2025 officially marks the return of the superhero movie. After Marvel was in a multi-year slump post Avengers: Endgame and DC Studios was reconfiguring its identity under James Gunn, the big screen output of both studios this year showed signs of life.

Though Captain America: Brave New World was a rough start to the year, Thunderbolts* was a fun and surprisingly deep story about some Marvel side characters getting the chance to shine for the first time. Superman, meanwhile, even if I wasn’t as big of a fan, offered something different and got people excited about the future of DC’s comic book adaptations. But the best of the bunch is The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The third attempt at bringing Marvel’s iconic family of superheroes to the big screen is the charm. The core four of stars have great chemistry; the director brings a fresh feel to the proceedings; and an epic score helps to elevate it all. That all results in not only one of the best Marvel movies of all time, but one of the best movies I’ve seen this year.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps feels different in large part because it is different from all of the movies we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The movie is set in a different dimension from the main story of the MCU we’ve been following for nearly 20 years, specifically Earth 828 (the main MCU storyline has been set on Earth 199999, for reference).

This world is a blend of 1960s and futuristic styles, where The Fantastic Four — Reed/Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue/The Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny/The Hunan Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) — are beloved heroes and things are going great, with Sue and Reed set to welcome their first child. However, when a being with the capability to devour Earth demands the ultimate sacrifice to save the planet, the Fantastic Four put their brains and mettle to figuring out a plan.

That all leads to a practically perfect superhero movie. It relies on telling the story of a family as much as the galactic threat hanging over them.

While together, the quartet of Pascal, Kirby, Quinn and Moss-Bacrach are fantastic, they each shine individually as well. Pascal’s brainy Reed is a competent, confident leader for the public, while more of an awkward nerd with his family (no one is having a better summer than Pascal between this, Materialists and Eddington). Kirby’s Sue is the emotional heart of the group and movie; a bad-ass mother who won’t stop protecting all that she cares about. Quinn nails the comedic relief role but there’s a sincerity and earnestness to his Johnny that makes him more than a joke machine. And Moss-Bachrach brings a softness and calm to the rock (physically and emotionally) Ben.

Elsewhere, Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer/Shalla-Bal and Ralph Ineson’s Galactus are imposing antagonists that make the most of their screen time. Paul Walter Hauser also has a great bit as Mole Man. And of course, can’t forget to mention Herbie, the heroes robot assistant, who could easily have been a childish marketing ploy, but is handled with enough care and given enough to do that he never feels gimmicky.

The fact that The Fantastic Four: First Step could create such rich characters, tell an engaging and thrilling story and introduce a brand new world within the MCU all under two hours (movie has a runtime of one hour and 55 minutes with credits), is a testament to director Matt Shakman.

Though Shakman only had one feature directing credit to his name prior to The Fantastic Four: First Step, he had plenty of experience directing some of the biggest TV shows of the last decade, including the Marvel and Disney Plus original series WandaVision. With how well made WandaVision was, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that Shakman nailed The Fantastic Four, but he definitely deserves a good amount of credit for reviving what prior to 2025 had become a stale playbook. He, along with screenwriters Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, was even able to pull off making the trademark Marvel sky beam feel less played out.

Supporting all of this was the brilliant work by composer Michael Giacchino. While no stranger to the MCU and superheroes — he previously scored Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies, Thor: Love and Thunder and The Batman — Giacchino outdid himself this time. His Fantastic Four theme is instantly iconic, while his epic score perfectly blends and accentuates both the movie’s action scenes and its quieter moments. I hope an Oscar nomination is in line for Giacchino’s score; one of many potentially award-worthy elements from the movie.

Kevin Feige recently talked about Marvel’s recent ups and downs, including the argument that the studio has been choosing quantity over quality in recent years. Time will tell whether The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a blip on the radar or a turning point, but it certainly feels like quality is the dominant theme in this movie. As a result, The Fantastic Four: First Steps may have just saved the MCU and helped to usher in a new era of superhero movies.

The summer season is upon us. While the summer blockbuster movie season gets much of the hype, TV doesn't take the summer off, as there are plenty of enticing and exciting TV shows (new and returning) for people to watch as they try to beat the heat. We here at What to Watch certainly has a number of shows that we can't wait to dive into.

Along with my What to Watch colleagues Sarabeth Pollock and Terrell Smith, we have put together a list of 17 summer TV shows that we're most excited to tune in for and/or binge this summer ranging across streaming services and cable channels. All shows are premiering from Memorial Day weekend through August (even though those later shows will likely bleed a little bit into the fall TV season).

Rick and Morty season 8 (May 25, Adult Swim)

The first summer TV show to premiere is none other than the latest adventures of Rick and Morty. The mad scientist, his grandson and the rest of the Smith family will once again traverse the galaxy and multiverse for our entertainment.

Rick and Morty season 7 proved that the show was capable of still being both hilarious and thought provoking despite the exit of Justin Roiland, so the expectations for Rick and Morty season 8 are sky high for the fan-favorite animated series. — Michael Balderston

And Just Like That season 3 (May 29, Max)

I never watched Sex and the City while it was airing, but I was definitely familiar with the story of four friends living fabulous lives in New York City. It was a cultural touchstone for a generation of viewers who dreamed of shoes and Cosmos and living in a luxurious apartment on a writer’s salary.

All it took for me was a week-long binge and I was hooked on the original series, so it’s not surprising that I wanted to see what happened with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristen Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) at a different point in their lives in And Just Like That.

In And Just Like That season 3, fans will finally learn whether Carrie and Aidan (John Corbett) are going to stick to their long distance relationship, while Charlotte continues to navigate life with her teens and Miranda figures out what makes her happy. I’m ready to escape to New York this summer! — Sarabeth Pollock

Dept. Q (May 29, Netflix)

At least as of publication, I’m not sure whether or not we’re getting Slow Horses season 5 this summer (Apple TV Plus is expected to release it before the end of the year, but an exact premiere date has not been set). Thankfully, Netflix will have an enticing new series to sate my wisecracking law enforcement officer quota, as Matthew Goode stars as a Scottish detective put in charge of a new division tasked with solving Edinburgh’s toughest cold cases in Dept. Q.

Adding to the intrigue, the series is directed by the creator/director of The Queen’s Gambit, Scott Frank. Say hello to one of my Netflix binges of the summer. — Michael Balderston

Love Island USA season 7 (June 3, Peacock)

After Love Island USA season 6 left quite the impression on viewers (me included) as arguably the best in the history of the franchise, how could I not be excited for Love Island USA season 7. This summer guilty pleasure is fun to watch as unsuspecting men and women in their 20s flock to Fiji in search of love (and the monetary prize). Now ordinarily, I question all reality TV dating shows in terms of whether real romance can be found. However, Love Island USA seemingly has a pretty solid track record. Heck, the PPG couples from Love Island USA season 6 are still together if social media is to be believed.

With all that being said, season 7 has some big shoes to fill. While Ariana Madix is returning to hosting duties, a whole new crop of Islanders will be front and center, and they have the hard task of entertaining fans like their season 6 predecessors. —Terrell Smith

Stick (June 4, Apple TV Plus)

Does Apple TV Plus have another Ted Lasso on its hands? Too soon to tell, but Stick has a few things going for it that the comparison could prove apt.

Owen Wilson stars in the sports comedy as a washed up golf pro who discovers a young phenom and attempts to help develop his game to become a star. While the supporting cast of actors is strong (Judy Greer, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño), the show also features cameos from some of the top golfers in the game today, as well as legendary broadcaster Jim Nantz.

I’m a golf fan, so I’m definitely interested, but Stick could have some appeal to non-golfers as well. — Michael Balderston

Ginny & Georgia season 3 (June 5, Netflix)

Ginny & Georgia season 2 ended on quite the interesting note, with Georgia (Brianne Howey) being hauled away from her marriage reception in handcuffs. In Ginny & Georgia season 3, she’s set to face off in court for the murder of Cynthia’s (Sabrina Grdevich) husband. While Georgia is in fact guilty of a mercy killing, I have a sneak suspicion she’ll once again be saved from prison. However, I just don’t know how that comes about, so I’ll be watching.

It should also prove interesting to see how Ginny (Antonia Gentry) deals with a murderous scarlett letter on her mother’s chest. The teen already had some coming-of-age issues, so trying to stand beside her mother during a criminal case of this magnitude could push her to a whole new level of stress. — Terrell Smith

The Real Housewives of Miami season 7 (June 11, Peacock)

Since The Real Housewives of Miami was resuscitated on Peacock before returning to Bravo, I’ve argued with friends that the reality TV show is arguably the second-best Housewives series on the air, behind The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. The ladies in South Beach really know how to bring the drama in a way that feels less contrived and slightly less toxic. Don’t get me wrong, the arguments among the group can be completely ridiculous at times, but that’s part of what makes the show so entertaining.

The Real Housewives of Miami season 7 could prove to be the best yet, as it appears some alliances are shifting, some romances are ending and the former girlfriend of Nicole’s fiancé Anthony has joined the cast. — Terrell Smith

The Gilded Age season 3 (June 22, HBO)

A friend’s mother recommended The Gilded Age, so I watched it and was immediately captivated. I love history, and the HBO show is like an American history book come to life — with a side of Real Housewives thanks to its high fashion and even higher drama.

The Gilded Age season 3 continues the story of the socialites living the high life in the New York City of yore. After the fallout from the Opera War, the influential families continue vying for power and influence in an ever-changing world.

Though it’s historical fiction, The Gilded Age reminds us that people in that era weren’t so different from us. They’re all trying to figure out where they fit in an ever-changing world. — Sarabeth Pollock

Ironheart (June 24, Disney Plus)

The Ironheart trailer may not be getting a lot of love over on YouTube (for reasons I won't comment on), but it’s a series on my radar this summer. Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams was thrilling to watchin her Marvel debut, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She’s the legacy of Tony Stark’s Iron Man, broaching hero status from a completely different perspective for a variety of reasons, which can add a fresh take in the MCU.

Also adding to my excitement is Anthony Ramos starring in the series as The Hood. Ramos has grown to be a bonafide star in Hollywood, having appeared in In the Heights, Hamilton and She’s Gotta Have It. So my interest is piqued in how Ramos will portray the MCU villain. — Terrell Smith

The Bear season 4 (June 25, FX on Hulu)

By the time that The Bear season 4 premieres on Hulu it will have been a year since The Bear season 3, but somehow it’s felt longer as fans of the series have patiently been waiting to find out what the review for the restaurant says and how the personal and work relationships between our favorite group of chefs turn out.

The Bear dances on the line between comedy (I definitely feel there are some genuinely funny moments, most notably from the Fak family) and drama, but one thing remains true that this is one of the best shows on TV and is a must-watch whenever new episodes are available. — Michael Balderston

Smoke (June 27, Apple TV Plus)

As we’ve highlighted a few times on this list already, crime drama fans are going to have some good options to watch this summer. Another example is the new Apple TV Plus series Smoke, which stars Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett as two investigators following in the footsteps of a pair of serial arsonists.

Best-selling author of Shutter Island, Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone, Dennis Lehane created Smoke, so at the minimum I have high hopes for the show’s writing. But Egerton has also quietly churned out consistently enjoyable projects, like Carry-On, Tetris and Black Bird. Can Smoke keep things going? — Michael Balderston

Squid Game season 3 (June 27, Netflix)

Squid Game season 3 will serve as the series’ last, so I’ll be glued to my screen, watching every episode, dubbed and all (don’t judge me for not soldiering through subtitles). I just have to know if Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) has what it takes to dismantle the deadly game.

In Squid Game season 2, the series ended with Seong pinned down and his team of rebels seemingly on their way to meet a deadly end. However, with a whole new rollout of episodes on the way, I have to believe they may find a way to survive. Plus, Seong still has his team on the outside working to find him, so perhaps a last-minute save will be in the works. — Terrell Smith

Nautilus (June 29, AMC)

I’ve never read Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, but I’m very familiar with Disney’s version featuring Kirk Douglas. The Nautilus series was meant to premiere on Disney Plus, but the deal fell through and the series eventually landed at AMC.

Nautilus is the story of Captain Nemo (Shazad Latif) and his futuristic vessel, the Nautilus. He wants revenge against the tyrannical East India Mercantile Company who stole everything from him. As their former prisoner, the East India Mercantile Company wants the Indian Prince back in custody after he not only escapes prison but steals the Nautilus as well.

To be honest, I can’t even begin to imagine how this story will come to life as a series, but I’m very excited to see it. As a science fiction fan, Verne’s story is the cream of the crop and this could be the biggest surprise of the summer. — Sarabeth Pollock

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 (July 17, Paramount Plus)

After a musical episode that tore the house down in season 2, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is set to up the ante with bigger and bolder adventures. There’s some unfinished business to be addressed in the new season after the crew of the USS Enterprise encountered one of the most feared alien species in the universe: the Gorn.

During a special sneak peek at San Diego Comic Con in 2024, fans were treated to a clip featuring several members of the crew transforming into Vulcans for an important mission. Pike (Anson Mount) is quick to point out that there will be 4.5 Vulcans on the mission, as Ethan Peck’s Spock is half human.

What I love about Strange New Worlds is how it’s a return to the story-of-the-week format as seen in other series in the franchise. As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I love how the show honors canon while charting its own course. — Sarabeth Pollock

Wednesday season 2 (August 6, Netflix)

Wednesday had me eating out its hand (no, not Thing’s) the moment I saw Jenna Ortega doing the now infamous dance. The inaugural season of the series was creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky, but best of all, it was entertaining. I completely understand why Ortega earned an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination for the role.

I’m expecting good things from Wednesday season 2, as rumor has it (from Netflix), more of the Addams family will be showcased, including Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) who becomes a student along with Wednesday at Nevermore Academy. I suspect it will be must-watch TV (well, streaming) to see the sibling dynamic play out in school, along with how Pugsly adjusts to his new classmates and “power.” Oh, and make way for Grandmama (Joanna Lumley) as she storms the show in season 2. — Terrell Smith

Alien: Earth (August 12, FX)

In space, no one can hear you scream. But on Earth, it’s a whole different matter. With Alien: Earth, for the first time we are getting a TV series based on the legendary sci-fi franchise Alien, and to cap it all out we are switching from the usual space location to our own planet.

Noah Hawley, the Emmy-winning creator of Fargo, is certainly going to bring his own spin to the franchise, but at its heart it seems that we’re also going a number of staples — an unsuspecting crew forced to reckon with one of the most perfect killing machines and, in the mold of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, a tough female lead (Sydney Chandler). — Michael Balderston

Dexter: Resurrection (TBD, Paramount Plus with Showtime)

At first there was Dexter, the story of the serial killer with a strict moral code. Then came various spinoffs and a prequel, but in Dexter: Resurrection the story continues with Michael C. Hall set to return to the titular role. Following the events of 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, Dexter is back, we think. It’s hard to say because all evidence pointed to his death at the end of New Blood, yet he’s supposedly coming back for more.

Not knowing is part of the allure. These days there is so much information about new shows and there’s not much known about Resurrection at all, aside from the fact that Hall is returning and so are original series stars David Zayas and James Remar. New Blood’s Jack Alcott will once again play Dexter’s son, Harrison.

For now I'm going to do a re-watch of the original series to get ready for the new show. It’s gory, humorous, sentimental and dramatic all rolled into one. I'm eager to see what happens as the franchise continues. — Sarabeth Pollock

As mentioned, the cast includes Florence Pugh as Yelena, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, David Harbour as Red Guardians and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina, while they are joined by Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost. Others making their MCU debut in the movie include Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer and Wendell Pierce.

The movie is directed by Jake Schreier, whose notable other directing credits include all six episodes of Netflix’s Beef and an episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

The critical reception for Thunderbolts* has been good, with the movie being “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 88%, making it the highest rated Marvel movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It's one of the best times of year for movie fans — the blockbuster movie season. From the start of May to the end of August, some of the biggest 2025 new movies on the docket are going to debut on the big screen; in some cases the biggest screens (IMAX). To help with you're summer viewing planning, I've arranged my personal picks for the must-see blockbuster movies of summer 2025.

The 13 movies featured below are blockbusters by the truest definition — the kind of movies that absolutely have to be seen on the big screen, and in all cases are only going to be available in movie theaters upon their initial release (no streaming exclusives, though admittedly I am excited about Happy Gilmore 2 this summer). Of course, there are alternative summer movies for those not as interested in these big-budget popcorn flicks, but I'll get to those in a separate list.

But enough with the preamble, let's get to the blockbuster movies that you're not going to want to miss out on this summer:

13. Jurassic World Rebirth

In my head I have this great affinity for the Jurassic Park franchise, but in reality the only one that I truly love is Steven Spielberg's 1993 original. And yet, even as every attempt since has mostly paled in comparison to one of Spielberg's masterpieces, we're going for it again with Jurassic World Rebirth — and darn it if I'm not intrigued. Gareth Edwards (The Creator) as director is a fun choice, and Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali are good stars to have attached. I know the history, but there's enough ingredients to have me curious if someone other than Spielberg can make a truly memorable Jurassic Park movie.

Jurassic World Rebirth releases in movie theaters worldwide on July 2.

12. Nobody 2

Despite good reviews ("Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes) Nobody was a movie that came out and then I honestly kind of forgot about as it arrived just before the world truly started to open back up in 2021. However, the Bob Odenkirk-led action movie is getting a second chance with a sequel, Nobody 2. For those that don't know, Odenkirk plays a family man whose past as a trained killer is brought back to the forefront; think an everyman John Wick with more comedy. I love Odenkirk, so I'm thrilled to watch him kick people's butts again and hopefully generate a bonafide box office hit.

11. Hurry up Tomorrow

Hurry Up Tomorrow, a dark psychological thriller, isn't your typical summer blockbuster, but when the movie is also a mini concert featuring performances from The Weeknd, people are probably going to show up. However, the reasons that I am interested in checking out Hurry Up Tomorrow are everyone else involved in the movie. Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, two of the more interesting young stars in Hollywood in my opinion, play opposite The Weeknd (credited with his real name, Abel Tesfaye). Then behind the camera is Trey Edward Shults, whose Waves and It Comes at Night were strong opening efforts by the young filmmaker.

10. The Fantastic Four: First Steps

I opted to only include one of Marvel's two summer blockbuster movies on this list. While I like a lot of the individuals in Thunderbolts and it could be fun, I've seen all of those characters before so it's nothing overly new for me.

Whereas The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the first time we're getting these iconic characters in the MCU, the movie is taking place in a different decade than any Marvel movie has and it appears to be taking place in one of the different universes across the MCU's multiverse. Long story short, it's offering something fresh, which feels like what's been missing from Marvel of late. Now the interesting question is if they can crack the code and make a Fantastic Four movie that everyone likes, a feat that's been elusive thus far.

9. 28 Years Later

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland return to the zombie franchise that they started for 28 Years Later. While the years don't line up perfectly (it's been 23 years since the original movie), the love for this franchise has persisted and fans are undoubtedly excited to see what has happened in the world of the film nearly three decades after the outbreak.

A new cast (headlined by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes) will also make for some intrigue as we find out what people have had to do to survive in apocalyptic Britain.

28 Years Later releases in movie theaters worldwide on June 20.

8. Karate Kid: Legends

The Karate Kid has truly become a generational franchise, combining those of us who grew up loving the original movies from the 1980s and early 1990s with those who discovered Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso from his time on Netflix's Cobra Kai. Add martial arts legend Jackie Chan, who also has ties to the franchise with 2010's The Karate Kid, and Karate Kid: Legends is going to have something for everyone who is fan of the martial arts franchise, bringing movie fans from Gen X to Gen Z together.

7. How to Train Your Dragon

Disney has been churning out live-action remakes of their animated classic for years now, but now DreamWorks is doing the same with How to Train Your Dragon. The story of young Viking Hiccup and the dragon he befriends, Toothless, is well known at this point, but early reactions from those that saw the full movie at CinemaCon have raised my expectations. And with DreamWorks already green lighting a sequel, they clearly have hope in it too. Let's see if DreamWorks can succeed where Disney has struggled in recent years.

6. M3GAN 2.0

I was honestly surprised by how much fun I had watching M3GAN back in January 2023. It was such a great blend of horror and comedy, with the pair of performers that play M3GAN nailing the role. With that success comes a move from the early days of the year to summer blockbuster territory, and a raised level of excitement from movie fans. The trailer for M3GAN 2.0 looks like it keeps the fun coming as M3GAN is brought back to protect Cady from a new android.

5. Superman

For so long there was only on Superman on the big screen, Christopher Reeve. But in the last 20 years, we've gotten three: Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Henry Cavill (Man of Steel and Justice League movies) and now David Corenswet in James Gunn's Superman. It's not an easy mantle to take on (as evidenced by the rotating actors), but as Gunn's DC film universe gets underway, Superman is undoubtedly going to be critical to its success. The potential impacts of all that are part of my interest in this movie. The other is that, after nearly two decades of Marvel domination, it would be fun to see if Superman can fly in and give us something new to root for in the superhero genre.

4. Ballerina

Technically speaking, the movie's official title is From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, which is a mouthful. But despite trying to shoe horn the established franchise into the title, there's a lot to get excited about with Ballerina. Ana de Armas has proven she has plenty of action chops, and we get to see the return of favorites like Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston as we see another side of the John Wick universe; oh, and Keanu Reeves returns to play John Wick, as this story takes place somewhere in the timeline of the first four John Wick movies. But I'm ready for a new action hero to take over Wick's mantle, and de Armas could do just that.

3. Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning

While no mission has proven to be impossible yet for Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt, they have been pretty consistently thrilling, thanks in large part to Cruise's willingness to do some outrageous stunts. Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning certainly looks to deliver more in that category, but for the last time. By all indications, after nearly 30 years, this is going to be the last Mission: Impossible movie starring Cruise. You can bet they're going to pull out all the stops for this one.

2. The Naked Gun

I'm usually not one for seemingly unnecessary reboots of iconic movies, so the idea of a new The Naked Gun movie at first glance would not have been a movie I'd put as my second most anticipated movie of the summer season.

However, the combination of Liam Neeson starring (who is funnier than some people may think), recent outrageous comedy gems Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping's Akiva Schaffer directing and Seth MacFarlane producing is enough to get me excited for this. It helps that the movie is honoring the original comedy franchise rather than trying to straight up remake it, as Neeson plays Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin, which leads to one of the best bits in the movie's trailer.

1. F1

Three years ago, Joseph Kosinski helped reinvigorate people's love for going to the movies with Top Gun: Maverick, which in addition to building on a beloved classic, was perfect for the big screen with his masterfully crafted aerial sequences that made you feel like you were flying inside the cockpit with Tom Cruise.

So I am 100% going to be in movie theaters to watch what the director does when he puts audiences in the driver's seat of an F1 race car in the new movie, F1. Sure, I can definitely see more than a couple of similarities from the F1 trailer and Top Gun: Maverick in terms of plot/character, but if the Brad Pitt movie can produce a similar, exhilarating experience, then we should count ourselves lucky.

The 2025 summer blockbuster season is going to kick off with Marvel’s Thunderbolts on May 2, but you can get an early start to the annual summer movie schedule with Captain America: Brave New World now available at home, available via digital on-demand platforms.

You can buy or rent Captain America: Brave New World on Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google Play and YouTube. A streaming premiere has not been announced at this time, but we know that whenever that time comes, Captain America: Brave New World will be streaming on Disney Plus.

Of course, with production underway on the next big Marvel team-up, Avengers: Doomsday, if you want to know the characters and some potential storylines coming into that movie, you’re probably best served catching up with Captain America: Brave New World.

Anthony Mackie leads his first Marvel movie, reprising his role as Sam Wilson who has officially taken on the shield of Captain America. He soon finds himself in the middle of an international incident and must find the root of a nefarious global plan. The movie also stars Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson and Giancarlo Esposito.

The first of three Marvel movies in the 2025 new movie slate (the other two are the previously mentioned Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Captain America: Brave New World is currently the second highest-grossing movie at the US box office this year, only trailing A Minecraft Movie (the MCU movie is No. 3 at the worldwide box office). But if you missed it in movie theaters, you can now watch Captain America: Brave New World at home.

The film didn’t receive the warmest reception from critics, but fans were a bit more accepting of the movie, as evidenced by its 48% “Rotten” score from critics but a 79% positive rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Just as an FYI, Tuesday, April 15, also marks the debut of a couple other notable 2025 movies on digital on-demand platforms — the Jason Statham action movie A Working Man and the horror movie The Woman in the Yard.

The shield has been passed, as for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Chris Evans is not leading a new Captain America movie. Instead, MCU veteran Anthony Mackie is the new Cap, leading Captain America: Brave New World, which is now playing.

Disney and Marvel have developed a knack for churning out hit series, and we look for that trend to continue with Daredevil: Born Again. When Netflix was running with the Daredevil baton, we were completely wowed as fans of the Marvel character. When we think of Super Bowl commercials we’re often thinking about funny ads promoting a product, but in recent years the breaks in between the game action have also become a place for movies to grab audiences’ attention of what’s coming soon to their local movie theater (or streamer). That will continue this year, as we are expecting a number of Super Bowl movie trailers to be shown on Sunday, February 9, for big upcoming movies like Jurassic World Rebirth, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and other 2025 new movies.

Deadline reported that Disney, Paramount and Universal Pictures have purchased 30-second spots for Super Bowl LIX. While there’s no official word on what movies from these studios are going to be previewed during the game, we can make some strong educated guesses.

Here’s a rundown of the most likely Super Bowl movie trailers you’re going to see:

Elio

The next movie from heralded animation studio Pixar, Elio is the story of a young boy who finds himself on an adventure of intergalactic proportions when he is abducted by a group of aliens. Zoe Saldana, Brad Garrett, Jameela Jamil and Shirley Henderson are among the voice cast for the movie. The first trailer for Elio premiered a couple of months ago, so it will be interesting to see if a Super Bowl spot will showcase any new footage ahead of the movie’s June 13 release date.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Premiering its first teaser trailer just days ahead of the big game, it seems like a pretty good bet that Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Step is going to be among the movie trailers shown on Super Bowl Sunday. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach star as the family of superheroes that are making their official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. I wouldn’t expect anything too different than what we got in the initial teaser, though Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer was surprisingly absent in the official tease, so it would be fun if she made her debut.

How to Train Your Dragon

Many probably didn’t think we needed a How to Train Your Dragon live action movie, but the first trailer released two months ago certainly got a lot of people excited for the movie. Set to be one of Universal’s big summer movies (releasing on June 13), it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some new footage to ratchet that excitement up some more.

Jurassic World Rebirth

Dinosaurs are likely also on the table for Super Bowl movie trailers, as Jurassic World Rebirth debuted its first trailer this past week and should feature a tease at some point during the game broadcast. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali star in this continuation of the long-running franchise that picks up a few years after Jurassic World Dominion and with a whole swath of new characters.

Lilo & Stitch

Lilo & Stitch could be another Disney title to get a quick preview during the game. Seeing as Stitch is such a trouble maker, it could be fun to see what kind of mayhem Stitch could cause related to the Super Bowl, which would be reminiscent of the original animated movie’s trailer that saw Stitch pop up in other classic Disney movies.

M3GAN 2.0

Having already shown up during the 2025 Grammy Awards, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the dancing android M3GAN make a stop at the Super Bowl as well. Whether or not it would be the same teaser that was shown during the Grammys or if we’d get a peek at some additional footage is unknown, but after being a breakout hit in 2023, M3GAN 2.0 wants to build off that success, and Super Bowl-sized platform is a good place to start.

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning

The last two Mission: Impossible movies — Fallout and Dead Reckoning — premiered trailers during the Super Bowls ahead of their release, so there’s every expectation that tradition will continue with Super Bowl LIX ahead of the eighth franchise entry, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, premiering on May 23. What better way to get people excited for what could be Cruise’s final mission than by previewing the next big stunt he’s going to pull off.

Novocaine

A lot of these movies are already well-established brands, but should Novocaine get a Super Bowl trailer it could really lift the movie's profile. The action comedy stars Jack Quaid as a bank employee who has a medical condition that causes him not to feel pain. That’s a bonus as he goes to great lengths to rescue the girl he’s been dating. With a March 14 release date, a trailer could have a lot of viewers add Novocaine to their must-see list.

Smurfs

The Smurfs may be small, but their latest movie seems poised to get a big debut with a teaser trailer during the Super Bowl. This adaptation of the classic cartoon series features Rihanna, Hannah Waddingham, Natasha Lyonne, Dan Levy, Kurt Russell, John Goodman, Nick Offerman, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll and more as part of the cast. With a teaser premiering just days ahead of the game, all signs point to the Smurfs popping up once again on Sunday.

Snow White

Rounding out the animated classics getting a live action remake in 2025, Snow White also seems poised to make an appearance during the Super Bowl. Rachel Zegler stars as the titular princess while Gal Gadot stars as the evil queen. With a March 21 release date, Disney is going to want to drum up some more attention for the remake of its first-ever animated movie.

Thunderbolts

According to the Deadline report, Disney is planning to spotlight two of its three 2025 Marvel movies during the Super Bowl. It would make a lot of sense for Captain America: Brave New World to be one of the two as a final push ahead of the movie’s February 14 release date, most audiences are probably pretty aware of that one. Instead this could be a chance to get them excited for what’s next, Thunderbolts, which stars Florence Pugh and other Marvel “villains” getting to be the stars of their own movie.

Watch Super Bowl LIX (and likely these movie trailers) on Sunday, February 9, on Fox starting at 6:30 pm ET/3:30 pm PT. All trailers should be available online ahead of or after their airing during the game.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but there is plenty coming to movie theaters in February 2025 that movie fans can get excited about. And we want to hear from you, our What to Watch readers, on the movies you are most looking forward to seeing in theaters this month.

The highest-profile movie hitting screens this month is without a doubt Captain America: Brave New World. This is the first movie for Anthony Mackie’s Captain America after he officially took over the mantle in the Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The movie has definitely been marketed as a political thriller (with plenty of superhero action, including a red hulk), which definitely feels like a throwback to one of the most well-regarded MCU movies to date, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Beyond the latest entry from the MCU, other notable 2025 new movies premiering in February include some alternative Valentine’s Day programming in Heart Eyes and Love Hurts; the US premiere of the third Paddington movie, Paddington in Peru; dark comedy/horror movie The Monkey; and some smaller movies hoping to find an audience, including Barry Keoghan’s Irish drama Bring Them Down, Paolo Sorrentino’s latest Parthenope, a Daisy Ridley action movie Cleaner, family-friendly titles like The Unbreakable Boy and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, survival thriller Last Breath and indie drama My Dead Friend Zoe.

But the movie that I am most excited to see is the surprise Best Picture nominee I’m Still Here. From Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles, I knew very little about this movie until lead actress Fernanda Torres earned a surprise Golden Globe win for Best Actress — Drama. She and the movie then followed that up with Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress and Best International Film. I’m Still Here centers on a mother who has to reinvent herself in 1971 Brazil when the military dictatorship enacts an act of violence against her family. It’s the only Best Picture nominee that I’m missing from this year’s field, and with its 96% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes I’m excited to finally get a chance to watch I’m Still Here.

Minus a John Krasinski cameo as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, the Fantastic Four is an iconic group of Marvel heroes that have been absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date (the reason had to do with the characters being licensed to 20th Century Fox). But now the iconic team is set to get a proper introduction to the MCU with The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Of course, there have been some notable attempts to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen. The Fantastic Four: First Steps director

Matt Shakman is the director of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While Shakman only has one feature movie directing credit on his resume (the 2014 movie Cut Bank), he does have Marvel experience, having directed all nine episodes of the Marvel Disney Plus series WandaVision. Now he’s getting to officially play in the MCU sandbox.

Shakman’s other directing credits have come in the world of TV, where he has directed episodes of shows like The Great, Succession, The Boys, Billions, Games of Thrones, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Welcome to Chippendales.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps behind the scenes

It has been a bit of a process getting the Fantastic Four their first official movie in the MCU. After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, and as a result the Fantastic Four and the other Marvel characters the latter studio had rights to, they started working on a new Fantastic Four movie. Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts was originally the director tapped for the movie, but he exited the project in 2022, with reports saying it was an amicable split and that Watts needed a break from the superhero genre. Shakman was then brought on to take over as director.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is on board as the producer of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, while Mitch Bell is listed as a co-producer and Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curits and Tim Lewis are executive producers.

Also worth noting is that Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino crafted the music for the movie. Giacchino is no stranger to the MCU, having worked on Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Thor: Love & Thunder.

We've seen Earth's mightiest heroes team up in the Avengers movies, now it's time for the "bad guys" to have a turn. Thunderbolts*, one of three Marvel Cinematic Universe movies among the slate of 2025 new movies, features a group of familiar Marvel characters that are getting to step into the spotlight this time around.

In the comics, the Thunderbolts were a team of reformed supervillains working together who made their first appearance in 1997. For the movie adaptation, the MCU is dipping into their bag of former villains or questionable allies, headlined by Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes.

Movie fans have seen most of the main characters set to appear in Thunderbolts*, with Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova headlining things. Pugh made her Marvel debut in Black Widow, but has also popped up in Hawkeye. Pugh is one of the bigger movie stars around right now, having also starred in Dune: Part Two, Oppenheimer and We Live in Time.

There are a couple of new additions to the MCU in Thunderbolts*, including Lewis Pullman (Lessons in Chemistry) as Robert Reynolds/Sentry and Geraldine Viswanathan (Drive-Away Dolls) in an unspecified role.

Critics have weighed in on Thunderbolts, with the Marvel movie already "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 88% positive score, which as of now makes it the highest rated Marvel movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fans have enjoyed Thunderbolts* as well, with the movie being "Verified Hot" on Rotten Tomatoes at 94%.

Thunderbolts* director

Jake Schreier is the director for Thunderbolts*. He has mostly worked in TV in recent years, including directing multiple episodes for the Emmy-winning Netflix series Beef, Lodge 49 and others. On the movie side, he has directed two features: Robot & Frank (2012) and Paper Towns (2015).

Deadpool & Wolverine earned the largest box office debut of an R-rated movie ever and the sixth best opening of any movie ever (not adjusted for inflation) with its release in movie theaters worldwide on July 26. Even so, many people may simply wait for the movie to be available to watch at home rather than make the trek to their local movie theater.

A post that was shared on X (formerly Twitter) Monday, July 29, from user Vids that go hard simply reads "F**k it, the full Deadpool & Wolverine movie," with a video embedded in the post. Could it actually be? Was this bound to be another infamous leak a la the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer or multiple episodes of Power Book II: Ghost online?

Yep, instead of the post actually containing the Deadpool & Wolverine movie (which without a doubt would have been forced down and then become the subject of massive litigation by The Walt Disney Company) it ends up being a 79 minute loop of Rick Asterly performing his iconic and endlessly memed song "Never Gonna Give You Up."

Even before the singer comes on most people could likely figure out that this was a prank, as the studio logos shown aren't accurate (Universal instead of Disney/Marvel) and a 79 minute video certainly would not be the entire movie. Still, it's a funny bit for overly anxious fans that would rather watch something on their phone than go see it on the big screen and something we'd have to think Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, would enjoy.

Not too long after his original post, copping to his prank, Vids that go hard shared another post, this time saying "Go watch Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters though, it's literally the best Marvel movie I’ve seen in a while."

Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the most anticipated movies of the summer, as it brought back Reynolds' now iconic, foul-mouthed superhero and paired with him another Marvel legend, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. This was the first time that both characters officially appeared in the MCU, but Deadpool kept his trademark meta jokes and R-rating to the delight of fans and critics (the movie is "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes).

So no, you can't watch Deadpool & Wolverine online right now, and not for some time we'd be willing to wager (there's no info on its planned digital on-demand or streaming release on Disney Plus yet). If you're eager to see it, take Vids that go hard's advice and head to the movie theaters.

As a millennial who grew up watching cartoons on Saturday mornings with a bowl of cereal, the original X-Men series was a favorite. I loved watching Professor X and his band of mutants like Storm and Wolverine attempt to make this fictional world a more cohesive place to live. Prior to the debut of X-Men '97, I was incredibly excited by the idea of the show and even made mention of it in What to Watch's must-see TV spring shows.

So it's with much joy that I can declare the cartoon as the best "new" series I've seen this year, even with only the first two episodes premiering on Disney Plus. X-Men '97 is also getting love from critics. As of March 21, the series has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, literally a perfect score. The impressive feat means the series in its opening week is the best-reviewed project of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, besting Avengers: Endgame. 

In a world that recently seems to be suffering from superhero fatigue,  X-Men '97's blooming success is a bit of an anomaly. 

Recent releases Madame Web and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have Rotten Tomatoes scores of 12% and 34%, respectively, while The Marvels and Blue Beetle fare better with scores of 62% and 78%, but ones that are below the best of the MCU and DC movies. But looking beyond just the scores, it's their box-office performances that lend credibility to the argument that superhero fatigue is indeed a thing. 

The Marvels finished its theatrical run as the lowest-grossing film in the MCU, and Blue Beetle only earned an estimated $100 million at the box office. Put in perspective, The Dark Knight finished its American box-office run with $536 million. 

With all that being said, X-Men ‘97 has a lot going for it. For starters, there are millions of people who are like me and grew up watching the original cartoon. So when the moment came along to see their childhood represented, they had to take it. And unlike some other remakes/continuations of superhero projects I could name, Marvel did a remarkable job at recapturing the essence of the original. 

From the moment the show kicks off with the legendary theme song from the '90s, it hooks the inner kid in viewers. Then as episodes 1 and 2 play out, you're reminded of the richness and entertainment factor of the characters. Sure, over 25 years later some of the costumes and hairdos of the mutants are a little different (Gambit's hair and the maternity look of "Jean" stick out the most), but the heroes are still familiar. And without giving away any spoilers, I'll just say the growth of the mutants in their story arcs is incredible. 

It's also worth pointing out that the series fits in the perfect pocket of being known while not overly done in recent years. Iron Man's release in 2008 kicked off almost 16 years' worth of Avengers content. That's multiple movies starring Iron Man, Thor Captain America and others. While I admittedly enjoyed nearly all these movies, for some, you can reach a point where you know certain characters a little too well, and aren't given an opportunity to miss them. 

Then when Iron Man died and Steve Roger's Captain America gave up the shield, new Avengers were introduced in the MCU. The problem with that is those who aren't comics buffs were forced to learn about new heroes, and for some, that seemingly presented overload. 

Marvel was releasing two to three new movies a year at one point, and then introducing ancillary heroes sprouting off their initial bunch of onscreen Avengers. That can become a lot for moviegoers who enjoy MCU films but aren't as familiar with the comics. Not to mention the expansion of more stories and characters on Disney Plus to keep track of. 

To quote another famous movie, "There's no place like home," and X'Men '97 feels like home. The original series is where many people like me cut their teeth with Marvel. After spending nearly two decades in the realm of Avengers, who've been forced to ignore the world of X-Men thanks to issues of rights and ownership (though that is now over), it feels as if I'm going back to where it all started. Of course, Bryan Singer had a theatrical run with X-Men over at Fox and there were subsequent cartoons after the original X-Men series, but none of them resonated with me as strongly due to various issues.  

X'Men '97 honestly just strikes all the right chords, and dare I say, so far, I actually like the new show better. It's appropriately taken the baton and is successfully running the course, accounting for what present times now rationalize as suitable for younger audiences. It's doing such a good job that I can only hope for great things when MCU releases its first X-Men-related franchise this July with Deadpool & Wolverine. 

Now has X-Men '97 cured superhero fatigue in general? I can't say that. However, the nostalgia of the series has managed to lift it past fatigue and more to a stage of excitement and invigoration.

Madame Web made her first appearance in a Marvel comic book in 1980, but the Madame Web movie marks her big screen debut. It won't just be the introduction of the clairvoyant heroine though, as a trio of characters who are key Marvel figures in their own right also appear in the movie.

With a script written by Claire Parker and S.J. Clarkson from a story by Kerem Sanga, here is the official synopsis for Madame Web from Sony Pictures:

"'Meanwhile in another universe…' In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. Dakota Johnson stars Cassandra Webb, aka Madame Web. Johnson first really popped on screens in The Social Network, but has since gone on to star in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, A Bigger Splash, Suspiria, The Peanut Butter Falcon, The Lost Daughter, Cha Cha Real Smooth and Persuasion. This is Johnson's first foray into the superhero genre.

The three young women destined for bigger things in the movie include Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But You, Euphoria) as Julia Carpenter, Celeste O'Connor (A Good Person, Ghostbusters: Afterlife) as Mattie Franklin and Isabela Merced (Rosaline, Father of the Bride) as Anya Corazon.

Who is S.J. Clarkson?

In addition to co-writing the script for Madame Web, S.J. Clarkson is the director of the movie. This actually marks Clarkson's feature directing debut, but she is by no means a newcomer to the industry.

Clarkson's resume includes directing episodes of some of the biggest TV shows in recent memory. Her list of credits includes Succession, Anatomy of a Scandal, Collateral, Vinyl and Orange is the New Black. She also has superhero experience, directing multiple episodes of the Marvel TV series Jessica Jones and The Defenders.

We don’t know the full cast list yet, but we do know that Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki and Owen Wilson returns as Mobius M. Mobius. 

Sophia Di Martino is also reprising her role as Sylvie. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is back as  Ravonna Renslayer, Eugene Cordero returns as Casey and Wunmi Mosaku once again plays Hunter B-15.  

During the D23 Expo, Everything Everywhere All at Once star Ke Huy Quan was announced as the newest cast member. Based on panel observations, it looks like he’ll play a member of the Time Variance Authority. Also new to the cast is Rafael Casal.

It’s highly likely that Jonathan Majors will also return in season 2, only this time as Kang the Conqueror. His involvement in the series might be in a limited capacity as Kang is also the villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. According to TV Insider, the footage shown during the D23 Expo panel featured a glimpse of Kang's influence on Loki's new shattered multiverse, one that includes a gold statue in Kang's likeness on display at the TVA.

Not much is known about the plot for Loki season 2, but Hiddleston and Wilson hinted at what’s to come during the Loki presentation at D23 Expo in September 2022. 

"Season 2 picks up where season 1 left off," Hiddleston told the room. "Loki is back in the TVA and Mobius doesn’t seem to know who he is."

"It’s a little bit like that Talking Heads song," Wilson agreed. "And in season 2 we’re going to answer, 'How did I get here?'"

Series writer Eric Martin, who wrote all of the season 1 episodes, is returning to write the episodes in the second season, while Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (who directed Moon Knight) are behind the camera for several Loki season 2 episodes.

Anthony Mackie has been in the MCU since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but now his Sam Wilson is the official Captain America, leading the way for this new movie. Mackie is a Hollywood veteran, having starred in the likes of Million Dollar Baby, The Hurt Locker, The Adjustment Bureau and Twisted Metal.

While Mackie is taking over the Captain America mantle, Harrison Ford is taking on a legacy MCU role, but under different circumstances. Ford was cast as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross following the passing of William Hurt, who had played the character since The Incredible Hulk. Ford is a screen legend who does not appear to be slowing down despite his age. Just last year he reprised his classic character Indiana Jones for the final time with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and had a hit TV show with 1923.

Thunderbolt Ross isn't the only connection to The Incredible Hulk appearing in Brave New World. Tim Blake Nelson is reprising his role of Dr. Samuel Sterns from the early Marvel movie, as is Liv Tyler, who played Betty Ross, Thunderbolt Ross' daughter and love interest to Bruce Banner (does that mean a Mark Ruffalo cameo is possible?).

Other confirmed cast members for Captain America: Brave New World are The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Carl Lumbly and Danny Ramirez, reprising their roles of Isaiah Bradley and Joaquin Torress, respectively. Also making their return to the MCU. New to Marvel are Shira Haas (Unorthodox), who is playing a character named Sabra, Giancarlo Esposito as a mysterious new villain and Xosha Roquemore (The Sex Lives of College Girls).

TV fans won't be heading to Seattle to see what's going on with Station 19 or Grey's Anatomy, as both series wrapped up their seasons on May 18. Airing on Thursday, May 25, at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The Marvel movie starring Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh introduces the new hero of Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

Shang-Chi was released in movie theaters on September 3, 2021, and was widely praised, earning a "Certified Fresh" score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, including What to Watch's own Shang-Chi review giving it three and a half stars, while audiences gave it a 98% positive rating. The movie made more than $430 million worldwide, which considering it came out when the pandemic had people a bit weary to head to the movie theater, is nothing to shrug off.

The movie has been available to stream on Disney Plus since November 2021, but its airing on ABC gives those not subscribed to the streaming service their first chance to watch the movie at no extra cost.

If you can't watch Shang-Chi on May 25 though, don't worry, it's not the only time the movie is going to be airing on TV in the near future. FX is going to broadcast the movie on Sunday, May 28, Saturday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 21, all at 7 pm ET/PT, and again on Thursday, June 22, at 5 pm ET/PT. Freeform is also going to show the movie on Saturday, June 10, at 8:10 pm ET/PT and Sunday, June 11, at 5 pm ET/PT.

To watch Shang-Chi on ABC, if you have a TV antenna, a traditional cable TV subscription or a live TV streaming service that carries the network (FuboTV, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV) you can tune in. In some great news for Marvel fans, Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury in the Disney Plus original series Secret Invasion. 

It’s hard to believe that the last time viewers spotted Fury was in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far from Home. If you’ll recall, he was seen in the film’s post-credits in some kind of Skrulls research facility. He wasn’t being held captive by the shapeshifting alien species, but rather appeared to be doing what he does best — leading. If you need a refresher, we’ve got you covered. Fans have to watch the new series to see how Fury’s time with the Skrulls ultimately put him on a new covert mission to preserve the world order in the Marvel universe. But one thing is for certain: it’s good to have the old guard of the MCU make a return, as Nick Fury has been around since 2008’s Iron Man.

When is the Secret Invasion release date? 

Secret Invasion premiered on Wednesday, June 21, on Disney Plus with the first episode. The remaining episodes of the season will be released on the subsequent Wednesdays.

Secret Invasion trailer and promo clips

On June 13, Marvel released a first-look clip of the series featuring Maria and Nick in the midst of a conversation. For Marvel fans, it should feel good to see the pair back together on screen. 

Another official trailer debuted on May 21. If you thought the multiverse was layered and exciting, wait until you get a Marvel world where clones (Skrulls) are attempting to take over. 

On May 10, Marvel released a featurette with the cast that gives fans a little more about what they can look forward to with the series. We've certainly missed Nick Fury. 

On April 2, Marvel released the second trailer for the series. A standout quote from the new clip is one that many MCU fans have been asking. "Where are the Avengers?" 

One of the standout lines from the trailer is Nick Fury stating, "I'm the last person standing between them and what they really want." That naturally begs the question, what does this faction of Skrulls want? Check out the trailer.  

Who is in the Secret Invasion cast? 

Again, fronting the Secret Invasion series is none other than Samuel L. Jackson playing Nick Fury. There is a good reason that Jackson has been affectionately nicknamed "the hardest working man in Hollywood." The A-list actor has been featured in some of the world's most popular movies over the past several decades. He’s been in things ranging from 1988’s Coming to America to 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones. He’s played Shaft in the Shaft films, Darius Kincaid in both The Hitman’s Bodyguard and the Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and of course, Nick Fury in the Avenger films. Most recently, he’s portrayed Ptolemy Grey in The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey. 

In some exciting news for Game of Thrones fans, Emilia Clarke is making her debut in the MCU. While her character is still being kept under lock and key, based on the footage in the trailer, it looks like she is playing a fierce force not to be taken lightly. Although, this time around she’ll presumably be without dragons. 

Other new additions to the MCU for Secret Invasion include Olivia Colman (The Crown, Heartstoppers) and Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami..., Peaky Blinders).

Rounding out the principal cast is Ben Mendolsohn (Captain Marvel, Bloodline), who has been the main Skrull featured in the MCU to date, Talos.

Also making a return to the MCU but not marketed as main cast members are Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) as Maria Hill, Don Cheadle (Black Monday) as Rhodey and Martin Freeman (Breeders) as Everett K. Ross. 

What is Secret Invasion about? 

Marvel describes the Secret Invasion plot as the following: 

"Secret Invasion stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos — characters who first met in Captain Marvel. They are joined by Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman. The crossover event series showcases a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years."

How to watch Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion airs exclusively on Disney Plus. Those hoping to watch the series will want to make sure they have a subscription to the service. Currently, Disney Plus is offered as both a standalone service and as a part of a packaged deal via the Disney Bundle, which includes Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus.  

NOTE: this post contains spoilers for the ending of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Kang officially arrived in the MCU with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and not only does Marvel's new big bad play a central figure in the story of the movie but his presence reverberates in both of the Quantumania's post-credit scenes, teasing just a little bit of what's in store for the future of MCU with Phase 5 and Phase 6.

Before we dive into all that though, let's quickly recap what happens in the Quantumania ending. With the help of the Quantum Realm's rebels and Hank Pym's (Michael Douglas) super-intelligent ants, Scott (Paul Rudd) is able to thwart Kang's (Jonathan Majors) planned escape. However, as Hank, Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), Cassie (Kathryn Newton) and Hope (Evangeline Lilly) make their way back to Earth through a portal Janet was able to create, Kang pops back up and fights with Scott to trying one last time to escape.

Scott is overpowered by the raging Kang, but he has an ace up his sleeve. He has a handful of Pym particles and uses them on Kang's multidimensional power source, destroying it and closing the portal. Knowing there's only a few seconds left to escape, Kang rushes for the portal but Hope comes back and stops him. Together, Scott and Hope push Kang into the exploding power source, killing him.

Thankfully, Cassie, with her new knowledge of the Quantum Realm, is able to use her Quantum satellite to reopen the portal and bring Scott and Hope home. We then see Scott once again reflecting on his strange life, but also worry about the warning that Kang gave earlier in the movie — that if he doesn't get out, something even worse is going to happen. 

Scott decides to believe that everything is going to be OK, but as fans are treated to the two post-credit scenes, we get a bit more info on what Kang was referring to.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania mid-credit scene — Kangs everywhere you look

Remember the mid-credit scene in the first Avengers movie, where fans were introduced to Thanos for the first time? Well, we pretty much get the equivalent of that with the Quantumania mid-credit scene.

In it we meet three variants of Kang, talking about how the variant they exiled into the Quantum Realm is now dead. While two taunt each other about wanting to be the ones to kill him, the third gets them to refocus. He says that our heroes are coming closer to understanding the multiverse and therefore potentially wrecking all that they oversee. To prepare for this, they are gathering a group of Kangs to discuss what to do. Or rather, all the Kangs.

We then see an arena filled with slightly different variations of Kang, amped up and ready for whatever plan they are cooking up.

For comic fans, this appears to be the MCUs version of what has been known as the Council of Kangs, where the character's different variants work together to achieve their goals. The mass of Kangs is also likely a direct allusion to the next Avenger movie, which is titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

But does that mean we're not going to be seeing Kang or any of his variants again until the next Avengers movie?

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania post-credit scene — the God of Mischief is back

The second post-credit scene in Quantumania pretty quickly answers our previous question, as it looks like we'll be seeing another variant of Kang in the near future, when the God of Mischief himself returns to Disney Plus.

The scene sees a Kang variant that calls himself Victor Timely in what looks to be either Victorian England or late 19th-century America. He is speaking of the ability to bend and control time to a crowded audience, which just so happens to include Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Mobius (Owen Wilson). Mobius does not seem to believe that Victor Timely is a variant of the threatening figure that Loki has told him about, but Loki assures him, having met a variant previously, that this man is truly terrifying.

This is the first real tease we have for Loki season 2, which is set to premiere on Disney Plus sometime in 2023. While it's just a short clip, it gives us a lot to look forward to as the team of Loki and Mobius are darting through time again with the apparent goal of trying to stop these Kang variants.

A new era of Marvel begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the first true blockbuster of 2023. 

While it is the first movie of the MCU's Phase 5, it is the third Paul Rudd-led Ant-Man movie, so many movie fans are excited to watch the continuing story of Scott Lang and how it sets up the superhero universe moving forward. But how can you watch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?

Here is everything you need to see the movie as soon as possible.

How to watch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in movie theaters

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania officially releases worldwide on February 17 (though early screenings on February 16 are being held in most places) and it'll do so exclusively in movie theaters. So, if you can't wait to see the latest Marvel adventure play out, a trip to your local cineplex is in order.

To find Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantmania showtimes and tickets, you can visit the websites of your local movie theaters or use a resource like Fandango, which provides you with info on all showings in your area. In both cases, you can buy Quantumania tickets directly through these sites.

If the price of movie tickets these days gives you pause, then something worth looking into are movie theater subscription and membership programs. Offered by numerous theater chains in the US and UK, these programs provide subscribers with a monthly allotment of movies or free/discounted tickets to the latest movies, as well as deals on concessions and other theater-going perks.

Is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania streaming?

No, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is not available for streaming right now. The movie is getting an exclusive run in movie theaters, which will probably be at least 30-45 days.

However, though technically not confirmed, we can be just about certain that when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania comes to streaming it'll do so on Disney Plus. Disney's subscription service  is the streaming home for just about every Marvel movie, including the two previous Ant-Man movies. There's no timeline for when Quantuamania may arrive on Disney Plus. Looking at recent comparisons, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrived on Disney Plus on February 1, just shy of three months after its release.

There's also no info yet on when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may be available to rent or purchase via video on-demand, but we'll keep this section up to date with that info when it becomes available. 

What else to know about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

In the third Ant-Man movie, Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope's parents Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.

Peyton Reed returns to direct the superhero franchise, with Kathryn Newton joining the cast as Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors entering the picture as Kang the Conqueror, the new big bad of the MCU.

Reviews seem split right down the middle, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania receiving a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes; WTW's Quantumania review called it a "rocky start" to Phase 5. Though critics do seem to all be in agreement in praising the performance of Jonathan Majors.

Peyton Reed kickstarts Marvel's Phase 5 with an overly CG'ed sputter in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. A movie that takes place almost exclusively in the Quantum Realm means an immense reliance on digital "Cosmic Marvel" backgrounds, characters and landscapes. Where Guardians of the Galaxy or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness excelled under these circumstances, Quantumania blurs together in a clash of post-production illustrations that scream, "we filmed this all on green screens!" 

Fun MCU elements do exist between a father-daughter superhero bond and zany Quantum beings. Still, Reed generally does better marketing Marvel's future than delivering a thrilling, standalone adventure.

Quantumania is a family affair. Cassie (Kathryn Newton), Scott Lang's (Paul Rudd) daughter, builds a subatomic gadget that can transmit signals to the Quantum Realm, with encouragement from Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly). But when something goes wrong, they're all sucked into the Multiverse's basement. Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) thought she'd escaped, but now she's back in her decades-long prison. The problem is she didn't tell her family everything about the Quantum Realm — including the ruthless destroyer she accidentally helped empower then betrayed, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

Quantumania accomplishes the objective of hyping our excitement for future MCU properties. Kathryn Newton makes a splash as the yet-unnamed superhero version of Cassie Lang, who's at her best when proving her abilities to an overprotective yet proud Scott. Jonathan Majors is the resoundingly correct choice for Kang, laying dramatic imposition thick while displaying range that will come in handy down the road. 

Reed and co-writer Jeff Loveness are tasked with using Ant-Man to introduce another Young Avenger along with the MCU's next multi-phase supervillain, which they do, but at a detriment to being a solo Ant-Man film. Especially crammed alongside Scott, Hank, Hope, Janet, an entire local Quantum rebellion, and — you guessed it — ants.

There needs to be a stronger balance between the humor that follows Ant-Man and Quantumania's tenser narrative implications. Quintessential Ant-Man moments are hit-and-miss, like Scott's sitcom-y inner monologue scored to the Welcome Back, Kotter theme song ("Welcome Back" by John Sebastian), or the abysmally failed experiment that is Corey Stoll's M.O.D.O.K (Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing). Bless Stoll's commitment, but M.O.D.O.K's unmasked appearance is unquestionably the worst Marvel eyesore to date, torpedoing any scene where he appears. 

Reed struggles to channel his inner James Gunn when embracing the Quantum Realm's "weirdness," outside an ooze man who loves talking about "holes" or Hank discussing ants in his kooky grandpa voice. What should shine a light on levity frequently lands flat between Kang's doomsday threats.

Also frustrating is how, as an Ant Family movie, the core collective appears incomplete. Hope Van Dyne doesn't feel characterized enough beyond fulfilling a mother archetype for Cassie. Hank provides comedic relief and life-saving escapes, while Janet's withheld information always comes out when it's too late. 

William Jackson Harper as the over-it telepath Quaz or Katy M. O'Brian as resistance leader Jentorra make more of an impression, but Quantumania falls victim to the MCU problem of stuffing too many characters into a single feature. Scott's ho-hum relationship with Hope pales compared to Scott's sweeter fatherly growth with Cassie, yet we're stuck splitting time because of the film's scope.

Visual effects workloads for Quantumania are astounding but can also produce numbing results. Interstellar cosmos swirls, amorphous amoeba shapes and furious weather patterns combine to distinguish this Quantum Realm that always seems to be tearing apart yet seeps together like randomized sci-fi gruel. Colonies of settlers resembling geodes, broccoli or pink blobs attempt this melting-pot Star Wars population without the authenticity of Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy or The Mandalorian's civilizations. A cinematographer like Bill Pope is lost on the nondescript copy-and-paste tactics of Quantumania as Kang's soldiers fight rebel alliances photocopied across the screen. No matter how comic-book correct, there's a quantity over quality effect to the abundance of VFX.

As an origin for new heroes and mighty villains, Quantumania establishes what the MCU requires. That said, there needs to be more connectivity as an Ant-Man sequel. Quantumania can't pass on Cosmic Marvel tapestries alone, especially when stretches of advanced green screen technology remind us actors are asked to perform against blank spaces and pixelated co-stars for long periods. Everything reads as James Gunn Lite, beholden to multi-film plot creation that supersedes a Quantum Realm uprising in the now. While brimming with imagination thanks to environmental Quantum designs, Quantumania doesn't escape feeling like a layover between major franchise destinations.

Kang. Is. Here!

Since Loki season 1, the threat of a multiversal war with the evil variants of He Who Remains has haunted the MCU, patiently waiting to be paid off. That time has arrived, as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the first movie of MCU Phase 5, unleashes the big bad himself: Kang the Conqueror. 

As revealed by Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Quantumania is the first step toward an overarching storyline that features Kang as the franchise's latest major villain, and will pay off in the next highly anticipated Avengers installments; Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

But who is Kang the Conqueror? What is his deal? Where and when did he first emerge? And how is Jonathan Majors this jacked?

Here's a breakdown of everything you need to know about Kang the Conqueror.

Who is Kang the Conqueror?

Kang the Conqueror, aka Nathaniel Richards, was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four #19 in 1963, making his triumphant debut as a time displaced descendent of Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic) and a criminal from the year 3000. However for his first two appearances, he wasn't called Kang. He called himself Rama-Tut and used his future technology to make himself a Pharaoh and conquer ancient Egypt. Fortunately, he is defeated by the Fantastic Four.

Shortly thereafter, he tries to return to his time, but ends up getting lost further into the future to the 40th century, to find an apocalyptic world with powerful technology, that allows him to conquer what's left of the dying planet, rebranding himself as "Kang the Conqueror." Unsatisfied ruling over a dying world, he decides to use the technology to travel to modern times to try and conquer 20th century Earth, which forces him to come to blows with Earth's mightiest heroes, The Avengers (in Avengers #8 from 1964).

Kang would go on to become one of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four's biggest foes, doing battle with them throughout the decades, even almost succeeding in his conquest of Earth in the storyline, "The Kang Dynasty."

What are Kang the Conqueror's powers?

There is nothing extraordinary about Kang the Conqueror other than his mind. A master physicist with a proclivity for time travel and all of the knowledge of history readily available in his mind who is also pretty good at building stuff. Any super strength he possesses is solely powered by his enhanced armor (created himself), but he does benefit from increased resistance to radiation due to his time in the future.

It's worth noting that the aforementioned suit is also capable of hologram tech, forcefields and keeping him alive for a month if lost in uninhabitable lands. And, at one point, he possessed a will-sucking ray gun. 

Who plays Kang the Conqueror?

Actor Jonathan Majors is taking on the role of Kang. As mentioned above, audiences got their first glimpse of Majors as a variant of Kang in the Loki season 1 finale. Majors once again is stepping into the role of a different, more sinister variant of the character than the one we saw in the Disney Plus series, with a look that skews closer to the famous green and purple suit in the comics.

Majors exploded into the scene with acclaimed lead performances in The Last Black Man in San Francisco and the lead role in HBO's Lovecraft Country. He has proven himself to be a tremendously charismatic and versatile actor, starring in films like Devotion, Da 5 Bloods, The Harder They Fall and 2023's Creed III, alongside fellow MCU baddie Michael B. Jordan, and Magazine Dreams.

Is Kang worse than Thanos?

It depends on which version of Kang we're talking about. While Loki's He Who Remains may have seemed like an impish douchebag, we're getting our second iteration of The Conqueror on screen, and he does not look as friendly or accommodating. With He Who Remains teasing his variants are much worse, there's a sense that the other versions we meet may make the first guy look like a bunny rabbit. 

Furthermore, with Loki and Sylvie causing the Multiverse to essentially explode and expand, who knows how many versions of Kang are out there and how many are as nefarious about conquering planets as their comic book counterpart. Welcome to The Multiverse Saga.

In contrast, there was only one of Thanos (at least pre-Multiverse Saga). 

In the comics there were several versions of Kang: Immortus, Kang Prime, Iron Lad, Victor Timely, Mr. Gryphon, The Scarlet Centurion. The list goes on. While Kang is actually a human, with his terrifying future tech even a single one of him could be a massive threat to the Avengers, let alone several. 

Additionally, Thanos didn't have the same knowledge of the future Kang has, which would give Kang the bigger advantage over a villain like The Mad Titan. But combine that with the genius level intellect of his descendant Reed Richards and the presence of technology that no one else in the universe in the present would have, and you have one of the Avengers' greatest threats looming upon the MCU.

Does Kang have any weaknesses?

In a way, Kang has a soft spot for one individual in particular: Ravonna Renslayer. Played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Loki season 1, Renslayer has always been a major part of Kang's story, being his one true love.

While on the show, she's the head of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), in the comics she was a princess whom Kang fell in love with. In an attempt to impress her, he kidnaps the Avengers as a show of power (talk about compensating for something). However he eventually frees them when her life is threatened, so they can help him save her. However she's mortally injured before they can and he has to put her into stasis until he can find a way to heal her and save her from the brink of death. An interesting adaptation of this was animated into the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes series back in 2011.

How will Quantumania's introduction of Kang lead into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty?

It's hard to say what versions of Kang the MCU has in store for the fans. But his introduction in Quantumania will absolutely not be the last we see of the character. The best assumption many have is that the genie will be officially out of the bottle, so to speak, and Kang will be looking to bring our heroes to their knees.

After coming in late in the Infinity Saga to help save the day, Brie Larson's Captain Marvel is going to be a bigger part of the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe right from the get go with her new movie, The Marvels. Though it won't just be her movie this time around.

MCU Phase 5 begins in earnest in 2023, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out ahead of The Marvels. Brie Larson returns to her superhero role as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. The Oscar-winning actress has appeared in multiple Marvel projects, including her own Captain Marvel movie, Avengers: Endgame and post-credit scenes in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel. Other well known roles for Larson include 21 Jump Street, Short Term 12, Room and Just Mercy. She also starred in Fast X in 2023.

Teaming up with Larson in The Marvels are Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan.

Monica Rambeau first appeared in Captain Marvel as a child, the daughter of Carol's best friend Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). The grown-up Monica Rambeau was first portrayed by Parris in WandaVision. Outside of the MCU, Parris has starred in Candyman, The Photograph, If Beale Street Could Talk and Mad Men.

Kamala Khan, meanwhile, was the central character in Ms. Marvel, which served as her introduction to the MCU. The role is actually the first credit for Vellani.

The other main cast members for The Marvels include Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), reprising his role as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton (The Handmaid's Tale) as the villain Dar-Benn. Also appearing in the movie are Park Seo-Jun (Parasite), Gary Lewis (The Bay), Zenobia Shroff (Ms. Marvel), Mohan Kapur (Ms. Marvel) and Saagar Shaikh (Ms. Marvel).

The Marvels director

Captain Marvel was the first MCU movie to have a female director (Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck co-directed the movie). The Marvels is going to keep it rolling with a female director, as Nia DaCosta is taking over behind the camera.

DaCosta is best known for directing the 2021 refresh of the horror movie Candyman, with her other movie directing credit coming with the 2018 indie movie Little Woods, which starred MCU-alum Tessa Thompson and Lily James.

After being well established in two previous outings and a key role in Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to kick off MCU Phase 5. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania release date

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is officially scheduled for release globally on February 17, 2023.

Like most of Marvel Studios’ post-Infinity Saga release dates, Quantumania was impacted by the pandemic, and has since shifted around the MCU release schedule multiple times. It was originally set for 2022 before finally landing on this early 2023 date.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania cast

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are of course returning as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp. While Scott is enjoying his heroic success, Lilly has stated at Comic-Con that Quantumania dives more into her vulnerabilities as a character, after having been a beacon of strength in all of her previous appearances.

Kathryn Newton (Freaky, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu) takes over the role of Cassie Lang, who was previously played by Abby Ryder Fortson in the previous two films and Emma Fuhrman in Avengers: Endgame. It’s rumored that Cassie dons the Stature suit in this film.

Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer return as Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Pfeiffer in particular is a welcome presence, given she did not receive much screen time in the second film or Avengers: Endgame (apart from a single shot during the Stark funeral scene in that movie). Getting answers regarding how she received the Quantum Energy abilities we see her using on Ghost at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp are in order.

It was also confirmed Randall Park is returning as Jimmy Woo. Woo was introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp, but also reprised his role during WandaVision. Perhaps he and Scott finally get that dinner.

Bill Murray is also in the movie. His presence has been confirmed in the trailers and it seems as if he’s an old acquaintance of Janet’s from within the Quantum Realm. How they know each other however is currently still unknown.

And finally, Jonathan Majors is playing the next major villain for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kang the Conqueror. We know Majors portrayed Kang’s variant, He Who Remains, in Loki, but as that version of the character explained, his variants are supposed to be much worse. How much worse? Let’s just put it this way: the next Avengers film, set to debut in May 2025 is called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. We think Scott Lang is going to have a pretty hard time dealing with this guy. 

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reviews — what the critics are saying

What's the word from critics on the latest Marvel movie? What to Watch's own Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania review called the beginning of the MCU's Phase 5 a rocky start, but praised the performances of Marvel newcomers Jonathan Majors and Kathryn Newton.

The general consensus, per Rotten Tomatoes, has the movie teetering on the border of "Fresh" and "Rotten." As of 3 pm ET on February 14, Quantumania has an official score of 60%.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director

Peyton Reed is returning to direct Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, having previously directed the first two Ant-Man movies. Originally known as the director of Bring it On, Reed has recently found success in genre with both the Ant-Man and the Wasp saga and several episodes of The Mandalorian (including the massively well received season 2 finale).

Since the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has been rare for any director to stay with a particular solo-franchise after two films. Jon Favreau gave up directorial responsibilities after Iron Man 2. Scott Derrickson left Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Thor has seen a revolving door of directors (though Taika Waititi has directed the last two). Reed is, surprisingly, only the second director to complete a trilogy for the MCU (the first being Jon Watts of the Spider-Man/Tom Holland trilogy). 

How will Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania impact the MCU?

Monumentally. As previously stated, this movie is going to introduce Kang the Conqueror. Everything that happens with Kang is going to lead up to 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and likely Avengers: Secret Wars; the cappers to the entire Multiverse Saga. But it all has to start with the events of Quantumania first, which is why Feige has explicitly chosen this film to be the official kick off of Phase 5.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever cast

Many of the original Black Panther cast are back for the sequel. This includes the previously mentioned Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira. Other familiar faces set to appear are Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda and Florence Kasumba as Ayo.

One cast member from the first Black Panther movie not returning is Daniel Kaluuya, as the actor confirmed in an interview for his movie Nope that scheduling conflicts did not allow him to return for the superhero franchise.

Meanwhile, there are some exciting new members of the Black Panther cast, particularly Tenoch Huerta as the movie's antagonist, Namor, and Michaela Cole as Aneka. Huerta is probably best known for his role in Narcos: Mexico, while Cole is an award-winning actor and creator for the series I May Destroy You.

Dominique Thorne is also joining the cast as Riri Williams. The new character has a ig future in the MCU, as she will become Iron Heart and is getting her own Disney Plus series. Her future is teased in the trailer.

Coogler’s previous directing credits includes Fruitvale Station and Creed, but he has also been active as a producer. How will Black Panther: Wakanda Forever connect to the MCU?

Fully into Phase 4 of the MCU now, the pieces of how all of the new movies and Disney Plus original series will overlap and lead to the bigger goal of this new era of Marvel. While we don't know a lot about the plot, at Comic-Con, Marvel super producer Kevin Feiger said that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is going to be the final movie of Phase 4, which has been all about introducing new characters that are going to play an important role moving forward. This includes the new Black Panther and, as mentioned above, Riri William's Iron Heart.

After eight episodes of green transformations, uncanny breaks in the fourth wall and interesting cameos from other heroes in the Marvel Universe, the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season 1 finale aired, leaving viewers with a few question marks. 

In the last few minutes of the season in particular, a number of revelations were made about some big names in the MCU that can have some serious implications. Plus, it seems writers are making She-Hulk’s (Tatiana Maslany) love life less of a "fluke" going forward, giving her a possible relationship with another hero. So what did we learn from the She-Hulk season 1 finale?

Who is the main villain in She-Hulk?

It turns out that the big bad of She-Hulk is not Titania (Jameela Jamil) after all. While the two have battled it out all season, Jennifer’s number one villain is actually the creepy client from her law firm, Todd Phelps (Jon Bass). He’s the leader behind Intelligencia, the agency responsible for cyber-bullying She-Hulk.  

We aren’t sure if Todd has a future in the MCU given he was arrested, theoretically has no superpowers and isn’t very intimidating. However, since he’s a billionaire, perhaps he may wind up funding some sinister team of more viable villains later down the line. 

Who did She-Hulk fall in love with? 

Both Jennifer and She-Hulk haven’t exactly been lucky in love for most of the season. Regardless of what form she’s in, the men she’s come across have been weird, superficial or completely using her as a part of a hidden agenda. Then came along episode 8 of She-Hulk and the attorney got to meet everyone’s favorite martial arts expert from Hell’s Kitchen, Matt Murdock aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox). The chemistry between these two has been like peanut butter and jelly, making it seem like Jennifer found a match. 

Their connection may be something viewers can really invest their energy in given Matt Murdock shows back up in the season 1 finale. In the final moments of the series, he faces tough questions from Jennifer’s family about his life and intentions with her. He reveals he’s in town to spend time with the strong woman for a week. While we won’t bring out wedding invitations just yet, it’s nice to see She-Hulk and Daredevil partner up romantically. Perhaps, she’ll make an appearance in the Daredevil reboot, Daredevil: Born Again.  

Will there be a Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo? 

To be perfectly blunt, we don’t know for sure. Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced that a standalone Hulk film is in the works. However, in the She-Hulk season 1 finale, it certainly seems as if the MCU is gearing up for one. 

When Jennifer literally breaks the fourth wall and goes to see Kevin — which turns out to be an AI system and not Marvel President Kevin Fiege — a revealing dialogue takes place. As she argues why Hulk shouldn’t return in a final sequence to save the day, the AI system states, "Bruce is supposed to return to explain what he was doing all season." Jennifer replies, "No, no, no we don’t need to hear any of that."

The conversation gets interesting when the computerized Kevin counters, "But we were going to introduce…" Before it can finish the statement, Jennifer interrupts by saying "Ugh, save it for the movie." 

The last sentence seems to tease that a Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo is forthcoming, but in Marvel fashion, things are being kept under wraps. Plus, the fact that Hulk does make an appearance in the finale with his son Skaar from Sakaar left fans with lots of questions that can only be answered properly with a film.

By the way, there are several projects in MCU’s Phase 6 that have been assigned tentative released dates but are untitled. Let’s hope one of the projects is about the original green hero. 

Will Wong show up in another Marvel series? 

In one of Marvel’s famous end-credit scenes, Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) is seen in a containment cell. Then out of nowhere, Wong (Benedict Wong) pops up via a magic portal ready to help the prisoner escape. As Wong apologizes for being late, Emil asks the stunning question, "You got stuck doing another show didn’t you?" 

Wong appears to coyly acknowledge that this was the case. That begs the question, what MCU series will the Sorcerer Supreme show up in next? If we had to guess, we’d venture to say he’ll next appear in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Given both Agatha and Wong deal in the mystic arts, it makes sense. 

All episodes of She-Hulk season 1 are now available to stream on Disney Plus. Be sure to catch the next Marvel release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever debuting on November 11.  

While Disney has slowed down its Marvel TV shows, one of the big new entries in its calendar for 2025 is Ironheart.

Introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ironheart is a genius inventor who follows on from Tony Stark's legacy by building a powerful suit of armor.

As part of the latest phase of Marvel stories, Ironheart has got a lot riding on it, and here's what you need to know if you're excited.

Ironheart release date?

You'll be able to watch Ironheart from Tuesday, June 24, when the first episode premieres.

It's not clear yet whether all episodes of Ironheart will land at once, or whether they'll roll out on a weekly basis. We do know that there will be 6 episodes though.

The show will air exclusively on Disney Plus, so you'll need to sign up for the streamer in order to watch it.

What is the Ironheart plot?

The story of Ironheart will follow on from the character's actions in Wakanda Forever.

In it, Ironheart (real name Riri Williams) returns to Chicago after her jaunt in Wakanda, and she meets fellow superhero The Hood (real name Parker Robbins) who uses dark magic and runs with a gang and activist group Young Lords.

Disney's plot description doesn't say whether Robbins will become friend or foe, but perhaps that's what the series will explore.

Who is in the Ironheart cast?

The titular Ironheart is being played by Dominique Thorne (Judas and the Black Messiah, If Beale Street Could Talk). She already played the role of Williams in Wakanda Forever.

Joining Thorne is Anthony Ramos (In The Heights, Hamilton) playing Robbins, as well as Jim Rash (Community, The Way Way Back) as the Dean of MIT, a role he previously played in Captain America: Civil War.

Some other actors have been confirmed, though we don't know much about their roles: there's Alden Ehrenreich (Solo, Hail, Caesar!) playing someone called Joe McGillicuddy, Shea Couleé (RuPaul's Drag Race) as Slug, Lyric Ross (This is Us) as Williams' best friend Natalie and Manny Montana (Good Girls) as Cousin John.

Some more names have been cast in unspecified roles including Shakira Barrera, Zoe Terakes, Manny Montana, Sonia Denis, Harper Anthony, Regan Aliyah and Rashida Olayiwola.

Of course, some MCU cameos and cross-overs within the show are possible. But if there are, there's no reason to believe that Marvel would announce them ahead of time.

Is there an Ironheart trailer?

A trailer for Ironheart hasn't been released yet, as production hasn't even wrapped. 

At Disney's D23 conference in September 2022, a clip was shown to attendees, though it's not currently available to watch online.

The video shows Williams getting told off by a professor, to which she replies that she wants to make something "iconic" (and in her defense, Iron Man certainly is iconic).

Attendees also got to see Robbins as he provides some advice for Williams, before giving a classically villainous hood twirl to suggest he's got some nefarious scheme in the works.

Finally, the video ended with Williams turning on the Ironheart suit, ready for a showdown.

Marvel is shuffling things around in their movie slate that is going to impact the rollout of the MCU Phase 5 and MCU Phase 6. Specifically, Blade, Deadpool 3, Fantastic Four and Avengers: Secret Wars have all been given new release dates.

The news comes following original Blade director Bassam Tariq exiting the project. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that Marvel is temporarily shutting down the Blade production, which features Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hunter. That, unsurprisingly, is having a ripple effect on other MCU movies, which The Hollywood Reporter also shared.

First, Blade has been moved from its original November 3, 2023, release date almost a full year to September 6, 2024. That is pushing Deadpool 3, which is pairing Ryan Reynolds’ merc with a mouth with Hugh Jackman returning to his iconic role as Wolverine, from that September 6 date to November 8, 2024. With Deadpool 3 now occupying its previous date, Fantastic Four is moving to February 14, 2025.

While not directly impacted by any of the other release date shifts, Marvel has also announced that it is moving Avengers: Secret Wars from its previously announced November 7, 2025, release date to May 1, 2026. That means that the second of two new Avengers movies is going to come out exactly one year after its predecessor, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which maintains its May 2, 2025, release date.

With the MCU being this interconnected lineup of movies and TV shows, one release date can have an impact on everything, so it’s not a surprise to see many things shift as a result of Blade having some pre-production issues.

In addition to Ali, Blade is set to star Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) and Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad).

Deadpool 3, which is the unofficial title, serves as a reunion between Reynolds and director Shawn Levy, who have recently worked together on Free Guy and The Adam Project.

We have very little information about Fantastic Four at this time. Matt Shankman recently joined the movie as its director but there has been no word on casting, though John Kransinski did play Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and has long been the dream casting for many fans.

The MCU Phase 4 concludes with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11. The first MCU Phase 5 movie is then going to be Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, 2023.

The MCU is evolving. The end of the Infinity Saga gave rise to the next saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: the Multiverse Saga. Kicking off with Phase 4, the Multiverse Saga continues with MCU Phase 5 and MCU Phase 6 across multiple movies and TV shows.

Phase 4 kicked off in 2021, featuring WandaVision, Black Widow, Loki, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Ms. Marvel, Thor: Love and Thunder and more, wrapping up with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in November 2022, 

MCU Phase 5 begins in 2023 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with its gamut of titles ending in in the summer of 2024.

From there, where will MCU Phase 6 head? The outline was shared at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, here's a breakdown of the films revealed so far for the final phase of The Multiverse Saga:

Fantastic Four

Release date: February 14, 2025

What you need to know: Marvel's "First Family" is getting their official MCU debut with Fantastic Four. Given the recent appearance of an 838-Universe Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we have an official confirmation that a variant of Richards exists in the main MCU. Whether or not that version is played by John Krasinski is another story entirely (though some hope not). Rumors and speculation are always running rampant.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Release date: May 2, 2025

What you need to know: Kevin Feige announced that The Multiverse Saga will culminate with the release of two Avengers movies: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. We know Kang (Jonathan Majors) is being introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and we were warned of his arrival in Loki. Seems like he's going to be enough to gather the forces of Earth's Mightiest Heroes to stop him. Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the next installment in the Avengers series.

Avengers: Secret Wars

Release date: May 1, 2026

What you need to know: Literally nothing is known about Avengers: Secret Wars apart from the fact that it will be released eight months after The Kang Dynasty, leading to speculation that something about The Kang Dynasty ends in a cliffhanger leading into Secret Wars. 

Given that the 2015 Hickman storyline (not to be confused with the 1984 storyline) had to do with incursions, Doctor Doom getting godlike powers from The Beyonder and a new universe called Battleworld, it's not far fetched to assume Secret Wars deals with Doom and incursions, especially given the release of Fantastic Four one year prior and the concepts of incursions being introduced in Multiverse of Madness after being made possible by Loki and Sylvie in Loki. We're through the looking glass now.

As of now, these are the only three releases teased for Phase 6 of the MCU. More are likely to be revealed in the future, including possible release dates for Shang-Chi 2, Amor Wars and others. That being said, anyone looking for the new direction of the MCU need look no further. The mic has been dropped and silenced naysayers by revealing the ambitious three0year gameplan.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, which saw an official close to The Infinity Saga, fans have been on pins and needles to know what's next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Things got started with the MCU's Phase 4, which not only features several films but introduced multi-episode, long form television series debuting on Disney Plus.

Over the last three years (postponed in part because of the pandemic) Phase 4 has said goodbye to beloved characters and hello to many more. With shows like WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If, Hawkeye, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. On the film side, the world said an official goodbye to Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow, but  also said hello to Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). Audiences also met Shang-Chi and The Eternals in their respective films, while familiar faces like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Thor also got new movies. 

While exits and entrances have been the big focus, at San Diego Comic Con 2022 it was revealed what Phase 4, which wraps up with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was building up to: the next great saga in the MCU — the Multiverse Saga. Phase 4 is the first leg of this new chapter, with Phase 5 set to really kick the overarching story into high gear with a bevy of new movies and TV shows.

Here is a breakdown of everything coming our way with MCU Phase 5:

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Release date: February 17, 2023

What you need to know: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicks off Phase 5. After saving the world in the events of Avengers: Endgame, Scott Lang has immersed himself in the glory of being a hero and writing a book. However, at home, things are shakey as Cassie, now a full grown teen, has begun getting into trouble with the law. Scott's attempts to smooth things over with his daughter are soon interrupted, however, when an experiment goes wrong and Scott, Cassie and the Pym/Van Dyne clan are sucked into the Quantum Realm. There, Scott faces his most menacing foe yet: Kang the Conqueror.

Prepare for surprises with this one. It's going to be a big piece of The Multiverse Saga storyline. Jonathan Majors makes his Marvel Studios film debut as Kang (he debuted as a variant of Kang called "He Who Remains" in Loki season 1). At San Diego Comic Con, director Peyton Reed confirmed MODOK will appear in the film, as will Bill Murray in an undisclosed role. 

Secret Invasion

Release date: Spring 2023
Cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Colbie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, Don Cheadle, Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir

What you need to know: Secret Invasion is being billed as a paranoid conspiracy thriller in the tradition of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The series takes off from the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, where it was revealed that Nick Fury (Jackson) was off planet and Skrull buddy Talos (Mendelsohn) was subbing for him. Not much else is known about the plot or who Coleman, Clarke and Ben-Adir are playing. But it's expected to be a grounded thriller.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Release date: May 5, 2023
Cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Maria Bakalova

What you need to know: There was a time where Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was going to be directed by another filmmaker, but luckily Marvel Studios brought back James Gunn back to helm the final chapter in his space opera series. We know the plot revolves around Quill (Pratt) searching for the time displaced Gamora (Saldana), as well as diving into the backstory of Rocket Raccoon (Cooper) and introducing the MCU to Adam Warlock (Poulter) and Cosmo the Space Dog (Bakalova). We also know this is the final film featuring this iteration of the Guardians. What will happen to them and why? We'll just have to wait until May 2023 to find out.

Echo

Release date: Summer 2023

What you need to know: Fresh off her explosive debut in Hawkeye, Alaqua Cox reprises her role as deaf antihero Maya Lopez, aka Echo. The last we saw the character, she had just taken her revenge against Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), aka the Kingpin, for the murder of her father. Though little is known about the new series, her show could lead into the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. More on that later.

Loki season 2

Release date: Summer 2023
Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, Sophia Di Martino

What you need to know: The God of Mischief is returning for more chaos. C'mon. What did you expect? This time, Loki is being shepherded by Eric Martin as showrunner and Moon Knight directoring duo of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Production is currently underway in London and the show is expected to release around the same time as The Marvels.

The Marvels

Release date: July 28, 2023
Cast: Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, Samuel L. Jackson

What you need to know: While little is known about the actual plot going into the sequel to Captain Marvel, we do know Ms. Marvel breakout star Iman Vellani and WandaVision co-star Teyonah Parris are joining Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. The end of Ms. Marvel teased a possible plot point for the upcoming release, with Vellani's Kamala Khan seemingly switching places with Carol Danvers randomly. We'll see where things go from there.

Ironheart

Release date: Fall 2023

Showrunner: Chinaka Hodge
What you need to know: Not much is known just yet about what will be set up in the Ironheart series. The character of Riri Williams, played by Dominique Thorne, makes her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; there's a small glimpse of her in the trailer. We know the character has genius level intellect and built her own suit of armor. In the comics she catches the attention of Tony Stark, but with him gone from the MCU for now, the origins of this character may deviate a bit from what's been established in the comics.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos

Release date: Winter 2023/2024
Cast: Katheryn Hahn
Showrunner: Jac Schaeffer
What you need to know: She killed Sparky. That's it. Just kidding. The devilishly delightful Kathryn Hahn will be getting her own spinoff of WandaVision. Presumably they'll have to answer the questions regarding what Agatha's been up to in Westview following her defeat at the hands of Wanda, as well as more about her origins as a centuries-old witch. Maybe even the return of another famous witch? Might not be out of the cards.

Daredevil: Born Again

Release date: Spring 2024
Cast: Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio
Showrunner: Matt Corman & Chris Ord
What you need to know: Marvel has ordered a massive 18-episodes for Daredevil: Born Again. While not much else is known about the series, we know for sure, per Kevin Feige, that Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio are reprising their respective roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Kingpin following appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye. Additionally, Daredevil makes a confirmed appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Captain America: New World Order

Release date: May 3, 2024
Cast: Anthony Mackie
Director: Julius Onah
What you need to know: Sam Wilson is Captain America. Period. He rightfully inherited the title from Captain America, though struggled to earn it in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Kevin Feige revealed the title and date for the upcoming release, but previously it was announced that it would be written by Falcon and the Winter Soldier writers Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson and directed by Luce director, Julius Onah.

Thunderbolts

Release date: July 26, 2024

What you need to know: Feige announced Thunderbolts as the final film of Phase 5. Little is known about who will be starring in it, but we've seen Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontain (aka Val) assembling a team. Possible candidates could include Daniel Bruhl's Zemo, Florence Pugh's Yelena Bolova and Wyatt Russell's John Walker (aka US Agent). 

Blade

Release date: September 6, 2024
Cast: Mahershala Ali, Delroy Lindo, Aaron Pierre

What you need to know: In 2019, when Kevin Feige brought out two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali on the Hall H stage, fans have been wondering when they were going to see Ali's spin on The Daywalker. Three years later, they finally got their answer. Though many may not have seen him, everyone who saw Eternals heard him, as Ali lent his voice to a post-credit scene in that film involving Kit Harrington's Dane Whitman attempting to pick up the cursed Ebony Blade sword, before being stopped by Blade. It's unconfirmed if Harrington is reprising his role in Blade.

All in all that's two full years of movies to cover. But wait, there's more MCU goodness coming your way. Feige also announced three films for the MCU Phase 6.

There’s a lot in the latest Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer to get fans excited (and we’ll discuss those in a bit more detail below), but right atop the list has to be that with the arrival of the new trailer fans can now purchase Black Panther: Wakanda Forever tickets.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is one of the most anticipated new movies of 2022, as the superhero movie is the sequel to the cultural phenomenon that was 2018’s Black Panther, which made more than $1.3 billion worldwide and to date is the only superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. The sequel hopes to be another big draw at the theaters and possibly repeat as the top-grossing movie of its year, though it will have to contend with Top Gun: Maverick to do so.

However, almost all of the other original cast (Letita Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, Florence Kasumba) and writer/director Ryan Coogler are all back, along with some exciting new faces, including Tenoch Huerta, Michaela Cole and Dominique Thorne. There’s a lot to break down in the trailer, which Coogler did with Entertainment Weekly, but some of the major highlights include the best look yet at Tenoch Huerta’s villain, Namor; Dominique Thorne’s new hero, Ironheart; Angela Bassett being the queen we already knew she is; and our best idea yet of who is the next Black Panther. It certainly looks like the superhero is being taken over by one of the female characters (most signs pointing to Letita Wright’s Shuri).

Can you watch Spider-Man: No Way Home on Disney Plus?

Surprisingly the answer is no. Not yet. And not for a long time. 

Due to the partnership/co-production between Disney and Sony, Spider-Man: No Way Home has headed to the Starz streaming platform for an exclusive period before moving onto Netflix (date still tbc). It will be on Netflix for around 18 months before finally arriving on Disney Plus.

Is Spider-Man: No Way Home available on Netflix?

Unusually for a Marvel movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home will be available on Netflix and it's going there before it heads to Disney Plus. The contractual shenanigans mean that Netflix subscribers will be able to watch the latest Spidey movie but it won't be for a little while (we're still waiting for a confirmed date)... unless, of course, you're a Netflix India subscriber. In which case, lucky you! — Spider-Man: No Way Home is streaming on Netflix India.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to buy as a 4K/Blu-ray/DVD. In addition to the movie, the 4K/Blu-ray/DVD features more than 80 minutes of behind-the-scenes content, including additional materials with all three Spider-Mans (Holland, Maguire and Garfield), hidden easter eggs and bloopers.

Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer

The Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a little bigger with the arrival of Ms. Marvel, a brand new hero and Disney Plus/Marvel original series.

Disney Plus has been the exclusive home for a number of new and continuing MCU stories like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye and Moon Knight. Disney Plus is also now the home of The Defenders original series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher), which originally aired on Netflix.

As Ms. Marvel joins the ranks, actress Iman Vellani recently teased her character's exciting future in the MCU. Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, here is everything you need to know about the TV show.

When is the next Ms. Marvel episode?

Ms. Marvel premiered with one episode on Disney Plus on Wednesday, June 8. The remaining five episodes of the season become available to stream on each of the following Wednesdays. The season finale premieres on Wednesday, July 13.

What is the Ms. Marvel plot?

Ms. Marvel serves as an origin story for Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, who has been a popular comic book character but is making her first appearance in the MCU with this TV series. Here is the official plot of Ms. Marvel from Disney Plus:

"Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega-fan with an oversized imagination — particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?"

As Disney Plus continued to build the anticipation for Ms. Marvel's premiere, they released a teaser titled "Courage" on May 29. In the clip, viewers get to see a little more of her power on display. 

Disney Plus released the first Ms. Marvel trailer on March 15. In it fans got their first peek at Kamala Khan as she dreams of being a superhero and ultimately gets the chance to make that dream come true. Give the Ms. Marvel trailer a watch directly below. 

A sizzle reel for Ms. Marvel, which gave a brief preview of the character from the producers and creators and some early footage was released in December 2020.

Who is in the Ms. Marvel cast?

Headlining Ms. Marvel is Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel herself. Vellani is a newcomer, with Ms. Marvel being her first credit, per IMDb. This is just the first step for Vellani’s Ms. Marvel, as the actress and character are set to jump from the Disney Plus series to the big screen in The Marvels, the sequel to Captain Marvel.

Vellani is the first Muslim superhero in the MCU, a milestone for the franchise. In a Variety feature, she explained even with that fact she doesn’t feel any extra pressure. "I don’t really have to go out of my way and talk about being a Muslim and being Pakistani — it all comes out in the show. People seeing a person like me involved in a project as big as this is, I think, inspiring enough."

The rest of the Ms. Marvel cast includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha. Deadline also reported recently that Anjali Bhimani would be part of the cast in a recurring role.

Absent from Disney’s cast lists is Fawad Khan, though the actor has confirmed in interviews that he will be part of the series.

Finally, with Ms. Marvel helping to lead into The Marvels, fans will probably be itching to see whether Brie Larson's Catpain Marvel of Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau makes an appearance in the show. Disney has not given any hints, however, that either would appear.

Who is Ms. Marvel and what are her powers?

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is one of the newer Marvel superheroes, making her first comic book appearance in 2014. In the comics, Kamala Khan is a Pakistani American growing up in Jersey City who looks up to superheroes like Captain Marvel, which are key characteristics that the Ms. Marvel TV show appears to follow.

Kamala Khan becomes Ms. Marvel in the comics when a mysterious mist awakens latent powers within her, which include the ability to alter her size and shape. So far, it seems that in the MCU she got her powers from bracelets sent to her from her mysterious grandmother. By and large, her powers in the MCU differ from the comics in that they have more to do with her manipulating the energy around her. She's able to create shields, shoot blasts and more.  

How to watch Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel plays exclusively on Disney Plus, so a Disney Plus subscription is required to watch it. Disney Plus is available as a standalone service (with monthly or yearly commitments) or there is the Disney Bundle option, which combines Disney Plus with ESPN Plus and Hulu for a single monthly fee. 

In a really cool bit of news, Variety has reported that Ms. Marvel is getting a theatrical release in Pakistan in June, as Disney Plus is not currently available in the country. Per Variety, the episodes will be packaged together in pairs, with episode 1 and 2 releasing on June 16, episodes 3 and 4 on June 30 and episodes 5 and 6 on July 14.

Though Marvel continues to add new superheroes to its MCU roster, fans will once again be treated to a new movie featuring one of the original Avengers — Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. This will be the fourth solo Marvel movie for Thor.

Thor: Love and Thunder is part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which officially got underway in 2021. Thor: Love and Thunder release date

Thor: Love and Thunder has a current release date of July 8, putting it right in the heart of the summer blockbuster season. Advance tickets for the movie are now on sale.

While Thor: Love and Thunder was always going to be one of summer 2022’s big movies, July 8 was not always the date it was lined up for.

In October 2021, Disney announced date changes for multiple Marvel movies, including moving Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from its initially planned March 2022 release to May 6, which was the original date for Thor: Love and Thunder. This caused a chain reaction that put Thor: Love and Thunder on its new July 8 date, pushing Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to November 11, 2022, which then pushed the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, to 2023.

Thor: Love and Thunder reviews

Reviews are coming in for Thor: Love and Thunder. 

The movie is "packed with love and unleashes its mighty thunder with all the colorful personality we've come to appreciate from Taika Waititi's films," according to What to Watch's Thor: Love and Thunder review. The review also praises the entire ensemble of new and returning actors, but particularly singles out Natalie Portman's Jane Foster.

Review aggregator sites are showing pretty positive reviews for the Marvel movie. Rotten Tomatoes scores the movie as 69% "Fresh," while it sits in the "Good" tier on Metacritic with a score of 62 (both scores as of July 7).

Thor: Love and Thunder has earned a PG-13 rating in the US for "intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, language, some suggestive material and partial nudity. In the UK, the movie has been given a 15 rating.

Thor: Love and Thunder cast

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder will feature an exciting mix of new and fan favorite characters, but first and foremost it will see Chris Hemsworth returning to the role of Thor. Hemsworth has played the God of Thunder since 2011, appearing in seven MCU movies, including his three solo movies and all four Avengers movies (it’s eight if you want to count his post-credits appearance in Doctor Strange, though that was a scene from Thor: Ragnarok). 

Hemsworth hasn’t just been confined to the MCU, however. During his time as Thor, Hemsworth has also started in movies like Snow White and the Huntsman, Rush and Extraction, to name a few. He has become one of the most popular actors today, with a knack for balancing action and comedy roles; a skill he definitely has shown as Thor.

While other original Avengers actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson have seen their characters’ arcs come to a definitive end, Hemsworth keeps rolling along as Thor. Though there is a chance his title as God of Thunder may be passed to someone else in Thor: Love and Thunder — Natalie Portman.

Portman played scientist and Thor love interest Jane Foster in Thor and Thor: The Dark World, though did not appear in Thor: Ragnarok (it was explained that the pair had broken up); her character did pop up as a cameo in Avengers: Endgame. Portman is back for Thor: Love and Thunder, and it was confirmed early in the process that Jane would become the superpowered Mighty Thor in this new movie (check out some concept art revealing what could be Natalie Portman’s Thor: Love and Thunder costume below). Outside of the MCU, Portman is known mostly for her Oscar-winning role in Black Swan and her role as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequels, but she has a career that spans back to when she was a kid, starring in the movie Leon: The Professional. 

Hemsworth and Portman are leading the way, but Thor: Love and Thunder is stuffed with other fan-favorite Marvel characters. From previous Thor movies, Tessa Thompson is confirmed to reprise her role as Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander is returning as Lady Sif and Taika Waititi is back as Korg. Joining things, at least for a bit, will also be members of the Guardians of the Galaxy (Thor left with them at the end of Avengers: Endgame), specifically Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Sean Gunn’s Kraglin, Dave Bautista's Drax and Pom Klementieff's Mantis.

Adding a bit of fun, Sam Neil, Luke Hemsworth and Matt Damon are returning as the actors playing Odin, Thor and Loki, respectively, while Melissa McCarthy is expected to join as an actress playing Thor: Ragnarok villain Hela.

While McCarthy will be a fun new cameo, there are two big new additions to the cast that will have a bit more bearing on the plot. Christian Bale, who already has superhero experience playing Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, is slated as the Thor: Love and Thunder villain, Gorr the God Butcher. Another Oscar-winning actor is entering the MCU after appearing in a DC movie (Man of Steel), as Russell Crowe is slated to play Zeus.

Thor: Love and Thunder director

In addition to starring as Korg, Taika Waititi is back as the writer (with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson) and director of Thor: Love and Thunder after receiving near universal praise for Thor: Ragnarok.

The New Zealand actor/director has become a big player in Hollywood. Starting out his career with smaller movies like Eagle vs Shark and Boy, Waititi began to get acclaim with the comedies What We Do in the Shadows (the movie that inspired the hit TV show) and The Hunt for the Wilderpeople. He followed Thor: Ragnarok up with Jojo Rabbit (for which he won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay).

In addition to Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi has the movie Next Goal Wins possibly coming out as a new 2022 movie and the HBO Max original TV series Our Flag Means Death.

How will Thor: Love and Thunder impact the MCU?

Phase 4 of the MCU has been building out the idea of the multiverse. We’ve seen it in Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, while the new Doctor Strange movie literally has multiverse in its title. However, with as little knowledge as we have on Thor: Love and Thunder’s actual plot, it is hard to say if the multiverse will be a factor in its story.

What we can make educated guesses on is how the story will impact the characters. With Jane Foster returning and taking on the title of Mighty Thor, its possible that Chris Hemsworth could either take a step back in the MCU and Natalie Portman lead things in future movies, or they could become a package deal.

We’ll also probably get a sense of where things might be going with the Guardians of the Galaxy, as their next movie is expected in 2023.

Maybe another Marvel character will pop up and surprise us. After all, can we really have a Thor movie without Loki?

With Thor: Love and Thunder crashing into theaters this week, everyone’s favorite Avenger/Asgardian of the galaxy is returning for another classic Thor adventure of self-discovery and action. But with every new adventure comes even greater, more treacherous dangers and this installment is no exception. Making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with Thor: Love and Thunder is none other than the creepy and insanely powerful villain, Gorr the God Butcher.

"Who?" you might say. Well we’re very glad you asked. Because What to Watch is here to breakdown all the creepy, spine-tingling details about the new villain and his origins, so you can see for yourself why the self-proclaimed "Strongest Avenger" might not be strong enough this time around.

Who is Gorr the God Butcher?

Though first introduced in Jason Aaron’s Thor: God of Thunder #2, Gorr’s origins weren’t known for four more issues in Thor: God of Thunder #6, where it was revealed he was born into a society of aliens on a planet with no name. His species was overzealous about worshipping their gods, thinking they’d provide for them, but all Gorr saw on his planet was endless sun, barely any food or water and death. His father died of a sun sickness, his mother was eaten alive by beasts and once he survived to an adult age despite fighting through harsh conditions, his pregnant wife was killed when his cave collapsed. One by one his children all died as well. 

On the day of his son Agar’s death, he renounced all gods and was shunned and exiled by his people, left to die in the desert heat. Praying for death, Gorr’s suffering was interrupted by two fallen gods (one in black and one in gold), who slammed into the ground before him, battling one another. When Gorr went to investigate, a black substance from the god in black — later identified as symbiote god Knull (yup, the same symbiotes that create Venom and Carnage) in the comics — possessed Gorr. Attracted to his anger and resentment to the gods, he was presented a weapon, later identified to be All-Black the Necrosword, which empowered Gorr. He then used it to kill the god in gold. From there, Gorr went on a centuries long mission to kill all gods that remained.

Who plays Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder?

Gorr is played by Academy Award-winner Christian Bale. Though he is no stranger to superhero movies, he's one of the best Batman actors of all time, this is Bale’s first time playing any Marvel character and first foray in the MCU. However, that wasn’t something he understood fully himself. 

When asked in a recent interview with Total Film (via Games Radar) about his experience being cast in a Marvel Studios movie and joining the MCU, Bale was quoted as saying, "I'd read that and people would go, 'Oh, look at this! He's entered the MCU!' And I'd go, 'I've done what? I haven't entered s**t, thank you very much.' I'm like, 'The MCU?' I had to ask what that was." 

That being said, an actor of Bale’s clout and commitment brings a sense of gravitas to a role like this. In his career, Bale has been nominated for four Oscars, winning for his first nomination as Dicky Ecklund in David O. Russell’s The Fighter. His turn as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy was met with universal acclaim and helped the series to gross over $2.4 billion. Audiences should expect a very complex and potentially sympathetic character from his interpretation of Gorr, given his ability to infuse pathos and dimension into most characters he brings to life.

How is the MCU Gorr the God Butcher different from the comics?

Though much of Thor: Love and Thunder has been kept in secret, we can safely assume there’s a lot about the comic book version of Gorr and his story that won’t be making it into the film. For the most part, Gorr’s look in the comics is less humanoid than his cinematic counterpart. For another, in the comics he murders Volstagg, one of the Warriors Three. In the MCU, Volstagg is already dead, having been murdered by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok.

Additionally, the battle between Thor and Gorr in the comics spans over thousands of years. Thor first encounters Gorr during the Medieval Viking ages, then battles him again in the present and eventually thousands of years into the future. In the storyline, it takes the efforts of past, present and future Thor to defeat Gorr. It’s unlikely the MCU would delve back into time-travel elements again after relying so heavily on them during Avengers: Endgame.

Additionally, Gorr’s connections to the symbiote god, Knull, as well as the symbiote powers bestowed on him will likely be changed, given the rights to anything pertaining to symbiotes lie with Sony Pictures and their Venom franchise. He will likely wield a form of The Necrosword, however, given what we’ve seen in trailers and released action figures. But it’s unlikely it will be rooted in symbiote origins.

Whatever the case, if there is any truth to the buzz coming from test screenings of the movie, Waititi and Bale’s interpretation of Gorr is said to be "…the best villain that Marvel’s ever” (according to Waititi’s interview with AP News). Early buzz has definitely been enthusiastic about Bale’s performance and it seems that any flaws the character may have had in the comics are rectified by Waititi’s interpretations. 

Whatever the case, audiences will soon find out when Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters Friday, July 8. Thor: Love and Thunder tickets are now on sale.

Thor's return blares Guns N' Roses hits to set the mood, feels the sincerest tingles of love and brings the so-called thunder often to satiate many an evildoer's appetite for destruction.

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, Son of Odin, currently trying to fill the hole left by his lost family. He's summoned back to New Asgard when Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) unleashes shadow demons on the slumbering townsfolk, but is dumbfounded to find Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) has a new warrior ally. Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) now wields Mjolnir as The Mighty Thor after hearing the hammer's call post-Stage IV cancer diagnosis. Thor must navigate his unresolved feelings for Jane and Gorr's wake of slain gods if he's to save the New Asgardian children Gorr has kidnapped. But will jealousy or awkwardness ruin his and Jane's unexpected reunion?

Waititi and co-story creator Jennifer Kaytin Robinson are pulling from Greecian epics, sappy romantic comedies, kaleidoscope-colored interstellar psychedelics and other artistic influences in this ambitious tale. Although, it's less about Thor himself than Thor and Jane Foster. 

Thor: Love and Thunder is a tragedy at its core that's still brimming with vitality, excitement and Waititi's good-vibes goofiness in what could be the best representation of Thor to this point. Moments of loss and defeat are still imbued with the counterbalance of introspection and hope, which is what Waititi seems to do best. He's a bit like Guillermo del Toro, finding brightness in the macabre and smiles amidst our darkest battles.

The return of Natalie Portman and new additions like Christian Bale as Gorr and Russell Crowe as Zeus means Thor: Love and Thunder is overflowing with splendid performances. Hemsworth's evolution into Waititi's manifestation of a heavy metal van mural who's a himbo barrel of laughs but deathly serious when protecting those he loves has reached its fullest form — that's expected. Portman's conquering of Marvel's Mighty Thor arc as Jane Foster is mighty indeed, as she meets Hemsworth's meaty man-god eye to eye in fantastical combat and through meaningful conversations. 

Same for Bale's pale representation of Gorr as his Necrosword infects a grieving man driven by divine rage or Crowe's flamboyant Italian-whatever representation of Zeus, who's a shiny-golden hoot whenever he's on screen. The likes of Tessa Thompson and Waititi as Korg are as strong in presence as we remember, with newcomers only adding to the potency of the ensemble.

Where recent Marvel entries can feel inundated by an overload of CGI landscapes and creatures, Thor: Love And Thunder is as bright and opulent as driving across Mario Kart's Rainbow Road. Everything from Barry Baz Idoine's swooping cinematography to Michael Giacchino's bombastic score accentuates the epic space rocker operatics of Waititi's ambitions. Whether that's as Thor teams with Star Lord's (Chris Pratt) Guardians of the Galaxy against an army of owl-punk maniacs while "Welcome To The Jungle" plays or when Gorr subdues Thor, Jane and Valkyrie using inky tentacles under the greyscale nightshades of his black-and-white shadow realm. 

There's so much thought put into details beyond typical Marvel mechanics — smash and blast action beats and narratives that think too far ahead — as Waititi fulfills studio obligations but on his signature terms. He'll give us Asgardian combat, but in a wholesome, still electric way as Thor imparts Stormbreaker's powers into weapons held by a horde of children who then charge behind Thor into a skirmish against Gorr's tar-colored minions. Stuffed bunny rabbits blasting lightning bolts that incinerate nasty beasties is so Waititi; and that's just a taste.

It's the highest compliment to say Thor: Love And Thunder isn't a Marvel movie; it's a Taika Waititi movie. Marvel sometimes struggled to let filmmakers shine, like how Captain Marvel or Thor: The Dark World don't have any identifiable flourishes. Perhaps the MCU has learned over time that their entries only benefit from letting the James Gunns and Sam Raimis of Hollywood bring every ounce of their essence into their films, which Waititi fearlessly does in Thor: Love and Thunder. 

Waititi's wacky sense of humor translates into one of the MCU's funniest gags between Thor, Stormbreaker and Mjölnir (Thor sees his "ex" with another wielder); worldly inclusivity is on full display. Marvel's latest adventure thrives because Waititi's allowed to tell the type of tale he's best at handling, whether he wants to include Thor's gigantic goat companions or present a Marvel villain that's far more complicated than the norm who egotistically thirst for world domination.

Thor: Love and Thunder is a warm hug of dazzling cosmic Marvel sights and wackadoo attitudes that kicks tons of ink-blotty butt. It's worthy of Thor's Asgardian epicness but not overpowering enough to diminish the emotional richness of subplots that are vastly more human than eternal. Its messages don't need to be more complicated than "love trumps hate" or "fight for yourself because your gods don't care" because Waititi's grandiose execution shoots straight as an arrow.

It might be a Marvel victory, but it's impossible not to acknowledge Waititi's importance beyond generic oversight. As long as the studio keeps hiring individuals who are confident in their tactics, Marvel — and audiences — will keep benefitting from franchise entries that feel standalone and incomparable instead of churned out on an assembly line.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange

Though it seems like Marvel gets just about every big name actor they want, it was a pretty big get when they landed Benedict Cumberbatch to play Dr. Stephen Strange for 2016’s Doctor Strange. The Oscar-nominated actor became a major star thanks to his role as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock, though he has given a handful of critically acclaimed performances in The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, The Imitation Game (his first Oscar nomination) and 2021’s The Power of the Dog (his second Oscar nomination), just to name a few.

Having seen Doctor Strange pop up in other Marvel movies like Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s weird to realize that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the character’s first standalone movie since he made his debut in 2016.

Cumberbatch previously teased some details of what it was like making the Doctor Strange sequel.

Having been more than five years since Doctor Strange, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness brings back a number of characters alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange that we haven’t seen since 2016. 

The two big ones are Rachel McAdam (Wedding Crashers, Spotlight) as Dr. Christine Palmer, a friend of Doctor Strange, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, The Lion King) as Mordo, a sorcerer and former ally of Doctor Strange who went off on his own at the end of the first movie. Michael Stuhlbarg (Dopesick, Call Me By Your Name) is also expected to reprise his character Dr. Nicodemus West.

Of course, Benedict Wong’s character Wong is also in the movie, but we’ve seen Wong around about as much as we’ve seen Doctor Strange. Wong has appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Shang-Chi and No Way Home.

However, the most exciting bit of casting news was that another Avenger was joining the cast of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch. Marvel fans last saw Wanda in the Disney Plus series WandaVision, but she has a big part in Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness, as Strange needs her help as he explores the mysteries of the multiverse.

Another newcomer in the film is Xochitl Gomez (The Baby Sitters Club). Gomez plays a brand new character in the MCU, America Chavez. In the Marvel comics, America Chavez is also known as Miss America, so it will be interesting to see how her story is integrated into the MCU and the potential future for her character.

The biggest pre-Doctor Strange rumor was that Patrick Stewart would feature and that proved to be true!

A teaser trailer also revealed that Peggy Carter was joining the line up, as it showed her iconic shield was amended to look like the Great Britain flag.

What’s clear from that is that after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange decides to learn more about the multiverse, for which he recruits Wanda’s help. However, amid all of the psychedelic surroundings, creatures and spells that fill the trailer, the most dangerous thing in the story, as Mordo says, is Doctor Strange himself — or, perhaps more accurately, an evil version of him.

After debuting its first trailer as a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the second trailer for the sequel was shown during Super Bowl LVI. The trailer during the big game was only about 30 seconds, but the full trailer was shared online and can be watched below.

Marvel brought in a superhero veteran to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Sam Raimi. Raimi previously directed all three of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies.

Raimi’s other directing credits also made him a particularly good choice for a movie that features “Multiverse of Madness” in its title. Raimi directed the original Evil Dead, Evil Dead II (Kevin Feige told Empire Evil Dead II fans will be happy with the movie) and Army of Darkness, as well as other horror movies like Drag Me to Hell.

Get your popcorn ready Thor fans, we’re less than a month away from Thor: Love and Thunder hitting the big screen and as of Monday, June 13, you can snag your spot to be among the first to see the latest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as advance tickets are now on sale globally. Thor: Love and Thunder premieres on Friday, July 8, in the US and UK.

Ms. Marvel comes to life thanks to the brilliant cast that has been assembled. Let’s get to know some of these wonderful cast members and the characters they play. We’ll keep updating this article as new cast members and characters are introduced, so be sure to check back frequently. 

Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel

Imagine landing the lead role in a Marvel series as your first acting gig ever. That’s how it was for Iman Vellani, who’d never done any acting prior to landing her role as Kamala Khan. In fact, her IMDb bio only lists Ms. Marvel, The Marvels and a few appearances on talk shows as her only credits. 

You’d never believe she’s new to acting when you see Vellani bring Kamala Khan to life in Ms. Marvel. It’s like she was born to play the role and now the Pakistani-Canadian actress is on her way to becoming a member of the next generation of Avengers. 

In a recent interview with What to Watch, Vellani talked about how her high school was across the street from a comic book store and while Iron Man was always her favorite character, a chance encounter with an Ironheart comic changed her destiny forever: 

"I only ever read Iron Man comics, then I picked up an Ironheart comic and Kamala was actually on the cover of that one, and I was like, 'oh my God, who is this brown person?' [laughs]. Then I read it and I fell in love. She was holding up a mirror in front of me, I felt so seen by those comics and I'm very excited for people to see why I fell in love with her."

Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli

Matt Lintz plays Kamala’s best friend Bruno Carrelli in Ms. Marvel. Bruno is the guy who’s always there for Kamala no matter what happens and she knows she can always rely on him when she needs help — even when that includes discovering that she has superpowers. 

Lintz is no stranger to acting. At just 21, his acting credits date back to an appearance in 2009’s Halloween II. After playing guest roles across numerous TV shows, he landed a recurring role on The Alienist in 2018. However, prior to landing his role in Ms. Marvel, Lintz might be best known for his tragic role as Henry in The Walking Dead.  

Yasmeen Fletcher as Nakia

Nakia is one of Kamala’s close friends and she frequently hangs out with Kamala and Bruno at school. While she’s not crazy about superheroes like her friend, she’s still very supportive nonetheless.

Fletcher is a relative newcomer to acting, with roles in Andi Mack and Upside-Down Magic prior to landing her role as Nakia in Ms. Marvel. 

The Khans: Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur and Saagar Shaikh 

Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan

Khan family matriarch Muneeba Khan comes to life through a memorable performance from Zenobia Shroff. Shroff manages to capture Muneeba’s motherly concern for her daughter while also providing some relatable moments; seeing her whisk a takeaway meal out of thin air is a Mom superpower. 

Shroff has been acting for over three decades and has had roles in everything from The Big Sick to The Resident. 

Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan

Kamala’s slightly bumbling but well-intentioned father Yusuf is played by veteran actor Mohan Kapur. Like Shroff, Kapur has been acting for 30 years. He’s had roles in shows like Everest, Hostages, Only for Singles and Bullets. 

Saagar Shaikh as Aamir Khan

Kamala’s older brother Aamir is getting ready for his wedding, much to the delight of his mother Muneeba. Naturally, Kamala gets dragged into wedding planning and preparations whether she wants to be or not. 

Saagar Shaikh has been acting for over a decade, with roles in shows like Just Giggle It, Unfair & Ugly and Liza on Demand.  

Other Ms. Marvel cast members

Other Ms. Marvel cast members include Rish Shah, Aramis Knight, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, Laurel Marsden and Nimra Bucha. We’ll be learning more about the actors and their roles as Ms. Marvel continues. 

Doctor Strange and company are heading to a new dimension — the streaming world. Disney has officially announced that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, is going to begin streaming exclusively on Disney Plus as of June 22.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premiered (and is still playing) exclusively in movie theaters on May 6. The direct sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, the titular superhero/sorcerer teams up with allies both old and new to confront a dangerous threat to not just their universe, but the entire multiverse. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is here and, as is Marvel tradition, that means even when the movie is over things aren't done yet thanks to post-credit scenes. These stingers are often used to tease future developments for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and/or just send out audiences with a good laugh. We're going to discuss what the post-credit scenes in Multiverse of Madness mean for the MCU moving forward, but first the basics.

First off, there are two post-credit scenes in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — a mid-credits scene that comes after the main credit sequence and then a post-credits scene at the very end.

We're about to get into the details of the post-credit scenes, so if you have yet to watch Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness we recommend that you stop reading and go see the movie, as some major SPOILERS are ahead.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness mid-credit scene explained

With the title including "Multiverse of Madness," there was always talk about what alternate versions or new characters might pop up in this Doctor Strange sequel. We of course got plenty thank to the inclusion of the Illuminati that featured a new version of Chiwetel Ejiofor's Mordo, Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Haley Atwell's Captain Britain, Lashana Lynch as an alternate Captain Marvel, Anson Mount as Black Bolt and, after many, many rumors, John Krasinski as the Fantastic Four's Reed Richards. However, Marvel was able to keep the biggest surprise for the mid-credits scene pretty well under wraps until the movie's release.

In the mid-credits scene we see Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) walking down the street when someone calls out his name. He turns around to find a woman in a purple, other-worldly looking suit played by Charlize Theron. She tells him that he has caused an incursion (the collision of two realities) and she needs his help to fix it. She opens up a portal to another dimension and Doctor Strange readily accepts, opening his new third eye as they head out.

Theron's arrival into the MCU is exciting in and of itself, but who is she playing? While her character's name is never uttered, piecing things together she is likely playing Clea. In Marvel lore, Clea is the niece of Dormammu, the villain from the first Doctor Strange movie. However, this doesn't make them enemies, as they worked together to defeat Dormammu and eventually got married.

This all certainly points to Theron being a part of the next Doctor Strange movie (the credits do include the "Doctor Strange will return" line), with the strong likelihood Clea will be a new love interest for Doctor Strange now that Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) is married.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness post-credit scene explained

With the mid-credit scene teasing what is to come for Doctor Strange in the MCU, the post-credit scene is a fun tag on from a joke we got earlier in the movie.

When Doctor Strange and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) arrive in an alternate version of New York, America grabs something for them to eat, pizza balls. However, they aren't free as she initially thought (apparently food is free in most universes) and Pizza Poppa (Bruce Campbell) wants his money for them. To get away, Doctor Strange casts a spell that has Pizza Poppa douse himself in mustard and then punch himself in the face. As they walk away, Doctor Strange says that the spell will ware off soon enough... in three weeks.

The post-credit scene finds Pizza Poppa exhausted but still punching himself in the face until it all of a sudden stops. Deliriously happy, he gives out a big laugh, looks at the camera and declares, "It's over!"

Though we can argue if Pizza Poppa deserved his punishment — he was rude but America did technically steal those pizza balls — the bit is a fun one that gave Sam Raimi favorite Campbell a cameo and the last line in the movie.

Doctor Strange 2 writer Michael Waldron has finally explained whether the rumored Tom Cruise cameo was ever actually in the works. 

*Warning: Minor spoilers ahead for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*

The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the biggest new movies in 2022, and it just hit theaters on May 6. It saw Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) journeying into the unknown as he tackled the mind-bending possibilities of the Multiverse.

The movie introduced us to a range of huge cameos thanks in no small part to the introduction of a version of Marvel's secretive superhero group, the Illuminati. One of the rumored members of this alternative-universe group was heavily speculated to be none other than Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise, who some fans thought would be playing a variant of Robert Downey Jr's hero, Iron Man.

In a spoiler-heavy interview with Rolling Stone, Michael Waldron has now set the record straight and explained that it wasn't really ever on the cards, even though he approached Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, about it.

Michael revealed: "Yeah, that was totally made up. I mean, there’s no cut footage of Tom Cruise! But I love Tom Cruise, and I said to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] at one point, I was like, Could we get Tom Cruise’s Iron Man? I remember reading about that in Ain’t It Cool News back in the day, that Tom Cruise was going to be Iron Man."

However, Michael doesn't think there was ever really a chance, in no small part because Tom Cruise was shooting Mission Impossible 7 and 8. When asked if anyone ever reached out to the action star, Michael replied: "I don't believe so. I just don't think it was ever an option, because of availability."

The rumors came out of the fact that Tom Cruise was thought to be a favorite for the main incarnation of Iron Man when the character was being cast back in 2007.

Moon Knight is the latest entry into the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe that's has expanded onto Disney Plus. The series, first announced back in 2019, sees the introduction of the caped crimefighter Moon Knight into the MCU. 

Moon Knight is anything but your typical superhero fare, though. The show follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift shop attendant (played by Star Wars and Dune star, Oscar Isaac) who becomes drawn into a mysterious plot whilst experiencing the memories and visions from the titular hero's life.

In the six-episode Moon Knight limited series, Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

Who is Moon Knight?

Moon Knight is probably one of the lesser-known Marvel heroes to have joined the ranks of the MCU. If you're unfamiliar with the character, we've got a full breakdown of who Moon Knight is to help you get up to speed. 

Originally, Moon Knight was introduced as a villain but the character proved popular enough that Marvel has him transformed into a gritty antihero. When his backstory was expanded upon, we learned Moon Knight's secret identity was Marc Spector.

Spector was a former Marine and CIA operative-turned mercenary. During a job in Sudan, Spector lost a fight with Raoul Bushman, a warlord who went on to become one of Moon Knight's archenemies. Though he appeared to die, Spector was reawakened at the foot of a statue of the Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu. 

Whether he was actually saved by Khonshu's divine intervention or Spector simply mistakenly attributed his survival to the god was unclear, but Spector nevertheless took up the mantle of Moon Knight and began fighting crime. 

In adopting this new identity, Spector is granted supernatural abilities, and he began strategically investing his money to finance his crime-fighting exploits. He also began developing additional alters to help him keep an ear to the ground, something which took its toll on Marc Spector's mental health.

More recent incarnations of the character saw Spector becoming a conduit for Khonshu (who was proven to exist in the Marvel comics universe) and developing additional persona such as "Mr. Knight", a well-dressed new take on the character.

Later storylines have also continued to explore Moon Knight's mental health and whether his schizophrenia and/or dissociative identity disorder were by-products of his transformation into the Moon Knight or mental disorders that he was already living with prior to becoming a superhero. Kevin Feige confirmed back in 2020 that Moon Knight would be tackling the character's dissociative identity disorder as part of the show.

Who's in the Moon Knight cast?

Oscar Isaac leads the cast as Moon Knight. His secret identity in the show is Steven Grant, a gift-shop employee who is experiencing visions and memories of Marc Spector and the Egyptian God, Khonshu. He described his character as "someone who's desperate for connection but hasn't developed the proper skills for that. He is also living with this condition that is a mystery to him" when we spoke to Oscar Isaac ahead of Moon Knight's release.

Speaking to Variety about his new role last year, Isaac said: "I found so much room to do things that I've never done before and had been curious about and wanting to do.

"I could not wait to get to set, and it was the biggest workload I've ever had in my career and most challenging; by the sheer amount of stuff we had to do in eight months, and even yet, I couldn't wait to get to set and work."

Ethan Hawke stars opposite Isaac as Dr. Arthur Harrow, the lead antagonist for the series. Little is known about the character right now, but he appears to be some sort of cult leader who is devoted to Ammit, a figure from the Egyptian pantheon of Gods.

Oscar Isaac told us how he'd managed to help get Ethan Hawke on board. He said: "I’d been watching him in the TV series The Good Lord Bird, and I was astounded by his work in that and mentioned him to one of the directors. Ethan lives right around the corner from me, so we got together, and I got him drunk on tequila and made him say yes!"

May Calamawy (Ramy) joined the show back in January 2021 as a mysterious associate of Marc Spector called Layla El-Faouly. Gaspard Ulliel (Hannibal Rising) plays the role of Midnight Man/Anton Mogart, one of Moon Knight's enemies. This will be one of Gaspard's final roles as the actor passed away following a skiing accident in January 2022.

F. Murray Abraham (Mythic Quest) was revealed more recently as the voice of Khonshu in February 2022. 

Is there a Moon Knight trailer?

Marvel released several trailers to build the hype ahead of Moon Knight's release date.

During Super Bowl LVI, we were treated to a TV Spot that showed off Oscar Isaac in action as he dives off the roof in full costume of a building to face down some henchmen.

Our first glimpse at the series came on Disney Plus Day with some footage shown exclusively on the platform. It saw Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight admitting he struggles to make out the difference between his dreams and real life, along with some brief shots of Isaac in costume.

The first full trailer for Moon Knight was released during halftime of the NFL Super Wild Card game between the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams on ESPN on Jan. 17. 

It introduces us to Isaac's main persona, Steven Grant, and sees him suited up in full costume, beating down one of his enemies which we think might be the Werewolf By Night.

Who's directing Moon Knight?

Mohamed Diab was tapped to direct four episodes of Moon Knight, with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead co-directing the remaining two.

The end of Moon Knight is here, folks. What a ride it’s been. Last week, this wild journey with Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac) revealed the trauma he endured to create Steven Grant and ended with him in the Egyptian afterlife just as Harrow (Ethan Hawke) released Ammit back on Earth. Thankfully, this episode, rises to the occasion for what may be the best season finale of an MCU series yet.  

The action kicks off with the last known events on Earth prior to Marc’s journey into the afterlife. Harrow has shot him and takes the statue of Ammit. Meanwhile, Layla (May Calamawy) stalks and takes out Harrow’s men in the shadows, hoping to strike Harrow when his guard is down. Unfortunately that moment never comes. Instead, Harrow uses the statue of Ammit to upgrade his cane like a D&D weapon and leaves. Layla then mourns over Marc but is able to find the scarab, which she can use to find Harrow.

Harrow uses his new cane and the powers of Ammit to suck out the souls of many Egyptian border guards. Layla tries to kill him, but Taweret (voiced by Antonia Salib) is there to intervene on Marc’s behalf. She tells her to get to the temple of the gods and break the statue to release Khonshu (voiced by F. Murray Abraham) and help Marc.

Harrow’s forces ultimately beat her to the temple of the gods, where the once mighty counsel of gods ends up all getting decimated by their own stupidity and Harrow’s new powers. He then officially destroys Ammit’s statue and releases the crocodile-looking god from her prison. It’s a real treat to see Ammit in the flesh, even if the effects aren’t always the best. Ammit judges Harrow on the spot and agrees to accept him as her avatar.

Thankfully, Layla gets Khonshu’s statue and smashes it. Khonshu is freed, but cannot stop Ammit without help. Khonshu tries to convince Layla to let her be his avatar. While she’s willing to team up with good old "Big Bird" she refuses to give control up to him the way Marc did. So Khonshu tries to take matters into his own hands and fights Ammit.

We then pick up with Marc, who is in literal paradise. His heart is full and he’s meant to be at peace. But he’s saddened by losing Steven and wants to help him rather than abandon him. Taweret reminds him that once he leaves, he’ll no longer be able to return. Marc takes his chances and heads into the Duat to find Steven’s already sandy corpse. 

There’s a genuinely touching moment between Marc and Steven, where Marc thanks him for allowing him to escape the terrible bits of his life. "You are the only real superpower I ever had." It’s wonderful to finally see Marc embracing the "Steven" elements of his life too. Unfortunately, he begins to turn to sand as well. However, like magic, with their hands locked over the heart from the previous episode, Steven actually comes back and so does Marc.

Marc and Steven then head for an open gate as they're chased by a huge tidal wave, making it out and having Marc’s body wakes up. Back on Earth, Khonshu can protect him and allows him to heal and rock the Moon Knight costume to enter the battle. However, given Khonshu cannot be trusted, Steven, as Mr. Knight, steps in as the negotiator he was born to be, telling Khonshu this will be the last job and he’ll have to release them once it’s done. Once Khonshu agrees, Marc flies off.

Back in the temple of the gods, Layla tries to save Osiris’ but can't. Before dying, he tells Layla they needed more avatars to stop Ammit. So Layla surrenders herself to Taweret, turning into a superhero with an awesome costume and metal wings.

As Harrow has full on hypnotized Cairo into doing his judgement day bidding and having Ammit eat people's souls, Marc arrives and a battle ensues at the Great Pyramid. It ends up being a good old fashioned tag team between Khonshu/Marc and Ammit/Harrow. But wait, there’s more. Layla enters the picture, flying in (once again, being a total badass), turning the fight into a three on two.  

The fight scene switches between Mr. Knight and Moon Knight personas as Steven has embraced the part of himself that’s a fighter. Seeing him unleash a brilliantly choreographed sequence is a real treat. Layla gets in on the action, saving a van and confirms with a local that she is "an Egyptian superhero."

However, our heroes appear to be losing the fight. Khonshu is about to be stabbed and killed by Ammit. Marc is about to be stabbed by Harrow and his evil magic cane. Marc blacks out and, to his surprise, wakes up to an unconscious Harrow. Neither he nor Steven did this. So who did?

But there's no time for answers. Marc and Layla need to stop Ammit by binding her to Harrow’s body and killing Harrow. They manage to imprison Ammit into Harrow, but upon hearing that Khonshu wants Marc to finish the job, he refuses and tells Khonshu he’s out and to finish the job himself.

We get one more visit to "Doctor Harrow" as Marc and Steven realize they’re actually at peace with one another and know what’s real and what isn’t. But before he can say "later, gators" to Doctor Harrow, Marc wakes up in the real world chained to their bed, like he was in the first two episodes.

That would be where the whole thing ends, but this being a Marvel story means there’s an extra scene at the end, which is absolutely necessary to tell this story. 

Harrow is in a hospital and gets checked out by an orderly speaking Spanish. We know this character is dangerous, having killed a real orderly. The man stuffs Harrow into a luxury vehicle where Khonshu is waiting for him. Not wanting to take any chances, Khonshu rolls down the partisan to reveal a third personality for Marc Spector: Jake Lockley. Jake shoots and presumably kills Harrow.

This was an amazing journey to walk through. Thank you very much for staying with us on this. Hopefully more Moon Knight will be one the way, somehow.
