EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Quirke on running the London Marathon for his mum Pauline Quirke

There has been a public outpouring of love and support ever since Pauline Quirke’s family announced in January last year that the much-loved actor, best known for her roles in Birds of a Feather, Emmerdale and Broadchurch, has been living with dementia.

Now her 31-year-old son, Charlie Quirke, who starred opposite his mum in Birds of a Feather, has decided to raise both awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK by running the London Marathon on Sunday 26 April 2026 in honour of his beloved mum. But he won’t be taking on the emotional challenge alone...

Friends and loved ones, including his girlfriend Chloe, Gavin & Stacey’s Andrew Knott and Jamestown’s Luke Roskell, will be running alongside him as part of Team Quirke, hoping to complete the 26.2-mile course through the capital for dementia research.

Here, in an exclusive interview, Charlie talks about his brutal training regime and why he’ll be carrying a photo of his mum across the finish line…

What made you want to take on such an epic challenge?

"It’s funny, I actually hate running! But since we went public with my mum’s dementia diagnosis last year, the family have become ambassadors for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Mum has always been such a selfless, charitable person, so I reluctantly agreed to run as part of a team with some of my loved ones, who all love my mum, too.'

So, who’s joining you in Team Quirke in honour of your mum?

"My fiancée Chloe, my lifelong friends Cey and James, and Andy Knott, who lives at the bottom of my mum and dad’s road and is a great role model to me. Then there’s Luke Roskell, who worked with my mum on Emmerdale, and Adam Long (Happy Valley) and Jack O’Connell (Skins), who are also close mates. I’m looking forward to being with them all on the start line. That’s when it’s really going to hit me!"

How is training going so far?

"I’m living in a constant state of aches and pains! It’s a bit masochistic, especially as I did a 153km walk in December for Alzheimer’s Research UK too! But it’s kind of become part of my life, what with all the gear and the gels and the tape in weird places. It’s so time consuming and I’ve moaned a lot – I do like a moan, though!"

And have you set yourself a time?

"I’m quite goal driven, so I’d love to do sub four hours. But I’m not going to cry if I don’t achieve that. Although I’ll be crying no matter what! I cry all the time at the moment, especially with all the donations coming in. People are putting in whatever they can afford and that’s quite emotional. Even Andy Knott’s daughter, who’s only 17, put £20 in. I’m sure she’d rather have spent that money on make-up or something. The fact that people care has really hit home."

Has the outpouring of love for your mum spurred you on?

"It has. But it’s been way more than we ever expected. I get daily messages from people saying how much they adore her. Doing the marathon will be hard, but it’s paid me back tenfold already, not just financially for the charity, but also in terms of feeling the love out there for Mum. People are also sharing their own experiences of dementia and that’s really important to us as a family."

As well as starring in shows like Birds of a Feather and Emmerdale, your mum supported several charities. Do you feel like you’re carrying on her legacy?

"Yeah, I do. When Mum got her MBE in 2022 it wasn’t just for services to entertainment, it was for her charitable actions, too. If I can raise awareness and funding and help other families then maybe that’s the light that comes from it all. And if Mum could come and watch me run I know she would. She came to all my football games as a kid. She was always there with the tea urn, making bacon rolls and handing out jelly babies. If she could be involved in the marathon that’s exactly what she’d be doing!"

Finally, have you got a plan for getting through the pain barrier on marathon day?

"Hopefully I’ll get a boost from the crowd – and I’ll be looking forward to a pint or two at the end. But apart from that and all my gels and energy bombs, at the end of the day I’m running the marathon for my mum, so I’m going to carry a little photo of her as well. That’s going to get me across the finish line."

So as far as Sarah's aware, her gran Charity is carrying a baby for her and Jacob.

The wannabe mum, who's had a hysterectomy, is thrilled that she and her fiancé Jacob are set to become parents, thanks to Charity becoming their surrogate.

But what Sarah and Charity's husband Mack don't know is that Charity has had a regrettable one-night stand with Ross Barton and is horribly worried that it's his baby she's carrying.

Determined to keep up appearances and squash the toxic secret, Charity's carrying on the pretence, desperate not to let a shred of her panic show.

As Sarah's giddy excitement bubbles up, Mack picks up on Charity's strange response.

When they're alone, he asks his wife why she's trying to curb Sarah's enthusiasm given that she's about to give her granddaughter everything she's wanted.

Pressing further, Mack questions whether Charity has a reason to dampen Sarah's fizzy feelings.

It's horribly close to the bone for guilt-ridden Charity who swiftly changes the subject.

Elsewhere, April is in enormous amounts of trouble in the wake of Leo being rushed to hospital.

Having lied to Mike, who's in court for his evil catfishing crimes, Vinny's got to bite the bullet and tell the truth.

He's sworn to himself that he'll give a full account of what happened when Mike lured him into his web only to attack him and blackmail him not long after.

At the heart of the issue is Vinny's secret sexual confusion which has haunted him for months now.

He hasn't wanted Gabby, his now wife, to know that in a heated moment, he tried to kiss his best mate Kammy and has been left questioning his sexuality ever since.

If Vinny tells the truth, explaining that Mike pretended to understand his plight, his secret is out there.

In the witness box, Vinny takes a deep breath and is about to recount his most intimate secret when Gabby walks in.

Though she's harbouring a secret indiscretion of her own, she's grown suspicious about why Vinny's been so jittery and weird lately.

April Windsor's life is about to plummet into a hellish reality.

With her now in Ray's grasp, she's unable to say no when he insists she heads out to do a drugs deal even though she's babysitting her brother Leo.

As she leaves the house, oblivious April drops a shady pill. Leo then swallows it and when April returns home, to her horror, her brother's being lifted into the back of an ambulance…

At the hospital, the problem escalates as the police and social services become involved.

Happy times at Dale View are about to get overshadowed by evil Mike.

Newlyweds Gabby and Vinny are having a summit with Mandy and Kim about Thomas' adoption.

Kim's worried that it will erase Thomas' biological dad, Jamie, further from the little boy's life.

But Vinny and Mandy are able to convince her otherwise and before long, happy toasts are being made about the blended family.

However, Vinny's high comes crashing down when Mike slithers into the village, demanding money to keep quiet about his secret.

Desperate not to ruin his set up and upset Gabby – who has no idea Vinny's been questioning his sexuality which then led him into the path of homophobic Mike – the Dingle tells Mike he'll trash the case if he keeps Gabby out of it.

Having found out that his girlfriend April's now a bonafide drug dealer, Dylan is horrified and wants to put a stop to it.

But when he meets drug-boss Ray to make his case, Dylan ends up being manipulated further.

When Dylan begs him to let April off the hook and to cut her out of any dealing from now on, faux-friend Ray trots out another tall tale, promising to face the wrath of the scary 'big bosses' himself on their behalf.

With court case about homophobic catfish Mike looming, Vinny panics when his solicitor calls in and informs him that the defence plan to call Gabby as a witness.

Things come to a head for Liam Cavanagh who's been trying to ignore his bladder issue.

Claudette's been on at her GP boss to address his health problem but so far has been met with excuse after excuse.

But when fellow GP Manpreet catches her colleague taking a leak in his consulting room sink, Liam's problem is brought into sharp focus.

Realising something must be seriously wrong for Liam to have to do such a thing, Manpreet forces the mortified doctor to get it addressed.

With an appointment booked, Liam then has to raise the matter with his girlfriend Chas who's had breast cancer and lost her mum to the disease.

It's one thing after another for Chas who's got a lot going on right now.

Though Chas hasn't a clue that Charity might be carrying Ross' kid rather than Sarah and Jacob's – one thing she does now know is that something is going on between the pair.

Later, Dylan's stunned when the dealer surprises him with a super generous gift not twigging that Ray's just locking him in.

April's taken aback when she runs into her druggy boss in the Hide where he charms his way round giddy Laurel.

When Ray tells April that their debt is still huge, she's unable to say no when he suggests there's a faster way they can clear it.

There's a ton of stuff going on in Charity's world right now. She's stressed to the max about what's gone on and on top of that she's got a pregnancy secret growing inside her.

As she tries to keep up appearances, masking her fears, Ross isn't bothered about what she's going through, he just wants to know if she's carrying his kid.

Though Charity's trying to convince herself that the surrogacy has worked and that she's carrying her granddaughter Sarah's baby, she knows there's a huge possibility her drunken night with Ross has landed her carrying another of his kids.

Emmerdale spoilers: Druggy Ray ruins Dylan all over again

Emmerdale's Dylan just can't escape Ray in Monday's episode (ITV, 7.30pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

Ray's hold on Dylan and April just gets tighter and tighter. He's got them doing whatever he pleases, whenever he pleases unaware that the debt they're in to the druglord is nothing but a ruse of his own making.

April's recent frank, and fierce chat with the dealer just seems to have tightened the confusing bond thanks to manipulative Ray's mind games.

When the teenager apologises to Ray for all she said, his ears prick up as she reveals Dylan's been hired at the Depot.

No sooner as Dylan put on his high-vis than Ray's there, prowling.

Given that Caleb's business is a delivery service, Ray realises this could work really well for him. Dylan's heart sinks when he twigs that Ray is about to pollute his new start with his druggy demands.

At the cafe, April runs into Ross and clearly wants to offload. But Ross is super distracted by his phone and is only half listening to the troubled teen who suggests she's in trouble with someone but doesn't reveal that it's way more than just a spat with a mate.

Over at the surgery, Claudette is determined to get Liam checked out.

Having found him taking a pee at the allotments, she went on to learn that the GP is constantly getting caught short and wants her boss to address the issue.

Insisting that it's way too busy at work to take time out, Liam tells Claudette to cancel it.

Though Dylan thinks Ray has thrown him a lifeline, April isn't as taken in by the manipulative drug dealer.

With her latest drug drop having gone wrong – thanks to PC Swirling who recognised April and took her home, ruining the plan entirely – Ray wants to talk.

April's furious to know that her abilities are being questioned by Ray, unaware that this is all just another tactic of his to maintain control of the teenage couple.

Summoned to a carpark, April stands up to Ray wanting to know when their debt (again, another shady control ploy of Ray's) will be wiped out.

When the dealer heads off in his car taking April with him, worried Dylan is left wondering if his girlfriend is in danger…

Emmerdale spoilers: Mack's underground bunker prison horror continues…

Emmerdale's Mack is in living hell in Thursday's episode (ITV, 7.30pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

The horror continues for Mack who's still stuck inside the bomb shelter where John's had him stashed for weeks. Attempts to escape have failed.

He's weak, his wounds are infected, he's out of hope and as his state of mind and his health plummets, he injects himself with a syringe his psycho killer captor John left for him.

As Mack starts hallucinating, he's haunted by visions of his wife Charity… Will he ever see his loved ones again?

April's due to do a drug drop for dodgy Ray but the plan falls apart when Pc Swirling happens to spot her.

Though the policeman doesn't twig that anything is untoward, he offers to take April home and she's powerless to say otherwise.

So when Gabby summons guilt-ridden Vinny to the salon to talk, he panics. Does she now know he tried to kiss Kammy? Or is Gabby about to drop a bombshell of her own?

Emmerdale's Robert is accused of pushing John and Aaron off the cliff in Thursday's episode (ITV, 7.30pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

As the clifftop plunge horror continues, Robert is in the firing line.

Having investigated the crime and heard testimonies from the likes of Chas – who is convinced Robert's jealousy has pushed him to commit the heinous crime – John's questioned.

Will the detectives listen as he tells them all he knows about John? Or has John's scheming paid off and landed his brother in the frame? Is Robert headed back inside for another lengthy stretch?

Though Kammy's been bitterly betrayed by Vinny, he's not stopped worrying about his best mate.

Putting the fact that Vinny lied and told Gabby that Kammy beat him up to one side, Kammy seeks out the Dingle.

Determined to find out what's going on, Kammy urges him to talk, aware that Vinny's been funny with him ever since he awkwardly tried to kiss him.

Unable to keep it all in any longer, sexually-confused Vinny breaks down in tears.

Slowly, Vinny gets talking, finally opening up about his torment which bought him into contact with violent homophobic catfish Mike.

Kammy reels as Vinny tells him about Mike's deception. He can't believe that someone would go so low as to pretend he's gay only to turn the situation on its head, beat Vinny to a pulp and then threaten to tell Gabby that her fiancé is gay.

Continuing on from Monday's clifftop horror, Robert gingerly peers over the edge, praying that his beloved Aaron has survived.

But it seems as if John's crazed leap from the edge has had the desired effect. Both he and Aaron are lying lifeless on the ground.

Dialling 999, Robert summons the emergency services and tells them what he's witnessed.

But when the traumatised Sugden returns to the village, he's met with hate. Aaron's mum Chas doesn't believe a word of his 'story' and instead is convinced Robert pushed the couple in a jealous rage.

Charity tries to hide her panic when Jacob reveals he's booked an early scan for the surrogate gran and his excited fiancée Sarah.

Secretly worried that she's carrying Ross' baby rather than Sarah and Jacob's, Charity is terrified about what the sonogram could reveal.

As Aaron claws his way through the woods, trying to work out where Mack could be, he comes to a dead end when his search takes him to a huge gorge.

John then looms into view, covered in blood. Aaron doesn't believe a word of his explanation and as John unravels, he realises just how unhinged his husband is.

Urging John to tell him where he can find Mack, Aaron's making headway when Robert turns up and turns John's unease on its head.

Turning on Aaron, furious John rants and raves. Not about to let Robert have Aaron, John then calls the police – spinning a story to frame Robert – before leaping off the cliff with Aaron in his arms…

Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller) is on a holiday getaway to a secluded cottage with his husband, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), on Emmerdale (7:30pm - see our TV Guide for listings).

But unfortunately, he doesn't realise that John has something SINISTER planned, after convincing Aaron to drink from a drugged bottle of whisky...

Aaron's ex-husband/John's brother, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), has already tried to convince him that they still belong together.

Earlier in the week, Robert left Aaron all mixed-up when he kissed him in an attempt to convince him not to pack-up and leave the village with John!

"Aaron just thinks it's the same old Robert from years ago, who often tried to manipulate the situation in his favour," explains Danny Miller who has played Aaron on/off since 2003.

"It's Robert's attempt to get him to stay in the village and have their fairytale ending. But Aaron has decided he is going to make a go of his marriage to John. He can't keep living like this. If Robert's in the village then Aaron is going..."

MEANWHILE, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) is disappointed to discover that Dylan has not checked into the hostel he paid for.

Despite all the trouble the lad has previously landed himself in, village vet Paddy does not want to see Dylan back sleeping rough on the streets again.

However, when Paddy reveals he is going to invite Dylan to move back into Tenant House, his ex-wife Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) kicks off!

April Windsor (played by Amelia Flanagan) is desperate to get back in her friend Dylan Penders's (Fred Kettle) good books on Emmerdale (7:30pm - see our TV Guide for listings)

April almost wrecked her friendship with Dylan after telling her dad Marlon (Mark Charnock) and family friend, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), about the teenager's past involvement with sex work to pay for his drug addiction.

With dodgy drug dealer Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) now in the picture, Dylan is pressured into doing another risky job.

However, this time April volunteers to take on the task instead!

On today's episode of the ITV soap, April arrives in a car park to do a drugs drop-off.

But the teenager gets a scare when a hooded man follows her and threatens her with a knife!

He demands that she hands over the bag containing the illegal drugs... or else!

Afraid for her life, April reluctantly gives the bag to the knife-wielding thief and runs off.

When a shaken April later tells Dylan what went down in the car park, they are both worried about how Ray will react when he finds out his drugs have been stolen.

We already get the sense that Ray is NOT a man that you want to mess with...

Having found out he was one of the lads who terrified the bejesus out of Kyle when he broke into one of the farm's barns, Moira is seething and wants to give him a taste of his own medicine.

While the farmer simmers with rage, fantasising about tearing him limb from limb, down the road, unaware Chas encourages Dylan to give Moira a hand up at Butlers.

Desperately hoping Kyle's kept quiet about their encounter, Dylan's relieved when Moira appears to be none the wiser.

The teenager's powerless to refuse when Moira chivvies him up to the farm.

But when April finds out where her boyfriend's gone and who with, alarm bells ring. Panicking, she tells Chas the terrible truth about the break-in.

As April and Marlon belt over the the Dingle's farm will they reach the place in time to stop furious Moira going at the terrified lad with a pitchfork?

Emmerdale's Moira Dingle uncovers a dark truth in Wednesday's episode

When Kyle Dingle found intruders in his stepmum's barn, he was terrified.

After stabbing one of the masked men with a pitchfork, Kyle plunged into a dark panic, reminded of his fatal encounter with Al Chapman back in 2022.

The incident caused hell for the family who then waged war with the Tates, assuming they were behind the crime as part of their push to buy the farm.

It wasn't the Tates of course. It was Ray's handiwork. Wanting to know if there was any more weed growing inside the Dingles' outbuildings, he ordered Dylan and another lad to break in and check.

When Kyle finally runs into Dylan and makes the connection, he ends up telling Moira despite Dylan begging him to keep quiet.

With Dylan having had a candid chat with Paddy about his sex worker past and having told Ray he doesn't want to do any more drug work, the last thing he needs is an angry farmer coming for him.

Emmerdale's Ross Barton is convinced pregnant Charity is lying (ITV, 7.30pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

Ross Barton didn't buy it when pregnant Charity Dingle told him there is no way the baby she's carrying can be his.

Though she did her best to fob him off, it hasn't worked and Ross wants answers.

When Charity tells him she had a test done, which has proved she's carrying Sarah and Jacob's child, as planned, Ross asks to see the result.

Charity, of course, hasn't got any such proof and when she fails to satisfy Ross he turns round and says he's going to get a DNA test done himself.

Vinny Dingle has got himself in such a mess he has no idea what to do.

His confusion over his sexuality has spiralled out of all control.

Not only has he tried to kiss Kammy, he's ended up looking for answers in all the wrong places and ended up being attacked by a homophobe troll.

Unable to tell the truth about his recent harrowing clash with online menace Mike, he's blamed his bruises on Kammy who's now been dumped by disgusted Belle.

With everyone in the dark about what's gone on, Vinny really needs to open up.

Having found out that Belle has dumped Kammy, Vinny feels terrible. But when she calls in to talk, he can't bring himself to tell her the truth.

Desperate to see her patch things up with Kammy, Vinny insists the mechanic is a good man.

Later, Vinny seeks out Kammy and apologises. But Kammy has had it with the Dingle and refuses to forgive him.

In the Woolpack, Kammy tries to get back on track with Belle but she can't bring herself to take the risk given all she went through with Tom.

Belle's gutted and when Vinny clocks her disappointment, he feels worse than ever.

Elsewhere, April spots Dylan getting into a stranger's car and assumes he's returned to sex work.

When April reluctantly talks to Marlon about it, he ends up telling Paddy, who's taken in the lad.

Later, April realises she's made a mistake and is relieved to find out Dylan wasn't selling himself but was doing a drug drop.

A few weeks ago, when Charity Dingle thought her attempt at being her granddaughter Sarah's surrogate had failed, another row with Mack pushed her to hit the bottle.

That drunken night she kissed Vanessa – but later ended up in bed with her ex, Ross Barton.

Charity later learned she was pregnant and now has no idea whether she's carrying Sarah and Jacob's embryo or another of Ross Barton's kids!

It's a true nightmare and it's killing her, and on top of that she and Mack are on the outs and he's seemingly vanished on her.

Turning to Vanessa, Charity tearfully admits that she's not sure who's baby she's carrying but fails to correct the vet who assumes Charity means her baby could be Mack's.

Rejecting Vanessa's advice to come clean, Charity begs her best mate to keep quiet.

Drug dealer Ray puts on his best performance with Dylan, feigning concern for his wellbeing.

After pouring poison in the teenager's ear, telling Paddy must have an ulterior motive and can't possibly just be being kind to the lad, Ray pretends to care for fragile Dylan and gives him an advance on his wages.

At the garage, Kammy's forced to swallow the latest consequence of Vinny's lies.

Belle's furious when Gabby tells her that Kammy beat up Vinny. Not about to get involved with another violent man, having recently divorced abusive Tom King, Belle dumps the mechanic.

Kammy's done nothing, of course, and is covering for Vinny who's got himself in a terrible mess in his bid to drown out his confusion over his sexuality.

But with Kammy now being painted as an agressive man, will he continue to keep quiet? Will Vinny continue to allow his friend to take the fall?

'I'm genuinely excited about the year we've got ahead': Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley teases Robert's future

Emmerdale favourite Ryan Hawley has shared his excitement about what's to come on the soap, including his character Robert Sugden's story arc and the upcoming Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover episode.

After gate-crashing his ex-husband Aaron Dingle's (Danny Miller) wedding to his half-brother John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), Robert has already found himself at odds with the residents upon his return from a six-year prison stint.

In just a few months, Robert has managed to steal from Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and Mackenzie Boyd’s (Lawrence Robb) weed farm, nearly betray his family legacy, and attack John.

However, the village are oblivious to the fact that the real villain is Robert's twisted sibling John.

Robert's warnings about John have fallen on deaf ears, with the killer medic manipulating everyone with his 'heroic' deeds and turning people against Robert. But in upcoming scenes, John's efforts to ostracise his brother backfire as Aaron and Robert give in to passion.

Talking to What To Watch and other press, Ryan revealed how excited he was for the year ahead and what's to come for Robert's story. Will he manage to expose John for who he really is?

He said: "I'm genuinely excited about the year that we've got ahead. I think the show's in a great place at the moment. I think, the next year, the story arc that I've been told I'm really interested in and really excited about."

Ryan also praised the Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover episode, which is set to air in January 2026.

For the first time in British soap history, the one-off special episode will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre. According to the ITV announcement, an "ambitious stunt" will be involved to mark the occasion, which will have "everlasting consequences for everyone involved."

Ryan shared: "The Corrie-Dale — that's what we're calling the crossover, that's going to be a great week for both shows."

With John's killer secret at risk now that Nate's murder investigation has been re-opened, he's taken steps to have another go at covering up his crime.

And his dirty work seems to have paid off. But for how long?

Tracy's thrown when the removal man, who collected Nate's things all those months ago, doesn't recognise Nate when she shows him a photo of him.

When the police question the man, however, he confirms Owen as the man who paid him to collect Nate's stuff.

With that, John's back in the clear. And as Cain confirms that the detectives have concluded that Owen is guilty of his son's murder, Robert – who's convinced his brother John was involved – is forced to accept he was wrong.

Meanwhile, unaware that his husband and brother have slept together, John is dealing with a nightmare of his own as the police are re-opening Nate's murder case having uncovered a heap of inconsistencies.

When he clocks Tracy and Cain in distress about Nate, the secret killer's guilt mounts.

As Aaron tries to get his head round everything, he offloads on his best mate Mack, admitting that he kissed Robert on his wedding day… and slept with him last night.

With their relationship hanging by a thread, Mack is keen to spend some time with his wife especially seeing as it's an awful anniversary has come around.

Taking himself off to the pub, Mack snaps when Ross starts trying to wind him up about the surrogacy arrangements. Mack admits it's three years since he and Charity lost their baby, confessing that Charity appears to have forgotten.

Later, a huge row blows up between the couple as drunken Mack opens up about his feelings about the surrogacy and reminds Charity of the anniversary.

When Charity boots him out, both are left fearing for the future of their marriage.

Elsewher,e Dylan can't seem to catch a break with his job search. He's torn when he hears from Ray who's offering him easy money to do another drug drop.

After encouraging April to return to school and get her GCSEs, Dylan gets sucked back into Ray's drug work.

Emmerdale spoilers: Robert rages – but who’s his victim?

There’s certainly no love lost between Robert and John Sugden. The half-brothers — one who’s currently married to Aaron and one who previously was — have made no secret of their distaste for each other, even if their sibling Victoria wishes they’d be friends. At best, they have an uneasy truce, with both dialling down their hostilities of late. But that could be something to do with the fact that Robert thinks John bumped Nate off, while John is aware of Robert being in cahoots with Kim over the sale of Annie’s Field.

Always eager for everyone to get along, Vic persuades Robert to spend some time with his nephew Harry. When John spies his husband and brother chatting in the cafe, the green-eyed monster rears its ugly head again and, aware of Vic’s suggestion, the killer formulates another way to make mischief.

And at Keeper’s Cottage, as Harry enthusiastically plays the drums for his uncle, the noise reignites Robert’s PTSD from prison. Losing his temper, he shouts at Harry just as John walks in. Much to John’s delight and Robert’s distress, it’s him the upset youngster clings to, and he revels in telling Aaron what happened later.

Meanwhile, with the joy of her 16^th birthday now feeling like a distant memory, April is feeling the pressure. Terrified of Ray, who’s manipulated her into agreeing to do the drug drop off, worried about letting Dylan down and concerned about betraying the trust her dad has in her, April has a big decision to make.

And as the excitement about her pregnancy builds around her, Charity’s fears increase.

Life hasn’t been kind to Sarah Sugden. She’s living with a life-limiting disease, and although she had successful cancer surgery, her chances of carrying her own child were dashed after she underwent an emergency hysterectomy.

So, when her gran offered to be a surrogate – using Sarah’s previously harvested eggs which were fertilised with Jacob’s sperm – Sarah couldn’t have been happier.

But their joy soon turned to sadness because of Charity’s bleed after suffering a fall.

However, with Mack now changing his mind about the whole process, when Cain offers to secretly fund another embryo transfer, the mission to make Sarah a mum is back on.

At the clinic, Charity is asked to do a pregnancy test – standard procedure - and no one is more surprised than her when the result is positive. Happy Sarah can’t wait to announce the news in the pub, but Charity isn’t in the mood to celebrate. What could she possibly be hiding?

Meanwhile, April horrified when she discovers that Dylan is still mixed up with Ray. Despite her misgivings, she says it’s OK for him to do the next job. But she’s shocked when he reveals that Ray’s plan is for her to actually do the drug drop. Manipulated by the dealer into going ahead with it, April only agrees if it means Dylan will stop working for Ray. As Marlon decides to trust his daughter’s decision making, will she risk breaking his trust?

Stronger since telling her jailed husband Tom that she wants a divorce, Belle has bided her time before thinking about starting another relationship, with the wounds of her coercive marriage still so raw. And although Nicola persuaded her to get on the dating apps, when Kammy popped up and Nicola swiped right on his profile, Belle told a disappointed Kammy it was a mistake.

Understandably over-protective of his half-sister, when Cain gets wind of what’s happened, he can’t help wondering if there’s more between the two than just an accidental action on the app, so he warns his employee off.

But mortified by Cain’s reaction, Belle hesitantly tells the young mechanic she’s not interested. Lydia thinks Belle might be protesting too much, but will she give Kammy a chance?

Elsewhere, as April’s 16^th birthday approaches, she and her dad have different ideas about how to celebrate. The teenager makes it clear to Dylan that she wants to sleep with him for the first time and the pair are later rumbled by Mandy who catches them just after the act.

Marlon’s disappointed when he hears and it’s Rhona who has to talk him down. But Dylan’s got more worries on his plate when Ray gets in touch, asking for his help with a job. And Ray’s not someone you say no to.

Confused about his feelings for Gabby and unsure of his own sexuality, Vinny was relieved when he was able to talk to Aaron about some of the issues he’s been dealing with. After his former brother-in-law said it was normal to have doubts before getting married, Vinny confessed to kissing someone else, although he didn’t admit it was a man. Looking for more answers, he fired up his laptop and started scrolling.

Finding himself on an online forum, he began chatting to Mike, and their digital conversation led to them meeting up in the nearby countryside. Getting on in real life as well as they did on the internet, aside from the odd difficult question, they agreed to meet up again.

Back home, when Gabby tells her fiancé she’s spending the night at a spa, Vinny receives an urgent message from Mike. Turning up on his doorstep unannounced, Mike tells Vinny he’s been kicked out by his partner. After Mike hints at an attraction between them, Vinny is taken aback, denying he feels the same. Wondering what’s going on, Vinny is then horrified when Mike’s behaviour suddenly takes a dark turn, and he becomes terrifyingly aggressive. Meanwhile, when Gabby can’t find her phone and thinks she’s left it at home, she considers heading back to look for it. Will she return to save Vinny before it’s too late?

Elsewhere, after being arrested for ABH and spending a night in the cells, Ruby and Manpreet must decide whether they’re able to put the past events behind them.

With unfinished business, she makes her way to the Depot, where Ruby is working after offering to cover for Caleb, who’s sure he’s left the place in safe hands.

Not interested in what Manpreet has to say, Ruby brushes her aside, so the doc hijacks a forklift and refuses to back down until Ruby hears her out. Bringing up her dalliance with Cain, Ruby isn’t bothered. But when Manpreet mentions Steph, it touches a nerve and the defensive mum lashes out. And with neither woman willing to back down, the police are called!

Elsewhere, still confused about his sexuality and having looked for answers about his feelings online, Vinny got chatting to Mike on a digital forum. Arranging to meet up, the pair appear to be getting on well, but Vinny’s momentarily thrown when Mike asks outright if the scrap metal dealer is gay. Deciding to meet up again, Vinny’s further conflicted when he later shares a passionate snog with Gabby.

And Nicola signs Belle up to a dating up. When she swipes right on Kammy’s profile, Belle is mortified and apologises to him, blaming Nicola, as he masks his disappointment that Belle didn’t willingly choose him.

The businesswoman is head over heels in love with Vinny and the one who moved their relationship forward fairly swiftly. But there’s always been that nagging feeling that something wasn’t quite right.

And when Vinny developed an attraction towards his pal Kammy and planted a smacker on him, he finally realised that he needed to understand his sexuality.

Having put her granddaughter’s dream of being a mother above everything else, Charity offered to be a surrogate for Sarah after Sarah’s hopes were dashed about carrying a baby herself following emergency surgery.

Even though the teen has a life-limiting illness, such was her desire to have a child of her own that Charity put all other thoughts aside and offered herself up to carry Sarah and Jacob’s baby.

However, following a tumble while walking in the woods with Mack earlier this week, the landlady started bleeding, and she had to decide whether to shatter Sarah’s dreams by telling her what had happened.

But as the hi-jinks continue around her, the glamorous gran feels that something’s wrong. And a trip to the toilet reveals that all is most definitely not well, as she's started bleeding.

Confiding in the truth to Vanessa, will the surrogate spoil her granddaughter's big night by telling her she might not be able to make her dreams come true, after all?

Away from the revelry, when Ruby, Manpreet and Lewis share a gossipy lunch together, talk soon turns to their love lives. But when the tables turn and she's given a grilling about her own conquests, the doctor must decide whether to be honest about her bedroom antics with Ross in front of Steph’s mum.

When Laurel overheard he and Kammy discussing Vinny’s commitment to marrying Gabby, she urged him to be honest. But when his fiancée collapsed just before their engagement party, he was terrified he’d lost her and, having been through that once before, he decided to go ahead with the wedding.

But when talking about Gabby’s "wedmin" with Mandy, he finds it hard to maintain enthusiasm to the oblivious beautician. And when Kammy presents him with a watch for his wedding, he can’t stop staring at his friend, with anything but just friendly thoughts.

Elsewhere, having managed to secretly make the drug drop, Dylan tells Ray that’s the last job he’s doing for him. But it seems Ray has other ideas.

April may have made an uneasy truce over Dylan with her dad Marlon, who only had his daughter’s best interests at heart. But with the wayward lad back in the village, the troubled teen only has eyes for him.

With the wound Dylan sustained breaking into Butler’s Farm now infected, he and April sneak into the vets in the hope of secretly cleaning him up.

But when they're suddenly interrupted by a shocked Paddy, the pair are terrified by what he might do next.

However, they’re both relieved that the kindly vet offers to patch him up and even gives Dylan a bed for the night after learning he’s homeless — although he’s unaware he’s in cahoots with Ray. Fortunately, no one spots the bag of drugs in his rucksack that he’s agreed to deliver for the dodgy dealer.

Elsewhere, still in the dark about his husband’s killer past, Aaron is skeptical when John tries to persuade him to go easy on his brother, Robert. Sam's been getting chummy with Joe Tate which is a serious no-no for a Dingle.

So Cain fumed when Sam leaped to Joe's defence in the war over Butler's Farm which is on the brink of collapse.

Furious that his own flesh and blood doesn't appear to be supporting Moira's demise, Cain tears into Sam.

But Sam's got beef of his own with his bullish brother, whose irate wife accidentally hit his wife, Lydia, when she was trying to punch ruthless Joe.

Cain then warned Lydia not to go to the police about it – and Sam's far from impressed.

As a bitter feud sparks between the normally close siblings, who will Sam choose when Cain insists he makes his choice between the Dingles and the Tates?

Elsewhere, Dylan and April catch up again and plan a date.

Emmerdale's Moira Dingle is arrested in Tuesday's episode (ITV1, 7.30pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

The pressure's on up at Butler's for Moira who's arrested following her messy run-in with Joe Tate during which she ended up hitting her sister-in-law Lydia!

It's caused a problem in the family on top of the fact that she's close to losing her farm so emotions are running high.

Later, at the Woolpack, furious Cain rows with Sam about what happened and starts questioning where his brother's loyalty lies.

April reels when she spots her mate Dylan – who she met while she was living on the streets – in the village.

Though Dylan's trying to keep a low profile, he takes time to talk to April, who's thrilled to hear he's clean and sober.

Robert mines Chas for her opinion on John, pushing his theory that his paramedic brother is just too good to be true.

But Chas isn't about to be drawn into badmouthing her new son-in-law and is convinced that Robert's just jealous.

Needing some concrete proof to go on, Robert later spots John's mobile that's been left unattended in the cafe.

Swiping it, the Sugden tries to unlock it so he can have a snoop but doesn't get very far before concerned John comes looking for his device.

Aaron urges Mack to tell his wife Charity how he's feeling about her being a surrogate for her granddaughter.

With Sarah and Jacob fussing round their surrogate, Charity needs some breathing space and sends them out.

Home alone, she vents to her husband Mack. Will he do the same or keep his torment under wraps?
