A sneak peek at tonight's Corrie episode shows Eileen wrestling with her conscience over what to do with the £5,000 she has discovered in Phelan's secret stash.

Eileen Grimshaw wrestles with her conscience on tonight’s Corrie after discovering late husband Pat Phelan’s secret stash of money.

In a preview clip from the episode, which airs tonight, Eileen confides in friends Liz and Sean about the £5,000 left behind by Phelan before he died.

After Liz suggests the money could be "blood money", Eileen declares: "Liz is right, I can't keep it, I'll give it away," and pledges to give it to charity.

However, later in the episode, Liz and Sean suggest she needs a holiday, and convince her to spend the money on a break. Eileen is faced with a tough decision, but will she make the right one?

Phelan was finally killed off in June after being fatally stabbed by Anna Windass. Tonight's episode leaves Eileen wondering what to do for the best as she gets over a difficult year.

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver assesses the chances of Eileen getting married to villain Pat Phelan. She may count her lucky stars if it doesn't happen!

Eileen’s been on the cobbles for nearly 17 years – are you surprised it’s taken her this long to get a wedding? "Seventeen years, that’s madness! The thing is that getting married wasn’t high on Eileen’s list of wants in life. She’s always maintained that with any fella she’s been with, she’d never be seen walking down the street with him, never mind walking down the aisle. But how could she turn Phelan down, he’s amazing!"

Does she have any idea of his dark side? "If you think about it, Eileen has never seen Phelan do or say anything bad. He’s never been anything but glorious to her, he’s given her more attention than any man has ever given her, and been very supportive of her. I think the thing with Phelan is he does love Eileen – but unfortunately, he happens to be a psychopath as well!"

There have been some big Corrie weddings over the years – what can you tell us about Eileen’s big day? "To be fair, it’s a real non event! But it was heaven for me – three scenes in a registry office and all done on a Monday afternoon. There’s Todd, Billy the vicar, Eileen… and whether Phelan turns up, we’ll have to see."

And what is Eileen’s dress like? "She’s a lady of a certain age, and being Eileen, it has to be something she can get her use out of – so it will probably be seen at Christmas parties, funerals, and someone else’s wedding. It was very much left to me to choose what felt right for her. I didn’t want it to be anything too 'weddingy' so it’s just a purple and black dress that she can wear again and again."

Eileen has had a lot of boyfriends in her time. Are there any whom you believe could’ve made a good husband? "She got engaged to Paul (Tony Hirst). He was a decent man and the one that got away, but she couldn’t cope with him being a fireman. And maybe the chap she met on the internet, Adrian (Mark Moraghan) could’ve been a stayer, if Todd hadn’t messed that up for her. He may live to regret that!"

When you’re out in public, do you get viewers warning you to ditch Phelan? "Constantly! They say 'Eileen get rid of him, what are you doing with him, why can’t you see what he’s like?' I say 'Do you really want me to get rid of him, because what kind of story would that be?'"

What’s it like working with Conor McIntyre, who plays Phelan? "He’s an intense actor, but he’s an absolute softy, in fact I call him my Connykins! He’s a lovely man – very warm and very generous, and I really enjoy working with him."

If Eileen discovers Phelan’s crimes and misdemeanours, do you think she could ever forgive him? "Eileen’s a very moral person, she’s got a very strong sense of what’s right and wrong. I think if she knew what he was really like, there’s no way she would be with him."

Do you think she might blame herself for being hoodwinked? "Absolutely, because she’s not a stupid woman. She’d be horrified. That would really rock her world and it would rock her confidence. I think it would have huge ramifications."

Until now Eileen Grimshaw has been completely taken in by lover Pat Phelan’s porkies about the luxury apartments he’s building.

But she begins to smell a flat-shaped rat when the nasty-piece-of-work that is Vinny gets right up her nose, actress Coronation Street Sue Cleaver tells Soaplife…

What starts alarm bells ringing for Eileen? “Alarm bells ring when Rita tells her she’s signed a contract for one of the flats which Vinny then makes out is still for sale – Eileen thinks Rita is being used by Vinny and getting caught up in something that’s not quite right, and so Eileen wants answers.”

How do Phelan and Vinnie explain things when Eileen questions them about Rita’s flat? “They say that it is just the way business is done. She is out of her depth so she has no choice but to believe them. She totally accepts it.”

Oh no! “Oh yes! She’s had her head completely turned by Phelan on a romantic level and now he’s made her feel like she’s part of his business empire. She resigns from Street Cars because she’s running away with the fantasy that she’s now a very successful, high-powered business partner. She feels relevant for the first time ever.”

Vinny has a go at her about buying some expensive tiles – what does she make of that? “She is a little unsure about him and his attitude towards people, but she believes Phelan can handle him. He tells her that you don’t have to like people to be in business with them. She has no idea that she is such a thorn in Vinny’s side though, why would she?”

So she has not the faintest inkling that the property development might be dodgy? “No she really does think that this is a genuine business deal and she is thrilled she is a part of it. She does know only too well that Todd has reservations about Phelan, but she doesn’t think Todd has any right to question her choice in men. Billy also tells her to be wary, but she doesn’t take any notice of him, either.”

How bad will it get for Eileen? “It isn’t going to end well, is it? I believe that there is some way to go with this storyline and that we should probably fear for Eileen. I certainly get lots of people coming up to me and warning me off!”

Scheming Pat Phelan has made Anna's life a misery since he returned to Coronation Street.

And this week, the twisted builder spreads more lies about his past relationship with Anna in order to schmooze his way into the affections of Eileen Grimshaw.

Will Eileen fall for Phelan's lies and become another one of his victims?

Flattered by the attention she's been getting from Phelan, Eileen enjoys an intimate lunch with him in the bistro.

Anna's horrified when she walks into the pub and sees Eileen and Phelan together.

Phelan's told Eileen that Anna's bad attitude towards him is because they had an affair and Anna's never got over being dumped!

When Anna's ex Kevin hears about the supposed fling, he wants answers…

Despite being warned about Phelan's lies by Anna and Izzy Armstrong, Eileen's refuses to believe he's bad news.

And, after a couple of drinks in the Rovers, Eileen invites Phelan back to No.11, where they share a passionate kiss… But how much further will they go?

Before we get into the Phelan thing, why has Eileen dumped Michael?

“He backed her into a corner by keeping on and on about her and Phelan [Connor McIntyre]. Eileen had enough. She couldn’t be doing with the silly, jealous man any more.”

Maybe Michael had a point, though!

“Not so far as Eileen’s concerned! She genuinely hadn’t viewed Phelan as any more than a friend until he confessed his feelings for her. She certainly wasn’t looking for anything like that. But she likes him and she trusts him, so she’s more than happy to go when he asks her on a date.”

And sleep with him!

“Everything Phelan’s told her about his past seems completely legit and he’s been nothing but a gentleman to her, so she believes everything he says. Why wouldn’t she? He seems honest about Anna [Debbie Rush], too. He tells Eileen he had an affair with Anna and his version of events makes perfect sense to her.”

So she doesn’t believe a word Anna says about him?

“Well, one minute she says Phelan raped her, the next minute she says she slept with him so he wouldn’t tell on her. So Eileen thinks, ‘Make up your mind!’ She doesn’t believe her at all.”

What about when Izzy backs up Anna?

“Izzy [Cherylee Houston] is bound to come and warn her off because of her relationship with Anna, so Eileen’s just not buying it.”

And how does Jason feel about his mum’s new bloke?

“He’s quite surprised at his mother’s swift work! She asks him if he’s all right with it and Jason [Ryan Thomas] says he will be as long as she tells Michael [Les Dennis].”

And if Eileen finds out the truth about Phelan?

“She’ll be devastated and mortified. Eileen’s always been a pretty good judge of character. She’s always known if something’s not right, but she’s been completely taken in this time.”

Gail comes to blows with Eileen when she finds out about that kiss on Coronation Street, Helen Worth reveals to Soaplife...

Michael’s wanted nothing to do with Gail since he discovered she already knew about Andy masquerading as Gavin. But she’s full of hope when Michael, newly discharged from hospital, turns up on her doorstep wanting to talk.

“Gail begs him for forgiveness, vows there’ll be no more secrets between them and swears she will only ever be honest with him,” says Helen. “So Michael reckons if they’re being honest, now’s the time to tell her he kissed Eileen…”

Does Gail completely lose it?

“It hits her like a tonne of bricks and she completely sees red. Gail thinks it’s typical of Eileen [Sue Cleaver], who must have done it to spite her! Gail is proud and feels humiliated – as if Eileen now has one up on her and is laughing behind her back. She doesn’t even stop to think that there were two of them involved - Michael [Les Dennis] as well as Eileen.”

How do Gail and Eileen end up fighting?

“Gail’s like a woman possessed and goes looking for Eileen, who’s at the salon. Gail begins to throw things at Eileen and they end up taking it out on to the Street.”

How does Eileen react?

“Eileen tries to tell Gail it was only a kiss and that Michael isn’t even her type, but this just seems to make Gail even angrier! Nothing Eileen says calms Gail down. In the end they just end up launching insults at one another.”

And Gail ends up insulting Michael, too…

“Gail tells Eileen she was really scraping the barrel when she decided to go for Michael because he’s hardly a catch! Gail then realises Michael has overheard and she’s completely mortified.”

Ooops! What does he say?

“Michael sarcastically tells her it’s good to know where he stands. Gail furiously tries to backpedal, but Michael’s disgusted and heads back into Eileen’s.”

Is there any way back for Gail and Michael?

“She’s happier when Michael decides to leave Eileen’s and ends up staying at Andy [Oliver Farnworth] and Steph’s [Tisha Merry].... If Michael’s forgiven Andy, then maybe he’ll forgive her, too.”

Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver tells Soaplife how Eileen’s passion play might have killed Michael!

Eileen’s used to heartbreak - but one stage-managed by her own son, Todd (Bruno Langley), is a new low for her. “Her real internet boyfriend, Adrian, takes off in disgust when Todd reveals that Eileen has been in contact with another man, Jeff, on the web,” says Sue. “But then the penny drops that Jeff has been invented by Todd…”

And Eileen finds herself seeking comfort from her new lodger, Michael. What with her, Michael and Jason (Ryan Thomas) all under the same roof, the house is like Heartbreak Hotel…

How come Eileen and Michael (Les Dennis) get up close and personal?

“It happens after Gail [Helen Worth] has barged her way into Eileen’s, insisting on waiting for Michael, who’s been to see his ex-wife, Susan. Michael’s furious to find Gail there when he returns and immediately goes to the pub. He gets very drunk and Eileen ends up helping him back to hers. They’re trying to cheer each other up when Michael leans in for a kiss.”

And?

“Eileen responds! They end up snogging on the sofa.”

And Michael gets over-excited…

“He starts struggling for breath and then he collapses on the floor! Eileen starts panicking and then there’s a knock on the door. It’s Gail - she may be Eileen’s nemesis, but Eileen’s kind of relieved to see her. Obviously she doesn’t tell Gail why Michael collapsed.”

What happens next?

“They call an ambulance and Michael’s taken to hospital. He comes round, sees Gail and orders her to leave, which really upsets her. The doctors want to know what Michael was doing before his collapse and Eileen explains that they were getting a bit frisky. There’s a very tricky moment when she realises that Gail may have overheard her, but it turns out she hasn’t.”

Bet Gail finds out at some point, though?

“Well, Eileen won’t tell her! Gail will be furious if she does find out and it will get very, very nasty. They’ve got physical before, remember!”

Is there a future for Eileen and Michael if and when he recovers?

“He’s not really her type. To be honest, after what happened with Adrian [Mark Moraghan] and ‘Jeff’, I think she’ll be off men for a while.”

Will she ever find happiness?

“I hope not. She far more interesting to play when she’s unhappy.”

Coronation Street’s Michael Rodwell could be about to break wife Gail’s heart as well as his own when he collapses after kissing Eileen Grimshaw behind her back.

The newlywed will be reeling from the shock of finding out that his real son Gavin is actually dead and the son he thought he had is an imposter, when he goes round to see Eileen (Sue Cleaver) and commiserate about her own relationship breakdown.

Michael (Les Dennis) and Eileen end up getting amorous over a glass of wine, but the guilt makes his heart condition kick in and soon he's collapsed on the floor.

According to the Radio Times, Sue said: “They’ve always got on really well when working together, but Eileen hasn’t really thought of Michael in that way before. So this has taken her by surprise.

“It seems that the heat of the moment is too much for Michael. Couple that with the stress of the day and he ends up collapsing onto Eileen’s sofa.”

When Eileen’s nemesis Gail (Helen Worth) turns up in search of her husband, she is shocked to see the state he is in – but both Michael and Eileen are determined to keep the kiss a secret.

Sue said: “Eileen has to confide in the doctor what was happening at the time of his collapse, but Michael and Eileen have both agreed not to tell Gail about their kiss.

“So it is very awkward with the two of them at his bedside and Gail asking questions about what exactly happened leading up to his collapse.”

The actress added that it would add another chapter to the saga of Eileen and Gail’s feud: “I think this is almost inevitable. The writers love having them as enemies, so when Gail finds out about Eileen and Michael it will no doubt lead to more arguments and maybe another fight. The fight on the street is the scene that so many people remember, so we have set the bar high.

“It’s great to do those scenes, Helen and I get on really well and have known each other for years, so it’s fun to play the opposite of that. There are some great one-liners, too. I think this feud is going to run and run.”

How did you feel when you found out Eileen was getting a new fella? Did you think ‘Here we go again!’?

“Yes, pretty much! With Eileen and relationships, you know it’s never going to be plain sailing, is it? “

What does she need in a man that she hasn’t found so far?

“That’s a really hard one! He’s got to match her in strength of character and he’s got to be as straight as a die – she can’t be doing with games.”

Do you think she’s looking for Mr Perfect?

“Yes I do actually, because she is quite a perfectionist. And there’s something in her that makes her sabotage everything – it might look like it’s other people doing the sabotaging, but it’s her. She’s not OK being happy.”

What does she like about Adrian?

“Well, she had a lovely time on their first date. He had the same sense of humour, twinkly eyes, and made it very clear that she didn’t have to pretend to be anything that she wasn’t. She could just relax, and she relaxed so much, she had a pudding!”

Have you done your first screen kiss yet?

“I’m doing it later today! But does anyone want to see some 50-plus people snogging on the TV? I think it’s a sport best kept for the 20-somethings. I’ll let you know how it goes!”

Do you always eat mints before you film a kiss?

“It depends how well you know the person. Charles Dale [who played Dennis Stringer], who was here years ago, used to be really naughty. I remember having to snog him – this is disgusting – and he had a pear drop in his mouth, which he transferred into mine. So the next day I ate a load of garlic bread, to get him back!”

Can you see long-term potential with Eileen and Adrian?

“She really likes him, but she’s said she wants to take things slowly. Things are complicated by this mystery man in Dubai, who comes up to Eileen’s ideal of perfection. She’s got one foot in each camp at the moment.”

Tell us about ‘Jeff’. Hasn’t he offered to rub oil into her back?

“Funnily enough, I’ve just done a scene in the Grimshaws’ house and I corpsed halfway through because I had the computer open and I actually read what was on the screen - it said ‘I’ll rub oil into yours if you rub it into mine!

“’Jeff’ is living the dream in Dubai – it’s everything that Eileen has never experienced in her life. Adrian’s there in the flesh and he’s wonderful, but there’s a little pull to that part of the world. She tries to be grounded, but Todd’s saying ‘Don’t shut off the opportunity; you never know what could happen.’ She has no idea that he’s made the whole thing up.”

Is she in danger of losing Adrian if he finds out she’s interested in someone else?

“He’s really clear about what he wants at this stage of his life and yeah, he doesn’t want to get edged into any games – he just wants it straight down the line.”

Would you like Eileen and Adrian to stay together?

“It’s always nice to explore that side of Eileen, as opposed to her juggling life and looking after everybody. But I wonder about the psychology of her. I don’t know whether she would want to be looked after. She’s quite a control freak.

“Being part of a couple certainly wouldn’t alter the trials and tribulations she would face. I think it would be quite hard for her!”

Welcome to Coronation Street! How is it going so far?

“Fantastic! Most actors would love to do Corrie. It is a show I have watched as a kid, so being a fan makes turning up on the first day a strange experience. Walking down the street and going in The Rovers was a bit weird to say the least.”

Give us the lowdown on Adrian…

“He’s a truck driver and an old-fashioned kind of guy. He has been unlucky in love in the past so has decided to try internet dating to get with the programme. I think he is divorced – I would assume so because when you get to my age, 52, you’ve probably been round the block a few times.”

What qualities has he got that Eileen needs?

“She needs a reliable guy who is not going to mess her about; somebody with no skeletons in the cupboard, and he seems to be that way so far. She doesn’t have much luck with men, but I think she brings some of that on herself, to be honest!”

What are his downsides?

“He is quite messy and he goes fell-walking a lot, which is something that Eileen might not take to. He is into the great outdoors, but she tends to only exercise her right arm, generally in The Rovers.”

Was it love at first sight?

“I think so. He was impressed by her profile on the website and, when he met her, he saw that she had a great sense of humour. He is attracted to her wit and charm.”

How do you feel about filming your first kiss?

“I’m not nervous, I am looking forward to it. I haven’t kissed anyone on screen for a few years.”

Have you got any funny kissing stories?

“None that I can repeat to you! To be courteous, I always clean my teeth and come armed with mints. I have worked with Sue for a while now and I know she looks after herself, so I have no worries there. But she’s up for a laugh so I wouldn’t be surprised if she had eaten loads of garlic!”

Does this romance have long-term potential?

“I don’t see why not, but that is up to the storyliners. I think they could make a good couple.” 

Who will wear the trousers?

“Adrian is nobody’s fool, so I think they will be fairly equal. She is feisty and he has that potential too. He is not a mug, so I think they will both hold their own and be equals.”

Has Adrian found the internet dating thing daunting?

“Yeah, he does say to Eileen: ‘I know we met the modern way, but I am an old fashioned guy. I think he has gone on the internet out of necessity as he is fed up with meeting the wrong kind of women. I have never done it myself, so I wouldn’t know where to start and, thankfully, I don’t have to. I still think, what is wrong going out and meeting people, face to face?”

Will Adrian be upset if he finds out about ‘Jeff’?

“I don’t think he would take it lying down. I don’t know if he would stick around either, but who knows? We will have to wait and see what happens. Once Adrian gets into a relationship with Eileen, he doesn’t see anybody else; he makes the commitment to her.

“If it is nothing more than correspondence, he can climb over that one, but if he thought she was double dating, that would be a different story.”

Coronation Street’s Eileen Grimshaw is set for romance once again as Mark Moraghan has joined the cast to play her new love interest.

Mark, known for his roles as Greg Shadwick in Brookside, Owen Davies in Holby City and Dream Team’s Ray Wyatt, will play Adrian, a man Eileen (Sue Cleaver) meets when she tries online dating, according to Digital Spy.

The actor first announced his casting last week, but details of his character have just emerged.

He is said to be sticking around in the ITV soap for at least a few months and began filming last week, with his first scenes due to screen in April.

But as Eileen’s romantic past has a history of ending in tears, things may not be happy ever after for the new couple.

Eileen Grimshaw froze out younger son Todd after his dodgy deals nearly ruined big brother Jason’s business, but could she be thawing towards her former favourite son? "Eileen knows Todd wants to make things up to her, but she’s heard his lies so many times before and she is really wary of his fake promises. But when he invites Eileen to dinner at the Bistro, she finally accepts," Sue tells Soaplife. But then she doesn’t turn up… and Todd finds himself in real danger!

Why does Eileen stand up Todd (Bruno Langley)?

“Well, Jason [Ryan Thomas] reminds her just how Todd and his actions have ruined their family. Jason tells her Todd’s still a game-player and always will be, so she doesn’t meet him for the meal. She is still ashamed of Todd. Eileen’s always prided herself on being a good mum and yet her former ‘golden boy’ has turned out like this.”

But, all alone, Todd’s mugged and beaten…

“And Eileen is absolutely consumed with guilt and horror. She said she would go for the meal and she didn’t turn up. If she had, Todd wouldn’t have been attacked. It’s a mother’s worst nightmare.”

How badly injured is he?

“Todd’s in a terrible state. He has horrific facial injuries and is also extremely angry at what’s happened to him.

How does Eileen feel?

“Her guilt will probably result in her making bad decisions because she feels so guilty. It will be all about Todd and getting him well, but she will want the family to unite again."

Will Todd ever change?

“This could possibly change him, but not necessarily for the better. The scars are on the outside, but the damage on the inside is going to be much worse. Todd could be very resentful and more dangerous now than ever!”

Sue Cleaver reveals to Soaplife that Eileen’s beginning to wonder if her relationship with Paul can survive his race row with Lloyd after he thumps him in Coronation Street…

Does Eileen see Paul hit Lloyd?

"No. Paul’s in the pub when he finds out someone’s reported him to the fire brigade for racism. He’s convinced it was Lloyd so he follows him out of the Rovers, has a go at him and then punches him. Eileen’s furious when she hears about it."

Was it Lloyd who dropped Paul in it at work?

"No. It turns out that Sophie, girlfriend of Lloyd’s daughter Jenna, made the call in a show of support. Eileen’s really angry about this, too, because things had started to settle down between Paul and Lloyd. Now they’ve flared up again."

And Paul’s arrested!

"Yes. The police are called and Paul’s taken to the station."

Will Eileen support Paul now?

"I doubt she’ll have any sympathy. It’s gone past that. She has never believed Paul is racist, she knows it was an ignorant use of racist language, but it’s the way he’s acted afterwards that’s caused the problems. She had persuaded him to be civil to Lloyd, but every time it looked like it was resolved something else happened to make the row carry on. Now Paul’s job is at risk and the police have got involved so there is very little she can say or do."

Is this a new Paul she’s seeing?

"She’s always known he’s stubborn, but she’s not used to the anger and violence coming from him."

Is their wedding still on? 

"It’s still planned, but all this has taken the shine off for Eileen. She can’t focus until it’s sorted. Eileen is not the sort of woman who ever has any real luck, though, so it doesn’t bode well for them!"

Eileen’s so used to everything going wrong in her life that she can’t believe it when things go right. So when she finds out the Toni that Paul’s working so closely with is a woman and not a man, she comes over all green-eyed monster and reckons he’s cheating on her when, in fact, he’s planning to propose. "Anyone who’s been through what Eileen’s been through would find it hard to accept that things are going well," says Sue. Only now they’re not going well. At all…

Why does Eileen get so worked up when she finds out that Paul’s colleague Toni is actually a woman?

"Eileen’s not naturally a jealous person, but she’s so shocked when she learns Toni is a woman that something snaps inside her. She feels this irrational jealousy, especially as it’s Toni who’s organising the Full Monty charity night Paul’s involved with."

What makes Eileen think Paul’s cheating?

"She thinks Paul’s deliberately kept Toni’s gender a secret from her, when the thought hasn’t even entered his head to mention that Toni is a woman. When Eileen confronts him, he’s totally incredulous at how upset she is, which of course makes her more angry and they end up rowing."

And then she makes things even worse by spying on him at work!

"That’s Julie’s idea - and not one of her better ones. The fire station is deserted when they get there so Julie decides they should sneak in and try to find a picture of Toni. Paul returns and catches them and he’s furious. He can’t believe Eileen’s spying on him."

And that's not the end of it… She accuses him of lying to her!

"Eileen finds out that Paul’s not at work when he said he was going to be and she convinces herself that he’s lying to her because he’s hiding something from her and she tackles him about it."

And Paul tells her he was planning a romantic proposal and Toni was helping him to choose an engagement ring! Now how does Eileen feel?

"She’s gutted that she’s ruined it. Eileen realises just how stupid she’s been and that in trying to keep hold of Paul she’s now on the brink of losing him. She desperately tries to backtrack, but Paul’s really hurt by her accusations and walks out. She really feels that she’s blown it and she doesn’t see how she can make him realise how sorry she is."
