Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has announced the birth of her twin girls, who were born on Thursday, April 13

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter and partner Rudi Coleano welcomed their twin girls to the world earlier this month.

The actress plays Chastity Dingle in ITV soap Emmerdale and already has a daughter with partner Rudi. Lola, aged 11, is said to be delighted at becoming a big sister.

A spokeswoman for Emmerdale said: “Lucy Pargeter and Rudi Coleano are delighted to announce the birth of their twin girls, who were born on Thursday April 13.

“All are happy and healthy and Lola is delighted to have finally become a big sister.”

Lucy, 40, has played village favourite Chastity Dingle in the ITV soap since 2002.

The actress’s character has been temporarily written out of the Yorkshire Dales soap while she is on maternity leave. Chas has been taking care of Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele), her son Aaron’s (Danny Miller) half-sister while he is in prison, as her mother lives in Ireland. She decided to take Liv to see her mother after she had an accident.

Lucy said recently: “It’ll be me gone for a while, but not too long, depending. I’ll be back very soon. Fictionally, I’m in Ireland, having a lovely summer.”

The twins were due on 3 May, but were born three weeks prematurely. Twins are rarely allowed to go over 37 weeks due to potential complications at birth.

Lucy has been engaged to Rudi, a football goal-keeping coach, for 12 years. The couple announced Lucy's pregnancy last year after years without success. The actress tried IVF in 2015 which was unsuccessful, but she was delighted the second treatment was a success.

She has starred in Emmerdale since 2002 and took part in I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in 2013.

Chas can’t accept mum Faith’s return to the village so she exits Emmerdale for Ireland, reveals Lucy Pargeter...

One person who definitely won’t be rushing out to buy a Mother’s Day card this year is Chas Dingle, who can barely look at mum Faith without snarling. But Faith’s determined to get closer to her daughter and, when Debbie steps in to help, Chas isn’t feeling the love. “She is determined not to make things up with her mum,” Chas actress Lucy Pargeter tells Soaplife. “She wouldn’t be bothered if she got on the next bus and left.”

What’s the relationship like between Chas and Faith? “It isn’t good at all. They’re at loggerheads and Chas would rather her mum went back to wherever she came from. She doesn’t like her being around and wheedling her way back into the family.”

But Faith is trying really hard… “She is. Faith [Sally Dexter] continuously tries to make things up to her daughter. She’s like, ‘I’m trying here! Why aren’t you giving me anything back?’ She wants to explain herself and she’s trying to have that conversation.”

Why does Chas hate her so much? “Everything stems from Chas’ upbringing with Faith and how she left her and her brother, Cain [Jeff Hordley], and disappeared out of their lives. I don’t think Faith’s parenting skills were brilliant when she was around either.”

Why can’t Chas forgive her? “She blames her mum for all the mistakes she made with her own son, Aaron [Danny Miller]. The trouble is, Faith reminds her that she hasn’t always been the best mum either, but she didn’t exactly have a great role model.”

How does Debbie try to patch things up between Faith and Chas? “Chas asks niece Debbie [Charley Webb] if she can help as she’s really worried about Sarah, who’s going though cancer treatment. Debbie invites her to have lunch at the farm and says, ‘Don’t worry. Faith isn’t there. She’s in town.’ But when she turns up, Faith is there and Debbie forces her to is sit down and chat.”

We hear a situation with Liv Flaherty’s mum, Sandra, gives Chas a way out… “Yes. Sandra’s had an accident in Ireland, where she lives. Because of all that’s happening with Faith and because Aaron’s in prison, Chas is Liv’s acting mother and she agrees to take Liv [Isobel Steele] over to see her mum.”

Does that mean you’re going to be leaving Emmerdale, Lucy? “It will be me gone for a while, though not for too long. I’ll be in Ireland having a lovely summer, but I’ll be back soon…”

Emmerdale, ITV

Emmerdale stars Sally Dexter and Lucy Pargeter reveal what’s in store for mother and daughter duo Faith and Chas Dingle this Mothering Sunday – and share some of their own special memories...

While mums up and down the country will be getting chocolates and flowers this Mother’s Day, (we hope!) there’ll be no such gifts for Emmerdale’s flightly Faith Dingle, who’ll be lucky to get the time of day from daughter Chas.

But while Chas is determined to keep her estranged mum at arm’s length, Faith is equally intent on building bridges, and has an ally in granddaughter Debbie. Can the pair be reunited? Actresses Sally Dexter and Lucy Pargeter give us a hint of what’s to come…

What would Chas’s idea of the perfect Mother’s Day be? Lucy: Not having to deal with the bar or Charity, and having a lovely day with Aaron – who’d be at home and not in prison. They’d have breakfast in the back room, then go for a walk and a talk.

And Faith’s? Sally: Definitely a good long lie in and a gentle awakening with a magnum of champagne and smoked salmon for show – and then a bacon sandwich because she loves them!

How is the mother/daughter relationship right now between Faith and Chas?

Lucy: It’s not great; it’s never been great. Faith has come back on the scene and she’s trying to buy her way in with the money she put up for Sarah’s cancer treatment. There’s an awful lot of history to be worked on and worked out. Sally: Chas is still a bit hostile. But Faith continues to keep trying to have the relationship that she wants with her and Cain, and she always has faith that it will work out in the end.

Why is Chas so anti-Faith? Lucy: It’s deep rooted from when Faith left her and Cain with Shadrach. They had an alcoholic father to deal with, so there’s an awful lot of hurt and a lot of things she has passed down to Chas, in terms of her own lack of mothering skills.

Debbie wants them to re-unite – what does she do to try and help them along? Lucy: She invites Chas up to Butler’s Farm, and Chas is then confronted with Faith, and Debbie saying “We have to sit and talk about this.” Sally: Faith desperately wants Chas to give her another chance. There is a point where they almost come together. Chas comes in for a hug but, for one reason or another, Faith declines it. We’ll find out why that is at some point…

Would you like Faith and Chas to become close in the future? Lucy: I’m really enjoying exploring the history, and finding out why Chas has done what she has done in the past in terms of parental responsibility toward Aaron. So I’m enjoying the way it is at the moment. Faith: Yes please!! In lots of ways, they are very similar. They’ve both got this streak of steel through the middle of them, but there is a very soft heart there as well.

Lucy, what do you think of Chas as a mum? She does try, and she’s come on in leaps and bounds in the past couple of years. She’s more like a friend and a whinging sister sometimes, but she hasn’t had anybody to learn from. I wouldn’t advocate her way of parenting as the best way to do things, but she’s improving.

Sally, do you think Faith is capable of being a better mum? I think Faith will do everything she possibly can to be a better mother - she can’t really be that much worse because she wasn’t there for them, growing up. She’s learnt through her mistakes and she’s showing she does have that maternal side with her great granddaughter, Sarah.

Lucy, you’re mum, off-screen, to daughter Lola, 11, and you’re expecting twins in the Spring. What’s in store for you this Mother’s Day? I’d be quite happy just not having to get up and do any chores. If I don’t have to put any washing on or do any shopping and I can just slob around in my PJs and have some chocolates and a card, I’d be more than happy. Dinner would be the cherry on the top, but I’ll be lucky if my lot remember!

Lucy Pargeter and husband Rudi Coleano attending the British Soap Awards 2016 (Image credit: PA Archive/PA Images)

And Sally, what do you have planned? My mum's always said she doesn't like Mothers Day; it is a commercial venture and she wants nothing to do with it. One year, I took her at her word and didn’t send her a card, and she was furious! So me and my sister don’t do that anymore; we’ll make sure she gets flowers and chocolates.

What lessons have your own mums taught you? Lucy: I was the youngest of three, and by the time it got to me, my parents had been there, seen it and done everything, so I was pretty much free in that they gave me the advice they knew was right, but let me make my own decisions. So hopefully I’ll do that with my own kids. Sally: I remember a piece of advice that she told us her father had told her, which was when she was frightened to go upstairs because of the dark. He’d said “It’s not the dead you want to be frightened of; it’s the living!” That’s stuck with me!

There are lots of mums in the Emmerdale cast. Who do you think deserves an award? Lucy: I’d say it was a tie between Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel Thomas) and Zoe Henry (Rhona Goskirk). Charlotte Bellamy manages three kids, a dog, a house, she always has home-made food on the go and she still manages to come in and be on it at work. Zoe and Jeff (husband Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain) are always taking their kids away at weekends, seeing friends or spending time on their allotment. I can only aspire to be that organised! Sally: I’ve got to say Lucy. I’ve got huge respect for the way she’s been carrying twins around, standing behind that bar in high-heeled shoes. I’ve never seen her in flats; I think she’s extraordinary!

The not knowing, the wanting to get excited.

“For my age, the chance of it working was 20%, so we were pumping so much money into it and wanted it so badly, but it was completely out of our control.

“You can do everything right, but if those eggs don’t want to stick, they won’t.”

Lucy and Rudi are parents to 11-year-old Lola, and Lucy said she fell pregnant just six months into their relationship.

Lucy said: “Ever since Lola, we’ve been trying for 11 years and now we’re expecting twins.

“We thought if it happens, it happens. But it never did. We just thought I was too stressed out with work or a house renovation.

“We never had any concerns about secondary infertility [the inability to fall pregnant after already giving birth to one or more children] because we had Lola so easily after six months of being together.

“It wasn’t until three or four years ago that I was like, hang on, I’m not getting any younger.

“Women don’t realise that it’s not just you getting older, it’s your eggs getting older and your egg reserves get less every year.

“There is so much pressure for women to concentrate on their careers before kids, but then they get to 38 onwards and their career is fine, but their body isn’t.”

Thankfully everything worked out for the couple, and they are looking forward to welcoming the babies in the spring.

Today Lucy took to Twitter to offer words of support for anyone else going through fertility treatment.

She wrote:

It is not yet known how Chastity will be written out of the soap while Lucy goes on maternity leave to take care of the twins.

Chas thinks her PTSD is back, all because of Emma and possible pregnancy… Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter tells the whole story to Soaplife...

How is Chas feeling in the wake of Gordon's death?

"For Chas, Gordon's death is not a relief, but it is some kind of justice. However, she's worried about the affect it has on Aaron [Danny Miller], who'll never get closure. Gordon [Gary Mavers] will never admit what he did and Chas is concerned about him and Liv [Isobel Steele]."

What’s going on with DS Wise?

"He was a constant reassuring arm, throughout the whole trial. Whenever Chas went on one of her vengeance trips, he would say, 'No, trust us, we'll sort it!'. He fancies Chas, but she isn't ready for a relationship so soon after Gordon."

How does she end up getting run over by James?

"She has a binge session with Charity in the pub and, next day, she goes for a walk to clear her head. James [Bill Ward], meanwhile, is rehearsing a proposal as he plans to ask Emma to marry him. Neither of them are concentrating and, when Chas steps in front of the car, it clips her and she hurts her hand."

And how does that lead to her doing a pregnancy test at his house?

"James takes her to hospital and a nurse asks Chas if she might be pregnant and it just kind of comes out. She has a pregnancy test, she's been meaning to do, and she tells James about it. She does it at his house, but it gives Emma [Gillian Kearney] the wrong idea."

Then Chas has a panic attack, right?

"The bar is trashed and she freaks out. She's been having nightmares and she isn't sleeping well. She thinks her PTSD must be back, but can't think how because she's been having treatment and it's all been going well. Everything is getting on top of her and she has this panic attack, which Emma witnesses."

Ah, Emma… Why does Chas let Emma help her?

"Emma helped her before when she was ill. She helps her to get her breath and she suggests getting her into a mental health clinic. She's a nurse so Chas has no reason to be suspicious."

Is the PTSD back?

"You'll have to wait and see. Chas will always have to keep an eye on her mental health. PTSD is something you can live with and deal with, but you have to be on guard to nip it in the bud if it reappears."

Are you enjoying running The Woolpack with Charity?

“I love Emma Atkins [who plays Charity] to bits. She's a breath of fresh air and extremely funny, but I do miss Liz Estensen [who plays Diane] dearly, as we worked behind the bar for so many years together.”

What is in store for Chas?

"I've got no idea. I haven't had a meeting with our new producer. I heard a rumour via a co-star that Chas was getting together with a certain member of the cast. I'd be very pleased if this happens as I love them dearly…"

Emmerdale, ITV

Bad things happen in soap operas, and, let’s be honest, we probably wouldn’t tune in if they didn’t. Pay a visit to Emmerdale village and you’re likely to cross paths with murderers, adulterers and crooks in the time it takes to walk from the Woolpack to the corner shop.

For one resident however, the constant trauma is now taking its toll. Chas Dingle, who has been behaving oddly for a while, is diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder next week. She’s already stabbed poor Diane Sugden in the dark and is convinced that she is being stalked by off-kilter nurse Emma Barton, but the truth is the demons are all in her head…

Emmerdale’s Lucy Pargeter talks to TV Times about Chas Dingle’s disturbing battle with mental illness.

How have you tackled the mental health storyline?

“I am surprised that the whole village hasn’t been diagnosed with it at some point [laughs]. Finally, we are showing the audience that you can’t go through as much stuff as Chas has without there being some consequences.

"People think it is only soldiers that suffer from PTSD, but it can happen to anybody and can have so many different triggers.”

What research have you done to portray the illness truthfully?

"We have been working closely with the charity MIND. They are quite happy for us to be doing this with a female character. We have been working with them to find out how the symptoms can manifest. With Chas, there has been some sleepwalking and when it really takes over, hallucinations kick in.”

You’ve been in Emmerdale for 13 years and had some very demanding storylines to date...

“Yes, Chas was raped by Carl King in 2012 and a year later, narrowly escaped death at the hands of Cameron Power, who was engaged to her niece. What is happening now is the repercussions of all the things that have happened over the years to Chas. And the way they are filming it, is very different.”

The PTSD storyline must have been pretty challenging?

“It’s been a really big challenge. I like the way they have built it up gradually. I knew that this was coming up earlier this year and have been looking forward to it.”

You’ve been working flat out and recently moved house, so how have you managed?

“We’re renovating this new house and my daughter has changed school, so it’s been full on. I’ve been really het up for the past couple of months, but it has been brilliant. As an actor, you always have that devil on your shoulder saying 'You’re not doing this right', but I hope I have. If I haven’t, I apologise massively. I’ve been blessed really because it is a great storyline.”

What do you do to unwind after a hard day at work?

“I’m a real homebody and love chilling out with my family and walking the dogs. But I haven’t been able to relax at home because it’s been in a state of upheaval. I have just had a week’s holiday, but it hasn’t really been a holiday because I spent the time wrangling with builders.

“I haven’t had any time to relax, but I’m fine, really. I would like a massage and I’d really love a manicure, but I just don’t have the time. Let’s just say I am really looking forward to Christmas.”

Do you find it hard juggling work and home life?

“Nobody talks openly about what a struggle it is to juggle work and home life – you can’t have it all as it kind of has to fall apart. Everything frays at the edges and something has to give. I am not special. Everybody does it. It’s what happens in normal life it is just that our hours are a bit more unsociable, but then if we weren’t doing it, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the lifestyle that we have.

“When I come to work, I am never bored. If you were doing these hours and not having fun at work, well, that would be scary.”

How do you manage to look great and keep in good shape after such long hours at work?

“I put it down to what I eat and drink. I’m a keen juicer and have got half the cast of Emmerdale downing exotic concoctions on a regular basis. Everybody here juices now. I used to do it every night, but that was a bit of a strain, so I do it on a Sunday and shove it all in the freezer to take out the night before.

"I am not perfect, though, as some weeks when I am really busy, as it is at the moment, my life is one big snack fest!”

Living in fear for her life in Emmerdale, traumatised Chas arms herself with a knife - and uses it on Diane, Lucy Pargeter tells Soaplife.

Why is Chas so jumpy at the moment?

“She’s convinced that she’s being stalked. She’s been locked in the cellar, there have been strange goings on in her bedroom and in the bar and she’s heard noises outside. She thinks it’s Emma [Gillian Kearney], who is a bit odd.”

Why does she think Emma has it in for her?

“Emma has this insecurity when it comes to James [Bill Ward]. As soon as he shows any concern for his ex-lover Chas, she thinks he will go back to her.”

Does Chas want James back?

“She has no interest in him at all. In fact, she almost feels betrayed by him because he keeps sticking up for Emma.”

So what does Chas think when she wakes up to find a knife by her bed?

“She thinks it’s a message from Emma – her way of saying that she will need to watch her back. She completely freaks out.”

And then she hears a noise downstairs…

“She thinks Emma is coming to get her – and if it’s not Emma, it’s somebody else. The mystery stalker is downstairs and Chas fears for her life. She goes to investigate and takes the knife with her to defend herself. When she gets downstairs, she hears something and instinct kicks in. She thinks, ‘It’s them or me’ and lunges forward… stabbing Diane!”

No!

“Yes! Chas is horrified to see Diane fall to the floor with a knife wound. She can’t believe what she’s done. She tries to stop the bleeding and calls Aaron [Danny Miller]. He and Cain turn up and Chas runs away. She’s in a panic and Cain [Jeff Hordley] goes after her.”

What’s going on with Chas?

“She has been through a lot and it has got to a point where her family can’t help her any more. She needs some serious professional help.”

Has she killed her friendship with Diane now?

“I hope not. They’re great as a team and I really love working with Liz [Estensen]. The trouble is, Chas has let Diane down many times over the years and Diane has always been quite forgiving. This might be the final straw.”

Emmerdale, ITV.

When he first started he was quite young, so I tended to be like a mother hen. I am like that with everybody, sorting out scripts, making sure people know where everything is in the building, and helping them find somewhere to stay. I am an organiser. So, I do mother him and make sure he is OK and I am upset if he is unhappy.”

Danny: “I won’t say that Lucy is like a mother, as she might not like that. I’d say she is like my big sister. She is very supportive.”

What’s the secret behind your on-screen relationship?

Lucy: “Danny makes work a lot of fun. He does silly voices and mimics people, so I always know the day is going to be enjoyable, even if we are doing heavy scenes. But even though he messes around, the focus is always underneath and he takes the job seriously. He is very professional for a young lad.”

Danny: “It’s always refreshing working with Lucy. When Aaron first told Chas about Robert, she had to slap me and she did it for real which is against the rules really!

"People said ‘Wow, tears fell down your face after that slap’, but that wasn’t fake, she really cracked me with her right hand. There isn’t much in it between her and Pauline Quirke – she made my ears ring and Lucy nearly broke my jaw.”

You’re doing some running scenes together – do you run in real life?

Lucy: “My theory is that the only time a girl should run is if there is a sale on at Harvey Nicks. I don’t run. It’s not good for your boobs, knees or face. I would rather have it sucked out and nipped than go for an actual physical run.

"The scenes where I run are hilarious. I take photos, send them to Rudi [Lucy’s boyfriend Rudi Coleano] and say ‘Look, I am actually in workout gear.’ I don’t have to act looking exhausted; I am huffing and puffing after about four steps.”

Danny: “I used to run, but I stopped and started going to the gym instead. When Aaron really overdoes it, I tend to hold my breath and run up and down the street so I am really out of puff when the camera starts rolling. I hate it when actors are supposed to have done a 10-mile run, but they don’t even look tired.”

What do you make of the Aaron/Robert situation?

Lucy: “I think that Danny and Ryan Hawley are doing brilliantly. They are so electric on screen. Chas isn’t happy about it though. Aaron says it is off at the moment, but she suspects it is still on because he is acting very stressed.

“It was shocking when Brookside did the first lesbian kiss, but seeing two men kiss on screen isn’t surprising any more. I like the fact that we are seeing the vulnerable side of Aaron as he is with someone who could drop him like a stone. When I watch them on screen, I say ‘Don’t you dare be nasty to him!’ Heaven help Robert if Chas finds out he’s hurt her son.”

Danny: “I’m enjoying the drama. Aaron is in love with Robert and he’s reached a point where he is prepared to lie to his mum to have the relationship.

“Robert has said it will never be anything more than a fling, but Aaron would rather have that than nothing. The kissing scenes are very different. Both Ryan and I go into it knowing that we have to kiss the way we do for real – all that’s different is the gender. We don’t like to rehearse too much and try and keep the feeling for the actual take.”

How do you unwind after a heavy day at work?

Lucy: “Unwind? I don’t unwind. I get home at 8pm, my daughter Lola is already in bed, so I sort out the dogs, house etc, shove some food down my neck, learn some lines and go to bed early so that I can get up at 6am the next day. But I wouldn’t swap it for anything. I love Emmerdale – I always have and always will.”

Danny: "I have an hour-long drive back home to Manchester. I put on some music and try and forget about Aaron. Being in his head for 12 hours is long enough for one day!”

Should the pair be worried about Robert?

Lucy: “Chas is not bothered by him. She is quite ballsy and sees him as a person who she can take on. Robert might play the big man, but he is a coward. However, he has something up his sleeve for Chas.”

Danny: "You might see Robert go to extreme measures to avoid the truth coming out.”

What else can you tell us…?

Lucy: “Keep watching. The storyline has been brilliantly mapped out – it’s like a map of the underground and it all comes together cleverly.”

Danny: “There is plenty more to come. You’ll see Aaron push himself even more with the running. Robert tells Aaron he loves him, but does he really or is he using him…?”

He’s still wanted by the police. But Chas has a plan to change that…

After two years hiding from the law in France, Chas’s son, Aaron, returns to Emmerdale tonight (Thursday). But it’s no time to bring out the bunting. Chas knows if the police catch him, he’ll go to jail for arson - even though Adam is the arsonist. “Chas is happy to see Aaron, but she’s also angry, shocked and confused. She can’t tell anyone where he is and she’s finding it stressful,” Lucy reveals to Soaplife…

So Chas didn’t know Aaron (Danny Miller) was coming home?

“No. She called Aaron to tell him Adam was in trouble, but he didn’t tell her he was coming back. She makes a call to his phone and, when she gets an English ring tone, she realises he’s in the UK.”

To help Adam (Adam Thomas)…

“Yes and she’s concerned that if Adam is involved in anything dodgy, and Aaron tries to help, he’ll get into more trouble. He’s on a slippery slope.”

But Aaron is troubled, isn’t he?

“Chas and Aaron are holed up in Moira’s [Natalie J Robb] barn when Aaron goes to change his clothes. Chas sees fresh scars where he’s self-harmed, which makes her remember how desperate and bitterly unhappy he was after his partner Jackson’s death.”

What does Chas want to do about her son?

“She asks Cain to go the police and tell the truth about Adam starting the fire. She tells Cain [Jeff Hordley] that if he doesn’t say something, then she will. She’s got the opportunity to get her son back and she wants to take it.”

What about James (Bill Ward)? Does she worry about how he’ll feel if Adam goes to prison?

“She’s only thinking of her own son. He’s more important than anybody else and she tells James that.”

How do you see Chas and Aaron’s relationship developing?

“They are never going to enjoy a typical mother-son relationship. Chas is over-protective and not a great role model. Although she is settling down a bit in her old age, it won’t be plain sailing. It’ll be great to see her mothering side try to come out, though.”

Emmerdale, ITV. On a drunken night out Chas and James play truth or dare and Chas reveals her deepest secret - that her son Aaron Livesy fled the village not because he torched the garage as everyone believes, but because he is covering for his mate Adam Barton, who really did it.

James then decides to tell her his secret, that he is Adam's real father.

Lucy revealed: "He opens up to her about Adam and she's shocked. And her first instinct is, 'Does Cain know?'

"She assumes he knows and when James says it's only Moira, myself and you that know she says, 'I'm sorry but I'm going to have to tell Cain. After everything that I've been through in the past year with my family - I was disowned by my family for keeping secrets. I have to tell Cain, it's not right.'

"Both James and Moira are desperate for her to keep her mouth shut - but will she?"

The actress also revealed that despite her reaction to James's secret, Chas is starting to fall for the farmer.

Lucy said: "She's kind of done it again, she's fallen quite rapidly for this new man in the village, so she is falling for him, stupidly, and rather quickly.

"She doesn't really want him to move in, but it's kind of by default really because he's got nowhere to stay, so she's like just move in here. It's not really her plan, but he does move in and then she kind of likes him around.

"I don't think she's thinking long term and she didn't want him to move in that quickly, but she likes having a man about the place."

– Press Association

A teen who ran-up a £1,158 phone bill voting on TV show I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! has had to forfeit a chunk of her Christmas money to help pay the cost.

College student Nicole Hassall was unaware she was incurring charges when she repeatedly rang the ITV show's voting line on her mobile with the enormous bill only becoming apparent when her telephone operator sent her mother a warning by text message.

The 18-year-old's mother, Eileen Hassall, who is also the bill-payer, said she wanted people to be aware how quickly charges can build up, after now facing the prospect of paying a huge bill at Christmas time.

Meanwhile, mobile phone company Orange said it would halve the bill as a gesture of goodwill.

The company's records indicate Nicole made calls continuously over a six-hour period, after she watched Wednesday's (December 4) episode with her mother at home.

Mrs Hassall said her daughter had, unknown to her, been ringing from her bedroom after the programme finished to cast repeated votes for Lucy Pargeter, who had swapped her usual role as Chas Dingle in ITV's Emmerdale soap for the heat and humidity of the jungle.

Nicole's mother, who is also an avid watcher of the show, said: "She said she had made a couple of calls over a few hours."

Despite Nicole's calls to the premium rate line, it was Kian Egan of boyband Westlife who was crowned King of The Jungle during Sunday's final, with Ms Pargeter finishing in third place after leaving the show on Saturday (December 7).

In any case, her shocked mother is now unhappy about having to pay even the reduced amount of about £690.

Mrs Hassall believes that, with an ordinary monthly contract bill of just £21 a month, Orange should have acted sooner to warn her costs were spiralling out of control.

"They texted me later that night saying 'ring urgently' and it was £350, and then it kept going up until they gave me the final bill of £1,158," said the 62-year-old, of Abbey Hulton, near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

"I felt sick. It's never happened before, and Nicole just thought she was using up the minutes she gets on her contract.

"She didn't know what she had done - she's upset about it, we both are."

According to Mrs Hassall, Orange eventually blocked her daughter's mobile phone altogether.

She said Nicole, who is studying animal care at college, had since offered to pay her mother £250 of money given to her by her father for Christmas to help pay the bill.

However, Mrs Hassall says she will be waiting for the itemised bill which is due to arrive on Boxing Day before paying a penny.

An Orange spokesperson said: "We sympathise with Ms Hassall and have offered a substantial reduction on her bill as a gesture of goodwill.

"To help customers avoid high charges from voting lines we terminated each of the calls after six seconds.

"However, as the customer in this instance continued to call the number for several hours additional charges were incurred."

The company also offers downloadable apps and runs an online bill-checker for parents concerned about their children's mobile use, also allowing an option where charges can be capped on a handset.

I feel an awful lot better.”

Amy Willerton has confronted her I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! campmate Lucy Pargeter for leading 'a campaign of hate' against her.

The beauty queen has been criticised by the other celebrities for bringing in banned make-up to the jungle and for not doing enough around the camp.

But the 21-year-old told Olympic champion swimmer Rebecca Adlington: "The other women snap at me constantly and you might not have noticed it, but they whisper so much and are making me paranoid. I just think I haven't done anything."

She added: "It's only me they have an issue with, they all get on with each other."

Amy, who has been flirting with Joey Essex, confronted Emmerdale actress Lucy, saying: "The way it was put to me yesterday was that you were leading a campaign of hate against me."

The actress hit back, saying: "Who said that? Was it Al? (Alfonso Ribeiro) That is twisting s***. It wasn't a hatred campaign, and it was the fact that everyone felt the same, things are being twisted here."

Lucy added: "You were lounging around and doing nothing. We all stink and look like s**t and when I feel someone is keeping something from the team, I get p***** off. I'm not having that going on and I'm going to be saying something."

The two women then hugged and cleared the air, but Lucy later told EastEnders actress Laila Morse: "I'm apparently the ring leader and running a hate campaign against her."

Laila easily won 10 out of 11 stars on her Bushtucker Trial, which included letting soldier crabs crawl over her face, which she called "quite a nice feeling".

Meanwhile, the departure of TV presenter Annabel Giles, first to be voted out of the jungle, left some of her campmates in tears.

Vincent Simone said through tears: "I didn't think I was going to be this upset. The fact that me and Annabel joined the camp together obviously made us closer together. Nobody will ever know what it's like to be in that situation."

Fashion designer David Emanuel said of the atmosphere: "It's like somebody's died."

But Joey said: "I was lying in my bed this morning thinking how much I've grown up in here. If it's my time to leave I'm going a man already. I think it's been sick."

Get Me Out Of Here!

The actress plays Chas Dingle in the ITV drama and says she isn't looking for a new job on the back of the exposure the reality show would give her.

She said: "I am not doing it for those reasons. I have got a job and I am not doing it to further my career. When I come out of the show, I will go back to Emmerdale. For me, it's more of a personal challenge."

Lucy, 36, admitted deciding to take part was a snap decision she made after the I'm A Celebrity... producers approached her.

She said: "I am bricking myself now about going into the jungle. You start thinking 'Why am I doing it? Why am I putting myself through it?'

"I do tend to make all my decisions in life on the spur of the moment. I don't really think about it. But at the same time, there comes a time where it's good to make myself do something I would not normally do.

"I am 36, I don't challenge myself, I don't do anything out of the ordinary. I am very happy with the routine of my life I have got."

Lucy said her biggest fear was viewers seeing her as herself rather than her alter-ego.

"I have always been able to hide behind my character. People will see me as me, which is weird to get your head around. That is the most worrying part, really. I am most scared of the fear of people not liking you.

"But I want to give everything a go. The challenges are not there for you to enjoy. They are there to cause you grief and make people laugh," she said.

See photos of the 2013 I'm a Celebrity... line-up here.

Lucy Pargeter reveals to Soaplife how Chas finally sees the guilt written all over Cameron’s face in Emmerdale… and what she does about it!

Poor Chas! Before she gets suspicious about Cameron she’s still grieving for Gennie, isn’t she?

"Yes, she’s devastated. She also feels guilty because they had a fall-out over Cameron just before Gennie died. Gennie was still trying to convince Chas that Cameron’s a wrong 'un and Chas was sure he was just suffering from depression."

So Chas isn’t at all suspicious about Gennie’s death?

"No, because there isn’t anything to be suspicious about really. Gennie was a new driver who had a crash. Chas has no reason to suspect foul play."

But she does see reason to start suspecting there’s something going on between Cameron and Debbie, doesn’t she?

"She sees Cameron at Debbie’s house, but when she asks about it, he lies and says he was in the cellar at the pub. At Gennie’s funeral, Chas asks him if Cameron loves her, he says 'yes', but Chas can tell from the way he looks at Debbie that he’s lying. She says to him: 'Do you say that to Debbie? Before or after you’ve slept with her?'…"

And does he confess?

"Yes. He says it’s been going on for a few weeks. She’s devastated and tells him, 'I will deal with you when my sister is in the ground'. She makes a speech about Gennie and it looks as if she’s about to out Debbie and Cameron, but instead she runs out of the church.:

Then Cain finds out…

"He tells Chas it would be better if Cameron wasn’t around and she agrees. Cain bundles Cameron into a car and takes him to a cliff top. Chas is worried for both of them. If Cameron accidentally fell over a cliff she would deal with it, but the implications for Cain are more worrying."

What’s next for Chas?

"She still has the pub and she’s back with her family - she just happens to have lost Cameron and Debbie. She’s strong. She has had enough chucked at her in the past couple of years. The big thing she has to deal with is the grief for her sister’s death."

What if Chas found out Cameron had killed Gennie, Carl and Alex?

"It would mean that the last year of her life has been a lie. I don’t know if she would go down the angry or traumatised route. It would be a massive thing for her to find out that she didn’t actually kill Carl."

Will Chas ever find the right man?

"She knows she should be with a Paddy or a Dan, but they will never light her fire. She likes bad boys!"

But I think the guilt about her and Cameron being together has gone; they’re quite a solid couple. She’s getting to the stage where she’s thinking enough is enough."

And then, suddenly, Debbie wants to make peace...

"She offers Chas a life to Zak and Lisa's house and Chas immediately thinks, ‘Hold on, what’s this about?’ But then she decides that she's willing to give this a go if it means they can start trying to be friends again."

But what it really means is Debbie taking Chas hostage and holding her at gunpoint!

"Chas thinks Debbie has completely lost the plot. But at first she doesn’t think she’ll use the gun. She thinks Debbie is just scaring her. Then Chas realises Debbie is very close to pulling the trigger. She looks into Debbie's eyes and sees she’s completely devoid of any emotion. Debbie’s blank."

Then Cain and Charity find them...

"They turn up but, in Chas’s eyes, things go from bad to worse – although I’m keeping back what actually happens. It does all have to come an end at some point, though - not that I’m saying that this is the absolute end!"
