Episode 1: Celebrities skydive into camp, face a slimy offal challenge to retrieve a key fob, and some others tackle a snake-and-ant trial to secure a getaway car.

Ep 2: Ruby Wax and Angry Ginge take on a brutal eating trial (“The Divey”) involving cockroach-smoked food to win stars for camp.

Ep 3: Aitch faces a tough “Jungle Doomsday” Bushtucker trial to earn food for his fellow campmates.

Stuffed is a festive comedy adventure on BBC One with comedian Guz Khan heading to Lapland. He plays Arslan Farooqi, who takes his multi-faith family to the home of Santa when he unexpectedly receives an £8,000 bonus from work. Stuffed plot 

Stuffed follows Arslan Farooqi (Guz Khan) who decides to take his family to Lapland after receiving an unexpected £8,000 bonus from work. He, his wife Hannah (Morgana Robinson), two daughters and his brother-in-law are all set for snowy adventures but then he learns that his bonus was a mistake and he must repay the cash.

Chaos ensues and disaster follows the family at every time. Together with a new holiday friend, played by Sue Johnston, they must find a way to save Christmas and get out of their predicament.

A festive adaptation from the UK’s number one picture book creators, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, has become a Christmas tradition, and this year we will see The Scarecrows' Wedding arrive on BBC One with an all-star voice cast.

The story is about two devoted scarecrows, Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay, who are planning a wedding to remember. The official BBC synopsis says it is a tale 'full of heart, humour and adventure, and about loyalty, love and learning that the most important thing isn’t a grand gesture – it’s simply being together.'

After the success of animations such as last year's Tiddler, plus previous adaptations such as Tabby McTat, The Smeds and the Smoos, Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Superworm, Stick Man, The Snail and the Whale and Room on the Broom, this marks the 13th animated special of Julia and Axel's work produced by Magic Light Pictures for the BBC.

Speaking of her book coming to the TV, author Julia Donaldson says: "The Scarecrows’ Wedding is my favourite of all the books I've created with Axel Scheffler, so I'm extra specially pleased that it is to be this year's animated adaptation from Magic Light Pictures.

"It's a love story set on a farm by the sea, and the story contains a lot of comedy and a Hollywood-style villain. (I thought of David Niven when I created that character.) The Scarecrows’ Wedding is adapted from the hugely successful picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

The film is the 13th animated special of their work to be produced by Magic Light Pictures for the BBC.

Last year’s animation, Tiddler, saw an audience of 7.3 million and the highest audience share on Christmas Day for a Magic Light Pictures film since The Gruffalo in 2009.

The Scarecrows’ Wedding is directed by Samantha Cutler and Jeroen Jaspaert and produced by Barney Goodland and Michael Rose of Magic Light Pictures. The film was acquired by Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer and Nawfal Faizullah, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor.

Christmas in July continues on Hallmark Channel with Christmas at Sea, an all-new reality series following the network's biggest stars and superfans as they set sail for holiday adventure during the 2024 holiday season.

The Christmas Cruise set sail from Miami to Nassau and featured holiday activities like "carol-oke," holiday trivia and themed competitions. Hallmark superfans were able to interact with their favorite Hallmark celebrities while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Most recently, Hallmark Channel took fans on a journey around the world in June with movies set in Spain, Italy and Peru during the annual Passport to Love 2025 programming event. The movies in the Passport to Love 2025 series include To Barcelona, With Love, To Barcelona, Forever and Villa Amore.

On today's episode of the BBC soap, Nicola hits upon the idea of resurrecting the family's 'Half Christmas' tradition, where they get festive in June!

Nicola hopes it will cheer-up Barney, who remains conflicted over his loyalty to his long-time dad Teddy (Roland Manookian), when he now knows Zack's true identity.

But just like an actual Christmas in Walford, it all threatens to kick-off when Teddy arrives and delivers some brutal home truths...

Bullseye 2025 is on the way, with Freddie Flintoff hosting a revamped version of the classic darts show originally hosted by the legendary Jim Bowen.

Yes, just when you thought you'd only be able to watch re-runs of Jim handing out a speed boat as the main prize back in the 1980s, Freddie was given a festive episode to see if the show could still prove popular with a new audience.

And much to the delight of Freddie and ITV over eight million viewers tuned into the Christmas episode and so ITV has given Freddie a whole series of Bullseye in 2025.

Freddie Flintoff said: "I love the darts and Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid. I was really pleased people seemed to like the Christmas special, and so now I'm thrilled I get to host the series. You can't beat a bit of Bully!"

Ex England cricketer and former Top Gear host Andrew Flintoff is hosting with Richard Ashdown returning as Master of Ceremonies. He acted as Master of Ceremonies at the Lakeside World Darts Championship for the BDO between 2014 and 2019.

Has Bullseye been revamped before?

Yes, in 2006 Dave Spikey fronted a version on Challenge. The original and forever let's face it best version was fronted by Jim Bowen from 1981 and 1995. Tony Green co-hosted. Both Jim and Tony are sadly no longer with us. Jim Bowen died aged 80 in 2018 and Tony Green died aged 85 in 2024.

How many episodes in the new series of Bullseye?

It's four parts with each episode an hour long.

How does Bullseye work?

ITV says: "The programme will follow the original format with the playing teams made up of an amateur dart player, known as the ‘thrower’, and their team partner, the ‘knower’. They will combine their skills, throwing darts at different game boards, whilst answering questions correctly for ‘points and prizes’." Trust us if you've never seen it the format may sound weird but it's TV gold!

Meanwhile, ITV also announced that comedian Romesh Ranganathan will get another of his ITV series, Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening. Bullseye, originally hosted by the late great Jim Bowen, will return for four one-hour episodes and a 2025 Christmas special.

Freddie Flintoff said: "I love the darts and Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid. I was really pleased people seemed to like the Christmas special, and so now I'm thrilled I get to host the series. You can't beat a bit of Bully!"

Meanwhile, Romesh also expressed excitement at the return of his series, which tests parents' knowledge of their kids' general knowledge, for a second run. Romesh says: "When I started comedy, my dream was always to keep my mum in regular employment. ITV have helped make this dream come true. I'm excited for her to steal the show again and for people to message me saying she should be hosting."

The six-part series will see three celebrity pairings compete each week to win money for their chosen charity. ITV hasn't revealed exactly when Bullseye and Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening will return.

This isn't the first time Bullseye has been revamped following the success of Jim Bowen's original. In 2006 Dave Spikey fronted a version on Challenge. The original Bullseye ran from 1981 and 1995 and gained a reputation for terrible prizes. Indeed Peter Kay came up with a memorable routine lampooning the prizes and the way Jim Bowen taunted losing contestants by saying "look what you could have won!".

Tinsel Town is a Christmas rom-com featuring Kiefer Sutherland as a failed Hollywood actor who accidentally ends up in a small UK village, starring in the town’s production of Cinderella. This festive caper boasts an A-list cast, which also includes Rebel Wilson, Danny Dyer, Asim Chaudhry, Katherine Ryan and Sir Derek Jacobi.

The story follows American movie star Bradley Mack, played by Kiefer, who travels to the UK to reignite his career after his action movie franchise is abruptly cancelled. But instead of treading the boards on the West End, he ends up starring in a local play with a colourful cast of oddballs.

"It’s a Christmas film which is kind of the last thing I thought I would be a part of," says Kiefer. “I’m thrilled to be working back in the UK and with director Chris Foggin. The cast is fantastic, and I can’t wait to tell this story.”

Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson, who plays no-nonsense movie choreographer Jill, adds: “I love British Christmas movies because in Australia we’re just on the beach having a BBQ - and so now I feel like I get to have a classic British Christmas - freezing my t**s off but laughing and sledding all the way."

Tinsel Town plot 

Tinsel Town follows egotistic actor Bradley Mack, whose career is in freefall. Worried his Hollywood days are behind him, Bradley flies to England, hoping to reinvent himself as a serious actor on the West End. However, his agent books him to star in a local production of Cinderella in a small, snow-covered village. Bradley’s not impressed but as time goes by, he starts to see new hope in the form of choreographer Jill and his journey takes a different path.

In Tinsel Town, Kiefer Sutherland plays the pampered Hollywood action hero Bradley Mack who's fallen on harder times. 

The Canadian star and son of Donald Sutherland is best-known for his long-running role as Jack Bauer in the series 24 from 2001 to 2010. He played President Tom Kirkman in the political drama series Designated Survivor and has also starred in The Lost Boys, The First Lady, Stand By Me, A Few Good Men, Phone Booth, Flatliners and Rabbit Hole. 

Rebel Wilson as Jill

Rebel Wilson plays the production’s choreographer, Jill, In Tinsel Town. She previously starred as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect films and was Brynn in Bridesmaids. She’s also been in Jojo Rabbit, The Hustle, Cats, Grimsby, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, The Deb and How To Be Single.

Tinsel Town has an impressive cast including comedian Katherine Ryan as Bradley’s long-suffering agent. Derek Jacobi, Mawaan Rizwan, Maria Friedman, Alice Eve, Danny Dyer, Asim Chaudhry, Jason Manford, Ray Fearon, Lucien Laviscount and James Lance are all playing local villagers while Meera Syal is the production’s director.

Mister Smith Entertainment have launched worldwide sales at the European Film Market, with early sales completed with the following distributors: DeaPlaneta in Spain, Kinoswiat in Poland, Front Row Filmed Entertainment in the Middle East,  Active Cinema Group in Ukraine, ACME in the Baltics, Blitz Film in Ex-Yugoslavia, Odeon/Femeway/The Film Group in Greece, United King in Israel, and Empire Entertainment in South Africa.  Mister Smith will continue international sales this week at Cannes Film Festival.

Tinsel Town was commissioned and developed by Sky in association with Future Artists Entertainment. Mister Smith Entertainment will launch worldwide sales at the upcoming European Film Market.

When April Windsor went missing on Christmas Day last year, her family's world fell apart.

There was no note, no clues, no leads, no nothing to explain where she had gone and why.

Though things had been difficult for the teenager, who was going through a tough and confused time emotionally, her dad Marlon hadn't realised how just bad April was feeling.

But April's sudden disappearance put Marlon firmly in the picture.

Since then, Marlon has been a man possessed, unable to do anything but search for his beloved daughter.

Though the villagers piled in to help, nothing has worked. There's been no legitimate news on the teen until now.

As time rewinds, a special flashback episode will tell April's story in full.

Where has she been? Has she been safe and warm? Has she been harmed? All will be revealed…

Emmerdale's Marlon Dingle admits his fear that April is dead in Monday's episode (ITV, 7.30pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

Weeks have passed since April Windsor vanished on Christmas Day and there's still no sign of her.

Marlon is a dad on the brink and is haunted by an awful nightmare in which his missing daughter is found to be dead.

Though he wakes to realise it was only a dream, he's totally shaken by how vivid the whole nightmare was and struggles to hide his shock from Rhona.

The bad news keeps on coming as Vanessa's forced to show Marlon what is being said online about his wife Rhona.

Though the pair try to keep the ugly truth from her, Rhona learns that her past is being dredged up by trolls and websites and the blame for April's disappearance is being lain at her door.

Later, the tearful couple weep together as Marlon shakily voices his darkest fears that April may no longer be alive.

As the locals rally to breathe new energy into the search for the teenager, Rhona hears from their police liaison officer…

The ex-lovers reunited after a kiss at Christmas.

But Denise wants to keep their reunion a secret for the moment.

During a birthday party for Denise and Phil Mitchell's (Steve McFadden) son, Raymond Dawkins (Michael Jose Pomares Calixte), Ravi is not happy when he sees Denise and ex-husband, Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), having a moment.

Denise and Ravi manage to steal another moment together later.

Unfortunately, SOMEONE catches them kissing...

Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) visits his fiancee, Sonia Jackson (Natalie Cassidy), in prison ahead of her trial.

Sonia begs Reiss to help her prove she is innocent and had nothing to do with the death of his comatose ex-wife, Debbie, last year.

Of course, only Reiss knows the terrible truth since he was the one behind Debbie's death!

But WHAT will Reiss do when Sonia begs him to convince her sister, Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), to attend the trial?

There's been no sign of Bianca around Albert Square since killer Reiss trapped her at a lock-up storage unit after she exposed his crime...

The Call the Midwife Christmas specials 2024 are here and once again we are reunited with our Nonnatus House favourites for festive carols, mince pie contests and of course, babies!

But as always with Call the Midwife there is also a big helping of drama as the neighborhood is gripped by the news of an escaped prisoner and fears grow that he may be in the local area after a spate of break-ins.

We also have romance on the cards for Nancy, a Blue Peter Appeal for the Turner children and heartache for the Buckles when Reggie goes missing as he makes his way home for Christmas.

Here is everything that happened in the Call the Midwife Christmas specials episode 2...

The second of the Christmas specials opens with Reggie still gone and Fred calls the emergency services to report him missing. Meanwhile, Roger sees Nancy at the carols and asks her out again, and this time she says yes, but worries becasue she hasn't told him about Colette.

As the news about Reggie spreads, the residents of Poplar get searching, with Cyril coordinating everyone. Rosalind bumps into Jock who is on the run and has a badly cut hand. Concerned about him and not realising he is an escaped prisoner, Rosalind follows him to a disused factory where he is hiding and offers to sort his wound. While she is helping him she realises that he has the present that she saw on the side at Gertrude's flat, and Jock tells her that Gertie is his mother. Rosalind then has the horrible task of telling Jock that Gertie has died and he is devastated.

Meanwhile, Cyril is looking for Reggie and sees Rosalind's midwife bike outside the abandoned factory and blood on the walls and fears the worst. When he gets inside he finds Rosalind comforting Jock and she asks Cyril to get something they can make into a bandage for his hand, but when he picks up a shirt nearby it has the prison logo on it and Cyril realises Jock is one of the escaped prisoners. He tries to make a citizen's arrest, but Jock doesn't struggle and asks that he can open his Christmas present from his mum before they turn him in.

Jock opens the present and it is a tie, He tells Rosalind and Cyril that his mum didn't know he was in prison and always had hope that he would turn out well. But despite Jock seeming like he regrets his dodgy ways they have no choice but to hand him in to the police.

Meanwhile, Reggie is still all alone and lost in London and finds a garage with a deckchair in it to sleep for the night. Back in Poplar, Violet and Fred are beside themselves as his description is given out on the radio.

Back in their rat-infested bedsit, Karen and her siblings are starving hungry, and now her mum their unwell with Hong Kong flu as well as their dad. Their mum sends them out for bread and candles but when Karen realises they don't have enough money, she buys the bread and then takes her younger siblings to the church where she steals some candles, but Shelagh catches her and asks what is wrong.

Elsewhere, Reggie is found sitting on a park bench by a woman who has heard all about him on the radio and soon he is taken home to Poplar and given a hero's welcome.

Shelagh goes back to Karen's bedsit with her and discovers her very poorly parents. She calls an ambulance for the father as she thinks he might have phenomena,

At the hospital, Sister Julienne is looking after Sid and Alma Curran from the funfair, whose baby, Richard, has severe jaundice and it is touch and go as he is given a blood transfusion to try and stop his fitting. He is in good hands, but they're told he might have disabilities following is trauma.

Cyril goes to the prison to see Jock under the pretense he is there in the capacity of a minister, but really he is there to tell Jock when Gertie's funeral is and says he will try and get the police to let him see his mother one last time before he is taken back up north and back to prison.

Doctor Turner discovers he has flu, but battles through his morning rounds on a bike because he has lost his car keys. The first stop is to see Reggie and check he is okay after his ordeal, which he is, especially as he has eaten half a tin of shortbread Santas to make himself feel better! Elsewhere, Shelagh is treating Mrs Shaughnessy when she realises she is in labour and calls Nonnatus House for backup - but the only person there to help is Trixie, who isn't officially working.

Just when Doctor Turner thinks his day can't get any worse, his three children track him down and ask which postbox he put their Blue Peter appeal parcel in... he is confused as to why they need to know, until they reveal that they might have accidentally put his car keys inside the box!

Later, Roger comes to give Nancy flowers after their date where they shared a kiss, but it is tricky getting up the steps to Nonnatus house because he has a twisted ankle, which he did at the end of the date. Colette answers the door and he is confused when she calls Nancy 'mummy' and the penny drops that Nancy hasn't told him the whole truth. Nancy dashes off, ashamed of being caught out, but Roger is like a dog with a bone and follows her in a taxi! In the end she agrees to a coffee and she's surprised when Roger wants to get to know Collette and tells Nancy he is falling in love with her.

Jock arrives at Nonnatus House for his mother's funeral chained to a prison guard and everyone is waiting for him. He is grateful for their kindness and Rosalind gives him the tie his mum bought him for Christmas to wear for the service.

Sister Julienne has a meeting with the board of health and she tells him that they now have the deeds for Nonnatus House from Matthew Aylward. But the health minister tells Sister Julienne that he was probably glad to get rid of it, becasue the building isn't fit for purpose. Sister Julienne asks for money to sort the wet and dry rot and for the roof but the minister turns her down and tells her that as far as he is concerned the future of Nonnatus House is bleak and she is left worrying.

Mrs Shaughnessy is in labour and Shelagh and Trixie are helping her deliver the baby, which is a boy. She is over the moon despite living in squalor and during the labour, Trixie realises that she has missed being a midwife and that this is where she belongs. She tells Sister Julienne she will be back in a year... and Sister Julienne tells her that as long as Nonnatus House is there, Trixie will have a job.

At Nonnatus House, Geoffery is head of organising extra help for those in need throughout Poplar at Christmas and he has enlisted all the locals to help put together Christmas dinners for the poor and lonely. But Trixie isn't happy because she now needs to stay in London for the festive season becasue her flight to New York has been cancelled.

As Christmas Day arrives in Poplar, everyone gathers for a Christmas lunch at Nonnatus House and we are reminded that no matter how little some have, being around others at Christmas is what matters. And while the future of Nonnatus House might be under threat, it is the heart of the community as 1970 dawns and no health ministers can stop the magic held within its walls - no matter how much dry rot there might be in them!

The first of the Christmas specials opens with everyone getting ready for a mince pie competition, but while the residents of Poplar get baking, Violet and Fred are making their last-minute preparations for Reggie, who is coming home for Christmas.

At the maternity ward, Sister Julienne is worried that Rosalind Clifford is back to work too quickly after having the Hong Kong flu, but Rosalind is adamant that she is fine, while Dr Turner admits it is going through St Cuthbert's hospital like wildfire and his son Teddy is there after having an adenoidectomy.

At the hospital, Fred is in his element doing his annual appearance as Father Christmas but Teddy recognises straight away that it is Fred in a white beard and red suit. Things then take an awkward turn when Teddy tells Shelagh that he is going to ask Santa for a guinea pig for Christmas and she looks slightly panicked!

Meanwhile, a new mum, Lesley Abbingdon, comes into the clinic with infected stitches from her labour and Dr Turner and Nurse Crane promise that they are going to take good care of her - and elsewhere Sister Veronica is most put out to learn she lost out to Shelagh for the mine pie competition, especially when Shelagh's husband, Dr Turner, was on the judging panel!

In the depths of Poplar, a family is turfed out of their home by debt collectors and they're forced to go and live in a rat-infested room, but the mum is pregnant and their eldest daughter, Karen, is in the hospital receiving treatment for a hole in the heart. Teddy hears her crying in the children's ward one night and asks what is wrong., She says she doesn't want to go home, knowing she is going back to the rat-infested room and would rather be in hospital for Christmas.

Elsewhere, Sister Julienne calls Joyce into her office and tells her that St Cuthberts is snowed under with patients and needs help, so she suggests Joyce goes there for a two-week secondment. Joyce is thrilled but worries her paperwork isn't in order after it was revealed last season that she is actually called Claudine Warren and changed her name to escape her violent husband. Sister Julienne assures her she has sorted it and Joyce is happy.

Roger Nobel a tranquiliser salesman comes to the surgery and mistakes Nancy for Miss Higgins as she is covering the reception. There is a spark between them as Nancy makes him an appointment to see Dr Turner the following morning.

Teddy is home and recovering on the sofa when Shelagh switches on the television and there is a news report about four prisoners who have escaped from a Lancashire prison. She is nervous and tells the girls they won't be walking anywhere unsupervised again.

Karen is home from the hospital but complains to her mum that their bedsit smells funny and that her chest hurts. Her mum says it is just the stairs they have to walk up, but Karen looks really unwell.

Meanwhile, Dr Truner and Nurse Crane are visiting Lesley Abbingdon and her baby boy when Dr Turner notices flies coming from under the door of the house across the hall from her. Lesley tells him that an old woman lives there and Dr Turner fears the worst. They break into her flat and find the old lady, Gertrude, has died from Hong Kong flu, and Nurse Crane is sad that no one was looking out for her. Later the funeral home calls Phyllis to ask if she picked up Gertrude's dentures so she tells them she'll go back to the flat and collect them. While there she finishes the washing Gertrude was halfway through before she died and tells Rosalind that she will have a pauper's funeral. Later, when the flat is quiet and empty, we hear someone knocking for Gertrude at the front door.

Meanwhile at St Cuthbert's Joyce is working in her new role and an expectant mother from the traveling fair comes in with pains and it turns out she is in labour. Joyce is calm and collected and the baby arrives safely. But back at the bedsit, Karen's father is now unwell with the flu and his pregnant wife is looking after him.

Cyril sees Fred sweeping up glass from the front of his shop and is shocked to hear he got broken into the night before. As the police arrive two hours after Fred called them, Cyril is distracted when the postman gives him a letter with a Jamaican stamp. He goes to read it somewhere quiet but is upset when he sees it is from Lucielle and although she is police and sweet in her letter, she gives little away and clearly isn't coming back to Poplar any time soon.

Roger Nobel comes back for his appointment with Dr Truner to try and sell his tranquilizers, but Miss Higgins gives him short shrift and tells him he is going to have to wait - but really he is happy to hang around becasue Nacy is working and the pair flirt, much to Miss Higgin's amusement. Later Roger asks Nancy out, but she tells him she is busy with the lead up to Christmas and he is disappointed.

At Nonnatus House Phylis is horrified to see a coffin being taken in the front door, and she panics something terrible has happened, however, it is Sister Monica Joan's doing because she felt sorry for Gertrude dying alone and has brought her to sit in the chapel at Nonnatus House before her funeral.

While she is watching Colette enjoying the fair with Geofery and Joyce, Nancy reflects on how alone she and her daughter are in the world, while Miss Higgins and Nurse Crane knit a jumper together for Millicent's grandson, Harry. She tells Phyllis that he is coming for Christmas, and although it is bittersweet with her son no longer being with them, Millicent is excited.

Later everyone gets organised for the Christmas carol concert and while Geofery tries to get the fairy lights looking exactly how Sister Veronica has instructed, Fred is having trouble lighting the coal for the roasted chestnuts. However, what they don't realise is the escaped criminals from the news are hiding out nearby and planning an armed raid on a sub-post office to get money.

Everyone is thrilled when Trixie arrives back from New York and Geoffrey can't wait to tell her that she needs to sleep in the attic at Nonnatus House because he has the guest room as a thank you for helping Sister Veronica with her chutney!

Meanwhile, Fred is trying to get through a police barrier to collect Reggie from the coach station, but the road is closed becasue of the armed robbery that the escape prisoners were planning. The policewoman says one of them has been arrested, but the other one is at large, and we see it is Jock, who runs to Gertrude's house and it turns out she is his mum. He picks the lock and finds the flat empty and soon the realisation that she has died dawns on him.

Meanwhile, Reggie has been waiting for Fred for ages and starts to make his own way to Poplar, but he gets the wrong bus and ends up miles away on his own. Fred panics when he gets to a deserted bus station and finds nothing but Reggie's weekend bag. We know that Reggie is okay and just lost, but Fred fears the worst and thinks something awful has happened. Will he manage to track him down?

It's been another eventful year for Beyond Paradise's DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton).

After spending series two planning a low-key wedding with their closest friends, Martha's mum Anne (Barbara Flynn) took the reins and planned a much more elaborate event than they wanted — ultimately leading to the wedding being cancelled and the couple deciding to stay engaged for a little bit longer.

On a happier note, Martha and Humphrey were finally accepted as foster parents, and in this year's Christmas special they've got teenager Jaiden (Austin Taylor) coming to stay with them. But will everything go smoothly — especially when Humphrey finds himself called away to investigate after a widower starts having sinister visions of his late wife?

The Serial Killer's Wife, Channel 5, 9 pm

On Christmas morning, long after the gifts have been opened and the treats have been devoured, you might find yourself looking to watch your favorite soap operas. But is The Bold and the Beautiful new on Christmas Day, December 25? Here's everything you need to know.

After airing the Christmas episode on December 24, there will be no new episode of The Bold and the Beautiful on December 25. Thankfully, we'll be back to all-new episodes on Thursday, December 26.

Instead of a new episode on Christmas Day, fans will be treated to a throwback episode from Christmas Eve back in 2014. What a difference a decade makes. Ten years ago the Forresters were sharing a family tradition and this year they're mourning the loss of their company after Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) and Hope (Annika Noelle) staged a coup to capture control of the company and lead it into the future under their leadership.

Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) was devastated by the betrayal; Carter was his best friend and someone he considered to be a brother. And after Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) stepped into the CEO role, Ridge's world collapsed entirely. Thankfully for him, Taylor (Rebecca Budig) is there to pick up the pieces.

It was only a year ago that the Logans and the Forresters were rejoicing after Eric's (John McCook) miraculous recovery. After thinking they were about to lose the Forrester patriarch, the families were overjoyed and made sure to give thanks that he was still with them.

That's what makes this year's holiday celebration a somber one. While everyone seems to have their good health this year, the loss of the company is hitting everyone hard, with Eric being hit the hardest.

We can only wonder what's in store for the Forresters and Logans in the new year, but there's plenty of time for things to change before the year's over.

It's time for fans of Doctor Who to reach for their remote, because it's Christmas Day and that means the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas Special is now available to watch.

The episode is called Joy to the World and it's about a London woman who accidentally checks into a Time Hotel. There, she meets the Doctor but also one of his old enemies, and he has to save Christmas in many places at once.

As well as current Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, the episode will star Nicola Coughlan as one-off companion Joy and also Joel Fry, Steph de Walley and Jonathan Aris.

If you live in the US, you can watch the new Doctor Who festive special on the Disney Plus streaming service.

It'll air at exactly the same time that the Christmas Special plays in the UK: that coverts to 12:10 pm ET/9:10 am PT. So you'll be able to catch it pretty early in the morning.

You can sign up for Disney Plus for $7.99 per month, but that's for the ad-enabled tier. To go ad-free, the fee is $16.99 monthly. It may be worth checking to see if there are any Disney Plus deals if you're looking to save money.

How to watch the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas Special in the UK

You can watch the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas Special on TV or online, and both of these options will be available from 5:10 pm on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25).

On TV, the special will air on BBC One at 5:10 pm, just after the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special and before Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.

You can also watch the show in two ways online, using iPlayer. Firstly, this BBC streaming service lets you stream its live channels so you can watch BBC One over the internet at 5:10 pm. Secondly, Doctor Who Christmas Special will be added to its library at that time as well, so you can catch it whenever you like.

This latter option is something you can do if you're abroad for Christmas, if you have a VPN for streaming.

How to watch the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas Special in Australia

If you live in Australia, you can watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special on Disney Plus, but due to time zone differences it'll only be available to stream from Thursday, December 26.

Richard Hillman is back! The trials of Ebenezer Scrooge are nothing compared to Gail Platt’s terrifying ordeal this Christmas on Coronation Street!

Tonight in the soap, horrified Gail (Helen Worth) was visited by the Ghost of Husband Past in the form of evil serial killer Richard Hillman (played again by Brian Capron) on the eve of her wedding to latest beau Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson).

So Richard Hillman returns to Weatherfield! In a shock storyline that was kept tightly under wraps for maximum effect, an exhausted Gail fell into an uneasy sleep where she was faced with the nightmarish vision of her murderous ex-husband who died so spectacularly in 2003..

During the scenes that were recorded in top secret, the multiple murder who wooed Gail and terrorised Weatherfield from 2001 until 2003 attempted to persuade his unlucky-in-love former wife not to go ahead with her latest marriage.

“It’s a very tricky thing to bring a character back from the dead but I think the writers have come up trumps,” says Brian speaking about his top secret return. “For me it’s got the right kind of dark humour, which there always was with Richard Hillman and I love, but also a hint of menace!”

The nightmare continues

We can now reveal that this storyline continues in the much-anticipated Christmas Day episode on ITV1 and ITVX, where Gail will be seen battling her emotions as she faces her tumultuous past once and contemplates her future. Will she say ‘I do’ for a sixth time as the spectre of Hillman haunts her on Wednesday 25 December 2024.

Farewell Helen Worth

This unmissable storyline marks Helen Worth’s exit after 50 years on the show. And you can be sure there’s nothing shy or retiring about it, as Corrie goes all out to give her a spectacular send off!

Speaking about working closely with Helen again, Brian says: “I think we have a very special relationship, which is why the Hillman storyline worked out so beautifully. I never wanted it to look like he was a really bad, horrible person so we worked very hard on making it a very loving relationship. It gave a lot of dimension to the character, thanks to Helen, so it was great to be back with her for the day.”

What's in a name?

Best known as Gail Platt to Corrie fans, the character has had several other surnames thanks to her Elizabeth Taylor-like appetite for getting hitched. Introduced to the cobbles in 1974 as Gail Potter, she went on to become Gail Tilsley, Gail Platt, Gail Hillman, Gail McIntyre and Gail Rodwell, thanks to her many marriages. 

Richard Hillman's reign of terror

During his time on the soap, Richard Hillman’s homicidal tendencies were slowly revealed to viewers as he racked up victims, while playing happy families with Gail, her kids Nick, Sarah and David, and her mum Audrey. The swindling businessman finally confessed his crimes to Gail, before abducting her, her children and Sarah’s baby daughter Bethany and driving them into the canal. Fortunately Gail’s clan survived, but gloved killer Hillman died.

Nigel Bates is back in Walford for the first time in 26 years as EastEnders viewers got a festive surprise when Phil's friend returned to Walford on Christmas Eve. Viewers saw Nigel in tonight's Christmas Eve episode when he turned up at the community centre where Yolande Trueman was volunteering. 

Paul Bradley says: “I’m thrilled and honoured to be back as Nigel. Despite it being such a long time ago, I still get recognised as Nigel in the street. Returning has been great as I’m so familiar with many of the faces at EastEnders, and they are a very friendly bunch. It’s fantastic to work with Steve McFadden again - I’m a huge admirer of his work, and he sets the bar really high. I’m having a really good time.”

EastEnders Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw adds: “It’s fantastic to welcome Paul Bradley back as Nigel Bates, a character much-loved by long-time EastEnders viewers. All about actor Paul Bradley

Paul Bradley played lovable surgeon Elliot Hope in Holby City from 2005 until 2015. He reprised his role as the Holby City legend in 2022 for the show's final episodes and was a major part of the programme's last storyline involving the medic's close friend Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel).  Speaking about his return, Paul told WTW "It’s such a lovely place to work. Holby was a big part of my life, and it was a huge pleasure to re-experience it again."

Paul Bradley also played Elliot Hope in three episodes if Casualty and has also starred in The Burning Girls, Beyond Paradise, Grantchester, The Young Ones, Red Dwarf, Queens of Mystery and Doctors.

Meanwhile, a convict on the run causes chaos, and a homeless family needs assistance. Trixie (Helen George) brings seasonal joy, however, when she pops over from America, and romance is in store for Nancy (Megan Cusack). Plus there’s a funfair, a carol concert and a hotly-contested mince pie competition! But the nail-biting final scenes of this opener will leave you on tenterhooks over your turkey sandwiches before the conclusion on Boxing Day…

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, BBC One, 6.10 pm

Cheese-loving inventor Wallace and his long-suffering dog, Gromit find themselves targeted by their vengeful nemesis, Feathers McGraw, in this brand new joyous and action-packed feature-length film. When Wallace invents Norbot, a "smart-gnome" that can help with household tasks, penguin Feathers, now languishing in prison, seizes the opportunity to remotely hack it. Norbot (brilliantly voiced by Inside Number 9’s Reece Shearsmith) is soon running amok in the neighbourhood and turns from a helpful gnome to a demonic criminal. Tiddler, BBC One, 2.35 pm

Continuing its Christmas tradition of animating a beloved book from author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler, the BBC reels in holiday cheer with the tale of a tiny fish who has a big imagination. Produced by Magic Light Pictures, the half-hour special follows Tiddler, a storytelling fish who concocts elaborate excuses for why he’s late for school every day, from meeting mermaids to flying with rays. But when he faces real danger in a fisherman's net, will anyone believe the fish who cried wolf? Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham narrates, while Lolly Adefope and Rob Brydon are among the voice-cast. Fin-credible!

Doctor Who, BBC One, 5.10 pm

Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) finds herself confronted with danger, dinosaurs and the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) as she guest stars in the festive outing of Doctor Who, Joy to the World. She plays shy and retiring Joy, who’s about to spend Christmas alone in a very pink London hotel room when a Silurian makes a surprise entrance through a door to the Time Hotel, and she suddenly finds herself thrown into an adventure involving the Doctor’s old arms manufacturer enemy Villengard! Cue a mission for Joy and the Doctor to save the history of Christmas. But can they escape when they find themselves thrown into the jaws of a T-Rex?

Grammy winners Dua Lipa and Jennifer Hudson will join Bocelli along with Grammy nominee Josh Groban, fresh off his own CBS Christmas special, and singer and actress Sofia Carson. Bocelli will also be joined by his wife, Veronica, and their daughter Virginia.

"With this special, we are not only celebrating the holidays, but also one of music’s greatest voices,” said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. “We invite families everywhere to tune in and enjoy the festive performances that Andrea and his amazing guests have in store for us all."

2024 has been a huge year for Bocelli, who celebrated his 30th year in music. With over 90 millions records sold, Bocelli has toured all over the world, performing in front of sold-out crowds. His many accolades include five Grammy Award nominations, a Golden Globe and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Famous Edwardian uthor E. Nesbit is best known for her beloved children’s books, most notably The Railway Children, but the prolific writer also penned ghost stories and Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss has adapted one of these chilling tales for this year’s A Ghost Story for Christmas. 

Set in the 1880s, Woman of Stone centres on troubled newlyweds Jack, played by The Sixth Commandment’s Éanna Hardwicke, and Laura (Phoebe Horn) who have moved to a cottage in the country for a fresh start. 

But Laura’s peace of mind is shattered after their housekeeper Mrs Dorman (Sherwood’s Monica Dolan) tells them of a disturbing local legend. On Christmas Eve, a pair of marble knights rise from their tombs in the medieval village church and come back to their old home – the couple’s cottage – seeking deadly retribution. 

"I love Christmas ghost stories," says Éanna Hardwicke, 28, who has also appeared in A Very Royal Scandal. "At this time of year we're closer to the mystic or the supernatural."

‘In the period we are dealing with, Jack has the power to behave as obnoxiously and controllingly as he wants, and whenever he wants,’ says Éanna. "This warning from Mrs Dorman is a real stark fear for Laura but, for Jack, it’s just a yarn around the fire.’"

Writer and director Mark Gatiss places E. Nesbit at the heart of the 30-minute drama, as the widowed author (Celia Imrie) recounts the scary story to her doctor (Maawan Rizwan) in her final days, while also revealing to him how her late husband deceived her. 

"Having Celia Imrie’s character talk about her husband blurs the line between Nesbit’s life and her storytelling," explains Éanna Hardwicke, who will next be seen playing former footballer Roy Keane in the film Saipan.

"This is what Mark Gatiss does so well. He plays with people's expectations of what a festive ghost story will be. There’s a really compelling atmosphere, but there are also darker layers to it."

A Ghost Story For Christmas: Woman of Stone will premiere on BBC2 on Christmas Eve (December 24) 2024 at 10.15pm. It will then become available to watch on BBCiPlayer.

Well, you’re in luck, because Gladiator 2 is now an option for your holiday viewing as the 2024 new movie is available to buy or rent via digital on-demand platforms. That’s right, Ridley Scott’s epic sequel to his Best Picture winner is available to watch at home.

Gladiator 2 was released in movie theaters on November 22, picking up the story more than two decades after the original movie with a grown-up Lucius (Paul Mescal). Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.

In addition to Mescal, the movie stars Denzel Washington (Golden Globe nominee for his performance), Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger and Connie Nielsen.

Gladiator 2 is “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, including WTW’s official Gladiator 2 review in which we said the movie “delivers on everything you’d want from a Gladiator sequel.” Fans showed their approval at the box office, with the movie earning $153 million in the US and $406 million worldwide.

This is the latest 2024 new movie that was released in the final few months of the year and is becoming available via at-home viewing before the calendar flips to 2025. Others include Conclave, Anora and Juror No. 2.

Streaming details for Gladiator 2 are still not known, but fans of physical media will be able to buy a 4K UHD disc of the movie come March 4.

Call the Midwife Christmas Special 2024 is the most ambitious to date as, for the first time, there’s a double-bill of festive episodes to enjoy!

The BBC One and PBS period drama's two-parter is set at Christmas 1969, as the nuns and midwives of Nonnatus House tackle a flu outbreak and try to help a homeless family, while an escaped convict is on the loose. But there’s seasonal joy in store as a funfair comes to Poplar and there’s also a carol concert and a mince pie contest.

Here, the cast of the Call the Midwife Christmas Special 2024 reveals what to expect…

Helen George – Trixie Aylward

Trixie comes over from New York, where she is living with husband Matthew, and soon gets stuck into supporting her colleagues once more.

What’s it like having a double episode for Christmas?

“It's amazing that we've been given two Christmas specials this year. That there's even space for us in the Christmas TV schedule is such a blessing. There’s the juxtaposition of the wonderful family Christmas with the more difficult themes, such as homelessness and poverty. It’s all about community and the Christmas spirit, but, as ever with Call the Midwife, there's always a darker, more serious tone.”

How does it feel for Trixie to be home in Poplar?

“What's great is that she's come out of a really tricky period with her husband. She's gone to New York and started a life out there, but she can't wait to get back to Poplar and be back with her family for Christmas.”

What was your highlight of filming?

“It was so lovely filming the carol concert outside with the Salvation Army Band. It was such a Christmas treat. We had the snow going. It’s just when Trixie returns from New York, so it's quite something for her to come back home to.”

Jenny Agutter – Sister Julienne

The team aid the family of pregnant, homeless Dilys Shaughnessy (The Traitors’ Madelyn Smedley) and head nun Sister Julienne also meets fairground workers Alma and Sid Curran (Kirsty Rider and Kurtis Thompson) as they have their first baby.

How do you see the Christmas special?

“It was a surprise to find out we had two episodes, the script was thick! But it’s moving and full of stories interweaving. It feels Dickensian.”

What cases do the team assist with?

‘‘This couple from the fairground deals with a birth, but when Alma’s sent out of hospital, there's no follow-up contact. It’s touching. There's a sad story about an elderly woman who suffers due to a lack of care. And seeing this homeless family evicted is soul-destroying.”

Tell us about your favourite moment...

“We have carol singing, which for me is a big part of Christmas. The band was wonderful and we filmed in spring but we had [fake] snow coming down, so it made us feel colder than it actually was. There’s a wonderful feast too, and Geoffrey [Trixie’s brother played by Christopher Harper] brings some fun to Nonnatus House!”

Megan Cusack – Nancy Corrigan

Festive romance blossoms for single mum Nancy, when the nurse meets Irish pharmaceutical salesman Roger Noble (Conor O’Donnell).

Tell us about Nancy’s new love!

“I never thought it’d happen for Nancy! It's all she's ever wanted. But she's guarded. It takes toing and fro-ing for anything to happen. She fancies him from the off. But she's like, ‘I have a child. You can't handle this’.”

Can Roger convince her that they are meant to be?

“Nancy does let her guard down, because she has a moment of feeling like she deserves that happy ending, so it's special and a new element of the character to explore. But there are decisions to come with Colette [Nancy’s daughter played by Francesca Fullilove] and figuring out their family dynamic.”

Stephen McGann – Dr Turner

As flu hits the East End, Dr Turner and wife Shelagh (Laura Main) are run off their feet but they also find time to take their children to the fair.

It sounds like there are both touching and joyous moments at Christmas…

“Yes, Heidi [Thomas, the show’s creator who is married to Stephen] weaves things together well. There are happy Christmassy parts, but also the darker side as Dr Turner is involved with the dangerous infectious strain of influenza. But a strong message about compassion comes through.”

What was it like shooting the fairground scenes?

“In the first week of filming the Christmas episodes, we arrived on set and there was a funfair with a big wheel, popcorn and toffee apples. It brought out the child in me. We were on the helter skelter with the Turner kids and going on all the rides!”

Natalie Quarry – Rosalind Clifford

Escaped prisoners are on the loose after breaking out of jail at Christmas, and young nurse Rosalind is stunned when she runs into one of them, Scotsman Jock (John Kazek).

These are your first Christmas specials after you joined the show last year, how does it feel?

“Last year I watched everyone else, so I'm nervous but excited to watch it with my family and friends this time. I feel lucky to be involved!”

How does Rosalind get involved with the escaped prisoner?

“There are some convicts and this one comes to Poplar. It’s on the news, and everyone’s nervous about it. And then Rosalind has an interaction with him, which is tense and scary…”

And what were your most memorable moments?

“The funfair scenes were so exciting because we had a real vintage fair set. It was beautiful with all the lights. I wasn’t supposed to go on the rides, but I secretly went on the carousel! And there was real candy floss.”

Cliff Parisi – Fred Buckle

Fred is on Father Christmas duties again, while his wife, local mayor Violet (Annabelle Apsion), oversees a mince pie contest. But, as they await the return of their ward Reggie (Daniel Laurie), problems ensue…

What can you tease about the storyline with Reggie?

“Reggie’s been sheltered but Vi and Fred are granting him more independence as he's got older. He's now a young man, and they're trying to respect that and make him more responsible. So he’s coming back from the Glasshouse [his residential community] and they trust him to get the coach. But things get out of control and conspire against them and remind them how vulnerable he can be.”

But does Fred have fun being Father Christmas again?

“Yes, we see Fred in the hospital as Santa giving presents to a girl who’s part of the homeless family. Fred enjoys helping vulnerable, hungry kids because he was one himself once. He's a good geezer, and looks forward to being Santa every year!”

Call the Midwife Christmas special 2024 – in the UK the first episode airs on Christmas Day at 8pm on BBC One and the second airs on Boxing Day at 7.30pm on BBC One, it will also be available on BBC iPlayer. Both episodes will air in the US on PBS on Christmas Day from 8pm EST.

That's a good thing too because it's had a bumper year of TV shows, so 7 days might not be enough time to watch them all.

My favorite series of the year, Bad Monkey, is one show I'd highlight, but it's had plenty more that we've enjoyed at What to Watch. I've personally seen and enjoyed Sugar, Constellation and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (which ended in 2024, so I'm counting it) and others on team have liked Masters of the Air, The New Look and the latest season of Slow Horses.

Not every series of Apple TV Plus is worth watching but its ratio of stinkers to thinkers is much better than other streaming services!

2. Prime Video

You can access Prime Video if you're a subscriber to Amazon Prime, and this all-encompassing subscription service offers a month-long free trial for people who haven't signed up before. If you've already gotten the free trial for next-day shipping or Amazon Music you're out of luck, but if you've somehow never used Amazon's services before, you're in luck.

That's good because Amazon has been quite prolific this year, not just for shows but for movies too, though this article is just about the former. One such show that the streamer gained, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is in my top-10 list for the year.

There's been loads more on the platform that I didn't enjoy or see but others have raved about: Fallout, The Rings of Power season 2, The Boys season 4, both Citadel spin-offs and the Australian version of The Office. Plus if you're not interested in 2024's shows, it has the best library of box-set series and movies out of the four services here.

3. Paramount Plus

I haven't seen as much from Paramount Plus' big shows this year, but from what other What to Watch team members say, it's had a stellar time.

Paramount Plus offers a 7-day free trial to all new subscribers, but you can also double-up on that trial. You see, Paramount Plus is available as a channel on Prime Video and that has a separate 7-day free trial too, if you have Prime Video that is (and more on that above!).

Seven days isn't much time to see all of Paramount Plus' new shows and movies, so for the purposes of this article let's stick to the former.

Paramount Plus is Taylor Sheridan land (he's a star TV producer with loads of hit shows under his belt). This year alone we've seen Landman, Lioness season 2 and the latest batch of episodes from Yellowstone season 5 (which aren't on Paramount in the US, but are everywhere else). There's also been the latest season of Frasier, Sexy Beast, the Sonic spin-off Knuckles and loads of documentaries.

4. Hulu

My second favorite show of the year was Shogun which is streaming on Hulu, as well as loads of other TV series which people have raved about all year.

Hulu offers a free trial that varies between 30 days and 7 days depending on when you sign up, and at the time of writing it's for a month.

Of all the streaming services, Hulu is one of the most readily recognizable for streaming TV due to its big library. We've seen lots of returning shows in 2024 like Only Murders in the Building, The Bear , Reasonable Doubt and Futurama but it's seen some big new hits this year with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, How to Die Alone and Say Nothing.

Prepare for a lively reunion as the Brockman family returns with their much-anticipated Outnumbered seasonal special! The last time viewers saw the sparky suburban London clan in 2016, parents Pete and Sue (played by real-life couple Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner) were stranded in a pub on Boxing Day with their children Jake (Tyger Drew-Honey), Ben (Daniel Roche), and Karen (Ramona Marquez) after their car ended up in a ditch in Hampshire.

During the characteristically chaotic episode, history teacher Pete noted: “We have a family tradition of difficult Christmases", before going on to accidentally dump his eldest son’s girlfriend Kate (Daisy Edgar Jones, in her first screen credit.)

Now, eight years on everyone is older, slightly wiser, but still disorganized — which is evident as they attempt to spend a traditional Christmas together when the hit comedy returns to BBC One at 9.40 pm on Boxing Day.

Yet chaos reigns thanks to neighbours, hyenas and three of the most dreaded words in the English language), "bus replacement services"...

Here, What to Watch caught up with Tyger, 28, Daniel, 25, and Ramona, 23, who are close friends in real life, to learn what to expect from the topsy-turvy clan…

The Madame Blanc Mysteries, Channel 5, 9.15 pm

Father-and-son children's entertainers Frederick (Pavel Douglas) and Christian (Philippe Spall) have delighted the kids of Sainte Victoire for many years with their traditional Guignol shows but their performance comes to a premature end this Christmas when Frederick is killed with his own puppet. (It makes sense in context, trust us!) Naturally, this is a perfect case for Jean (Sally Lindsay), who manages to tear herself away from her giddy secret romance with best pal Dom (Steve Edge) to use her unparalleled antiques knowledge to sniff out Frederick’s killer. Meanwhile, Judith (Sue Holderness) receives a distressing message that threatens to ruin her entire Christmas — can her friends save the day?

The Repair Shop at Christmas, BBC One, 8.15 pm

Step into the twinkly repair barn for a feel-good special, as the busy expert elves weave their magic to bring some yuletide treasures back to life. Among the much-loved items is an enchanting miniature Christmas village belonging to foster carers, who have looked after more than 30 children in need of a home. Other festive fixes include a donkey saddle that's been handed down through four generations of farmers, a pair of giant puffins that have welcomed generations of children to a very special bookshop and a 100-year-old magic lantern projector, which has been at the centre of one family’s Christmas Eve tradition for decades. As warming as a log fire and a cup of cocoa…

The Great Christmas Bake Off, Channel 4, 8 pm

’Tis rarely the season to be jolly in the nation's soaps, so it's wonderful to see some famous faces swerve the usual divorce, death and disaster storylines, and grab a joyous break in the twinkly Bake Off tent instead. With no worse than a soggy bottom to worry about, EastEnders’ Natalie Cassidy takes on her former screen sibling, Dean Gaffney, as well as Emmerdale’s Chris Bisson and Sheree Murphy and former Corrie star Shobna Gulati. The yule logs prove easy, the meringue Christmas trees are as tricky as they sound and the festive biscuit soap scene showstopper is deliciously amusing. Don’t miss!

Woman of Stone, BBC Two, 10.15 pm

Writer E. Nesbit is best known for her children's books, most notably "The Railway Children", but she also wrote ghost stories, and Mark Gatiss has adapted her chilling tale "Man-Size in Marble" for this year's A Ghost Story for Christmas. Set in the 1880s, it centres on troubled newly weds Jack (Eanna Hardwicke) and Laura (Phoebe Horn), who move to a cottage in the country, where their housekeeper Mrs Dorman (Monica Dolan) tells them of a disturbing local legend. On Christmas Eve, a pair of marble knights rise from their slabs in the village church and come back to their old home — the couple's cottage...

Get ready for the return of TV’s most sinister penguin and a garden gnome that turns criminal when cheese-loving inventor Wallace and his long-suffering dog Gromit return for a new action-packed adventure in the BBC’s Vengeance Most Fowl.

Airing on Christmas Day on BBC One (see out Christmas TV guide for more shows to enjoy), it will be the pair’s first feature-length animation since The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005 and sees Wallace’s latest invention, a smart-gnome called Norbot run amok when it’s hacked by his arch-enemy and criminal penguin, Feathers McGraw.

"It’s been great fun bringing Feathers back after 30 years," says Park when What to Watch meets him at BBC HQ for our chat. "He’s more menacing than ever and is currently in prison in the city zoo for the jewelry heist he masterminded in The Wrong Trousers."

Here Nick gives us the lowdown on what to expect....

What was the inspiration behind the story of Vengeance Most Fowl?

"I’d had the idea of garden gnomes turning bad for more than a decade but I could never work out what exactly made them bad. Then it occurred to me the question I get asked most from fans is 'Will Feathers McGraw ever return?'" says multi-award winning director, creator and writer Park. "I thought, 'What if Feathers was involved with these gnomes?’ So three decades on he’s back!"

You have a great cast of actors doing the voices. What can you tell us about them?

"Our key cast is Ben Whitehead as Wallace, Reece Shearsmith as Norbot, Peter Kay as Inspector Mackintosh, Lauren Patel (Everybody's Talking about Jamie) as Mackintosh’s assistant, PC Mukherjee and then there are lots of supporting roles. Muzz Khan (Brassic) is Anton Deck, the host of Up North News, Diane Morgan (Motherland) is a TV news reporter called Onya Doorstep and Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) is a judge. They are all fantastic! "

Nick says, "Lenny Henry very kindly agreed to just come in for a small cameo too. He plays a character called Mr Convenience. When the whole neighbourhood is admiring Norbot and saying how wonderful he is, Mr Convenience pops up to give his opinion."

This is the first feature-length film since Peter Sallis, who was the original voice of Wallace, passed away in 2017 isn't it?

"Yes, Peter was such a treasure and so amazing with what he brought to Wallace. It was very hard shoes for anyone to step into but Ben (Whitehead) was just a gift. He has brilliantly embodied the humor and the character that Peter established, but he’s been wonderful in making Wallace his own too. He’s a very funny and talented actor."

Which part of the production and filming process do you personally find most exciting?

"Almost every part of it. I love the storyboarding and coming up with the ideas, the writing and then designing the models and seeing them come to fruition. We are perfectionists so it can be a nerve-wracking process. As we’re making it we can go ‘Ok, this scene will be great when it’s edited, this scene will be great when the music is in, this scene will be great when the effects are in’. And then you slowly get to the point where it’s like, ‘Right, well this is actually it! We don’t have any more excuses!’"

Could you ever have imagined just what a global success Wallace and Gromit would become?

"I always knew when I was a young student working at college on A Grand Day Out that it was something special because I’d never seen anything like it before so I guess I had this quiet confidence but no, I could never have imagined it would be so huge on a global scale. It would be impossible to imagine that!"

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl airs on Christmas Day at 6.10pm on BBC One.

'Tis the season for sweet holiday rom-coms, and Lifetime has certainly been delivering on the fan-favorite genre: the channel's latest festive title is A Carpenter Christmas Romance, centered on a novelist who escapes to her family's farmhouse to write only to reunite with her former crush, a hunky carpenter who sparks something more than just the Christmas spirit inside her.

The festive flick premieres tonight, December 21 at 8pm Eastern Time on Lifetime. The official synopsis reads: "When novelist Andrea (Sasha Pieterse) hints her upcoming book may be taking a heartbreaking turn, her fans begin protesting, demanding their favorite character doesn’t get killed off. Needing a haven where she can finish her novel, Andrea flees to her family’s farmhouse in the town of Wildwood. Much to her surprise, she ends up running into her ex-crush, Seth (Mitchell Slaggert), an artisanal woodworker who’s helping rebuild the town after it was nearly destroyed by a fire."

Along with Sasha Pieterse and Mitchell Slaggert, the cast of A Carpenter Christmas Romance includes Kaley McCormack, Asia King, Chris Gann, Suri Hall, Sam Myerson, Amanda McCants, J. Rene Pena and Charles Karafotas. Jake Helgren directed the 90-minute romantic comedy, with a screenplay written by Sarah Drew.

Fresh from his Strictly Come Dancing victory, Chris McCausland is going back to his comedy roots in Sky’s festive film Bad Tidings, which sees him partnering up with Not Going Out star and panel show regular Lee Mack.

Full of Christmas cheer, the heartwarming one-off special follows grumpy home-security expert Neil (Lee), whose petty feud with his blind neighbour and nemesis, Scott (Chris), triggers a power cut on their Stockport cul-de-sac, forcing the entire street to evacuate.

But as Neil and Scott agree to stay behind and keep watch, a local crime family helmed by the fearsome Stacey Brennan (Raised by Wolves star Rebekah Staton) is planning a flurry of ho-ho-me invasions.

Here, What to Watch chats to Chris, 47, and Lee, 56, about what to expect…

How did this fab-yule-ous collaboration come about?

Lee: "Chris said he’d leak some photos of me to the press if I didn’t agree to do it! No... I’d worked with Chris on panel shows over the years, but we did a speech at the Baftas in 2022 that seemed to go down well, which led to Chris starring in Not Going Out. Then Chris had this idea…"

Chris: "Yes, I had an idea about a Christmas heist involving a blind character taking down the villains, with lots of visual comedy and action. So I thought, ‘Let’s get that idiot involved, too. He’s the best in his price range.’"

What’s it like playing the leads in a Christmas film?

Lee: "I trust Chris, so I agreed to get onboard without reading the script. Well, almost. I’m at that age where I have to check if there’s any nudity. But fair play to Sky to have two leads from a stand-up background."

Chris: "I can’t believe they’ve got confidence in the two of us to pull it off, although they did get me an acting coach, so they had slightly less faith in me! I love Christmas films, though, so it’s amazing to throw something into that pile."

Why are your characters feuding?

Lee: "Scott is the new player on the cul-de-sac and Neil’s status is diminished because of him. But Neil is also going through a tough time with his wife, Laura, played by Sarah Alexander, and his business partner has left him, so he’s out for a scrap anyway. But when Scott leaves his Christmas lights on all-year-round, is Neil overreacting, or is Scott trying to goad him?"

Chris: "They’re both really petty and more alike than they’d like to admit. Scott is also going for a position on the Neighbourhood Watch just to show Neil what an integral part of this community he is, which Neil just can’t allow."

But they join forces to take on the Brennan crime family with Home Alone-style boobytraps?

Chris: "I would like to go on the record as saying that this is an entirely original idea, with no borrowed parts! Any similarities to existing films are purely coincidental, ha! It’s slapstick, and also non-stop action. I do all my own stuntwork, whereas Lee gets a double in whenever he can."

Lee: "It does have a Home Alone vibe, and we’re like the adult Macaulay Culkins. The baddies are very likeable, too. I think the Brennans could have a spin-off film."

Is this the start of many projects together? A sequel, at least?

Chris: "Well, after two weeks of night shoots in Romford, Essex, we’ve decided the sequel will be a road trip to Miami. We do work well together, though: we’re both a pain in the bum and we tolerate each other."

Lee: "I’ve got one eye on retirement and a greenhouse now, so if you’re interviewing us on Bad Tidings 9 and I’m back in Romford for the ninth year running, I might be slightly irritated."

All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special 2024 sees Skeldale House's finest face a moving festive season in the Yorkshire Dales.

Set at Yuletide 1941, the episode of the heartwarming Channel 5 and PBS vet drama sees James (Nicholas Ralph) and Helen (Rachel Shenton) gearing up to mark both Christmas and baby Jimmy’s first birthday, despite the wartime shortages.

Meanwhile, head vet Siegfried (Samuel West) encounters an abandoned fox cub, and Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) is given a pigeon-related quest by his boss at the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. But everyone must rally around housekeeper Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) when she hears upsetting news about the ship on which her son Edward is serving in the Far East.

Here, Nicholas Ralph and Callum Woodhouse tell What to Watch about what’s in store in the All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special 2024…

All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special 2024 is full of tender moments. What is the festive season of 1941 like?

Callum Woodhouse: “It’s heartfelt, because things aren't readily available. The war’s bleeding into everything and it’s affecting everyone’s lives – Mrs Hall’s having to scrape food together for Christmas lunch.”

Nicholas Ralph: “But it's about the family being around for the festive time, and not the materialistic side. People have to think out of the box a bit because you can't just run to the shop and buy something. It’s about people appreciating the effort and thought that has gone into things, which is quite sweet.”

What are their plans for Jimmy’s birthday?

Nicholas Ralph: “James and Helen want to make it special but they have to get creative. There’s a celebration at Heston Grange [Helen’s family farm], but also a familial tiff… We’ve got twins who are about a year old playing Jimmy now, and there were happy accidents that ended up in the show, like when one dunked his hand in his food!”

How does everyone support Mrs Hall as she waits to hear about Edward?

Nicholas Ralph: “She gets news about [Edward’s ship] HMS Repulse being struck and the surrogate Skeldale family’s there for her. Their unit becomes tighter because of what happens. Everyone's got those people in their lives who are the absolute rock, the person they always go to, and then sometimes they are the one that needs you to be there for them.’

Callum Woodhouse: “She almost shies away from letting anyone help her though and tries to be stoical. Anna gives a masterclass performance.”

A local boy, Christopher Taylor (Owen Phillips), asks the vets to help the fox he has found. What was it like filming scenes with the fox?

Nicholas Ralph: “Oh, it was very cute.”

Callum Woodhouse: “Yes, the fox was so sweet, we all came on set to meet it! Mrs Hall feels a connection to it in the story. And Owen as the young lad was brilliant.”

And tell us about Tristan’s mission to locate pigeons…

Callum Woodhouse: “At school I heard about pigeons flying important messages [in the war] and Tristan now has this mission to get them working for the RAVC. He’s not impressed, but then he gets swept up in being a vet to the pigeons, and finds enthusiasm. Pigeons are flappy though and everyone [on set] was worried they’d fly away. But I nailed picking them up, I was the bird whisperer!”

Tristan approaches grouchy pigeon fancier Enoch Sykes, played by dinnerladies’ and Victoria Wood As Seen on TV's Duncan Preston, but they soon clash. What was it like working with Duncan?

Callum Woodhouse: “He’s amazing! I used to watch dinnerladies with my parents and he [Duncan’s character, handyman Stan] was my favourite, we always quote him! He talked about working with [dinnerladies co-stars] Victoria Wood and Julie Walters and shared incredible anecdotes.”

We also see Tristan training some of his men in the RAVC on how to treat mules, which they will encounter while serving abroad. Tell us about that…

Callum Woodhouse: “I loved filming those scenes. You step onto that set and you are just fully in that world. We had the mule, which was a really cool animal. And we had all these guys dressed up and there were bags of ammunition and army vehicles. That does half of the work for you. Tristan has become more work-orientated and knowledgeable about the profession, and now he’s an instructor. There is a little bit of the showman about him, so he’s good at it.”

You always film the Christmas special in the summer, but what got you into the festive spirit?!

Callum Woodhouse: “Grassington [the Yorkshire village that doubles as fictional Darrowby] always looks Christmassy with a huge tree. We also have a scene where we play charades, which makes you think of playing games at home at Christmas!”

Nicholas Ralph: “And catering laid on a Christmas lunch for us but with ice lollies for dessert! I also loved filming the Christmas dinner scenes where the place was decked up, which spread festive cheer and had a magical quality. You do get transported.”

Where will you be watching the Christmas episode?

Nicholas Ralph: “It depends but I always watch it with my folks. As soon as I go home, they are like, ‘Right Nicholas, is it the Christmas episode night?!’ It’s always brilliant as my mum pretends she's not crying!”

Callum Woodhouse: “I'm glad I won't be watching it for the first time with my mother this year, I don't envy you, Nick! She is going to be sobbing! I'll be in London, because I'm rehearsing a play up until the 24th, so I won't get back until Boxing Day. But every year we do watch the Christmas one, and my family will probably get me to watch it again with them, because they always watch the episode multiple times!”

All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special 2024 – the episode will air in the UK on Channel 5 on Monday 23 December at 9pm, and it will also be available on My5. It will air on PBS Masterpiece in the US in 2025.

Obviously Christmas celebrations are underway around Forrester Creations and the Forrester mansion. Brooke and Donna (Jennifer Gareis) share a moment while Donna and Pam (Alley Mills) exchange gifts. We suspect it will be hard for Donna to navigate the Forrester family while they're stewing over the hostile takeover and betrayal at the hands of the Logans.

Though things are uncertain in her professional life, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn (Tanner Novlan) are happier and stronger than ever.

Things aren't so rosy for Luna (Lisa Yamada), who is covered in bruises, leading Bill (Don Diamont) to wonder what happened to her. Of course, our first question is why Bill is there to see her again in the first place, but we're guessing that Black Widow Luna lured Bill to see her after staging those injuries to gain sympathy in her plot to win him over.

And last, but certainly not least, we have poor Electra (Laneya Grace) thinking she's getting sympathy from her hometown friend Remy (Christian Weissman) only to find during a trip to his apartment that he's the one who has been creating the deepfake images.

Yep, it's going to be a busy, merry and messy week on The Bold and the Beautiful!

Since President Calvin Coolidge first lit a 48-foot fir tree in the presidential park outside The White House back in 1923, the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony has been an annual holiday celebration for Americans. And the time-honored tradition is back for its 102nd year, presented by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation and broadcast by CBS tonight, December 20, at 8pm Eastern Time.

Hosted by four-time Grammy-nominated country star Mickey Guyton, the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony — which took place on the Ellipse at The White House and President’s Park on Thursday, December 5 — will feature musical performances of holiday classics by a whole host of talented folks, including Adam Blackstone, Stephen Sanchez, James Taylor, Muni Long, Trombone Shorty, The War And Treaty, Trisha Yearwood and Guyton himself. The special event will also include performances by Airmen of Note, one of six musical ensembles that form the U.S. Air Force Band.

Along with the main tree — a 35-foot red spruce from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in Virginia — the holiday display will also include a collection of 58 trees decorated with one-of-a-kind, student-designed ornaments representing every U.S. state, territory and the District of Columbia.

And the festive fun won't end there — immediately following the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, CBS is airing Josh Groban's Christmas special, entitled Josh Groban & Friends Go Home for the Holidays, at 9pm ET. The titular crooner will be joined by special guests including James Bay, Jennifer Hudson and Tori Kelly.

There's a brand new detective in Death In Paradise this Christmas as EastEnders and Shetland star Don Gilet joins the cast as DI Mervin Wilson — and in the grand tradition of new Inspectors on the island of Saint Marie, he doesn't get off to the best of starts...

Since the departure of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little), the rest of the team has kept things ticking over at the police station. When a holidaymaker is murdered while dressed as Santa, however, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) realizes that he needs to step up his search for a new DI.

As luck would have it, he's informed that a detective from London named Mervin Wilson is currently on holiday in Saint Marie, so DI Wilson is seconded to the team to help with the investigation. But DI Wilson has had a horrible time on the island, and is desperate to get home — so he's not at all happy to be forced to stick around!

We caught up with Don to find out what it was like to join the long-running crime drama and about his link to Ghosts actor Jim Howick...

Netflix has added Ferry 2, a thriller about a ruthless Dutch drug lord.

If you haven't met Ferry, it’s about time you did. He's not exactly Mr Nice Guy, but catching up with the shady dealings of this drug boss could be your Christmas binge-watch, especially if you've already had enough of reindeers and rom-coms. You will, however, need to like your crime thrillers tough and gritty. The good news, though, is that everything from Ferry and his various gangs is on Netflix, both in the US and the UK.

For the uninitiated, the Ferry saga started back in 2019 with Undercover, a crime series from Holland and Belgium that was inspired by true events. At the centre of the show was a pair of cops who infiltrate a drug kingpin’s operation by posing as a couple at the campsite where he spends his weekends. Season two saw the cops investigating an illegal arms operation, while the crime boss is behind bars and trying to find out who busted him. By the time the third season came along, he’d escaped from jail and teamed up with one of the cops to overthrow his number one rival, the leader of a Turkish drugs gang.

The crime boss was, of course, Ferry (Frank Lammers) whose cunning and eye for dodgy moneymaking captured the imagination of audiences and critics alike. The show received a 95% rating from Rotten Tomatoes and was described as one of Netflix’s best international series. The first Ferry (2021) film arrived quickly, following on from the action of Undercover with the larger-than-life criminal involved in the murder of his own boss and starting up another drugs ring. And there was Ferry The Series, a prequel to the events of Undercover, with his younger self desperate for money and grabbing a golden opportunity when a big-time drugs lord is arrested. His rise to notoriety found favor yet again, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it 92%.

And now comes his latest outing, Ferry 2, released today [20 December], with a promise of more shady dealings, suspense and the man himself trying to stay ahead of the game. This time, he’s lost everything and seems to have found a kind of peace away from the underworld, but he’s hell-bent on making a return in his usual brutal, bloody way. The stakes are higher than ever and Ferry is desperate to keep the reasons for his return a closely guarded secret. As ever, burly Dutch actor Frank Lammers returns in the role that’s made him a household name in Holland, full of his usual dark brooding menace. He's putting everything on the line and it's another compelling performance from the actor who’s made the role completely his own.

Fans of Holland’s most famous criminal hulk will welcome him back with open arms and, while nothing’s been said about a threequel, Ferry 2’s mix of thrills, tension and high-octane action has all the ingredients for yet another hit. Cue the clamor for Ferry 3...

Happy Howlidays, the final entry in the 2024 Countdown to Christmas celebration on Hallmark Channel is a very special movie because it features the debut of Hallmark's new leading man as selected in the Hallmark Plus series Finding Mr. Christmas.

It is probably the understatement of the year to say that Chris McCausland has had a pretty 2024. After melting a nation's hearts and waltzing to victory in Strictly Come Dancing 2024, he now tops things off by co-starring in Bad Tidings, a soft-centered festive comedy in which he co-stars with Lee Mack.

Oh, and McCausland somehow found the time to co-write it too, with Ghosts writers Laurence Rickard and Martha Howe-Douglas. McCausland and Mack have previous as a double act. When they jointly presented an award at the TV Baftas in 2022 it was instantly obvious that they had fantastic chemistry. There was no straight man in this twosome, they were as funny as each other, trading quips and joking about the lines on the autocue script that Mack had to read for the visually impaired McCausland. The dream team then had what now looks like a dry run for Bad Tidings when McCausland had a cameo in Mack’s never-ending BBC sitcom Not Going Out. In the episode set in a train carriage, they played passengers who collided with suitably hilarious consequences.

So here they are again, clashing until the cows come home as burglar alarm salesman Neil (Mack) and Scouse accountant Scott (McCausland) who live opposite each other in a Stockport cul-de-sac. Most of the squabbles are caused by grouchy Neil’s’s small-minded curtain-twitching nosiness. During one heated exchange, Scott reveals that the neighbours have nicknamed Neil "petty spaghetti". But the big thing that gets Neil reaching boiling point is that Scott leaves his Christmas lights up all year and at night they shine straight into his bedroom over the road. Scott, like McCausland, is blind, so the lights don’t bother him, although you would think the electricity bills might. But let’s not be all petty spaghetti about plot holes. It is also probably best not to think too hard about why Scott ends up teetering on his rooftop during one of the stand-out set-pieces. Or how.

The feud comes to a head, however, when Neil tries to get the better of Scott by putting up even more illuminations than him on his house. Unfortunately, he causes a power surge and wipes out the electricity in the entire close. While everyone else, including Neil’s wife Laura (Sarah Alexander) leaves to spend Christmas with friends and family, joint community coordinators Neil and Scott have to stay and stand guard. It is all enjoyable, clean family-friendly fun. And then just when you think things can’t get any sillier a gang of cartoonish local villains, led by tough-as-boots Stacey Brennan (Rebekah Stanton), hear about the power cut and decide to rob every house in one night.

Can Neil and Scott put their differences aside and heroically defend the street? Before you can say "home alone" of course they can…. Bad Tidings is the perfect feel-good way to kick off your Christmas TV viewing. McCausland proves that not only can he do stand-up comedy and shiny floored shimmying, he can also act. Although in fairness playing a blind Liverpudlian harly involves a deep dive into Daniel Day-Lewis style method acting for him. The script is nicely sprinkled with playful asides about Scott’s lack of sight. During one argument Neil suggests that Scott is the person least qualified to run the Neighbourhood Watch.

But actually during the blackout Scott’s skilful way of knowing his way around in the dark becomes a distinct advantage as he proves himself to be a crack shot with a tin of sausage and beans. But if McCausland is the big draw here, let’s not forget Lee Mack, one of the funniest comedians in the country. Again, it’s not the biggest stretch for the Not Going Out star to play a stressed-out husband, but his character does have more depth than initially meets the eye. You might start off swiftly disliking Neil — well, it saves time — but you end up being sympathetic towards him. If you need something to get you into the Yuletide mood Bad Tidings is just the thing. It’s got laughs, it’s got heart, it’s even got a Love Actually joke in it. Let McCausland put the Chris in your Christmas.

Bad Tidings will premiere on Sunday, December 22 at 7.30 pm on Sky Max and also be available from then on NOW for Christmas 2024.

I’m all set to put the “boom boom” into your hearts for a behind-the-scenes adventure in the snowy Swiss village of Saas-Fee, where Wham! made merry music 40 years ago by filming their now-iconic video for hit single Last Christmas.

This year, “to save us from tears”, the picture-postcard ski resort of Saas-Fee takes centre stage once again as BBC2 documentary Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped (available now on BBC iPlayer) follows Andrew Ridgeley, plus Wham! backing vocalists Pepsi DeMacque-Crockett and Shirlie Kemp, on a nostalgia-filled return journey four decades later.

“The first time I went to Saas-Fee, I’d never been skiing or anything like that. I was an urbanite from London who was afraid of the cold!” laughs Pepsi. “I always thought snow was all slushy and horrible, but it was all lovely and white as it reflected the sunshine. It was beautiful, and coming back now, I see the beauty of the place again.

“Saas-Fee is so picturesque and it calls for you to get cosy and be with the ones you love,” says Pepsi. “It has this sense of nostalgia and romance, so we can’t avoid feeling that way while here. I think the other star of the show is Saas-Fee, really. It’s a pretty gorgeous place.”

Surrounded by charming, snow-capped chalets and rolling icy mountain peaks, I’m following in Pepsi and co’s famous footsteps as the high-altitude, car-free village in Switzerland celebrates the song’s 40th anniversary with a feast of Wham!-themed activities.

Nods to the band are dotted around the winding streets and I kick off the ‘Whamiversary’ at the five-star Walliserhof Grand Hotel & Spa, where the stars and film crew stayed in 1984. George’s cosy apartment on the top floor has been renamed ‘The George Michael Suite’. Decorated with photos and albums, it’s a fitting tribute to the pop star, while the spectacular view from the balcony glimpses the Dom, the highest mountain on Swiss ground.

While sipping on George’s favourite cocktail, vodka and watermelon spritz (it would be rude not to!), I learn about the commotion involving the diamanté brooch belonging to Andrew's grandmother that George gives to his love interest in the video (played by model Kathy Hill). After going missing on the day of filming, panic-stricken hotel staff scoured the rooms and corridors, until an eagle-eyed porter spotted it twinkling in the snow outside the Walliserhof.

Next up is a Wham! exhibition in the local museum, a temporary home to posters, photos, recordings and memorabilia, while not far from the hotel, we find the new Wham! monument unveiled by Andrew, Pepsi and Shirlie in the documentary.

Sporting a suitably retro ski suit, my guide Lynn welcomes me on a ‘Wham!Walk’, which tours the video’s filming locations, including the alpine Chalet Schliechte in the ‘Wildi’ part of the village, which provided exterior shots for the snowball fight and infamous “boozy” Christmas dinner scene (interiors were filmed in the cultural centre).

“Plenty of wine was consumed in that dinner scene, but not much food!” Andrew tells me, but Lynn feeds me even more tasty titbits as I approach the chalet.

“The people of Saas found it particularly amusing that George Michael arrived in the depths of winter in summer moccasins,” Lynn smiles. “He insisted on keeping his summer shoes on as long as there was no filming and gave the locals something to laugh about with his slips!”

The tour would not be complete without a ride on the instantly recognisable Felskinn cable car, where Andrew and the gang cheerily wave to George in the video’s opening sequence. Gondola operator Charly Schmidt had no idea who the pop stars were at the time and only saw the video 10 years later.

“In the 80s, it was not yet common to own a TV and nobody had English channels,” says Charly. “We had no idea that the clip was so successful!”

Andrew’s advice is ringing in my ears as I prepare to board the cable car up to the world’s highest underground funicular, the Metro Alpin, which ascends further to 3,457metres to the world’s highest revolving restaurant.

“Just don’t trip up on that ski lift like I did… several times!” laughs Andrew, who recreates the stumble in the documentary. “It’s a real privilege to be back, though, and to be with the same group of old friends. Obviously, we’re missing a very important personality there, but it’s nevertheless a really warm and affectionate experience.”

George passed away on Christmas Day in 2016 and reconnecting in the Swiss Alps for a special documentary is a tonic for his close-knit circle of friends, including Jonny Fowler, Pat Fernandes, Cheryl Harrison and David Ridler, who all starred in the video.

“Our Christmases all together were the best,” says Shirlie. “George loved this time of year, and we used to go carolling with him in disguise. But it’s a real honour to come back to Saas-Fee, and being with our old friends is both joyous and tearful.”

One of the few destinations with enough snow in November 1984, Saas-Fee was a last-minute choice for the video’s production team and Wham!’s driver at the time, Stefan Zurbriggen (who’s now the Mayor of Saas-Fee), recalls the moment the stars rolled into the resort.

“They were not equipped for winter at all, and we had to give them shoes and clothes suitable for the snow,” says Stefan. “Honestly, at the time, we didn’t know who Wham! were. But when the song came out, we immediately realised how big this thing was.”

With one billion video views, four billion audio streams and hitting the No.1 spot in 16 countries, there’s no escaping the timeless song that finally reached Christmas UK No.1 last year, especially as I stroll around Saas-Fee in December.

So before I wrap up my visit and “go-go”, I can’t resist a turn in the pop-up Wham! karaoke box, where budding George Michaels can belt out one song only. Can you guess what it is?

Oscar-winner J K Simmons is no stranger to playing Father Christmas. He's been a tech-savvy Santa in cinemas recently but in beautiful seasonal animation, Klaus, his man in the red suit is more of a mystery. And, in good news, it's on Netflix now to enjoy.

He was, in his own words, "an overnight sensation at 60”. One of the best character actors in the business, he was “that guy”: audiences recognized his face but didn’t know his name. He was Juno’s (2007) dad, the shrink in TV’s Law And Order for 16 years — and then it all changed when J K Simmons won an Oscar for his explosive performance in Damien Chazelle’s adrenaline-pumping Whiplash (2014). Brutal drums instructor, Terrence Fletcher, was very much his tempo.

Since then, the roles have flooded in, both in front of the camera and the microphone. The voice of Yellow in the M&M's commercials for years, his rich tones have featured extensively in animations on the big and small screen. On Netflix, he’s the voice of the title character in what has become a modern Christmas classic, Klaus, a hand-drawn animation that puts a fresh spin on a seasonal story and a certain bearded man in a red suit.

The warm-hearted Klaus teams Simmons with Jason Schwartzman in the story of Jesper (Schwartzman), who graduates from the postal academy as its worst student.

He gets the round nobody wants — a frozen island above the Arctic Circle where the locals are at loggerheads, never speak to each other and certainly don't write letters.

He's about to throw away his postie's bag when he finds a friend in the island's teacher Alva (Rashida Jones) and meets Klaus (Simmons), a solitary carpenter living in a cabin full of handmade toys. They make unlikely friends, but bring smiles and generosity back to the island, and create some magical new traditions.

Directed by Despicable Me co-creator Sergio Pablos, the enchanting film won the hearts of critics and audiences alike when it launched on the streamer in 2019 and was nominated for an Oscar the following year. It’s become a seasonal favorite, so it's ready and waiting to be enjoyed all over again this holiday season.

Simmons, in the meantime, will be back on our screens on February 6 for season three of Prime Video’s adult animation, Invincible, with a fourth outing already confirmed.

He might not consider himself a fan of comic books but, as newspaper proprietor J Jonah Johnson, he's one of the most familiar faces in the Spider-Man franchise. This time he lends his voice to Noah Grayson, aka Omni-Man, the father of the show’s teenage hero Mark (voiced by Steven Yeun). With a stellar line-up of voice actors, including Seth Rogen, Walton Goggins, Ben Schwartz and Mark Hamill, it’s one of the most anticipated shows for 2025.

What’s in store? A new look for Mark, that’s for sure, with his previous yellow and blue spandex replaced by a blue and black costume that was a favorite with fans of the comics. Defending the Earth looks like getting even tougher as an old enemy from the previous season could make an unwelcome return while the tone of the entire show darkens and Mark becomes more aggressive and isolated. His half-brother, Oliver, is growing fast, which points to Kid Omni-Man showing up sooner rather than later. And a brand new “Big Bad” could also be on the way.

Season three will be packed with action and characters to keep the fans coming back for more. The show’s writers are still hard at work on season four, so it’s still under wraps, but creator Robert Kirkman has been quoted as saying they’ve also put together a plan that could produce as many as ten Invincible seasons. But the next series will be here before we know it — and it can’t come soon enough.

There’s always been plenty of Christmas spirit on Saturday Night Live, as come December, the late-night sketch show has loved to poke fun at the holidays over the years. NBC is giving fans the chance to rewatch many of their favorite SNL Christmas sketches in primetime this year, as A Saturday Night Live Christmas airs on Wednesday, December 18, at 9 pm ET/PT.

With more than 50 years worth of sketches to choose from, A Saturday Night Live Christmas is a two-hour special that will run great sketch after great sketch about Christmas. That could very well include when Rachel Dratch’s Debbie Downer meets Santa, Kate McKinnon’s Ms. Rafferty and her not-so-great experience at the North Pole, Eddie Murphy’s Mister Robinson and Chloe Fineman’s pitch-perfect impression of Jennifer Coolidge during the holidays.

To see exactly what classic sketches are featured, anyone with access to their local NBC station can tune in to watch A Saturday Night Live Christmas on December 18. NBC is available to those with a traditional pay-TV provider, a TV antenna, a live TV streaming service (Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV, YouTube TV) or a Peacock Premium Plus subscription. If you just have a Peacock Premium subscription, the special will be available to watch in its entirety the next day, Thursday, December 19. All Peacock subscribers can look for any of these sketches on their own with the streamer’s complete Saturday Night Live library.

This all means that fans are getting a double dose of Saturday Night Live this week, because in addition to this weeknight special, an all-new episode of Saturday Night Live season 50 is airing on December 21, at 11:30 pm ET/8:30 pm PT, with Martin Short hosting and musical guest Hozier. You can bet there will be a Christmas sketch or two in that new episode as well. FYI, the December 21 episode will be the last SNL episode of 2024, as the show will go on break for the holidays but be back in 2025.

A Saturday Night Live Christmas has become something of an annual tradition on NBC, airing for a number of years now. That has also expanded to a Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving special, which aired earlier this year and is streaming on Peacock.

Belle Dingle has had a terrible year, the worst. 

Her marriage to Tom King became a living nightmare as he abused, attacked and controlled her. Her dad Zak passed away. Her mental health was pushed to the brink, her family and friends were kept at bay, her beloved dog Piper died.

But with Tom having been collared by the police, she's going to be able to breathe freely and piece her life back together.

On Christmas Day, she's given a huge injection of joy – which could really help her on her way back to happiness – when she's reunited with Piper!

It's Vinny and Gabby who track down the pooch who'd been taken in by a couple believing Tom's twisted story that they were 'saving' her from an abusive owner.

Belle's having a moment at Zak's graveside when Piper bounds over and leaps into her arms.

It's a Christmas miracle!

Elsewhere there's no joy for Marlon who's about to get one of the worst shocks a parent could get.

Over at Home Farm a flash forward in time reveals something terrible is about to go down…

Is Kim about to find out that Will has been planning revenge while she's been planning their future? Will the couple renew their vows?

It's Christmas Eve and Emmerdale's Ruby Miligan can only take so much more of her abusive dad (ITV, 7.00pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

Ruby Miligan has been tolerating her dad Anthony knowing that she'll lose her daughter Steph if she doesn't.

But having her father, who abused her throughout her childhood, in her home is killing her.

With him clearly living in an alternative reality, seemingly refusing to even acknowledge or reference any wrongdoing on his part, Anthony is sniping around, criticising Ruby at every turn.

Knowing Christmas Day is going to be almost impossible to bear, Ruby braces herself to give her husband Caleb and daughter Steph the festive jolly day are hoping for, unaware of the abhorrent crime that's gone unchecked at the heart of the family.

Will Ruby be able to keep it together or is she on the verge of collapse?

Elsewhere, there's horror for Marlon at Smithy where April acts out her angst, hitting the bottle and tearing into her loved ones…

Meanwhile, Belle is desperate to find out what really became of her pet Piper – so much so that she's thinking about visiting Tom in prison to insist on the truth.

It’s Christmas Day in Chester and Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) has his suspicions confirmed in tonight’s second helping of Hollyoaks on at 7.30pm (See our TV Guide for full listings).

Dillon has recently found out that his friend Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) is pregnant but that her fiancé, Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham) is NOT the father as she would have everyone, including Robbie, believe.

Tonight Dillon works out that it is Robbie’s brother, Freddie Roscoe (Charlie Clapham) who is the real father of Vicky’s baby.

Terrified that everyone is about to discover her secret, Vicky drags Dillon into the toilets and urges him to keep quiet.

However it seems that someone else is in the loo and has overheard every word!

Meanwhile, Freddie wakes up in Mercedes McQueen’s (Jennifer Metcalfe) bedroom and is still planning on the two of them running away together.

However, Mercy is starting to have doubts about the madcap plan.

When The McQueens catch Freddie sneaking out of Mercy’s room they are secretly pleased for her that she and Freddie seem to make each other very happy.

However, one person who definitely isn’t going to be happy is Freddie’s wife, Grace Black (Tamara Wall).

Grace is putting on a brave face and insists they go to The Dog for Christmas dinner but Freddie, who is planning on breaking the news to her that he has fallen in love with Mercedes, tells her he needs to speak to her.

When Myra McQueen (Nicole Barber-Lane) finds Mercedes planning to run away she is initially furious.

Things soon get very emotional between the pair of them as they clash.

The villagers head to the Dog for some Christmas Day celebrations and Misbah and Donny take advantage of the mistletoe, celebrating their first Christmas together as an engaged couple.

They raise a toast to landlord Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) for putting on such a fabulous spread and Donny invites everyone to sing carols later in the village.

Elsewhere, Nancy is suspicious that Darren is having an affair, and Grace is drowning her sorrows.

Meanwhile, a guilty Vicky is attempting to cover up the truth and suggests to Robbie that they get married.

However her proposal falls flat and when Robbie is distracted, she’s worried he knows the truth, that he is NOT the father of their baby but that Freddie is.

Meanwhile as the villagers gather together to sing carols, Freddie braces himself to tell Grace that he is leaving her and that he and Mercedes are planning on moving away together.

However a chilling event is about to change everything!

What has happened?

It’s Christmas Eve and Nana McQueen (Diane Langton) and Myra McQueen (Nicole Barber-Lane) arrive at the McQueen family home ready for some celebrations.

However they are shocked by what they find in tonight’s Hollyoaks which has a double-bill of episodes starting at 7pm on E4 (See our TV Guide for full listings).

The pair who have flown in from their home in Alicante for Christmas are devastated to see Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) looking so unwell.

Mercedes has recently begun chemotherapy to target her bowel cancer but was given bad news by doctor Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi) in yesterday’s episode.

When Mercedes tells Myra about her diagnosis, Myra is hurt that she has been kept in the dark.

The McQueens rally together and decide they need to make Christmas an extra special day this year.

Freddie Roscoe (Charlie Clapham) goes to see Mercedes but, with Myra there, she tells him he needs to leave.

However, a determined Freddie doesn’t want to stay away and later he climbs in through the window where he catches Mercedes unaware and tells her he is in love with her!

Freddie’s wife, Grace Black (Tamara Wall) is not pleased when she notices Freddie has slipped away from the party at the Love Boat.

Will she track him down?

Meanwhile, Martha Blake (Sherrie Hewson) confronts her son, Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) for telling her she killed Ethan when it was in fact his daughter, Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) who was the true murderer.

Jez admits that he has known all along that it was Sienna. At the grotto Sienna and Martha confront Jez.

Sienna is rattled that Jez seems to have calmly accepted what she has done and has spent weeks pretending he didn’t know the truth.

She confesses to Jez what really happened at the wedding and tells him that she wants to go to the police and set the record straight because she can’t live with the guilt.

In a heart-to-heart Jez pleads with her not to.

He tells her it’s her duty to look after her twin children Sophie and Sebastian.

Back at the Blakes and faced with the joy of Christmas, Sienna stays silent.

However, Martha hasn’t forgotten Sienna’s confession.

Is she just biding her time before she speaks out?

Over at the Osbornes, dad Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor-Dawson) is trying to put things right with his wife Nancy (Jessica Fox) after having gone mysteriously AWOL for weeks.

A remorseful Darren insists that from now on he will always put family first and Nancy is doing her best to put on a brave face.

However, more drama erupts when an unexpected visitor turns up at the Osbornes.

Elsewhere, Myra comes back from the hospital with some good news about Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin).

Plus Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi) and her fiancé Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) host a Christmas party and love is in the air.

However, things get awkward with Freddie and Mercedes both there.

The two of them, who have recently fallen for each other, sneak off to an upstairs room where they share some precious stolen moments together.

But how will Mercedes respond when Freddie suggests the two of them should run away together? Tomorrow!
