Eli Dingle’s bitter resentment of his brother Marlon’s happier life exploded in a nail-biting fight at the top of a multi-storey car park which ended with Eli (Joe Gilgun) hanging over the edge and clinging on for dear life. It was Marlon who saved him – and later the same week, 10 years, ago, it was Eli who saved Debbie Dingle. She was in danger this time 10 years ago, after going on the rob went badly wrong… Debbie, her auntie Chas and their new BFF Lexi Nicholls stole a necklace. That was bad enough. Then Debbie decided to double-cross her fellow thieves by replacing the necklace with a fake and selling the original through Eric Pollard, splitting the profits with him. But jeweller Bruce (Malcolm Tomlinson) was on to her and Eli had to pull him off Debbie before he strangled her.

Emmerdale fans were introduced to Laurel Thomas’s parents, Doug (Duncan Preston) and Hilary Potts (Paula Wilcox), in April 2007 and they returned in September to see their new grandson, Daniel… Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) was pleased to see them, too – until her mum started telling her how to care for her baby. Their mother-daughter relationship took a battering – and tragedy was just around the corner…

This time 10 years ago, Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) chose his wife Claire (Julia Haworth) over his crazy lover Casey Carswell (Zoe Henry) – but Casey wouldn’t accept Ashley’s rejection. She told Audrey Roberts they were getting married and then she snatched Claire and Ashley’s baby boy, Freddie. Ashley tracked Casey to her flat, where she had locked herself on the balcony with Freddie and she told Ashley she would jump and take Freddie with her. Claire arrived and Casey forced Ashley to tell her they had slept together. Claire rescued Freddie and Casey was arrested… but it looked like Ashley couldn’t rescue his marriage…

Violet Wilson (Jenny Platt) and Sean Tully were excited about going to the first scan of the baby they were having – on a purely platonic, friendship level. And while Sean was thrilled at seeing pictures of the baby on screen, he also could hardly take his eyes off the sonographer, Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou). It was lust at first sight!

EastEnders

Alcoholic Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) had his own special way of making an entrance to a birthday party this time 10 years ago…he turned up drunk and fell face first into the cake. Inappropriate on so many levels but, in this instance, mainly because the party was to celebrate Janet Mitchell’s first birthday. Not even the hired clown thought Phil’s party piece was entertaining and poor Janet was in tears.

Deano Wicks and Chelsea Fox (Tiana Benjamin) were caught in their own web of lies after they framed Sean Slater for the attack in the shop on Patrick Trueman. The truth came out and Deano and Chelsea were arrested in the Queen Vic as they spun their story about them being heroes to a journalist. They were charged with perverting the course of justice… But the police were the least of their worries. Sean Slater wanted his own justice!

Hollyoaks

Hannah Ashworth (Emma Rigby) couldn’t hide her eating disorder any longer so she pretended to her family and the doctor that she had it under control and was dealing with it. Even seeing her fellow anorexic and friend Melissa Hurst  in hospital didn’t give Hannan an appetite for facing up to her problem. Instead, she helped Melissa break out of hospital and took her to her home. But Melissa didn’t have the strength to go on the run and she had a heart attack and died. Melissa was the first soap character to die of an eating disorder

Leo Valentine had moved to Hollyoaks to be with his children after their mother Diane died in 2006. But they didn’t know he had left behind a secret family… They found out when his former mistress, Valerie Holden (Jacqueline Leonard, but later played by Samantha Giles) turned up with his illegitimate children, Danny (David Judge) and Lauren (Dominique Jackson).

Leo's secret literally crashed into his family’s life as Valerie announced their arrival by throwing a suitcase through a window as Leo and daughter Sasha were eating dinner!

Faith Dingle and Rishi go out for a drink and end up back at Butler's, where the date suddenly goes wrong!

Debbie Dingle is desperate. Daughter Sarah needs to get to Prague for urgent cancer treatment, but Debbie is banned from travelling. Charley Webb explains what Debbie does next

Sarah Sugden is due to travel to Prague for cutting edge cancer treatment, but her mum Debbie Dingle can’t go as she has a criminal record. What is she to do? Get a fake passport, of course! And who better to sort this than her former lover Ross Barton.

“Debbie is desperate to go to Prague with Sarah,” Charley Webb told Soaplife.

What is this treatment that Sarah is going for? “It’s called proton treatment, but is not available in the UK – Prague is the closest place where you can get it. Debbie has chosen this treatment as there are fewer side effects than you get with the chemo or radiation therapy that Sarah was having. It will be a bit easier for her in the long run.”

But Debbie can’t leave the country… “She’s on bail and isn’t allowed out of the country, so she would have to travel on a fake passport and that is a massive risk. If she got caught, it would be really stressful for Sarah.”

What do the rest of the Dingle family say? “They are all against the idea as they don’t want to see Debbie get into more trouble. Eventually, they force her to agree to let her mum Charity [Emma Atkins] do the trip with Sarah.”

But then Debbie changes her mind. Why? “She hears Sarah talking to her great grandmother Faith [Sally Dexter] and saying that she is afraid of going to Prague and dying without her mum there. That breaks her heart and makes her decide to take the risk to be there with her daughter when she needs her most.”

Why does she go to Ross to help? “She knows that Ross [Michael Parr] will go out of his way to help. She would normally go to Cain [Jeff Hordley], but as he is so against her travelling to Prague, she can’t.”

Does she go? “She gets as far as the airport, but Faith has secretly taken her boarding passes and she doesn’t realise until she goes to get them out to check in.”

How does she get on with Faith? "Faith goes to live with Debbie, so they are really involved with one another’s lives. Faith wants to be there for the family.”

Sarah Sugden is shocked when she stumbles across a woman hiding in the Dingles' barn. Who is she and what does she want?….

Young Sarah Sugden is taken aback when she discovers a woman who seems very ill, nestled among the straw bales in the Dingles' barn in Emmerdale.

Determined to help her she later sneaks back to the barn and offers the woman food and some cough medicine.

The following day, and with Sarah feeling increasingly worried about the lady, she sneakily steals some money to give her.

Who is this stranger who seems determined to hang around Emmerdale despite her poor health? What secrets is she hiding and why has she suddenly shown up in the village?

Later on Debbie is horrified to rumble Sarah's antics and demands to know why she stole the cash. When Sarah reveals the mystery woman in the barn, Debbie goes off to investigate but the woman has vanished but not for long….She resurfaces at Pollard's B&B, but causes panic when she suddenly collapses and an ambulance has to be called. As the villagers rally about it soon becomes clear that some people know this mystery lady and let's just say, they're not exactly happy to see her! Charley Webb talks about life as a mother of two and her... and Debbie Dingle's.... return to Emmerdale

After taking a year off to have her second child with partner and Emmerdale co-star Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe), Charley Webb has just made a dramatic return to our screens as Debbie Dingle, who’s been living in France and is now on the run with her children, Sarah and Jack.

Charley, 28, who is mum to Buster, aged six, and one-year-old Bowie Grey, spoke to Soaplife about her return to work.

“I’ve had mixed feelings about going back,” she said. “I’m excited, but apprehensive about working and having a young baby to look after.”

Did you keep up with Emmerdale on TV during your year off? “I really struggled to watch it actually, because having two children means my life is so much busier than it was before. I’ve been really strict with routine this time round, so I’ve only caught bits of it as 7.00pm is bath and bottle time in our house.”

What do you think about the show winning loads of awards? “It’s amazing, but to me awards aren’t really that important. What’s really nice is that people are finally recognising how good the show actually is.”

Have you missed Emmerdale? “Yes, but I saw a lot of my friends from work while I was off so I’ve kept in touch with what’s been happening. A year is a long time, but it’s just flown past for me. I haven’t missed learning lines as I’ve really enjoyed having the free time. But I’m getting into the swing of things again. I used to learn all my lines the night before, but I won’t do that now. I’m trying to learn lines at work so that I’m not always doing it at home in the evenings.”

And how do you feel now you’re back? “I love my time at Emmerdale because there’s always something interesting going on with Debbie. I wouldn’t have looked forward to coming back as much if Debbie was a boring character.”

Being a mum to two young children while working at the same time must be exhausting… “I’m OK. I’m the same as any other mum who’s getting up in the middle of the night and then having to do the school run. We live quite a distance from Buster’s school, so we have to leave by 8am, and trying to get the two of them out of the house is pretty stressful. Fortunately, Matthew’s cancer storyline came when the baby wasn’t sleeping, so it actually helped him look knackered for the role! It got to a point where we didn’t even notice him looking tired because it became so normal for him.”

Do you have any wedding plans? “You’re joking! I’m the most laid-back person when it comes to things like that. I haven’t even thought about it because I’ve been so busy with the baby. I haven’t picked up a wedding magazine. No, we’re really happy the way we are and it’s not the most important thing at the moment. We’re focusing on our children.”

Do you feel differently about motherhood second time around? “I think I’m much more laid-back about it this time. I mean, recently Buster was dragging Bowie across the floor by his feet and the baby thought it was hilarious! I think if that had happened before I’d be like ‘Arghhh, my God!’ But now I’m just like ‘Yeah, whatever.’ In a lot of ways, it’s so much easier the second time.”

Does Matthew like having you back at work with him? “Our work lives are very, very separate and we don’t see each other at Emmerdale in particular. I’m a recluse. I like to sit in my dressing room by myself. I never sit in the green room or anything like that because I’m always learning lines or chatting to people. Matthew’s much more sociable and will sit with everyone.”

Do you want more children? “I’m told the jump from two to three feels even bigger. At the moment, I’m plodding along with two and everything is fine. With Buster, it’s like having five kids as he’s got so much energy. We’re thrilled to have Bowie.

"Buster was so desperate to have a brother, I think he’d have been heartbroken if we’d had a girl. He looks at Bowie and says, ‘I can’t believe I’ve got a brother!’ As for the future, I’d never say never when it comes to having another baby.”

Charley Webb reveals the murky circumstances that have brought Debbie back to Emmerdale and previews the drama to come...

It turns out that Debbie Dingle’s new life in France wasn’t as idyllic as she’d hoped. Cain’s fiery daughter is back home in Emmerdale and in big trouble, Charley Webb tells Soaplife…

Tell us about Debbie’s return? “Cain’s watching the news and sees something on CCTV. Something has happened and he sees footage of Debbie. He talks to Charity and they argue over what to do. Meanwhile, Debbie and the two kids are being chased. She manages to get to the village and needs help. She’s in trouble and two heavies are looking for her.”

What do these guys want? “They want money and intend to use Debbie’s kids as collateral.”

This is nothing to do with Ross Barton then? “It isn’t, but you never know. It was all a little bit weird when Debbie left, so I am sure they will pick that up somewhere down the line. There will always be some sort of drama between them.”

What sort of life has she been living in France? “It’s been chaotic. I’m sure she will have met some guy and that has something to do with her return. She is up to her neck in it and when she comes back, it is with a bang.”

Will Cain and Charity be able to bail her out? “They do their best. It will be the Dingles at their finest.”

What will she think if she finds out that Ross and Charity have been fraternising? “I am sure it will cause drama between her and Charity. Nothing Charity does surprises Debbie; she is just a little bit more disappointed each time. She will definitely have something to say about it.”

How does Debbie feel about Ross now? “I am not sure. She has had a year away from him. You never know, she might say to Charity ‘It’s okay, you have him.’ Debbie hated him when she left the village, but then again, they have this incredible chemistry. Ross has had a bad time with James dying and perhaps Debbie will want to try and save him.”

Is Debbie disappointed about Cain and Moira splitting up? “Yes, because she thinks that Moira is good for Cain. She certainly doesn’t want him back with Charity, as that is always carnage.”

She's been living in France since she found out that her lover Ross had lied about shooting Robert Sugden... But now Debbie Dingle is back!

Cain is stunned when his daughter bursts onto the scene, and soon finds out his daughter is in big trouble and is on the run. As the concerned Dingles rally round to help her, Cain's other priority is to keep Ross at bay. But will the former lovers be able to resist temptation? And what's Debbie done to warrant such a drama?

When Debbie Dingle finds out Ross shot Robert in Emmerdale, she decides she has to get away – fast, Charley Webb tells Soaplife.

Does Debbie believe Ross has turned his back on crime?

"She knows he will always do dangerous stuff, but she believes he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise their relationship."

So how does she react when police say they have evidence to place Ross at the scene of Robert’s shooting?

"She confronts Ross [Michael Parr], who protests his innocence. She knows it could be possible, but even so, she gives him an alibi."

The trouble doesn’t go away, though, does it?

"No. Robert [Ryan Hawley] pulls a gun on Ross and things reach a head between Debbie and Ross. Debbie is at a loss as to what to do, so she visits her mum, Charity, in prison."

What makes her go to Charity?

"She has nobody else to turn to. She is heartbroken because Ross has lied to her. He has shot someone and she doesn’t want that sort of person around her children. She wants her mum Charity [Emma Atkins] to understand where she is coming from."

And what does Debbie do after that?

"Debbie realises she needs to be on her own for a while. She leaves the village and doesn’t tell anybody where she is going.

You are now on maternity leave to have your second baby, will you watch Emmerdale while you are off?

"I’ll record it and keep up. Also, lots of friends from work want to come and visit, so they’ll keep me up to date. I also plan to take the new baby in to meet everyone."

It's a jaw-dropping, life-changing week for Emmerdale as Pete Barton and Debbie Dingle's wedding turns into carnage when a helicopter plunges into the reception at the village hall.

Debbie, of course, has been conducting a torrid affair with Pete's brother Ross, a relationship which Pete discovers at the reception when he reads a Dear John letter Debbie wrote when she was about to leave him. As he reels from the discovery, there's a bigger shock to come...

Before that, Pete proudly tells his bride that he’s booked a surprise helicopter to whisk them away on their honeymoon. Elsewhere, however, Chrissie is rowing with husband Robert and she douses his car in petrol and sets it alight. But the fire quickly spread to Adam Barton's car, then on to some gas canisters. When they explode, the descending helicopter is caught in the flames!

The stunt is unsurpassed in Emmerdale's 37 years on air.

Some villagers will die in the disaster, but who?

Emmerdale's Charley Webb told What's on TV that Debbie's love triangle with Ross and Pete Barton has been perfect because it hasn't gone on too long.

The big revelation of the affair is set to take place in Tuesday's climactic hour-long disaster episode and Charley said, unlike many soap affairs, the storyline 'hasn't gone on too long, it's gone on long enough, [but] you get the result you want quite quickly'.

Charley added the disaster episode was a treat to film. "I'm always excited when there's a stunt. It actually takes the pressure of us because it's not about the actors with the stunts, it's about the stunt teams, the teams that do the crashes, the explosions and the fire, so I actually find it much easier to do than the emotional stuff because that's when the pressure is really on. The pressure's not when you're just lying on the floor!"

She suggested that Debbie may not escape the disaster unscathed and whether or not she survived was 'highly questionable'.

Emmerdale promises that nothing will ever be the same again after the wedding of Debbie Dingle and Pete Barton next week. But how so?

It's not just the fact the love triangle, in which Pete's brother Ross has been having a torrid romance with Debbie, is about to go VERY public, but events away from the church and village hall are about to explode, leading to devastation that may even rival the infamous Beckindale air disaster of 1993.

Before that though, Cain drops Debbie's Dear John letter and Sarah innocently adds it to the wedding pile – for Pete to read at the reception later! Try explaining that, Debbie.

But as Pete tries to digest the contents, Dan rushes in with news of terrifying accident in another part of the village.

Has there ever been a soap wedding that has so much loaded against its success than the impending nuptials of Emmerdale's Debbie Dingle and Pete Barton? We don't think so!

Pete has been blissfully unaware that Debbie's been conducting a torrid romance with his brother, Ross, under his nose and it was only the revelation that Ross fathered Moses, the baby of her mum Charity, that moved Debbie to decide that Pete was the Barton for her. Hardly the romance of the decade.

The wedding is due to take place in Emmerdale next week, but a heartbroken Ross may have something to say about that. And what happened to the missing Dear John letter that Debbie wrote to Pete?

• Star Charley Webb, who plays Debbie, explains her fears that Ross is a loose cannon who could explode during the wedding, while her Dear John letter to Pete may yet pop up even though Cain says he's disposed of it, and the secret recording of her telling Ross she'll do anything to be with him could be broadcast to the whole wedding.

It's such a climactic storyline that we decided we had to go on location in Yorkshire to see how filming progressed. Check these behind the scenes photos...

Wedding of the century? Disaster of the decade more like!

But doesn't the village hall look lovely? Emmerdale's head of design Gillian Slight said: "We decided to make the colour scheme pale pastels with lots of draped white, diaphanous muslin and hundreds of hanging paper lanterns, so that when things suddenly go very wrong and disaster strikes, the resulting devastation is all the more poignant. The beautiful wedding is spectacularly trashed!"

Charley Webb (Debbie) was in the early stages of her second pregnancy when she filmed the wedding day scenes and had a stunt double for the big disaster. She wasn’t the only one – her dress had five doubles.

Head of costume Sue Sheehan-Dare told us that ‘because there is a disaster, we needed the dress in various stages so we have six of them. It is not only the dress – every one of the wedding guests has a copy of their outfit. And they are all fire proof!'

The skies were overcast on the day we visited and Charley clutched a hot water bottle in-between takes. "I always have a hot water bottle," says Charley who also donned a puffer coat and a pair of furry boots. "It’s not so warm today and because it is supposed to be sunny on Debbie’s wedding day, we’ve had to change some scenes and I’ve got to learn a new set of lines."

While tensions are running high throughout the village, cast and crew were all smiles in-between takes. "It's nice coming to work and being able to smile as Belle has been through so much in the past year," said Eden Taylor-Draper who plays her.

"I don’t know how Belle will cope with everything that happens at the wedding, but I love it when the whole cast are together in the village. We get a chance to catch up with people we might not normally film with."

A touch up between takes. Charley is attended to while Anthony Quinlan (Pete Barton) looks.. pensive.

There's a lot of waiting around on set when big events are filmed. "We are doing a lot of bonding," said Joe Gill (Finn). "We chat a lot of nonsense, I’ve been helping Gillian with the crossword, but we got a clue wrong and it all went belly up. Best thing about today is Finn’s suit. I have more compliments than I’ve ever had – I might casually walk off with it when we’ve finished filming!"

Anthony added: "I’m enjoying the camaraderie on set. There’s a real buzz around the place today."

The younger cast members were out in force for Debbie and Pete’s big day and had no end of adults to spoil them, play games and lend them their phones. 

With the reception in full swing, Kelvin Fletcher, who plays Andy Sugden, took the opportunity to throw some shapes on the dance floor, much to the delight of Amelia Flanagan, who plays April.

"I’m really enjoying this," he told us. "Thankfully, Andy works out in the gym a lot and doesn’t tire easily."

"He has not taken the news well. He thinks Moses will slow him down and stop him being who he really is. It is not in his nature to be a dad. He wants to be honest with Debbie (Charley Webb) who is bringing up Moses at the moment, but every time he goes to say something, they are interrupted. He is also afraid she will not want him if she finds out he is her brother’s dad!"

“The problem is, her heart lies with both. She loves Pete [Anthony Quinlan] and he offers her security and a stable family life, but she can’t keep away from Ross [Michael Parr] and is falling in love with him. It’s pulling her apart as she doesn’t know which way to go.”

“Ross finds a stolen car at the garage and has to get rid of it before the police arrive. While he’s doing that, Emma’s off telling Pete [Anthony Quinlan] that there’s something going on between Debbie and his Ross.”

What’s it like working with Gillian (Kearney, who plays Emma)?

“Gillian has been a great addition to the show. She’s shaping up to be a real monster, isn’t she?  She’s filling in for the Charity character, as we needed someone to come in and be a female villain.”

What happens when Pete accuses Debbie (Charley Webb) of having feelings for Ross?

“She storms out and ends up in Ross’s arms. They kiss and he thinks that she’s finally going to be his. Afterwards, Debbie says she doesn’t have feelings for him, but he thinks she’s lying to herself.”

What’s been the highlight of your time in the show so far?

“Working with Verity [Rushworth - Donna] was so much fun. She’s just a laugh a minute -  completely nuts in the best way. Someone sent me a clip of the aftermath of Donna’s death. I watched it back and I still get a little bit sad about it.”

Who should Debbie pick?

“The viewers who want her to go for Pete clearly don’t want to be entertained. It’s like in Big Brother. Getting rid of the nasty people kills it. Keep the evil buggers in!”

Emmerdale's Ross-Debbie-Pete love triangle is hotting up faster than our summer and Emmerdale's Michael Parr, who plays bad boy Ross Barton, says Ross would change for Debbie Dingle.

“I think if she [Debbie] was to commit to Ross, you would see a big change in him,” Michael says.

“With Donna [Windsor - Verity Rushworth], he was willing to become a father to April, even though she had Marlon [Dingle - Mark Charnock]. He needs someone to commit as well, so you’d be surprised what you’d see if she did.”

Charley Webb, who plays Debbie, has admitted the outcome of the love triangle is hard to predict.

“This is a difficult question. Pete’s very safe, he’s got a safe future. Ross is the exciting one so it’s difficult to make that decision,” she explained.

“She loves Pete, so it makes sense for her to stay with him but she's being drawn to Pete,” Charley added.

Anthony Quinlan, who plays Pete, added: “Pete knows there’s definitely something going on but love is blind and he’s besotted by Debbie. So all these tell-tale signs he’s seeing, he is putting down to Ross.

“He’s blaming Ross for everything because in his eyes, he loves her and doesn’t want to admit that she’s the one being unfaithful.”

"Debbie tries to cover her feelings," says Charley. "But you see an emotional side to her and realise there might be more to her feelings for Ross than just friendship."

In exciting episodes of Emmerdale showing next week, will it all kick off between the Barton brothers when Pete begins to realise his fiancee has eyes for Ross? And will Ross survive his bare-knuckle punch-up?

"There's no love lost between Ross and Pete," says Michael Parr who plays Ross. "They are both infatuated with the same girl. So if Ross gets one over on his brother that's another victory for him."

There’s a lot of fighting going on in Emmerdale, Charley Webb tells Soaplife - and people are going to get hurt!

We’ve already seen how the chemistry crackles between Ross Barton and Debbie Dingle… Now their passion is ignited again when he takes place in a dangerous, illegal fight to try to pay back gangster Charlie. The sight of Ross’s bloody, bare torso is too much for Debbie - and her fiancé Pete notices.

“He grows suspicious,” says Charley. “He sees that Debbie’s afraid for Ross and realises there might be something more between them.”

What does Debbie think about Ross fighting?

“She’s panicking. It’s illegal and she’s worried Ross [Michael Parr] is going to get hurt. He’s doing it to get out of a mess and she’s really worried for his safety.”

Does she have feelings for him?

“Yes - but her feelings are all over the place. Debbie has strong feelings for Ross and Pete [Anthony Quinlan]. She’s very much in love with Pete, but her feelings for Ross are powerful, too. She enjoys the excitement he brings. She’s very confused.”

Does Debbie try to stop the fight?

“She tries to stop Ross by using Zak as an excuse. Zak [Steve Halliwell] pawns Lisa’s [Jane Cox] jewellery to bet on Ross winning and Debbie knows they don’t have any money. She tells Ross about that because she doesn’t want him to think she’s worried because of the feelings she has for him.”

“He gets more and more worried about what’s going on between Debbie and Ross as the fight progresses.”

Debbie really is torn between two lovers, Emmerdale’s Charley Webb tells Soaplife… And she reveals a shocking secret when Emma tries to interfere.

Debbie’s definitely her mother’s daughter. Charity likes the bad boys and Debbie can’t resist them, either. You’d think she’d want a lot less drama in her life after killer Cameron and yet she’s still drawn to Ross… They even share another 'moment' just before she gets engaged to Pete. No wonder Ross is jealous.

“Pete gives Debbie a sense of security,” says Charley. “But Ross is the excitement.”

Tell us about this 'moment' that Ross (Michael Parr) and Debbie have...

“They’re hiding in a hotel room. Ross has stolen some money and dragged Debbie into it. Debbie’s furious as she thinks they’re going to a breakdown and they end up in a hotel room. They get to a point where it could just happen, but Ross blows it because he gets a little bit too serious with her. Debbie snaps back to reality and thinks, ‘What am I doing? This is wrong’.”

Is that why she tells everyone that Emma tried to smother Ross as a baby?

“No. Debbie and Emma [Gillian Kearney] don’t get on. Debbie’s seen Emma watching Chas a lot and thinks it’s weird. Emma tries to play Debbie, saying: ‘You think you’ve got Pete [Anthony Quinlan] where you want him, but you haven’t’. Debbie loses it and goes for her. When Emma suggests Debbie’s not a good mum, it’s the final straw and the Ross secret just comes out of her mouth.”

So why does Debbie get engaged to Pete?

“After the hotel incident with Ross, Debbie’s very confused about her feelings. It was easy to forget about Ross when he was with Donna. In the hotel, Debbie sees what her feelings for Ross are and it scares her. She thinks, ‘I need to make a decision now’ and decides that Pete’s what she’s looking for, he’s the whole package. She thinks if she proposes to Pete, she can’t make a mess of things by going for Ross.”

Will her feelings for Ross vanish?

“Absolutely not. They’re right there and she’s trying to fight them.”

So, lots of drama to come?

“Yes. I’ve had quite a lot of time off and now I’m right back into it. What’s great is that there is so much to explore with Ross and Debbie.”

Who should Debbie pick?

“As far as viewers are concerned it’s 50/50. The ones who want her to be happy think she should stay with Pete and the ones who want it to be more exciting say Ross. I love reading the feedback and seeing what people think.”

So, what’s Ross up to?

“Chrissie’s ex Donny has got this bloke Charlie on his back. Chrissie [Louise Marwood] gives Donny [Alan Convy] £10,000 and Donny goes to a hotel to give the money to Charlie - but Ross intercepts him and takes the cash, pretending to be a henchman.”

How does Debbie (Charley Webb) get roped in?

“Ross tells her they’re going out on a breakdown. She’s angry when she realises Ross has put her in a lot of danger.”

And they end up hidden in a room with some heavies after them… What happens?

“It’s very charged between them. They have a bit of a heart to heart and Ross tells Debbie about Donna. But they don’t cross a line. However, if that was my girlfriend in there with Ross, I would be furious.”

Does Ross want Debbie for himself?

“Yes. Ross is attracted to excitement and she’s exciting. She’s not offering it to him on a plate, either, he’s got to work his backside off. Ross knows she’s with Pete [Anthony Quinlan] and that it’s wrong, but he doesn’t really care. He just wants the girl.”

Bet he’s not happy when Pete and Debbie get engaged, then!

“Ross has it in his head that Debbie wants him. He thinks she’s just afraid because of past experiences.”

Are we in for a love triangle?

“I don’t know, but I think Debbie should get off with Ross!”

There's a sexy love triangle brewing in Emmerdale, as bad boy Ross Barton sets his sights on brother Pete's girlfriend, Debbie!

"Ross finds Debbie very attractive and wants to be with her," says Michael Parr, who plays Ross. "He likes the fact she's a bit risky. Debbie was the first girl Ross clapped eyes on when he arrived in the village and I don't think that's ever really gone away for him. Ross doesn't care about walking all over his brother, Pete, to get what he wants! He's got no real alliance with him."

Things heat up between Ross and Debbie in the Emmerdale double-bill on Thursday, April 23, when he tricks her into getting involved in a dangerous hotel heist. But when the pair find themselves trapped in a hotel room together, hiding from the bad guys, will Debbie give in to Ross's charms?

"It's difficult for Debbie. Pete is really safe. He can offer her a lot more, a safe future for her kids," explains Charley Webb, who plays Debbie. "They're very happy and they've got this domestic life going on with the children. But Ross is more exciting, and a bit more like Debbie's dad, Cain. So it's which way will she go?"

Emmerdale’s Charley Webb has revealed Debbie could risk losing her kids because of boyfriend Pete Barton.

Debbie’s ex Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) is fighting her for custody of their kids Jack and Sarah, because he is not happy about former drug dealer Pete (Anthony Quinlan) living with them.

“Andy doesn’t really know Pete - he could still be selling drugs, and he could have them in the house with the kids,” says Charley who, as mum to four-year-old Buster, can see Andy’s point of view.

“I think any parent would be worried, and Debbie knows that. She understands what Andy’s saying , but she’s putting up barriers - she doesn’t want to show any weaknesses in front of him.”

And, blinded by love, Debbie intends to keep Pete by her side, even if he’s harming her custody battle.

“She knows there is more of a chance that Andy could take the kids if Pete is living with them,” adds Charley, “but she’d rather they faced things as a team than handle it on her own.

“She wants Pete by her side throughout this battle. As fas as she’s concerned they’ll be stronger if they stick together against everybody else.”

Emmerdale’s Charley Webb tells Soaplife how and why Debbie plans to get Charity arrested to save Pete…

Debbie Dingle has been good to her mum. She even sacrificed her relationship with Pete to stop Declan finding out that Charity aborted his child. But now all of her mum’s lies have been exposed, Debbie puts Pete first… The police offer him freedom in exchange for Charity’s confession and Debbie is determined to sacrifice Charity this time. “Debbie’s so sick to death of Charity using her,” Charley tells Soaplife. Will Debbie live to regret shopping her mum?

How does Debbie react when Pete (Anthony Quinlan) is arrested for manslaughter?

“It’s a big shock, but Pete’s always looked after her and she thinks it’s right to stand by him. She thinks they’ll be stronger as a team. It’s them against everybody else.”

Even though Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) is now going for custody of the kids?

“That’s the moment that tips her over the edge. She finally reaches breaking point and turns on her mother.”

But Andy has a change of heart over custody… Why?

“Debbie tells him he needs to get the farm ready, that it could be dangerous for Sarah because of everything she’s been through. He sees there’s a lot going on and that Debbie is a little fragile.”

Does Debbie understand why Andy didn’t want Pete around the kids?

“Absolutely. It would be the same for any parent. He doesn’t know Pete that well and, for all he knows, he could be selling drugs in the house with the kids there. Debbie puts up barriers because she doesn’t want to show any weakness, but there are moments when you see that she does understand what Andy is saying.”

Then DI Bails comes up with a suggestion…

“He tells Pete that if he can get a full confession from Charity [Emma Atkins] about the fire and the fraud he’ll drop all the charges against him. Debbie’s shocked and doesn’t say anything at first. Once she’s slept on it, she thinks there must be another way. No part of her immediately thinks they should drop Charity in it.”

What changes Debbie’s mind?

“When she finds out Charity’s been dealing in stolen cars. Charity and Ross [Michael Parr] have been using the farm for their illegal business, which could get Cain into trouble. It’s the last straw for Debbie. She realises she doesn’t owe her any more.”

How will Debbie get Charity to confess?

“Her idea is to record her the same way she did with Cameron, but the police say it won’t be usable. Instead, Debbie suggests she gets it on tape, then they can force her into a confession.”

Is Debbie sure she wants to turn her mum over?

“It’s a big thing and she’s agreed to do it in anger. Maybe when she has time to think about it, she might decide that it is all too much."

Emmerdale’s Charley Webb tells Soaplife that Debbie is running scared as Cameron haunts her - but Pete wants to save her from herself…

Why has Debbie had an alarm fitted at her cottage?

“She’s feeling very tense. It’s a continuation of Cameron, really. She has basically put up a massive front and pretended that everything is fine, but she’s having nightmares about Cameron and not getting much sleep. As usual, she’s not telling anyone, but trying to cope on her own.”

And failing. She hits a customer, doesn’t she?

“She turns up to a call-out and this guy is a bit flirty. It’s nothing major. He says something about admiring the view and goes to touch her and she flips out. Because of the way Debbie is feeling, it tips her over the edge.”

And she puts the guy in hospital and is arrested for assault!

“It’s a massive thing for her to be arrested. It freaks her out and makes her sit up, but she’s having a mini breakdown. When the police come to see her she’s almost a little bit vacant. She’s numb.”

Then Pete pays her victim a visit and, with a little more pain, persuades him to drop the charges. How does Debbie feel?

“At first, she’s really annoyed and can’t believe that he’s got involved, but three seconds later she’s kissing him. She’s impressed by his gesture and she sees he’s someone who’s looking out for her.”

Is Debbie ready for a relationship with Pete?

“I’m not sure she’ll ever be ready to get involved with anyone after what happened with Cameron. I think she has always found it difficult to let people in because of her parents and her upbringing.”

But Pete’s not Cameron…

“She thinks Pete’s a stable guy, a nice guy, not the typical bad boy she normally goes for. She does see a bit of a protector in him. And she does buy him a drink to thank him.”

Ross doesn’t like that… Isn’t Ross more her type?

“He would be the obvious choice because he’s more similar to Cain and people she has gone for in the past. Debbie thinks she wants a nice quiet life for her kids, but she finds it hard to resist a bit of drama.”

How do you get on with Anthony Quinlan, who plays Pete?

“I’ve known him for years because he’s best friends with my brother, Jamie Lomas [EastEnders’ Jake]. Anthony is like part of the furniture in our house and I bicker with him like I do with my brother, so it feels very natural to work with him.”

Charley Webb has admitted she struggled with the underwater training for Emmerdale's explosive hostage scenes.

This week, viewers will see serial killer Cameron Murray (Dominic Power) take the locals hostage in The Woolpack during some of the worst weather the village has seen, flooding the cellar of the pub. Many of the scenes were filmed in Pinewood Studios where the stars were trained by an underwater stunts expert.

Charley, who plays Debbie Dingle, confessed: "I really struggled with my training. I literally could not do it, and Lucy [who plays Chas Dingle] went through so much of it with me and I still couldn't do it.

"I was thinking I'm not going to be able to do it, it's going to be awful, I'm going to have to get the stunt people to do it for me - which would've been awful because I wanted to do it myself.

"We got there on the day, first day passed, second day, third day and I'd still not had to use this diving training I'd had. By the end of the week I still hadn't used it so all those sleepless nights were pointless because all I needed to do was hold my breath!"

But co-star Wil Johnson said that despite the tiring, long hours the cast and crew put in for the dramatic scenes, nobody complained.

Wil, who plays Dom Andrews, filmed alongside his Emmerdale co-stars for three days in the driving rain, and spent 22 days filming four episodes, as well as being involved in long night shoots.

But he explained: "There's no point [complaining] because you're working with something that's real and visceral so it just adds to your acting. It just makes it more intense, it makes it more immediate.

"When the rain machine switches on - and it's a more intense rain because it's got to read on camera - you really are being lashed. So that gives you something to work against, and it is cold, it's freezing cold at night, and then you've got cold water on top of you, so you're actually battling against real elements.

"It's not 'Let's act cold, I AM cold!' - and that adds to it."

Charley Webb tells Soaplife that Debbie is stunned when Cameron proposes in Emmerdale - and no wonder… Debbie's planning a future that will see Cameron in prison!

So Debbie's not keen to marry a murderer?

"She feels sick when Cameron proposes! She's really struggling inside but she knows she has to act as if everything is normal. There would have been a time when she'd be thrilled about his proposal, but Cameron's not the person she thought he was."

Does she still love him?

"Yes, but she hates him, too. She feels heartbroken, betrayed and angry, but massively torn. She knows he has to go to prison, though. She's in shock but has to do the right thing."

And that means recording Cameron's confession for the police…

"Her house is wired up with microphones and cameras and the police are watching and listening to everything. Debbie has to get Cameron to talk…"

Does Cameron notice Debbie's behaving strangely?

"He thinks something's odd, but not for long - he even suggests going upstairs. Although she doesn't actually want to be anywhere near him, Debbie knows she has to keep him close and act as if everything is normal. That means she has to carry on sleeping with him."

And Cameron does confess to Carl’s murder again…

"Yes, but he does it when they're in The Woolpack, where there isn't any recording equipment!"

No! So is there a Plan B?

"Debbie asks the police if she can wear a wire so that she doesn't miss another confession and they agree, giving her a code word to shout if she needs them…"

And..?

"She gets the confession but Cameron sees the wire and takes Debbie hostage. She's terrified because she's trapped with a killer… And Cameron warns that if the police take one step closer, he will kill Debbie…"

Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter reveals to Soaplife that when Gennie's recorder finally gives up its secrets, Chas wastes no time in telling Debbie that Cameron must pay for his crimes…

So how does Chas find out the whole awful truth?

"Debbie shows her the recorder and says there's proof on it that Gennie was still alive after the crash, but Chas doesn't instantly think Cameron killed her."

What changes her mind?

"Debbie tells her that Cameron killed Carl and that they were chasing Gennie when she crashed."

Wow! That'll do it. How does Chas react?

"She's angry with Debbie. There's a lot to forgive because Debbie didn't have to get in that car and chase Gennie. She knew Cameron was a murderer and yet she did nothing about it. Chas also thinks that Debbie has known about Carl for a long time and could have put her out of her misery sooner."

What does Chas do?

"She tells Debbie they're going straight to the police."

To play them the recorder?

"Yes, but Debbie's deleted Cameron's confession, so the police decide to bug her house and Debbie has to get him to confess again."

That sounds dangerous…

"Chas doesn't care if Debbie's in danger. She wants Cameron caught. Debbie's scared, though… for herself and for Jack and Sarah…"

Has Gennie become killer Cameron’s latest victim?

Debbie and Cameron are going to talk to Chas - but not to share Cameron's confession. That will be for Gennie to do - if she can get away. She gets out of Debbie's house but Cameron and Debbie see her and realise she knows too much. New driver Gennie runs for her new car, with Debbie and Cameron hot on her heels. She races out of the village and Cameron and Debbie race after her. Panicking, Gennie loses control of her car and swerves off the road and down a hill. At the bottom, Gennie lies motionless and Cameron looks at her. Is she dead? At the top of the hill, Debbie desperately rings for an ambulance…

Nikhil is desperate to find Gennie. She’s supposed to be with him, celebrating buying the B&B and, instead, he's sitting on his own with a happy Val and Eric, worried about where Gennie could be. But Nikhil's worries have only just begun…

Sean's worried about the trouble his lie has caused. Kerry didn't steal the charity money but Dan believes she did because Sean says so. That’s the end of Dan and Kerry then. Sean can’t have that on his conscience, though, and tells Dan the truth - about the money and about how it was Kerry who decked Robbie, not Sean.

Gennie has suspected Cameron of being a wrong 'un for a long time but she's had no idea just how dangerous Cameron is… until now. Gennie gets into Debbie's house, planning to leave a Dictaphone so she can hear what Cameron and Debbie say to each other. And she hears them all right… faster than she expected. Debbie and Cameron come in, trapping Gennie upstairs - and she hears them talking. Then she hears Cameron make a confession to Debbie, a shocking confession that scares the life out of Debbie - and leaves Gennie terrified…

Kerry would scare the life out of most men, but not Dan and definitely not while she's wearing a cheerleading costume for the charity table football competition and shaking her pom-poms at him. But Dan is totally put off when Kerry spills the charity bucket - and he can barely look at her when Sean accuses her of stealing the money that has been collected.

Rhona begs Vanessa for some drugs but Vanessa is determined to make Rhona stick to the dose Vanessa thinks she should have. Rhona will do anything to keep Vanessa happy - and close by - so she goes with her to see Moira. This is Moira, remember, who knows all about Vanessa's 'friend' with the drug problem…

Awkward! Chas gives Debbie a big smile when she sees her in the village while she's out with Cameron - but Chas is hiding her suspicions. Gennie has told her there's something going on between Debbie and Cameron and Chas wants to know what… But Cameron's giving nothing away and neither is Debbie… not to Chas, anyway. When Cameron gets Debbie alone, though, she has plenty to say to him – and he's shocked by what he hears.

Gennie hasn't heard - or seen - enough yet to totally convince Chas that Cameron's doing the dirty on her. Nikhil thinks she's becoming obsessed and asks her to focus her energies on buying the B&B with him. But Gennie can't… She needs to find out what's going on with Cameron and Debbie behind closed doors - and she's pretty sure she can do that by planting a recording device in Debbie's house…

Dan and Kerry have planted the idea of a charity table football competition to raise money for Brenda's hospital - and people like it. Now the less-than-organised couple have got to organise it, though… That means Kerry's going to have to stay sober for long periods of time. Or Dan's going to have to do all the work.

Emmerdale actress Charley Webb reveals to TV Times magazine how dastardly Debbie Dingle and her never-ending dramas have taken their toll…

Next week sees Debbie cavorting with Cameron - the killer who broke her heart!

"She loves him. Her feelings haven’t changed and every time she sees him, it is a big smack in the face. It’s interesting to play because I can see why she is behaving like this."

Has it been tough filming Debbie's descent into darkness?

"It’s good to keep the layers. Someone who is a full-on bitch is boring and that’s not Debbie. But there is no other job out there that could challenge me like these storylines have and I love that, but you have to throw yourself into the job 100 per cent and after a heavy day at work, I am so tired, I am like a robot."

Are you going to be particularly busy with Debbie's storylines this year?

"There is no kind of gap in sight, but I am sure there is a light at the end of the tunnel somewhere. Viewers are enjoying Debbie’s story and that’s what counts."

You joined Emmerdale when you were 14. Have you found it tough growing up on one of the country's biggest shows?

"I’ve learned a lot from Jeff Hordley and Emma Atkins who are like my adopted brother and sister. They are all about their work. Sometimes, you can have the wrong people around you, but I’ve been lucky."

You have a three-year-old son with co-star Matthew Wolfenden. Is that a tough job, too?

"I love being a mum, but my heart is with my job. I found it hard being at home with a baby every day. It helps that Matthew is very hands on with Buster."

Were you pleased Emmerdale won at the Soap Awards?

"I was so pleased that we won Best Episode [for October’s 40th anniversary live episode]...  Matthew didn’t mind losing out to Danny Mac for sexiest male – it is just a bit of fun and he’s not vain!"

Have you and Matthew considered tying the knot?

"I am so busy, it is the last thing on my mind. I would want a small little ceremony – the idea of walking down the aisle with everyone looking at me makes me want to be sick."

Charley Webb reveals to Soaplife how Debbie realises she has pushed her luck too far when her dodgy booze leaves Belle fighting for her life in Emmerdale!

How does Belle get hold of Debbie's vodka?

"Debbie’s stored it at the Dingles’ and is moving it when Belle appears. Debbie tells her to get lost, but later she finds Belle drunk. Debbie tells Belle to go back to her place and she’ll help her sober up, but when Debbie gets home she finds Belle unconscious and lying in a pool of vomit."

Frightening! How does Debbie react?

"Debbie goes into a panic. She sends Sarah to get help and she brings Cameron back. Belle’s rushed to hospital. It’s serious – Belle ends up on a ventilator and the doctors warn that she could have brain damage..."

And then the family finds out it was Debbie's booze that did this to Belle…

"Charity works it out and she and Cain are furious. Debbie feels so bad she confesses it is all her fault. As far as the Dingles are concerned, Debbie is not part of the family any more. She is now totally on her own. She’s at absolute rock bottom."

And Robbie makes things worse!

"He tells Zak, Cain and Diane that Debbie mixed the vodka herself and made it lethal so she could make more money. It’s not true, but nobody believes her."

Including Andy, who takes the kids!

"Debbie goes to collect Sarah and Jack from Andy’s and he shuts the door on her and keeps the kids at his place. Then she sees Robbie smirking and, in that moment, she wants to kill him."

Cameron seems to be the only person who cares… Would Debbie go back to him?

"She’s still so in love with him I don’t think she would be able to stop herself. Her feelings for him haven’t changed..."

Lucy Pargeter reveals to Soaplife how Chas finds herself at gun-toting Debbie's mercy in Emmerdale…and Debbie's not feeling merciful!

Does Chas still feel guilty about taking Cameron from Debbie?

"She feels guilty about how it affected Debbie and Sarah and the family in general. But I think the guilt about her and Cameron being together has gone; they’re quite a solid couple. She’s getting to the stage where she’s thinking enough is enough."

And then, suddenly, Debbie wants to make peace...

"She offers Chas a life to Zak and Lisa's house and Chas immediately thinks, ‘Hold on, what’s this about?’ But then she decides that she's willing to give this a go if it means they can start trying to be friends again."

But what it really means is Debbie taking Chas hostage and holding her at gunpoint!

"Chas thinks Debbie has completely lost the plot. But at first she doesn’t think she’ll use the gun. She thinks Debbie is just scaring her. Then Chas realises Debbie is very close to pulling the trigger. She looks into Debbie's eyes and sees she’s completely devoid of any emotion. Debbie’s blank."

Then Cain and Charity find them...

"They turn up but, in Chas’s eyes, things go from bad to worse – although I’m keeping back what actually happens. It does all have to come an end at some point, though - not that I’m saying that this is the absolute end!"

The winters can be harsh in the Yorkshire countryside, but it's not the cold or the snow that has killed Katie's horse, Wilson… it's Vanessa the vet! Well, that's what Katie thinks, anyway - and she's going to make Vanessa pay. Katie returned from holiday to find Wilson clearly unwell and Steve told her he'd called Rhona. But Rhona's bad back has put her out of action so Vanessa stood in for her. The big question is: was Vanessa in a fit state to be working? She had been to her godmother's funeral and was very upset. So, when she got to Home Farm and diagnosed mild colic, was her mind really on the job? Katie says it wasn't and is taking legal action. 

Debbie takes rather harsh action against Cain when he fixes Moira's car for free. Who does he think he is, giving his girlfriend freebies? Well, Debbie tells him who he is: he's her mechanic and if he doesn't do what she says - and that means making Moira pay for his work - then she'll find another mechanic.

Brenda's desperate for Dan to do what she wants, which is keep her brain tumour a secret from Bob. Dan finds out accidentally about Brenda's illness and feels he has to do what Brenda wants, although he thinks that what she should do is tell Bob.

What’s made Debbie so hard so suddenly?

"Everything that's happened. Her daughter nearly died, then Chas and Cameron shafted her. All that heartache has made her decide to toughen up and now she just wants to focus on making lots of money and taking care of her kids."

But Dom doesn't think she's tough enough to deal with pill-pusher Pete, does he?

"No. But Pete talks about them making £20,000 a month from drugs and it's all about money for Debbie. It's about making a better life for her kids. She doesn't really know what she's doing, though. She's gone a bit AWOL in her head."

Cain tries to warn Pete off, but he fails. That's how tough Pete is! And he sends his own warning - flowers to Sarah...

"Debbie's furious with Cain for beating up Pete and jeopardising her money. As for the flowers, she's just angry about that. She isn't frightened of Pete - she's probably more frightened about what she might have to do to put an end to it."

And what Debbie does do is a secret. Any clues?

"Well, she arranges to meet Pete on a deserted country road. He wants her to get in his car but she refuses. She's very strong minded and isn't scared. It's going to be quite an episode!"

Isn't she even worried about what will happen to Sarah and baby Jack if she ends up in jail?

"She doesn't think that'll happen for a second. She thinks she'll get away with it. Debbie's certainly not to be messed with at the moment."
