Even though Carl King (Tom Lister) had warned DCI Grace Barraclough (Glynis Barber) not to fall for him, he couldn’t stay away from her. And she couldn’t keep her hands off him. Carl knew he was bad news; he had killed his father, Tom. Detective Grace hadn’t yet worked that out, though. She asked Carl outright whodunit but he wouldn’t tell her. Then her boss found out about their affair and told her to choose between Carl and her job. So Carl was dumped. Drunk and liable to talk too much, Carl was bundled into one of the King family’s haulage trucks bound for Europe by his brothers, Jimmy and Matthew, and sent overseas. But he wouldn’t be gone for long…

Oh, dear… There was Jimmy King (Nick Miles), all oiled up for a massage when, instead, he walked in on his fiancée Kelly Windsor (Adele Silva) getting a tongue-lashing from Carrie Nicholls (Linda Lusardi). Carrie had discovered that her schoolgirl daughter, Scarlett, had accompanied Kelly to an abortion clinic. Kelly had terminated her pregnancy to save her modelling career. But that was also terminated. Kelly begged Carrie not to tell Jimmy about the abortion and she didn’t. But Jimmy would find out eventually…

Coronation Street

Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) was desperate to keep his near-sexual holiday adventure with transvestite Shania a secret, especially from Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) who was (at that time) the woman of his dreams. But his best mate, joker Lloyd Mullaney (Craig Charles), had a photo of Steve kissing Shania and Michelle saw it… And she humiliated Steve by showing it to everyone in the Rovers. They did kiss and make up, though.

Ashley Peacock’s (Steven Arnold) friends had clocked the constant presence of crazy Casey Carswell (Zoe Henry) at No4 Coronation Street and were getting worried for him. Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) bobbed round to ask Ashley to go for a drink and was shocked to see Casey in a dressing-gown. But Ashley angrily told Kevin to mind his own business. And when Audrey Roberts tried to talk some sense into Ashley, Casey went to see her and lied that Ashley’s wife Claire knew they were having an affair and that she was Ashley’s family now.

Awkward! This time 10 years ago, Stacey Branning (as she was then) was having an affair with her father-in-law Max Branning (Jake Wood), whose wife, Tanya (Jo Joyner), was pregnant. Tanya had a health scare and it was Stacey (Lacey Turner) who went to hospital with her. By the time Max got to Tanya’s bedside, she and Stacey had bonded over the experience – which made it all that much harder for Stacey to sit and watch Max and Tanya together.

Ten years ago, Max Branning had no thought of destroying Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and hadn’t looked twice at his daughter, Lucy. At that time, Ian was horrified to discover that his 13-year-old daughter was secretly dating 18-year-old Craig Dixon (Rory Jennings) and was desperate to stop them. Max drove Ian to Craig’s house and they burst in to find Craig half-naked and Lucy in his bed. Max warned Craig to stay away, while Ian got Lucy out of the flat and reported Craig to the police. But that didn’t stop him…

Hollyoaks

Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) had to grieve in secret when Jacqui McQueen miscarried his baby, because Jacqui had married Albanian immigrant Aleksander Malota (Jon Lolis) so he could stay in the country. But it was all too much for Tony after he discovered Jacqui would never be able to have children and then saw Aleks getting all the sympathy because people thought he was the father of the baby she had lost. Tony was outraged and attacked Aleks, then announced to everyone that the baby had been his, not Aleks’.

John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) found heartbroken Carmel McQueen (Gemma Merna) all packed and ready to leave Hollyoaks after her secret lover, Aleksander, had been forced to leave by Tony. Her plan was to try to find Aleks but John Paul convinced her to stay in the village.

John Paul had less luck with his own secret lover, Craig, who didn’t want anyone to know about his gay relationship with John Paul.

Following last night's cliff top terror, John Paul's final exit to be shown tonight on E4

There were dramatic scenes in Hollyoaks last night  that had viewers on the edge of their seats and John Paul McQueen on the edge of a cliff!

With John Paul's departure from the soap set for this week,  many thought the popular character was going to die in the plunge  but Hollyoaks have revealed his final exit will actually air TONIGHT on E4.

Tensions came to a  climatic head  last night on E4 when James Nightingale discovered that his boyfriend John Paul had slept with his ex, Ste. A furious James decided it was payback time and tricked John Paul into believing he had trapped Ste in the boot of his car.

Parked on the edge of a cliff-top, cruel James then released the hand-brake and pushed the car towards the sheer drop as a frantic John Paul desperately scrambled towards the vehicle  in a bid to save Ste, only to discover the boot was in fact empty and James had lied to him.

Smarting from James's heartless stunt, and aware that their relationship was well and truly over, a deeply shaken John Paul returned to the village with the intention of declaring his true feelings for his ex-lover Ste. However, rather than the emotional reunion he was hoping for, the teacher was dealt another cruel blow when he  tracked down Ste, only to see him down on one knee and proposing to Harry!

With, actor James Sutton, who plays John Paul, having already filmed his final scenes for  Hollyoaks, many fans thought JP was going to meet a grisly end in the car crash however Hollyoaks have confirmed it is TONIGHT that he will leave the soap although exactly how is being kept a closely guarded secret.

James's co-star Kieron Richardson who plays Ste took to twitter earlier today to bid a fond farewell to his co-star who has been in the soap since 2006.

Speaking about his departure, James recently wrote on his Instagram account:

"It's been one hell of a crazy ride but I can finally confirm that I have left the world of Hollyoaks.

"I shot my last scene Thursday and it'll be on screen in a few weeks time.

"The final week of episodes has everything; tears, laughter, romance, a good old fashioned car stunt, and I got to share my final scenes with some of the most talented cast and crew I've ever worked with.

"That's it. That's a wrap. Thank you so much Hollyoaks fans for your support over the years, I really mean it, you're mad and you're passionate but you're brilliant."

John Paul is not a happy newlywed… In fact, he’s having murderous thoughts, says Hollyoaks’ James Sutton...

How would you say married life is for John Paul?

“It was pretty positive until Ste’s HIV positive diagnosis came along and changed everything.”

What does the HIV mean for John Paul?

“Obviously, there’s a lot of worry. John Paul is terrified that something is going to happen to Ste [Kieron Richardson]. He needs to make sure he stays healthy and that he takes his medication. On an emotional level, the two of them are all over the place.”

What happens when Peri goes nuts at the school?

“Leela [Kirsty Leigh-Porter] brings the fire truck to school and Peri [Ruby O’Donnell] locks herself in and threatens to drive it into the building. John Paul manages to talk her down which impresses Patrick, who says there is a chance he could get his job back. He will have to be interviewed by the board of governors, but Patrick [Jeremy Sheffield] is really positive.”

Is it what John Paul wants?

“Teaching is his life; it’s all he wants to do. How he defines himself is as a teacher. He really wants to impress the governors and get his job back.”

Then Finn phones…

“And John Paul doesn’t know why. He assumes that Finn [Connor Wilkinson] wants to have control over him. He keeps ringing and John Paul gets really upset about it. He starts thinking about the rape and feeling panicky.”

Why does he decide to call on Trevor (Greg Wood)?

“John Paul isn’t a gangster, but he gets into a bit of a state and doesn’t know what else to do. He doesn’t want Finn in his life and tells Trevor to sort it. He pays him a lot of cash to do it. Trevor warns him that if he goes ahead, John Paul will feel bad for the rest of his life. He has to make a decision as to whether or not he wants Trevor to go through with it.”

Does John Paul get his job back?

“He’s about to go in for the interview, when Ste phones him… He has stolen a bag of drugs from Lockie [Nick Rhys]. Ste says, ‘I’ve got a big bag of drugs, I need your help’ and John Paul has to decide if he will sacrifice his career to save Ste from himself. That Ste needs shaking! It’s going to be good telly. The next few months are pretty traumatic for John Paul.”

Hollyoaks’ James Sutton tells Soaplife how Ste is arrested and John Paul is in Scotland with Lockie just a day before their wedding!

As John Paul and Ste prepare for soapland’s first ever gay church wedding, everyone is hoping for a happy ending… But when the stag do goes wrong and John Paul ends up in Scotland it will take a miracle to get them both to the church on time. “It is one of those classic situations you see in the movies, where the couple are desperately trying to get to the church. It’s very light-hearted and fun,” James tells Soaplife.

So, the McQueens will finally have something to smile about… won’t they?

Why does John Paul want to marry Ste (Kieron Richardson)?

“They are in love and he wants to cement that relationship. John Paul and Ste have both been through so much, so in a sense they are very similar. Ste has had his problems with drugs, but then John Paul had the rape to deal with. They’ve both pulled one another through various problems and are stronger for it.”

What goes wrong at the stag do?

“Both John Paul and Ste are dressed as Geri Halliwell. People said I looked quite sexy in the dress! Things go a bit wrong, there is an incident with some police officers, John Paul goes on the run with Lockie [Nick Rhys] and they end up in Scotland!”

Ste must be going mental…

“Well, Ste is in a bit of trouble of his own. Because he is wearing the same clothes as John Paul, he gets mistaken for him, gets arrested and is locked up.”

But the grooms do get to the church in time…

“Ste is released and is waiting for John Paul. Ste thinks that the wedding is off, but then John Paul turns up at the church.”

Is it a beautiful wedding?

“It is classic and romantic. But remember, the McQueens are there, so there is potential for drama.”

Like what?

“There is a bombshell in the form of Sinead [Stephanie Davis]. She can’t let anything go and has a big old mouth on her. She might cause some trouble.”

Will the wedding be a chance for the McQueens to forget all their recent tragedies?

“Yes, it is an opportunity for them to celebrate for a change. It is nice to have some love, laughter and smiles. There is a lot of love in that family and it is nice to see it. The Christmas episode really is a happy day for them.”

How do you feel about the upcoming storyline, which sees Ste being diagnosed as HIV Positive?

“We relish the challenge of doing storylines like that. It is going to be hard for John Paul and Ste, but they are strong as a couple and this is another hurdle they will set out to overcome together.”

Hollyoaks star James Sutton has hinted that the McQueen family could be some of those involved in the upcoming train crash.

James plays John Paul McQueen, who is due to marry his boyfriend Ste Hay (Kieran Richardson) in the Channel 4 soap, and the show's big autumn storyline has been teased as a devastating train crash.

He told Unreality TV: "This stunt is a huge thing to undertake. We are quite literally crashing a train.

"We are doing this for real, there are a lot of characters involved, which I think is one of the things that Bryan Kirkwood (producer) is very keen on, getting lots of families and lots of different characters involved in these big things because it paints a bigger picture which leads on to affect a lot of lives, in a lot of different families.

"It is huge, the episodes are going to be fantastic. There is so much drama, not just the actual stunt itself but the before and after. There are some huge episodes to look out for, and John Paul is involved, as are some of the McQueens, and some of the new McQueens."

James also talked about the upcoming exit of his on-screen sisters, Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) and Carmel (Gemma Merna): "The McQueens are an iconic family, full of big characters and to be part of them is really important. It is always very sad when someone leaves, but with every new person who comes in, like when Mandip [Gill, who plays Phoebe] came in and was just fantastic, it makes the family stronger.

"And now John Paul being with Ste makes him part of the clan too, and of course with Nana (Diane Langton) and Myra (Nicole Barber-Lane) coming back to the forefront of the family it is great.

"And with this sort of family you never know how many cousins and distant relatives could come out of the woodwork, and the ones who leave you can never write off - even if they are dead. It is a good family to be part of."

Hollyoaks' James Sutton tells Soaplife that John Paul is terrified as he seeks justice in the rape trial against his attacker, Finn…

As Finn's trial approaches, nerves are kicking in, especially for John Paul, who's preparing to take to the stand and give evidence, talking openly about the horrific rape he endured at Finn's hands. But Finn's got a good defence lawyer and he can lie convincingly. "John Paul's terrified about testifying," James tells Soaplife. "He's worried people won't believe him and, at one point, he does lose it on the stand, which doesn't do him any favours…"

How is John Paul feeling in the run-up to the trial?

"He's very up and down. One minute he wants to testify, then he has second thoughts. He hears people talking about it in the village and he's afraid they might think he instigated it… or that he even enjoyed it because he's a gay man! Ste [Kieron Richardson] tells him he loves him and he'll support him throughout. That gives John Paul the strength to go ahead."

What's it like for John Paul giving evidence?

"It's his worst nightmare. He struggled to tell his counsellor and family about the rape, so it's really hard to stand up and relive it in a roomful of people."

And made more difficult by Finn's lawyer…

"Yes, he twists it round completely to make it look like John Paul is the predator and Finn [Connor Wilkinson] is the victim."

Nancy (Jessica Fox) was nearly another victim… Are they supporting one another?

"Not really. Their friendship has taken a battering. If John Paul had come forward, Nancy probably wouldn't have been attacked so you can understand her reaction."

How does John Paul feel about Diane (Alex Fletcher) standing by Finn?

"He can understand it to a degree as she's his mother, but he's angry she's lying and covering for Finn by saying he was at home with her when he wasn't."

Then John Paul gets a shock in court…

"Finn plays the victim and John Paul is stunned. He hasn't realised that's the route Finn and his solicitor are going to take."

How worried is he that Finn will walk free?

“Very. It's massively up and down. One minute, you think he'll get off, the next you think he'll go down. It's a rollercoaster week."

What would a guilty verdict mean to John Paul?

"It would be a huge relief. It would make the trauma of going to the police, then going to court, worth it. If Finn were found 'not guilty', it would be really difficult because John Paul would have to see him every day in the village. I'm not sure he'd be able to stick around."

Nana and the McQueens are shocked when they discover the truth about John Paul's rape...

Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson has revealed Ste Hay is terrified off his shock one-night stand being exposed.

Viewers of the Channel 4 soap were given a big surprise when gay Ste slept with his straight friend Sinead Roscoe after they got drunk together at the LGBT '70s disco.

Ste couldn't remember what had happened until Sinead (Stephanie Davis) reminded him, and he is now desperate to keep it a secret from on-off boyfriend John Paul McQueen (James Sutton).

Kieron told Hollyoaks' official website: "I think Sinead secretly probably loves it a little bit, because now she's got one up on Ste because maybe she could now blow the whole thing up to John Paul.

"So where does this leave Ste and John Paul now? Ste can't tell the truth with what's happened, because then it'll be devastation all over again.

"He's now got feelings for John Paul, but he's slept with Sinead, and if John Paul finds out then John Paul's going to dump him forever. John Paul's obviously going through everything he's going through, so Ste doesn't want to upset him any more. It leaves Ste in a very difficult situation."

But Kieron thinks Ste is best off getting his guilty secret out in the open.

He added: "I think Ste should be honest and should tell John Paul, but I [also] think that Ste shouldn't, because he's going to get in a lot of trouble and Ste's had enough tears! If John Paul ever did find out, though, I think he wouldn't touch Ste with a bargepole."

Ste is out for revenge when he discovers Finn is John Paul's rapist...

What will John Paul do when his attacker, Finn, threatens him again?

Hollyoaks star James Sutton says John Paul McQueen blames himself after he is the victim of a sex attack.

Teacher John Paul was raped by 16-year-old schoolboy Finn O'Connor - played by Keith Rice - who had subjected him to months of homophobic abuse, and while John Paul summoned the courage to report it to the police, he did not identify his attacker.

James told the Hollyoaks website: "I think he does feel he is to blame. He doesn't run away, he doesn't fight back. He doesn't really have the opportunity, but in his head he doesn't fight back. But he was completely frozen with fear, it's a terrifying experience for him, but in his own head he struggles to justify that.

"I think a lot of it is to do with embarrassment. He feels ashamed, he feels quite dirty and he feels that people are going to judge him. He is in shock as well and he is still questioning why he didn't stop it and why he didn't do anything."

James revealed that the attack will change both John Paul and Finn.

"It changes both characters. I don't think either character can really come back from that in the same way. For John Paul, it changes him hugely. You see this outgoing, confident man be completely destroyed," he said.

Hollyoaks is to tackle the subject of gay rape, when teacher John Paul McQueen is attacked by a homophobic pupil.

Viewers of the Channel 4 soap have seen gay teacher John Paul suffering months of homophobic abuse from his 16-year-old pupil Finn O'Connor (Keith Rice).

James Sutton, who plays John Paul, told Digital Spy: "I visited Survivors Manchester with a view to how to handle the upcoming storyline with the realism and sensitivity that it demands. I was very moved by the bravery of the survivors that I met.

"It is not just one event - it will follow the consequences of what happens to the character after going through an extremely traumatic attack and how it changes him as a person. Hollyoaks has a history of examining important issues and I am really looking forward to telling the story."

Hollyoaks executive producer Bryan Kirkwood added: "Hollyoaks is known for not patronising its audience, but for finding ways to talk about difficult issues like Hannah's anorexia, Esther's bullying and Ste's domestic violence in a gay relationship within the constraints of a tea-time soap.

"The storyline will follow the journey of what happens to John Paul after he becomes a victim of rape, but also will examine the far-reaching consequences for all of those around him and also for the perpetrator. Keith and James are both extremely skilled young actors who I am confident will tell this story with skill and empathy."

Hollyoaks previously dealt with the subject of male rape in 2000, when heterosexual footballer Luke Morgan, played by Gary Lucy, was gang raped by members of his football team.

Dr. Browning is shocked when an unwanted visitor, 'Cassandra' - aka Claire - turns up at his door. She's desperately trying to find the ransom note she sent and when Browning finally sees it, he's sure 'Cassandra' knows more than she's letting on. Jacqui and the McQueens beg John Paul to withdraw his statement to protect Phoebe. However, Jim reveals it's too late - she's already got a court date. Meanwhile, Phoebe finds comfort in a bottle of vodka...

It's the morning after for Diane and Tony, both unsure how they feel about last night and Tony questions where his heart truly lies. After an awkward meeting in the village they arrange another date. But when Jacqui turns up in the pub later, Tony's attention is immediately diverted and Diane knows she was foolish to hope.

Sienna is sure something's wrong with Nancy and her first thoughts are that she's having an affair. Later, Nancy drops her pills just as Sienna and Darren walk in to see her scooping them off the floor. Sienna offers Nancy a sounding-board to talk about her problems, but she starts to see that all Nancy cares about is her job and memories of Sienna's own negligent mother flood back.

Also, Phoebe worries over her uncertain future.

John Paul makes it his mission to infuriate Ste at the careers day by undermining him in front of the students. Ste struggles to contain his emotions but it's clear he's wound up by Doug's new acquaintance. Later, the pair end up fighting in the back of the deli van.

Darren fails to turn up to Oscar's consultant appointment, which only sours Nancy's mood further - he's well and truly in the dog-house. Later, chaos continues to reign in the Osborne household as Nancy is forced to confront her worst nightmare, but there more heartache yet to come.

The McQueens are penniless and in dire need of furniture, desperate times call for desperate measures! Jacqui spies a flyer "cleaners needed!" - this could be the answer she's been looking for. However, she already knows the interviewer, Trudy, from her prison days.

Also, Cindy finds a place to live but it's horrible and Holly tells her mother about her new career choice, rinsing - like mother, like daughter!
