TV’s longest-running medical drama is back for another surgical rotation in the Fall 2025-2026 TV season, with Grey's Anatomy season 22 hitting the airwaves.

After a traumatic Grey's Anatomy season 21 finale (which is almost par for the course at this point), there appear to a few changes on the horizon. We're talking romance shifts, life-or-death medical emergencies for the staff and your usual Grey's heartbreaking moments.

Grey’s Anatomy season 22 release date

Grey's Anatomy season 22 premieres on Thursday, October 16, at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC.

Grey’s Anatomy is an ABC original series and as such, new episodes air live directly on the broadcast network. For those that have cut ties with traditional cable/satellite television, ABC is available to stream on live TV streaming services such as Fubo, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV. New episodes of the season become available to stream the next day on Hulu.

In the UK, season 22 episodes are expected to stream on Disney Plus.

As far as what you can expect in season 22, season 21 left some cliffhangers. Having sold her shares of the hospital but maintaining surgical privleges, how will Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) fit in now that she has a little less authority? Also, will Lucas (Niko Terho) and Simone (Alexis Floyd) be able to get past their "secret" infidelity issue? Heck, are Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) really done? From plane crashes to mass shootings to live bombs, the long-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy has seen its fair share of crazy storylines, but who knew that things behind-the-scenes rivaled what fans were seeing onscreen? A new Peacock docuseries delves into the wild true story of Grey's Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch, who fabricated her life story for years while she worked on the hit ABC drama. 

Premiering tomorrow, October 15, on the streamer, "Anatomy of Lies reveals the rise and fall of Grey’s Anatomy star writer Elisabeth Finch, whose jaw-dropping lies fooled Hollywood for years, and became fodder for many high-profile episodes of Grey’s,” a synopsis explains. Among the deceptions whipped up by the TV writer, who had also worked on series like True Blood, No Ordinary Family and The Vampire Diaries, were that she had been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer—she even wrote essays about her personal medical struggles in publications like Elle and The Hollywood Reporter—had lost a close friend in a mass shooting and had been abused by her own brother.

The documentary's synopsis continues: "Her final mark was trauma survivor Jennifer Beyer, who entrusted Finch with her deepest secrets. But as Beyer uncovers the web of lies that deceived Hollywood for years, she faces a daunting challenge: Can she reclaim the narrative from a convincing storyteller who showed no signs of stopping?"

The three-part docuseries will include interviews with some of Finch's former colleagues and close friends, including fellow Grey's Anatomy scribes, as well as her estranged wife Jennifer Beyer and two of Beyer's older children. “It can be very cathartic to tell your story,” Evgenia Peretz, the doc's co-director and executive producer told Vanity Fair. “I hope that for Jenn’s sake, especially, having told her story to such a wide audience is therapeutic. And I hope that audience members who have been in a similar situation to Jenn, where they’ve been lied to or betrayed and feel gullible or whatever it is, feel like they’re not alone.”

All three installments of Anatomy of Lies will premiere on Tuesday, October 15; you can tune in with a Peacock subscription. (Options include Peacock Premium for $7.99 per month or Peacock Premium Plus for $11.99 monthly.)

Continuing its run as the longest-running medical drama in primetime in the US, Grey’s Anatomy season 21 kicks off another run for the popular series. 

It's natural for a show with this much time under its belt to see its fair share of casting shakeups. Over the years fans have had to say painful goodbyes to Sandra Oh's Cristina Yang, Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd, Alex Karev's Justin Chambers and the list goes on. However, in the face of all the departures, the show has also seen some great casting additions, such as Kevin McKidd's Owen Hunt, Camilla Luddington's Jo Wilson and Debbie Allen's Catherine Fox.

Who's coming to Grey’s Anatomy?

Floriana Lima

A Million Little Things actor Floriana Lima is joining Grey's Anatomy in a recurring role as Nora, a childhood friend of Owen's. Lima first makes an appearance in the episode airing on October 3, as her character will be in need of some medical advice. 

Jesse Williams

Fan-favorite Jackson Avery returns when Jesse Williams pops up in the season 21 premiere. It looks like Meredith is hoping to get his advice on how to smooth things over with his mother Catherine. 

Kali Rocha

Dr. Sydney Heron hasn't been seen on the show's canvas in 17 years, but Kali Rocha is set to bring her back to the fold. Deadline reports the actress is scheduled to appear in three episodes, apparently starting with the season 21 premiere. 

Ellen Pompeo

Ellen Pompeo is again scheduled to make appearances as Meredith Grey in season 21 after exiting the show as a series regular in season 19. According to Deadline, she’s expected to be featured in at least seven new episodes. 

Scott Speedman

Scott Speedman is reprising his role as Nick Marsh, which is great news for those fans of the character's romantic pairing with Meredith. Again reported by Deadline, he's scheduled to appear in at least five new episodes. 

Jason George

Jason George returns to his original stomping grounds in season 21 as Ben Warren. For seven seasons, he helped lead the way on Station 19, and at the conclusion of Station 19 season 7, it was announced he'd be rejoining the medical drama as a series regular. 

Who's leaving Grey’s Anatomy?

Jake Borelli

It was announced at the end of season 20 that Jake Borelli would be exiting the role of Dr. Levi Schmitt, aka Glasses. Borelli is wrapping his time with the series sometime during season 21. 

Midori Francis 

Midori Francis, who plays Dr. Mika Yasuda, is back to conclude her Grey’s Anatomy run in season 21. Her departure was announced prior to the start of the new season.

First things first, in some casting departure news, Midori Francis is exiting the role of intern Mika Yasuda. Additionally, Jake Borelli is set to part ways with his character Levi Schmitt, but Deadline states his exit won't actually happen until early into season 21.

With all of that being said, it's expected that the rest of the main cast will remain the same at this point. However, again according to Deadline, budget cuts will impact the cast as veteran players are being guaranteed fewer episodes. That translates to the likelihood that you'll see a little less of your favorite characters.

Trying to end its series run on a high note, Station 19 continues to rev up the drama in the show's final season on ABC (fans are hoping for a last-minute save from another network or platform). While TV watchers have gotten used to seeing Andy (Ramón Rodríguez) and her team show up to some high-octane emergencies as new episodes air on Station 19 season 7, fans won't be able to see a new episode tonight, April 25. 

As a matter of fact, both 9-1-1 season 7 and Grey's Anatomy season 20  join Station 19 in taking a break from the airwaves tonight, as none of ABC's usual Thursday primetime lineup is airing new episodes. So what's to blame for the interruption in the regularly scheduled programming? Football. 

The 2024 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 25, on ABC, starting at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. Tonight is just the first round of the draft, with rounds two and three airing on Friday and rounds four through seven airing on Saturday. 

With all of that being said, when can fans expect to see new episodes of Station 19? Well, according to press material, it looks like a new episode of Station 19 arrives next Thursday, May 2. For those desperate to know if Vic (Barrett Doss) will get to keep her job or if she'll be fired for her latest antics, this may seem like a long way off, especially considering the series did not air a new episode last week either. 

When Station 19 does return, it will do so with episode 6 of the season titled, "With So Little to be Sure Of." Here is a synopsis of the episode:

In Grey's Anatomy season 20 episode 3, there's a new doctor at the hospital, as fans are introduced to Dr. Monica Beltran (Natalie Morales), a new pediatric attending. While that brings some exciting new developments, there's plenty going on with the usual staff at Grey Sloan. 

We find out what Nico (Alex Landi) has been up to since we last saw him. Meanwhile, Lucas (Niko Terho) unforgivably betrays Mika (Midori Francis), leading to another divide in the group of interns that will make a big change in their living arrangements.

Welcome to Grey Sloan, Dr. Monica Beltran

What better way to be welcomed to Grey Sloan than having your parking spot stolen? It's safe to say after this encounter that Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Monica do not get off to a great start. However, they're working on the same case and while they try to be civil for the patient, they quickly disagree on what the best course of action is after seeing the scans. 

After a conversation with Richard (James Pickens Jr.), they come up with a new and safer plan they both agree on. The procedure is successful thanks to both doctors but that isn't enough to get them on good terms moving forward. 

Lucas' shocking move 

Per Miranda's (Chandra Wilson) instructions, Mika and Lucas are in charge of monitoring Dorian (Freddy Miyares), but that's not exciting enough for Lucas. Instead, he decides to ditch his fellow intern, wanting to get back in the OR before Blue (Harry Shum Jr.). Everything quickly goes downhill from there, but after Lucas returns to help, Mika figures out what's wrong and runs to grab supplies so they can save Dorian. Of course, that's when Miranda walks in and Lucas takes credit for the diagnosis and gowns up, not sticking up for Mika when Miranda comments about how they interrupted her break. 

Mika confronts him, pointing out she was trying to be his friend after his breakup and he stabbed her in the back after leaving her to watch the patient the entire time. She says she's done and doesn't want to be his friend anymore. Before the episode ends, Simone (Alexis Floyd) goes to Lucas' room to talk, only to discover he's taken all of his stuff and moved out of the house. 

It's a secret 

Amelia and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) are working on securing funding for their research, which means Meredith will be at the hospital for a few hours until her flight back to Boston. She runs into Teddy (Kim Raver), who is there to do physical therapy, and decides to join her to hide from Catherine (Debbie Allen). While the two are talking, Teddy has a nasty fall on the treadmill and gets a sprain. Catherine walks in and begins to question Meredith on why she’s here, but thankfully, Teddy covers for her. The catch is Catherine wants to know why Meredith is actually at Grey Sloan and just like that, someone else is let in on the secret research.

It's the right decision because Teddy offers Grey Sloan's discretionary fund. It would not be enough to cover everything, but they could publish the initial report and that would open more doors for them and their research. It's a risk she doesn't hesitate to take, believing in Meredith.

Love is not in the air

Winston (Anthony Hill) is planning to visit Maggie, however, a trauma patient comes in and takes priority for the time being, leading him to team up with Owen (Kevin McKidd), Link (Chris Carmack), Simone and Jules (Adelaide Kane). Unfortunately, the patient bleeds out and he ends up dying. 

Afterward, we find out that Maggie canceled on Winston before and he blames himself for the patient's death, thinking he took his frustrations out on him. Owen assures him they did everything they could and Winston admits he and Maggie were supposed to talk about what was next for them, but it just keeps getting pushed off. So at what point does he stop trying? Owen tells him there's only one thing that can lead to his answer: why is he trying? After considering the question, he eventually takes off his wedding ring. 

Levi sees Nico talking to Jo (Camilla Luddington) and we later find out that he's here with his partner and their surrogate. They're going to have a baby and it's all clearly a shock to Levi's system. He is upset Nico never told Jason about their relationship, but Jo calls him out, explaining it's not about Nico at all and telling him if he wants to win he needs to get in the game. Nico apologizes for the encounter and then uses the opportunity to explain how the thought of losing Jason felt much scarier than having a family. 

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursday at 9 pm ET/PT on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu. 

In Grey's Anatomy season 20 episode 2, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) realizes she's changed as a teacher and person, but Ben (Jason George) reminds her that it's all for the better. While we see Link (Chris Carmack) and Jo's (Camilla Luddington) relationship grow stronger, Lucas (Niko Terho) and Simone's (Alexis Floyd) relationship falls apart in true Grey's Anatomy fashion.

Miranda vs the baby surgeons

The interns are officially back to the basics, and until they complete their procedure cards to perfection they won't even be able to look at an OR under Miranda's new orders. 

Teddy (Kim Raver) recruits Mika (Midori Francis) to check on her patients since she's still recovering while Jules (Adelaide Kane) has a pregnant patient named Allie who came in with a family softball game disaster. However, she ends up working on most of the family as well, who later named her the MVP. 

A John Doe, who was shot multiple times, that Blue (Harry Shum Jr.) and Lucas are working on dies, but Blue then asks if he can take over the cardiac massage before they officially declare him dead, leading to a miracle. His heart starts beating again! 

Winston (Anthony Hill) disagrees with Miranda's methods, saying that this is stunting the interns' education and interfering with his work. Naturally, she pushes back, knowing what a good teacher she is, even if it leads to doubts later. 

As for Mika, Owen (Kevin McKidd) requests that he get his wife to rest, which is no easy task for anyone, let alone an intern. Mika uses the opportunity to tell Teddy that she is not fine, reminding Teddy she was next to her when the chief of surgery collapsed in the OR and pounded on her heart to keep her alive. Recounting that traumatic moment is enough for Teddy to finally break down in sobs. 

When Blue asks if he gets credit for the cardiac massage, Miranda gives a powerful lecture on the importance of saving lives and remembering that their patient is a human being, not a blank box to be checked off their procedure cards. 

After Simone's accidental reveal of Dante's life-changing diagnosis, she tries to distract herself with Lucas, who just wants the two of them to talk. Immediately, she pulls away and leaves, prolonging their much-needed conversation once again.

In the end, Lucas and Simone can't get on the same page. Simone says she needs to put herself and her career first, which means it's not a good time for them. This is the last straw for Lucas and after calling her out, he declares that they're done, roommates and nothing more. 

Flirting or something more?

Dante, who comes in with a gallbladder infection, immediately shows interest in Levi (Jake Borelli), aka his 'hot surgeon." However, the flirting does not get very far after Simone reveals he's positive for HIV, which he did not know. He doesn't believe her, insistent that she's wrong, and wants to go home. Before he's able to leave, he and Levi have a deep conversation about what dating will look like for Dante going forward, which ends when the pain becomes too much and he agrees to do the surgery. 

After the surgery, Dante asks if Levi has any dinner plans, and while he has other patients, the doctor decides he can afford to spare 20 minutes to sit and talk with Dante. 

Amelia has an important reminder

During Allie's spinal surgery with Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), Link and Jo are still discussing the fact that she doesn't remember the many guys who have flirted with her throughout their friendship, specifically since they met due to him bailing her out when a guy was hitting on her. Thankfully, Amelia doesn't mind her ex starting a new relationship and reminds Jo how sentimental Link is, adding that he remembers everything because he cares. It's the reminder that she needs and Jo goes for a grand gesture of a candlelit dinner for Link when he arrives home, bringing up some of the memories of their relationship that she considers to be special. 

This episode is seemingly an eye-opener for Amelia as well, who expresses to Winston that she misses her family and Kai, asking if he would get a burger with her. He agrees, hopefully starting a better relationship for both of their sakes.

The Grey’s Anatomy season 19 finale left fans with many big cliffhangers so it’s no surprise Grey’s Anatomy season 20 goes hard with its premiere. From Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) temporary return at Grey Sloan Memorial to the interns dealing with drama similar to M.A.G.I.C.'s early days,   the medical series plays with themes that it knows best. 

Teddy's fate 

After collapsing in the season 19 finale, Teddy (Kim Raver) has been resuscitated. It's revealed that she has bacterial endocarditis caused by a dental infection. She underwent an emergency valve replacement but there's still more to be checked. Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) takes it upon herself to look after Owen (Kevin McKidd), knowing he is in no condition to work or do anything while he's so concerned with Teddy. 

Turns out Teddy also has a clot in her femoral artery, but thankfully Winston (Anthony Hill) takes care of it and she's okay. While the procedure is underway, Amelia stays by Owen's side; it's a beautiful testament to how far they have come over the years. Of course, Owen is by Teddy's bedside when she opens her eyes and the relief is obvious to everyone watching.

The interns are in trouble

The drama is in full force with the new class of interns. Nick (Scott Speedman) orders them to stay away from patients for the day at the very least while he figures things out. Simone (Alexis Floyd) wants to talk about what happened between her and Lucas (Niko Terho), but he doesn't, telling her to say it was his idea to open Sam as there will most likely be an investigation into his death. Before anything further can be discussed, they're asked by an EMT to help get a crash victim to the ER since their engine died. 

Almost as soon as they get in the ambulance to help, a malfunctioning self-driving car crashes again and again into the back of their vehicle, leaving them trapped. Meredith and Miranda (Chandra Wilson) have to walk them through how to run the trauma in the ambulance, eventually calling Link (Chris Carmack) and Blue (Harry Shum Jr.) to try to deal with the car and non-driver, who is seated in the backseat. Simone doesn't want to open the patient up after Sam, not able to handle another death, but Lucas knows they have no choice and does what needs to be done. They're successful and Blue manages to stop the car by stabbing the tire, which means they can get the patient, Simone and Lucas out. 

Miranda and Meredith are scrubbing in, giving the two of them the perfect opportunity to reminisce about when the latter was an intern. 

Meanwhile, Jules (Adelaide Kane) sits by Maxine's bedside to go through her love confession to Blue and complicated feelings of what he did to save the older woman, which he only did because he did not want her to lose someone she loved. Jules backtracks and apologizes for giving Blue the wrong idea, even though that's clearly not true, and he agrees, adding it's better this way. 

Mika (Midori Francis) also confronts Jo (Camilla Luddington), asking where she was when they paged and called for help with Sam, since she was one of his doctors. It's very clear the interns are struggling with this loss, feeling the blood on their hands. 

Simone and Lucas finally have a conversation, starting with what happened with Sam but then moving onto what happened between them. He asks if she has regrets. While she says she doesn't, she needs a minute. 

The most important thing is that Nick won't be firing anyone, but they will have five new rules to follow, courtesy of Miranda.

Big decisions

Catherine (Debbie Allen) did damage control to save Meredith's career, but instructs her that she has to shut up about her theories on Alzheimer's or she'll shut down her lab. However, before Meredith leaves, Amelia shares that she went through all of her research and what's happened with Teddy has made her consider that Meredith is right. Meredith does agree to Catherine's terms, but asks Amelia to help her keep it going in secret. Plus, it turns out something good does happen for Meredith: Nick hands off the program to Miranda so that he can move to Boston and be with her.

Elsewhere, Richard (James Pickens Jr.) decides he needs to step back from the OR because he hasn't stopped thinking about the drink he almost had. When he comments that he doesn't trust himself to operate and is not sure if he ever will again, Miranda insists he will bounce back; he has made it far and he has the strength to do it again. She assures him that she will take over his surgeries until then. Before the episode ends, we see him in AA, asking for a reset and announcing he's one day sober.

The episode titled "Burn It Down," airs on Thursday, May 30, at 9 pm ET/PT on ABC. Here is a brief synopsis of what's to come: 

"Wildfires threaten the Seattle region, leading to a flood of patients and emergency procedures. The doctors juggle overcapacity in the ER, complex surgeries and personal stress. Meanwhile, Meredith makes a rash decision that can’t be undone."

In some amazing casting news for fans already set to miss Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey, she is featured in the new season. However, to date, it's not known how many episodes Pompeo will appear in playing the fan-favorite character. 

Additionally, Jessica Capshaw is back playing Dr. Arizona Robbins in the new season. She was last seen departing for New York in season 14. At the time of publication, there is no word as to how many episodes she'll be featured in. 

Grey’s Anatomy season 20 plot

At the heart of the show is a medical drama that follows both the professional and personal lives of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, a hospital in Seattle, Washington. 

As previously mentioned, season 19 started to place a lot of focus on the new crop of interns. It’s expected this pivot to follow the fresh blood of the show will continue in the forthcoming episodes.

Here's the trailer for Grey's Anatomy season 20 and it looks nothing short of captivating. There is even a surprise guest from the past popping back by the hospital and we don't mean Meredith. 

The 2023 ABC fall TV lineup will look a lot different this year as the network opted for a strike-proof schedule full of reality shows, game shows and sporting events. One of the biggest changes comes on Thursday nights as Grey's Anatomy season 20 gets pushed out and Bachelor Nation moves in. 

The newest show in The Bachelor franchise, The Golden Bachelor, will premiere on Thursday, September 28, at 8 pm ET/PT, followed by the premiere of Bachelor in Paradise season 9 at 9 pm ET/PT.   

The Golden Bachelor features the franchise's first senior bachelor, Gerry Turner, who is searching for a special someone with whom he can spend his golden years. Turner, who is 71, will rely on modern dating advice from his daughters (and one of his granddaughters) as he goes on this journey to find love. 

On the other fall Bachelor series, it was announced that The Bachelorette season 20 contestant Brayden Bowers will be joining Kat Izzo from The Bachelor season 27 on Bachelor in Paradise. 

In other ABC fall schedule news, game shows dominate the Wednesday lineup on the alphabet network. Celebrity Jeopardy! season 2 premieres Wednesday, September 27, at 8 pm ET/PT, followed by Celebrity Wheel of Fortune at 9 pm ET/PT and The $100,000 Pyramid at 10 pm ET/PT. Ken Jennings will be taking over Celebrity Jeopardy! hosting duties after Mayim Bialik stepped down in support of the Writers Guild of America strike. 

Dancing with the Stars season 32 returns to ABC this fall and will take over Mondays (a premiere date is not available as of this writing). The series will also be available on Disney Plus; ABC and Disney Plus will share the competition series to help fill the gaps in ABC's fall schedule with former contestant and judge Julianne Hough joining the cast as the new co-host.

Shark Tank season 15 debuts on Friday, September 29, at 8 pm ET/PT followed by 20/20 at 9 pm ET/PT, while Sundays will be split between America's Funniest Videos at 7 pm ET/PT and The Wonderful World of Disney at 8 pm ET/PT. 

We're still awaiting word for the Tuesday schedule. All of these shows will premiere on ABC and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.

If you're like us, then you may find yourself still in disbelief that Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey left Grey’s Anatomy after 19 seasons of the show. The character was the last remaining original intern and her story arc has led to some truly iconic moments in primetime. 

Pompeo actually talks about one such moment in a recent one-on-one sitdown with Katherine Heigl for Variety, (yes, the former Izzie Stevens herself). In what is sure to make longtime Grey's fans gasp, Pompeo revealed that one of the most legendary scenes of the show's entire run is one that she was actually not interested in filming. 

The scene in question occurred during Grey’s Anatomy season 2 episode 5. If you’ll recall, Meredith was knee-deep in a love triangle involving her, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh). Addison had come to Seattle to repair her marriage to Derek, who was actually dating Meredith. Poor Meredith didn't know Derek was married when the two started their whirlwind romance in season 1, but was very much still in love with him after she learned the truth. 

Derek then found himself in the midst of having to choose between his head telling him to fix things with Addison and his heart pulling him to make things work with Meredith. In a pitch to sway him to her side, Meredith made an impassioned plea uttering the famous phrase, "Pick me, choose me, love me." That dialogue has since gone down as one of the most memorable clips of the entire show's history. 

Well as it turns out, Pompeo fought hard against doing that scene. Specifically, she told Heigl, "I don’t know if you remember, but I fought that speech so hard."

Pompeo later elaborated, "I was like why would I beg a man? I can't beg a man on TV, this is so embarrassing. And then it turns out to be one of the most successful scenes, one of the most famous scenes ever."

Now for those Grey's fans wondering if this sitdown between these original cast members of the show will lead to a reprisal of their characters in Grey’s Anatomy season 20, we can't say. Pompeo has gone on record numerous times expressing that she'd love to pop back into Grey Sloan Memorial every now and then, so perhaps there is some hope Heigl may do the same.

TV fans won't be heading to Seattle to see what's going on with Station 19 or Grey's Anatomy, as both series wrapped up their seasons on May 18. Instead, ABC is giving viewers a chance to catch up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it airs the broadcast TV debut of one of the studios recent movies.

Airing on Thursday, May 25, at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The Marvel movie starring Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh introduces the new hero of Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

Shang-Chi was released in movie theaters on September 3, 2021, and was widely praised, earning a "Certified Fresh" score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, including What to Watch's own Shang-Chi review giving it three and a half stars, while audiences gave it a 98% positive rating. The movie made more than $430 million worldwide, which considering it came out when the pandemic had people a bit weary to head to the movie theater, is nothing to shrug off.

The movie has been available to stream on Disney Plus since November 2021, but its airing on ABC gives those not subscribed to the streaming service their first chance to watch the movie at no extra cost.

If you can't watch Shang-Chi on May 25 though, don't worry, it's not the only time the movie is going to be airing on TV in the near future. FX is going to broadcast the movie on Sunday, May 28, Saturday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 21, all at 7 pm ET/PT, and again on Thursday, June 22, at 5 pm ET/PT. Freeform is also going to show the movie on Saturday, June 10, at 8:10 pm ET/PT and Sunday, June 11, at 5 pm ET/PT.

The 2023-2024 network television lineup is taking shape, with ABC revealing a completely strike-proof schedule for the fall. The move pushes scripted series like The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy and ABC-newcomer 9-1-1 to midseason in favor of unscripted fare like Dancing with the Stars and new series The Golden Bachelor. 

ABC announced its fall 2023 lineup of shows on Tuesday, May 19, and scripted series were noticeably absent from the roster. The move is designed to carry the network through to midseason.

Even without scripted series, ABC's lineup is robust, with perennial favorites leading the charge. Dancing with the Stars will return to anchor Monday nights, followed by the premiere of The Golden Bachelor at 10 pm. The Golden Bachelor will feature older contestants looking for love in their retirement years. 

The rest of ABC's lineup is a mix of popular game shows like Celebrity Jeopardy!, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Press Your Luck and The $100,000 Pyramid — the latter three making up the network’s entire Thursday night roster — along with veteran hits like Bachelor in Paradise, 20/20, Shark Tank and America's Funniest Home Videos. What Would You Do?, the popular hidden camera series, is back after a three-year break. 

Repeat episodes of Abbott Elementary will air on Wednesdays following Judge Steve Harvey, and Sunday nights will be anchored by The Wonderful World of Disney. 

ABC also has six Monday Night Football games throughout the NFL season, and Saturdays will be dedicated to the network's Saturday Night College Football programming.

As of this writing, no premiere dates have been set for ABC's unscripted fall lineup. There's enough flexibility with the unscripted shows to make changes should the Writer's Guild of America and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers come to an agreement to allow for production to resume. 

At this point, however, ABC is making long-term plans, pushing its scripted lineup to later in the season. That means shows like Grey’s Anatomy, The Rookie, Abbott Elementary, The Conners and newcomer 9-1-1 will likely appear in the midseason. 

All of the networks have been planning for the fall TV season a bit differently amid the ongoing writers strike. NBC's fall lineup features a healthy mix of scripted and unscripted series while CBS is moving forward with a schedule that isn't much different from the norm. We're still waiting to learn more about the Fox schedule, but they are also relying heavily on unscripted.

Grey's Anatomy fans can rest easy, as creator Shonda Rhimes has teased she sees the show continuing for a long long time, as long as the fans are still on board.

The long-running medical drama is currently going strong with Grey's Anatomy season 19. From the sounds of things, there are no plans to bring it to an end even though lead star Ellen Pompeo (Dr. Meredith Grey) made the decision to leave the show earlier this year. We might even get another 19 seasons!

Speaking to E! News, Rhimes said: "I might be a very old lady by the time we reach its last season because it doesn't seem to be stopping.

"It's such an amazing show and it's doing so well as it's moving forward. I'm going to leave it alone and see where it goes, and we're going to stay a show as long as everybody wants to be there and as long as the fans want to be there", Shonda Rhimes added.

Rhimes went on to discuss Ellen Pompeo's open-ended exit from the series. "Having Ellen leave was heartbreaking for everybody, but also knowing that she could come back anytime was also important for me.

"Ellen's an amazing person and she and I have been having conversations the whole time, discussing when it was time and what it was feeling like. We've always been having those discussions because I've always wanted her to be excited and invested and enjoying herself as much as she was at the beginning."

Of course, Ellen Pompeo hasn't left the show behind entirely, as she's still on board to provide voiceovers for the show, which sounds like it made her departure less difficult.

"It was a little bit of a heartbreaking moment, but it was also a moment — for me —that she's not gone because she's coming back. I don't think of her as gone from the show, she's still doing the voiceovers, she's still there", Rhimes concluded.

With Grey's Anatomy's future looking bright, it's good to see Rhimes' Netflix period drama franchise, Bridgerton, performing just as well. Prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has just landed and immediately claimed the top spot in the Netflix Top 10, and we've got Bridgerton season 3 (and beyond) to look forward to later down the line.

In what will be a shocker to many Grey’s Anatomy fans, another character is heading off the show in season 19. Barely a month after Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey packed up her three kids and career and ventured to Boston, it looks like her younger sister Dr. Maggie Pierce is also leaving Grey Sloan, as her portrayer Kelly McCreary has announced she is exiting the show after nine seasons. Her last appearance as a series regular is slated for April 13. 

As seen in a statement released by Deadline, McCreary stated: 

"After nine seasons, I am saying goodbye to Maggie Pierce and her Grey Sloan family. It has been a tremendous honor to be a part of such a legendary television institution as Grey's Anatomy. I will always be grateful to Shonda Rhimes, Krista Vernoff and ABC for the opportunity, and to the incredible fans for their passionate support. 

"To spend nine years exploring a character inside and out, while reaching a global audience with impactful stories, is a rare gift. It has afforded me an opportunity to collaborate with, learn from and be inspired by countless brilliant artists both in front of and behind the camera. Playing Maggie Pierce has been one of the true joys of my life and I leave with profound gratitude for every step of this journey. I am excited for this next chapter and what the future holds."

For those that have been following Maggie's current storyline in season 19, she's been finding herself at odds with her husband Dr. Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill). The latter has taken great exception with Maggie's continued commentary on his career as a surgeon and the two have even taken time to live apart. While we don't know if her marital woes will play a role in Maggie's exit, we imagine the departure will impact the onscreen relationship in some fashion.

On another note, could Maggie be going to Boston to join her big sister Meredith? Considering the relationship the two developed since the former arrived in Seattle during Grey's Anatomy season 10, it would be rather touching if they continued their sisterly bond offscreen.

As a longtime Grey’s Anatomy fan, Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) departure from the Grey Sloan Memorial canvas has been a point of anxiety. For 18 and a half seasons, she's been the center of the show's universe and has provided the most OMG moments, the most mindboggling heartache and the most complex relationships of any character in the Shondaland production. So when it came time for Meredith's final episode as a series regular, we were expecting one of the best sendoffs in recent TV memory. 

Unfortunately, when the episode titled "I'll Follow the Sun" aired on February 23, viewers got the complete opposite. It was like opening a new bottle of champagne and expecting the bubbles and fizz, only for it to turn out to be completely flat. Here's why Meredith's departure was such a letdown. 

No former Grey's characters returned

For starters, when you think about the other characters that said goodbye to Seattle (those not killed off), they all seemed to have important people in their lives return to help shepherd them off the canvas. For example, Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) had Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) had April Kepner (Sarah Drew) and even Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) had Izzy; even though fans didn't physically see her, she was referred to throughout his departure episode. 

Who returned for Meredith's goodbye? No one. Not even her besties Alex and Christina made an appearance, nor were they mentioned. Izzy didn't return to the show, which wasn't that much of a shocker. Heck, some of her most memorable patients didn't even pop up in a scene. The lack of throwback characters was quite disappointing. 

In all honesty, Meredith's stint with COVID in season 17 had so many shocking returns from Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) to George O'Malley (T.R. Knight) that the story arch would have served as a more appropriate goodbye if she had left the show then. 

The episode wasn't focused solely on Meredith

Then there's the fact that Meredith's final episode as a series regular was inundated with other storylines. Instead of being all about her, viewers were treated to what was going on in the lives of Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and the new interns. While we understand this crop of interns is a major part of the show in this subtle "reboot" of the franchise, given how long Meredith has been on Grey’s, she was deserving of a little more attention.  

Meredith's goodbye lacked reflection

With most character sendoffs in a series, time is spent reflecting on the growth of the individuals. Viewers are treated with speeches and/or montages to look back on how far they’ve come. Unfortunately, other than the brief words mentioned by Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) at Meredith's going away party, the audience didn't really get much time to think back on Dr. Grey's journey. 

There was one moment in the OR where Meredith and Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) were engaged in a tiff about her leaving without talking to him about it first. Although she admittedly loves him, he's never said it back and she emphasized that she is not going to beg him to be with her. In fact, she said she chooses herself and her kids over doing that. True fans of the show know this contrasts directly with a season 2 scene when Meredith was begging Derek to be with her and she uttered the infamous words "pick me, choose me, love me." That was an interesting bit of growth for the character.

With all that said, given Meredith is set to return to Grey’s Anatomy for the season 19 finale per a Deadline report, we hope that she will be given a more proper goodbye then.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. With Ellen Pompeo's departure from Grey's Anatomy airing on February 23, fans of the primetime drama are finally saying goodbye to Meredith Grey. 

For 19 seasons, Dr. Grey's journey has provided a roller coaster ride for viewers that have followed her every move. From the highs of her love story with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) to the lows of tragically losing many of those closest to her, and even having her own near-death experiences, fans have been right there to watch on Thursday nights. 

With that being said, we decided to celebrate Meredith's big departure by reminiscing on her top 10 most memorable moments. Keep reading to see what made the cut. 

Meredith tells Derek "pick me" 

When Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) arrived in Seattle, she created the most iconic love triangle of the entire series. She arrived in town to reconcile with her husband Derek who was falling for then-intern Meredith. While Derek admittedly had strong feelings for the latter, he struggled to just throw his marriage away. Then in a heartfelt moment, Meredith made the passionate plea to the neuro superhero, "pick me, choose me, love me."  

Meredith puts her hand on an explosive inside a patient

In season 2, the good doctors of Seattle Grace (now known as Grey Sloan Memorial) came across a patient with an active explosive inside of him. Keeping that explosive from actually detonating was a paramedic named Hannah (Christina Ricci) who had her hand on the device keeping it steady. However, as more time went by and her nerves got the best of her, Hannah fled from the scene and Meredith wound up placing her hand on the device to prevent it from going off in the patient and taking out half the hospital. 

Thankfully for viewers, when it did go boom, Meredith was only knocked unconscious. This marked her first of many brushes with death. 

Meredith almost drowns

Meredith's second brush with death happened during another rescue effort. While surgeons were helping patients at the infamous ferry crash, Meredith found herself tending to a patient who wound up knocking her into Elliot Bay where she "drowned" (episodes later it would be debated whether Meredith, who could swim, actually tried to save herself). Derek ultimately dove into the water and saved her, although she lay in a coma for a little while. 

It was during this coma state that she envisioned recent people she lost and eventually came face to face with her mother, Ellis Grey (Kate Burton), who was in the midst of dying at that time. In the brief moment, Meredith seemingly made peace with her mother, who had previously levied the harsh critique of calling the young Grey "ordinary." 

Thatcher slaps Meredith

We won't pretend that Meredith had the best father. Thatcher (Jeff Perry) abandoned his daughter as a kid, started another family and never really seemed to look back for years. Then once Meredith's sister Lexie (Chyler Leigh) started as an intern at the hospital, Thatcher started to slowly integrate back into his eldest daughter's life. 

The strides they made in repairing their father-daughter relationship seemed to be wiped away when Meredith, who was working with other doctors, failed to save his second wife's life. Thatcher blamed Meredith for her death and he literally slapped her in the face in front of the hospital. She looked absolutely devastated. 

Meredith ruins Derek's Alzheimer's trial

Loyal viewers of the show know that Meredith has always operated in the realm of grey, rather than black or white. While at times that made her a better doctor, it didn't always make her popular. Case in point, when Derek was conducting a medical trial to formulate a cure for Alzheimer's, Richard (James Pickens Jr.) got his wife Adele (Loretta Devine) to be one of the test subjects. 

Unfortunately, Mrs. Webber was all set to receive a placebo until Meredith interfered to ensure she got the trial drug. Meredith would have gotten away with this effort to help Richard if it wasn't for Alex (Justin Chambers) snitching. Her actions set off a firestorm of events at the hospital. 

Meredith almost dies in a plane crash

To this day, the plane accident has to be the most jaw-dropping season finales in the show's history. We can recall watching the season 8 episode when it first aired in complete shock and even horror. The plane carrying several doctors from the hospital just crashed in the middle of the woods. 

When season 9 started, Meredith was trying to stay alive in the wilderness while in full-on panic mode. Her husband was hanging on for dear life and her sister was pronounced dead. The event was a lot to take in as a fan.

Derek dies in a car accident

It was tough to see Meredith lose the love of her life in season 11. Show creator Shonda Rhimes and her team of writers spent almost a decade building up this epic romance between Meredith and Derek, and then their story was just destroyed the moment he was struck by a vehicle on a dark winding road while trying to save a life. 

When Meredith arrived at the medical facility that was doing a poor job at trying to save her husband's life, the tears that streamed down her face were so incredibly sad to watch and caused quite the stir on Twitter. 

Meredith gets attacked by a patient

You guessed it, this is another moment that Meredith almost meets her maker. While treating a patient alone in an exam room, the patient slipped into a post-seizure hyper-aggression state and physically assaulted her. Meredith's injuries were so severe that she couldn't hear, her jaw was broken leaving her without the ability to speak and she lay bedridden for months. 

What made the incident so powerful to watch as a viewer is that it was shot largely from her perspective and in silence. By the way, the scene was directed by Oscar-winner Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth).  

Meredith almost dies from COVID

When Grey’s Anatomy decided to tackle the real-world COVID pandemic on the show, no one could have guessed that Meredith would be the one doctor to nearly die from the illness (although, given how many times she's almost met death previously, perhaps it was actually predictable). 

The silver lining of the story arch was that as the brilliant surgeon lay in a coma for several episodes during season 17, the audience got to see her reconnect with several former characters of the series as she lay in her dream state, including Lexie and fan-favorite George O'Malley (T.R. Knight). 

Meredith becomes the chief of surgery

We weren't sure when it would happen, but we always knew one day that Meredith would become the chief of surgery. So when she effectively took over for Bailey (Chandra Wilson) at the end of season 18, it wasn't a surprise. After all, it was the only position left for her to attain at the hospital. Now she leaves Grey Sloan Memorial having literally achieved all that she can at the place that "raised" her.

Let's get the most shocking casting news out of the way first. Season 19 marks Ellen Pompeo's last as a full-time cast member playing Meredith Grey. While her big goodbye occurred in season 19 episode 7 titled "I'll Follow the Sun," she'll be back for the season 19 finale.

There are also five first-year surgical residents at Grey Sloan as interns in season 19. Alexis Floyd (Inventing Anna), Niko Terho (The Thing About Harry), Midori Francis (Good Boys), Adelaide Kane (Once Upon a Time) and Harry Shum Jr. (Glee) have all been cast as newbies at the hospital.

Grey’s Anatomy season 19 plot 

It wouldn’t be a Shonda Rhimes show if there wasn’t a heavy veil of mystery as it pertains to storylines and plots. So naturally, at this point, we don’t have a lot to report on what viewers can expect in the new season. 

However, if we again reference the season 18 finale, Grey’s Anatomy fans should expect to see Meredith trying to figure out how to serve in her new role as interim chief of surgery. Although, with news of Pompeo's reduced role in season 19, it seems likely she won't be at the helm of the hospital for long. 

Additionally, not only did Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) walk away from their jobs, but the residency program has been shut down and Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) are on the run from the police. To say Grey Sloan is short-staffed would be an understatement.

Other notable events from the finale that have set up interesting storylines heading into the season 19 premiere include the blossoming romance between Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Kai Bartley (E.R. Fightmaster) and the rollercoaster entanglement of Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack).

Why did Ellen Pompeo leave Grey's Anatomy?

Over the summer, it was announced that Pompeo would only be featured in eight episodes during season 19. Then on November 17, she took to Instagram to seemingly say goodbye to her iconic role. Take a look.

With that said, it appears Pompeo left to pursue other acting opportunities. She actually has a forthcoming show that takes her out of the realm of Shondaland. So admirers of Pompeo won’t have to wait long to see what's next from the actress. 

Now in terms of the character Meredith, she leaves Seattle behind for an opportunity in Boston to discover a cure for Alzheimer's disease. After Zola's (Aniela Gumbs) panic attacks about the possibility that her mother would one day succumb to the illness, the move, while speaking to her career ambitions, is rooted in her need to do what's best for her children. It once again proves that Meredith has surpassed Ellis Grey as both a physician and parent. 

What is Ellen Pompeo doing after Grey's Anatomy exit?

We should start by informing you that although Meredith's big goodbye on the series as a regular occurred on February 23, it won’t be the last time you see Pompeo in the season. She'll return as Meredith in the season 19 finale. Additionally, you can expect to still hear her voiceovers throughout the duration of the upcoming episodes. You can see her confirm as much in the clip below.  

Now as far as where you can expect to see Pompeo after Grey’s, the answer is Hulu. As reported by Deadline, she's starring in and executive-producing an Untitled Orphan Project on the streamer. The logline for the series reads as follows: 

"Inspired by the true story of the Midwestern couple who adopts what they believe is a little girl with dwarfism. As they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is. As they question her story, they're confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they're willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that's fought in the tabloids, the courtroom and ultimately their marriage." 

The eight-episode limited series follows the true story of Kristine Barnett and her ex-husband Michael Barnett, who were charged with neglect after allegations they abandoned their adopted daughter Natalia in 2013 when she was 9. The charges were later dismissed after the Barnetts claimed Natalia was a "mentally disturbed adult woman." Natalia herself has denied the accusations that she is a "grownup con artist."

As more information becomes available about the Hulu series, we'll be sure to pass along an update.

Although it seems like Grey’s Anatomy season 19 just started, the fall finale aired on November 10. When is Grey's Anatomy returning with new episodes?

It's going to be a while before fans can catch a new episode of Grey's Anatomy, as the show doesn't return until Thursday, February 23. In fact, all of ABC's Thursday programming, which also includes Station 19 and Alaska Daily, are not returning until February 23. 

This is a bit longer than a lot of other fall shows returning after a winter hiatus. Most shows on CBS, NBC, Fox and other ABC programs that aired this fall and are returning with new episodes coming back sometime in January.

All told, Grey's will be off TV for three full months before it returns with new episodes.

What happened in the Grey's Anatomy season 19 fall finale?

It appears that Grey’s fans will be holding that previously mentioned mixed bag of emotions for a while after the dramatic fall finale. 

What kind of emotions do you ask? 

For starters, many longtime are almost overwhelmed with sadness over the pending departure of Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). As teased in the promo for the series' winter premiere, "Meredith leaves Seattle." 

While Pompeo taking a hiatus from the show isn’t exactly a new revelation as it was reported over the summer, her forthcoming exit from the canvas is a monumental occasion. She is the last original intern left. Her peers have all moved on in their careers (with the exception of T.R. Knight’s George). It almost feels like the end of an era. 

Then there’s the fact that Meredith’s house caught on fire. A lot of show memories were created in that home. In fact, one could argue that there were just as many made there as there were in the actual hospital. Her house burning almost feels like a nail put in a theoretical coffin. 

However, before Meredith admirers go through a full meltdown, we have some good news. First, Pompeo is slated to physically appear in eight episodes this season. When the series returns with its new episode at the top of 2023, that will only be her seventh. As seen in the clip below, Pompeo herself states she will be back for the season 19 finale. Additionally, she promises to still be doing the voiceovers throughout the new episodes.

Now as far as her future on the series beyond season 19, we can't say for sure. On November 17, Pompeo took to Instagram to thank fans for being there with Meredith for 19 seasons. She closed her post by saying "... you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit."

Now Meredith going to Boston will cause quite the shakeup at Grey Sloan Memorial, and is already stirring up curiosity among the show's audience. The most pressing question fans have is who will become the new chief of surgery? With Bailey (Chandra Wilson) seemingly not ready to return to the role, you have to ask, "then who?"

Oh, and how can we forget about Nick (Scott Speedman). He only moved to Seattle because Meredith asked him to. Now with her moving to Boston, will he leave the residency program to follow her?

Meredith (Pompeo) has let everyone know over email that she is leaving Grey Sloan for Boston. Thankfully, everyone in the family is safe. 

We know that Pompeo was only signed on for eight episodes in season 19, so we can be sure that the hospital will try to give her a proper goodbye. The show definitely won’t be the same without her.

Are Lucas and Simone going to be more than friends?

Lucas (Niko Terho) and Simone (Alexis Floyd) have become good friends since they started the program. They've shared personal secrets, such as Lucas being a Shepherd and what's going on with Simone’s grandmother. After a difficult surgery, Lucas kisses Simone, who says she can’t go there. Fans definitely see the potential between the two and it's doubtful the spark will end here.  

Who will take Meredith’s place as chief of surgery?

While we don't have an answer to this yet, we can rule two candidates out: Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Owen (Kevin McKidd). Richard (James Pickens Jr.) asks Bailey, who immediately rejects the idea, wanting to run the clinic and spend time with her child. Owen asks to be considered, but Richard can't entertain the idea since he got his medical license taken away. At the end though, Owen suggests Teddy (Kim Raver) try to take on the role. Only time will tell if that's a possibility.  

When is Grey's Anatomy season 19 coming back?

By now, Shonda Rhimes fans know that whenever the worlds of Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) collide, there’s going to be some heart-wrenching drama ahead. Based on the trailer for the next Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy crossover airing on Thursday, November 10, beginning at 8 pm ET/PT, this new two-hour event will be no different. 

In addition to being another crossover event between the two shows, the episodes also serve as the midseason finale, as each goes on a long hiatus until 2023. 

Now if you're someone that's curious to know what to expect in the upcoming event, let's start with the promo video. Take a peek below. 

As seen, a dangerous lightning storm is headed to Seattle, and as ominously stated in the clip, "... tragedy strikes one of our own." Of course, the trailer offers zero clues as to which character from which series is in danger of being on the receiving end of such tragedy. Looking at the official synopsis for the Station 19 episode titled "Everybody Says Don't," which kicks off the crossover event, it states:

"When a lightning storm crashes a helicopter, the team is drawn away from hosting a fire boot camp for young women, and Natasha calls on Jack to help Vic run the camp instead. As the storm brews outside, things get even more heated inside between Carina and Maya."

The Grey’s Anatomy synopsis for the episode, "Thunderstruck," airing during the second hour of the crossover event reads: 

"On the heels of life-changing news, a thunderstorm hits Grey Sloan. The attending surgeons and interns work together to save an injured reporter and family affected by the storm.  Meanwhile, a beloved author undergoes a risky surgery, and complications from the storm arise."

Neither description exactly leaves major clues about what’s in store for the Grey Sloan and Station 19 teams. That only leaves us to make guesses about what may occur based on what’s been happening in the shows. 

From a Station 19 perspective, Maya’s (Danielle Savre) downward spiral and Jack’s (Grey Damon) inability to pull himself out of this mental funk have been the main focus of the season. Will Station 19 close out 2022 with one or both of the firefighters getting their lives back on track?

On the Grey’s side of things, fans have literally been on Meredith-watch, waiting to see how the veteran doc makes her exit from the series in light of the news Ellen Pompeo is only being featured in eight episodes this season. Now viewers know Meredith’s exit plan lies in her going to Boston to discover a cure for Alzheimer's and to help Zola (Aniela Gumbs) overcome her anxiety attacks. Hopefully the writers aren't amplifying that by adding tragedy to Meredith's experience. 

Long story short, you’ll want to make sure you’re tuned into the crossover event to see what happens.

Grey’s Anatomy season 19 episode 5 gave fans a delightful duo and familiar faces from the past. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Addison (Kate Walsh) teamed up for a road trip to volunteer at a family planning center, but naturally, there are complications. The interns are also trying to figure out what the relationship between Lucas (Niko Terho) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) is. But it was perhaps Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) trip to Boston that had fans talking the most as she meets up with Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams).

In season 17, fans said goodbye to Dr. Jackson Avery but were treated to a hopeful ending when he seemingly reunited with Sarah Drew’s April Kepner. Both actors made an appearance in last season’s finale and confirmed that the former couple is back together in Boston. 

While Williams returned for season 19 episode 5 to guest star and direct, Drew was unfortunately absent, which frustrated fans, who still want a spin-off. 

"I just don’t see the point in bringing back jackson without april ?? he moved to boston with her and their daughter, so how is he coming back without her ? they have so much room for interesting storylines with them but won’t take advantage of it. i don’t get it," one viewer expressed.

However, there was a small Japril moment that everyone noticed in the episode: an old picture of the couple was in their daughter’s new bedroom.

"The pic was in Samuel's nursery and now it is in Harriet's bedroom," someone else observed.

"Japril is alive and well," stated one tweet.

"The little horse in the background?? Remember the “they’ll ride horses at boarding school” comment Jackson made about how he and April would raise their kids.. yeah," a fan noted.

Lastly, audiences also praised Jesse Williams’ directing of the episode and were glad to see him take on this role while returning.

It’s Halloween night on Grey’s Anatomy season 19 episode 4, which means a very busy time for the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial. Levi (Jake Borelli) is being extremely overworked, especially because Winston (Anthony Hill) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) have all of the interns practicing trauma training on a real cadaver. Outside of the hospital, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Nick (Scott Speedman) are trying to be alone, but things don’t go as planned. 

This is definitely not the first Halloween episode of the ABC medical drama. It’s also not the first time we’ve seen interns do trauma training, which is a fun throwback for OG fans. But the storylines that got most of the reactions were more emotional ones and has some fans thinking they may have figured out how Meredith is going to bow out of this season (she’s only confirmed for eight episodes).

To start, we saw Zola (Aniela Gumbs) call her mom while having a panic attack at a sleepover. Meredith, of course, rushed to pick her daughter up with Nick before comforting her at the end of the episode.

"She had the worst mother in the world and she became a great mom, it helps that Zola is the best kid and the best big sister ever," one fan expressed.

A tweet shared, "Zola, I’ll pick you up from anywhere, anytime. Always.’ And now I’m a sobbing mess." 

"Zola is really struggling and I love that they are giving visibility to anxiety and mental health in general," noted one viewer. 

Some fans voiced the theory that this is how they will have Pompeo exit for this season:

"I called it at the beginning. They’re writing Mer out because of Zola needing special education and more challenges than what she is getting. It’s actually a good way to write her out," said another tweet.

Someone else wrote, "Mer is SUCH a great mom. Not looking forward to her leaving Seattle, but for the good of Zola…"

The other storyline that stood out was Simone opening up to Maggie about the racism she faced at her last hospital. 

"I feel for Simone, I’m glad Maggie talked to her. Like she said, she knows Simone is the intern to watch. I am so glad the show highlighted the fact we are hold to higher standpoint, no matter how hard we work," a fan explained.

"Maggie being there for Simone is all the Black Girl Magic we need! Maggie PERSONALLY understanding what Simone told her. Loving the Maggie & Simone moments," an audience member concluded.

If you’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy lately, then you know the show is going through a well-received renaissance. Not only are the new interns leaving quite the impression on viewers, reminding them of the early seasons, but the re-emergence of Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery is creating quite the nostalgia for a show in its nineteenth season. 

With all these reminders of yesteryear, some Private Practice fans are wondering if there is a chance the Grey’s spinoff is coming back to television, having last aired in January 2013. 

Shonda Rhimes and producing partner Betsy Beers recently took to Good Morning America and addressed the possibility of a Private Practice return. 

Speaking on the desire to continue on with the series, Rhimes stated, "I just felt like we had so much more to say with those characters and so much further to go, and that also felt like a show that had endless possibility." 

Adding in her two cents, Beers said, "There's many, many more possibilities to come with them."

While neither statement provides certainty that Private Practice has been greenlit to return to primetime or even a streamer, the fact both producers seem to have ideas about where the show’s characters could be a good sign. 

Now let’s say in a purely hypothetical world a Private Practice reboot was ready to launch. The next immediate question is would the original cast be on board to return? That’s where some things can get complicated. For starters, Taye Diggs, who played Dr. Sam Bennett, appears to be quite busy these days. Not only is he starring in The CW hit All American, but he’s also starring in the upcoming Peacock series The Best Man: The Final Chapters. 

Then there’s Caterina Scorsone. Her character Amelia Shepherd is currently a main staple of Grey’s Anatomy. We aren’t sure if the Grey’s writer’s room or show fans would want her to leave the longest-running primetime medical drama to return to the spinoff. 

We should also mention that a Private Practice revival may lack the main character Addison Montgomery. Sure, Walsh is back on Grey’s for now in a recurring capacity, but she’s been busy as well taking various supporting roles in shows like Emily in Paris. Who’s to say that she’d want to invest her time back in a leading lady role, especially given the news she calls Perth, Australia home? 

It looks like Private Practice fans will have to wait and see what happens with the show. But for now, you can stream the series on Netflix. 

While fans are still getting used to the new batch of Grey's Anatomy interns, an old favorite returned in Kate Walsh's Addison Montgomery. The world-renowned OB/GYN and neonatal surgeon made a surprise visit to Grey Sloan Memorial on Grey's Anatomy season 19 episode 3, "Let's Talk about Sex," and longtime Grey’s fans couldn’t have been more excited to see her. Not only did her arrival remind fans of the golden era of the series, but she also shook things up a bit for a few characters. 

For starters, the reason she popped back on the canvas was to work on a special social media campaign about sexuality with Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) at the hospital. It took Addison coming back to get Dr. Bailey to return to the hospital and actually do some work as a doctor (the latter made an appearance at the hospital in the season 19 premiere, but practiced absolutely no medicine). 

One could say Addison is responsible for reigniting Dr. Bailey’s passion for helping patients again, as the two’s collaboration led to the former chief of surgery reopening her old clinic at the hospital, but this time focusing on reproductive health. 

The OB/GYN’s return also had an effect on one of the new interns, Lucas Adams (Niko Terho). For weeks now, he’s been trying to hide from the rest of his intern class that he is the nephew of both Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), who are pretty much Grey Sloan legends at this point. He’s even gone so far as to let the other young doctors assume he and Amelia are involved in an inappropriate relationship. 

Well, someone didn’t clue Addison in on Lucas’ plans and she made the error of trying to single him out and talk with him, which Simone Griffin (Alexis Floyd) saw as strange. Eventually, with the power of intuition and Google, Simone pieced together who Lucas really is, which caused him to agree to a pact of sorts with her to keep his secrets. Although one can assume the other interns would have eventually figured out Lucas’ family tree, Addison’s arrival seems to have sped up this process. 

With Addison’s presence stirring things up for the doctors at the hospital, the question for viewers naturally becomes, how long is she staying? 

Is Addison Montgomery coming back to Grey's Anatomy?

In the world of the show, it seems that Addison is sticking around for a little while until her patient is in a good place in her recovery. But what does that mean for the character appearing in more episodes this season? Is Addison Montgomery back for good on Grey's Anatomy?

Looking to Variety, it appears Walsh's status has been listed by show producers as "recurring." While at the moment that means she won’t be featured in every episode for season 19, it does seem to signal viewers can expect to see more of her in her latest return arch than they did with her season 18 appearance.  

Grey’s Anatomy fans are loving Addison Montgomery’s return

New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy air in the US on Thursdays on ABC, and become available to stream the next day on Hulu. UK fans can start tuning into the new season on Disney Plus on October 26. 

This past summer was quite busy for the medical hit drama, Grey’s Anatomy. Not only did series star and executive producer Ellen Pompeo announce she would have a reduced role in the new season, but the show also announced a handful of series regulars that were added to the cast to play Grey Sloan Memorial’s new class of interns. Undoubtedly, they were brought on to help fill the void in Meredith Grey's upcoming absence. 

Speaking on the decision to bring on the new class of interns, Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff told Entertainment Weekly in September: 

"It's allowing us to get back to the early model of teaching and learning. To have five series regulars with the talent and chops and resumes that this group brings allows for storytelling focused on what it is to be a brand new surgeon again and how everything feels life and death and every mistake that you make could kill someone. And it just felt like the right moment."

With all of that said, viewers weren’t sure what to think of the idea of adding more interns to the show going into the new season. After all, since Meredith’s original group of interns graced the screen all those years ago, there have been several other classes of interns featured on the show, including Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli). 

So just how did the new class of interns fare in the season 19 premiere? 

We’d say they left quite the impression. The amount of attention paid to the interns in the first episode of the season made longtime viewers of the show reminiscent of the old days when Meredith, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and company roamed the halls of the hospital searching for ways to get into surgery, trying not to stick their foot in their mouths with attendings and, more importantly, doing their best not to kill any patients. 

There were definitely a few moments last night that reminded us of that young group of doctors from season 1. For example, when Jules (Adelaide Kane) realized she slept with her attending before her first official day on the job, that clearly drew parallels to how Meredith and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)
met. Speaking of McDreamy, it was a nice touch to find out that Lucas (Niko Terho), the intern that made the biggest blunder in the premiere, is his nephew. 

The audience also couldn’t help but get a sense that the writers were trying to give us flashbacks of an ambitious Cristina Yang with the baby surgeons. While at first, it seemed this person would be the sarcastic Mika (Midori Francis), it turns out that Benson "Blue" (Harry Shum Jr.) may actually be the most ambitious and even ruthless of the bunch. Not many people would make up a story about their brother dying just to convince a parent to donate their deceased child’s organs. 

As season 19 continues, there’s some anticipation to see how the new characters infuse more life into a drama that’s been on the air for nearly 20 years. 

Fans react to the new Grey’s Anatomy interns

The light blue scrub-wearing doctors seemed to be a hit among viewers. Take a look at some of the things they’ve been saying.  

Grey’s Anatomy season 19 airs live exclusively in the US on ABC, with episodes becoming available on-demand on Hulu. UK viewers will be able to watch new episodes on Disney Plus. 

As Grey's Anatomy season 19 officially launches, fans are already formulating several theories about what may happen in the coming episodes, especially in light of the news that Ellen Pompeo will have a reduced role in the show. The Grey’s audience isn’t sure whether they should be preparing to say goodbye to Meredith Grey or simply see you later. 

Well, after hearing the online chatter, doing some research and using our own knowledge of the series, we’ve developed our own thoughts about what we imagine will happen in Grey’s Anatomy season 19. If you had a chance to read our season 18 finale predictions, you’ll know that we’re pretty good at reading producers so far. 

Here are our predictions. 

1. Meredith leaves Grey Sloan to go soul searching

Despite Ellen Pompeo only signing up for eight episodes this season due to her commitment to film an upcoming Hulu series, we don’t believe season 19 is not going to be Meredith’s farewell. For starters, Deadline recently reported that Pompeo confirmed that viewers will still feel her presence throughout the season as she’ll continue doing the voiceovers in the episodes. 

Furthermore, Pompeo mentioned that she’ll be back to star in the season 19 finale, and stated "we’ll see if we can keep it going" when speaking about her future on the show. Hear for yourself. 

With all of that said, we’re making the bold prediction that to address Pompeo’s temporary absence on Grey’s that Meredith is going to leave to do some soul searching. In the season 18 finale, Richard (James Pickens Jr.) negatively compared Meredith to her mother and accused her of wanting to tear down the hospital after she unnecessarily took a risk that killed a patient. 

Although she’s been appointed interim chief of surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial, we think Richard’s words will weigh heavy on her, and with one bad surgery and a fatal outcome, everyone’s favorite doctor will go out in search of a new perspective in life. (Meredith taking a leave of absence wouldn’t be new in the Grey’s world, as viewers should recall when Derek quit the hospital in season 5) 

2. Addison stays on staff at the hospital just long enough for the residency program to get on its feet

By the end of season 18, Grey Sloan was a bit short-staffed. With Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) on the run from the authorities, Miranda (Chandra Wilson) quitting and Richard taking a leave of absence, the hospital could use a few attendings. 

Enter Addison Montgomery. It was announced this summer that portrayer Kate Walsh will be back in season 19 on a recurring status. 

Since leaving Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular, Addison has popped up several times whenever Grey Sloan has needed help. While she usually comes to the aid of the hospital at the request of Richard, it was clear last season that she and Meredith are not at odds despite being in that sordid love triangle with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) years ago. We foresee Addison returning to help her former foe in her time of crisis, just until the hospital reestablishes a solid foundation.  

3. Owen faces trial and receives consequences

Given Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver are returning to Grey’s for season 19, the question that immediately comes to mind is how? How will writers address the fact that Owen and Teddy are on the run for the crimes he committed last season? 

Since we’re guessing, we’d venture to say that viewers will see a few episodes in which the couple is in a hiding out in a home compliments of one of their old military buddies. Eventually though, they’ll realize that life on the run is not good for their kids, and Owen will agree to turn himself into the police. 

Next, we believe Owen will find himself in the midst of a criminal court case as he attempts to clear his name. Longtime fans will remember that when Meredith was on trial for insurance fraud, she managed to beat the charges against her and return to medicine. We don’t think Owen will meet the same fate. 

While we don’t think he’ll be serving a long stint in prison, we do imagine his medical license will be temporarily suspended.  

4. Miranda reclaims her job 

Having taken some time away from Grey Sloan, we think Miranda is ready to resume her duties as chief of surgery, and on her terms. Hospital personnel should beware. Gone are the days when attendings illegally medicated people off the books, when interns made knee-jerk decisions when treating patients and residents walked around the halls of the hospital as if they knew best. The new and improved Miranda will run a tighter ship with the mindset that her family is her family, and her employees are her employees. 

During her former tenure, the line between family and coworkers often blurred and that wound up not serving Miranda well in the long run. We think with a new mindset, she’ll continue to help the program rank back among one of the best in the country. What we can’t predict here is if her new approach will have some bad consequences for her relationship with her mentor Richard going forward.

5. The new crop of interns remind fans of season 1

Given the number of new hires to the Grey’s Anatomy cast (Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, Midori Francis, Adelaide Kane and Harry Shum Jr.) and the fact they were all hired as interns, its clear show execs are trying to recapture some of that season 1 magic when those in the light blue scrubs were at the forefront. Although producers obviously know viewers tune into the drama to catch up with the series vets, WTW believes they’ll hope to pull some of the audience’s attention to the new crop of would-be surgeons.

By the way, we also foresee that somehow, Richard and Meredith make amends, Link (Chris Carmack) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) finally become a real couple and Winston (Anthony Hill) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) see their relationship further derailed due to his Winston's mysterious and troubled brother. 

The new season of Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursday, October 6, at 9 pm ET/PT on ABC. The episode becomes available to stream the next day over on Hulu.

We had our summer fling with many TV shows (in particular The Old Man, Love Island USA, Only Murders in the Building and more), but it's now time to get into the heart of the US TV calendar, the 2022 fall TV season.

In addition to the changing of the season, fall brings a tidal wave of new and returning TV shows — on the four major networks (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC), the cable channels and the streaming services. Basically, there's going to be a lot to watch.

We've compiled a list of the TV shows we're most looking forward to watching this fall that run the gamut from sitcoms to dramas, reality to westerns, sci-fi, fantasy and more... So without further ado, let's get down to it.

90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 7 (on air, TLC/Discovery Plus)

With 90 Day Fiancé wrapped for another season, it’s time for 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 7. The spinoff series continues to showcase fan-favorite couples from the 90 Day Universe as they attempt to navigate their relationships post-nuptials. This season, viewers get to once again see Angela Deem screech Michael Ilesanm’s name for no rhyme or reason, Andrei Castravet duke it out in another few rounds with Elizabeth Potthast’s sisters and newcomers Bilal Hazziez and Shaeeda Sween figure out if a baby is in their future. 

In a rarity for the series, there is one couple this season that isn’t married nor have they gone through the K-1 Visa process. Referring, of course, to Big Ed Brown and Liz Woods. The couple actually met on another spinoff, 90 Day: The Single Life. 

On the topic of 90 Day: The Single Life, season 3 of the series premieres on Monday, September 12, and features returning cast members Debbie Johnson and Natalie Mordovtseva. Hopefully, these two ladies will find love this go around. — Terrell Smith  

Little Demon (on air, FXX)

There’s something really fun about how adult animation pushes the boundaries of storytelling in ways that wouldn’t work outside a cartoon world. That’s what makes Little Demon so much fun. In one corner you have mom Laura (Aubrey Plaza), who has worked for 13 years to protect her daughter, Chrissy (voice by Lucy DeVito), from the outside world because her father is the actual devil. 

When Satan — voiced by Danny DeVito — shows up to claim his offspring when the child comes of age, he’s delighted to discover that he has a daughter and that she’s willing to learn about her new powers despite her mom’s concerns. 

We’re excited about Little Demon because it’s well-written and raunchy. It doesn’t hold back on crass humor and it’s full of inside jokes and double entendres to keep you guessing. At the end of the day when you need to relax and unwind, it’s adult animation like this that proves to be the perfect thing to watch. — Sarabeth Pollock

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (September 2, Prime Video)

Fall 2022 may be the best time to be a fantasy fan on TV. Not only are we enjoying a return to Westeros with the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, but for the first time ever J.R.R Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings work is coming to television.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is based on Tolkien's writings (footnotes, appendices and songs) but covers events in an era of Middle Earth we’ve never seen before — the Second Age and the forging of the titular Rings of Power — that lead to the story we know so well. Even though we’ll have plenty of new characters and worlds to experience for the first time, fan favorites like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) are part of the series.

Amazon Studios reportedly spent $1 billion on The Rings of Power. It certainly looks it from the incredible visuals we’ve seen. But will that translate into an enjoyable TV series? We’ll see, but we have our fingers crossed. — Michael Balderston

Queen Sugar season 7 (September 6, OWN)

Ava DuVernay’s hit drama is gearing up for a royal goodbye, as Queen Sugar season 7 will be the series’ last. Knowing DuVernay’s incomparable knack for storytelling when it comes to dramas, it will be interesting to see how it all ends. Will Charlie (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) become a California politician and a star of her political party on the national stage? Will Nova (Rutina Wesley) be able to keep shining a light on police corruption if it continues to put her and her family in harm’s way?

Additionally, what will happen to the Bordelon farm? Given all that’s happening in the lives of the characters and the legacy of what that land means to them, will the family decide their ability to progress forward in their individual endeavors is hampered by their continued fight to keep their land? Or will they realize the land is always worth the fight? — Terrell Smith

The Serpent Queen (September 11, Starz)

From the network that gave us Outlander now comes the story of one of history’s most notorious female rulers. In The Serpent Queen, BAFTA-winner Samantha Morton becomes Catherine de Medici, the Italian wife of France’s King Henry II. 

This retelling of Catherine’s story makes the 16th century come to life through a modern lens. This edgy drama is historical fiction (like Reign or The Great), loosely tying historical events together in a package that’s easy for viewers to digest regardless of their knowledge of Catherine’s life or the events that made her a queen. 

What’s fun is that the show does not take itself too seriously, giving Morton all the space she needs to be devious and wicked but also strong and fierce, an unusual combination for a woman at that time. 

The all-star cast, including Charles Dance (Game of Thrones, The Sandman) and Colm Meaney (Star Trek: The Next Generation), make it must-see TV. — Sarabeth Pollock

Vampire Academy (September 15, Peacock)

The fall TV schedule is full of vampires and we’re here for it. Vampire Academy, based on the bestselling series by Richelle Mead, is coming to life in spectacular fashion under the watchful eye of The Vampire Diaries’ showrunner Julie Plec. 

Plec knows a thing or two about vampires, so there’s no doubt this show will have all of the angst and drama we’ve come to love and expect from her productions. 

Vampire Academy is the story of a reluctant vampire princess and her bodyguard, who also happens to be her best friend. Together, they struggle to fulfill the duties that are expected of them while carving out identities of their own. 

As a Peacock exclusive, Vampire Academy can do things that weren’t possible on The CW, giving the fledgling series the ability to feature more blood, violence and possibly gore (staples of vampire series, of course), as well as exploring the kinds of language and sexuality that wouldn’t pass TV censors. 

The Vampire Academy series came out around the same time as Twilight, which means there are lots of vampire fans of all ages out there looking forward to the series coming to life. — Sarabeth Pollock

Quantum Leap (September 19, NBC)

When Quantum Leap first debuted in 1989, it offered TV audiences something different with its ability to jump from place to place, era to era, with an ever-changing cast of characters supporting the show’s stars, Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. 

Modern audiences will get to see the show come to life again as Quantum Leap returns with Raymond Lee, Caitlin Bassett, Mason Alexander Park and Ernie Hudson leading the way. The new series is set 30 years after the original, with Lee’s Dr. Ben Song trying to learn about the Quantum Leap machine.

Like its predecessor, the new Quantum Leap will have a chance to transport its cast to new locations and new eras, giving the show a fresh new feel from week to week. Though risky, when done properly it can yield high rewards for TV audiences looking for something fresh and different in a primetime lineup that’s usually full of medical dramas and crime procedurals. — Sarabeth Pollock

Abbott Elementary season 2 (September 21, ABC)

Abbott Elementary was an instant hit with viewers (and us at What to Watch). The comedic genius that is Quinta Brunson created a fantastic sitcom that managed to differentiate itself from others in the current TV landscape with its unique comedic setups, Philly-based jargon and fresh take on what it's like to educate today’s minds.

When viewers last caught up with the teachers of Abbott Elementary, Janine (Brunson) was preparing to begin her newly single life. Although fans are hoping that means she’ll gravitate to Gregory (Tyler James Williams), given he appears to be dating Barbara’s (Sheryl Lee Ralph) daughter, we aren’t sure Janine and Gregory will become a couple any time soon. We’ll have to wait and see how that potential love triangle develops or fizzles. 

Oh, and we can’t forget everyone’s favorite principal Ava (Janelle James). Since she is no longer able to blackmail her supervisor, Abbott Elementary fans should expect her to do something truly unique in the coming episodes — actually do some work. — Terrell Smith

Law & Order: SVU season 24 (September 22, NBC)

Let’s hope this is the season on Law & Order: SVU that creator Dick Wolf finally listens to fans and explores the romantic side of the relationship between Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). Since Elliot has resurfaced in the Law & Order universe, the two have had incomplete conversations about their feelings for each other and after 23 seasons of this will-they-or-won’t-they dynamic, you figure it’s time they’d become a couple hashtag or something. 

We’re also hoping for an amazing sendoff for Detective Amanda Rollins. Rollins portrayer, Kelli Giddish, recently announced that season 24 of the series will be her last. So, it will be interesting to see how the character’s storyline wraps. 

Briefly pivoting back to Elliot, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that many fans are interested in seeing what his team over on Law & Order: Organized Crime has going on in their third season. Given he’s been undercover now for two seasons, we wonder what new alias he’ll take on. Law & Order: Organized Crime season 3 also premieres on Thursday, September 22, in a three-series Law & Order crossover event. — Terrell Smith

Interview with the Vampire (October 2, AMC)

Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe comes to life on AMC with the highly-anticipated adaptation of Interview with the Vampire starring Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) as Louis and Sam Reid (The Newsreader) as the vampire Lestat. Bailey Bass and Eric Bogosian round out the cast and put their own spins on Claudia and reporter Daniel Molloy. 

Though Interview with the Vampire was adapted into the 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, the new AMC series is a chance for the story to develop in greater detail, possibly spawning an entire universe based on Rice’s beloved characters. 

There are some changes from the books, but in the end these updates for a modern audience will likely strengthen the story as it expands into a full-blown universe. 

What we love is that it has all of the trappings of Rice’s world; lavish and decadent New Orleans sets and costumes that befit the Brat Prince and his vampire family.

The Walking Dead final episodes (October 2, AMC)

After 12 years and 11 seasons, The Walking Dead is coming to an end. The final season was divided into three eight-episode segments, with the last eight episodes of the season premiering this fall, with fans dying to know who makes it through to the end. 

Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) are the only two characters who have survived from the first season, along with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) who joined in season 2. Though all three have been tied to Walking Dead spinoffs after the main show ends, we don’t know where they’ll be when The Walking Dead wraps up. 

One cool thing about these final episodes is that they can’t have the ending as written in the original comic books, given that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) left the show in season 9 and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) was killed off in season 8. That means we’ll be guessing until the very end. That’s something to be excited about from a show that knows how to deliver big twists and unexpected turns. — Sarabeth Pollock

Grey’s Anatomy season 19 (October 6, ABC)

As a longtime Grey’s Anatomy fan, it would seem disloyal not to put this as a must-watch for the fall. Especially, when this could be Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) last season of the series. 

With the announcement that Pompeo’s only slated to be featured in eight episodes, we have a lot of questions about the nature of Meredith’s storyline. Is the OG of Grey Sloan readying herself for an exit and going to wind up taking the job in Minnesota? Or does Shonda Rhimes have one of her gut-wrenching deaths planned for a character that has already escaped death so many times before? Or is Meredith just going on a sabbatical to remember how she’s different from her ambitious mother professionally? 

Whatever the answer is to the Meredith mystery, this season is worth viewing. By the way, you also want to watch this season to figure out how Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy (Kim Raver) get out of their current legal troubles. — Terrell Smith

The White Lotus: Sicily (October, HBO)

It’s time to head back on vacation to The White Lotus, this time to the gorgeous Italian island of Sicily. However, if you’re familiar with the first iteration of The White Lotus, you'll know that a relaxing vacation is not likely in store for the characters in this new season.

An entirely new cast (save for the first season’s MVP Jennifer Coolidge) makes up The White Lotus: Sicily, including Aubrey Plaza, F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Haley Lu Richardson and Tom Hollander as some of the guests and Sabrina Impacciatore as the manager forced to deal with them.

We’ve never been rooting for a bad vacation before like we are with The White Lotus: Sicily. Hopefully, we get another darkly enjoyable outing from creator Mike White and company. — Michael Balderston

The English (November 11, Prime Video)

There have been a number of hugely popular TV shows in recent years that got their play first in the UK and we have another contender this fall with The English, a limited series western starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer.

The series sees an aristocratic Englishwoman (Blunt) and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout (Spencer) join together to cross the 1890 mid-America landscape, which is built on dreams and blood. They're heading for Wyoming, where a series of unsolved murders complicates their situation as well as shines a light on key elements of their past.

In addition to Blunt and Spencer, the series stars Stephen Rae, Valerie Pachner, Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Toby Jones and Ciarán Hinds.

The western has been experiencing a renaissance on US TV, between Yellowstone and other Taylor Sheridan projects, Outer Range and more. The English is the latest example of this trend but has a number of intriguing ingredients that could make it a standalone hit. — Michael Balderston

Yellowstone season 5 (November 13, Paramount Network)

To see how much Yellowstone has grown in popularity you only have to look at the fan reactions to the western drama receiving exactly zero 2022 Emmy nominations for season 4, despite it being one of the most-watched shows of the last year. So it should be no surprise that having the Duttons back on TV is one of the most anticipated events of the fall TV season.

Though the Sheridan-verse is growing with 1883, the upcoming 1923, Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone (another Paramount Plus original series also premiering on November 13) and more on the way, Yellowstone season 5 remains the flagship series. 

As the Duttons continue their fight to protect their land, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is going to be kicking his campaign for governor into high gear. The rest of the main cast — Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser and Kelsey Asbille — are all back for the latest season as well.

Whether it gets the awards or not, Yellowstone has become a phenomenon and season 5 is going to be appointment viewing (though it’s never too late to catch up with Yellowstone seasons 1-4). — Michael Balderston

The Crown season 5 (November, Netflix)

It’s a new season and a new Queen Elizabeth II for The Crown, as Imelda Staunton takes over as the third iteration of Britain’s sovereign ruler since the Netflix original series began. She follows in the footsteps of Claire Foy and Olivia Colman — those are not small shoes to fill, especially since both Foy and Colman received Emmys for their performances.

Staunton is not the only new member of The Crown as the series heads into the 1990s. Jonathan Pryce takes over as Prince Phillip, Dominic West assumes the role of Prince Charles, Olivia Williams moves forward as Camilla Parker Bowles and Elizabeth Debicki is the show’s next Princess Diana, picking up where Emma Corin left off. Johnny Lee Miller is Prime Minister John Major and Khalid Abdalla join the cast as Diana's lover, Dodi Al-Fayed.

As we move closer to current times, many of the events depicted in The Crown are going to be fresher in people’s minds, which should make for some interesting parallels. — Michael Balderston

The Best Man: The Final Chapter (December 22, Peacock)

The forthcoming The Best Man: The Final Chapter should excite all fans of the 1999 original film. The 10-episode series continues to follow the lives of Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs) and his longtime friends as they navigate the twists and turns that come along with getting further along in adulthood. 

When fans of The Best Man last caught up with the characters, it was in The Best Man Holiday, where the crew gathered for what would be the ultimate passing of Mia (Monica Calhoun). However, it was in her death that old wounds were healed and new pathways were created.

1923 (December, Paramount Plus)

Yellowstone may have taken some time to build up its current fanbase, but now that they’re there they are ready to watch anything related to the neo-western. Earlier this year that included the prequel series 1883, which followed members of the Dutton family as they made their way west and in 2022 they’re going to be able to watch 1923, the next chapter in the Dutton family saga.

Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren and with the great depression and westward expansion as its backdrop, 1923 looks to be another massive story. But Taylor Sheridan has shown he’s more than capable of portraying a deeply human and affecting story against the western landscape, which should make for some great TV. — Michael Balderston

Love Is Blind season 3 (TBA, Netflix)

Love is Blind has just become one of those reality dating shows that you can’t stop watching once you start. While it naturally draws its comparisons with shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette given it follows people in their quest to find love, it’s completely different in that it forces people to establish a romantic connection with someone without knowing what they may look like. 

Following a season in which no couple opted to stay together (even the two married couples recently announced their plans to divorce), there are some high expectations that Love Is Blind season 3 will help right the ship when it comes to building lasting relationships. 

Netflix has just announced that season 3 will be out this fall. We suspect Netflix will release more specific information on dates after the debut of Love is Blind: After the Altar season 2. — Terrell Smith

Wednesday (TBA, Netflix)

We’re ready to snap our fingers to the tune of Tim Burton’s Wednesday, The Addams Family spinoff coming to Netflix this fall. If we’re being honest, Wednesday Addams is the most compelling member of her spooky clan. Not only is she brilliant, but she’s got her mother’s grace and her father’s penchant for mischief. 

In the new series, Wednesday is kicked out of yet another school when she takes on her brother’s bullies. She’s sent to Nevermore Academy, the school where her parents met and fell in love. After an adjustment period, she finds that she’s going to fit in quite well at her new school. 

The Wednesday trailer absolutely sold us on Burton’s vision for the series. It’s dark but playful, sinister but self-deprecating in the best of ways. Star Jenna Ortega is so perfect for the role and Burton has given her the space she needs to put her own twist on the beloved character. And, in a first for the series, there’s also some blood and gore mixed into what’s being described as a murder mystery, giving Wednesday the space she needs to show what she can really do… — Sarabeth Pollock

How to watch Grey's Anatomy in the UK

Right now, the best way to stream all 17 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy in the UK is with Star on Disney Plus. Disney releases all of its older-skewing shows (that are shown on Hulu in the US) on Star internationally, including Grey’s Anatomy. You’ll find the first 17 seasons of the medical drama available on the platform, which you can subscribe to for just £7.99 a month, or £79.90 a year if you opt to pay annually. 

Expect season 18 to arrive on Disney Plus sometime in the future. 

Like her Grey’s Anatomy counterpart Dr. Teddy Altman, Kim Raver is a busy woman. Raver and her husband Manu Boyer are fresh off their roles as executive producers on the new Lifetime movie Suitcase Killer: The Melanie McGuire story, but she told People that she sees a future for Teddy on the long-running ABC medical drama after her departure at the end of season 18.

Raver’s Teddy and Kevin McKidd’s Dr. Owen Hunt were last seen fleeing Seattle on a plane, their two kids in tow after Hunt gave pills to veterans to help them take their own lives. Though assisted suicide is legal in Washington, the situation didn’t fit the criteria for it and so is viewed as illegal. 

There’s no question the doctors were leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in the rearview mirror, but Raver hedged about whether that was the last time viewers saw Teddy. 

“I mean, I hope that’s not the way we’re ending it. There is still a lot to be told with those two,” she said, indicating that Teddy’s future might be more open-ended than it looked. 

“But you never know,” she continued. “You have to keep everyone sort of wanting to tune in at the end of September. I just think there are still stories to be told.”

Raver certainly understands how Grey’s Anatomy works, having spent several years on the show before leaving in 2012 and returning in 2017. Grey’s Anatomy is like the grand central station of primetime dramas, welcoming new and returning cast members while saying goodbye to others on a regular basis. 

In the early days of the show, characters were killed off at an alarming rate. Now, though, even characters who have died are able to return in flashbacks, dreams and coma sequences. Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) time in a COVID-19 coma allowed her to reunite with several beloved characters who had passed on. 

For now, Raver is focusing her attention on producing movies with her husband. “I feel like we bring out the best sides in one another. And I just feel so lucky to have his expertise.”

It turns out that while we were all focusing on the future of Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) at the hospital that raised her, we should have been paying closer attention to the other characters in the series. Grey’s Anatomy season 18 ends with a number of doctors we’ve come to love fleeing the hospital in search of relaxation, peace and in some cases, freedom.

So first things first, Meredith is staying at Grey Sloan Memorial after all. Having decided to perform a risky procedure against Richard Webber's (James Pickens Jr.) wishes and the patient subsequently dying, her actions leave a bad taste in the mouth of a member of the Medical Accreditation Council. Plus, her decision was just one more disaster that Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) couldn’t bear to deal with at that moment. What happens next? 

Well, in part due to her "unnecessary" approach to surgery, the residency program at the hospital is shut down and Miranda turns in her resignation as she gives Meredith the keys to the chief of surgery office. (Right on cue,  moments later "Chasing Cars" plays in the background; the song has become synonymous with death and goodbye on Grey's.)

Anyway, back to Miranda. She told Meredith very clearly that she quits. However, did that mean she no longer wants to be chief? Or she no longer wants to be a doctor at Grey Sloan at all? If she did quit the hospital as a whole, is this a  permanent decision or a temporary spur-of-the-moment reaction to all the current drama? After all, Meredith seemingly told Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) she would serve as "interim chief of surgery" until Miranda came back.  

We aren’t sure about the former chief’s future on the series, but Deadline quoted show creator Shonda Rhimes saying in reference to season 19, "I couldn’t be more excited that we get to keep telling the stories of Meredith, Bailey, Richard and all of the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial for another season." Sounds like Miranda could be back, but we shall see in what capacity. 

Richard was another one that figuratively went off into the sunset. With the much-welcomed news that the cancer treatment on his wife was working, he and Catherine (Debbie Allen) decided to go on a sabbatical of sorts. The two certainly deserve to celebrate this health win and with the residency program suspended, it seems like the perfect time. 

However, the concern going forward for Richard’s tenure at the hospital is whether he’d be willing to work for Meredith should he return. The two weren’t exactly hugging it out in the finale. In fact, he accused her of purposefully destroying the residency program and as an insult, likened her to Ellis. We aren’t sure of his status at Grey Sloan going forward, but again referring to the Deadline article, he’s teased to be around next season. But let’s not pretend Shondaland doesn’t love blindsiding viewers with surprising twists. 

If we were betting people, we’d say the characters most likely to be offscreen come the fall are Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver). The two were forced into turning in their resignations and are literally on the run after Owen’s theft of hospital drugs and role in physician-assisted deaths came to light. 

Now contractually speaking, McKidd and Raver signed multi-year deals in 2020 to stay on at Grey’s Anatomy, according once more to Deadline. Even with that being the case, it’s hard to imagine how their characters return to their jobs considering the crimes they committed and the fact the hospital is in such a fragile state. We will just have to watch and see what happens. 

Allow us to take this last opportunity to say "we told you so." While all of our predictions for the finale did not prove to be correct, we were certainly right about Meredith and her star power being the possible key to saving the hospital and her ascension to the chief of surgery position. We also want to humbly brag that we knew Bailey was going to seek some peace in her life and be fine no longer holding onto that title. Furthermore, we had a hunch the show’s writers couldn’t be so cruel as to kill off another great love of Richard’s life.

The two-hour Grey’s Anatomy season finale is here, and we have so many questions. Will Meredith leave? Will the residency program be shut down? And what are two  Grey's anatomy vets doing back?  (We've made our predictions about the answer to these questions in case you're wondering.)

The season 18 finale of Grey’s Anatomy happens to be split into two parts. The first episode titled "Out for Blood" airs Thursday, May 26, at 8 pm ET/PT, and here is the synopsis: 

"Due to a blood shortage, Grey Sloan Memorial sets up a voluntary donation center. Nick asks Meredith for help with his patient. Winston is hung up on his relationship with his brother."

The second episode airs at 9 pm ET/PT and is titled "You Are My Blood." Here is the episode synopsis:

"The blood shortage continues. Meredith makes a risky decision regarding a patient. Owen's actions to help his fellow veterans come to light."

When is the Grey's Anatomy season 18 finale? 

The two-hour Grey’s Anatomy season 18 finale airs on Thursday, May 26.  

Who’s in the Grey’s Anatomy cast?

As season 17 was winding down, so was series lead Ellen Pompeo’s contract. It was unsure whether or not she would sign up for another season as Meredith Grey, so showrunner Krista Vernoff said in interviews that she had two versions of the season 17 finale ready to go depending on if Pompeo would not return and it needed to serve as a series finale.

Pompeo did come to an agreement to return, so that crisis was averted and she is back for Grey’s Anatomy season 18. However, her contract is only for one year; it’s possible that whole song and dance will happen once again.

Other original cast members that signed new contracts to return include Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. Another longtime cast member, Jesse Williams, opted to not return for season 18 after 12 seasons on the show.

Kevin McKidd, Camilla Luddington and Kim Raver are also confirmed to return for the new season.

We've also gotten news of new cast members joining Grey’s Anatomy. Deadline has reported that Peter Gallagher (The O.C., Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist) will join the show in a recurring role as Dr. Alan Hamilton. His character has a connection with Kate Burton's Ellis Grey, Meredith's late mother; Burton is also expected to appear in multiple episodes in season 18.

Some former cast members are set to return to the series for a multi-episode arc as well, with Deadline separately reporting that Kate Walsh has signed on for season 18 to once again play the character of Addison Forbes Montgomery, while Abigail Spencer will return as her character Megan Hunt.

UPDATE 3/3: Variety has reported that Pitch Perfect and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist star Skylar Astin will join Grey's Anatomy in a recurring role starting with the episode on March 24. Astin is set to play Todd Eames, who will serve as a potential love interest for Camilla Luddington's Jo Wilson.

How to watch Grey's Anatomy

With Grey’s Anatomy airing on ABC, it is pretty simple for anyone to watch if they have access to live TV channels. One of the four major networks, ABC is available in all U.S. TV markets and offered as part of essentially all traditional cable/satellite pay-TV providers. In addition, TV signals from local ABC stations can be received by consumers using a TV antenna. The network is also available via live TV streaming services like Fubo TV, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV.

Subscribers to either a traditional pay-TV service or one of the compatible live TV streaming services will also have the ability to watch the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy on-demand via ABC.com, where episodes are made available the day after they air on TV.

Was Grey's Anatomy renewed for another season? 

Don't worry, Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for another season, extending its record as the longest-running medical drama on primetime television. 

The Grey’s Anatomy season 18 finale is upon us and fans should anticipate quite the show. For starters, the episode airing on Thursday, May 25, at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC is a two-hour event, so you’ll want to make sure you plan accordingly. 

There’s also the fact that the finale will mark the 400th episode of the series. Perhaps it shouldn’t surprise us the medical drama has reached that milestone considering this is season 18, however, something about seeing that number in black and white makes us think about how old we're all getting. If you've remained a loyal fan through all 400 episodes, feel free to give yourself a pat on the back.

In addition to Thursday being finale night and a celebration of such a momentous occasion, fans of the series have another reason to be excited because a pair of Grey’s Anatomy vets are returning — Jesse Williams as Dr. Jackson Avery and Sarah Drew as Dr. April Kepner. 

When we last caught up with the two, they were packing up their daughter and headed for a new life in Boston where Jackson would take over the Catherine Fox Foundation and April would seemingly assist him. Although when they left they were still divorced but friendly co-parents, the chemistry between the two hinted they’d eventually reunite romantically.

From what we can gather in the promo, Jackson and April’s visit to Grey Sloan looks as if it was prompted by the Medical Accreditation Council's looming decision. The council is preparing to make a final determination on the hospital’s residency program. Given Jackson and April represent the Catherine Fox Foundation and Grey Sloan is a hospital under the foundation, it’s no surprise they’d want to show up and do what they could to save the program. 

However, it’s completely possible that the two are resurfacing not just for the hospital but for Jackson’s mother as well. Catherine (Debbie Allen) is still battling cancer and recently started a new course of treatment. So, the former series regulars could be back to support her. 

Regardless of their reasons for showing up, as a fan, we’re just happy to see them. With all the new blood walking the halls of Grey Sloan, it’s always good to see doctors from the series’ golden era.

Is Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) actually going to pick up and move to Minnesota? Is the residency program at Grey Sloan Memorial going to be permanently shut down? Also, is someone else about to leave the series?

Will Meredith leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital? 

Meredith may have agreed to leave Seattle for a position in Minnesota as director of The Grey Center and chief of General Surgery, but her departure is not a done deal yet. Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) have certainly been laying on the guilt in an attempt to get her to stay. Her own daughter Zola (Aniela Gumbs) doesn't seem that thrilled about the possibility of moving. 

Their reactions point to the fact Meredith has built a community in Seattle. She's longed referred to the hospital as her home and to her colleagues as extensions of her family. Even when she relocated to Boston after the death of Derek, she wound up returning. 

But then again, in a recent episode, Richard describes Seattle as "haunted" because everywhere Meredith looks "there's a memory." 

Dr. Grey has suffered the loss of many loved ones and has almost died at least six times in connection to Grey Sloan. She has plenty of reasons to want a fresh start somewhere else. That fresh start could be with her new love, Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), whose job is already in Minnesota. 

Prediction: Meredith stays at Grey Sloan for the foreseeable future. 

Pompeo has been coy about how involved she is going to be in Grey's Anatomy season 19, specifically in People, so it's possible she'll be exiting the show sometime next season and that transition starts with Meredith heading to Minnesota. At the end of the day though, Meredith's ties are too strong in Seattle for her to leave. Plus, the hospital that professionally raised her is struggling to maintain its residency program. Something tells us her high profile as a world-class surgeon is the key to saving it. Oh and Nick seems like he wouldn’t mind relocating. 

Will Grey’s resident program shut down?  

We were shocked when the Medical Accreditation Council placed Grey Sloan’s residency program on probation. This decision was based on the fact the hospital doesn’t have enough surgeons on staff to be a teaching facility. Sadly, Miranda doesn’t seem to have hired any additional surgeons, with the exception of employing Nick as temporary staff and roping Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) into occasionally adorning the navy blue scrubs. 

However, looking at the trailer above, Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) appear to be returning, but we don’t know for how long. 

Prediction: The residency program doesn’t shut down but doesn’t remain the same. We think instead of going to Minnesota, Meredith will start her own revolutionary research center at Grey Sloan. By doing such, the general surgeon will use her star power and new addition to the hospital as a way of luring physicians to work in Seattle. Her first "recruitees" we imagine will be Nick and Dr. Kai Bartley (E.R. Fightmaster). 

In her new imagined role, we wouldn’t be surprised if Meredith becomes the chief of surgery. Her being the head doctor in charge seems like the next logical transition for her. 

We realize that leaves Miranda pushed out of her job. But honestly, she seems miserable in an administrative role. Returning to her roots of just focusing on surgery may be good for her and may bring back the lighter side of Bailey. 

Will a character from Grey’s Anatomy die in the finale?  

Grey’s Anatomy has been hinting in the last few episodes viewers may want to brace for a possible death in the finale. 

Looking at Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen), her cancer seems to be progressing. While she has recently enrolled in a new trial, Richard basically told her she didn’t have to put herself through rigorous treatments for him. Catherine could be gearing up to exit the canvas? (Though it seems a bit cruel for Richard to lose another love of his life.)

Then there's Dr. Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill). In his last conversation with his brother, things took an ominous turn. Winston scolded him because he was fearful that the loan sharks after his sibling could seek to harm Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and his new family as a way to get to him. The brother may have left, but it seems like there could still be danger coming to the series. 

Prediction: Those loan sharks after Winston’s brother surface in Seattle and an innocent party gets caught in the mix. This could be a long shot, but we think it's Winston who will be murdered. His death would be a crushing blow to Maggie and she would need the support of Amelia and Meredith, as both are her sisters and have gone through the loss of a significant other. Maggie’s potential need for Meredith’s support would serve as another reason for the latter to stay put at Grey Sloan.

While some mentioned are worse than others, here are 10 TV and movie moms that should make you better appreciate your own this Mother’s Day (in no specific order).

1. Dr. Ellis Grey (Grey’s Anatomy)

Dr. Ellis Grey (Kate Burton), famed surgeon and mother to Grey’s Anatomy Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), was not the kind of mother to sing lullabies, bake cookies for Christmas or give warm inspiring pep talks. Actually, on most occasions when viewers were treated to the Ellis and Meredith dynamic, the former was chastising the latter (one particular moment had Ellis ripping into her daughter with one word — ordinary.  

2. Kate McCallister (Home Alone)

We’re sure there will be people who question why Kate McCallister (Catherine O'Hara) is on this list. But let’s be honest, the Home Alone mom is more than a bit neglectful. She lost Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) not once but twice. 

Let's focus on the very first Home Alone film.  Kate got into a van to go to the airport, checked into her flight and went through security and yet she didn’t notice Kevin was gone. You'd think sometime between her leaving the house and her walking on the plane that Kate would realize that she was short a kid. 

Wonder if Moira Rose from Schitt's Creek would have left David?

3. Monica Gallagher (Shameless)  

Monica Gallagher (Chloe Webb) most certainly earned her spot on this list. The mother of seven never took to the maternal role. However, it's probably hard to do a lot of mothering when you’re in a toxic on-again-off-again relationship with the likes of Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy), are heavily abusing drugs and aren’t around your offspring for most of their lives. 

Then in Monica's farewell to her kids, she tried to make amends and leave each of them a pound of meth to sell. That’s not exactly a grandmother’s necklace or a great-aunt’s vase, heck, it's not even legal, but it was on-brand for her.

4. Joan Crawford (Mommie Dearest) 

Let’s be clear, we're arguing Faye Dunaway’s portrayal of Joan Crawford, not Crawford herself. With that being said, how can the film depiction of Joan Crawford not be mentioned? To this day, we as viewers of Mommie Dearest, still won’t entertain having a wire hanger in our closet.  

5. Maya Lewis (Scandal) 

When Scandal fans found out that the mother of Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) was still alive, they were hopeful she was the sane parent — between her and Eli Pope (Joe Morton). Then, Maya Lewis (Khandi Alexander) came on the scene — a homicidal terrorist that was loyal only to herself. Suddenly Eli looked like Mike Brady from The Brady Bunch. 

Even when Oliva was abducted, Maya refused to help the Gladiators rescue her daughter until they placed a flat-screen television in her prison cell. 

6. Margaret White (Carrie, 1976)  

While there have been other versions of Margaret White, Piper Laurie’s portrayal of the character in the 1976 Carrie is, so far, unmatched. From the constant chastising of her daughter Carrie (Sissy Spacek) to beating her with books,  showing her zero compassion about being bullied at school to even locking Carrie in a closet, Margaret was a horrible mother. Let’s not forget, that she’s the only one on this list who actually attempted to murder her child.  

7. Cersei Lannister (Game of Thrones)

Prior to Tommen Baratheon (Dean-Charles Chapman) ascending to the throne, there was an argument to be made that Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) was a good mother. Sure she had a hand in the murder of several Game of Thrones characters and found pleasure in tormenting the Stark family. But there was no one she loved more than her kids and she was fiercely protective of them. Then Tommen started to rebuff his mother’s influence and allowed her to be locked up by the Sparrows. Big mistake!

Cersei made the cut on this list because once she regained her freedom, she went on a mission of vengeance and didn't care if her youngest son was collateral damage. Is it us or did she not seem that broken up with Tommen’s death? Or at least in comparison to when she lost her other two children.

8. Mary Jones (Precious) 

There’s a sense of irony here that Mo'Nique won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress playing the absolute worst mother. The character of Mary Jones was highly abusive to her daughter Precious (Gabourey Sidibe). Mary set up roadblocks for Precious to go to school, physically fought her daughter, hurled insults at her grandson and even blamed Precious for being a victim of assault at the hands of the teenager’s own father. 

We’d like to offer a redeeming quality of Mary’s mothering, but are unable to do so. 

9. Lucille Bluth (Arrested Development) 

For those fans of Arrested Development, allow us to say now that there is no Buster Bluth (Tony Hale) here to defend the reputation of Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter). Although she was arguably the most entertaining character on the television sitcom, she was not a great mom. 

Lucille constantly nitpicked Lindsay’s (Portia de Rossi) appearance, manipulated Michael (Jason Bateman), babied poor Buster until he was like a turtle afraid to go outside his shell and she barely gave Gob (Will Arnett) the time of day.

10. Norma Bates (Psycho/Bates Motel) 

To be fair to the character of Norma Bates in the original 1960 Psycho, she wasn’t actually that "evil" or manipulative, given she was.... (spoiler) already dead. Instead, it was "Mother," Norman Bates’ (Anthony Perkins) alter ego that was a crazed murderer. He was unconsciously killing people as his mother would do, so his other persona thought.

In the AMC series, Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) started out alive and well, but she was incredibly manipulative of Norman (Freddie Highmore). However, Norma’s most heinous crime as a mom is she didn’t get her son help soon enough. Norman was definitely deranged and had she allowed a therapist to adequately help him early on, perhaps he wouldn’t have gone on to murder several people — as "Mother." 

We believe in celebrating fabulous women on screen all year round but there’s something rather fitting too about casting an eye over our favorites for Women’s History Month. There are far more than we could possibly feature here but we’ve picked out some of the iconic female double acts in movies and on TV, that make us laugh, cry and cheer them on. 

Thelma and Louise, Thelma & Louise (1991)

Why they made the list: one of the most iconic female pairings on-screen, Thelma (Geena Davis) and her best friend Louise (Susan Sarandon) burst onto the big screen in Ridley Scott’s 1991 film of a girls’ road trip that goes wrong. Even now, decades later, it’s rare to see women at the center of their story unrepentant and unbowed. Although obviously, Thelma and Louise make some “dubious choices” and become fugitives on the run, there’s a power in their decision to choose each other and freedom, no matter what the circumstances.

Issa and Molly, Insecure

Why they made the list: the friendship between Issa Dee (played by writer and creator, Issa Rae) and Molly Carter (played by Yvonne Orji) was the throughline of the entire series. From being best friends in the early seasons to their messy feud in Insecure season 4 and all the way to their reconciliation in the final season they’ve been the relationship fans have been pinning their hopes on. This scene in the finale says everything about Molly and Issa’s friendship. It’s Molly’s wedding, the pinnacle of romantic love, but the most touching exchange is between the BFFs.

“Thank you so much for everything, Issa,” Molly says. “For being you, for loving me while I was me. And girl, I don’t know where life is gonna take us, but I just know that as long as you’re around, I’ma be OK.”

“Yeah,” Issa replies, tearfully. “Me too.”

Cher Horowitz and Dionne Davenport, Clueless (1995)

Why they made the list: for the sheer joy, energy and color that Cher and best pal Dionne bring to the world in Clueless, they’d always be high up on our list of favorite fictional characters. What makes them dead certs for this list of female duos is how well they work as a team — being supportive, teasing each other affectionately, providing encouragement in their goals and, most importantly, coordinating outfits so, so well. We stan.

Jess and Jules, Bend It Like Beckham (2002)

Why they made the list: featuring a very young Keira Knightley as sports-mad Jules and Jess (Jesminder), Bend it like Beckham is a clash of cultures as the values of Jess’ strict Sikh Indian upbringing come into conflict with her desire for a more Westernised lifestyle, a boyfriend and a chance to play football at the professional level. Both Jess and Jules face issues with not living up to what their parents want them to be. It’s this shared experience and their love of football (soccer) that bonds them so tightly. Minor squabbles aside, they only want the best for each other and they’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Meredith and Cristina, Grey’s Anatomy

Why they made the list: although Grey’s is known for its romantic drama (with a little medical drama tucked in) the relationship between Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) is still a fan favorite, despite Yang having left Seattle Grace/Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital almost a decade ago. Despite seemingly being very different personalities Cristina and Meredith were the heart of the show, inseparably each other’s “person”. As Cristina puts it,

“She’s my person. If I murdered someone, she’s the person I’d call to help me drag the corpse across the living room floor. She’s my person.”

We couldn’t put it better ourselves, Ms. Yang.

Ruth and Idgie, Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)

Why they made the list: Ruth Jamison and the wonderfully named Idgie Threadgoode were first found in Fannie Flagg’s novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, then adapted for the big screen starring a jam-packed cast of female talent from Mary Stuart Masterson (Idgie), Mary-Louise Parker (Ruth), Kathy Bates (Evelyn) and Jessica Tandy’s Ninny Threadgoode. Although the friendship that develops between Evelyn’s downtrodden housewife and Ninny — the senior citizen she meets in a care home — is touching it’s the lifelong, loving friendship between Idgie and Ruth that strikes a chord with the millions who’ve watched this movie. Idgie and Ruth would, literally, do anything to protect each other. Ruth helps Idgie find her way to life back after her brother, Buddy, dies and Idgie rescues Ruth from a physically abusive marriage. True soulmates.

French and Saunders

Why they made the list: this ground-breaking and award-winning comic pair — Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French — first hit UK screens in their self-titled sketch show in the 1980s. The comedy show ran for six series and built up huge audiences due to the pair’s knack for irreverent, clever humor and their specialty — parodies of films, TV shows and pop culture icons. The show only stopped because the pair decided they wanted to work on other things (Dawn French going on to start in the Vicar of Dibley and Saunders writing and starring in the hit show, Absolutely Fabulous).

The comedy duo recently reunited for 300 years of French and Saunders (Britbox) and French and Saunders will also be back in a special appearance for the BBC’s Red Nose Day charity appeal.

Susan and Nancy, Spy (2015)

Why they made the list: watching this initially hapless pair (a wisecracking Miranda Hart and foul-mouthed Melissa McCarthy)  transform from pratfalling wannabe spies into a dynamic duo is a wonder to behold. Overlooked and underestimated by everyone in the movie, Susan and her sidekick Nancy have each other’s backs and through street smarts, self-belief, sheer force of will and a LOT of luck, we’re cheering them on from our seats, as they win the day.

Pitch Perfect star Skylar Astin is set to join the cast of Grey's Anatomy season 18 later this month, it has been confirmed.

As revealed by Variety, Skylar Astin will be portraying a new recurring character called Todd Eames. His character arc will begin in the episode titled Put the Squeeze on Me, which is set to air on March 24.

According to a logline released by ABC representatives, Todd Eames is set to be a "charming" addition to the cast. It reads: "Charming and handsome with a gentle soul, Eames holds a Ph.D. in environmental sciences and loves a good spreadsheet. He is close with his sister, who is a pregnant patient at Grey Sloan Memorial."

Where and when Todd will fit into the new series is being kept a secret. Perhaps his arrival will help the fans come to terms with that shocking crossover episode with Station 19...

Skylar Astin is probably best known for playing Jesse Swanson, the lead male character in the first two Pitch Perfect movies opposite Anna Kendrick. More recently, he's played Greg Serrano in the final season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Max Richman on NBC's Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas on The Roku Channel, and he's the voice of Branch in DreamWorks' Trolls franchise. 

Skylar is also a well-known stage actor, having originated the role of George in Spring Awakening on Broadway and playing the lead role in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying at the Kennedy Center in 2018.

In other Grey's Anatomy news, recently we learned that the beloved medical drama would be coming back for its 19th season.

The anticipated Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 crossover hit our screens on Thursday, and fans were shocked by an unexpected departure.

In the teaser trailer, it looked like the episode was set to focus on Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) after he was involved in a car crash where he slid down a cliffside, and it was touch and go. But thankfully for the doctor, he survived the ordeal and is currently recovering.

However, it turns out we will be saying goodbye to another cast member after all as Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) announced his exit from the show, when he gave Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) his notice during the most recent episode, No Time to Die.

This decision has devastated Grey's fans, who really wanted Cormac to stay, and some even said they'd have preferred it if Owen had died and left the show rather than Cormac!

Many have taken to Twitter to have their say, talking about Cormac's character and how much they will miss him.

Richard Flood joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in season 16, where Cormac was introduced as being a potential love interest for the head of general surgery Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). 

Currently, Cormac is the Head of Pediatric Surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and has quickly become a fan favorite due to his sense of humor, and his kindness towards his young patients. However, he can also be pretty opinionated and stubborn too and is still struggling with the death of his wife.

Fans won't get to see much more of Cormac unfortunately, as Deadline reports that next week will be the surgeon's final episode. 

According to Deadline's summary: "Hayes handed Bailey his resignation and told her that he was returning to Ireland with his kids. His decision was prompted by Owen’s request in the winter finale for Hayes to carry on with his initiative of providing dying soldiers with drugs in doctor-assisted deaths."

Faced with this moral dilemma, plus wanting to step up and be there for his children more, Cormac's made his decision to leave and head back home. But will he drop in for a cameo any time in the future? We'll have to wait and see...

Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 fans have a lot to look forward to as the newest crossover event is upon us. The last time the two Seattle-based dramas collided was in November 2021 when stations 19 and 23 were called out to attend to a gas main explosion.

Now, we've got another crossover on our hands as we'll see the Station 19 crew trying to save Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) whose car fell off a cliff after a collision. Also in the car were his wife Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Dr. Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood).

The trio had gone to retrieve an organ donation for Owen's nephew, the adoptive son of his sister who was once thought dead but had actually been kidnapped by the Taliban for years during their time in the war.

As well as this, we'll be introduced to new Fire Chief Natasha Ross (Merle Dandridge) who has a past with Robert Sullivan, the former Battalion Chief of the Seattle Fire Department (Boris Kodjoe).

There are plenty of unknowns that fans will no doubt want answers to, so we've put together five unanswered questions to ponder over ahead of the new episode...

Will Owen Hunt survive the crash?

Obviously, the number one concern for Station 19 is rescuing Owen after his car slid down a cliff following a shocking crash. His fate is currently unknown and the teaser doesn't give much away either, only that he is in a critical condition. But can he be saved or is it too late for the Head of Trauma?

What's going on with Natasha Ross?

We know that Natasha is the first female Fire Chief at the Seattle Fire Department, but so far we don't know much else about her. She does have links to Robert Sullivan, though, as in the trailer it is revealed that they have not seen each other in 15 years. But is their connection romantic or purely platonic, and will them working together again create any tension?

Is there a future for Amelia and Link?

The relationship between Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Atticus "Link" Lincoln (Chris Carmack) is complicated, as they have a son together but Amelia seems unwilling to commit to him.  Link kept proposing but Amelia wasn't ready for marriage, and now things are getting even more confusing after Link saw her kissing neuroscientist Kai Bartley. 

Things aren't looking good for Amelia and Link, but might we see them reconnecting down the line? We'll have to wait and see...

How is Andy going to react to Ross and Sullivan's reunion?

Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) is the estranged wife of Sullivan, so she might not be pleased when new Fire Chief Ross arrives on the scene. If these two have a history, it could create some romantically charged drama in the middle of an already high-stress environment. Will the three be able to work together, or is it just not sustainable? 

How will the Station 19 team move on from Dean Miller's death?

Firefighter Dean (Okieriete Onaodowan) died in shocking scenes last time the two programmes crossed over, following a gas explosion where he was pronounced dead on the scene. He was known for being a charming and passionate character, with a hero mentality, and the aftermath of his death will no doubt take a toll on his colleagues who have to go on without him.

If you’ve ever checked out a “must-watch” television series, you’ve likely seen something with Shonda Rhimes’ seal on it. Rhimes, a producer and screenwriter, has become a household name thanks to hits like the groundbreaking political drama Scandal and the long-running medical series Grey’s Anatomy.

Though Rhimes has left her deal at ABC to walk the yellow brick road at Netflix, it didn’t take long for her to find the same level of success. Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos summed it up best: “Shonda knows how to entertain, knows how to get people thinking and knows how to craft a story better than anyone I’ve ever dealt with.” He even told The Hollywood Reporter that Grey’s has logged the most viewing hours of any single show on Netflix. So it's hardly surprising that she's become TV’s highest-paid showrunner in the process of putting out such hugely popular work.

Grey's Anatomy is just one in a very long line of shows from Shondaland — the television company that Rhimes founded. But where does it sit among the rest of her credits? We’ve ranked Shonda Rhimes’ TV shows, from scrappy outsider to primetime smash.

9. Still Star-Crossed

If you were always curious about what happened after the deaths of Romeo & Juliet, this period piece aimed to answer that question while building on the world first created by playwright William Shakespeare.

Rosaline Capulet was betrothed against her will to Benvolio Montague, but as they worked together to stop the marriage, they only furthered the drama between their feuding families. 

The treachery and ill-fated romance fell short, as the drama although praised for its diversity, failed to live up to expectations or retain its audience. It was axed after just seven short episodes. 

8. The Catch 

The comedy thriller was anything but a “catch” despite its ambitious premise. Mireille Enos took on the role of a private investigator who specialized in exposing fraud until she learned that she was the victim. Upon finding out that her fiancé (Peter Krause) conned her out of millions, she indulged in a game of “cat and mouse” to catch him.

The drama was plagued with so much off-screen drama that not even the star-studded cast, which included Gina Torres and John Simm, could save it. It was canceled after two seasons.

7. For the People

For the People tapped into the already-saturated market of legal dramas, but delivered a refreshing storyline as it trailed young lawyers in the Southern District of New York Federal Court trying to make a name for themselves by handling some of the most high-profile cases.

Unfortunately, it didn’t hold a candle to more established legal dramas, as Variety noted that it was the second lowest-rated Shondaland series, which ultimately led to its cancellation.

6. Station 19 

There was a time when it seemed like anything that Rhimes touched would turn to gold, so when she decided to jump into the fire and deliver a firefighter drama, ABC was immediately on board.

But while the TV landscape has plenty of room for new medical dramas, the window for fire procedurals is much more competitive. 

Station 19 — centered on Jaina Lee Ortiz’s Andy Herrera — found success by tapping into Grey’s Anatomy’s already established fanbase and featuring Jason George as Ben Warren, Miranda Bailey’s husband. However, it never reached the cultural echelons of some of Rhimes’ other shows.

5. How to Get Away With Murder 

How to Get Away With Murder hit the ground running — intoxicating and hooking audiences with just its pilot. On the surface, the series was your average legal drama, but once you peeled back the layers, it was a dark and gripping murder mystery that kept you on the edge of your seat with one suspenseful twist after the other. 

Much of that success was attributed to Viola Davis’s powerhouse performance as Annalise Keating, a law professor who selects a handful of ambitious law students to work at her firm.

4. Grey’s Anatomy 

Sometimes most successful doesn’t equate to best. In its prime — when tongues were wagging for Patrick Dempsey’s Dr. Derek Shepherd, aka “McDreamy” — Grey’s Anatomy would’ve taken the top spot on this list hands down, but creeping into its 19th season (with no end in sight), there’s a bit of fatigue over the medical drama set at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. That fatigue doesn’t just extend to the audience — it’s felt by the actors as well, many of whom have already exited the medical drama over the years.

While there’s no doubt the brilliant storylines that left fans shocked, upset, heartbroken and “in their feels” will leave a lasting mark on the TV landscape, it might be time to hang up the scrubs.

3. Private Practice 

When one medical drama does so well, why not add another to the mix? Rhimes did just that with her Grey’s Anatomy spin-off starring Kate Walsh as neonatal surgeon Addison Montgomery. If there’s one thing Rhimes excels at, it’s creating strong and confident females who are ready to change the world. 

Addison may not have been painted in the best of light during her time on Grey’s, but she was able to redeem herself by trading in the public hospital in Seattle for an intimate yet trendy clinic in Los Angeles. 

With its charming cast and relatable situations, the series made a name for itself independent of its counterpart while gaining a dedicated fandom.

2. Scandal 

When Scandal was considered peak television, there wasn’t a single soul that wasn’t plopping down on the couch on Thursday night and drinking red wine out of a long-stemmed wine glass.

In the political drama, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is a former White House communications director who opens up her own crisis-management firm. But when the secrets of her past — including a sexy and forbidden love affair — bubble up to the surface, her loyal gladiators help to clean up the mess.

1. Bridgerton 

Dear readers, it has been brought to my attention that the steamy Netflix period drama produced by Rhimes was a smashing success. Time even noted that Bridgerton was the streaming giant’s second-most-watched original show ever.

Set in the Regency era in England and following eight siblings of the powerful Bridgerton family looking for love, the series includes all the ingredients that made other shows from the TV mogul such a smash: romance, drama, scandal, comedy, elaborate costumes and an array of dashing (Simon Basset, aka Regé-Jean Page) and well-developed characters.

Grey's Anatomy has been renewed for season 19, ABC has confirmed.

The announcement was made on Monday, Jan. 10. Original cast members including Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Meredith Grey herself, Ellen Pompeo, are set to return in the next season of America's longest-running medical drama.

Krista Vernoff, who will continue to serve as showrunner, said: "I'm excited to work with our extraordinary writers to dream up where we go from here, and I'm always grateful to our partners at Disney and ABC for letting us tell bold stories with real impact."

Former showrunner Shonda Rhimes also celebrated Grey's Anatomy's renewal, stating: "I couldn't be more excited that we get to keep telling the stories of Meredith, Bailey, Richard, and all of the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial for another season.

"This is a true testament to Krista Vernoff, the cast, the crew, and all the writers who keep the audience on the edge of their seat week after week. And it would not be possible without the generations of incredible fans who have supported Grey's Anatomy for so many years", Rhimes added.

This announcement comes after lead actor Ellen Pompeo recently made headlines for revealing she was trying to get others to commit to bringing Grey's Anatomy to an end.

Speaking to Insider, Pompeo said: "I've been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end. I feel like I'm the super naive one who keeps saying 'But what's the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?' And everyone's like, 'Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars."

After 17 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy may finally be coming to an end.

Recently, lead character Dr Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) caught a severe case of COVID-19. Throughout the first half of season 17, Grey has been drifting in and out of dream sequences that have reunited her with her late husband. Viewers are desperate to know whether this means Meredith will wake up when the show returns. and viewers have been desperate to know when, or if, Meredith will wake up.

Since Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t yet been officially renewed for its 18th season and with the title character currently fighting for her life, could this finally the end of Grey’s Anatomy? Possibly.

Ellen Pompeo appeared on CBS Sunday Morning over the weekend, where she spoke to Tracey Smith about her life growing up and, pressingly, what we can expect from the future of Grey's Anatomy.

When pressed, Ellen Pompeo confirmed that the writing team were in the middle of deciding whether Grey’s Anatomy should end at all, and if so, how that ending might play out. She said: “We honestly have not decided...we’re really trying to figure it out right now.”

Pompeo added: “It’s what story do we tell? To end a show this iconic, how do we do it? I just wanna make sure we do this character, and this show, and the fans… I wanna make sure we do it right.”

Later on, Tracey returns to the question of what happens next, asking: “As we sit here, we don’t know whether Meredith is alive or dead, basically?”

Pompeo explained that she also doesn’t know her character’s fate, simply adding “Right, we don’t know, I’m in that we.” So, until Grey’s Anatomy returns, fans will just have to wait to find out whether we'll be seeing season 18 or not.

Grey’s Anatomy is the longest-running medical series on American television, having overtaken ER back in 2019. Despite viewing figures dropping somewhat, Grey’s Anatomy continues to be a very popular show in the 18-49 demographic.

Grey’s Anatomy has been on an extended winter hiatus for a couple of months now, but will return in a couple of weeks for a special cross-over event with spin-off series Station 19. ABC released a mid-season trailer for the upcoming special, which you can see below:
