Iain Dean’s home truths

Newly married Iain Dean finds his relationship with Faith is hanging by a thread as the latest 12-part storyline, Supply and Demand ends!

Since learning that his alcoholic mother, Kim, was dying, the paramedic has slowly shut down on his wife. Meanwhile, he’s been confiding in the couple’s bridesmaid Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless).

This week Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) is stunned when consultant Stevie reveals that Kim died three days ago… It’s no picnic for Stevie either, as she feels forced into revealing the truth to a clearly hurting and confused Faith after Iain (Michael Stevenson) started ignoring her calls.

“Iain’s not very good at expressing his emotions,” explains Kirsty Mitchell, who plays advanced clinical practitioner Faith, when she joins What To Watch for an exclusive interview. “She tries to give him space because she realises how big a deal losing his mum is.”

Death on duty?

While Faith is coming to terms with Iain’s secrecy the man himself is on a nail-biting police raid with the HART team. There are twists, turns and unexpected violence aplenty as the emergency services do everything in their power to take down Holby’s drug dynasty.

Just when they think they’ve got the masterminds where they want them, however, the episode deftly changes direction as married criminal kingpins, Imogen Yates (Natasha Atkinson) and her husband, make a desperate last bid for freedom.

For once, Iain - the James Bond of the medical world - doesn’t endanger his own life in the line of duty - although, like 007, the same can’t be said for those in close proximity to him…

Iain’s realisation

Back at the ED, Iain realises the severity of his actions, but also the reasons why he takes deadly risks and is in a state of shock as this sinks in.

At the end of their shift, Faith reaches out to her husband but is left speechless when he delivers a devastating home truth.

“It’s a massive heartbreaking shock and, for Faith, it comes from nowhere,” says Kirsty. “I can’t say anything more - but it gets really juicy after that.” Full interview with Kirsty Mitchell coming soon.

Could this be the end of the road for the couple?

Flynn caught in the act

Once again Holby ED is facing an emergency situation and clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is nowhere to be seen. When he does finally turn up, it’s clear he’s had a late night and, no matter what he thinks, his desk-deodorant isn’t as effective as he believes!

Fed up but also concerned, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) attempts to talk to Flynn about his behaviour and points out that he has a problem, which Flynn arrogantly shrugs off. But later, after nurse Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell), finds Flynn in a state of undress with a patient’s mother, he begins to unravel.

After hooking up with Layla Kelly (Lauren Cornelius, Gavin & Stacey) in a supply cupboard, her teenage daughter Molly (Alis Waters, The Flatshare) suffers a seizure due to a bleed on the brain. When Dylan rushes to save her he learns what Flynn has been up to!

With his future now in Dylan’s hands, Flynn desperately tries to redeem himself.

But is it too little too late?

Also in Casualty this week

Viewers may experience warm fuzzy feelings during this episode because love is in the air for Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) and Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak), as their cute relationship really starts to blossom.

This feeling continues, as we learn more about Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) and his family. Could this herald a change in fortunes for the over-worked medic and dedicated father?

Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) also gets some good news that he, of course, shares with best pal Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari), which warms the cockles.

Sadly, however, doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) is in a state of distress as she realises that she may never see nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) again.

Fortunately clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) steps in to save the day she when helps Nicole make a romantic dash to the airport. But with everything seemingly against them, will they make it there before it's too late?

Meanwhile, at Holby Airport, Ngozi’s son, Obi (Aryel Tsotois) is excited to be returning home to Nigeria permanently with his mum. However, Ngozi doesn’t feel the same way, no matter how much she tries to pretend otherwise.

We really don’t want to reveal anything further about this storyline for fear of spoiling it, but all we will say is that Casualty, after nearly 40 years on our screens, has lost none of its power to shock us, move us and bring us to tears, while leaving us wanting more.

Can Rash Masum save Sunny?

Doctor Rash Masum receives shocking news when he answers Holby ED’s emergency phone this week - his ex-girlfriend Sunny Callahan has been shot and is being raced to the department under armed guard!

Rash (Neet Mohan) was instrumental in former pharmacist Sunny’s arrest when he discovered she’d been stealing morphine from the hospital for a local drug gang. This week Sunny (Ralph & Katy star Jamie Marie Leary) is in the witness stand at Holby Crown Court when she’s gunned down by the ruthless criminals - even though she’d refused to name names in her testimony.

Shaken and guiltstricken Rash insists on treating his ex, and the medic's worried friend, Rida Amaan, volunteers to assist…

“That’s where Rida’s strength lies - she’s a nurse, a carer and often selflessly looks after other people,” says Sarah Seggari, whose nurse character almost had a relationship with Rash in the past. “Rash and Rida will always be in each other’s lives.”

Admitted with a gunshot wound to her chest, Sunny needs urgent surgery. Yet, as her condition deteriorates, Rash encourages her to make a full confession to the police - even though clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is furious about delaying life-saving treatment.

Can Rash save Sunny and help take down Holby’s deadly drug dealers?

Stevie discovers Iain in a shocking act!

This visit to Holby - the penultimate episode in the Supply and Demand 12-parter - opens with an armed response to the shooting, as the drama is dialed up in anticipation of next week’s unmissable finale.

Paramedic Iain Dean, still on secondment with the HART team and is a first responder at Holby Crown Court.

In his professional life Iain (Michael Stevenson) is saving lives on the front line. Yet his behaviour towards Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) becomes increasingly unsettling to witness - especially for the couple’s best friend Stevie Nash.

Not only is Iain giving Faith the silent treatment after their first therapy session, he has no problem opening up to Stevie (Elinor Lawless) about his innermost thoughts and feelings. That in itself may seem innocent enough, but viewers will remember that Stevie attempted to kiss Iain at her best friend’s wedding!

To be fair to the ED consultant, she was particularly vulnerable at the time, and it doesn’t seem like there are any untoward inventions at play here. Stevie also acts as a confidant for Faith, who is confused as to why her husband is avoiding her, and clearly cares about the newlyweds’ happiness.

However, Iain’s actions towards the end of this episode, coupled with a shock development, have the potential to cause far-reaching harm.

Will Stevie be forced to break his confidence?

As news of the shooting comes through to Holby ED, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) and Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) once again find themselves leading the emergency response in the absence of the department’s clinical lead. When Flynn Byron does eventually rock up, it’s clear that he’s had another big night…

Initially Flynn doesn’t appear to be taking the role seriously, but will he redeem himself when nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) turns to him for advice?

Meanwhile, Dylan gives Ngozi a thoughtful parting gift and receives a heartfelt hug in return...

Grieving Nicole Piper is thrown for a loop when she realises it’s Ngozi’s last day in Holby ED. She only realises that they’ll soon be parting ways after her ex invites the doctor to her ‘surprise’ leaving party later that evening.

But, before then, the former lovers must work closely together as they treat musician Ricky Valens (Alex Farrell), who is suffering from severe alcohol poisoning. Nicole (Sammy T. Dobson) is impressed as Ngozi keeps a cool head and remembers an experimental remedy that could save the young man’s life.

Will there be tears and regret as they prepare to part ways for good?

Yet, unknown to Nicole, Ngozi is reeling from the sudden appearance of a returning patient. When she last saw Joel Hannigan (superbly played by Israel J Fredericks) the nurse had outed him as an undercover police officer, resulting in the death of another patient. Now, however, Joel has descended into drug addiction and self-destruction.

Can guilt-ridden Ngozi help Joel?

And, finally, Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) reluctantly agrees to go on a date with Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh). Will he stand her up again? Or could this be the start of a new romance?

It’s been quite a few years since we last saw former comedy partners and presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins together on TV (although they have hosted a podcast together), so we’re delighted they’re back on prime time with a brand new series. There are plenty of quiz shows in the schedules, but there’s a major difference with this one, which poses Family Fortunes-style survey questions. It’s interactive in that viewers can play along at home, not just for their own enjoyment or to satisfy a competitive streak, but to have the chance to win the same prizes as the studio contestants. At the end of the series’ run, there’s £1 million up for grabs – which could be won by a lucky viewer!

Annika, BBC1, 9.10 pm

The plot threads involving the fractured family of DI Annika Strandhed (Nicola Walker) continue to be woven throughout this final episode in the series, revolving especially around the father figures of Magnus (Sven Henriksen) and Michael (Jamie Sives). The Marine Homicide Unit is assigned the case when a retired detective inspector dies in a houseboat fire. One of the suspects is ex-con Gary Nair (a creepy turn by Two Doors Down’s Jonathan Watson) and, as the investigation continues, it becomes more and more personal for Annika. We’re left with a brilliant cliffhanger, but it’s uncertain if it’ll be resolved as there are currently no plans for a third series…

Casualty, BBC1, 8.20pm

Armed with her biological mother’s address, tonight Nicole Piper heads to Newcastle seeking answers about why she was put into foster care as a young child. In true drama fashion, she turns up on Tina Piper’s doorstep, is mistaken for a district nurse and invited inside. But, that plot convenience aside, this is an episode worth tuning in for. Before long Nicole’s experiencing flashbacks, Tina’s rumbled her real identity and from there the shocks keep coming. A truly moving and dignified exploration into the medic’s painful past and resulting hard truths with standout performances from I, Daniel Blake’s Sammy T. Dobson and Sharon Percy.

You Bet! On Tour. OTV1, 8.15 pm

As Stephen Mulhern continues to take his game show around the UK, he finds more people ready to take on his challenges as they bid to win £5,000. As ever, there’s a celebrity panel on hand, whose task is to try to predict whether those challenges will be completed. Today, that falls to Rob Beckett, Zoe Ball and Eddie Kadi.

Nicole Piper leaves Holby

Nicole Piper is armed with her biological mother’s address, as she heads to Newcastle seeking answers about why she was put into the foster care system as a young child.

Speaking to WTW Sammy T. Dobson, who plays Nicole, explained: “When Nicole asked to see her care file there was nothing on it - it was all redacted. She’s having all these raw emotions and not able to process what’s what."

One thing Nicole is certain of in this episode, which covers three days in the doctor’s life, is that her mother’s name is Tina Piper. This week a nervous Nicole turns up on the woman’s doorstep where Tina (Sharon Percy, I, Daniel Blake) mistakes her for a district nurse and invites her inside!

Truth be told

It isn’t long, however, until Nicole is forced to reveal her true identity and the situation becomes heated and emotional. With Nicole experiencing flashbacks to her childhood, while Tina rumbles her real identity, the shocks just keep coming for the medic.

“In her mind she was abandoned with no reason and has made up these stories in her head. As you get towards the end [you see] that she’s connected all of these dots and remembers all these little bits and pieces and has created something but, actually, she doesn't know whether it's true or not,” says Sammy, who adds: “It all comes to a crescendo. It’s hard to deal with and overwhelmingly sad.”

Can Nicole handle the heartbreaking truth?

Back at Holby ED Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) is keeping up to date with Cassie Woods’ situation and providing Nicole with updates on the young woman, while also being a tower of support while her ex-girlfriend explores her painful past.

Meanwhile, Cassie (Charlie Ann Upton) is still in ICU and her doctor, Lauren Maddox (Paksie Vernon, Shetland) isn’t hopeful about her patient’s prognosis…

In absence of any family, clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) has been appointed as Cassie’s medical advocate to make decisions in her best interest.

So, when the young woman’s mother, Vicky (Kirsty Armstrong) makes a sudden reappearance he has to explain that it’s possible her daughter is experiencing no brain activity, which in turn triggers something painful from his own past.

After Lauren sends Cassie for a scan and while they wait on the results, Flynn reverts to his typical behaviour and hits on the doctor! But he’s stopped in his tracks when Lauren says, “You don’t remember me, do you?”

How does Lauren know Flynn?

Later in the episode, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) and Siobhan McKenzie are shocked at Flynn’s erratic behaviour after Cassie’s results come back.

Suspicious as to what's really at play here, Dylan does some digging into Flynn’s background and makes a shocking discovery!

What is the ED boss hiding? And will Dylan reveal his findings?

Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) is also starting to worry about Flynn when she sees him fly off the handle at a muckraking reporter (played by Rhys Parry Jones, Pobol y Cwm, House of the Dragon).

Will she bring her concerns to Dylan?

Flynn isn’t the only person whose emotions are close to the surface this week. Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) is back on active duty following the fake drug theft allegations and takes his rage at the wrongful accusation out on Rash Masum (Neet Mohan).

Rash explains that the actual thief, former pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary) is no longer in his life, but it falls on deaf ears.

It’s up to nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) and Jan Jenning (DI Botcher) to calm the situation between the two hurting men before it escalates.

But, unknown to his peers, Rash is reeling for another reason — Sunny has sent him a prison visiting order. He confides in Rida, who encourages him to visit his ex and convince her to start naming names and give evidence on Holby’s drug kingpins.

Will Rash go against his better judgment and pay Sunny a visit?

There are more of Annika’s to-camera eye-rolls than usual as she’s wearing a blood-pressure monitor and reckons her strained relationship with Magnus is sending the readings rocketing. Meanwhile, Morgan (Silvie Furneaux), who’s doing work experience at the resort, is keen to play happy families, but she’s still unaware that a vital piece of that particular puzzle is imminent…

Jan (Di Botcher) channels her inner Miss Marple as she sets out to unmask the morphine thief. We know Sunny is the culprit, but can she keep Jan, and Holby’s terrifying drug dealers, at bay by setting up pharmaceutical driver Terry (Bill Fellows) – who may prove tragically essential in bringing the city’s illegal activities to a grinding halt? If variety is the spice of life, this episode is a peppery mix of detection, deceit and, randomly, drama involving a deadly scorpion.

You Bet! on Tour, ITV1, 8 pm

Stephen Mulhern takes his popular show on the road in this new series as he travels the UK and gets people to take on more ‘brilliantly bonkers and amazing challenges’, which could see them win £5,000 as a You Bet! champion. He’ll also be joined by celebrities including Rylan Clark, Holly Willoughby, Alison Hammond, Zoe Ball and Oti Mabuse as they try to predict how each of the challenges will turn out. Tonight’s panel features Alesha Dixon, Josie Gibson and Josh Widdicombe. How accurate will their predictions be?

The Hit List, BBC1, 5.45 pm

Following a run of regular episodes, Rochelle and Marvin Humes are hosting celebrity specials of their music-based quiz, which this week sees former Boyzone star Shane Lynch and his wife Sheena White, star of the reality show The Real Housewives of Cheshire, take on Radio 1 presenters Matt Edmondson and Jeremiah Asiamah and The Great Pottery Throw Down’s Keith Brymer Jones and comedian Sophie Duker. The three teams attempt to name songs and artists in quirky rounds such as You’re the First, You’re the Last, where the title is in either the opening or last lyric of a song. The winners will get the chance to win £10,000 for their chosen charity.

Rash Masum learns the terrible truth

Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) is in for a shock this week when he learns his girlfriend is stealing drugs from the hospital.

The dramatic developments are set in motion when Jan Jenning (Di Botcher) embarks on a mission to identify Holby’s morphine thief. Suspecting the culprit works in Holby’s pharmaceutical department, the paramedic pays a visit to chemist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary) and almost catches her in the act.

Realising something’s amiss Jan is about to investigate further when they’re interrupted by the arrival of cheery delivery driver, Terry Melville (Bill Fellows, Coronation Street, Whitstable Pearl), an old friend, who clearly holds a torch for the medic!

Later, still determined to get to the truth and unable to shake the sense that Sunny is hiding something, Jan turns to Rash with her suspicions…

Rash’s decision

At first Rash is shocked and defends Sunny, but over the course of the shift it’s clear she’s on edge and, when she makes a near-fatal error with a patient that’s been stung by a scorpion (see more below), he asks her to tell him what’s going on.

But he soon wishes he hadn’t!

Sunny finally opens up and reveals she has serious reasons for doing what she's doing - the violent drug gang have her son Jake (Gabriel Goulding) and are threatening to hurt him.

Distraught, Sunny begs Rash to keep her secret and not report her.

Will he help cover up her crimes?

Shock twist

Unbeknownst to Rash, however, his pharmacist girlfriend has come up with a desperate plan to get the ruthless dealers off her back.

Sunny arranges for the gang to rob the van of pharmaceutical delivery driver Terry, with catastrophic consequences…

Also in Casualty this week

Paramedics Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) and Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) are in for a shock when they’re paired together this week. One of their first patients is Mandy Butcher (Amy Du Quesne, Brassic), who is severely ill with a suspected overdose.

However, they’ve failed to notice something small but significant as they transfer Mandy to the ED — a deadly scorpion is on the loose in their ambulance!

Doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) is keeping vigil by Cassie Woods’ (Charlie Ann Upton) hospital bed when an unexpected stranger turns up.

Despite clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) doing his best to support the doctor during this difficult time, Nicole erupts with fury at the visitor.

Meanwhile, Nicole’s ex, Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) comforts the doctor as events escalate and viewers learn more about what was on Nicole’s care file…

Who is Vicky (Kirsty Armstrong, My Mad Fat Diary, Coronation Street) and what does she want?

Flynn also has Cam Mickelthwaite’s back this week when they deal with a potentially dangerous domestic violence case.

As Cam (Barney Walsh) attempts to keep pregnant patient Amina Malik (Hemma Gulhane, Coronation Street, The Full House) out of sight when her furious husband Ashraf (Sagar Arya, The Winter King, Virdee) demands to see her, Flynn uses his particular set of skills to stop the confrontation from turning physical.

Jan’s not the only one who clocks that something is up with Rash and Sunny in this episode - nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) and consultant Dylan Keogh (Will Beck) sense that all is not well with the couple. Will they start asking questions?

Meanwhile, consultant Steve Nash (Elinor Lawless) finds herself embroiled in other people’s problems - and we’re not talking about her patients.

And, finally, newly married medics Faith and Iain Dean’s relationship is hanging by a thread. Terrified she’s going to lose Iain, Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) signs them up for marriage counselling, with their first session taking place after their shifts end.

Will this prove to be just what the couple needs? Or will it reveal deeper problems in the relationship?

His (former?) bezzie mate Iain (Michael Stevenson) is by his side every step of the way, although their bromance is still broken. Iain’s marriage to Faith is on pretty shaky ground, too… Elsewhere, Nicole’s attempts to help vulnerable Cassie flee from Holby end in tragedy and open a Pandora’s box on her own painful past in the process.

When a block of ice containing a body is discovered between the islands of Islay and Jura, Annika (Nicola Walker) and Michael (Jamie Sives) head to the Inner Hebrides, where they’re joined again by Harper Weston (Doctor Who’s Varada Sethu), who’s now been transferred to the Marine Homicide Unit. Just as Annika and Michael have found a way to talk about their daughter Morgan, Annika gets sidetracked when she realises that her ex Jake (Paul McGann) is at a conference on Islay. What follows is another entertaining episode of the police procedural, with the usual quirks thrown in – including an unusual tattoo, George Orwell’s 1984 and a brief foray into Call the Midwife territory for Annika.

Bettany Hughes' Lost Worlds, C4, 8.10 pm

For her latest series, Bettany Hughes uncovers the mysteries and legacy of the Nabataeans, an extraordinary desert people who flourished in a kingdom with the capital city of Petra (in southern Jordan) between the 4th century BC and 1st century AD. ‘They were the engine of ancient civilisation, but have been largely written out of history. Great Gardens of Europe, 5, 6.20 pm

If you’re looking for an opportunity to escape and unwind, there are few better ways than a trip to beautiful green spaces – without even having to leave your sofa. This new series does what it says on the tin and shows us some of Europe’s best gardens. This first episode begins near Amsterdam with the site of one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, Leiden’s Hortus Botanicus. As well as exploring its fascinating history, including its role in making tulips popular across the Netherlands, the programme also takes viewers around the gardens to see some of the exotic species in the tropical greenhouses, as well as centuries-old trees.

Sammy T. Dobson has been a Casualty fan-favourite since joining the BBC medical drama as warm-hearted and empathetic doctor Nicole Piper in 2024. So, naturally, viewers were stunned when she unceremoniously dumped her partner, nurse Ngozi Okoye (played by Adesuwa Oni), without explanation before the commencement of the current 12-part miniseries Supply and Demand.

Since then, we’ve learned a lot more about Nicole’s troubled past and the hidden reasons for her recent behaviour. While on a recent visit to the show’s fantastic set in Cardiff, What To Watch and other press caught up with Sammy to learn more about Nicole’s emotionally charged storyline, which escalates when this week's episode airs on Saturday 23 August…

Jacob Masters stands his ground

Paramedic Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) is understandably seething as he’s put on desk duty while an investigation into whether or not he stole morphine supplies gets underway this week. And, adding insult to injury, Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) is covering his shifts!

Their boss, Jan Jenning (Di Botcher), does her best to calm the stormy waters, but it’s no easy feat with tension brewing and emotions running high.

Arresting development

As Iain’s shift gets underway, shocking events at a shout out in an underground carpark (see below for more) lend weight to his developing theory that the morphine being supplied to the paramedic crews is most probably being tampered with.

Desperate to right wrongs, Iain persuades Jacob to join forces with him to prove his suspicions, and the results are horrifying…

Faith no more?

Prior to this, in an exchange between Iain and his new wife Faith Dean (yes, we’re officially calling her Mrs Dean now!), the advanced clinical practitioner remains unconvinced of Jacob’s innocence.

Initially Iain’s frustrated when Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) defends her position, but later, based on her hubby’s discoveries, she’s forced to admit she got it wrong.

Feeling terrible Faith heads over to the ambulance station to apologise to Jacob at the earliest opportunity, but he’s not interested in anything she has to say.

It’s also clear that Iain is furious with Faith. In a heated exchange, words are said that cannot be unsaid and big cracks appear in their relationship.

Morphine thief revealed

Meanwhile, hurting from being accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Jacob thaws towards his (former?) bessie mate Iain as they work together to irrefutably prove his innocence.

Speaking about the future for the friends Charles Venn, who plays Jacob Masters tells WTW: “You want to believe that they’ll figure it out eventually, like brothers. It's that whole thing of you might not be happy, it may take a minute, but deep down you want to resolve it, and you just hope it's a case of not if, but when.” Full interview available here

But even so, their bromance is still broken, and Iain’s marriage to Faith is on pretty shaky ground now as well.

There’s a shock twist too — as they inch closer to the truth, the identity of the real culprit is revealed to viewers!

Nicole and Cassie - tragedy strikes

Another major storyline this week revolves around doctor Nicole Piper’s attempts to help vulnerable Cassie Woods escape the criminal drug gang that’s been making the young woman’s life a misery.

The story kicks off with both women on pins as they count down the hours until Cassie (Charlie Ann Upton) hops on a one-way train to Newcastle to stay with a close friend of Nicole’s.

However, when Nicole (Sammy T. Dobson) must go into work at the last minute, Cassie decides to leave the safety of the flat to buy her a goodbye gift.

We don’t want to spoil what happens next, other than to say that there are shocking scenes after Cassie is brutally attacked while walking through an underground carpark and is raced to Holby ED.

As her life hangs in the balance, Nicole reaches out to social services for additional support for deathly ill Cassie and opens a Pandora's box on her own painful past in the process…

Nicole opens up to her ex, nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni), about her childhood, revealing that she grew up in care after her mother gave her up when she was four-years-old.

There appears to be a glimmer of hope for the former couple in that moment, until Ngozi reveals a shocking secret of her own…

Elsewhere, consultant Dylan Keogh (William Beck) is privy to Ngozi’s decision and gently advises her to reconsider!

Nurse Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) considers whether or not to forgive a friend.

Paramedic Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak), however, is not in such a forgiving mood when it comes to Cam. Sensing the tension Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) attempts to play matchmaker.

And, finally, doctor Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) is feeling slightly daunted as he faces a difficult shift on his first day off antidepressants. Fortunately, nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) is on hand for support and encouragement. And Rash ends up needing her advice after pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary) excitedly reveals she's ready to take their relationship to the next level…

No, not that!

She invites him over to hers for a takeaway and to meet her teenage son Jake (Gabriel Goulding, The Kitchen).

At first Rash agrees, but then gets cold feet. Is he ready to face his fears, or will he end the budding romance in its tracks?

Charles Venn is dressed in his Casualty character’s green paramedic uniform when he joins What to Watch and other press for a chat on the set of BBC’s medical drama.

It’s a sunny summer afternoon in July and we’ve just been treated to a tour of the show’s utterly wonderful, expansive and impressively realistic hospital set in Cardiff when we’re joined in the Holby ED reception area by the actor, who plays Jacob Masters, and he is beaming from ear to ear and ready to spill the beans on the upcoming drama in the current 12-part miniseries Supply and Demand.

An essential part of the show since making his debut in 2015 as a nurse, in his time on the series, he’s had a fair few romances, and was promoted to clinical nurse manager before he quit Holby ED and started a new career as a paramedic in 2023.

His latest storyline, however, is shocking even by Casualty standards, with circumstantial evidence pointing to the medic being a morphine thief!

Jacob Masters stunned by suspicions

Jacob Masters has been concentrating on looking after his family during the Holby City drug crisis unaware that Iain Dean feels wedged between their rock-solid friendship and a hard decision following his wife Faith’s ultimatum in last week’s episode.

In this episode, Iain (Michael Stevenson) bites the bullet and confronts his closest friend head-on, revealing that he suspects Jacob of stealing morphine!

Jacob (Charles Venn) is incredulous as his paramedic pal shares his suspicions. And, sadly, it isn't long before they are hurling accusations before things escalate further…

Fighting friends

Furious, Jacob tells Iain he needs to look for the culprit closer to home - meaning recovering drug addict Faith (Kirsty Mitchell), which in turn causes Iain to react in fury!

And, as things become increasingly heated the pair get into a physical altercation! Later, when there’s a chemical leak at Holby Leisure Centre, the former friends are forced to work together, but it is clear battle lines have been drawn…

With lives on the line, can they call a temporary truce, despite the bubbling tension?

We don’t want to give too much away, but after events at the swimming pool incident, there are shocking revelations, which are followed by a huge twist!

It’s fair to say that Jacob appears to be acting like the injured party, but is he truly innocent? Or has he done the unthinkable to support his struggling family?

Cam accused of sexual assault

Nurse Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) is floating on air as his shift starts. Why? Because paramedic Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) has gathered the courage to ask him out on a date!

Yet, despite this good start to the day, things quickly go downhill when he treats patient Bex Cross (Molly Bryson).

Bex has injured herself while jumping off a balcony for a bet while high on drugs and, when she’s first admitted, she flirts with Cam. Later, however, she becomes confused and believes Cam has assaulted her while inserting a catheter.

Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) takes the matter seriously and acts according to protocol, but Cam is hurt as his friend takes a hardline approach to the unfounded accusations.

After a trying day, the fallout continues when it’s time for Cam to meet Indie for that afterwork drink…

Nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) is upset when she overhears doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) ordering a one way ticket to Newcastle and telling someone over the phone that she loves them…

Then later, Ngozi’s son Obi (Aryel Tsotois) reveals he wants to return to Nigeria.

Is this the final nail in the coffin for the former couple?

Stevie realises this is because he’s determined to meet with whoever he was talking to on the phone and, as he races out of the ED late for her his appointment, she can’t help feeling concerned.

Dylan Keogh pushes Flynn to act

Dylan Keogh (William Beck) has been trying to come up with practical solutions since Holby ED was plunged into a deadly drug crisis, yet clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) has undermined the experienced consultant every step of the way.

This week, however, things come to a head in light of last week’s tragic events.

Picking up in the aftermath of a nightmare shift this week Dylan has a proposal for Flynn…

Flynn fibs

Dylan believes that Flynn’s handling of the drug crisis hasn’t been what the department’s needed, and it seems the ED leader is beginning to realise that. Meanwhile, Dylan has left a written proposal on necessary next steps on Flynn’s desk and urges him to read it.

Yet, when Flynn sits down to study it he’s too exhausted to read it. Instead he lies to Dylan saying that he did and gives him the go ahead to implement his ideas, even though he has no idea what he’s just okayed!

Fight

Having been given the thumps up Dylan begins protecting at-risk patients. But, when Flynn overhears him telling them about the hospital's guilt-free amnesty programme, he explodes!

While taking Dylan to task, a furious Flynn also insults the doctor and it becomes clear that he hasn’t read his proposal at all.

As tempers flare, what will happen next? After all, Flynn has been physical with the consultant before...

Teddy steals from a dead patient!

There are shock scenes this week when Iain Dean becomes certain he knows who the morphine thief is. The senior paramedic can hardly believe his eyes when he catches Teddy Gowan stealing medication from a deceased patient.

What follows is a terrific two-hander between Michael Stevenson and Milo Clarke, who play the medics, as Iain must decide whether or not to report his once-trusted colleague…

Jan Jenning (Di Botcher) breathes a sigh of relief when she picks up an emergency call and it’s Indie on the line in need of urgent medical assistance. Now it’s a race against time to get the young friends to Holby ED for treatment. Will they survive?

Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) has been frantic with worry over Indie’s disappearance and is visibly relieved when she is found. But will Cam get a chance to tell Indie how he really feels about her?

Elsewhere, doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) tries to make a difference in the face of a heartbreaking predicament involving a patient, his wife, and their young son, revealing something of her own childhood trauma in the process...

Later, despite being banned from her foster mother Maggie’s funeral, she attends the service and makes a decision.

Meanwhile, suspicions increase as evidence seems to point to Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) being the morphine thief. First he asks Iain for a massive loan and then he walks out abruptly as the paramedic team learns that the police have released an alert warning the emergency medics that hospital grade morphine is on the streets.

Fearing the worst, Iain turns to his wife, Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) with his concerns and she issues him with an ultimatum - either you report Jacob or I will!

Teddy Gowan’s downward spiral

Teddy Gowan’s day starts off badly and gets worse from there when Casualty returns after a break in the schedules this week.

First up the paramedic is paired with co-worker Indie Jankowski, who he still harbours resentment towards after her father robbed his aunt Jan Jenning’s home.

Yet relations thaw between the two when they attend a chilling shout-out and he ends up needing Indie’s help!

High-risk patient Grace Miller (Bryony Miller, Patrick Melrose, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) is in a distressed state when they attend a shout-out at her home.

With the situation looking dangerous, Teddy (Milo Clarke) attempts to break in so they can treat her, however, his heart condition causes him distressing symptoms, which he quickly covers up, leaving it to Indie (Naomi Wakszlack) to take matters into her own hands..

Not only does Indie climbs in a window so they can attend to vulnerable Grace to her own personal endangerment, she also lies to their boss Jan (Di Botcher) afterwards about why she was in the house alone in a potentially dangerous predicament.

Deadly gamble

Later, after their shift has finished, Teddy decides to join Indie and nurses Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell) and Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) for a night out at a new club launching in Holby, to celebrate Indie landing a new job in Sheffield.

Once the booze gets flowing and Indie’s old school friend Badger (Tai Hilferink) turns up with a bag of party pills, Teddy and some of his co-worker friends decide to euphorically dance their troubles away.

However, what they don’t know is, a deadly batch of party pills are doing the rounds in Holby and they’ve just embarked on a game of Russian roulette with their lives.

With Teddy especially vulnerable, due to the resurgence of his heart problems, will he die on what is supposed to be a fun night out? Or will one of the others fall victim to the lethal cocktail?

Also in Casualty this week

The senior medics - clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill), paramedic boss Jan and ED clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) brace themselves for a trinity of trouble with the launch of the new nightclub, Euphoria, coinciding with a music festival and graduation celebrations taking place over the same weekend.

Yet nothing prepares them, and despite their years of experience, they’re shaken to their cores by what they end up facing…

It’s a particularly terrifying shift for Siobhan and Jan, as they’re unable to get hold of the younger medics, who aren’t answering their phones. Also causing Siobhan immense distress is the fact that her son Ben is out celebrating and uncontactable.

As patients flood Holby ED suffering the ill effects of pills laced with deadly synthetic opioids, will some familiar faces be among the dying casualties?

Elsewhere, Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) is placed in a terrible predicament by troubled Cassie Woods (Charlie Ann Upton) when the younger woman brings her deathly ill friend Steph Miles (Evie McGuire) into the ED in need of urgent care.

As Nicole joins the dots, she’s faced with making a choice that could harm the very people she’s trying to care for. Meanwhile, Cassie attempts to protect herself by banning Nicole from attending their foster-mother Maggie’s funeral, which is due to take place the next day.

Meanwhile, Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) considers taking pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary) on an unusual first date. In going against who he really is, has he made a terrible mistake by asking her to go clubbing?

And, last, but very far from least… Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) becomes the prime suspect as the finger of suspicion on who the morphine thief is points firmly at him.

Having worked out that the paramedic could be to blame, what will advanced clinical practitioner Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) do with this information? And will her husband Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) - Jacob’s best friend through thick and thin - support her?

Casualty usually airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and lands on BBC iPlayer at 6 am the same day. The next episode of Casualty won't air until 2 August.

TV’s longest-running medical drama is back for another surgical rotation in the Fall 2025-2026 TV season, with Grey's Anatomy season 22 hitting the airwaves.

After a traumatic Grey's Anatomy season 21 finale (which is almost par for the course at this point), there appear to a few changes on the horizon. We're talking romance shifts, life-or-death medical emergencies for the staff and your usual Grey's heartbreaking moments.

Here's everything we know about Grey's Anatomy season 22.

Grey’s Anatomy season 22 release date

Grey's Anatomy season 22 premieres on Thursday, October 16, at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC.

Grey’s Anatomy is an ABC original series and as such, new episodes air live directly on the broadcast network. For those that have cut ties with traditional cable/satellite television, ABC is available to stream on live TV streaming services such as Fubo, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV. New episodes of the season become available to stream the next day on Hulu.

In the UK, season 22 episodes are expected to stream on Disney Plus.

Here is a synopsis of the original series:

As far as what you can expect in season 22, season 21 left some cliffhangers. Having sold her shares of the hospital but maintaining surgical privleges, how will Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) fit in now that she has a little less authority? Also, will Lucas (Niko Terho) and Simone (Alexis Floyd) be able to get past their "secret" infidelity issue? Heck, are Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) really done? Oh, and we can't possibly forget the explosion. Who survived?

Teddy Gowan plays with Iain’s Dean’s life!

As paramedics Teddy Gowan and Iain Dean begin their first shift with the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) nerves are running high!

Patient Rhys Hindle (John Bowler, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Grantchester) has been urgently flown into Holby Airport from a Marburg Virus outbreak zone with a suspected infection. Suited up in Personal Protection Equipment, Iain (Michael Stevenson) and Teddy (Milo Clarke) are tasked with monitoring him in a portable isolation unit as he’s transported to a London hospital.

The intense situation turns drastic, however, when Rhys suddenly starts fitting and Teddy becomes convinced he’s not suffering from Marburg. On impulse, the younger medic opens the sealed chamber to stop their patient choking to death, only for Iain to be directly exposed to Rhys’s bodily fluids.

Terrifying test results

Moments later HART leader Tim Matthews (Ross Waiton) radios through that the test results confirm Marburg, and Teddy realises the cause of Rhys’s seizure… He’s swallowed balloons containing drugs!

With Rhys deteriorating rapidly, the ambulance is diverted to Holby ED, where Teddy and Iain are subjected to rigorous decontamination protocol. Before long, remorseful Teddy is declared infection free but it’s an agonising waiting game for Iain and his terrified wife, advanced clinical practitioner Faith (Kirsty Mitchell).

‘There’s a lot more drama to come!’ teases Michael Stevenson, who plays Iain. ‘Relationships will be tested and poor Teddy got things of his own going…’

Jacob’s nightmare

There’s heartache for paramedic Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) after his son Blake Gardner (David Ajayi) arrives at Holby ED in a state of distress. Blake believes his baby son Carter is ill, but doctor Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) and nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) are more concerned about the anxious father’s mental state.

Realising that the root of the problem may be a change in his schizophrenic medication due to drug shortages, Jacob has a confession to make… He’s been buying Blake’s tablets online from an unofficial website.

Desperate to resolve the issue, Jacob pays a visit to pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary), who reveals Blake’s usual meds won’t be available for six months!

Jacob’s only option is to get an expensive private prescription, but given that he’s already supporting his son and grandson, how will he afford it?

Advanced clinical practitioner Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) has the shift from hell on so many levels this week.

When she’s ushered into a private meeting with clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill), clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) and consultant Dylan Keogh (William Beck), she’s given the shocking news about Iain’s life of death predicament.

Meanwhile, Rhys’s wife Pippa (Caroline O'Neill, Queer as Folk, Endeavour), realising they’ve been rumbled, spills the beans on how her husband was forced to become a drug mule and turns to Faith for support.

Not wanting to be far from her husband, poor Faith ends up comforting an unpredictable Pippa, while suffering in silence about the personal pain she’s going through…

Elsewhere, Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) has thrown herself into sobriety and attended seven support group meetings in seven days. Dylan kindly offers to become her sponsor, but she hesitates to accept his offer.

Then later, while treating patient Abel Varga (Aaron Hodgetts, House of the Dragon, Phoenix Rise), who has been subjected to horrific and tortuous conversion methods by a ‘doctor’ hired by his hateful mother Dee (Emma Cater, Strike, Get Millie Black) she’s pushed to personal breaking point.

After all her hard work, will Ngozi relapse, or push through to another phase of her recovery?

Clinical lead and former special forces medic Flynn Byron impressively leaps into action this week when Iain and Teddy’s ambulance is diverted to Holby ED. Sadly for him, however, his cool head in a crisis moment is outshone by the gossip surrounding his Casanova antics which are spreading around the hospital like wildfire!

Will the rumours wreck his professional reputation?

Paramedic Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) gets an interview for a position in Sheffield and, while she’s upset at the thought of leaving Holby, she’s delighted when Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) offers to coach her over a drink in The Anchor. Will she open up about her feelings?

And finally, Sunny and Rash realise they share a love of chess - now, who will make the first move so they can play in real life?

There’s a Casualty-sized hole in the Saturday night TV schedules on July 5 2025, as BBC One gives way to Wimbledon 2025.

The tennis tournament began on Monday, 30 June, with BBC One, BBC Two and BBC iPlayer serving up live coverage.

Saturday marks day six of the broadcaster’s extensive coverage of the prestigious grass-court competition from the All England Club, where matches in the third round of the men's and ladies' singles are scheduled to take place. Clare Balding presents from 7.15pm until 10pm on BBC One.

Meanwhile, back in Holby, it’s all to play for…

In the previous Casualty outing, Supply and Demand - Episode 3, it was revealed that paramedic Iain Dean had been contacted by a local hospice concerning his absentee and alcoholic mother, Kim Harrison.

Kim was first introduced to the BBC medical drama in February 2017 during a Casualty episode called Binge Britain, where Iain ended up treating his mother after attending a shout-out regarding a drunken woman who’d fallen down a stairwell.

At that time, Iain hadn’t seen his mum in eight years. He was shocked to discover that Kim (played by Siân Reeves, Cutting It, Emmerdale, Mount Pleasant) was trying to escape loan sharks at the time of her accident and his little sister Gem (Rebecca Ryan, Shameless, Waterloo Road, Coronation Street) had been released from prison that same day.

From then on, Kim went on to wreak havoc in the medic’s life until her departure in March 2019, as Iain hit rock bottom after a series of tragic events, which culminated in the much-loved medic taking steps to end his own life.

No doubt, the return of Kim to life in the present day will bring up a lot of difficult memories for fan-favourite Iain Dean.

Speaking to What To Watch, Michael Stevenson told us that the phone call from the hospice is: “something Iain’s been expecting and has subconsciously swept under the carpet. Not only does it affect that day’s training, it affects him going forward.”

When will Casualty be back on?

Casualty returns to its Saturday night slot on BBC One on July 12, 2025 at 8.50 pm, when it will pick back up with Iain as he attempts to come to terms with what he’s just learned about his mum while he and Teddy are both exposed to danger on shift.

Elsewhere, nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) battles temptation at work and paramedic Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) faces a dead end in trying to help his son.

Meanwhile, the drug crisis flooding Holby continues to put pressure on emergency resources in this fourth instalment of Supply and Demand.

In Casualty’s Supply and Demand - Episode 3 paramedic Iain Dean is shaken to the core after receiving a phone call confirming him as next of kin for an unknown person. Later, when talking to his wife Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) it becomes clear that his mum, Kim Harrison, is receiving end-of-life care at Willow Hill Hospice, but he is uncertain whether he wants to see her or not.

With his little sister Gemma (previously played by Shameless star Rebecca Ryan) now living in Thailand, it looks like Iain is feeling fresh responsibility towards his abusive, alcoholic mother Kim (previously played by Emmerdale star Siân Reeves).

Speaking to What to Watch earlier this month, Michael Stevenson, who plays the conflicted medic, has revealed that this news, “affects Iain going forward.” Full interview available here

How would you describe Kim, who was originally introduced during Casualty episode Binge Britain back in February 2017?

“She was horrible and not only did Iain have the horribleness of his mum but the aftermath of what she did to him in later episodes sparked off his depression and suicide storyline. There was a moment all those years ago, where all he wanted was for her to tell him she loved him and give him a hug. She didn’t and threw it back in his face, telling him that he was an attention seeker and had always been an attention seeker, sparking off a catalyst of horrible times for him. That ‘if it wasn't for her’ moment gets revisited, whether you see it physically or as he’s dealing with it mentally.”

Paramedic Iain Dean embarks on a new chapter of his career when he joins the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) for a decisive training session, but will a ghost from the past derail his hopes and dreams?

This week, Iain (Michael Stevenson) is excited to be training alongside HART. He's also determined to impress team leader Tim Matthews (Ross Waiton, The Devil’s Hour) and dead-set on landing a permanent placement with the high-risk medics… Despite his wife Faith’s anxieties about the dangers involved!

Friendly competition

As Iain and fellow paramedic Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) - who is also looking for a new challenge - prepare to be put through their paces, HART expert Tim explains that he will be testing their physical and mental fitness. He also warns them that if they fail any part of the course, they’re out!

The pair get off to a competitive start, however, Iain’s many years of experience shine through initially. Yet, his confidence and focus are suddenly shattered when he answers a mystery phone call just before a task involving toxic chemicals!

Distracted, Iain fails to hear Tim’s instructions as he begins the course’s crucial final task, with devastating consequences…

“When Iain receives the phone call it's a blast from the past - and something he’s subconsciously swept under the carpet. Not only does it affect that day’s training, it affects him going forward,” teases Michael Stevenson, who plays him, during an exclusive interview with WTW. “There’s still a lot we don’t know about Iain and why he is the way he is. A lot of relationships are going to be fractured…”

Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) spirals when she wakes up beside a stranger and attempts to perform damage control with her son, Obi (terrific young actor Aryel Tsoto), after leaving him home alone overnight. He’s not buying her version of events however, and things nosedive from there…

What follows is a make-or-break shift, made worse by a banging hangover, a blazing row with her ex, Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson), and a dreadful patient mistake.

Will the tinned pina coladas in her handbag prove impossible to resist?

Rida Amaan starts her first shift as a Band 6 nurse and she’s given a warm welcome by her colleagues. Clinical nurse manager, Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill), however, has some words of advice - don’t be afraid to put your foot down.

Soon Rida (Sarah Seggari) realises the value of Siobhan’s wisdom when close pal and housemate Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell) fails to accept that she’s in charge.

How will Jodie react when Rida pushes back?

Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) has something serious on his mind… Watch this space for a shock new storyline for the paramedic!

It seems to be a day for unwanted phone calls... Nicole is unimpressed when she is contacted by Obi's school. Is he okay?

Meanwhile, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) suspects that Ngozi may not be fit for duty and requests permission to perform a breathalyser test. She reluctantly agrees… What will the results say? And will Dylan be forced to take official action?

With the drug crisis showing no signs of abating, Dylan has an idea about easing the stress on the ED, which also may save lives. However, when he takes a course of immediate action in relation to a particularly vulnerable patient, clinical lead Flynn Bryon (Olly Rix) is fuming!

What has Dylan done? Is he justified? And are the two medics headed for another altercation? (Ahh go on, it makes for good watching!)

And, finally, Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) is a tower of support for Iain when he later tells her about the call he received during his HART training, which is good news for fans of the newlyweds, as the paramedic is headed into a complex and emotional storyline…

Elinor Lawless admits that her fiercely independent and much-loved Casualty character, Stevie Nash, has been through a lot in recent months. After the death of her partner Rich Walker (Michael Keogh) in February, the doctor experienced a false-positive pregnancy test, which led to a cancer diagnosis.

“Stevie has been battered by the fates,” says Elinor when she joins us for an exclusive interview. “I've never felt her to be as scared as she is in this storyline. For the first time, she is really terrified - and she hates being afraid."

Now, having recovered from major surgery and completed chemotherapy treatment, Stevie returns to Holby ED in Casualty’s Supply and Demand - Episode 2. But there's no such thing as a gentle launch, as the doctor is plunged into Holby’s drug crisis, while dealing with complex, private emotions.

Working more closely with her friend from medical school, clinical lead Flynn Bryon (Olly Rix), seems to help bring her back to herself a little. However, then he has to go and spoil it all!

After becoming the first must-see TV show of 2025, The Pitt season 2 is clocking in for another shift.

The intense medical drama that quickly became a hit on HBO Max (previously just Max). According to an official release from the streamer, The Pitt has consistently been in the top three most-watched titles globally since its debut. That combined with the show’s 95% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes make it a bona fide hit. It could also be landing a handful of Emmy nominations when they are announced in July.

If you’re excited to watch The Pitt season 2, read on for everything you need to know about it, including the timeframe for when you can expect the new season to premiere.

The Pitt season 2 release date

While there is not a confirmed release date, The Pitt season 2 will premiere in January 2026, according to an official press release. Episodes are expected to release weekly, just as The Pitt season 1 did.

The first season premiered on Thursday, January 9. So if it sticks with a Thursday release, then the possible dates for The Pitt season 2’s premiere are January 8, January 15, January 22 and January 29.

You will need to be a HBO Max subscriber in order to watch The Pitt season 2 when it premieres. In the meantime, you can catch up with the entire first season on-demand on HBO Max.

If you are not currently a HBO Max subscriber and are not sure you want to add another streaming service to your monthly budget for The Pitt, you will have the opportunity to check out the series on basic cable this fall. TNT is going to air all 15 episodes of The Pitt season 1 in fall 2025 (premiere date unclear at this time), though it is expected to just about lead into The Pitt season 2’s premiere. TNT is available through traditional pay-TV providers and live TV streaming services.

Unfortunately, The Pitt is not currently available to watch in the UK.

The Pitt season 2 cast

Noah Wyle leads The Pitt as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, the head of the ER at a Pittsburgh hospital. Wyle has plenty of experience playing a doctor, as his breakout role came in the long-running NBC series ER. Wyle is also known for starring in The Librarian franchise (though not the most recent The Librarians: The Next Chapter) and Leverage: Redemption.

But the show is very much an ensemble drama. Confirmed cast members outside of Wyle include Ken Kirby, reprising his role as Dr. John Shen, as he is featured in the lone image from the second season with Wyle. A new addition has also been shared by The Wrap, with Sepideh Moafi (Black Bird) playing an as yet unnamed attending physician.

As the show follows single shifts, it stands to reason that not all of the characters we saw in season 1 might be on the shift that is the focus of the season.

Whether that is the case for Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Harris, or not, another report from The Wrap revealed that she won't be returning for The Pitt season 2.

It will be curious what notable cast members from season 1 do return. Will we see any combination of Patrick Ball as Dr. Langdon, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Mohan, Fiona Dourif as Dr. McKay, Taylor Dearden as Dr. King, Isa Briones as Dr. Santos, Gerran Howell as Whitaker and Shabana Azeez as Javadi?

For characters like LaNasa’s Evans and Ball’s Langdon, their storylines left off very much up in the air with whether or not they’d be back at the hospital.

The Pitt season 2 plot

Like the cast, an official synopsis for The Pitt season 2 is not available at this time. What we do know is that the season will follow another shift in the hospital, depicted in real time, and according to reports it will pick up 10 months after the events of the first season, taking place over the Fourth of July weekend.

Here is the synopsis for the general show:

“The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.”

The Pitt season 2 behind the scenes

In addition to starring in the series, Wyle is also an executive producer on The Pitt. Joining him in that role is series creator R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells (who was also a producer on ER), Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow and Simran Baidwan. John Wells Productions produces the show in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The Pitt season 2 is filming interior scenes on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif., while exterior shots are being done on location in Pittsburgh.

Stevie Nash is back! But all is not well…

Stevie Nash feels ready to ease herself back into work this week following her chemotherapy treatment - but unfortunately for the consultant, the timing is terrible.

On her first day back, Stevie (Elinor Lawless) finds herself in the middle of Holby City’s drug crisis. And, adding to the pressure, clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) throws her into the deep end.

Prior to her first shift, a cancer professional queries whether it’s too soon for her to be returning, but Stevie admits she’s excited to return.

However, something the doctor is keeping to herself, is that she’s experiencing peripheral myopathy.

“It’s a common side effect of some chemo drugs and causes her hands to feel like they’re on fire, which constantly reminds Stevie that she was sick,” Elinor Lawless tells us in an exclusive interview, adding: “In terms of Stevie’s recovery, it’s way too soon for her to return, but she needs it to feel normal…”

Grim reality

The Holby emergency services face a crisis quite unlike anything in their history, as overdose victims suffering the effects of laced drugs, coupled with a shortage of life-saving medications, sees bodies literally piling up in the ED.

As a result, Flynn ends up leaving Stevie alone in resus, dealing with the disaster when he’s called away… Is he expecting too much too soon?

Flynn hearts Stevie?

Later in the episode, Flynn joins Stevie on her daily swim where she opens up to him about how she’s feeling about being labelled as a warrior when she believes she's anything but.

Flynn - who is now openly indulging in extra-curricular dalliances since the breakdown of his marriage to wife Claire - takes this rekindled closeness with his former medical student pal as a signal to make a move.

Casualty has released the trailer for its new 12-part storyline, Supply and Demand, and it looks like tight-knit relationships, teams and even marriages may be left broken in the latest instalment of BBC’s long-running medical drama.

Picking up three months after the events in the previous 12-part miniseries, Internal Affairs, it’s clear that viewers are in for some shocking scenes in the near future.

Iain Dean rocks the boat

Front and centre at the drama is Iain Dean, played by Michael Stevenson and if you’ve read this week’s WTW spoilers, you already know that the paramedic is involved in a daring crane rescue, which leads to a decision about his career that affects those closest to him.

In the trailer, it’s revealed that Iain has a new emergency role and a new team leader. But what does this mean for his paramedic family?

An accompanying BBC press release explains: “A daring crane rescue leads to personal tensions in the paramedic team reaching boiling point, leaving everyone wondering who they can trust, as questions are raised about Iain’s future.”

A shortage of drugs causes chaos

The trailer highlights that Supply and Demand will be dealing with a drug crisis, both legal and illegal, in Holby City, with unimaginable knock on effects for all concerned.

The press release says: “This gripping new twelve-parter delves into the harrowing realities of a drug crisis. An interruption to the illegal drug supply chain puts pressure on the entire Emergency Department, who are also under strain from clinical drugs shortages. Whilst addicts scour the streets, hospital medics struggle to fill prescriptions.”

An explanation of why Nicole dumped Ngozi?

One of the most shocking moments in Internal Affair’s finale Non-Disclosure was when Doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) broke up with her girlfriend Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) after the nurse revealed she was an alcoholic and had fallen off the wagon.

The trailer provides some clues to Nicole’s reasons, as she can be heard saying to an unseen character: “I escaped the chaos and I won’t open my door to it again,” followed by a scene where she’s seen kissing the forehead of a woman in a bodybag…

The press release adds further weight to this theory: “Ngozi and Nicole confront the devastating emotional legacy of addiction.”

Teddy Gowan leaving?

Paramedic Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) can be heard telling someone that, “I need to get out of this, it’s not like there’s much of a team…” overlaying scenes of bodies on the streets and a shot of him in a nightclub looking disorientated. Could this spell the end of his time in Holby? And if so, who is going to tell his auntie Jan Jenning (Di Botcher)?

From the press release: “As the series unfolds, viewers will witness the poignant toll on the paramedics as they grapple with their own personal demons while striving to save others.”

Does Stevie Nash have a new admirer?

Consultant Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) is back at work following her chemotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer and seems she’s caught the eye of clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix).

Is Flynn teeing up a kiss while they’re sharing an intimate moment in a swimming pool? Do they have an unexplored history going back to their years in medical school together? Shouldn’t Flynn be working on repairing his marriage? Who’s looking after the ED? So many questions!

Closest relationships are on the rocks

And last, but certainly not least… The trailer indicates that Iain accuses his best friend, Jacob Masters (Charles Venn), of stealing drugs, while the paramedic angrily tells him to look closer to home - namely blaming Iain’s recovering drug addict wife Faith Cadogan for the theft! But if that’s the case, why can Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) be heard telling Iain that if he doesn’t inform Jan, she will?

This is followed by a scene with Jacob in tears while someone, who looks very much like Iain, is having a terrible fit as an emergency team works on saving him!

With this storyline involving so many Casualty favourites we’ve got emotional whiplash - and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Additional stories to keep an eye out for…

Other snippets in the trailer include a scene involving armed police storming a building, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) supporting Ngozi and standing up to Flynn, and Flynn weeping by a hospital bedside while Dylan comforts him.

The press release hints: “Flynn struggles to connect with his daughters amid the chaos of the emergency department, while Supply and Demand promises to be a powerful exploration of the human spirit in the face of adversity, tackling themes of addiction, teamwork, and the pursuit of hope.”

Iain Dean climbs new heights

Iain Dean isn’t backward in coming forward as Casualty’s new 12-part storyline Supply and Demand gets underway.

Three months have passed since paramedic Iain (Michael Stevenson) and advanced practitioner Faith Cadogan’s wedding - but it looks like their honeymoon period is about to come to an abrupt end!

This week, Iain’s determined to reunite the fractured paramedic team following trainee Indie Jankowski’s confession that her father burgled Jan Jenning’s home. Yet, despite Iain’s best efforts, boss Jan (Di Botcher) reveals there are no vacancies for Indie (Naomi Wakszlak)once she graduates, and tensions continue to simmer…

Personal issues are shelved, however, due to an emergency at Holby’s docks. There, Iain and Indie face a horrifying scene of fallen containers and multiple injuries, while crane operator Hassan ‘Haz’ Bohra (Sonny Michael Chohan) drifts in and out of consciousness. With the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) delayed, heroic Iain climbs the crane without a harness in 40-mile-per-hour winds!

Trouble and strife

Although Iain manages to save Haz, Jan and HART leader Tim Matthews (Ross Waiton, Skyfall, Vera) are furious with his recklessness when they arrive on the scene. Meanwhile, back at Holby ED, Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) learns that her new husband risked his life for a stranger - again!

How will the mum-of-three react when Iain later reveals he’s made a shock career decision?

Indie impresses Iain while treating an overdose patient in a nightclub’s toilets so much that he decides to go to bat for her and attempt to heal the rift with Jan. But despite having Iain in her corner, Indie’s failure to properly stock critical meds prior to the crane rescue later comes back to haunt the trainee paramedic…

During the shout-out at the docks, Indie makes a shock discovery among fallen pallets of dolls when she realises they’re filled with drugs. After the shift, she basks in glory as the press hail her a ‘hero paramedic’ until Jan brings her back to earth, having discovered Indie failed to properly fill the paramedic response bags before the critical shout out.

Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) is relieved as her chemotherapy sessions draw to a close and the doctor informs clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) that she plans to return to work in a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, Flynn is very complimentary of Stevie’s new look and in a bright mood as he prepares to spend the weekend with his daughters.

However, his best laid plans crumble after pharmacist Sunny Callahan (Jamie Marie Leary, River City, Ralph & Katie) informs him that the hospital is facing a dire shortage of essential medications.

Will he choose work or family at this critical time?

Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) worries about availability for medication taken by his son, Blake.

Elsewhere, Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) experiences an acute case of chemistry-at-first-sight when he meets hospital pharmacist Sunny and they click. As he reaches a personal milestone, could this herald a new beginning for the doctor?

Nicole is disgusted when she overhears a hungover Ngozi throwing up in the toilets and tells her to go home. Later, during a chaotic period during their shift, patient Jimmy Riley (Matt Brewer) falls through the cracks with serious repercussions for the vulnerable man. Both medics are hauled into Siobhan McKenzie’s (Melanie Hill) office where the clinical nurse manager and doctor Dylan Keogh (William Beck) demand answers, only for the two hurt women to turn on each other!

As Casualty chapter Internal Affairs comes to a close this week, it’s no secret that guest star Robert Bathurst is bowing out of the show. But don't worry, Teflon-like surgeon Russell Whitelaw is not getting a quiet exit.

Initially introduced to BBC1’s medical drama earlier this year as a skilled surgeon with old-fashioned charm, Russell’s true nature was revealed to viewers after he sexually assaulted nurse Rida Amaan (played by Sarah Seggari) before going on to physically attack her when she attempted to record him confessing to his crimes.

Now, after weeks of abuse and bullying, Rida bravely breaks her silence despite signing an NDA. Yet, whether remorseless Russell manages to sneer his way out of repercussions remains to be seen.

Casualty star Olly Rix has emerged as a possible candidate to play the next James Bond.

The ex-Call the Midwife actor has been put in the running to take over from Daniel Craig by none other than Al Pacino and his filmmaker daughter Julie.

The pair are currently working on a project where they're commissioning photographs of actors they think could potentially be the next Bond.

Reacting to the James Bond rumours, Olly, who plays Casualty's Flynn Byron, said on BBC's Morning Live: "I think I probably owe that to Al Pacino and Julie Pacino they’re coming to the UK at the end of the summer and they're big fans of the franchise and the role.

“And Julie is going to do a photographic portfolio of 15 guys she thinks could maybe inherit that role and she’s spoken about it with her father. And I was included on that list, which is very flattering.

"And it’s pretty lovely when you just get a random call which says Al Pacino has been talking about you with his daughter, do you want to be in this project. You think Al Pacino, he’s one of the reasons I wanted to be an actor. It's pretty awesome."

He added: "See what happens."

Olly though is still very much an outsider to play Bond, with Kick-Ass actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson the firm favourite. Other actors linked to the role include Henry Cavill, Theo James, and Jack Lowden.

However, no one knows for sure who’ll be cast, and being linked to the part can't do Olly any harm.

It’s now four years since Daniel Craig bowed out of the part in No Time To Die. It really does seem to be about time the makers got on with it and cast the next Bond.

Meanwhile, Olly can be seen in Casualty, which continues this Saturday at 8.40 pm on BBC One.

When Sarah Seggari made her Casualty debut as straight-talking yet compassionate nurse Rida Amaan two years ago, she never imagined that her character would now be at the heart of one of the most hard-hitting storylines to date in the BBC1 medical drama.

Rida Amaan’s fight for justice…

Sadly this week, Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) is a shell of her former self and contemplating leaving Holby following harrowing sexual and physical attacks by surgeon Russell Whitelaw.

As the BBC medical drama’s latest 12-part miniseries Internal Affairs culminates, Rida is called into a meeting with HR boss Christine Barker (Caroline Sheen) and handed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to sign.

Feeling utterly defeated she takes some time to decide whether or not to accept it and a settlement and quit the job she loves if it means Russel (Robert Bathurst) also leaves under the guide of taking early retirement.

There’s a twist in the tale, however, after trainee paramedic Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) crashes an ambulance into Holby ED.

All hands on deck

The team springs into action and soon both Russell and Rida’s surgical expertise are desperately needed.

Rida bravely agrees to work alongside her abuser, as one last job before leaving, impressing everyone around her.

Yet, later, she makes a shocking discovery about Russell that leaves her reeling…

Speaking exclusively to What To Watch Sarah tells us: “Fundamentally, Rida always wants to do the right thing, however, this shows that when you’re pushed, you can get into situations you never expected. It’s the morning after Iain Dean and Faith Cadogan’s wedding, and more than one member of staff is suffering the effects of a big night. But, none more so than nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni).

While clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) is accepting no excuses and offering very little sympathy, doctor Dylan Keogh (William Beck) is deeply concerned. He alone knows that Ngozi is an alcoholic and that her hangover means she’s fallen off the wagon…

He offers support and encourages Ngozi to open up to girlfriend, doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson). At first Ngozi resists but after struggling through the shift, she decides to take his advice and talk to an unsuspecting Nicole.

How will Nicole react to Ngozi’s confession?

Not only is Holby ED short staffed, but there's a widespread vomiting outbreak linked to food poisoning putting them under enormous pressure.

Indie is working well with paramedic boss Jan Jenning (Di Botcher) and on a call to a seafood restaurant the pair discover the source of the problem - and a lot more drama besides!

Later, however, they’re facing an altogether different nightmare when the accelerator on the dilapidated ambulance Indie’s driving jams and she’s forced to crash into the A&E entrance at high speed.

The fallout is immediate, tragic and catastrophic…

Elsewhere, Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) runs into a couple of familiar faces when she undergoes her first round of chemotherapy treatment. How will the doctor feel when she ends up spending time with Adele and Leah Thompson while privately struggling?

Regular viewers will remember that Steve treated and diagnosed Leah with cancer in Casualty’s Christmas episode All I Want for Christmas. Here, actors Mia Millichamp-Long and Lucy-Jo Hudson make a welcome return as Leah and Adele. Fingers crossed they can offer comfort to Stevie…

Stevie Nash is MIA on Faith and Iain's big day!

Faith Cadogan is a bag of nerves on the morning of her wedding to paramedic Iain Dean - but it has nothing to do with the bride getting cold feet!

Advanced clinical practitioner Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) is worried that her best friend and maid of honour Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) won’t be by her side following their recent fallout.

With Stevie not answering Faith’s calls, groom Iain (Michael Stevenson) secretly decides to pay the doctor a house call to persuade her to attend.

Stevie down and out

Meanwhile, Stevie is struggling with surgical menopausal symptoms following her hysterectomy, ignores Faith’s calls, and decides to take a cold shower.

Yet, disaster strikes when the medic passes out in the freezing water.

Iain turns up and pounds on the door, but unfortunately, he can’t hear Stevie’s faint cries for help, due to her music playing at full blast.

Fortunately, just as he’s about to leave, there's a gap in her bangin’ tunes…

Iain to the rescue

Whether on duty or going for a walk, the loveable paramedic is no stranger to saving people in distress - so why would his wedding day be any different?

On hearing Stevie’s in trouble he bursts into her flat and springs into rescue mode!

Once warmed up, Stevie reveals that she’s bailing on her maid of honour duties, and Iain better get going soon before he’s late for his own wedding.

Iain, however, manages to get Stevie to open up about her upcoming chemotherapy sessions and convinces her to stand by Faith’s side.

But the drama doesn’t end there - at the reception Stevie hits the free booze in a big way and presses her in-built self-destruct button!

Will her out-of-order actions have very real repercussions for Iain and Faith’s relationship and Stevie’s friendship with the couple?

Stevie isn’t the only guest guaranteed to wake up after the party with a hangover to beat the band and a bellyful of regrets. Those in question will most likely want to draw a veil over their actions, but we doubt the scriptwriters will oblige!

Keep a close eye on Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) especially, who attends the wedding party without her girlfriend Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson). After a stressful shift, will she give into dangerous temptations?

Also worth watching this week is Indie Jankowski. We don’t want to give too much away, but there are shocking scenes when the trainee paramedic must choose between protecting her father Samuel (Martin Hancock) or her paramedic family. Where will her loyalties lie?

And finally, not everyone is whooping it up at Mr & Mrs Dean’s wedding. At the hospital, Russell Whitelaw (Robert Bathurst) resorts to blackmail and bribery, which leads to a major dilemma for his cheating son-in-law Flynn Byron (Olly Rix). Meanwhile devastated nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) is forced to relive Russell’s assault for a HR investigation.

Rida Amaan in horror attack

Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) faces her worst nightmare this week when she’s subject to a horrific assault at the hands of Russell Whitelaw.

Nasty Russell (Robert Bathurst) has been getting away with bullying and assaulting female colleagues for years thanks to his powerful connections and godlike reputation. But the nurse is on a mission to expose the surgeon’s monstrous behaviour…

Last week Rida anonymously released a list of predatory surgeons before going on to defend Russell in front of her shocked female coworkers - but it was all a ploy to gain his trust!

Now she plans to secretly record the senior medic saying something incriminating about sexually assaulting her last month. Yet, Rida’s scheme is scuppered when her registrar boyfriend, Sean Redmond (Seth Somers), discovers that she released the list - that included his name - and tips Russell off.

Furious, Russell gets Rida alone and reveals he knows what she’s up to. Then, when he then realises she’s recording him, he attacks her. During the struggle to get her phone, Russell inadvertently rips off Rida’s head scarf, leaving her distraught in harrowing scenes…

Flynn betrays his feelings

Holby ED clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is determined to put his best foot forward as he prepares to attend a Healthcare Security Committee to secure money for the department.

Yet, while still at home, he has a tiff with his wife Claire (Elisabeth Hopper), who is appalled at the media frenzy surrounding her father, and wants Flynn to support him.

Annoyed, Flynn leaves the house and sends Holby West councillor Anna Mills (Alicia Charles) a message inviting her for a drink after the meeting.

But, quickly, extra marital time with Anna is the last thing on his mind! When he arrives at the council building, Flynn discovers she’s been stabbed in a horrifically violent attack and is fighting for her life.

Flynn leaps into action and begins treating Anna, but it’s clear to everyone who knows him - including attending paramedics Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) and Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke), and doctor Dylan Keogh (William Beck) at the ED - that Flynn is extremely emotionally invested in this particular patient.

Will Anna die?

After a fraught day, Flynn decides to call up to Russell, who performed emergency surgery on Anna, only to walk in on the aftermath of Russell’s attack on Rida.

Will he do the right thing and report his father-in-law? Or will Russell succeed in blackmailing his cheating son-in-law into silence?

Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) reveals that he’s yet to pick a best man for his wedding to Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell).

With the big day approaching fast, Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) proposes a ‘RuPaul Stag Race’ style competition to help him choose between pals Teddy and Jacob, Iain jumps at the idea…

Elsewhere, Waterloo Road star Philip Martin Brown guest stars as grumpy patient Mr Brook, who is booked in for a hernia operation. The character isn’t a million miles away from his much-loved teacher character Grantly Budgen in the long-running school drama. But it remains to be seen whether his previous on-screen wife, played by Melanie Hill - who now stars in Casualty as clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie - will pop in to say hello!

And, finally, Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) is faced with two very different cases this week,

The first involves a woman called Alice suffering from a mysterious sensation in her ear and begs for his help. Without giving too much away, let’s just say this one’s got legs!

Later, he faces a much more complex situation when teenager Libby Evans is readmitted to the ED with burns to her arm. Since he last treated Libby (Layla Simmons), the schoolgirl has become distrustful of the adults in her life - thanks to Flynn reporting her to social services against Rash’s advice.

Still believing Rash made the call, Libby and her foster mum Lisa Melling (Sarah Ridgeway, The Chelsea Detective) are furious with the doctor - until he steps up for Libby in a most un-Rashlike way. Remember that scene in the Internal Affairs trailer where he lashes out at an unknown man? Let’s just say, the full story plays out in this episode.

Unfortunately for Rash, however, Flynn witnesses the entire thing. Will he use this as an excuse to push Rash towards the exit doors?

Why is Casualty not on?

The drama is taking a planned break due to live coverage of the Grand Final of the Eurovision 2025, which is airing on BBC1 from 8pm.

The 69th Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Basel, Switzerland, following Nemo’s victory at the Grand Final in May 2024 with their song The Code.

Flying the flag for the UK this year are Remember Monday with their song What The Hell Just Happened? The British country pop group trio - friends Charlotte Steele, Holly-Anne Hull and Lauren Byrne - have a reputation for strong vocals and smooth blended harmonies and What The Hell Just Happened? chronicles the aftermath of a wild night out. Remember Monday co-wrote the song with Billen Ted (Tom Hollings and Sam Brennan), Thomas Stengaard and Julie 'Kill J' Aagaard.

When is Casualty back on?

Casualty is expected to return to our screens on Saturday, May 24 and will pick up from the previous episode, Save Yourself, which saw Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) unleash a cunning but dangerous plan to expose her abuser, surgeon Russell Whitelaw (Robert Bathurst).

When the series resumes with the 10th instalment of the current Internal Affairs boxset, Rida suffers a traumatic day when Mr Whitelaw’s mask begins to slip, Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) fights to save Anna’s life, Rash defends a patient, and Indie helps Iain on a special mission.

Other big Internal Affairs storylines to look forward in the near future, as outlined in the recent trailer, include: Faith and Iain tying the knot, doctor Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) attacking an unknown man, and an ambulance crashing into the department, causing serious damage to the entrance of Holby ED.

It’s no mystery, Watson on CBS is a hit. And as a result, TV fans are getting Watson season 2.

The medical drama/mystery show that offers a new spin on the classic literary character Dr. John Watson, played by Morris Chestnut, wound up being a top 10 broadcast TV show in its inaugural season. According to a report from Nielsen measuring multiplatform viewing across 35 days, Watson was the seventh most watched show on TV, tied with fellow CBS show Elsbeth. It was also one of five shows in its first season to crack the top 10, joining Matlock, High Potential, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Shifting Gears.

Watson will look to build off that with season 2, but what lies in store for the good doctor? Here’s everything we know about Watson season 2 right now.

Watson season 2 release date

Watson season 2 premieres on CBS on Monday, October 13, at 10 pm ET/PT. It will share Monday nights with comedies The Neighborhood and DMV, and crime drama FBI.

This marks a couple of changes for Watson. First, the show moves from airing on Sundays as its first season did to airing on Mondays. It also brings the second season to fans much sooner, as previously CBS planned to debut Watson season 2 in the second half of the 2025-2026 TV season.

If you want to catch up with season 1 prior to the return of season 2, Watson is streaming exclusively on Paramount Plus (subscription required).

Watson season 2 cast

Morris Chestnut leads the cast of Watson as the titular doctor, Sherlock Holmes’ former partner, who has started his life anew as the head of a medical facility.

Other cast members for Watson season 2 are Eve Harlow as Dr. Ingrid Derian, Peter Mark Kendall as both Stephens Croft and Adams Croft, Inga Schlingmann as Dr. Sasha Lubbock, Ritchie Coster as Shinwell Johnson and Rochelle Aytes as Dr. Mary Morstan.

According to Variety, one new cast member for Watson season 2 is going to be Robert Carlyle, who will have a recurring guest role as Sherlock Holmes.

Watson season 2 plot

(SPOILER alert, as we’re going to discuss some plot details from the Watson season 1 finale).

We don’t have an official synopsis for what is to come in Watson season 2, though fans can expect the series to continue with its case-of-the-week format alongside some overarching plotlines throughout the season.

In terms of the latter, there are a couple of things we can infer from the Watson season 1 finale. One being the Croft brothers both survived their medical scares, and both appear to now be in relationships — Adams with Lauren and Stephens with Sasha. Meanwhile, Ingrid may be starting next season on the outside of the medical team, as her actions that helped Moriarty and put the Crofts in danger are now known (even though she confessed and worked to bring Moriarty down).

Speaking of Moriarty (Randall Park), barring a major surprise, his time on the show may be up after Watson saw to it that he did not recover from an illness.

Watson season 2 behind the scenes

Craig Sweeney is the showrunner on Watson and also serves as an executive producer on the show alongside Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD; Aaron Kaplan and Brian Morewitz. The show is a CBS Studios production.

Casualty fans have voiced their concerns over one character's actions. During the latest instalment of Casualty of the 'Internal Affairs' storyline (which aired Saturday, 10th May 2025), viewers saw Rida grapple with reporting an incident of sexual assault by her colleague, Russell.

To expose Russell's actions, Rida decided to make an online group exposing misconduct by surgeons public.

But some fans had concerns over Rida's latest move.

'Oh Rida... You're playing a dangerous game. But, err, as a newbie group member, surely she shouldn't have had the the admin rights to make this problematic surgeons list public?' wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

While another said, 'I just knew Rida couldn't be trusted with Nicole's private Group Chat. Second she's in that's Cam and Jodie told.'

Meanwhile, another fan of the BBC medical drama wrote, 'I see, Rida is playing the long game.

While another said, 'If this isn’t part of Rida stitching up Russell in some way I’ve gone right off her.'

While another questioned, 'Why was Rida smirking? Shouldn't she have backed Nicole? I'm confused.'

The episode also made some viewers question Rida's motives, with another writing, 'This is why I don't like Rida. Shes very righteous but she's actually quite selfish too, and not a very nice person.'

Meanwhile another said, backing Rida up, 'Rida is the sweetest.'

Speaking about the emotive storyline, Sarah Seggari previously told Metro: "It’s only going to be more explosive. It’s going to have some twists and turns I really don’t think you’ll be expecting. It was a joy to film.

"You’ll see a very different side of Rida that we haven’t seen in the two years she’s been on telly. That was really fun to play."

Casualty fans agree that one key character in the show 'always shines', naming Dylan Keogh as the firm fan favourite.

During the latest instalment of Casualty of the 'Internal Affairs' storyline (which aired Saturday, 10th May 2025), we saw Rida, a newly trained nurse, struggling to report misconduct within the ED.

But it was a character who wasn't as embroiled in the drama that got viewers talking on social media.

'Whether Dylan is in an episode for 20secs, 2minutes or 20minutes, William Beck always shines as Dylan,' wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

While another simply said, 'Dylan beautiful human.'

While another wrote during the episode, 'Dylan keogh appreciation post.'

While another said, 'dylan keogh best character.'

The Dylan appreciation has been going strong for the entire season, with another writing last week, 'For the love of god, can something nice please happen to Stevie soon?!

'And I would also very much like to marry Dylan please.'

While another said, 'I can’t wait to see what Dylan’s next storyline will be.'

While another said, 'I’m just so incredibly glad Dylan Keogh’s character exists and he’s played by the fantastic William Beck.'

Rida Amaan fights back

Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) is struggling since being assaulted by Russell Whitelaw, and this week, feeling she has nowhere else to turn, the nurse plots to expose the senior surgeon!

Rida’s shift gets off to a disheartening start when she witnesses Whitelaw (Robert Bathurst) humiliate doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) into performing a twirl for the surgical team.

Compassionate Rida reaches out to Nicole and asks for access to a secret social media group where the female staff warn colleagues about surgeons they need to be wary of.

Once added to the private platform, however, she makes a sickening discovery - what she’s experienced is a nationwide problem. Shocked, Rida takes the impulsive decision to make the list public!

As the list spreads like wildfire around the hospital, a furious Russell summons all the women on his team to his office. There, he reveals he has the full backing of the hospital trust and uses his powerful connections to ruthlessly manipulate them into silence.

Realising that more drastic action is needed, Rida hatches a risky plan to gain Russell’s trust and collect evidence against him…

“It comes from a place of seething anger and isn’t something you’d expect from her,” reveals Sarah Seggari in an exclusive interview with WTW. “It’s do or die for her at this point, but she’s not thinking rationally.”

There are fraught scenes when nurse Ngozi Okoye’s son Obi (Gangs of London’s Aryel Tsoto) suffers a seizure and is raced to Holby ED.

Even with the support of her partner Nicole, Ngozi (Adesuwa Oni) is distraught.

What is wrong with Obi and can the team, led by Dylan Keogh (William Beck), save him?

Student paramedic Indie Jankoski’s father Samuel (Coronation Street star Martin Hancock) is released from prison and in need of a place to stay.

Indie (Naomi Wakszlak) has only just started enjoying some stability since paramedic boss Jan Jenning (Di Botcher) saved her from life on the streets. Will Samuel’s sudden reappearance in her life throw a spanner in the works for the aspiring medic?

Meanwhile, the wedding planning is well underway for paramedic Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) and Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell). With the big day approaching, Iain reveals that his sister Gemma can’t make it, and his mum Kim is in no way welcome, while Faith frets over the breakdown of her relationship with Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless).

Will Stevie relent and support the couple who love her to death?

Elsewhere, clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) puts doctor Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) in charge of the department when he’s swamped with paperwork. Yet, when Flynn later undermines the younger medic’s decision regarding a vulnerable patient, will their working relationship be irreparably damaged?

Malpractice season 2 sees Dr Norma Callahan (Helen Behan) and Dr George Adjei (Jordan Kouamé) from the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU) return for a brand new case - this time looking into the actions of Dr James Ford (Tom Hughes), a Psychiatric Registrar in a North Yorkshire hospital.

James finds himself torn between a new mother attending a routine postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a psychotic woman during a hectic on-call shift - and soon a devastating turn of events leaves new mum Rosie dead and James fighting for his job. Is he a doctor with a God complex or the victim of wider problems?

Here is everything that happened in Malpractice season 2 episode 2...

The second episode opens with the Chief Medical Director coming to the psychiatric unit to tell James, Kate and everyone who works there that the unit is under threat of closure because of continuous failings. He tells the staff that he wants to fight to keep the unit open, but that they are all under review and things aren't looking good.

James is shocked to find Ed Newman has come to see him at work and is demanding answers about Rosie's death. While James tries to tell him that MIU will have answers soon, Ed tells him he needs answers immediately, as he is struggling with baby Alfie, he can't eat or sleep and their toddler keeps asking when her mummy is coming home. He lashes out at James, wanting to know why no one noticed that she was suicidal, and says she was on the maternity ward for four days and no one noticed. James questions why she was on the ward for four days, as that seems a long time, but Ed gets angry and security has to come and remove him.

Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Director, Eric, is told that they should offer Ed compensation now rather than waiting for the MIU report and he reluctantly agrees to set up a meeting with him. Eric later meets with George and Norma and they are surprised to learn from him that James came to the hospital midway through the year before, which George points out is unusual for a registrar, but Eric says he had a good reference.

Meanwhile, Toni has gone into labour and has locked herself in the toilets. James is called and he is forced to break the door down with a fire extinguisher and make a makeshift bed on the floor of the corridor. The baby's head is already out, and he has to deliver the baby there and then, despite no one there being trained in obstetrics.

Bernadette and James deliver the baby, but the shoulders are stuck and James has to look on his phone for how to deal with it. Everyone is panicked as they have no training, but soon the baby is delivered just as Dr Sophia Hernandez arrives and is cross that the baby has already been born, but James points out there was no time.

At first, the baby doesn't have a heartbeat, but eventually they find a faint one... and it looks like it's going to be okay. However, Toni is losing a lot of blood and Sophia says she needs to be in theatre and needs oxygen, something they don't have at the psychiatric unit.

In the end, they have to wait for an ambulance, and Kate and James are horrified that they have another potential death on their hands, and Sophia glares at them as she gets into the ambulance with an unconscious Toni.

Bernadette points out that Toni should have had her one to one with her so they knew the moment she went into labour, but Kate admits she had to take her one to one away as she wasn't due to give birth for another 4 weeks and the unit is under unimaginable pressure and she had no choice. Kate tells James not to mention this to the MIU, but he points out that he just saved a baby's life... however, she says they won't see it like that, and this couldn't have come at a worse possible time for them.

In theatre, Sophia is struggling to stop Toni's bleeding and so her colleague says they have no choice but to perform a hysterectomy. She is worried as they didn't get Toni's consent and while they are preparing for the surgery, Sophia tells her boss she is worried that the psychiatric team are going to blame her for what happened with Toni. However, he tells her that James is already under investigation and she should get her version of events into the right people before he does.

At the psychiatric unit, James sees Bernadette about to report Kate for the fact she took Toni's one-to-one away, but he stops her, saying they should be sticking together, not reporting one another, so Bernadette deletes her complaint before sending it.

Norma and George are leaving the hospital for the day when Norma asks if George would like to come for dinner with his partner. As he is accepting, his phone rings and it is Sophia asking for a meeting with them. He tells her they are still on hospital grounds and so can see her now, but she wants to meet somewhere off-site tomorrow.

When she eventually meets with George the following day, she throws James under the bus by saying that he must be the one who cancelled Toni's one to one and so therefore they missed her signs of early labour, and it sees James's good deed of stopping Bernadette from reporting Kate might come back to haunt him.

George asks Sophia about Rosie and once again, Sophia blames James for rushing his consultation with Rosie and also blames him for not stressing how important it was for her to take the medication prescribed.

While George and Norma talk about Sophia's complaint against James, they find his HR records from his previous job and it turns out there was a serious incident that happened before he left, but all details have been redacted from the file. They decide to look through old press reports to see if they can find out what the incident was.

Meanwhile, Toni has come round after her hysterectomy and James thinks she is depressed and not ready to be told that she had had the life-changing operation. Sophia once again argues with him, lying that she tried to get approval from Toni for the hysterectomy before she was sedated and wants her back on the psych ward asap. Kate and James refuse, saying she needs to meet her baby and be looked after by the obstetrics team, but Sophia isn't happy and they all argue.

Later, Norma and George speak to Kate about Rosie's death and she doesn't show him the same grace that he did to her earlier in the episode when she tells them that although she has never known him be late for work so doesn't know why it took him an hour to get to the hospital when he was on call, she does say that she didn't ask him to go to Toni's sectioning that she could have gone to Rosie's consultation if he had asked, which isn't strictly true. They also ask whose decision it was to remove Toni's one-to-one, and again, Kate lies and says it was a management decision because of costs, and completely covers the fact that it was her decision alone.

They later meet with James again to clarify the contradictions in Kate's meeting, and he is shocked when he realises what she has told them, but covers by calling it a misunderstanding. They question him about his whereabouts the night he was on call and when he sees they have CCTV footage of his car, he is forced to admit that he was at his girlfriend's flat. They also work out that he left his previous job because of a decision he made, which resulted in a nurse ending up in ITU after being attacked by a patient. James tries to argue his case, but his words fall on deaf ears and George and Norma tell him that, because of the evidence stacking up against him, they have no choice but to launch a full fitness to practice investigation, leaving him devastated as they say the case will go before a tribunal.

James is cross after his meeting and takes it out on the staff in Willow ward, cross that the maintenance team have left plastic tape over the door to the ladies that he had to bash down to get Toni out, pointing out it is a suicide risk on a psych ward. He then realises another patient has been on a trolley in A&E for more than 24 hours waiting for transport, and calls the department telling them to wheel him over, despite this being against protocol.

Over with George and Norma, George points out that Rosie was on the postnatal ward for an unusually long time after giving birth, despite her notes all saying that she and her baby were doing well. George says that Rosie was discharged by a midwife, Maria Carter, after talking with Sophia, but that Maria has now left the hospital and will only speak with them if she has her lawyer present. Norma points out that this is odd and asks him to set up a meeting with Maria ASAP.

George and Norma meet with Maria, who turns out to be the same woman who was watching Sophia's house in episode 1. Maria is nervous and quiet, and clearly doesn't want to be there. Norma says that Rosie has sadly died and that there is a doctor being investigated because of this, and Maria assumes they mean Sophia and not James, and launches into a speech about how she told Sophia that Rosie needed psychiatric help and needed to be referred, but that Sophia had cancelled the referral. Her lawyer tells her not to say any more and terminates the meeting, leaving Norma and George with more questions than answers.

That evening, James is dragged into a dinner party his sister is having and finds himself at a nightclub after they talk him into going. As they all take drugs and dance, he stands by the bar and has flashes where he keeps seeing Rosie on the night that she died, with blood all over her.

One of his sister's friends, Fizz, is flirty with him and comes over to kiss him, but she has already taken three pills and drags him home in a cab. As they are kissing in the taxi, she collapses and he has to get the taxi to take her to A&E.

There, the doctors ask what her name is and what she has taken, which James replies she is called Fizz but that is all he knows because he has only just met her. They ask his name and he makes one up as he doesn't want her associated with him as he is being investigated.

Instead, he sneaks out of the hospital and goes back to his girlfriend's house, but when he gets there, we see he is dating his boss, Kate!

James finds himself torn between a new mother attending a routine postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a psychotic woman during a hectic on-call shift - and soon a devastating turn of events leaves James fighting for his job. Is he a doctor with a God complex or the victim of wider problems?

Here is everything that happened in Malpractice season 2 episode 1...

The first episode opens with Dr James Ford arriving at work, and he seems to have a good relationship with all his patients as he greets them.

Meanwhile, over at the main hospital Dr Sophia Hernandez is checking over new mum Rosie Newman, who had a baby six weeks ago and also has a toddler. She is there with her husband, Ed, who is worried about her mental health, but Rosie plays it down when he mentions it to Hernandez. Sophia is worried and called Dr James Ford, but he has been caught up in covering his boss, who is meant to be going along to a block of flats to help the police section a pregnant woman who is on drugs and they believe to be a danger to herself and her baby.

Torn between which patient to see first, James picks the woman who needs to be sectioned as the police are waiting for him to arrive, plus she is in immediate danger. However, Dr Sophia Hernandez puts pressure on him to come and see Rosie before he leaves the hospital grounds and so he reluctantly dashes to see her.

While at the consultation, James asks Rosie routine questions about her state of mind, but as they talk, his pager and mobile keep buzzing, distracting everyone and annoying Rosie's husband, Ed. James leaves as soon as he can and tells Dr Sophia Hernandez that she needs to give Rosie some medication to help and that she should be booked in for a full assessment the following day.

When he arrives at the flats where the police are waiting, a crowd has gathered and they are turning on the officers. When Toni, the patient, doesn't answer the door, the police have to break the door down. Toni is scared as the police barge in, and her partner gets aggressive and pulls out a knife on the officers, leaving them with no choice but to taser him. A little girl appears at the commotion, and so James whisks her out of the flat to avoid her witnessing anything else.

Back at the hospital, James makes sure that Toni's sectioning paperwork goes through as he helps another doctor, Bernadette, who is struggling to diagnose a different patient. He is calm, has a good bedside manner, and tells Bernadette he is on call that evening, so if she has any problems with Toni to give him a call.

That night, James is woken by his phone, and it is Bernadette in a panic, frantically asking him to come into work immediately as they have a problem with a patient. He assumes it is Toni, as she will be coming down from her drug high, but it is Rosie, whom James saw earlier in the day. He rushes in, but is 45 minutes away, and lies to Bernadette that he will be less than half an hour. While they are on the phone, Rosie, who is lashing out, gets past the police and launches herself at Bernadette, attacking her in the ward.

When James arrives at the hospital, they have restrained Rosie with wrist and ankle ties and put a mesh mask over her head after she bit an officer. The police explain that Rosie's husband, Ed, called them earlier that night, telling them that Rosie was trying to drown baby Alfie. She was aggressive, and now Ed is at A&E getting Alfie checked out.

As James removes her restraints, Rosie seems calm now and James is confident she is responding to the sedatives he assumes she has been given. She recognises him from earlier, but it also seems like she is trying to talk to someone else who isn't there and suddenly lashes out again when she sees Bernadette. The police have to restrain Rosie again and James tells Bernadette to give her some more medication. She asks if they should add another sedative, but becasue he thinks she already has some in her system, he tells her no.

James calls for someone to take Rosie to Willow Ward, but one of his colleagues questions if they should wait for official transport, but he says no because it will take too long and he wants her in a secure ward before the sedatives wear off.

Down in paediatric A&E, Ed has been getting his son checked out, and he has been given the all clear. James goes to see him and asks what time Rosie took the medication he prescribed for her, wanting to know when she will need to take more. But he is shocked when Ed says he didn't see her take any tablets at home.

Meanwhile, Rosie is being taken to Willow Ward in a wheelchair, but isn't as sedated as James thought, so she soon hits the doctor pushing her and escapes out of the wheelchair and into a different part of the building. Realising what is about to happen, James races to find her, but it is too late and she is already on the roof of the building, preparing to jump off.

James panics and tries to talk Rosie down, who is on the edge of the roof ledge, but as he gets closer a sense of calm seems to come over her and he thinks that she is responding to his words, bit instead she leans backwards and throws herself off the building to the ground below, leaving James devastated.

The following morning, the police question James and everyone is in shock. Sophia arrives and blames James for what happened. He tells her that Rosie was a lot more unwell than either of them thought, and she bites back that this is on him becasue he only spent a few minutes reviewing her when she had raised concerns. They end up arguing about who is to blame, and Kate comes in to defuse the situation and sends James home for some sleep.

Norma and George from the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU) head to speak to Ed and ask about the review Rosie had with James the day before. He tells them James was in a rush and that when they got home, Rosie went straight to bed. He had assumed Rosie had taken the medication James prescribed, but wishes he had checked. Ed tells them that Rosie should never have been let home, and that she should have had a full review and been made to take the medication at the hospital. Norma assures Ed that they are going to get to the bottom of how this happened.

At a staff meeting, James and Sophia argue about Toni and whether she should have an elective C-section to deliver her baby. James says it is the safest way for her baby to be born, but Sophia has clearly got it in for James and they argue, leaving Kate to intervene again.

After the meeting, Kate tells James that the MIU wants to talk to him about Rosie's suicide, and she warns him to get his story straight and to tell them that Rosie wasn't showing any psychotic symptoms when they met, otherwise, he would have spotted them.

That night, James has a nightmare about Rosie's death and struggles to sleep. In his meeting with the MIU the following morning, James explains his version of what happened when he assessed Rosie the first time they met, while George and Norma tell him that Ed has claimed his phone and pager kept going off during the assessment. They grill him about the fact that he was juggling Rosie's assessment with Toni's sectioning and he tells them he wasn't in a rush. George and Norma question the decisions and assumptions that James made the night of Rosie's death, and he fights to defend himself, esepcially when Norma points out he had two oppourtunitites to asses Rosie and he failed to do so properly.

James asks Norma and George if he is under investigation and George says they will look into the events leading up to Rosie's death and also James's work history, and they will inform him of their decision after their assessment.

As Sophia gets home after picking up her kids, she is shocked to see a woman watching her house. She goes out to speak to her and tells her to leave, but the woman tells Sophia that she heard what happened to Rosie and that the truth will come out soon, and that her career will be over, leaving Sophia rattled.

Next, George and Norma question Bernadette and the doctor who walked Rosie to Willow Ward as she escaped the wheelchair. Both recount what happened the night Rosie died, but the timings with the medication don't fit if James arrived at the hospital half an hour after he was called. Bernadette tries to cover for James, knowing that all on-call doctors have to be within half an hour of the hospital, but eventually she is forced to admit to Norma and George that he didn't arrive until almost an hour after she called him.

At the end of the episode, we see James texting someone about his review with MIU and he replies that it went okay and that they thankfully didn't ask where he was - meaning he wasn't at home. But why?

Stevie Nash at breaking point

Consultant Stevie Nash faces fresh trauma this week as she discovers what the future holds following last week’s emergency surgery…

Dr Priya Rowland (Helen Crevel) reveals that Stevie (Elinor Lawless) has stage two ovarian cancer and, while the hysterectomy appears to have removed the disease, chemotherapy is recommended.

Feeling both scared and relieved at the prognosis, Stevie turns to her new friend and fellow patient, Cara Harris (Laura Pitt-Pulford), who tells Stevie that she’s going home today to die.

Their conversation is interrupted when Cara’s unsuspecting daughter Olive (Jessica Lawrenson) arrives and invites Stevie to join them for brownies from the hospital coffee truck.

But, this happy moment between the trio is suddenly cut short when Cara collapses in the carpark and is raced to the ED.

There, Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) reveals that Cara’s too ill to leave and tragically she dies soon afterwards, leaving Stevie distraught.

Stevie lashes out

Given the the recent chain of tragic events, from Rich’s death to this point, Stevie is understandably reeling. So, when Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) reaches out and tries to comfort her, Stevie lashes out and says some words that can’t be taken back.

Will an increasingly isolated Stevie lose her best friend as she reaches breaking point?

Nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) is horrified when her son Obi (Aryel Tsotois) is admitted to the ED after being attacked at school. Will she reconsider her life in Holby?

Seeing how much Ngozi is struggling, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) offers his support, but is she ready to take him at face value?

With the support of Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) and Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell), Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) bravely plans to report Russell Whitelaw (Robert Bathurst) to a trusted senior colleague. However, she’s stopped in her tracks by a shock revelation. Will this leave Rida vulnerable to another terrifying attack?

Speaking exclusively to WTW about how this traumatic storyline brings the three nurses closer together this week, Sarah told us:

"I think it was absolutely pertinent that Rida would tell Cam and Jodie; they are her best friends and the people she lives with, so they're going to be her first point of contact.

"It's also beautiful that we get to revisit Cam’s storyline through her storyline - I'm so glad that now Rida knows what Cam went through."

And finally, since joining the series earlier this year, Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) has become an insightful vehicle into what it takes to qualify as a paramedic. In this outing, the secretly homeless student is determined to pass her ‘blue lights test’, knowing it will bring her one step closer to becoming a fully-fledged emergency medic and, crucially, earning a wage.

Unfortunately, when the career-critical driving test is postponed Indie reaches her breaking point. Bitterly disappointed, running on empty and facing another night on the streets, will she be forced to park her dreams?

Stevie Nash faces an uncertain future

Stevie Nash and Rida Amaan’s lives are horrifyingly intertwined in tough scenes on Casualty this week.

Picking up directly from the previous events, Stevie’s life is on the line as she undergoes emergency surgery.

Terrified Stevie (Elinor Lawless) believes that she’s in good hands with senior surgeon Russell Whitelaw and her friends, doctor Nicole Piper and nurse Rida Amaan. Unfortunately, once she’s under the knife, Russell (Robert Bathurst) discovers that the situation is much more grave than anticipated…

Suspecting Stevie has cancer, he decides on a major, invasive procedure, which will have life-changing consequences for the medic. With so much on the line, the atmosphere is intense, and it suddenly becomes a waking nightmare for Rida.

While Nicole (Sammy T. Dobson) takes a short break, creepy Russell pushes up against the nurse and pins her against the operating table, leaving her frozen in fear.

He steps away when Nicole returns to finish the operation. Meanwhile, panicked and petrified Rida (Sarah Seggari) begins making mistakes during a critical moment.

There are rumours flying around the ambulance call centre that Jan Jenning’s job is in danger!

The department is undergoing a performance review and Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) hears through the grapevine from co-worker that if they fail, Jan will be forced to take the fall.

In her misguided bid to help, Indie takes a series of unorthodox steps, which includes calling Jacob Masters and Teddy Gowan directly while they’re on shift. Jacob (Charles Venn) is perplexed but Teddy (Milo Clarke) is furious that she’s broken protocol.

Needless to say, Indie is in DEEP trouble!

Dylan Keogh (William Beck) is running the ED in the wake of Flynn Byron’s outburst.

With Flynn (Olly Rix) determined to stay on shift, Dylan spells out what the clinical lead can and can’t do on his watch.

Suitably chastised, Flynn becomes determined to redeem himself. Rash Masum (Neet Mohan), however, isn’t buying Flynn’s act and tells him so!

Stevie Nash in danger

Stevie Nash’s life is in the hands of Holby’s fractured surgical team!

The consultant’s life hangs in the balance this week when nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) finds the consultant in agony and bleeding in the hospital toilets!

Prior to this, things are tense between Siobhan and Stevie throughout the shift following last week’s revelations. Yet, when Siobhan finds Stevie in agonising pain she jumps into protective mode.

As Stevie (Elinor Lawless) explains that she has a growth on her ovary, Siobhan takes charge and admits her to resus, where senior doctor Dylan Keogh (William Beck) arranges emergency surgery.

Meanwhile, upstairs on the surgery ward, things are frosty between medics Rida Amaan and Nicole Piper! Nicole’s shocked after Rida (Sarah Seggari) defends their sexist boss Russell Whitelaw (Robert Bathurst) and implies that she’s not good enough to work alongside him (more on this below).

Needless to say Nicole (Sammy T. Dobson) is stunned .

Can they put their differences aside as terrified Stevie is wheeled into theatre?

Riot horror

The death of schoolgirl Carly Wilson sparks bitter divisions both inside and outside Holby City Hospital in this episode, leaving many on dangerous ground…

Emotions are running high as the shocked community learns that Carly and her friend Lena Hazlett (Mariella Hazar) were being pursued by PC Catherine Dalton (Nicole Sargent, The Bay) before she died. As a vigil for the teenager turns violent, Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) teams up with HEMS to help treat casualties at the scene, while Dylan holds the fort at the ED...

Dylan attacked

When tragedy strikes again later, a frazzled Flynn takes it personally and physically attacks Dylan in resus.

He then storms off and trashes his office!

With numerous witnesses, is Flynn’s career at Holby about to be cut short?

Rida seeks answers

Encouraged by Nicole, Rida decides to talk to surgeon Sean Redmond (Seth Somers) at the start of their shift about why she’s been avoiding him.

Rida is hesitant at first, until she sees how caring he is with gastric band patient Georgina Emerick (Molly Hewitt-Richards) and her pushy mum Caron (Rebecca Clay, The Danish Girl).

As she questions him on the nature of his relationships with fellow female medics, Sean explains he ghosted a scrub nurse after a few terrible dates, which has earned him an unfair reputation. Satisfied he’s telling the truth, the pair reconcile and get their budding relationship back on track.

Buoyed, Rida later takes Russell Whitelaw (Robert Bathurst) to task for a sexist comment and, once again, the senior surgeon appears to take her comments onboard gracefully.

Believing she’s making an impact and that Russell is merely stuck in his ways but ultimately harmless, Rida ends up defending their boss to Nicole in an uncharacteristically unkind manner…

It’s all hands on deck as a shockingly violent riot erupts in Holby after a schoolgirl dies following a police chase, with the paramedic team on the frontline.

As night falls and Carly Wilson’s distraught and angry father Ashley (Jay McDonald, Top Boy) brings some heavies to her vigil, Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) and Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) call for urgent backup as events escalate horrifyingly quickly.

At the start of the day Flynn attempts to curry favour with his colleagues by promising them pizza and drinks after the shift as a thank you for all their hard work.

He’s also convinced that Holby West councillor Anna Mills (Alicia Charles) holds the key to improving the department. But, as highlighted above, his grip on self-control quickly unravels in the heat of the day’s difficult events and leaves him isolated from the rest of the team.

Having lost the confidence of the staff, is there anyway for the ex-army medic to redeem himself and avoid being kicked out in disgrace?

Stevie Nash’s stalker escalates his terror campaign

Consultant Stevie Nash is living in fear since becoming the target of an unknown stalker. So far the masked man has vandalised her car, shown up at Holby Hospital and broken into her apartment. This week, events accelerate alarmingly with a police raid on her home!

Stevie (Elinor Lawless) is terrified as officers burst into the flat where she lives alone and treat her like a dangerous criminal. They then turn the place upside down, having been tipped off that illegal substances are being manufactured at the property. Eventually, after it becomes apparent that the doctor has nothing to hide, the leading detective advises her to report the harassment…

Taking control

Shaken, Stevie heads to work, where she confides in advanced clinical practitioner Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell).

Faith is worried about her best friend as she awaits test results to discover whether the mass on her ovary is benign or not and cautions Stevie to focus on her health and let the police handle the stalker. Stevie, however, has other ideas and keeps a close eye on her newly installed security camera throughout the shift!

Later, Stevie is alerted by a notification on her phone showing footage of the hooded individual at her front door. She drops everything and races home, ready to confront the intruder with no regard for her safety.

Dangerous encounter

Stevie is shocked to discover he’s broken in and sprayed obscene graffiti on her walls. Even more disturbing, the man is still there and she recklessly risks her life to stop him from escaping.

Can Stevie unmask her sinister stalker and avoid being seriously hurt as he attempts to flee?

Clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is visibly unimpressed when Holby West councillor Anna Mills (Alicia Charles) turns up at the hospital bearing a new defibrillator for the department.

It’s clear she plans on using him for a publicity stunt, but instead Flynn attempts to make her understand that they need proper funding, not charity or gifts.

Will his direct approach backfire?

Elsewhere, nurse Ngozi Okoye’s sobriety is on a knife-edge after her son, Obi, spots her kissing doctor Nicole Piper. Ngozi (Adesuwa Oni) knows she has to make a difficult decision, which means either risking her relationship with soulmate or her son.

What will she decide?

At the emergency control centre the tension is palpable as a worried Jan Jenning (Di Botcher) tells the team they risk being investigated due to a failure to make time-sensitive targets.

Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) is keen to prove she can be an asset, but the trainee paramedic's intentions are derailed as she accepts an emergency call from pregnant mum-to-be Alison Walmsley (played by Camilla Roholm) in desperate need of help.

Alison is driving herself to the hospital but is forced to pull over as her contractions get closer. With the next available ambulance still a distance away, Indie guides the frightened woman through the process, but will mum and baby be okay? And how will Indie explain the lengthy call to Jan, who is clearly overwhelmed by paperwork and managerial pressures?

Surgical registrar Sean Redmond (Seth Somers) attempts to use Nicole (Sammy T. Dobson) as a go-between in a desperate attempt to contact a suddenly unreachable Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari). Will she bite?

There are sweet scenes as Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) and Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) confide in close friends about their wedding planning. What could go wrong for this couple who appear to be a match made in heaven?

And finally, keep an eye out for a very special former Coronation Street actor, who once terrorised Weatherfield with multiple murders. Will Connor McIntyre’s Casualty character, grieving biker Kenny Sanders, prove equally menacing as his Corrie alter ego Pat Phelan when Ngozi bonds with him? Or is he simply a struggling widower in need of her special brand of caring and gentle bedside manner?

The operating room of a hospital is always a scary place, but especially when the doctor performing the procedure might just be a murderer. Such is the case of the new TV thriller, Sinister Surgeon, premiering tonight on Lifetime.

A Tubi original that previously dropped on that free streaming service back in July 2024, Sinister Surgeon makes its chilling debut on Lifetime on Sunday, April 6 at 8pm Eastern Time. This murder mystery is set in the medical world: a young doctor has landed her dream job as the new resident at a Beverly Hills plastic surgery clinic. However, the exciting new gig quickly turns eerie when the clinic's patients start dying one by one. And their lives seemingly aren't ending because of natural causes or medical anomalies — no, horrifyingly, the practice's top cosmetic surgeon has been secretly murdering his patients.

Leading the cast of Sinister Surgeon is Samantha Neyland Trumbo (Tempted, Horror Noire) as the young MD Katelyn, with Anthony Montgomery (General Hospital, The Family Business) as her menacing boss Dr. Peterson. Rounding out the ensemble are fellow actors Alisa Allapach as Lori, Helena Mattsson as Dr. Nichols, Harry Jarvis as Brad, Justin Chu Cary as Detective Elliot, Ashley London as Jennifer, Shantel Jackson as Tracey and Jordyn Rolling as Sarah.

The 90-minute mystery thriller was directed by Jonathan Louis Lewis (Tenants, The Black Box), with a screenplay from writers Mary O'Neil (Tarot Curse, You Shouldn't Have Let Me In) and James Quinn.

The hurricane continues to ravage the city. Danny (Willa Fitzgerald) is outside when a car crashes into a lightpole, trapping the driver. Danny runs inside to get help and grab a box cutter. When the men try to lift the pole from the car, she uses the box cutter to slash the tires so that the car sinks as they deflate.

Inside, the power is out and there are no x-rays or scans available except on portable units. Danny tells the woman who came in with the injured man that power is out everywhere. Xander (Colin Woodell) and Tom (Jack Bannon) discuss their options since they can’t do surgery; they’ll have to stabilize the man’s broken leg until power comes back.

Xander is changing into dry scrubs when Danny walks in. She’s fine with him being there so he keeps undressing while she changes her clothes. He tells her she did a good job, which leads Danny to tell him not to be nice to her as a strategy since she filed charges against him. She admits she’s glad he’s there because of the hurricane and suggests a truce until the hurricane ends, vowing to keep their personal lives out of it.

In a flashback to 11 months prior, Danny sees Xander at the bar during a donor gala. She’s there to accept an award on Harper’s behalf. She admits she might need Xander as her fake date and they go through all of the rules for their fake date.

Camila (Daniela Nieves) checks on her patient who got sick while attending a hurricane party. She wants to get back to the party but she’s in agonizing pain.

Natalie is happy with Vero’s progress. She wants to keep lowering her sedation so she can be off the ventilator before it loses power. The nurse cautions that Ruben doesn’t want it lowered but Natalie insists.

The ER is full of people as the news reports that the hurricane stalled over Miami. Camila gives Sophie (Chelsea Muirhead) her patient’s chart and says it was appendicitis after all, but Sophie isn’t reassured by the news given that they can’t do surgery. When they go to see her she’s gone.

Lies and secrets

Cass (Jessica Rothe) gives Luis (Arturo del Puerto) some files. He asks her about getting close to Tom and she laughs off the question. Camila asks him about her missing patient and he says she walked out after being discharged. Sophie asks him if she was walking upright (she was) and realizes her appendix already burst and she probably felt better but she’s about to go into shock. They seek out Tom, who is furious that he’s responsible for a patient who has gone missing. Sophie vows to find her.

Xander checks on his trauma patient. The woman says they only went to the ER because she needed meds for her UTI, which he takes credit for because they’ve been stuck in their hotel for a week after their cruise was cancelled. Danny and Xander try to figure out their dynamic as questions hit them from the staff.

In a flashback, Xander warns Danny about galas and not being friendly with donors after she admits to a woman that she’s not having fun. She’ll never be chief resident that way, but she tells him she doesn’t want the job. She says he’s used to getting what he wants because of how he was raised, and when he says the donor she rebuffed is his mother she decides to go speak with her.

Harper tells Danny that she needs to get her side of the story out before Xander can share his side. She doesn’t want to say anything, nor does she want to reveal the reason he left his old job. When Elijah (Jessie T. Usher) walks in, Danny leaves and Harper asks if he has sisters. He’s shocked that it’s the first question she’s ever asked him.

Shannon (Kathryn Smith-McGlynn) asks Cass for an update on Nia. The surgery went well, and when Cass says Tom did it, Shannon rolls her eyes and says now Nia will have more reason to be obsessed with him. Cass is thinking about that comment when Xander asks her for something and she tells him to get it himself.

Sophie wants to go find their patient but Camila warns her that she could die if she goes out there. Sophie admits she’s more afraid of Tom than she is of the hurricane. Camila reluctantly agrees to go with her.

Ponytails

Tom sees Xander connecting a portable stove to make coffee. Xander asks if people are taking sides. Tom tells him that he should start defending himself. “Be smart,” Tom says.

Later, Xander asks Elijah for help with a dislocated hip. Elijah checks to make sure the man is unconscious even though Xander said he was. Elijah walks away as soon as they’re done, but Xander follows him and asks if Danny said anything about what happened between them. She hasn’t. Xander says Danny really wanted the chief resident job.

Luis is on the radio with emergency management, who tells him that their fuel truck was rerouted because they already have power. When he says they don’t have power, they find out there was a “miscommunication” and they’re not coming. Luis gives Natalie the update and she sighs as she sees how low Vero’s ventilator battery is. Danny sees Luis talking to Xander and Natalie, but when she asks, Xander doesn’t say anything to her. Later we see him on the phone with his father, asking for help.

The man with a broken leg lost circulation in his other leg. Danny says he needs surgery to relieve the pressure so she sets up a procedure in the trauma bay. Tom comes in and takes over even though Danny has gotten everything ready. He doesn’t want to babysit her and he also doesn’t want her to report him. She asks to see how he does it, and he walks her through the procedure. His pulse comes back right away. Tom critiques her work.

Vero starts to wake up and squeezes her mother’s hand. The ventilator battery is about to die so Natalie orders the sedation to be stopped but the nurse wants to get Ruben. Natalie tells her to get out and does it herself. “You’ve got this, baby,” she says.

Danny gives the UTI patient some medicine but Danny and Xander realize she’s not telling them about her real condition because she’s showing symptoms of something else. She breaks down and says she didn’t want to reveal her illness, myasthenia gravis, to her husband but Xander says people who love each other take care of each other.

Sophie and Camila search for their patient. Sophie wants to give up but Camila stays positive. Sophie says she’s making her look bad, because she looks like a “TV doctor,” but Camila admits she wants to be just like Sophie. She never considered being a surgeon until she saw Sophie in action and standing up against Tom. Sophie admits Tom has a “type” and it includes women with high ponytails, and that’s not who she is. They soon find their patient and manage to stop a truck to get her to the hospital.

Tom says they can’t do surgery without power, but Sophie says they just risked their lives to find her. Luis announces that the fuel trucks arrived and while Tom won’t allow Sophie to scrub in, he tells her she did a nice job and that’s a win for her.

The truth

The UTI patient passes out so they get to work. They can’t do much without power but Danny helps an intern through a procedure and they get her vitals back up.

When someone asks about where the fuel came from, Danny credits Xander and asks if he called his father, which he did. Embarrassed at being exposed, Xander reveals that the reason she filed the complaint is that they were living together and he told her he loved her, but since her mother walked out she couldn’t handle it and pushed him away. The whole staff hears it.

In the past, Xander offers Danny a drink and tells her that his parents sent him to Indonesia after he graduated med school. He was so overwhelmed that he had to let a four-year-old boy die because so many people needed help. His father had to lie to people that he got malaria but the truth is that he ran away. Danny says her mother ran off when she was nine and she has no idea why, which makes him feel terrible for her. He asks again about the chief resident position and she admits she wants it. He says it’s about getting experience and mentorship, so she asks if he’s offering. He is. Professionally, she says, she accepts his offer.

Sophie rounds a corner and sees Tom chatting with Camila. He’s smiling at her; Sophie realizes Camila’s hair is now tied up in a high ponytail, too. She walks away in disgust, feeling betrayed.

Danny sobs now that the truth is out while we see visions of the past where she’s dancing with Xander.

Natalie encourages her daughter to keep breathing. The power is about to go out but Vero starts to wake up and pull the tubes from her body in a panic. The lights come on, but Vero is already coding.

The hurricane is bearing down on Maguire and tension is at an all-time high amongst the staff. Here’s your Pulse episode 2 recap.

Paramedics Nia (Ash Santos) and Shannon (Kathryn Smith-McGlynn) make a sweep through the neighborhood as people are being urged to shelter in place ahead of the hurricane. Shannon teases Nia for having a crush on Tom Cole (Jack Bannon), but they’re interrupted by a woman calling for help after a tree fell on her house, trapping her kids.

Danny (Willa Fitzgerald) tells Xander (Colin Woodell) she’s not going to back down because of the awkward situation. Xander presses Danny for information about how she’s handling the extra patients, but she says she’s got it all under control, using the conference room as an overflow for patients. When he asks where the staff will sleep, she has no answer yet.

Camila (Daniela Nieves) tells Elijah (Jessie T. Usher) it must be awful for Danny to have to work with the person she filed a complaint against. Elijah says Xander’s the “hero” and Danny’s “humiliated,” but Tom reminds him he’s the one who ratted Danny out to Natalie (Justina Machado) because he was upset about losing the position. Camila says Xander could be a “perv,” but Sophie says Danny could be a liar. Tom doesn't believe Xander is a perv, but now Elijah sticks up for Danny. Luis (Arturo del Puerto) tells them to get to work.

Danny asks Camila to find a place the staff can sleep. When Camila asks about the “on call rooms,” Danny tells her to "unlearn" what she's seen on Grey’s Anatomy. Danny gets pulled as Luis tells her that house collapse victims are coming in and Natalie wants to see her upstairs.

Best bathrooms

Suddenly the ER is being flooded by pregnant women, as Harper (Jessy Yates) explains everyone due to give birth is being called in as a precaution. She teases Danny about her phobia, then mentions she’s worried because their father isn’t picking up his phone.

Upstairs, Vero (Sophia Torres) is on a ventilator with Natalie beside her. When Natalie spots a tattoo on Vero’s ankle, she shakes her head. Danny walks in and Natalie asks for an update. Danny says the hospital is full and almost the entire staff is there. Natalie, who worries about the power supply, tells her to lean on Xander. When Xander walks in, Natalie dismisses Danny.

Shannon leads the house collapse kids inside while Nia is wheeled in with a metal bar sticking out of her stomach. She’ll never get over it if Tom ends up being the one to save her life. The kids’ parents want to stay with the kids but the wife doesn’t want the husband near her. Harper tends to the little boy while Danny and Elijah help his sister. Xander offers his advice on a procedure, which leads to an argument between them until Elijah tells Xander to back off. Ultimately Danny does it his way and it works perfectly.

Danny has a flashback to one year prior. She’s out partying with the staff to welcome Xander. They talk about the best places in the hospital to get away from people. Danny gets a drink and Xander follows her to the bar. She says everyone knows his parents are at the top of the hospital’s donor wall, but Xander insists he wants to be his own person. He asks where she goes to be alone in the hospital? She proposes a deal: if he can get the bartender’s attention, she’ll tell him, but if she does, then she’ll get the first good trauma the next day.

In the present, Danny heads to the bathroom in radiology. Someone is in there already and she asks Danny to leave.

Much obliged

Tom checks Nia’s vitals while quizzing Sophie about the case. When Nia answers his questions instead, she accuses him of being a bad teacher and only wanting to tell Sophie when she’s wrong. He asks Nurse Cass (Jessica Rothe) to call the OR but they’re slammed; Cass instead asks about the patient he’s been flirting with and reminds him about the environment they’re working in thanks to the accusations. He jokes she can’t get rid of him so easily.

Natalie tells Ruben they should wean Vero off the ventilator. He reminds her that he’s the doctor and she’s the mother. She’s upset she didn’t know Vero was on the bus or that she had a tattoo. Ruben assures her Vero will pull through this, giving her a hug.

Danny asks the kids’ mother if she wants her husband. The woman says he cheated on her and she was about to tell him to leave but then the house collapsed. Danny says she would have saved herself, but the woman still loves him.

In the past, Xander offers Danny a trauma involving swimmers. The twist is that they have to take a helicopter to get to them.

Camila tells Sophie she can’t find a place that fits Danny’s requirements. Sophie warns her to never make promises to the Chief Resident. Camila apologizes profusely to Danny, but Danny tells her not to apologize and instead spots the gift shop. She uses a fire extinguisher to smash the window, then she tells Camila to get housekeeping to bring up some beds. Just then the power goes out.

When Danny heads back into the ER, she sees Xander talking to the nurses. He tells everyone even though they're running on one generator, they’re staying open and they’ll get through this. Danny is furious he kept the information from her. She storms upstairs and tells Natalie to give the job to Elijah.

In the past, Xander and Danny land on the beach and head to the victims. Danny takes a woman’s vitals and comes up with a treatment plan, making Xander smile. Soon the patient is stable and ready to be moved. He asks Danny if she’d like to have dinner with him? She awkwardly agrees, but doesn’t want either one of them to feel obliged.

Flying solo

Back in the present, Danny tries her father again. He doesn’t answer. As she heads into the stairwell she runs into Xander, who asks if he should start defending himself and share the details of what happened. She counters she could share details, too, including why he had to leave his previous hospital.

Sophie gives Tom an update on Nia, who's struggling while they wait for an OR to open up. Tom goes to the OR and urges Ruben to help. Ruben says she must be special if he’s interrupting. Tom offers to get Nia ready for surgery, but Ruben relents and will get her prepped, but he makes Tom repeat the instructions to make it clear. Tom gives Nia the update, but she's scared without her family there. Tom says he’s going to be with her.

Outside, the wind howls violently. Danny returns to the bathroom and finds the woman is still in there. Danny spots fluid on the ground and realizes the moaning woman is in labor. As much as Danny doesn’t want to do it, she has to help her.

She has a flashback to when she and Xander returned to the ER from their beach trip. Xander said she wasn’t “essential,” which deeply hurt her. In the present, she tells an orderly outside the bathroom that they have a “code stork” and then she returns to the stall and starts helps the woman, Mariana, deliver the baby.

Tom starts Nia's procedure as instructed. He asks Sophie questions and offers praise, but he makes a mistake and suddenly Nia starts bleeding out. Sophie wants to get Ruben but Tom pulls the metal out so he can find the source of the bleeding. Ruben arrives in the OR and finds the source of the bleed, continuing with the surgery. He calls Tom over to tell him that he did a good job “flying solo.”

Tom walks out of the OR and gets a text from Cass, who wants to meet him in room 712. When he arrives he finds her in the empty bed waiting for him.

The other side

Natalie tells Ruben she wants to extubate Vero because the ventilator could run out of battery power and the power could go out at any time. But he believes they have time.

Elijah comes into the bathroom with fresh scrubs for Danny. They head to the lobby and see Camila keeping order in the gift shop. Elijah says Danny had his back for three years and he’s sorry about going to Natalie. He wants her to know he believes her. She's worried everyone is going to take Xander’s side and they’re all going to hate her, she doesn’t want them to hate Elijah, too. “Forget those people,” he says.

In the past, Xander finds Danny in the gift shop and realizes it’s her secret spot. He can see she’s upset he kicked her out of the trauma. She thinks he kicked her out because she refused dinner and she knows he has power and can do anything to her career. He can’t believe she thinks he’s “that guy.” He wonders if she would have wanted him to keep her in the trauma room because she’s his favorite, and he adds that he wished they could’ve stayed longer on the beach. He moves close, about to kiss her, but she tells him he shouldn’t say that to her. He tells her she shouldn’t be in the gift shop while she’s on shift. Back in the present, the power flickers and Danny runs out of the lobby.

When the lights flicker, Natalie tells the nurse to start lowering Vero’s sedatives. The nurse wants to get Ruben’s approval, but Natalie insists.

Danny runs out onto the roof. They’re in the eye of the hurricane and the sky is clear and calm. Xander is there, too. He saw she made up with Elijah, calling it a good move because he’s a good ally. He also warns her the problem with being in the eye of the hurricane is that everything reverses on the other side.

There’s a storm brewing at Maguire, Miami’s busiest Level 1 trauma center, and that doesn’t even include the hurricane bearing down on the city. Here’s your Pulse episode 1 recap.

An accident on a rainy bridge sends a school bus full of soccer players careening over the side and into the waters below.

As the camera pans toward the hospital, a news report tells us a powerful storm, Hurricane Abby, is expected to cause a lot of damage. Dr. Tom Cole (Jack Bannon) walks into the hospital and is met by Dr. Sam Elijah (Jessie T. Usher) and nurse Luis (Arturo del Puerto), who are all talking about Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell).

Dr. Harper Simms (Jessy Yakes) wakes up her sister, Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms, who is sleeping in one of the staff rooms and is close to being late for her shift. When Danny asks if people “know,” Harper replies word is out but no one knows the details.

Xander had sexual harassment filed against him the day before. Luis says Xander was in bad shape; he’s never seen the Chief Resident like that before. Tom is in disbelief, as Xander's the best chief they’ve had and everyone loves him. When Tom asks if Danny knows, Elijah gives him a look. She more than knows.

Danny asks if people know who filed the complaint. Harper starts braiding her sister’s hair and gives Danny advice on how to face the day and the fallout.

Next in line

Tom points out if Xander is fired, Elijah is next in line for Chief Resident. As they walk into the heart of the ER, Tom asks Dr. Sophie Chan (Chelsea Muirhead) what she thinks about the harassment allegations? She's too tired to speak for all women at the moment. Tom focuses on the newest member of the team, third-year med student Camila Perez (Daniela Nieves), but Harper interrupts and says Tom will never remember her name because they’ve worked together for two years and he still doesn’t know who she is. They’re interrupted when Luis says victims from the bus crash are on the way in.

All eyes are on Danny as Elijah checks in on her well-being and Tom wonders what really happened. They’re interrupted when Dr. Natalie Cruz (Justina Machado) comes in and announces that Danny will be taking the Chief Resident spot. Everyone is stunned.

In a flashback, we’re introduced to Xander, who has been transferred to the hospital. He’s charming and funny and immediately captures the staff’s attention, while Danny catches his attention.

Danny tells Dr. Cruz she can’t promote her because of the way it looks. That’s when Danny realizes she wasn’t their first choice for Chief Resident, but they had no choice. As the patients arrive, Elijah halfheartedly congratulates Danny on the new role.

Triage

As Chief Resident, Danny must control the chaos. She thinks back to Xander’s first day when he took over one of her patients after he returned to the ER, but afterwards Xander admits Danny is a good doctor, and from then on they got along fine.

Back in the present, Tom’s young patient lost his hand in the crash. Tom simultaneously flirts with and insults the new paramedic, Nia (Ash Santos) as he tends to his patient, Tyler, who asks about his friend, Vera. Tom puts together that Vera is Natalie’s daughter and tells a nurse to inform Danny.

Upstairs, Dr. Ruben Soriano (Nestor Carbonell) tells Natalia he’s concerned about the hurricane, but she insists the hospital was built to withstand the storm. More importantly, though, he’s concerned about changing leadership in the middle of it. While he fully supports the HR investigation, he doesn’t think removing Xander from his post makes sense right now. Natalia believes Danny is capable, and she’s trying to navigate a legal minefield with the accusations Danny leveled against Xander.

Harper checks in with Elijah while they work on their patients from the bus crash. She knows it must be hard for him to accept that Danny got the promotion. He mentions Danny was Xander’s favorite and he wishes he knew what she’d been going through.

Danny treats the bus driver and the team's coach, who can’t go to surgery for another 20 minutes because they’re overwhelmed by patients. Elijah comes in to check on her and it’s clear he’s more concerned about his friend than losing the position. But when the nurse reports Natalie’s daughter could be on the bus, Danny makes the decision not to tell her because it would be distracting to her while she’s in surgery and they don’t even know if it’s true. Elijah doesn’t agree.

Standing out

Sophie watches the news report and Camila, a Miami native, asks if this is her first hurricane. Though Sophie is used to tornados in her hometown, the big storm has her on edge. Sophie takes the opportunity to tell Camila that her wardrobe is too much for their laid back aesthetic but Camila is eager to stand out.

A patient rolls in and Elijah calls Sophie and Camila in to help. Sophie says the patient needs a chest tube and she moves to put it in despite the team’s concerns. Tom walks in and asks what Sophie was thinking as Ruben comes in and says the chest tube, while successful, is too low. Elijah asks Tom why he didn’t stand up for Sophie’s solid work, but Tom says Xander supported Danny and now he’s lost his job.

Harper finds Danny and Luis working on Coach Harris. She tells Danny she needs to oversee the floor and not spend all of her time on a patient. Danny has a flashback of Xander calling out her fear of pregnant women and making her deliver a baby to get over her anxiety. Back in the present, the OR is ready for the coach but he wakes up on the way and says he doesn’t want to leave without knowing how his kids are doing. He refuses treatment until he finds out.

Tom finds Nia and asks about Tyler’s hand. She said they’re still looking for it. When she uses a nickname for him, she says she knows all about him thanks to his surgeon TikTok and Tinder profiles.

Setbacks

Danny goes to see Coach Harris. She tells him he’ll die without surgery and that his team is worried and wants to see him. He doesn’t want them to know he’s refusing treatment. Danny sits down and tells him that Harper is her sister and when they were kids they used to fight a lot. Danny reveals she pushed her sister down the stairs during one of their fights. She pushed her so hard she didn’t hit the stairs, just the ground. Danny understands wanting to suffer more than the people you hurt. Coach Harris asks how she suffers? She admits she makes bad decisions and says the wrong things, but knows you can’t do it if you’re dead. They’re interrupted by Luis, who reveals there’s one more critical patient coming in.

Danny leaves Coach Harris and finds Xander at the nurse’s station. She asks him to ID if a patient is Vero Cruz (Sophia Torres), Natalie's daughter. Sure enough, it is, and she’s the most critical patient of them all.

It’s all hands on deck. Danny sends Camila to the OR to let Natalia know Vero is there. Tom is notified that they’ve found Tyler’s hand so he leaves to tend to him, leaving Danny and Xander to work together. He watches over Danny as she drains fluid away from Vero’s heart.

Upstairs, Camila asks Elijah where she can find Natalia, so he takes over and goes to tell her himself. Natalie is in the middle of surgery but she’s furious that no one told her Vero was there. Elijah reveals Danny knew but didn’t tell her.

Vero’s condition worsens, so Danny decides to perform a risky procedure in the ER. Xander cautions her against it but she keeps going, only to have the power go out in the middle. Xander tells Danny he has faith in her as she continues. Elijah returns and says the backup generators are down because of flooding. Natalie arrives and tells Danny to stop, but the power comes on and everything looks good enough to move Vero to surgery. Natalie demands answers about why no one told her Vero was there. Danny says there was no proof it was Vero. Natalie says Elijah knew it was her. She storms out to follow her daughter to surgery. Elijah tries to talk to Danny, but Danny keeps walking.

Danny heads to Coach Harris’ bedside. He says she looks terrible. She offers to sit with him so he’s not alone when he dies.

Tom tells Tyler that they found his hand, and he gives credit to Nia, whom he says has a crush on him. Tyler is grateful.

Outside, the players gather and tell Coach Harris he needs to get surgery. Danny gives him a final push and he agrees. The players cheer as their coach is taken to surgery. Danny returns to his now-empty room and thinks back to Xander telling her she did a great job delivering the baby. He wants to know why she always doubts herself? He guesses she self-sabotages because she’s afraid of her own potential. When he moves in to kiss her, she pulls away from him.

In the present, Xander comes into the room and says he tried calling her. He says she dropped a nuke on their lives when they could have talked. Danny says she was dumb enough to believe all the things he said to her. He says he heard her talking to the coach and saying she pushed Harper down the stairs, but he knows it was really her father. Danny also knows why he left his previous hospital, but they’re interrupted when Natalie comes in and says the hurricane is going to be a direct hit and they need everyone on deck, including Xander.

In the past, Danny arrives home and strips down to her underwear. She walks into the bathroom to find Xander already in the shower. “Hi,” he says. He knows she’s upset that he “slipped” about talking about their relationship in public. She walks into the shower with him and kisses him.

The 2024-2025 television season has been chock full of medical procedurals and some are better than the others. As The Pitt receives high praise as Max’s first foray into the medical drama space, all eyes have turned to Pulse, Netflix’s own original series. After watching the new medical drama, I can safely say Pulse is more Grey’s Anatomy than The Pitt, but it charts its own course in a crowded field of competition and the heavy drama is sure to raise viewers’ heart rates.

Pulse is the story of Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), an ER doctor at Maguire. Not only is a hurricane bearing down on the area, forcing the staff to shelter in place with the patients as it sustains a direct hit, but mere hours beforehand the ER staff is rocked by news that their Chief Resident, Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is facing sexual harassment allegations. Not only is Danny named as Xander’s replacement, she’s also the one who filed the claim against him.

With tension at an all-time high, the hospital staff is forced to contend with a busload of soccer players who went over a bridge, injuries from the storm, pregnant women and just about everything else you can imagine. They’re low on power and facing a race against time to help as many people as possible as the conditions worsen.

Pulse’s strength lies in its character development and the relationships between the characters, which it establishes early on in the pilot by allowing the characters to essentially introduce themselves throughout the story. Viewers are not left wondering who these people are for long; the stories connecting them, and the pivotal plot points weaving the past and present together are slowly revealed throughout the season and they make for a richer viewing experience.

My biggest critique is that we find out the claims have been filed against Dr. Phillips early in the pilot episode, but it takes a while to establish what happened. Since we don’t know what happened, it’s hard to tell who to root for. The series cleverly uses the supporting cast to ask the questions as they talk amongst themselves because in their view, the charges don’t make sense; Dr. Phillips is hugely popular and no one wants to believe he did anything wrong. But Danny is very likeable, too, which only makes it harder to understand.

I really appreciated that the characters blended Spanish and English at times, lending credibility to Maguire's location in Miami-Dade County. I liked that not all of the staff members are best friends and that little microaggressions that are a natural part of a high-pressure work environment — like one member of the team dressing better than the rest — are mentioned in a very organic and realistic way.

As medical procedurals go, Pulse is highly watchable and will be an easy choice for Grey’s Anatomy fans looking for something new. In fact, having watched Grey’s for years and after seeing The Pitt, there’s no question that Netflix was aiming for a medical show that could be accessible for younger fans — if they’re watching Grey’s, they can watch Pulse with no problem — while keeping the older demographics happy, too. Netflix’s new medical show delivers plenty of heart-pounding drama to get pulses racing.
