Though it has been on Netflix for two months already, I finally had a window of time and nothing else pressing on my watchlist to start the crime drama Dept. Q. To sum up, I quickly became a fan of the show and Matthew Goode’s performance. But now, like many other fans of the series, I have one question — are we getting Dept. Q season 2?

Based on the book The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen and developed for TV by Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit) and Chandni Lakhani (Vigil), Dept. Q centers on DCI Carl Morck (Goode), who after being involved in a shooting that has rattled him and left his partner paralyzed, is given an assignment meant to keep him busy and out of the way, solving cold cases. But with the help of other cast offs, Akrim (Alexej Manvelow) and Rose (Leah Byrne), he begins looking into the mysterious disappearance of a prosecutor that quickly heats up again.

Dept. Q officially premiered on May 29 and spent six weeks in Netflix’s global top 10, and yet no decision on the show’s future has been made as of publication.

That’s in stark contrast to Netflix’s quick decision to renew Untamed, another crime drama in this case starring Eric Bana. Netflix officially picked up the show for season 2 on July 29, just two weeks after its premiere on the streaming service. Now to be fair, Untamed has been the bigger hit with viewers (Untamed’s first week on the streaming nearly outpaced Dept. Q’s total viewership for the six weeks it was in Netflix’s top 10), but Dept. Q has other numbers to support its case for renewal.

Dept. Q is the higher rated show on Rotten Tomatoes with both fans (90% to Untamed’s 70%) and critics (87% to Untamed’s 80%). Dept. Q also earned an Emmy nomination — Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music — though in fairness Untamed won’t be eligible for Emmys until next year’s award ceremony.

And by the sound of it there’s nothing creatively preventing a Dept. Q season 2. Frank spoke with Collider on where he would like to take things with a second season, though he acknowledges that it is not a certainty.

Personally, I found the show’s format of cutting between the present investigation (and all the personal dilemmas the main cast are facing) and getting looks at Merritt Lingard’s (Chloe Pirrie) great, as it slowly revealed clues to who was behind Merritt’s kidnapping. Goode, who I’ve thoroughly enjoyed in The Offer and The Crown, gives one of his best performances as Carl. And, if there is a second season, I’m very intrigued to learn more about Akrim and see his and Carl’s partnership grow.

With a show like this, it’s never easy to tell what Netflix will do. Until confirmed otherwise, Dept. Q is at risk of joining other Netflix shows that had strong reviews, like Lockwood & Co., I Am Not Okay With This, The Get Down and 1899, but only managed to get one season before being cancelled.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Dept. Q doesn’t meet that fate, because I won’t let two months go by to watch Dept. Q season 2 if we get it.

Whoever said small town living was quiet? That certainly wasn’t the case for Karl Alberg in Murder in a Small Town, as the police detective moved to the coastal town of Gibsons from the big city only to discover that there are plenty of investigations to keep him busy. And there’s more on the way as Murder in a Small Town season 2 is on its way.

Murder in a Small town is based on the Karl Alberg books series by L.R. Wright, with Ian Weir serving as the showrunner on the series. Season 2 is going to expand Alberg’s scope and introduce him to a range of new and intriguing characters/suspects.

Murder in a Small Town season 2 release date

Fox is debuting Murder in a Small Town season 2 on Tuesday, September 23, at 8 pm ET/PT.

The crime drama will share the Tuesday night primetime spotlight on Fox with the hit medical drama Doc.

Season 1 on Murder in a Small Town featured eight episodes, but it looks like season 2 is upping that number, with 10 episodes expected as part of the second season.

In order to watch Murder in a Small Town season 2 you need to have access to your local Fox station. That’s available through a traditional pay-TV provider, a TV antenna or live TV streaming services like Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV. Murder in a Small Town season 2 cast

Rossif Sutherland returns to lead Murder in a Small Town as Karl Alberg. Sutherland is the son of legendary actor Donald Sutherland (who at one point was looking to produce an adaptation of L.R. Wright’s Alberg series). Among Rossif Sutherland’s notable credits are Three Pines and The Handsmaid’s Tale.

Starring opposite Sutherland is Kristin Kreuk as the town librarian Cassandra Lee, who forms a bond with Karl. Kreuk is best known from her time on Smallville, with other notable credits including Beauty and the Beast, Burden of Truth and Reacher.

A notable new addition to the Murder in a Small Town cast is Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden (Pollock, Mystic River, The Morning Show). Harden is set to play Mayor Christie Holman, a consummate political operator that also happens to be a doctor and a beloved member of the community.

Others from season 1 that are slated to come back are Aaron Douglas as Sid Sokolowski, Savonna Spracklin as Isabella Harbud, Mya Lowe as Edwina Yen and Dakota Guppy as Holly Alberg.

With that said, it can be a lot to scroll through, so allow me to offer my humble services in helping you find the new movies on streaming that you are not going to want to miss.

The below list of movies is taken from the major streaming services: Apple TV Plus, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount Plus, Peacock and Prime Video. I'm also specifically picking movies that are new to streaming this month — in this case, these are 12 movies that are landing on one of the major streamers for the first time, or coming back to streaming services after only being available via on-demand.

So without further ado, here are my picks for the 12 movies to stream in August.

The Departed (Netflix)

Martin Scorsese's The Departed will always have a special place in my heart, as this Best Picture winner was my first real introduction to the master filmmaker. I've of course watched as much of his filmography as I can since then, but The Departed sticks with me as it is fun, has some great performances (particularly from Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson) and is layered with details that enrich repeat viewings (the use of X in the movie has been well documented). While Scorsese has a lot of things in the works (including The Devil in the White City), we don't know for sure when we're getting his next movie. So streaming The Departed is a good way to bide our time.

Eenie Meanie (Hulu)

Samara Weaving has starred in a number of fan-favorite movies, including Ready or Not and Guns Akimbo. Could Eenie Meanie be next? The action movie sees her star as a former getaway driver brought back into the criminal world when her former employer offers her a chance to save her ex-boyfriend. A great supporting cast is on hand for this one as well, with Steve Zahn, Randall Park, Andy Garcia, Karl Glusman and Marshawn Lynch. Here's hoping this one puts the pedal to the metal for a fun watch.

Stream Eenie Meanie on Hulu in the US starting August 22.

Final Destination Bloodlines (HBO Max)

One of the biggest movies of the year makes its streaming debut to kick off August with Final Destination Bloodlines. The latest sequel in the horror franchise that is now 25 years old is widely viewed as the best, earning a 93% "Certified Fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes. Focusing on a family, the characters learn that them being marked for death is something that has been lying in wait for generations. While the crazy deaths are a highlight as always, the movie also serves as one of the final performances from horror legend Tony Todd, so be sure to give a tip of the cap to him if you watch.

Stream Final Destination Bloodlines on HBO Max in the US starting August 1.

Freaky Tales (HBO Max)

It's been a big year for Pedro Pascal with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Eddington, Materialists and The Last of Us season 2, but one movie of his you may have missed from this year is Freaky Tales. Set in 1987 Oakland, Calif., Freaky Tales answers the question of what happens when an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis and a debt collector collide. Written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (the duo behind Captain Marvel), it's flown under the radar, but audiences who have seen it have enjoyed it, based on the 89% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Stream Freaky Tales on HBO Max in the US starting August 8.

The Friend (Paramount Plus)

This one is for all the dog lovers out there, as the breakout star of The Friend is the Great Dane Bing, who plays the central pooch in the movie, Apollo. The human star of the movie is Naomi Watts, who plays an English professor who unexpectedly is tasked with caring for Apollo after his owner and her mentor dies, and has to figure out if and how the dog can fit into her life. While it is a SPOILER, if anyone is on the fence about this movie, wondering if the dog dies or not, I will assure you that while this is a dramedy, Apollo makes it through A OK.

The Monkey (Hulu)

Similar to Pedro Pascal, 2025 has been a big year for Stephen King, as The Life of Chuck, The Institute and soon The Long Walk have all been adapted for the screen. But my personal favorite from these King offerings this year is the absurdly fun The Monkey. Theo James stars as twins whose lives have been tormented for years by a toy monkey that has been a part of a number of surprising deaths over the years. When the monkey resurfaces, they have to figure out how to stop it before someone else they love dies. Like Final Destination Bloodlines, if you're a fan of outrageous, gory deaths, then this will be a must-watch.

Mother! (Paramount Plus)

Mother! is one of the craziest movies I've ever seen, and I loved it. Darren Aronofsky uses the story of a woman (Jennifer Lawrence) whose life is turned upside down when her poet husband (Javier Bardem) gets a group of fervent fans at the house they are remodeling. From there, the movie draws parallels to the environment, religion and fanaticism in a psychological horror. It certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a fascinating piece of work from Aronofsky, and a committed performance from Lawrence.

My Oxford Year (Netflix)

On the opposite end of the spectrum from Mother! is the new Netflix romance movie My Oxford Year. Sofia Carson stars as an American student at Oxford whose life takes a surprising turn when she meets a local boy, played by Corey Mylchreest. Dougray Scott and Catherine McCormack also star in this movie from Iain Morris (Time Bandits, The Inbetweeners). The fact that the movie was filmed on location on the Oxford Campus should also be a fun treat for viewers.

Night Always Comes (Netflix)

Another member of The Fantastic Four is back with another movie this month, as Vanessa Kirby stars in the Netflix original movie Night Always Comes. This one is a crime drama, with Kirby playing a woman who must confront her dark past over the course of one long night as she looks to secure a future for her and the brother she cares for. Kirby reunites with Benjamin Caron, who directed multiple episodes of The Crown (as well as Andor), for Night Always Comes.

Stream Night Always Comes starting August 15 on Netflix.

The Pickup (Prime Video)

Keke Palmer has already starred in one of the best comedies of the year in One of Them Days. Does she have another hit on her hand in The Pickup? Palmer stars alongside comedy icon Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson in this action comedy, where Murphy and Davidson are armored truck drivers and Palmer plays a criminal looking to use them to score big, though she has a bit of history with Davidson's character that should make for plenty of fun banter. Ride Along director Tim Story directs.

The Thursday Murder Club (Netflix)

Richard Osman's best-selling murder mystery book The Thursday Murder Club is being adapted into the next big Netflix original movie. The all-star cast of Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie stars as four retirees who forgo the knitting circle and instead spend their golden years looking into cold case murders. But when one case proves to be not so cold, the group puts their skills to the test to get justice. There are five books in total in the Thursday Murder Club series, so if this one proves to be a hit, Netflix could have a new franchise on their hands.

Wet Hot American Summer (Netflix/Peacock)

We're in the final days of summer, so what better way to spend it than at Camp Firewood? This cult classic comedy has one of the most incredible casts: Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Marguerite Moreau, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Michael Ian Black, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks and H. Jon Benjamin. Wet Hot American Summer is hilariously absurd. And if you enjoy it, Netflix has two spinoff series that it did (which reunite the cast) that you can enjoy (Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later).

The Hunting Wives may not have been on the radar of a lot of US Netflix subscribers, but allow me to reassure you that it should be. It debuted on July 21, and since then, I’ve found myself completely captivated by the murder mystery series.

It follows the story of Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow), a Massachusetts Yankee, who moves to East Texas with her husband and son in search of a fresh start. However, what she thought would be a nice, slower change of pace turns out to be a highly volatile tinderbox of drama waiting for just the right match to be lit.

From scandalous extramarital affairs to dubious past mistakes to murder, all the secrets that surround Sophie and her new housewife friend group are all hidden behind Texas-sized smiles and Southern hospitality.

Beyond the intriguing storyline that unfolds, my favorite aspect of the brand-new series is the witty comedy peppered throughout all the episodes. Right off the bat in the series premiere, I found myself laughing out loud as Sophie was given the culture shock of her life, meeting people who clearly don’t share her same political views. And her continued cultural adjustment kept me entertained.

Oh, and I can’t forget, the series is downright sexy. The women at the heart of the show may be housewives, but trust and believe, they make sure they’re never bored and have lives outside of taking care of their families. Heck, the leader of the bunch, Margo (Malin Akerman), prioritizes her sexuality and makes sport of her conquests.

Having said all of that, while the show has the recipe to make it great on its own, I’m also infatuated with it because it reminds me of a popular series that debuted back in 2004. I’m talking about Desperate Housewives.

The Emmy-winning series was a jewel in its prime. Similar to The Hunting Wives, the first season of Desperate Housewives kicked off with a mystery surrounding death, and as the episodes went by, all the women on Wisteria Lane were revealed to have a few skeletons in their closets, including an extramarital affair with someone a bit risque in the case of Eva Longoria’s Gabrielle Solis.

Desperate Housewives also had a healthy dose of comedy among all the jaw-dropping drama. To this day, I still find Felicity Huffman’s Lynette Scavo scene where she walked into a pool with a funeral dress on to get her misbehaving children one of the funniest moments I’ve seen in a drama. Take a peek at the scene below.

All in all, The Hunting Wives is a must-watch in my book, whether you’ve previously seen Desperate Housewives or not. But if you have, you may find it quite entertaining to draw a comparison between the two shows.

Trigger Point, ITV1

Vicky McClure reprises her role as straight-talking Metropolitan Police bomb-disposal officer — or "expo" — Lana ‘Wash’ Washington in a much-anticipated third run of the hit thriller.

The six-parter sees Lana’s team investigating a bomb threat, but it’s soon clear it’s just the start of a sinister vendetta. A Town Called Malice’s Jason Flemyng guest-stars.

Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, BBC1

Magpie Murders creator Anthony Horowitz has penned this claustrophobic six-part whodunnit that unfolds after a plane carrying a small group of people crashes in the Mexican jungle.

All the bodies are recovered, but it turns out only one of them died in the crash — the others were murdered afterwards, and flashback sequences reveal what happened. The cast of Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue includes Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack (left) and Amandaland’s Siobhán McSweeney.

Only Murders in the Building, Disney Plus

After the shocking cliffhanger in the Season 4 finale, intrepid true-crime podcasters Charles-Haden Savage (played by Steve Martin), Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) and Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) must now investigate the mysterious death of beloved Arconia doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca).

Bridget Jones star Renée Zellweger and Christoph Waltz (James Bond) are among the fresh signings for the new 10-part run of the New York-set comedy drama.

Shetland, BBC1

A new complex case with long-held secrets at its heart must be unravelled as we head back to windswept Shetland for a milestone 10th outing of the hit murder-mystery drama.

The six-part story sees tenacious crime-fighting duo DI Alison "Tosh" McIntosh (played by Alison O’Donnell) and DI Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) travel to the isolated fictional hamlet of Lunniswick to investigate the suspicious death of a retired social worker.

Luckily, in Shetland season 10, the pair can again rely on the help of returning regulars DC Sandy Wilson (Steven Robertson), Sgt Billy McCabe (Lewis Howden) and pathologist Cora McLean (Anne Kidd).

Amandaland’s Samuel Anderson joins the cast as new procurator fiscal Matt Blake, while guest stars include Louise Brealey (Sherlock), Ellie Haddington (Motherland) and Clive Russell (Dept. Q).

Ridley, ITV1

Following the first outing of this gritty drama in 2022, Adrian Dunbar returns as retired detective turned police consultant Alex Ridley to unravel four more feature-length cases.

Teaming up again with former protégée DI Carol Farman (Bronagh Waugh), charismatic Alex’s new investigations include a jewellery heist and a murder at a rave.

In Flight, C4

This six-part thriller sees Protection star Katherine Kelly play Jo Conran, a single mum and flight attendant blackmailed into drug smuggling after her son is imprisoned in Bulgaria for a murder he swears he didn’t commit.

The cast also includes Stuart Martin (Miss Scarlet & The Duke) and Ashley Thomas (The Ipcress File).

Black Rabbit, Netflix

Jason Bateman and Jude Law take centre stage in an eight-episode crime thriller.

Jude plays Jake Friedkin, the owner of New York’s hottest restaurant, who allows his troubled brother Vince (Jason) back into his life. However, Vince brings with him a whirlwind of debts and danger that test their brotherly bond to the limit.

Hotel Costiera, Prime Video

Set on the stunning Amalfi Coast, this glossy six-parter sees Grey's Anatomy favourite Jesse Williams headline as Daniel De Luca, a former Marine who returns to Italy to work as a "fixer" at a luxury hotel in Positano.

Smoothing out the wealthy guests' problems, Daniel soon needs to call upon skills he learnt in his old job when the hotel owner’s daughter is kidnapped.

Task, Sky

From the pen of Brad Ingelsby, the creator of Kate Winslet's acclaimed 2021 crime drama Mare of Easttown, is a seven-part thriller, also set in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

American film favourite Mark Ruffalo plays FBI agent Tom, who is intent on stopping a string of violent robberies led by unassuming family man Robbie (Tom Pelphrey).

We’re getting new episodes of Only Murders in the Building in less than two months people!

Hulu officially announced that the Only Murders in the Building season 5 premiere is arriving on Tuesday, September 9; the comedy/mystery show will stream on Disney Plus in the UK. The first three episodes of the new season are going to be available to watch right away, with single episodes releasing weekly after that.

On top of that great news, we also have the official synopsis for Only Murders in the Building season 5 and the returning and new cast members for this season. Let’s start with the synopsis:

“After their beloved doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca), dies under suspicious circumstances, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) refuse to believe it was an accident. Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters and the mysterious residents of the Arconia. The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.”

In addition to the lead trio of Martin, Short and Gomez, returning cast members for this season include Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard, Meryl Streep as Loretta, Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Donna Williams, Richard Kind as Vince Fish and Nathan Lane as Teddy Diams (the latter returning for the first time since season 2).

New additions to the Only Murders in the Building cast include Téa Leoni (though she did have a brief appearance in the season 4 finale), Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest and Jermaine Fowler.

The only thing we’re missing is a trailer for the new season, but hopefully that will arrive soon.

Only Murders in the Building is one of my favorite TV shows right now, so I’m beyond ecstatic to finally know when the series is coming back, even if I have to wait about a week longer than usual (most previous seasons premiered the last week of August, while season 5 arrives the second week of September). With the introduction of the mafia and a cast of A-list guest stars, which may be the show’s biggest group yet, this makes Only Murders in the Building season 5 a must-watch in my books.

Sherlock Holmes remains one of the most famous characters the world over (fictional, to be clear, despite some speculation Holmes may be based on a real person). He has memorably been played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr., Henry Cavill and Basil Rathbone, among others. All of those adaptations of Sherlock were made in the US or the UK, but did you know that the former Soviet Union made a series of Sherlock Holmes movies/TV series?

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson was a series of five movies that were then broken up into 11 episodes that aired on TV in the Soviet Union during the 1980s. At the heart of it was the performance of Vasiliy Livanov as Sherlock Holmes, which many who are well-versed in all things Sherlock Holmes consider to be one of the best portrayals of the character.

What’s really cool is you can watch The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson for yourself right now, and for free on YouTube, with an account having all 11 episodes of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson with English subtitles.

Though the Soviet Union’s film/TV industry was behind this adaptation of the classic London detective, it was heavily praised for being very faithful to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original work. This includes having the series set in London, with a street in Riga, Latvia (then part of the Soviet bloc), serving as the exterior of Holmes’ traditional residence on Baker Street.

Starring alongside Livanov’s Holmes was Vitali Solomin as Dr. John Watson. Together they went through a number of Holmes’ classic cases, including “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” “A Study in Scarlet,” “The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton,” “The Final Problem,” The Adventure of the Empty House,” “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” “The Sign of Four,” “Scandal in Bohemia,” “The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb,” “The Adventure of the Second Stain,” “The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans” and “His Last Bow.”

Livanov’s performance as Holmes is so well regarded that he was actually made an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) “for service to the theatre and performing arts.”

If you’ve made your way through some of the notable current summer crime/mystery hits on TV like Untamed, Dept. Q, Countdown or Smoke, then The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson can be a fun alternative. And again, most importantly, free to watch.

Bookish is set in post-war Britain and it's about an antique book seller who helps the police in solving crimes by using the knowledge he's collected from the books in his store.

Gatiss created the show and he stars as the main character, called Gabriel Book, and the cast is rounded out by Polly Walker, Daniel Mays, Elliot Levey and Joely Richardson.

How to watch Bookish in the US

We know where Bookish will air in the US, but not when. The show has been confirmed to be broadcast via PBS at some point in the broadcaster's '25-'26 season.

We'll update this article when we know more.

PBS is free to watch from via its PBS App, and it also has a cable channel available via many providers as well as two live TV streaming services, those being DirecTV and YouTube TV.

How to watch Bookish in the UK

In the UK, you'll be able to watch Bookish on U&Alibi or via streaming. You'll be forgiven for not knowing how to watch this channel.

This is a channel owned by UKTV and as such, it's a premium one which you'll be able to watch through pay TV providers. Sky TV is one such option.

Two episodes will air each Wednesday from Wednesday, July 16 at 8pm and 9pm, for three weeks (so, six episodes in all).

Alternatively you can stream the series on Sky TV and Now TV through their video-on-demand libraries, and all six episodes will be available for viewing from Wednesday, July 16.

How to watch Bookish everywhere else

Mark Gatiss is no stranger to mysteries, whether as the co-creator of BBC One's Sherlock (and portraying Sherlock's brother, Mycroft Holmes) or as the writer/director of spine-chilling ghost stories for the BBC at Christmas. But in his new series Bookish, airing on U&Alibi in the UK and coming to the US later on PBS, he's finally living out a lifelong dream of playing a detective.

Set in post-World War Two London, the series stars Mark — who also created the show — as Gabriel Book, a bookshop owner who has a handy sideline consulting for the police on some of their more complicated cases. Book is a gay man living in a time when homosexuality was illegal, but he's married to his childhood best friend Trottie (Bridgerton's Polly Walker) in a marriage of convenience that works for both of them.

As the series begins, ex-prisoner Jack (Everything I Know About Love's Connor Finch) receives a mysterious invitation from a prison reform society upon his release, advising him of a job vacancy at Book's bookshop — but is it just chance that has brought to Jack into Book and Trottie's world, or is it destiny?

Mark Gatiss on the inspiration for Bookish

"I've always wanted to play a detective, and I had this idea about eight years ago on a plane. It arrived sort of fully-formed: a bookshop owner called Book. This is my favourite period; post-war London is not done often, and I thought, yes, he's gay and in a lavender marriage. It's such an interesting time: the whole world's been turned upside down, it's very exciting but kind of frightening. Nobody knows their place any more. That was the genesis of it, and then during lockdown I thought I'd write it as a book.

"I started it, but I couldn't get the tone right — it was too bleak, I think because we were in an international crisis and that sort of leached into it! But what I did manage to do was write a script, literally for something to do, and I really enjoyed it. Then, two years ago, I was introduced to Walter [Iuzzolino] and Jo [McGrath, from production company Eagle Eye Drama] and Walter said, 'you haven't got a period detective in you, have you?' I said, 'I do, and I've got a script!' So I sent it to them, and it was commissioned two weeks later, which was amazing. So it was a long process to a quick commission!"

• Bookish launches on Wednesday July 16 on U&Alibi in the UK, with a two-part story airing at 8pm and 9.10pm.

The BBC has revealed a first look at new characters joining the cast for A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 2.

The second instalment of the hit BBC and Netflix thriller is now in production following the huge success of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 1 in 2024.

The second series, which like the first will once again be based on Holly Jackson's bestselling books, reunites us with unlikely super-sleuth Pip Fitz-Amobi, who in the first series became determined to solve the murder of a local schoolgirl Andie Belle after growing convinced that the police had pinned the case on the wrong person.

But while Pip might have found the real killer in the last series, it seems her crime-fighting days are only just beginning.

The BBC released first look images of the second season today, Monday, July 14, showing Emma Myers returning as Pip (see main image above).

But while Zain Iqbal (Death, Whatever!), Henry Ashton (My Lady Jane), Asha Banks (My Fault: London), Yali Topol Margalith (The Tattooist of Auschwitz), and Jude Morgan-Collie (Here We Go) are allreturning for a new season, we will also see some new faces joining the cast.

It was revealed, along with the first look images, that Misia Butler (KAOS) will join the series as Stanley Forbes, a figure on the fringes of the investigation, with connections that may run deeper than they seem.

Eden Hambelton-Davies (Tell Me Everything) will also joing the cast as Jamie Reynolds, Connor’s brother, a quiet but popular local musician whose sudden disappearance sends shockwaves throughout the community, and Jack Rowan (Noughts And Crosses) joins as Charlie Green, Pip’s new neighbour who is drawn into the heart of the mystery unravelling in Little Kilton.

Holly Jackson, author & series two writer, says: “I'm so excited to welcome some new and incredibly talented actors into the AGGGTM family. Eden is sensational as our Jamie, his presence felt throughout, even though he’s missing.

"Misia is the perfect Stanley Forbes, delivering a truly heart-wrenching performance. And Jack as Charlie Green is simply extraordinary: I had to stand and clap at the monitors. Just you wait.”

It has also been announced that other new cast members include Anna Brindle (The Outs), Peter Sullivan (Around The World In 80 Days), Freddie Thorp (Fate: The Winx Saga), Lu Corfield (The Crow Girl), Stephanie Street (Breathtaking) and Freddie England join the cast in key roles.

The new series will reunite us with our favourite super-sleuth, Pip - but after solving the Andie Bell case Pip’s world has been transformed by her actions, and not always for the better.

Pip is determined to fix the fallout - and stay away from any more investigations, but as Max Hastings’ trial approaches, Connor’s brother Jamie suddenly disappears and Pip finds herself in a race against time to find him.

This new mystery will take Pip to unexpected places as she struggles with the idea of justice, straying even further from the 'good girl' she once was.

The six-part second series will premiere on the BBC and, outside of the UK and Ireland, on Netflix where available.

In Germany it will be available exclusively on ZDFneo and in Australia it will be exclusively on Stan.

First we had Dexter. Then we had Dexter: New Blood. And now we have Dexter: Resurrection, the second sequel to the hit crime drama which continues the story immediately after the previous one.

In Dexter: Resurrection we catch up with Dexter Morgan as he's recovering from the events of New Blood's finale, however his son's missing and the quest to locate him takes him to New York City.

Michael C. Hall is back in the lead role with lots of his allies and enemies also reprising their characters; Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage are also joining for this latest season and they look set to be antagonists.

So here's how to watch Dexter: Resurrection when it releases, and we'll also guide you to watching the previous series if you haven't seen them yet.

How to watch Dexter: Resurrection in the US

You'll be able to watch Dexter: Resurrection in the US via Paramount Plus, but you won't be able to watch on any tier. You'll need to use Paramount Plus Premium.

Formerly known as Paramount Plus with Showtime, this top tier of the subscription service costs you $12.99 per month and lets you enjoy Showtime content in the Paramount library as well as live streams of your local CBS affiliate.

After a two-episode premiere on Friday, July 11, new entries will drop to the platform weekly.

All seasons of Dexter are on Paramount Plus, and they're available to subscribers to the Essential plan, not just the Premium one. New Blood is also there, and it was previously on Prime Video but isn't any more.

How to watch Dexter: Resurrection in the UK

As in the US, and most other places, you'll be able to stream Dexter: Resurrection on Paramount Plus. Unlike in the US, though, you don't need to be on the Premium tier.

Instead you can get access on any tier, including the £4.99-per-month ad-enabled one.

The release schedule for Dexter: Resurrection is the same as in the US: two episodes on Friday, July 11 and one new one weekly from then.

If you love a juicy murder mystery and fancy looking at some fabulous French scenery, then Netflix's new thriller series Under a Dark Sun is perfect for you.

I'm hooked on every twist and turn as we follow Alba (Ava Baya), a young mother who flees her controlling father to start a new life with her young son Leo.

With little money, she’s delighted when she gets a mysterious text offering her a job interview picking flowers at a vast estate.

But when she arrives, the boss, Arnaud, says he didn't ask her to come for an interview. He does, though, give her the job, but then asks when she's going to stop pretending about why she’s really here and says she should meet him first thing the next morning!

However, when Alba shows up for their appointment, she finds him in a pool of blood, dying. He's been murdered, and she's now the chief suspect!

She then faces a battle of wits against Arnaud's manipulative widow Beatrice (played by two-time Oscar nominee Isabelle Adjani), who's hellbent on making sure Alba is behind bars. Did Beatrice kill her husband? Or was it another member of her poisonous family, including her hideous son Mathieu? And why on earth is Beatrice's granddaughter Manon so keen to help Alba? And what about Alba? Can we really trust her?

It’s a great set up and Alba is very much at the heart of the show, trying to solve who killed Arnaud. The cops are always lurking in the background, but it seems to be up to Alba to find the truth about this bizarre family.

What I love about Under a Dark Sun is that you're really unsure where it will go next. There are a couple of moments when I gasped in surprise as something shocking happened. I even rewound one episode to double-check that something really did happen!

It reminds me a little of Netflix's recent Nordic noir hit The Glass Dome, with a female central character who very much feels alone in the world. It also shares the same sense of claustrophobia. But Under a Dark Sun has far more humor, with Isabelle Adjani getting the majority of the best lines as caustic Béatrice.

The whole six-part series also looks great, having been shot on the French Riviera. So, give it a whirl and you won't be disappointed.

In original US drama series, Dexter, which ran from 2006 to 2013, the master of concealment (played by Michael C. Hall) channelled his murderous urges – directed by an inner voice he calls his ‘dark passenger’ – into a ‘code’ created by his adoptive dad, cop Harry (James Remar).

Working as a blood-splatter expert with Miami Metro Police, the vigilante targeted those who’d escaped justice, taking out the trash and cleaning up his crime scenes.

Almost unmasked as the infamous ‘Bay Harbor Butcher’ once, Dexter faked his own death in the series eight finale, as his past threatened to catch up with him again.

Tracked down by his teenage son Harrison (Jack Alcott) and former colleague Angel Batista (David Zayas) in 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, the anti-hero was left for dead after being shot by his lad, who has a ‘dark passenger’ of his own.

In the opening scene of last year’s prequel to the franchise, Dexter: Original Sin, fans saw how Dexter had survived. Now in new series, Dexter: Resurrection – a sequel to New Blood – we join him 10 weeks later as he wakes from his coma while, in New York, Harrison is in trouble.

The episode opens in the past with Alba showing her boyfriend her positive pregnancy test. We then see her finding baby Leo next to her druggie boyfriend out of it with a needle beside him. We see them arguing, and he hits her. She looks furious; it's not clear what happens next, but we see police sirens as she cradles Leo.

In the present, Béatrice tries to persuade Alba to sign her murder deal. Alba sees the ghost of her dead ex, who says it's about time she went to prison after what she did to him. Then we see the ghost of her real father, Arnaud, telling her that she was protecting her son and not to listen to her ex. Alba rips up the contract and walks out.

Mathieu is sleeping with one of the women with whom they're negotiating the sale. She asks on the way out if the whole secret heir thing has been put to bed.

In Mathieu's pocket is a photo of Alba. Mathieu makes an anonymous call to the cops, saying the murder weapon is at Alba’s place.

Where is Noor?

Alba is at Noor's with Samira, another worker, and Valentin. She seems to have left. But Alba says something must have happened to her because she was going to tell her who killed Arnaud.

Samira tells Alba she saw Noor in a car belonging to the family. She says it’s Mathieu’s car.

Mathieu tells his mother he thinks he's found a way of getting another chance with Omar.

Leo asks Alba if she killed her boss. He asks if she’s ever shot anyone in self-defence. She says no. Leo says he believes her.

Mathieu fumes at Valentin over the flowers being burnt, saying security is his job. "This is about your inheritance war, yeah? Nothing to do with me," he replies. Mathieu tries to fire Valentin, but he scoffs and says that if he weren't his father's son, he'd have been fired years ago.

Mathieu shoves him to the ground and tells him it's his last day on the farm.

Alba gets a call from the chief cop, making clear he's aware of her previous murder accusation.

Lucie says Mathieu should have spoken to her before firing their main employee. Mathieu turns on her and says what does she do apart from the accounts. The accounts seem quite crucial in a major business! Lucie says she wants to go to the cops because she believes their mother murdered their father. Mathieu says what weapon? And pretends Lucie is lying about finding the murder weapon, which he makes clear he's planted in Alba's home.

Alba goes to see Manon. Manon can't believe Alba didn't mention she’d been accused of murder before. Alba says he fell to his death and points out she was 16 at the time, while he was 25. One of the cops searches Alba's home but doesn't find the weapon. The cops argue over whether they should be looking at other suspects.

Alba and Valentin find a secret lair

Leo produces the gun and places it on Manon’s desk!

Béatrice is back at the casino.

Alba finds Mathieu’s car and is about to break in when Valentin arrives and says it will be much easier with the key, and gives it to her.

Together, they look at the car's sat nav history and find he was in the middle of a forest at 3 am. Together, they drive to the woods. Valentin says her father was a good boss.

Back at the casino, Béatrice is having a bad run on roulette when Jacques arrives and they go for a drink. Jacques thinks she's a gambling addict. She denies it. But then she admits it. Jacques says she owes the casino around 100,00 euros, that’s quite the losing streak! Jacques says that's the hidden debt Arnaud owed. Jaques reveals he lent Aranud the money to pay off her gambling debt. Jacques wants his money. He creepily says he has a solution to get her out of this mess.

Alba and Valentin arrive in the middle of the woods. They find a spooky building. They find a secret basement. Inside is a bed and a DVD. Alba puts the DVD on, and the video is of Noor, and something so shocking happens that Alba gasps. The TV then switches to CCTV footage of Alba's home, and she's stunned to see footage of her and her son. Valentin notices a camera. They’re being watched and flee.

They go outside, and one of the cops, Lucas, is there. Suddenly, he's shot in the head! More bullets follow. They manage to get in the car and escape.

Mathieu is having trouble managing without Valentin. Lucie and Oliver are having a sexy video call when she suddenly ruins the mood by telling him her father has died! She adds that her mother or brother might be a murderer. She continues that she hasn’t told her family about him. She gets upset and hangs up.

The lead cop tries to phone Lucas, but there’s no reply as he's dead!.

Alba goes to collect Leo and is shocked to find her adopted dad there. He says Leo called him. Leo says he's fed up with her lies and wants a normal life. Leo heads off with Alba's adopted dad. After he leaves, Alba breaks down.

Mathieu is having a drink in a restaurant. Lucie joins him. Mathieu jokingly confesses to killing their father. Lucie says she's leaving the estate to move to London with her boyfriend. Béatrice and Jacques walk in. Turns out Jacques' deal to save Béatrice is for them to wed. The kids look shocked, not surprisingly, that their mother is getting hitched so soon after their father’s death. Mathieu almost chokes to death at the news! Lucie storms out.

Manon shows Alba the gun Leo found. Manon says even if it was planted, she has to go to the police. Alba says she will deal with the gun and says Manon is no longer her lawyer.

Leo and his granddad are driving when someone aggressively comes up in a car from the rear.

Alba and Valentin are at the police station. Alba gets a text warning her not to talk to the police.

We see that Leo's car has crashed.

Alba looks at her phone, and she's warned that her son will be killed if she speaks to the cops, and there’s a photo of a kidnapped Leo!

Netflix has a brand new movie that may have people rethinking how bad their apartment really is, as Brick is a psychological thriller about a group of people who become trapped in their apartment building and need to find a way out. The new Netflix original movie debuted on the streamer on July 10 and could be the next big international movie on the platform.

A noticeable trend on Netflix this year has been US and UK subscribers embracing more foreign-language movies. Previously this year Ad Vitam, Bogota: City of the Lost, Honeymoon Crasher, Counterattack, iHostage, Bullet Train Explosion, Exterritorial, Bad Influence, A Widow’s Game and KPop Demon Hunters all appeared in the weekly top 10 of most watched titles in the US, with many enjoying at least a little bit of time as the most-watched movie on Netflix. Whether they’re opting for dubbed versions or embracing subtitles, it’s nice to see Netflix subscribers giving international movies a shot.

They can do so again with Brick, which hails from German director Philip Koch and stars Matthias Schweighöfer, whose other credits include Netflix’s Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves and The Swimmers, as well as Oppenheimer and Pixar’s latest movie, Elio. Also starring in the German-language movie are Ruby O. Fee, Frederick Lau, Salber Lee Williams, Murathan Muslu, Sira-Anna Faal, Axel Werner, Alexander Beyer and Josef Berousek.

Here is the official synopsis for the German-language movie from Netflix:

“When a mysterious black wall encloses their apartment building overnight, Tim and Olivia must unite with their wary neighbors to get out alive.”

Viewers will have the option to watch the movie in German with subtitles or to watch a dubbed English version. If the movie doesn’t start in whichever way you prefer, you can change it by getting the play bar to pop up and selecting the icon that looks like a dialogue box, which will allow you to select your preferred option.

This is the latest Netflix original movie to premiere on the platform. Other recent entries have included The Old Guard 2 and Straw. Also releasing this week is Madea’s Destination Wedding. We'll see if any of these movies end up cracking our best Netflix movies list.

Béatrice goes to talk to Omar about the flower business deal and asks them to proceed now that her husband is dead. Omar says they can't proceed until they know if Alba is a legitimate heir or a murderer; the deal is off the table. Béatrice says Alba won’t be a problem for much longer, and we cut to Alba in her father’s coffin.

She wakes up in the hospital. A man tells her that early this morning, he went to visit Arnaud's grave and heard her screams and got her out of the coffin. The man takes Alba back, and she hugs Leo. Manon tries to talk to the man, but he drives off.

Meanwhile, Lucie is talking via video call with Oliver. She has the gun on the table that she found in the toilet.

Someone seems to be watching Alba. Alba calls her mother. She says her father is applying for full custody of Leo, and she’s supporting him. Alba asks if she remembers the day she came to the maternity ward and started crying over Leo. She says she remembers her saying, "You don’t know everything, Alba". She asks her mother what she is missing. What did she mean? What is she hiding? Her mother reveals that Alba is adopted and begs for her forgiveness. Alba hangs up.

Alba makes a surprise family visit

Béatrice rants that Arnaud had hidden the scale of the family debts. Lucie imagines her mother pulling the trigger, killing her father. Béatrice says that they can’t sell until the situation with Alba is resolved. Mathieu says it's ok because Alba has been arrested for murder and will be disinherited. But Béatrice says that thanks to Mathieu's ghost of a daughter, she's out. Lucie goes into another room, and Alba is sitting there. Alba says they wanted to silence her, but she's never been more determined. Béatrice tries to throw her out, but Alba reminds her it’s her house, too, now. "So, unless you try to kill me again, you’re powerless here.”

Alba goes into the flower field and offers the workers a 50/50 split to come and work for her! The police arrive with dogs and a warrant to search for the murder weapon. The cop tells Alba she's still his main suspect. Alba calls Manon. She says the will was last changed on December 9. Alba asks Manon what happened to make Arnaud change his will, but she says she doesn't know.

Alba tracks down Jacques at a cafe and asks him what happened on December 9. She asks him who he told from the family about the will change, he gets flustered and then threatens her and walks off. Alba has his phone and scans his invoices, looking for December 9. She calls a number and Béatrice picks up, so it looks like Jacques told her about the will change.

Jacques returns and finds his phone on the table. Alba has left.

Noor says to one of the other workers that she knows Alba isn’t the killer, but before she can say anything more, they’re interrupted by Valentin.

Leo is frustrated that Alba isn’t telling him the truth.

The police are with Alba's adopted father. He says that Alba is probably the killer. One of the cops asks him if it was his 25 years in the army that made him so cold, and he replies, no, it was his 25 years with Alba. He continues that Alba is dead to him. He says the only thing important to him is getting his grandson away from her. He adds that he believes she is capable of murder as she's done it all before.

Alba passes Lucie carrying harvested flowers. Lucie says thanks to her, the distillery is ruined as the police have been searching it. Alba hits back, asking her what it’s like living in a family of liars. Alba tells her that Jacques called Béatrice on the day of the will change. Alba says Béatrice framed her and killed Arnaud. Lucie slaps Alba.

Béatrice finds Leo. She asks him about his dad, and he says it’s just him and his mum. Béatrice says everyone has a father. Béatrice says all this could be Leo's if Alba takes responsibility for her "very big mistake". What kind of mistake? he asks. Béatrice says killing her husband! He says she wouldn’t do that. Béatrice then tells Leo that her husband is Alba’s real father. Leo leaves.

Leo returns to the caravan. Manon is talking to her brother and asking why their mother left. Her brother is worried about whether she can trust Alba.

Alba has been a murder suspect before

The police discover Alba was suspected of murder before! She was suspected of murdering her junkie boyfriend.

Noor asks Alba why she's stirring up trouble, and Alba says she wants to trip the family up. Noor says she thinks she knows who killed Arnaud. She says she will tell Alba if she swears to help her, but not now. She says I'll send you a message as they’re being watched.

As Leo and Alba have dinner, we see again that they are being filmed.

Lucie goes to talk to Mathieu and produces the gun she found at their mum's.

Meanwhile, Béatrice is at the roulette table. And she has a winning streak.

Alba has a nightmare. She goes to visit Noor. Someone again seems to be watching. Alba gets a text asking if she’s awake. She asks who it is. And the person replies, “An admirer. You should go check on your roses”. She checks and finds them on fire.

She confronts Béatrice and starts strangling her. But then stops. Béatrice says Alba should open her wallet. Alba looks, and there’s a lot of money, but she says why should she take anything from Béatrice. Béatrice says she’s been talking to Leo and says the money could help set him up. Alba says she must stay away from Leo.

Béatrice produces a statement for Alba to sign, confessing to murder, and in return, she will look after Leo. Alba says she’s insane. Béatrice retorts that if she confesses now, then she can sell the business and secure the family’s future, including Leo’s.

Leo searches his mum’s bag and finds the gun, which has obviously been planted there. He’s shocked. Is his mum a killer?

We see Alba fleeing with her son. A light goes on at the house they're fleeing, and Alba tells her son Leo to get in the car. The car won't start, and a man comes out.

The pair wake up in the car in a car park. Alba looks at her bank balance on her phone, and she has little money. She gets a notice about a flower harvesting job interview at the Lasserre Estate on her phone.

And we get the opening credits. They drive through stunning scenery and finally arrive at the estate.

She meets a man, Arnaud Lasserre, for the interview, but he says he never asked her to come. She shows him her phone, showing that she was asked there for an interview, and pleads that she needs the work.

Arnaud takes her to someone called Valentin and asking him to show Alba the ropes. Arnaud greets another man, his son, called Mathieu.

Alba is stunned to find she's starting right away. She makes her excuses so she can tell her son the news. She says she will work for three weeks, and then they can head to Barcelona. Her son's worried that the man she's running from might find them, but she assures him they won't.

Alba starts work picking the flowers. She takes a call from the man, who has a go at her for taking her son out of school. He says it's up to a judge to decide about Leo. She hurls expletives at him and hangs up. Arnaud seems to hear the call and asks if there’s a problem. She says no.

Arnaud asks her how long she's going to keep the act up about why she's there, and then says she should meet him in the field the next day before the others arrive. He tells her to keep quiet.

Alba and her son chat about learning Spanish. Turns out they're being filmed by someone with a camera hidden in a picture of a squirrel!

Alba finds Arnaud dying

The next morning, Alba goes to meet Arnaud as arranged. But she finds him in a bloody mess. He says her name, putting a bloodied hand to her face, but then dies. She flees the scene. But she's seen.

Arnaud's body is found. Alba tells Leo to grab his stuff as they’re going.

The cops arrive at the estate. Meanwhile, Alba frantically removes blood from her face. The police arrive at the caravan. Alba is told it's routine questioning and is taken to the police station.

The police forensics team processes the crime scene. Alba sits nervously in the police station while Leo hides in the caravan. He finds a sketchbook and inside a photo.

The police tell Arnaud's family that Alba has a criminal record for violence, theft, and drug abuse.

Arnaud’s daughter Lucie recalls Arnaud talking to Alba. Arnaud's wife tells Lucie to try to remember how Arnaud was with Alba and speculates that perhaps he was trying to seduce her. The cop asks her if Arnaud often tried to seduce his employees and she replies that Arnaud knew he was a charismatic man. The cop asks her if anything happened yesterday she can remember, and she pretends she can’t remember before we flashback to yesterday.

We see the family all together signing a document except Arnaud!

We go back to the present, and his wife lies that nothing eventful happened.

Alba gets herself in worse trouble by lying that she hadn't found Arnaud. The cop says she was caught speeding near the scene. She denies she’s driving, and she denies murdering Arnaud.

Lucie asks her mother, Béatrice (Isabelle Adjani), why she didn't bring up the signing, and she says she didn't want to involve Oris.

The door goes and it's Jacques, the family solicitor. He reveals that Arnaud recently changed his will. Arnaud declared he was leaving his possessions to his four heirs — his wife Beatrice, son Mathieu, daughter Lucie, and my other daughter Alba! The cop breaks the news to Alba that she's Arnaud’s daughter. She looks stunned.

Mathieu and Lucie are also stunned. Looks like Béatrice did know.

The police search the caravan, but Leo hides outside.

Jacques tells the family that under French law, if Alba is found guilty of murdering Arnaud, she will be disinherited.

Alba's interview is interrupted by Ms Manon Simoni, who turns out to be Alba's lawyer. Alba explains that Arnaud asked her to meet him in the fields early in the morning, but she found him dying. She says she panicked and ran because she knew, with her past, the police would blame her.

The cop comes back and says he thinks Alba went to Grasse to beg Arnaud for financial help, but he refused, so she killed him. Alba's lawyer tells the cop he should investigate why the family lied about nothing happening the day before Arnaud’s murder. She says it was a big day when they were looking at the future of the estate. The estate was going to be sold to a big company that’d allow the family to carry on running the farm. But Arnaud refused to sign. We see Arnaud telling his family that someone is trying to play him.

The cop asks how Manon knows all this, and she says because she was there, she’s Arnaud’s granddaughter!

We flash back and see Béatrice with Arnaud. She says she's drinking the wine she was going to celebrate the sale with, as after all, you could die tomorrow! Is that a threat? he replies. I deserve Oris’ money as much as you do, she says. They argue. They accuse each other of hiding something.

We go back to the present and Béatrice, thinking of the night she argued with Arnaud, is interupted by Lucie, who says she can't stop thinking of dad. Meanwhile, Mathieu is out getting drunk.

Alba returns to the caravan and hugs Leo and says sorry. Manon is there too. Alba doesn't trust her and wonders why she's helping them. Manon warns her that her family will crush her if she's not careful. Alba says she was framed.

Béatrice dresses in pink for the funeral!

It's the day of the funeral. Lucie has a call from Oliver, her boyfriend. She hides in the bathroom and oddly, she doesn’t tell him about the funeral. While fiddling with the top of the toilet, she finds a gun stashed inside!

While the family is at the funeral, Alba breaks into the house on a mission to work out who's framing her.

Alba finds a laptop and copies the hard drive.

Béatrice turns up at the funeral wearing vivid pink! Béatrice then gives a bizarre speech.

Alba finds a folder marked "Alba". She discovers covertly taken pictures of her with Leo.

Béatrice then shocks everyone by lifting the lid on the coffin and saying, "What a joke" to her dead husband! And walks out!

Alba becomes distressed as the computer starts deleting files. She gets a text saying the funeral has ended and rushes out of the house, only for someone to whack her with a spade!

We then see someone creepily say, "Honestly, darling. You actually believe you can get out of this?"

Alba wakes up and she's with her dead dad in his coffin!

Netflix has added Under a Dark Sun, a tense new French thriller series.

At just six episodes, it's perfect for a speedy binge-watch and is sure to appeal to fans of great recent European dramas like The Åre Murders and Secrets We Keep.

While those shows were set in Scandinavia, we're off to the French Riviera for Under a Dark Sun, which sees a young woman, Alba (Ava Baya) become the prime suspect in a murder case.

Teasing the plot, the makers say: "A young mother on the run finds an unexpected opportunity to bounce back by becoming a picker in a prestigious flower farm in Provence. But the mysterious death of the family patriarch of the company casts her under the spotlight as the prime suspect.

"As she grapples with the mounting accusations, she uncovers a shocking revelation — she's the unexpected beneficiary of the late patriarch's estate, unearthing her deeply-rooted connections to this affluent lineage."

The trailer sees Alba face fierce questioning from the police, who challenge her that inheriting a vast fortune gives her a great motive for murder.

Star Ava Baya told France Net Infos: "Alba is a mother wolf. If you touch her son, she bites! Her determination is what I really liked about this character. In fact, she's a young woman fighting against injustice, against a system that wants to crush her.

"She's also fighting against a crazy family that wants to prove her guilty. And Alba does everything she can to protect her son and her past, always. It was a real role of character. And I really liked her determination, above all."

Under a Dark, which looks fabulous, having been filmed on the French Riviera, certainly boasts a great cast, including two-time Oscar nominee Isabelle Adjani. The 70-year-old star was nominated for the Best Actress award for The Story of Adele H. and Camille Claudel.

Ava Baya added she was nervous working with such a big star. "She's played incredible characters. Since I was somewhat apprehensive, I prepared a lot. I learned my lines a lot, and in many different ways. But when I arrived on set for the first time and saw her, I realized she was very open and very funny. And she's a real hard worker. I really appreciated that after so many years in the film, she continued to work. She's truly an example to me. "

The show is created and written by Nils-Antoine Sambuc, who created the popular French mystery series Blood of the Vine, which was set in the world of wine.

Get ready for a dark journey into the Scottish wilderness in The Dark, an upcoming six-part ITV crime drama.

Based on G.R. Halliday's debut novel, "From The Shadows", the series will tell the story of DI Monica Kennedy, who finds herself on the trail of a depraved serial killer in rural Scotland.

It will be adapted for the screen by Matt Hartley and produced by Poison Pen Studios.

ITV has confirmed The Dark will commence filming in and around Glasgow during 2025, which means we can expect it on our screens at some point in 2026.

It is produced in association with ITV Studios, who will also distribute the series internationally.

"When the body of a young man is found eerily staged in the idyllic Scottish wilderness, detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community.

Murder Most Puzzling is a new murder mystery series based on the bestselling novel franchise of The Puzzle Lady Mysteries by American author Parnell Hall. Here's everything that happened in episode one as the puzzle lady, Cora Felton (Downton Abbey star Phyllis Logan) investigates a murder in a graveyard...

We meet Cora, The Puzzle Lady, filling in a puzzle with her "granddaughter". Cora says it was easy, and the "granddaughter" says, "Yes, it’s your puzzle". Cora replies: “The real puzzle, how do I make these biscuits so tasty?”. Turns out it's an advert! And we see a biscuit tin labeled The Puzzle Lady and Crossword Biscuits.

The action switches to a churchyard and the body of a young woman. As the rain pours down, DCI Derek Hooper (Adam Best) inspects the scene. He finds what appears to be a crossword clue, and the title sequence begins.

At the police station, Hooper fills in the team that the victim was fully clothed except for her socks and shoes, which are missing.

Hooper shows the team the slip of paper. Danny says it looks like a crossword clue. Another member of the team, Sam, agrees.

Hooper says he knows nothing about crosswords, and Danny suggests he ask The Puzzle Lady, who’s just moved to Bakerbury.

The puzzle is after a five-letter word meaning line. The team goes over some ideas just as their puzzled mayor walks in. "Word games at a time like this," he scoffs. The mayor is worried, saying only serial killers leave notes on bodies. The mayor has serious doubts about Hooper's ability, but he assures him he's already well on the case.

Hooper phones Cora's house, but her niece Sherry (Charlotte Hope), picks up. Cora is crashed out in her car and still appears drunk. Sherry cleans up her aunt. Sherry quickly gives her a sweet to cover up her alcoholic breath and answers the door.

Hooper explains he needs help with the murder of a teenage girl. Hooper asks them about the clue, and Cora rather unhelpfully says instead of "D" for down, it could be "D" for Dead! Sherry hastily tells Hooper to leave the clue with them, and she's sure her aunt can solve it.

Hooper is walking along the street when Anton (Alistair Brammer), a journalist, starts asking him about the case. But Hooper brushes him off.

Cora and Sherry watch a news report of the case where Hooper says he hasn't got any leads, and the mayor says he's holding a town meeting at a luxury spa. Cora is intrigued, especially by the free bar.

Cora goes to the hotel for the mayor's conference. Hooper says they know the victim was killed last night at about 10 pm. Someone called Jimmi asks how she died, and Hooper says she had a blow to the back of the head, probably from a hammer. Hooper says there's no evidence of blood splatter in the graveyard, so she could have been killed somewhere else. Hooper stomps off as people start talking over him.

Hooper talks to Cora and isn't impressed that she's only come up with "queue" as the five-letter word for line. Anton notes Hooper talking to Cora. And the next day’s local paper has the headline: "Puzzle Lady Helps Police Hunt The Graveyard Killer." Cora and a reluctant Sherry head out to look for clues.

Cora heads to the church and talks to a worker there who found the body. Hooper arrives. Cora says, what if 4D Line 5 isn't a crossword clue at all? Maybe the killer wants them to count 4 graves down and 5 lines across.

They do just that and reach a grave. On the gravestone is marked our loving daughter Bonnie Burnside, who died aged 21 in 2015. Hooper says Bonnie died of a car accident and tells Cora and Sherry to stop wasting his time.

Cora heads to the library. Cora gets help from library assistant Jimmi. Cora asks Jimmi to dig out anything he can find about Bonnie.

Anton turns up at Cora's and talks to Sherry. She tells him to do some proper journalism and accidentally blurts out Cora's grave theory.

Cora goes to visit Bonnie's parents. She looks at a photo of Bonnie with her boyfriend, Cassie. Cora says perhaps Bonnie was the killer's first victim. Not surprisingly, Bonnie's dad is furious with Cora for coming up with such a wild theory and throws her out.

Anton asks Jimmi about the puzzle lady going to the library. Anton gives Jimmi some money, and he tells her what Cora was looking for.

Sherry shows Cora the latest newspaper report about her. Cora says she's determined to continue.

Cora goes to visit Hooper. He shows Cora footage of the victim arriving at Bakerbury station. The victim tries to make a call, but can't because her mobile is dead. Patricia and her daughter Chloe, who are from York, are at the station. Patricia says her elder daughter, Donna, has been missing since Wednesday.

Donna is the victim. Chloe says her parents have just gotten divorced, and now her big sister is dead. Chloe says she was always messaging someone, and it might have been a boy. Cora gives Chloe her mobile in case she remembers anything.

Anton gets blasted by his editor about his story. Bonnie's boyfriend at the time she died walks into the office and blasts Anton for writing rubbish about her and threatens him if he writes anything more.

Anton has a note on the desk, he opens it and it says: "Drop the Burnisde story or else."

A solicitor called Becky knocks at Cora's and Sherry answers.

Cora is out drinking and playing cards. Stewart, the husband of one of Cora’s pals, Vicky, turns up and asks for his house keys. Becky arrives with a legal letter telling Cora to stay away from the Burnsides. Interestingly, she knows Stuart. When she goes, Stuart says Becky used to work in his London practice, but they had to fire her. Cora wins at bridge.

Meanwhile, Anton calls at Sherry’s. Sherry says she edits Cora's crosswords, Cora walks in from her bridge night, and says she’s being modest and she could probably create them without her. Anton shows them his threatening note. Anton adds that the boyfriend also threatened him. Cora gets a call, and it seems Vicky has vanished on her way home. Cora says that when Vicky was at the bar, she got a text and seemed to blush when she read it. “She said it was from her husband, but what if she was lying. What if it was a lover?”

The trio drives to where they think Vicky might have gone with her lover and, by a stroke of luck, find her car! They then find her shoes. Cora says she thinks she knows where Vicky might be, and they head to the graveyard where they find her body. Hooper arrives at the scene. Like the first victim, her shoes and socks have been taken, and she was murdered with a hammer. Hooper finds a clue in her pocket. Her distraught husband, Stuart, arrives at the scene.

Later, Cora, Anton, and Sherry discuss the case. The clue this time is 14 across, a three-letter word for sheep. Sherry says it's yew. They pop the clue on the grid. Cora notes that Vicky’s body was dumped on Bonnie’s grave.

The next day, the mayor walks into Hooper's office and berates him over his lack of progress. The police do have a lead; the first victim was meeting someone called Sean. Cora asks about Vicky’s text message and the police check, and oddly, her husband texted her: "Don’t talk to strangers."

Cora goes to speak to Stuart, who starts crying.

Sherry and Anton speak to the cop who worked on the Burnside case in 2015. He recalls it was Bonfire Night and Bonnie had argued with her boyfriend. He said she drove off drunk, and he stayed to watch the fireworks. Bonnie's car hit a tree. Sherry asks if there was anything odd. He says the boyfriend's upset friend stated initially that his mate borrowed the car before the fireworks, and then he said he was mistaken, it was after.

Sherry and Anton go to the tree Bonnie hit. They talk about where the boyfriend drove after Bonnie in anger and forced her off the road. He then drives back to the party, makes a big show of being worried, and gets them to come with him to look for Bonnie so they witness him finding the wreck. Anton goes to kiss Sherry, but she backs away.

Hooper goes to visit Sean, who turns out to be someone called Gary. Gary pretended to be much younger and had set up a meeting with 16-year-old Donna. Hooper accuses him of murder. Gary says he never met up with Donna.

Cora follows Stuart as he heads into the police station. Hooper says they’ve interviewed a suspect, but they’ve had to release him. Cora sees the suspect, Gary, leaving and follows him.

Later, Anton goes to speak with Cora and asks for help with his crossword. She can't help, and he says that's because she doesn't know the first thing about crosswords and that Sherry does it. Cora admits she’s just a front for Sherry. Cora says Sherry wasn’t making much from puzzle setting and asked Cora to be the face of it. Cora says they had no idea it would make her famous.

The next morning, Sherry explains to Cora her theory that Bonnie’s boyfriend ran her off the road and killed her.

Cora goes to speak to solicitor Becky. She says that she behaved slightly oddly around Vicky at the bar because the previous week she had seen her with her husband, and he was pretending to be a mystery man. “Creepy couple thing,” as Becky puts it.

Cora speaks to Hooper and wonders what made Vicky drive to a remote spot that night. Cora wonders if her secret lover was in fact her husband, and they were playing a saucy game. Cora thinks that Stuart could have killed both victims. Cora tells Hooper to see if the message don’t talk to strangers pops up anywhere else on Vicky’s phone.

Hooper asks Stuart about the three times he sent Vicky the message don’t talk to strangers. Stuart says the message meant what it said, and he didn’t like his wife talking to strange men. Hooper says that sounds rather possessive. Stuart breaks down in tears.

Hooper’s daughter turns up at the station and says she thinks she knows who the killer is because she found a scrapbook belonging to Jimmi the librarian with loads of gross pictures.

Anton and Sherry go for a coffee. Sherry explains she’s just got divorced, and that’s why she acted weirdly when he tried to kiss her. Becky comes over. Things get awkward, turns out Anton was with Becky at one point. Cora calls Anton’s phone.

We next see Cora, Anton, and Sherry in an underground car park. There’s another body. The victim is called Ali, and she ran the antique shop. Again, the killer again took the shoes. Hooper says it’s unlikely Stuart is the killer because when the murder took place, he was questioning him. Anton solves the latest clue. The answer is aye. Hooper sums up that they have three bodies, three clues, and no answers.

Cora gets a call from a couple of youths she's asked to follow Gary. She sees Gary in a pub talking to a woman. Cora snaps the pair.

Anton and Sherry are about to kiss when Cora walks through the door. Cora has a mysterious note telling her to follow the clues. They head to the graveyard. This time they go 14 across and then 18 down. On a grave, they find a box with a question mark on it.

Inside is a hammer, and the clue is a three-letter word for Earl Grey. Cora is delighted, as for once she knows the answer: tea. Cora, on a roll, says the first letters of the answers spell out quit. Is it a threat, or is the killer saying they’ve finished? Cora notices a piece of tape inside the box and what looks like hair underneath.

Anton turns out not to be meeting his mother but Becky in a bar! Becky says she’s sorry for hurting him. Becky wants to get back together, but Anton says he’s met someone else. And he leaves.

The next day at the police station, Becky marches in and asks why the Burnsides have been asked to provide a printing sample, and Hooper says because Anton was sent a threatening note.

Hooper confirms the hammer in the shoebox is the murder weapon. The hair is a match for Gary. Cora says he can’t be the murderer and that he’s being framed. Becky then sticks the knife in with Sherry and says to her to tell Anton thanks for their dinner last night. Ouch!

Cora gives a TV interview, and Sherry is horrified because it means Dennis, who is her ex-husband, will know they’re in Bakerbury. Cora says sorry to Sherry.

Cora takes a call from Chloe, who says it's her fault Donna is dead. Cora and Sherry talk to Chloe. She says they had an argument about a maths exam paper. Chloe explains she was better at maths and was helping her. Sherry asks to have a look at Donna's exam paper. Sherry asks if Donna got the first three questions right, and she says yes. Sherry says the answer to the fourth question is D Line. Cora says so; it was never a crossword clue. Later, Sherry tells the team that it explains why the note in Donna’s pocket was the only handwritten one. Cora says the killer then added clues to put the police on a false trail.

Cora says the killer is clever, and thus it seems unlikely dopey Gary is the murderer. Hooper gets angry and says Cora is getting in the way of the case, and throws her out of the station.

Sherry sees Anton outside and tells him she doesn't want anything to do with him because he lied about seeing Becky. Anton hits back that she’s been lying about who The Puzzle Lady is, but she leaves.

The cop’s daughter Katy, follows the librarian, Jimmi, to a shed. She looks inside the shed when he leaves, and there’s a hammer inside and what may be blood.

At the station, Hooper says one of the killer's letters is a match for the library. He then remembers what Katie said about being suspicious of Jimmy.

Cora and Sherry head to the antique shop run by the latest victim. They break into the shop. Cora produces a gun, which she says she got off her fourth husband! Cora looks at her diary and discovers the victim cancelled a meeting on the day she died. The meeting was meant to be with AA. Cora and Sherry argue. Cora finds a certificate on the wall, Art Authentication, AA.

She calls the number for AA and says on the phone, it’s The Puzzle Lady here. Ali made a copy of the certificate. Let’s not play games. She says she can hand it to the police, or they could come to an arrangement.

Hooper is looking for his daughter.

Sherry has a message from her ex threatening to expose The Puzzle Lady as a fake. Bonnie's boyfriend then walks in and threatens Sherry with a knife. He admits being responsible for Bonnie’s death but insists he's made up for that by being a good person. Sherry is shocked and starts whacking him over the head with a frying pan. Becky then walks in, and Sherry asks for help tying him up!

Katy is watching Jimmi at the graveside, and he spots her. He just helps her up.

The police arrest the boyfriend for Bonnie's murder. Anton arrives. Becky says she came over to say she recognised the mystery woman who Cora saw in the pub with Gary. She saw her in a lift at her old job in London, and she was with Stuart.

Sherry has a text from Cora: "Gone to meet the killer in the graveyard. Send the police".

Jimmy has creepily got Katie to pose as a victim in the graveyard, but they’re disturbed by the sound of a car.

Cora confronts killer Stuart

Cora is there, and so is Stuart. He asks if she has the certificate. Cora pulls out her gun. Cora says she wants to know she's right. She says Stuart had no idea his first victim, Donna, had a note in her pocket later mistaken for a crossword clue. When the story was printed in the paper Stuart decided to use it to his advantage. His real goal was to murder his wife. So he picked a random victim, Donna, to make Vicky’s murder appear random.

But Cora says his mistake was his third victim was far from random. Ali was an art expert helping Vicky sell her late mother’s antiques. She found something priceless in that house. Stuart killed her so no one would know about the priceless object.

Stuart says he was with Hooper when Ali was killed. Cora says the meeting in the diary, scheduled for 12, was for Ali to give Stuart the art authentication certificate. After finding the police station closed, he changed the meeting time to four. Cora says Stuart has an accomplice. She killed Ali in the car park to get the certificate and to give Stuart an alibi. At that moment, Stuart’s accomplice arrives on the scene. They have a tussle, and the gun goes off. The accomplice now has the gun but gives it to Stuart.

Then, from nowhere, Jimmi tackles Stuart, and they land in an empty grave. They fight. Stuart comes out the best and gets out of the grave and starts to strangle Cora. But she strikes him on the head with a vase and grabs the gun. The police arrive.

Hooper hugs his daughter. Cora says the priceless piece of art must be in Stuart's car, and she finds it in the boot. "I know a Turner when I see one," boasts Cora. "Do you? It’s a Constable," retorts Hooper.

Sherry tells Anton she ca''t date him as she needs to work things through. Sherry leaves a message on her ex’s phone saying that if he exposes Cora, she will tell the world he’s a wife-beater.

The next morning, Sherry and Cora discuss the case and read Anton's newspaper report about their expertise.

Entitled "Almost Okay," the debut ep sees patriarch Harlan Buckley (Holt McCallany)—fresh off yet another heart attack, though that won't stop him from "drinking and whoring" around town—contending with a secret business deal set up by his wife Belle (Maria Bello) and son Cane (Jake Weary) that goes very, very wrong.

Here's everything that went down in The Waterfront episode 1.

There's more than fish on those boats

We're out on the water in the dark of night, with two men—whom we later find out are Curtis and Troy, employees of the Buckley family's fishing business—aboard the Miss Glory. Between the late hour and the ominous music, it's clear a clandestine meeting is in the works, but one that quickly goes awry, as a group of gun-wielding men take over the boat, tie Curtis and Troy up in fishing net and throw them overboard.

It's a concerning scene, no doubt, but most of all to Cane Buckley, who is not only the owner of that boat but also the mastermind behind that failed meeting. With the Miss Glory washed ashore the next morning—the hold fully cleaned out, and no traces of fingerprints or residue left behind—and DEA agents sniffing around the case, Cane desperately rushes over to the court office, where he bribes his cousin Lynette to have the ownership of the Miss Glory fraudulently moved from him to Curtis Sutton, with a predated and forged signature to make everything look legit. What exactly is Cane covering up?

Parents just don't understand

While his son is running about town like a headless chicken, dad Harlan is dealing with his own rough morning: namely, waking up in his mistress's bed to severe heart pain. At the hospital, his wife Belle—who doesn't seem surprised in the slightest at her husband's infidelity—informs him about the Miss Glory mess, which has Harlan angrily ripping off the IVs and medical monitors to track down his son.

It seems that, due to his cardiac issues, Harlan has informally stepped away from the family business, leaving things largely in Cane's care where the boats are concerned. (Mom Belle and sister Bree run the restaurant side of things, much to the latter's chagrin.) And while Cane keeps his cool when initially questioned by the DEA about what happened the night prior aboard the Miss Glory, he's far less collected when Harlan tracks him down, greeting his son with a hefty right hook.

It turns out that Cane and Belle had engineered a dangerous side-gig for the family's fishing boats: running drug deals onboard to pay off the business's considerable debts, which had accumulated under Harlan's leadership. The haul that Curtis and Troy were supposed to handle the night prior was for $10 million's worth of cocaine and opiates—the kind of sum a person would kill for.

Cane reveals that he's been working on the drug runs with Hoyd Piper (Scott Deckert), who is the middleman of a mysterious supplier simply known as Owen. A furious Harlan tells him to set up a meeting with Hoyt: "I'm going to take control of things."

Add mommy issues to the list, too

Clearly things are contentious between father and son in the Buckley family, but the parental relationship isn't so smooth between Bree (Melissa Benoist) and her teen son. A former addict, Bree is in recovery and has lost custody of Diller (Brady Hepner), meaning that she gets yelled at from her baby daddy for showing up to Diller's swim relay without a court order and can only enjoy a meal with her child under the surveillance of a court-appointed chaperone.

Bree is also frustrated that she's being saddled with training the restaurant's new bartender Shawn (Rafael L. Silva) instead of having a real grown-up job in the office like her brother, which seems to fuel some animosity between the siblings. That animosity seemingly won't be easing up anytime soon, especially if Cane finds out that his sister offered up Hoyt's name to that DEA agent.

Old high-school loves die hard

In between all of the Miss Glory drama, Cane runs into an old paramour, his high-school girlfriend Jenna (Humberly Gonzalez), a big-city journalist who is back in Havenport to take care of her ailing father.

There's a spark between them, which would be all well and good if Cane didn't have a wife, Peyton (Danielle Campbell), and young daughter at home. Jenna, too, is married, a fact that she reminds Cane of when he arrives unannounced and liquored-up at her father's home for a late-night chat.

Cane comes clean about why he never left Havenport—he had a full-ride football scholarship in Florida, but his father told him he'd never make it to the pros, so he turned it down—because he hates that he lied to her. Jenna tells him she hopes they can be friends.

Blood in the water

Cane brings Hoyt to meet Harlan on his boat—however, not even a $3,000 bottle of whiskey can ease Hoyt's nerves, with the dealer quickly clocking the two workers that Harlan has brought onboard as extra muscle. Accusing Hoyt of taking the $10 million of drugs for himself, Harlan has the men chum the waters to attract sharks and lift Hoyt above the deadly waters below. The sharp-toothed threat works, with Hoyt revealing that the pricey stash is locked up in a secret shed off the highway.

The men seek out the shed and find the contraband—until law enforcement shows up, that is. Hoyt begins to explain to Sheriff Clyde Porter (Michael Gaston) that he's been kidnapped and that the Buckleys are behind a massive drug deal but can't finish his pleadings before the sheriff shockingly puts a bullet in his head. Harlan gets it before the rest do: Sheriff Porter is the mysterious Owen.

Clyde tells Harlan that he always looked up to him growing up, but now the mighty Buckleys of Havenport owe him. And the first bidding would be to get rid of Hoyt's body, with father and son dumping the man into a swamp to let the gators take care of the rest. Just what are the Buckley boys getting themselves into?

After a summer of secrets coming to light, We Were Liars episode 7 reveals what happened in the lead-up to Cady’s (Emily Alyn Lind) accident. The catastrophic event was so devastating that Cady still can’t remember everything before she was found washed up on the beach, but she is getting closer to the truth.

At the heart of the discontent during Summer 16 is the games the mothers — Penny (Caitlin FitzGerald), Carrie (Mamie Gummer) and Bess (Candice King) — continue to play as they stab each other in the back for a bigger slice of the Sinclair family inheritance. However, Cady, Johnny (Joseph Zada) and Mirren (Esther McGregor) refuse to join in with their petty antics.

When Cady confronts Harris (David Morse) about his racist views, an accident allows The Liars to spend time on Beechwood alone. Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) returns, and together they devise a plan to end the inheritance madness.

Vying for Harris Sinclair’s attention

Back in Summer 16, Cady is moping about thinking of Gat. Penny tells her daughter to get it together as the family dinner is the last opportunity to influence Harris before he revises his will. The Liars defying the recent Lemon Hunt rattled the mothers, who each want their child to be on their best behavior.

The first disapproving comment from Harris comes when Bess (Candice King) says her disgraced husband took the twins (as well as Carrie’s other son, Will) to horse camp. Harris mentions the criminal activity and bad judgment of character, immediately putting Bess on the defensive.

Bess reveals that Blake’s mother phoned her to tell her about the video of Johnny assaulting another teen. Bess also has dirt on Penny as she brings up the fixer that Penny has added to her divorce team, suggesting her sister has something to hide.

In return, Carrie (Mamie Gummer) brings up the scratches on Bess’ back that she got from having sex with Salty Dan (Tim Rozon) at the tennis court earlier that day. The dogs bark from the other room, and Penny is sent to calm them down. While Penny laces their food with their anxiety medication, she tells Cady to “stay the course” while Bess and Carrie destroy each other.

The Liars refuse to play the game

Cady has other plans. Rather than turn an anecdote about missing her grandmother into point scoring, Cady brings up that lemons symbolize colonization, which she learned from Gat. “That boy” is how Harris angrily refers to Gat when Cady says she wants to travel with Gat next summer.

Another source of contention occurs when Johnny realizes that Harris made Carrie choose between covering up Johnny’s crime and getting married to the man she loves. Mirren thinks that Harris is making everyone act crazy, causing Harris to tell them all that the inheritance is no longer in play. They will each get what they have earned, and it seems like no one will be named heir to Beechwood.

A bloody confrontation

Cady follows Harris outside and calls him out for not liking Gat or Ed (Rahul Koli). Harris claims he has high standards. “White standards?” Cady responds. She points out that they would ruin his perfect blonde family portrait. Harris rejects the notion that he is a racist, but he slips on the stairs and hits his head. The emergency helicopter at the end of episode 6 was for Harris, not Cady.

On a happier note, Gat did make it back to Beechwood, and everyone is thrilled to see him. Cady sent the entire staff home because of everything they had dealt with that day, meaning for the first time ever, they have the whole island to themselves.

First, they clean up the mess left from the big dinner, and while they are doing this, Cady sneaks off to look for the will in Harris’ office (as her mother instructed). Outside, Cady talks to Gat about why he came back. He says that he loves Beechwood. Cady worries that reality has seeped into their idyllic paradise, but she sees Gat now in a way she hadn’t before.

Gat writes “Never surrender to the devil you know best” on the back of Cady’s hands, matching what was written the night of her accident.

Inside, Johnny is recreating the Tom Cruise dance scene from Risky Business using one of the ivory elephants as a microphone. Johnny slips and accidentally smashes the elephant (worth $100,000). Mirren walks in and smashes the other one, saying it is symbolic, like the much shorter haircut she has just given herself.

The Liars want to make a statement

Penny phones with an update that Harris has a concussion and needed a few stitches, but he also needs to be transferred to Boston due to abnormalities on his CT that aren’t from the fall. The teens wonder if this is why he has been acting so erratically. However, Gat thinks Harris has always been like this.

Cady calls Harris a “racist piece of s***” and thinks it's way too late to impact his views. They wonder if their mothers are so screwed up because Harris has been playing inheritance games for a long time. Cady then reveals she found the will.

Outside by the fire, Cady tells her cousins that Bess gets the Boston house, and Carrie and Penny get a sizable quarterly stipend as long as neither remarries. Cady throws the will on the fire and doesn’t tell The Liars that Beechwood is bequeathed to Cady.

Johnny suggests they trash the house and crash Harris’ boat to give a message. Cady thinks whatever they do, Harris will cover up, but maybe they should do something bigger, like get rid of all the material things, as their moms need a lesson.

An image of Clairmont in Summer 16 cuts to Cady in the present. “There was a fire. I remember it now. We burned this place to the ground,” Cady tells Mirren and Johnny.

Summers on Beechwood Island are marked by familiar events like Father’s Day and the Fourth of July, but the Sinclairs also celebrate unique traditions. As shown in We Were Liars episode 6, one such annual extravaganza is Tipper’s Lemon Hunt, which goes ahead even after her untimely death. However, Harris (David Morse) ups the stakes, making his daughters more competitive than ever.

In the present, Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) and Cady (Emily Alyn Lind) spend the day together on Martha’s Vineyard as Cady defies her mother, Penny’s (Caitlin FitzGerald), orders to stay in her room. But the perfect date is not what it seems, and Cady is concerned about her mental health.

Cady also remembers more from Summer 16, including that Gat left the island. What made him return?

Looking for answers

In Summer 17, Gat and Cady are basking in their post-coital glow, but Cady’s questions about the previous year are a reality check. She wants to know if Harris scared Gat away: is this why he didn’t visit? Before discussing this further, a furious Penny orders Cady to return to Clairmont. Penny grounds Cady as one of Penny’s friends saw Cady jump off Sunset Bluff, which is incredibly dangerous.

Cady explains she was trying to trigger memories because Penny won’t tell her what happened. However, Penny told Cady the truth in the hospital. Every time, Cady would have “an episode” and not remember when she woke up again. “It is your own broken brain you’re raging against,” Penny tells her daughter.

Rather than listen to her mom, Cady decides to take the boat to Martha’s Vineyard to use the internet there because Google won’t gaslight her; Gat agrees to go with her.

A Lemon Hunt surprise

In Summer 16, tension simmers between the different generations. Harris requests to see Gat, asking what his intentions are with Cady, with the motive to get Gat away from his oldest grandchild, Cady. Harris has another surprise for Gat: his mother, Maya (Karen David), is there.

Harris hasn’t managed his goal, as Gat and Cady are going strong in Summer 17. But when Cady looks for more about her accident online, she sees flashes of the past, and another migraine is coming on. Gat catches her, saying they should look this up when she feels better. For now, ice cream and kisses are an antidote as they enjoy their first real date. Cady wonders if her mother is right that she is losing her mind, but Gat thinks she just needs more time to heal.

They return to talking about Summer 16, with Gat saying his mother’s arrival meant seeing Beechwood through her eyes. Maya can’t quite believe the pomp and circumstance on display. Gat says this isn’t a regular Tuesday, but what follows surprises the entire family.

The Lemon Hunt is similar to an egg hunt at Easter. In the past, the person with the most lemons (of 200 hidden) won a bookstore gift card, and the one who found the single lime was given fudge as the prize. Harris has changed Tipper’s rules, and the lemon champion will win the deed to the Boston house. The person who finds the lime will be named the sole recipient of Beechwood when Harris dies. Not a regular Tuesday.

Stiff competition

Each of the moms desperately wants to win the prizes on offer. Gat is one of the only people not running around the island. He tells his mother he found the lime in Summer 8, but Harris said there must have been cheating and split the fudge with Johnny. On Beechwood, Gat cannot win. Maya calls Beechwood “Knives Out meets Get Out,” and is disturbed by Gat’s code-switching. However, Gat doesn’t care because Cady is here.

Meanwhile, the Sinclairs do what they can to win. Penny brings up Salty Dan (Tim Rozon) in front of Carrie, who didn’t know about this dalliance. They all turn on each other, with Carrie’s addiction getting made fun of. Bess and Penny claim they are happy and know exactly who they are before it descends into teary and shouting chaos, with Gat witnessing the embarrassing mess.

Gat then sees Harris locking the lime in his desk drawer; the Sinclair patriarch had zero intention of bequeathing the island to anyone. The rest of The Liars argue about lemons and secrets, with Gat coming upon this scene and telling them they are like their moms. This comparison snaps the trio back to reality, and they say sorry to each other. Gat reveals he has the lime but knows he can’t win.

A lemon loophole

The Liars are the last to return to have their lemons counted. Cady, Johnny (Joseph Zada) and Mirren (Esther McGregor) have empty baskets because they gave all their lemons to Gat (who still has the lime). Harris says their collusion means the prizes are void.

However, Harris offers Gat a chance to win a spot on Tipper’s scholarship program. Gat will have to go to New York immediately, and the internship will keep him away next summer. It all feels very convenient. Gat accepts this opportunity, leading to Cady’s confusion in the present timeline because Gat should be abroad as part of the scholarship and not at Beechwood.

The neurological incident while going online was worse than Cady knew, as she is not sitting on the dock of Martha’s Vineyard like she thought she was, but is in bed. There was no ice cream or first date as Penny had to collect Cady after she took a turn after she went on the internet.

Something happened before Gat could attend the interview, explaining why he is still there. Back in Summer 16, Gat and Maya meet Ed on Martha’s Vineyard, and Gat is disturbed to hear that Harris sent the private jet to collect his mom. Gat asks Ed if it is too late for The Liars not to become like their mothers, and Ed thinks they are different; they have all the time in the world to do things.

Gat realizes he needs to return to the island, but is told only emergency boats are running as an incident has occurred on Beechwood.

As we learn in We Were Liars episode 5, summer on Beechwood is far from the sun-dappled paradise of Cady (Emily Alyn Lind) and the rest of The Liars' youth. But a literal storm in Summer 16 and a near-death experience for Johnny (Joseph Zada) and Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) leads to the teens burying the hatchet. If only the adult Sinclairs would follow in their footsteps, as Penny (Caitlin FitzGerald) is thrilled when she discovers Bess (Candiace King) has been unfaithful.

The past is full of painful memories coming to light for Cady. Still, it isn’t all bad when she recalls a romantic encounter with Gat during Summer 16. This passion boils over in the present as it becomes clear that these feelings remain despite Cady’s anger that none of the Liars came to visit her in the hospital. Perhaps they can begin to move forward with their lives.

The approaching storm

In the present, Cady is still in bed after having a seizure during the Fourth of July fireworks. Penny and Gat watch over her, but can do little about the nightmares. Back in Summer 16, the teens are being used as pawns by their parents to regain Harris’ (David Morse) approval.

Johnny is angry that Ed (Rahul Koli) left after Carrie (Mamie Gummer) rejected Ed’s proposal; he wants to make it right. However, Carrie forbids him from telling anyone what she paid to cover up. They must make it right with Harris, as he is their only chance of weathering the scandal. Johnny sucks up to his grandfather at lunch when Cady objects to the ivory elephants in the collection and Harris’ racist language.

Afterward, Johnny tells his cousin that their grandfather isn’t racist, just old. Tension remains, yet Johnny and Gat cannot refuse to work together when Harris asks them to secure the boats before the storm hits.

Mirren (Esther McGregor) is absent as she has been painting at the lighthouse. She runs into new beau Ebon (Dempsey Bryk), who is sheltering in place, giving the pair another chance to hook up away from the prying eyes of the Sinclairs. Mirren shows Ebon what she has been working on, mentioning not to touch as the canvas takes weeks to dry. Ebon calls her “technically skilled,” which she takes to mean they lack creative flair. In her anger, she hits one of the pieces, smudging the paint and unlocking how to make them stand out. Mirren does this to all her work, but hesitates regarding her “masterpiece.” It is a beautiful painting of The Liars on the beach. But when she smudges the colors, it creates a more evocative image.

Sister secrets

Johnny thinks they would not become friends if he met Gat now because they have nothing in common. This argument ceases to be important when they realize a boat is missing and that his younger brother, Will (Brady Droulis), must’ve taken it out after Johnny blew him off that morning. The storm is now raging, and they have to act fast.

A different furor is brewing inside the main house when Penny confronts Cady for calling out Harris in front of everyone. Penny then brings up what Bess said about seeing Cady and Gat flirting on the beach, saying that Cady needs more discretion. “She’s one to talk about discretion,” Cady responds. Penny won’t let this comment go and gets her daughter to spill the tea.

It doesn’t take long for Penny to find Bess and tell her that Mirren saw her mother having sex with Salty Dan (Tim Rozon). Bess is already smarting from the dressing down her father gave about her husband’s failure. When Bess finds Mirren at the lighthouse with Ebon, she orders Ebon to leave and unleashes her anger at her daughter by punching a hole through Mirren’s favorite painting.

Looking for Will

Harris realizes Will must have gone out on the water when the twins say they cannot find him anywhere, and that Gat and Johnny are missing too. When Carrie is alerted to her sons’ disappearance, she asks someone to call Ed.

Gat and Johnny find Will but cannot get close to him, so Johnny dives into the choppy water to reach him. He gives his little brother a life vest, but as they approach their boat, Johnny becomes overwhelmed with tiredness and goes under. Gat dives in, getting both Will and Johnny to safety.

There is a tearful reunion when Ed brings the boys back. Johnny tells Gat he “would’ve been f***ed without you.” In the present, Johnny still won’t tell Cady exactly what he did (other than it having nothing to do with her), but he admits to Gat in Summer 16 that a revenge plan against the opposing tennis team turned violent.

Carrie paid off everyone who knew about him beating up the teen who walked in on the prank. Blake has a video of this and is using it as blackmail. Johnny says he saw red when it happened, a phrase Carrie uses about Johnny’s birth dad. Johnny admits to being privileged in all the wrong ways.

Later during Summer 16, when Harris praises Johnny for being a hero, Johnny tells his grandfather that it was his fault, as he forgot all the vital rules about storms, and that Gat and Ed saved the day.

Triggering memories

Cady remembers arguing with Mirren because Cady told her mother about Bess sleeping with Salty Dan. But in the present, the rupture is not an issue. However, Cady is annoyed that the other Liars jumped off Sunset Bluffs without her. They think it is too dangerous for her (Johnny doesn’t), but Cady leaps into the water anyway.

But it isn’t FOMO that Cady was feeling. Instead, she tells Gat she thought this might trigger memories of why she was in the water the night of her accident. Gat is angry that she took that risk, while Cady is still furious they didn’t visit her in the hospital.

Anger turns into passion, revealing that Gat and Cady previously slept together during Summer 16. They recreate this moment in the present timeline. Will this heightened emotion unlock more secrets?

Like most American families, fireworks are a Fourth of July tradition that the Sinclairs enjoy. However, this celebration turns ugly in both the present and past when Johnny’s (Joseph Zada) secrets bubble to the surface in We Were Liars episode 4

Now that Cady (Emily Alyn Lind) knows what happened on the day of her grandmother Tipper’s (Wendy Crewson) funeral, she is more determined than ever to find out if there is a connection between Johnny’s lies and her accident. In the past, the three moms, Penny (Caitlin FitzGerald), Carrie (Mamie Gummer) and Bess (Candice King), keep up their competitive dynamic as they vie for their dad’s approval.

Pie and parties

In Summer 16, Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) thinks it’s odd that Harris (David Morse) is pretending he didn’t just lose his wife, but that’s the Sinclair way. Meanwhile, Carrie accuses Penny of wanting to keep up their mother’s Fourth of July pie-baking tradition as a power move to get back in their father’s good graces. It turns petty again when Bess reminds her two sisters that she hasn’t touched a cent of her trust fund.

Meanwhile, The Liars throw a teens-only party at the Windemere house with plenty of booze and a slip & slide. The moms are aware of this “secret” rager, finding it amusing that their kids are following in their footsteps.

Mirren (Esther McGregor) didn’t want Salty Dan (Tim Rozon) to deliver the supplies for their bash. Still, she is unhappy with his replacement, Ebon (Dempsey Bryk) — especially when Ebon mentions he knows about her mom’s affair.

Johnny runs into Ed (Rahul Koli), who is grabbing something from the house and wants to run his proposal plans by his future stepson. Johnny is thrilled but distracted. Ed asks if he has something else on his mind; Johnny lies, saying he is fine.

Baking and blackmail

Back in the Clairmont kitchen, the pie baking becomes a bonding session as the sisters start singing “Linger” by The Cranberries. But when Carrie ends up covered in flour thanks to a blender blunder, it leads to tears because she is furious she didn’t make time to learn how to make a pie with Tipper. Penny launches into the “chin up” directive, immediately killing the mood.

Carrie then puts her foot in it when Cady and Gat come in to grab a few things, as she mentions that she ran into Gat’s girlfriend earlier. Cady has told Gat that everything is fine between them and says Gat should invite Raquel. Of course, Cady doesn’t want him to do this.

Penny’s pie comes out of the oven looking perfect, but the other two are burned. Bess thinks Penny purposefully sabotaged them, destroying the only edible one. Penny has a panic attack, which Bess thinks she is faking. “You have no idea what it feels like to be a failure in Dad’s eyes,” Carrie says.

At the teen party, Johnny is furious when he sees that Mirren has invited the guys on his tennis team. This angry outburst is something that Cady is focused on in Summer 17. Gat says he has never paid attention to Johnny’s rich kid drama, and when Cady pushes him further, he points out that maybe her mind is trying to protect her.

Gat gives her nothing, so Cady searches Johnny’s bedroom and finds Johnny’s phone. She sees a threatening text from Blake with an attached video; Blake’s message says that keeping him quiet will cost a lot.

Heartbreak and hooking up

In Summer 16. Harris continues to be disappointed by his daughters. He tells Carrie that Penny is spending twice her budget, Bess has nothing (despite what she said about her trust) and he knows Carrie needs something. Carrie explains she did have savings with Ed, but an incident at Johnny’s school has drained their accounts. Carrie took care of it, and Ed doesn’t know. Carrie needs her dad because whatever Johnny did could smear the Sinclair name.

On the beach, Johnny finds Ed setting up the proposal picnic. Ed knows something is up with Johnny, but before he can find out what, a teary Carrie asks Johnny to leave so they can have one-on-one time. Carrie tells Ed she can’t marry him. Ed doesn’t understand why, and Carrie can’t explain. Ed says Johnny’s problems are his problems, yet that isn’t enough. It appears that Harris made Carrie a deal that led to this breakup.

At The Liars' party, Mirren is having more romantic success as her annoyance at Ebon turns into flirtation. She has also collected rich people's secrets and feels as invisible as Ebon. This common ground leads to kisses and more.

Apologizing and angry attacks

Cady spends the whole party drinking too much and trying to make Gat jealous. When she sobers up, she apologizes for her behavior. Gat didn’t even bring Raquel to the party; he went to Martha’s Vineyard to break up with her in person. The fireworks begin, and their reconciliation is interrupted by Johnny standing on the cliff's edge, throwing bottles and crying.

In the present, Cady connects Johnny’s phone to the Wi-Fi so she can play the video that shows Johnny beating someone to a pulp. In the previous episode, Blake said Johnny nearly killed someone. Carrie walks in on Cady watching this and gets upset when she sees what Cady has found. Johnny begs his mother to return his phone, but the damage is done. Carrie knows what Johnny did, but this might be her first time seeing it.

Cady runs outside, where the fireworks are going off. Johnny yells at her for going through his phone; he is sick of her playing the victim card. There is a lot of shouting as Cady collapses and starts having a seizure. The doctor said screens are triggering, and the stress of the argument with Johnny hasn’t helped. Did Johnny have something to do with her accident?

Having now remembered events leading up to the death of her beloved grandmother Tipper (Wendy Crewson), Cady (Emily Alyn Lind) turns to the rest of The Liars to fill in the blanks of Tipper’s memorial in We Were Liars episode 3. Johnny (Joseph Zada), Mirren (Esther McGregor) and Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) are reluctant to dredge up the past, as they are forbidden to tell Cady about the previous summer. Cady says she needs closure, so the trio reluctantly agrees to recount the roller coaster events of that particular day.

But Cady has an ulterior motive beyond getting a play-by-play, underscoring how shaky trust is when memories are gone — or at least slowly coming back. This insight also reveals that their three moms, Penny (Caitlin FitzGerald), Carrie (Mamie Gummer) and Bess (Candice King), are no longer holding back now that their mother is no longer available to referee their squabbles.

Meanwhile, in Summer 17, Cady uncovers a hard truth about someone close to her that could change everything.

Following the Sinclair rules

In the present, Cady sees her grandfather Harris (David Morse) for the first time since returning to Beechwood. Cady tells him she knew Tipper was dead, but there is a difference between knowing and remembering. While she recalls the night Tipper died, Cady asks Harris to tell her about the memorial. But he refuses. In response, Cady can’t help but get frustrated regarding the major renovations the main house, Clairmont, has undergone. Cady is forthcoming in voicing her opinion that Tipper would hate the style, while Cady is also angry she didn’t get a chance to say goodbye before the contractors came in.

Bess interrupts the heated argument, telling Cady to go to the rose garden if she wants to feel close to Tipper. But when Cady does this, she collapses with another painful migraine.

The previous year, Penny had told Cady that the key to getting over something is not to think or talk about something painful. She will never fall apart if she follows these rules to make her heart a small target. Of course, her mother’s advice is flawed; Cady’s lack of memories is causing her to spiral.

Asking The Liars

The Liars have moved into the vacant Cuddledown vacation home because Bess is now in Clairmont with the twins to be close to Harris. The trio says Cady passed out due to a “painkiller bender” and wonders if Harris's yelling at her was the cause. Cady is desperate to find out what happened at the memorial, and they agree to share this part of Summer 16.

On the day of the funeral, unsurprisingly Carrie is the most visibly upset, as her two sisters have perfected the steely look. Cady follows her mother’s lead and gives Gat the cold shoulder. The church is full of friends and family, but Johnny looks concerned about seeing tennis rival Blake Beaumont (Cale Ambrozic). There is much more to their shared history than he is telling.

Back at Beechwood, Mirren tells her cousins that the guy she has been sexting is there. It turns out it’s Blake, but Johnny doesn’t let on that Mirren has been talking to someone he loathes.

Meanwhile, Penny reveals to Carrie that she took the beloved black pearls their father wanted Tipper buried in. Carrie is furious about this. Not because Penny defied her father’s wishes, but because she wanted the pearls for herself. Penny makes an addiction jab at Carrie (who is now sober), and Bess quickly gets involved in this petty squabble.

Ulterior motives

On the beach, Blake tells Mirren he has no agenda, he just wanted to see her. Mirren was nervous because she thought he expected sex, but his lack of expectations leads her to want to lose her virginity to him. Mirren asks Cady to entertain Blake before sending him to the Cuddledown house, where Mirren will be ready. At this point in the story, Johnny wants to stop, and Cady quickly learns why. She overhears Johnny accusing Blake of using Mirren to get to him, then walks in on the two men kissing.

Blake never made it to Cuddledown. After their passionate argument, Blake left on the water taxi. Mirren discovers that Blake was bragging about “bagging a Sinclair” in front of the water taxi driver, Ebon (Dempsey Bryk). She is angry at Ebon for listening in on a customer conversation and telling her about it, even if he is trying to be helpful.

Meanwhile, Cady is still doing the ice queen bit. Gat explains this is why he didn’t tell her in the first place; he didn’t want to be exiled. Cady is mad because he was right about what he said about her privilege, and she felt stupid for thinking the flower letter was for her.

The sisters continue their petty squabbling about various heirlooms in front of their father. None of this is endearing, and he knows they treated their mother like a checkbook without limits. Harris is deeply ashamed of their behavior even before he realizes Penny is wearing the pearls (that he takes back). There will be no more handouts.

A blackmail plot

While the adults are more fractured than before, the four teens have come back together to drink to Tipper’s memory. Cady forgives Gat; Gat and Johnny make up. Cady says the four of them feel like heaven to her.

However, she is less sure in Summer 17 because she knows Johnny lied to her. She tells Gat that she remembered Tipper’s memorial while she was in the rose garden. Cady explains this subterfuge because she needed to find out who was lying about last summer, she now knows Johnny is because the kiss with Blake never happened. Cady actually walked in on Blake threatening Johnny about having proof of Johnny nearly killing someone.

Gat brushes it off as “prep school rivalry s***,” with nothing to do with her accident. Cady is desperate for answers and needs Gat’s help figuring out why she was alone in the water. Rather than leap at the opportunity, Gat calls her out for becoming a liar herself because this whole thing was a test of loyalty. Who can Cady turn to now?

It has been nearly a whole year since Cady’s (Emily Alyn Lind) accident, which she still has zero recollection of, when We Were Liars episode 2 begins. Given how close she is to her cousins, Johnny (Joseph Zada) and Mirren (Esther McGregor), and family friend Gat (Shubham Maheshwari), it’s a surprise that none of them have spoken to her since the mysterious incident.

Cady is determined to return to Beechwood to start remembering what everyone else wants her to forget. The last thing she recalls is the perfect kiss with Gat. The next thing she remembers is waking up in the hospital in August, meaning there is a lot to fill in.

On the island in the present, Cady has an emotional reunion with the rest of The Liars (Johnny, Mirren and Gat) and begins to remember, including the events from the Father’s Day festivities that end with a devastating loss.

Back on Beechwood

The Cady of Summer 17 looks nothing like the previous year. She has dyed her blonde hair black, and her infectious enthusiasm is replaced by amnesia and migraines. Cady and her mother, Penny (Caitlin FitzGerald), are greeted upon their arrival by Penny’s sister Carrie (Mamie Gummer). Cady is aghast that Clairmont (the main house) has undergone significant renovation.

Regardless, Cady is hopeful she will unlock the secrets of Summer 16. Cady recalls getting a letter from Gat the day after their passionate first kiss. Inside is a candy, not the flower she was expecting. During this flashback to Summer 16, Cady tells Mirren about having a moment with Gat the night before. Mirren, like Johnny, is concerned that The Liars' dynamic will change.

Mirren is also distracted because she saw her mother, Bess (Candice King), sleeping with Salty Dan (Tim Rozon) the night before. Guilt continues to eat at Mirren when her father, Brody (Dylan Bruce) makes his late arrival, and she tells the Liars about her mother’s infidelity. The secrets of the past keep piling up.

Reuniting with The Liars

Cady nervously approaches The Liars in Summer 17. Johnny and Mirren immediately embrace her while Gat hangs back. Cady says she can’t remember what she did wrong to warrant them giving her the cold shoulder. Even if they had texted, Cady wouldn’t know, as Cady’s parents took away her phone because screens worsen her migraines. The Liars claim they weren’t with Cady the night of her accident and don’t know how she ended up in the water. The waking nightmare continues.

Another flashback to Summer 16 shows Gat avoiding being alone with Cady. Tensions flare when Johnny tells Gat he is bored of hearing his friend discuss the “evils of colonization.” Later, when looking for books in the attic, Cady confronts Gat about not knowing how to act around each other. It’s awkward at first, but then they kiss again. However, they are interrupted when Harris (David Morse) comes to collect his golf clubs. Harris clocks the tension between the teens and disapproves of this development.

The thinly veiled hostility from the Sinclair patriarch is also on display when Ed (Rahl Koli) approaches Harris about proposing to Carrie. Harris reluctantly admits that Ed is an improvement on the junkie Carrie eloped with (and then abandoned with two kids). Still, Carrie’s mother, Tipper (Wendy Crewson), is excited by this development and even offers a family heirloom as the engagement ring.

Gat’s secret

In the present, Cady tells Gat she replays the memory of their kiss whenever she is scared or feels sick, but worries she has warped the reality of what happened. Gat says it was also perfect for him. But if this is the case, then why didn’t he call her?

Gat tells Cady that Penny told everyone they can’t talk to her about Summer 16 as it could trigger her migraines. Gat wants her to let it go because he says, “that night f***ed me up as well.” He won’t elaborate but tells her the kiss was his favorite moment, too. The issue? Cady doesn’t remember if she can trust Gat.

Another flashback to Summer 16 on the eve of the Father’s Day celebrations offers some clarity when Johnny and Gat fight about Johnny’s privilege and lack of consideration for the Beechwood staff. Johnny suggests Gat is a hypocrite, but doesn’t explain why. On Father’s Day, Cady discovers that Gat has a girlfriend at home in Brooklyn. Johnny knew and was trying to protect her.

Cady drowns her sorrows on Father’s Day, and her grandmother Tipper reminds Cady that the Sinclairs don’t show their emotions. Meanwhile, Harris’s three daughters are vying for his approval with their choice of gifts. Whoever is deemed the best will wear their mother’s black pearl necklace (the same necklace Cady holds in her hand when she washes up on the beach).

More memories return, including Gat apologizing for not letting her know he had a girlfriend. Gat says he met Raquel in India, and she lives in Brooklyn. He finally felt seen, bringing up how much discomfort he experiences at Beechwood. Everyone is white and rich except for him, Ed and the staff. Cady says that none of that matters to her, which is the issue because she has no idea that their antics have led to staff losing their jobs.

Father’s Day tragedy

In the present, Cady asks her mother if she tried to kill herself? Penny definitively tells her this isn’t the cause of her trauma. Cady then wonders if her amnesia is because someone attacked her.

There are no answers in the flashback to Summer 16, but Johnny does tell Cady not to let Gat’s dishonesty ruin her summer. Meanwhile, Penny, Carrie and Bess gather by an outdoor fire with Tipper to reflect on the day, including who has been deemed the favorite daughter. Bess notes that none of them stand a chance against their sister Rosemary, who died when they were kids.

When they call it a night, Penny tries to wake up her mother, who has drifted off. Except Tipper isn’t asleep, she’s passed away. There is no pretending this pain away, and as the Sinclairs suffered a colossal loss before Cady’s accident. How did Tipper’s death impact the rest of the summer?

Spending every summer break on a private family island is a fairy tale come to life for the ultra-wealthy Sinclair family. Or it was until 16-year-old Cadence “Cady” Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind) nearly died. We Were Liars episode 1 opens on the mystery in progress, with Cady as a narrator who can’t remember what led to this near-death experience. “Something terrible happened last summer, and I have no memory of what or who hurt me,” Cady says.

Based on the best-selling twist-filled novel by E. Lockhart, the eight-episode psychological thriller begins with a bang: the picture-perfect Martha’s Vineyard setting hides the many secrets of the three generations vacationing on Beechwood Island. At the helm is Harris Sinclair (David Morse) and his wife Tipper (Wendy Crewson), who are the proud parents of three beautiful daughters, Penny (Caitlin FitzGerald), Carrie (Mamie Gummer) and Bess (Candice King). But even in the first episode, the cracks are visible.

The adult sisters try to outdo each other over whose life is the least chaotic, with Penny’s fresh divorce being the talk of the group. The Sinclair grandchildren seem impervious to this, but by the end of We Were Liars episode 1, “Tell Me Sweet Little Lies,” it’s clear that the teenagers on this island are aware of the Sinclair flaws.

In the present, Cady’s family won’t tell her how she ended up unconscious on the beach dressed only in her underwear. Did someone attack the oldest grandchild?

Meet “The Liars”

Affectionately known as “The Liars” by their family (on account of childhood pranks), Cady and her cousins, Johnny (Joseph Zada) and Mirren (Esther McGregor) and best friend Gat (Shubham Maheshwari) have a deep bond. To understand what happened to Cady means revisiting what she can remember about Summer 16, but also going back to Summer 8, when Gat first came to Beechwood (the number denotes the age of the Liars at the time).

Gat is the nephew of Ed (Rahul Koli), who is in a long-term relationship with Johnny’s mother, Carrie, and is an honorary member of the Sinclair family — even if he doesn’t always feel like it. Neither Gat nor Ed is present during the big family photo, and Mirren’s dad, Brody (Dylan Bruce), isn’t there either. However, Bess ensures everyone knows Brody is busy at work and her marriage is fine. The lady doth protest too much.

New feelings

Cady and Gat have always been close, but something else bubbles beneath the surface. After visiting his extended family in India, Gat tells Cady it has changed his perspective on the world. Cady is enraptured with everything Gat says, and it isn’t just because his physique has changed since the last time she saw him.

Only when Cady sees Gat writing her a letter and placing a flower inside does she realize she now has romantic feelings for Gat. Later, she asks Gat if he wants to watch the meteor shower without Johnny and Mirren? He says yes. However, when Johnny clocks this closeness, he delivers a thinly veiled warning about the dangers of crossing the line from friendship to more.

Johnny talks about hooking up with his tennis partner and how it ruined their team, doubling as a coming-out moment of sorts (Johnny says he is still figuring things out). The key takeaway is that Johnny is worried that if Cady and Gat become a couple, it will have consequences for The Liars.

Party boats and meteor showers

Elsewhere, Harris asserts his dominance over Ed by asking him to sort out the parked party boat in the bay, blocking his view. While Ed tries to figure out how to please his girlfriend’s father, he tells Gat that falling for a Sinclair woman has its drawbacks. Johnny is also obsessed with the party boat but wants to get on board to enjoy everything it offers.

After planning a late-night meteor shower picnic, Cady gets an unwelcome surprise when Johnny announces he has found them a way onto the “booze cruise.” Cady reluctantly joins her cousins and Gat, but leaves early. Carrie invites her niece Cady to spend the meteor shower with her and the younger kids known as “The Littles” (there are six grandchildren in total: Bess also has twin girls, and Carrie has another son).

While Tipper tells more fairy tales, Johnny’s brother Will (Brady Droulis) spots what he thinks is a shark in the water. It is actually Gat, who swam back to Beechwood because he wanted to be with Cady instead of partying. Cady tells Gat he made her feel stupid. He apologizes, which Cady accepts.

Kisses and more

At the dock, Bess waits for her husband’s arrival, but Salty Dan (Tim Rozon) — the harbor service person — tells her no one is coming. Bess is furious that her husband is ruining the flawless image she has cultivated. She asks Dan for a cigarette before it turns into something hot and heavy. Unfortunately for Bess, her daughter Mirren sees her mother mid-romp with Salty Dan.

In happier news, after Johnny and Mirren leave Gat and Cady alone, Gat and Cady kiss. It’s a life-changing smooch, and it was the last thing Cady remembers from Summer 16 for a long time.

“We were happy. We wanted for nothing,” Cady recalls. Soon this would change: two months later, Cady is shown on the beach clutching a black pearl necklace. It’s a mystery that will only be solved if Cady can regain her memories or if one of The Liars tells her what happened. Either way, Cady’s summer paradise became a nightmare.

Fresh off a pair of new Passport to Love movies on Hallmark Channel, Alison Sweeney is on the case again in Pie to Die For: A Hannah Swensen Mystery on Hallmark Mystery.

Netflix has released an exciting trailer for Untamed, a new Eric Bana thriller set in Yosemite National Park.

Bana stars as National Parks Service special agent Kyle Turner, who investigates a brutal death in the character-driven mystery series, which launches on Netflix on July 17.

Turner teams up with new ranger and former Los Angeles cop Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago) to investigate the mysterious death in Yosemite, "uncovering dark secrets within the park and their own pasts".

I love the line in the trailer, where Bana’s character says of Yosemite: "People come here to explore. They see maybe 10% of the park. Things happen different out here".

And we hear a mysterious voice whispering: “He's coming”.

We also see a skeleton being uncovered in the woods and we meet the all-star cast, which includes Sam Neill, who plays the chief ranger in Yosemite, Paul Souter. The brilliant Sam Neill being in the cast makes me want to see it even more.

The trailer also shows off some quite incredible scenery and suggests that the dramatic landscape will play a crucial part in the plot. It also has a seriously creepy vibe.

Teasing Sam Neill's character, Netflix says: "He's a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to Turner. He's comfortable in all facets of his job, whether it’s dealing with crime inside the park or with the bureaucracy around it.”

Also in the cast is Rosemarie DeWitt as Jill Bodwin, Turner's ex-wife and Wilson Bethel as Shane Maguire, a former army ranger, who now uses his skills as the park’s Wildlife Management Officer.

The limited series is just six parts and promises to be a must-watch.

Gripping new thriller series The Survivors has landed on Netflix today (Friday, June 6) and promises to be your next binge-watching fix. Set in the stunning landscape of the Australian island of Tasmania, the series focuses on old wounds, long-submerged secrets and simmering grief.

The six-part series is based on the bestseller by Jane Harper, and if the novel is anything to go by, this show is going to have you hooked right from the word go.

Set in the fictional seaside town of Evelyn Bay, this new crime drama follows Kieran Elliot, whose life was changed forever 15 years ago when two people close to him drowned in a terrible storm, while a young woman also went missing.

But, as Kieran returns to his childhood home with his new family in tow, the past resurfaces when a woman is found murdered after digging into the 15-year-old mystery.

With the community once again rocked by tragedy, the investigation not only threatens to uncover old mysteries, but also reveals a secret killer amongst them.

As well as a gripping plot, this new show also boasts a stellar cast, with Australian actor Charlie Vickers playing the main character, Kieran Elliot. Viewers might know Charlie as Sauron in the Prime Video TV series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He’s also been in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Palm Beach and Medici.

Meanwhile, Yerin Ha plays Kieran’s partner Mia. She is best known as Sophie Baek in Netflix period drama Bridgerton and has also starred in Dune: Prophecy, Halo, Bad Behaviour and Troppo.

"The show’s themes are grief and loss," says showrunner Tony Ayres. "What I also love about the series is that big emotions play out in this big landscape. That’s why Tasmania works so well. It’s at an emotionally operatic scale.

"The show is a Trojan horse," adds Ayres. "It’s a family melodrama disguised as a murder mystery because the things that are really at its heart are things like a son wanting his mother’s love, and the mother who can’t afford to give it because her whole world might fall apart."

All six episodes of The Survivors are now available worldwide on Netflix.

Netflix is ready to turn on the hype machine with its Netflix Tudum event streaming live on Netflix at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on Saturday, May 31. While live performances and star appearances are part of the proceedings, the big draw for Netflix Tudum is that it’s where the streamer is expected to show exclusive looks at some of their biggest upcoming TV shows and movies.

Right near the top of that list of anticipated titles is Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third Benoit Blanc movie starring Daniel Craig and pegged for a 2025 release. While Netflix has officially included Wake Up Dead Man as part of the Netflix Tudum lineup, it has not said what exactly they’re going to be sharing from the movie. If I had to bet, I would say the evening will likely bring our first look at the Wake Up Dead Man trailer.

As excited as I am to get a first-look at the third movie in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out franchise, that is not the bit of news I am most interested in hearing. Instead, I want to know what is going on with the Wake Up Dead Man release. Not just its release date, but if, when, where and for how long Wake Up Dead Man may be playing in movie theaters?

Netflix, famously, is not all that interested in the movie theater business. A majority of its movies never release in theaters, instead simply premiering on the streaming platform right away for subscribers. The lone exception is when Netflix wants to position a movie for potential Oscars.

The Academy Awards require that eligible movies have an exclusive release in movie theaters for at least seven days in at least one select markets (Los Angeles, New York and a couple other major cities qualify). For all the Netflix movies that have been nominated in its history, they typically do the bare minimum required to become Oscar eligible, then they’re pulled from theaters and made available to stream (either right away or with a slight delay).

That was the case for Glass Onion, the previous Knives Out movie. Netflix gave Glass Onion a limited release in 600 movie theaters for one week in late November 2023, pulled it, never reported box office grosses for the movie and then put it on the streaming platform around Christmas time. In terms of awards, Glass Onion earned a single Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

I fully expect that to be the minimum of what Netflix will do with Wake Up Dead Man, but I’m holding out hope that the streamer may finally realize they can have their cake and eat it too: a box office smash and then a streaming hit.

Multiple studies and analysis from the last five years have shown evidence that movies that first get a theatrical release perform better on streaming services than those that simply premiere on streamers.

To examine that claim, let’s take a look at Netflix itself. After One of Them Days, one of the best reviewed movies of 2025 and a solid box office performer, premiered on Netflix in late March, it spent three straight weeks in the top 10 of Netflix’s most watched movies. Conversely, one of the big Netflix original movies to be released so far this year, Havoc, only spent two weeks in the top 10. In fairness, Vince Vaughn’s Nonnas has matched One of Them Days’ three weeks in the top 10 and could potentially top it (that will be determined next week).

But whether or not that happens, the idea that a movie theater release does appear to give some added cache to a title when it does hit streaming appears to have merit. That’s likely why many other streamers and studios — Apple TV Plus, Prime Video, Warner Bros. — have opted to put many of their biggest movies in theaters before debuting them on streaming.

Netflix has shown signs that they are starting to budge a little, including announcing earlier this year that Greta Gerwig’s Chronicles of Narnia movie will be released in IMAX movie theaters around the world for two weeks in 2026. However, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said at the time that there was “no change at all” to Netflix’s theatrical strategy.

I hope Sarandos and Netflix have had a change in heart and realize the boom that could be releasing their movies exclusively in movie theaters for an extended run. Especially a star-studded one like Wake Up Dead Man, which in addition to Craig features Jeremy Renner, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Thomas Haden Church and Glenn Close as potential suspects. Maybe not a run like Sinners or A Minecraft Movie, but a wide release so everyone who wants to see it on the big screen can easily do so.

That’s what I’m wishing will be the big take away from the Netflix Tudum event — though I’m also just excited to see the Wake Up Dead Man trailer.

Netflix has added Dear Hongrang, a big-budget mystery melodrama from South Korea based on a popular book.

Set in the 1392-1910 Joseon Dynasty, the story follows Hongrang (Lee Jae-wook), the long-lost son of a powerful Joseon merchant, who emerges from the shadows with hidden secrets.

Netflix teases: “As he makes his unexpected return, having vanished in childhood, the narrative promises a whirlwind of emotions, weaving romance and suspense."

Cho Bo-ah plays Jae-yi, a woman torn between doubt and love for her enigmatic step-brother, Hongrang. "Their fates become inextricably linked in a tale that masterfully explores love, friendship, and destiny," tease the makers.

But is Hongrang really who he says he is? Lee Jae-wook, speaking at a press conference, said: "The viewers will have doubts about whether Hongrang is real or not." So there's a mixture of love and suspicion between the pair.

Dear Hongrang is billed as a "spellbinding experience," and, judging by the trailer (above), it certainly looks stunning.

It is based on Jing Da-hye’s novel "Tandem: Swallowing Gold". Swallowing Gold refers to an ancient capital punishment which saw the poor victim having to swallow gold.

The series is directed by Kim Hong-sun, whose other Netflix projects include Money Heist: Joint Economic Area and The Guest.

“This project is based on a novel. I read the book in one sitting. People often talk about fate, but the characters in the story have no intention of following their destined paths. The strength of the story is what led me to take on the role of director,” said Kim Hong-sun at a press conference.

He added: “I felt a sense of duty to showcase the beauty of Korea, so I tried to stay as historically accurate as possible."

Is Dear Hongrang worth a watch?

If you’re into your period dramas and love a good romance, then this could be for you. You're going to need subtitles, assuming you can’t speak Korean, so that might put off some viewers. We have to say, rarely have we seen a series that looks quite so visually stunning and that lends the series an appeal. Also, if you generally enjoy South Korean productions, then this also looks like one to add to your watchlist.

Timothy Spall's new detective comedy Death Valley will be heading to BBC One in May, the broadcaster has finally confirmed.

Death Valley, which is six parts, will begin on BBC One on Sunday, May 25 at 8.15 pm [see our TV Guide for full listings].

Set in Wales, Spall stars as John Chapel, a retired actor and star of the hit fictional detective TV show Caesar.

But when John's neighbor is murdered, Chapel forms an unlikely partnership with Detective Sergeant Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth). Also in the cast is Steffan Rhodri, best known as bus driver Dave Coaches in Gavin & Stacey, who plays DCI Clarke. And Alexandria Riley as a character called Baxter.

The BBC teases: "Every week, they get to the bottom of gripping murders, with various stunning Welsh locations providing a backdrop to their investigations.

"When John and Janie are not arguing about a case, they’re inevitably up in each other’s personal business. Despite their differences, they soon realise they are the closest thing each other has to a best friend, and unwittingly help one another move on from the past."

Timothy Spall says: "I'm really looking forward to teaming up with the brilliant Gwyneth Keyworth and the fantastically talented team of creatives and technicians on this new and unique comedy-drama.

"I’m relishing the prospect of getting stuck in as we embark on creating this truly oddball detective duo who develop their unusual combined eccentric skills to hilarious and surprisingly successful effect in beautiful rural Wales and its gorgeous towns and villages.”

After starring in the true crime drama The Sixth Commandment, Death Valley gives Spall a chance to show off his comedy side. The series sounds like it will have the vibe of shows like Shakespeare and Hathaway and Father Brown.

Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy at the BBC says: "This series has all the hallmarks of a BBC Comedy classic; it’s the perfect comedy drama caper which never forgets the funny. We feel thoroughly spoiled to have such a wonderful cast on board."

Death Valley, written and created by Paul Doolan (Mammoth, Trollied), feels like it has the potential to be one of the best BBC dramas of the year.

Death Valley will begin on BBC One on May 25 at 8.15 pm on BBC One.

Grace season 6 has started filming, with the makers revealing a first look picture of the show’s stars on set in police forensic kits.

John Simm, who will reprise his role as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, is pictured above with his co-stars Richie Campbell, who plays DI Glenn Branson, and Laura Elphinstone, who plays DS Bella Moy.

Simm said: "This is the longest I've been involved in any show! But it's such a joy to do, and to be surrounded by a team like this for large chunks of the year makes it impossible to turn down. I'm really looking forward to seeing where Roy's journey goes in this series."

Grace season 6 will feature four brand new standalone films based on the best-selling novels by Peter James. The titles for series six, based on Peter’s books, will include: "Left You Dead", "Picture You Dead", and "One Of Us Is Dead".

Grace, which is shown on ITV1 in the UK and BritBox in the US, has been a big hit. The makers revealed that also back for the sixth series are Zoë Tapper as Cleo Morey and Brad Morrison as DC Nick Nicholl. Guest stars will include Rishi Nair, Ali Khan, Gurjeet Singh, Hannah McClean, Tamla Kari and Sara Powell.

Peter James said: "I have been blessed with the most brilliant cast an author could wish for, and the most communicative and creative production team.

"I'm inundated, daily, with emails from the public both in the UK and around the world telling me how much the series is loved, and that is a true testament to the sheer quality of the episodes. While I’m still holding out hope that we’ll get another Coen Brothers movie sometime in the future, Ethan Coen is continuing with his solo directing efforts with the 2025 new movie Honey Don't!, reteaming with his Drive-Away Dolls star Margaret Qualley.

As we said in our Drive-Away Dolls review, part of what made the movie appealing was that it was reminiscent of the kind of comedies that the Coen Brothers have made throughout their careers. Though with Coen partnering on the script with his wife Tricia Cooke, there was a freshness to it as well. Honey Don't! is another dark comedy, with a mystery component added into the mix, which feels right up Ethan Coen’s alley.

When a body is found bludgeoned to death in the graveyard, with a mysterious crossword clue attached, DCI Derek Hooper (Adam Best) turns to Cora for help. As Cora throws herself into solving the graveyard murder and becomes convinced a cold case could lead to the killer, she also finds herself at loggerheads with lawyer Becky Baidwan (Yasmin Seky) and journalist Anton Grant (Alistair Brammer).

Phyllis Logan’s real-life husband Kevin McNally guest stars as her character Cora Felton’s love interest Gilbert Sullivan in the final Murder Most Puzzling investigation of the first series. In fact, amateur sleuth Cora is so smitten by charming suitor Gilbert that when a murder takes place she’s initially distracted, which causes a rift between her and her long-suffering niece Sherry (Charlotte Hope), who’s convinced Gilbert is too good to be true. 
When DCI Hooper (Adam Best) falls victim to Cora’s nemesis Mayor Firth (Richard Croxford), she realises only she can save him. But will she wake up to Gilbert’s true intentions before it’s too late?
"There’s a potential romantic liaison for Cora, but that that’s not quite what she’d have hoped,’ says Phyllis. "Cora has been married about six times already, so she’s not very good at finding a partner!"

Phyllis Logan, who plays crossword queen Cora Felton, says: "She’s a great character, just so unusual and very appealing. Cora is a bit bonkers, but that’s what I love about her. I mean, she smokes, she swears, all those things – a bit like me really, not that I smoke anymore! She also drinks Bloody Marys for breakfast and, later in the series, she even mentions she’s had six husbands. I guess maybe the older you get, the less reverent you become, and she’s exactly like that. I was very drawn to Cora, and to the series as a whole as it’s just so different.

"Cora’s relationship with DCI Hooper is hilarious because she’s a real pain in his side. She’s always interfering, but then inevitably ends up solving the case, which puts his nose out of joint. They’re always at each other’s throats, but that’s what makes it so fun! Adam Best, who plays him, is really funny anyway, and some scenes were hard to get through because he made me laugh so much.

"In the first mystery, we’ve got a ‘graveyard killer’ to find, and then a later episode sees someone get killed by being drowned in a fountain, and there’s also a case involving strippers. The opening story is more obvious in terms of the clues that Cora has to solve, but later on it becomes less about crossword-puzzle-solving and more about Cora being good at solving crimes.

"I wasn’t actually aware of the original books, and I don’t think many people will be. I don’t know how true to the books the character is. But, for me, it was all there in the script and I loved the way Cora was presented. Our director, Tom Dalton, was also very open to suggestions. If you came up with an idea he’d say, ‘Yes, that sounds great. Let’s give it a go."

The Puzzle Lady Mysteries, by Parnell Hall, on which the Murder Most Puzzling TV series is based, follows the eccentric Cora Felton, aka the puzzle lady, who has a nationally syndicated crossword puzzle column and features in adverts selling breakfast cereal to schoolchildren.

The truth is that Cora’s a charming fraud who also happens to be exceptionally good at solving murders. There are 20 books in the series, including A Clue for the Puzzle Lady, Last Puzzle and Testament and Puzzled to death. What's the plot?

Jim is back on the dating scene, while his mother-in-law, Charlie Hungerford, has a new man in her life. Things really take off for Jim when he meets Nicola, a visitor to the island, however, he then gets thrown into another big case.

The makers tease: "When the groom at a wedding reception on the island is found murdered in his hotel room, the wedding party comes under intense suspicion and scrutiny. Jim will have to decipher the victim's cryptic last words from his speech if he is ever going to bring the killer to justice. And when Jim starts to unravel old secrets, more skeletons come to light, making this his most intricate case yet."

The makers of Death in Paradise have revealed that filming has started on the new series.

Yes, the cameras are rolling on Death in Paradise season 15 right now in Guadeloupe, which doubles for the fictional island of Saint Marie, a beautiful island when you don't consider all the hideous murders that take place! On Instagram, the BBC put a photo out of the clapperboard for scene 1, take 1 of the new series. Adding: "Filming has begun this week in Guadeloupe on the brand new series of Death in Paradise.”

Don Gilet will return as DI Mervin Wilson, having made his debut in the Christmas special before continuing to lead the show in Death in Paradise season 14, which recently came to a close on BBC One.

Mervin was initially loathed by his colleagues as he belittled Saint Marie and upset everyone by being rude. However, the team began to warm to him when they heard he’d come to the island to find out the truth about his mother. Spoilers ahead if you’ve not seen the end of series 14…

So, Mervin eventually discovered his mother had been murdered! But just as he was about to go back to the UK, he found out he had a brother called Solomon Clarke.

Death in Paradise season 15 will then see Mervin most likely get to know his brother Solomon. We will also get a new commissioner after Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) decided not to continue in the post.

It continues to be an exciting time in the so-called Paraverse. After a long wait, it was recently revealed that we would be getting a second series of the Aussie spin-off Return to Paradise. That show follows ex-Home and Away star Anna Samson as DI Mackenzie Clarke, a London cop who’s forced to return home to Dolphin Cove in Australia when she’s put under investigation.

Meanwhile, Beyond Paradise season 3 is currently being shown on BBC One, featuring DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), who’s swapped Saint Marie for Devon.

In Beyond Paradise season 3 episode 5, DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) investigate when a local farming family is struck by a run of bad luck that's either the work of supernatural influences, or a more straightforward case of deliberate sabotage. Making things slightly thornier for the team is that one of the main suspects in the case is an old friend of Esther's — and Humphrey and Esther were actually with her when one of the crimes was committed.

Meanwhile, Esther makes a momentous decision about her relationship with Archie (Jamie Bamber), and it's an anxious time for Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) when foster daughter Rosie (Bella Rei Blue Stevenson) sets off for her first day at school.

It's nighttime on a farm, and spooky music plays as Stella Ellis (Steeltown Murders' Amy Morgan) and her father George (Miss Austen's Kevin R McNally) are hanging corn dolls in the barn; Stella is creeped out by the whole thing but George says that if the dolls do their job, the farm will be good for another year.

The ladder wobbles because Stella is busy texting and her father chastises her. Later, Stella is feeding the calves, but her father criticises her for getting that wrong too. There's a rumbling sound in the distance, so Stella goes to investigate it — and then George hears her screaming. He rushes to see what's happened and finds her lying next to his milk tank, which has the tap turned to open, leaving a large pool of milk on the floor. Stella comes to, and they both see a sinister figure standing in the doorway, wearing a mask made of corn — but when they look back, the figure has gone.

Meanwhile, Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) and her mum Anne (Barbara Flynn) are helping Martha's foster daughter Rosie (Bella Rei Blue Stevenson) pack for her first day at her new school tomorrow. She says that her mum would always pack her a big bar of chocolate and a note with a smiley face. Martha seems slightly sceptical of this account, but tells Rosie that she'll sort out her packed lunch in the morning, so they'll see. Rosie goes off to bed, and Anne heads off to her art class to tackle a bit of Picasso.

DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), on the other hand, is at the Ellis farm with plastic bags tied around his shoes, traipsing through the mud. As he crosses the crime scene tape, there are some signs on the ground protesting a proposed wind farm. PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) tells him that they can't get a SOCO team out until the morning, so he's just taping the area off for now. Humphrey goes into the barn to get a measure of the place, and finds a corn doll fallen on the floor. He picks it up to examine it just as DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) comes in to tell him that Stella has been checked by the paramedics and seems to be fine; she remembers being pushed from behind and thinks she hit her head as she fell.

A little later, Stella and George are explaining to Humphrey and Esther (and the rest of us) about the significance of the corn dolls: they are made from the last harvest and hung to bring luck until the next once.

According to legend, if the doll falls, the Corn Man will come to visit and bring bad luck. Stella explains that they were feeding the cattle in the barn when they heard a noise, and when she went to investigate, she found milk pouring out of the tank - this was just after 7 pm. She went to shut the valve when she felt a push from behind and fell forward. Then her dad came in and they saw a figure in the doorway — it was dark so they couldn't see properly, but the figure looked like it was wearing a mask made of corn.

Esther asks if the valve on the tank could have been faulty, but Stella says there have been no signs of any problems before now. George says he put the doll up himself and there's no reason for it to fall — he thinks someone took it down on purpose, because there are people who want to see him fail. He's got a good idea who that person might be too: Michaela Robson from the neighbouring farm, who happens to be a friend of Esther's. Stella explains that she and her father have been opposing the Robsons' application to build wind turbines in their back field. George thinks whoever did this knew what they were doing, and Stella says that the lost milk will halve their income.

As Humphrey and Esther step outside, she explains that she and Michaela know each other of old: they were at school together, and then they went to Young Farmers together. (Esther was an honorary member, who went along for the cheap beer and hunky farmboys.)

Being a pal of Stella's, she has some additional context for the farm feud: Stella and Michaela used to be a couple, but George found out and went ballistic. He tried threatening to disinherit her, and then when that didn't work, he told her that the stress of running the farm on his own would kill him, so Stella reluctantly broke things off with Michaela — and Esther thinks Michaela has never forgiven George for that. Esther adds that there's another problem in the whole mess: Michaela's mother Lotty is every bit as stubborn as George is.

Inevitably, Humphrey and Esther's next visit is to the Robson farm, where Michaela (Rebecca Lee) greets her warmly, not realising at first that Esther is there for work rather than social reasons. Nonetheless, when Esther explains the reason for her visit, Michaela welcomes them both in and calls her mum in from outside. While they're waiting for Lotty to arrive, Esther and Michaela make the most of the opportunity for a catch-up — Esther apologises for missing Michaela's recent birthday party, as she was away with her daughter Zoe at the time. Michaela is showing Esther the bracelet that her mum got her for her birthday when Lotty (The Lazarus Project's Caroline Quentin) walks in. She scrutinises Humphrey and asks Esther whether he's nice to her. (Esther confirms that he is.) Humphrey asks Lotty about the damage at the Ellis farm and the disagreement over the wind farm; Lotty scoffs that George is stuck in the past, and doesn't like anything new or different. (She says this with a very pointed look at her daughter.) It turns out that Michaela and Lotty were at Kitty Jay's most of the evening and have only just got back. Lotty adds that she isn't the sort of person who sneaks about: if she had a problem with George, she'd go round there and talk to him face to face.

On the way out, Humphrey is saying to Esther that they should check to confirm Lotty and Michaela's alibi when Michaela comes running out of the front door in a panic to tell them that she saw from the window that there's a fire at the Ellises', and they'll get there more quickly if they go directly over the fields. Lotty says it's the hay field that's burning, and as the four of them approach, Michaela points out the sinister figure in the corn mask again, this time emerging from next to the burning pile of hay. Esther and Kelby attempt to give chase, but they lose him in the dark. George and Stella arrive, and George accuses Lotty of taking his corn doll down to bring him bad luck. Lotty points out that she and Michaela were the ones who raised the alarm about the fire in the first place.

Once the fire brigade have extinguished the flames, Esther finds a jerrycan that the figure in the mask dropped when she and Kelby were chasing them. Kelby admits that part of the reason he couldn't catch the arsonist was because he got spooked by the cows; apparently he has a bit of a phobia of them because they always chase him. Esther points out to Humphrey that Michaela and Lotty were with them when the fire started, so it can't have been them — but who was it?

The next morning, Humphrey and Martha drop Rosie off at school, but Rosie's a little reluctant to go in. Martha promises Rosie that she'll make loads of friends, and Humphrey tells her that whenever he gets anxious about a new situation, he remembers the advice his Nanny Bird gave to him when she dropped him off for his first term at boarding school: stand tall, keep your back straight, your head high, and put your best foot forward. Martha suggests that if that doesn't work, try bribery, and gives Rosie a packet of sweets for emergencies. Somewhat cheered, Rosie heads into school, and Humphrey and Martha watch her, a little nervous themselves.

Esther, meanwhile, is walking through town when she gets a text from Archie, sending her another The Cure song to listen to. She bumps into Michaela, who says that the last time she saw Zoe with that look on her face was just after she snogged Max Dale at Young Farmers. Esther says that's ancient history, but Michaela thinks Max is still holding a candle for her. She asks Esther if she's seeing anyone now, and Esther claims that she isn't. Michaela says to let her know if she changes her mind about Max, and Esther promises to keep her informed if there are any developments on the Ellis case.

In the police station, Kelby has a map of the area out: he's trying to work out where the mysterious figure was running to, as that might help them to work out who he is. He's also been researching the Corn Man on the internet, and quotes: "When the Corn Man comes, lock crop and cattle away / When the Corn Man comes, bad luck is coming your way". He asks if Humphrey was frightened of the Corn Man, and Humphrey says no, he was more curious that a man allegedly made of corn felt comfortable starting a fire. Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu) arrives for work, and says that the story of the Corn Man is what they used to scare each other with as kids — she never saw him for real, though.

Esther walks in, and Margo asks her not-at-all-subtly how her night was (having found out about Esther and Archie's fling last time) — Esther says that she was working, and Margo says she can make up for it tonight. Humphrey runs through what they know of the case so far, and Margo says that George has got a habit of rubbing people up the wrong way. Humphrey says that the key factor in all of this is that both the milk and the hay were both ready to go to buyers and provide the Ellises with much-needed income, with Esther agreeing that this makes it look very much like a deliberate, targeted attack. Humphrey says that the two attacks must be linked, as the Corn Man appeared at both — and since he and Esther were with Lotty and Michaela when the fire started, that would imply they're unlikely to have been involved with the emptying of the milk tank either. Margo says she heard that George sacked his farm hand, Rhys Tomlinson, recently, so Esther suggests they go and speak to him too. Esther says it could have been another party who wanted to stop George's opposition to the wind farm, and Margo brings the team's attention to a public meeting about the turbines being held at the community hall later today.

Kelby questions Rhys (The Crow Girl's Oliver Hembrough), who expresses his sympathy for Stella: he says that she and Michaela were besotted with each other, but now they're always at each other's throats, and it's clearly George's fault for the way he treated Stella. He says he was sacked three weeks ago — he'd been trying to help George modernise the farm and increase profits, but George never listened. Kelby notes a jerrycan sitting in the back of Rhys's truck, as Rhys drops some new information: the Ellises almost sold up a few months back, but apparently the buyer said something George didn't like so George pulled the plug on the deal, and George and Stella had a blazing row about it.

Over at Ten Mile Kitchen, Anne is showing her attempt at a Picasso-style artwork to Zoe Williams (Melina Sinadinou), and Anne giggles that she got "a little more abstract" after the second glass of wine. Martha comes over and tells them that she got the corporate catering job she quoted on recently — which is good news, but more work. Zoe offers to help with the catering job, which Martha points out is next Friday when Zoe is supposed to be at college, and Zoe says she can sort that. Anne casually brings up that she's added a skydive to her bucket list, and she's already got 11 sponsors, much to Martha's horror — but Zoe is very impressed.

Humphrey and Esther head to the town meeting about the wind farm, and run into Archie Hughes (Jamie Bamber) on their way in, who's just there to drop off some wine for a function that's happening there later. He and Esther pretend to be no more than casual acquaintances, and Humphrey and Esther head into the meeting where George is holding court and encouraging people to sign a petition against the turbines.

Lotty and Michaela arrive, and Michaela and Stella immediately have a snarky exchange which ends up with Stella shoving Michaela. George accuses Lotty of being behind the sabotage on his farm again, and says she's trying to shut him up. Lotty insists she isn't trying to: she says his argument is fair, that as farmers they've all had to move with the times, but the problem is that he's chosen to make it personal. She says that he doesn't respect her because she's a woman, and implies that his campaign has nothing to do with wind turbines, but is just a manifestation of his grudge against her and her family. She adds, pointedly, that everyone in the room knows why he feels that way, and tells him that what he did to Stella and Michaela was vile. She concludes by telling George he should be ashamed of himself, and anyone who listens to him should be ashamed too.

Meanwhile, Kelby and Margo are researching the legend of the Corn Man, and Kelby mentions in passing that his mum wanted him to be a farmer, but there were two reasons why it never happened. He admits that the cow thing was a large part of it, and traces his phobia back to an advert that haunted him as a child. Margo asks him what the second reason was, and Kelby says that it was that they didn't have a farm. Fair enough, really.

Humphrey and Esther are returning to the office when Esther's phone rings — it's Archie, so she takes the call privately. She apologises for earlier, saying that she was in work mode and didn't really know how to handle the situation. Archie suggests they could make things a lot easier by telling people that they're seeing each other, but Esther is reluctant — largely because she hasn't told Zoe yet. Archie says they can start by telling her together later, and Esther lies about Humphrey needing her so she can end the call.

In the police station, Kelby confirms that he's spoken to the manager at Kitty Jay's, who confirmed Lotty and Michaela were definitely there until at least 6.30pm. Margo says that no prints were found on the milk tank, and none on the jerrycan either — other than George and Stella's, but that's to be expected. Humphrey asks her if there's any good news, and Margo says yes: she won £25 at bingo last night. Kelby updates them on his conversation with Rhys: he likes Stella, hates George, hasn't been back to the farm since he was sacked, and has a cast-iron alibi for last night because he was working behind the bar at the Crooked Billet. He also mentions the attempted sale of the farm, which apparently fell apart when George insulted the buyer, but having spoken to the agent, said buyer soon found another piece of land to buy so it's unlikely they were holding a grudge. Esther reminds Humphrey that it's school pick-up time, and he rushes out.

Humphrey arrives just in time to join Martha at the gate, where Rosie rushes out and greets them with a warm hug. Rosie's made friends with a girl called Libby, and Libby's mum asks if Rosie is their daughter, which is a question Humphrey and Martha aren't quite ready to answer. Still, the fact that Rosie had a good day is cause enough for Humphrey and Martha to take Rosie for a celebratory ice cream on the sea front, where she tells them that she has to write a story about what she does with her parents after school, and she wants to write about Humphrey and Martha, as well as Anne living on the boat with Selwyn the duck. Martha mentions that it's Rosie's birthday next week, and suggests organising a party with her new friends from school.

Esther and Zoe are at home clearing dishes away when Esther gets a text from Archie, saying "we need to talk". Zoe asks if it's bad news, and Esther lies that it's just work. Zoe, nervously, asks Esther if she'd perhaps like a beer, or some chocolate from her secret stash, so Esther instantly knows Zoe's about to tell her something she probably would rather not hear. Zoe falteringly says that Esther brought her up to be a strong, independent woman who makes her own decisions, and asks Esther to promise not to get mad at her. Esther: "Are you pregnant, had another tattoo, or pierced anything?" Zoe confirms she hasn't done any of those things, so Esther promises. In a blurt, Zoe admits that she's quit college because she loves her job at 10 Mile Kitchen and she's really good at it. Esther frowns, but takes a moment before she says anything. Keeping her emotions under control (but still clearly angered by this turn of events), Esther asks Zoe if she would go back to college if Esther was furious and told her she had to. Zoe says she would. Esther: "And you'd be miserable, right?" Zoe confirms she would. She tells Zoe that she still thinks it's a mistake, and she'd do better to get some qualifications under her belt, but she has always taught Zoe to be in control of her own life, so she can go ahead and prove her wrong. Zoe gives her a delighted hug, and Esther says she'll have the beer and chocolate now. As Zoe leaves the room, she picks up her phone and re-reads the message from Archie, deep in thought.

Meanwhile, Anne's delighted that she's hit her fundraising target for her skydive. Martha says she just wishes it was for something a bit safer, like a sponsored walk. Humphrey comes home and finds Martha going through her potential props for Rosie's party, which is to have a pirate theme. She asks if they should get an entertainer — she's worried about doing the wrong thing, because she doesn't want to do too much. What happens if Rosie's mum can't afford big parties when she goes home, or prefers to celebrate in a different way? Humphrey tells her to stop overthinking this: it's a child's birthday party, and all they can do while Rosie is with her is what they think is right. He adds that they have no way of knowing what the future holds, or if/when/how things might change, so they should just enjoy things while they last.

The next morning, Humphrey, Martha and Rosie head to the houseboat to give Anne a picture that Rosie has drawn of her doing a skydive. Anne gives a little gasp of surprise when she sees it, and starts to hyperventilate slightly. She quickly assures Rosie that she likes the picture, she's just having some last-minute jitters as it's suddenly starting to seem very real and she's beginning to wonder if she thought this through properly. Martha tells Anne she can always pull out, but Anne won't hear of such a thing because people have already donated so much money. Rosie offers to do the skydive with her to stop her feeling scared, and when Anne tells Rosie she's a bit too young, Rosie volunteers Humphrey to take her place — then she can put this in her story and she'll definitely have the best one. Humphrey, a little stunned, agrees to this idea.

At the police station, Margo wonders if she has to do a separate donation for Humphrey if she's already given money to Anne. Esther says she's chipped in a bit extra, and it will be worth every penny. The phone rings, and Margo informs them that someone has let all the Ellises' cattle escape onto the A386.

Humphrey and Esther head to the farm, where Stella says that they got all the cows back, but it isn't the point: some of them have been injured, and now they have vet bills to worry about on top of everything else — and they found an ear of corn tucked behind the bolt of the gate. George declares that he's done, because he can't take another year of this. Stella tries to talk him round, but he tells her she's right: they should have sold up when they had the chance. After George walks off in despair, Humphrey asks Stella about the offer to buy the farm. Stella says she didn't think her dad was ever really serious about selling, that he'd never leave the farm unless he truly had no other choice. Esther gets a call from Margo, who's been checking where the Robsons were when this happened: apparently they were visiting family in Torquay, so they can't have done it. Kelby suddenly appears in the cattle pen, trying his level best to remain calm — but he's clearly very glad when he manages to get out of the gate and is no longer trapped and surrounded by cows. He tells Humphrey and Esther that he's got something to show them.

He walks the two of them to an old gatekeeper's cottage on the boundary of the Ellis and Robson farms — technically on the Robson side. It's supposed to be empty, but there's evidence inside that a person, or people, have been there recently. There's a picture on a shelf of Michaela and Stella, so Esther deduces that it must be where they used to meet. Kelby tells them that he found something else too, and leads them into another room, where the Corn Man outfit is hanging from a hook in the ceiling.

Back at the police station, Margo takes a call from the crime scene team, who confirmed that the only prints found in the cottage were Michaela's, Stella's, and Kelby's. (Kelby apologises, he put his gloves on too late.) Esther points out that Michaela's and Stella's prints being there are to be expected, if that was indeed their old meeting place. Kelby adds that he spoke to the manager and some regulars at the Crooked Billet, and has confirmed that Rhys was working there until 11pm on the night of the milk loss and the fire. Esther reiterates that the Robsons have an alibi for all three incidents on the Ellis farm, so it can't have been them either.

Humphrey, however, has just had a stroke of inspiration: when they first went to see Michaela, she said that Esther had missed her birthday party. He asks Esther when that was, and Esther says it was last month — the 18th, she thinks. He remembers that Michaela showed Esther a bracelet, which she claimed was a recent birthday present from her mum — but she's wearing it in the picture of her and Stella which, if everything they've been told about their relationship is true, would have been taken over a year ago. Therefore: the picture was taken more recently, and Humphrey has finally figured out what's been catching them out: they've been thinking too much about motive, but not enough about opportunity.

So here's what really happened: Stella and Michaela are still together, and faked their breakup just to appease George. All of the public fights they've been having were just to keep up appearances, and they've been working together to exploit George's superstitions and force him to sell the farm. Since George used emotional blackmail to make Stella believe that running the farm alone would kill him, she didn't want to leave him there by himself — she initially convinced him to sell, but then he changed his mind and she was back to square one. The only way for Stella and Michaela to be together was to force George to sell the farm — that way Stella and Michaela could take Stella's share of the money and start a new life somewhere, and Stella could rest easily knowing that George had enough money for a comfortable retirement from his share.

It was Stella who opened the valve of the milk tank, and pretended she'd been pushed by an unseen attacker. Michaela left Kitty Jay's at 6:30, giving her just enough time to get to the farm and play the role of the Corn Man. Aware that George would point the finger at the Robsons, Stella set the hay on fire when she knew Humphrey and Esther were speaking to Lotty and Michaela, giving them the perfect alibi. She played the Corn Man when Humphrey, Esther and the Robsons came back to investigate the fire, then ran back to the cottage to get changed, and returned to the farm to resume the role of the victim. Again, when she knew Michaela and Lotty were in Torquay, Stella seized the moment and let the cows out onto the road, knowing they couldn't be realistically accused of doing that either. Her use of the Corn Man convinced George he was in for a year of bad luck, so he felt that he had no choice but to sell up.

Esther's appalled that her friend Michaela would lie to her face, and that Stella would do this to her own dad, but Humphrey points out that love can make people do things that they would never normally do. The team head to the respective farms to arrest Stella and Michaela. As she's putting Michaela into the back of a police car, Esther says she thought they were friends. Michaela says they are, but she and Stella had no choice.

Esther says she doesn't believe that, and Michaela (not unfairly) says that Esther doesn't know what she and Stella have gone through, and the only alternative involved Stella staying at the farm for the rest of George's life, putting up with all of his venom. She says that it was the only way they could see of ever being properly together, and they didn't need Esther's — or anyone else's — approval for that. Later, at the station, Humphrey muses on what Michaela said and wonders if she was right. Esther still disagrees, however: she believes that you're responsible for your own choices, and if you don't like where your life is, it's your own fault.

On that note: Esther goes to see Archie at the winery. He's excited to see her, but as he walks over to her, he can tell from her general demeanour that something is wrong. Esther, struggling not to cry, tells him she doesn't want to be with him any more. He asks if they can talk about it, and she shakes her head and walks away. Oh, Esther.

Over at the airfield, Humphrey and Anne are all kitted up and ready for their skydive. He checks if she still wants to go through with it; Anne tells him she's never run away from anything in her life, and doesn't intend to start now. Martha and Rosie arrive to wish them luck, and Martha thanks Humphrey for looking after her mum — but reminds him to be careful, because when he went paragliding (waaaay back in Season 1 Episode 1), he ejected himself and ended up in a tree. Humphrey assures her that Anne will definitely give him one of her Looks if he is doing anything he is not supposed to be. Anne and Humphrey head over to the plane, where the instructor (Ankur Sengupta) is waiting. As they're climbing into the plane, Anne laughs and says she hopes this won't be like her ski trip in 1983, when she came back with both her legs in plaster. The instructor is alarmed to hear this, because Anne didn't mention it on her form when she signed up. Anne says that the form only asked for current medical conditions, and this was 40 years ago.

Anne trudges back to Martha and Rosie, where she dejectedly tells them that she isn't allowed to do the skydive: the fact that she's already broken her legs, even though it was 40 years ago, disqualifies her from the insurance. Anne feels bad about letting everyone down, and Martha suddenly realises Humphrey isn't with her. They see him waving from the plane as it takes off.

Some time later, Anne and Martha are getting anxious, because Humphrey is over half an hour late getting back. Martha's phone rings: it's Humphrey. Sounding slightly panicked, he informs her that he leaned back too far and headbutted his instructor. He says the instructor is coming around now, but Martha might need to come and fetch him — and bring a ladder, because he's currently dangling from the cables way above the Tamar Bridge. (And if you stick around after the credits, he drops his phone too. Oh, Humphrey.)

Preparations for the annual gala continue in Grosse Pointe Garden Society. What to Watch has an exclusive clip of the April 25 episode in which Catherine (Aja Naomi King) presides over a tasting menu.

It has been busy for the gardeners as life continues to throw challenges and roadblocks in their way.

Here's the episode description of "Seasons," the April 25 episode of Grosse Pointe Garden Society: "Alice welcomes a new addition to the family to snap Doug out of his funk. Catherine is torn as she must help sell her childhood home. Birdie receives surprising news that changes everything. Brett teams up with Melissa to care for their sick kids."

As you can see, Catherine has a lot to say about the tasting menu from one of the prospective caterers for the gala. The chef might have a Michelin star, but Catherine isn't impressed by the food despite Alice (AnnaSophia Robb) and Brett's (Ben Rappaport) attempts to put a positive spin on the offerings.

Birdie (Melissa Fumero) is feeling utterly nauseous by the massive spread and it doesn't help when Catherine says the next tasting menu, presented by a James Beard Award winner, will arrive in a few days. Unfortunately, Alice has a new puppy at home and Brett's hosting a house full of sick kids. They know Catherine is feeling the pressure of selling her childhood home, even though she says it's not a big deal and she looks forward to the commission.

After explaining that her puppy has to go outside to potty every two hours, Birdie suggests a night nurse while Catherine jokes that maybe she should have had a baby. No, Alice says quickly, "that would have been way worse."

Needless to say, there's a lot of life happening amongst the Grosse Pointe Garden Society gardeners, and that's not even counting all of the other drama in their lives. We can't wait to tune in to see what happens next!

The Glass Dome episode 6 is the final episode in the series. It sees Ecki finally revealed, but is Tomas really the kidnapper? Here's everything that happened in the final episode of the Netflix drama...

"Valter, where are you? We need to talk about Tomas and your mother," says Lejla in a message to Valter.

Lejla goes to Tomas's. Tomas seems ok, considering the amount he drank. He says Valter isn’t there. He makes Lejla a cup of tea. She asks: "Why did you stay at Daniela’s campsite, spring 2001?" He says for his mum’s funeral, he wasn’t welcome in the house. He says it was because of his dad. He says his mum was cowardly. She turned a blind eye to his father’s violence.

Bjorn calls Tomas, worried about Lejla, and Tomas says don’t worry, she’s here. While Tomas is distracted, Lejla has a poke around and finds Louise's phone. Lejla makes her escape with the phone. She drives to Valter’s. He’s not there. She leaves a message with Said to call her as she has Louise’s mobile. He warns Said not to say anything to Tomas or the police. She's now convinced Tomas is behind everything.

Lejla is captured again and is back in the glass dome!

Meanwhile, Said continues his search. Tomas arrives at Valter’s and Lejla is scared. Tomas comes in the house. He says they need to talk. She's terrified. He looks at her laptop. She makes her escape again. Her phone goes off, luckily, he doesn’t seem to hear. She manages to get away from the house.

She tries to phone the police for help but suddenly a gloved hand grabs her, and her attacker sticks a needle in her and drags her to the snowy ground. Her attacker drags her away as the police operator continues to talk on her mobile. Said finally checks his phone and listens to her message.

Meanwhile, Valter is fishing.

Lejla wakes up and screams "No" as she finds herself trapped in a glass dome again. She turns, and Alicia is also in the box!

Tomas is in a car. His phone calls, and he's told Said wants to speak to him.

Back in the box, Alicia tragically given the fact that her mother has been murdered, says she wants to be reunited with her parents, something Lejla knows is impossible. Lejla promises to get them out.

Valter packs up his fishing stuff. Lejla suddenly remembers she has Alicia’s mum's phone. Alicia unlocks the phone, which has low battery, not surprisingly.

She phones Valter. She shouts it's Tomas and she's been taken with Alicia, but Valter just appears to hear garbled noise and then the phone dies.

Tomas is at the station. He’s told what he already knows, that Lejla has Louise's phone. His colleague says Said was warned not to talk to Tomas, and she now knows Tomas was having an affair with Louise. Tomas leaves the station.

Lejla tells Alicia that Valter should be able to find them by locating the phone. The light in the box comes on, and there’s a shadowy figure. "I understand that you are destroyed," says Lejla. "And coming back here must have brought back so much trauma from when you were small. From your father. From your mother. I'm not her, though, ‘cause we’re friends. Aren’t we? You know we are." She says she can help and help the pain go away. She asks for Alicia to be released.

The Glass Dome ending explained: Valter is Ecki!

The attacker removes their mask and it’s Valter! Lejla looks stunned.

Tomas is driving in his car.

Valter asks for the phone, and Alicia gives it to Valter. He asks who Lejla called, and Alicia says just him. Valter tells Lejla to sit in the corner. Valter takes Alicia out of the box and locks Lejla back in.

Lejla means night Valter tells Alicia, and he then creepily starts brushing her hair. Alicia asks to see her mum, Valter says she can, but they have to play a game first. Valter says he wants a tuft of her hair. He then says he makes tiny fishing flies from hair to catch trout. He says it works best with long and pretty hair. Valter snips her hair.

Lejla remembers Valter snipping her hair in the same way when he took her the first time. His hands go around her neck and young Lejla says let’s the finish the book first. He goes into the box and she runs. He screams, but she manages to get outside and flee.

Valter tells Alicia to stay where she is and not to even look at Lejla because she can't be trusted. Valter leaves.

Tomas arrives and asks to speak to Lejla, but Valter says he can’t because she’s not well. He says he wants to talk to her about Louise’s phone. Valter says he will handle it as her father. Tomas grabs a coffee as Valter goes up to Lejla’s room.

Lejla tells Alicia that Valter is an expert lier. She says Alicia must trust her so they can get home. Lejla gives Alicia a code to try on the lock on the box.

Tomas looks at the family photo where Lejla cut out his mother. He pockets the photo quickly as Valter comes back downstairs. Valter gives him Louise’s phone and tells him to throw it away. Tomas says he intends to hand it over to the police.

Valter says he intends to put Lejla on a flight back to America. Tomas asks him to get her to give him a call. Tomas leaves.

Alicia can’t remove the lock to the box. Lejla tells her to hide, and when Valter comes back in, she should run for it and lock the door to the building.

Alicia fails to hide. Valter lays down a plastic sheet on the floor and chillingly tells Alicia she will be with her mummy very soon. He says she's served her purpose.

We go back to the night of the fire. Lejla's mother goes to have a cigarette. We see Valter watching her. In the present, he comments that he saw that fire in her straight away. "You were different from all of the rest," he says. "You fascinated me".

We see young Lejla walking into her home and being grabbed by Valter. "Then you became mine for real." He says he took really good care of her as her dad! She starts crying. He says he can’t let her go.

Tomas looks at the photo and frantically drives back to the house. He then discovers Bjorn dead, and the section of the photo showing his mother. He takes Valter’s gun and phones for backup. He goes searching in the outbuildings and finds Valter’s fishing box with hair inside!

Lejla begs Valter to leave Alicia alone. He says she sounds just like her mother and Louise. He starts strangling Alicia. Lejla starts headbutting the box in an attempt to distract Valter. It works, and he releases Alicia. Valter shouts stop that and Tomas hears. He finds a trap door and heads down.

Tomas bursts in! Valter grabs a pair of scissors and calmly tells Tomas where to shoot him in the head. The police arrive at the house, and they hear two gunshots.

Tomas carries Alicia out, and a bloodied Lejla also emerges. Alicia is reunited with Said. Lejla sinks to her knees in the snow.

Now recovered, Alicia goes to a prison to see Valter, who’s in a wheelchair, suggesting Tomas shot him in the legs. She asks Valter where the other girls are. They are separated by glass. He says it doesn't matter which one of them is behind the glass because he will always be in her mind. He starts talking about their river, which seems to be a hint of where the bodies might be.

Divers search the river and find bodies. Tomas, who amazingly still has a job given the fact that he hid crucial evidence in a murder case, is at the river, as is Lejla. The series ends with a beautiful shot of the countryside.

The Thursday Murder Club movie has finally got a release date and a string of first look pictures, including ex James Bond star Pierce Brosnan looking very dashing as Ron!

The long-awaited movie adaptation of Richard Osman's beloved book will arrive on Netflix on Thursday, August 28, 2025. And, as you can see in the main picture, Ron looks very smooth and nothing at all like how I imagined him from reading the hit novel! I'd have thought of Ron as a balding man bulging out of a West Ham football shirt, but here he is sporting flowing grey locks and a trendy jacket! Helen Mirren looks more like I imagined Elizabeth, to be fair.

The plot follows irrepressible retirees Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie), who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun.

As Netflix teases: "When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands. Directed by Chris Columbus, the film is the latest to be produced through the Netflix and Amblin Entertainment partnership."

Richard Osman tweeted out the news about the release date with a simple "Whoooop".

Other key cast include Richard E. Grant (Withnail & I, Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Tom Ellis (Lucifer, Players), Geoff Bell (Kingsman: The Secret Service and Top Boy), Paul Freeman (Tokyo Trial, Raiders of the Lost Ark), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso, F1) and Ingrid Oliver (Last Christmas, Doctor Who). Chris Columbus (Harry Potter, Home Alone) is the director.

The Thursday Murder Club is one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of the year, and Netflix will be hoping it will be just as successful as the books. If it is, we can expect adaptations of the other books. The fifth novel in the series, called "The Impossible Fortune", is due out in September this year.

The Glass Dome episode 5 sees Lejla escape from Daniel Frick, but she starts to wonder if Ecki could be much closer to home. Here's everything that happened in episode 5 of the Netflix series...

Lejla, who's been drugged, wakes up groggy but Martin, who we now know is in fact Daniel Frick, tells her not to wake up yet. Frick leaves and Lejla sticks her fingers down her throat and manages to be sick. She looks out of the window and sees Frick with a torch.

The room spins, and she plunges down the stairs. Meanwhile Frick, who seems to have the whole serial killer kit, places a bin bag in his car boot and tapes it down.
Lejla manages to get up and looks out of the door and sees Frick with his torch. Frick returns and is stunned to see Lejla isn’t in her bed anymore.

He heads outside and shouts her name. Frick frantically searches the woods. She staggers through the forest and collapses. She falls down a hill and stumbles onto the road. A car pulls up and thankully it's Valter and not Frick.

Alicia is still missing

The next day, Said runs towards the police station. Tomas has a little girl, but it’s Elma and not Said’s daughter Alicia. He looks crushed. Where is Alicia?

"I promise you we will find Alicia, too," says Tomas. Elma explains that the man went off to see the other girl. Tomas is told that Lejla is at hospital after being drugged by Frick. Tomas heads to the hospital, where Valta is sitting bedside. She is out cold but stable.

Jim and his cronies are hanging outside the police station, being threatening. Tomas is told they've found Frick’s cabin. There's no trace of Frick. There are drawings there including of Valter’s house.

The doctors tell Lejla the drugs she was given by Frick. Lejla insists she wants to go home against the doctor's advice. At home, Valter and Tomas talk about Frick’s release. Valter asks: "How the hell can a maniac like that get his parole approved?" Tomas replies: "The psychiatric hospital said he was rehabilitated." Tomas says they think Frick has another site where he's holding Alicia.

Tomas says the flat they stormed was full of items related to Lejla, including pictures and newspaper cuttings. He even had her old schoolbooks. She looks under her bed and says Frick’s taken her box. She says she’s going to stay in the US. Can't really blame her! She tells Valter she can’t live in Sweden.

In the woods, the search for Alicia continues. Lejla has a nightmare where she’s stuck in the glass dome with hands pressing against the side. She again dreams of her mother. They’re beside a bonfire. She wakes to her phone going off. It’s Said. He asks if Frick said anything about Alicia. She mumbles, "He doesn’t have Alicia. She's with Ecki. I saw him. By the fire.” Lejla isn’t making much sense and hangs up.

Said goes to see Tomas who says despite what Lejla says he has no dobut if they find Frick they will find Alicia. Said isn’t happy and points out that Tomas still has no idea who Louise was having an affair with. He wants Tomas to speak to Lejla.

Jim is drunk and covered in blood. He says he's been hunting. His dad furiously gives him a whack, sends him to bed, and then burns Jim’s coat to get rid of the evidence.

Lejla goes to see Kristina and Said. Said is frustrated when she says she has no memory of their conversation about Ecki. Said, storms out. Give the girl a break, she was attacked and drugged, no wonder she’s not making much sense!

Lejla goes outside and tells Said she wishes she could help. They hug, and then she spots something in a green bag. It’s Frick’s bloodied corpse. Tomas is furious that the police failed to find Frick but the killer did. He wonders how they're now going to find Alicia. His colleague tells him to calm down.

Tomas drives off and confronts Jim. Tomas seems out of control. Jim's dad says that unless Tomas has anything on Jim, he should leave.

Tomas finds a bloodied pair of boots in Jim’s locker. He gives the boot to his colleague and asks for them to be analysed.

Lejla tells Valter she’s heading home to America on Thursday. She says she’s tried her best to solve the case, but she can’t. Valter opens a suspicious letter that's been posted through the door. Inside is Lejla’s hair from when she was a child!

Tomas arrives and Lejla says she’s sure it wasn’t Frick who took Alicia. Valter says they must go back through all the evidence.

At the station, Lejla goes back to Inas, a girl she thinks Ecki might have killed. She's convinced there’s something more. Lejla says Frick was slaughted like an animal. She thinks it shows pure hatred. Did Ecki kill Frick? Lejla believes so.

Bjorn gives Lejla a lift back home. He checks the house. Back at the station, Valter tells the team he’s come out of retirement to help with the case. Valter outlines what happened. Lejla was found in Granas in November 2002, nine months earlier she was reported missing by her mother, who, six months later, was found dead. The autopsy said she had taken an overdose of sedatives.

Meanwhile, Lejla sits at home listening to an interview with her mother. Her mother mentions meeting a man. It was on Walpurgis Night. They rented a small cabin. Lejla wanted to see Mora, and they drove there as it was quite close. Lejla rushes out of the house.

Back at the station, they’re talking about how Ecki appears to be a serial offender. Jim is ruled out of Frick’s murder. Tomas, upset that another of his theories hasn't worked out, heads out of the station. He goes for a drink, looking depressed. He starts downing shots.

Lejla heads to a cabin. The woman who rents out the cabins is there and goes through her record books for 2001. She says the records show Lejla stayed for three nights in cabin 12. Tomas Ness is written in the record books!

At the station, the team finds out that the girl from the container, Inas, has a potential link to the area. The colleague says how could Tomas have missed all of that?

Why is Tomas so devastated? What secrets is he holding?

Tomas is still at the bar. Said is there, and Tomas offers to buy him a beer. He says he’s sorry for promising he would return Alicia. Tomas drunkenly says everything will be better now that Valter has taken over the case. Tomas confesses he was the mystery man seeing Louise! Tomas taunts Said, and Said punches him.

Said phones Lejla and asks if she knew it was Tomas with Louise. Lejla admits she did know. She says sorry, and he hangs up.

Valter goes into the bar and drags Tomas out. Valter takes Tomas home, and Bjorn agrees to stay the night with Lejla. Tomas is distraught. Tomas says something alarming. He says to Valter do you remember the fox cubs we found in the woods? He says Valter put them in a plastic bag, but they didn’t die, so you just squeezed them. Valter retorts that Tomas killed the fox cubs and not him. Who's telling the truth?

Lejla looks through old photos. She stares at a photo of Tomas and Valter as young children with their father and mother, who has long, dark hair! She cuts the woman out of the photo and puts her face on her crime board.

The popularity of dramas like Succession and Yellowstone suggests we can’t get enough of watching wealthy, dysfunctional families. This week, one such clan is torn apart when a deceased self-made millionaire exacts revenge from beyond the grave by excluding his third wife and two grown-up sons from his will in U&Alibi’s new mystery thriller, I, Jack Wright.

Written by Chris Lang (Unforgotten), the six-parter begins with the apparent suicide of Jack Wright (Waking the Dead’s Trevor Eve). Married to third wife Sally (Citadel’s Nikki Amuka-Bird), Jack had two sons from his first marriage, eldest son Gray (Grace’s John Simm) and his brother John (Black Mirror’s Daniel Rigby).

As the Wright family gathers at the reading of Jack’s will, however, Sally, Gray and John are stunned to learn they’ve inherited… almost nothing! Later, DCI Hector Morgan (Game of Thrones’ Harry Lloyd) unearths evidence to suggest Jack didn’t take his own life, he was murdered!

John and Nikki tell us more…

How would you describe your characters in I, Jack Wright?

Nikki: "Originally from Tottenham, North London, Sally started life in foster homes but went to Cambridge University and carved out this extraordinary legal career for herself. She’s very glamorous, but she’s worked hard for everything she’s achieved, so she’s no ‘gold digger’! But, as the series opens, we find Sally in prison. It’s a real ‘riches to rags’ story."

John: "Gray is a complicated guy and a real troubled soul. He’s a bit of a 1990s throwback with a Liam Gallagher-type swagger, who runs an indie record label, but streaming has changed the game, so he's kind of a relic in the modern-day music business. It’s a world I can relate to [John starred in films Human Traffic and 24 Hour Party People]. Gray’s on a downward spiral; he drinks, takes drugs and owes money to some very dangerous people…"

A pivotal moment in the drama is when the entire Wright family gather at Jack’s will reading. How do Sally and Gray react to news they’ll hardly receive any of his inheritance?

Nikki: "The will reading divides everybody at the table into those who are surprised to receive this huge windfall… and those who've lost everything! Sally’s already enduring the grief of losing her husband and now there’s this huge feeling of betrayal and injustice that everything has been stripped away from her. But Sally’s NOT going down without a fight!"

John: "Gray’s absolutely gutted! Aside from being Jack’s eldest son, Gray feels like he’s owed something - he had a terrible upbringing, his dad totally neglected him and they became estranged. And because Gray had an awful childhood, in turn, so did his own daughter Emily (Cider With Rosie’s Ruby Ashbourne Serkis), Jack’s granddaughter. Gray was a terrible father when she was little; he was in a band, living the ‘rock and roll’ lifestyle, so he missed out on a lot."

In a shock twist, it’s Emily who inherits the bulk of Jack’s estate. What impact does this have on the Wright family, in particular on Gray and Emily’s father-daughter relationship?

John: "Gray’s always wanted to reconnect with Emily, who now lives in the US, to make up for being a bad father - but not like this! Our drama explores how fractious families can be; all the secrets and lies and things brushed under the carpet. I was intrigued by the mystery surrounding all these characters and in piecing together this jigsaw of what's gone on."

Nikki: "Viewers have always been fascinated with affluent, dysfunctional families on TV and how people who have everything may not be the happiest. Jack’s will causes chaos within the entire family, who end up turning against each other - but that’s how money corrupts."

With so many story arcs, how will viewers keep up with what’s going on?

Nikki: "Our writer Chris has come up with this incredible narrating device where, alongside the main drama, each member of the Wright family is filming their part of a true crime-style documentary in the present day. So, for example, Sally is filming her ‘interview’ from prison, then we see flashbacks to events leading up to her being incarcerated. Sally’s story is wild!"

DCI Hector Morgan (Game of Thrones’ Harry Lloyd), the detective probing Jack’s suicide, unearths evidence to suggest the patriarch was murdered. Did Gray or Sally do the deed?

Nikki: "All the characters are suspects, essentially, and are having to dig into their pasts to understand Jack’s will. The last thing Sally wants to hear is that her husband was murdered and that she could be incriminated, so she’s on her own hunt as well to uncover the truth."

John: "Gray might be a bit of an idiot but I don’t think he’s capable of murder. There’s lots going on in the psychological soup of Gray’s head and, as dark family secrets are revealed, you come to realise why he is the way he is. I had fun as Gray - after playing a good man like ITV detective Grace for five series, it was nice to go back to portraying the 1990s anti-heroes I used to specialise in!"

I, Jack Wright starts Wednesday, April 24 at 9 pm on U&Alibi, with all six episodes available as a box set.

The Glass Dome episode 4 on Netflix sees Lejla in danger and another child going missing. Here's everything that happens in episode 4...

Valter adds security to the windows after the kidnapper entered Lejla's room. A forensics team is at the house. Lejla gets a load of files about her case. She types into a criminal profile, Ecki, the name she gave her abductor.

The little girl is shown the picture of the girl in the dome and says she didn’t draw that one. Who drew it? "Ecki," she replies. She reveals that Ecki’s favorite color is red. She adds she knows that because he painted his arm that color, and he had "some flower" on his arm.

Tomas watches on. Could this be a key piece of information? Lejla asks Valter why he thought Ecki took the three girls he has pinned up on the wall, and he says because they appeared the right age and appearance. They also disappeared in the same way, near their homes, leaving zero forensic evidence. "It was like you vanished into thin air," says Valter.

Lejla says they should play around with the idea that Ecki has got Alicia. But he replies: “So, you think that for 20-odd years he took a break?” Lejla says that's possible. She says this time it's like he wants to show off. That something in his life has knocked him off balance, and that’s why he’s reoffending. She explains how he had to feel in charge.

Lejla drives back into the village. She meets Tomas in a cafe. She hands over the criminal profile she's made on Ecki. He's a bit dismissive as he reads it. She then asks if he’s gone through Valter’s material, and he snorts and says it must be 10 years since anyone looked at that. Tomas doesn't seem especially good at his job! She says he should really look, and Alicia matches the profile. She has long brown hair just like Lejla. "I'm sure the hair’s important," she says. She explains that cutting her hair off was like a ritual for Ecki and that it’s all about power.

Tomas reveals that the little girl gave them a description. "A red flower painted on his arm," says Tomas.

At the station, they show the little girl, Isla, some tattoos, but she doesn't recognise any of them. Lejla goes to talk to Isla. She shows one of her drawings, which she is unhappy with. Lejla says with practice, you get better and better, and this trips something in her mind. It seems serial killers like to practice, too, and Lejla, in a call with a colleague in America, remarks that they can be ashamed of their initial efforts.

She tells Valter she thinks he's missed a victim. She says if there's a mistake Ecki made, they have to find it. She says they need to go back further in Sweden's crime past.

Tomas speaks to Said and says they’ve found a link between the attack on the mine and Alicia’s disappearance. He says they also have a description. Said is frustrated about the lack of progress and again mentions Louise's lover, which makes Tomas look awkward! He replies that her phone is missing, which isn’t helping. Said stares at a picture of Louise.

Tomas's colleague says she wants to dig further into who Louise was having an affair with. Yikes! She says it’s weird he hasn’t come forward, and it makes you think he’s hiding something. Tomas looks worried.

Creepy Martin is back on the scene

Later, Lejla is on her computer and thinks she hears something. She goes to investigate. The light won’t work, and at the table, she "sees" her mother. Turns out she's been dreaming. She looks through the files and finds a photo of a murdered girl. She asks Valter to take a look. Another girl with long, dark hair who disappeared. Her name is Inas.

The next day, Lejla calls Tomas and says she has evidence of what could be Ecki's first victim. He killed the girl, she explains, but he didn’t enjoy it. It became too real for him, and so he covered her face with a plastic bag. "That’s why he cut my hair," she adds.

"That’s why he had us trapped like insects in a glass box. He dehumanized us so he could handle killing us." Tomas says he will check it out. She seems to be doing more work than Tomas.

At the shops, Jim calls out "girl in the box” at Lejla and starts confronting her over Adde, and calls her a "snitch". Martin steps in and asks if everything is ok. Jim says of course it is and eventually leaves. Martin says he's getting coffee for everyone on the search.

Martin asks Lejla if she’d like a drink later, and she accepts the offer. We're not sure why, as he seems very creepy.

She takes the shopping to Aino’s house and tells her what happened with Jim. Suddenly, there’s a crash, and Isla says she opened the window so Ecki could draw with her. Lejla looks out, but there’s no sign of him.

Not clear if he was there or not. Lejla talks to Tomas, and they clash. She says Ecki won’t take anyone else now that he has Alicia. She asks if he looked into Inas' vanishing, and he replies that she came to Sweden as a refugee and six months later vanished from a refugee centre. He says nothing has come up and drives off in a mood.

Another child is taken

Lejla's by the lake when she sees police cars whizzing by. Turns out another girl has gone missing. Her name is Elma. Tomas gives Lejla a look as if to say, so much for your theory, he wouldn’t take another girl.

Valter is at the police station. He listens to the police phone messages, and one of them is a distorted voice saying: "She's with Ecki. Elma say something…” Elma, the missing child, pleads for help. And then the call ends. There's a noise in the background, which sounds like water. They conclude it's a dam, and Valter tells them to check out all the water treatment plants within a radius of 30 miles.

At the bar, Lejla and Martin talk about the missing girls. The barmaid flirts with Martin. Lejla points it out, but Martin dismisses it and says even if she were, she’d be disappointed because he’s a "weirdo" who looks for missing people, and he’s almost 40 and still studying.

Martin explains he looks for missing people because his sister disappeared when he was a boy. He usually walked her home from school, but one day he went skateboarding, and that was the day she vanished. So he’s motivated by guilt.

The police have spotted a car by a dam at the same time as the phone call from Ecki. The car is very rare, and they connect it to an address and race there to see if they can find the missing girls. Martin offers to take Lejla to see the beautiful cottage he’s renting, which is by the river. Could Martin be involved?

Should Lejla be going off with Martin to his big, spooky cottage? She comments that it’s beautiful. He certainly has a roaring fire going. He pours her a shot. He oddly asks her what she did while she was imprisoned to pass the time. She says Ecki would give her tasks, like reading from a book. And he’d give her rewards. Martin suggests that’s what he’s doing now, giving her little rewards.

Martin pours her another shot. He wonders if it might be a copycat, rather than the original Ecki. She takes a call from Valter and tells him she’s at Martin’s. Valter says they have a suspect’s address.

The police storm the address of the suspect. The suspect was sentenced to psychiatric care after a failed kidnapping attempt on an 11-year-old girl. He was let out but hasn’t reported in as he was meant to. Back at the station, Valter looks at a photo of the suspect, Daniel Frick, who is in fact Martin!.

Martin appears to be Ecki and drugs Lejla!

Lejla gets up but then feels odd and asks for a glass of water. Martin/Frick asks her about the suspect. She's confused. His sleeve rides up and hang on, is that a red flower on his arm?!

Lejla pulls up his sleeve further and it turns out the be a birth mark. “It looks like a flower,” comments Lejla. Her phone goes and it’s Valter, but Martin slowly pulls the phone away. She gets up but then collapses by a drawing pad with a picture like one Ecki would draw. It appears Martin/Frick is Ecki!

Return to Paradise season 2, the latest Death in Paradise spin-off, is filming now in Australia.

The crime drama will again star former Home and Away actress Anna Samson as DI Mackenzie Clarke, a London cop who was forced to return to her hometown of Dolphin Cove in the first series.

Mackenzie had trouble getting on with her team, who included Detective Senior Constable Colin Cartwright (Lloyd Griffith), who's also back for the second run.

Mack's cases in season 2 will take her "from the literary world to state-of-the-art shark labs, dating apps and rock concerts".

Tim Key, Executive Producer, Red Planet Pictures, who makes the show, says: "We were delighted that the world took Mack and the rest of the Australian team to their hearts and it’s a pleasure to be back on the beat with the wonderful cast and crew Down Under.

"We can promise another series full of ingenious murders, romantic complications and glorious Australian locations, all infused with the unique warmth and humor of the Paradise shows."

With the second series filming now, we'd expect Return to Paradise season 2 to air in the winter of 2025 on BBC One.

It will be shown on ABC in Australia and will head to BritBox in the US.

Spoilers ahead if you've not seen the end of Return to Paradise season 1! So, the big twist was that Mackenzie was about to leave Dolphin Cove for London when she heard her ex, Glenn, confess to their dog that he was still in love with her. Mackenzie, that is, not the dog!

Mackenzie looked dumbfounded, and we know that she still has feelings for Glenn. So that plot is sure to develop in series 2.

The makers tease; "Series two will reunite us with Detective Sergeant Mackenzie ‘Mack’ Clarke (Anna Samson), who's longing to get back to the UK and the life she’s always craved. But for now, she's stuck in Dolphin Cove, dodging her ex-fiancée Glenn's (Tai Hara) upcoming wedding after overhearing his unexpected declaration of love in the series one finale — a confession that she can’t unhear.

It has also been confirmed that Ardal O'Hanlon will again guest star as DI Jack Mooney. Plus Australian screen stars Danielle Cormack, Meyne Wyatt, Roz Hammond, Justine Clarke, Michelle Lim Davidson, Greg Stone, Zoe Carides, Simon Lyndon and Miah Madden also guest. Tim Rogers, the iconic lead singer of rock legends You Am I also guest stars.
