It has been confirmed that Maddy Hill and Himesh Patel, who play Nancy and Tamwar, have quit EastEnders and have filmed their last scenes.

Maddy has played Nancy since January 2014, while Himesh has been with the soap since October 2007.

Onsceen, Nancy and Tam, who were a couple, split up last month. Whether or not they leave as a couple or go their separate ways is yet to be revealed.

But EastEnders reps have told the Mirror that they have filmed their final scenes, which will air in the next few weeks.

As the news was announced, Maddy said: “It was time for Nancy to take a break from her family and me from EastEnders after having a wonderful time working on the show.”

“I was surrounded by a terrific team both on and off camera and I shall miss seeing them all on a daily basis, especially the fabulous Carter family.”

Himesh commented: “I’m looking forward to new challenges, perhaps on the stage or behind the camera. Whatever awaits me, I’ll miss my family at EastEnders immensely - they’ve watched me grow from boy to man and supported me every step of the way.”

Nancy is about to find herself in a very dark place after the family is told that baby Ollie could have brain damage following an accident when she pushed brother Lee (Danny-Boy Hatchard) into Ollie’s high chair during a fight.

In upcoming episodes, Linda (Kellie Bright) is going to find Ollie not breathing in his cot. Linda manages to revive him, but then the little boy has a seizure. He’s rushed to hospital, where doctors deliver the devastating news to Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda.

A scan shows Ollie has bleeding on his brain after a blow to his head – the nasty bump he got when his high chair was knocked over.

Mick blames Nancy for Ollie's serious injuries. Will he throw her out?

And, distraught over Ollie’s injuries, Mick tells his mum, Shirley (Linda Henry), that he blames Nancy for what’s happened.

With Nancy now leaving, it sounds like the Carter family is going to fall apart…

“I really wanted us to work,” Nancy told Tam, when they split up.

It took a while for Nancy Carter (Maddy Hill) and Tamwar Masood (Himesh Patel) to hook up on EastEnders last year, but when they did, their blossoming romance became one of the sweetest in soaps.

The young couple seemed like the perfect match, each of them able to empathise with the other's insecurities… Nancy struggling to come to terms with her newly-diagnosed epilepsy and Tamwar reluctant to reveal the burns scars on his body.

But the strength of their relationship is put to the test when Tamwar thoughtlessly creates a situation that leaves Nancy feeling embarrassed and ashamed next week.

Earlier, determined to make a go of their pop-up restaurant in the launderette, Nancy hands in her notice at The Vic to concentrate on the new business with Tamwar. Unfortunately, Tamwar hasn't quit his own job and Nancy's annoyed when he's called away and leaves her to cope alone.

Under pressure, Nancy begins to struggle and she suffers a seizure that leaves her in an embarrassing situation.

After Nancy is taken home, Tamwar learns what's happened and visits The Vic to see her. She listens heartbroken as her angry dad, Mick (Danny Dyer), turns him away…

Devastated Tamwar sits thoughtfully by himself after returning home and wonders how he could have been so stupid…

He knows how much Nancy's hurting and fears he may have ruined their relationship…

Linda (Kellie Bright) is concerned about her daughter, who still feels embarrassed and continues to hide herself away in The Vic.

Things are heating up between Nancy Carter and Tamwar Masood in EastEnders – as a heart-to-heart leads to something more.

In new images from the soap, it looks like Nancy (Maddy Hill) and Tamwar (Himesh Patel) – or should we call them Nanwar? Or Tamcy? – have all the potential to be an EastEnders power couple.

It's been on the cards for a while, but it looks like a romance between Nancy Carter and Tamwar Masood might actually happen when they share a kiss over a lunch date.

Tamwar (Himesh Patel) invites his friend Nancy (Maddy Hill) around for lunch at his house to cheer her up after the tough time she’s been having with all of the Carter family drama.

During EastEnders’ 30th anniversary week, viewers saw Nancy stopping Mick (Danny Dyer) from beating up his brother Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) in the Queen Vic’s beer store. But when rapist Dean later disappeared, Nancy was worried that her dad killed his hated brother.

So when Nancy breaks down in tears over lunch and Tamwar comforts her, she leans in to kiss him.

But Tamwar is surprised at what she has done – how will the pair feel about each other once they have had time to calm down?

The episode is due to air on BBC1 on Thursday 12 March.

EastEnders star Maddy Hill has said she often goes around unnoticed.

The actress, who plays Nancy Carter in the BBC soap, revealed once she’s out of the tracksuit, fans can barely recognise her.

“Actually, I don’t have the downside of fame. My character look is so specific and as soon as I don’t look like that, I am completely invisible so I can hide,” said Maddy, who was a winner at the National Television Awards. “If I’ve got my hair down and my hat on, I’m absolutely fine.”

She added that she enjoys dressing down for work and glamming up for ceremonies such as the National Television Awards.

“It’s nice to have that comparison – to be really comfortable at work and then, I could stick anything on for here and people would be like, ‘You’re wearing a dress’. I’d say it’s great. I like it,” she said.

Maddy, who beat Hollyoaks’ Cameron Moore, Emmerdale actor Michael Parr and Casualty’s Lee Mead for the prize, said her life is different since she joined the show in January 2014.

“(My life) has changed very drastically. I’m a lot busier, but I absolutely love it and I don’t see the downsides,” she said.

But she admitted that people only want to know one thing when they meet her.

“People always want to know what Danny Dyer’s like in real life,” she said. “He’s ridiculous. He’s a preposterous human being. I love him.”

EastEnders fans all over Britain held their breath while Ronnie (Samantha Womack) lay lifeless in hospital on New Year’s Day after her baby boy’s birth… Then her heart started beating again… Phew!

In the following episode, it’s Nancy (Maddy Hill) who’s holding her breath, as she allows Shirley (Linda Henry) to settle back in at the Queen Vic - against her dad Mick’s wishes.

Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) tells Nancy: “What Mick [Danny Dyer] don’t know won’t hurt him”, clearly not realising that now is not the time to be keeping more secrets from Mick, who has just found out that Dean (Matt Di Angelo) raped Linda (Kellie Bright) and that Shirley is his mother, not his sister, making Dean his brother, with Buster (Karl Howman) as their father. Which all means that Stan (Timothy West) and Sylvie (Linda Marlowe) are his grandparents, not his mum and dad.

Sharon plants the first seeds of doubt by revealing Linda kissed Dean, doesn’t she?

“Yes and Nancy’s really shocked - she would never ever expect that of her mum. She sees her mum as a lot of things, but not disloyal and definitely not a cheater. She’s taken aback. Her mum has always been utterly loyal to her dad.”

Does she believe Sharon (Letitia Dean) straight away?

“Why would Sharon make it up? She can’t think of a reason she would, so she has to believe it. Sharon has no ulterior motive.”

How does she feel towards her mum after it?

“She’s really angry and upset. Nancy is so close to her dad, she’s such a Daddy’s girl, so this is the ultimate betrayal.”

And how does she feel about Dean (Matt Di Angelo)?

“Absolutely venomous. She can’t stand him. She tried to welcome him into her family and he repays her by doing this!”

Do you think the fact that Mick lied to her about the Rainie situation has made this worse for her? 

“Probably. It’s hit Nancy a little bit later than most that her parents aren’t infallible, they’re not perfect. When it’s one after the other it’s more hard hitting.”

Will she tell her dad, Mick (Danny Dyer)?

“She’s tempted to tell him, but she thinks it will do more harm than good and she wants to get to the bottom of what’s actually going on. She knows it will crush her dad and he’ll go nuts at Dean and that will be a lot to handle. So she has to measure the pros and cons before doing something rash.”

But then she sees Linda (Kellie Bright) and Dean together…

“That’s when she decides that they’re having a full blown affair. She’s not actually seen anything other than maybe a look which is Dean pining after Linda. But when you have an idea in your head, you fill it out and see things that aren’t even there. Nancy read it really wrong, though; it’s just Linda being awkward with Dean after what happened.”

And then she tells Mick?

“You’ll have to tune in and see! Nancy’s very angry so anything could happen. I can tell you that there’s going to be a major chink in the Carter armour that’s going to affect the whole family.”

EastEnders will feature a clip of freshly filmed World Cup reaction in the first episode to screen after England’s debut match in the tournament.

The episode will feature a clip of  Danny Dyer’s character Mick Carter and his daughter Nancy (Maddy Hill) - a West Ham fanatic -  in the Vic discussing England’s 2-1 defeat against Italy.

The Mirror reports that a source close to the show says Danny and Maddy will record the footage and it will be dropped in seamlessly with the rest of the episode.

They said: “It wouldn’t be right if Mick Carter, who loves the beautiful game, didn’t comment on England’s first big game of the World Cup. If the country is talking about, so too would the residents of Walford.”

The BBC soap have previous recorded last minute clips of Andy Murray’s Wimbledon win and the birth of Prince George.

British Soap Awards Best Newcomer nominee Maddy Hill tells TV Times magazine why Nancy Carter is a different kind of EastEnders character…

How does it feel to be nominated for Best Newcomer?

"Firstly, I didn’t know I was eligible for a nomination. I thought all the nominations were out, so it was a big surprise. It’s really cool. But you see, I still can’t believe I am actually being paid to act. All the while I was learning to hear the word 'No' after auditions, I had my own theatre group and was acting for free!"

What do you think is so great about Nancy Carter?

"I am a raging feminist and I think that the sexual objectification of women in the media is a big problem. Nancy is a great role model for young women and I am grateful to have the opportunity to showcase my acting without it being anything to do with the way I look."

What about Nancy's wardrobe?

"Nancy wasn’t going to be a tomboy. She was going to get married in a Juicy Couture tracksuit with a thong hanging out. I had a pair of basketball shorts at home that I wore to bed, so I suggested them for Nancy, which shaped the rest of her wardrobe and made her quite extreme. At EastEnders, if you bring ideas to the table, they're all ears, so it was a joint effort building the character."

What do you make of the clothes you wear for the character?

"Being hidden under baggy clothes is very freeing. If I get pasta belly at lunchtime, I don’t have to worry. A lot of my clothes at home are quite tight and I am beginning to resent them! I also love the fact that I am only in make-up for 15 minutes whereas some actresses are in there for an hour, the poor things."

We have to say that we think there's something something incredibly fresh and natural about your performance…

"It’s lovely of you to say that. I try not to over-think things. If I toy with something too much, then it looks a bit forced on screen. I try and react instinctively in the moment. Once I put Nancy’s clothes on, I feel as if I am in her skin."

Nancy has epilepsy. How did you research that?

"I watched loads of epileptic fits online. I practised them at home and there was this ongoing thing where my brother would come home and find me fitting on the floor. It is odd lying next to wardrobe mirrors to check how your fit is going."

How do you fancy your chances at winning Best Newcomer?

"I think Amy Kelly who plays Maddie Heath in Coronation Street is great. She would be a worthy winner. Whatever happens, the Soap Awards will be fun and I’ll be sitting there with bated breath. I’ll also be wearing a dress! Playing Nancy makes it easy for me. All I have to do is put on a dress and people think it’s nice that I have made an effort."
