Much of Gadd’s previous work has explored masculinity, particularly Netflix sensation Baby Reindeer, but Half Man points the lens straight at what it means to be a man in the modern world. “All of my stories explore human feelings, but this time, I wanted to come up with an idea that explores what it means to be a man in this ever-changing world through these two characters” says the writer, “I think that much of how society has been structured can lead to men having an inability to express themselves and express love and vulnerability, so it felt interesting to posit that conversation through Niall and Ruben.”

Oh, it's a biggie. This year, there's a secret traitor – depicted in a red cloak instead of the regular dark green – whose identity is hidden not only from the regular traitors, but also from the watching audience at home.

The shock return came at the end of tonight's episode (Wednesday, September 3) when Kat answered Zoe's phone while her daughter was fighting for her life in the hospital.

While we all knew Jake Wood would be reprising his role as legendary Max, we didn't know exactly when he would be making his comeback; however, fans thought there might be something huge happening in tonight's episode when it didn't land on BBC iPlayer this morning.

The episode opened with Zoe getting shot after Jack and Ravi fought with a gun in the Square. At the end of Tuesday's episode, the pair looked horrified as the shot rang out, only for the credits to roll, and it was only today's episode that revealed it was Zoe who had been caught in the crossfire.

The drama continued as panic set out across Walford, with everyone worried there was a gunman on the loose. Zoe was rushed to hospital and straight into theatre, but not before flashbacks revealed what she has been up to since we last saw her on the Square.

But it wasn't until the very end of the episode that we saw Max calling Zoe's phone.

After finding out Zoe was caught up in trouble, Kat was left scared that Zoe was running from someone who was determined to harm her, and so when Zoe’s phone rang, Kat picked up, wanting answers.

However, with Max staying silent, Kat was unaware of who was on the phone - oblivious that it was someone she knows.

But how does Max know Zoe, and what is their connection? Is Max after Zoe for money? Or do they have a much friendlier relationship?

Luckily, we don't have to wait long to find out, because all will be revealed when EastEnders continues on Thursday on BBC iPlayer at 6 am and BBC One at 7.30 pm.

EastEnders fans are facing a longer wait than usual to find out what happens next after last night's shock shooting episode.

Usually, the new episode is available for fans to watch early on BBC iPlayer the morning that it is due to air on BBC One at 7.30 pm. However, today's episode (Wednesday, September 3) is missing from iPlayer, meaning fans will have to wait for the drama to unfold on BBC One tonight instead.

Fans of the show will know that this usually happens when something big is about to be revealed, and the episode is held back so that everyone can watch the drama unfold at the same time.

Last night's epsiode of EastEnders saw Ravi and Jack fighting over a gun that had been passed around the Square, only to end up back in Ravi's possession when he broke into Jack's house during Yolande and Patrick's wedding and stole it back.

He happened to be caught by an unsuspecting Denise, who arrived home just in time to see him escaping out of the back door, and Jack was fuming to learn his rival had been in his home.

Knowing that he was there for the gun, which Jack had been hiding for Oscar, who had taken it from Harry's hiding place after he was given it by Ravi to get rid of (are you keeping up?!) Jack went to confront Ravi, and the pair ended up fighting in the Square, only for the gun to go off mid-tussle.

Now, we don't know who got shot, if anyone at all - but the looks on Ravi and Jack's faces hinted there is plenty of drama to come. And with both Zoe and Kat arguing in the market at the time, they were most definitely in the firing line.

Zoe came back to the Square in a bid to get her hands on some cash, but instead was tricked by Tommy and reunited with Kat after decades apart. The pair had an emotional reunion which was far from happy, but is their time together about to be cut short?

Who could have been shot, and will they be okay?

One thing is for sure - tonight's episode is definitely not one to be missed!

Being stranded on a remote island with a love match you’ve only just met would be any singleton’s worst nightmare - but it’s the premise of Stranded on Honeymoon Island, BBC One’s new dating show that hopes to discover whether true love can thrive in isolation.

The 12-part series follows 12 singles looking for love as they get hitched and embark on honeymoons like no other with someone they met for just five minutes at a speed dating event!

For three weeks, our six newlywed couples will each be stranded on a remote, tropical beach in The Philippines, with no home comforts and only the clothes on their backs. Will their new love be all they need?

In an exclusive for What to Watch, host Davina McCall guides us through what people can expect...

Hi Davina, how does it feel to be playing cupid?

"Everyone knows I love reality TV and I just loved this concept; these daters are a bit older to those on other dating shows, they’re all frustrated with modern dating and this is a way of getting to know someone very well, very quickly," says the My Mum, Your Dad host. "At the speed dating event, they’d ask really deep questions, from ‘Do you want kids?’ to ‘What part of the burger would you be?’"

Do the daters really only have five minutes to get to know each other?

"Yes! Being stranded somewhere is like the greatest test of any relationship ever," says Davina. "This is a social experiment that follows people meeting in the toughest of conditions and seeing if love can flourish. It’s going to push these relationships to the very edge!

After saying 'I do', the honeymooning couples jump off a boat into the ocean to symbolise taking a ‘leap of faith’...

"Yeah, it's quite high… and quite mad," confirms Davina. "Bride Hannah was wearing a fishtail dress and I was worried about her drowning, wondering: ‘How will she kick her legs to swim? All of the honeymooners look lovely in their wedding clothes… then they arrive on this beautiful island, completely bedraggled, knowing they're going to have to wear these same clothes for three weeks!"

So it’s a survival show in more ways than one?

"Absolutely! The honeymooners’ beach homes might look lovely and exotic but they had a tough time, particularly with bugs and the weather - the sunsets in the Philippines were extraordinary but when it rained, it was biblical," says Davina. "There’s no mirrors or make-up, so the women, in particular, are stripped of everything that makes you feel comfortable, safe and attractive. Bride Mae felt she was losing something of herself; we get to see how that manifests and how her partner reacts to that."

Tell us about some of the honeymooners…

"We really get to know the couples before seeing them getting married," reveals Davina. "Like bride Helen. She’s struggling with the fact her mum has cancer and her brother has a terminal brain tumor, but she wants to find love. We see how much it means to her and we're already invested."

And where do you fit into proceedings?

"These couples are genuinely stranded. I asked the producers: ‘Can I go out to the island?’ And they replied: ‘No, that's the point of the show, they’re stranded, no one else is there!’ So, instead, I pop up intermittently via an iPad delivered in crates that wash up onto the shore, usually bringing them some sort of news, sometimes good… sometimes not so good."

And what is Couples Cove?

"Couples Cove is where each couple eventually gets to meet the other stranded honeymooners, which means reuniting with people they met speed dating that they may also have connected with," explains Davina. "Maybe the person they married wasn't their first choice - and their first choice is now at Couples Cove! This show has every twist and turn you could dream of."

Sounds like this could cause ructions...

"Our stranded honeymooners can quit the process whenever they want," says Davina, "but they have to do it in a dramatic ‘I’m done’ kind of way by releasing an emergency flare, making their departure very final. And we get a ‘flare out’ VERY early on."

How do you think you'd cope with being Stranded on Honeymoon Island?

"I'm quite low maintenance in terms of makeup but nice clothes make me feel ‘me’, so I’d want at least one other dress with me, so I can feel pretty, and I’d love a warm bath," says Davina. "I’d want some protection from the insects because I’d have a bit of a problem with them… but I’d have a whopper of a problem with the ‘open’ loo situation. No one wants to have the ‘poo chat’ that early into a relationship!"

That said, Davina admits she'd quite enjoy being stranded on a remote island with her partner, TV hair stylist Michael Douglas...

"We really get on and are both immensely practical people," she says. "He’s brilliant at DIY, building things and making things out of nothing, and I’d like to think I’d just get stuck in, too. So Michael would be the one wearing the trousers, but I would be a great ‘sous chef’; helpful, efficient, enthusiastic and happy. I'd bring the joy!"

Stranded on Honeymoon Island starts on Wednesday 3 September at 9pm on BBC1.

It has been announced today, Thursday, August 21, that Game of Thrones star, Kristian Nairn, has had to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing 2025 due to 'unexpected medical reasons'.

The news comes ahead of the new series, which starts next month, meaning a new celebrity had had to be found to take Kristian's place. The BBC has confirmed that the new celebrity joining the line-up will be revealed on tonight's The One Show on BBC One from 7 pm.

Speaking of having to withdraw from the seires, Kristian Nairn said: “With a heavy heart, I have to step back from this season of Strictly Come Dancing due to unexpected medical reasons. I was truly looking forward to the journey, and I’m deeply sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to seeing me on the dance floor. Thank you all for your support, and I will be back on my feet very soon, in every sense. Love to all, Kristian."

Sarah James, Executive Producer, BBC Studios added: “We’ve absolutely loved getting to know Kristian in this short time, and he has all the makings of a brilliant Strictly Come Dancing contestant. We’re incredibly sorry to lose him from this year’s series and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”

The new famous face will be joining this year's already confirmed line-up, which includes Harry Aikines-Aryeetey from Gladiators, TV personality Dani Dyer, star of stage and screen, Alex Kingston, former professional footballer, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, EastEnders favourite Balvinder Sopal and British YouTuber George Clarke.

Also taking part are performer, presenter and singer La Voix, former rugby player Chris Robshaw, model, actor and influencer, Ellie Goldstein, The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner, Neighbours legend Stefan Dennis, former footballer Karen Carney, TV presenter Vicky Pattison and Good Morning Britain and Lorraine star Ross King.

The BBC has finally confirmed when we can expect to see the first Celebrity Traitors UK on our screens.

The hugely popular entertainment show, which until now has seen members of the public taking part in the series, is hosted by the wonderful Claudia Winkleman as she guides contestants through the ultimate murder-mystery game.

This time around, we will see famous faces heading to the castle in the Scottish Highlands, and until now, we have only been told the series will land on the BBC in the Autumn.

Today, Thursday, August 21, it was announced by the BBC that the series will start in October, meaning there are only a few months to wait.

While we don't have an exact date yet, we do know which celebrities will be taking part. The famous names in the first celebrity spin-off include Stephen Fry, actor Mark Bonnar, comedian Lucy Beaumont, content creator Niko Omilana, comedian Nick Mohammed, EastEnders star Tameka Empson, singer Paloma Faith, Olympian Tom Daley, and actor Ruth Codd.

Also starring are singer Cat Burns, comedian Alan Carr, singer Charlotte Church, actor Celia Imrie, broadcaster Clare Balding, historian David Olusoga, former England rugby player Joe Marler, comedian Joe Wilkinson, broadcaster Kate Garraway, and TV presenter Jonathan Ross.

Claudia will also be back in a new array of tweeds, knitted jumpers and cardigans, but who will remain a Faithful and which underhand celebs will be chosen as Traitors?

Celebrity Traitors will work in the same way as the regular show but with celebrities competing instead. As always, the contestants will arrive at the castle as Faithfuls but Claudia will choose a number of Traitors who must try to remain undetected.

Over the course of the show, the group works together to successfully complete challenges known as ‘missions’ and add cash to the prize money, which can reach £120,000. The group must hold regular banishments, where they vote out the person they think is most likely to be a Traitor, while the Traitors can murder Faithfuls for as long as they remain in the game.

If the Faithfuls successfully banish all the Traitors before the end of the game, they split the prize money between them. But if a Traitor remains at the end, the Traitor wins the lot.

We're used to seeing Faithfuls and Traitors playing to win for themselves or their loved ones, but the celebrities will play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust, in the hope of winning a cash prize up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice.

The BBC has also confirmed that the main Traitors series will return with season 4 in early 2026

Jacob Masters is going through hell in the eighth instalment of Casualty 12-parter Supply and Demand — airing on BBC1, Saturday 23 August 2025 at 8.25pm (See our TV Guide). Can he prove his innocence?

Elsewhere, Nicole Piper’s attempts to help vulnerable Cassie Woods flee Holby end in tragedy, Rash Masum faces his fears as he enters a new chapter in his life, and Faith Dean doubles, down to the dismay of her hubby, Iain.

Jacob Masters stands his ground

Paramedic Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) is understandably seething as he’s put on desk duty while an investigation into whether or not he stole morphine supplies gets underway this week. And, adding insult to injury, Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) is covering his shifts!

Their boss, Jan Jenning (Di Botcher), does her best to calm the stormy waters, but it’s no easy feat with tension brewing and emotions running high.

Arresting development

As Iain’s shift gets underway, shocking events at a shout out in an underground carpark (see below for more) lend weight to his developing theory that the morphine being supplied to the paramedic crews is most probably being tampered with.

Desperate to right wrongs, Iain persuades Jacob to join forces with him to prove his suspicions, and the results are horrifying…

Faith no more?

Prior to this, in an exchange between Iain and his new wife Faith Dean (yes, we’re officially calling her Mrs Dean now!), the advanced clinical practitioner remains unconvinced of Jacob’s innocence.

Initially Iain’s frustrated when Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) defends her position, but later, based on her hubby’s discoveries, she’s forced to admit she got it wrong.

Feeling terrible Faith heads over to the ambulance station to apologise to Jacob at the earliest opportunity, but he’s not interested in anything she has to say.

It’s also clear that Iain is furious with Faith. In a heated exchange, words are said that cannot be unsaid and big cracks appear in their relationship.

Morphine thief revealed

Meanwhile, hurting from being accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Jacob thaws towards his (former?) bessie mate Iain as they work together to irrefutably prove his innocence.

Speaking about the future for the friends Charles Venn, who plays Jacob Masters tells WTW: “You want to believe that they’ll figure it out eventually, like brothers. It's that whole thing of you might not be happy, it may take a minute, but deep down you want to resolve it, and you just hope it's a case of not if, but when.” Full interview available here

But even so, their bromance is still broken, and Iain’s marriage to Faith is on pretty shaky ground now as well.

There’s a shock twist too — as they inch closer to the truth, the identity of the real culprit is revealed to viewers!

Nicole and Cassie - tragedy strikes

Another major storyline this week revolves around doctor Nicole Piper’s attempts to help vulnerable Cassie Woods escape the criminal drug gang that’s been making the young woman’s life a misery.

The story kicks off with both women on pins as they count down the hours until Cassie (Charlie Ann Upton) hops on a one-way train to Newcastle to stay with a close friend of Nicole’s.

However, when Nicole (Sammy T. Dobson) must go into work at the last minute, Cassie decides to leave the safety of the flat to buy her a goodbye gift.

We don’t want to spoil what happens next, other than to say that there are shocking scenes after Cassie is brutally attacked while walking through an underground carpark and is raced to Holby ED.

As her life hangs in the balance, Nicole reaches out to social services for additional support for deathly ill Cassie and opens a Pandora's box on her own painful past in the process…

Speaking to WTW on the set of Casualty, Sammy T. Dobson, who plays Nicole Piper reveals: “It’s an intense situation. Cassie is many things to Nicole and it’s like she’s looking at her younger self.” Full interview coming soon. Check back for updates

Nicole opens up to her ex, nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni), about her childhood, revealing that she grew up in care after her mother gave her up when she was four-years-old.

There appears to be a glimmer of hope for the former couple in that moment, until Ngozi reveals a shocking secret of her own…

Elsewhere, consultant Dylan Keogh (William Beck) is privy to Ngozi’s decision and gently advises her to reconsider!

Nurse Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) considers whether or not to forgive a friend.

Paramedic Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak), however, is not in such a forgiving mood when it comes to Cam. Sensing the tension Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) attempts to play matchmaker.

Will he succeed?

And, finally, doctor Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) is feeling slightly daunted as he faces a difficult shift on his first day off antidepressants. Fortunately, nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) is on hand for support and encouragement. And Rash ends up needing her advice after pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary) excitedly reveals she's ready to take their relationship to the next level…

No, not that!

She invites him over to hers for a takeaway and to meet her teenage son Jake (Gabriel Goulding, The Kitchen).

At first Rash agrees, but then gets cold feet. Is he ready to face his fears, or will he end the budding romance in its tracks?

It was announced today, Monday, August 11, that Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, aka Nitro, will be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2025.

Harry is the first celebrity name to be officially announced for the new series, which will arrive on our screens next month.

The BBC revealed the news on this morning's episode of CBBC show Newsround, where Harry, who took part in the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 Christmas Special, said: “After the Christmas Special, it was so nice I just had to do it twice! I’m so excited to be part of the Strictly family this series and I’m ready to give it all I’ve got. I’ll be bringing tons of energy to light up the dance floor. Let’s hope I’m as quick at picking up the routines as I am on the track!"

But, while fans are desperate to know who will be joining Harry on the Strictly dancefloor this year, we have a little wait to find out who will be announced next because it has been confirmed by the BBC that the next three celebrities will be announced on The One Show tonight at 7 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Harry's name being announced first won't come as much of a surprise to fans after he was strongly rumoured to be taking part in the show following his huge success on the festive special.

The Gladiators star, who is an Olympian and a multi-gold medal-winning Team GB sprinter, became the first athlete to win gold medals at both 100 and 200 metres at the World Youth Championships, and won the 2005 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award aged 17.

Harry has gone on to win gold in the 4x100m relay at the European Championships and at the Commonwealth Games. He has competed in two Olympic Games and is a three-time European Champion and two-time Commonwealth Champion.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to our screens in September 2025.

There's a superb season of Autumn TV playing out for the rest of 2025. It's an important time for telly fans after the summer holidays are over and they focus on what great television is in store during the Fall and run-up to Christmas.

It's the time of year where all channels give us their major output and Autumn 2025 sees many wonderful new TV shows starting, all with top stars, but also returning favourites, brand new crime thrillers, period dramas and everything in between.

Riot Women (BBC One and BBC iPlayer)

The six-parter Riot Women is by Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack writer Sally Wainwright follows a group of spirited middle-aged Yorkshire women who form a punk-rock band for a local talent contest. As their musical endeavours give them all a new lease of life, a revelation comes to the fore causes huge trouble. Lorraine Ashbourne, Joanna Scanlan, Amelia Bullmore, Rosalie Craig and Tamsin Greig play the band members. Do also look out for veteran stars Anne Reid and Sue Johnston.

I Fought The Law (ITV1 and ITVX)

Sheridan Smith stars in I Fought The Law, which is an emotional four-part drama based on the true story of Ann Ming, who campaigned to change the Double Jeopardy law, which had prevented someone from being tried twice for the same crime, following her daughter’s brutal murder. Julie, 22, had gone missing in November 1989 in Billingham, Cleveland, and her body was found hidden under the bath in her home.

Her murderer, William Dunlop, was wrongfully acquitted but, years later, confessed to the crime. Thanks to Ann’s tireless campaigning, the 800-year-old legislation was overturned and Dunlop was jailed for life. Daniel York Loh plays Anne’s late husband Charlie Ming.

The Guest (BBC One and BBC iPlayer)

Torchwood and Keeping Faith star Eve Myles plays business owner Fran, who recruits Ria (Gabrielle Creevy) as a cleaner in four-part thriller The Guest. The duo become friends when Fran helps Ria to decide what she really wants from life, but things go wrong after Fran’s advice leads to a devastating incident and the women are drawn into a chilling plot. Emun Elliott and Sion Daniel Young co-star.

Trespasses (Channel 4)

Set in 1975 against the turbulent backdrop of all the Troubles in Northern Ireland, this four-parter follows star-crossed lovers Cushla (Lola Petticrew), a spirited Catholic schoolteacher, and Michael (Tom Cullen), a controversial married barrister, as they embark on a passionate but dangerous liaison. Gillian Anderson plays Cushla’s eccentric mother, Gina.

The Forsytes (5)

Based on the classic Forsyte Saga novels by John Galsworthy, six-part period drama The Forsytes is set in the late Victorian era and follows the lives a well-to-do family of stockbrokers, as they wrestle with who’ll take over the family firm. Joshua Orpin plays Soames Forsyte and Millie Gibson is his dancer bride Irene (see pictured above), while Francesca Annis is matriarch Ann, alongside a strong supporting cast that includes Stephen Moyer, Tuppence Middleton, Eleanor Tomlinson and Jack Davenport.

King & Conqueror (BBC One and BBCIplayer)

This epic eight-part period drama King & Conqueror follows the Norman conquest of Britain, one of the most decisive historical events in our history, after the infamous Battle of Hastings in 1066. Harold of Wessex (James Norton) and William of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) began as allies but ended up bitter enemies as they fought for control of the British throne. Emily Beecham plays Edith Swan Neck, the wife of Harold while Clémence Poésy is William’s wife, Matilda. Eddie Marsan, Claire Holman, Juliet Stevenson, Joseph Mawle, Elliot Cowan and Jean-Marc Barr also star.

The Death of Bunny Munro (Sky Atlantic and NOW)

The Death of Bunny Munro is a drama starring former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, which is based on Nick Cave's book about a father/son road trip. After the suicide of his wife Libby, sex addict and lothario Bunny finds himself the sole carer of his nine-year-old son Bunny Junior (Rafael Mathé), with very little idea of how to parent.

As the pair embark on a road trip across southern England, Bunny Junior starts to unravel as a result of his grief. Both are dealing with their grief in very different ways. While older Bunny tries to bed every woman he can, Bunny Junior spends his time talking to his mother’s ghost and trying to distract himself from the fact his dad is a chaotic mess. As Bunny Junior starts to spiral, Bunny realises he must do something to rescue his son from his own outdated notions of what it is to be a man.

Coldwater (ITV1 and ITVX)

Coldwater sees Andrew Lincoln play John, a stay-at-home dad struggling to cope when a violent incident in a playground leaves him so troubled that he and wife Fiona (Indira Varma) decide to move their family to the (fictional) titular Scottish village to start over. But things get even more complicated in this six-part thriller when John bonds with charismatic neighbour Tommy (Ewen Bremner) who is hiding some very dark secrets…

Murder Before Evensong (5)

Murder Before Evensong is based on the debut novel Murder Before Evensong by the Reverend Richard Coles and is a six-part whodunnit series. Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis plays crime-solving cleric Canon Daniel Clement, while Amanda Redman as his nonsense mother, Audrey.

The Woman in Cabin 10 (Netflix)

Based on the bestseller The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware this one-off thriller follows a journalist, played by Keira Knightley (above), who is given the travel assignment of a lifetime when she's asked to cover the maiden voyage of a luxury cruise liner, which then sets sail. Then, late one night, she witnesses a passenger tossed overboard and tries to raise the alarm. However, she is told she must have dreamed it because all passengers are safe and accounted for.

Yet despite no one believing her, she continues to search for the truth, even if it means putting her own life in danger. Adapted from the 2003 novel Down Cemetery Road by Mick Herron, who is also the author of Slow Horses, this eight-episode thriller stars Ruth Wilson as Sarah Tucker, who asks private eye Zoë Boehm (Dame Emma Thompson) to help find a child she suspects has vanished in Oxford, UK, but a complex conspiracy unfolds.

Atomic (Sky Atlantic)

Atomic is an intense five-part thriller stars Alfie Allen as drug-smuggler Max and mysterious Mohammed (Shazad Latif) who find themselves flung together and caught up in a sinister terrorist plot to steal uranium to build an atomic weapon. The Thursday Murder Club (Netflix)

The movie adaptation of Richard Osman’s 2020 novel The Thursday Murder Club boasts a killer cast as four pensioners-turned-amateur sleuths create cosy chaos in their retirement village. A new disappearance reignites hidden tensions in the fictional rural New Zealand town of Mount Affinity as gritty crime drama The Gone returns for a second outing (all The Gone season 2 episodes are available on BBC iPlayer now, along with season 1).

After cracking the harrowing case of two missing young Irish tourists in the first series, Dublin detective Theo Richter (Grey’s Anatomy actor Richard Flood) is preparing to return home when he discovers his love interest, Irish journalist Aileen Ryan (Smother’s Carolyn Bracken), has vanished under eerily similar circumstances.

Teaming up again with Maori detective Diana Huia (Under the Vines star Acushla-Tara Kupe), Theo learns Aileen was chasing a lead and was lured to a remote cabin housing a collection of macabre items linked with a serial killer known as "the Goatman".

Where does the new six-part run pick up the action?

RICHARD "It starts exactly where we finished at the end of the first season. Theo is in the airport and is calling Aileen but he’s not getting any response, so he decides to head back to the police station to look for help."

ACUSHLA-TARA "Diana’s getting ready to leave [her home town of] Mount Affinity again, to go back to the city and back to her life. But she’s at a press conference about everything they discovered in Season 1 when Theo turns up and asks if she has seen Aileen…"

Was it a challenge to reprise your roles with the break in filming?

ACUSHLA-TARA "We started filming this season with detective scenes, which is inherently a little harder because it’s very wordy and evidence-based. It took me a couple of days to ease back into Diana, but then I found her and thought, ‘There she is, we’re good!’"

RICHARD "I like that you fly back into the storyline and understand exactly where your character is. It was fairly seamless, although there were a couple of days where I was like, ‘Where are we again?’"

How do Theo and Diana cope with concerns from the locals about the rumoured return of the Goatman?

ACUSHLA-TARA "Diana finds it quite confusing because it’s totally new territory for her."

RICHARD "Due to Theo’s personal relationship with Aileen, there’s a different kind of urgency and panic. His drive is based on emotion, rather than being a really professional detective. But certain things become clearer to him about what he wants and who he is."

Would you say Theo is more of a team player this time?

RICHARD "Yes, a big difference this series is that Theo is relying on the team that has been built to help him, rather than him coming into the team to help it. Without Diana, Sergeant Harris [Scott Wills], Detective Sergeant Gwenda [Miriama Te Rangimarie Smith] and their knowledge of all the people around the town, Theo would be lost."

ACUSHLA-TARA "At times, she has to take the lead as she can be more objective than Theo."

Finally, what are your standout memories from filming Series 2?

ACUSHLA-TARA "Doing armoury training and learning how to use weapons properly was cool!"

RICHARD "The locations are incredible. Filming in Te Aroha [the town that doubles as Mount Affinity] is always a highlight."

Teddy Gowan is still reeling from previous events in Casualty and feels the need to let off some steam as the medical drama returns this week. But when he decides to go clubbing and pop some party drugs, will it be the last thing he ever does?

Teddy Gowan’s downward spiral

Teddy Gowan’s day starts off badly and gets worse from there when Casualty returns after a break in the schedules this week.

First up the paramedic is paired with co-worker Indie Jankowski, who he still harbours resentment towards after her father robbed his aunt Jan Jenning’s home.

Yet relations thaw between the two when they attend a chilling shout-out and he ends up needing Indie’s help!

High-risk patient Grace Miller (Bryony Miller, Patrick Melrose, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) is in a distressed state when they attend a shout-out at her home.

With the situation looking dangerous, Teddy (Milo Clarke) attempts to break in so they can treat her, however, his heart condition causes him distressing symptoms, which he quickly covers up, leaving it to Indie (Naomi Wakszlack) to take matters into her own hands..

Not only does Indie climbs in a window so they can attend to vulnerable Grace to her own personal endangerment, she also lies to their boss Jan (Di Botcher) afterwards about why she was in the house alone in a potentially dangerous predicament.

Deadly gamble

Later, after their shift has finished, Teddy decides to join Indie and nurses Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell) and Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) for a night out at a new club launching in Holby, to celebrate Indie landing a new job in Sheffield.

Once the booze gets flowing and Indie’s old school friend Badger (Tai Hilferink) turns up with a bag of party pills, Teddy and some of his co-worker friends decide to euphorically dance their troubles away.

However, what they don’t know is, a deadly batch of party pills are doing the rounds in Holby and they’ve just embarked on a game of Russian roulette with their lives.

With Teddy especially vulnerable, due to the resurgence of his heart problems, will he die on what is supposed to be a fun night out? Or will one of the others fall victim to the lethal cocktail?

The senior medics - clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill), paramedic boss Jan and ED clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) brace themselves for a trinity of trouble with the launch of the new nightclub, Euphoria, coinciding with a music festival and graduation celebrations taking place over the same weekend.

Yet nothing prepares them, and despite their years of experience, they’re shaken to their cores by what they end up facing…

It’s a particularly terrifying shift for Siobhan and Jan, as they’re unable to get hold of the younger medics, who aren’t answering their phones. Also causing Siobhan immense distress is the fact that her son Ben is out celebrating and uncontactable.

As patients flood Holby ED suffering the ill effects of pills laced with deadly synthetic opioids, will some familiar faces be among the dying casualties?

Elsewhere, Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) is placed in a terrible predicament by troubled Cassie Woods (Charlie Ann Upton) when the younger woman brings her deathly ill friend Steph Miles (Evie McGuire) into the ED in need of urgent care.

As Nicole joins the dots, she’s faced with making a choice that could harm the very people she’s trying to care for. Meanwhile, Cassie attempts to protect herself by banning Nicole from attending their foster-mother Maggie’s funeral, which is due to take place the next day.

Meanwhile, Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) considers taking pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary) on an unusual first date. In going against who he really is, has he made a terrible mistake by asking her to go clubbing?

And, last, but very far from least… Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) becomes the prime suspect as the finger of suspicion on who the morphine thief is points firmly at him.

Having worked out that the paramedic could be to blame, what will advanced clinical practitioner Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) do with this information? And will her husband Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) - Jacob’s best friend through thick and thin - support her?

The wait for new episodes continues for Casualty fans as the show has been dropped from tonight's BBC One schedule once again.

Fans have already had a wait to find out what happens next after the show didn't air last weekend (Saturday, July 19), and it won't be airing again this evening (Saturday, July 26), with the next episode airing instead on Saturday, August 2.

Also, Ngozi teetered on the brink of relapse and Indie got an interview for a position in Sheffield and, while she’s upset at the thought of leaving Holby, she was delighted when Cam offered to coach her over a drink in The Anchor.

Chaos is the word that springs to mind when you think of the Jessops, the family at the heart of BBC One sitcom Here We Go. And with smart tech, role-play festivals and a trip to Malta in the mix for Here We Go season 3, we know that anything can happen... and probably will.

Here We Go returns to BBC One on Friday, July 25 with a double bill from 9 pm, with remaining episodes then showing weekly.

Still unsure whether he's coming or going is hapless dad Paul (Jim Howick), alongside his somewhat neurotic wife Rachel (Katherine Parkinson) and their grown-up children, daughter Amy (Freya Parks) and son Sam (Jude Morgan-Collie), who's once again capturing the family's every move on camera.

The family wouldn't be complete without Paul’s mum 'gran' Sue (Alison Steadman), plus Rachel’s brother Robin (show creator Tom Basden) and his now very heavily pregnant wife Cherry (Tori Allen-Martin) - which means there will be a new member of the Jessop clan this series - baby Atlas!

Here We Go season 3 plot

As the series begins, we learn it's Paul and Rachel’s wedding anniversary...

"Rachel’s gifted Paul a Big Green Egg barbecue," reveals Jim, who plays dad Paul. 'He talked a lot about wanting one in series one and now he’s finally got one.

To celebrate their anniversary, the entire Jessop clan are off to an escape room - if they can escape their own house first!

"The Jessops have new smart locks on the doors and windows and end up getting locked in. They have to get an electrician around to try and disable the locks and open the front door for them and he tells them: 'Just download the app,'" says Jim, who admits he's not the biggest fan of smart tech...

"Like Paul, whenever I hear someone say that, they've lost me. I'm a real Luddite! I tend to harass my parents into getting into the tech world, so they're not left behind but, deep down, I'm actually quite a primitive man."

What else is troubling Paul?

Amidst the chaos, police constable Paul’s also dealing with an ‘unfortunate’ rash…

"The Jessops have a smart photo frame, too, that shows different photos on a loop… and Paul’s ‘spotty bottom’ rash ends up fully on display. I had to choose my ‘bottom double’ on set - production showed me a catalogue of supporting artists, who all looked a bit like me and who were willing to have their bottom photographed!"

We hear there’s a big stunt in the first episode...

That's right. As Mum Rachel is frantically searching for the missing fob to unlock the door, daughter Amy is in the kitchen building a giant Lego Eiffel Tower…

"As chaos ensues, Rachel runs into the kitchen," explains Jim, "Let’s just say, it took a whole week for our production team to build one of these Eiffel Towers, so a lot of work went into what was inevitably going to be instant destruction!"

Blimey! Sounds like the Jessops need a holiday. Is it true they all go to Malta?

"That’s right, and we really did go to Malta," enthuses Jim. "This episode mainly focuses on Rachel's relationship with her dad - played by Robert Glenister (A Thousand Blows). It's a charming performance from him and he and Katherine are great together. Malta’s capital city Valletta, is a beautiful place and, as it’s not a heavy episode for Paul, I got to have the day off, so I wasn't running around in 30-degree heat!"

With three series in the bag, what keeps viewers coming back for more?

The Jessops might look like they constantly get on each other's nerves but, deep down, there's genuine affection there...

"There’s a deep love among the Jessops… mixed with envy and bitterness," says Jim.

"I think the warmth of the show comes from that real family thing of people not calling ahead and just dropping in; you won’t see someone for ages, then one day they’ll stop by with a jar of gherkins! It reminds me of my own childhood; it feels familiar and I think it resonates with people."

Soap schedules are up in the air once again this week as a summer of sport means your favourite shows are moved to a different time, or sometimes an entirely different channel.

The last couple of weeks have seen huge disruption for soaps as Wimbledon 2025 and the Women's Euros 2025 got underway, but the chaos is set to continue into this week as well.

After the schedules for the Women's Euros knockout matches were decided after last night's group matches, it has now been confirmed by the BBC that EastEnders will air at the following times this week...

• Monday, July 14 at 7.30 on BBC One
• Tuesday, July 15 at 7.30 with an hour-long episode on BBC One
• Wednesday, July 16 at 7pm on BBC One

There is some good news for EastEnders fans because the soap will also be dropping onto iPlayer Monday to Thursday this week at the usual time of 6 am, meaning you can watch some episodes in advance.

This week's EastEnders will see Oscar Branning arrive in Walford and waste no time in bringing trouble to his big sister Lauren's door.

Meanwhile, Nigel is reunited with his wife, Julie; however, Julie is left reeling when Nigel doesn't recognise her and quickly becomes overwhelmed.

Later in the week, everything gets on top of Phil, who is struggling with the pressure of looking after his best friend, and in Wednesday's episode, he attacks Johnny after catching him with his son-in-law, Callum Highway.

Phil is not happy to discover that Callum has cheated on his son Ben, who is currently in prison in America, and lunges at Johnny and starts to strangle him!

Will Callum, Jay Brown and Billy Mitchell manage to stop angry Phil before he goes too far?

The other good news for soap fans is that, because of the way the football fixtures have landed, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be airing on their usual days and at their usual times this week. Phew!

The Great British Sewing Bee 2025 is here and now it has finally been announced who will be taking part in this year's competition.

Once again, a new gang of amateur sewers will compete against one another in a series of tough challenges - all with the aim to impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.

But there is a twist for this year, because comedian Sara Pascoe is back in her presenting role after Kiell Smith-Bynoe, who took part in the celebrity festive edition of the sewing contest in 2021, covered her maternity leave last series.

This year we will see 12 new faces heading for the sewing room, including a bus driver, a lecturer and a magistrate.

Taking part in the 2025 series are Caz, 59, who is retired and from Staffordshire, Kit, 24 a Digital Marketer from Manchester, Gaynor, 72, a Retired Office Manager from Port Talbot, Wales, Jess, 33, who is Head of Communications in London, Órla, 19, a Café Worker/Student from Inverness and Peter, 45, a Senior Pre-Construction Manager from Devon.

Joining them are Glendora, 59, a Bus Driver from Luton, Yasmin, 30, a Research and Development Scientist from Gateshead, Novello, 66, a Family Business Owner and Magistrate from London, Dan, 37, a Performer from Durham, Saffie, 32, a Lecturer in Product & Industrial Design from London and Stuart, 53, a Premises Manager from Herefordshire.

Patrick Grant and Esme Young will be returning to the judging duties on the show once again, keeping a watchful eye over the sewers as they create their masterpieces.

Speaking of the series last year, Patrick told us: "I’m absolutely delighted that the show is still popular. It’s one of the warmest and kindest shows on the telly."

The Great British Sewing Bee 2025 starts on Tuesday, July 15 at 9pm on BBC One. Episodes will then air weekly in the same slot.

Human begins in the UK on Monday, July 14 at 9pm on BBC2 and will air weekly, but the whole series will also be available as a box-set from the same day on BBC iPlayer.

The paleoanthropologist and explorer has previously hosted BBC2’s Neanderthals - Meet Your Ancestors in 2018, in 2020 she hosted Channel 4’s Jungle Mystery: Lost Kingdoms of the Amazon and teamed up with Chris Packham for BBC2’s Waterhole, which looked at wildlife at a reserve in Tanzania. In 2022 she presented Channel 4’s Tutankhamun: Secrets of the Tomb and she has also featured on BBC2’s Our Changing Planet.

Human – what is it about?

The documentary sees Ella Al-Shamahi travel across the globe to a range of archaeological sites where she unveils cutting-edge DNA and fossil discoveries that shed fresh light on our evolution. She also looks at other human species – some of whom lived at the same time as us – and examines why they became extinct but we managed to survive. Meanwhile 3D models, partly created using CGI, reveal what our early ancestors may have looked like and dramatic reconstruction portrays how they may have lived.

Episode One: The First Of Us

Ella Al-Shamahi travels to Morocco to look at a fossilised skull from 300,000 years that reveals how homo sapiens is 100,000 years older than previously thought. She also looks at how our adaptability, passing on of knowledge and talent for abstract thinking allowed us to make weapons and withstand crises such as climate change. And in a cave in Botswana, she examines a stone carving that hints at how early humans carried out rituals.

Episode Two: Into the Unknown

This episode reveals how homo sapiens migrated from their original home in Africa around 60,000 years ago to settle in the Middle East and beyond. Ella travels to the Sri Lanka rainforest to see how we lived in the harsh jungle and even hunted monkeys. On the island of Flores in Indonesia, she uncovers more about a tiny human species, homo floresiensis, dubbed the ‘Hobbit’. And she also looks at how we became the first humans to travel across the ocean to Australia 45,000 years ago.

Episode Three: Last Humans Standing

Ella looks at how Neanderthals, our closest relatives, had lived in Europe for nearly 400,000 years, when homo sapiens arrived there almost 55,000 years ago and she unveils how Neanderthals had developed to withstand the cold and how we interbred with them. But by 30,000 years ago, we were the only human species left – did we play a role in Neanderthals’ decline? She also travels to a cave in Spain to see a chilling site where a Neanderthal family was murdered.

Episode Four: Discovering the Americas

Humans first migrated to the Americas during the Ice Age, when it was the last habitable continent. Ella looks at how we hunted giant bears, mammoths and sloths but as the climate shifted, these animals faced extinction so we turned to farming. She also examines fossilised footprints, possibly of a mother and her child, who could have been some of the first settlers in North America.

Episode Five: A Great Gamble

In the final instalment, Ella examines how, around 12,000 years ago, as the Ice Age drew to a close, humans started to make permanent settlements. In Turkey she visits the world’s oldest temple Gobekli Tepe, and an early town, Çatalhöyük, but cramped urban living brought disease and unrest. But in Egypt Ella finds out how cities thrived. And in a turquoise mine in the Sinai desert, she examines how migrant workers created the first alphabet.

Human – interview with Ella Al-Shamahi

There is more soap scheduling mayhem this week (Monday, July 7 - Friday, July 11) as summer sport takes over BBC One and ITV1.

This week, EastEnders will not air on Monday due to Wimbledon 2025 or on Tuesday due to a Women's Euros 2025 match between Poland and Sweden. Instead, the BBC One soap will air two episodes back to back on Wednesday at 8pm to 9pm and then 30-minute episodes on Thursday and Friday, both at 7pm.

However, there is good news for viewers who can't wait until Wednesday for their double dose of drama, because the BBC has confirmed that episodes will be dropping on BBC iPlayer from 6 am Monday to Thursday, as per its usual release schedule.

This week in EastEnders, Lauren and Peter's world is shattered when their kids go missing, Avani's birthday is overshadowed by secrets as Ravi gets himself into trouble and Callum looks like he is going to cheat on his husband Ben with Johnny.

Over on ITV1, things are just as chaotic.

Coronation Street will not air on Monday due to the Women’s Euros 2025 match between Portugal and Italy. There will also be no episode on Wednesday due to France v Wales, but an hour-long episode will air on Thursday at 9 pm instead. The ITV1 soap will air as normal on Friday at 8 pm.

Emmerdale will not air on Monday and Wednesday due to the same Women’s Euros 2025 matches and instead will air on Tuesday for half an hour at 7.30 pm, Thursday for an hour from 7.30 pm, and Friday will also see a half-hour episode air at 7.30 pm.

It has also been confirmed by ITV that Emmerdale and Coronation Street episodes will land on ITVX at 7 am on the day they are due to air on ITV1.

In Emmerdale this week, Cain is worried about Sarah after her awful baby news, while Joe is kidnapped by Dr Crowley, but what does the mad medic want with Joe?

Over in Weatherfield, Kevin Webster gets himself into a huge pickle as his lies spiral out of control, and Dee Dee goes behind James's back.

Update on Casualty's Summer schedule for Saturday 19 July 2025: There will be no episode of the long running medical drama.

Casualty is also not airing on Saturday 26 July 2025.

At the moment there's no confirmation when Casualty will return to the Saturday night schedules with it's next instalment Supply and Demand - Episode 5, where the action will pick up with paramedic Teddy Gowan continuing to keep his secret under wraps, suspicions growing among trusted colleagues and romance brewing between several medics...

We will update our Casualty Guide as soon as new transmission information becomes available.

There’s a Casualty-sized hole in the Saturday night TV schedules on July 5 2025, as BBC One gives way to Wimbledon 2025.

The tennis tournament began on Monday, 30 June, with BBC One, BBC Two and BBC iPlayer serving up live coverage.

Saturday marks day six of the broadcaster’s extensive coverage of the prestigious grass-court competition from the All England Club, where matches in the third round of the men's and ladies' singles are scheduled to take place. Clare Balding presents from 7.15pm until 10pm on BBC One.

Meanwhile, back in Holby, it’s all to play for…

In the previous Casualty outing, Supply and Demand - Episode 3, it was revealed that paramedic Iain Dean had been contacted by a local hospice concerning his absentee and alcoholic mother, Kim Harrison.

Kim was first introduced to the BBC medical drama in February 2017 during a Casualty episode called Binge Britain, where Iain ended up treating his mother after attending a shout-out regarding a drunken woman who’d fallen down a stairwell.

At that time, Iain hadn’t seen his mum in eight years. He was shocked to discover that Kim (played by Siân Reeves, Cutting It, Emmerdale, Mount Pleasant) was trying to escape loan sharks at the time of her accident and his little sister Gem (Rebecca Ryan, Shameless, Waterloo Road, Coronation Street) had been released from prison that same day.

From then on, Kim went on to wreak havoc in the medic’s life until her departure in March 2019, as Iain hit rock bottom after a series of tragic events, which culminated in the much-loved medic taking steps to end his own life.

No doubt, the return of Kim to life in the present day will bring up a lot of difficult memories for fan-favourite Iain Dean.

Speaking to What To Watch, Michael Stevenson told us that the phone call from the hospice is: “something Iain’s been expecting and has subconsciously swept under the carpet. Not only does it affect that day’s training, it affects him going forward.”

When will Casualty be back on?

Casualty returns to its Saturday night slot on BBC One on July 12, 2025 at 8.50 pm, when it will pick back up with Iain as he attempts to come to terms with what he’s just learned about his mum while he and Teddy are both exposed to danger on shift.

Elsewhere, nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) battles temptation at work and paramedic Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) faces a dead end in trying to help his son.

Meanwhile, the drug crisis flooding Holby continues to put pressure on emergency resources in this fourth instalment of Supply and Demand.

Netflix has added the hugely popular crime thriller, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, for UK audiences to watch at last, just ahead of the second season arriving.

The teen drama series, which is based on the brilliantly successful mystery novels by Holly Jackson, first aired for UK audiences last summer when it landed on BBC iPlayer. It then made it over to the US in August 2024 when the show was picked up by Netflix, and now the streaming site has added it for UK viewers, too.

The series follows Pip Fitz-Amobi, a teenager who becomes determined to solve the murder of a local schoolgirl, Andie Bell, after growing convinced that the police pinned the case on the wrong person when the crime happened five years ago.

At the time, Andie's boyfriend, Sal Singh, admitted to killing her before going on to take his own life. Case closed. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it. But smart and single-minded Pip isn't so sure, and she’s determined to prove it.

Pip soon finds herself obsessed with the cold case, and working alongside Sal's brother, Ravi, the pair realise that if Sal isn’t a murderer and the real killer is still out there, but how far will the murderer go to keep Pip from the truth?

The deeper Pip digs into the local mystery, the more secrets she unearths and the more danger she finds herself in. Is she willing to risk the lives of her loved ones in order to get to the truth?

With only six episodes that are just 40 minutes long, this is the sort of box set you can binge in a weekend. The episodes are gripping enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, but not so complicated that your head will be spinning with confusing clues by the end of each one.

We have also recapped every episode of the first season for you on What To Watch and we also have an ending explained (see above), so settle down on the sofa and dive into the world of Pip and her amazing crime-solving skills.

The series was commissioned for a second season earlier this year, and speaking of the news, author Holly Jackson says: “I am beyond thrilled that we can continue Pip’s story and, this time, I’m writing on the show! We owe everything to the dedicated fans!”

Poppy Cogan, the mastermind behind adapting the books for TV adds: “I'm delighted to be back in Little Kilton with Pip and friends for season two, and to have the opportunity to bring another of Holly's gripping stories to the screen.”

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 1 is available on BBC iPlayer and Netflix in the UK and Netflix in the US.

There is bad news for soap fans as a summer of sport has begun, meaning all our favourite shows are being moved about in the schedules. But, fear not, because we have got you covered with where to watch EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale — and when.

Michael Stevenson - new Casualty exclusive - spoilers beyond this point

In Casualty’s Supply and Demand - Episode 3 paramedic Iain Dean is shaken to the core after receiving a phone call confirming him as next of kin for an unknown person. Later, when talking to his wife Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) it becomes clear that his mum, Kim Harrison, is receiving end-of-life care at Willow Hill Hospice, but he is uncertain whether he wants to see her or not.

With his little sister Gemma (previously played by Shameless star Rebecca Ryan) now living in Thailand, it looks like Iain is feeling fresh responsibility towards his abusive, alcoholic mother Kim (previously played by Emmerdale star Siân Reeves).

Speaking to What to Watch earlier this month, Michael Stevenson, who plays the conflicted medic, has revealed that this news, “affects Iain going forward.” Full interview available here

How would you describe Kim, who was originally introduced during Casualty episode Binge Britain back in February 2017?

“She was horrible and not only did Iain have the horribleness of his mum but the aftermath of what she did to him in later episodes sparked off his depression and suicide storyline. There was a moment all those years ago, where all he wanted was for her to tell him she loved him and give him a hug. She didn’t and threw it back in his face, telling him that he was an attention seeker and had always been an attention seeker, sparking off a catalyst of horrible times for him. That ‘if it wasn't for her’ moment gets revisited, whether you see it physically or as he’s dealing with it mentally.”

A Call the Midwife movie is on the way, bringing all our Nonnatus House favourites to a cinema near you!

The new movie is set to pick up in the 1970s - where Call the Midwife season 15 (which is coming to our TV screens in early 2026) - will come to an end. However, series creator and showrunner Heidi Thomas has revealed that our much-loved nuns and midwives might be taking a holiday from Poplar...

Heidi said: "As the classic Call the Midwife series moves further into the 1970s, it also seems the perfect time for our much-loved regulars to take a short break from Poplar and test themselves in an unfamiliar landscape. The rise in hospital births and changes in the NHS have clipped their wings, and this is their chance to take flight and work out what really matters.

"Whilst the location of the film remains top-secret, I can say it is going to look absolutely fantastic on the big screen!”

Eva Yates, Director of BBC Film, added: “Call the Midwife has always brilliantly explored the issues and experiences of women across history and it is with great excitement that we are joining Pippa and Heidi in expanding the Midwife universe to bring these wonderful characters onto the big screen.”

It is a little too early for an official release date for the Call the Midwife movie; however, as it focuses on our current favourites from Poplar, filming will likely start after Call the Midwife season 15 has wrapped up production in the coming months.

As soon as we get more information on when the film will be released, we will update this guide.

Call the Midwife movie plot

Details of the movie location, plot and cinematic adventures of the midwives of Nonnatus House are being kept tightly under wraps, with the official BBC statement stating: "Further details about the film with BBC Film will be released later this year." As soon as anything is announced, we will update this guide.

One thing we do know is that, like the show itself, the movie will be written and produced by Heidi Thomas, the series creator who has helmed the stories of the midwives from the beginning.

We are yet to get a confirmed cast list from the BBC, however, it is thought that lots of our Nonnatus House favourites will be part of the movie.

This could include Helen George as Trixie Aylward, Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne, Linda Bassett as Nurse Phyllis Crane, Rebecca Gethings as Sister Veronica, Georgie Glen as Miss Higgins, Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan, Renee Bailey as Joyce Highland, and Natalie Quarry as Rosalind Clifford.

Molly Vevers joined the cast in Call the Midwife season 14 as Sister Catherine and could be part of the movie.

Stephen McGann could be part of the movie as Doctor Turner, along with Laura Main as his wife Shelagh Turner, and Max Macmillan as their son, Timothy Turner. Alice Brown could also be in the film as Angela Turner, April Rae Hoang as May Turner and Edward Shaw as Teddy Turner.

Other returning characters could be Cliff Parisi as Fred Buckle, Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle, Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson, and Zephryn Taitte as Cyril Robinson.

It's going to be a dramatic summer in EastEnders after Oscar Branning made his way home, bringing trouble with him.

After the return of Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) and her cousin Lauren on New Year's Day in 2024, the Branning brood just got bigger as Oscar returned after eight years.

Oscar was last seen on screen in 2017 when he made a brief visit to his dad, Max Branning (Jake Wood), on Father’s Day.

The reason behind Oscar's return was revealed when his sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) received an out-of-the-blue call to pick up Oscar from the youth detention centre.

Lauren was stunned to learn that the 17-year-old had been kicked out by their mum, Tanya Branning (Jo Joyner), after his gangster friend 'Fat Mike' tried to petrol bomb their home.

Oscar convinced Lauren to let him move in on the promise that he would behave, but with the gang still pursuing him, Lauren's life is bound to be turned upside down.

Since he last appeared in the soap as a nine-year-old, here's a refresher on who Oscar Branning is as he makes his return to EastEnders...

Who is Oscar Branning in EastEnders?

Oscar Branning was born on screen in 2007 and is the son of notorious womaniser Max and his wife, Tanya Branning. He is also the brother of Lauren and the late Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald).

Oscar last appeared as a child when Max's brother Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) arranged for him to see his son on Father's Day after Tanya took Oscar to Exeter following the breakdown of their marriage.

New executive producer Ben Wadey has reintroduced Oscar to the soap after already making an impact when he brought Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) back after two decades.

He said of Oscar's return: “I’m very excited to bring Oscar Branning back to Walford and introduce viewers to him now that he’s all grown up.

"Oscar is very much a Branning, which means there’s going to be plenty of drama in store this summer. We’re delighted to welcome Pierre as he takes on the role and can’t wait for viewers to see him bring Oscar to life.”

Trouble soon ensued once Oscar reunited with his sister as he spotted the gang nearby and hid along with Lauren, Peter Beale (Thomas Law) and Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).

Lauren and Peter attempted to impersonate police officers to scare them away, but as the thugs pulled out a cricket bat, Oscar hijacked a van and drove them all back to Albert Square where he soon came face-to-face with his uncle Jack.

Since then, he's already caused all sorts of mischief, including scamming Ian for cash and has even managed to secure work on the Beale's fruit and veg stall.

Who plays Oscar Branning in EastEnders?

Newcomer Pierre Moullier has been cast as Oscar, taking over the role from twins Charlee and Neo Hall.

Pierre has previously acted in Netflix's Fate: The Winx Saga and the Channel 4 series Cast Offs. He also has appeared in a number of stage productions such as The Second Woman, The Grand Duke of Florence and Cries from the Heart.

Speaking of joining the show, Pierre said: “It’s pretty surreal to join EastEnders - it keeps hitting me that I’m actually on Albert Square! When I found out I was joining the Brannings, it was so exciting as they are such an iconic family, and I love that there are so many skeletons in the closet.

"Oscar is so much fun to play, and the audience should be prepared for the unexpected as he’s a complex guy!”

What happened to Oscar Branning in EastEnders?

Oscar is the third child of Max and Tanya Branning who was born in the midst of Max's affair with daughter-in-law Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner).

After experiencing the highs and lows of Albert Square and his parents' turbulent marriage, Tanya and Oscar moved to Exeter in 2013 when she split from Max.

Oscar made a few brief returns in 2014 and 2015 when Max was arrested and charged with Lucy Beale's (Hetti Bywater) murder. His final appearance was on Father's Day in 2017 after Tanya wouldn't allow Max to see Oscar due to his part in conning the neighbours in revenge for being falsely imprisoned for murder.

Since then, Oscar has been living away from Walford with Tanya and told Jack that he last saw Max at Christmas in 2022. However, it won't be long until he becomes reacquainted with his estranged dad as it's been confirmed Jake Wood will be reprising the role later this year.

Jake said of returning to EastEnders: “I’m over the moon to be coming home to Walford. Max has got lots of unresolved drama with many characters, so I’m sure he’ll be busy. I’m excited to see what he’s been up to, and what is next for the character, but if his last 15 years in the Square are anything to go by, I’m sure there will be plenty of chaos.”

EastEnders Executive Producer, Ben Wadey added: “I’m delighted to welcome the immensely talented Jake Wood back to the role of Max Branning. Whilst his character has only been away from Albert Square for four years, Walford, and the lives of those who live in it, have changed immensely. Max has a lot of unfinished business, but whether he is welcomed by his family remains to be seen. However, with a past as checkered as Max’s, it’s fair to say that many Walford residents will not be pleased to see him, putting the Brannings back at the heart of the Square, and the drama, this year.”

The Call the Midwife world is expanding as the much-loved series takes us further into the past with an exciting spin-off show, set in London during World War Two.

The prequel to the beloved franchise was announced in May 2025 alongside the exciting news that we would also be getting a Call the Midwife movie as well as two Christmas specials in December 2025.

Not only that, we will also be seeing Call the Midwife season 15 arrive early next year as a new series traditionally follows the festive specials in January in the UK and March in the US.

The official statement from the BBC reads: "In an exciting new development, the world of Nonnatus House will also be expanding. A prequel TV series set in Poplar during World War Two will be made for the BBC in 2026. In addition, Neal Street, in development with BBC Film, are producing a Call the Midwife film. This will be set overseas in 1972 and feature iconic characters from the existing TV show."

Call the Midwife prequel release date

It is too early to know when the Call the Midwife prequel might arrive, but we do know it is some time away, as filming has not yet started.

With Call the Midwife season 15 pencilled in for January 2026, the prequel is likely to air at some point later that year.

One thing we do know is that it is likely to air on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer in the UK and over on PBS in the US.

Call the Midwife prequel plot

While it is also a little too early to know exact plot details for the spin-off, we do know that it will be set in Poplar during the Blitz.

The new series will add more backstory to the already rich history of the nuns and midwives at Nonnatus House, giving us a chance to see what happened in Poplar before we met the characters in season 1.

Series creator Heidi Thomas said: "The Blitz years in the East End were extraordinary - filled with loss, togetherness, courage and joy. The bombs fell, the babies kept on coming, and the Sisters kept on going."

In a press statement, the director of BBC Drama, Lindsay Salt, added: "Call the Midwife has been a jewel in the BBC's crown for well over a decade, and this feels like the perfect time to further expand on the glorious, perfectly realised world that Heidi, Pippa, Annie and the team have created for the show's millions of passionate and dedicated viewers.

"Whether you've been watching from the very start or joined us for one of the more recent series, this is an incredibly exciting time to be a Call the Midwife fan."

Call the Midwife prequel cast

While the cast for the new series is being kept tightly under wraps for now, Heidi Thomas said: "There will be so much in the prequel for our wonderful, loyal fans, including the appearance of some familiar (if much younger!) faces."

It is unlikely that we will see fan favourites such as Trixie Aylward (Helen George) in the series due to when the series will be set, but other beloved characters could have pivotal roles in the spin-off, like Sister Monica Joan and Sister Julienne. Could we be seeing these much-loved characters as young nuns, doing their midwifery training during the war?

There is also hope that young versions of fan favourites Phyllis Crane and Millicent Higgins could appear in the new series, with Blitz stories of their own.

The BBC has responded to shock reports that Call the Midwife is coming to an end, and it's good news for fans of the much-loved period drama.

Viewers had been left worried about the future of their favourite show after a source reportedly told The Daily Star: "After years of drama and countless births, Call The Midwife is coming to an end. The team has decided it’s time to draw the show to a close and bow out. This is the last we’ll see of these much-loved characters. Storylines will tie up a lot of loose ends."

However, the BBC has been quick to reassure fans, releasing a statement confirming that the show isn't going anywhere.

It was announced this morning, Thursday, June 26: "The BBC would like to reassure fans that Call The Midwife will remain at the heart of the BBC for years to come. As previously announced, there are two Christmas specials, a new series, a film and prequel series, before a sixteenth series in due course. Call the Midwife isn’t going anywhere.”

As fans will already know, filming for Call the Midwife season 15 is well underway, and as part of the new series, we will also be treated to two Christmas specials later this year.

It was announced back in May that the world of Call the Midwife would be expanding with an official statement revealing we would be getting a spin-off set during the Blitz, plus a new movie.

The BBC said at the time: "In an exciting new development, the world of Nonnatus House will also be expanding. A prequel TV series set in Poplar during World War Two will be made for the BBC in 2026.

"In addition, Neal Street, in development with BBC Film, are producing a Call the Midwife film. This will be set overseas in 1972 and feature iconic characters from the existing TV show."

Details of this year's festive special were also announced, revealing that the show would be going beyond Poplar and overseas: "A two-part Christmas Special, set in Hong Kong and Poplar, will be followed by eight new hour-long episodes set in the East End, coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One from January 2026.

"When senior members of the Nonnatus House staff head to Hong Kong on a mercy mission, the younger midwives are left to cope alone. As the Christmas action shifts between the sun-drenched Far East and a snowy East End, Sister Julienne suddenly finds herself excited about the Order’s future. After years of battling change, she decides to embrace it, work with it, and see what love can do.

"This change of energy reverberates throughout series 15. The new series kicks off in 1971 with several of the ladies embracing Women’s Lib and burning their bras outside Nonnatus House. As the year unfolds, we see the team handle cases including premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis and slavery."

All episodes of Call the Midwife seasons 1-14 are available on BBC iPlayer and the new season of the show will land at Christmas 2025.

A festive adaptation from the UK’s number one picture book creators, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, has become a Christmas tradition, and this year we will see The Scarecrows' Wedding arrive on BBC One with an all-star voice cast.

The story is about two devoted scarecrows, Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay, who are planning a wedding to remember. The official BBC synopsis says it is a tale 'full of heart, humour and adventure, and about loyalty, love and learning that the most important thing isn’t a grand gesture – it’s simply being together.'

After the success of animations such as last year's Tiddler, plus previous adaptations such as Tabby McTat, The Smeds and the Smoos, Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Superworm, Stick Man, The Snail and the Whale and Room on the Broom, this marks the 13th animated special of Julia and Axel's work produced by Magic Light Pictures for the BBC.

Speaking of her book coming to the TV, author Julia Donaldson says: "The Scarecrows’ Wedding is my favourite of all the books I've created with Axel Scheffler, so I'm extra specially pleased that it is to be this year's animated adaptation from Magic Light Pictures.

"It's a love story set on a farm by the sea, and the story contains a lot of comedy and a Hollywood-style villain. (I thought of David Niven when I created that character.) The cast has brought such warmth and playfulness to the characters of Betty and Harry and the various animals, and Reginald Rake played by Rob Brydon is a real cad!"

The half-hour animated special features an all-star voice cast with returning favourite Rob Brydon (Gavin and Stacey, The Trip) voicing Reginald Rake, Jessie Buckley (Wicked Little Letters, Wild Rose) as Betty O’Barley, Domhnall Gleeson (About Time, Alice and Jack) as Harry O’Hay, all led by Sophie Okonedo (Slow Horses, Hotel Rwanda) as the Narrator.

The official synopsis from the BBC reads: "The Scarecrows' Wedding is an enchanting story about two devoted scarecrows, Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay, who are planning a wedding to remember.

"When Harry insists on leaving the farm to collect one last thing for their big day, a smooth-talking scarecrow named Reginald Rake swoops in with plans of his own.

The Scarecrows’ Wedding is adapted from the hugely successful picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

The film is the 13th animated special of their work to be produced by Magic Light Pictures for the BBC.

Last year’s animation, Tiddler, saw an audience of 7.3 million and the highest audience share on Christmas Day for a Magic Light Pictures film since The Gruffalo in 2009.

The Scarecrows’ Wedding is directed by Samantha Cutler and Jeroen Jaspaert and produced by Barney Goodland and Michael Rose of Magic Light Pictures. The film was acquired by Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer and Nawfal Faizullah, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor.

The Great British Sewing Bee 2025 once again brought us a new gang of amateur sewers who competed against one another to impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.

12 competitor stitchers from across the country took on a series of tough challenges set by the judges each week and on Tuesday, September 16 Caz, from Staffordshire, was crowned the winner of the 11th series.

The Great British Sewing Bee 2025 started on Tuesday, July 15 at 9 pm on BBC One and the final aired on Tuesday, September 16, at 9 pm on BBC One.

Who won The Great British Sewing Bee 2025?

Caz, from Staffordshire, was crowned the winner of the 11th series. Her win came after the 60-year-old won garment of the week three times during the show's design icons week, Korea week and kids week.

"I am totally overwhelmed and I still feel quite emotional about it all, it hasn't quite sunk in," she said.

"Of course my husband and family knew, but I only confided in one friend and one only, so it will be a surprise to a lot of people that know me. Even my parents didn't know."

She said she was "thrilled" to get her daughter Florence on the show as her model, adding that she had the "best day ever".

"That was more important for me than anything else," Caz said. "As a family, we don't generally use the word proud but I think on this occasion we will allow it."

How does the The Great British Sewing Bee 2025 work?

Each week, the contestants must take part in three challenges: a Pattern Challenge to test their basic dressmaking skills, a Transformation Challenge to assess their creativity, plus a Made To Measure Challenge to create a bespoke garment.

One contestant's creation is awarded Garment Of The Week by the judges, and another is sent home from the competition.

The grand final sees the remaining three sewers battle it out to be crowned the winner.

Week 10 - Tuesday, September 16 - FINAL
It's sewing machines at the ready as the finalists tackle three challenges in their bid to be crowned this year's winner. They begin by following the pattern for a deceptively simple bias-cut slip dress, where one mistake in cutting the fabric could cost them the chance to continue. In the transformation challenge, they make garments using sheer fabric, before finally tackling the art of trompe l'oeil, creating illusions with fabric to fit their chosen friend or family member. Three finalists, three challenges - but only one will be crowned as the latest champion.

Week 9 - Tuesday, September 9
The remaining sewers take on three 1920s-inspired challenges in the hope of making it to the final. They begin by recreating the iconic plus fours, a staple of outdoor pursuits from the era, then go on to make modern, block-coloured garments from a selection of polo shirts, invented by tennis player René Lacoste. In the made-to-measure challenge, the semi-finalists embrace the revolutionary fashion of this iconic decade to make an outfit for a 1920s party.

Week 8 - Tuesday, September 2
The sewers tackle three challenges inspired by the silver screen, beginning by following a pattern for a jacket like the one worn by actress Tippi Hedren in Hitchcock classic The Birds. They let their imaginations run wild in the made-to-measure round as they design an outfit for a horror movie character, and the transformation task sees them turning red cinema curtains and tiebacks into a glamorous outfit for a Hollywood party. Gaynor went home this week.

Week 7 - Tuesday, August 26
The sewers tackle three art-inspired challenges, beginning by following a pattern for a baby-doll dress, taking inspiration from award-winning potter Grayson Perry, before turning used painters' overalls into an asymmetric outfit in the Transformation round. For the made-to-measure challenge, the sewers embrace the bold colours and shapes of pop art as they create garments that capture the essence of the post-war movement. Stuart went home this week.

Week 6 - Tuesday, August 19
It's children's week in the sewing room, with the contestants introducing elements of adaptive fashion as they tackle a pattern for a pair of mini dungarees. The made-to-measure task sees them creating outfits inspired by what their young models want to be when they grow up, ranging from polar explorer to beekeeper to politician, and in the transformation challenge, they repurpose maternity wear into toddler outfits. Dan went home this week.

Week 5 - Tuesday, August 12
The sewers tackle the fast fashion industry in Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Week, in which none of the fabric in the haberdashery is new. They begin by creating a zero-waste workwear jacket, then breathe new life into discarded camping gear as they transform tents into complete outfits. In the made-to-measure round, the sewers must raid their wardrobes and those of family and friends to create fresh outfits from garments no longer worn. This week Jess went home.

Week 4 - Tuesday, August 5
Judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant set the contestants three challenges that celebrate the rich fashion and textile traditions of Korea, including following the pattern for the jeogori — a historic Korean jacket now seen in contemporary womenswear and K-Pop. The sewers also design evening wear inspired by a garment once worn by Korean military officials and transform taekwondo outfits and colourful belts into striking new creations. This week Novello was sent home.

Week 3 - Tuesday, July 29
It’s Design Icons Week, so style and glamour is the name of the game for the remaining contestants. Can they successfully stitch together a Diane von Furstenberg-inspired wrap dress, transform home furnishings into Vivienne Westwood-esque punk looks, then navigate the Made to Measure task where they must create a glamorous garment with a nod to Versace? This week, Glendora was sent home.

Week 2 - Tuesday, July 22
Patrick and Esme put the sewers through their paces with three challenges themed around activewear. First, the sewers take on a technical pattern challenge, constructing a seven-panel cap, while, before they give new life to unwanted cycling gear, turning it into stylish new garments. Finally, in the made-to-measure, the sewers must create an athleisure outfit - something practical enough for the gym, but stylish enough for a coffee shop. Despite putting in their best efforts throughout the challenge, it was Saffie and Peter who were sent home.

Week 1 - Tuesday, July 15
Judges Patrick and Esme challenge the sewers to prove their ability to create shape. First up, the Pattern Challenge sees them crafting a tie-front blouse, using gathers to add volume. Next, in the 90-minute Transformation Challenge, circle skirts are reimagined into brand new garments. Finally, the Made-to-Measure challenge tests their skills with pleats as they design a perfectly shaped dress. No one went home this week.

Caz, 59 - retired from Staffordshire - WINNER

Caz grew up in an old railway station with her parents and sister before heading off to study print and print management in Nottingham. She's been married to her husband Darius, for 28 years and they have two children, Florence and Cyrus. Also sharing the family home are their two large cats Oggy and Buzz.

Caz has recently “retired” after running the family printing business for the last 30 years. Caz loved working with the printing presses - often getting covered in as much ink as the items she was printing. She claims she might get another job but is enjoying having more time for sewing!

Kit, 24 - a Digital Marketer from Manchester (Went home in week 9)

Kit grew up in Surrey with their parents, brother and sister. In primary school, their mother started teaching their sister to sew sock puppets, so Kit taught themself out of spite. Kit then tried to sell their creations at school and got in trouble for trying to start a business! They picked up the hobby again at uni and have since been making a garment every week. Kit will often explore a haberdashery and look for the most “awful” fabrics, on a mission to turn them into something beautiful. Kit also enjoys something he call “pointless fashion”, describing this style as “so camp! Wearing something so utterly useless but looking fabulous”. Kit’s “pointless” concepts range from mesh hoodies to a coat held together with chains.

Gaynor, 72 - Retired Office Manager from Port Talbot, Wales (Went home in week 8)

Proudly Welsh, Gaynor has been with her husband for 47 years. Together they have three sons and seven grandchildren (who they love spending time with), aged from 3 to 15, and who call them Nain and Taid. She has made many outfits for the grandchildren’s school plays and fancy-dress costumes for one of her daughters in law. Family is really important to Gaynor, some who live close by in South Wales, and she has spent time tracing her family tree back to the 1600s! And, of course, let’s not forget Willow, the cat; Rowan, the Doberman and Bridie, the Lurcher, Gaynor loves a large dog and enjoys nothing more than stomping up local mountain Drymmau or down the nearby sand dunes with her husband and the dogs.

Jess, 33 - Head of Communications in London (Went home in week 5)

Jess grew up in Berkshire with her parents and sister, surrounded by women who valued making things well and making them last. Sewing is a way to connect with her mother, aunts, and grandmother, who first taught her. A lover of vintage, Jess often wears clothes made by her mum and aunty decades ago, carefully overlocked and looked after to stand the test of time. She now lives in South-East London and is Head of Communications at a news production company, a job she enjoys for its day-to-day variety and problem-solving focus.

Órla, 19 - Café Worker and Student from Inverness - FINALIST

Proud Highlander Órla is a German and Scandinavian student at the University of Edinburgh. An avid fan of languages, she is fluent in Scottish Gaelic and is often inspired by her Gaelic heritage. She is very close with her family, with them performing together as a family folk band, combining traditional Irish, Gaelic and wider Celtic sounds with original compositions. At home in Inverness, she works in a café with her sibling Ró and enjoys going out with her friends. When back at Uni, she loves exploring the city, getting involved with society events and of course creating wild looks for student fashion shows!

Peter, 45 - Senior Pre-Construction Manager from Devon (Went home in week 2)

Peter is married to primary school teacher Becky and together they share a son and two daughters. It was watching Sewing Bee with his daughters that sparked their interest in sewing and together they have been learning how to make their own clothes. One daughter prefers sewing more relaxed and baggy clothes whereas the other follows fashion trends and loves skirts and dresses. They all sew on Peter’s granny's vintage Singer sewing machine and he loves knowing 4 generations have crafted and created on the same machine. His daughters pushed him to apply, and they will definitely be helping him design his Made to Measures!

Glendora, 59 - Bus Driver from Luton (Went home in week 3)

Born in Oxhey, near Watford and now residing in Luton with her two cats Joujou and Tigra, Glendora is a woman of many talents and stories. Glendora is from a large family, with 8 siblings and a mix of half-brothers and sisters. Her upbringing in Oxhey as the only Black family in an all-white area has shaped her understanding of cultural identity. Her mother’s involvement in the Afro-Caribbean society in Watford brought West Indian culture to the community through food and music events, fostering a sense of belonging and cultural pride. Since 2006, Glendora has been a bus driver, a job she loves for its variety and the time it allows her to enjoy her home life. Transitioning from driving the iconic double-decker buses in London to handling local services, Glendora finds joy in the diversity of her passengers and the ever-changing nature of her routes. As one of the few women in a predominantly male industry, she relishes breaking the mold and being part of the growing number of female bus drivers.

Yasmin, 30 - Research and Development Scientist from Gateshead - FINALIST

Research and Development Scientist Yasmin lives in Gateshead with fiancée and resident doctor Sophie. Yasmin comes from a family where fixing, mending and making was always preferred over buying new, but it was her dad who really taught her how to make her own clothes from scratch. Yasmin’s dad was an engineer and talented self-taught tailor (although sewing fast was not in his wheelhouse – he could spend hours hand-basting a sleeve!). They always joked that they would apply for the Sewing Bee as a dad/daughter duo but after he passed away in 2023, she wanted to apply in his memory. The last item they made together was a vibrant pink zebra dress that she wore to his brightly-coloured funeral. He continues to be her biggest inspiration and will be with her all the way.

Novello, 66 - Family Business Owner and Magistrate from London (Went home in week 4)

Novello is the matriarch of a wonderfully eclectic family that spans continents. She's the proud mum of three dynamic grown-ups: a daughter and two sons, living fascinating lives in London, the New Forest, and Mexico. With nine spirited grandchildren aged one to eighteen, her life is always full of youthful energy. Novello’s family puzzle also includes two stepchildren from her late husband and three more from her current husband, Andrew. Growing up in the Welsh valleys with four boisterous brothers and one sister, all with names beginning with 'N'.

Dan, 37 - Performer from Durham (Went home in week 6)

Dan grew up in a close-knit village in Durham and currently shares a home there with his sister, while his partner Joel pursues career opportunities in Ireland. Despite the distance, they are making it work and are eagerly planning to reunite in Ireland soon. From a young age, Dan has been drawn to the stage. His passion for performance led him to become a versatile entertainer, skilled in fire breathing, stilt walking, angle grinder acts and dance. His career as a performer took off alongside his entrepreneurial spirit, founding Legacy, an events company supplying dynamic entertainers across the Northeast.

Saffie, 32 - Lecturer in Product & Industrial Design from London (Went home in week 2)

Saffie lives in a live/work studio in Haggerston with her partner Fred. She has a rich multicultural background including Jamaican, Guyanese, and English heritage. Growing up in North London, she was surrounded by a close-knit family including a brother and a twin sister, with whom she shares a special bond, despite being non-identical and completely different in personalities. Saffie fondly remembers her grandmother, whose hidden stash of vintage fabrics from Ridley Road markets in the 60s and 70s inspired her passion for sewing.

Stuart, 53 - Premises Manager from Herefordshire (Went home in week 7)

Originally from Surrey, Stuart now resides in a charming village in Herefordshire. Stuart balances his life as a dedicated premises manager with his loving family, including his wife and three children as well as their mischievous Border Terrier, Treacle. Stuart’s family are not just supportive; they’re active participants in his creative adventures, often bringing him clothes to mend with his meticulous sewing skills.

Speaking of the series last year, Patrick told us: "I’m absolutely delighted that the show is still popular. It’s one of the warmest and kindest shows on the telly."

Last year, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, who took part in the celebrity festive edition of the sewing contest in 2021, took over hosting duties while regular presenter, comedian Sara Pascoe, was on maternity leave.

Sara is now back in her presenting role and is ready to help the sewers through their challenges for the 2025 series.

Who won The Great British Sewing Bee 2024?

Classically-trained musician Luke was crowned winner of The Great British Sewing Bee 2024. The diversity, equality and inclusion director wowed the judges throughout the series with their bold, stylish designs and clever use of fabrics.

After Esme and Patrick announced Luke as the winner and handed them the gold trophy, they said: “Honestly, this just doesn't feel real. Never did I think I'd get close to the final, let alone win – this is wild! I'm so proud of myself and I don't tend to say that a lot, but I'm really proud of myself."

Life’s about to get even more complicated for neurotic Josie, wayward sister Billie and their desperate mum Deb as BAFTA-winning comedy Such Brave Girls season 2 arrives.

All six episodes of this second series are available in the UK on Thursday, July 3, on BBC3 and BBC iPlayer.

In the US, the series lands on Hulu on Monday, July 7.

The raucous, unflinching comedy is created by Kat Sadler, who penned Such Brave Girls after being sectioned for her mental health in 2020, and who plays straight-laced Josie in the show.

Kat's joined once again by her real-life sister Lizzie Davidson as Josie's polar opposite sister Billie. Completing the family set-up is Louise Brealey as their high-maintenance mum, Deb.

Completing the line-up once again are Paul Bazely as dependable Dev, with Freddie Meredith as socially awkward Seb.

What's happening as we re-join our Such Brave Girls?

The better question would be what isn't happening!? It's clear that deluded mum Deb hasn't given up on her campaign to ensure that her and her chalk-and-cheese daughters Josie and Billie can escape their humdrum reality and secure a better life.

Deb is a woman with a plan - and she's certain Dev and Seb can come to the rescue...

"Everyone’s on a different quest for love, but this show has to make it impossible for them to ever experience that," says Kat.

"Deb wants to be free from the trauma of Billie and Josie but has a full-on crisis with Dev. Josie’s still obsessed with her mental health and Seb’s like the comfort blanket she doesn’t want to take off because the real world’s too scary. He feels the same, so they’ve decided to put all their eggs in each other’s baskets. This series also brings out Billie’s 'daddy issues'."

Are there any guest stars this series?

There are indeed. Billie is optimistic she’s finally found The One in Graham… except he’s a LOT older. Oh, and married! Graham is played by The Bay and Mount Pleasant star Daniel Ryan.

"We get to explore the power dynamic in age-gap relationships; usually it’s the man in the driving seat but, here, Billie’s in complete control and is the one taking advantage," says Lizzie, who enjoyed working with Daniel.

"He’s the sweetest guy. We immediately set boundaries, so nothing was ever awkward, then just ended up laughing the whole time."

Is Such Brave Girls based on real life?

"A lot of what happens is drawn from reality," confirms Kat. "Luckily, me and Lizzie have a treasure trove of trauma that we have mined to make the show. It’s helped that we've lived quite feral lives!"

Has Such Brave Girls won any awards?

Exploring mental health issues, unwanted pregnancies and death through the medium of comedy was always going to be a risky proposition. But Kat Sadler needn’t have worried - fans and critics loved the raucous, unflinching comedy, with the show scooping not one but TWO gongs at the 2024 BAFTAs: for Scripted Comedy and Emerging Talent.

"We knew we were coming from a place of truth but you can’t control how other people are going to feel watching it, so I was nervous right up until the show went out," Kat admits.

"Winning both BAFTAs was a lovely seal of approval but it was nerve-wracking figuring out what to do for series two. I wish I hadn’t put the awards by my bed - it’s like they’re watching me every night, asking: 'Are you sure you’ve done enough'?"

What to Watch says...

We absolutely think Kat's 'done enough'. If you haven't caught onto Such Brave Girls yet, now is the time to binge series one on iPlayer before this new series starts.

Such Brave Girls once again sails very close to the wind in terms of both its humour and how it's unafraid to tackle serious issues head-on. But this is to its credit. With some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments, this second series is well on course to scoop up the gongs again come awards season.

California Avenue is a new BBC One drama set in a 1970s caravan park. By award-winning writer and director Hugo Blick, the cast includes Bill Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter, Erin Doherty and Tom Burke. 

Set in a secluded canal-side caravan park in the English countryside, the six-parter follows Lela (Erin Doherty) who is on the run with her 11-year-old child. Bill Nighy and Helena Bonham Carter play Lela’s parents, Jerry and Eddie, while Strike star Tom Burke is the outcast, Cooper. 

“Over the past few decades, whether through comedy, political dramas or even a western, I’ve looked to explore what television fiction can be,” says Hugo Blick. “California Avenue is an exploration of the people who inspired me to want to do this.”

California Avenue follows Lela, who is on the run with her child and looks for refuge in the hidden world of a canal-side trailer park. The BBC press synopsis says, ‘it is here that a fractured family will come together, ghosts and demons will firmly be put to rest and an unexpected love is forged.’

Erin Doherty plays runaway Lela. She recently starred in the hit Netflix series Adolescence and played the young Princess Anne in The Crown. She’s also starred in A Thousand Blows, Chloe, Reawakening, Firebrand and Call The Midwife. 

Bill Nighy as Jerry

Bill Nighy is playing Lela’s dad Jerry. He’s been in a host of hit movies including Love Actually, Joy, The Beautiful Game, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Constant Gardener, Pirates of the Caribbean, Notes on a Scandal and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. 

Helena Bonham Carter as Eddie

Helena Bonham Carter is playing Lela’s mum Eddie. Helena has also had a stellar career, gaining recognition for the 1980s movie A Room With A View, but has since had notable roles in Nolly, The Crown, Cinderella, the Harry Potter movies, Les Misérables, The King’s Speech, Planet of the Apes and Alice in Wonderland. 

Tom Burke as Cooper

Tom Burke plays an 'outsider' called Cooper. He’s best known for the BBC1 series Strike and has also been in The Wonder, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Lazarus Project, The Musketeers and War and Peace.

Behind the scenes, filming news and more about California Avenue

California Avenue started filming during the summer of 2025 in and around Hertfordshire in southern England.

It's produced by Drama Republic, makers of One Day and Doctor Foster, and created, written, and directed by Hugo Blick (see more on him below). The producer is Colin Wratten (The English, Lockerbie: A Search for Truth), and the executive producers are Hugo Blick for Eight Rooks, Greg Brenman for Drama Republic, Bill Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter, and Lucy Richer for the BBC. Mediawan Rights and Entourage Media will distribute the series internationally.

Gladiators 2026 is on the way, once again reuniting us with our favourite Lycra-clad superhumans as they battle it out with a new batch of fit and eager contenders.

The new 11-part series was announced in June 2025 - along with the news we will also be getting another celebrity special at the end of the year, just like we did in 2024.

When the BBC rebooted the 90s show Gladiators in 2004, no one could have predicted just how successful the series' return would be. Since then, the show has quickly become a Saturday night sensation, averaging 5.3 million viewers each week, making it the most-watched Saturday night series on BBC iPlayer.

While we are still waiting for a release date from the BBC, the new series of Gladiators traditionally hits our screens at the start of the year, so we expect this new series to be released in January 2026.

As soon as we have an official release date, we will update this guide. In the meantime, you can stream all past episodes of Gladiators now on BBC iPlayer.

Father-and-son duo Bradley Walsh and Barney Walsh are back once again to host the third series of Gladiators, which is filmed at Sheffield's Utilita Arena.

It is thought that ex-Premier League ref Mark Clattenburg, fitness pro Lee Phillips and former international netball player Sonia Mkoloma will all be back to make sure the challenges are fair and square.

Voice-over commentary for the series is provided by former football commentator Guy Mowbray.

After 11 weeks of being chased around the arena in giant metal balls, taking fierce tackles in Powerball, being pushed over The Edge and racing up The Wall Amanda Wah from Warrington and Joe Fishburn from Scarborough were crowned Gladiators Champions 2025.

It has been announced today that BBC Saturday night sensation Gladiators has been renewed for a third series — and that there is also another celebrity spin-off on the way, too.

When the BBC rebooted the 90s show Gladiators in 2004, I was excited to see the series back on my screen, especially as this time around, I have a young family to settle down with on a Saturday evening and watch together. However, no one could predict just how huge the show's comeback would be.

After two hugely successful seasons, Bradley and Barney Walsh will oversee proceedings for series three as Apollo, Athena, Bionic, Comet, Cyclone, Diamond, Dynamite, Electro, Fire, Fury, Giant, Hammer, Legend, Nitro, Phantom, Sabre, Steel, and Viper return to the arena.

The Gladiators will showcase their power, agility and banter against courageous contenders from the general public, and as always, a loyal audience will pack out Sheffield Arena to see their favourite superheroes in action.

Despite the show's format remaining very close to the original series, each year, bosses add new courses and challenges and 2026 is no different, with the BBC promising the new series is set to be the biggest yet.

But that's not the only good news for Gladiators fans, because we are also being treated to another celebrity spin off, where once again we will see four brave celebrities taking on the toughest test on TV as they enter the arena in a bid to prove they have the power to succeed and emerge victorious.

Since its return, Gladiators has quickly become a Saturday night sensation, averaging 5.3 million and with nearly two-fifths streaming on demand, making it the most watched Saturday night series on BBC iPlayer.

Paramedic Iain Dean embarks on a new chapter of his career when he joins the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) for a decisive training session, but will a ghost from the past derail his hopes and dreams?

This week, Iain (Michael Stevenson) is excited to be training alongside HART. He's also determined to impress team leader Tim Matthews (Ross Waiton, The Devil’s Hour) and dead-set on landing a permanent placement with the high-risk medics… Despite his wife Faith’s anxieties about the dangers involved!

As Iain and fellow paramedic Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) - who is also looking for a new challenge - prepare to be put through their paces, HART expert Tim explains that he will be testing their physical and mental fitness. He also warns them that if they fail any part of the course, they’re out!

The pair get off to a competitive start, however, Iain’s many years of experience shine through initially. Yet, his confidence and focus are suddenly shattered when he answers a mystery phone call just before a task involving toxic chemicals!

A lot of relationships are going to be fractured…”

Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) spirals when she wakes up beside a stranger and attempts to perform damage control with her son, Obi (terrific young actor Aryel Tsoto), after leaving him home alone overnight. He’s not buying her version of events however, and things nosedive from there…

What follows is a make-or-break shift, made worse by a banging hangover, a blazing row with her ex, Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson), and a dreadful patient mistake.

Rida Amaan starts her first shift as a Band 6 nurse and she’s given a warm welcome by her colleagues. Clinical nurse manager, Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill), however, has some words of advice - don’t be afraid to put your foot down.

Soon Rida (Sarah Seggari) realises the value of Siobhan’s wisdom when close pal and housemate Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell) fails to accept that she’s in charge.

How will Jodie react when Rida pushes back?

Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) has something serious on his mind… Watch this space for a shock new storyline for the paramedic!

It seems to be a day for unwanted phone calls... Nicole is unimpressed when she is contacted by Obi's school. Is he okay?

Meanwhile, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) suspects that Ngozi may not be fit for duty and requests permission to perform a breathalyser test. She reluctantly agrees… What will the results say? And will Dylan be forced to take official action?

With the drug crisis showing no signs of abating, Dylan has an idea about easing the stress on the ED, which also may save lives. However, when he takes a course of immediate action in relation to a particularly vulnerable patient, clinical lead Flynn Bryon (Olly Rix) is fuming!

What has Dylan done? Is he justified? And are the two medics headed for another altercation? (Ahh go on, it makes for good watching!)

And, finally, Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) is a tower of support for Iain when he later tells her about the call he received during his HART training, which is good news for fans of the newlyweds, as the paramedic is headed into a complex and emotional storyline…

EastEnders fans were treated to a huge episode on Monday (June 16) when the first episode from new executive producer Ben Wadey aired after he took over the reins from Chris Clenshaw.

Not only did Zoe Slater make a huge comeback to our screens after 20 years away, but we also saw a current storyline involving newcomer Joel take a shocking turn.

However, since then, fans have become convinced that the two characters making waves in the same episode isn't a coincidence and that there is a chance Zoe could be Joel's long-lost mum.

The theory, which isn't wildly unbelievable considering the timelines work out, also matches up with the fact Joel has told his best friend Tommy Moon that his mum abandoned him when he was a baby, hinting at why he thinks so little of women.

Over recent weeks, Joel has been displaying worrying behaviour as he convinced Tommy to look at x-rated sites on Alfie's laptop and filmed himself having sex with schoolgirl Avani Nandra-Hart and later showed the footage to Tommy in a bid to impress him.

Things took an even more worrying turn when, earlier this week, Joel assaulted a woman on the London Underground and got Tommy to unwittingly film it. However, while Tommy was sickened by the whole thing, Joel still didn't seem to grasp the enormity of what he had done, even when TFL staff got involved.

But the biggest clue yet that fan theories about Zoe and Joel are correct came when Joel protested to his dad, Ross, that he regretted what he did on the tube, but Ross's partner, Vicky, didn't believe a word of what he said.

Throwing Joel against the wall, she told the teenager that nothing like this could ever happen again, and he retaliated by telling her 'You're not my mum, you can't tell me what to do," echoing the infamous 'you're not my mother' scene between Kat and Zoe many years ago.

Could this be confirmation that Zoe is Joel's mum, or simply a red herring?

While some fans are convinced Zoe is the mum who abandoned her son all those years ago, others think that maybe her friend Kelly Taylor from the 2001-2004 era of the show is Joel's biological mum. Kelly also has a link to Vicky, as she dated Spencer Moon back in the day, the ex that Vicky left for Ross back in Australia.

Either way, there is a strong chance that when Zoe and Joel come face to face, Zoe will recognise the teenager. What are your theories? Let us know in the comments below.

Elinor Lawless admits that her fiercely independent and much-loved Casualty character, Stevie Nash, has been through a lot in recent months. After the death of her partner Rich Walker (Michael Keogh) in February, the doctor experienced a false-positive pregnancy test, which led to a cancer diagnosis.

“Stevie has been battered by the fates,” says Elinor when she joins us for an exclusive interview. “I've never felt her to be as scared as she is in this storyline. For the first time, she is really terrified - and she hates being afraid."

Now, having recovered from major surgery and completed chemotherapy treatment, Stevie returns to Holby ED in Casualty’s Supply and Demand - Episode 2. But there's no such thing as a gentle launch, as the doctor is plunged into Holby’s drug crisis, while dealing with complex, private emotions.

Working more closely with her friend from medical school, clinical lead Flynn Bryon (Olly Rix), seems to help bring her back to herself a little. However, then he has to go and spoil it all!

Stevie Nash is back! But all is not well…

Stevie Nash feels ready to ease herself back into work this week following her chemotherapy treatment - but unfortunately for the consultant, the timing is terrible.

On her first day back, Stevie (Elinor Lawless) finds herself in the middle of Holby City’s drug crisis. And, adding to the pressure, clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) throws her into the deep end.

Prior to her first shift, a cancer professional queries whether it’s too soon for her to be returning, but Stevie admits she’s excited to return.

However, something the doctor is keeping to herself, is that she’s experiencing peripheral myopathy.

“It’s a common side effect of some chemo drugs and causes her hands to feel like they’re on fire, which constantly reminds Stevie that she was sick,” Elinor Lawless tells us in an exclusive interview, adding: “In terms of Stevie’s recovery, it’s way too soon for her to return, but she needs it to feel normal…”

Grim reality

The Holby emergency services face a crisis quite unlike anything in their history, as overdose victims suffering the effects of laced drugs, coupled with a shortage of life-saving medications, sees bodies literally piling up in the ED.

As a result, Flynn ends up leaving Stevie alone in resus, dealing with the disaster when he’s called away… Is he expecting too much too soon?

Flynn hearts Stevie?

Later in the episode, Flynn joins Stevie on her daily swim where she opens up to him about how she’s feeling about being labelled as a warrior when she believes she's anything but.

Flynn - who is now openly indulging in extra-curricular dalliances since the breakdown of his marriage to wife Claire - takes this rekindled closeness with his former medical student pal as a signal to make a move.

Given everything she’s been through, how will Stevie react?

There are big changes coming to EastEnders this week as new executive producer Ben Wadey takes over the reins from Chris Clenshaw.

But, while this is an exciting time for the soap, there is bad news for viewers who are used to getting a glimpse at episodes early on iPlayer, because today's episode hasn't dropped early at 6 am as it usually does.

It was announced last week that today's episode (Monday, June 16) would be the first one produced by Ben and that it wouldn't be aired on iPlayer as usual, but instead, fans will have to wait for the episode to air on BBC One at 7.30 pm this evening.

In a statement about his first epsiode for the soap, Ben said: "Monday marks the start of something big in Walford that we hope will get everyone talking, and it’s only just the beginning. We’ve got twists, shocks, and plenty of drama lined up for a summer you don’t want to miss."

Long-time fans of the soap know that when an episode is held back, this usually means big things for the show, where characters can return, get killed off, or there is a big twist in store that bosses want to keep a surprise.

While tonight's episode details are being kept tightly under wraps, there have been rumours that there is a big character comeback on the cards, with both Zoe Slater and Max Branning mentioned in the press.

The EastEnders social media team has done nothing to cool the speculation, even adding multiple posts where we can see the Square through someone's eyes as they walk around Walford with the caption "Blink and you'll miss it," along with the post.

While it remains to be seen if a big return airs tonight, we do know that Jean is out for revenge after seeing the press coverage of Kat, Alfie and Harvey's business.

She is furious when the newspaper article incorrectly refers to Harvey's new girlfriend, Kathy Beale, as 'Mrs Monroe' and still furious about the way Harvey cheated on her, Jean takes action to try and sabotage their limo business.

Also set to air tonight is more drama for Tommy Moon, who has been slowly falling under the influence of local lad, Joel Marshall.

Joel has already shown Tommy a video by a social media influencer who says derogatory things about women and while catching the tube back to Walford East, Joel asks Tommy to video him on his phone.

However, Tommy has no idea of Joel's true intentions and is shocked when Joel pretends to fall on a fellow passenger, Isla, who he touches inappropriately.

Will unpleasant Joel be stopped in his tracks when Isla reports the lad to the station staff?

Casualty has released the trailer for its new 12-part storyline, Supply and Demand, and it looks like tight-knit relationships, teams and even marriages may be left broken in the latest instalment of BBC’s long-running medical drama.

Picking up three months after the events in the previous 12-part miniseries, Internal Affairs, it’s clear that viewers are in for some shocking scenes in the near future.

Iain Dean rocks the boat

Front and centre at the drama is Iain Dean, played by Michael Stevenson and if you’ve read this week’s WTW spoilers, you already know that the paramedic is involved in a daring crane rescue, which leads to a decision about his career that affects those closest to him.

In the trailer, it’s revealed that Iain has a new emergency role and a new team leader. But what does this mean for his paramedic family?

An accompanying BBC press release explains: “A daring crane rescue leads to personal tensions in the paramedic team reaching boiling point, leaving everyone wondering who they can trust, as questions are raised about Iain’s future.”

A shortage of drugs causes chaos

The trailer highlights that Supply and Demand will be dealing with a drug crisis, both legal and illegal, in Holby City, with unimaginable knock on effects for all concerned.

The press release says: “This gripping new twelve-parter delves into the harrowing realities of a drug crisis. An interruption to the illegal drug supply chain puts pressure on the entire Emergency Department, who are also under strain from clinical drugs shortages. Whilst addicts scour the streets, hospital medics struggle to fill prescriptions.”

An explanation of why Nicole dumped Ngozi?

One of the most shocking moments in Internal Affair’s finale Non-Disclosure was when Doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) broke up with her girlfriend Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) after the nurse revealed she was an alcoholic and had fallen off the wagon.

The trailer provides some clues to Nicole’s reasons, as she can be heard saying to an unseen character: “I escaped the chaos and I won’t open my door to it again,” followed by a scene where she’s seen kissing the forehead of a woman in a bodybag…

The press release adds further weight to this theory: “Ngozi and Nicole confront the devastating emotional legacy of addiction.”

Teddy Gowan leaving?

Paramedic Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) can be heard telling someone that, “I need to get out of this, it’s not like there’s much of a team…” overlaying scenes of bodies on the streets and a shot of him in a nightclub looking disorientated. Could this spell the end of his time in Holby? And if so, who is going to tell his auntie Jan Jenning (Di Botcher)?

From the press release: “As the series unfolds, viewers will witness the poignant toll on the paramedics as they grapple with their own personal demons while striving to save others.”

Does Stevie Nash have a new admirer?

Consultant Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) is back at work following her chemotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer and seems she’s caught the eye of clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix).

Is Flynn teeing up a kiss while they’re sharing an intimate moment in a swimming pool? Do they have an unexplored history going back to their years in medical school together? Shouldn’t Flynn be working on repairing his marriage? Who’s looking after the ED? So many questions!

Closest relationships are on the rocks

And last, but certainly not least… The trailer indicates that Iain accuses his best friend, Jacob Masters (Charles Venn), of stealing drugs, while the paramedic angrily tells him to look closer to home - namely blaming Iain’s recovering drug addict wife Faith Cadogan for the theft! But if that’s the case, why can Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) be heard telling Iain that if he doesn’t inform Jan, she will?

This is followed by a scene with Jacob in tears while someone, who looks very much like Iain, is having a terrible fit as an emergency team works on saving him!

With this storyline involving so many Casualty favourites we’ve got emotional whiplash - and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Additional stories to keep an eye out for…

Other snippets in the trailer include a scene involving armed police storming a building, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) supporting Ngozi and standing up to Flynn, and Flynn weeping by a hospital bedside while Dylan comforts him.

The press release hints: “Flynn struggles to connect with his daughters amid the chaos of the emergency department, while Supply and Demand promises to be a powerful exploration of the human spirit in the face of adversity, tackling themes of addiction, teamwork, and the pursuit of hope.”

The Reluctant Vampire is a comedy series that stars young actor Lenny Rush from Am I Being Unreasonable? Lenny plays vampire Val who has a secret to hide, for Val is really a human, which is why he’s always felt like a misfit in his family.

Written by Rob and Neil Gibbons, the series is based on The Reluctant Vampire books by Eric Morecambe, the late legendary British comedian, famous for his TV partnership with Ernie Wise. It's a coming-of-age tale about finding your own identity and Lenny Rush admits he can’t wait for it to hit our screens.

The Reluctant Vampire plot 

Set in a picturesque English village, The Reluctant Vampire follows the vampires who live in a castle on the hill and come out at night to feast on the blood of the locals.

It follows Val, who has always felt he doesn’t fit in with his traditional vampire family. Then, he has a surprise encounter with his reflection and realises he’s not actually a vampire at all. That leaves Val trying to work out who he really is and whether he fits in better with the human villagers, who despise and fear the vampires. And his discovery leaves him caught between two worlds, those he loves and where he belongs.

The Reluctant Vampire is a six-part comedy series commissioned for BBC iPlayer and BBC One by Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy Commissioning. Written by Rob Gibbons and Neil Gibbons, the executive producer is Shane Allen and the series producer is Ali Marlow.

Commissioning Editors for the BBC are Ben Caudell and Navi Lamba. BBC Studios, which has a minority investment stake in Boffola Pictures, will handle global sales.

Iain Dean climbs new heights

Iain Dean isn’t backward in coming forward as Casualty’s new 12-part storyline Supply and Demand gets underway.

Three months have passed since paramedic Iain (Michael Stevenson) and advanced practitioner Faith Cadogan’s wedding - but it looks like their honeymoon period is about to come to an abrupt end!

This week, Iain’s determined to reunite the fractured paramedic team following trainee Indie Jankowski’s confession that her father burgled Jan Jenning’s home. Yet, despite Iain’s best efforts, boss Jan (Di Botcher) reveals there are no vacancies for Indie (Naomi Wakszlak)once she graduates, and tensions continue to simmer…

Personal issues are shelved, however, due to an emergency at Holby’s docks. There, Iain and Indie face a horrifying scene of fallen containers and multiple injuries, while crane operator Hassan ‘Haz’ Bohra (Sonny Michael Chohan) drifts in and out of consciousness. With the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) delayed, heroic Iain climbs the crane without a harness in 40-mile-per-hour winds!

Trouble and strife

Although Iain manages to save Haz, Jan and HART leader Tim Matthews (Ross Waiton, Skyfall, Vera) are furious with his recklessness when they arrive on the scene. Meanwhile, back at Holby ED, Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) learns that her new husband risked his life for a stranger - again!

How will the mum-of-three react when Iain later reveals he’s made a shock career decision?

Indie impresses Iain while treating an overdose patient in a nightclub’s toilets so much that he decides to go to bat for her and attempt to heal the rift with Jan. But despite having Iain in her corner, Indie’s failure to properly stock critical meds prior to the crane rescue later comes back to haunt the trainee paramedic…

During the shout-out at the docks, Indie makes a shock discovery among fallen pallets of dolls when she realises they’re filled with drugs. After the shift, she basks in glory as the press hail her a ‘hero paramedic’ until Jan brings her back to earth, having discovered Indie failed to properly fill the paramedic response bags before the critical shout out.

Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) is relieved as her chemotherapy sessions draw to a close and the doctor informs clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) that she plans to return to work in a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, Flynn is very complimentary of Stevie’s new look and in a bright mood as he prepares to spend the weekend with his daughters.

However, his best laid plans crumble after pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary, River City, Ralph & Katie) informs him that the hospital is facing a dire shortage of essential medications.

Will he choose work or family at this critical time?

Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) worries about availability for medication taken by his son, Blake.

Elsewhere, Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) experiences an acute case of chemistry-at-first-sight when he meets hospital pharmacist Sunny and they click. As he reaches a personal milestone, could this herald a new beginning for the doctor?

And trouble brews between Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) and Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson)...

Nicole is disgusted when she overhears a hungover Ngozi throwing up in the toilets and tells her to go home. Later, during a chaotic period during their shift, patient Jimmy Riley (Matt Brewer) falls through the cracks with serious repercussions for the vulnerable man. Both medics are hauled into Siobhan McKenzie’s (Melanie Hill) office where the clinical nurse manager and doctor Dylan Keogh (William Beck) demand answers, only for the two hurt women to turn on each other!

The Gold season 2 marks the return of the thrilling BBC drama inspired by the real life events and theories surrounding the infamous 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery.

The police continue their hunt for the £26 million of stolen gold – the largest robbery in world history at the time.

After realising that they were only chasing half, they focus on following the money which takes them on an international investigation into money laundering and organised crime. Starring Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer, Emun Elliott, Tom Cullen, Jack Lowden and more.

Here's a recap of everything that happened in The Gold episode 6...

The final episode begins with Edwyn Cooper in prison. He’s pondering legacy and tells the prison board how it takes everything in life and reduces it into a conclusion. In his case, it’s Brink’s-Mat. Nothing in his life counts, but Brink’s-Mat. He doesn’t want probation, he says. He wants to serve his full sentence because the only thing that matters is that he’s tainted by Brink’s-Mat. The other prisoners think he’s infamous, but he doesn’t think so. All he thinks about is what he lost. He says he only finds solace in the fact that he’s not the only one. That he was part of a team and they’ve all ruined their lives, too. It cuts to Charlie and John in custody. Kenny sits at a restaurant.

Lundy questions Charlie. He tells him to plead guilty to the financial charges, then tell him where the money is, and he’ll never see him again. Or, he says, they’ll charge him with the robbery. Charlie says: “What robbery?” Lundy says it won’t be hard to join the dots since he went from poor to rich very quickly. Charlie says he’s made some calls since he’s been in custody and has learnt that people say Lundy's bent and that even being called it makes him vulnerable. Charlie says he might miss Lundy when he’s gone and when he asks where he’d be going, he says they’re not so different. He’ll do whatever he can to send him down and Charlie will do everything to stop him.

Elsewhere, Boyce sits down to talk to John. He tells him to plead guilty and have a life afterwards, but John says he has to fight. Boyce said he won’t find a lawyer, but John says he’ll be defending himself. Boyce tells John that since he can’t even read or write, it's going to be hard. Then, he asks him where Kenny is. John says he never really knew him, but he knows there’s always someone looking for him.

It cuts to Cadiz, Spain. Kenny is sitting at a restaurant, ordering lunch. In Kent, the police officer in charge of M25 murder is working on the case. His officers tell him that the News of the World have heard they’re looking for Kenny so he tells them to call a press conference, but that they can only say they've heard Kenny is in Spain. They need someone to actually see Kenny, then they need to see him and then their witness does without the press involved. But, if they know, then they have to embrace it and get Kenny on the front pages to try and aide their search.

Boyce sits down with Commissioner Stewart and McLean. He says they’ll go to trial against John and they’re assisting the Americans to place charges against Charlie in Florida, which will get them higher penalties. They'll get one half of the Brink’s-Mat gold and two men to be prosecuted. He says that while before they convicted more men, they didn’t get the gold. This time, if they can convict John and Charlie, they’d make the greatest financial recovery in the history of British policing, take the money out of circulation and stop the damage money like that can do.

Stewart says if they’re not convicted, they won’t be able to recover a penny, making the whole case a waste. McLean says Boyce is out of time and he asks for special dispensation. Stewart says he can’t do that and that Boyce has done his 30 years and now he has to retire. But Stewart tells him before he goes, he’ll charge Charlie with the robbery. Boyce says they don’t have enough evidence and Stewart says the public knows they have a Brink’s-Mat robber, so they need to charge him. And when it comes to Kenny, it’s not Boyce’s problem.

As Kenny shops in Spain, he sees his face all over the front pages of the newspapers. Another shopper clocks him and as Kenny leaves he threatens him. Kenny calls Brian Reader at his car yard and tells him to get a payphone and call him back. He does it. Kenny tells Brian he’s been seen in Gibraltar. He says they need to speak to their friends to find out what they can do about the charges.

At the Kent Police, the officers are reading through all the fake sightings across 13 countries. The officer-in-charge says Kenny must have friends helping them by calling in fakes to hide the real one. Meanwhile, Stewart and McLean call in Lundy and Boyce. The papers have printed Lundy’s allegations. He thinks it’s the work of Charlie Miller. He again says he’s never been corrupt or been afraid to arrest anyone. He says he’s the best at Scotland Yard; at catching criminals and being investigated into, which he doesn’t think is a coincidence. Boyce says he’s never seen any wrongdoing, but that he needs him to charge Charlie. Stewart suspends him, effective after the Old Bailey proceedings conclude.

When they leave, Boyce asks Lundy how close the Americans are to bringing charges against Charlie. He says once they get a verdict on the robbery trial, he can go to the Americans. Boyce says what if the charges are thrown out and Charlie is allowed to walk? Lundy says if the Americans aren’t ready, then Charlie will disappear. Boyce tells Lundy to stop that from happening.

The officers are watching Brian Reader’s car yard. Brian pulls up, swaps his car with one of the used cars in the yard, blocks the police at the entrance and leaves. At the Old Bailey, the charges against Charlie Miller for the Brink’s-Mat robbery are read out. The prosecutors say that Charlie went from being poor to being wealthy right after the robbery and then went to Spain. The judge says there’s insufficient evidence to charge him and Charlie is discharged. Lundy comes to meet Boyce after the trial.

In his cell, Charlie shouts for his release. But, in walks Boyce and Lundy. He’s being extradited immediately to Florida. He says he’ll beat the Americans like he just did them. He asks, while there were six of them on the Brink’s-Mat, where are the others? Boyce says it’s not about the robbery, it’s about the money. Boyce says in the end Charlie will only have the memories of everything that happened with none of the gold or money to show for it. As they leave, Charlie screams. Lundy then tells Boyce that he’s quit his job.

Brian meets Kenny in the woods. He says he escaped the Kent Police and asks about the “other thing”, but Brian says it’s not going to happen. He says he wants the conversation and Brian says a conversation is what’s not happening. He asked his men at the Yard about moving it to manslaughter, but they wouldn't. Brian tells Kenny he shouldn’t have done what he did once he was out of prison. Kenny says all he does is lose friends and gain enemies.

Boyce returns to the office and says they need to coordinate with the Americans and when it's time, take Douglas there to testify against Charlie. With John Palmer, it’s going to be one of the biggest fraud cases in British history. Jennings says it’s going to take time to put together and Boyce says he doesn’t have the time. He tells them, in fact, it’s today. He’s retiring. Jennings says they’re not ready, but Boyce says they have an ending within their grasp. He apologizes that he can't be there to help and that it’s hard for him to leave. But, he wants them to see it through.

It cuts to some time later. It's the court trial for the fraud case against John Palmer. Jennings tells Harper that the jury is bored by the long explanation the prosecution is giving. After, John stands up and charms the jury, speaking directly to them. He explains that the case is expensive in Britain and that while he was found innocent of Brink’s-Mat, the police have been trying to get him for something else.

The officer at Kent Police receives a call. He drives to a location alone and is met by another car. The next day, he tells his officers that Kenny is in Cadiz. He gives them tickets to fly there. They ask where he heard it from and he doesn’t answer. They ask if they have backup and he says no. But, if they don’t want to go, then he can send in the Spanish instead. But, the officer thinks it should be Kent Police and his officers agree.

In Fort Lauderdale, Douglas is there to answer the claim that he was part of the criminal conspiracy to launder money. He admits liability in the case and the judge tells him he could be charged $8 to $10 million, but that he’ll also be acting as a witness. Charlie stands to the same charges, but he denies liability. At the Old Bailey, John is questioning Harper. John says that people got ripped off, but not by him, and that he’s rich. She says it’s widespread fraud. John says it’s a conspiracy between the police, her and the Brink's-Mat insurers. Then she asks why John paid the Brink’s-Mat insurers £3 million, and he says because he wanted them off his back. She says he’s boasting about his hidden wealth.

John turns to the jury and says he’s not hiding it. He tells them he was in The Times and he doesn’t want to rob tourists. The woman notes that it was 17,000 people he was robbing. He says he never sold a timeshare, nor took the money. In Cadiz, the officer has found the restaurant where Kenny has been dining. But, he’s not been seen in a while. He tells him that they’re not the first to ask after him, though.

In Fort Lauderdale, Charlie enters for trial. Meanwhile, the Kent officer sees the front page of the paper suggesting Kenny’s been killed. His officers in Spain speak on the home and reveal that the word is that he got taken out by a contract from the other Brink’s-Mat robbers.

The officer-in-charge says he doesn’t believe it, so they should continue. In the woods, Kenny holds the paper and tells Brian it’s a bit much killing him off. He says it wasn’t theirs, but maybe it’s a message. Kenny says that Brian is free as a bird, but he argues that he isn’t. He tells Kenny his solicitors got a letter from the Brink’s-Mat insurer and they want money from everyone connected or they’ll file civil cases and they’ll go to the cleaners. John had to pay £3 million. And now, they want £3 million from Kenny. Kenny says he isn’t giving himself up and he’s going to get out because he’s fed up.

At Charlie’s trial, he argues that Douglas led him to a man to help him with some money he’d got from a business venture. But, it didn’t come from the Brink's-Mat robbery and he’s been cleared from his involvement in it in London. The judge says it’s not about the robbery, it’s about the proceeds. And, they have witnesses that say he was the originator of those proceeds. Then, there’s a co-conspirator in Federal Witness Protection. Charlie looks at Douglas and says there wouldn’t be anyone that daft to do it in public. Stepping outside, Brightwell has to talk Douglas off the edge as he’s worried about the threat. They head back in.

The Gold season 2 ending explained

In Cadiz, the officers spot Kenny arriving at the restaurant. They call their boss in Kent. He says he’s sending out the witness and he’s not going to tell them what that means or the danger involved. The officers agree. At the Old Bailey, John is questioning Jennings. She says they believe criminals should be punished. She says they’ve found the money and it's worth more than the gold. They’re just here to get him for fraud. John turns to the jury and says that he’s getting targeted by a corrupt witch hunt. Jennings calls him a criminal and mentions the TV documentary where he said he’ll clean the money, but he says it was a set up. He starts to get angry and shouts at her, calling them all corrupt. The judge stops him and Jennings smiles.

Douglas is brought to stand as a witness in Charlie's trial. The judge asks him if any of Douglas's co-conspirators are in the courtroom. He says no. Afterwards, Douglas tells Brightwell that Charlie will get convicted with Logan’s evidence regardless. But, Douglas says there have been murders and so the police are less of a threat to him than Charlie is. In Cadiz, Kenny sits down again at the restaurant. The officers and the witness are waiting. The plan; the Spanish police cause a diversion and they go in and leave quickly.

The prosecution is questioning John. He asks John why he came back to the UK. He replies that he missed England. And the lawyer asks if it was because he was under threat from criminal associates. While John says he doesn’t have any, the lawyer says he spends £1 million on bodyguards. Then, he says John has personally threatened people. He argues he never has. He says that he built an empire and that they can’t live with that. Meanwhile, in Cadiz, the Spanish police are undercover as a couple and start arguing to distract Kenny. Then, the witness and the Kent Police officers walk past, unseen. She gives a positive ID. But, Kenny grows suspicious. He takes the waiter inside and asks who the people were that walked past him, he remembers a woman. The waiter doesn’t know.

Jennings calls Brightwell in America. He says he doesn’t know if they have them. The court case hasn’t concluded. Jennings says she never thought it would be on them. She wishes him good luck. In the woods, Kenny calls Brian and says he’s running again. He tells him to keep his head down, but Brian says they’re not watching him anymore. Kenny wonders who they’re watching instead then.

It cuts to Dartford Magistrates’ Court. The Kent Police officer gets a call from his officers in Spain, who are watching Kenny in the woods. They ask for permission to stop Kenny and he says to give them five minutes. They don’t think they have that long as he's seen packing up. Boyce walks in to an office and asks for an arrest warrant. He’s got extradition, a military plane, and the home office, Interpol and the Spanish Police all waiting for it. He says to sign it, but not file it until Monday. So, he signs. The officer calls back his officers and gives them the go ahead to arrest. They’re joined by more police who start to creep forward.

In Fort Lauderdale, the judge has reached her verdict on the case against Charlie. He winks at Douglas as he stands to receive his judgement. Meanwhile, the jury has reached a verdict on John, too. In Spain, the police move closer to Kenny and he runs. While back in Fort Lauderdale, Charlie is found guilty and at the Old Bailey, they find John guilty, too.

The American judge orders $151 million in charges to be ceased from any assets and all bank accounts held or controlled by Charlie. For John, he’s sentenced to eight years in prison and confiscation of £33,243,812.46. The police continue to chase Kenny down, finally catching him. He asks who they are and they tell him, they're the Kent Police. It cuts to the officer-in-charge back in Kent, they call him and tell him they got Kenny.

Boyce comes to see Jennings and Brightwell as they’re packing up the office. He’s wants to congratulate them. He’s worked out they’ve retrieved £200 million, which means the legacy of the biggest robbery in history has resulted in the biggest financial result in the history of British policing. Jennings said they didn’t get them all and Boyce says that’s hard to come to terms with. When Jennings ask if it’s over, Boyce says: "It’s Brink’s-Mat. It’s never over."

Words appear on the screen detailing that Kenny was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, which saw him released in 2019. John was shot dead in 2015 in the garden of his home in Essex, a murder that remains unsolved. And that none of the Brink’s-Mat gold was ever recovered.
