Few names are as synonymous with rock 'n' roll greatness as "Live Aid," a two-city event organized by singers-producers Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise relief funds for the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia, following the success of the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?". Taking place simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, England and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1985, the 16-hour charity rock concert galvanized the world, bringing together some of the biggest names in music, from Mick Jagger and Tina Turner to US, Elton John, Madonna, Paul McCartney, U2 and Queen, among others.

And tonight, July 13, at 9pm Eastern Time, CNN is kicking off a four-part documentary series celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic 1985 concert: Live Aid: When Rock ‘n’ Roll Took on the World "explores the event’s legacy of reshaping global charity efforts and political action and how one Christmas pop song sparked a movement that has directly (or indirectly) raised tens of billions of dollars for Africa," per CNN.

"Bob Geldof, initially alone, then with Bono, challenged, embarrassed and embraced the world’s most powerful people, all in an attempt to address the unjust relationship between Africa and the West," continues the series description. "Live Aid: When Rock n’ Roll Took on the World is a tale of unimaginable tragedy, mad ambition, political machinations and amazing music."

Along with rare archival footage straight from the Live Aid stage as well as backstage gems with the likes of George Michael, Paula Yates and Boy George, the docuseries features interviews with iconic musical figures including Bob Geldof, Bono, Sting, Patti LaBelle, Phil Collins and Lionel Richie as well as global leaders including George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice, President Obasanjo and Tony Blair.

Airing Sunday, May 25 ahead of Memorial Day, from 8pm to 9:30pm Eastern Time on PBS, The National Memorial Day Concert has become an American tradition and one of PBS’ highest-rated programs over the years, uniting viewers across the country in remembrance and appreciation of those who gave their lives for our freedoms and serves those who are grieving.

Across stage and screen, the Judd Family has produced some of the entertainment industry's brightest stars: mother-and-daughter Naomi and Wynonna Judd made up the five-time-Grammy-winning country music duo The Judds, who were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022, while half-sister Ashley Judd is a famous actress known for films like Double Jeopardy, Kiss the Girls, Heat, A Time to Kill and Where the Heart Is, among others. And tonight, a new four-part Lifetime docuseries will delve into the talents, traumas and tragedies at the core of the Judds.

"From Naomi’s beginnings in Kentucky as a young teen mom, then known as Dianna, struggling to survive with her young daughters, the doc illustrates how the famous country music mother-daughter duo of Naomi and Wynonna Judd came to be and where Ashley stood at the height of Naomi and Wynonna’s fame," reads the documentary's official synopsis, per Lifetime. "Untold truths emerge, illustrating what tied them together, and what also drove them apart."

The first installment, entitled "A Mother's Smile," unlocks the mysteries surrounding Naomi Judd's 2022 suicide—she tragically died just a day before she and daughter Wynona were set to join the Country Music Hall of Fame—and examines her past as she struggled to make ends meet as a single mother in 1970s Hollywood.

Each of the four parts will feature intimate interviews with members of the larger Judd family—along with Wynonna and Ashley, viewers will hear from Naomi’s widower Larry Strickland and the late star's close friends and colleagues, including Reba McEntire and Don Potter. The doc will also be padded out with rare family footage and photos, unreleased songs, and voicemails that the Judd women left for one another over the years.

The Judd Family: Truth Be Told will be released as a two-night event on Lifetime: the first two installments kick off on Saturday, May 10 at 8pm to 10pm Eastern Time, with the final two episodes to follow on Sunday, May 11 beginning at 8pm.

It’s always a treat when one of the best performers of all time gifts fans with a treat, and Usher is doing just that by debuting the concert film Usher: Rendezvous in Paris, now streaming on BET Plus.

Over the last few years, the living music legend has seen a well-deserved resurgence in his career. As a fan, I can attest to his music catalog being incredibly impressive, only arguably eclipsed by his knack for performing. I attended one of his concerts during the Usher: Past Present Future tour last year, and I’m still mesmerized by the show. The music, combined with the dancing and special guests, was top-notch. And now those who didn’t get to attend one of those tour dates or never made it to one of his highly popular Vegas dates have the opportunity to see him do one of the things he does best — entertain.

“What I love in storytelling is a strong outsider story," Rogan told Deadline.
"When you think about ABBA and cut through all the kitsch and costumes you realize there is this band that did something that no other band had done before or since. As a non-anglophone band singing in their second language they conquered the world.”

On October 17, 1974, country-music legend Willie Nelson kicked off the pilot episode of PBS's Austin City Limits with a rendition of his classic "Whiskey River." Five decades later Austin City Limits is now the longest-running music series in American television history, showcasing popular music legends and innovators from every genre and inspiring Texas's fan-favorite, annual Austin City Limits Music Festival.

And to celebrate the golden jubilee of the trailblazing live music series, PBS is airing one heck of a concert tonight: Austin City Limits Celebrates 50 Years premieres tonight, April 4 at 9pm Eastern Time on PBS.

Hosted by Austin-based actors Jared and Genevieve Padalecki (Walker, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls), the two-hour concert special — which was filmed on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at ACL’s studio home, ACL Live at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin — will see some of the brightest stars in the show’s five-decade history return to the fabled ACL stage.

Among the illustrious lineup is Chris Stapleton, Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr. joined by Eve Monsees, Billy Strings featuring Sierra Hull and Zach Top, Indigo Girls, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Brandy Clark, Rufus Wainwright, The Mavericks, Ángela Aguilar, Cam and Lloyd Maines & the ACL All-Stars, with appearances by Trio Los Panchos and Austin’s Tosca String Quartet. The Grand Ole Opry is celebrating 100 years and country music stars are coming out to celebrate it in Opry 100: A Live Celebration. The three-hour live event, hosted by Blake Shelton, takes place Wednesday, March 19, from 8-11 pm ET on NBC, with the event simulcast live on Peacock. (It will be tape delayed for West Coast viewers.)

The Grand Ole Opry is a live country-music radio broadcast out of Nashville, Tenn. It holds the record as the longest running radio show in the country. The very first episode was broadcast in November 1925 by creator and host George D. Hay, under its original name, WSM Barn Dance. Hay was joined by a 77-year-old fiddle player named Uncle Jimmy Thompson. It wasn't until 1927 that it became known as Grand Ole Opry.

Featuring performers from all corners of the country music world, the Grand Ole Opry highlights bluegrass, Americana, gospel and folk music along with country hits on the latest music charts. Membership is highly exclusive, with about 225 acts who have been members over the years. Becoming a member of the Opry is one of the highest honors for country stars.

Some of country music's biggest moments happened at the Opry, including the debut of Hank Williams and an appearance by Elvis Presley. Johnny Cash, who was an Opry member, met his wife, June Carter Cash, at the Ryman Auditorium where the Opry was originally recorded, and during one unforgettable performance broke all of the footlights on the stage.

Opry 100: A Live Celebration will take over the One Chicago block on March 19, but Chicago Med season 10, Chicago Fire season 13 and Chicago P.D. season 12 will be back on March 26 with new episodes.

And if you're looking for more ways to celebrate the Opry, it's worth mentioning that it's Grand Ole Opry Night on The Masked Singer season 13, airing at 8 pm ET/PT on Fox.

Ringo Starr is still rocking out, and music fans are in for a special treat as the former Beatle and legendary musician has a brand new TV concert special, Ringo & Friends at The Ryman, that is airing tonight, March 10, at 8 pm ET/PT on CBS.

Taped back in January at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., Ringo & Friends at The Ryman sees Starr performing songs from his catalog, including classics from The Beatles all the way up through his most recent album, Look Up, blending classic rock with country music, something he explains on the special has been an influence on him his entire life.

In addition to T Bone Burnett helping Starr give some of his classics like “With a Little Help From My Friends,” “Yellow Submarine” and “Don’t Pass Me By” a country flare, a number of other big-name musicians are taking part in the concert. Joining Starr on stage are Sheryl Crow, Rodney Crowell, Mickey Guyton, Emmylou Harris, Sarah Jarosz, Jamey Johnson, Brenda Lee, Larkin Poe, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, The War And Treaty, Jack White and more.

Proceeds from the concert are being donated to the American Red Cross and those impacted by the California wildfires.

It might be the film industry's biggest night, but ABC is leaving a little room for some music, too — directly following tonight's live telecast of the 97th annual Academy Awards, the alphabet network will air a special preview of American Idol season 23 and give fans an early introduction to this season's new judges' panel, which features a very familiar face.

Yes, for the first time in the franchise's history, an American Idol alum is officially joining the judging panel, with season four winner and eight-time Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood pulling up a chair beside returning judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to give her firsthand expertise to the next generation of talents vying for a shot at Idol stardom. (Longtime host Ryan Seacrest is also back this season.) Tonight's 30-minute sneak peek, which is set to air at 10:30pm Eastern Time (if the Oscars are on time, of course), will also give viewers a first look at this year's round of auditions and the talented singers and musicians potentially competing this season.

“Carrie Underwood is the first American Idol alum ever to join the judging panel. Her global superstar status as the most successful Idol winner to date makes her a perfect fit for the show,” Megan Wolflick, showrunner and executive producer of American Idol, said in a press release. “She embodies the true spirit of Idol as she herself is the definition of the Cinderella story. Tony Award winner Joaquina Kalukango — best known for playing Nelly O'Brien in the Broadway musical Paradise Square and for portraying Kaneisha in Slave Play — stars as the two-time Grammy-winning singer and music legend Gloria Gaynor, with Lance Gross starring as Gloria’s husband Linwood Simon. Gaynor, who executive produces the 100-minute movie alongside Robin Roberts, also wrote and recorded an original song for the authorized biopic, which spans her acclaimed, five-decade career in the music industry.

Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter, Nick Lachey, AJ McLean — in the late 1990s and early 2000s, these famous fellas were as much pop powerhouses as the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. The era's boy bands like NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, O-Town, LFO, BBMak and more sparked a billion-dollar, globe-spanning cultural phenomenon whose effects are still felt today, what with recent descendants like the Harry Styles-led One Direction and the K-pop behemoth BTS. And tonight, a new documentary is delving into the whole boy band commotion, with direct insights from the groups' members themselves about the highs and lows of being in a world-famous boy band.

Premiering Saturday, February 8, from 8pm to 10pm Eastern Time on The CW, The 90s Boy Band Boom is a captivating oral history of one of pop music’s most iconic eras, exploring the rise of boy bands in the 1990s and early aughts with all of the instant and immense fame, strenuous tour schedules, oddly parasocial fan relationships and sky-high pressure that comes along with being in such popular, generation-defining music groups.

Directed by Amanda Burt (Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, This Is Pop) and co-written by Burt, Stefanie McCarrol and Natalie Schenk, the nostalgia-inducing doc features not only never-before-seen archival footage from the era but also exclusive interviews with some of the performers and personalities who lived through it: NSYNC’s Chris Kirkpatrick, Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell and AJ McLean, 98 Degrees alums Nick and Drew Lachey, former MTV VJ Dave Holmes, music video director Wayne Isham, pop singer Tiffany and choreographer Darrin Dewitt Henson (who created NSYNC's iconic "Bye Bye Bye" dance), among them.

To tune into the premiere of the new The 90s Boy Band Boom documentary tonight at 8pm, you're going to need access to The CW. "Circle of Life," "Hakuna Matata," "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" — these songs not only soundtracked the Disney animated classic The Lion King but also the childhoods of an entire generation. And in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the beloved 1994 Disney flick — which won Oscars for Hans Zimmer's score and Elton John's ballad "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" — you can tune into The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl, a live-to-film concert special that is hitting the Disney Plus platform today, Friday, February 7.

Filmed at the legendary Los Angeles amphitheater last May, the immersive musical experience saw the Hollywood Bowl get theatrically transformed into the Pride Lands, with "a 70-person orchestra, a troupe of skillful dancers, state-of-the-art projection mapping images, and the Broadway show’s award-winning costumes and puppetry giving viewers across the globe a front row seat to the unprecedented musical extravaganza celebrating the world of The Lion King," per Disney.

Among the live performances are a spirited reunion of the original voice cast from the 1994 film, including Jeremy Irons (who memorably played Scar), Nathan Lane (Timon), Jason Weaver (Simba), Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa) and Lebo M, the Grammy-winning South African composer behind The Lion King's iconic opening Zulu chant. (He also helped score the Broadway show and the recent prequel film Mufasa: The Lion King.)

Those O.G. performers will be joined by cast members of the Tony-winning Broadway musical of the same name, including Heather Headley and Bradley Gibson, as well as Billy Eicher from the 2019 live-action The Lion King remake. Special guests North West and EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson will also take the stage for musical numbers, with the latter lending her powerhouse voice to Disney classics like "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?"

To tune into The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl concert special from the comfort of your own home, you're going to need access to Disney Plus. Coming off an incredible 2024 with the smash hit single “Not Like Us” (a song that earned him five Grammys at the 2025 ceremony) and the no. 1 album GNX, Kendrick Lamar goes into the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show with tons of wind in his sails, and fans like me can’t wait to see him perform.

As is the case with nearly every Super Bowl Halftime Show and performer, there’s a lot of mystery surrounding what Kendrick plans to do in his 12-15 minute set. While we do know Grammy-winning artist SZA has been announced to join him, not much else is known about which hits he’ll rap, which songs she’ll sing and which of the pairs many collabs will be on full display in the show. As someone who loves to try and crack a mystery, I opted to take on the challenge of guessing what the Super Bowl setlist will be. Considering Usher’s performance last year consisted of 16 songs and Rihanna’s the year before had 12, I’ve narrowed my mock setlist to 13.

So without further ado, here are my thoughts.

Not Like Us

Of course, “Not Like Us” is making the cut. What started out as a diss track to Drake has easily become the biggest song of Kendrick’s career. Again, it has won five Grammys, topped the Billboard Hot 100, set a record for the number of weeks at no. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart and became a cultural phenomenon that couldn’t be stopped. Now despite Drake’s legal action pertaining to the song, legal experts don’t think courts will stop Kendrick from performing it.

All the Stars featuring SZA

Kendrick and SZA are frequent collaborators and are even headed out on their joint tour later this year. Both on the tour and during the Super Bowl performance we imagine they’ll sing their most critically acclaimed song to date, “All the Stars.” Not only was the track from Black Panther (one of our picks for the best Black movies released in the last 25 years) nominated for four Grammys, but it was also nominated for an Academy Award. It also peaked at no. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.

From Kendrick’s new GNX album, “luther” proves to be their highest-charting collaboration, and with good reason. Relying on a sample from the incomparable Luther Vandross, Kendrick’s lyricism and SZA’s melody propelled the song to no. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and no. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

I have one word for you, “Mustard.” Kendrick screaming the producer’s name on “tv off” has become quite the source of entertainment in pop culture, and has propelled an already great song even further. The GNX track peaked at no. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and no. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

This may not be a concert for GNX, but the album clearly has a few hits for Kendrick. The lead single from the album is up tempo and can definitely rise to the energy of the Super Bowl. Plus, it’s rather popular and peaked at no. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Alright

From his third studio album To Pimp a Butterfly, “Alright” may not have climbed as high on Billboard’s Hot 100, but that doesn’t matter as much to me. The song won two Grammys and its overall mantra is one of hope. Most people love to hear messages of encouragement, and believing Kendrick recognizes that, I think you can expect to hear a snippet of the track.

HUMBLE

With DAMN. being his Pulitzer Prize and Grammy-winning album, I strongly believe you can expect to see Kendrick perform a few hits from it, including “HUMBLE.” It’s very catchy, a no. 1 Billboard Hot 100 track and it has lots of energy to keep viewers entertained. In past live performances of the song, he put on quite the show, so I’m hoping he does the same for the Super Bowl.

DNA

Again from DAMN. and again, a high-charting song (reaching no. 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100), “DNA” gives the electricity you want in a Super Bowl performance. It inspires listeners to be proud of their background and heritage, and who doesn’t like a feel-good song like that?

LOYALTY (but NOT featuring Rihanna)

Like I said, DAMN. has hits, and “LOYALTY” is another one, having cracked Billboard’s Hot 100. No doubt the song’s popularity was propelled by the superstardom of Rihanna, but sadly, if Kendrick includes the number in his Super Bowl setlist, I don’t envision her joining the stage with him.

LOVE featuring Zacari

Final selection from the DAMN. album, I’m going with “LOVE.” Not only did it reach no. 11 on Billboard’s Hot 100, but it also features his former TDE label mate Zacari. Considering how proud Kendrick has always been of his work with a label he called home for almost 17 years, I think you can expect more than SZA to appear on stage.

B*tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe

While one of Lamar’s slower tracks, the lyrics and melody of this earlier hit song from him are enough to occupy viewers’ attention. He’ll likely not sing much of it, but just enough to remind fans how far he’s come in his career.

30 for 30 by SZA featuring Kendrick Lamar

While there’s a chance SZA performs one of her solo tracks, I’m betting she decides instead to go with a song where she’s the lead and Kendrick is the featured artist. There’s no better choice than her recent release, “30 for 30.” It’s more up tempo than most of her songs and it likely transitions better with the rest of the setlist I envision for Kendrick. Its current position on the Billboard Hot 100 is no. 20.

Denial Is a River by Doechii

This may be my biggest swing, but just hear me out. Doechii is still considered to be one of the new kids on the block, but she’s earned Kendrick’s respect as he’s called her one of the “hardest out” (talking about her artistry). Additionally, she’s on Kendrick’s former label TDE and is coming off a big Grammy win and performance. Kendrick may be gracious enough to help shine a bigger spotlight on Doechii by allowing her to perform a snippet of her chart-rising hit “Denial Is a River.”

Super Bowl LIX airs live on Fox on Sunday, February 9, at 6.30 pm ET/3.30 pm PT. The Halftime Show is expected to start around 8/8:30 pm ET (5/5:30 pm PT).

Sunday marks the biggest night in music, the 2025 Grammy Awards. Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California have been devastated by a series of wildfires that raged during January, causing incredible damage to communities. As the area looks to rebound and rebuild, The FireAid benefit concert has been organized to support those efforts, enlisting many of the biggest names in music to perform in this special event taking place Thursday, January 30.

The live concert is taking place at two locations in Los Angeles: the Intuit Dome and the KIA Forum. Among the performers lined up for the concert are Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lil Baby, Stevie Wonder, Gracie Abrams, Olivia Rodrigo, Sting, Jelly Roll, Peso Pluma, Tate McRae, Katy Perry, Alanis Morissette, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anderson .Paak, John Fogerty, Stephen Stills, Dave Matthews Band & John Mayer, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Dawes, No Doubt, The Black Crowes, Graham Nash and P!nk.

But you don’t have to be in Los Angeles to experience this concert, as The FireAid benefit concert is going to be available to stream across a multitude of platforms, including many free ones.

Fans around the world can watch (or listen) the concert live starting at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT, starting with the performances from the KIA Forum, the continuing at 10:30 pm ET/7:30 pm PT with the lineup at the Intuit Dome. Saturday Night Live may be known first and foremost as a sketch comedy show, but from the very first episode of SNL music has also played an important role in its history. That history is going to be front and center in a brand new documentary, Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music, which airs on Monday, January 27, on NBC starting at 8 pm ET/PT.

Co-directed by Questlove and Oz Rodriguez, the full-length documentary (it’s taking up the entire three-hour NBC primetime block on January 27, Ladies & Gentlemen features untold stories behind the “culture-defining, groundbreaking and newsmaking musical performances,” as NBC describes it, from SNL’s first 50 years.

SNL put this documentary in good hands. While Questlove may be best known for his time with The Roots, he is also an Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker for Summer of Soul. Rodriguez, meanwhile, has a lot of experience directing segments and specials for SNL, while some of his other credits include TV shows like Nobody Wants This and Goosebumps: The Vanishing.

This is just part of the massive celebration that has been going on for SNL’s 50th anniversary. Earlier this month the four-part documentary SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, executive produced by Morgan Neville, premiered on Peacock. While no one directly associated with SNL was involved, we also got Saturday Night in fall 2024, a movie that retold the events of the Saturday Night Live premiere episode. Finally, the celebration is set to cap off with a primetime SNL 50th anniversary special on Sunday, February 16, on NBC.

You already know Avicii: the Swedish DJ and record producer is an enduring icon in the EDM genre thanks to hit tracks like "Levels," "Wake Me Up," "Silhouettes," "Hey Brother" and “I Could Be the One," among others. But a new Netflix documentary — dropping today, December 31, on the streamer — will invite viewers to better get to know the man behind those famous beats.

Directed by Swedish filmmaker Henrik Burman, Avicii – I’m Tim chronicles the career and creative ups and downs of Tim Bergling, "a shy and insecure boy who, without realizing it, suddenly created one of the world’s most loved artists — Avicii," per Netflix. The 95-minute doc is powered by never-before-seen archive footage and interviews with not only Avicii's close colleagues and collaborators like Chris Martin, Nile Rodgers and David Guetta, but also with Bergling himself, before his untimely death by suicide in April 2018 at the age of 28.

"Through unique home movies and a huge private archive, we get to follow Tim on a winding journey through life - from the very first breath at the maternity ward in Stockholm in 1989 to the tragic end in Oman in 2018," reads a Netflix press release. "This is a film where Tim himself is the narrator and he shares his inner self in a way we haven't heard before. Through himself and everyone close to him - family, artist colleagues and best friends - we get to know Tim - the boy behind Avicii - for the first time."

Avicii - I'm Tim lands on Netflix alongside Avicii - My Last Show, a concert movie of Bergling's last show in Ibiza's Ushuaïa, offering fans a chance to relive his final performance. From exciting wins to unexpected performances, the Grammy Awards has seen plenty of memorable moments across its 65-year history. And you can revisit some of those moments with a new CBS special, Grammy Greats: The Most Memorable Moments, airing tonight, December 29 at 9pm Eastern Time.

The second of two year-end specials from The Recording Academy — Grammy Greats: The Stories Behind the Songs premiered on CBS on Friday, December 27 — Grammy Greats: The Most Memorable Moments is jam-packed with newly recorded interviews, previously aired performances, iconic artist duets, and a never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes look at how those special Grammy moments are created for music's biggest night.

Cohosted by CBS Mornings' Gayle King and five-time Grammy winning- songwriter-producer Jimmy Jam, the two-hour special will feature appearances from popular musical artists including Dua Lipa, St. Vincent, Annie Lennox, Luke Combs, LL Cool J, Keith Urban, Jennifer Hudson, Brandi Carlile, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, Melissa Etheridge, and Ricky Martin.

One interesting segment from tonight's special centers on the Grammy's annual In Memoriam tradition, with a portion of each ceremony paying musical respects to artists who passed during that given year. Talking to Variety, Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich offered insights into that recurring segment: "I know it’s probably morbid to take credit for In Memoriam, but the truth of the matter is, we invented the idea of putting music in the In Memoriam. And it goes back to the Clash tribute that we did (in 2003, after Joe Strummer’s death)...it gave me a really good excuse to put Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Dave Grohl and Little Steven together on a stage. It was spectacular, and then I liked it and said, 'OK, we gotta keep doing it.'"

"I remember the ones that a lot of people don’t remember, like when we did Warren Zevon with 'Keep Me in Your Heart' and I put together a bunch of singer-songwriters," Ehrlich continued. "Then one year I had Bonnie [Raitt] and Billy Preston saluting Ray Charles, and there was another year I had Bonnie and Alicia doing Etta James. So it was fertile, and I loved doing that segment (for the new special)."

The Grammy category for "Song of the Year" is like a time capsule, and tonight CBS is opening that musical memory box with Grammy Greats: The Stories Behind the Songs, one of two new specials centered on the Recording Academy's prestigious annual awards. I love talking to artists about songs. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve sat with Elton, and then this year Bernie (Taupin) because of the Gershwin show — it just gave me a whole new reason to get chills down my spine, hearing them talk about these songs, and Bernie in particular talking about the lyrics of these songs. It’s just things I never knew. I mean, we read all those books, but there’s something different about just actually hearing them talk about ’em."

Erlich added: "I can’t imagine there are many people that are going to tune the show in that aren’t gonna know every song that I did a piece about. These songs are ubiquitous. They’re truly part of our DNA."

The "Song of the Year" special will be joined this weekend by Grammy Greats: The Most Memorable Moments, which was also executive produced by Erlich and will air on CBS this Sunday night at 9pm ET. Tonight, the Kennedy Center Honors returns for the 47th year to celebrate the lifetime achievements of some of America’s greatest artists. With 2023 honoree Queen Latifah back as this year's master of ceremonies, the 2024 gala follows tradition in that it will tribute five deserving honorees at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C, but this year's proceedings will make history as the first time that an institution, rather than an individual, is one of the recipients.

The 47th annual gala will honor Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band The Grateful Dead; Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt; Academy Award winning director and producer Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now); Cuban-American jazz trumpeter and pianist, Arturo Sandoval; and the iconic theater and live performance venue, The Apollo Theater in New York City.

The ceremony traditionally features personalized tributes and testimonials to the honorees from their fellow artists, and this year was no exception. Emmylou Harris and Dave Matthews performed a cover of Bonnie Raitt's "Angel from Montgomery," with Sheryl Crowe also giving a speech about Raitt's influence on her. Actors Miles Teller and Chloe Sevigny and talk show host David Letterman came out to toast the Grateful Dead, while Coppola received praises from past Kennedy Center honorees, including Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino and George Lucas.

Performers honoring Arturo Sandoval included brass man Trombone Shorty, flamenco dancer Timo Nunez and pianist Chucho Valdez from Sandoval's original band. And the influence and history of the Apollo was represented with musical numbers by The War and Treaty, tap dancing by Savion Glover and stories from comedy legend Dave Chappelle.

The world first heard that iconic guitar riff and kicky drum lick from "Blister in the Sun" forty years ago and tonight, PBS is celebrating the seminal album that that song came from, as well as the band who created it. The music special Violent Femmes: 40th Anniversary with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra is making its national debut on PBS stations across the country on Friday, December 13 at 9pm Eastern Time, with an encore broadcast scheduled for 10:15pm ET.

Recorded at the Bradley Symphony Center on October 3, 2023, during the Wisconsin-based band's big 40th anniversary tour, the concert sees founding members Gordon Gano (guitar, lead vocals) and Brian Ritchie (bass, backing vocals) joined by their longtime bandmates—multi-instrumentalist Blaise Garza and drummer John Sparrow—as well as the prestigious Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to tear through hits from the band's 1983 self-titled debut album, including “Blister in the Sun,” “Kiss Off,” “Add It Up” and “Gone Daddy Gone.”

A true Wisconsin-local band, Violent Femmes formed in 1981; legend has is that the acoustic punk band was busking on the streets of Milwaukee, WI, when they were discovered performing outside the city's Oriental Theatre, where The Pretenders would be playing later that evening. That band's lead singer, Chrissy Hynde, reportedly invited Gordon and the gang to open for them that night. Their debut album Violent Femmes dropped two years later, and the rest is history, with the record going on to reach platinum status.

Deck the halls! The Wonderful World of Disney Holiday Spectacular is returning for its ninth year, with all-star musical performances coming at you straight from Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California.

Airing Sunday, December 1 at 8pm Eastern Time on ABC, the holiday season staple will be emceed by Dancing with the Stars co-hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro—who will share the tale of how the Disney Parks kicks off the most magical holiday ever—and will be narrated by Frozen star Kristen Bell.

Live performances will include Elton John singing "Your Song," John Legend tackling "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," Seth MacFarlane and Liz Gillies dueting on "White Christmas," Pentatonix performing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," and Carly Pearce crooning "Let It Snow." It will also feature the world premieres of new original music from two much-anticipated Disney flicks: Auliʻi Cravalho will sing "Beyond" from Moana 2 (which hit theaters on November 27), and Anika Noni Rose will perform “Milele,” from Mufasa: The Lion King (which will have its theatrical debut on December 20).

Also taking the stage will be Ava Max, Leslie Odom, Jr. and the Imani Milele Choir and SEVENTEEN. And, this being Disney, you'll also be able to enjoy appearances from some of the kingdom's most beloved characters, like Mickey Mouse and his merry band of buddies.

Even if you don't know the man Henry Mancini, you definitely know the music—from "The Pink Panther Theme" to "Moon River," the American composer and conductor is behind some of the most instantly recognizable scores in Hollywood history. One of the greatest songmen in all of film (think Breakfast at Tiffanys, Days of Wine and Roses, Victor/Victoria and Charade, among many others), Mancini was the recipient of four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe and a whopping twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.

And tonight, PBS pays tribute to the seminal composer with Henry Mancini 100 at the Hollywood Bowl, a celebration of what would have been Mancini's 100th year. Airing Friday, November 29 at 9pm Eastern Time on PBS, the special concert will kick off the 2024 season of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra—Mancini conducted at the famed California venue 29 times. Overseen by conductor Thomas Wilkins, the concert will feature performances by Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, Grammy-winning crooner Michael Bublé, Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz as well as Henry Mancini's own daughter, Monica Mancini. Erivo's Wicked co-star Jeff Goldblum will serve as the event's host.

Along with live renditions of Mancini's most famous tunes—accompanied by archival footage and clips from those beloved films and TV shows—the program will also go behind the scenes of the recording of the 100^th anniversary album featuring John Williams, Arturo Sandoval, Herbie Hancock, Gustavo Dudamel, the LA Phil, Stevie Wonder, Lizzo, James Galway and the last televised appearance of the late, great Quincy Jones.

A spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is widely considered music's highest honor, and this year's illustrious nominees are coming together alongside live performers and special guests to celebrate the momentous occasion. You'll get to tune into every unforgettable musical minute as the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony airs tonight, October 19, live from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio. 

Ranging from the Queen of R&B, Mary J. Blige, to the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, the 2024 class of inductees are "a diverse group of legendary artists spanning multiple generations and genres" that "represent the power of musical creativity and the ability to shape the sound and style of popular music over the past several decades," the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame said in a statement. Fellow 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees include pop icon Cher, rootsy rockers Dave Matthews Band, sunny singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffet, soul-funk band Kool & The Gang, legendary vocalist Dionne Warwick and acclaimed hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, among others. 

Along with electric live performances from those legends, the ceremony will also feature a star-studded slate of special presenters and performers to honor the occasion, including Dr. Dre, Dua Lipa, James Taylor, Julia Roberts, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, Demi Lovato, Busta Rhymes and Slash. “Every year the biggest names in music, film and culture step onto the stage at our ceremony to pay tribute to the iconic inductees whose music has defined generations," said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “These are once in a lifetime moments created that will be remembered forever.”

The Induction Ceremony will stream live coast to coast on Disney Plus on Saturday, October 19 at 7pm and will be available to stream following the ceremony. What happens in Elton John: Never Too Late

Made by Elton John's husband David Furnish and award-winning director R J Cutler, the film Elton John: Never Too Late takes us on a journey through Sir Elton John’s life and career. It documents his rise to fame, childhood as Reg Dwight and troubled moments as well as his life now that he is happily married and a father to sons Zachery and Elijah. It culminates with his historic send-off as he performs for the last time in Los Angeles.

The 1970s are looked at in depth, and the documentary reveals the highs of this purple patch were accompanied by crushing lows in his personal life. 

"I desperately didn’t want to be the Elton that I’d become," says the 77-year-old. "There was an emptiness within me. I could have fun, but when I went home at night, it didn’t really satisfy me. The only thing in my life at that point was work. But everyone thought my life was perfect!"

While the feature-length special centres on his early 1970s career, the film also takes Elton back in time to reflect on family life growing up in the north London suburb of Pinner. 

"There were lots of arguments," Sir Elton says. "I was frightened of both my parents. My whole childhood was full of fear."

However, playing the piano provided a welcome distraction for the young Reginald Dwight, as Elton was born, and after studying at London’s Royal Academy of Music, he dedicated himself to pursuing a career in this industry. And it was a happy accident that brought one of rock music’s all-time great songwriting partnerships together, when the budding musician was handed an envelope full of lyrics by Bernie Taupin, who would become Elton’s long-term collaborator, in 1967.  

"‘It boggles the mind!" says Elton. "That was the biggest piece of serendipity that I could possibly have, and Bernie was the link to whatever was going to happen!"

Soon afterwards, Elton decided it was time to change his name. "Reg was never going to make it," he smiles. ‘“Here he is, Reg Dwight!” That sounded boring, but Elton John was different!"

After scoring his first hit single in the UK with 1970’s Your Song, Elton crossed the Atlantic in a bid to crack America, and it was playing at LA’s famous Troubadour club the same year that kickstarted his career Stateside. 

"The next day, we got incredible press reviews, word spread, and the album went soaring up the charts," he recalls. "I thought we might be quite successful in America, but never as successful as that!’

His reputation as a live performer grew, and Elton, who would become known for his flamboyant outfits, says that being on stage has always been a transformative experience for him. ‘I love performing!’ he says. "It’s electric, fulfilling, almost an out-of-body experience. You really feel free as a bird, and you can do anything you want."

But while he was hitting career milestones, including the unprecedented feat of having successive albums enter America’s Billboard chart at No.1, Elton’s unhappy private life, and the gulf between his public image and real self, were leading him to the pivotal moment when he came out as bisexual in a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone magazine. 

"I was so tired of hiding away," recalls the star who, in 1992, would tell the same publication that he was ‘quite comfortable being gay’. "That was a definitive time in my life because I was being honest. And the whole point of this documentary, for me, was that the truth should always be told."

All about Sir Elton John 

Sir Elton John was born Reg Dwight in north London. He shot to fame in 1970 when his first hit single Your Song reached the Top 10 in the British and American charts. Known for his platform boots, glasses and flamboyant costumes, during the 1970s he produced hit after hit, including Bennie and the Jets, Tiny Dancer, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Rocket Man, which later became the title of his biopic, which starred Taron Egerton as the iconic showman. 

Having been married, to Renate Blauel, Elton came out as gay in 1988 and began a relationship with David Furnish in 1993. The pair, who are now married and have two sons, created the Elton John AIDS Foundation which has raised more than $600 million to support HIV-related programs in 55 different countries. Elton’s career has spanned five decades and over that time he’s collaborated with artists such as Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, George Michael and Dua Lipa. His final tour was a mammoth three-year affair consisting of more than 300 concerts worldwide. 

Co-director R.J. Cutler shares behind the scenes stories from Elton John: Never Too Late…

His previous subjects have included former US president Bill Clinton, Hollywood acting great Marlon Brando, Vogue editor Dame Anna Wintour and singer-songwriter Billie Eilish. But for American film-maker R.J Cutler, making Elton John: Never Too Late was a real labour of love. Here, in an exclusive interview, he talks about working with Sir Elton and Elton’s husband David Furnish, who co-directed the film, on this passion project… 

R.J, why did you want to make a documentary about Elton? 
R.J Cutler says" This is a very personal film. I grew up a massive Elton fan, and the first concert I attended was in 1974, when John Lennon joined him on stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden."

How did you find working with Elton? 
"He couldn’t have been more welcoming and supportive. During our conversations it became clear that this would be a film about mortality – hence the title Never Too Late."

What makes him such a compelling subject?
"We love his music but we also love the man, because of the choices he’s made. He’s almost like Mozart, with the gift he has to create music. But he didn’t know how to be the human being he wanted to be. That’s what makes it such a powerful story." 

Do you think people fully appreciate Elton’s huge success in the early 1970s?
"They certainly will as a result of this film! It’s hard to fathom that anybody could release 13 albums in a five-year period, seven of which go to No.1."

Is there a piece of archive footage you found that particularly stands out?
"The Cliff Jahr [the Rolling Stone journalist Elton came out as bisexual to] tapes are a revelation. It’s 1976 and Elton comes out of the closet at a time when homophobia was the norm, and he is the biggest star in the world."

He’s a thrilling performer to watch. What do you think being on stage meant for him?
"That was the easy part for him. His last great addiction was being on stage, where the love filled him in a way that he needed, until he found David, and they fathered their kids."

You know him as by his hip-hop alter ego Ol’ Dirty Bastard, but a new music documentary will give you insights into the man born as Russell Tyrone Jones. Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys—which premieres tonight, August 25, on A&E at 9pm Eastern Time—is the first authorized doc about the Grammy-nominated musician and legendary founding member of the iconic hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, who tragically died of an accidental drug overdose at age 35 in 2004. 

"Born Russell Jones in 1968 in Brooklyn, NY, ODB developed a unique persona and rhyme style that set him apart from his contemporaries. In his short 35 years of life and long after his passing, ODB has had a significant influence on a whole generation of fans and performers," reads the film's synopsis, per A&E. "With exclusive rights to a never-before-seen personal archive shot by his wife, Icelene Jones, and access to his closest friends and family, this culture-defining special humanizes ODB as a man, a father, and a husband like never before."

Co-directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sam Pollard (MLK/FBI, Black Art: In The Absence of Light) and his son Jason Pollard, the two-hour special features interviews with Mariah Carey, Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, ODB’s wife Icelene Jones, his son Bar-Sun Jones, and more, "providing an intimate picture of ODB’s life and reflecting on his lasting impact on music and culture."

Icelene Jones said in a statement: “I am so happy to have brought this documentary about my husband’s life to the screen. He was and is an inspiration to my family, children, and fans across the world. It’s been amazing to work on this project with my partners at Four Screens, as well as Pulse and A&E.” She added: "Like all of hip-hop, I have missed his energy. This project has let me know that he is alive and well in all of our hearts."

The global phenomenon that is K-pop descended on Los Angeles this weekend with KCON LA 2024—the original convention dedicated to bringing “All Things Hallyu” to the American fan base—and tonight, July 28, you'll be able to get a front-row seat of all of the pop-star fun with a primetime airing of musical performances directly from the convention. 

KCON, the world's largest K-pop fan and artist festival, took place at the Crypto.com Arena, L.A. Convention Center and Gilbert Lindsay Plaza in downtown Los Angeles from Friday, July 26, to Sunday, July 28 with three nights full of fan activities, artist panels and live performances from some of the genre's biggest names, including Zerobaseone, NCT 127, Stayc, Jeon Somi, Zico, and I-Land 2. 

And on Sunday, July 28 at 8pm Eastern Time, The CW will broadcast from the festival, marking the first time a K-pop performance show will be broadcast on national TV in primetime. The special will be hosted by South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun (One Ordinary Day, Queen of Tears) and will feature special appearances by singers and songwriters like Bibi, Hyolyn, Ini, ME:I and TWS, as well as Korean-American comedienne-actress Awkwafina, along with the main lineup of performers. There will also be a pre-recorded musical number from South Korean boy band ENHYPEN.

Offering a backstage pass to some of the biggest names in hard rock, the A&E Biography series has been airing musical documentaries on the likes of Alice Cooper, Bret Michaels and Twister Sister's Dee Snider all month long. The nostalgia-inducing specials go behind-the-scenes to the artists' humble beginnings, their journeys to fame and the iconic music they made along the way, featuring exclusive interviews with the artists themselves as well as those close to them. 

And tonight, the cable network is rolling out two new rocking docs, this time shining a spotlight on Sammy Hagar and Sebastian Bach, respectively. The head-banging evening kicks off on Sunday, June 30 at 9pm Eastern Time with "Biography: Sammy Hagar," tracing the performer's path from childhood poverty to global fame, from his time as the lead singer of the band Montrose, to his successful solo career and later replacing David Lee Roth as the vocalist of the iconic rock band Van Halen. 

The hourlong special "explores how Hagar helped Van Halen get their first ever number one hit, uncovers what led a band that was on the top of world to suddenly split apart, and how Hagar has continued to leave his mark on the hard rock genre," per the network. 

Immediately following the Hagar special tonight is "Biography Sebastian Bach” at 10pm Eastern Time, focused on the life and career of the former Skid Row singer. The 60-minute doc chronicles Bach as he grew up in small-town Canada to become the bad boy of hard rock in the 1980s and 1990s, exploring his personal struggles and musical impact.

Culture's biggest night is back! The BET Awards 2024 are kicking off tonight, June 30, with a seriously star-studded lineup of performers, presenters and nominees. Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson will return as your emcee for the third year in a row, guiding viewers and attendees through a night of live music from the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Lauryn Hill and her son YG Marley, Ice Spice, Latto, Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Victoria Monét, GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Chlöe and Tyla, among others. 

The 24th annual ceremony — which will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles — will also feature the return of Will Smith to the live music stage, with the Grammy-winning rapper performing his first solo song in five years. "The performances are going to blow us all away. We got Will Smith, guys. I am so excited to see what he has up his sleeve," Henson teased to PEOPLE. 

There will also be a tribute performance in honor of R&B legend Usher, who is receiving this year's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, given to those artists whose "special achievements and distinguished public service” have "powerfully shifted culture and the entertainment industry." Past recipients have included Prince, Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah and Lionel Richie.

Also taking to the stage during tonight's show are presenters like Andra Day, Colman Domingo, Niecy Nash-Betts and DC Young Fly. They will hand out awards in categories like "Best Group," "Video of the Year," "Best New Artist," "Best International Act" and more. 

Leading the pack for BET Award nominations this year is Drake with seven overall nods; Nicki Minaj follows closely behind with six nominations, while J Cole, Sexyy Red, SZA and Victoria Monét each earned five. Beyoncé, Usher, Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, Doja Cat and Tyla have four nods apiece.

The BET Awards 2024 will air live on BET on Sunday, June 30, at 8 pm Eastern Time. The ceremony will simulcast on Comedy Central, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Pop, TVLand and VH1. It will also be available to livestream to cable subscribers on BET.com and BET+. Following a billion-dollar restoration by Ford Motor Company, Detroit's once-abandoned Michigan Central trail station will reopen its doors to the public as a dining and shopping hub. And to celebrate the grand opening, a lineup of iconic Detroit performers and other famous musicians are taking the stage for a concert special, airing tonight on NBC. 

The sold-out, 90-minute outdoor concert took place on June 6 with a live audience of 20,000 people, but Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central, an hourlong broadcast of the performance, will air Sunday, June 9 at 7pm Eastern Time on NBC. 

On the star-studded music roster are Michigan natives like Diana Ross, Big Sean, Jack White, Illa J, Kierra Sheard, Theo Parrish, Slum Village, the Clark Sisters, Sky Jetta and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, with appearances from the likes of Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders as well. Non-Michigan-born famous folk will also appear during tonight's airing, including performers Common, Fantasia, Melissa Etheridge and Jelly Roll, and presenters Mike Epps and Sophia Bush.

Though he was an executive producer of the concert, Detroit-born rapper Eminem—who famously depicted his Michigan roots in the 2002 semi-autobiographical drama film 8 Mile—was not scheduled to perform with the rest of the musical acts, but surprised attendees by closing the show with a set that included songs like "Houdini" and "Welcome 2 Detroit." 

“Six years ago, we gathered here, and we dreamt of what was possible. We dared to dream that this station, which had become a symbol of a broken city, could once again shine as the symbol of the Motor City,” Bill Ford, executive chairman for Ford Motor Company, told the crowd before Diana Ross opened the show with a spirited rendition of her classic “I’m Coming Out.”

To tune into Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central, you're going to need access to NBC. Turn the lights back on, CBS is giving fans another chance to watch its recent Billy Joel concert special after a programming error abruptly cut the original airing a few minutes short for many viewers. The reairing of Billy Joel: The 100th — Live at Madison Square Garden is set for Friday, April 19, at 9 pm ET/PT on CBS.

The special originally aired on Sunday, April 14, as a two-hour special in celebration of Joel's record-breaking 100th consecutive performance at Madison Square Garden and saw the iconic musician perform many of his classic songs. He closed out with what is arguably his most popular tune, "Piano Man," however the song was cut off midway through, leading many fans to voice their displeasure on social media.

CBS released a statement saying it was a programming error for those in Eastern and Central time zones, apologizing to both Billy Joel and his fans, and subsequently announcing details about the reairing.

This changes up CBS's Friday night primetime lineup a bit, with the special airing instead of Fire Country season 2 and Blue Bloods season 14. The good news is that it was always the plan for those shows to air reruns on April 19, so the schedule tweak is not impacting any new episodes of the popular CBS dramas. If you're a fan of the other CBS Friday show, S.W.A.T., a new episode of S.W.A.T. season 7 is airing in its usual time of 8 pm ET/PT on the network.

Honestly, CBS probably isn't complaining about having to reair the Billy Joel concert special, as the original broadcast of the show was watched by 5.7 million viewers. Per Nielsen viewing data, that makes it the fourth most-watched TV special in 2024 to date, trailing the Oscars, the Grammys and The Golden Globes. It also bested some big music-centric specials from 2023, including Barry Manilow Christmas and Christmas at Graceland.

If you don't want to wait for CBS to reair the special on April 19, Billy Joel: The 100th — Live at Madison Square Garden is available to stream right now on Paramount Plus, but of course, you must be a subscriber in order to watch it.

After a decade of sold-out shows, Billy Joel will end his record-breaking concert residency at New York City's Madison Square Garden in July 2024. But before the Piano Man can perform his swan song at the historic venue, he's inviting everyone to the party via The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden, his first concert special to air on a broadcast network. 

Shot live in March 2024 at Joel's record-breaking 100th consecutive performance of his residency at Madison Square Garden, the concert special will see the Grammy-winning icon perform his classic piano-driven anthems like “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant,” “Vienna,” “Uptown Girl,” “My Life” and, of course, “Piano Man," as well his first new song in 17 years, the recently released single "Turn the Lights Back On."

The history-making MSG show was no doubt a moving one for the native New Yorker, who was born in the Bronx and raised on Long Island. As he shared with the audience during the 100th gig: "We play a lot bigger places. We play similar arenas, but this is The Garden. I first came here when I was a little boy. I think I was about 4, 5 years old. My parents brought me to the circus and the star that year was Gene Autry. He had a big hit with 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.'"

Given the momentous occasion, it's not a shock that Joel had plenty of surprise celebrity guests come out to help him celebrate the 100th show, including comedian Jerry Seinfeld and British rocker Sting, the latter of whom joined in for a rendition of Billy's 1986 track "Big Man on Mulberry Street," followed by a duet of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" by Sting's band, The Police. 

The two-hour special The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden is airing tonight, April 14, on CBS at 9pm Eastern. One of the biggest events in this year's country music calendar is Wednesday, November 8, because that's when the CMA Awards 2023 takes place, celebrating another year of great country music.

This year's Country Music Association Awards has a stacked line-up of attendees. The main way to watch the CMA Awards is by tuning into your local ABC station, as the award show is airing on the network. Only local stations in Eastern and Central time zones are showing it live, at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT. The awards show is airing at 7 pm MT/8 pm PT in local stations in those time zones.

If you don't have a cable subscription or a TV antenna to that receives your local ABC station, then lots of live TV streaming services can help you find a way to stream it over the internet. Fubo, DirecTV, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV all have local ABC stations as part of their bundles.

You can watch the CMA Awards in Australia by using the streaming service Stan, which has announced that it's the official and exclusive broadcaster of the event.

The show is streaming at the same time it takes place in the US: that's on Thursday, November 9, at 11am AEDT.

Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas is produced by Done + Dusted (Beauty & The Beast: A 30th Celebration, John Legend’s A Legendary Christmas with John and Chrissy, The Little Mermaid Live!, the 2012 London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies — and they are the same team behind Apple’s hit Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special. 

Executive producers are Hannah Waddingham, Katy Mullan, Moira Ross, Raj Kapoor and Nick Todisco. This holiday special will be directed by BAFTA Award winner Hamish Hamilton who has put on the music for the Oscars, Grammys, Super Bowl halftime show, plus the London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies.

The 2023 CMA Fest, which was the 50th anniversary of the country music festival, took place between June 8-11. But if you weren't able to be on hand in Nashville for the festivities, ABC is giving you a chance to experience many of the performances and collaborations from the event, with a special hand from Lainey Wilson, Dierks Bentley and Elle King.

This is the 20th consecutive year that CMA has produced a summer concert special.

This is just one component of the 50th anniversary celebration for CMA Fest. It’s once again time for the always fun Essence Festival, and this year the big event helps celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop over the course of three days from June 30 to July 2.

What better way to celebrate hip-hop at a festival that has traditionally served to uplift Black women than have three Grammy-award-winning femcees take to the main stage to headline the occasion. We're talking about Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot and Megan Thee Stallion. In addition to these three hitmakers, there's a good mix of legends and rising stars performing, helping to round out the weekend.

The 2023 CMT Music Awards are coming April 2 and this year's show promises to be one of the biggest and most star-studded events ever. The show features all-star presenters, memorable performances and some of the top names in music honoring the year's hottest performers and performances.

Much like Kate Bush in 2022, Linda Ronstadt is enjoying a moment in 2023 with her song "Long, Long Time" being included in a TV episode. For Bush, her song "Running Up That Hill" in Stranger Things season 4 helped make the 1985 tune the song of summer 2022. Now, Ronstadt is enjoying some similar success after "Long, Long Time" was featured in HBO's The Last of Us.

Spotify News tweeted on Monday, January 30, that streams of "Long, Long Time" increased more than 4900% between 11 pm and midnight ET in the US on Sunday, January 29; the show airs on HBO and HBO Max starting at 9 pm ET/PT.

The song was first released by Ronstandt in 1970 as part of her second album, Silk Purse. The song was her first to appear on the Billboard Top 100 chart, remaining on the chart for 12 weeks and reaching as high as No. 25.

What episode of The Last of Us is 'Long, Long Time' in? 

The Last of Us episode 3 is where we heard "Long, Long Time." To set the scene, Bill (Nick Offerman), a survivalist, has been living alone for years after the events that led to the cordyceps outbreak that turned so much of the population into zombies. One day, he finds Frank (Murray Bartlett) has fallen into one of his traps. Not infected, Frank convinces Bill to let him rest at his house.

After they have lunch, Frank spots Bill's piano and asks if he can play it. He finds a Linda Ronstadt songbook and selects to play "Long, Long Time." He struggles with it, at which point Bill jumps in and plays it beautifully. This eases the tension that both of them (though particularly Bill) have had and the two kiss.

The rest of the episode, fittingly titled "Long, Long Time," chronicles the years they spend together before taking their own lives rather than be faced with the prospect of not being together.

The song is played again at the end of the episode, as Joel and Ellie (who get to Bill and Frank's after they die) drive away. The scene then cuts back to the house, and the open window to the bedroom where Bill and Frank passed away.

Airing this Christmas, the show will focus on many different points in the superstar's life and make use of previously unheard interviews with the star herself in order to tell the story of Tina Turner's relationship with the UK.

On November 14, Disney revealed that Grammy-winning artists Dua Lipa, Kiki Dee and Brandi Carlile would be joining Elton John on stage during his final American performance to help celebrate his extraordinary career.

Music festivals are making a comeback in a big way in 2022, including the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. As major events return to normal (aka in-person), one element of the last two years is sticking around — the ability to live stream music festivals performances from home, which this year’s edition of Bonnaroo is set to do.

Coachella previously offered a live stream via YouTube of performances from its two weekends earlier this year, as will Glastonbury 2022 for UK audiences (available through a VPN for those outside the UK). Bonnaroo is one of three major US music festivals this summer that is going to be available through live streams — the other two being Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits — after a deal with Hulu.

So, for music lovers not making their way to Manchester, Tenn., here is what you need to know about how to watch the 2022 Bonnaroo music festival.

Bonnaroo is taking place from Thursday, June 16, to Sunday, June 19, this year.

This is the first Bonnaroo music festival since 2019, as the last two years have been cancelled due to the pandemic.

Bonnaroo live streams will be exclusively available on the Hulu streaming service.

Hulu will have one channel for streaming performances on Thursday, June 16, and two live stream channels for Friday through Sunday. You can check out Hulu's official live stream schedule here or below.

Anyone already signed up for Hulu's ad-free service can live stream performances from Bonnaroo. If you are not yet a Hulu subscriber but want to catch the Bonnaroo live streams, there are a handful of ways in which you can sign up. First is by signing up for Hulu as a standalone service (again, requires the ad-free service). Hulu is also included as part of the Disney Bundle, which combines Hulu with Disney Plus and ESPN Plus for a single monthly fee. Lastly, signing up for Hulu with Live TV gets you, as the name suggests, the Hulu streaming service and access to live TV channels.

Unfortunately, if you do not have access to Hulu where you live, you will not be able to watch live streams of the Bonnaroo music festival.

An Audience With Adele can finally be enjoyed by US audiences after previously being shown in the UK.

NBC has just announced that the two-hour special An Audience With Adele is set to premiere on the network on Sunday, March 20 at 9 pm ET. You'll also be able to stream it the following day on Peacock if you're not able to catch the show live.

The special originally aired on ITV on Sunday, November 21, 2021, just two days after the release of 30, her first new album studio album in six years. Filmed at the prestigious London Palladium theatre, it offered fans the chance to see Adele perform some of her greatest hits from the comfort of their own homes.

Throughout the performance, Adele also chatted to the members of her live audience which included close friends and family alongside huge celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson, Emma Thompson and Alan Carr. 

Bring some tissues, though, as the special included some truly moving moments such as the heartwarming reunion between Adele and her former English teacher which led to Adele rushing off stage in tears to have her make-up fixed!

An Audience With Adele is now the second Adele special to air in the US, as it follows on from the CBS primetime exclusive, Adele: One Night Only. This performance aired on Sunday, November 14, 2021, and was also available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount Plus. 

Like the upcoming NBC special, One Night Only saw the singer sharing her talents as Adele performed former hits and some of her tracks like "Easy on Me". This special also featured Oprah Winfrey's interview with Adele, where the global star discussed the new album, the stories behind the songs, life after her divorce, her weight loss and raising her son.

An Audience With Adele will air on NBC on Sunday, March 20 at 9 pm ET, and will be made available to stream on Peacock the following day.

One of the most popular bands in music history, Metallica recently celebrated their 40th anniversary with a special two night concert event. The concert took place in San Francisco and tickets were limited, but Metallica fans all over the world were able to tune in to watch the Metallica 40th Anniversary Live concert via Prime Video on Dec. 17 and Dec. 19. If you missed the live stream, you still have a chance to watch the concert on-demand this Christmas, starting on Dec. 24 through Dec. 27.

The on-demand recording of the Metallica 40th Anniversary Live concert will be available to stream from U.S. fans’ homes or via a mobile device via The Coda Collection, which is available for as a Prime Video channel that requires a subscription and costs $4.99 per month. For international Metallica fans, they can watch the on-demand concert simply through Prime Video.

However, you need to make sure that your setup is able to play Prime Video. The good news about that is Prime Video is just about everywhere and can be played on a computer, mobile device, a smart TV, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV and the PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles; it is also, of course, available through Amazon Fire TV devices.

From the use of Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines” by two best friends in Shaun of the Dead to “Bellbottoms” by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion serving as the choreographed music during the opening heist and subsequent car chase of Baby Driver, Wright’s ability to use music to punctuate and enhance key moments is second to none among his generation of directors. So it tracks that -- much as Martin Scorsese shifts between fiction and documentary throughout his filmography -- Wright would eventually helm a documentary focused on music. The Sparks Brothers is that result, a fascinating exploration into the cult band Sparks that arguably overstays its welcome but for good reason.

The Sparks Brothers are, despite the title, not named Sparks themselves. That would be Ron and Russell Mael, the two musicians and brothers who created the band Sparks in 1967 and have kept performing ever since. The basic premise of The Sparks Brothers is simple enough to sum up. Though the band has accrued a passionate cult fanbase -- including alternative comics Patton Oswalt and Scott Aukerman, actors Jason Schwartzman and Mike Myers, and musicians Todd Rundgren, Flea, and “Weird” Al Yankovic, all of whom appear in the film -- they’ve never quite broken through to the mainstream. At the very least, The Sparks Brothers aims to educate its audience, about who Sparks is, how they came to be, and how they’ve survived countless mini-eras of modern music, to the point where their latest collaboration, the upcoming musical film Annette from director Leos Carax and starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, may well be one of their most recognized efforts.

At its heart, The Sparks Brothers stands out the same way the band Sparks itself surely stands out. The Mael brothers have equally distinctive looks -- Ron, the keyboardist, has an intentionally gleeful and vaguely menacing air coupled with a mustache recalling (at least as a younger man) none other than Adolf Hitler. (As an older man, his now-pencil-thin mustache recalls that of indie filmmaker John Waters.) Russell, the singer, cuts more of a Bowie-esque vibe, both in his youth and in the present. The way the two men are comfortable walking through their pasts affords The Sparks Brothers a sense of honesty mixed with their general, earned confidence in the power and longevity of their own work. 

If there’s anything wrong with The Sparks Brothers, it’s that when you cut away the flash and flair, the basic premise and layout of the documentary is a fairly standard mix of talking-head interviews, archival footage, and reflections on various albums. And more to the point, the combined result of all this lasts 140 minutes (longer, to note, than any of Wright’s fiction films). For anyone whose awareness of Sparks is limited to, say, being aware that this was a film Wright was making (such as this writer), The Sparks Brothers has a very simple job to do: not just educate people about the band, but make you want to explore their vast discography. And The Sparks Brothers absolutely does that; the band has had so many shifts in their style with such surprisingly catchy hooks that it’d be foolish not to dig into their archives. But after 140 minutes, the style with which Wright lays out all this evidence grows slightly repetitive.

But it’s not for lack of trying. Just as Edgar Wright has brought life and nerve to updates of zombie films, buddy-cop movies, and heist dramas, it’s the way in which the talking-head interviews are handled and the content surrounding those talking heads that makes The Sparks Brothers feel distinctive. The interviews themselves are all in black and white, often with the speaker looking directly at the camera (at least when they’re first revealed). And in between the vast treasure trove of live and music-video performance footage of the Maels, there’s animation and puppetry to help bring the stories of these two men to life. The Sparks Brothers is too long, but you get the sense that the only reason it’s this long to begin with is that Wright -- who appears briefly for an interview and is identified as a fanboy -- is so passionate about Sparks that to cut it any shorter would be tantamount to cutting off a limb.

The Sparks Brothers may not quite whet your whistle if you’re jonesing for a new fiction feature from Edgar Wright. (You still have a few months more to wait for that, with the tantalizing-looking genre film Last Night in Soho.) But even though the shift from fiction to documentary may be slightly bumpy, this new film does what some documentaries struggle to do -- actually inform the audience about something. Ideally, perhaps, the movie would’ve barely cracked the two-hour mark. But Wright’s passion all but jumps off the screen, making the experience of The Sparks Brothers almost as joyful as it must be to discover the band Sparks for the very first time.

When you think of punk music, who do you think of? As a Brit, I'm not trying to get into a "where did it start?" argument. I'm just asking you to close your eyes and think of a punk. Whoever you see, it's unlikely that it's a young Black British-Somalian woman with braces and an afro. That is, unless you're already aware of the radical Poly Styrene, founder and lead singer of the X-Ray Spex. This documentary aims to change that, though, as it highlights her trailblazing career and showcases the huge impact of Marianne Joan Elliott-Said and her punk persona. But the long-awaited film's true power comes from the personal framing, an at times brutal honesty and familial lens that it tells the late punk icon's story through. 

Poly Styrene was a large part of my childhood. Not only was my mother an original British punk who saw X-Ray Spex many times, but I was a chubby kid who didn't feel like I fit in anywhere and who hated the idea of any kind of unfairness or cruelty. And Poly represented everything I wanted to be. She was such a presence in my London childhood that I even performed a version of their hit "When the World Turned Day-Glo" on violin dressed in a bin bag in elementary school alongside my classmates when I was around eight years old. But that's not the case for most people. Even for those who did grow up and love punk, the impact and import of this brilliant Black woman has been erased for decades. Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliche explores all of that and more as her daughter dives into her mother's legacy. 

Made up of stock footage, archival performances, chats with Poly, audio interviews with those who knew her, and actress Ruth Negga reading the late singer's writings, the documentary is entirely engrossing and feels appropriately homemade. It's both a labor of love and a voyage of self-exploration for her only child, Celeste Bell, who acts as a partial narrator and framing device. As much as this is a story about a young Black woman from Brixton who changed punk, it's also about a mother and her daughter, including all the realities that come with it, both good and bad.

That's at the heart of what makes Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliche such a fresh and powerful feature. It evades the surely enticing opportunity to hero worship Poly instead opting to make a film about the whole woman she was. Beginning with her childhood and family, we journey through her life with a solid focus on her career and impact, but also the impact that worldwide fame had on her. And impact her it did. Insight comes not only from those who knew her but also Poly herself who was an extensive journal keeper and was interviewed a lot during her years of fame. Zoë Howe and Celeste Bell do a great job of crafting a narrative that centers the late musician and (almost) always makes sure that Poly's own words are front and center. Along with editor Xanna Ward Dixon, they weave the archival footage and audio of talking heads chats together into an engaging, emotional, and entertaining watch. 

For those who weren't raised around the British punk scene, there's plenty of insight and fun footage to explore too. We get to see Poly on Top of the Pops. We see footage of her in the iconic World's End Market where she ran a clothing stall. Plenty of gigs are documented here, including the now famous CBGB show which was attended by Blondie, Paul Weller, and more. As we traverse Poly's life we hear from Vivienne Westwood and other punk figureheads like Pauline Black from The Selector and Ana da Silva from The Raincoats. Her old bandmates have plenty of wonderful stories to tell but we also listen to anecdotes from Poly's sister and ex-husband. There are stories of her childhood and the racism she faced as a mixed-race woman growing up in the UK in the 50s and 60s. It's a far more holistic look at fame than we're usually afforded, one that's as interested in everything that came before and after as it is in looking at the peak of her success, which in Poly's case was a complex, joyous, and often heartbreaking tale. 

Seeing as this is so personal to Celeste--co-who wrote (with Howe) and co-directed the film with Paul Sng--there is an honesty both about herself and her mother that feels radical. There's very little judgement to the struggles that the pair shared. Especially when it comes to Poly's experiences with mental health, which were exacerbated by an outdated and racist medical system. There her daughter becomes an advocate for her mother, explaining about her misdiagnosis and treatment at the hands of the British healthcare system, while also talking about how her struggles impacted her own childhood and ended up with her being partially raised by her grandmother. It's this personal aspect of the documentary that might surprise punk fans or people expecting a cut and dry look at a music legend. But for the most part it's an earnest and sincere angle which artfully celebrates Poly Styrene and her huge impact. 

At an easy 90 minutes, Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliche stuffs a lot into its runtime and is a truly satisfying watch. While it feels like each of the eras could have been an episode in its own series, this documentary has been years in the making and I'm just glad it finally got released. I learned a lot more about the woman I've idolized for so long and was surprised by how moved I was by her dueling roles as a mother and musician. It's a great introduction to people who have never heard of the artist, the impact of fame, the problems of the music industry, and also works as an intriguing and emotionally resonant exploration of the mother/daughter relationship. So, basically, no matter what your flavor of non-fiction filmmaking, you could do well to check out this British documentary about one of our unsung punk icons. 

It's been quite some time since Metallica — only the biggest heavy metal band in history and a killer account on TikTok (maybe) — has been on a stage. The band took a break toward the end of 2019 for frontman James Hetfield to take care of some personal business, and then the global pandemic putting a halt to shows this spring and summer.

But come Aug. 28, we'll get some new thrash, and we won't have to leave our homes to get it. S&M2 — the band's second go with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra that enjoyed a short theatrical release in October 2019 — will be released on vinyl, CD, Blu-Ray, and digitally. Most of the formats are available for preorder now.

The concert was filed on Sept. 6 and Sept. 8 at the Chase Center in San Francisco (the band's hometown) and has been re-edited, remixed and remastered (mastered!) for home release.

The two-set concert features 22 songs — many of which also were performed at the original S&M concert in April 1999.

Can you use more than one device at a time?

When Offline Mode is enabled, you can play pre-selected music without streaming. This is ideal if you have a tablet that isn't always connected, or maybe if you have converted a smartphone to a media-player.

Unfortunately, you aren't able to just use as many devices as you want to listen to Tidal. As for devices in the regular mode, you can only use one at a time. But if you download some content to those other devices, you can use up to six total at the same time: one device in Online Mode and up to five others in Offline Mode .

As a bonus, Tidal makes it possible for you to adjust the download quality of your music and videos. Not everyone has a device with expandable storage, and you'll need to make sure you don't completely fill up your phone or tablet. Adjusting the download quality assists in keeping the amount of used storage to a minimum while removing the need to stream everything.

How to activate Offline Mode

Downloading your music is pretty easy, as you can go to the My Collection section, tap the dots next to your songs or playlists, and download them. After they have downloaded, here's how you can enable Offline Mode for your various devices:

1. Open the Tidal app.
2. Tap My Collection in the bottom toolbar.
3. Tap the Settings gear icon in the top right-hand corner.
4. Toggle Offline Mode to the On position.
