2025 is going to be the best TV year ever. I know, it's a bold statement at the start of a new year, but it's true. There are so many shows either debuting or returning to our TV screens in 2025 that fans are in for a big treat. The biggest problem won't be what to watch but rather how to watch it all. The WTW team picked the 15 shows we can't wait to see in 2025, but the list just scratches the surface of what's coming.

It's not just new and returning network dramas. We're talking big names, big franchises and huge concepts. It really feels like it's the biggest year for TV because the stars have aligned that way; either things were already in the works for 2025 or production delays (remember the 2024 Writers and Screen Actors Guild strikes that shut down film and TV production for months) led to pushing shows to later premiere dates. Whatever the case, with so many new and returning shows coming up, 2025 is will no doubt be a veritable feast for our TV-viewing sensibilities.

I'll never forget when The Last of Us aired the final episode of its first season in March 2023. HBO quickly announced the apocalyptic series based on the bestselling video game would return for a second season...in 2025. 2025! At the time I thought there was no way it could possibly take that long for the show to return, even with all of the CGI and post-production work that goes into a series of that magnitude. But at long last, 2025 has finally arrived, and The Last of Us season 2 will grace our TV screens at some point this year (the actual release date is not available as of this writing).

Not only is that not a complete list, but we're not even talking about all of the new and returning reality shows and the mid-season returns of favorite new shows like Doctor Odyssey, Elsbeth season 2 and Matlock, nor are we talking about the new seasons of those same shows coming in the fall (pending their renewal, of course).

What this means is that our TVs will be chock full of quality programming all year long. We won't be limited to the traditional TV season from fall to spring, as there are too many shows to be contained to any one season. That said, though we're still awaiting some release dates we're almost certainly guaranteed to have at least one must-watch show on every week of the year!

The best Black Mirror episodes prove that the anthology series always has explored various ramifications of advanced technologies through twisted narratives. When the show — created by Charlie Brooker — hit stateside through an acquisition by Netflix, it became a pop culture phenomenon. 

Earning eight Emmy Awards between five seasons and a feature-length film, Black Mirror could be considered The Twilight Zone of the digital era with plenty of dark, twisted, and sometimes funny tales about what happens when tech falls into the wrong hands.   

As Black Mirror season 6 drops on Netflix, we’ve compiled a list of the best episodes the series has to offer and since it's an anthology series you can watch them in any order you like.

Shut Up and Dance

Shut Up and Dance is widely considered to be one of the most disturbing episodes of the bunch. With a relatively simple set up it also feels realistic, like it's something that could happen right now.

In it, we follow Kenny (Alex Lawther) who ends up forced to obey the commands of some mysterious hackers after he is filmed during a private moment and blackmailed. During his journey, he meets Hector (Jerome Flynn) who the hackers found out was cheating on his wife. This all builds to a horrifying conclusion, making it one of Black Mirror's best.

USS Callister

This Star Trek-inspired episode takes a very dark turn as we follow Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons), the CTO of a tech-entertainment company, which produces the multiplayer game Infinity, in which users control a starship in a simulated reality. He seems like an ordinary guy but he's hiding some dark truths.

When Nanette Cole (Cristin Milioti) joins the company as a new programmer, she uncovers what Daly's been up to behind closed doors and vows to put a stop to his sadistic ways. With some great performances and stunning sci-fi visuals, this one isn't to be missed.

Loch Henry

Film students Davis (Samuel Blenkin) and Pia (Myha'la Herrold ) visit Davis' hometown of Loch Henry to make a documentary about a local egg collector. But they soon begin to unravel a disturbing true crime story at the heart of the rural Scottish town, leading to some secrets being unearthed.

Gritty both in its style and tone, Loch Henry is certainly one of Black Mirror's best with one of the most disturbing end scenes this show's got to offer. Don't say we didn't warn you!

Demon 79

Presented like a grainy 1970s horror movie, Demon 79 follows shop assistant Nida (Anjana Vasan) after she is approached by a demon named Gaap (Paapa Essiedu) and told she must kill three humans to prevent the end of the world.

It's equal parts gritty, equal parts funny as we watch the dynamic between Nida and Gaap unfold against a backdrop of 70s Northern England and the difficult political climate.

 Bandersnatch 

The idea of free-will manipulates characters and viewers in a narrative directed by David Slade. Players make decisions for budding programmer Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead) who is creating a video game inspired by his favorite book. What happens next is a story that goes in entirely bonkers directions alongside five base endings. 

From a purely cinematic point of view, Bandersnatch works as well-paced, beautifully shot work highlighted by Whitehead’s portrayal of Stefan. The meta-game and easter eggs include a playable version of ZX Spectrum game Nohzdyve and allusions to other Black Mirror episodes. In an age where people are streaming videos and playing video games more than ever, Bandersnatch couldn’t be a better reflection of the time.  

 The Entire History of You 

Sometimes all one wants to do is let go of painful memories. But how difficult is that task when other people can remind us of them at a moment's notice? In a world where humans have the ability to record, replay and broadcast any memory ever created, the last thing anyone wants to do is relieve the worst moments of a romantic relationship. 

The Entire History of You stars Toby Kebbell as lawyer Liam who begins to suspect a relationship between his wife Fion (Jodie Whittaker) and her friend Jonas (Tom Cullen). Add romantic insecurities and the futuristic memory technology into the mix and the narrative leads to a heartbreaking tragedy. 

 Nosedive 

Social media has become integral in humanity’s current need for constant connection to people and limitless information. Those constant peaks into curated images of individuals’ lives has created a society where digital perception is everything. 

“Nosedive” takes place in a not-so-different world where social media has evolved into a system of rating people. Similar to China’s Social Credit System, a five star rating system through eye implants and mobile devices can determine if someone can get a luxury apartment, the type of friends they can have and even eligibility for certain surgeries.

Joe Wright directs the episode about Lacie Pound (Bryce Dallas Howard), a woman who is attempting to raise her plateaued social credit score. Lacie’s over fascination with her score takes her down a downward path that’s brought to life thanks to Howard’s comedic performance.

 Fifteen Million Merits 

Years before Daniel Kaluuya made horror history with Jordan Peele in Get Out, he starred in the Fifteen Million Merits episode. Taking place in an isolated dystopian society, working-class citizens ride bikes for “merits” when not living in the convinced of the wall-screened living quarters. 

The pathway to freedom is through a talent competition show that requires the titular amount. A fairly twisted love story between Bingham “Bing'' Madsen (Kaluuya) and his love interest Abi Khan (Downtown Abbey’s Jessica Findlay), it makes some interesting points about capitalism corrupting the most well meaning of individuals.  

 The National Anthem 

When Black Mirror made its first impression in 2011, The National Anthem made one grand and morbid impression. The daughter of British prime minister Michael Callow (Rory Kinnear) is kidnapped by a computer-savvy terrorist organization. 

For her return, Callow has to have sex with a pig on live television. Standing in the way of rescuing his daughter without publicly humiliating himself is social media, news media and opinions of the public. The Otto Bathurst directed episode does a great job of displaying how the spread of information spread in the digital age can be utterly impossible to stop.

Mazey Day is the penultimate episode of Black Mirror season 6 and even though it's the shortest of the bunch it still packs a punch.

The episode joins Joan is Afraid, Loch Henry, Beyond the Sea, and Demon 79 in the new line-up as the anthology series makes a highly anticipated return to our screens.

This time around, we follow Mazey Day (Clara Ruggard), a troubled starlet who is coming to terms with a fateful hit-and-run incident while simultaneously being hounded by two paparazzi, including Bo (Zazie Beetz).

There's a big mystery at the heart of the episode around what happened and the consequences of the accident.

But what happened at the end of Mazey Day? Here's what you need to know about the Black Mirror...

What happened in Mazey Day?

The episode opens by introducing us to Bo, who works as a paparazzi. She is seen taking pictures of actor Justin Camley and his secret lover which she hopes she'll be able to make a big profit on.

Justin realizes he's being photographed and he begs Bo to buy the images from her to protect his reputation. She refuses and drives off, and he yells after her, calling her "an animal".

Bo receives $300 for each image and is satisfied with the compensation. While in a coffee shop, she sees a magazine featuring Mazey Day on the cover but is distracted by a news broadcast on the TV revealing that Justin Camley took his own life because of the images.

Elsewhere, we see Mazey Day filming a period drama in the Czech Republic. After a day of filming she takes drugs and gets drunk in her hotel room. When she discovers she's out of cigarettes, she drives in the middle of the storm to find some. 

However, as she's driving she accidentally hits something (or someone?) and she gets out of the car to see what's happened.

The episode cuts to two weeks later and a radio announcer explains Mazey hasn't been seen for two weeks after leaving the set abruptly, presumably due to the hit and run.

Then we return to Bo who is asked for rent money and she gets into an argument with her flatmate before heading to work at a coffee shop. While there, Hector, her former paparazzi friend, (Danny Ramirez) asks her for her help finding Mazey Day.

Bo reaches out to her former colleague J.P. to ask for intel on Mazey Day and explains she's in desperate need of money.

Mazey is staying at a producer's house and only goes to the front door to fetch food deliveries. Bo discovers Mazey's favourite takeaway and heads there where she is told by the delivery woman where Mazey is hiding out, revealing her location.

Bo begins staking out the house and Mazey has nightmares about the accident. When the cleaner arrives the next morning she discovers the star has destroyed the house and has been day drinking.

Bo sees Mazey being taken away and ends up following Mazey's car before one of the security officers slashes her tires in a diner parking lot. The diner worker tells Bo there's a rehab facility around the corner that has been rented out for the weekend, which Bo realizes is where Mazey has gone.

Bo, Hector, and the group sneak under a fence and see the doctor leaving Mazey's room. They race up to it, whilst Mazey is writhing in pain on the other side of the door. However, Bo seems to be the only one concerned for Mazey's welfare. From the pictures, Bo realizes Mazey has been chained up and attempts to save her from whatever's going on.

She bursts into Mazey's room and reveals she has a fever and that she has to "get through this alone". Whilst Bo attempts to break the chain the others are taking millions of pictures of her.

Mazey begs the group to leave as the full moon comes over the shack. It is revealed Mazey is a werewolf following that fateful night, something that has ruined her life.

When Mazey got out to help the hit-and-run victim it actually turned out to be a werewolf who attacked her, passing the curse onto her too.

After a struggle,  Bo sees an abandoned gun, reaches for it, and shoots Mazey in wolf form. Bo takes Hector's camera and Mazey, now in human form, begs Bo to "shoot" her, referring to both the gun and the camera. However, Bo can't bring herself to kill her.

So, Mazey takes the gun and places it against her own head and Bo holds up her camera. The scene pans out and we see a flash take place in the diner, presumably indicating that Mazey killed herself whilst Bo takes her picture, mirroring the start of the episode where Bo's photographs caused Justin Camley's death.

Demon 79 is Black Mirror season 6's final episode is potentially the most unique of the bunch. It is set in the 1970s and has the feel of a gritty horror movie.

Unlike Joan is Afraid, Loch Henry, and Beyond the Sea, the last episode of the season doesn't have any prominent technology use at the center of it. Instead, it focuses on 1970s Northern England, the political climate, and some seriously messed up requests.

The episode follows shop assistant Nida (Anjana Vasan) who is visited by a demon (Paapa Essiedu) and told she needs to find three human sacrifices in order to prevent the apocalypse.

Nida is the perfect subject to make this happen as she is a good, honest person but naturally, she isn't particularly thrilled with the idea of becoming a local serial killer.

But what happened at the end of Demon 79? Here's what you need to know about the Black Mirror episode...

What happened in Demon 79?

The episode follows Nida, who is an ordinary shop assistant in Northern England. She tends to keep to herself and lives alone following the death of her mother, but she encounters a lot of racial prejudice along the way.

As she goes about her day, she witnesses far-right political campaigns and receives snide comments from colleagues such as making fun of what she eats for lunch. On top of this, she has to deal with weird customers including those who make inappropriate sexual advances.

Throughout the day she often has vivid thoughts of brutally attacking those who wronged her, such as strangling them or smashing their face into the glass counter, images which are rather jarring given her timid outward appearance.

One day, her boss approaches her regarding the lunch issue and how the smell is apparently "bothering" people. Revealing she had brought a biryani to work for lunch that day, her boss forces her to eat it in the basement.

While there, she finds newspaper clippings describing a spate of murders in advance of May Day and talisman with the classic White Bear symbol on it that Black Mirror fans are very familiar with now.

She accidentally gets some of her blood on the talisman which unleashes a demon named Gaap, who takes on the form of Bobby Farrell from Boney M in order to appear less scary to Nida.

He explains she needs to kill three people over the next three days otherwise the world will end, causing her to freak out and try to flee the house and get away from him. Gaap uses his powers to teleport to wherever she is and Nida soon realizes running is hopeless.

While down by the river she sees a man walking his dog and Gaap convinces her to murder him with a break because he's done "bad things", something which helps her come to terms with the horrible act.

Nida decides she only wants to kill people who have wronged others which will be a moral justification for why she chose them as sacrifices. But her plan backfires when she picks off a local man who gained a reputation for murdering his wife as well as his brother who happened to be in the house at the time.

Gaap discovers there are certain rules to follow when it comes to the sacrifices. In short, Nida is allowed to kill people who have behaved badly but if they're also murderers, it "doesn't count". 

Frustrated, Nida realizes she needs to kill one more person before it's too late. She chooses a Conservative politician named Michael Smart and feels even more confident in her decision when Gaap shows her his shady future and what he gets up to.

However, Gaap warns her that her decision might not be regarded too highly by those in Hell who are fans of Smart's "work". She has a falling out with Gaap and he leaves while she goes to track down Smart.

Nida knocks Smart off the road after a chase, but he survives. She approaches him with her hammer but a police officer who was hot on her tail intervenes and arrests her.

While in custody, Nida tells them everything as she nervously watches the clock, waiting for the impending apocalypse. At first, it seems as though the whole experience is just in her mind, and then nuclear bombs start to fall as predicted.

Gaap returns, telling Nida he is being banished to a realm of eternal nothingness for his failure in his first-ever mission. He asks her to join him and she accepts, leaving for the unknown as the world ceases to exist.

Beyond the Sea is the third episode of Black Mirror season 6 and is the longest of the bunch, clocking in at 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Following on from Joan is Awful and Loch Henry, the third episode is also very different in tone as it follows two astronauts in an alternate 1969, who are taking on a six-year mission in space.

The episode follows Cliff (Aaron Paul) and David (Josh Hartnett) as they're forced to spend time away from their respective families, but are able to return home thanks to state-of-the-art technology known as Replicas.

This allows them to spend time back on Earth, with their consciousness existing in a synthetic body for short periods of time. It's a way of boosting morale among astronauts and their families. 

However, this is Black Mirror we're talking about, so things soon take a turn for the worse and the sinister nature of using Replicas is explored.

What happened in Beyond the Sea?

This feature-length episode kicks off with a horrific tragedy after astronaut David is forced to watch while his family is brutally murdered in front of him by a group of intruders who are against Replicas.

David's life is ruined in minutes and his Replica is also destroyed on Earth meaning it's unusable. He's now completely doomed to exist in space for the next few years until the mission is complete with no way of returning to Earth as himself. 

It's a bleak scenario that prompts Cliff and his wife Lana (Kate Mara) to take pity on him, suggesting that the two astronauts share Cliff's Replica so that David can also enjoy some fresh air and time away from space.

The offer is gratefully received, and David spends his first day in Cliff's Replica exploring the forest and talking to Lana, who tries her best to console him when he breaks down in tears over the reality of the situation.

Back on the ship, Cliff realizes that David has sketched his home and compliments his art style. David asks if he can return to Earth on a regular basis so he can paint a canvas for them as a sort of thank-you gift.

Cliff reluctantly agrees and David starts spending more and more time with Lana. Over time, he starts to develop feelings for her and realizes that Cliff has not been particularly intimate with Lana, with the two of them barely touching each other whenever he's on Earth.

After a few visits, David does eventually make a move on Lana who is angry with him for betraying her trust. She accuses him of "confusing her" since he's using her husband's body and is equally as horrified when David hits her son to discipline him, as she believes he has crossed a line since he's not her husband.

Cliff allows David to come back one last time, so Lana leaves the house for the day with her son. While David is using Cliff's Replica, Cliff finds drawings in his bunker. They're all of Lana and many of them are of her naked and posing. Cliff thinks they're having an affair because David claimed he can only draw from memory.

When David returns to the ship, Cliff confronts him about the drawings and he insists it's "just a fantasy" and nothing happened. Cliff punches David and tells him to leave his wife alone, and David hits back by accusing Cliff of not appreciating his family.

Cliff returns to Earth in his Replica and confronts Lana who echoes what David said, assuring him that nothing happened and there's no affair, although she "misses him" and "wishes he had touched her". This serves as a reality check for Cliff who realizes how distant he's been, and the two embrace.

When Cliff comes back to the ship, David apologizes but Cliff gets aggressive with him claiming Lana "feels sick" when he's around and repeatedly reminds him that Lana is his and he'll never get to have her, trying to intimidate him.

We flash forward and while Cliff is on Earth in his Replica, David fakes an emergency alert to lure him back to the ship where he claims one of the external coolant pipes needs looking at.

David suits up and heads outside the ship after removing items like his watch, his dog tag and crucially, the key that activates his Replica, for safekeeping.

However, he soon realizes that nothing is wrong, and reports back to David to tell him that everything's clear. He doesn't get a reply and bangs on the door frantically, as he's locked out in space.

The door light turns green and David claims he was in the bathroom, handing Cliff his belongings back from the tray. However his key was missing and David wordlessly pulls it out of his pocket, handing it to him.

Cliff panics and rushes to his room where he plugs in the key allowing him to access his Replica. Back on Earth, he looks down to see the Replica's hands bloodied, and there are bloodstains all over the house.

Horrified, he descends the stairs slowly and realizes that David had brutally murdered his family in a similar way to his own. It's not shown on screen but we do see him breaking down into tears in horror.

Cliff returns to the ship in tears where he sees David waiting for him. Neither of them speak but David nods, kicking out the chair and gesturing for Cliff to sit down. The two are now forced to complete the rest of their mission with the knowledge that neither of them have families to go home to.

Loch Henry is the second episode of Black Mirror season 6 and it's got a very different feel to its predecessor, Joan is Awful. 

The official synopsis for this one is: "A young couple travels to a sleepy Scottish town to start work on a genteel nature documentary, but find themselves drawn to a juicy local story involving shocking events of the past."

So far, so normal, but there were some huge surprises in store in this episode when the two get deeply involved in a true crime case that has spooked locals and damaged tourism in the area.

Soon enough, their planned documentary is thrown out the window and they're set on telling an important story about the case, with a unique angle about the victims.

But nothing could prepare us for what happened in Loch Henry. Here's everything you need to know about the harrowing Black Mirror episode...

• Beyond the Sea ending explained

What happened in Loch Henry?

At the beginning of the episode, Pia (Myha’la Herrold) and Davis (Samuel Blenkin) travel to a remote village in Scotland to visit Davis' mum and work on a nature documentary.

The three of them hang out, eat dinner and Davis shows his girlfriend around his hometown, which is neglected and run down and doesn't have a lot of tourists. The reason for this becomes abundantly clear when Davis visits a local pub where his friend Stuart (Daniel Portman) works.

Stuart and Davis tell Pia about the case of Iain Adair, a quiet farming boy who was found to have killed and tortured multiple people, including two young tourists who had honeymooned there. 

His rampage came to an end when he shot his parents, himself and Davis' police officer father Kenneth, who survived the ordeal but died later on.

It's a touchy subject for the residents of Loch Henry, but Pia is intrigued and manages to convince Davis that they could change the focus on their documentary from a man who collects eggs, to a true crime documentary which raises awareness of what Adair did.

At first, Davis is unconvinced and thinks it's too close to home, worried that they would inadvertently sensationalize the story instead of giving the victims a proper voice. But after a discussion, he comes around to the idea and thinks he can use it to pay tribute to his dad, who he considers to be one of Adair's victims.

Davis is nervous about telling his mum, and though emotional, she supports the documentary's new focus and even wants to be involved by giving her own vox pops. She tells Pia and Davis that she is willing to help them find resources and anything they need.

So far, so good. However things soon take a turn for the worse as Pia, Davis and Stuart end up in a car accident after they're too busy goofing around singing songs and he loses focus on the road, which results in Davis being taken to hospital and put in a neck brace.

Pia goes home to Davis' mum's house, where she cooks dinner for them both after insisting she needs to eat. Pia goes and works on the documentary upstairs while dinner is cooking, leading to a shocking discovery that changes everything.

Davis' mum had a stash of VHS tapes which were recordings of a crime drama from years back. The camera used for filming required these tapes so they'd been using them for the project, and Pia inadvertently discovers the truth after letting one play to the end.

At the very end of the recording is some grisly footage. It shows Dawn and Simon, the missing couple, crying on the sofa, and they're tied up and naked. The camera man is revealed to be Davis' father, who passes it to Adair who is also present in the room. Taunting them both, he tells them that "the mistress" will want to have fun with them.

You guessed it, "the mistress" is Davis' mum. The tape shows a younger version of her, dressed in a nurse uniform and wearing a red mask, armed with an electric drill. Pia watches in horror as the couple scream, before she's interrupted to be told dinner is ready.

Pia tries to remain calm through dinner but notices the same red mask from the video hanging on the wall, confirming her suspicions. That was definitely her in the video.

She attempts to flee the house by saying she wants some air but is followed by Davis' mum who chases her in the dark. Panicked, Pia flees to the river but catches her leg on a rock and falls face first, being dragged away by the current where she presumably drowns to death.

Frustrated, Davis' mum heads back home. While there, she pulls out a box that has the butterfly broach Dawn was last seen wearing before she disappeared. She also flicks through Polaroid pictures featuring the victims of her and Davis' dad's crimes, revealing it had been them the whole time and not Adair. 

Then, she places the box along with the VHS tapes on the dining room table and writes a note for Davis. She puts on the red mask one last time and hangs herself in her bedroom.

Following this, the episode skips ahead to the present day where Davis is being interviewed about the documentary. A Streamberry trailer plays which gives us further context about what happened.

Davis' dad had shot the Adairs dead and deliberately wounded himself to cover up his role in the murders, which accidentally led to his death as he hadn't intended that to happen. He'd been the ring leader the whole time.

The documentary, titled Loch Henry: Truth Will Out eventually wins a BAFTA but Davis isn't particularly thrilled to be at the party, slinking back to his hotel room to finish his champagne alone.

A final shot reveals that the note had said "For your film. Mum." and she had left Davis all the evidence that would have incriminated her and Davis' father. Before the episode ends, Davis looks towards his BAFTA award statue and cries.

Joan is Awful is the first episode of the highly anticipated Black Mirror season 6, which has finally arrived on our screens after a tense four-year wait.

The hour-long episode follows a woman named Joan (Annie Murphy) who realizes her life has been adapted into a TV series starring Salma Hayek and it's safe to say she isn't been portrayed in a particularly good light.

In fact, the TV show which is streaming on the fictional Netflix-esque service Streamberry documents her life in real-time, including all the terrible decisions she makes throughout the day, and she's forced to watch as her life starts to rapidly crumble around her.

But it turns out that the Joan is Awful show is even darker than we thought, leading to exposing shady corporations and plenty of twists, turns, and laughter along the way. Fans are used to some quite dark themes in Black Mirror but this one is definitely filled with lots of comedic moments.

What happened in Joan is Awful?

The episode picks up fairly normally, with Joan waking up and getting ready to go to work. She ends up having a fairly eventful day at the office where she's forced to let an employee go, leading to an awkward and emotional conversation before the devastated employee is escorted out by security.

Throughout the day, Joan had been getting texts from her ex-boyfriend Mac (Rob Delaney) and she tells her therapist that her relationship with fiancé Krish (Avi Nash) is "safe but boring" and that she often lies about how he makes her feel. 

Following the session, Joan gives in to pressure and agrees to meet Mac at a bar, where the two share a kiss. She's quick to rush off, realizing it was a mistake, but Mac tells her where his suite is and that he's there for a few days.

Trying to put the day behind her, Joan goes home to Mac and the two have dinner and settle on the couch to watch TV, a routine that is also familiar to the millions of fans watching Black Mirror this week.

She is shocked to discover a new title called Joan is Awful, featuring a thumbnail of actress Salma Hayek who has the exact same hair and outfit that Joan is wearing that very moment.

Disturbed yet intrigued, the duo decides to press play and Joan is horrified when the exact day she has just experienced plays out before her and Krish, including the firing, the candid therapy session, and the kiss with Mac, exposing her darkest secrets to her fiancé.

Krish gets in the car and leaves Joan, not believing her when she tries to claim it's fictional and didn't happen how the show suggested it did. She soon discovers that whatever she does will play out that way in the mysterious Streamberry series.

Unsurprisingly, Joan loses her job following the very public humiliation and even encounters members of the public who tell her she's "disgusting" after watching what she did on TV. 

Joan heads to her lawyer's office. She is told she technically signed over the rights to use her life as a TV show on Streamberry when she made an account with the streaming service. This is a clever jab at the fact that people do not read the full terms and conditions when they are signing up for things (a mistake that we probably shouldn't make going forward!).

It gets even more complicated, as Salma Hayek signed over the rights to use her image, meaning the show is entirely CGI generated and uses a digital likeness of the actress, meaning they could make her do anything they want and they don't have to waste time filming scenes with her.

Joan's life has been tracked through her phone this whole time, with the powerful Streamberry algorithm able to turn her life into a TV show for public consumption, mirroring that of targeted advertising we often see on our devices.

This causes Joan to hit breaking point and she realizes she needs to get Salma Hayek's attention and do something really awful so she'll be so horrified that her digital image was forced to depict that. 

Cue the scene that real-life Salma Hayek was talking about where she teases she thought she'd "get in trouble". Joan binge eats a number of cheeseburgers from a fast food restaurant and drinks a laxative medicine soon after, before dressing up in a cheerleader outfit and drawing a penis on her forehead.

Then she gatecrashes a church wedding and the laxative takes effect with truly horrifying results, we're sure you don't want us to describe that to you. As expected, Salma's digital image recreates the moment on screen and the actress is less than impressed by the crude, blasphemous use of her image.

Much like Joan, Salma attempts to consult with a legal team and Streamberry is having none of it, telling her that she signed away the use of her image and they are legally within their rights to do whatever they want with the CGI version of her.

Desperate to put an end to this, Salma Hayek tracks down the real Joan, and the two hatches a plan to break into Streamberry's headquarters and manually put a stop to the TV show for good.

The two gain access to Streamberry's offices and listen in on a conversation between the CEO and a journalist. She explains they are creating "experimental entertainment, computer-generated material" with a quamputer located at the end of the corridor that is able to create shows much faster than manual television production. 

She explains the machine is an "infinite content creator" which is able to create "entire multiverses into existence", giving them access to so many possibilities to entertain viewers.

Joan was used to test the system as she is an average person and "boring". The plan is to then launch it to create tailored content for each of their viewers, so everyone will have their own [Name] is Awful series. When asked why "awful", the CEO reveals people prefer to hate-watch and respond better to negative content.

This is where things get even crazier. Joan and Salma break into the quamputer room where they find the assistant looking after the machine (played by Michael Cera).

After seeing a clip of herself on screen Joan asks what is going on, to which he reveals she is not the "Source Joan' and is just one of many Joans in the multiverse the quamputer has created. 

Michael Cera's unnamed character reveals she is actually a Joan played by a digital likeness of the actress Annie Murphy, and that he is played by a digital likeness of Michael Cera. Nobody here is real and they're just part of an even bigger project.

Even Salma Hayek isn't real and is just a digital version of herself. Horrified by the revelation, "Joan" realizes that this life is not hers and that the "Source Joan" has controlled everything up to this point.

Armed with an axe, she approaches the quamputer and is urged by the CEO not to destroy it. However, it is not this Joan's decision, and the decision has already been made by the real-life Source Joan, leading to the destruction of the sinister machine and all of the different multiverses that were spawned for entertainment purposes. 

Source Joan (Kayla Lorette) has freed herself from her infinite digital realities. She is arrested for breaking into Streamberry and placed under house arrest, and an end scene shows she is doing a lot better now.

She is dating again, feels more confident, and has a quiet job in a coffee shop where she feels able to do something she loves. Annie Murphy arrives at the shop, who was revealed to be her accomplice in stopping Streamberry, and it is implied the two became friends following the ordeal.

Aaron Paul as Cliff Stanfield

In Beyond the Sea, Cliff Stanfield is an astronaut who is two years into his six-year mission in deep space with a wife and son back on Earth. It's quite a lonely experience but he has the company of one fellow astronaut.

He's played by Aaron Paul who is best known for his breakout role as Jesse Pinkman in the hit AMC series Breaking Bad and for voicing Todd Chavez in Netflix's animated dark comedy BoJack Horseman.

Josh Hartnett as David Ross

David Ross is the other astronaut on the mission with Cliff, who also has family back on Earth. Teasing his character, series creator Charlie Brooker said his character is a "golden boy" with a "mix of vulnerability".

Josh Hartnett played the role of Ethan Chandler in Penny Dreadful and has starred in movies such as The Black Dahlia, Pearl Harbor, and The Virgin Suicides.

Kate Mara as Lana Stanfield

Lana is Cliff's wife. Not much is known about her character but Charlie Brooker described her performance as "heartbreaking", so we're likely going to see her coming to terms with having her husband gone for so long.

Kate Mara is known for her role as Zoe Barnes in Netflix's political thriller House of Cards and has starred in movies such as 127 Hours, Brokeback Mountain and Fantastic Four.

Auden Thornton as Jessica Ross

Jessica is David’s wife who has a tragic backstory during the events of Beyond the Sea.

Auden Thornton played the role of Lucy Damon in season four of This Is Us. She has also starred in Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, and Arlington Road.

Joan Is Awful

Annie Murphy as Joan

Joan is the titular main character of this episode. She is an average woman with blonde, face-framing highlights, one of her distinguishing features She has "faded into the background of her own life" and is also "going through the motions." One day she turns on the TV and sees Salma Hayek playing her in a dramatized day that just happened.

Actress Annie Murphy is best known for her performance as Alexis Rose in Schitt's Creek. She has also starred in Kevin Can F**k Himself, Russian Doll, and American Dad!

Salma Hayek as TV Joan

In Joan is Awful, Salma Hayek stars as a fictionalized version of herself, who’s playing the role of Joan on the Streamberry TV show. Speaking to Netflix, she revealed: "I play both an exaggerated version of myself and of Joan. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play an interpretation of myself."

Salma Hayek received an Oscar nomination for her role as painter Frida Kahlo in Frida. She has also starred in a number of other projects including 30 Rock, Ugly Betty, and House of Gucci. 

Avi Nash as Krish

Avi Nash plays Joan’s fiancé, Krish who also has a TV version of himself. But how will he feel about having a fictionalized version of himself watched by millions?

Avi Nash is known for his work in popular TV shows such as The Walking Dead, Silo, and Barry.

Himesh Patel as TV Krish

Himesh Patel plays the TV version of Krish in Joan is Afraid.

The actor has starred in projects such as Don’t Look Up, Enola Holmes 2, and Avenue 5. 

Rob Delaney as Mac

Rob Delaney plays Joan’s ex-boyfriend, who is “trying to weasel his way back into her life." The actor also teased that: “Mac is the catalyst for what goes wrong in Joan’s life. Then we eventually discover what he is really like deep down, and it’s not great."

He is known for his work on Catastrophe, Deadpool 2, Tom & Jerry, and Fairfax.

Ben Barnes as TV Mac

Ben Barnes plays Mac in the TV version of Joan's life and the two share a very important scene that leads to the events of the episode.

He is best known for his role as Darkling in the TV series Shadow and Bone. He has also played Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia film series and appeared in Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. 

Loch Henry

Samuel Blenkin as Davis

Davis is a film school student who "wants to be the next Stanley Kubrick". He has a good heart but is insecure about what he likes and wants, making him quite a compelling character. He heads to Scotland to make a documentary but gets more than he bargained for.

Samuel Blenkin played the roles of Will Shakespeare in Netflix's The Sandman and Adam Parker in BBC period drama Peaky Blinders.

Myha’la Herrold as Pia

Pia is a fellow filmmaker and Davis’ girlfriend. She travels with him to his Scottish hometown to make their documentary and soon becomes intrigued by a chilling true crime story.

Myha’la Herrold has starred in Industry, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Modern Love and Premature.

Mazey Day

Clara Ruggard as Mazey Day

Mazey Day is a troubled starlet who’s hounded by paparazzi while dealing with the consequences of a hit-and-run incident.

Clara Ruggard is known for her work on projects like Love Gets a Room,  I Am Mother, The Rising and Press Play.

Zazie Beetz as Bo

Bo is one of the paparazzi that hounds Mazey Day, making her quite a frightening on-screen presence as she continues to invade the starlet's life.

Zazie Beetz is best known for her role as Van in Atlanta and has also starred in Deadpool 2, Easy, and The Harder They Fall. 

Danny Ramirez as Hector 

Like Bo, Ramirez’s Hector is part of the paparazzi scene and works alongside her to try and get vital images of Mazey. But at what cost?

Ramirez is known for his work in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, On My Block and Top Gun: Maverick.

Anjana Vasan as Nida

Nida is a meek sales assistant who is told she must commit terrible acts to prevent disaster, something that changes the course of her life forever.

Anjana Vasan is best known for her comedic work on We Are Lady Parts and she won an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Stella in the recent West End staging of A Streetcar Named Desire.

Paapa Essiedu as Gaap

Gaap is a unique individual with a unique, disco dress sense. He’s described as being "charming and persuasive" and he and Nida have "a fun dynamic together". From what we can see, he's very different from Nida too!

Paapa Essiedu is best known for his role as Kwame in I May Destroy You. He also played the role of Alexander Dumani in Gangs of London and Isaac Turner in The Capture season 2.

Black Mirror star Salma Hayek has admitted she was worried about "getting in trouble" after her very different performance in the Netflix anthology series.

With Black Mirror season 6 hitting our screens in a matter of days, stars have been teasing what to expect from the highly anticipated new episodes, especially considering it has been four years since the last season.

Salma Hayek gets to play an exaggerated version of herself in season 6, a role that is definitely different from those fans are used to seeing the actress in, having previously starred in projects like House of Gucci and The Hitman's Bodyguard.

In the episode Joan is Awful, a real woman (Annie Murphy) learns that her life has been turned into a TV show on a Netflix-inspired streaming service, with Salma Hayek playing her. And it's safe to say she isn't represented very well!

In an interview with Radio Times magazine, Salma Hayek said: "I got to explore the concepts and clichés people have about me and be self-deprecating."

"It’s as if I created an alter ego where I could do the most disgusting, grotesque things that you would never do in real life… and have permission to do that."

She teased that there was also a "huge" moment that shocked her and she had to take a while to process it — so we're keen to find out what that is!

Salma added: "There are so many moments that shocked me in the script. There is one huge one that I had to come to terms with, and made me ask myself, ‘Do I really want to do this? Am I going to get in trouble?’'"

Teasing the series' return in a press release, creator Charlie Brooker said: "I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself."

So with this in mind, we should be ready to expect the unexpected when the series makes a triumphant comeback bringing a lot of great guest stars along with it.

What to Watch staff summer TV picks

1. FUBAR (May 25)

The first thing that probably comes to mind when thinking of Arnold Schwarzenegger is his action roles, but his comedic abilities should not be underestimated. He's getting the chance to flex both of those muscles in the new Netflix series FUBAR, where he stars as a CIA agent on the verge of retirement, brought back in when he discovers that his daughter (Top Gun: Maverick's Monica Barbaro) is also an agent. Blockbuster movies get to just be fun, so why not a TV show? FUBAR has that kind of feeling and we're here for it. — Michael Balderston

2. The Idol (June 4)

HBO's newest original series The Idol, co-created by Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Euphoria's Sam Levinson, has been generating buzz from Cannes after the first two episodes debuted at the festival. Lily-Rose Depp stars as aspiring pop-star Jocelyn, who is taken under the wing of the charismatic Tedros (Tesfaye), a self-help guru and cult leader. The result is a mind-bending descent into the high price of fame and the belief that there’s no price too high to achieve it. It's sure to be the new series that everyone is talking about. — Sarabeth Pollock

3. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 (June 15)

With Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, fans were transported to the early adventures of the USS Enterprise and her crew. Unlike some of the other Star Trek series, the show features more of a story-of-the-week format, with a few plot points running through the entirety of the season. At the end of the first season, Spock's half-brother Sybok showed up and there’s no question he's going to cause trouble for Spock (Ethan Peck), Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the Enterprise. And after getting to know the crew in season 1, we're ready to boldly go on new adventures in season 2. — Sarabeth Pollock

4. Outlander season 7 (June 16)

Jamie (Sam Heugan) and Claire (Caitríona Balfe) are back with Outlander season 7, as the epic tale of love, loss and time travel continues. It has been over a year since the last new episode and fans have been eagerly anticipating the supersized seventh season. Half of the 16 episodes will air beginning in June, while the other half will debut at a later date. Season 7 will see the several new faces as well as the return of several fan-favorite actors, including Graham McTavish and Steven Cree. — Sarabeth Pollock

5. The Walking Dead: Dead City (June 18)

The Walking Dead franchise has been on television since 2010, but now it's taking the story to a whole new playground with The Walking Dead: Dead City. This time the show will be set in New York City, offering fans a glimpse of the horrors that have befallen the city. Forests of trees have been replaced by a forest of derelict skyscrapers. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) recruits her mortal enemy Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to help her find her son, who was kidnapped and taken to the Big Apple by a new villain. Can they put aside what happened in the past long enough to work together to save Hershel? — Sarabeth Pollock

6. Secret Invasion (June 21)

In many ways, Secret Invasion feels like a necessary return of the Marvel universe back to the basics, with Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) at the helm. Marvel fans know that Fury has been a strong presence in the MCU since first appearing in Iron Man, so seeing him lead his own series is a reminder that while more Avengers and villains appear in the expanding superhero world, the franchise hasn't forgotten its cinematic roots. 

Secret Invasion follows Fury as he engages in a top-secret mission to defend the world against the infiltration of the alien species known as the Skrulls. While the series sees a number of new faces, Cobie Smulders returns as Maria Hill and Don Cheadle as Rhodey. — Terrell Smith

7. The Bear season 2 (June 22)

Hate to admit it, but I was late to the game on The Bear, but when I finally sat down to watch it I quickly understood why this show had everyone talking last summer. The feverish pace when the heat is on in the kitchen and everyone is going a mile a minute was enthralling, while it was easy to fall for this cast of characters and all their quirks and issues, led by a phenomenal performance by Jeremy Allen White. Now that I am caught up though, I am certainly not going to be missing The Bear season 2 as soon as it arrives. The restaurant may be changing, but I have a feeling much of what we loved about this show will not. — Michael Balderston

8. Black Mirror season 6 (June TBD)

After roughly four years since a new episode aired, Black Mirror season 6 is easily one of the most anticipated returns of 2023 in our book. The series is known for its dark fiction and satirical nature that always leaves viewers entertained, yet contemplating the social implications of what they watched. To date, one of the most well-received episodes from season 3, titled “Nosedive,” featuring Bryce Dallas Howard, continues to serve as a powerful warning about the dangers of social media and needing to be liked. 

Season 6 in particular has us primed and ready as the cast is nothing short of star-studded. Helping to bring to life each story are Schitt's Creek's Annie Murphy, Atlanta's Zazie Beetz, Oppenheimer's Josh Hartnett and Magic Mike's Last Dance's Salma Hayek, just to name a few. — Terrell Smith

9. Only Murders in the Building season 3 (August 8)

Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) and no longer just solving murders in the Arconia, as Only Murders in the Building season 3 takes its story to Broadway, where leading man Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) has mysteriously dropped dead on the night of Oliver's big premiere. OMITB is one of the best shows on TV right now thanks to the trio of Martin, Short and Gomez, and with the addition of Rudd, Meryl Streep and much of the returning ensemble, it may only be getting better. We're going to be obsessively dissecting the clues to try and figure out who killed Ben Glenroy, while also laughing hysterically at the antics of our amateur sleuths. — Michael Balderston

10. Love Island USA season 5 (TBD)

We can't wait for this admittedly guilty pleasure of summer (though as of publication we don't know when it is arriving). While the show doesn't have paid actors and award-winning writers, it is still one of the most entertaining series to watch on a hot night.

Sure, there are plenty of dating reality shows. From The Bachelor to Love Is Blind, there a number of programs featuring everyday people looking for romance. Love Island stands out because of the unique challenges the singles face and the fact a new episode airs almost daily. Plus, the fact that there is a monetary prize for the winning couple keeps things spicy as pairs rotate singles often. 

With the success of Love Island season 4, we hope that season 5 will somehow manage to top even that. — Terrell Smith

Black Mirror season 6 is on its way after a four-year wait and we have some exciting new details about what to expect when the dystopian series returns.

Charlie Brooker's dark anthology has been a huge hit ever since it first hit our screens on Channel 4, then later moved to Netflix where it was able to attract an even bigger audience and an interactive movie called Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

News of the sixth instalment came after the official Twitter account shared a cryptic clue that simply read "What have we missed?" and a trailer followed shortly after, sending fans into a frenzy.

Speaking about the series' return, Charlie Brooker said: "I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself. 

“Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect."

That all sounds very exciting. Here's everything you need to know about Black Mirror season 6 so far.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, a trailer for Black Mirror season 6 is here and it's set to a pretty eerie rendition of I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire by The Ink Spots, a song which has been popularised in recent years by the Fallout series. 

While they don't give away too much, there's definitely enough to tease what's going on and some quick looks at the famous faces featured in the new series.

Black Mirror hasn't seen any new episodes since 2019 but a cryptic new statement suggests that a new season could arrive soon.

The hugely popular Netflix anthology series could be making a welcome comeback following season 5, a three-part instalment that featured the episodes Striking Vipers, Smithereens and Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too.

The most recent season might've been short, but it welcomed huge guest stars like Andrew Scott and Miley Cyrus to the line-up, and fans were keen to see more. 

In 2022, Variety reported that season 6 has been greenlit by Netflix but there wasn't any concrete updates about when these new episodes might arrive on our screens, or what they might be about. 

However, a new tweet has got fans incredibly excited. For the past four years, there's been radio silence on the social media accounts until a recent tweet appeared which just reads: "What have we missed?".

This announcement has, understandably, sent people on Twitter into a frenzy and Netflix themselves have gotten in on the action, replying to the tweet with an equally cryptic one that reads: "scientists are still creating robots that slowly harness more and more advanced AI like they haven't watched a single episode of your show."

We can only hope this means Black Mirror season 6 is on the way soon, as we've been waiting patiently to see more from the popular anthology series.

Charlie Brooker's series is so successful that it even saw a first for Netflix, an interactive movie named Black Mirror: Bandersnatch which allowed players to choose their own adventure.

This resulted in protagonist Stefan leading an ordinary life or going through it and having a series of weird things happen to him, which let's face it, is way more fun to play through!

Black Mirror has had fans captivated from day one, with humble beginnings on Channel 4 and a truly shocking pilot episode that saw Rory Kinnear as a Prime Minister who was forced to make a horrific decision in order to save someone's life. If you know, you know.

It's since moved to Netflix which is its new home and has gone on to be a global sensation with the stories making fans laugh, cry and recoil in horror in places. 

But is Black Mirror season 6 going to land on our screens soon? We'll have to wait patiently for more updates.

Red Rose is a gripping new horror series following a sinister mobile app, and intrigued viewers have been comparing it to Charlie Brooker’s hit dystopian series Black Mirror due to its focus on the dark side of technology.

The series follows a group of Bolton teenagers who have finished their GCSEs and are looking forward to a summer of fun and freedom, but things soon take a sinister turn after Rochelle (Isis Hainsworth) downloads a new app, which had seemingly been passed on from a popular girl at school.

Intrigued and keen to fit in, Rochelle downloads the app and starts to engage with it more, where it starts asking her how she feels and claiming it can “help her”, an offer that’s impossible to refuse given the fact she’s struggling at home trying to look after her twin siblings while her dad struggles to make ends meet.

The Red Rose app seems too good to be true, after topping up her electricity meter after it runs out and gifting her a fancy dress to wear to a house party, but the app starts asking for darker things and begins to sabotage Rochelle’s relationships.

In episode one, Rochelle’s friend Wren (Amelia Clarkson) starts dating Noah, who she also likes. This causes some complications and the app latches onto their tensions, beginning to drive the two friends apart especially when it demands Rochelle to kiss Noah otherwise it will expose the fact she relies on a food bank and is struggling with money.

What’s more, it looks like there’s a supernatural twist as Rochelle keeps seeing her mum in the app, and the pilot episode ends on a cliffhanger when the app shows her the twins standing next to a creepy figure, home alone after Rochelle left them to go to a party. With the twins in potential danger, can Rochelle save them?

With the Red Rose app tormenting users and exposing their vulnerabilities, fans have compared the new BBC series to Black Mirror, due to the fact it focuses on the dark side of technology and how it can ruin lives. Plenty of people are finding the series creepy too, and we can only imagine it’s going to get even darker as it goes on!

So far it only seems like we've caught a glimpse of what the creepy Red Rose app can do, but how far will it actually go? And will everyone make it out alive? We'll have to tune in to find out how the story ends.

It’s been three years since Black Mirror season 5 debuted, but things are gearing up for Black Mirror season 6 on Netflix. In addition, the new season of the anthology series is supposed to be bigger than the most recent outing, both in terms of number of episodes and in scale, according to a report by Variety.

Per Variety, casting is underway for the new season of Black Mirror. While plotlines are being kept secret, the expectation is that there will be more episodes in season 6 than the three that made up Black Mirror season 5, though it is unclear just how many; the most in any given season was six in season 3 and 4. Variety also quotes a source saying the latest season is "even more cinematic in scope, with each instalment being treated as an individual film."

Black Mirror first debuted in 2011 on Channel 4 in the UK before the episodes made their way to the US. This was the set up for the first two seasons, then Netflix began premiering new episodes starting with season 3. The streaming service also released the standalone movie Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which was a choose-your-own-adventure type story in 2018. Many Black Mirror episodes have become massive hits, like "San Junipero" starring Mackenzie Davis and Gugu Mbatha-Raw and "USS Callister," which featured Jesse Plemmons, Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson and Michaela Cole and won four Emmy awards; "San Junipero" won two of its own.

The most recent season of Black Mirror featured Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Topher Grace and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

After Black Mirror season 5 debuted on Netflix in 2019, it wasn’t clear if we’d be getting more Black Mirror episodes. In addition to confusion over the rights, creator Charlie Brooker told the UK’s Radio Times in 2020 that, "At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart…" mentioning that he was focusing on more comedic stories. Whether that will be evident in these new episodes or Black Mirror will stick to its more traditional darker tone is just something we’ll have to wait and see on.

There was no hints as to when we can expect new episodes of Black Mirror to arrive on Netflix, though safe to guess that the earliest is likely sometime in 2023. All five seasons of Black Mirror are available to stream on Netflix.

Also it's good to start with a new Black Mirror feature on Netflix. And that's exactly what we've got with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch . As is always the case with Black Mirror , it's introspection in its darkest form. And while this isn't the first feature for the series, it's the first that's also interactive. As in Choose Your Own Adventure-style. OK, maybe more like Choose Your Own Circle Of Hell-style, but you get the idea.

In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge.

Fair enough. That's certainly not out of the scope of what we'd expect from Black Mirror .

But — and this is a pretty big but — there's a decent chance you won't be able to partake in the interactive bit.

The biggest hit for cord-cutters will be from Apple TV , which simply is not supported. Same goes for Chromecast , too, though that's a little less surprising given that it's not quite as much of a remote control as you might think. Also not supported: The Netflix app on Windows, and browsers that use Silverlight. Though to be fair, you shouldn't be using a browser with Silverlight at this point anyway.

If you try to watch Bandersnatch on an unsupported device, you'll be greeted by an overly cheery montage of characters apologizing. That doesn't really make up for anything, but it's better than a static warning, I guess.

The good news is that you'll be able to watch just fine on Amazon Fire TV , Roku , Android TV , Android and iOS. (Android for phones and tablets is limited to Bandersnatch and Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout . You'll also need to be on the latest updates for apps, so be sure to check for that.

It's early days yet for interactive content on Netflix. Here's what's currently available:

Netflix announce the dates that Black Mirror, Chef’s Table, The Ranch, The Gilmore Girls and five more series will be available for viewing.

Netflix have announced premieres for nine upcoming new series, the highlight being Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror, starring War and Peace actor James Norton (pictured).

Darkly satirical comedy drama Black Mirror has made the switch to Netflix, after two series on Channel 4. Created and written by Brooker (pictured, below), the six-episode series examines ‘our collective unease with the modern world.’ Exploring the disturbing way technology has consumed our lives, each episode stands alone, focusing on a new theme.

Black Mirror will premiere globally on October 21. The episode Nosedive stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Alice Eve and James Norton and is directed by Joe Wright, who helmed Atonement and Pride & Prejudice.

The third series of Chef’s Table series delves into the lives of France’s finest chefs, examining their backgrounds and the evolution of their craft. The chefs featuring in the upcoming season are: Alain Passard, Michel Troisgros, Adeline Grattard, and Alexandre Couillon. Chef’s Table will premiere on September 2.

A new animated series called Beat Bugs will follow the lives of five best friends who live in a suburban backyard and live by the words and music of the Beatles. Beat Bugs will feature covers by artists like P!nk, Regina Spektor, Of Monsters and Men and Sia. Created by Josh Wakely, the first season will premiere on August 3.

The anthology series Easy is set in Chicago and follows the characters as they struggle with all things love, sex, technology and culture. Created by Joe Swanberg, the eight-episode series will feature Orlando Bloom, Dave Franco, Emily Ratajkowski and many more. Easy will premiere globally on Thursday September 22.

Ashton Kutcher will return as ex-football star Colt Bennett in part two of the first season of The Ranch. The chaos continues on the family ranch as Colt Bennett (Kutcher) and brother Rooster (Danny Masterson) struggle to prove themselves to their father Beau (Sam Elliot). Part two will premiere on October 7.

The romantic comedy Lovesick returns for season two in November. Known as Scrotal Recall when it originally screened on Channel 4, the eight-episode series show will again star Johnny Flynn, Antonia Thomas and Daniel Ings . Lovesick will be available on Netflix from November 17.

Classic naughties series Gilmore Girls has been revived by Netflix.  Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will feature four 90-minute chapters, each set in a different season of the year, while Lauren Graham will return as Lorelai, Alexis Bledel as Rory and Scott Patterson as Luke. It will premiere on November 25.

A new docu-series, Captive, is set to air on Netflix. Producers Doug Liman, Simon and Jonathan Chinn have accessed real life hostage cases – delving into the lives of the victims and their families, the negotiators, business leaders, government officials and the people who committed the crime. Captive will premiere globally on December 9.

Another new series airing on Netflix soon is One Day At a Time, focusing on the lives of a Cuban-American family, a former military mom who struggles to raise her radical teenage daughter and son. The first season of One Day at a Time will have 13 episodes and premiere on January 6.

Shows which will return to second series on Netflix include Chelsea, Lady Dynamite and Real Rob.
