After three years of co-hosting C4’s The Great British Bake Off with Noel Fielding, the excitement of immersing herself in the glorious world of gingham-clad tables, bucketloads of bunting and a deluge of delicious delicacies still hasn’t worn off for Alison Hammond.

"I’ve never worked on a show where such a cross-section of people come up to talk to me about it. It really brings people together. It’s happy TV. I love it!" says the always bubbly Brummie. "Each series is completely different and this is a lovely, quality season."

Here, as the new run continues with the bakers trying to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith in Biscuit Week, Alison tells us more…

The Great British Baking Show 2025 is finally here, once again kicking off 10 weeks of cake-related catastrophes and mouthwatering recipes as a new batch of bakers enter the tent all with one mission in mind — impress Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith enough to win the title of Star Baker.

The new series, which landed in the UK on Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 2, is now available to watch in the US on Netflix, with new episodes landing on the streaming site every Friday.

As we get to know the new bakers, who have all got their sights set on earning themselves a coveted Hollywood handshake, this series looks like it's going to be the best yet, as it gets off to one of the most dramatic starts ever when Cake Week almost ends in catastrophe.

While we don't want to spoil the drama for you, let's just say there are more soggy bottoms than sponge-based masterpieces this week as the bakers are tasked with first making a Swiss Roll with an inlay design, before having to create a batch of Fondant Fancies for the technical challenge with no recipe at all.

Finally, the bakers are faced with creating a landscape cake for their showstopper, which ends in varying levels of success.

The bakers taking part this year are Toby, Nadia, Aaron, Leighton, Jessika, Jasmine, Hassan, Lesley, Front row: Tom, Pui Man, Iain, Nataliia - but who will be improving their baking skills each week and joining The Great British Baking Show winners list, and who will be feeling the heat in the tent before they're sent home?

The Great British Bake Off 2025 sees 12 more contestants get ready to try to tantalise the taste buds of judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith with their culinary efforts.

Hosted once again by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, the 16th season gets underway on Channel 4 in the UK on Tuesday, September 2 and on Netflix in the US – where it is called The Great British Baking Show – from Friday, September 5. And as the competition kicks off with Cake Week, Paul and Prue are putting the new bakers through their paces in the tent with three tough challenges – a swiss roll Signature, fondant fancies for the Technical and a landscape cake for the Showstopper.

The Great British Bake Off is back! What were the bakers like this year?

Paul Hollywood: “The bakers this year are amazing and really nice. What we're attracting now is not just bakers, they're engineers, they're artists, they're creative, so their bakes are elevated to another level. ‘This was the hardest year to decide who's going to leave. The quality was excellent."

Prue Leith: “Every year, I think it can't get better. But it does! They were a good mix. We had very artistic people, like hairdressers and a wedding stylist and designers, so their Showstoppers were amazing. And they were good fun!”

The Great British Bake Off starts in the UK on Tuesday, September 2 at 8pm on Channel 4 and will be available on the channel’s streaming site from the same date. And in the US it will air as The Great British Baking Show from Friday, September 5 on Netflix.

The Great British Bake Off 2025 is getting ready to welcome a new batch of 12 brave contenders who will be entering TV’s most famous tent in a bid to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith.

Before the 16th series of the culinary contest begins, we’ve got an early look at the amateur bakers who will be donning their aprons to create all manner of Signatures, Technicals and Showstoppers under the watchful eye of hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.

SENIOR SYSTEMS ARCHITECT, 38, FROM LONDON

Originally from Manchester, Aaron, who lives with boyfriend Anthony, loves adding Caribbean twists to French patisserie and experimenting with Asian flavours. Outside of baking, he enjoys making his own liqueurs, sewing, cycling and lifting weights, and he is teaching himself French while also studying for a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Data Analytics.

HASSAN

ANALYTICAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT SCIENTIST, 30, FROM SOUTH YORKSHIRE

The chemistry graduate, who tests new drugs in the pharmaceutical industry, uses his scientific prowess in his baking and, along with learning different skills, he likes to research new tastes and recipes, and he frequently includes nutty flavours that are a key element in the sweets from his Pakistani roots. Hassan, who lives with his mum, is a keen gamer and quizzer in his spare time.

IAIN

SOFTWARE ENGINEER, 29, FROM BELFAST

A one-time amateur powerlifter, Iain, who originally comes from Coleraine, lives with girlfriend Dervla and cat Viktor. The music-lover dubs himself ‘Yeastie Boy’ due to his enthusiasm for sourdough and he has fun recreating album cover art in the crusts of his loaves. He is also a fan of pickling and utilises fermented fruit and vegetables to give a new spin to classic flavours in his bakes.

JASMINE

MEDICAL STUDENT, 23, FROM LONDON

Edinburgh-born Jasmine grew up making bread and cakes with her mum and aunts, and batch-baked for family holidays in the Highlands. Now, as respite from her medical studies and hospital placements, she whips up treats using fresh, seasonal ingredients and traditional flavours. She lives with her cousins and is a keen sea-swimmer, half-marathon runner and hockey player.

JESSIKA

SERVICE DESIGNER, 32, FROM LONDON

Jessika was raised in Cornwall, where she and sister used to enjoy eating cake after dance classes, and she loves demonstrating her gymnastics and roller-skating talents when she performs as her colourful Drag King persona. She likes to display her creativity and innovation in her baking by mixing surprising flavours, and she often makes birthday entremets for her friends.

LEIGHTON

SOFTWARE DELIVERY MANAGER, 59, FROM SURREY

Originally from Swansea, Leighton used to play the organ in his local church when he was growing up. Married to Californian Eric, he likes to blend Welsh/British and American influences in his bakes, while he uses his fondness for maths and formulae to create the perfect recipes. He has an Irish Terrier, Cilla, and frequently sings tunes from musical Les Misérables while cooking up a storm!

LESLEY

HAIRDRESSER, 59, FROM KENT

Avid birdwatcher and gardener Lesley, who lives with partner Mark and dogs Norman and Marley, has been baking since she was 10 after being taught by her nanny and auntie. Now, she serves cakes to her hairdressing clients and makes comforting traditional bakes with modern, eye-catching designs. She is eager to inspire her granddaughter, Mabel, to follow in her footsteps.

NADIA

HAIRDRESSER, 41, FROM LIVERPOOL

Ex-personal trainer Nadia has a penchant for fusing Italian and Indian cuisine and was inspired to cook by her dad, an Italian chef. The Scouser lives with partner Daniel and daughters Rosa-Bella and Maria and makes big Sunday feasts for her family. She creates novelty cakes and develops imaginative approaches to classic recipes to suit her rustic and soulful style, and she loves dancing in her kitchen!

NATALIIA

OFFICE ASSISTANT, 32, FROM EAST YORKSHIRE

Economics graduate Nataliia moved from Ukraine four years ago and her family followed on as refugees from the war with Russia. Her grandmother sparked her love of baking and she now uses Ukrainian-inspired ingredients, such as honey and spices, in old-school British bakes. She enjoys running, painting and walking her Ukrainian rescue dog Aria, and she lives with husband Harry and daughter Francesca.

PUI MAN

BRIDAL DESIGNER, 51, FROM ESSEX

Ardent knitter Pui Man, who was born in Hong Kong, lives with her husband and two children, and volunteers to distribute surplus food from supermarkets to her community. She rediscovered the joy of baking in lockdown and has an eye for detail when designing wedding dresses, and brings the same perfectionism to her bakes – and she would love a hug from Paul Hollywood!

TOBY

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE, 29, FROM WARWICKSHIRE

Raised in Sidmouth, Devon, Toby lives with girlfriend Syd and rescue dog Bex, and he has spent the last three years renovating his home. He works for a fitness start-up and has a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so he tries to bring a simple, healthy take to his bakes, which are based on classic recipes and flavours. Bread is his forte and each day he makes something different.

TOM

CREATIVE ENTREPRENEUR, 31, FROM LONDON

Tom, who has been with his boyfriend for three years, used to work at his own advertising agency, but food is his passion, which he shares with his family, as he learnt to bake with his mum and Danish granny, and he now fishes with his brother and forages for mushrooms and cooks roasts with his dad. He adds creative twists to his bakes and he prides himself on his presentation.

The Great British Bake Off 2025 (or The Great British Baking Show if you're in the US) is on the way, and once again, the series has just released a gem of a trailer.

Over the years, the show's trailers have become a highlight for fans with their cheeky humour and quirkiness, and this year's offering is no different.

The new clip, which is just over a minute long, opens at the beginning of time, and soon, what looks like a meteor starts flying through a starry sky. However, in a hilarious twist, the rock turns out to be an egg, falling into a bowl of cake mixture.

The animated trailer then sees the evolution of humans, which turn into Noel and Alison before opening with a sunny, fully formed world, complete with animals, plants, and even a Prue Leith-shaped sunshine.

Fans will be thrilled that the trailer confirms Prue will be returning to the series after she was replaced in The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2025 earlier this year by Caroline Waldegrave OBE.

While we still have a little wait to find out who will be taking part in the series this year, the show will follow the same format and once again see more cake-related catastrophes and mouthwatering recipes.

Bake Off spin-off show, An Extra Slice, is also back in the UK for another series. The show will start on Friday, September 5, at 8 pm on Channel 4. Episodes will then air in the same slot throughout the series and will once again see Jo Brand and Tom Allen chatting with Paul and Prue, along with that week's exiting baker.

Better known in the US as The Great British Baking Show, the series will air on Netflix every Friday from September 5.

Who has left The Great British Bake Off 2025?

Week one
Hassan became the first baker to leave the show after a slightly disastrous Cake Week. After learning his time was up on the show, Hassan said: "I think I am a bit upset, but I did expect it. Everyone is such a phenomenal baker, they are all such lovely people. And even though it’s been a short-lived experience, I have enjoyed it. Hopefully I can reflect on some things and then maybe get back to baking when I get a chance."

Week two
Biscuit week wasn't meant to be for Leighton, who became the second baker to leave the tent. The 59-year-old software delivery manager from Surrey said: "Someone had to go, right? I had the most fun on Bake Off. I loved it. I had the opportunity and I came up against amazing bakers."

Week three
Bread week ended badly for Pui Man, who became the third baker to leave the series. Despite once again pulling off a great showstopper comeback after a disastrous technical and signature, sadly it wasn't enough to keep her in the show. Speaking of leaving Pui Man said: "I am a little bit disappointed as I was doing well most of the time, but I am part of the Bake Off family now, so it’s not a bad thing."

Week 1 (Tue, Sept 2 in the UK and Fri, Sept 5 in the US) - Cake Week
The new bakers are tasked with first making a Swiss Roll with an inlay design, before having to create a batch of Fondant Fancies for the technical challenge with no recipe at all. Finally, the bakers are faced with creating a landscape cake for their showstopper.

Week 2 - (Tue, Sept 9 in the UK and Fri, Sept 12 in the US) - Biscuit Week
It's crunch time for the bakers as biscuit week arrives, seeing them take on a 'slice and bake' signature, produce a classic chocolate Hobnob in the technical and make their favourite mementos out of biscuit in the showstopper.

Week 3 - (Tue, Sept 16 in the UK and Fri, Sept 19 in the US) - Bread Week
The bakers are hoping for a Hollywood handshake this week as they tackle bread, the steely-eyed judge's speciality. They begin by putting their stamp on a pull-apart monkey bread in the signature challenge, before being asked to make a sticky, messy, fast food technical. For the showstopper, they serve up sweet bread in tiers.

Week 4 - (Tue, Sept 23 in the UK and Fri, Sept 26 in the US) - Back to School week
The bakers return to school, starting off with the classic canteen favourite, flapjacks, before being tested with a fondly remembered school cake technical, with a catch. For their final exam, they have to produce a spectacular school fete showstopper, full of nostalgic treats.

Week 5 - (Tue, Sept 30 in the UK and Fri, Oct 3 in the US) - Chocolate Week
In Chocolate Week, Noel and Alison host as the bakers make fiddly mousse cups for the Signature, a white chocolate tart in the Technical and a fondue display for their Showstopper challenge.

The Great British Bake Off 2025 judges

The Great British Bake Off wouldn't be the same without original judge Paul Hollywood and his famous handshake, and he is back once again for the sixteenth season of the show.

Joining Paul once again is Prue Leith, who has also become a much-loved part of the show since it arrived on Channel 4.

There were fears about Prue's future on the show after she was replaced by Caroline Waldegrave OBE for The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2025, however, it has been confirmed that Prue will be returning for the main show in the autumn.

Here the pair tell us all about the new series...

Welcome back! The series starts with Cake Week, which sees the 12 new bakers make swiss rolls, fondant fancies and a landscape cake for judges Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. How did they get on?

Noel: "This is a banger of a year! The swiss roll was tricky, but the standard was high. They were all pretty strong. And we identified some good bakers straight away!"
Alison: "Yes, there was a moment when we were like, ‘Wow, these are great amateur bakers!’

And you’ve got some new themes later in the series – Back to School Week and Meringue Week – haven’t you?

Noel: "Yes, Meringue week was interesting. And with Back to School there was a nostalgia element. I’d like to have seen Paul in shorts though! I bet he was a naughty schoolkid!
Alison: "It was lovely having flapjacks for Back to School Week and cake where they had to make their own sprinkles!"

What can you tell us about this year’s bakers, who range from a bridal designer to a medical student?

Noel: "They all really liked each other and got on as a gang and were supportive. Some of them have grown up with Bake Off because they have watched it since they were kids – that makes you feel old! But it’s a big journey for all of them. And they learn so much."
Alison: "And they know it could be life-changing – they go in one person, they come out another. But they all love each other and don’t want anyone to lose. And they get a Hammond Hug if they’re feeling down! As soon as they come in the tent they go, ‘Can I have a hug?!'"

As the standard is high, was it hard for you both not to try all the yummy bakes?!

Alison: "I’m getting more disciplined! I only go for the ones that get Hollywood Handshakes. Or anything that wins the Technical. So I only put on two kilos this year and I’ve already lost one!"
Noel: "But if you taste some people's bakes and then not others’ they get upset. So I have to go, ‘I don’t eat anything!’ Because otherwise you get caught out.

And what do you both still enjoy about the show?

Alison: "People fall in love with the bakers and it's all about them. We could be replaced at any moment, but the bakers are what's driving the show. They are the stars."
Noel: "There's a magic to the show. You can't be cynical with Bake Off. You get caught up in it. It's a positive, kind show. And that’s important, because the world's scary, but Bake Off is a nice place."

Is there a trailer for The Great British Bake Off 2025?

Yes! And as always, the trailer was well worth the wait. Not only does it show Alison and Noel back in their presenting roles, but it also confirms that Paul and Prue will be back as judges. Paul can be seen in his human form, while Prue appears as the sunshine and Noel and Alison can be seen in animated form.

Who won The Great British Bake Off 2024?

Georgie was crowned winner of The Great British Bake Off 2024 after narrowly beating Christiaan de Vries and Dylan Bachelet in the final. The trio made a batch of sweet and a batch of savoury scones for the signature, while the final's technical challenge involved them making an afternoon tea.

For the showstopper, the three finalists whipped up a hanging tiered celebration cake that would be suitable as a centrepiece for a summer garden party. While Dylan and Christiaan both created amazing cakes, Georgie pipped them to the post with her classic British flavours and amazing 'English Garden' design.

Speaking of winner Georgie said: "Oh my gosh being the first Welsh baker in the final was a massive achievement in itself, so to have won it is just the best feeling in the world. There were times in the series I thought I might be going home. The fact that I did it for Wales was amazing, and I had massive support throughout from Wales. I hope I have done them proud."

Behind the scenes and more on The Great British Bake Off 2025

The Great British Bake Off is filmed in a beautiful part of the Berkshire countryside called Welford Park, where the white marquee is positioned amongst trees, a beautiful manicured lawn and local wildlife.

Two of my comfort watches teamed up on Tuesday, May 27, as Jeopardy! Masters 2025 featured none other than the iconic Great British Bake Off and Great American Baking Show host Dame Prue Leith as a presenter for a category of clues about, what else, baking. The unexpected crossover between the two shows definitely gave me a spark of joy.

Leith’s category, officially titled “Baking with Dame Prue,” came in the Jeopardy round of the first of two games on the May 27 episode of Jeopardy! Masters, which featured Isaac Hirsch, Yogesh Raut and Victoria Groce, who looked as excited as all Bake Off fans likely were to see Leith.

Perhaps that excitement led to some nerves, as Groce was incorrect in the first clue in the category, where Prue asked them to identify a French cousin to the apple pie, similar to a tarte, made with a buttery flaky crust and sliced apples; Groce guessed tarte tatin, but the answer was a galette.

Groce redeemed herself by giving two correct responses in the category, while Raut and Hirsch also showed some baking knowledge with correct responses to clues.

Leith is not the first big name to help out Jeopardy! Masters host Ken Jennings with delivering some clues. Earlier this season Jamie Lee Curtis presented some about her life and career, Thunderbolts* stars Florence Pugh and David Harbour read clues about other “thunderbolts” in culture and history, and Celebrity Jeopardy! season 3 champion W. Kamau Bell presented clues about other bells.

The addition of Prue Leith on Jeopardy! gives me a little hope that maybe one day we will see Jennings tie on an apron and head into the white tent to show his potential baking skills in a celebrity version of the Baking Show; most likely The Great American Baking Show Celebrity Holiday specials, if any.

Speaking of The Great American Baking Show, season 3 is now streaming on The Roku Channel. Leith, meanwhile, recently debuted Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen season 2 for those in the UK on ITV. And for those eager for a new season of Bake Off, it is expected to premiere in the fall.

Let’s be honest, just as important as the Super Bowl commercials or the actual Super Bowl itself is the food that you have at your Super Bowl party. Everyone has their favorite big game recipes, and now a group of celebrities are going to get to show those off under the white tent in a new special, The Great American Baking Show: Big Game streaming exclusively on The Roku Channel right now.

A special edition of the US version of the classic British baking competition, The Great American Baking Show: Big Game will feature show staples Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, along with hosts Zach Cherry and Casey Wilson, as they welcome five celebrity bakers into the tent to see how they do at baking three different game day dishes.

The celebrity bakers participating are Amy Smart, who starred in the classic football movie Varsity Blues, ESPN personality Katie Nolan, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Arik Armstead and Hall of Fame tight end and current TV analyst Tony Gonzalez.

Many fans of The Great American/British Baking Show will likely be relieved to see Leith participating in this special show. It was announced last week that Leith would not be taking part in The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2025 for the UK’s Channel 4, which may have caused some panic among fans about what that could mean for Leith’s future on the show. However, as was shared at the time, Leith’s absence was expected to be temporary. Her involvement with this special of the American version of the show should be further evidence that Prue isn’t going anywhere.

This is just the latest special for The Great American Baking Show as it continues to build its fanbase. It has previously done holiday specials, including 2024’s The Great American Baking Show: Celebrity Holiday special. There is great news for fans missing The Great British Bake Off 2024 (or The Great British Baking Show if you are in the US) because we now have The Great British Bake Off Christmas specials 2024 just around the corner.

Once again we have two festive episodes to look forward to, one at Christmas and another at New Year, meaning there is lots of Bake Off joy to look forward to over the holiday season.

Once again Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding will be back in the famous white tent to set festive baking challenges for some very familiar faces - and of course, Paul Hollywood MBE and Dame Prue Leith are back to judge everyone's baking skills.

The first of The Great British Bake Off Christmas specials will air on Christmas Eve at 8pm on Channel 4.

The second episode, which is a New Year 2024 special will air on Friday 3rd January 2025 at 7.40pm on Channel 4.

The Christmas episode will see some of the UK's most famous soap stars show off their baking skills as EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy follows in her daughter Eliza's footsteps (Eliza appeared in Junior Bake Off 2022 ) and heads into the tent with her screen sibling Dean Gaffney.

Joining them will be Coronation Street favourite Shobna Gulati and Emmerdale stars past and present Chris Bisson and Sheree Murphy - who has also starred in Hollyoaks and Neighbours).

First, they must make their signature yule log and complete a tricky technical, before constructing a festive soap scene from biscuit. Whose will be worthy of a doof, doof and star baker. There’s also entertainment from former celebrity baker Paloma Faith singing Christmas Prayer.

Then for the New Year special, it’s Happy Hogmanay from Scottish former Bake Off stars Lea Harris from season one, James Morton from season three, Norman Calder from season five, Peter Sawkins winner of series 11, Kevin Flynn from season 13 and Nicky Laceby from season 14.

They return to bake their signature black buns – a pastry-covered fruit cake – and a boozy Cranachan showstopper. Plus, Schuggie & The Big Moose Ceilidh Band start a New Year knees-up. On your marks, get set… BAKE!

Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding will be back to their presenting duties once again for the festive specials - and as with the main Bake Off show, expect lots of capers, silliness and of course, pep talks from Alison as bakers get the wobbles.

Speaking of the Christmas cast, Alison said: "It was a dream cast if I'm honest with you. Dean was so, so funny. He literally didn't have a clue. He didn’t even know how to cook toast. He really tried, it’s not like he's going there for a joke. He took it seriously. That's what I love about celebrity bakers. They take it seriously. They don't come to mess around!"

The Great British Bake Off wouldn't be complete without Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith and the pair are back to cast their expert eye over the bakers' festive offerings again this year.

Speaking of the Christmas special, Paul said: "The standard was alright. You could tell Natalie had baked before and Sheree was doing her best. Shobna was decent – she gave us some great bakes that tasted amazing. The guys did quite well as well… well, Dean didn’t. Dean struggled, bless him, but Chris did an amazing job!"

Talking of the Scottish theme for the New Year special Prue said: "I loved it– it was all Scottish. Paul and I got dressed up. I was wearing the Leith tartan. There are two Leith tartans, actually, one is the Port of Leith because the Port of Edinburgh is called Leith and the other is a family tartan from Aberdeen… that's my tartan. I was wearing a full-length skirt and proper jacket and all the rest of it. And Paul was in full evening dress kilt and sporran!"

This year's Bake Off is almost over, with just two more episodes to go before we find out who will be crowned this year's champion. 

With just four bakers left in the series we are yet to discover who we will be adding to The Great British Bake Off winners list, but while we are still focused on season 15, the team behind the much-loved show is already in full season 16 mode.

It goes without saying that you must have a passion for baking to enter, however don't panic, you don't have to be an expert in everything from buns to biscuits and pastry to patisserie. The only rules are you must be aged 16 or above on 1st January 2025 and a UK resident (including Isle of Man and Channel Islands).

As well as filling in the application form, you also need to include some pictures of you, your best bakes and there is an option to add a short video of yourself, too.

The casting team has also shared some tips for filling out the application... "We’re looking for people with a real passion for baking. Don’t worry if you’re not a great writer, just tell us as much as you can about you and your baking. We want to hear what you’re good at, but also what you’re not so good at. We’re not expecting you to be brilliant at everything; this just helps us to get a clearer idea of what kind of baker you are."

The Great British Bake Off is easily a TV highlight for me every year, there is nothing better than getting cozy on a chilly autumnal evening and settling down to watch all the action going on inside that famous white tent. 

But, my goodness, we are only two episodes into The Great British Bake Off 2024 and already this series seems to be more dramatic than ever - and I love it! 

This week's epsiode (watch out if you are reading from the US and still waiting to see the second episode of The Great British Baking Show - you might want to come back and read this at the end of the week) saw two contestants collapse and one walk out of the competition... that's a lot of drama for a show that some people might mistakenly thing is just about cake! 

In the first epsiode that aired on Tuesday, September 24 in the UK (or on Netflix on Friday, September 27 if you are in the US), we saw Jeff feeling unwell and miss the second half of the show, meaning no one left the tent at the end of the episode. 

But while he was back in the tent and looking better at the start of episode 2 on Tuesday, October 1, things quickly went downhill for the loveable New Yorker and he started complaining of feeling unwell again before walking out and quitting the show.

Speaking of his departure Jeff said: "This time around just wasn't right for me. I really enjoyed it, everyone has been wonderful, you've got a great group of bakers in there. Alright, I didn't make it very far but there you go."

Next to fall ill was Norfolk midwife, Illiyin. She had just finished her showstopper when she suddenly complained of feeling faint and before anyone could react she was on the floor with medics around her. 

Illiyin bravely made it up and went to be looked after off camera, and instead host Noel had to step in and do his best Illiyin impression as he presented her bake to Paul and Prue to be judged. 

But just when we thought that was a lot of drama for one episode, even Dylan had a fall, causing Andy to point out that everyone was 'dropping like flies!'.

Luckily Dylan just fell off his chair while reaching for his water bottle, so no harm done there... but what an episode! I can't wait to tune in next week and see what happens next, but one thing is for sure, Biscuit Week 2024 will go down in Bake Off history as one of the best! 

Noel Fielding is adored by millions as the eccentric host of The Great British Bake Off.

Best known for his lashings of guyliner, a wardrobe of wacky knits, and quirky brand of humour, Noel first found fame in comedy troupe The Mighty Boosh. 

He was also at the centre noughties celeb party scene and went out drinking with the likes of Kate Moss and Courtney Love. 

Life these days looks very different for Noel. He's gone from a hedonistic raver to a devoted husband and father, presenting one of the most wholesome shows on British TV.

He's also a man of many talents, as you're about to learn. Here are a few fascinating facts you may not know about Noel...

Noel Fielding was born to teenage parents

Noel Fielding was born on 21 May, 1973 in the Westminster area of London. He grew up in Mitcham, in the southwest of the capital.

Noel's parents, Ray Fielding and Yvonne Fagan were only 18 when he was born, and split up while he was still young. When he was three, Noel's father remarried and he was largely raised by his grandmother.

The star has often described his childhood as being 'feral'. "My parents had lots of parties, they were hopelessly bohemian," he revealed in an interview with The Sunday Times. "They let me stay up. They had their mates there all the time. They just let me eat what I wanted. I didn't have to eat at the table."

Noel is still close to his dad, Ray, who he describes as 'very chilled'. But tragically his mum, Yvonne never got to see him become a star after passing away in 1990.

His love of cake once got him fired

As the caring co-host of The Great British Bake Off 2024, Noel is there to offer the contestants support and is always very happy to have a taste of their finished creations. 

But his love of sweet treats has got him in trouble before.

In a chat with The Guardian back in 2015, Noel revealed his worst ever job was one he had at a cake shop back when he was 14.

"I got caught by the boss, lying down eating cake," he laughed. "I was sacked on my first day."

Oh dear!

He fell into comedy by chance

Growing up, Noel was mad about art and had aspirations of becoming the next Picasso. He hated school, but found his calling at Croydon Art College, where he completed an art foundation course.

It was there that Noel's teacher, Dexter Dalwood spotted his comedic potential. 

From college, Noel went on to study for a BA in Graphic Design and Advertising at Buckinghamshire College of High Education in High Wycombe. He graduated in 1995.

Two years later Noel met Julian Barratt when they both appeared on the same comedy bill at a pub in north London. And with that The Mighty Boosh was born. 

Noel and Julian took their show, which was a mix of stand up and zany sketch comedy, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it received rave reviews.

The Mighty Boosh made him a household name

The Mighty Boosh burst onto TV screens back in 2004, and gained a cult following, winning Noel and co-creator Julian a string of awards.

Now, two decades on from the show that made him famous, Noel has nothing but happy memories of that time.

"I loved doing it because there was a gang of us," Noel told BritClip. "I did some stand-up before, but when Julian and I got together our double act really worked. Double acts are really rare - they're like unicorns, there aren't many of them around."

Although a Boosh comeback isn't currently on the cards, Noel admits he has regrets they never made a movie. 

"That's what we (me and Julian) always wanted to do and then we got sidetracked. We did TV, radio, live stuff and festivals, a band and books. And we never got around to doing a film. I'm hoping one day we will get to do that."

He's performed as Kate Bush

Who remembers when Noel donned a red dress and wig to dance to Kate Bush's iconic song Wuthering Heights for Let's Dance for Comic Relief back in 2011?

Noel's performance was watched by millions, including the lady herself - Kate Bush.

"She sent me a letter," Noel revealed to BritClip. "And then eventually we met up, and she put me in one of her music videos (Deeper Understanding). Now I'm slightly friends with Kate Bush which is more than I could have hoped for. She's a genius."

He's a successful artist

Noel's dreams of becoming an artist have been realised, and he's created a successful sideline with his work.

He held his first exhibition of his paintings, entitled Psychedelic Dreams of the Jelly Fox, in December 2007, which was followed by a second (Bryan Ferry vs the Jelly Fox) in 2010-2011.

Noel's work has been displayed at renowned venues including the Saatchi Gallery, Museum of Liverpool and the Royal Albert Hall. He's also released a book called Scribbings of a Madcap Shambleton, featuring many of his paintings, drawings and photography. 

And in 2011, Noel received an honorary master's degree from Buckinghamshire New University for his ongoing interest in the graphics area and support for art organisation.

He's added executive producer to his CV

Noel remains a big fixture on UK television. 

He's been Team Captain on BBC comedy panel show Never Mind the Buzzcocks since 2021. And most recently fans have seen him in the Apple TV+ series The Completely Made-up Adventures of Dick Turpin. 

Not only did Noel take on the lead role in Dick Turpin, which is a satire all about the legendary 18th century highwayman, he also worked as an executive producer on the project.

The series was a streaming success and has already been commissioned for a second season.

His daughters are named after famous people

Noel's long-term partner is Lliana Bird, a DJ, producer and author, who goes by the nickname of Birdy.

The couple are said to have been together since 2010. Lliana has appeared in various theatre shows and owns her own production company, Bird & Be. She's also the co-founder of Choose Love, a non-profit organisation that supports refugees.

Noel and Lliana are parents to two daughters. Their first, Dali - who was named after the late Spanish artist Salvador Dali, was born in 2018. Two years later, they welcomed a second girl, who they named Iggy in honour of musician Iggy Pop.

Noel adores being a dad and says the Bake Off gig suits his new lifestyle.

"You want to match your career to where you are in life," he told The Guardian. "It’s mainstream, family-friendly and my kids love it, so it suits me. I love not partying – and I never thought I’d say that.”

He's never learnt to drive

Yes, that's right, Noel does not own a driving license.

He did, however, get a crash course in driving from a certain Mr Paul Hollywood back in 2020. 

It was during the filming for Bake Off, and Paul showed Noel and then co-host Matt Lucas, a few skills on the go kart style buggies used to transport them between locations.

Apparently Matt was quite a natural behind the wheel, but as for Noel. Who knows!

The long wait to return to the white tent is almost over, as Netflix has officially announced that The Great British Baking Show 2024 is going to start releasing its latest batch of episodes on Friday, September 27. This is just a couple of days after the show debuts in the UK (known as The Great British Bake Off in its home country).

Personally, this is exciting news as The Great British Baking show has become the ultimate comfort show for me. After my fiance first sat me down to watch it shortly after we started dating, I soon got into the baking competition. It sees 12 of the UK's best amateur bakers compete (but in the friendliest way possible) by crafting delicious and intricate treats for judges Paul Hollywood (whose famous Hollywood handshake is the desire of all the bakers) and Prue Leith. Throw in some comedy bits from Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, and this has become a great way to decompress on Fridays after a long week. The Great American Baking Show on The Roku Channel is a nice alternative in the spring/summer, but the British version is without question the main event.

Now, Andy bakes for his partner, Nickie, and hopes to inspire his daughter, Maisie, to follow in his baking footsteps – always with the aim of making his adored mum proud! When he’s not in the kitchen, Andy is incredibly active. He plays football, goes to the gym and loves a long walk with Nickie, Maisie and their miniature Schnauzer, Arthur, as well as exploring the far corners of the country in their motor home.

Pastry week in week 5 got the better of Andy, who left the show after his showstopper collapsed and he burnt his technical.

Christiaan - Menswear Designer from London

Born in the Netherlands, Christiaan studied fashion in Amsterdam before moving to the UK seven years ago for his career in fashion. His eye for detail has definitely inspired his baking, with every confection having a little creative flair. And when he's not baking, he loves soaking up the atmosphere in London galleries and museums, as well as nurturing his veg patch and partying in a kitchen disco at home to his favourite tunes.

Christiaan is a finalist for 2024 and won his first Star Baker title in the semi-final after impressing Paul and Prue in Patisserie Week.

Dylan - Retail Temp from Buckinghamshire 

Dylan loves to travel and recently took a gap year traveling through Southeast Asia, exploring the food and meeting new people. When he's not baking, Dylan is an avid skateboarder and has always loved to paint. With an Indian mother and a Japanese-Belgian father, Dylan is super proud of his fusion roots which also influence his bakes and see him experimenting with sweet and spice in his recipes. 

Dylan had a great week in Bread Week (week 3) and not only earned himself a Hollywood handshake for his savoury buns but was also awarded Star Baker. 

Dessert week saw Dylan named star baker once again, while also getting a Hollywood handshake for his signature meringues and winning the Spotted Dick technical.

Dylan is a finalist for 2024 after impressing Paul and Prue in Patisserie Week.

Georgie - Paediatric Nurse from Carmarthenshire

A self-proclaimed cannoli connoisseur, Georgie has her Italian roots and Nonna Rosa to thank for her love of baking. She's also a keen forager who takes inspiration from the food growing in the fields around her Welsh farmhouse which she shares with her husband and three children, 10 chickens, two ducks, two dogs, and a cat.

Georgie won star baker in week four, which was caramel week after coming top in the technical when the team had to make caramel and pear tarts. 

1970s week in week 8 also saw Georgie crowned Star Baker after she did well in the banoffee pie technical and wowed the judges with her 70s-inspired gateaux.

Georgie is a finalist for 2024 after also impressing Paul and Prue in Patisserie Week.

Gill, Senior Category Manager from Lancashire 

Gill is convinced that her love of precision data and her creativity are the perfect blend for success in the kitchen. Not only can Gill not remember a time that she wasn't baking, but she has also used her love of baking to raise money for an Alzheimer's charity in memory of her dad. Her sticky toffee Christmas pudding is the highlight of her family Christmases, and she would describe her baking as traditional with a modern twist.

Pastry week in week 5 was a huge success for Gill, who made an amazing Paris-Brest dessert which both the judges claimed was full of flavor and one of the best things they'd had on the series so far - leaving her to be crowned Star Baker.

Gill sadly left the competition in the semi-finals. Despite impressing the judges with her baking skills throughout the series Gill narrowly missed out on a place in the final after leaving in Patisserie week.

Hazel - Former Nail Technician from Kent

Hazel has been married to her childhood sweetheart for 51 years and the couple have four children and 10 grandchildren, which means she's never short of a family celebration to bake for. Ask Hazel to make a birthday cake and it will come complete with working parts as she's made several remote-controlled car cakes complete with lights and wheels! When she's not baking, Hazel loves nothing more than a bit of bingo.

Sadly Hazel left in Biscuit Week (week 2) after a disastrous signature challenge where her Coffee Viennese Whirls refused to rise.

Illiyin -  Birth Trauma Specialist Midwife from Norfolk

Illiyin is the go-to person in her family if you need a birthday cake, and it's easy to see why when her bakes are all inspired by flavours from many different cuisines and she especially loves using Middle Eastern ingredients like honey, rose, mint, dried fruit and nuts. Not only is Illiyin a qualified midwife but she is also a published author and freelances to help women as they start their journey into parenthood. 

Illiyin got the first Hollywood handshake of the series in week one when Paul loved her Cinnamon Roll Loaf Cake in the signature challenge. 

Sadly week 8 which was 1970s week wasn't Illiyin's week after her gateaux collapsed in the fridge and she became the latest person to leave the competition.

Jeff - Former University Lecturer from West Yorkshire

Jeff might now live in West Yorkshire, but he was raised in the Bronx in New York before arriving in the UK in 1979 when he emigrated with his wife who he met while she was hitchhiking across the US. He learned about baking from his grandmother and Hungarian great-grandmother and it won't come as any surprise that he makes an amazing New York Cheesecake. Jeff is also a keen swimmer, loves going to the gym and enjoys long walks in the countryside.

Sadly Jeff fell unwell in the first episode of the series, and despite returning for week two, he still wasn't feeling right and was forced to bow out of the show. Speaking of his departure Jeff said: "This time around just wasn't right for me. I really enjoyed it, everyone has been wonderful, you've got a great group of bakers in there. Alright, I didn't make it very far but there you go."

John - Directorate Support Manager from the West Midlands

John works in the NHS where he keeps schedules and theatre bookings all running like clockwork. But before finding his dream job, John worked as a hairdresser and an estate agent, and these days he likes spending time relaxing at home with his cockapoo Stanley or passing his love of baking, which he got from his nan, on to his two young nephews. Some of his favourite bakes include fairy cakes, pies, and lemon tarts.

John was named Star Baker in episode one after doing well in the technical and then impressing the judges with his 'The Perfect Brunch' Illusion Cake in the showstopper.

Despite a strong start to his Bake Off journey, John was sadly voted off in week three. Bread week is notoriously tricky on Bake Off thanks to the king of bread, Mr Paul Hollywood, being one of the judges and unfortunately John left after his showstopper failed to impress the judges.

Mike - Farm Manager from Wiltshire 

Mike works at his family farm with his sister and parents and was even shortlisted for Young Farmer of the Year at the 2024 National Arable and Grassland Awards, and was an ambassador for the National Farmers' Union in 2022. Amazingly he has also grown all the flowers for his upcoming wedding to his partner, Matt, and plans to make the wedding cake... but it isn't just the great outdoors that Mike thrives in - he also is a keen baker with a self-confessed homely style. Mike is a big fan of incorporating freshly-grown fruit and edible flowers into his creations and enjoys making big, hearty bakes using local ingredients.

Despite him being the funniest contestant this year, Mike left the show in week 4 which was caramel week. Poor Mike had trouble in the showstopper and was chosen to leave after his caramel mousse cake failed to impress Paul and Prue.

Nelly - Palliative Care Assistant from Slovakia

Now based in Dorset where she is kept busy with her job in nighttime palliative care,  Nelly was born in Slovakia before moving to Austria to study nursing. Her love for baking started when she was inspired to try her neighbour's gingerbread recipe – and since then she has become a self-taught baking addict. Nelly loves incorporating flavours not just from her Slovakian culture, but also from her husband's Pakistani heritage.

Nelly went out in week 6. Actually exiting, she revealed that her best moment in the Tent was, erm, leaving! "The best was me leaving as I was ready to go to see my family and they were ready for me to come home. I was so happy that I went and Dylan stayed…. I couldn't wish for a better ending!"

Sumayah - Dentistry Student from Lancashire 

Sumayah is off to study dentistry at university next year, but instead of sitting back and relaxing in her gap year she decided to spend her time in the Bake Off tent trying to impress Paul and Prue! As well as baking, Sumayah is a keen sewer, and even makes her own clothes, but her best creation of all was a macaron tower that she made for her aunt's mehndi wedding celebration which stood at 1 meter tall and included 240 macarons in four different flavours, complete with a cascade of flowers. 

Sumayah was awarded Star Baker in episode 2 after impressing the judges with her biscuit puppet theatre. And she again picked up the Star Baker prize in week 6.

Sumayah left in Dessert Week (week 7) after her Spotted Dick didn't cook properly and her flavours failed to impress Paul and Prue in the tiramisu showstopper. Sumayah said: “I feel like it wasn’t one specific event that let me down, it was just kind of a series of mistakes here and there. I have learned to be more confident in myself and my ideas. You learn a lot from everyone and I feel I am going to take a piece of everyone away with me.”

The Great British Bake Off is an annual highlight in the autumn TV schedule, and we finally have a release date for The Great British Bake Off 2024. 

The new series will return to Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, in its usual slot of 8 pm. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for a US release date, but it is thought that the show — better known in the US as The Great British Baking Show - will follow the traditional pattern of landing on Netflix shortly after the first episode has aired in the UK. 

Once again we will see a new batch of amateur bakers heading into the famous Bake Off tent to work their magic and hopefully impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. But who will be getting a famous Hollywood handshake and potentially joining the long list of Great British Bake Off winners? 

While the new series starts in only a matter of weeks, we have to wait a little longer before we meet this year's bakers... but it has been confirmed that Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding will be returning to their presenting duties after a new trailer for the series was released.

In a Bake Off first, this year's trailer is animated, and we can see Alison Hammond transformed into a cartoon bumble bee dressed in leopard print while her co-host Noel Fielding is turned into a cowboy-boot-wearing butterfly.

Bumble bee Alison shouts "Let's go, I'm getting a soggy bottom" as the rain pelts down on them both, but eventually they make it through a clearing and as they glide through a sunny animated forest they encounter various sweet treats in the form of past bakes on the show, including a chocolate caterpillar and jammy dodger biscuits. Eventually, they arrive at the famous white tent, where the weather is dry and peace is restored as the new season is announced.

Great British Bake Off fans were treated to a glimpse of what to expect from the new series with a new trailer in a quirky format - with Alison Hammond transformed into an animated bumble bee!

The presenter joins The Great British Bake Off co-host Noel Fielding, a cowboy-boot-wearing butterfly, as they glide through an animated forest and encounter various sweet treats. 

"Let's go, I'm getting a soggy bottom!" Alison (the bumble bee) shouts to Noel, adding, "I'm buzzing for this!"

The advert was also shared on social media, with production company Nexus Studios tweeting about the release. 

"Step into a world of Sweet Relief The first-ever animated campaign for The Great British Bake Off is here!" they wrote on X (formerly Twitter). 

"Directed by Bonnie Taylor Forsyth, produced by us, and crafted with love at @Mighty_Nice, this hand-crafted animation blends nostalgic 2D with playful, modern vibes."

Lex Down, deputy executive creative director for 4creative at Channel 4, explained (via The Sun): "The Great British Bake Off is comfort telly at its best. We wanted our campaign to reflect this and deliver its own slice of cakey warmth and joy.

"We created pin badges adorned with bright baking illustrations and messages of positivity, and in a Great British Bake Off first created a fully animated world rich with detail that reveals different delights with each watch."

Before adding: "Set to the smooth voice of Sammy Davis Jnr singing Sweet Gingerbread Man and with Noel and Alison as our metamorphosed guides, we hope to transport young and old, baking fans or not, to a place where the worst that might happen is a collapsing cake. Flour Power indeed."

The new season of the hit Channel 4 show is eagerly anticipated by fans, with one tweeting today, 'My soul longs for the new season of the great british bake off.'

While we don't have a confirmed date for The Great British Bake Off 2024, the show traditionally airs in the autumn and usually consists of 10 episodes.

The Great British Bake Off 2024 release date 

In the UK The Great British Bake Off 2024 returned to Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, in its usual slot of 8 pm.

The grand final aired in the UK on Tuesday, November 26 at 8 pm on Channel 4.

Better known in the US as The Great British Baking Show, the new batch of episodes began to roll out weekly on Netflix on Friday, September 27. New episodes come out on Fridays on Netflix in the US and the final will air on Friday, November 29.

Who won The Great British Bake Off 2024?

Georgie was crowned winner for 2024 after narrowly beating Christiaan de Vries and Dylan Bachelet in the final. The trio made a batch of sweet and a batch of savoury scones for the signature, while the final's technical challenge involved them making an afternoon tea.

For the showstopper, the three finalists whipped up a hanging tiered celebration cake that would be suitable as a centrepiece for a summer garden party. While Dylan and Christiaan both created amazing cakes, Georgie pipped them to the post with her classic British flavours and amazing 'English Garden' design.

Speaking of winner Georgie said: "Oh my gosh being the first Welsh baker in the final was a massive achievement in itself, so to have won it is just the best feeling in the world. There were times in the series I thought I might be going home. The fact that I did it for Wales was amazing, and I had massive support throughout from Wales. I hope I have done them proud."

The Great British Bake Off 2024 themes and episodes 

Each week the bakers face the regular challenge trinity: the signature, technical and showstopper. Alongside returning themes of Cake, Biscuit, Caramel, Bread, Pastry, Dessert, and Pâtisserie, there are two new weeks: Autumn and 1970s.

Episode 1: Cake Week - Tuesday, Sept 24 in the UK and Friday, Sept 27 in the US
First up, it’s Cake Week and the bakers are asked to elevate a loaf cake to new heights. Next, waiting under the fabled gingham cloth, are the mystery ingredients for a technical with a twist. Finally, they must make a showstopping hyperrealistic illusion cake.

Episode 2: Biscuit Week - Tuesday, Oct 1 in the UK and Friday, Oct 4 in the US
In biscuit week, the signature challenge sees the bakers making Viennese sandwich biscuits, before taking a nostalgic turn in the technical, as they recreate a retro minty family favourite. Finally, the bakers take on a dramatic showstopper blending comedy and tragedy, as they craft their own biscuit puppet theatres

Episode 3: Bread Week - Tuesday, Oct 8 in the UK and Friday, Oct 11 in the US
Week three is Bread Week, the bakers are challenged to make savoury buns and bread horns filled with delectable delights. In the Technical challenge, the bakers must follow along as Paul Hollywood demonstrates a recipe before them

Episode 4: Caramel Week - Tuesday, Oct 15 in the UK and Friday, Oct 18 in the US
Caramel Week sees the bakers craft caramel biscuits in the Signature challenge before taking on a classic caramel Technical. The Showstopper Challenge sees the bakers making decadent mousse cakes to impress judges Prue and Paul.

Episode 5: Pastry Week - Tuesday, Oct 22 in the UK and Friday, Oct 25 in the US
In Pastry Week the bakers make a frangipane tart in the Signature before setting sail for warmer climes with a flaky Technical. The Showstopper tests the bakers' choux skills as they take on a tricky Paris-Brest, complete with an impressive freestanding podium that could make or break their pastry dreams.

Episode 6: Autumn Week - Tuesday, October 29 in the UK and Friday, Nov 1 in the US
The bakers take on some seasonal challenges in Autumn Week. In the Signature, they bake a sweet, autumn-inspired pie before making a vegan version of a traditional Northern classic in the Technical. The Showstopper sees them celebrating seasonal vegetables by transforming them into celebration cakes.

Episode 7: Dessert Week - Tuesday, Nov 5 in the UK and Friday, Nov 8 in the US
The bakers' meringue-making skills are put to the test before they make their own attempts at Prue's twist on the classic British steamed suet pudding. The Showstopper Challenge sees the contestants putting their own mark on the beloved tiramisu.

Episode 8: 1970s Week - Tuesday, Nov 12 in the UK and Friday, Nov 15 in the US
It's the quarter-finals and the bakers are challenged to whip up a towering profiterole masterpiece, a retro favourite and an elaborately decorated gateau that demonstrates the flair of the era.

Episode 9: Patisserie Week - Tue, Nov 19 in the UK and Friday, Nov 22 in the US
It's the semi-final and the bakers face perfecting a rich, buttery breakfast pastries in the Signature and then challenge their precision in a classic but theatrical Technical. And to earn their place in the final, the bakers make a stunning fruit creation in the Showstopper.

Episode 10: The Final - Tuesday, Nov 26 in the UK and Friday, Nov 29 in the US
The three finalists bake delicate scones, prepare a quintessential afternoon tea and create a hanging tiered celebration cake as a centrepiece for a summer garden party. Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding encourage the bakers, while judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith taste their efforts - but only one can be crowned the winner.

Who has left The Great British Bake Off 2024 and who has won star baker?

Week one: In a surprise twist, no one left the Bake Off tent in the first episode after Jeff fell unwell and was forced to miss most of the show. John was named Star Baker and Jeff will return in episode 2.

Week two: After feeling unwell for a second week, Jeff was forced to bow out of the show. Speaking of his departure Jeff said: "This time around just wasn't right for me. I really enjoyed it, everyone has been wonderful, you've got a great group of bakers in there. Alright, I didn't make it very far but there you go." Hazel was also voted off after a disastrous signature challenge and Sumayah was awarded star baker after impressing with her biscuit puppet theatre.

Week three: Bread week is notoriously tricky on Bake Off thanks to the king of bread, Mr Paul Hollywood, being one of the judges. Dylan had a great week, even earning himself a Hollywood handshake for his savoury buns before being crowned Star Baker, while sadly John was voted off after his showstopper failed to impress the judges.

Week four: Caramel is another tricky ingredient to master... but while Georgie proved she could handle the pressure by coming top in the technical and winning star baker for the week, unfortunately, it was Mike who left the show after his caramel mousse cake failed to impress.

Week five: Pastry week was a huge success for Gill, who was made Star Baker after she created an amazing Paris-Brest dessert which both the judges claimed was full of flavor and one of the best things they'd had on the series so far. Meanwhile, pastry got the better of Andy, who leave the show after his showstopper collapsed and he burnt his technical.

Week six: Autumn week saw Sumayah declared the Star Baker. But it was the end of the road for Nelly. Nelly said: "It's not commiseration, it is a positive, I am so ready to leave. I never ever thought I would get to round 6! I know my children are so proud. It's not to teach them to win it is to teach them to enjoy. Don't cry! Everyone is crying… Of course, I am happy — in each of your hearts is a piece of Nelly and you are never going to forget me. Cake – we can bake!'"

Week seven: Dessert week saw Dylan named star baker, while also getting a Hollywood handshake for his signature meringues and winning the Spotted Dick technical. Sadly, Sumayah had a bad week after her Spotted Dick didn't cook properly and her flavours failed to impress Paul and Prue in the tiramisu showstopper. Sumayah said: “I feel like it wasn’t one specific event that let me down, it was just kind of a series of mistakes here and there. I have learned to be more confident in myself and my ideas. You learn a lot from everyone and I feel I am going to take a piece of everyone away with me.”

Week eight: 1970s week saw Georgie crowned Star Baker after she did well in the banoffee pie technical and wowed the judges with her 70s-inspired gateaux. Sadly it wasn't Illiyin's week after her gateaux collapsed in the fridge and she became the latest person to leave the competition.

Week nine: Patisserie week saw Christiaan win his first star baker crown after impressing the judges with his life-like fruit showstopper. The semi-final was very tight as all the bakers did brilliantly, but in the end, it was Georgie, Christiaan and Dylan who made it through to the final. Sadly Gill became the latest person to leave the show. Speaking of her exit she said: "Patisserie got me! But I can't be sad – I've had the absolute best time!" Paul added: "It wasn't that Gill messed up, it was just everybody else was that little bit better. She's such a lovely lady, and she represented the north [of England] and my part of the world extremely well."

Week 10 - the final
The final episode saw Christiaan, Dylan and Georgie battle it out to be crowned the winner of 2024. Dylan struggled with timings in his signature and technical, but Christiaan was way ahead after winning the afternoon tea technical challenge. However, it was Georgie who pipped the pair to the post in the showstopper after creating a stunning hanging cake which secured her place as this year's winner.

Yes! The trailer sees Noel and Alison in animated form as a cowboy boot-wearing butterfly and leopard print-clad Queen Bee flying through stormy skies before arriving in a calm and peaceful world of baked goods, eventually arriving at the famous Bake Off tent.

On their journey, Noel and Alison's insect alter-egos see bakes from past seasons including a caterpillar cake and jammy dodgers as a big banner drops saying 'sweet relief' - announcing that the series is returning soon...

The Great British Bake Off 2024 judges

The Great British Bake Off wouldn't be the same without original judge Paul Hollywood and his infamous handshake, and he is back once again for the fifteenth season of the show.

Joining Paul once again is Prue Leith who has also become a much-loved part of the show since it arrived on Channel 4.

Speaking of the standard of baking in this year's series, Paul said: "I was really surprised by the standard. Again. And the journey of some of the bakers, I found fascinating. There was a natural progression of them getting steadily better and better and that's how you do it in the tent.

"There were a few handshakes. It was difficult not to give a handshake. It’s almost a reflex action I have no control over. The brain kicks in and sends a message to my arm and out it goes before I've even had a chance to react!"

Speaking of the new themes - 1970s and Autumn - added to this year's series, Prue told us: "Remember, for me, the 1970s was like yesterday. The 1970s was my decade because I opened my restaurant – Leith’s – in 1969, I opened my cookery school in 1974 and I had my catering business. All of that decade, I was working really hard, but having a great time. It's also the decade my children were born and we moved to the country."

The Great British Bake Off 2024 hosts 

Noel Fielding is back for another year in the tent and is joined again by Alison Hammond, arrived last year after Matt Lucas stepped down from his presenting role.

Alison joked that this year's baking disasters were mainly caused by Noel... "Noel caused quite a few disasters if I'm honest with you. There were a few near misses. We’re basically there to make things easier and sometimes we bring chaos. We did a couple of times!"

Noel also admits they are the naughty kids on set: "Teah. We're a bit too naughty maybe. We kept thinking: ‘Oh, we're being too naughty. We need to rein it in…’ Alison’s son comes and he always laughs at us and just goes: ‘You two are so naughty. I can’t believe you’re getting paid for this!'"

Where is The Great British Bake Off 2024 filmed? 

The Great British Bake Off is filmed in a beautiful part of the Berkshire countryside called Welford Park, where the white marquee is positioned amongst trees, a beautiful manicured lawn and local wildlife.

Who won The Great British Bake Off 2023? 

Matty Edgell was crowned winner of The Great British Bake Off 2023 after nudging ahead of Josh and Dan after the trio were tasked with a choux pastry signature, a lard cake technical challenge and a celebration cake showstopper in the final.

Matty thrilled the judges with his impressive showstopper, which was a three-tiered cake, with Paul admitting it was one of the best sponges he'd eaten in years.

The crème de la crème of the baking will once again be on show for a fresh batch of Bake Off: The Professionals — the elite sister show of The Great British Bake Off — with its 2024 series coming out of the oven on Monday, June 10.

Episode 1 - Monday, June 10
Ellie Taylor and Liam Charles welcome a new batch of professional pastry chefs from hotels, restaurants and patisserie shops around the UK. To get things rolling, judges Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin have a French classic up their sleeve in a secret challenge for the teams, and without proper recipes to hand, the chefs must rely on their knowledge and teamwork to create 36 individual tarte aux fraise and one chocolate amenity in just three and a half hours.

Episode 2 - Tuesday, June 11
The teams turn their patisserie experience on its head by creating 24 identical reimagined custard tarts and 24 cotton cheesecakes, before making a carnival-themed showpiece. 

Episode 3 - Monday 17 June
The four best teams from the last round take on Pastry Week. In their first challenge the teams turn their hand to viennoiserie, and make 18 cross-laminated pain Suisse and 24 savoury brioche doughnuts.

Episode 4 - Tuesday, June 18
Six new teams are thrown in at the deep end, with a secret challenge: to make a classic coffee éclair, accompanied by an amenity. They must draw on all their knowledge and experience as they have no recipe to follow. In their second challenge, the teams play illusionists as they create a Trompe l'oeil showpiece sculpture inspired by everyday household objects, within which a tarte Tatin to serve 40 must be hidden. Whose patisserie prowess will shine through?

Episode 5 - Monday, June 24 
The remaining teams let their imaginations run wild as they're charged with creating 24 individual sticky toffee puddings and 24 individual charlotte à la russe, both of which must be reimagined and individually identical across each batch. In the second challenge, the teams need to channel their inner fashionistas as they create a haute couture inspired showpiece display in just five hours.

Episode 6 - Tuesday, June 25
In the first challenge, the remaining bakers must deliver 18 buttery, flaky savoury croissants and 24 perfectly filled maritozzi for judges expecting nothing but absolute perfection. In the showpiece challenge the teams will need to tap into their light-hearted natures, as they produce a towering choux and nougatine showpiece with a playtime theme and featuring 160 filled choux. All this needs to be delivered to the judges in just five hours. Which teams will have structured their ascent to a spot in the final six and whose time will come crashing to an end?

Episode 7 - Monday, July 1
Liam Charles and Ellie Taylor welcome back the best three teams from each set of heats for a chocolate-fuelled pursuit to reach the final. For their first challenge, the chefs create two batches of chocolate bars, after which they must create a hanging showpiece made entirely from chocolate and delicately suspended from the ceiling, inspired by a Mythical Beasts theme. 

Epsiode 8 - Tuesday, July 2 
It's the quarter-final, and the five remaining teams take on a secret challenge to create a plated dessert celebrating caramel for each of the judges. For their second challenge, the teams have five hours to create a display of frozen lollipops presented within a delicate sugar sculpture, inspired by a Winter Wonderland theme.

Episode 9 - SEMI FINAL - Sunday, July 7
Guest judge Nicolas Houchet, executive pastry chef at the Savoy, joins the team for the semi-final. The four remaining teams must perfect Nicolas' modern version of the peach Melba with a minimal recipe to guide them. For their second challenge, the teams create an entirely edible fairy-tale scene with hidden rhubarb and custard desserts to serve 40.

Epsiode 10 - THE FINAL - Monday, July
The final of Britain's toughest patisserie competition will see the remaining three teams create an Afternoon Tea display and make a banquet celebrating the very best of British, with towering sugar and chocolate showpieces and enough desserts to feed 120. 

Bake Off: The Professionals 2024 hosts 

Once again Bake Off: The Professionals will be hosted by Liam Charles and Ellie Taylor. 

Judges Benoit and Cherish told us they are pleased to see Ellie back after making her hosting debut last year... "Ellie’s smart, funny and gives the show a good energy, while Liam’s always a joy. They’re great fun," Benoit said. 

Cherish added: "They both bring warmth and a remarkable ability to calm down the chefs during tense moments."

Bake Off: The Professionals 2024 judges 

As in previous years, Benoit Blin, who is Chef Pâtissier at Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin-starred Oxfordshire restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, and Cherish Finden, international pastry consultant and former executive pastry chef at London hotel The Langham, will be judging the culinary competition.

Aside from being one half of The Great British Bake Off judging panel alongside Paul Hollywood, Dame Prue Leith is probably best known for her amazing sense of style. 

The Bake Off legend has been brightening up our screens for years with her colourful dress sense and jazzy glasses, so it might come as something of a shock to know that she doesn't actually need her glasses to see! 

This morning (Friday, May 3) on Lorraine, Dame Prue Leith and her husband John Playfair joined Ranvir Singh to discuss life working together on their show, Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen. 

The show then put on a ‘Dopamine Colouring’ fashion segment with stylist Mark Heyes in honor of Prue... and during the fashion show Prue shocked the viewers by revealing that her glasses had no lenses in them!  

She said: “I have 75 pairs but I only have 20 with my prescription in them… I don’t really need glasses but of course, I love my glasses.” 

Ranvir laughed and told her: “I didn’t even notice. That is absolutely brilliant!” and Mark added: “Television secrets right here. This is an exclusive.” 

During her time on Lorraine this morning, Prue also joked that she doesn't own anything grey or beige in her wardrobe and that she doesn't actually like shopping all that much... 

Prue's husband John said: “I’ve always loved colour and so has Prue. I just think I sort of put the wind under her wings really. She would say, ‘I can't wear this or I can’t wear that at my age’... I love big earrings, bright colours.”

Prue added: “He buys a lot of my stuff. It’s wonderful between him and the girl who does all my Great British Bake Off styling, I never have to go shopping. I hate shopping. They just bring stuff and I say ‘yes’ or ‘no’.”

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer is always a great mix of fun and fundraising. Why did you want to take part?

“I’d never put myself in a celebrity version of something unless it was for charity, and this is all for the greater good. You’d be hard pushed to find someone who hasn’t been affected by cancer to some degree. I’ve been lucky, because I haven’t had cancer, and people in my life who have, are all cancer survivors. That’s down to research and donations. Anything that raises money to fight something that is so cruel is only positive.”

Are you a Bake Off fan too?

“Yes! I wanted to be a tourist in the tent. It looks just like it does on television. It’s so inviting, beautiful and brightly coloured, and it evokes nostalgia.” 

The episode sees you make cake pops, a twisty treat and biscuit portraits of Paul and Prue. Do you have a talent for baking?

“No! I’ve never baked anything other than a cake mixture for buns. But I wonder if I might be better than I give myself credit for! If you can follow a recipe, you can bake. But I couldn’t go off-piste and start designing my own thing.”

How do you feel about being judged by Paul and Prue?

“As an actor, I need praise, so if I don’t get any, I’ll be gutted. A Hollywood Handshake would mean more than I anticipated, because I was initially like, ‘It’s all a laugh, don’t worry’. Then, as soon as I got in there, I really cared. Because of the naysayers at home who assume I’ll be awful, I’d love to go, ‘I told you I could do it!’”

Are you competitive?

"Yes, you need a healthy competitive nature, but it’s cancelled out by my lack of preparation! I’m not good at doing my homework, I wing it." 

What are you most nervous about?

“People seeing my personality unedited and not being given any lines to say! Generally, I like getting out of my comfort zone, but I’ve never done anything where I’m myself, apart from Children In Need [in 2019], where we recorded an album.”

Have you chatted to any friends who have been in the tent previously?

“I rang John Bishop [who played companion Dan Lewis in Doctor Who], who said he had a great time on it [in 2021]. And I remember him smashing a bowl, so I thought, ‘I can’t do much worse!’” 

What’s your signature dish at home?

“There are about three dishes that go in rotation with me. I’m lucky, there are other people in our family who cook, I’m terrible! But I’m brilliant at Yorkshire puddings! And my mum’s spag bol sounds disgusting but tastes amazing. It’s mince with ketchup and single cream. Try it! I posh it up with chopped mushrooms, tinned tomatoes and fried onion. It’s beaut!”

And have you ever had any epic kitchen fails?

“Yes, in the early stages of dating my husband, I sprayed the worktop with surface cleaner, and then our pizza arrived, and I put it on the side. The surface cleaner soaked into the pizza, and he ate it and got ill. That was a disaster. Now I’m nervous about any poisoning scenario [in the tent], having done it before!”

The Great British Bake Off judge, Dame Prue Leith, will take a break from the show later this year - but don't worry, she will be back! 

The news that Prue would be bowing out of the show has left fans worried, but we can confirm that it is a future show that she will take a break from, and is still appearing in this weekend's The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2024, which starts on Sunday, March 17 at 7.40 pm on Channel 4. 

The news that Prue wouldn't be in next year's celebrity spin-off for Stand Up To Cancer was reported by The Sun, with a source reportedly saying: “Prue absolutely loves working on Bake Off but filming two series a year can be punishing on top of her other commitments.

“She has already filmed the normal series, which will air this year but she will not appear on the celebrity version. Prue has made it clear she adores the show and would like to come back in 2025."

A spokesperson from Love Productions confirmed the news to Digital Spy saying: "Prue will be stepping back from The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer."

Prue has become a much-loved part of the show after taking over from Mary Berry back in 2017 and appears alongside fellow judge Paul Hollywood, 58, and hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.

It is yet to be announced who will be temporarily stepping into Prue's judging shoes, with The Sun claiming that Channel 4 are now hunting for a replacement, with celebrity chef Nigella Lawson favorite to join Paul as judge.

This weekend will see Prue and Paul put another batch of celebrity bakers to the test in The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer 2024. 

Some of the stars facing the signature, technical and showstopper challenges include Danny Dyer, Dermot O'Leary, Gabby Logan, Greg James, Jodie Whittaker, Joe Locke, Leigh Francis, Mel B, Oti Mabuse, Paloma Faith, Sara Cox and Spencer Matthews.

Following the huge success of The Great British Bake Off 2023, which saw 28-year-old Matty Edgell join The Great British Bake Off winners list, we had a new batch of celebrities trying to impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. But who was awarded a famous Hollywood handshake and who suffered from a soggy bottom?

As usual, each episode saw the celebrities battle it out over three rounds, the Signature, the Technical and the Showstopper challenge in a bid to be crowned star baker at the end of their episode. Unlike the usual series, no one was sent home from the celebrity spin-off.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2024 saw 20 familiar faces battling it out in the famous white tent, with some secretly harbouring a passion for baking, while others struggled to work the oven! 

Here is the lineup for 2024 - and it's a cracker! 

Former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker was up against singer Paloma Faith, Comedian and TikTok sensation Munya Chawawa and reality star Spencer Matthews.

Radio 1 host Greg James competed against TV presenter Dermot O'Leary, Spice Girl Mel B and comedian Fern Brady.

Meanwhile, former Strictly Come Dancing star and Dancing On Ice 2024 judge Oti Mabuse went head-to-head with broadcaster Gabby Logan, and comedians David O'Doherty and Suzi Ruffell.

Also entering the tent together were broadcasters The Reverend Richard Coles and Sara Cox, Heartstopper star Joe Locke and TV host Adam Hills

Finally, EastEnders and Heat star Danny Dyer battled against comedian Rhod Gilbert, documentary maker Yinka Bokinni and TV star Leigh Francis.

Episode one - Sunday, March 17

First to enter the UK’s most famous tent are actor Jodie Whittaker, singer Paloma Faith, comedian Munya Chawawa and television personality Spencer Matthews. The first episode got the series off to a great start, with the celebrities baking Paul and Prue out of biscuits... and Spencer Matthews taking home the converted Star Baker apron. 

Episode two - Sunday, March 24

Actor Danny Dyer, comedians Rhod Gilbert and Leigh Francis, and radio and TV presenter Yinka Bokinni show off their baking skills in week two. Leigh’s consistency throughout the Signature, Technical and Showstopper bagged him the Star Baker apron, with the other celebs not too far behind in some amazing bakes.

Episode 3 - Sunday, March 31

There is dancing and high jinks in the tent for week three as four big personalities battle it out to be crowned Star Baker in The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C. Oti Mabuse, Gabby Logan, David O’Doherty and Suzi Ruffell all have their eye on the covetable Star Baker apron - and in the end, it was Gabby who was crowned winner after showing impressive baking skills in each challenge. 

Episode 4 - Sunday, April 7

Dermot O’Leary joins the lineup for week four of The Great Celebrity Bake Off, along with radio and television presenter Greg James, comedian Fern Brady and Spice Girl Mel B. After celebrities were tasked with creating a biscuit portrait of their celebrity Doppelgänger, Dermot was awarded star baker after excellent consistency throughout the challenges. 

Episode 5 - Sunday April 14

The fifth episode sees Heartstopper star Joe Locke pitted against Reverend Richard Coles, comedian Adam Hills and radio and television presenter Sara Cox. After baking biscuit bars and custard slices, it was Sara’s ‘Jeremy Vine on a Penny Farthing’ cake (which saw Jeremy sat atop a caramel sponge penny farthing with buttercream and chantilly!) win her the title of star baker.

Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding were back for the new celebrity spin off. 

Alison is renowned for taking part in the celebrity version of Bake Off in 2020, before joining the show as host alongside Noel Fielding as host in 2023.

Celebrity Bake Off 2024 is on the way and there's a great line-up competing this year, including stars from Doctor Who, Heartstopper, and This Morning.

20 new celebrities have been announced to take part in the Great British Bake Off 2023 spin-off, which is once again in aid of the charity Stand Up To Cancer.

Channel 4 has confirmed that this year's line-up features former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker, presenter Dermot O'Leary and Heartstopper lead Joe Locke, who will all be hoping they've got what it takes to be crowned star baker.

Meanwhile, The Last Leg's Adam Hills, EastEnders legend Danny Dyer, comedian David O’Doherty, and Taskmaster's Fern O’Brady are all keen to compete against them.

Completing the line-up are Radio One presenter Greg James, Leigh Francis, Mel B, satirist Munya Chawawa, Oti Mabuse, Paloma Faith, The Reverend Richard Coles, Rhod Gilbert, broadcaster Sara Cox, reality star Spencer Matthews, comedian Suzi Ruffell, and presenter and documentary filmmaker Yinka Bokinni.

Alison Hammond, who has previously appeared on the spin-off and now hosts the main show, said: "I’m totally in awe of this year’s celebrity bakers, all putting their baking skills, or in some cases lack of, under nationwide scrutiny to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

An air date for this year's Celebrity Bake Off has not yet been confirmed by the broadcaster, but now we have the confirmed line-up, hopefully, we won't have long to wait!

This year's line-up is all hoping to follow in the footsteps of other Celebrity Bake Off Star Bakers including Fool Me Once star Michelle Keegan, comedian  Joe Wilkinson, and Dragon's Den's  Deborah Meaden. But it's no easy task, of course!

The Great British Bake Off festive specials — who will appear?

Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith will be on hand to judge the bakers’ offerings as usual, while hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond will oversee proceedings and offer a shoulder to cry on for the bakers!

“It’s lovely having the old bakers in the tent because they know what they’re doing.  They were all pretty good!” says Paul Hollywood. 

The Great Christmas Bake Off will see Sophie (the series eight winner), Dan (series 9), Amelia (series 10), Linda (series 11), George (series 12) and Carole (series 13) return to whip up Yuletide bakes. 

"I was nervous at first, but soon settled down, it all felt very familiar again, at least I knew where everything was!’ laughs Carole. “I still had the heebie jeebies when we were running out of time at the end of a challenge though. My best moment was when Paul Hollywood gave me praise for my Signature bake. But my worst was when history repeated itself in the Technical…”

Meanwhile in The Great New Year Bake Off, Mark (series 11), Jürgen (series 12), Maggie (series 12) and Maxy (series 13) brandish their wooden spoons once more to celebrate Hogmanay with some tasty offerings. 

“Being back in the tent with the wonderful crew and bakers, it was like coming home and it was very festive,” says Jürgen. “I am far more relaxed and confident about my baking now. But I accidentally switched off my oven!”

The Great British Bake Off festive specials — what will the contestants be baking?

In The Great Christmas Bake Off, the bakers make mince pies for the Signature Challenge, tackle a tricky Technical and bake a Redemption Cake in the Showstopper.

“The Redemption Cake is one that's been keeping them awake since they were in the tent before. We wanted to see if they could rectify the mistakes they made,” explains Paul Hollywood. 

“Most redeem themselves and talk about their terrible previous experiences!” shares Dame Prue Leith. “Now, of course, they are not so nervous.”

In The Great New Year Bake Off, they make stacked choux buns for a religieuse in the Signature, before they face another fiendish Technical and then make a ‘Smash Cake’  inside a chocolate shell for the Showstopper.

“It’s difficult stacking choux buns and getting them all to look the same,” says Dame Prue. “Choux is unpredictable!”

“I’m a big fan of choux buns and they did a great job,” adds Paul. “And who doesn’t want to smash a chocolate shell to get to a cake!” 

Will there be any festive entertainment?

Yes, each episode ends with a seasonal performance. In The Great Christmas Bake Off, a Citizens of the World Choir, made up of refugees, sings. Meanwhile in The Great New Year Bake Off, Jürgen plays the Bake Off theme tune with trombone quartet Bone-Afide.

“The choir was amazing,” says Noel Fielding. “They sang Carol of the Bells. It felt like Christmas even though it was boiling hot filming in summer!”

“The Christmas choir was brilliant,” agrees Alison Hammond. “We wanted them to do it again, because it was beautiful. We had fake snow too and our winter coats on – we were roasting! And Jürgen’s band was amazing at New Year!”

After a series jam-packed with marvelous meringues, captivating cakes and perfect pies, just three challenges stand between the remaining bakers and the coveted trophy in the finale of C4’s The Great British Bake Off 2023.

The trio of nervous finalists, Dan, Matty and Josh, must pull out all the stops to tackle a choux pastry Signature, a nostalgic Technical and a multi-layered Showstopper cake. But who will emerge victorious?

The Great British Bake Off fans are calling on Channel 4 to give Saku her own show after the fan-fave was booted out of the competition in episode seven. 

Dessert Week on The Great British Bake Off 2023 was certainly a dramatic one indeed. With just six bakers left in the competition, there was very little room for error, and Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood decided that Saku hadn't done enough to save her spot in the competition. 

Saku made a decent start in the Signature round; her creme caramels looked impressive, even if the judges said they were too sweet. Unfortunately, Saku's run took a turn from that point on.

None of the bakers managed to serve up some proper treacle tarts in the Technical Round —Saku came fifth, with her bake labeled 'terrible' during judging. Her bee-themed Showstopper meringue bombe looked pretty, but the judges found several faults. 

Hollywood criticized her choux buns hidden inside, and was disappointed that the bottom half of the meringue base had cracked into pieces; Prue said some elements were good, but said Saku needed to do more in the flavour department. 

Given how much love Saku has had from the fans at home, it's no surprise that there's been an outcry of support for the Bake Off favorite. 

Plenty of viewers were quick to share how gutted they were that she was going home; some even begged Channel 4 to find a way to keep Saku on our TV screens in whatever way they can!

Saku's departure from the show wasn't the only major talking point, from Dessert Week, as there was an awful lot of buzz about the Technical Challenge, where every single baker served up raw treacle tarts in the allotted 90-minute time limit. 

On Twitter, the Great British Bake Off team called it 'the most disastrous challenge in Bake Off history'. And whilst some viewers were laughing at the chaos in the tent, others were left feeling very annoyed on the bakers' behalf. The general feeling? If none of them can deliver a proper pudding in that time, then that's a problem with the challenge itself, not the competitors!

The next episode of The Great British Bake Off 2023 will introduce the quarter-finalists to Party Week for the very first time. The remaining five bakers will be whipping up a sausage roll in the Signature Challenge, before tackling a chocolate cake in the Technical and dreaming up an 'anything-but-beige' buffet for their Showstoppers. Hopefully, there wont be any bungled bakes next time around!

The Great British Bake Off has been an annual highlight on our TV calendar for more than a decade, entertaining us each autumn as new batches of amateur bakers head into the famous white tent in a bid to impress judges with their baking know-how. 

But while the series has undergone numerous subtle changes over the years from moving channels to getting new presenters and judges, some viewers think the show has become half-baked. Perhaps it's even run its course?

A recent article in The Guardian claimed that The Great British Bake Off 2023 is the "dullest Bake Off ever" and is "as interesting as watching dough rise" —  but I couldn't disagree more! The show, even after fourteen seasons, still brings viewers so much joy and the threat of a baking disaster is still enough to keep us hooked. 

While the format of the show hasn't changed at all over the years, instead of becoming stale the familiarity of the show is what makes it so watchable. Each series sees a new group of bakers in the tent, bringing a fresh injection of entertainment, but this year's contestants are arguably one of the better batches the show has had. 

I have loved watching Saku slowly realizing how brilliant she is, Rowan's hilarious quips when he has a baking disaster "I’ve seen neater poos, to be honest with you" and Cristy's near meltdown over her white chocolate showstopper almost ending up in the bin. 

Alison Hammond has also brought a breath of fresh air into the tent — one that I didn't even know we needed. 

Although it was sad to see Matt Lucas leave the show, as soon as Alison was announced as his replacement I knew she would be a perfect fit for the show. 

While everyone thought she would be brilliant, no one could have predicted just how amazing her chemistry with fellow host Noel Fielding would be, and I love how one minute her famous laugh is ringing around the tent after sharing a joke with a baker, and the next she is providing a shoulder to cry on when baking disaster hits the tent.

A special mention also needs to go to the fact the show has gone back to basics after last year's questionable Mexican Week, which left fans asking if this was a baking show or just another run-of-the-mill cookery program.

But thankfully the powers that be heard the fans' complaints and this year's episodes have gone back to more traditional themes like Biscuit Week, Pastry Week and everyone's, favorite, Chocolate Week.

Stay exactly as you are Bake Off, going back to your roots this season was the perfect tonic — after all, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The Great British Bake Off 2023 airs every Tuesday at 8 pm in the UK and every Friday on Netflix in the US. 

While Pastry Week saw two popular bakers leave The Great British Bake Off 2023 tent, plenty of fans are thrilled that their favorite has survived!

After Tasha collapsed during Chocolate Week's Technical Challenge last week, the bakers were temporarily relieved to learn that no one would be going home. It was short-lived relief, of course, as Pastry Week ended with the double elimination of both Rowan and Nicky, 

Even though his picnic pies were a little messy, Rowan got some good praise in the Signature Challenge and found himself middle of the pack in the Technical, though his Signature bake let him down to the point that Prue labeled them "so awful".

Nicky, on the other hand, struggled, serving up some pork and cheese picnic pies which Nicky herself labeled "a disaster". Nicky's pithivier also saw her rank dead last in the Technical Challenge, though she did land some high praise for her Signature pies in the end. 

Fans were quick to share just how upset they were over Nicky and Rowan's departure from the show. However, that outcry was balanced by the many, many messages from fans of another baker altogether. 

From the looks of things, it seems plenty of viewers at home were watching with bated breath as Paul Hollywood briefly hinted that Saku was at risk of leaving the competition behind. 

One fan wrote: "another great episode this week. Cristy got star baker as she deserved. Rowan and Nicky have been booted off, all in all I'm just happy Saku the legend is still there!"

Another added: "The threat of Saku leaving nearly put me into despair".

A third chimed in with: "Sad to see those 2 go, but this absolute legend continues", and there were plenty more relieved fans all saying the same thing!

If you were one of the many fans devastated by the loss of Nicky and/or Rowan from this year's baking lineup, you can see them one last time in this week's edition of The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice. Along with presenters Jo Brand and Tom Allen, the bakers will be joined by comedian Ross Noble, reality star Jamie Laing, and Oti Mabuse.

The Great British Bake Off airs weekly on Tuesdays at 8 pm on Channel 4. Episodes can also be streamed on demand via the Channel 4 website.

In the US, the series airs Fridays on Netflix as The Great British Baking Show.

The makers add: "What does GBBO look for in an applicant? Top of the list is a love and passion for baking! You need to have a broader baking repertoire than just baking cakes. We all love cake but on the show there is a bread, biscuit and pastry week etc. It is important to note though that it is completely ok people haven’t made literally everything! There is always time to practice through the process and everyone has their own baking strengths and weaknesses."

They also include some tips for filling out the application. "Include as much information about you and your baking in the application as possible! We want to get a sense of who you are and what type of baker you are as well as what you have made before. Include as many photos as you can, they are a great way to show off the bakes you have made before and visually photos are always great to look at!”

If you're successful then you'll be contacted by a member of the Bake Off production team. If you’ve not heard anything by Friday, February 9, 2024, then sadly you're out of luck.

But at least you will still be able to enjoy the series! Bake Off 2023 continues on Channel 4.

The Great British Bake Off 2023 fans were left concerned after Tasha fell ill during Chocolate Week, due to hot temperatures inside the tent.

The episode started out normally, with the Signature challenge testing the bakers skills and inviting them to create chocolate tortes, showcasing flavours of their choice. We saw some classic combos like chilli, white chocolate and raspberry.

While Tasha participated in the first challenge, she started to feel ill during the Technical, telling one of the crew members that she was getting hot and needed some air.

With hot ovens and lots of people inside the tent, things started to heat up, and Tasha collapsed, almost fainting due to the temperature. She was then advised to take a break as the crew became concerned about her. 

Sadly, Tasha hadn't recovered enough to return to the challenges and was sent home for the day.

But while fans were worried, they couldn't help but notice how lovely Alison Hammond was with Tasha. Alison visited her outside of the tent to check how she was doing, and Tasha expressed her disappointment for not managing to make it through all of Chocolate Week.

She explained:  "I had a massive migraine last night. I thought I could feel better this morning."

Following the dramatic moment, fans on social media expressed their concern for Tasha, pleased that she would be returning for Pastry Week on next week's episode.

Viewers praised Alison for being "lovely" with Tasha, as the new host said: "I can see you're not well. Go home, sweetheart! Go and rest." 

In an equally dramatic turn of events, when it came to the end of the episode, Alison and Noel would usually reveal which contestant was going home, but they were left relieved when she explained that everyone would be going through to the next stage.

However, contestants will have to work extra hard during Pastry Week because there will be a double elimination to make up for the fact no one was sent home in Tasha's absence. So the competition is getting tougher!

In Pastry Week, the program has teased that they'll be expected to "showcase pie-making artistry" and "recreate a French classic".

Fans of The Great British Bake Off 2023 are going to be disappointed when they tune in tonight because instead of soggy bottoms and Hollywood handshakes, they will find England playing Italy in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying match at Wembley Stadium. 

While football fans are in for a treat, sadly Bake Off viewers are going to have to wait an extra 24 hours for their Paul and Prue fix as the fourth episode of the season airs tomorrow night, Wednesday, October 18 at 8 pm on Channel 4 instead. 

But, one thing that will reassure fans of the baking show is that this week's episode is going to be worth the wait because it is chocolate week. Hurrah! 

The episode will see the remaining contestants take on a tricky torte in the signature challenge, then a complicated cheesecake for the technical... before moving on to a showstopper to top all others when the judges ask the bakers to make a chocolate box made entirely out of, well, chocolate! 

After three weeks of drama in the famous white Bake Off tent, we have seen Amos, Keith and Abbi leave the show. Last week's episode saw Abbi struggling in the technical during Bread Week, while her cottage loaf was deemed too garlicky by Prue. 

But who will make it through to next week's show, which will see the bakers take on Pastry Week? 

Episode 5, airing on Tuesday, October, 24 will see the remaining amateur bakers take on a signature that involves making 12 individual savoury picnic pies, then a French rough puff classic for the technical and a showstopper made out of decorative sweet pies. No pressure then!

Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are back as the show’s judges. Together, these two have become fixtures in the Great British Bake Off franchise. They recently hosted The Great American Baking Show on Roku 2023 and are currently tasting a plethora of cakes, biscuits and pies on The Great British Bake Off 2023.

Zach Cherry is back to co-host the event. Cherry is a familiar face from Severance, while his voice can be heard in Duncanville as Wolf. 

Joining him this year as his partner in hosting is Casey Wilson. She is quite the comedic actress who is instantly recognizable for her work in projects like Happy Endings, Bride Wars, History of the World: Part II, Grace & Frankie and Black Monday.

The Great British Bake Off 2023 returned to Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 26 and the final aired in the UK on Tuesday, November 28.

In the US all episodes of The Great British Baking Show 2023 are now on Netflix along with all episodes of last year's show.

Here are a few facts about each of the 2023 contestants, including who left when, who won Star Baker and who was crowned this year's winner...

Abbi — eliminated week 3

Abbi, 27, is a veg grower and delivery driver from Cumbria.

Yorkshire-born Abbi first learned to bake alongside her mum. She honed these early skills during her teens, when she became enthralled by the Victorian era, especially the traditional bakes of the time. Now, she takes her inspiration from her environment and the beautiful English countryside around her home and even forages for ingredients in nature to make her bakes extra special.

Abbi went home in week three after Bread Week saw her struggling in the technical, while her cottage loaf was deemed too garlicky by Prue. 

Amos — eliminated week 1

Amos, 43, is a deli and grocery manager from North London.

A film, theatre and theme parker lover, Amos was amazed by his mother's ability to whip up delicious baked goods, inspiring to him to take up baking. He describes his own treats as "a labour of love".

Sadly Amos was the first baker to be sent home in the series. Cake Week saw Amos struggle with his killer whale-themed showstopper, and unfortunately, the judges decided he should be the first to leave. 

Cristy — eliminated week 8

Cristy, 33, is a mum and PA from East London.

Mother-of-four Cristy is always finding a reason to bake with events for kids around every corner, drawing inspiration from her Israeli roots and her husband's Jamaican heritage. She describes her baking style as enchanted and pretty – bakes that conjure up a sense of childhood.

Cristy was crowned Star Baker in Pastry Week after wowing Paul and Prue with her autumnal showstopper. 

Cristy left the show in the quarter-finals after struggling with her Willy Wonka-themed showstopper for party week. She was a firm favorite with the judges and viewers though, with even Prue admitting she was sad to see Cristy leave.

Dan — finalist 

Dan, 42, is a civil engineer from Cheshire.

A trip to South America in 2007 completely opened up Dan's eyes to different baking styles around the world, and when he's not playing football with his two young sons, he's busy in the kitchen. His particular loves are pies and puddings. Before he and his wife bought their first home, they lived with his in-laws. During this time, his mother-in-law taught him how to make perfect shortcrust pastry. Subsequently, his passion for pies has evolved into a penchant for patisserie!

Dan won Star Baker in week one after impressing the judges with all three of his bakes, including an amazing tribute cake to his late dog, Bruno. He also got Star Baker in week 7 after creating a meringue bombe shaped like the world. 

Speaking of getting to the final, Dan told us: "I’ve worked hard to make it this far. It’s special. I have loved meeting the other bakers. What a bunch! I’m proud of the enjoyment we provided as a group.

Dan also revealed which bakes stand out for him... "The Dessert Week Showstopper [a meringue bombe], I failed so many times to get it right, but it came good! But in Bread Week, I over-thought the Showstopper [a plaited centerpiece] and changed my plan – a big no-no!"

And what are his plans for after Bake Off? "I’d love to pursue a food career and help kids learn life skills. Baking classes are on the radar too!"

Dan was runner-up in the Bake Off final after his Showstopper was pipped to the post by Matty. 

Dana — eliminated week 6

Dana, 25, is a database administrator from Essex.

Originally inspired to bake to help fill a gap in her family's Indian culinary repertoire, Dana has become her family's trusted cake maker for any celebration. A self-professed "untidy baker", Dana would sneak off to her dad's house to experiment. Now, she has her own kitchen, and a cockapoo, Gracie, to clean up after her!

Sadly Dana was sent home in Botanicals Week after the flavours in her impressive showstopper failed to impress the judges. 

Josh — finalist 

Josh, 27, is a post-doctoral research associate from Leicestershire.

A chemist by trade, Josh always tries to approach a bake with scientific acumen and loves using seasonal fruit and vegetables from his own garden. He likes to take his inspiration from old baking books: reinventing classics to give them a modern twist.

Josh was awarded with a Hollywood Handshake in week 2 after creating an incredible burger and fries illusion out of biscuits. 

He was crowned Star Baker in Botanicals Week after impressing the judges with his flavours. In the same week, he also came second in the technical, which saw him bake an impressive lemon and thyme drizzle cake. Josh also got Star Baker in the semi-finals after impressing the judges with his patisserie skills. 

Speaking of getting to the final Josh told us: "It feels incredible, I was shocked! From baking alongside talented bakers to Paul and Prue’s lovely comments, it’s been unbelievable.

Speaking of his baking highs and lows, Josh added: "My favourite bakes were the Party Week Christmas buffet Showstopper – my nickname’s Dr Christmas, no one can out-Christmas me! – and my sunflower pies Showstopper [in Pastry Week] dedicated to my late Nan. But my chemistry chocolate box Showstopper [in Chocolate Week] didn’t have a clean finish."

Josh has big plans for after Bake Off: "I want to showcase my baking via social media, write baking books and share gardening and baking tips."

Runner-up Josh was pipped to the post in the final, with Matty nudging ahead with his impressing showstopper cake.

Keith - eliminated week 2 

Keith, 60, is a chartered accountant from Hampshire.

After originally testing his baking skills on apple pies and fairy cakes with his mum as a child, Keith takes inspiration from 1970s cookbooks and hopes this competition will help him increase the complexity of his bakes.

Sadly Keith was the second baker to be sent home after he suffered a slightly messy biscuit week. Despite delivering bakes packed with flavor, his 'meal deal' biscuit showstopper wasn't enough to save him. 

Matty — winner! 

Matty, 28, is a PE and science teacher from Cambridgeshire.

A keen watcher of viral cooking videos, Matty hopes to master the techniques showcased on social networks like TikTok and make the cake for his wedding to fiancée Lara. Matty is the type of baker who swats up on online patisserie videos before bed and no matter how good he gets, he strives to equal the impressiveness of the bake that first caught his imagination: a teddy bear cake that his late nan made him for his fourth birthday. 

Matty was crowned Star Baker in week four after impressing the judges during Chocolate Week. 

Speaking of getting to the final, Matty told us: "I can’t believe it, especially after that grey ‘roadkill’ (thanks Paul!) dog [his animal Showstopper cake] in week one!"

Talking of his time on the show, he added: "The baking comes second to the fun I had in the tent. And I’ve learned to have more confidence. I loved the chocolate cheesecake Technical [in Chocolate Week]. I ‘inhaled’ so many after judging! But the only time the meringue bombe [in Dessert Week] worked was the day of the Showstopper!"

And what are Matty's plans after Bake Off? "To test myself with bakes outside my comfort zone but without insane time pressures! I’d bake anything for Mark Noble. He’s a legend of West Ham!"

Matty was thrilled to be crowned winner of the 2023 series after nudging ahead of Josh and Dan after the trio were tasked with a choux pastry signature, a lard cake technical challenge and a celebration cake showstopper.

Matty thrilled the judges with his impressive showstopper, which was a three-tiered cake, with Paul admitting it was one of the best sponges he'd eaten in years. 

Nicky — eliminated week 5

Nicky, 52, is a retired cabin crew member from the West Midlands.

Describing the process of baking as being "like a pair of comfy old slippers", Nicky loves spending her free time baking for her niece and grandchildren, and volunteers for a pet charity.

Rowan — eliminated week 5

Rowan, 21, is a student from West Yorkshire.

The youngest contestant in the tent this year wants to follow his motto "go big or go home" by using his creative eye in coming up with his baking submissions and maybe even match them with cocktail pairings.

Saku — eliminated week 7

Saku, 50, is an intelligence analyst from Herefordshire.

Although she didn't have an oven at home until the age of 18, Saku shortly thereafter developed a passion for baking. She uses the traditional flavours from her native Sri Lankan culture – particularly the curry spices, which she claims make for the best pie fillings, while liberal sprinklings of cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg find their way into her sweeter bakes.

Saku sadly left the show in Dessert Week after the judges said her creme caramels were too sweet, none of the bakers managed to serve up some proper treacle tarts in the Technical Round and her bee-themed Showstopper meringue bombe looked pretty, but the judges found several faults. 

Tasha — eliminated week 9

Tasha, 27, is a participation officer from Bristol.

She makes history as the show's first-ever deaf contestant.

The best thing Tasha remembers about baking as a child was licking the sugar icing from the tops of the fairy cakes she, her mum and her grandma used to make. At secondary school, she made cakes for her friends and was soon encouraged by her Food Technology teacher to develop her skills as a hobby. When Tasha's not in the kitchen, loves attending West End musicals.

Tasha was awarded Star Baker in week two after her biscuits wowed the judges. Not only did she do well on the custard cream technical, but she also impressed Paul and Prue with her katsu curry biscuit illusion. 

She was also awarded Star Baker in week three after her medusa-themed bread showstopper wowed the judges.

The Great British Bake Off 2023 judges

The Great British Bake Off wouldn't be the same without original judge Paul Hollywood and his infamous handshake, and he is back once again for the fourteenth season of the show. 

Joining Paul once again is Prue Leith who has also become a much-loved part of the show since it arrived on Channel 4.

The Great British Bake Off is filmed in a beautiful part of the Berkshire countryside called Welford Park, where the white marquee is positioned amongst trees, a beautiful manicured lawn and local wildlife. 

Who won The Great British Bake Off 2022?

The Great British Bake Off 2022 crowned Syabira the winner after she went head-to-head with Abdul and Sandro in the final. 

The trio were asked to assemble the perfect picnic for the signature challenge and create a Summer Pudding Bombe for the technical, and for the final challenge, the bakers had to make a sculpture in line with the theme of Our Beautiful Planet, with Syabira impressing the judges with an orangutang which she named This Is My Home. 

Speaking about why Syabira won the series judge Prue Leith said: "She is creative and she is careful, she practices like anything and she is imaginative, she just has the lot. She is a very skillful baker."

The Great British Bake Off 2023 (or The Great British Baking Show if you are in the US) has aired the final and we now have a new name on our Great British Bake Off winners list.

The Great British Bake Off 2023 is here and judge Prue Leith has shared some behind-the-scenes details, including how Noel Fielding has commandeered a golf cart to help him get around.

This year, we're welcoming 12 new Great British Bake Off contestants to the tent who'll be under the watchful eyes of judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, alongside host Noel Fielding and newcomer Alison Hammond.

But while the bakes take center stage in this mouthwatering competition, Noel's interesting choice of transport has had everyone on set in stitches, and apparently, he often gets distracted "whizzing around" in it with his new co-host.

Speaking to OK Magazine, Prue explained: “We have a little buggy that goes all over. Noel, who cannot drive a car, is terrific in the buggy! 

"He and Alison, they’re like a couple of teenagers. Often, they’re having a lovely time whizzing around the park and we’re waiting for them to get on with Bake Off!”

Following Matt Lucas' departure, Alison Hammond is co-presenting but was left confused when the producers drove her to a garden centre as part of the recruitment process.

She revealed: "I was like, what are we doing here? They told me they wanted to see me interview people. So I had to interview people at the garden centre who were just shopping.

“Afterwards, I asked, have I got the job, and they hadn’t decided yet. Eventually, my agent phoned me and started to play the Bake Off music.”

There's plenty to look forward to when Bake Off returns tonight, as well as fan favorites, OK Magazine also revealed that there'll be a botanicals, chocolate, and party week to keep the bakers on their toes, hoping to stay on theme and keep the judges happy.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges involves chocolate, where the bakers have to work quickly to ensure it doesn't melt, so let's hope there's not too much carnage with that one!

Teasing the chocolate challenge, Prue revealed: "They had to make an edible chocolate box cake. The box had to have sides, a bottom and a removable lid and it had to be filled. It was a really difficult challenge, but they all did pretty well."

Abbi — eliminated week 3

Yorkshire-born Abbi first learned to bake alongside her mum, honing those early skills during her teens, when she became enthralled by the Victorian era and especially the traditional bakes of the time – steamed puddings, fruit cakes and more. Now she takes her inspiration from her environment and the beautiful English countryside around her home. 

A lover of the great outdoors, she forages for seasonal ingredients – the bigger and bolder, the better – and puts her homegrown veg to good use. Abbi’s bakes aim to combine comfort and familiarity with a strong nod towards nature, and a feeling of creating something magical – bakes with a touch of fairytale!

Abbi went home in week three after Bread Week saw her struggling in the technical, while her cottage loaf was deemed too garlicky by Prue.

Amos — eliminated week 1

Film and theatre enthusiast, theme-park lover and hospitality professional, Amos grew up in Nottingham with his mum and sister, but now lives and works in North London. As a child, Amos was always amazed by his mum’s ability to whip up delicious bakes at a moment’s notice – making her both the inspiration and the role model for his own commitment to some serious baking. 

Amos describes his bakes as a labour of love – his style is colourful and chic with keen attention to detail, and he loves exploring different flavour profiles. He compares his baking style to the converted church that he now lives in, calling both his style and home ‘traditional with a modern twist’.

Sadly Amos was the first baker to be sent home in the series. Cake Week saw Amos struggle with his killer whale-themed showstopper, and unfortunately, the judges decided he should be the first to leave. 

Cristy — eliminated week 8

Life with four children means that, for Cristy, there always seems to be a birthday to bake for and an exciting party to plan. She describes her baking style as enchanted and pretty – bakes that conjure up a sense of childhood. Cakes are her speciality, and she draws flavour inspiration from her own Israeli heritage and from her husband’s Jamaican roots. 

She is a dab hand with decoration and gets a thrill out of making sure the results look perfect. When she’s not organising a celebration, you can find her having an outdoor adventure, letting her hair down with her friends, or solving a Rubik’s cube – in under 4 minutes!

Cristy was crowned Star Baker in Pastry Week after wowing Paul and Prue with her autumnal showstopper.

Cristy left the show in the quarter-finals after struggling with her Willy Wonka-themed showstopper for party week. She was a firm favorite with the judges and viewers though, with even Prue admitting she was sad to see Cristy leave. 

Dan — finalist 

Dan’s interest in cooking began when he went traveling in South America in 2007. His particular loves are pies and puddings: before he and his wife bought their first home, they lived with his in-laws, during which time his mother-in-law taught him how to make perfect shortcrust pastry. 

Subsequently, his passion for pies has evolved into a penchant for patisserie! Perfectionist Dan loves a baking challenge and will often find the hardest bake in one of his many (more than 300!) cookbooks and start there, throwing everything he’s got at creating a masterpiece. When he’s not baking, he loves to play football with his two young sons, work out in the gym, or forage for edible treats in the countryside around his home.

Dan won Star Baker in week one after impressing the judges with all three of his bakes, including an amazing tribute cake to his late dog, Bruno. He also got Star baker in week 7 after creating a meringue bombe shaped like the world.

Dana — eliminated week 6

Dana’s passion for baking started at the age of 16 when she identified a gap in her family’s traditional Indian culinary repertoire. As a self-professed untidy baker, Dana would avoid stepping on her mum’s toes in the kitchen by catching the bus to her dad’s house to indulge her need to experiment with her bakes. Now she has a kitchen of her own (and a cockapoo, Gracie, to clean up after her), Dana has become the family’s go-to celebration cake-maker. 

Her style is rustic and homely, but always pleasing to the eye. She loves a semi-naked cake with neat lines, pretty piping and minimalist decoration; and although she likes to keep her flavours safe, Dana will often incorporate a twist or two, adding in familiar spices associated with her Indian heritage.

Sadly Dana was sent home in Botanicals Week after the flavours in her impressive showstopper failed to impress the judges.

Josh — finalist

Josh is a chemist by trade and brings his scientist’s precision and keenness to experiment into the kitchen, taking careful notes on each part of the baking process and perfecting all his techniques for gorgeous results. He likes to take his inspiration from old baking books, reinventing classics to give them a modern twist, often by introducing alternative flavours and including the seasonal fruit and vegetables from his kitchen garden. 

Josh has been playing rugby for his local team for more than 15 years, and once a month he bakes lots of treats to reward his teammates after a rigorous training session. He dreams of having his own artisan bakery one day.

Josh was awarded with a Hollywood Handshake in week 2 after creating an incredible burger and fries illusion out of biscuits.

He was also crowned Star Baker in Botanicals Week after impressing the judges with his flavours. In the same week, he also came second in the technical, which saw him bake an impressive lemon and thyme drizzle cake.

Keith — eliminated week 2

Apple pies and fairy cakes – which he learned to bake with his mum – form the baking backdrop to Keith’s childhood, along with his mum’s love for traditional dishes from her home in Malta. Since those formative years, Keith has never stopped baking. Recently, though, he has returned to the baking books of the early 1970s to attempt recipes that were once ‘beyond’ him. 

He loves the challenge of taking on more complex bakes and has grown in confidence with bread. His partner, Sue, has got very used to waking up to the smell of a freshly baked loaf! They live with their poodle, Maisie, just a few steps from the sea.

Sadly Keith was the second baker to be sent home after he suffered a slightly messy biscuit week. Despite delivering bakes packed with flavor, his 'meal deal' biscuit showstopper wasn't enough to save him.

Matty — finalist

Matty is the type of baker who swats up on online patisserie videos before bed. No matter how good he gets, though, he strives to equal the impressiveness of the bake that first caught his imagination: a teddy-bear cake that his late nan made him for his fourth birthday. Now the family’s designated baker, he always has a list of cake requests for upcoming celebrations. 

He describes his style as rustic but neat, and his flavour preferences as quite traditional – he particuarly loves chocolate, citrus and nuts. Once his days in the tent are over, his next – and even bigger – challenge will be to make his own wedding cake, a special commission from his fiancée, Lara.

Matty won Star Baker in week four after impressing Paul and Prue in Chocolate Week. 

Nicky — eliminated week 5

Nicky describes her baking as ‘like a pair of comfy old slippers; little traditional bakes that evoke fond memories’. For Nicky herself, those memories are of her Gran’s kitchen table where, as a little girl, she would roll out pastries and decorate cakes – which she says was as much fun then as all her baking is to her now. Her favourite bakes are still pastries, but she also loves making breads, and fun birthday cakes for her niece and grandchildren. 

When she’s not baking, Nicky volunteers for a pet-therapy charity (along with her dog, Bracken) and loves to ski, which she has been doing since she was only three years old.

Rowan — eliminated week 5

‘Go big, or go home’ is Rowan’s motto, and one that he has always applied to his bakes. His earliest baking memories are of scones, pork pies, shortbread and traditional jam tarts (which he claims as a Northern delicacy). A student of English literature, when he’s not writing up a storm, Rowan is also a keen host, applying his creative eye to his cooking – he aims for clean lines and interesting decoration in his finished bakes. 

Just like his much-admired, knock-out cocktail-making skills, Rowan expresses his grand, opulent side in his bakes, wowing his uni friends with his creations. He made his own 21st birthday cake – a three-tier, 12-layer extravaganza.

Saku — eliminated in week 7

Sri Lankan-born Saku places the traditional flavours of her heritage at the heart of her baking – particularly the curry spices, which she claims make for the best pie fillings, while liberal sprinklings of cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg find their way into her sweeter bakes.

At her family home in Sri Lanka, Saku didn’t have an oven until she was 18, so she turned to baking only when she moved with her husband to the UK, in 2003, and particularly when she became a mum – rustling up treats for her children’s lunchboxes by replicating the snacks she saw in the supermarket. Self-taught, she is now a dab hand with a whisk and relishes using her homegrown ingredients from her pride and joy – her vegetable patch.

Saku sadly left the show in Dessert Week after the judges said her creme caramels were too sweet, none of the bakers managed to serve up some proper treacle tarts in the Technical Round and her bee-themed Showstopper meringue bombe looked pretty, but the judges found several faults. 

Tasha — eliminated week 9

The best thing Tasha remembers about baking as a child was licking the sugar icing from the tops of the fairy cakes she, her mum and her grandma used to make. At secondary school, she made cakes for her friends and was soon encouraged by her Food Technology teacher to develop her skills as a hobby. 

Much like her attitude to life, Tasha’s baking is fearless. She uses it as a way to express herself creatively, often embarking upon near-impossible designs – with impressive results! When she’s not baking, Tasha loves going to the theatre to see a West End show and she has a passion for traveling the world.

Tasha was awarded Star Baker in week two after her biscuits wowed the judges. Not only did she do well on the custard cream technical, but she also impressed Paul and Prue with her katsu curry biscuit illusion.

She was also awarded Star Baker in week three after her medusa-themed bread showstopper wowed the judges.

Put on your aprons because The Great British Bake Off 2023 is back with a new batch of bakers all hoping to wow the judges and earn themselves the coveted title of Star Baker. 

The Great British Bake Off judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will be returning once again for the fourteenth season of the show — and Channel 4 has now confirmed that the new series will return on Tuesday, September 26 at 8pm. In the US The Great British Baking Show will air on Netflix with a release date yet to be revealed.

Also returning is host Noel Fielding — but this time he won't be joined by Matt Lucas as he stepped down from the role to focus on other TV projects.

Following Matt's departure, The Great British Bake Off announced that This Morning presenter Alison Hammond will be the show's new co-host.

Alison announced the news of her latest role on Instagram, posting: "It’s Official!! It’s happening The Great British Bake Off! Let’s have it — The cake that is. So excited."

She also shared a video featuring a cake in the shape of the classic Bake Off kitchen with sugar models of Alison alongside Prue, Paul and Noel.

In a voiceover, she said: "This is breaking news, Alison Hammond is joining the team of The Great British Bake Off. I'm just absolutely thrilled. I'm going to be meeting the bakers very soon. I'm joining The Great British Bake Off. I'm so very excited."

Earlier this year, judge Prue revealed on the Dish podcast that she hopes Alison's addition to the show will see them going easy on the number of innuendos.

Speaking on the episode, Prue admitted: "I never get the jokes. All this stuff about innuendo and things. I feel I’m really glad Alison’s coming because at least she’s a woman and she’ll be a little more sensible."

A winner from The Great British Bake Off has just landed a new series with a big US network that will see her hitting the road and using her baking expertise to help some struggling businesses. 

2014's Great British Bake Off (also known as The Great British Baking Show if you are in the US) winner Nancy Birtwhistle is heading to the United States to film a new series called The Great American Bakeover. 

The unscripted series will see the star baker traveling across the US and visiting a variety of struggling stores to give them a much need makeover in an effort to prevent them from having to close up shop.

A synopsis for the series reads: "The Great American Bakeover follows struggling bakeries all over the country that are having a tough time keeping their doors open. Baker Nancy Birtwhistle is traveling to each small-town storefront to give them a much-needed bakeover to save them from bakeruptcy." (via Deadline).

A release date for The Great American Bakeover has not been confirmed at the time of writing. 

Nancy Birtwhistle was the winner of the show's fifth series when the show was still being broadcast on the BBC. A grandmother and retired GP practice manager from Hull, Nancy has described taking part in The Great British Bake Off as the most difficult but most enjoyable experience of her life. The Great British Bake Off will return to Channel 4 in autumn with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, though there's been a change on the hosting front. 

After three seasons on Channel 4, Matt Lucas revealed he was stepping back from Bake Off last year, meaning Noel Fielding would be joined by a new co-presenter for the next series.

Paul Hollywood is a world-renowned baker and celebrity chef and best known for being the only original judge on the hit series The Great British Bake Off (or The Great British Baking Show if you are in the US).

Now Paul and his fellow GBBO judge Dame Prue Leith are back giving their expert opinion on bakes for The Great British Bake Off 2024. 

The third generation of bakers in his family, Paul started out as an apprentice in his father's shop and this year marks his 40th in the industry. 

Knowing his brioche from his bagels, Paul is notoriously hard to impress — those piercing blue eyes can spot a soggy bottom from a mile off and his legendary 'Hollywood handshake' is only reserved for a lucky few. 

But there's far more to Paul than just being the Bake Off pantomime villain. 

Here are a few facts about him you may not know...

Baking was in Paul Hollywood's blood

Paul John Hollywood was born on 1 March, 1966 in Wallasey, Cheshire to parents John and Gillian and is one of three boys.

Raised above his father's bakery, Paul was always destined for a career in dough. “I remember disappearing downstairs and nicking iced buns and all sorts," he told Love Food. "My dad always smelled of bread when he came in, always covered in flour. That was then attached to me for many years. It became part of my DNA.”

Paul was a pupil at The Mosslands School in Wallasey Village and trained as a sculptor after he left school. Then at 17, his dad offered him £500 to quit art college and join the family chain of bakeries called Bread Winner.

Paul chose the money, but his new job didn't get off to the best of starts...

In a chat with The Guardian he revealed: "When I started baking, my dad had me cleaning the loos for six months. I started literally at the bottom!"

Paul's career rose to new heights very quickly

Having started out at his dad's shop in York, by his early twenties, Paul was managing a bakery by himself. From then on, there was no stopping him. 

The ambitious Hollywood went on to become head baker at some of the country's most prestigious hotels — including The Dorchester, Chester Grosvenor and Spa and the Clivedon.

Paul then swapped the UK for the sunny climes of Cyprus and worked at of the island's luxury resorts. 

After returning home, he launched the Paul Hollywood Artisan Bread Company and started attracting the attention of TV producers. This led to guest appearances on shows such as BBC One's The Generation Game, ITV's This Morning and The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

Bake Off made him a household name

In 2010, Paul got the call to become a judge on new BBC program The Great British Bake Off. His partnership with fellow judge, national treasure Dame Mary Berry was an instant hit with millions of viewers and turned Paul into an overnight celebrity.

He's the only on-screen member of the Bake Off to have been with the show since its launch, making the jump from BBC to Channel 4 in 2017.

Paul now critiques contestant's bakes alongside Dame Prue Leith but has admitted he'd have to "think very, very hard" if he was offered his original GBBO gig now because of the scrutiny it's put on his private life.

In an interview with Scala Radio he shared: “Obviously, I love the program, it is one of the best jobs I’ve ever done... but you are watched under a microscope, unfairly so. I find that really difficult because I’m quite a private person."

He added: “There is no school that tells you how to deal with being in the public eye. And however much you think you’re not going to change, it’s impossible to stay the same."

He has found love twice 

Paul met his former wife Alexandra during the time he was a head baker at a five-star hotel in Cyprus. Alexandra also worked at the resort as a scuba diving instructor.

They got hitched on the island in 1997, and share a son called Josh but split at a later date. 

Paul is now married to Melissa Spalding after first meeting at her pub The Chequers Inn back in 2019. The pair got married in September 2023 in Cyprus.

He has a side career as a racing driver

Paul describes himself as a full-time baker and a part-time racing driver. His career in the fast lane began in 2015 when he made his debut in the Beechdean AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT4 with fellow racer Andrew Howard. 

Paul finished first in class at the GT Cup and at the Dunlop endurance race at Silverstone in July 2017. Later that year he completed his first 24-hour race at the Circuit of the Americas, coming second. He's also raced on the fearsome Nürburgring track in Germany. 

“I’m passionate about it," Paul explained in an interview with Radio Times. "Because when the boss says ‘Your lap times are good’, it is Paul Hollywood who did it, not the baker, me.” 

He prefers home comforts

Last year, Paul starred in Channel 4 culinary series, Paul Hollywood Eats Mexico. The three-parter followed him on an adventure exploring the country's culture and history through its authentic cuisine.

Paul threw himself into the experience, sampling fresh cactus, the country's hottest chilli and the perfect taco. He even tried the local delicacy of baked Tarantula, before concluding it had 'no flavour'. 

But despite having enjoyed cuisines from all over the world, not to mention thousands of fancy cakes and bakes, Paul likes to stay true to his Liverpudlian roots.

“I'm more of a hearty baker. Give me a sausage roll and a doughnut and I'm happy," he told Love Food. The humble iced bun is also high up on Paul's list of favourites.

He created the most expensive bread in Britain

Once upon a time, well in 2008 to be precise, Paul created a bread that was said to be the most expensive in Britain.

His almond and Roquefort sourdough loaf was made using grade A flour from a miller in Wiltshire, while the Roquefort cheese was supplied by a specialist in France, costing a whopping £15 per kilo.

The finished product was sold in the swanky department store Harrods, and Paul described it as being the 'Rolls-Royce of loaves'. Now that is what you call sheer luxury!

Dame Prue Leith became a household name as a judge on The Great British Bake Off (or The Great British Baking Show if you are in the US) but has been working in the food industry for over six decades.

The multi-talented star is an accomplished chef, restaurateur, campaigner, TV and radio presenter, cookbook writer, author, designer and businesswoman, and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Prue is best known for appearing on Bake Off alongside fellow judge Paul Hollywood but she also has her own show, Prue Leith's Cotswold Kitchen season 2, where she and her husband John welcome famous faces into their country home to sample some of their favourite dishes.

But what else is there to know about the woman behind the colorful specs? Let us fill you in...

Dame Prue Leith was born and bred in South Africa

Prue was born Prudence Margaret Leith on 18 February 1940 in Cape Town, South Africa. Her father, Sam Leith, worked for African Explosives producing dynamite for mines, and her mother, Margaret 'Peggy' Inglis, was a well-known actress of her time. Prue has a brother, ex-restaurateur James Leith, who's six years her junior.

Between the ages of 5 to 17, Prue was a pupil at St Mary's School, Waverley, a private all-girls boarding school in Johannesburg, which was run by Anglican nuns.

After leaving school, she attended the University of Cape Town but didn't take to any of the courses she signed up for. 

Unsure of what she wanted to do in life, Prue persuaded her parents to allow her to attend the Sorbonne (which was formally known as the University of Paris). It was during her time in France she set her heart on pursuing a career in the culinary field. 

She's a Cordon Bleu trained chef

Following her move to London in 1960, Prue began her training at the renowned Cordon Bleu Cookery School. After completing her studies she started her own catering company, Leith's Good Food, supplying food for parties and other fancy events. 

Prue's career quickly went from strength to strength and in 1969, she opened Leith's, her Michelin-starred restaurant in Notting Hill, which she eventually sold in 1995.

Prue has also founded two cookery schools. The first was Leith's School of Food and Wine, which she launched in 1975 and sold in 1993. Two years later, she set up the Prue Leith College in South Africa, which has since been renamed Prue Leith Chef's Academy.

She's worked as a TV judge before

Prue is famed for her firm but fair critique and has brought her trademark vigour and vim to the iconic Great British Bake Off. But what some might not know is that it's not the first time she's been a TV judge.

She had an 11 year stint as a judge on cooking contest show The Great British Menu, working alongside Matthew Fort and Oliver Peyton, before bowing out in 2016 saying it was "time for a change".

Prue also gave her expert opinion on Channel 4's My Kitchen Rules, but left when she accepted the gig on Bake Off.

She a hugely successful businesswoman

Dame Prue has a great brain for business.

She's acted as a non-executive director for multiple organizations, including British Rail, Safeway, British Transport Hotels, Woolworths plc and Halifax.

Prue used to be the Chair of the Royal Society of Arts and was responsible for the decision to put a sculpture on the fourth plinth in London's Trafalgar Square — which she told The Guardian is her 'greatest ever achievement'.

Discussing the art project on BBC Breakfast, Prue said: “I’m such a bossy woman and I just interfere when I think that things need fixing and it bugged me that the plinth had been empty for 150 years. So I started a campaign to get it done."

After five years of graft and going through 13 committees, delighted Prue got her wish, and the plinth now houses changing sculptures or installations by contemporary artists.

She's a published author, many times over

Prue has packed an extraordinary amount into her illustrious career - including writing no fewer than 12 cookery books.

These include her latest offering, Bliss on Toast: 75 Recipes and her first vegetarian cookbook, which was published during lockdown in collaboration with her niece, Peta Leith, a former pastry chef at The Ivy. In 2013 she published her memoirs, titled Relish.

Prue continues to be an in-demand journalist. She's been a food columnist for national newspapers, including The Guardian, Sunday Express and Daily Mail, and has written extensively for glossy magazines.

But that's not all. Prue has also penned seven fiction novels, three of which form the 'Food of Love' trilogy.

She has found love twice

When Prue was just 21 she embarked on a 13-year relationship with the South African author and property developer, Rayne Kruger. However, their relationship had to be kept under wraps because Rayne was the husband of Prue's mother's best friend. 

In an extract from her autobiography Relish: My Life On A Plate, Prue revealed: "Was it difficult? Terribly. We kept it a secret for 13 years. But it was also thrilling — and deeply fulfilling."

The couple eventually married in October 1974, just two days before Prue gave birth to their son, Daniel. Prue and Rayne also had a daughter, Li-Da, who they adopted as a 16-month-old from her native Cambodia. 

Their marriage lasted until Rayne's death in 2002, and Prue has since found happiness with her second husband, former fashion designer John Playfair.

She's a very keen gardener

Not only is Prue a dab hand in the kitchen, she is also rather green-fingered. 

The star's love of planting and pruning began 50 years ago when she moved her young family out to the countryside and slowly started to develop her own outdoor paradise.

“I started to learn the difference between an oak and ash, a petunia and a dahlia, and then I got absolutely hooked on it," she revealed to House and Garden.

Prue's husband John also shares her passion, and in 2021 the couple allowed TV cameras to film their own horticultural adventure. The Channel 4 mini-series Prue's Garden Plot followed Prue and John as they designed and created their own garden. 

She's the recipient of prestigious honours

You'd be hard pushed to find a TV judge more highly decorated than Prue. 

She has been awarded 13 honorary degrees or fellowships from universities across the UK, and in July 2017 she was installed as the Chancellor of Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

Prue received three honours from the late Queen Elizabeth II. In 1989 she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), followed by a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) a decade later.

Then in the Queen's 2021 Birthday Honours, Prue received the highest accolade of them all when she was made a Dame.

She loves her costume jewellery

Rainbow bright necklaces have become something of a signature style for Prue, and she's definitely not snobby about where her bold accessories come from. In fact, the cheaper, the better!

"I’m obsessed with cheap necklaces, I don’t like expensive ones. I buy them from all over the world, from market stalls, on the streets and on beaches," Prue shared in a chat with You magazine.

"Your necklace and glasses, are right in people’s line of sight, so I think it’s perfectly reasonable to have hundreds of necklaces and dozens of glasses."

Prue, who says her upbringing in vibrant South Africa inspired her love of color, even co-created her own jewelry line with Lola Rose for QVC.

In some fantastic news, The Great British Bake Off is opening everyone’s favorite white tent to nine amateur bakers from America in The Great American Baking Show. The spinoff series, a reboot of the previous American iteration that was on ABC, has a new home on The Roku Channel, following in the footsteps of the streamer’s recent The Great American Baking Show Celebrity Holiday that debuted last December. 

With this new installment of the show, viewers get to watch as a tech entrepreneur, a digital illustrator, a Spanish tutor and more do what they can to be crowned the ultimate star baker, and impress the legendary judges from The Great British Bake Off, Paul Hollywood and Pure Leith. 

So just who are the bakers under the tent? Meet the nine contestants of The Great American Baking Show.

Martin Sorge

Martin Sorge is a resident of Chicago and is the former executive director of the Uptown Chamber of Commerce. He currently runs his own consulting firm. Sorge's Instagram leads us to believe he may have a leg up in the competition when it comes to Bread Week, as he's posted several pictures of his homemade loaves on the platform.  

Nirali Chauhan  

Also from Chicago is Nirali Chauhan. She actually found time to bake while being a med school student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. While she has several baked goods displayed across her Instagram account, we noticed she tends to post a lot of cookies. 

Sarah Chang  

Rounding out the Chicagoans is Sarah Chang. She also is in pursuit of a profession in the medical field as a nursing student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. When speaking with Block Club Chicago about her and fellow Chicago contestants, she stated, "I hope that we represent the city really well."

Stacie Nakamoto   

Dr. Stacie Nakamoto is a biochemist and faculty member at UCLA. She is also the co-host of The Bakers' Notebook, a home-baking podcast. Her social media shows a bit of everything, signaling she's well-versed in the realm of baking. 

Dyana O'Brien   

Dyana O'Brien boasts of being a "bulldog mama" and "rockabilly singer." (For those wondering, rockabilly is a rock and roll style of music that blends dynamics of country music — think Elvis). She also may be a favorite during Bread Week as her Instagram is full of loaf creations. 

Susan Simpson  

The wife, mother and grandmother is no novice to baking competitions. In 2021, she was the winner of the Sweet Bread/Rolls category in the Adult Division of the Virtual National Festival of Breads. Simpson's Instagram is a testament to the wealth of experience she brings to the competition. 

Karis Stucker  

Karis Stucker shared with The Charlotte Observer that she partially credits The Great British Bake Off for teaching her the baking skills she possesses today. She was an avid watcher of the show with her mom. In addition to operating her own cakery, she also runs a private Spanish tutoring business. Even if we didn't know Stucker runs a cakery, her social media certainly tells the story of her cake-making expertise. 

Jonathan Gottfried  

Jonathan Gottfried is a tech entrepreneur and self-professed "hacker." He is the co-founder of an official student hackathon league that helps "cultivate communities and teach computer science skills to more than 500,000 developers" across the globe. Checking out his Instagram, we were immediately drawn to his impressive mirror glaze skills. 

Sean Liu

Sean Liu is a digital illustrator which seemingly gives him an advantage when it comes to the presentation of his desserts. Even his Instagram account showcasing his baked goods is nothing short of impressive when it comes to aesthetics.

Paul Hollywood became a household name as a judge of The Great British Bake Off. He's been a staple of the show since 2010. Hollywood has also been seen in The Great American Baking Show Celebrity Holiday and Paul Hollywood's Pies and Puds.  

Prue Leith

Prue Leith is also well-known for her time on The Great British Bake Off, having joined the show in 2017. Before then, she served as a judge on the Great British Menu and can be seen on My Kitchen Rules and Junior Bake Off.

Ellie Kemper

Ellie Kemper is a familiar face to those who love The Office, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt or Bridesmaids. Respectively she starred in each as Erin, Kimmy and Becca. Kemper was most recently seen in Home Sweet Home Alone and co-hosted The Great American Baking Show Celebrity Holiday. 

Zach Cherry

Zach Cherry was the other host of The Great American Baking Show Celebrity Holiday. Prior to this, he was flexing his acting chops in things like Severance and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Bake Off judge Prue Leith has spoken about new host Alison Hammond, revealing what she hopes she'll bring to the table.

Following Matt Lucas' departure earlier this year, This Morning legend Alison Hammond was named as the new presenter, co-starring alongside Noel Fielding.

Appearing on the Dish podcast alongside Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, the seasoned judge of The Great British Bake Off 2022 and The Great American Baking Show revealed that she hopes Alison's addition to the show will see them going easy on the number of innuendos.

Speaking on the episode, Prue admitted: "I never get the jokes. All this stuff about innuendo and things. I feel I’m really glad Alison’s coming because at least she’s a woman and she’ll be a little more sensible."

However, Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett was unconvinced about Alison's ability to not crack a joke, saying: "I’m not sure about that, we know Alison."

Speaking about co-judge Paul Hollywood, as well as presenters Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding, Prue went on to say: "Well, those three men, they’re like three children. You say sausage and everybody always does laughter. What’s wrong with you guys?

"But anyway, that’s them. Over and over again, I’m the butt of the joke because I’m standing there and I don’t understand why everyone’s laughing. But I have said something which apparently is hilarious and it’s rude, but of course, I don’t get it."

The next season of The Great British Bake Off is set to return to Channel 4 in the autumn, with Alison joining the line-up to present it for the first time.

Speaking about her appointment Ian Katz, Channel 4's Chief Content Officer: “Alison is much loved, effortlessly funny, and the owner of the best laugh in Britain.

"She was a huge hit when she appeared on Celebrity Bake Off and we’re thrilled to have her back in the tent.”

Announcing the exciting news earlier this year, Alison said: "This is breaking news, Alison Hammond is joining the team of The Great British Bake Off.

"I'm just absolutely thrilled. I'm going to be meeting the bakers very soon. I'm joining The Great British Bake Off. I'm so very excited."

At the moment, we don't have a confirmed release date for the new season of Bake Off and we're waiting to find out more about the contestants, so we'll just have to be patient for now!

The Great American Baking Show judges

Taking their turn judging American bakers in the tent for a change are Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. Hollywood has served as a judge on The Great British Bake Off since 2010 and Leith replaced longtime judge Mary Berry back in 2017.

Fresh off their stint hosting The Great American Baking Show Celebrity Holiday, Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry return to host The Great American Baking Show. Kemper is best known for her role as Kimmy Schmidt in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Erin Hannon in The Office. Cherry is known for his role as Dylan in Severance. 

Celebrity Bake Off is always a real treat for fans and this time it was comedian Lucy Beaumont that had everyone talking... for all the wrong reasons!

In Celebrity Bake Off 2023 we welcomed a new bunch of celebrities all hoping to impress the judges while raising vital funds for the campaign Stand Up to Cancer. 

This year we've got a great line up including The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades, Loose Women star Judi Love, and TV host AJ Odudu, but it was comedian Lucy Beaumont that made an impression for her 'bizarre' cake.

Lucy's showstopper was inspired by an all-you-can-eat carvery dinner with Tom Hardy and Idris Elba, but she begged the panel not to judge her too harshly as it didn't quite go according to plan.

Following the episode, the official British Bake Off Twitter account shared a photo of Lucy's efforts, writing: "Lucy Beaumont’s ‘Sunday Lunch’ Cake Showstopper based on her perfect day off — featuring Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and an all you can eat carvery."

As you can see, the cake was not a roaring success and Lucy got some pretty savage comments from the judges. Judge Prue Leith joked: "If we asked you for your worst nightmare, then I’d think you’d win."

Meanwhile, Paul Hollywood spat the cake out and said: "I wouldn’t say it’s inedible, but it’s on the way. I’ve never had a cake like it. It’s bizarre."

Out of earshot, Paul added: "It’s certainly one of the worst cakes we’ve ever seen in the tent!". That's got to hurt.

Naturally, Lucy's efforts were discussed on Twitter with one fan saying they'd "never laughed so hard" before seeing the cake, and another joking that the cake was "a showstopper in its own way".

Even host Noel Fielding had a laugh about it, as when he announced the winner he quipped: "The winner of star baker is Lucy… no of course it isn’t. If it was up to me you’d be the winner!"

It was actor David Morrissey who did end up winning the competition with his cake depicting himself watching his football team, Liverpool.

Speaking about his week 3 win, David said: "I can’t believe it. I mean, I don’t know whether you saw my face when it was announced, I was convinced it was going to be Adele, I thought her cake was so amazing. So, yeah, I won’t gloat about it."

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer is back as more famous faces cook up a storm in the tent.

Hosted by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, the five-part season sees 20 celebrities take part to try to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith and raise vital funds for Stand Up to Cancer.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2023 for Stand Up to Cancer is back! What was it like having Friends star David Schwimmer in the tent for the opening episode?

Paul Hollywood: “Great! I couldn’t believe it. I was a big fan of Friends so it was lovely to be with him and to meet David rather than Ross. He's such a nice guy, but he was intense and concentrated. He wanted to do well and he’s talented.” 

Dame Prue Leith: “I was very interested to meet him. He wanted to be on the show to support Stand Up To Cancer but also, like most people, he wanted to get into that tent. At the beginning he didn’t talk at all, he was busy baking, but he loosened up. I was surprised at how serious and determined he was!” 

Were there any other stars who you enjoyed having on the show?

Dame Prue Leith: “I was pleased to have [Dragon’s Den star] Deborah Meaden, who's an old friend. She's always seen as a tough businesswoman who doesn't smile a lot and is brutal so it was lovely to show that she's a nice woman! And we had [Olympic diver] Tom Daley, who is a knitter, so decoration was his thing.”

Paul Hollywood: “I’m a big fan of [The Repair Shop’s] Jay Blades, you could see he works with his hands. [Top Gear star] Paddy McGuinness was lovely to catch up with as well and [Sherwood actor] David Morrissey put a smile on people’s faces. But [former TOWIE star] Gemma Collins was worried about being there!”

Did anything go wrong in the tent this year?!

Paul Hollywood: “A couple of things collapsed, or sometimes they ran out of talent! Paddy made schoolboy errors, and I stopped one before it happened. They made ‘my hometown’ in biscuits, and he did a Bolton chimney, and he wanted it really high, it was ridiculous! So we offered advice. You want them to enjoy it, so you say, ‘If you do that instead, it'll end up ten times as good…’” 

Dame Prue Leith: “It's extraordinary that the celebrities cope though, because often they don't bake at all. But they have wonderful ideas and the atmosphere in the tent is so supportive. I love the celebrity one because it has all the best things about Bake Off but it's not as serious. There’s a lot more laughter!”

In the first Showstopper, they create their ‘biggest celebrity fail’ out of meringue and comic Tom Davis makes a dirty festival loo! What was that like?

Paul Hollywood: “Distressing! Tom had even made meringue kisses that looked like poo. But they tasted nice!”

Dame Prue Leith: “I found it difficult to look at, it was disgusting! But the celebrities are imaginative. This season has some of the best Showstoppers — crazy ones!” 

Did any of the celebrities have personal reasons for wanting to help Stand Up To Cancer?

Paul Hollywood: “There are quite a lot of people in this series who have been affected by cancer. They really wanted to be part of something to raise some money. I know what Adele [Roberts, the DJ, who has had bowel cancer] has been through, and she's amazing. Cancer is difficult to deal with. When you hear people’s stories, you think, ‘We need to sort this out quickly’.”

The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2023 for Stand Up to Cancer starts on Sunday, March 19 on Channel 4 at 7.45 pm

The Great British Bake Off has announced they have a new co-host, following Matt Lucas' departure from the series last year.

Taking to social media, the official account for the beloved baking show has revealed that This Morning presenter Alison Hammond will be joining the team as co-host, alongside Noel Fielding.

Together, the duo will present the show alongside judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, which will return to our screens at some point this year, although we haven't got an air date just yet.

The Bake Off social update read: "We're delighted to announce that Alison Hammond will be joining forces with Noel Fielding to host the next series of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 later this year. We cannot wait!"

Alison also excitedly shared the news, writing: "It’s Official!! It’s happening The Great British Bake Off! Let’s have it — The cake that is. So excited."

She also shared a video featuring a cake in the shape of the classic Bake Off kitchen with sugar models of Alison alongside Prue, Paul and Noel, in a rather fitting way to celebrate her new presenting role.

Speaking in the video, Alison said: "This is breaking news, Alison Hammond is joining the team of The Great British Bake Off.

"I'm just absolutely thrilled. I'm going to be meeting the bakers very soon. I'm joining The Great British Bake Off. I'm so very excited."

This news comes a few months after former co-host Matt Lucas stepped down from Bake Off in December, citing other projects as the reason he was leaving the role.

At the time, the actor and comedian said: "Farewell Bake Off! It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers. But it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects. 

"So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else."

Channel 4 hasn't revealed much else about the 2023 series of so we will have to wait patiently to find out who'll be competing to join the list of Bake Off winners.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4, with episodes available on demand via All4.

The five-part season will air weekly from Sunday, March 19, 2023, on Channel 4.

In each episode, four celebrities will compete for the coveted Star Baker apron:

Friends star David Schwimmer will be heading into the tent along with comic and Big Gary star Tom Davis, Starstruck’s Rose Matafeo and Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson.

The Repair’s Shop’s Jay Blades will also take part, as will comic and Loose Women star Judi Love, comedian Mike Wozniak and Dragons’ Den’s Deborah Meaden.

TV host AJ Odudu will compete, and look out for ex-TOWIE star Gemma Collins, comedian and The Witchfinder actor Tim Key and actor Jessica Hynes too.

Presenter Paddy McGuinness will also be firing up his food mixer along with Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan, comic and Cheat host Ellie Taylor and The Inbetweeners’  and Fresh Meat's Joe Thomas.

Meanwhile, Olympic diver Tom Daley will be taking the plunge as well as actor David Morrissey, comic and Meet the Richardsons’ Lucy Beaumont and DJ Adele Roberts.

As the famous faces try to win over Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith with their Signature, Technical and Showstopper bakes, hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas will also be returning. But this will be Matt’s final time in the tent as he is bowing out before the next season of The Great British Bake Off later this year.
