How does Jenny find out Aidan is cheating on Eva? “She overhears Johnny and Aidan Connor talking and she later demands to know if Aidan’s having an affair behind Eva’s back. Johnny admits Aidan is having an affair, but he won’t tell her who with.”

Jenny is convinced the other woman is Alya Nazir, but why? “They seem very close, then Jenny finds out Aidan’s invited Alya round to his flat. It’s for a work meeting, but Jenny puts two and two together and makes five. Jenny tells Eva she’ll find Aidan and Alya getting cosy if she goes to the flat.”

Why does she feel she has to tell Eva this? “Jenny doesn’t set out to do harm and I don’t think she’s manipulative, but she reacts and lashes out when people cross her. This is her way to try and get at Aidan.”

Meanwhile, she’s moving in with Aidan’s dad, Johnny, isn’t she? “Yes. She’s very much looking forward to moving into a swanky pad in Victoria Court with him. It doesn’t get much better as far as Jenny is concerned – especially as the flat she was meant to move into fell through as it was one of the Phelan scam flats.”

Does Jenny have genuine feelings for Johnny? “I think she does. Time and time again Johnny’s been her knight in shining armour. He looks after Jenny and he’s been the only one who’s consistently been there for her apart from Rita.”

So she’s not just after his money – as Aidan suspects? “No. I do think Johnny has been totally there for her since she came back to the Street. Maybe there’s also an element of him being a bit of a father figure to her as she’s not had that in her life.”

Johnny’s not too pleased to hear about Jenny setting Aidan up… What if Johnny decides to dump her? “She’ll be devastated and she’ll really regret meddling. I imagine she’ll plead with Johnny to take her back if this happens. But maybe he’ll decide she’s just too much trouble.”

Corrie’s Sally Ann Matthews tells Soaplife about Jenny’s new drama in Blackpool, the city where her father Alan was hit and killed by a tram as he chased Rita, the woman he had swindled and ruined...

Why does Jenny go to Blackpool?

“She starts talking to Johnny Connor [Richard Hawley] about her dad’s death and when he hears she’s never actually visited where her dad died, Johnny offers to take her to Blackpool in order to remember her dad and make some new happy memories.”

How grateful is Jenny to have Johnny by her side on the trip?

“Johnny’s been the only person who’s been nice to her. She’s got nobody else apart from Rita [Barbara Knox] and she can hardly take Rita to Blackpool! She’s incredibly grateful to Johnny.”

And she bumps in to the Websters, who are also on a day out…

“It’s a sunny day in May so lots of families are in Blackpool. It is the north’s Riviera so it’s not surprising that their paths cross.”

Then there’s an accident involving a tram…

“Yes. Jenny comes to the rescue with regards to the tram, but that’s all I can say…”

What was it like filming in Blackpool?

“Blackpool was ace, it was brilliant, I loved it. We were lucky with the weather, although it was windy. Everyone was great. I was running up and down the prom from 9.00am til 6.00pm and couldn’t walk for the next two days!”

How did you feel about revisiting the past like this?

“I didn’t want it to detract from the original Blackpool storyline because the death of Alan Bradley was such an iconic Corrie moment – I still have people telling me to watch out for trams! But I was thrilled about it and thought it was a nice way of coming full circle.”

And how does Jenny feel about Johnny after their trip?

“Events in Blackpool accelerate their relationship a bit so when they come back she thinks he’s her knight in shining armour. She goes a bit gooey over him and it seems to be mutual.”

Would you like to see Jenny happy or have her go off the rails again?

“A bit of both. I don’t want to see her happy because that’s a bit boring. But you never quite know how she’ll react to any given circumstance. She’s unpredictable, which makes it all far more interesting.”

Bad penny Jenny Bradley returns to Coronation Street, reveals Sally Ann Matthews. And it looks like Rita’s her only friend…

Jenny Bradley has been released from the secure unit she was placed in after she had her breakdown and kidnapped Kevin Webster’s son, Jack. You’d think the last place she would want to show her face is on Coronation Street… but she does.

“She contacts Rita first because she’s always been a mother figure to Jenny,” Sally Ann tells Soaplife.

Is Jenny better?

“On the mend. She’s been given medication and also received counselling to help her come to terms with the death of her own little boy and taking Jack as a result. Part of the healing process will be to say sorry to Rita [Barbara Knox] and Kevin [Michael Le Vell] and Sophie [Brooke Vincent].”

What happens when Jenny and Rita meet up?

“Jenny tells Rita all about her lovely new flat and says life couldn’t be better. She explains she wants to apologise to Kevin and Sophie, but Rita says she doubts they’re ready for that.”

How does Jenny react?

“She’s upset. She’s been naively thinking the Websters will forgive her and put it in the past. Rita’s words aren’t what she wants to hear and she runs off.”

What happens next?

“Rita tracks Jenny down and discovers she’s been lying. She’s living in a hostel with very basic accommodation.”

Why does Rita offer her a home?

“Rita’s worried. It’s not so much the living conditions, more about the people around Jenny and the area she’s living in. Rita doesn’t think it’s safe.” 

And back on the Street Jenny sees Kevin…

“She’s overwhelmed and thinks maybe it’s too soon for her, too. But she figures she may as well say her piece. She tries to explain, but it’s not looking like Kevin will understand and forgive her – not yet.”

How does Jenny feel about seeing Jack again?

“Sad – not because she still sees him as a replacement for the child she lost, but because she realises that if she hadn’t taken him, they would probably be very, very close now. Jack is certainly delighted to see her.”

And what about Kevin now being with Anna (Debbie Rush)?

“Jenny still has real affection for Kevin. I think it’s mutual, but Kevin’s far too terrified to be with her again. Jenny has to resign herself to the fact that he’s moved on.”

After a lot of false starts and the interruption of Maddie’s death, the seriously unhinged Jenny Bradley has done a runner with Kevin’s son, Jack.

“She’s finally made it! She’s off for her new life with Jack,” says Jenny actress Sally Ann Matthews in a recent interview.

“Right from the beginning you thought, ‘There’s something not quite right with her… What’s going on? What’s her secret?’. And now we finally know what her secret is: Jenny has had the tragic loss of a child in her past.”

Is Kevin (Michael Le Vell) going to have a tragic loss, too?

“The most distressing bit about this is that Jenny has been using Jack as a replacement for the son that she lost,” Sally continues. “She’s never dealt with the grief that she’s had and this is how it has manifested itself.

“Her behaviour really does start to unravel quite quickly and we’re going to see her really fall apart.”

And fall off the balcony, with Jack?

“She realises she has gone a bit too far and knows she needs help,” adds Sally. “She’s acting erratically and it scares her. She has to call for help. And who is the person she calls? Rita.”

Rita (Barbara Knox) was Jenny’s surrogate mum years ago and, right now, Jenny needs her to be a mum again…

“Tell me where you are love and I’ll come and get you,” Rita tells the sobbing Jenny.

“But just you. Nobody else,” pleads Jenny.

And that’s where things go dangerously wrong…

“Rita comes to help her - but unfortunately Rita doesn’t come on her own,” Sally continues. “Jenny’s absolutely furious. She feels she’s been betrayed by Rita and there is a big stand-off.

“The story unfolds in a way we don’t expect and it’s going to be brilliant drama.”

Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews says she's nervous about how viewers will react when her character Jenny Bradley’s kidnap storyline comes to a dramatic peak next week.

Previews of upcoming scenes show a distraught Jenny clutching Kevin Webster’s son Jack on the edge of balcony after Kevin manages to track her down and confront her.

It emerges Jenny’s own son drowned after he was left unattended and that is why she plotted to kidnap Jack.

Sally Ann said: “Twitter and Facebook were quite a scary place to be when Jenny slapped Maria so what it’s going to be like in the next few weeks is anyone’s guess!

“I hope they see that there is a genuine reason for her behaviour and from the reaction so far I think the viewers will have sympathy for her situation.

“She isn’t Machiavellian! She isn’t twiddling her moustache and drawing up plans. She is deeply traumatised about the death of her son and is reacting rather than acting.”

The actress insisted that Jenny does have genuine feelings for Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and was not just using him to get close to his son.

She said: “She’s known Kevin for a long time and she does care for him deeply. He holds the key.

“She cares about him a great deal actually, but because she isn’t seeing things as they really are she can only see him as an obstacle in her desire to keep Jack safe.”

Dramatic scenes set to screen on Monday, June 15 show an emotional Jenny clutching Jack on the edge of a balcony, after Kevin manages to track her down with the help of daughter Sophie (Brooke Vincent) and friend Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox).

Kevin and Sophie call the police as they begin to become more and more concerned about Jenny’s whereabouts, and officers reveal that Jenny’s own son Tom drowned after being left unattended.

"It was a shock for me! It wasn't the way I anticipated Jenny's return was going to be," says Sally Ann Matthews, who returned to Coronation Street earlier this year after a 22-year break. "I think viewers expected Jenny to come back and there'd be conflict with Rita. She might try and screw her for some money and it would be history repeating itself. So this storyline had never entered into my head.

"The storyline is brilliant, it's so leftfield. And what I love about it is there are so many theories about it at the moment. On Twitter there've been 'I think she's got Munchausen syndrome by proxy... that she's lost a child... that she's Maddie's mum. So it's kept everyone guessing!"

During a week of must-see Weatherfield action, viewers will finally discover the shock secret Jenny has been hiding all this time. But why is she wearing a strange wig and using a fake name? And will her twisted plan work, or is she about to be rumbled?

Sally Ann chats to us about all things Jenny Bradley, including the extreme reaction her character has had on Twitter and Facebook!

"There have been so many theories on Twitter about Jenny," adds Sally Ann. "So it has kept people guessing and at least I know I am provoking a reaction, which is brilliant."

Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has revealed her upcoming storyline is set to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Fans of the ITV soap have seen the actress’s alter-ego Jenny Bradley get close to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) and his son Jack – and upcoming episodes will show her abducting the four-year-old boy.

“I’ve so enjoyed being back playing Jenny. It’s been such fun. It has been such an enjoyable storyline, seeing where Jenny goes and her relationship with Kevin, Sophie and Jack and there is so much more to come yet,” Sally Ann told Coronation Street’s official website.

“It’s brilliant drama and it’s going to keep you guessing till the end – and I’m not fibbing.”

This week’s episodes show Jenny demonstrating her darker side, when she slaps Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie), and later lies about it.

It sets alarm bells ringing for Kevin’s daughter Sophie (Brooke Vincent), who has already been suspicious of her father’s new girlfriend.

“Things between Kevin and Jenny have been going very well so far. They’re quite loved up… Sophie, on the other hand, is not too pleased that Jenny is around,” Sally Ann explained.

“I think it’s for a number of reasons – she doesn’t trust her, she’s a little bit jealous that Jenny’s getting a bit too much of her dad’s attention.”

The actress added: “This week, things get a bit darker and they do take quite a dramatic turn and we may well see that Jenny is enjoying the relationship with Jack a little bit more than the relationship with Kevin.

“Just when you think that you know Jenny could not get any more extreme in her behaviour, she tells Jack that they should go on a little adventure together.”

Returning to Coronation Street, Sally Ann Matthews reveals to Soaplife that blast-from-the-past Jenny Bradley is Kevin Webster’s internet date!

Jenny Bradley was last on the Street back in 1993, when she demanded foster mother Rita give her a huge sum of money. Rita sent her away with £1000 and a flea in her ear and told her never to darken the Kabin door again. Now Jenny’s back in Weatherfield – dating Kevin!

“Jenny found Kevin on an internet dating site and arranges to meet him… She always had a crush on Kev, plus it’s reassuring to date someone she already knows,” says Sally Ann.

How does Kevin react to seeing her?

“They immediately get on and start reminiscing, with Jenny tentatively asking after Rita [Barbara Knox]. But there’s a mutual attraction there, too.”

And they have another date…

“Jenny’s unsure at first – she knows if she becomes involved with Kevin she’ll meet up with all these people from her past. But they have dinner and Kevin asks her to go to the Rovers with him. He reassures her Rita won’t be there because she’s on holiday. So Jenny says yes.”

What happens when she walks into the Rovers?

“There are a number of, ‘Oh no, not Jenny Bradley’ comments from people who remember her. People new to the Street since she was last there are pleasant enough – until they’re told who she is and then their attitude instantly changes! Norris [Malcolm Hebden] is really horrible to her, even though he’s never met her before. Jenny’s upset and leaves the pub.”

Does Kevin follow her?

“Yes and they end up kissing. I wasn’t nervous about my first Corrie snog in decades – I’ve known Michael Le Vell since we were kids.”

What will happen when Jenny and Rita meet again?

“It will be... interesting. I’m not going to say any more – although within a few weeks, you’ll see them trying to rebuild their relationship.”

How long is Jenny back for?

“Quite a while. There’s a beginning, a middle and an end to her story but certain elements may change.”

After 21 years away, Sally Ann Matthews is back as Jenny Bradley in Coronation Street – and that can only mean trouble.

TV Times chats to her about returning to the cobbles...

You often get called Jenny in the street. Do you mind?

“I spent a lot of time trying to shake off Jenny, but then I realised I would never be able to and it would be better to embrace it.”

Why did you decide to leave Corrie?

“I felt that Jenny Bradley was holding me back from doing other work because people still thought I was 15, but I reached a turning point and felt happy to come back. I am proud to be part of a show that has been going for so long.”

Jenny tried to con Rita when she left, so when she returns, what reaction does she get?

“Nobody is pleased to see her. What she did to Rita has morphed and been exaggerated. Fortunately for Jenny, Rita is on holiday when she first comes back to the street.”

It’s Kevin Webster who finds Jenny. Tell us how?

“Kevin finds Jenny whilst trawling through online dating profiles and she recognises his picture, so they arrange to meet.”

Has she always liked Kevin?

“Back in the Eighties, Kev was a bit of a stunner. Everybody wanted 'that tache. Jenny certainly had a bit of a crush on him.”

How long are you back for?

“I am here for a little while. The story has a beginning, middle and an end.”

Where has Jenny been all this time?

“I don’t know. People remember her as a tearaway teenager, but I think she has had a full life in the past 21 years.”

When you left Corrie you had a part in Emmerdale. How long were you there for?

“I was in Emmerdale for a year, but nobody noticed. I was the world’s best paid extra!”

Your husband is a criminal QC.  How did you meet him?

“I met my husband when I was doing Romeo and Juliet in Liverpool. I was never any good at dating. I was having a drink with Michelle Hardwick, who is Vanessa in Emmerdale, when this American guy bought us drinks.

“I wasn’t interested and had a bit of eye contact with my husband who eventually came over and rescued us – he doesn’t watch TV so didn’t know who I was.”

Did you feel nervous about coming back to Coronation Street?

“I was ridiculously calm, which is strange because on every other job I am a nervous wreck. The worst bit for me was having to keep it a secret for six months. On my first day back, I was super relaxed, perhaps it’s because I was working with Michael Le Vell."

How did you feel kissing Michael Le Vell?

“I used to hate kissing scenes when I was younger and I was always snogging somebody. I used to think ‘What if they think I really fancy them?’ It was great snogging Michael as I knew he knew I didn’t fancy him.”

Are you happy to be working with Barbara Knox again?

“Barbara and I have always been in touch. We went out for dinner last week and thought we would be back early. We did five hours of non-stop talking and only got as far as 1995!”

Coronation Street boss Stuart Blackburn has confirmed the return of 1980s wild child Jenny Bradley to the Street - and she's unlikely to be a reformed character.

Jenny was the daughter of the deranged Alan Bradley, Rita's abusive partner, who met his end beneath the wheels of a tram in Blackpool. Jenny blamed Rita for his death.

Stuart told What's on TV: "Rita's not going to be very pleased. The last time Jenny was here I think it was either one or two grand and Rita paid her off, 'Just go. If you want my money just go.' She really let Rita down badly.

"But she's back and she's back with a chance of romance. I'm not going to say with who, but word on the Street with Jenny is she's a wrong'un, so it's whether she can kind of front that out and whether she has actually changed."

Sally Ann Matthews will return to the role of Jenny when she reappears in Corrie in February.
