Hard to believe, but it's almost a year since Coronation Street nail technician, Kylie Platt, was stabbed to death on the cobbles. Actor Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, talks about this character's grief, a potential romance with Shona and why he'd like David to get a job with Dev...

What do David and the Platts do to mark the anniversary of Kylie’s death? "They have a picnic in the garden. David has banished Shona from Weatherfield by this point, but lo and behold, she returns to the street that very day. He really loses his temper and says: 'What are you doing? This isn’t fair!' and then he finds out that Sarah’s the one who asked her to come back! She thinks that Shona is the only person who can really help Bethany."

Is David’s anger towards Shona less about who her son is and more about the fact that she deceived him when he was falling for her? "I think it’s both. If she wasn’t who she was, everything would be hunky dory and they’d be at it like rabbits now! But because she’s Clayton’s mum, he just feels like he’s betraying Kylie. He hates himself for having fancied her. He’s not in a good place, so he lashes out and gets angry."

What is David’s mood like? One year on from the tragedy, is he more at peace with Kylie’s death? "He’s quite tetchy. If anyone suggests doing something, he has to have it done a certain way. Also, Sarah’s not there, and David doesn’t know where she is. He’s like: 'She knows how important today is!'

"Shona’s arrival is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. In terms of his grief, he’s still very much in the middle of that. Or rather, he hasn’t grieved – that’s the thing. He has the kids and he’s had to be solid for them, so I don’t think he’s ever been in a position to grieve."

How do you think Kylie’s death has changed David? Do you think he’s become less trusting? Would he be less likely to enter into a relationship? "He’s not had much opportunity to get into a relationship other than with Shona, and he has always sort of put it off because of Kylie. He feels like he’s betraying her. As far as being less trusting, David’s never really trusted anyone so I don’t think that has changed. I think there’s probably more darkness to come from him…"

Do you think Kylie’s death will change him forever? "Yes; Kylie's death probably affected David more than any of the other things that have happened in his life – and lets face it, he has packed a lot into his life so far! She was the love of his life and they went through a lot together. But David is one of those people who manages to compartmentalise things, and is able to get on with his life despite what has happened."

How do you think David will cope when Clayton gets released from prison? "It would be interesting to see, depending on where his relationship is at with Shona at that stage and how much she had to do with him, whether that would be one big stumbling block too many for their relationship. How can you be a stepdad to someone who killed someone you loved?"

David has become a single parent to Max and Lily. Do you think he’s a good dad? "Yes, I think he is, ultimately, because he does everything with them – he’s always playing with them and takes them to school. But I think he may be a bit over-protective of them as they grow up, as a result of what has happened to Kylie – especially with Lily."

Can you tell us what’s on the horizon for David? Are there going to be happier times ahead? "He deserves some happiness, but whether he gets it or not is a different matter. Obviously, there’s a lot going on at the Platts at the moment, with Shona knocking about, and everything that has happened with Bethany and Nathan. And Nick has left, so there isn’t that sane person to bring the family together. It doesn’t look good for the next few weeks."

Do you think David could ever get over his bitterness and find love with Shona? "Possibly, but he’s going to have to come to terms with the fact that she is Clayton’s mum and that’s not going to change. If he wants a relationship, he’s going to have to be able to look past it, so that every time he looks at her, he doesn’t think of Clayton."

David’s not only had Kylie’s death to deal with but Nick’s departure, too. Would you like him to find a friend? "He doesn’t have any mates, does he? He’s got no one who he goes for a beer with. There was Nick, but now he has gone – I suppose that’s why he’s been chatting to Maria so much, because there literally is no one else. But he’s got two kids to bring up on his own, so it’s not like he can just nip off to the pub with his mates even if he had any. I think that’s the difficult spot that he’s in. He’s going to have to find time to get out there and meet people."

Is there anyone you’d like more scenes with, or are there any non-romantic relationships that you think would be good for David? "I’ve always said that I want more scenes with Dev. Maybe David could be in a position where he needs more money, and he gets an evening job at Dev’s shop. I imagine it opens from 7am till 11pm, but you don’t see anyone in it at night time. David could be working in it at nights, to make ends meet, and he’d be in there with Dev – that’d be interesting! It wouldn’t last long, though, because David would be sacked or he’d quit, because Dev is too much!"

Corrie's new boss could be about the kill off another fans' favourite following the death of Kylie Platt, according to reports

We might still be reeling from the tragic death of Kylie Platt, who died in the arms of husband David on Friday, but Coronation Street bosses are reportedly planning to swing the axe again.

At least one more beloved character could be killed off in a huge stunt later this year, The Sun has reported.

The scenes being drawn up will apparently involve a 'huge explosion' and a raging fire.

New Corrie executive producer Kate Oates is even reportedly bringing in director Tony Prescott, who is responsible for the show’s live episodes.

He is a regular director on the show and behind some of the soap’s most memorable moments.

A source told the paper: “This is going to be up there with some of the best scenes in Corrie history.

“Characters are going to be crawling through flames to escape, and there’s talk of killing at least one character.

“The plans being put together are huge and Kate bringing in Tony shows that it’s going to be far from a straightforward one.

“Tony is considered one of the big guns of directing because he’s great with complicated and intense storylines.

“Kate also loves a big stunt. She was behind the helicopter crash on Emmerdale which killed off Ruby Haswell. It’s going to be carnage.”

A spokeswoman for Corrie said: “We do not comment on storyline speculation.”

After much anticipation, tragedy has struck on Coronation Street for Kylie Platt, and she was violently stabbed by thug Clayton only metres from her friends and family. There wasn't a dry eye as David said a tearful farewell to his spirited wife, and fans of the soap waved goodbye to actress Paula Lane. She's played Kylie since 2010... and starred in over 600 episodes of ITV's hit soap!

Let's look at Kylie's not-so-lucky time on Corrie's cobbles...

Kylie Turner, as she was first known when she arrived on the cobbles in 2010, has had some cracking storylines and has undergone a classic Corrie transformation in her six years on the soap.

From the offset Kylie had a rough start. Her back story was harrowing – raised by a drug addict mother and abusive father. Pregnant at 19, Kylie gave birth to a baby boy, Max. Max’s dad was a villain by the name of Callum Logan (Sean Ward). When Callum was jailed, Kylie was left homeless and struggling to cope and Max was taken into foster care.

Kylie was introduced to the Street as the half-sister of another troubled soul, Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly) and she didn't wait long to start shaking things up.

Since her debut, Kylie has been involved in some seriously disturbing storylines – selling Max to Steve McDonald and half-sister Becky for £20,000; marrying David Platt after meeting him in Tenerife, where she worked as a cage dancer called Candy; having a one night stand with her husband’s brother Nick and not knowing which of them was the father of her second child Lily.

Worse was to come, when she renewed her acquaintance with Callum and became a drug addict, which eventually led to her killing him to stop him attacking Sarah Platt, then burying him under the floorboards of Gail’s annexe.

Originally cast as a manipulative, game-playing minx, Kylie Platt grew to become one of Coronation Street's favourite characters. As sad as it to see her leave and never to return, we can't wait to see what actress Paula Lane does next.

How Kylie dies is being kept strictly under wraps, but speculation on social media is centering around a bullying storyline.

In Wednesday’s Corrie instalment, David’s niece Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) told Kylie about her ordeal at the hands of a group of bullies. Fans jumped on the significance of this plot development.

It is common knowledge that Kylie Platt will die in Corrie on Friday, but nobody has any clue how it will happen... although the speculation continues.

The clock is ticking down on the life of Coronation Street favourite Kylie Platt, played by Paula Lane.

Kylie will be killed off in Friday’s episode, but bosses of the long-running ITV soap are keeping secret the details of how the troubled mother and wife of David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) dies.

Paula, 30, announced she was leaving the Weatherfield series earlier this year. During Kylie’s six years on the show, she has been at the centre of some high profile storylines.

In 2015, Kylie murdered evil Callum Logan (Sean Ward) to stop him from harming her sister-in-law Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).

The Platts buried him under their house, but since the discovery of the body, a guilt-ridden Kylie has buckled under the pressure.

In Wednesday’s episode, Kylie listened to Sarah’s daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon) as the young girl tearfully spoke about being bullied. This immediately sparked theories about how Kylie dies on Twitter.

Paula Lane has blazed her way through some hard-hitting story lines as Kylie Platt in Coronation Street, but now she is set to leave Weatherfield for good.

When Paula Lane first appeared on Coronation Street as Kylie Platt (nee Turner) she’d only been signed up for six months.

But it was clear from the off that Kylie, the wayward sister of Becky (played to perfection by Katherine Kelly), would be a hit with her unique brand of gobby back-chat and hooped earrings as big as her personality. This week Kylie is set to leave Weatherfield for good.

We’ve been told Kylie dies suddenly… How did you feel when you found out you would be leaving Corrie? "My mum is devastated, but I am more than happy with the exit they have written for my character. I made no secret of the fact that I didn’t see myself in a long-running drama for the rest of my career. It would have been nice to have the door open, but I am getting a big impact exit and I hope I can go on to do other things."

Can you reveal anything about Kylie’s last storyline? "I can’t give details, but when they sat me down and told me how Kylie would leave, I went 'Woah!' I’m not just saying this because I am part of it, but I don’t think I have ever read an ending like this. It’s something else. I’ve never had to play dead for the cameras before and I’m not practised in staying still. I hope my eyes don’t start flickering!"

Your departure coincides with the birth of your second child this month! Will you take some time off after Corrie? "I am going to take as much time as I can this time. With Arthur [Paula’s first child], I was on fast forward a bit. I am hoping it to take it easier second time around. I am a big believer in fate and I think the right job will come along at the right time, although I am mindful not to jump at the first thing. It will have to be a very different role to Kylie and something that stretches me."

How did you break the news to Jack P Shepherd [on screen husband David Platt] that you were leaving? "I was dreading telling him. I kept saying to him 'I need to talk to you' and it was a really awkward moment. Jack is a very laid-back person, but you could see the news land if you like. It is so hard when you have worked with somebody for six years and have to say 'I am going and I won’t ever be coming back'."

How do you think David will cope when Kylie dies? "It’s heartbreaking really because I could have seen Kylie and David lasting a lifetime together. Poor David thinks he is about to have a happy ending with Kylie. The late Tony Stewart has taken the rap for Callum’s murder and the couple are planning to jet off to Barbados with the kids to start a new life.

"You see the old Kylie and David again, all that excitement and being young and carefree, but while we were filming that, the crew were sad because they knew what was coming. We build the audience up and then we crash them down!"

Will you keep watching Corrie after leaving the show?"If I am not up to my eyes in nappies, I will stay a fan of the show because it has been a part of my life for six years."

What will you miss most about being part of the show? "I will really miss the people, the buzz on set when a take goes really well and the Platts. We are very tight as a group of actors and I will miss working with them for a long time. Harry McDermott, who plays Max, is devastated about me leaving. I’ve worked with him since he was four-years-old."

Will you miss people recognising you as Kylie in the street? "I made a conscious decision not to be high profile. Acting for me has always about being other people. I have been lucky because when people see me in the flesh, they are not always sure that I play Kylie and I usually have time to make a swift exit."

What’s been your favourite moment and proudest achievement from your time at Corrie? "It would have to be the live episode in September last year [when Kylie bludgeoned Callum Logan to death with a wrench]. The audience were completely oblivious to what Jack and I were doing logistically – we were full on running around the sets with about 30 seconds to spare. It was crazy to think all those millions of people were watching us through the lens. Nothing will ever top that."

Kylie Platt bids farewell to Corrie in the most dramatic fashion next week. We catch up with Paula Lane to quiz her on the details of her shocking exit and look back on her time on the Street

Actress Paula Lane has spoken for the first time about her decision to leave Coronation Street – and how she felt when she was told Kylie Platt would die…

What made you decide to leave? "I have made no secret of the fact that I never saw myself being in a long running drama for the rest of my career. I was only contracted for six months and ended up staying six years. Six years is a nice amount of time to make an impact, but not be typecast, I was very conscious of that, time goes so fast in soap, as we film ahead... I thought I am going to have to run and jump and see that decision through."

Were you surprised to be told she was being killed off? "I knew it was a possibility, they have free reign to do what they want with your character once you make that decision to leave and sometimes when it is a much loved character they want to go for a big impactful exit. I am more than happy with the exit and creatively I am excited to play it and see people’s reaction."

How did they tell you? "Kieran Roberts the executive producer me sat down explained how and why. I was excited. You don’t get to have that kind of exit every day and people will really remember it so I am really pleased. Hopefully it will leave the audience wanting more.

"Of course it is nice to have the door open, it gives you a kind of safety net, but I hope I can go on to do other things. This is a great springboard. I feel like I have been given so much opportunity here and I am so grateful for that."

Has that been tricky keeping the secret? "My family and friends kind of know not to ask, but I have a very tight circle of people who know. It is great that we are keeping the details of how she dies a secret though."

What was Jack’s reaction? "He was very laidback about it, but it is heartbreaking really because I could have seen them last a lifetime together. It is hard when you have someone you have worked with for six years turn round and say ‘I am going and I won’t ever be coming back.’"

Will you take any mementoes? "No I don’t think so. I think it has got to be a clean break."

How is Kylie doing in the lead up to this? "The family are still dealing with the aftermath of the body being discovered, Kylie is struggling with the fact that an innocent man’s name has been trashed and that David is all right with that. She feels really guilty and also is worried about Max and how he is coping with it all.

"Gail doesn’t want to be in the annexe any more. Gail tries to get Kylie and David to move in saying it could be a love nest, Kylie quickly realises it is not, it doesn’t sit well with her. She tries to make it her own by buying all these fluffy cushions and revamping it and it doesn’t feel right.

"Then she finds out that Max is getting a hard time from the other kids so she has this great idea that they should start a new life and go off to Barbados.

"What is sad is that at this point we start to see the old Kylie and David come back as they plan their new life together and that is sad because we all know what is coming!"

Will you be teary yourself? "I can’t quite go there. I have so many friends here and Jack really is great to work with, I love him to bits, it is going to be gut wrenching. It is safe to say the performances the viewers will be seeing will be real I think."

What would your dream job be? "I loved Marcella, loved the style, really gritty. ITV has got some great dramas on at the minute, so you just have to see. Of course it is easy say I would love to do something completely different from Corrie, like a period drama, or sci-fi. And I would love to do theatre as well."

What’s been your favourite storyline? "It’s hard to just pick one. I loved spending time with Katherine Kelly and being in her shadow kind of thing when I started at Corrie. Then things got a bit more serious and Kylie slept with Nick, and we had ‘Is the baby Nick or David’s?’ thing. I’ve loved everything. I can’t really pinpoint one moment."

What will you miss the most and the least? "I won’t miss the many costume changes – it’s like going on a shopping spree everyday, but without the end product. You know, you’re just constantly trying on clothes. I would never want the end product, either. I won’t miss the early starts, the drive. But I will miss the people, the buzz on set when a take goes well – we have so little time to shoot the scenes – when it just works, you go ‘Wow!’ and it feels great that you’ve managed to achieve it. Most things I’ll miss, I really will."

Is Kylie dying after killing Callum the ultimate soap justice? "I have to admit that when they made Kylie a murderer I did sort of think, ‘This means something quite big now.’ It does change things for the character when they commit a big crime."

Did that have any bearing on your decision to go? "I think it just reinforced the fact that they can do whatever they want to a character. And I still wanted her to be believable. There were so many parts of her that I’d played that I thought it was time for me to wrap it up."

As far as Kylie’s relationship with David is concerned, is this the best way for her to leave? "Yes – the family now get a clear-cut end. She’ll forever be in David’s heart obviously, but one of the best ways for her to go is not by choice. David has to try and move on if she is dead whereas if she had been in prison or had run away he would always be waiting for her. It will be a long process but it will give him some great drama."

Do you think David will go off the rails after Kylie’s death? "Probably. It’ll catapult him into a new lease of life. The way she goes will lead to so much for Jack to be able to play with."

Is it one of the most shocking deaths in Corrie history? "Yes - Without a doubt.

"I’m not just saying this because I’m involved, but I don’t think I’ve ever read an ending like it. The audience are going to get a real sense of shock and surprise – how a sudden death is. They’re going to feel those emotions."

How are you feeling about having to play dead? "It is a bit weird. I just hope my eyes don’t start flickering. I’ve never done it before so I don’t know. I’ve not practised staying very still or anything. That’s what I mean about being given a storyline like this. It’s a new avenue, something different."

What’s been your proudest Corrie moment? "Without a doubt, the Live episode. The audience was completely oblivious to what me and Jack were doing logistically. In between scenes we were running around the set with about 30 seconds to spare. It was crazy. And then all those millions of people watching. It was an unbelievable feeling."

After keeping her head for so long, it looks like Corrie’s Kylie is going to lose it now that Callum’s body has been found. Paula Lane tells all to Soaplife...

Is Kylie going to confess?

“She’s very scared and extremely tempted to hand herself in and confess because she’s beginning to crack up – especially when it looks like the police are going to charge David [Jack P Shepherd] for the murder (pictured above).”

But David craftily points the finger of suspicion at Jason…

“Although Kylie doesn’t want to see an innocent man charged with murder, she knows it’s the only option. She knows full well what David’s capable of so it doesn’t surprise her.”

Would Kylie really let an innocent person go to prison?

“Jason [Ryan Thomas] is just under suspicion at the moment, but if it came to the point where he – or anyone else - was actually charged, that could tip Kylie over the edge to come clean.”

How did you feel about filming the discovery of Callum’s body?

“I was excited because they were exciting scenes, the culmination of some big storylines. I was more than ready to face it!”

You’re leaving Corrie soon, Paula. Do you know what Kylie’s exit story involves?

“Yes. I’ve read the scripts. I was supposed to be resting, but they were there in front of me so I went full throttle and I read them all in one go. I’m very pleased with it. If we film it the way I picture it I’ll be very happy.”

What are you most looking forward to doing after you leave?

“I’m going to have some time out mentally. I’ll just gather myself, have my second child. I’m mindful that Corrie’s been a huge part of my life for a few years now so I want time to get back to being Paula and then go from there.”

Paula Lane talks about leaving Coronation Street and Kylie Platt and how she feels about having her second baby

It’s hard to believe Corrie star Paula Lane is just two months away from having her second baby. When What’s On TV caught up with her this week, her baby bump was barely visible.

The actress, who plays Kylie Platt, is expecting her second child in June and is about to leave the ITV soap after six years. She said she’s feeling great.

“It’s been challenging at times but I’m strong and very lucky. I think I just carry babies well," said the 30-year-old, referring to her neat bump.

But her svelte shape is also down to exercise. Paula, who already has a 17-month-old son, Arthur, with her actor husband Tom Shaw, is a big fan of yoga.

She said: "I’ve got a fabulous yoga instructor and I do that every week and I’m about to start a hypno-birthing course. I did my final run last week and realised it was time to start walking!”

With her hectic filming schedule it’s amazing the busy mum finds the time to fit in exercise.

“To be honest I’ve not really had time to be pregnant," she laughs, referring to the back-to-back night shoots and long hours she and her co-star Jack P Shepherd have put in, in the weeks leading up to the gruesome discovery of Callum’s corpse, which unfolds on Corrie next week.

But she has had time to plan her birth. Whereas, Arthur was born at home, this time Paula, who’s revealed she’s expecting a girl, will be doing things differently: "I’ll be in hospital, but doing it kind of home from home so it will be very relaxed….hopefully!”

Following the death of his wife, Sadie, last year, Freddie Smith (Derek Griffiths) has been moping around with too much time on his hands in Coronation Street.

Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) took pity on the retired mechanic, and she's been keeping an eye out for him as a friend ever since.

Next week, she has an idea to help him even more. Will it give Freddie a boost?

Following a game of darts in the Rovers, Freddie's touched when Kylie invites him back to No 8 to help her put the kids to bed.

Later, Kylie sees garage boss Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) rushed off his feet and it gives her an idea.

Kylie tells Kevin about Freddie's previous career as a mechanic and she asks if he could give him a part-time job… Will Kevin agree?

Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) may have delivered the killer blow that saved sister-in-law Sarah (Tina O'Brien) from Callum Logan in Coronation Street, but Sarah's the one who's struggling most with the fact her drug-dealer boyfriend is secretly buried beneath mum Gail's annexe.

It's no wonder, either, with guilt-ridden Sarah having since given birth to Callum's son, Harry. She confides in Kylie that she can't bear to be in the same house as Callum's body and later pretends Harry's ill just to get away from Gail's party to welcome daughter-in-law-to-be Carla Connor into the Platt family.

So what makes Sarah choose to enter Gail's annexe alone with baby Harry? And is her strange behaviour a sign that she's reached the end of her tether?

After Sarah rushes to the hospital with Harry, a concerned Kylie catches up with her…

Kylie fears Sarah's frantic actions could make people suspicious and ultimately lead to Callum's body being discovered.

Kylie's own suspicions are confirmed when she learns there's nothing wrong with Harry and she gives Sarah a piece of her mind.

Later, alone with Harry in the annexe, will Sarah do something that lands them all in trouble?

What’s left of Callum Logan (Sean Ward) will be discovered soon and things will get ugly – but not just for the Platts…

Corrie has always said Callum’s body would be found “at the end of spring or early summer”. And that’s just about where we are…

So we reckon Callum’s body is about to be found down that drain… But we don’t think Kylie will be the first person that the police go after when they start investigating their whodunit…

We think Jason Grimshaw is going to find himself under suspicion and will be jailed for Callum’s murder.

“The discovery may not directly impact the characters you think it will,” said the then Corrie boss Stuart Blackburn.

What we think will happen is that when the cops start asking questions, people will remember that Callum had Jason beaten to within an inch of his life…

A killer needs motive, method and opportunity… Jason’s motive is revenge. His method is a whack with one of his tools – which is what Kylie used. His opportunity… Well, the cops can think Callum turned up at the Platts’ house and Jason was there as the builder for Gail’s granny flat.

It’s all going to fall conveniently into place for the cops… And for Jason actor Ryan Thomas’s departure from Corrie.

Jason will be an easy target for the police, as he’s barely known what day of the week it is since his dad, Tony, was found dead.

And Phelan (Connor McIntyre), who has been acting so supportive, will be happy to have Jason out of the way so he can get his hands on his building business.

But Kylie actress Paula Lane is going on maternity leave later this year – which makes us think Jason won’t be the Number One suspect for long.

How does newcomer Freddie fit into Kylie’s life? 

“She’s always done his wife Sadie’s nails. Freddie [Derek Griffiths] makes an appointment for a home manicure, which Kylie presumes is for Sadie. It is. But when Kylie arrives, she discovers that Sadie’s passed away and there she is, lying in a coffin! It’s a massive shock.”

Indeed! But she forms a bond with Freddie, doesn’t she?

“Yes. She finds she’s able to help Freddie. It gives her a purpose again. She sees someone who’s really struggling with their grief and, because she’s struggled with grief, but in a different way, she wants to try and help him. They have these lovely moments between them when they kind of take comfort in each other’s presence. It’s an unlikely friendship given the age gap, but there’s absolutely nothing untoward about it.”

Is Kylie surprised by how well they get on?

“Yes, but their friendship will be very important for both of them, I think. I’m not sure she’d get to the point of revealing the whole truth about Callum [Sean Ward] to Freddie, but she might if she was in utter dire straits…”

And Gemma could put Kylie there. Is that why she gets Gemma sacked?

“She can’t have her around, working in the salon, being a constant reminder of Callum. But Kylie makes David do the sacking. Gemma [Dolly-Rose Campbell] is really upset. She’s just been given this placement at the salon and now she’s lost it.”

Does Gemma realise Kylie’s behind her sacking?

“David [Jack P Shepherd] tells her that it was Kylie’s idea. Kylie knows Gemma will be mad at her.”

But Gemma only goes as far as the kebab shop, where she gets a job…

“And Kylie’s not happy. She may try to get Gemma sacked from there, too. It depends how troublesome Gemma turns out to be.”

How does Kylie feel about the Callum situation these days?

“It’s always there, bubbling away beneath the surface, but it’s getting easier and the family’s kind of moved on. There’s Sarah’s [Tina O’Brien] new baby to think about, too. Kylie feels helping there is perhaps a way of easing her guilt over Callum.”

Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) has been bunking off school in Coronation Street because she's being singled out by the classroom bullies.

The problem reached a head when mum Sarah (Tina O'Brien) found out about the absences at the school parent evening and Bethany flipped after she was confronted.

Coronation Street star Paula Lane is to leave the show after six years playing troubled Kylie Platt.

The actress, who is pregnant with her second child, has revealed she will quit the soap when she takes maternity leave in June.

ITV said writers are working on her 'dramatic exit', which will focus on the climax of a storyline which saw Paula’s character murder villainous ex-boyfriend Callum Logan during a live episode last September.

Paula, 29, said: “This has not been an easy decision for me to make. I have enjoyed every moment of my time on Coronation Street and learnt so much in the process.

“I have an amazing on-screen family who have become friends for life, so this decision was not taken lightly.

“But sometimes you just have to follow your heart and I am excited about what the future has to offer both personally and professionally.”

Producer Stuart Blackburn said: “Paula is one of the most talented and dedicated actors I know and in Kylie she has created an unforgettable Corrie character.

What does David say when he finds out Sarah’s carrying Callum’s baby?

“It’s Sarah [Tina O’Brien] who tells him and he’s not very happy at all. He’s also furious that Kylie knew, but kept it from him. Kylie suspected he’d react badly – and he does.”

Do the rest of the family find out?

“Bethany [Lucy Fallon] finds out because she hears David and Kylie talking in the back of the salon. Then Gail [Helen Worth] and Audrey [Sue Nicholls] find out. They’re shocked, but manage to get their heads around it and just get on with it. I think Gail’s pleased that Callum’s nowhere to be seen.”

Is it Kylie’s support of Sarah that causes problems with David?

“Certain wounds have not long healed and so the slightest hitch breaks them open again. David [Jack P Shepherd] just wants it to be him, Kylie and the kids on their own, so they can forget about what happened. But Sarah’s baby will be a constant reminder of Callum. He can’t work out why Kylie’s showing support for Sarah in this way. He didn’t realise she had that in her. Although Kylie was shocked to discover Sarah’s pregnancy, Max [Harry McDermott] is proof that a child of Callum’s can be lovely – she also feels saving this baby is like a life for a death and that maybe this is their chance for something good, something positive, to come out of Callum’s death.”

What happens next?

“David leaves. He basically says to Kylie, ‘That’s it! We’re done!’. He says that although he still loves her, he can no longer trust her. Kylie’s shocked and upset. She just wants them to be a family at peace again. She never imagined David would leave over this.”

Does David’s reaction scare Kylie?

“Yeah, it does. Obviously she’s aware that he has a past and that he can be very unpredictable. It’s frightening because she doesn’t know what he might do next.”

Could this permanently damage their marriage?

“Yes. There’s potential there to do a lot of damage. Kylie just wants to move on and have a nice family Christmas – but it looks very doubtful that will happen now.”

What’s stopped Kylie from completely unravelling so far?

"Her kids, mainly. She’s also helped by Sarah being away… not having to worry about her blabbing has made a bit of a difference."

How does she feel about Gail's plan to throw a party in her new granny pad?

"Kylie’s horrified at the thought of everyone actually dancing on Callum’s grave and she’s convinced she can smell something horrible under the floor. I think it’s just in her head, but she starts liberally spraying around air freshener."

Gail hears Kylie and David bickering… what's it about?

"It’s along the lines of David saying, ‘You’d be in prison if it wasn’t for me.’ When Gail wants to know why he’s said that, David goes into a tailspin and tries to cover by saying that Kylie’s back on drugs."

It’s quick thinking, but it’s a horrible lie…

"Yeah. It’s a real kick in the stomach for Kylie. Another thing for her to add to the list of lies and worries. It couldn’t get any worse and her self-esteem’s really low."  

How does Kylie feel about David saying such a thing?

"She understands he had to think on his feet to protect them all, but she doesn’t feel he’s supporting her emotionally. Kylie hasn’t been allowed to grieve for what she’s done. She’s a murderer now and she feels tarnished, but there’s no one she can confide in."

How far do you think the Platts will go to keep their secret?

"Oh quite far. Kylie’s finding it all incredibly tough and there are times when she feels she can’t cope. But I think she can keep it together for the sake of her children. It doesn’t help that she and David keep arguing, though. They need to be united."

Are you worried that Kylie will eventually get her comeuppance for killing Callum?

"I wouldn’t say I’m worried, I’m more intrigued about how the heck they’re going to get me out of this - if they can!"

Paula Lane talks to Soaplife about loving life with her new son, Arthur, her actor-husband Tom and her starring role in Coronation Street.

Playing Kylie Platt in Coronation Street means Paula has been at the heart of some of Corrie’s most gripping plots ever… Kylie sold her son, she’s been addicted to drugs and, several weeks ago, she took centre stage on the live episode, as Kylie killed her drug-dealing ex, Callum Logan (Sean Ward) when he attacked Sarah (Tina O’Brien). Oh, and she’s the mother of baby Arthur, who’ll celebrate his first birthday on News Year’s Eve.

Paula’s face lights up at the mention of her son. “He honestly is the most content, most placid baby I’ve ever known,” she said. “I know I’m very lucky. My priorities have changed since becoming a mum… But that’s fine. I always wanted to become a mum and I’m so much happier as a result.”

So, would you say you feel totally fulfilled these days?

“Oh, yes. While it’s crazy being so busy at work and having a baby, I seem to be doing OK. Arthur’s great. I’m more chilled than I was before. I guess you have to be or you’d drive yourself around the bend.”

What do you do for childcare?

“I’ve got a very good support network. My husband Tom [Shaw] has Arthur when I’m working, or my mum does... I couldn’t do it without them and it works for us. There are good days and bad days. Sometimes I'm at work for 12 hours, but sometimes I'm home by the afternoon. There's no set routine and that's what makes it exciting.”

You ran the London Marathon in 2012. Do you think you’ll do it again?

“I don’t know. I was quite poorly the day after I did it and had to take time off. I don’t know if running 26 miles suits the kind of runner I am. I’ll happily do a half marathon, though. It suits me better and I still get the adrenalin rush. Now, when I go for a run, I sometimes take Arthur with me in one of those special jogging pushchairs. If I’m shattered, I’ll go for a walk instead. I don’t punish myself.”

You and Tom recently opened a children’s drama academy in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. What made you do that?

“I know from personal experience the advantages that acting can bring to a young person and it can be a great starting block for building confidence in a young person, for example with public speaking and social skills.”

Harry McDermott (Kylie’s son Max) is a great little actor…

“He genuinely enjoys it and wants to be on set. There’s not a day when he’s ever moaned to us and was even happily working on his birthday.”

You and Jack P Shepherd (Kylie’s husband David) have a real on-screen chemistry. Do you get on well away from the cameras?

“Yeah, we’re very comfortable with each other. If we’ve got any emotional scenes, we can just say to each other, ‘I  need a minute’ and it’s fine. You know what makes each other tick, and if one of us is having a rough time, the other knows whether to steer clear. It’s a friendship and I think that’s why we work really well together.”

As a killer, will Kylie will get her comeuppance?

“Morally if you kill someone in soapland there has to be justice in the end. I guess I’ll just have to see what happens, but there’s a lot, lot more to come for Kylie and the rest of the Platt family. It’s the most challenging storyline I’ve ever been involved in.”

Are David and Kylie’s lives really in danger?

Paula: “It gets really, really bad for all of the Platts and Kylie, and David are at the centre of it all. Callum [Sean Ward] will stop at nothing to get what he wants – Kylie knows that of old. She’s very frightened. So’s David and all the family, actually. The Platts are going to have join forces to try and stop him.”

And it all comes to a head in the live episode on Wednesday, September 23, right?

Jack: “Yeah – and what better way for that to be played out in the live episode. I’m really excited about it. “

Not nervous?

Jack: “Yeah but mainly excited. This will be my third ‘live’. I was only 12 when I did the 40th 15 years ago and I was first on screen. I had to kick a football and, just before we went on air, I was messing about with it and smashed a light. We just had to go with it - there was no time to do anything else.”

How do you feel, Paula?

“The adrenalin rush from doing a live episode is amazing. At the 50th I had a very intense scene with Kate Kelly who played Kylie’s sister, Becky, and I felt like my heart was going to come through my chest! It was the most amazing buzz and now I’m lucky enough to be getting the opportunity to do it again.”

You know, of course, everyone at home will be watching for gaffes!

Jack: “I don’t think it will actually hurt the show if there’s a gaffe. If it’s flawless, it will be like any other episode. You might beat yourself up a bit if you make a mistake but I think it depends on how you get out of it.”

How will you prepare for it?

Paula: “I might go for a run – that relaxes me. I just want to know my lines well enough to say them in my sleep!”

Jack: “I certainly won’t be on the beers the night before!”

Coronation Street's Paula Lane has revealed that Kylie Platt will fear for her own safety when her plan to trick Callum Logan backfires.

Kylie decides to set a trap for bad boy Callum (Sean Ward) and expose her ex's villainous ways to girlfriend Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) after he propositioned her, but things don't work out to plan.

"David and Kylie really want Callum out of their lives but it turns out that Callum's got a little twist for Kylie and he propositions her. She's fuming when she hears this," the actress explained on the ITV soap’s official website.

"Callum's the best when it comes to being so rude and ignorant and he's a bully, and he knows how to play people so he denies all knowledge that he propositioned Kylie to Sarah."

Paula continued: "Enough is enough for Kylie, so that’s it. Callum's got to go one way or another. The plan is, she's going to trick Callum into thinking she actually wants him now and her and David are forever finished. At the same time, David's going to get Sarah to catch Callum with Kylie.

"It goes horribly wrong because David can't get hold of Sarah. Kylie puts the moves on Callum, who kind of believes it at the beginning but because she’s a bit shifty, he susses her plan and then it becomes really dark."

The 29-year-old star said: "I think the viewers are going to be quite worried about Kylie's safety at one point. Kylie's in danger."

Paula, who returned to Corrie in March after giving birth to son Arthur on December 31, said she has enjoyed being thrown into this intense storyline.

"Being back at work and being involved in the Callum storyline was like I'd never been away," she said.

"I stepped off the roller-coaster and I’m straight back on it. But it’s great – it's quite thrilling and it's quite different. It's a lot of drama."

The episode will be shown on ITV on Friday, July 10.

Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd tells Soaplife that David’s stunned - and angry - when missing wife Kylie reappears...

David threw Kylie out last Christmas, when it was clear she couldn’t resist the drugs. But he’s been looking for her ever since. So what happens when she comes knocking at No 8?

“David doesn’t say anything when he first opens the door,” Jack says. “He’s stunned to see Kylie [Paula Lane] and just stares, but then she comes in and they immediately have an argument.”

Had David resigned himself to never seeing Kylie again?

“No. In fact, he’s on the phone to Missing Persons when she arrives. He opens the door and there she is.”

Kylie swears she’s off drugs. Does David believe her?

“He doesn’t know what to believe. She says she’s been in London, but he doesn’t know what she’s been doing there. Has she been taking drugs, been with another guy or getting clean? He takes every thing she says with a pinch of salt."

Can David forgive her for disappearing?

“Eventually, maybe, but it’s going to take time. She left him in a world of pain, bringing up both kids and trying to work as well.”

How do the kids react to her?

“They’re overwhelmed and she gives them a hug and a kiss and says, ‘I’ve missed you!’.”

Then she finds out Callum has access to Max…

“She’s surprised and is like, ‘What’s going on?’ David says, ‘You don’t know, do you? He’s got access to him, it’s all your fault. He wouldn’t have access if you’d been here’. Kylie thinks it’s a really bad thing.”

Does she want David back?

“Yes, she wants to start again as a family. But David says, ‘Right, we’ll pretend to be a family so it looks good in court, but we’re not getting back together. I’m just pretending we are for the sake of the kids’. David’s worried he’ll lose Max if he and Kylie don’t seem like they’re back together.”

But Kylie wants more…

“She begs him to take her back and she’s over the moon when he says she can move back in. Then David says, ‘Whoa, we’re not completely back on track. I’m doing it for the kids, surely that’s obvious?’ He tells her he can’t do this any more. It’s too destructive. He might change his mind, but he needs to see she’s really committed and means what she says.”

And Callum (Sean Ward)?

“He tells David he’s mad to get back with Kylie and says she’ll never change. David knows what he’s doing, though, and his dark side is about to re-emerge!”

Why has Kylie come back now?

“Apparently she heard about the fire and was worried one of her children might be involved. Kylie really wants to be back in Coronation Street. She knows David [Jack P Shepherd] has been looking for her for months and so, now she’s clean, she plucks up her courage to go back.”

Is she back for her children?

“And David. She wants her family back.”

Talk us through her re-entrance to the Street?

“Kylie’s just kind of lurking in the vicinity… She sees Bethany [Lucy Fallon], who she doesn’t know, walking with her kids, Max and Lily. For all Kylie knows, Bethany could be David’s new girlfriend. She waits a while and then goes and knocks at the Platts’ house. David answers the door.”

And?

“At first he’s relieved she’s alive and safe but then anger takes over. Kylie says, ‘You kicked me out’, but David replies she shouldn’t have just disappeared and that she didn’t once get in touch. Kylie replies that she had to get away in order to get off the drugs. There are so many mixed emotions and it’s a brilliantly written scene. You can tell David still loves her but is also furious with her.”

How does Kylie react?

“She pleads for another chance – swears she’s clean now – but I think David’s past that point so it’s quite heartbreaking for her really. He lets her see the kids, though. Max is initially delighted and excited to see her but then he starts saying things like, ‘You’re not a real mum’ and ‘When are you going away again?’.”

Does Kylie know Callum’s going for custody?

“She hasn’t been aware he’s been around so much – and Callum [Sean Ward] has got his feet well and truly under the table, hasn’t he? But as soon as she hears he’s on the warpath, the fight becomes apparent in Kylie. She’s thinking, ‘You’re not getting my son’.”

Does she not think Callum’s entitled to see Max?

“No. He didn’t want to know for seven years. Callum is the reason Kylie became an addict again. She doesn’t want him anywhere near her and Max.”

Jack P Shepherd tells Soaplife that David squares up to Callum when young Max disappears… Then Callum hits him with a devastating blow! 

It’s been a nightmare few weeks for David Platt. He thinks his estranged wife, Kylie, is shacked up with her drug-pushing ex, Callum… And, this fortnight, Max goes missing! “Max is with Michael when it happens. Michael turns his back for a second and Max simply disappears,” Jack tells Soaplife. David’s worried sick, but he assumes Max has gone to the Red Rec. When he and Nick (Ben Price) can’t find him there, though, David begins to suspect Callum is involved. 

Is it Callum who has Max?

“Yes. The Platts have just called the police about Max going missing when Callum [Sean Ward] calmly turns up on the Street with him.”

How does David react?

“He’s relieved Max is OK. But, for the first time, he suspects Callum is going to really use Max as a pawn in his game. Max is excited, while Callum stares menacingly at David, making taunts about Max having had a nice time with him. Callum then tells David to meet him in the Rovers.”

What happens when they meet? 

“Callum warns David off because David reported him to the police. Then Callum lays his cards on the table about him and Kylie [Paula Lane] and says, ‘This is as much as I know about Kylie - basically nothing - so stop bothering me and leave me alone!’” 

How does David react? 

“He’s stunned. Callum said he and Kylie were together and now David learns that was a lie… David vows to find Kylie, to which Callum replies, ‘Not if I find her first!’. So it becomes a race between them to find her.”

Would David take Kylie back?

“At this stage, he isn’t thinking about the relationship. Kylie needs to see her kids and they need to see her. He’s also concerned for her as there are drugs involved.” 

Would David fight Callum for Max?

“David would go the whole hog and fight for Max in the courts. David sees Max as his son and Callum is a drug dealer. For David, it’s a no-brainer. He doesn’t want Callum involved in Max’s life and he knows Kylie wouldn’t want it, either.”  

Whose side will viewers be on?

“David’s! And it’s interesting to have the sympathy going in David’s favour for a change. Callum’s an excellent baddie and, for once, David might have people rooting for him.”

Coronation Street’s Paula Lane reveals to Soaplife how and why a broken Kylie leaves David as Callum ruins her family Christmas…

It’s been a hellish few months for young mum Kylie Platt. As Christmas approaches, though, she seems to be turning a corner. “Kylie’s still struggling with drugs, but she wants everything back on the straight and narrow, and she’s planning a Christmas the family will never forget. Kylie’s determined to change her ways and leave Callum and the drugs behind,” Paula tells Soaplife. Callum, however, has other ideas…

What does Kylie think when Callum’s back on the Street before Christmas Eve?

“She’s sick to the stomach. She tells him to leave her alone. She’s already told him to stay away, but he’s obviously not listening to her. Callum [Sean Ward] presents Kylie with a bag of drugs. She pretends she’s going to kiss him - and he thinks all his Christmases have come at once - but she rips up the bag of drugs instead."

Why has he come to Weatherfield?

“He wants Kylie back and thinks he’ll get her by feeding her addiction. He’s told her that he’s more bothered about her than he is about Max. He has a very dark presence.”

What happens on Christmas Day?

“The Platts have a lovely Christmas Eve and Christmas Day morning is nice, too… before it all goes wrong. David [Jack P Shepherd] and Gail [Helen Worth] go to see Nick [Ben Price] so Kylie stays home to prepare the dinner. She walks into the living room to see Callum standing there. Kylie feels sick and panics, knowing she must get rid of him before David returns. Callum, meanwhile, refuses to leave and waves a bag of drugs in her face. Then David walks in…"

And?

“It’s a nightmare. David demands to know what’s going on while Callum absolutely relishes the situation. He winds David up by inferring he’s been giving Kylie a lot more than just drugs. David sees red and attacks Callum.”

And what does Kylie do?

“She feels there’s no hope. She knows David won’t believe her. She’s resigns herself to never having her happy ending.” 

What happens next?

“Callum leaves, but David refuses to discuss anything with Kylie. He’s adamant they’ll have the Christmas Day they’d planned for the kids. He keeps her hanging on all day and she feels like the condemned man waiting to see how this will all pan out. It’s excruciatingly painful for everyone involved.”

Is this when she leaves?

“Yes. I won’t say too much, but it’s incredibly emotional, raw, and very, very sad. Kylie’s heart is breaking but she has no self-worth and, at this point, she thinks everyone will be better off without her.”

Are you looking forward to motherhood in real life?

“It’s very exciting. I’ve been in full-blown nesting mode recently. The baby’s due mid-December and he or she is going to change everything. Ben [Price, who plays Nick], for instance, has taken great delight in telling me I’ll never sleep again!”

Has it been good being pregnant at the same time as Coronation Street co-stars Jennie McAlpine and Catherine Tydlesley?

“Yes. We’re good friends. Jen’s about four weeks ahead of me, I’m in the middle and Cath is following. There’s also a girl in the office who’s pregnant. There must be something in the water at Corrie!”

The wardrobe department have disguised your baby bump well!

“It’s amazing what baggy tops can do! It’s also lucky that, apart from the bumpety bump, I’ve stayed about the same shape. Patterns and a big handbag also work wonders at hiding things. Plus, there’s the magic of TV. You often see me standing behind a fruit bowl or teapot.”

Will you be on maternity leave for long?

“Hopefully, I’ll be back in March. I’ve chosen not to take loads of time off. I have a very good support network and all the arrangements are falling into place.”

Are you anything like Kylie?

“I guess I’m quite feisty, but I’m quite sensitive, too, and I’d cry at the drop of a hat if I got into an argument with anyone. I’d never have fights like she does and I won’t be taking any tips on motherhood from her.”

You don’t really do 'celebrity stuff'… Is that deliberate?

“Yeah, it is. My gut instinct has also always been to guard my privacy. I think you need to keep a part of yourself to yourself. You do make mistakes; I might have done the odd photo shoot and thought ‘What was I thinking when I did that?’ But you learn by your mistakes.”

David discovers the truth about Kylie’s drug habit – and forgives her! But Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd warns Soaplife that David will go to his dark side to keep Callum away from his family…

David Platt wants to know where Kylie keeps sneaking off to. “He’s tired of being left to see to the kids while she swans off all the time. But he’s also worried about her, he’s convinced she must be drinking and he’s deeply suspicious about what she’s up to,” Jack tells Soaplife. There’s one person who might know: Kylie’s best mate, Eva…

What does David say to Eva (Catherine Tyldesley)?

“He forces Eva to help when Kylie [Paula Lane] goes AWOL again. Eva takes him to The Dog and Gun. David and Eva hide as they watch Kylie being handed what are obviously drugs. It’s a massive shock to David, who then follows Kylie into the toilets and catches her red-handed.”

What does he do?

“He’s furious. It was tricky filming this scene because Paula was six months' pregnant. I wanted to burst in the toilets and throw her around, but obviously I couldn’t so I grabbed her head and pushed her against the wall. It had to be an extreme reaction to show how David’s feeling. He tries to follow her into a cubicle and when she locks the door, he kicks it in. He grabs the drugs off her and throws them in her face.”

Why doesn’t he try talking to her instead of freaking out?

“He’s just in shock and says, ‘That’s it! Forget it! I don’t want to know you any more’. But then he sleeps on it and realises he can’t chuck her out just before Christmas. Kylie pleads to be given a second chance and David says he’ll help her get through it… as long as she promises not to do drugs again. She vows she won’t.”

Does he believe her?

“He chooses to this once. Christmas is around the corner and he has to think of the kids. David can’t bring himself to throw her out. He also desperately wants his marriage to survive.”

How would David feel if he knew Max’s dad Callum was Kylie’s dealer?

“David knows nothing about Callum. He assumes Kylie’s dealer is Macca and she lets him believe that. Finding out that the dealer is Max’s dad could well tip David over the edge.”

So when Callum comes into the salon for a haircut, David still has no idea who he is?

“None. Callum gives him a hefty tip, but David just thinks he’s a bit of a flash customer. Obviously Kylie’s on tenterhooks, but David doesn’t pick up on that.”

Will David fight for Max if Callum wants custody of the lad?

“David will fight to the death to keep hold of Max. Bad David may well return as he battles to save his family and pits his evil genius against Callum.”

So is Callum happy to see Kylie when she turns up looking for him in a pub?

“Callum actually sees Eva [Catherine Tyldesley] first, as she’s sat with Macca, Callum’s mate. Obviously Callum has no idea that she’s there with Kylie. He sees this stunning blonde woman who’s never been seen before in the pub. She looks a bit out of place! Callum’s straight over there to talk to her, before Kylie comes out of the toilet and they lock eyes. I think it’s shock. The dimensions completely change. Callum has a cheekiness to him, though and his attitude towards Kylie at that moment is, 'I knew you’d always come back!'"

Does Kylie (Paula Lane) tell him she’s come looking for answers because of Max’s ADHD?

“The first time Kylie sees Callum again there’s a lot of people around, a lot of old faces that she’s catching up with, and Callum almost takes a bit of a back seat while she’s talking to them all, but never once does he take his eyes off her. He occasionally drops in the odd comment, trying to unnerve her.”

At what point does she tell him she’s married and has a daughter now too?

“It’s over a game of pool! I know Callum is extremely surprised that she has another child. He thought she really struggled with Max when he was a baby so never thought in a million years that she’d have another one. I think he’s intrigued that she has this ‘fake’ life, as that’s how he views it. He knows that’s not who Kylie is and doesn’t believe she could have changed her ways that much. He’s not convinced by the family set-up she’s got. Kylie’s still her feisty self at heart and he knows he can tap into it.”

Does Callum think Kylie’s come back for him?

“He plays it that way… He winds her up by telling her he knows that she’s come back for him. He knows that something’s not right with her and something’s up. He doesn’t believe that Max is the only reason she’s come back. I don’t think Callum is too bothered about Max, but seeing Kylie makes him realise he wants her back. He knows there are flaws in the life she has now, or else why would she go backwards? I think he hopes that he’ll be able to talk her into his way of thinking so that she starts to see the holes in her life with David [Jack P Shepherd].”

Callum’s just out of prison but not going straight, is he?

“No. He’s a drug dealer, that’s how he earns a living. He likes to have power and control, that’s why he sells drugs. He likes selling to people who are worse off than himself as it makes him feel better about his own life.”

What’s his reaction when Kylie asks him for drugs?

“He’s shocked at first and he uses it again as a way of keeping her where he wants her. I don’t think he believes that she’s happy back in Weatherfield and I think he believes he’s making her feel herself again. She’s the only person he’s ever really loved and cared about.”

What about his own life, such as his family?

“We don’t know much about the Logan family or even if he has much to do with them, but we do meet a number of Callum’s close friends and allies in the Dog and Gun during my first scenes. All of Callum’s mates feature in Kylie’s past, so when she comes looking for Callum she finds them, too.”

Does Kylie still fancy Callum?

“There’s definitely something that draws them to one another. But I think Kylie has got far too much going on in her head for her to even process the thought of another fella as well, on top of all her other worries.”

Is he going to cause trouble for the Platts?

“Yes. Callum was sent to prison so that put an end to any chance Callum might have had to be a dad to his son. I think Kylie turning up again has given him an ‘in’ and he’s not going to let her go so easily this time. He knows what he wants and he won’t stop at anything to get it.”

Coronation Street’s Paula Lane reveals to Soaplife how Kylie’s anxiety over Max leads to her doing something very, very silly. . .

Kylie is still beating herself up over Max’s behaviour, even though he has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. “There’s relief that something’s being done about Max, but Kylie’s concerned about him taking regular medication,” Paula tells Soaplife. “Plus, she’s still convinced it’s something in his genes that’s caused it and is just becoming more and more worried and anxious,’ adds Paula.

Why is Kylie still blaming herself after Max’s diagnosis?

“Underneath all the bravado she has very low self-esteem when it comes to motherhood. Nobody, not even David [Jack P Shepherd], can convince her she’s a good mum. It’s a major confidence issue with her and her past actions still haunt her - Max being in care for a while and then Kylie selling him to Becky. That’s always going to be there at the back of her mind and it doesn’t help that the whole street knows her past. She does worry what people think - people have judged her from day one and that won’t ever change.”

Max’s medication works, but Kylie doesn’t seem pleased. Why?

“Kylie’s concerned that they’re taking the easy way out - she’s worried that he’ll have to take the medication long-term. She used to be a drug addict herself, before she arrived on the Street, and so she knows how easy it is to become addicted.”

We know she’s going to take Max’s drugs…

“Kylie’s at her wits end… tired and frustrated. David tells her the affect the drugs have, that they calm you down. Kylie will hate herself afterwards and swear never to do it again. She’ll also be worried sick about David finding out.”

Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn has promised that viewers will witness "a real tragedy that's going to affect a dozen or so of our characters” in the New Year.

“It is going to be spectacular and a little bit heartbreaking,” says Stuart.

“Last year, we had David and the car crash and of course that was a stunt, but it genuinely felt like it had come from story,.

“It wasn't us suddenly deciding that we needed to do something spectacular to get the viewers. It’s the same with what we’re planning because it’ll come from a relatively long-running story,” OK! magazine reports, quoting Stuart.

And that’s not all…

Stuart is also planning to bring back another of the soap's most popular characters early next year. As part of the tragedy?

The Mirror reports that Stuart has revealed Weatherfield will be rocked by a blast from the past when a classic character returns next year, but is remaining tight-lipped on who the person in question is.

Stuart has already brought back Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard), Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson), Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley) - and, any minute now, Cilla Battersby (Wendi Peters).

“I love Jim’s story [prison top dog, giving booze to alcoholic Peter Barlow] and Charlie Lawson has played an absolute blinder on that one.

“Even prior to all of that happening, we did start making plans for the return of another popular character, so there is another one on the way. I won't say who yet as it's still to be signed, sealed and delivered, but we do have plans and the character will be back on screen early next year.”

Names in the frame include Kevin Kennedy as Curly Watts, Julie Goodyear as Bet Gilroy, Nick Cochrane as Andy McDonald and Bruce Jones as Les Battersby.

But we so want it to be Katherine Kelly as Becky McDonald. Her little sister, Kylie (Paula Lane), really needs her right now.

We know Kylie’s ex - Max’s birth father - Callum is going to appear soon… And we have a feeling that’s going to mean that Kylie, Max, Lily and David will need help from someone tough enough to deal with the ex-jailbird - and that would be Becky.

Coronation Street’s Paula Lane tells Soaplife how Kylie feels after doctors tell her Max has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Max used to be such a sweet little lad, but recently he’s been a little devil - and mum Kylie has been blaming herself… David (Jack P Shepherd), though, thinks there could be a medical reason for Max misbehaving - and he’s right. “Max is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. Kylie’s shaken, but it’s also a relief to know why he’s acting the way he is,” Paula tells Soaplife. Unfortunately, the diagnosis doesn’t make things better for the family - it makes things much worse.

Kylie’s really been struggling with Max’s behaviour, hasn’t she?

“Yes. Initially she was in denial about it - she didn’t want to admit there was something wrong with her son. But there came a point when she could no longer ignore it. Max has been embarrassing her in front of other people on the Street, so she feels like the whole of Weatherfield’s talking about it! Her confidence is at a real low because she thinks people blame her for Max’s behaviour, and it’s also been affecting her own health as she’s tired all the time.”

What did she think was wrong with Max?

“She didn’t think it was anything medical. She thought it was maybe his age or his diet. Her biggest fear was Max was taking after his biological father, who was a real bad lad.”

Bad how?

“He abandoned them when Max was tiny, but he kept trying to come back into their lives. The last Kylie saw of him was on the TV news for a vicious assault on a judge and they’d thrown the book at him. He’s fearless and he’s scared of nothing. When Kylie tells David all about him, you can see David’s worried. But he’s so supportive.”

After the diagnosis, is Kylie worried about Max having to be on medication?

“It’s a concern, but she’s so exhausted she’s relieved something is now being done and steps are being made to help him. She’s most worried about him being treated differently to other children. This is a great storyline because ADHD is not a disorder you hear much about and it can be misinterpreted so I’m glad we’re addressing it.”

In a surprise twist, Gail’s (Helen Worth) friend, Michael, is great with Max…

“There’s a scene where he gives Max an ice-lolly with no additives in it, and Kylie’s quite touched by that. She’s happy because it means Max doesn’t have to do things differently to other children.”

Will Kylie be nicer to Michael (Les Dennis) now?

“I think she and David are slowly coming round to him being with Gail. But, as you’ll see in a while, things gets to a point where Kylie has bigger issues to worry about…”

David and Kylie return from their beach break in Barbados more stressed than they were before they left! Turns out it’s been the holiday from hell due to young Max’s bad behaviour. “Max was playing up the whole time they were away and David feels they should get him checked out to try and find out what’s wrong,” Jack tells Soaplife. Problem is, Kylie’s dead against it. . .

Why doesn’t Kylie (Paula Lane) want to take Max to the doctors?

“While David feels there may be a medical reason why Max has become so disruptive, Kylie thinks it’s hereditary, a bad gene passed down from her or Max’s biological dad. She blames herself. But she also fears there’s something seriously wrong with Max - that’s the other reason she doesn’t want him to see a doctor. She’s scared.”

Is David aware that Kylie’s really struggling with Max?

“Yeah, she can’t really handle it. She’s getting more stressed and angry every time Max does something wrong. David’s stressed, too, but he seems to cope better. He’s always telling Kylie she’s a great mum, but she’s always saying she’s terrible.”

She’s very down on herself…

“That’s Kylie. She struggles with everything - and much more than David does. He takes life as it comes and just deals with it, whereas Kylie dwells on things and blames mistakes she’s made in her past. She lets things get to her more than David and this is certainly getting to her.”

Is it putting a strain on David and Kylie’s marriage?

“It is at the minute. All they seem to be doing is arguing about who’s looking after Max and who’s supposed to be watching him. There’s more tension between them when a letter arrives from Max’s school, fining them for taking him on holiday during term time. David’s like ‘I told you so’ to Kylie, but he doesn’t go on too much because she’s already stressed. Kylie’s adamant they’re not paying it, but David just thinks they should so they can move on. Max is going off the rails and that’s their priority.”

Coronation Street actress Paula Lane has got married, with many of her co-stars making up the wedding guests.

Paula, who plays Kylie Platt in the ITV soap, married her teenage sweetheart Tom Shaw at Leeds Cathedral with plenty of famous faces wishing her well, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 28-year-old has been with Tom since she was 17, when they met at Huddersfield Tech, and got engaged to him just before Christmas in 2011.

Paula's screen husband Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, was one of the guests, along with Jane Danson who plays her character's sister-in-law Leanne Tilsley, Helen Worth (Paula's mother-in-law Gail McIntyre), Lisa George (Beth Tinker), Debbie Rush (Anna Windass), Ben Price (Kylie's brother-in-law Nick Tilsley) and Catherine Tyldesley (Eva Price).

The bride wore a classic white dress with long lace sleeves and was walked down the aisle by mum Anne Werritt, before moving on to her reception at Rudding Park in Harrogate on retro double decker buses.

Coronation Street’s Paula Lane reveals to Soaplife that after passing out drunk and neglecting her children, Kylie finally admits she still loves David and is ready to give their marriage another go…

So, Kylie gets a wake-up call. What happens?

“Her emotions are all over the place. She’s embarrassed about her behaviour at Max’s Nativity play and on Christmas Day. She’s feeling sorry for herself and can’t really work out her feelings for David. So she gets drunk - it numbs everything.”

And knocks her out! How does she feel when David wakes her and she realises Max has been trying to cook tea?

“She’s still a bit delirious and it takes her a while to come round. She’s immediately on the defensive and accuses him of attention seeking, but when she starts to sober up she realises the danger Max was in. She feels awful.”

How does David get through to her?

“It’s his look of absolute horror rather than his words that makes her think about her actions and what could have happened. She starts to realise the time has maybe come to admit she’s prepared to give it another go with David.”

Does she still love him?

“Yes - that’s been her problem. If she didn’t love him, she’d have been able to cut her losses and move on. She has been grieving over her marriage. David is quite hard on her and sort of shakes her back to her senses.”

How does she react to that?

“Kylie tells David she doesn’t have the confidence to make the relationship work and is worried they are going to be another disaster. Kylie has been completely rocked by everything, but David is brilliant with her. He brings her back round and she realises what she is missing.”

Are you pleased they’re back together?

“Yes - apart from anything else, it means Kylie stops being so miserable! It’s quite draining. I think she can bounce back now. She has some fight left in her.”

Paula Lane tells Soaplife that it’s over for Kylie and David when she finds out he tried to kill his brother Nick in Coronation Street…

It’s been a rough time for new mum Kylie what with the sleepless nights, the pressure of Nick being at death’s door and the constant niggle that baby Lily might be his. But all this fades into insignificance when she stumbles across David’s DNA test results (the test Nick ordered him to have done) and realises he has known for months that Nick could be Lily’s dad…

What does Kylie think when she finds the DNA test results?

“She really panics. She tells Nick about the DNA letter and he pretends to be alarmed and tries to assure Kylie that David knows nothing about their one-night stand. Kylie’s not convinced.”

And she knows Tina knows something…

“Kylie’s seen Tina and David speaking and texting and suspects they’re having an affair. David assures her they’re not, but Kylie is still convinced Tina’s keeping something from her so she begs Tina to tell her what it is…”

And?

“All Tina will say is that Kylie needs to speak to Nick. Suddenly Kylie realises that David knows she slept with Nick. She just feels numb.”

But she goes to see Nick, not David…

“Kylie confronts Nick and he’s forced to admit David found out about their one-night stand months ago and it was David who orchestrated the vendetta against him. Kylie realises with shock that David tried to kill Nick.”

How does she feel?

“The lowest she’s ever felt. This is the biggest betrayal, it’s too dark for her and she can’t comprehend that someone she shares her bed with could do this.”

Why does Kylie choose Lily’s christening for the showdown?

“I guess she just thinks it’s the moment when all cards can be on the table. There have been way too many secrets and this is a chance for everyone to just spill. More than anything she wants to know why David was so evil.”

Is she scared for the future?

"She’s scared she didn’t see what David was doing and she’s gutted that the man she loves has done this. She also knows she sort of pushed him to it by sleeping with Nick, but this is way darker than anything she ever imagined David would do. Now her biggest fear is the Platts will push her out.”

Do they?

“No. It’s David who’s kicked out. The family rally round her because she has the children. She gets off quite lightly and David’s left with nothing.”

Is this the end for David and Kylie?

“She still loves him, but she can’t bring herself to forgive him at this point. And she can’t imagine she ever will…”

Paula Lane reveals to Soaplife that Sean screams louder than Kylie does when she goes into labour in Coronation Street. But that’s the least of Kylie’s worries…

Does Kylie have any warning signs before she goes into labour?

"The odd twinge while she’s at the Bistro, but it’s not until she’s home that it really starts. She’s on her own, can’t move, there’s music blaring out and no one can hear her. She’s petrified."

OMG! What happens?

"Sean hears her screaming and goes screaming for help and Gail arrives and delivers the baby! Kylie’s in such a state, she doesn’t care who it is. She’s just glad someone’s there."

And it’s a girl! Does Kylie wonder about the daddy?

"It’s always on the surface for Kylie. It’s easier for her when she and David are playing happy families, but then someone will say something that reminds her Nick could be the father. While Nick’s in hospital she can pretend that everything is going to be OK, but it isn’t."

Will Kylie have a DNA test done?

"She’s not keen. In many ways it’s easier not to know who the father is. What if she has the test and Nick’s the father? What does she do then?"

Does Kylie have any idea that David knows about her and Nick?

"No. She’s under the impression David is blaming himself for what’s happened to Nick and that’s why he’s been acting so strangely."

Could David be a danger to Kylie?

"Definitely! She’s not in a good place at the moment and I’m quite worried for her."

Tina implores David Platt to confess his part in the car crash in Coronation Street next week, but before he gets the chance, he learns that wife Kylie has gone into labour.

The paternity of Kylie's baby is still unknown – the father could be David or his half-brother Nick, who lies in a coma as a result of the car crash - but that becomes unimportant when Gail has to play midwife when Kylie's labour begins suddenly.

Coronation Street's Paula Lane has revealed Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price have very different kissing styles.

The actress plays Kylie Platt, who is married to David (Jack), but had a drunken one-night stand with his half-brother Nick Tilsley (Ben) and doesn't know who is the father of her baby.

Paula told The Sun: "They're very different kissers. Ben was fast and furious, but Jack likes to make a big fuss of it."

The 27-year-old actress admitted she finds filming love scenes nerve-wracking.

She said of filming Kylie's one-night stand with Nick: "My heart that day was beating so fast I thought you could see it out my top. I was so nervous.

"Even now with Jack doing intimate moments, he isn't my partner and it's weird."

But when they aren't filming awkward love scenes on Coronation Street, Paula revealed she and Jack and Ben get on really well off screen.

She said: "Ben and Jack are like naughty brothers. We are like a real family and we do everything together.

"Jane Danson (Leanne) is like a big sister to me too at the moment as we've had a lot of scenes together. And Helen (Worth, who plays Gail) is like the mum. They wind me up. Jack will say to me, 'Well, they've told me David is getting back with Tina', just to see the reaction on my face. I never know if they mean it!"
