Baca too, but Spenser tells her that’s not necessary. On her way out of the ranch she stops to look around but she doesn’t find anything suspicious.

Later, Bernie is ready for her date with Munos. There’s a knock at the door expecting Munos, but it’s Baca. He heard from Spenser that Bernie was looking for him, and he’s free now. She grabs her purse, and a gun, and goes with him. He insists on driving. She’s scared, but agrees. In an incredibly tense drive, Baca takes her across the border into Mexico and refuses to tell her where they are going.

Eventually, they sit in a small restaurant. She doesn’t eat the food Baca orders. He wants to know why she was looking for him. Bernie sticks to her story about wanting to apologize, but Baca knows that’s not the truth. He leaves her there. She walks back to the border, where Munos is waiting for her after she called him to pick her up.

Ghosts

At the site where B.J. Vines was found, Agent Washington can’t figure out how B.J. got to the remote ravine. Leaphorn is uncomfortable answering her questions. While she is talking, Leaphorn has a hallucination of himself vomiting up blood and an arrowhead like the one found in Cata’s mouth.

Emma (Deanna Allison) goes to bring some flour to her parents. While she is there an announcement on the radio says that the body of B.J. Vines has been found.

When Leaphorn gets home, Emma is sitting at the table. She tells him about the announcement, and tells him not to make her ask. He tells her he couldn’t let Vines get away. Emma gets extremely upset and yells at him, saying he invited the spirit of Vines into their home and bloodied the memory of their son. Leaphorn tells Emma he did what he had to do. She runs outside, crying.

After the fight with Emma, Leaphorn goes back to the station. He gets a strange phone call from Suzanne, who says she will meet him at an old trading post in 45 minutes. Leaphorn immediately heads to the meeting spot.

She’s spooked but tells Leaphorn she knows Ernesto and George. She also tells him that Halsey was driving her truck the night Ernesto was killed and was gone all night. Then she runs.

Prime suspect

The next day Leaphorn and Chee, with Sena (A Martinez) and his men, descend on the chili farm with guns drawn. It’s a lot of ground to cover. Chee and two officers secure a shed, and inside on the floor Chee finds drugs.

There’s also a bulletin board with photos on it. One of the photos is of Bernadette. Leaphorn chases Halsey into an old barn. Suzanne is in the corner, overdosed on drugs. Joe stops to check on her. Halsey runs out and heads for the red truck, with Chee and Sena in pursuit.

Halsey escapes, nearly running over Chee and Sena. Leaphorn stays with Suzanne while she dies.

Dark Winds season 3 episode 2 opens with Budge Baca (Raoul Max Trujillo) driving in a truck with a man who has Bernadette’s gun. He tells Baca he stole the gun while chasing the girls by the river. They drive up to a site overlooking a small ravine where there is heavy equipment. Baca turns on the man, smothering him with a plastic bag.

When the man passes out, Baca pushes the truck into the ravine. He starts up an excavator and starts to dump massive loads of dirt to fill in the ravine and bury the truck and the man.

Sacred objects

Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) sits at his dining table going over Ernesto Cata’s file. He’s deeply troubled. Emma (Deanna Allison) tells him he doesn’t have to be the one to solve everything, but he brushes her off. Joe leaves to go to the coroner’s office to get Cata’s autopsy results.

When he pulls back the sheet on Cata’s body, just for a moment he sees the frozen face of B.J. Vines (John Diehl) and gets spooked, but Gordo Sena (A Martinez) arrives and Joe is all business again.

Sena tells him the murder weapon was likely a small claw hammer or knife. He thinks the boys must have fought and George Bowlegs (Bodhi Okuma Linton) killed his friend. But Joe is more concerned by the arrowhead that was found in Cata’s mouth. Joe tells Sena the arrowhead is a sacred object, and no Navajo would have placed it in the mouth of a dead body. Joe is concerned whoever killed Ernesto is also after George.

Shorty’s alibi is busted

While Joe is at the coroner’s office, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) goes to find Winford (Phil Burke), Shorty Bowleg’s (Derek Hinkey) cousin who was supposedly with him the night Cata was murdered. Winford says he wasn’t with Shorty, but that Shorty asked him to lie.

Joe goes back to the dig site where Teddi (Carly Roland) and Dr. Reynolds (Christopher Heyerdahl) are working. Dr. Reynolds helps Joe examine the arrowhead, telling him it’s a mass produced tourist trinket.

Joe drives back to the police station and finds Emma sitting outside with Agent Washington (Jenna Elfman). Emma brought Joe lunch, so they sit on the truck and eat together. Emma tells Joe she invited Sylvia to dinner, which Joe isn’t thrilled about

Bernadette seeks answers

In New Mexico, Bernadette (Jessica Matten) is continuing to track down leads. She figures out the image the little girl drew is the emblem of the Spencer Ranch. Tom Spencer (Bruce Greenwood) is a rich and powerful landowner whose oil production operation on his family’s ranch makes him one of the area’s most influential men.

She hides in the scrub overlooking the ranch taking photos, catching a white van driving in. Things go sideways when she’s surprised by a goat charging at her. A shot rings out, killing it. Spencer was hunting the goat. He introduces himself. to Bernadette and offers to escort her to look around the ranch.

On the property she questions him about the purpose of several sheds and barns, where she suspects women could be held. In a garage she sees a white van. The plates are new, but she knows it’s the van she saw because of the marks on it. Spencer is very wary of her, so she thanks him and leaves.

Back at the Border Patrol office, Bernadette’s partner Garza (Tonantzin Carmelo) cautions her about stirring up trouble with Spencer, explaining Spencer provides a third of the actionable intelligence that the Border Patrol gets.

Get Shorty

Back at the reservation, Sena, Joe and Chee go to search Shorty Bowleg’s property. In the barn they find a small hoof knife with blood on it, so they arrest Shorty.

Chee questions Shorty about his long history of arrests, but Shorty doesn’t admit to any crimes. He does get emotional when they show him Cata’s autopsy photos though. Sena interrupts to tell them the blood on the knife was from a horse. Shorty’s not the killer.

While Chee finishes up with Shorty, Agent Washington pulls Joe into her office with some questions about B.J. Vines. It doesn’t make sense to her that a man like Vines would go off by himself without any of his money. Joe tells her when she finds him she can ask him.

That night, Bernadette calls the police station hoping to talk to Joe about her case. Chee answers, and they talk briefly. When Bernadette leaves the Border Patrol office to find she’s got a flat tire. One of the other agents, Ivan Munos (Alex Meraz) helps her change it. They go to the local dive bar and play pool, drink and flirt.

The monster is real

After his shift, Chee goes back to Bowlegs’ property. He finds Shorty saddling a horse. Chee is sure he’s taking food to George. Chee manages to convince Shorty to take him to where George is hiding, in their family cabin. Chee calls Joe, who brings more horses.

In New Mexico, Bernadette is on duty at a weigh station. One of Spencer’s oil trucks comes through and she’s suspicious they are using the oil trucks to traffick women. There are two men in the cab, and one is Budge Baca. She searches the truck warily but finds nothing.

Chee, Joe and Shorty ride toward the cabin. When they get to the cabin Shorty goes in first. The horses are spooked, as sounds of a scuffle come from inside. Joe draws his gun and goes in. He finds Shorty on the ground, knocked out. Joe hears a sound and turns to find the skeletal figure he’s been seeing rush at him and knock him down. He fires his gun. Chee rushes in and finds Joe bleeding on the ground. The monster is real, and now it’s drawn blood.

Dark Winds season 3 is going even darker. Things open at a secluded spot on the reservation at night. There’s a small beam of light from a flashlight on the ground. It illuminates Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) lying on the ground with a dart in his neck, the kind used to tranquilize animals.

Joe wakes up and pulls the dart from his neck. Injured and shaking he manages to crawl to his radio on the ground and tells the dispatcher to send help. He hears whistling and drags himself behind a rock. Then he hears footsteps that stop just on the other side of the rock. Slowly, Joe pulls himself up to look over the edge of the rock. He sees a skeletal face wrapped in a black blanket peering at him.

A new case

From there the story rewinds to seven days prior. It’s morning and Joe is making breakfast. Emma (Deanna Allison) comes into the kitchen. Joe gets a call telling him it’s time to go to work.

He meets up with his deputy Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) and Sheriff Gordo Sena (A. Martinez) as his team are processing a potential crime scene. A 14-year-old boy, Ernesto Cata (Alonso Rappa), is missing. He spent the night with his friend George Bowlegs, but George turned up at school and Cata didn’t. They found a bike, with hatchet marks in the frame, and a lot of blood. Their primary suspect is either Shorty Bowlegs (Derek Hinkey) or his son George.

Chee and Leaphorn go to the school on the reservation to talk to George, but he gives them the slip and runs out of the school before they can talk to him, taking off on his bike.

Bernadette working Border Patrol

The story shifts to Hachita, N.M., where Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) has joined the Border Patrol. She sees a suspicious van sitting on the side road near the border. After calling in her position she approaches the van, gun drawn. There’s no one in the van, but she sees a mother and her young daughter running.

Bernadette goes after them. The woman pulls a gun, so Bernadette slowly takes off her gun belt and tries to communicate to the woman that she won’t hurt them. The woman runs again and Bernadette follows.

Eventually she catches up to the woman and her daughter. She brings them back to her vehicle to take them in, but her gun has been stolen from her gun belt on the ground. The white van drives off.

In the Border Patrol field office, Bernadette tells her boss (Terry Serpico) that she wants to question the woman and the girl more, but he tells her that they are being deported the next day and that the case is over.

Bernadette sneaks into the cell where the mother and daughter are to try and question them because she thinks they were being trafficked and she’s concerned other women are also in danger.

The mom and daughter don’t speak any English, and Bernie only knows a few words in Spanish. The little girl draws a symbol on a piece of paper and says “pig,” But that’s all the information Bernie can get.

The next day Bernie can’t let go of the feeling that there’s more going on, so she goes out on her own to try and find the white van.

The past returns

Leaphorn and Chee go to see Shorty Bowlegs and find out if he knows where George is. Shorty and Chee have a bad history, so Shorty is not inclined to cooperate.

When Chee and Leaphorn return to the police station, they meet FBI Agent Sylvia Washington (Jenna Elfman). She’s there to look into some cases on the reservation for the FBI, including the disappearance of B.J. Vines (John Diehl).

That night, Joe has a nightmare about a frozen B.J. Vines in the snow. Once awake, Joe notices the animals are very disturbed. He takes his gun outside thinking it’s a coyote, but there’s nothing there. Leaphorn is spooked. He hears a whistle, and he turns to see a skeletal figure wrapped in a black robe. At that moment Emma calls him, and the figure disappears.

Finding Ernesto Cata

The next day, Joe returns to the Bowlegs house to try and find George. George’s younger brother tells Leaphorn that Ernesto and George have been hanging out at an archeological dig site on the reservation. So, Leaphorn and Chee head up there.

The boys aren’t there, but researcher Teddi Isaacs (Carly Roland) knows them. She said the head researcher fired the boys after they fought and contaminated part of the dig. Teddi explains they are searching for lance points made by the Folsom people that would connect the Folsom and the Navajo.

Back at the police station, Leaphorn stares uncomfortably at his desk while Agent Washington works nearby. Sena calls with a lead on Ernesto Cata, so Joe meets him on a section of the road where a red truck possibly connected to disappearance was spotted. Together they trace the truck tracks and look for evidence.

Leaphorn finds a drainage tunnel with tracks near it. He and Sena crawl through the tunnel from opposite ends. Inside they find the body of Ernesto Cata, with a lance point in his mouth.

One of TV’s hidden gems, Dark Winds season 3 returned to TV in 2025. The AMC crime drama follows a Navajo police chief in the 1970s aired its finale episode of Dark Winds season 2 back in August of 2023, so fans had a bit of a wait for the next case to arrive. Dark Winds behind the scenes

Graham Roland is the creator of Dark Winds, adapting it from the Leaphorn & Chee books from Tony Hillerman. John Wirth is the showrunner.

Executive producers of Dark Winds include Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Vince Gerardis and Anne Hillerman.

After setting up a strong foundation in the first season, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches season 2 is sultry, sexy and scary as hell. While season 1 reveled in all its Southern Gothic glory, season 2 basks in its darkness as a true horror story. Reviewers were given the first seven episodes of the season to review and I can tell you without hesitation that season 2 is bewitchingly brilliant.

Season 2 picks up shortly after season 1. Mayfair designee Rowan (Alexandra Daddario) has given birth to Lasher but the child is no ordinary creature; the milk-guzzling demon is growing by leaps and bounds by the hour in his new human form. Rowan is concerned, but when she sees the youngster shedding his baby teeth with a bloody grin she knows that she’s in trouble. What’s keeping her from seeking help, however, is the fact that her powers are growing exponentially with her son (and former lover) nearby and she’s not exactly willing to part with them. But when an older Lasher (Jack Huston) starts getting into deeper trouble, Rowan is forced to act.

Meanwhile, Sip (Tongayi Chirisa) is trying to navigate the complexities of the Talamasca knowing that they, too, have interests in Lasher. Cortland Mayfair (Harry Hamlin) was turned to stone by Rowan after his web of lies started to untangle; though he’s a statue hidden in her basement, however, Cortland is on a horrifying journey of his own.

New to the cast this season are Alyssa Jirrels as Moira Mayfair, Ben Feldman as Lark and Ted Levine as Julien Mayfair. Moira arrives in New Orleans after her sister Tessa’s death in the first season. The young mind reader wants answers and she knows Rowan is the one who knows the truth. She’s smart and witty, and it didn’t take long for her to become one of my favorite Mayfairs.

Lark and Rowan go way back; she turns to him in the present day for help and given how close they once were. Lark provides some much-needed levity to break up some of the more tense moments in the series; as the outsider, he watches the Mayfair affairs like a spectator sport. While he’s a fish out of water, he doesn’t hesitate to offer assistance as Rowan and her allies hunt for Lasher.

Daddario has found her footing as Rowan, skillfully portraying her as off-balanced and uncertain as she navigates her strange motherhood journey, her new powers and her role as the Mayfair designee. Huston’s Lasher is a child in a man’s body. He can’t control his urges, which puts the Mayfairs in danger. It’s fun watching Huston shift from charming to childlike and back again, making it easy to forget that Lasher is still, in fact, a demon in sheep’s clothing.

I find that Mayfair Witches’ true strength as a series comes from the supporting characters. Hamlin and Chirisa could (and should!) absolutely front their own spinoff series, while Jirrels, Feldman and Levine are very welcome additions to the fold (and could have their own spinoffs, too!). Hamlin masterfully portrays the razor-thin line between Cortland’s trademark shrewdness and his newfound sense of vulnerability while Chirisa brings out Sip’s humanity as a man torn between shattered truths and an uncertain future. And we have to give credit to Charlayne Woodard as Dolly Jean Mayfair and Jen Richards as Jojo Mayfair, who elevate every scene they’re in.

While I can’t say much about Levine’s Julien yet, I will say this as a non-spoilery preview: if you appreciated Ben Daniels’ stellar turn as Santiago in Interview with the Vampire season 2, you’re going to love watching Levine’s portrayal of Julien. Let me put it this way: if Sam Reid’s Lestat and Levine’s Julien were competing in a Brat Prince contest, it would probably be a tie. That should tell you everything.

Showrunner Esta Spalding has course-corrected from the often sluggish first season to give season 2 a much quicker pace and a darker, horror-laden feel. Mayfair Witches season 2 sheds the heavy narratives that bogged down the first season, seizing the strong foundation that was built to elevate the story. With only eight episodes, though, there are moments when you wish there was more time to explore certain stories and characters. All in all, after watching the first seven episodes I’m genuinely excited to see what’s ahead for Mayfair Witches in the future.

Anne Rice fans will appreciate the Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the new season, which not only provides a few links to Interview with the Vampire but also to the new Talamasca series as well. In fact, it’s fair to say that Mayfair Witches season 2 is the glue between AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe, not only building its own future with a strong story but also providing a nod to what’s ahead in the shared universe as well.

Mayfair Witches season 2 premieres Sunday, January 5, at 9 pm ET/PT on AMC and will be available to stream same day on AMC Plus.

There's no rest for the TV viewers, as the 2025 TV slate gets rolling right away with some big time premieres and will continue with massive show and massive show all year across streaming and linear TV. We wouldn't have it any other way.

With all of these exciting shows coming to air, some of our What to Watch team members got together to pick the 15 TV shows they are most excited for this year. From genre favorites to star-studded thrillers to a continuation of a show that found new life on streaming. We've listed the shows in order of when they premiere (and if they don't have a release date at this time they're listed alphabetically).

So, no need to drag this out any longer. Here are the TV shows that we are most looking forward to watching in 2025.

Mayfair Witches season 2 (January 5, AMC)

The last time we saw Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario), she’d just given birth to Lasher, giving the powerful and mysterious entity a corporeal body. Now, in Mayfair Witches season 2, Lasher’s plans become known. We’ve been excited for the show to return for a number of reasons; now that the groundwork has been laid, it’s time for the Mayfairs to come together to fight Lasher (Jach Huston), but not everyone believes he should be destroyed given how much power and influence he’s given the family. This complex and visually stunning series has a lot to offer as Anne Rice’s witches really start to come out and play. — Sarabeth Pollock

The Traitors season 3 (January 9, Peacock)

After the must-watch event that Peacock’s The Traitors season 2 proved to be, I can’t wait for Peacock’s The Traitors season 3. The new episodes may be some of the most explosive yet as Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Sandoval is slated to compete, and some of his fellow competitors, like Dorinda Medley and Chrishell Stause, were on Ariana Madix’s side as the infamous Scandoval affair played out. Will they tell Tom their true feelings on the matter face-to-face? Speaking of Dorinda, considering her track record with ruffling a few feathers on The Real Housewives of New York and The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, I’m excited to see how far she makes it in a competition where having alliances is key. — Terrell Smith

Severance season 2 (January 17)

Severance hit TV like a wrecking ball when it premiered in 2022, quickly fascinating viewers (myself included) with its complex story of a group of individuals who decide to split their consciousness between an "innie," who works for the mysterious Lumen company, and an "outie," who goes about their life outside the office, with neither knowing anything about the other. Of course some kind of foul play is at hand, and with the cliffhanger ending we were left with with Severance season 1, the three-year wait has been hard. But it ends early in 2025 thankfully, with Severance season 2 letting fans clock back in on one of the more fascinating shows going right now. — Michael Balderston

Harlem season 3 (January 23, Prime Video)

I’ve been a fan of Harlem since it became a buzzy hit comedy during its first season, and I’m still a fan heading into Harlem season 3. For me, the series helps fill a void left in the wake of Insecure no longer being on the air, and the characters being in their 30s speaks to where I am in life. I appreciate the show for tackling real issues while also making sure to add levity to any given situation. When it comes to the new episodes, I’m wondering what may happen between Camille (Meagan Good) and Ian (Tyler Lepley) now that she’s uncertain of her desires to have a baby, and if Angie (Shoniqua Shandai) will actually be able to sustain her new relationship with Michael (Luke Forbes). — Terrell Smith

Paradise (January 28, Hulu)

Sterling K. Brown is one of my favorite actors, so I’m looking forward to him starring in the new drama series Paradise. Not only is Brown portraying a man desperately trying to prove he didn’t commit the highest form of treason in the land, but Brown is also reunited with This Is Us creator, Dan Fogelman, who developed Paradise. Given the subject matter, I’m not anticipating nearly half as many tearjerking moments as were offered up in This Is Us, but I am holding out hope that Paradise captures just as much of my attention in this new-aged whodunnit drama. — Terrell Smith

Suits: LA (February 23, NBC)

To know me is to know I love a witty drama. It’s the reason I’m enamored with shows like The Lincoln Lawyer and Matlock, and it’s why I’m excited to see Suits: L.A. I was a latecomer to the whole Suits craze when it originally aired, but like many streamers, I binged the series after it became available on Netflix and instantly became a fan. Between the verbal quips and plot twists, I’m fascinated with the original Suits characters, so I’m hoping some of that magic will be reflected in the new series when it airs. The fact that Gabriel Macht, aka Harvey Spector, is in Suits: LA is quite promising. — Terrell Smith

Daredevil: Born Again (March 4, Disney Plus)

It’s been over six years since Daredevil aired on Netflix, and I’ve been impatiently waiting for the moment when Charlie Cox would again portray Matthew Murdock in his own series, which thankfully comes in 2025 with Daredevil: Born Again (he only made guest appearances in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law). Back when the Marvel hero was on Netflix, I applauded the show as being the best live-action Marvel series with the best fight choreography across TV and movies. With the MCU officially regaining full control of the Daredevil character and Cox returning to the titular role, I’m hopeful Daredevil: Born Again will hold my attention from beginning to end. Will it pack a bigger punch than WandaVision, Loki and Agatha All Along? — Terrell Smith

The Studio (March 26, Apple TV Plus)

As someone who is fascinated by the history and machinations of Hollywood, The Studio likely had me with little effort. But throw in the fact that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (producers of This Is the End, Sausage Party and The Boys) are behind it and the trailer teased a stellar cast and cameos from Hollywood legends, including Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron and Anthony Mackie presumably as themselves, I'm incredibly excited for the satirical dive into the studio system this show promises. — Michael Balderston

And Just Like That season 3 (TBD, Max)

And Just Like That season 2 ended with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) moving into a new home and making a pact with longtime beau Aidan (John Corbett) that they will pick up their romance after his son grows up and leaves the house. It was a big ask, but Carrie seemed ready to commit to the idea. With And Just Like That season 3, we’re ready to see where Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristen Davis) go next. They’ve all been through a lot, growing and learning about themselves in this next phase of their lives, and they have a growing circle of new friends who are in the same boat. We’re eager to see where the story takes us in the new season. — Sarabeth Pollock

Black Dagger Brotherhood (TBD, Passionflix)

Passionflix has been growing their platform of romance novel adaptations for years with a hefty combination of movies and series from some of the best authors in the industry. Now they’re expanding their repertoire with an adaptation of J.R. Ward’s bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series about big brooding vampires trying to fight evil and find salvation in the form of their one true love. There is romance, there are vampires and there’s danger lurking around every corner. Oh, and there’s a swoon-worthy cast that will bring several books in Ward’s epic series to life. The first season of Black Dagger Brotherhood finished filming in December 2024 and is expected to premiere in 2025. If the social media comments from fans are any indication, this could be one of the streamer’s biggest hits yet. And this is just the beginning. — Sarabeth Pollock

Chad Powers (TBD, Hulu)

Glen Powell is on a hot streak coming off Twisters and Hit Man (two of my favorite movies of 2024). Can he extend that magic touch to TV? He'll try it out using the Ted Lasso playbook — taking a viral online video and turning it into a full fledged series. Chad Powers originated as a prank by Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning pretending to be an aspiring walk-on at a college program. Powell and Michael Waldron (Heels, Loki) have expanded on that for a sports comedy that I'm hoping is a lot of fun. — Michael Balderston

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (TBD, HBO)

I've been enjoying Skeleton Crew, which hasn't dove too much into Jedi or the Skywalkers, as a nice change of pace for the Star Wars franchise. I'm looking forward to something similar coming from the Game of Thrones franchise in 2025 with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. We're getting out of King's Landing and machinations for the Iron Throne between the Targaryens and others for this one, as it focuses on the adventures of a lowly knight and his squire. It's sounds like a breath of fresh air for a franchise we all know so well. — Michael Balderston

The Last of Us season 2 (TBD, HBO)

By the time The Last of Us season 2 arrives it will have been well over two years since the last time we saw Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) on our screens. Joel risked everything to get Ellie to safety under the belief that she held the cure to the mutated Cordyceps fungus that transforms humans into ruthless killers, only to arrive at the facility to learn that the only way to see if the hypothesis was true was to kill her. Joel saved Ellie’s life and now their journey continues in season 2. It didn’t take long for the series, based on a beloved video game franchise, to quickly gain a following of fans who not only lauded the post-apocalyptic world the show created but also the way the show portrayed the humanity of it all and the way love will always find a way. — Sarabeth Pollock

Stranger Things season 5 (TBD, Netflix)

I honestly don't think there is a bigger TV event this year then the final season of Stranger Things. Netflix's sci-fi series has become a global phenomenon, so the anticipation to see how Eleven and the rest of our group of heroes try to defeat the monsters of the Upside Down once and for all is sky high. Bingeing is not a practice that I partake in as much anymore, but I will be watching every episode of Stranger Things season 5 as fast as I can to make sure that nothing is spoiled for me. — Michael Balderston

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 (TBD, AMC)

No one ever thought Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) would ever be able to work together, leading many fans of The Walking Dead to wonder how The Walking Dead: Dead City could ever work. Sending the bitter enemies to a walker-infested New York City led to an epic adventure during their mission to save Maggie’s son. In The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, Maggie and Negan are in very different places. Negan once again has a position of power, but will he revert to his old ways or will he approach things differently? Maggie, on the other hand, will never trust Negan, but now that she understands what’s happening in the city, she can’t turn a blind eye to it. — Sarabeth Pollock

Interview with the Vampire season 2 just aired this past spring and production on Interview with the Vampire season 3 begins in November. AMC dazzled fans with a teaser for Interview with the Vampire season 3 at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, only it wasn't just a teaser  it was a full music video featuring The Vampire Lestat (Sam Reid) in all his rockstar glory.

Interview with the Vampire was one of the top performing shows on AMC in 2022, opening the door to the vibrant and sultry world of the Anne Rice Universe. Given their success, both Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches were quickly granted second seasons at the network.

Filming on the second season kicked off in April 2023 and wrapped up after the conclusion of the actors and writers strikes in the fall.

UK fans can finally watch Interview with the Vampire season 2. The season premiere is Thursday, August 1, on BBC Two and it will also be available on BBC iPlayer on the same day.

Interview with the Vampire season 2 is available to stream in the US on AMC Plus.

"In Interview’s eight-episode second season, which wrapped production last year in Prague, Paris and New Orleans, the interview continues.  In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian).  Picking up from the bloody events in New Orleans in 1940 when Louis and teen fledgling Claudia (Delainey Hayles) conspired to kill the Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid), Louis tells of his adventures in Europe, a quest to discover Old World Vampires and the Theatre Des Vampires in Paris, with Claudia. It is in Paris that Louis first meets the vampire Armand (Assad Zaman). Their courtship and love affair will prove to have devastating consequences both in the past and in the future, and Molloy will probe to get to the truths buried within the memories.

Interview with the Vampire is the first book in Anne Rice's beloved Vampire Chronicles. The bestselling 1976 novel was first adapted as a feature film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in 1994. For the purposes of the AMC series, the book was divided in half by showrunner Rolin Jones, who brought the first half to life in season 1 and will explore the second half with season 2. 

The AMC adaptation has seen some adjustments from the original source material, most notably a switch in time periods from the late 18th century and early 19th century to the early 20th century. 

Interview with the Vampire season 2 cast

Most of the season 1 cast returns for the second season. Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) reprises his role as Louis and Sam Reid (The Newsreader) returns as Lestat. Eric Bogosian (Succession) is also back as investigative reporter Daniel Molloy while Assad Zaman (Small Axe) brings the vampire Armand to life after his character's big reveal at the end of the first season. 

One of the new faces is Delainey Hayles, who will replace Bailey Bass as Claudia. Bass made the decision to move on from the role in March before filming started on the second season. Hayles is known for her performance in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in London's West End, as well as her roles in Too Close and Holby City. 

Ben Daniels (Foundation, The Crown) also joins the cast in season 2 as Louis' eventual nemesis, the vampire Santiago. 

David Costabile joins the cast of Interview as a guest star in the role of Leonard, a seasoned TV personality who has a run-in with Molloy. Recurring guest stars this season include Roxane Duran (The White Ribbon, Riviera) as Madeleine and Bally Gill (Sherwood, Slow Horses) as 'Real Rashid.'

Interview with the Vampire season 2 trailer

The final two episodes of Interview with the Vampire season 2 were an utter delight. They were gutting, true, but they were a spectacle to behold. Sam Reid, the actor who brings the vampire Lestat to life, talked to What to Watch about Lestat's journey in the last two episodes of the season and how portraying Lestat has been "incredibly satisfying." (FYI, SPOILERS ahead.)

WTW asked about Lestat's theatrical journey in season 2, beginning with playing the harlequin early on in the season and then seeing him give the performance of a lifetime at the trial in episode 7. "He's a good actor and he's very charismatic on stage when we see him playing the harlequin," Reid said, but he noted the first time we saw Lestat on stage it was also very traumatic. "You're seeing the reality underneath it. Everyone's like, 'Lestat's the performer.' He's kind of a flashy clown, but actually in reality it's very traumatizing for him to be in this space. It's very exposing and the worst things happen on stage."

Regarding the trial where Lestat's fledglings, Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Claudia (Delainey Hayles), are being tried for their crimes, Reid noted Lestat "just doesn't want to be there in that trial. There's no part of him that wants to be there, but he's doing it because he has no choice from himself as well. He can't not be there. If he was given a choice, he would come regardless of the outcome."

Discussing the mortal audience and the difference it made having humans watching the trial instead of other vampires, Reid said, "I think it's actually to [Lestat's] benefit because for all Louis' attempts to say that Lestat hates mortals, Lestat really loves mortals. You hear Armand say that, and Lestat says it as well. So he has the opportunity to step out of the vampire world, the rules, the coven. He has an opportunity now. There are mortals there, [he can] get out into the crowd as much as possible. He has to have them all eating out of his hand so that when he does get into their minds to get them to say 'banishment' as opposed to 'death,' they’re compliant and they're easy to manipulate."

Reid also talked about the "absolute joy" he feels bringing such a dynamic character like Lestat to life. "A big part of [showrunner] Rolin's [Jones] adaptation is that he made sure each character carries enough agency to be in control of their own life. No one person, one vampire, is dominating or controlling another. It's not one goody or one baddie. All of them have their own agency and are responsible for their own actions. So Lestat, when he becomes a vampire, he is coming out of a world of repression. He kind of gets this whole kingdom and burns his way through it. It's too exciting, it's too much."

That excitement carries over to Lestat's relationship with Louis. "By the time you get to him and Louis, I think their love is very genuine, but [Lestat] is probably at his peak chaotic level and by the time we get to the end of season 1, he's really dealing with the repercussions of his behavior. I think it's s**t for him, but he probably deserves a lot of what comes at him. And I think he knows that, too."

Reid noted that when they arrive at the tower scene, Lestat tells Louis that death can only come if Lestat wills it. "In season 1 he knows he deserves to die, and now he continues to know he deserves to be punished. But he's got to learn."

One of the most poignant scenes in the season finale is Louis and Lestat embracing in the house as the hurricane unleashes its fury. The house is literally crumbling around them, but back in season 1 they brought the house down when they fought. This event came under the microscope in season 2 as Louis started to question his memory of what really happened in that first brawl. What to Watch asked about the symbolism of the houses collapsing for very different reasons, and how it's a beautiful place to end and, perhaps, begin again.

"It's definitely a clean slate between the two of them," Reid said. "What they really should have done [after Claudia's death] is go to each other and process that death together. And they didn't do that. And that home they built, that attempt at creating a domestic life with Claudia that they both destroyed and pulled apart a crumbling shell. It's a great analogy."

Lastly, Reid talked about becoming Lestat. "It has become like a lifestyle," he said. "It's all encompassing, I suppose. I didn't realize it was going to be as encompassing as it is, but it's incredibly satisfying, really. It's a wonderful thing to be a part of because it ticks a lot of boxes. It has a lot of these supernatural elements and you have the opportunity to go through all of these crazy highs and lows."

Reid, who read some of Anne Rice’s novels when he was younger, went back and read the books again ahead of playing the role. "I definitely went back and I was like, 'let me look at this again.' And I fell in love with the story again."

There's no release date available for Interview with the Vampire season 3. We'll have a better idea about when we can expect the new season after San Diego Comic-Con 2025, but we do know that production began in June 2025 and the show is expected in 2026.

The season 3 plot offers us a few clues about who we'll see in season 3. Sam Reid (The Newsreader) will return as Lestat, along with Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) as Louis, Assad Zaman (Hotel Portofino) as Armand, Eric Bogosian (Succession) as Daniel Molloy, Justin Kirk (Weeds) as Raglan James, Christopher Geary (Red Dead Redemption II) as Sam, Joseph Potter (My Policeman) as Nicolas and Gopal Divan (Little Voice) as Fareed.

New casting will be announced for the roles of Gabrielle, Magnus, Marius and the timeless original vampire couple Akasha and Enkil, also known as Those Who Must Be Kept.

Interview with the Vampire season 3 trailer

There's no trailer for Interview with the Vampire season 3 just yet, but AMC released a tantalizing teaser of what's to come during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. We're very ready to take a bit out of the panel at SDCC 2025, too, and we'll have the latest footage right here once it's available.

Good news, The Clone Club fans! The Orphan Black universe is expanding tonight with the US premiere of Orphan Black: Echoes, a much-anticipated spin-off of the fan-favorite Canadian sci-fi thriller. 

There's been a bit of a wait for the new offshoot: the Emmy-winning original series ended on August 12, 2017, and AMC first announced that a new series set in the Orphan Black universe was in early development stages back in 2019. In April 2022, the spinoff was officially greenlit for a ten-episode first season, with Jessica Jones' Krysten Ritter signed on as executive producer and star. She will portray Lucy, "a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world," per AMC. 

And after initially airing in Australia on Stan and coming to the UK last month as a full series box set on streaming service ITVX, Orphan Black: Echoes will arrive on TV stateside tonight, June 23 at 10:05pm on AMC, AMC Plus and BBC America. 

Created by Anna Fishko, the spinoff will take place in 2052, nearly four decades after the end of the original series. "Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence," reads the official synopsis. "It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal." 

Along with Ritter, the cast includes Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard) as "a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice"; Amanda Fix (North of Normal) as Jules, "a salty teen trying to find herself" and navigate being adopted by wealthy parents; and Avan Jogia (Now Apocalypse) as Jack, a soft-spoken former army medic and single father who "discovers the woman he loves has an unimaginable secret." Actors James Hiroyuki Liao and Rya Kihlstedt will also feature. 

Orphan Black: Echoes will be available to viewers on AMC, AMC Plus and BBC America, which are all part of the AMC Networks family. The Anne Rice Immortal Universe is expanding at AMC. Already the home of Rice's witches and vampires, new spinoff Talamasca: The Secret Order will highlight the mysterious, centuries-old organization dedicated to studying paranormal phenomena and protecting the vulnerable.

In Anne Rice's world, the mysterious order known as The Talamasca has existed for centuries. Always in the shadows, the organization's motto is that "We watch and we are always there." The group has been a major influence in all of Rice's books, and they're even more prevalent in the Anne Rice Immortal Universe. While the Motherhouse is based in England, branches of the organization are found all over the world and the New Orleans branch has had its hands full between the vampires and the witches.

While no crossovers between the shows have been announced at this time, there's no question that characters from one show could cross over to The Talamasca in the future.

The six-episode first season began filming in fall 2024 with an eye toward a 2025 release. The project filmed in Manchester, England. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) and Mark Lafferty (The Right Stuff, Halt and Catch Fire) serve as co-showrunners, with Hancock also stepping in to direct.

"With a working title of Anne Rice’s The Talamasca (later updated to Talamasca: The Secret Order) and slated for a 2025 premiere, the series will feature the men and women responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, werewolves and other creatures scattered around the globe.

"Members of The Talamasca are introduced in Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, the two current series in AMC’s Immortal Universe franchise. Oscar-nominated John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) and Mark Lafferty (The Right Stuff, Halt and Catch Fire) are serving as witers, co-showrunners and executive producers of the new series. Hancock will also direct."

Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, had this to say about the series: "This is a story we’ve been developing and wanting to tell from the earliest moments of this franchise, focused on a fascinating and compelling secret society that has already appeared in both of our existing Anne Rice series, The Talamasca. It didn't take long for Lafferty to join the project after hearing the pitch. Talamasca: The Secret Order cast

Nicholas Denton (Dangerous Liaisons, Glitch) has been cast as the lead in Talamasca: The Secret Order, playing the role of Guy Anatole. Here's what we know about Guy, as provided by an AMC press release: "He is brilliant, handsome and sharp on the surface, but he’s always known his mind works a little differently. On the cusp of graduating law school, he is approached by a representative of the Talamasca, a secretive agency that monitors and protects us from the supernatural world. When Guy learns that the Talamasca has been tracking him since his childhood, he falls headlong into a world of secret agents and immortal beings who, up to now, have maintained a fragile balance with the mortal world. But for that balance to hold, and for Guy to survive, he will have to learn to embrace the dark, treacherous depths of his true and singular self."

Variety reported that Downton Abbey's Elizabeth McGovern has been added to the cast as Helen, "a seasoned veteran of the Talamasca, and the leader of its New York Motherhouse. She has long suspected that London’s Motherhouse has fallen under the influence of traitorous elements, and a mysterious death prompts her to recruit Guy Anatole (Denton), who will become her protégé."

William Fichtner (Prison Break) also joined the cast as Jasper, "a mysterious American who has quietly assumed control and influence over the Talamasca’s London Motherhouse. Though his motives and methods are cloaked in shadow, his charm and righteous sense of purpose are as dangerous as the power he’s pursuing."

Also joining the cast are Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Nine Perfect Strangers, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) and Celine Buckens (Showtrial, The Ex-Wife), with Jason Schwartzman (Mountainhead, Pavements) set to guest star.

During San Diego Comic-Con, AMC revealed that Interview with the Vampire's Eric Bogosian (Succession) will be joining the Talamasca cast.

We've already met a few members of the Talamasca in Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches; whether or not we see them in The Talamasca series remains to be seen. They include Ciprien Grieve (Mayfair Witches' Tongayi Chirisa) and Interview with the Vampire's Raglan James (Justin Kirk).

The epic journey comes to an end in Snowpiercer season 4. AMC, the home of The Walking Dead franchise, Interview with the Vampire, Orphan Black: Echoes and Monsieur Spade, picked up the first seasons of the sci-fi epic and ordered a fourth and final season to allow the journey to play out for fans.

Snowpiercer, the story of a perpetually moving train circling the earth with the last remaining humans onboard is based on a graphic novel series from Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette, as well as a movie from Parasite director Bong Joon Ho. 

The series originally aired on TNT. The network ordered a fourth and final season, but parent company Warner Bros. Discovery shocked fans with the decision not to release the already produced final season in a cost-cutting movie. Fortunately, unlike the Batgirl movie that was shelved at WBD and will never have a chance to be seen, Snowpiercer's producers were able to shop around for a new home and AMC was quick to offer one. 

The first three seasons will be available on AMC Plus in June, ahead of the final season's July premiere.

What to Watch was at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 when executive producer Christoph Scwrewe noted that Snowpiercer, "a show about survival...survives," referencing the show's abrupt cancellation and resurrection. 

Showrunner Paul Zbyszewski noted that in wrapping up the show, the goal was to reveal what the future holds for the passengers. "Season 4 is the future," he said.

There are few better ways to celebrate Memorial Day and honor the service and sacrifice of America's military heroes than by spending the day with Easy Company and watching a Band of Brothers marathon. On Monday, May 27, starting at 11 am, AMC is airing all 10 episodes of the HBO award-winning limited series depicting US soldiers serving in Europe during World War Two.

Released in 2001 on HBO, Band of Brothers recounts the remarkable achievements of an elite team of U.S. paratroopers in World War Two. Based on the book by Stephen Ambrose, the series was produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks and starred Scott Grimes, Damien Lewis, Ron Livingston, Shane Taylor, Donnie Wahlberg and Peter Youngblood Hills, with appearances by familiar faces like Neal McDonough, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Stephen Graham, Simon Pegg, Colin Hanks, Dominic Cooper, Jimmy Fallon, James McAvoy, Andrew Scott and David Schwimmer.

The limited series (or miniseries as it was dubbed at the time) was nominated for 19 Emmys and won six of them, including Outstanding Miniseries and Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special. It would go on to spawn a pair of spinoff series, The Pacific, which debuted on HBO in 2010 and focused on the war against Japan, and Masters of the Air, which premiered on Apple TV Plus earlier this year and told the story of Air Force pilots during the war. Rick and Michonne's love story continues with The Walking Dead: The Ones That Live. This is the third in a trio of new spinoffs that come directly out of The Walking Dead flagship series, they include The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Previous spinoffs in the TWD Universe include Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Tales of the Walking Dead. 

For years Michonne (Danai Gurira) believed her husband Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) to be dead, but when a glimmer of hope appeared she went off in search of him. In The Walking Dead series finale, fans were given a glimpse of Michonne's journey to find Rick, along with confirmation that he's still alive out there, somewhere. 

The What to Watch review calls The Ones Who Live "a triumph, lovingly created by TWD fans for TWD fans."

Danai Gurira (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) returns as Michonne, a character she played on the main series for seven seasons. Andrew Lincoln (Love, Actually) returns as Rick Grimes and Pollyanna McIntosh (Vikings: Valhalla) also returns as Jadis/Anne. Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer) has been cast as Pearl.

AMC announced other new cast members including: Terry O'Quinn (Lost) as Beale, Matt Jeffries as Nat, Craig Tate and Andrew Bachelor.

Fans are desperate to know when Kin season 3 might be on our screens following the cliffhanger ending to the second instalment of the Irish crime drama. 

The RTÉ show following the Kinsella family's growing drug empire proved a ratings winner at home and abroad, with the second season earning a place in the top five most-watched shows when it landed on the BBC iPlayer in February 2024. 

Written by Peter McKenna, the crime drama, which boasts a cast including the likes of Aidan Gillen (The Wire), Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones) and Charlie Cox (Daredevil), has also proved popular with AMC+ viewers in America and Canada.

Following the release of the second season in Ireland in 2023 there had been rumours that the show may not be returning for a third season, yet recent reports suggest we might yet be back for another chapter. 

Here's everything we know about Kin season 3 so far...

Will there be a Kin season 3? 

The most recent update on this came in September 2024, when Emmett J Scanlan, who plays Jimmy Kinsella, hinted that while a third season hadn't been commissioned, there was plenty of interest in it from several broadcasters following its success on the iPlayer.

"I don't know if there's going to be season three. It hasn't been greenlit yet," he said during an appearance on ITV's This Morning. 

"There is a little bit of a – I don't know if I'm stepping out of line when I say this – maybe even a bidding war.

"But there is a lot of interest in it. I hope it comes back again. I would love to take on the role of Jimmy again. I'd love to."

That follows on from an announcement in August 2023 from the show's Irish broadcaster, RTÉ, saying they hoped the show would be back soon..

"RTÉ would very much like Kin to return and continues to work with our international partners to make it happen. We hope to have a further update in relation to season 3 in the coming months."

It was a statement that assuaged fans fears after the hit drama's production company, Bron Studios, filed for bankruptcy earlier that year. 

It seems one of the most difficult aspects of making a third season is the contract situation regarding some of the show's leading stars. 

“All the main actors signed three-year contracts in 2020 to appear in Kin, but it’s now 2024 and those ­contract have run out," Turkish-Irish actor Sinan Sicimoglu, who played the owner of a pawn shop used by the Dublin crime family to launder their money in the hit show, told the Irish Sun. 

“It might be difficult to get Charlie, Clare (Dunne) and Emmett (Scanlan), Sam (Keeley) or Maria (Doyle Kennedy) back on the same set. It must be tough for RTE because Kin is now such a massive hit for the BBC.”

Yet in early 2024, Emmett J. Scanlan told LADbible that season three was "very much alive".

"I know that we had the production company and the production company fell apart and stuff like that," he said. "So it's there for anybody to take, you know. I'd love it to be bought by somebody, the BBC, Netflix, anybody really, I'd just love to continue to tell the story and to finish it.

"So unfortunately, I don't have any, any solid views by that - that's not to say that the thing is, it's very much alive. And it's very much in people's consciousness and the more people that say, the more people that like it.

"And like I said, Britain have really, really embraced it, and that can only be a good thing. And that can only be a positive when we're talking about people possibility for season three, because I always speak for myself, I'm sure I speak for those as well that we'd love to get back on set and continue to tell this story, because we're quite proud of it to be honest.”

"I'm sure we're all hopeful that we get to continue the story or maybe even finish the story. It’s been an extraordinary ride." 

In February an RTÉ spokesperson also told Radio Times: "All the partners are in discussions about a third series, but there is nothing to announce at the moment."

So fingers crossed we get some good news soon! 

Kin season 3 possible release window

Despite some internet rumours that a third season had already been filmed and would be released later in 2024, it seems that's not the case. 

Given the contract situation of all the show's main stars, it could take a while to get everyone back on a set together and given Charlie Cox's schedule on Daredevil: Born Again, some time in 2025 is the earliest a third season might be on our screens. 

Whether a third series would premiere on RTÉ in Ireland, before coming to the BBC iPlayer and AMC+ in the states, as the previous two have done, remains to be seen. But if RTÉ did lose rights to the show, there would be no shortage of broadcasters willing to snap it up.. 

Kin season 3 plot

The second season of the hit crime drama revolved around Brendan Kinsella (Francis Magee) being released from prison and retaking control of the Kinsella crime family. 

However his brash and confrontational approach won him few friends inside the organisation and the series ended with his younger brother Frank Kinsella (Aidan Gillen) marching into the Furry Bog to gun him down, before turning the gun on himself. 

He arrived just seconds before Brendan's sons Michael (Charlie Cox) and Jimmy (Emmett J Scanlan) who were also planning to kill their father, after fearing he was about to go back to his old ways and abuse Michael's daughter. 

Meanwhile, young Anthony Kinsella (Mark McKenna Jr) had just "plugged" Glen Wright (Ben Carolan) a hitman from a rival gang who'd killed his brother Jamie, yet been involved in a hit-and-run afterwards. 

Elsewhere, Amanda Kinsella (Claire Dunne) conspired with Turkish crime boss Nuray Batuk (Öykü Karayel) to take out her cousin Hamza (Kenan Ece) and forge a profitable new drug route after her cousin tried to take her out. 

This growing trade with the Turks could prove a key plot line in a third season, yet Amanda may also face a battle to protect her family with the police sniffing around her son and Wright's family also out for vengeance... 

We'd also be keen to see how the rekindling of Michael and Amanda's romance went down in the Kinsella family — and especially his brother Jimmy. And what happened to Molly the pharmacist (Danielle Galligan), who mysteriously disappeared towards the end of season three after a brief fling with Michael? Could there have been more to her than met the eye?

The Walking Dead premiered on Halloween night in 2010. Based on a comic book, the series about people trying to survive a zombie apocalypse was a bold primetime choice for AMC, which was known for Mad Men and Breaking Bad. 

14 years later, the franchise is going strong and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live features the return of original character Rick Grimes and Michonne, his loving wife who never gave up hope of finding him. 

Let's get to know the cast of the newest spinoff in the TWD Universe, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. 

Danai Gurira as Michonne

Michonne has been on quite the journey over the years. She lost her husband Rick when he sacrificed himself on the bridge to save the community in The Walking Dead season 9. She'd been pregnant with their child at the time, so she raised Judith and their son, RJ, by herself while also taking care of Alexandria. When she discovered proof that Rick survived the bridge, she left her kids with Daryl (Norman Reedus) and went on a journey to find him. 

Danai Gurira is an actor, producer and writer, known for her role as Jill in Treme before joining The Walking Dead in its third season. One giant franchise wasn't enough for the multitalented Gurira, as she joined the Marvel family in 2018 with her role as Okoye in Black Panther. She's since appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. 

Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes

Rick Grimes is the man, the myth and the legend in the TWD Universe. The whole story began when he woke up from a coma in a hospital to discover that the world around him turned upside down. After working to keep his family safe, and after suffering tremendous loss over the years, he and Michonne were finally in a good place when a herd of walkers threatened the safety of his home. Ever the hero, Rick blew up the bridge to keep them from reaching the community and was presumed dead. However, Rick was saved by former Trash Heap boss Jadis, and she flew him to safety on a helicopter. He hasn't been seen since. 

Prior to his stint in the apocalypse, Andrew Lincoln might be best known as the guy with the signs professing his love for Keira Knightley in Love, Actually. Some of his non-TWD projects include Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, Penguin Bloom and Strike Back.

Lesley-Anne Brandt as Pearl 

We don't know much about Pearl, who is seen in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live teasers as someone who is working with Rick in the Civic Republic Military. She's tough and capable of taking care of herself, but it's too early to tell who she is and who she's fighting for. 

Lesley-Ann Brandt might be best known for her role as Maze in Lucifer. She's also appeared in a variety of projects like Heartlock, Adult Night, The Librarians, Gotham, Single Ladies and Being Mary Jane. 

Terry O'Quinn as Beale

Major General Beale is one of the highest-ranking CRM officials we've met in the TWD Universe to date. Like all military men, he plays by the book and he expects 100% from his soldiers. But can he be trusted, or does he have his own agenda?

Terry O'Quinn is probably best known as John Locke from Lost. He's appeared in a number of series, as in both recurring and guest roles, including Emergence, Hawaii Five-0, Patriot and Secrets and Lies. 

Craig Tate as Donald Okafor

Donald Okafor is another CRM soldier. Like Beale, he's tough and demanding, but we don't know who he is or what his motivation is. Can he be trusted? Only time will tell. 

Craig Tate is known for his roles in Greyhound, 12 Years a Slave and King Richard. He's also appeared in a number of other roles including I'm a Virgo, Reprisal and Snowfall. 

Matthew Jeffers as Nat

Nat is another new character in the TWD Universe. We don't know a lot about him, though he's wearing a heavy-duty apron in the image so he might be someone who knows how to build things. 

Matthew Jeffers is an actor and producer known for roles in Unidentified Objects, New Amsterdam, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Blacklist and FBI. 

Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis

Jadis is the perpetual mystery on The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. The former leader of the Heapsters, the community living in a trash heap, was responsible for saving Rick's life by calling for help on her walkie-talkie. At the time, no one understood her connection to the black helicopter that came to their rescue. In The Walking Dead: World Beyond, however, it's revealed that she's a CRM operative. Now she's back in The Ones Who Live, but we already know she can't be trusted.

Pollyanna McIntosh first appeared in The Walking Dead's seventh season, but she left a lasting impression and now she's a fixture in the TWD Universe, becoming one of the few actors to appear in more than one series. She's also known for many other roles, including Vikings: Valhalla, Lodge 49 and Hap and Leonard.

From the first few moments of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, there was no doubt that the latest TWD spinoff was a triumph, lovingly created by TWD fans for TWD fans. After all, stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira not only serve as executive producers on the project, but they also helped develop the story so their fingerprints are all over this series that's TWD at its finest. 

The Ones Who Live was created by a team of people who love The Walking Dead Universe as much as the fans. From blink-and-you'll-miss-it details to overt callbacks from days gone bye (pun intended), fans will appreciate how much effort went into getting every inch of this series right. And it's not just right, it's just about perfect. Most importantly, it's impossible to miss how much love went into the creation of the series.

AMC released the first four episodes of the six-episode season to the media, and as someone who has covered the show for close to a decade, I was immediately impressed with how well the story was able to move through the years. It didn't take long to reveal what happened to Rick after he was carted off by a mysterious helicopter and what Michonne went through to figure out where he was after he disappeared without a trace.

It seems fitting that Lincoln and Gurira were so involved in this story. In fact, Gurira penned the script for episode 4. As Rick and Michonne, their love story was the stuff of legend as they fought side-by-side to protect their friends and loved ones. Both actors never minced words about their love for the characters and the characters' love for one another, so having a hand in shaping their story in The Ones Who Live only makes it that much better. 

The four episodes I previewed move through time with astonishing speed, traversing hours, days, weeks and years with ease. This isn't to say there aren't some moments that move slower than others, but I found these slow moments to be a chance to catch my breath, because each episode is absolutely relentless and jam-packed with all of the elements that the TWD family loves about the franchise: drama, intrigue, jump-scares, gruesome walkers and epic walker kills. The show paints the Civic Republic and the Civic Republic Military in greater detail than we've seen in any of the other TWD spinoffs and it confirms what we've all been thinking: the CRM is every bit as terrifying as fans have imagined.

Lincoln and Gurira fall back into Rick and Michonne effortlessly. They always were a dynamic duo — both on the series and in real life — but now, after all these years apart, it's their connection to each other that really drives their performances home. It's the gleam in their eyes when they look at each other, Rick's grim determination and Michonne's steely resolve. They don't even need words; all it takes is eye contact and facial expressions for Lincoln and Gurira to sell the scene.

They're joined by a stellar cast that includes Lost alum Terry O'Quinn as the imposing Major Beale, Lucifer's Lesley-Anne Brandt as fierce Pearl, Craig Tate as mysterious Okafor and Matthew August Jeffers as brilliant Nat. Pollyanna McIntosh reprises her role as Jadis, making her one of the few characters to show up in multiple TWD series; she first appeared in The Walking Dead before showing up in The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has it all: plenty of characters to cheer for, characters to root against, watercooler-discussion-worthy walker kills and jaw-dropping moments that will have the TWD family blowing up social media with reactions, comments and theories. The series not only answers the questions fans have been asking since Rick and Michonne departed The Walking Dead, but it sets up a world of possibilities for the future of the franchise. 

The Ones Who Live is not only prestige television, it's peak TWD and it's a gift.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres Sunday, February 25, at 9 pm ET/PT on AMC and streams the same day on AMC Plus. 

Monsieur Spade episode 5 opens in Algeria in 1956. Philippe (Jonathan Zaccaï) sets up his gun, whistling while he works, and looks through the scope to see a man with a watermelon on his head. After pulling the trigger, he goes to check on him. The man is still alive, with watermelon all over his head. He's tied to the tree and is badly beaten. Philippe wants answers from him about a man in a photo. The prisoner says he doesn't know who the man is or anything about the OAS. Since he didn't offer any answers, Philippe goes to start the whole thing again… until the prisoner tells him to wait. 

Back in Bozouls, a man believes he sees Sister Angelique, but she doesn't respond to his call. He follows her until she steps behind a building and pulls a gun on him. She doesn't kill him, though, and after she walks away he wonders who she was.

Using the name Brigitte Bardot, Philippe lets her into his apartment. Zayd (Ismael Berqouch) is there, too. She changes Philippe's bandage while he waxes poetic about religious zealots and silence. After some flirtatious banter, she reveals in conversation she's Angelique's sister, revealing her sister is dead because she's not like them; she couldn't handle what she was supposed to do. Philippe says all he asked was for her to make sure the convent was safe.

Spade (Clive Owen) wants to go for a swim, but Teresa (Cara Bossom) tells him the pool has been drained and is being cleaned after having a dead body in it. 

Henri (Oscar Lesage) walks in, retracing his steps because he's lost his notebook. Teresa asks if it's his little black book with the names of girlfriends in it. He tells her it's brown. They flirt, with her teasing she'll pick out a new one and write his name in it so he won't lost it again. Spade tells them to stop before he vomits his breakfast. Teresa says she's going to change, and Henri follows. 

Helena (Clotilde Mollet) comments Spade is unusually concerned for Teresa. She says Henri will protect her, but that's not enough for Spade. He follows as Teresa and Henri walk through a cemetery so she can place flowers on Gabrielle's grave. 

Back at Philippe's apartment, Zayd watches through the glass door as the woman bathes. Philippe teases him for being scared when a bug crosses the floor. He tells him that this was his mother’s apartment. It’s where they lived when he got back from Algeria. When the woman leaves the bathroom, she reminds him Zayd doesn’t understand what he's saying. After more stories from his childhood and the man his mother married, Philippe flirts with the woman. The phone rings and Philippe arranges a time to meet with the mysterious Mister Kahn.

When Spade gets home, he takes the painting from George down, searching the back for a wire and he doesn’t seem surprised when he finds one. While Helena vacuums he cuts another portrait open as well. Then, he goes to the phone and pretends to make a phone call to Patrice. He shushes Helena, who watches in confusion as he leaves a pretend message and then watches as George (Matthew Beard) and Cynthia (Rebecca Root) leave their house after intercepting the fake message. He takes the opportunity to go search their garage, where he finds a number of photos and a lot of surveillance equipment. 

Suddenly, George appears in the doorway with an ax. Spade thought he saw two people in the car but George says they were pretending. Spade asks if he's MI-5 or MI-6 but never gets an answer. George throws the ax with expert precision, missing Spade intentionally. It turns out George and Cynthia are also hunting for the boy, but they're actually tracking Teresa. They knew Angelique wasn't really a nun and that her parents had very colorful pasts. They also took notice of Spade. George mentions the boy and his numbers, wondering if Spade noticed anything else about it. When Spade moves to leave, George flips him over. Cynthia arrives, gun aimed at Spade. She invites him in for tea.

Tea and revelations

Jean-Pierre (Stanley Weber) is drinking away his troubles at the club. He's upset that he lost track of the boy after promising to keep him safe. 

Claude (Laurent Borel), the man who spotted Angelique earlier, knocks on Spade's door. Teresa answers and asks what's troubling the man. He admits he saw a ghost; his terror leads her to believe he's telling the truth. 

Cynthia and George tell Spade the boy has been passed around wealthy families since he was born. George shows him a photo of a woman. It's Angelique’s sister, Gazala (Inès Melab), who worked for the Algerian army. Spade wants to know about the numbers thing with the boy. They decide to trust him, revealing the boy can crack any code put in front of him and he can write his own code. That's why every government group wants him, along with every religion around. The churches believe he can prove the existence of God mathematically. At the core of it, they all believe this child could be the chosen one. Philippe is involved because he didn't kill Gazala, and she's the only one who has ever seen the boy and can authenticate his identity, so Philippe needs her. 

When Spade moves to leave, they stop him. Now that their secret has been exposed, they can't just let him walk away. However, Teresa comes driving down the road — or attempting to drive, as she doesn't know how — and Spade manages to slip away with her, much to the chagrin of Cynthia and George.

Je suis desole...

Marguerite wakes Jean-Pierre from another nightmare. She points out he has a gun in his hand, and he's immediately apologetic. He wants to tell her about the nightmares and what happened in Algeria, but he can't talk about it. Before she leaves for the club, he gives her a kiss. 

When she arrives at the club, though, she's greeted by Philippe, who asks if she knows who he is. Philippe tries to get under her skin with comments about Jean-Pierre, offering advice about him: if she loves him, then leave for Paris. Otherwise they'll end up miserable. He hopes her optimism about her marriage doesn't kill her.

Later, Philippe and Gazala are alerted to the sound of someone approaching. It's Spade, who gives himself away when he starts coughing after climbing the stairs. A man comes out of a doorway below him so Spade follows him, allowing Philippe to shut off the light inside. Spade goes down to the car and tells Teresa no one is inside and it's "a dead end." He suggests they go get a drink. 

At the club, Teresa plays with the musical instruments while Marguerite tells Spade that he's having trouble with Teresa because he dropped her off at a convent and left her there. Marguerite suggests Spade is actually Teresa's father. She makes a convincing argument, pointing out her mother probably forged her birth certificate to make the math fuzzier. Spade was already thinking it. 

Jean-Pierre arrives at Philippe's house to check on the boy. Evidently, Philippe brought him there when he was younger. Philippe tells him he was foolish to show up there and pushes Jean-Pierre down the stairs while Gazala and the boy watch. Jean-Pierre has a flashback of when he was in Algeria, of bursting up the stairs and shooting a man inside an apartment. There's a woman there and he tries to stop his fellow soldiers from harming her, but they pull him away. Back in the present, Gazala covers Zayd's eyes. "I'm sorry," Jean-Pierre says as Philippe shoots him.

Monsieur Spade airs Sundays at 9 pm ET/PT on AMC, and is available to stream the same day on AMC Plus.

Mayfair Witches season 2 plot

We don't have exact details about what's coming up in season 2, but we know that the season will pick up after the events of the first season. Rowan had just given birth to a baby after an accelerated pregnancy. She realizes that Lasher has been reborn in her baby and flees New Orleans in order to keep her baby safe.

Here's the first season description from AMC: "Based on Rice’s best-selling trilogy, Lives of the Mayfair Witches, the eight-episode series focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon, Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario), who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations."

Mayfair Witches season 2 cast

Alexandria Daddario will return for season 2 along with some fresh faces.

Daddario (The White Lotus) brings Rowan Mayfair to life. Daddario, who took a vampiric turn in in American Horror Story: Hotel, is now playing the new Mayfair Designee. Rowan doesn't know much about her birth family, but there's something going on and she aims to figure out what it all means.

During the Television Critics Association 2024 winter press tour, we learned about new cast members joining the show: Alyssa Jirrels (Fatal Attraction, Boo Bitch, This is the Year) as a series regular, Ted Levine (Big Sky, On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Tiny Beautiful Things) as a recurring guest star and Thora Birch (American Beauty, Hocus Pocus, The Walking Dead) as a guest star.

Here are details on their characters: "In Mayfair, Jirrels stars as Moira Mayfair, Rowan Fielding’s (Daddario) cousin and a mind reader, who blames the family and Lasher for the death of her sister Tessa. Levine stars as Julien Mayfair, Cortland’s (Harry Hamlin) father, a master manipulator and diabolical presence that haunts the family. Birch stars as Gifford Mayfair, a self-deprecating tarot card reader and wannabe-bohemian who lately spends a lot of time at her lake house."

Ben Feldman (Mad Men) will join the cast as a series regular. Feldman will play Sam "Lark" Larkin, Rowan's ex-boyfriend and the CEO of a genetics startup.

Monsieur Spade episode 4 begins in the past as Gabrielle (Chiara Mastroianni) meets with Jacques, who says he has to leave Bozouls. He's planning on going to Argentina, but she says he's not going there. She stands back and watches as people emerge all around out of the shadows, all of whom we've seen in Bozouls. They shoot him, but don't kill him. Not right away, anyway. They're leaving him to die an agonizing death.

Henri (Oscar Lesage) arrives in time to help Spade (Clive Owen) fight off the attackers, who were members of the French army. Helena (Clotilde Mollet) is there, too. Henri says he was nearby to help watch over Teresa (Cara Bossom). He didn't kill one of the attackers, so Spade tells Henri to go upstairs. 

The next thing we see is Spade lighting a cigarette in front of the attacker, who is now tied up in a chair. Spade explains he used to just throw bad guys out a window, but he's older and wiser so now he's going to ask questions. He finds out the man is Army Intelligence and that they were likely sent there to find out if Teresa could tell them where the boy might be since Philippe failed to deliver him. He was supposed to take the girl if they couldn't find the boy or Philippe. All he knows is the boy is special. Spade releases the man, who in turn says his group knows who Spade is. Spade insists that he's not their enemy, and he's not worried about them.

Nightmares of the past

Jean-Pierre Devereaux (Stanley Weber) is having nightmares about Algeria. He runs to the balcony, naked, and then comes to his senses and realizes a woman across the courtyard is staring at him. 

Marguerite (Louise Bourgoin), meanwhile, isn't in bed. Instead she is paying a visit to a dying man. Inside his room, she sees it's full of pictures of her. His first question is about Jean-Pierre. They have a long history based on the familiarity of their conversation. He was hoping for an easy goodbye. She tells the man, Denis — Jean-Pierre's father — no one loves him. He says she was too young to get married, but she reminds him she wasn't too young for him. He's been paying to keep tabs on his son and daughter-in-law. Denis admits he left his wife and son with nothing, but he needs his son to know he has clarity now that he will die with exactly what he lived with — nothing. Denis hopes his son will get over his hatred and live his life. 

Cynthia Fitzsimmons (Rebecca Root) and her son George (Matthew Beard) watch as Patrice (Denis Ménochet) and the police fish the body of one of the attackers from Spade's pool. She says they could hear the screaming from their house. Patrice asks Henri how many times he shot at them and Henri, an excellent marksman, insists he only shot once. However, the dead man was shot from behind, right through the back of his head. They think the accomplice may have killed him because he would have delayed his escape. Patrice tells Henri to call the base because this is one of their men, then he warns Spade about Bozouls not being the same as San Francisco. 

At the Algerians' house, a woman urges Samir (Hazem Hammad) to take Zayd (Ismael Berqouch) away; he's too big of a risk for their family.

Nightmares of the present

Jean-Pierre pays a visit to a blind friend. He recounts how during the way he encountered a kid in a village who aimed a shotgun at him on his second day in Algeria. The gun jammed so he took the gun and knocked the kid to the ground. Five years later he was captured, shot in both legs so he could be tortured. It turns out the kid he'd spared was the leader of the enemy unit. They share a meal, and the man thinks he's safe… until the leader offers him some tea. Instead of pouring them drinks, the man was held down while boiling water was poured onto his face. Even after all of that, he tells Jean-Pierre how he can understand "how hate both focuses and distracts" their purpose. They're supposed to be learning, but they never get it right. 

Later, Jean-Pierre studies old photos, including one of Gabrielle. He grabs his gun when he hears a noise in the apartment. Thinking it's Marguerite, he goes into the main room but she's not there. He goes down into the club and looks around. He almost shoots Samir and Zayd. Samir admits he doesn't know who the boy is, but he knows the Imam is looking for him and it's not for good. Jean-Pierre recognizes him as "the one they will all kill for."

After the body is taken away, Spade asks Henri why no one from the base seemed to be concerned about the dead soldier. Henri admits he's actually a higher-ranking officer who's keeping an eye on things, so Spade tells him to be honest with him moving forward. Before Henry leaves, Teresa thanks him for saving her life. She calls him Sir Lancelot. She asks if he's a spy, but he calls himself “an analyst.” She's asking lots of questions, particularly about her father being a member of the right-wing branch of the military. He promises to protect her. They share a kiss before he leaves. 

Jean-Pierre makes a phone call, telling the woman who answers the phone to pass along the message that he has the boy. 

Teresa goes to her grandmother's house. The door is unlocked, so she goes inside and looks at the many pictures all around. Audrey Saint-Andre (Caroline Silhol) walks in and Teresa asks her where her father might be, telling her people tried to kidnap her the night before. She's there to return the clothing Audrey sent her. Teresa knows she only did it because she wants access to Teresa's inheritance. Audrey is outraged, but Teresa reminds her she turned her back on her since arriving in France. Before she leaves, Teresa asks her grandmother to tell her father to get in touch with her.

Hidden signals and hidden messages 

George and Cynthia host Spade and Patrice for lunch. Patrice reassures Cynthia these murders are an aberration for Bozouls. George notices Spade checking out the high-powered antenna on the top of their home so he and his mother distract him with talk of buying a gun for protection. Spade isn't in favor of guns anymore, because odds are someone will be shot eventually. George, who earlier revealed he has some experience with weapons from the military, is very interested in guns. However, George only wants to talk about Spade. When Cynthia pats his hand, Spade jumps up from the table and asks to use the bathroom. 

He goes inside but quickly wanders around the side of the house where the satellite is connected. It goes into a garage that's all locked up, but he can hear a radio inside. Cynthia finds him and asks if he's lost. She mentions Gabrielle having an affair with her husband, and then they're both distracted by the sound of chimes coming from inside the garage. Spade leaves with Patrice, who is also curious about the contents of the garage. He knows they're hiding something. 

Jean-Pierre asks Marguerite where she's been. She says she was visiting Denis. Jean-Pierre, too, was keeping tabs on his father. She only went to see him to get the letters Jean-Pierre sent her, which Denis' man stole from her. She needed his father's help to get him out of the situation he was in, but Jean-Pierre points out that it was his father who put him there. He tells her he's made his own "deal" with the devil but doesn't say what it is. 

Samir hands off Zayd to a man who can protect him. The man guarding the Algerians' house was Saudi Arabian and he would have taken the boy for evil purposes. The man whistles a song familiar to the boy, who goes willingly to him.

Legendary gumshoe Sam Spade is back in action in Monsieur Spade. Twenty years have passed since his adventures in San Francisco, but he's the same wry detective we know and love. Here's what happened in the season premiere. 

The story begins...

The story begins with Spade driving down a road in the French countryside with a young girl in the back seat. He’s not in a hurry, taking the time to stop for a cigarette along the road before heading down to a house. He’s there to see Philippe Saint-Andre on behalf of his late wife, Brigid, who passed away. The little girl, Teresa, is their daughter. The woman who answers the door pulls a shotgun on Spade and tells him in angry French that her son was never married and the girl is not his daughter. 

Later, Chief of Police Patrice Michaud (Denis Ménochet) tells Spade that he’s not surprised that Philippe’s mother turned them away. He’s there doing business on behalf of Brigid, whom he knew “well enough so she trusted [him].” Michaud thinks they’re romantically linked but Spade’s past with Brigid is complicated and that’s why she asked him to help with her daughter. Michaud advises him to take the girl back to the US because her father is not the kind of man she should be left with, but that doesn’t deter Spade. 

Though he’s aloof in his ways, he still makes sure to care for the girl while she’s in his care, asking her about her doll while they’re stopped in a field for another smoke break. There he hears the bells of a church and notices that it’s about to rain. 

They get back into the car and continue on their way. By nightfall it’s still raining. Lightning strikes a tree ahead and sends it crashing down onto the road so quickly that Spade can’t stop. He crashes into it, damaging the car beyond repair. They’re forced to stay there for the night; when morning comes he finds Teresa tucked under his arm, sound asleep. He gets out of the car to see if he can fix it, and that’s when a Rolls Royce driven by a woman, Gabrielle (Chiara Mastroianni), who has a big German Shepherd riding shotgun. She offers them a ride. Thankfully she speaks English, and she and Spade hit it off right away.  

Eight years later

Spade, now eight years older, delivers flowers to the grave of Gabrielle Spade. Evidently he remained in France after his business transaction ended, and he clearly wasn’t alone. He married the charismatic woman who rescued him from the side of the road that day. And he also stayed in France. As he converses with a fellow mourner, it’s clear his French has improved greatly. She tells him Philippe Saint-Andre has returned. 

Later that morning, Spade goes for his physical. He’s smoking a cigarette while he’s getting a prostate exam, then he finds out that he’s in the early stage of emphysema and needs to quit smoking or it could be worse. He receives this news with his trademark dry wit. 

From the doctor he goes to the market, passing through the crowds of people. They all seem to know who he is. He’s a man about town. He pets dogs and smiles at children. From there he goes to the convent. Evidently he left Teresa to be raised by nuns, but he’s a frequent visitor. The other children and the nuns all know him. 

He spots Teresa sulking on her own, but Mother Superior (Martine Schambacher) calls him into her office. They make small talk about the new automated bells, then Spade asks about the children. He makes a hefty donation to the nuns, and she mentions that Teresa’s father is coming back to visit. Evidently Teresa’s grandmother, Madame Audrey Saint-Pierre, has been taking a renewed interest in her granddaughter. Spade wonders if the new interest has to do with a trust in Teresa’s name. Mother Superior says she’s confident that Teresa will forgive him for leaving her there, sooner or later. 

Home sweet home

Spade returns home and has a battle of wits with his housekeeper, Helena, who teases him about buying vegetables. He asks her to start locking the doors, and she, too, knows about Philippe’s return. He grabs the paper and retires to the study, where he starts to smoke a cigarette but thinks the better of it. He doesn’t sit long, instead moving to his bedroom to relax. 

He thinks back to years ago when Teresa was younger and playing in a field with Gabrielle’s dog. They follow behind. She reveals that Teresa’s father is blackmailing her because her husband was a French Nazi collaborator. Given the conflict in Algeria, exposing her could be lucrative. She reveals that he’s blackmailing a lot of people, and it could be dangerous for the residents of Bouzouls. He’s willing to help, but he’s in debt and needs his fee. She offers to pay him and stay with her in the carriage house while he gets Teresa where she needs to be. 

Later, he goes for a swim and is interrupted by George Fitzsimmons (Matthew Beard), who is looking for Gabrielle. Spade says he’s not selling the house, but that’s not what George is there for. He didn’t know she remarried. His father was a landscape painter and she allowed him to paint on the property. He’s hoping to do the same, now that he’s a painter, too. Spade welcomes the idea. 

That night he’s plucking feathers from a bird and listening to a news report about John F. Kennedy’s plans to put a man on the moon. “A man on the moon. What the hell for?” he asks himself. He’s distracted by a man who rides up on a motorcycle in the dark. He ends up falling asleep in a chair in the study, with Helena chastising him for spilling his wine on the rug. 

He goes outside and spots George painting, then he finds Jean-Pierre Devereaux (Stanley Weber) sitting there on his motorcycle. There’s tension between them and it’s tied to Jean-Pierre’s wife, Peggy (Louise Bourgoin). 

Spade isn’t interested in the business deal, but he ends up visiting Peggy in her club later that day. She hands off an envelope full of money to him. She notes that her husband thinks he stole the club and his wife, but that’s not how things are. It turns out she was the woman at the cemetery that morning, too. 

He meets with Patrice, who mentions the fight between Jean-Pierre and his wife. He, too, knows about Philippe Saint-Andre. They’re interrupted by a beggar and Spade gives him money but Patrice doesn’t. Patrice is concerned that they’ve discussed two men who want him dead before his breakfast arrived, and Spade isn’t concerned. 

Visitors in the night

On the way home, Spade passes by a motorcyclist who almost crashes into him. Is that the same person who was outside his house the night before?

Henri (Oscar Lesage) is waiting for him at the house. He’s in his military uniform and he tells Spade how his biggest challenge in the military is taking orders. Spade was never in the military, not because he’s against killing but because he likes to make those decisions on his own. He asks for Henri’s help keeping an eye on Philippe, who pledges to do whatever he can. 

That night Spade’s phone rings and it’s Philippe, who warns Spade to stay away from Teresa. While he’s on the phone, there’s the sound of a struggle and a gunshot. 

Spade recounts the story of the call to Patrice, who doesn’t seem surprised by the sound of the gunshot. He knows that Philippe won’t be found unless he wants to be found, so his suggestion is to wait and see what happens. Spade manages to convince Patrice to put some effort into finding Philippe in case he’s hurt someone. Philippe agrees after some arm twisting and a reminder about favors. 

From there, Spade heads to Philippe’s mother’s home. She hasn’t seen him, and she doesn’t expect to see him. They’re not on good terms, and even if there’s a chance her son could be hurt, she doesn’t care. He tells her he knows about the letters she took to Teresa, which gives her pause, but she still refuses to help. 

Before he goes to bed, he recalls a moment in time when he was at the club with Gabrielle. Philippe is there and the Devereauxs are watching them closely. Back in the present, Spade gets back up and heads to the club to see if Peggy knows anything about Philippe. She’s surprised he’s still involved with the whole thing after his history with Philippe, and Spade says that there’s a point when you can’t avoid getting involved because you can’t live it down.

Terror in the night

When he gets home, Spade notices that something is amiss. Teresa comes running toward him, begging him for help. Inside, he offers her a drink to take the edge off. She ran straight from the convent. She’s covered in her father’s blood; he’d been shot before he got there. He presses her for information about the people who shot her father. A monk was at the gate after her father left, asking to see Mother Superior. Everyone hid after that, but she ran to Spade for help. 

Spade leaves her to go to the convent, a concerned look on his face. He knows something is very wrong. Upon arriving, he doesn’t find Philippe, but he does find the nuns. They’ve been brutally murdered in front of the altar, posed at the feet of Mother Superior, who was shot in the head.

Episode 3 of Monsieur Spade starts out in Bozouls in 1955. Spade is talking to Philippe Saint-Andre (Jonathan Zaccaï) about why he’s been sent there. Philippe doesn’t believe the girl is his daughter, and Spade can’t handle listening to his stories and metaphors. He just wants to deliver the girl and return to the US; Spade presents a half million francs and tells Philippe to get out of town. But Philippe doesn’t want the money unless it’s what he deserves. They continue their battle of wills, with neither man backing down. Philippe leaves, but the battle isn’t over.  

The boy

Samir (Hazem Hammad) presents a young boy named Zayd (Ismael Berqouch) to a room full of Algerians: men, women and children. They’re in an apartment, too many in one space. The boy sees food and rushes to eat whatever he can grab. He’s starving. A woman notices that his clothing is expensive and that the boy is terrified. The men are afraid they could be deported if the boy is caught up in something. Samir shows them a gun that the boy was holding. 

Marguerite Devereaux (Louise Bourgoin) gets a message that someone is dying. She’s not interested, telling the man who delivered the message that he should hurry up and die. She returns to her apartment and finds that Jean-Pierre is in their apartment but the door is locked, which is an old habit, he says, from the war. Marguerite knows her husband is leaving soon, but she tells him she thinks they have a mouse problem. He tells her in return that he knows they never should have left Paris but here they are and she’s built a good life in Bouzouls. He leaves, but he takes his gun with him. Another old habit, she notes. 

The church steps in

Spade reports back to Gabrielle (Chiara Mastroianni) and tells her how Philippe didn’t back down. He uses a metaphor, which she picks up upon very quickly. She knows he might leave her, but she says she might leave him. He knows she’s ill because Philippe told her as much. That means they both might leave each other. “Sounds like every love story I’ve ever heard,” he says.

In the present, Spade is on a walk when Chief of Police Patrice Michaud (Denis Ménochet) pulls up and says that they have a meeting with the bishop. Back at the house, Teresa (Cara Bossom) is taking a swim, Henri (Oscar Lesage) is keeping a very close eye on her and George Fitzsimmons (Matthew Beard) presents his newest painting, which is a gift for Spade. He proposes hanging it up in the house but Helena (Clotilde Mollet) shuts him down, telling him to set it by the door. Only Monsieur Spade hangs things on the walls, she tells him. Once he’s gone, she gives her grandson some food and compliments him for taking his duty to Spade so seriously while also reminding Henri that Teresa is only 15. He knows that, and notes that he’s patient and she’ll be 18 eventually. 

Jean-Pierre gets off his bike and a group of men try to steal it, but when he flashes his gun they run away. He goes to an apartment and gives the man something he took from his home wants to trade it for money. Jean-Pierre plans on returning to Algeria again, but the older man doesn’t think it’s worth it. The man doesn’t give him as much money as he wants, but he ends up taking it. 

The bishop sees them, apologizing for his cold office. The temperature helps preserve the works of art adorning the wall. His name is Monsignor Clement, Vicar General. Spade asks if that’s like a Vice President. Patrice introduces Spade as a donor of the church. Monsignor Clement presents Father Morgan, who tells Spade he’s from New York City. “My condolences,” Spade replies drily. The clergy reveal they’ve captured the monk, who was badly injured. Patrice says the police should be on the case but the Monsignor says the monk is part of the church and therefore the whole investigation is over and will be handled by the church. Spade realizes that the church wants the boy, the church doesn’t want them to investigate any longer. Patrice storms out of the meeting and Father Morgan follows them, telling them that the monk’s name is Angelo and he’s part of a secret society within the church. The priest is there to track down the zealots. He insists he’s on their side.  

Playing dress up

Teresa is playing dress-up and she’s making a mess of Gabrielle’s old clothes. Spade bursts into the room and warns her that the music is too loud. Teresa compliments Gabrielle’s taste in clothing. She asks about Gabrielle’s first husband, but Spade wants to play a game of questions. She reveals that Philippe told her that the Algerian boy had money in his family and that Philippe was paid to protect him. 

Samir tells the group about the boy, and how he could be the Chosen One. They know the church would see him as a threat. He wants them to take the boy to Rodez, where he’ll be safe. While they talk, Zayd pulls out a notebook and starts writing numbers. The women reveal they had to buy the notebook because he ruined the walls with his numbers. The men say that he might be silent, but he’s speaking to them and they just need to learn how to listen. 

Marguerite is practicing at the piano when Chastain comes in and wants her to come with him to see the person who is dying. She agrees to do it the following night. 

Spade shows up at the doctor, asking for a favor. The doctor wants to listen to his chest before agreeing to anything, and he chastises Spade for not quitting smoking yet. Spade wants to know if Audrey Saint-Pierre (Caroline Silhol) is a patient. He’s hoping she might need an exam so he can find out if she knows where Philippe is. He can tell her that Teresa was “shot” to get her to talk. 

With a bang

After a tete a tete with the waiter at the restaurant, Jean-Pierre shows up and says that Gabrielle and his mother go way back, to the time they were both at an asylum. She went there after her first husband died. Jean-Pierre is trying to challenge the will that left everything to Spade. He says that he stole from Gabrielle because he needed money to pay Philippe to help him get out of the army. He’s going to leave Bozouls, but he wants to be sure his wife is cared for. When Spade coughs, Jean-Pierre says that he can just wait until Spade is dead, because it won’t be long. 

The doctor knocks at Audrey’s door. She wakes up from the couch and looks in the mirror, setting a photo of a girl on her dresser. He says he’s there for her monthly blood pressure check, but she insists it has been two weeks. He knows she’s been drinking and wonders if it’s because of Teresa. She says she doesn’t know anything about her. 

Spade returns and Teresa says she remembers when they met. It was very hot and she woke up on a plane with him. She asks about the trust fund and wonders if she can just stay with him. He says she’s going back to the convent as soon as it reopens. She says as soon as she turns 18 and has the money, she’s going to San Francisco to learn his secrets. He just smiles. 

The phone rings. It’s Philippe. He wants to know if someone shot at Teresa and if the boy is with him. Spade won’t speak to him unless it’s face to face, so they agree to meet that night at the cemetery. As he gets ready, Teresa puts the music on very loud. He sees her passport in his box of important papers, and he finds his old hat. 

At the cemetery, Spade looks around in the darkness, turning when every car thunders down the road. Soon he’s back at his car, realizing something is amiss. He heads home and runs to Teresa’s room. She is in bed, sound asleep. He’s relieved. Helena, thinking they’re being robbed, pulls a gun on him. Later, he jokes with her that she missed her shot to shoot him. What they don’t know is that the photo George put in the house is actually bugged. 

Helena says goodnight, but he hears a thud and realizes someone is in the house. He goes to find her and is attacked by a man. Another man goes to find Teresa. George and his mother listen as they continue to struggle and Teresa can be heard calling out for Spade. The episode ends with the sound of a gunshot. 

Monsieur Spade airs Sundays at 9 pm ET/PT, with new episodes available to stream the same day on AMC Plus.

Domino Day plot

The six-part series is set in modern day Manchester, England, and follows Domino Day (Siena Kelly) who spends her time on dating apps. But she isn’t looking for love, she’s swiping to hunt. Her strategy is to target the city’s unsavoury bachelors and fiercely suck the energy out of them.

Aware of her impressive but terrifying powers, Domino is desperate to find a community that can help her understand who she truly is. But what she doesn’t know is there’s a coven of witches hot on her heels, watching her every move and determined to stop her before she destroys everyone and everything around her.

Siena Kelly plays witch Domino Day who feels compelled to feed off the energy of others. 

"Domino is an extremely powerful witch who’s new to Manchester," says BAFTA nominee Siena Kelly, 28. "She has to feed, it’s not a choice. If she doesn’t, she will be drained of all energy and will eventually die. She knows what she’s doing is bad, so she justifies it by tactically picking men whom she thinks might be dangerous. 

"She doesn’t know what her full powers are, though, nor where her witchcraft comes from. She’s deeply isolated and searching for a community, but doesn’t realise she’s also being hunted. The biggest influence on Domino is Silas, but it’s a tricky, nuanced and toxic relationship in which he encourages her worst traits to grow.

"I really empathised with Domino in being desperate to change your situation but having absolutely no resources to change it. I also found the idea of being so powerful and not having realised it or not really understanding just how powerful she is really interesting and something that I wanted to explore. 

"The biggest influence on Domino is her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Silas, which isn’t a great relationship. He’s another witch and it’s a really tricky, nuanced and toxic relationship where he encourages her worst traits to grow. He’s also the first witch that she’s ever met so he’s her sole way into the witching world. He gets to be the person who influences her on witch politics, telling her what’s allowed and what’s not, what laws to follow, etc, which is a lot of power to have over somebody. They do love each other but it’s not a good or healthy relationship. 

"The next biggest relationship is the one she develops with Sammie, who’s another witch that’s a lot kinder than Silas. Sammie recognises that Domino is far more powerful than the other witches she knows and really wants her to grow and learn to control her powers and love herself. She wants Domino to recognise that she’s not an inherently bad person, which takes a while for Domino to realise, but she only realises it because of Sammie. Sammie is a brilliant, positive influence on Domino’s life. 

"And then there's the relationships she has with a few humans in her life, which are also very difficult relationships to navigate, because the humans don't know that she's a witch, so she has a lot of secrets with them. There's Leon, who is a man that she meets in a bar that she develops a really beautiful romantic connection and friendship with. There’s also Vedita, her boss in the café. They have a lot of chemistry together and they really enjoy each other’s company. But she knows she can’t really be her true self around both of them as they’re humans and she’s a witch. So there’s always a level that she can’t quite get to with them."

Who else is starring in Domino Day?

Domino Day also stars Poppy Lee Friar (Life and Death In the Warehouse, Ackley Bridge, In My Skin) as Geir who is part of the witches Coven alongside Babirye Bukilwa (We Hunt Together) as Sammie, Alisha Bailey (Call the Midwife, Strike) and Molly Harris (Industry as Kat, Monsoon).

Percelle Ascott says: "We meet Leon right at the start in episode one. He's not magical like the rest of the characters are but he has a good connection with Domino from the beginning. However, as their love begins to blossom there are people out there who aren’t a fan of their romance so as they’re trying to figure things out between them, and Leon gets caught up in the mess with Domino. 

"I think it was the first conversation I had with the director, Eva Sigurdardottir. As there are so many supernatural elements, she wanted to find a way to ground the show through my relationship with Domino. At the end of the day, it’s just a relationship and it was fun to explore how we can find the comedy within our relationship and take it away from all the other scenes that are so supernatural. I feel like the scenes you see with Leon are more stripped back, grounded and wholesome."

Can you give us an overview of Domino Day? 
Sam Howard-Sneyd says: "I’d describe it as the world of witchcraft meets the 21st century in the world of dating. So it's the problems that people can relate to maybe not in a magical sense, but in a metaphorical sense, and navigating that world of magic with the tricky task of navigating the 21st century as well. 

What kind of show is Domino Day and what makes it unique? 
Sam says: "What I love about the show is that it's led by these relationships and by the drama between the different people. It definitely has magic in it but I think it’s less for the sake of magic but more to show the relationships and to provide some tension and some drama to give you a window into people's true character and the way they have to change throughout the show and the way their relationships changed."

What are the show’s key themes? 
Sam says: "I think identity is a really big part of it. Power and our relationship with power. As well as what we choose as the important things in life. Also this idea of change. Whether we should be going with change or fighting against it. I believe change is the only constant that we have and some characters choose to fight against that and try keep things as is, whereas other characters try and move with it, and I think that's very interesting.."

Behind the scenes and more on Domino Day

Filming began on Domino Day on location in Manchester in March 2023. Domino Day is executive produced by Lucy Richer and Ayela Butt for the BBC, Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey for Dancing Ledge Productions and writer/creator Lauren Sequeira. Some episodes have been written by Charlene James and Haleema Mirza. 

Writer/creator Lauren Sequeira describes the show as ‘dark, sexy and deep’, and hopes young people will love it: "I’m a fan of the supernatural genre, and the Americans have done it so well with the likes of True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, etc. But I thought we needed our own show in the UK. I wanted to bring something vampiric to a witch show, and then place that witch in a dating app setting, where it's so transient and you’re constantly swiping onto the next. But I wanted the audience to be really afraid of Domino, then flip it. The supernatural elements of the show empower her. When guys think they can do terrible things to Domino, terrible things are done to them." 
 

Clive Owen breathes new life into Dashiell Hammett's iconic gumshoe Sam Spade in Monsieur Spade. 

The stylish new series, called "prestige TV" in our review, tells the story of Sam Spade some 20 years after the events of The Maltese Falcon. It's the 1960s and Spade finds himself in southern France, where his quiet retired life is interrupted by a horrific murder. What to Watch talked with Owen about the role and how he approached playing the iconic character originally brought to life in the 1941 film starring Humphrey Bogart. 

"I'm a huge Sam Spade fan," Owen said. "I'm a huge Bogart fan. I'm a huge fan of The Maltese Falcon. I've got an original poster from the movie. I love it so much. So when [co-creator] Scott [Frank] came to me, I was like, 'oh, this is a gift.' I love the genre."

We asked Owen if there were elements he felt were necessary to carry over to Monsieur Spade, and whether he put an original twist on any of it. 

"I know we're doing sort of a spin of years later, and he's living in a totally different environment," Owen replied. "But for me, it was really important to feel the origins of the source material. So I went back, I read the Dashiell Hammett book again and the short stories, and then I drowned in listening to Bogart. I needed an oral hook, really, because we were shooting in the south of France with mainly French actors, but I wanted to feel the origins of that 1940s private detective that we know. So I used Bogart, and listened to a lot of his dialogue from films and had that in my ears every morning on the way to work. And yeah, I adore this genre, really."

The idea of an "oral hook" was intriguing, as we noted Owen plays a masterful game of accent gymnastics in bringing Spade to life. In the series, he alternates between an American accent of the 1940s and 1960s, then he's an American speaking bad French and then, years later, he's an American with more experience with French. 

"Yeah, it's very, very true," he laughed. "It's a very good point. It was something we worked on a lot, and we worked on it a lot because there's a lot of flashbacks. I tried to make him different so that he was really classically 1940s when he first arrives there and has that vibe of the San Francisco private detective that we know. And then obviously things mellow as time goes on. But it was something I enjoyed working on."

Owen studied Bogart closely to help him bring his own version of Spade to life. "I went back and lifted all of Bogart's dialogue from both Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon just to have one file so I could hear him. And the interesting thing when you really look at Bogart and the way he spoke, you think of him as laid back and laconic, but he's actually super nimble and fast with his dialogue. He just makes it all look easy."

Bringing the character to life involved a combination of Owen's incredible acting and Scott Frank's scripts, which gave him a foundation to work with. "Bogart rips through the dialogue. He doesn't overindulge, he doesn't milk anything too much. It's all about rhythm and speed, and the speed of thought and wit," Owen continued. "And Scott, who's also, like me, a huge fan of this period and this genre, he could write in that vernacular. He wrote in those rhythms. 

"So I called him at one point and I said, 'Look, I’ve been watching a lot of it, and it's really, really important that when we do the longer scenes where there's lots of dialogue and it's speedy, I feel like I should never hang about. I think we should really rip through it.' And that’s something I worked on a lot because I'm doing an accent, but I wanted to be able to be really speedy with the dialogue. And so it's something we both worked on together to make sure that’s how we did it."

All of this preparation comes through brilliantly, as we've had a chance to screen the series in advance. "It's effortlessly witty, getting into the Sam Spade vibe without being overbearing," we said.

"I'm so happy you say that, because it's a big thing for me," Owen replied. "And I really do think Scott is one of the best writers out there. You go back and look at films like [1957's] The Sweet Smell of Success and it's an absolute joy to listen to. Smart, witty dialogue where everybody tops everybody, where somebody says something and somebody's got a smart response back. It's a joy. And Scott, I think, nailed that in [Monsieur Spade]. And the dialogue was great. We found time and time again that when we put pace on it, it really sang. And the great thing is when you're working with writing like this, you just trust it. You trust the rhythms are there. You don't overwork it. You don't try to find a spin on it. You just go, this play, you read it. The rhythms are right. Just play that rhythm. Don't get in the way of it."

Lastly, we asked about how so many detective stories were serialized in the 30s and 40s, even dating back to Sherlock Holmes. The limited series format seems to work really well with Monsieur Spade. 

"I think it was important," Owen noted. "It was this length because, as we've said, Scott's writing is so smart and full, and we've got so many characters here to get underneath. And the great thing is they all have backstories and they're all interesting. They've all got reasons and predicaments of how they've ended up where they are. And we can explore all of it. So it's full of rich characters throughout. We don't just get to know Spade, we get to know the world he's living in and the people that are around him and who they are. And that really lends itself to making it this long."

Monsieur Spade premieres Sunday, January 14, at 9 pm ET/PT on AMC. It will also be available to stream same-day on AMC Plus and Acorn TV.

Legendary gumshoe Sam Spade lives on through Clive Owen in the new limited series Monsieur Spade, coming January 14 to AMC, AMC Plus and Acorn TV. Monsieur Spade is prestige television at its finest, as it brings the early 1960s to life in the south of France with one of modern literature's most memorable characters. 

Monsieur Spade is a visual delight, full of nods to the source material, 1934's The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. It's utterly charming and brilliantly witty, with a fast-paced story that moves quickly without sacrificing the delicious details that make this series so special. 

I had a chance to watch the six-episode limited series ahead of the premiere. The story follows Sam Spade as he ends up in Bozouls, France. What was supposed to be a brief trip turns into the famed detective's retirement. His quiet life is interrupted by the brutal murder of six nuns at the local convent and the return of an enemy he never thought he'd see again. 

Clive Owen is utterly magnificent in his portrayal of Sam Spade. Owen leans heavily into the character, delivering every line with a straight face and scorching wit. He plays a masterful game of accent gymnastics, alternating between an American accent of the era to an American speaking bad French and ultimately to an American speaking decent French. 

Spade quickly establishes his presence in Bozouls as he works to deliver his young charge, Teresa (Cara Bossom), to her family. He meets Chief of Police Patrice Michaud (Denis Ménochet) and a mysterious woman who captures his attention and, eventually, his heart. The supporting cast of characters is phenomenally and fully dimensional; each of the characters has plenty of space to tell their own stories so that Sam Spade's investigation becomes all the more interesting — and complicated. 

Co-creators, writers and executive producers Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit) and Tom Fontana (Oz) give their talented cast plenty to work with. You can see that they've really invested the time in understanding how to bring this older, perhaps wiser and definitely more world-weary version of Sam Spade to life. The dialogue is crisp and sharp, whether it's in English or in French. While the series is mostly in English, there is quite a bit of French spoken but the subtitles aren't distracting, and watching Owen's Spade struggle with his limited French is a lot of fun.

It's impossible to watch Monsieur Spade and not be swept away by the stunning visuals. 1960s France comes to life in spectacular detail, but in a way that seems utterly effortless; if you didn't know better, you might think the series was filmed in 1963 and not 2023. 

Funnily enough, AMC is now home to two series set in France featuring iconic characters who must deal with language barriers, caring for young people and the shocking death of nuns at the local convent. But when they feature the same combination of bilingual dialogue, amazing locations and landscapes, and are incredibly entertaining, we can forgive the coincidental overlap between Monsieur Spade and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

Whether you're a Sam Spade fan or not, Monsieur Spade has something for everyone to enjoy in this brilliant series that's sure to be an awards show darling.

There's never been a shortage of witches and witchcraft on television, from Charmed to American Horror Story: Coven —  even Hallmark Channel got into the fun with Good Witch — but Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale is a refreshing new series that features less witchcraft and more crime drama in a surprisingly human story. 

Witches are no stranger to Sundance Now's parent company, AMC Networks, which boasts both A Discovery of Witches and Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches in its stable of dramas, which also includes zombies and vampires. Though Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale stands on its own two feet because unlike ADOW and Mayfair Witches, Sanctuary's witches live openly in a world that accepts witchcraft — albeit begrudgingly, in some cases. Ironically, Sanctuary is more similar to The Walking Dead in the sense the real evil in the world has nothing to do with magic or zombies — it's other people. 

Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale is based on the book by V.V. James about a community called Sanctuary where witches can live openly and don't have to hide their abilities. Sarah (Elaine Cassidy) is a witch whose family has lived in Sanctuary for more than 300 years. Her best friend Abigail (Amy De Bhrún) is not a witch, but has always been very supportive of Sarah and her abilities. However, when Abigail's son Daniel (Max Lohan) dies in a freak accident at a party, all of a sudden Sarah's daughter Harper (Hazel Doupe) comes under scrutiny. 

Harper has never been interested in following in her mother's footsteps as a witch, but the teen has a history with Daniel that her mother isn't fully aware of. There's also a lot Abigail doesn't know about her son, including the existence of a sex tape with Harper. But she's convinced that Harper — and witchcraft — are to blame for her son's death. Thus begins a tale of a woman's quest to seek vengeance against her former friend whether or not the facts of the case support her misguided beliefs. 

The resulting story that plays out over the seven episodes is one that's very human: a mother's grief turning into rage. Abigail’s rage turns her into a vile monster who cruelly targets the "outsider" in the community, stopping at nothing until she destroys her perceived nemesis. 

Interestingly, the resulting investigation and witch hunt overshadows the supernatural elements of the show. On one hand, it's refreshing to see that witches have been accepted into Sanctuary's society (there is a succinct explanation for it in the first episode) and they live their lives like everyone else, which works well for the crime drama. On the other hand, witchcraft takes a backseat to the story, so anyone hoping for a more mystical tale might be disappointed. The few times Sarah is seen practicing magic, it's beautiful and effortless, as easy for her as breathing. 

Cassidy and De Bhrún are superb as protective and grieving mothers, former friends now pitted against each other. The story moves quickly, with seven tight episodes that move the action along without sacrificing key information. 

As new series go, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale seduces you early on and doesn't let go until the thrilling end.

Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus) brings Rowan Mayfair to life. Daddario, who took a vampiric turn in in American Horror Story: Hotel, is now playing the new Mayfair Designee. Rowan doesn't know much about her birth family, but there's something going on and she aims to figure out what it all means.

Tongayi Chirisa (iZombie) plays Ciprien, a new character to the mythology. Ciprien works for the Talamasca, a benevolent organization of scholars who study paranormal activity. He is a blend of two characters that are in the books but don't appear to be in the series: Aaron Lightener and Michael Curry. His role is to protect Rowan from her family.

Harry Hamlin (L.A. Law) brings Cortland Mayfair to life. Cortland wasn't as big of a presence in The Witching Hour as his father, Julien Mayfair, but there's no question that Hamlin's Cortland will play a larger role in the series.

Jack Huston (House of Gucci) plays the mysterious spirit Lasher, a being who has been with the Mayfair family for generations. He has his sights set on Rowan, and he won't let anyone get in his way until he has her.

Beth Grant (Dollface) is Carlotta, Rowan's evil aunt. Though she believes she's acting in everyone's best interest, Carlotta is a meddler who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Jen Richards (Mrs. Fletcher) is Jojo, Cortland's daughter. Since she grew up in her father's house, Jojo has her eyes wide open to Carlotta's interfering ways and she's dead-set on helping Rowan navigate the complex Mayfair family circles.

Hannah Alline (Doom Patrol) plays Suzanne, the first Mayfair witch who lived in Scotland centuries ago. Though she's long dead, her legacy lives on and understanding what happened to her helps viewers as they watch Rowan trying to find her place in the Mayfair family.

Veterans Day is a time to celebrate the brave men and women of the military who have given their lives in service of their country. This Veterans Day, AMC Networks pays tribute to World War II veterans and members of the Armed Forces far and wide with a Band of Brothers TV marathon.

Band of Brothers follows the incredible true story of Easy Company of the US Army 101st Airborne Division. The team parachuted behind enemy lines on D-Day to support the troops who were landing on the beach. Over the course of their time in the war, they served in several key fights and helped to liberate a concentration camp. WTW ranked the miniseries as one of our best TV shows of all time. 

The marathon begins at 10 am ET/PT on Saturday, November 11, with all 10 episodes airing in order on AMC. Here's the complete schedule:

Shazad Latif is set to star as Captain Nemo in Nautilus. This is certainly one of the actor's most noteworthy roles, though viewers may recognize him from movies like What's Love Got to Do With It?, The Commuter and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, as well as TV series Star Trek: Discovery, Penny Dreadful and Toast of London.

Other cast members include Georgia Flood (American Princess), Thierry Fremont (Luther) and Céline Menville (Emily in Paris), while Richard E. Grant (Saltburn), Anna Torv (The Last of Us) and Noah Taylor (A Small Light) are tapped as guest stars in the series.

Nautilus plot

Nautilus is inspired by the classic Jules Verne story, with the specific goal of telling the origin story of Captain Nemo, who AMC's press release describes as "an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him."

James Dormer (Strike Back) created the 10-episode series.

"Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes," said Ben Davis, executive vice president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. "We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC Plus and AMC as a special television event next year."

"We are so thrilled to present the epic adventures of Captain Nemo and his legendary submarine The Nautilus alongside the other incredible AMC universes," added show producers Xavier Marchand and Anand Tucker. BlackBerry, the world's first smartphone, had a bit of a comeback in 2023 as the BlackBerry movie became one of the best-reviewed new movies of the year. Unfortunately, it didn't have the best run in movie theaters. But more people are going to have the chance to see it now as the BlackBerry movie is getting its cable debut, set to air on AMC and reconfigured as a three-part limited series.

BlackBerry is going to premiere on AMC and AMC Plus on Monday, November 13, and air over three nights.

Described as a dramedy, BlackBerry tells the story of the meteoric rise and catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone and stars Jay Baruchel as Mike Lazaridis and Glenn Howerton as Jim Balsillie, the executives who led BlackBerry when it became an almost ubiquitous product. Also starring in the movie are Matt Johnson, Rich Sommer, Michael Ironside, Saul Rubinek and Cary Elwes. 

Based on Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff's book Losing the Signal, the script was written by Matt Johnson and Matthew Miller, with Johnson also serving as the director.

The movie originally premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, then premiered in the US at the South by Southwest Film Festival. The movie is "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 98% as of October 23. One of the highlights critics called out was It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Howerton, who gives a very different kind of performance as Balsille, one that critics called "ferociously good." General audiences also loved it, as the movie has a 94% positive audience score on the site.

Anyone with a cable pay-TV subscription or live TV streaming service (DirecTV, Philo TV, Sling TV, YouTube TV) that carries AMC can watch the three-night event when it premieres. The other option is to sign up for AMC Plus, where it will simultaneously be available to stream, with a monthly subscription costing $4.99 per month with ads or $8.99 per month ad-free; a free trial is available when you sign up. You can also add AMC Plus as an add-on channel on various digital services, including Prime Video.

Sam Spade is back in action with the new AMC series Monsieur Spade. The famed detective who took center stage in Dashiel Hammett's 1930 novel The Maltese Falcon is now retired and living in Southern France, but when a group of nuns is murdered he is called back into action. 

The series stars Clive Owen (Children of Men) as titular hero Spade. Owen also serves as an executive producer on the limited series, which was co-created, written and executive produced by Emmy Award-winners Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit, Logan, Minority Report) and Tom Fontana (City on a Hill, Borgia, Oz). Frank also serves as the series' director.

Interview with the Vampire will be winging its way to BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

The Beeb has acquired the acclaimed seven-part series from AMC. And whilst they haven't confirmed a UK release date for Interview with the Vampire season 1, we at least now know that the series has finally found a UK home after premiering in the US last October. 

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, said of the show: "Interview with the Vampire is a sumptuous, sensual, complex and disturbing treat. Anchored by the charismatic lead performances of Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid, the series stays true to the gothic spirit of Anne Rice's eternally popular novels, whilst sympathetically re-imagining her world for a new generation."

Interview with the Vampire is based on the Anne Rice novel of the same name, and is the first project in AMC's Anne Rice TV Universe. The show follows Louis de Pointe du Lac, Lestat de Lioncourt, and the younger vampire, Claudia in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century. 

The full synopsis for the series is: "It follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and Claudia (Bailey Bass) and their epic story of love, blood and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Chafing at the limitations of life as a Black man in 1900s New Orleans, Louis finds it impossible to resist the rakish Lestat’s offer of the ultimate escape: joining him as his vampire companion. But Louis’ intoxicating new powers come with a violent price, and the introduction of Lestat’s newest fledgling, the child vampire Claudia, soon sets them on a decades-long path of revenge and atonement."

In our Interview with the Vampire review, we described the series "an inspired new vision" and "an absolute feast for the senses" and called it "prestige television at its finest". As a further mark of quality, the show was renewed for a second season a week before the first originally premiered last year. And we know that Interview with the Vampire season 2 will see some of our cast journeying to Europe and crossing paths with an immortal troupe of Vampires in Paris.

Things pick up the morning after Colton (Nicholas Logan) escaped. He walked through the night and arrives at B.J.Vines' (John Henry Diehl) sprawling estate. Vines spots him and comes outside, gun in hand. Shivering, injured, bloody and barely standing Colton asks Vines if he knows who he is. Vines looks at him for a long moment, then lowers his gun. 

Inside the house he gives Colton water, food and new warm clothes. Vines gives Colton $5,000 and walks him out. He tells Colton that two miles down the path there's a car in a shed ready to drive. Vines gives Colton the key and sends him on his way. 

Colton slowly starts walking. Vines shoots him in the back. Colton falls. Vines approaches him and takes back the money and the key. Colton dies. Vines goes back into his house. 

Chee confronts Vines

Later that day at the Vines' estate, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) knocks on the door. A maid answers. As Chee is talking to the maid, B.J. Vines pulls into the courtyard in a Land Rover. Vines asks Chee if he's caught Rosemary (Jeri Ryan) cheating. Chee tells him no, but also that Tomas Charley warned him that Vines was a witch. Chee calls Vines out for using Navajo spiritual practices. 

While he's talking Vines pulls a shovel out of the car and gives it to a gardener. Vines tells Chee to call off the investigation and pulls cash out of his coat to pay Chee. There's blood on some of it. Chee refuses to take the money, so Vines drops it on the ground. 

Connecting the dots

On the reservation Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Henry (Joseph Runningfox) are driving. Leaphorn tells Henry his theory that Vines, and the burned report, are connected to the explosion that killed Joe Jr. He says the only way Vines could have gotten the report was if Dylan Charley gave it to him. He theorized Dylan, who worked for Drumco, was secretly giving information to Vines. 

When Emerson Charley found out he had cancer, he sent Tomas to steal the box and get the report so he could tell the police about it. But Vines killed him, and Tomas, to protect his secret. 

Leaphorn takes Henry to the site of the oil well explosion. Henry finds pieces of Colton's signature blue wire. Joe now has proof that Colton was responsible for his son's death. 

Meanwhile, in his hotel room, Chee digs through the bag the maid left for him at the previous night's gathering. It was full of Tomas Charley's belongings. Chee finds money and an ID. Then he finds a camera with film in it. When he gets the film developed there are photos of Tomas and Rosemary.

Chee takes the photos to the police station to show them to Bernie (Jessica Matten) and Leaphorn. One of the photos from Tomas Charley's camera is of the report that was in the box that Colton burned. 

When Leaphorn compares the photo of the document with the fragments of the burned document and the document Bernie got from the state of Arizona, he finds they're different. 

The photo Tomas took shows the document that was burned indicated there was uranium found at the site of the Drumco well. The document filed with the state of Arizona said there wasn’t uranium found. Vines doctored the report so that Drumco would sell him the land for cheap. 

Leaphorn tells Natalie (Natalie Benally) to call Sena (A Martinez) and tell him to get a warrant for B.J. Vines. Chee, Bernie and Leaphorn take the evidence they've found and race to the Vines' estate where Leaphorn arrests B.J.

Justice for Joe Jr.

That night at the Leaphorn home, Sally's (Elva Guerra) baby laughs for the first time, which is a milestone in the Navajo culture. Emma says they must have a ceremony for the baby. Leaphorn hears on the news in the background that B.J. Vines was released on bail. 

Cut to the Vines house later that night, where B.J. is in his pajamas and robe having a drink. Leaphorn breaks into his house and confronts him. He kidnaps B.J. and drives him miles into the interior of the reservation. Leaphorn tells Vines about The Long Walk. 

The Long Walk killed 200 Navajo who were forced to walk barefoot without food or water across the desert. Leaphorn tells Vines he wants the spirits of those Navajos to be the last thing Vines sees. He forces Vines out of the truck at gunpoint. Then he leaves Vines barefoot, in only a robe and pajamas, in the freezing barren desert. Vines eventually dies of exposure.

Leaphorn goes home. In his workshop he melts down Joe Jr.'s belt buckle. He remolds the metal into a beautiful bright metal feather. 

Balance returns

The next day they hold the first laugh ceremony for Sally's baby. After the ceremony, Bernie tells Leaphorn she is taking the Border Patrol job. Sally is ready to move on also. The day after the ceremony she packs her things, and the baby, and slips out leaving a thick letter for the Leaphorns.

In a black and white with a flashback, a young Colton (MG Barnes) rides his bike. He arrives home and goes inside to find his father dead in a chair in front of the TV. His sister, Jane, is dead too. She's slumped over the piano where she was practicing. 

The only color in the scene is red: Colton's red jacket, the red blood he sees on his father and his sister, and his mother's (Melissa Christopher) red nails holding the gun she used to shoot them. Colton, horrified, slowly takes the gun from his mother's hands as she sits sobbing on the floor apologizing. The metronome clicks in the background.

In his cell, adult Colton (Nicholas Logan) continues to softly tap his finger in a soothing manner. Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), with his arm in a sling, stares at Colton.

The clock starts

Sena (A Martinez) shows up with orders to transport Colton. Leaphorn asks Sena to give him just a little more time, he wants to question Colton about the Drumco explosion that killed his son. Sena doesn't want to, but he gives Leaphorn six hours to search Colton's trailer and question him. Leaphorn tells Officer Felix (Wade Adakai) to search the trailer for anything that links Colton to Drumco while he starts his questioning. 

New job

At the trading post, Chee (Kiowa Gordon) sits in his car, following Rosemary Vines (Jeri Ryan). He’s approached by Roger (Earnest Tsosie III), who tells him that Leaphorn captured Colton. Chee leaves and heads for the jail.

He bursts into the jail and stares at Colton. He notices a letter on Bernie's (Jessica Matten) desk. The letter is a job offer from the Border Patrol. Chee asks her if she got a new job. Before she can answer him, Leaphorn comes in and asks Chee if he wants to help interrogate Colton. However, Chee opts not to.

Later, Chee brings Bernie a gift of some pinyon nuts. Bernie invites Chee inside because the eclipse is starting, and everyone is supposed to be inside to observe it. He asks her about the border patrol job and she explains she doesn't really want to leave, but she feels like her career options are limited if she stays.

The interrogation 

In the interrogation room, Colton is still tapping his finger, so Leaphorn taps his pen in an opposite rhythm to put Colton on edge. Colton is not intimidated by Leaphorn, refusing to give his real name, any information about who he works for or his connection to Drumco.

In a book recovered from the trailer, Leaphorn finds the name Deloyd Webster (Tank Jones). He's the private investigator Colton met with that he didn't kill. Leaphorn brings him in and Deloyd tells Leaphorn that Colton hired him to find Colton's mother, Linda Maddox. 

Leaphorn sends Deloyd into the interrogation room to tell Colton that he found his mom. He says her name isn't Maddox anymore, it's Maguire, which is why Colton couldn't find her before. Deloyd tells Colton if he wants to see his mom again, he has to cooperate with Leaphorn. 

Mary Landon finds a way in

At the house, Emma (Deann Allison) is hosting a gathering of women. One of Emma's coworkers, Helen (DezBaa') brings reporter Mary Landon (Jacqueline Byers). Emma at first refuses to let her stay, but the women in the group vote to let her stay. Mary promises she's just there to listen.  

Colton is still playing games

Deloyd manages to get a name from Colton, telling Leaphorn that Colton was hired by someone named Le Bec. Leaphorn tells Officer Natalie (Natalie Benally) to have Bernie bring in Guy Atcitty (Ryan Begay) as soon as the eclipse is over. 

Leaphorn gets a call back from the sister of Le Bec, who tells him Le Bec died several years ago. When Bernie brings in Guy Atcitty, he asks why Leaphorn wanted to talk to him. Leaphorn explains he wanted to ask about Le Bec, but figures it pointless with Le Bec dead. However, Guy says Le Bec isn't dead. He points to Colton and says he is Le Bec. 

Leaphorn confronts Colton, but Colton taunts him once he figures out that Leaphorn is fixated on the explosion because it killed his son.

The People of Darkness

Chee follows Rosemary Vines and her maid to the reservation as darkness falls. She's going to a gathering of the People of Darkness. Chee hides his face and head and mixes in with the other participants. There is drumming, peyote and faith healing led by B.J. Vines (John Henry Diehl). 

While Rosemary asks B.J. to heal her, the maid slips into a hut and comes out with a backpack. Chee finds her and asks what she's doing. Together they sneak out of the meeting with the backpack. Chee tries to go back for Rosemary. But he can't get close to her. The maid slips away but leaves the bag behind for Chee.

Colton escapes again

There is another flashback of young Colton and his mother. There's a gunshot, but it's not clear who was shot. At the jail, Sena and his officers take custody of Colton. They load him into a police vehicle and drive away. 

Later at home, Leaphorn gets a call. He races out to the site of an accident. It's Sena's police vehicle, upside down. Sena is alive but badly hurt. Colton is gone.

After three episodes, Dark Winds brings viewers back to the opening scene from episode 1 where Bernie (Jessica Matten) and Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) approach Colton's (Nicholas Logan) trailer. Leaphorn radios to have a dispatcher call Detective Sena (A Martinez) to back them up. Sena is at least two hours away, but Leaphorn isn't going to wait.

Colton sees them approaching. He turns out the light and slips out through a secret exit as Leaphorn bangs on the trailer door. As Leaphorn and Bernie head into the trailer with guns drawn, Colton grabs a hidden gun, goes to Leaphorn's vehicle and turns on the light. Then he opens fire.

Leaphorn and Bernie are pinned down. When the gunfire stops they run outside, but Colton is already fleeing in Leaphorn's vehicle. He drives around a bend as they follow, firing shots. Colton crashes the vehicle and runs off. 

Bernie wants to wait for backup, but again Leaphorn refuses to wait. Together the two plunge into the darkness after Colton.

The canyon

They pursue Colton up into the rocky outcroppings on some hills. Colton again pins them with gunfire then runs. Leaphorn gets a clear shot as Colton runs up to a ridge overlooking a canyon. Leaphorn demands Colton surrender, but as he approaches Colton jumps off the ridge, rolling into the canyon far below. Bernie tells Leaphorn they can't follow him, but he isn't listening. He jumps, like Colton, falling into the dark canyon.

Leaphorn awakens as daylight breaks. He's badly injured. His head is bleeding in multiple places and his arm is broken. He splints his arm with a branch and his belt and continues tracking Colton. 

Bernie is waiting at the trailer for Sena and his police squad. When Sena pulls up with a horse trailer, he and Bernie ride out to look for Leaphorn. 

Sally feels trapped

At the health center, Emma (Deanna Allison) takes Sally's son into his hearing check while Sally (Elva Guerra) sits in the waiting room. There she meets reporter Mary Landon (Jacqueline Byers), who is still hanging around trying to talk to Emma. Mary talks a little to Sally about her baby and her life. But when Emma comes out and sees Mary with Sally, she rushes Sally to leave. 

At home, Sally tells Emma she's grateful for all Leaphorn and Emma have done, but she is resentful of the baby. She resents getting pregnant and doesn't want to be a mother. Sally seems like she's saying she wants to give the baby up.

The march

Colton, taking a break because he is also injured and weak, scans the area with binoculars looking for signs he's being followed. He doesn't see any tracks besides his own. However, Leaphorn is able to sneak up on him and kick him hard in the head, knocking Colton out. When he comes to, Colton is handcuffed on his stomach with a thick rope around his neck. Leaphorn is holding the end of the rope. 

He tells Colton to get up and march. When Colton tries to run, Leaphorn snaps the rope taut, jerking Colton's neck. At one point Colton complains he needs a break because he sprained his ankle. Leaphorn makes him remove the boot from his sprained foot. Then he jerks Colton up by the rope and makes him start walking again.

Throughout the long trek, Colton tries to get into Leaphorn's head. He says Leaphorn is too injured to survive this forced march to the jail. Leaphorn remains stoic. But they're both injured, dehydrated and struggling to stay upright. 

At one point, Leaphorn sits Colton under a tree, then winds the rope around the tree. When Leaphorn gets close to Colton to gag him, Colton kicks him in the face. Leaphorn pulls the rope taut and leverages the weight of the tree to choke Colton unconscious. When Colton awakens, Leaphorn forces him to get up and walk again. 

As they limp through the snow Colton makes one more attempt to escape. He runs from Leaphorn and manages to get his bound hands in front of him so he can free himself from the rope. Leaphorn tracks him down again, but Colton attacks, dragging him painfully by his broken arm and trying to kill him.

Leaphorn manages to kick Colton in the face and get on top of him, putting his gun in Colton's face. Bernie rides up and the two of them take Colton to the police station.

Chee in the middle

At a hotel, Chee (Kiowa Gordon) is visited by Rosemary Vines (Jeri Ryan). She wants to talk to him but when Chee mentions that Tomas Charley is dead, she gets very upset and leaves abruptly. She sits in her car crying. 

Just after Rosemary leaves, B.J. Vines (John Diehl) bursts into Chee's room. He accuses Chee of having an affair with Rosemary. Chee assures B.J. Rosemary just wanted to talk business. Then B.J. wants to hire Chee to follow Rosemary and find proof she’s cheating on him. Chee declines.

Later, Rosemary and B.J. are having a tense dinner. He gives her a necklace inscribed with "Fidelis." Menacingly he puts it on her. Rosemary flinches when he's near her and it's clear the necklace is more of a threat than a gift.  

Colton in custody

At the police station, everyone is shocked at Leaphorn's appearance. He's seriously injured, covered in blood and barely standing. Colton is also covered in blood. Trapped, Colton taps his finger on the cell door in the rhythm of the ticking clock to soothe himself.

Joe (Zahn McClarnon) desperately tries to drag Chee (Kiowa Gordon) to the road to find help. Even though the gunshot wasn't fatal, Chee is bleeding badly. When Joe finally gets Chee to the road a trucker stops to help.

The suspect, Colton Wolf, (Nicholas Logan) was wounded when Joe shot at his vehicle. He goes back to the trailer to sew up his wounds. Later he plants a bomb inside one of the creepy dolls filling the trailer. Colton boxes it up with a bow. He leaves the box outside of the Charley home.

Colton also calls the hospital, pretending to be an FBI agent. He tells the nurse he needs to interview Chee about his injuries. The nurse gives him Chee's room number. What is he up to?

Emma keeps Navajo traditions alive

Emma (Deanna Allison) is trying to keep Joe and everyone close to her grounded in Navajo traditions and beliefs. She insists the family needs a ceremony because they are surrounded by so much unnatural death. She helps Sally (Elva Guerra) learn the ways of a Navajo mother by teaching her Navajo stories that Sally can teach to her son. 

At the health center, Emma tells women they should have their babies at home, because doctors at health centers for indigenous people were secretly sterilizing indigenous women. That's not just part of the story; indigenous women were sterilized as part of The Family Planning Services and Population Research Act of 1970. Mary Landon (Jaqueline Byers), a reporter from Los Angeles, comes to the Indian Health Center to speak with Emma about it, but Emma refuses to talk to her.  

A big choice for Bernadette

When Chee is ready to make a statement, Joe sends Bernie (Jessica Matten) to take it. Chee apologizes for how things went down at the cave in season 1, but Bernie has moved on. 

Latter, she receives a letter saying she's been selected for an interview with the Border Patrol in Arizona. When she tells Joe he's not happy and wants her to stay. But she tells him that there's no future there. She wants the chance to move up the ladder in her career. Joe supports her, but it's clear he doesn’t want to lose another person he considers family.

The Charley's connection to the People of Darkness

After finding JJ's belt buckle, Joe goes to see B.J. Vines (John Diehl), who is central in this mystery. Vines is uncooperative. He questions why Joe is even involved when his wife, Rosemary (Jeri Ryan), only hired Chee. 

Vines tells Joe he knew Dillon Charley, the head of Indian church, and his family. Whatever is going on, the Charley family is intimately involved somehow. 

Still trying to make the connection between Vines and the People of Darkness, Joe meets with Gordo Sena (A Martinez). Sena gives Joe a copy of the police report Vines' filed detailing the contents of the box. Sena tells Joe to talk to his father about the People of Darkness.

Reluctantly, Joe visits his parents. Joe's father, Henry Leaphorn (Joseph Runningfox), also used to work for the tribal police. Henry tells Joe the People of Darkness were "peyote freaks" who broke Navajo laws and went rogue. Then he tells him to talk with Margaret (Betty Ann Tsosie) to find out more.

Margaret explains Dillon Charley was the founder of the People of Darkness. They brought outsiders in and sold the experience of having vision quests and participating in sacred ceremonies. She thought the group had died out when he did. But Joe knows that's not the case. 

When Joe visits Chee in the hospital he asks exactly what Rosemary told him about the box and the connection to the People of Darkness. Chee says Rosemary thinks Dillon Charley gave something to Vines, but Emmerson Charley wanted it back. Emmerson sent his son Tomas to steal it. Then Emmerson was killed.

New information shakes Joe to his core

Joe takes Bernadette to the site where he and Chee found the buckle and bag up the other items there. Bernie finds some burned papers that have the Drumco logo on them. They also find Tomas Charley, dead in a ravine. 

Bernadette and Joe go to Tomas' home. His son, Benny (Jet James), is there alone, sitting with the wrapped box Colton left at the house. Benny thinks Tomas has left the box. When Joe helps Benny open the box he sees a wire from the bomb. He tells Bernie to get Benny out of there and to send for Henry, who is able to defuse the bomb.

At the police station, lots of people have gathered to watch the moon landing. Joe tells Benny astronauts used to train on the reservation. Benny says he saw an astronaut last week near their house. He points to the TV and said the astronaut looked like the one on TV, except he was blonde.  

When he told his grandfather, Emmerson told him to stay away from the man, that the man was bad and he had blown up that well. Joe realizes Colton Wolf was responsible for the death of his son. But how can he prove it?

Meanwhile, the episode ends with Colton stepping off the elevator at the hospital, disguised as a doctor. Is he on his way to kill Chee?

Dark Winds is leaning into dark magic and mysteries involving some shadowy figures. With new mysteries to solve, Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) is going to need both Bernadette (Jessica Matten) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon). 

When season 2 begins, there's a short time jump from the Dark Winds season 1 finale. Things seem to have settled down on the reservation. Joe and Emma (Deanna Allison) have added horses and sheep to their growing farm. Sally (Elva Guerra) and the baby are still living with the  

The trailer

Bernadette and Joe pull up to a mysterious trailer in an isolated part of the reservation. Lights in the trailer indicate the suspect they're seeking is inside. As they are figuring out a plan of attack the lights go out. 

When they burst into the trailer they find no one. Their suspect has slipped outside. The trailer is filled with creepy dolls, clown art and wigs. From his truck, the suspect lights up the trailer with heavy automatic gunfire. Then he drives away as Joe returns fire from inside the trailer.

A murder in disguise

After that action-packed opening, the story doubles back to six days before the trailer raid. Emma is working at the Indian Health Center. A local stoner, Steve Begay, comes in missing two fingers, carrying them in a Cracker Jack box. He said he was attacked by a sheep. Emma drives him to the hospital to have the fingers reattached. In the parking lot she nearly runs over the suspect Joe and Bernie are hunting in the opening scene. 

As Emma is waiting at the hospital, she sees Emerson Charley getting in his truck outside the hospital. She goes to the coffee machine. The truck explodes, shattering all the windows and knocking Emma down. When Joe arrives at the hospital he finds a piece of wiring in Emma's hair. 

Local policeman Gordo Sena (A. Martinez) pulls Joe outside to discuss what happened. As they're looking over the wreckage of the truck Joe finds more evidence the truck was blown up on purpose. But it's a mystery why anyone would blow up the truck. Emerson Charley was at the hospital getting treated for terminal cancer. Joe tells Sena he will visit Emerson's son, Tomas Charley, to see if he can figure out why anyone would target his father.

At Tomas Charley's shop he runs into Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon). Chee is now working as a private investigator.

The mysterious box

Chee is looking for Tomas Charley because he was hired by B.J. Vines' wife to retrieve a box that was stolen from their safe. Her husband is on a trip and she wants the box back, no questions asked, before he gets home. Mrs. Vines (Jeri Ryan) believes that a mysterious sect of healers and magicians on the reservation called the People of Darkness are responsible for the theft. 

Mrs. Vines tells Chee their maid saw the safe open in the middle of the night and Tomas Charley running away with the box under his arm. She tells Chee that her husband gave money to the People of Darkness for a period of time and she thinks the theft was retaliation because he stopped.

Tomas tells Chee that B.J. Vines is the witch and the head of People of Darkness. He stole the box because his father Emerson believed Vines had cursed him. Tomas was supposed to bring the box to a sacred spot and hopefully break the curse. He draws Chee a map to the secret site where Chee can retrieve the box. 

Joe goes with Chee out to the sacred site to find the box. It's a site of worship where there are small statues and offerings. On their way there they see a truck pulled off to the side of the road. They don't see anyone near it. They didn't know it then but it's the mystery suspect's truck.

The buckle

As Joe and Chee examine the sacred site they see an assortment of personal items and mementos. Joe, to his shock, finds the belt buckle his son was wearing the day he died. It's inscribed with his name on the back. A dust devil whirs up and then a shot rings out. Chee is shot in the shoulder. It's the mysterious man Joe and Bernie were looking for in the opening scene. He pins them down with gunfire, then uses a Molotov cocktail to blow up Joe's truck. Joe fires back at the suspect, but the suspect drives off without any real damage.  

The alien sheep

Joe tells Bernie to go with Begay to see where he was attacked. She finds a lot of snacks and an Air Force drone. Begay tells her that a sheep did attack him, one with twisted odd horns. As she's driving away Bernie sees a ram in the road with oddly twisted horns, including a horn growing from the center of its head. She brings it to the station and puts it in a holding cell. It makes everyone at the station nervous.

Already Dark Winds season 2 is intriguing. What do the mystery suspect, the People of Darkness and a mutated sheep have in common? Whatever it is, it's going to be interesting to see Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee working together to figure it out.

A rare 100%-fresh Rotten Tomatoes-approved TV show is getting a second season: Dark Winds season 2 returns the cast of the hit first season and hands them another, even more mysterious murder plot to unravel.

Dark Winds follows the Tribal Police of a Navajo Nation outpost. Dark Winds season 1 saw our trio of main characters (played by Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten) link together a series of disparate murders, while season 2 focuses on a murder that seems to be linked to a local cult.

Part psychological thriller and part neo-Western, Dark Winds has a star-studded cast in behind-the-camera roles as well as on-screen, with George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford as executive producers, and the show was created by Graham Roland, who previously created Jack Ryan and wrote for Lost, Mile 22 and The Returned.

How to watch Dark Winds season 2 in the US

You've got two options for watching Dark Winds season 2 in the US.

The first is using the AMC cable channel, which is available on live TV streaming services like Sling TV, YouTube TV, DirecTV and Philo TV if you don't have it included in your cable packages (or don't have one). Philo is your cheapest option, as it costs $25 per month.

Dark Winds debuts at 9 pm ET/PT (playing again at 11:15 pm ET/PT) on Sunday, July 30. Subsequent episodes play at the same time spot each Sunday, with the six-episode season ending on Sunday, September 3.

If you don't want to pay for cable or a streaming equivalent, you can watch the show on AMC Plus. You can get AMC Plus for $8.99 per month or $83.88 for an annual pass, and it's also available as a Prime Video channel for that same price (as long as you're a Prime subscriber). In fact, if you subscribe to AMC Plus, you can watch Dark Winds season 2 a little early, as the first episode premieres Thursday, July 27, on the streaming service.

How to watch Dark Winds season 2 in the UK

There's no official release information for Dark Winds season 2 in the UK, but that's not a total surprise, as the first season hasn't been released on any streaming service or platform in the country.

In fact, AMC generally doesn't make its shows easy to watch in the UK, and The Walking Dead: Dead City is another recent example that's also not streaming in the UK.

How to watch Dark Winds season 2 everywhere else

Dark Winds season 2 cast

The main trio of Dark Winds are all back for season 2, with Zahn McClarnon as Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee and Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito.

Many TV and movie fans likely recognize McClarnon from his roles on big series like Reservation Dogs (he'll be starring in Dark Winds season 2 and Reservation Dogs season 3 simultaneously), Westworld and Hawkeye. He also previously starred in the Fargo TV series, Bone Tomahawk and Longmire.

Gordon's credits outside of Dark Winds, meanwhile, include an episode of the Fox series Accused and Reservation Dogs, as well as a multiple-episode run on Roswell, New Mexico.

Matten's previous work saw her star in the TV series Tribal, Burden of Truth and Frontier.

Other cast members returning to the show include Deanna Allison (Accused, Edge of America) as Emma Leaphorn and Elva Guerra (Reservation Dogs, Rutherford Falls) as Sally Growing Thunder.

How to watch Dark Winds

Dark Winds airs on TV on AMC, a cable channel available through most traditional pay-TV packages, as well as offered by live TV streaming services like Sling TV, YouTube TV and more. You can also stream the show on AMC Plus, which requires a monthly subscription. 

If you want to sample the show before you commit to watching it, the series premiere is available to watch online for free on the AMC Plus YouTube channel. 

After The Walking Dead ended in 2022, it's now time to say goodbye to Fear the Walking Dead as well. The first six episodes of the shortened 12-episode final season premiered in May and aired its sixth episode on June 15. Now fans want to know when Fear the Walking Dead season 8 part 2 will air. 

We now know that Fear TWD will return on October 22 with its final six episodes. That means that we were right with Option 2 below!

Traditionally, the TWD Family gets a great deal of information about shows in the The Walking Dead universe during San Diego Comic-Con, but AMC has yet to confirm that they will be present at the big pop culture convention. 

AMC has already been busy in 2023 and has a lot of things in various stages that could impact Fear the Walking Dead's return. Here's what we know:

• The Walking Dead: Dead City is currently airing on Sunday nights in Fear The Walking Dead's time slot. The final episode of the new spinoff's six-episode season is slated to air on July 23.
• The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon spinoff starring Norman Reedus is coming later this year, but a release date has not been revealed.
• AMC's other hit series Interview with the Vampire season 2 is filming in Prague right now and is set to wrap in August.
• Filming has wrapped on the third TWD spinoff starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, tentatively titled The Walking Dead: Summit. Summit is slated for early 2024.
• Fear the Walking Dead will wrap up in 2023.

Another thing to note: in 2022, the final season of The Walking Dead and the Interview with the Vampire season 1 were paired up on Sunday nights in the fall to give the network a strong end to the year. The strategy paid off with a giant ratings boost. It's very possible AMC will reserve the fall to pair Daryl Dixon and Interview with the Vampire for another strong finish to the year, particularly as other networks struggle to bring scripted shows to their fall TV lineups amid the ongoing writers strike.

With all that in mind, here are the three scenarios we see for Fear the Walking Dead season 8 part 2:

Option 1

If Daryl Dixon and Interview with the Vampire premiere in the fall (likely October), then it makes sense AMC will close out the summer with Fear the Walking Dead. In the past, the second half of Fear The Walking Dead's season has often premiered in the summer, timed so the final episode would air a week or two before the season premiere of The Walking Dead. If Fear The Walking Dead returns in late August, it could run through September and end right before Daryl Dixon and Interview with the Vampire in October.  

Option 2

Daryl Dixon and Fear the Walking Dead could both air back-to-back on Sundays, meaning they'd both likely premiere in October in keeping with TWD tradition.

Option 3

Given the writers strike and possible Screen Actors Guild strike, AMC is in a pretty good position with three series that are currently filmed and in post-production (Daryl Dixon, Fear the Walking Dead and Summit) and one series that is almost done filming (Interview with the Vampire). If the writers strike continues, AMC may choose to hold onto their series and spread them out instead of running them back-to-back on the same night. That could still put Fear the Walking Dead at some point in the late summer, or they could push it to early 2024 to give the network a strong start to the new year.

Based on past scheduling, we'd think that Option 1 is the most likely scenario for Fear the Walking Dead, giving it a summer sendoff that helps kickstart the network's fall programming.

NOTE: this post contains spoilers for Lucky Hank episode 8, "The Chopping Block."

After looming over everyone's heads all season, the layoffs at Railton College have begun. Dickie Pope (Kyle MacLachlan) tells a news crew the moves will benefit the school and its bloated budget, but it certainly is not good for those he fired. Hank (Bob Odenkirk) walks past one of the fired professors, crying. To his credit, Hank is still doing what he can to fight the cuts.

He finds Pope in the cafeteria, disgustingly picking out raisins from the buffet line with his fingers, and tries to convince Pope he has evidence the building built for Jeffrey Epstein (reminder, not that one) involved the use of misappropriated funds. But Pope doesn't buy his bluff and insists either Hank give him a list of English professors to fire or he'll do it himself.

Things at the Devereaux household aren't going great either. Julie (Olivia Scott Welch) is staying there, though Russell (Daniel Doheny) arrives trying to get her to take him back after he was caught cheating. Julie is having none of it. 

Meanwhile, Lily (Mireille Enos) is making her official move to New York. Before she goes, she checks in with Russell and asks what his plan is. He thinks he can stick it out until Julie is ready to talk to him, not believing Julie really knows what she wants and will give in to him eventually. Lily slaps him as she does not appreciate his view of her daughter. 

She and Hank then say their goodbyes, trying to figure out when they'll see each other next. Hank says he can come up that weekend, but Lily reminds him that he wanted to stay in Railton because of his career — "I did say that. I hate me," Hank replies — and with everything going on at the school, he should actually invest some time in it.

But it's hard for Hank to fully put himself into his work when it involves firing three people. Hank tries to share the load first with his secretary (Ellen MacNevin) and then with Billie (Nancy Robertson), but both refuse to help him. Then later, when Paul (Cedric Yarbrough) just tells him to get on with it, Hank sadly admits he doesn't know what to do.

Lily's first day in New York brings about her first celebrity sighting, Catherine Keener. See fangirls out, even admitting she and Hank both have a thing for the actress. Keener tries to be polite, asking if Hank is there with Lily. When Lily says he is still in Pennsylvania, Keener acknowledges long distance can be hard. Even so, Lily is gleeful at the general interaction.

Hank throws a Hail Mary, going to see Jeffrey Epstein (Chris Gethard) to find out if he can prove that Pope misused funds for the building. Unfortunately, Epstein says there was no shady deal, and that Pope likely just took out a loan.

With no more moves to play, Hank realizes he has to just get the stuff he hates over with. This starts with grading the most recent story of Bartow (Jackson Kelly). Though Hank says he hated it, he actually compliments Bartow for a single paragraph and says it's good writing and something he should continue to work on. Bartow is actually glad to finally get constructive criticism from Hank. Hank then tells the English Department he won't be making a list and the people fired will be decided by Pope. To await their fate, they go to the bar. 

There he runs into Meg (Sara Amini). She tries to defend her sleeping with Russell by saying she doesn't believe in marriage, that she didn’t force him into bed and that her intention was not to hurt Julie, but Hank pokes holes in every one of her points.

The English department eventually is joined by Dean Rose (Oscar Nunez), who tells them he has resigned (or at least written his resignation letter, just needing to spell check it) and joins them in solidarity, including Gracie (Suzanne Cryer), who he has rekindled a romance with. They are later joined by Epstein and Tony (Diedrich Bader), who invites them to his house after they learn Emma (Shannon DeVido), Finney (Haig Sutherland) and Billie are getting fired. They don't seem enthused to continue partying, but Tony saying he has a hot tub gets them ready to go.

It's one of the saddest hot tub parties ever until Epstein mentions something about Pope trying to emulate MIT. This sets off bells in Rose's head, realizing that MIT is looking for a new president and Pope may be angling for that job, instituting the cuts to boost his resume. With the help of Pope's put-upon assistant, Hank and the department are able to get the evidence and expose Pope, who is quickly fired by the board and the professors reinstated.

Things still at home are iffy though. Russell is still on the porch, and when Hank asks if Julie has talked with him, she says kind of (they talked through the window earlier, but no ground was gained). Hank ultimately apologizes for getting Russell the job at the bar, which Julie appreciates. She then apologizes that he and Lily are getting separated. Hank is in denial about this though. So is Lily when he talks to her on the phone, though it's clear the two aren't being fully honest with themselves.

Though Hank is a conquering hero for the time being in the English department, he realizes he needs another form of validation. So he goes to see his father (Tom Bower) and tells him he kept people from getting fired. But Henry goes off onto his own tangent about how he was forced to retire, revealing the reason was he lied about being at the Selma march in 1965. When Hank asks why he would do that, Henry says it was so he could get published and still be invited to panels, the only thing that mattered to him.

This gives Hank an epiphany. His father left them as a child because he thought his career was everything and he couldn't see what he had. Hank won't make that mistake. He tenders his resignation with Rose (though the Dean ends up shredding the letter) and heads to New York to see Lily. Lily is surprised by his arrival and, when Hank isn't in front of her, looks a bit disappointed. Hank may have realized what he wanted, but is it too late for him and Lily?

That's where Lucky Hank ends, so unless a season 2 is on the way, the fate of their marriage seems to be up for interpretation.
