Rebecca Adlington knows all about fiddling with goggles and standing nervously on the starting blocks for an Olympic swimming final as the former GB Olympic star won golds at 400m and 800m freestyle in Beijing in 2008.

Now, 16 years later, the former world record holder is excited to be soaking up the atmosphere poolside in Paris as a BBC pundit.

What To Watch caught up with 35-year-old mum-of-two Rebecca for an exclusive chat at her home via Zoom to get the lowdown on the swimming stars to look out for this time…

Interview: Rebecca Adlington gives an exclusive lowdown on the Paris Olympics swimming action

Are you excited for all the Paris pool action?
Rebecca Adlington says: "Yes, it’s going to be buzzing and it’s great to have Olympic crowds back after missing them in Tokyo, so it’ll feel a little bit more like Rio and London. There’ll be myself and Mark Foster assessing the races, while Clare Balding hosts. Swimming tickets are like gold dust apparently and I’m just so excited."

How do you think GB's world record holder Adam Peaty will fare this time in the 100m breaststroke?
"I don't pretend to know Adam really well but he does seem to be in a more content, happy place. He’s had a challenging couple of years with illness and injuries — he had his tonsils out and then a fractured foot. Mentally it’s been very hard. He’s a great dad with his son George and is really happy with Holly (Ramsay, chef Gordon’s daughter) so his personal life seems sorted. I don’t think people quite appreciate how hard it’s been for him to achieve his best level and maintain it. The public haven’t really appreciated how good and special Adam is. He’s fundamentally changed the history books and changed breaststroke, almost creating this whole new stroke. His main rival will be Qin Hiyang of China. It could be close! The GB relays are strong too and Adam’s strong breaststroke leg means we have a really good team for both the men’s medley relay and the mixed medley relay."

British freestyler Matt Richards is the current world champion at 200m – what are his chances?
"With Matt it’s been a pleasure to see his career grow and he has a fellow Brit, Duncan Scott, who won silver in the 200m in Tokyo, as his big rival. That should push them both on! It’s nice when your own teammate is a main challenger. We saw Matt burst onto the scene with the 4 x 200m relay gold in Tokyo and now he’s really come into his own as an individual swimmer and he is the world champ. Our 4x 200m men’s team will be the same four who won in Tokyo — Matt, Duncan, plus Olympic gold winner Tom Dean and James Guy. They are hot favourites again!"

Tell us bit more about the new GB backstroke star Oliver Morgan?
"Although Oliver is very new and up and coming and probably doesn’t have the same experience as others, he’s on a team with veterans like Adam and that really helps. He broke the British record earlier this year and has really strengthened our men’s medley relay too. Luke Greenbank has a chance too in the men’s 200m backstroke as be’s better with the longer distance."

So turning to GB women’s swimmers… who could shine?
"Keanna MacInnes and Laura Stephens in the 200m butterfly are definitely up there for medal hopes. I’m one of those people who never say never. They are quite experienced now, and both are really level-headed. It is going to be a tough challenge. It’s the same for Abbie Wood and our world champ Freya Colbert in the 200m individual medley. The Americans and Australians are really, really good across the board and they’re up against Canadian superstar Summer McIntosh who’s amazing. Our sprint freestyler Anna Hopkin is definitely in the mix for a medal and the relays are strong too!"

French swimmer Leon Marchand looks set to drive the home crowds wild…
"Yes, never underestimate how home support can give you an edge! Leon’s main challenger for the 200m Individual Medley is Britain’s Duncan Scott who won two individual silvers in Tokyo and is desperate for an individual gold. I’d say Leon is a bit more of a 400 IM specialist. He’s amazing at the 200 IM too but it’ll be interesting to see he handles the pressure of the home crowd. Duncan I know loves a buzzing atmosphere."

Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson premieres tonight

If making people laugh were an Olympic game, Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson would be gold medalists, and now the comedic duo is getting in on all of the athletic glory with a new Olympic Highlights series, premiering tonight, July 26, on Peacock.

Kicking off at 6pm Eastern Time, the commentary series will serve as companion programming to the 2024 Paris Olympics and will recap the best and most unexpected moments of the summer games. Running for eight episodes—the series will roll out two to three episodes per week beginning on Friday, July 26 to coincide with the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony and will run through Sunday, August 11—the special will feature Olympic-themed in-studio competitions, discussions and interviews with major athletes from the games.

“We can’t wait to be a part of the Paris Olympics and help hype up the audience with highlights from the best moments of the Games,” Kevin Hart said in a press release. “We’re going for gold, everybody!”

Added Thompson: “Kev and I are super excited to be part of the Paris Olympics by recapping performances from some of the world’s best athletes. Let’s go Team U.S.A.!”

Hart previously co-hosted an Olympic Highlights series for Peacock for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 alongside rap legend Snoop Dogg. He and Thompson already previously teamed up on 2022 Back That Year Up for Peacock, a year-end special looking back at that year's biggest moments in pop culture, sports and more.

To tune into Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson, you're going to need access to Peacock. The streaming platform recently raised prices ahead of the Olympics: Peacock Premium went up to $8 per month instead of $6 and $80 annually, up from $60. How It Really Happened digs into the Atlanta Olympic Bombing

It's finally here: the 2024 Paris Olympics officially kicks off on Friday, July 26, but before the world can get wowed by all of those athletic feats in the pool, on the track and across the gymnastics mat, you can learn about one of the most shocking moments in all of Olympics history: the 1996 terrorist attack that took place at the Atlanta-set Summer Games in Centennial Park. That crime is at the center of the two-hour special edition of CNN's How It Really Happened series airing tonight.

On Saturday, July 27, 1996, domestic terrorist Eric Rudolph planted three pipe bombs to detonate in the "town square" of the Summer Olympics. The blast directly killed one person and injured 111 others; another person later died of a heart attack.

Security guard Richard Jewell had discovered the bomb before detonation, notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation officers, and cleared out spectators with help from fellow security guards. But "as a manhunt gets called, security guard Richard Jewell gets falsely accused by the authorities and the media," reads the official synopsis. (If his story sounds familiar, it served as the subject of the 2019 Clint Eastwood-directed film Richard Jewell.)

With part one airing at 9pm Eastern Time on CNN and part two to follow at 10pm, the special episode of How It Really Happened "features interviews with former special agents and journalists who were on scene at the time of the Centennial Park bombing and investigated the case," per the network. "It also features interviews with friends and the attorney of falsely accused suspect Richard Jewell."

To tune into tonight's two-hour special as it airs, you will need access to CNN. In the weeks leading up to the Olympics, NBC is presenting a new season of the award-winning multiplatform podcast My New Favorite Olympian profiling Team USA’s most-inspiring athletes. The seven-part audio and video series is led by 12-time Olympic medalist swimmer Natalie Coughlin and Zena Keita, an NBC Sports Bay Area reporter, host and analyst.

The series "provides in-depth narratives profiling established and emerging American stars who have overcome adversity, broken barriers, and committed to helping others as they pursue Olympic or Paralympic glory," per NBCUniversal. Each episode focuses on a different Olympic and Paralympic hopeful—such as swimmer Lydia Jacoby, gymnast Jordan Chiles, climber Jesse Grupper and beach volleyball player Kelly Cheng—with interviews from the athlete themself as well as those closest to them.

The opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics takes place on July 26 (though some official Olympic competitions begin starting July 24), but if you are eagerly awaiting the start of the games then you're in luck. How to watch US Olympic Trials

All of the US Olympic trials are going to be available on either NBC, USA Network, Peacock or an NBCUniversal digital app or website.

Just about all finals are going to air on NBC. In order to watch you must have a traditional pay-TV provider, a TV antenna or a live TV streaming service that carries NBC, which includes Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV. You can also stream NBC coverage live if you are a subscriber to Peacock Premium Plus.

For coverage on USA Network, you must again have either a traditional pay-TV provider or a live TV streaming service that carries the cable channel (Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV).

Peacock is going to offer its own coverage of some events, either those that are airing in early morning/afternoon or particular events in track & field and gymnastics in case you want to focus on one thing rather than rely on NBC's coverage that will jump around a bit. Peacock's coverage is available for both Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus subscribers.

In addition to Peacock, any other event that is labeled as "digital only" above should be available on NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com and the NBC or NBC Sports apps.

11 must-watch athletes at the Winter Olympics

While there are thousands of athletes competing in the Winter Olympics in Beijing this year — all of whom have trained incredibly hard and are living out their Olympic dreams — there are always a handful of athletes who steal the show and become must-watch TV for Olympics fans.

We never know who is going to surprise us — U.S. fans fell in love with the men’s curling team, on their way to a surprising gold medal, at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics — but, as we get ready for the 2022 Winter Olympics starting on Feb. 4, here’s who you need to be sure to watch as they vie for gold.

Maame Biney, short track speed skating

Maame Biney made history at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics as the first Black woman to compete on the U.S. Olympic short track team. Now readying for her second Olympics, she is focused on much more than just making the team, she wants a medal. With this goal in mind, she says that she has created an alter ego for when she competes, “Anna Digger”. While she has competed in multiple distances, she excels in the fastest short track speed skating event, the 500m.

Nathan Chen, figure skating

Nathan Chen was hoping to have a much better showing in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, but a fall early in the competition caused the then 18-year-old to miss the podium, even though he did rebound from that rough start. After the 2018 games, Chen went on a huge winning streak, taking the top prize in his next 14 competitions, just ending in 2021. Chen is doing things on the ice that few others can even attempt and looks for redemption to achieve his Olympics dream of gold, but he’ll have a familiar foe to deal with during the Beijing games, Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu.

Great Britain curling team

Britain has high hopes for both its men’s and women’s teams, who are consistently among the best in the world for the unusual sport that’s like bowls on ice (with a broom). Women’s skipper Eve Muirhead is at her fourth Olympics and the team is confident having recently beaten reigning Olympic champions Sweden and the winners of the last two world championships Switzerland. Eve’s teammate, Jennifer Dodds, also has a good chance in the mixed doubles partnering with Bruce Moat, who’s the skipper for the British men’s team. The British men have made a major impact in world competitions over the last three years at both world and European championships.

Yuzuru Hanyu, figure skating

The first Asian skater to win the Olympic gold medal in men’s single figure skating, Yuzura Hanyu is the two-time defending gold medalist in that competition, including besting Chen in 2018. The Japanese skater is one of the most popular in the sport, but finds himself recovering from an ankle injury he suffered in November 2021, hoping that he will be 100% in time for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. If so, and even though the men’s single figure skating competition will feature a slew of other skaters, the rivalry between Hanyu and Nathan Chen will be among the most exciting at the entire games.

Scotty James, snowboarding

Australia’s Scotty James is expected to be one of the favorites in the men’s snowboard halfpipe. The reigning bronze medalist from 2018, three-time X Games champ and three-time world champion is known for his red-mittens and signature trick, a switch backside double cork 1260. Gold for men’s snowboard halfpipe at the Olympics has only ever gone to athletes from the U.S. or Switzerland, but after being the first Australian man to medal in the event, he hopes to join fellow Aussie Torah Bright (Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics) as a halfpipe gold medalist.

Chloe Kim, snowboarding

One of the breakout stars of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, Chloe Kim will look to defend her snowboard halfpipe gold medal. Since her triumphant 2018 Olympics, Kim — who is still just 21 — attended Princeton University and took a nearly two-year break from competition (in part recovering from a broken ankle). However none of that has slowed her down, as she won her first competition back and is the favorite to repeat in Beijing. With Shaun White exiting the international stage following these Olympics, Kim is the next face of U.S. snowboarding, if she isn’t already.

Katie Ormerod, snowboarding

In 2018, three days before the Olympic Slopestyle snowboard competition in PyeongChang, Great Britain’s Katie Omerod came off a rail early and broke her heel bone, and her Olympics were over. Seven operations later, plus plenty of rehab, 24-year-old Katie is back in Beijing hoping for redemption as she enters the two Olympic snowboarding competitions of Slopestyle and Big Air.

Mikaela Shiffrin, alpine skiing

At just 26 years old, Mikaela Shiffrin is already appearing in her third Winter Olympics and, should things go her way at the games, she could become the most decorated American alpine skier of all time. Shiffrin currently has three Olympic medals (two gold, on silver) and is considered the favorite in the slalom and giant slalom events, while also expected to be a strong contender in other alpine skiing disciplines (she is expected to compete in five events). Two more medals would have her pass Julia Mancuso as the most decorated U.S. Olympic woman alpine skier, while four more would make her the most decorated U.S. alpine skier, man or woman (passing Bode Miller’s six). Whether or not she can do it will be one of the biggest storylines of the games.

USA & Canada Women’s National Ice Hockey Teams

Since women’s ice hockey has been included in the Olympics (starting with the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics), the gold medal has been won by either Canada (four times) or the U.S. (two times), with the two sides facing off in the gold medal game all but once. And following the classic shoot-out victory by Team USA to win the gold medal at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, everyone is eager to see these teams face off again as the two favorites for the gold. The United States Women’s National Ice Hockey team is led by Hilary Knight and Brianna Decker, while Team Canada has Sarah Nurse and Marie-Philip Poulin highlighting their roster.

As it turns out, USA and Canada are in the same preliminary group, so we'll get a rematch between the two teams on Feb. 8.

Shaun White, snowboarding

Shaun White, aka the Flying Tomato, is one of the most iconic U.S. Winter Olympians in the history of the games. Set for what will be his fifth, and final, Olympics, White looks to claim snowboard halfpipe gold for the fourth time, which would make him the first snowboarder in Olympics history with four gold medals. White has been less active on the snowboard circuit since the 2018 Winter Olympics and has some stiff competition at this year’s games and he may need to pull out the triple cork (three diagonal flips) to win, a trick that put him in the hospital in 2013 and that was only successfully landed for the first time in December (by Japan’s Ayumu Hirano, one of White’s competitors).

James Woods, freestyle skier

Known as “Woodsy” to his mates, British superstar James Woods is near the top of the world freestyle skiing leaderboard, having finished an agonizing fourth in the last Olympics. He won Slopestyle gold at the world championships in Utah two years ago, so he’ll be looking to repeat that success. James also competes in the Big Air event, so the 29-year-old definitely has a busy Olympic Games ahead of him.

It was 29 years ago that the Dream Team went to the Barcelona Olympics and changed the expectation of Olympics men's basketball forever. At this year’s Tokyo Olympics, it’s not just the U.S. sporting a roster featuring NBA players, which will hopefully make for an exciting men’s basketball tournament.

Of course, team USA’s roster is entirely filled with NBA players, among which are Kevin Durant, Space Jam: A New Legacy star Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, Draymond Green and more.

Current and former NBA stars playing for other countries though include Luka Dončić (Slovenia), Rudy Gobert (France), Luis Scola (Argentina), Marc and Pau Gasol (Spain), Patty Mills (Australia), Tomáš Satoranský (Czech Republic), Mortiz Wagner (Germany), Danilo Gallinari (Italy), Jahlil Okafor (Nigeria) and Rui Hachimura (Japan).

An interesting wrinkle to this year is that the NBA Finals is going on even closer to the Olympics than it normally would, which could impact some players’ plans to play. Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton are all listed on team USA’s roster, as is Jordan Nwora for Nigeria. The NBA Finals is already set to go at least six games, which would mean ending on July 20, but if it goes to a game seven, then the series would not be over until July 22, a day before the Opening Ceremony. We’ll have to wait and see how that all works out.

In the meantime, the men’s basketball tournament will feature group play in the preliminary rounds before the knockout stage begins. Here are the group breakdowns:

How to watch the Tokyo Olympics men’s basketball tournament in the U.S.

On broadcast, NBC will split up coverage of the Tokyo Olympics men’s basketball tournament across its main network, NBCSN, USA and CNBC (as far as the televised games we know of). NBC is available as a local channel and can be accessed through an antenna, a cable subscription or a subscription to a vMVPD service like Fubo TV, YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV or Sling TV.

NBCSN, USA and CNBC are all cable channels and are available with certain traditional cable subscriptions or the vMVPD services mentioned above. Subscribers to these cable packages can also access NBC Olympics coverage through the NBC Sports app or NBCSports.com.

NBCUniversal's own Peacock service, meanwhile, will serve as the streaming home for team USA men’s basketball, offering all of their games live on the platform. However, unlike other sports that will be shown on Peacock like gymnastics and track & field, men’s basketball will only be accessible to Peacock Premium subscribers, either the $4.99 ad-supported version or the $9.99 ad-free one.

It is not clear as of publication if other games from the men’s basketball tournament will also be shown live on Peacock Premium.

How to watch the Tokyo Olympics men’s basketball tournament in the U.K./Canada

For any basketball fans across the pond in the U.K., they will need to check the Olympics broadcast schedule from BBC and Eurosport on whether they will be covering any of the men’s basketball games. If not on broadcast TV, streaming will be available through BBC iPlayer and Eurosport Player/Discovery Plus or highlights of all events will be included on their respective websites.

In Canada, live streams of many of the men’s basketball tournament games will be available through CBC Gem, a dedicated Tokyo Olympics website and the CBC Olympics app. It is unclear if the basketball action will get any coverage on broadcast TV — CBC’s schedule as of publication consists of four Olympics-centric programs taking place throughout the day, but no details on what will be covered.

For my entire life NBC has held the U.S. broadcast rights to the Olympics. The network continues to expand its coverage of the games and will once again do so this year, including for the women’s basketball tournament.

As of publication, only U.S. women’s basketball games will be shown live on TV, with all the of the group stage games airing on USA, and then replays either playing on USA or NBCSN — a group stage matchup between Canada and Spain is also getting a replay on USA. What to Watch will update this page if any other of the women’s basketball group stage games will air on TV.

To watch the available women’s basketball games on USA, NBCSN or CNBC, viewers will need a subscription either to a traditional cable package or one of Hulu with Live TV, Fubo TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV. To watch the semifinal and gold medal games on NBC, any of those subscriptions would work, as would a good old-fashioned TV antenna.

Up next for the U.S. Women's Olympic Soccer Team? The Netherlands in the Tokyo 2020 quarterfinals. (Yes, in 2021. Welcome to the new way of doing things.)

It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride thus far. The women — the bulk of whom were part of the Rio team in 2016 — were blanked by Sweden 3-0 in their opening match. They rebounded to beat New Zealand 6-1 before playing Australia to a snoozer of a scoreless draw to close out group play.

They advanced, and fairly easily, though it definitely wasn't the dominant U.S. Women's National Team we've seen of late. They'll need to regain that swagger when they play the Netherlands at 7 a.m. Eastern time (that's 8 p.m. in Tokyo) on Friday, July 30.

The match should be on NBCSN here in the United States.

And that's good news, because NBCSN is available on every cable and satellite system. It's also available on every major streaming service.

How to watch Tokyo Olympics swimming events in the U.S.

Swimming is one of the marquee events for NBC’s Olympics broadcast, and the network will make it very easy for people to watch all the action.

All of the swimming heats will take place in the early morning live on USA, while all semifinals and finals will air during primetime on the flagship NBC network (until the open water swimming finals, which will air on NBCSN).

Viewers with an antenna, basic cable package or a subscription to the major vMVPD streaming services (YouTube TV, Fubo TV, Sling TV or Hulu with Live TV) all have access to their local NBC station, which will feature all of the primetime Olympic broadcasts. The Tokyo Olympics are here! After a pandemic delay turned the traditional four-year wait for the summer Olympics into five years, the Tokyo Olympics will begin this week.

The Olympic games feature some of the world’s best athletes in a wide range of sports, from the track to the pool, from the hard court to the balance beam, promising to make the games’ two weeks packed with plenty of action.

Even though some sports will get underway on July 21 in Japan (the evening of July 20 for us here in the U.S.), the Tokyo Olympics officially begin with the Opening Ceremony on July 23. The Opening Ceremony is always one of the most anticipated events of the games as the host countries love to put together elaborate performances and the athletes get to walk into the main Olympic stadium behind their country’s flag. For YouTube TV subscribers, they will be able to watch the Opening Ceremony in 4K.

Of course, the Opening Ceremony, and the rest of the games, will be different from past Olympics because of the lingering effects of the global pandemic. NBC’s coverage of the Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 20, with softball and men’s and women’s soccer playing on NBCSN, USA and The Olympic Channel. Then it kicks things into high gear with its broadcast of the Opening Ceremony on July 23 on the flagship NBC network.

To watch the flagship network, which is available as a local station in all TV markets, viewers need either a basic cable package or a good old-fashioned TV antenna. If you’ve cut the cord, vMVPD services like Fubo TV, YouTube TV, Sling TV and Hulu with Live TV also offer live NBC coverage.

How to watch Tokyo Olympics skateboarding in the U.S.

The entire skateboarding competition will be shown live on-air on either USA or CNBC, with a replay of the men’s park finals airing on NBCSN in the early hours of Aug. 5. For fans to be able to watch these events on their TVs, they will need either a traditional cable subscription or vMVPD subscription (i.e. Sling TV, Fubo TV, YouTube TV or Hulu with Live TV) package that includes the channels.

The Peacock streaming service will also have replays of the skateboarding events, as it is doing for all Olympic events, on its free tier. The free tier is supported by ads; an ad-free version of Peacock is available for $9.99.

Roku is also getting in on the Olympic spirit, announcing a partnership with NBCU that will allow Roku users to access some of NBC’s Olympics coverage immediately from the Roku home page.

U.K. viewers looking to cheer on Sky Brown will be able to watch all of the Olympic action on either BBC or Eurosport. BBC is included in basic cable packages available in the country as well as through the Freeview TV service. Eurosport, meanwhile, is a premium cable channel that requires a subscription.

Streaming of the games will be available through the BBC iPlayer service, free to anyone with a U.K. TV license, as well as the Eurosport Player service, which is included as part of the Discovery Plus service (£4.99 per month) or available as a channel add-on on Amazon Prime (£6.99 per month).

Baseball, like softball, is making a return at the Tokyo Olympics after having been benched as an official Olympic sport since 2008. The lineup of countries participating in the six team tournament will include the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Israel.

Unlike basketball, which will have just finished its season, and other sports that often take a break for the Olympics, don’t expect to be seeing any big leaguers vying for gold. MLB is not stopping its season for the games, but rather team USA is pooling from the minor leagues and free agents. So we won’t be seeing Mike Trout play, but recognizable names like Todd Fraizer, Edwin Jackson, Scott Kazmir and David Robertson are on the team, along with up-and-comers.

The tournament will start off with group play. Japan, Mexico and the Dominican Republic are in Group A, while the U.S., South Korea and Israel are in Group B. Then we move into a knockout stage that is a little complicated and long to write out here, so here’s a link to a visual layout of the knockout stage.

How to watch the Tokyo Olympics baseball tournament in the U.S.

The broadcast schedule for the Tokyo Olympics baseball tournament as of this post’s publication leaves a good portion of the schedule up in the air. The group stage games do not have a network assigned to watch live, save for the U.S. vs. Korea on July 31 at 6 a.m. on NBCSN. However, we do know that Peacock will be offering replays of events throughout the games and that the semifinals will air on NBCSN and a replay of the gold medal game will air on USA.

To be able to watch the games that are on broadcast TV, fans are going to need either a traditional cable subscription that includes NBCSN and USA as part of its channel lineup or a subscription to one of the major vMVPD streaming platforms — Fubo TV, Sling TV, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV. The Tokyo Olympics are adding a handful of new sports this year (rock climbing and skateboarding), but the OG events of track & field will continue to be a focal point of the games.

Track & field consists of a multitude of different disciplines, including running, high jumping, pole vaulting, shot put, discus, decathlon and more. While sprinting usually draws the headlines and makes some of the biggest stars of the games (remember how Usain Bolt was appointment viewing), it’s always fun to watch the incredible feats of the slew of athletes competing in track & field.

Among the headliners for the Tokyo Olympics though are expected to be Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a two-time Olympic gold-medalist and who has run the fastest 100m split by a woman since Florence Griffith Joyner in 1988.

The U.S. has some big name sprinters as well in Gold medalist Allyson Felix, now competing in the Olympics as a mom; Noah Lyles, the reigning world champ in the 200m. Other stars include Sydney McLaughlin, a Rio breakout and potential favorite in Tokyo for the hurdles; Ryan Crouser in shot put, who broke the long-standing steroid-era shot put record; and Erriyon Knight, a teenager who is already breaking some of Usain Bolt’s records.

It may also be the final Olympics for Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya, arguably the greatest marathoner ever, defending gold medalist and the only person to ever run a sub two hour marathon (in a controlled environment).

How to watch Tokyo Olympics track & field events in the U.S.

Track & field will be a big part of NBC’s coverage of the second week of the Olympics. The events will get double coverage during primetime hours on NBC (mixed in with other events) and USA (offering full track & field coverage). Some coverage will also take place on CNBC and NBCSN.

NBC’s flagship network is available to viewers over TV antennas or as part of your basic cable packages, as well as vMVPD services like Fubo TV, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV. USA, CNBC and NBCSN are premium cable channels that are available through cable packages and on the above-mentioned vMVPD streaming services.

In addition, if a viewer subscribes to any of these cable packages, they will be able to access NBC coverage of the Olympics through the NBC Sports app or NBCSports.com.

There will also be live track & field coverage that takes place in the morning hours here in the U.S., all of which will be available on Peacock, the NBCUniversal streaming service. Rebecca Adlington on swimming at the Tokyo Olympics — 'I can't wait for the racing to start!'

Rebecca Adlington knows what it takes to do very well at an Olympics and become a new world superstar in the process. She won two gold medals for Great Britain back at the 2008 Beijing Games at 400m and 800m freestyle, breaking the world record for the longer event. She also won two bronze medals at London four years later. Rebecca's now ready and excited to be part of the BBC presenting team for the Tokyo Olympics, giving her thoughts on the races and swimmers alongside her fellow Olympic swimmer Mark Foster and BBC swimming coverage host JJ Chalmers.

It's going to be an all-nighter for Rebecca, Mark and JJ, as the swimming finals begin on the BBC in the early hours of the morning, as sessions from the Olympic pool start from 2-2.30am British time. It's an unusual arrangement of morning finals in Tokyo and heats in the evening, but it's to coincide with prime time television viewing in the US the night before. But Rebecca is quite used to being up through the night these days, having given birth to her baby boy Albie four months ago, younger brother to her six-year-old, Summer. 'Yes sleepless nights are quite the norm for me these days," Rebecca laughs as we chat on the phone, with baby Albie letting out a few cries in the background. "Obviously, we've waited five years since Rio for the Olympics so Mark, JJ and myself are really raring to go! I can't wait for the racing to start."

So here's Rebecca Adlington on what we can expect from the swimming events at the Tokyo Olympics...

Rebecca Adlington on what to expect with all the restrictions and COVID issues going on at the Tokyo Olympics...

Rebecca Adlington says: "I know all the swimmers have had their own kind of isolation for the couple of weeks before heading out to Tokyo. They weren't even able to see family, friends or going out for meals. They were in their bubble just so they were safe, because if they tested positive just before they were supposed to head to Tokyo they wouldn't have been allowed on the plane, so that would have been Olympics over for them. So it has been very difficult and unlike any Games before.

"The announcement that there won't be any spectators now watching the races will make this a very different Olympics too. But the British team are kind of prepared for that. The British OIympic trials and recent European championships were the same and the swimmers did really well with it. They've known for a long time that friends and family can't be there in Tokyo and they're fine with that. They know everyone can watch it from home. That's the main thing, isn't it? Any interview I've heard with a swimmer they say they're just grateful the Games are going ahead.

"Some media are allowed poolside, so we'll have Sharron Davies there, at a distance, getting swimmer reactions to the races, while Mark Foster, JJ Chalmers and myself are back in Britain presenting from the studio."

Can Britain's Adam Peaty be beaten in the 100m breaststroke...

Rebecca says: "No! I don't think he can be beaten. Not unless there’s an utter disaster for him or illness. Obviously, hey, it's the Olympic Games and anything can happen. Nasty surprises can come out the woodwork, but I can't see it happening. Adam’s really focussed on the 100m and so much faster than the rest of the world. While some swimmers have definitely bridged the gap if you like and are slightly closer to him, it’s certainly not substantial enough to make me that nervous. He’s still miles out in front of everyone. Adam is just so happy, content with fatherhood and life, and is confident his training has gone really well. It really is his gold medal, all being well. One of his main rivals is British swimmer James Wilby, and it would be so lovely to see the pair of them on the podium together."

Why do you think Adam Peaty is so much faster than anyone else?

Rebecca says: "It’s down to his athleticism. I mean, there are other athletes that are just the same build and the same height, but with Adam everything is awesome but he has the full package. His mental strength is just immense too, plus his race tactics in keeping his technique and power are spot on. His stroke rate is amazing and how he attacks a race is devastating. We talk about these perfect athletes and you think of people like Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky, and Adam is now one of them. He really is in that bracket where he’s different to anyone else. He just loves to race which helps as well."

Which other British men swimmers have a shot at medals in Tokyo?

Rebecca says: "If all four in the British men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay are on their top game then they do have a chance of winning. They are reigning world champions, when Duncan Scott overtook the American in an epic race and we brought home the gold. He goes again, but what helps us enormously is Adam Peaty on the breaststroke leg being so much faster than the rest of the world! It's important we get a solid lead-off leg on the backstroke. We had Luke Greenbank for this at the World Championships and he has posted some great times recently so that's good. James Guy at Butterfly too has been swimming very fast! I'm very excited about this relay.

"James Guy could be near to a medal in the 100m Butterfly individual event, while Luke Greenbank is getting better at the 200m backstroke, breaking the British record recently, and he could be close to medal success. Luke was only edged out by the Russian swimmer Rylov at the recent European Championships, and Rylov is a favourite for Olympic gold at the event. Duncan Scott has just been amazing. He was a surprise fourth in the Rio 100m freestyle but he's now older and doing more events. He's one of the world's best at 200m freestyle so he really has a chance for gold there, and he has a good shot at a medal for the 200m Individual Medley too. I think he enjoys training on different strokes as it's very hard as an athlete to just focus on one thing all the time, and his skills on all strokes are brilliant. Duncan's such a great racer, too. He has a lot of events so he'll need to manage that well throughout the week."

Which of the British women swim stars will be looking for medals?

Rebecca says: "We're looking at Molly Renshaw in the 200m Breaststroke, Freya Anderson in the 200m Freestyle, and Abbie Wood both the 200m Individual Medley an 200m Breaststroke, though the strength in depth for Britain nowadays is amazing, and I'd like to give a shout out to Anna Hopkin the sprint freestyler who could really surprise us!

"Molly Renshaw in particular has kind of always been on the money and obviously she's got so much more experience than in her last Olympics where she came fourth. Molly has a great chance as she's just totally smashed it up this year at her event and has been so impressive. Abbie Wood too could push her in the 200m breaststroke. Abbie has completely burst on to the scene. In the 200m Individual Medley where she takes over the mantle of Siobhan Marie O'Connor who's retired, she's going really well. There are great Medley swimmers in the world and now Abbie is among them! Freya Anderson is a wonderful relay swimmer and in the 200m Freestyle she always comes back so strongly on the last length. So Freya is definitely one to watch."

Which international swimming stars are set to shine in the Tokyo pool?

"I always look forward to Katie Ledecky's races. She really is an American superstar and packs in loads of freestyle events, from 200m all the way to 1500m, which is new at this Games. She's been one of the amazing stars of our sport since winning the 800m at London 2012 and she holds super-fast world records. It's even more exciting this year as she has a big rival in Australia's Ariarne Titmus who'll be pushing Katie all the way, especially in the shorter 200m and 400m. At the Australian trials Ariarne went faster than Katie has been this year. So it's all set for an epic encounter between the two, a real head-to-head battle. I'd say Katie would be slight favourite in the longer distance races.

"America's Caeleb Dressel is going to win a few golds! He's taken over the Michael Phelps mantle as a world icon and in doing multi events, such as the 50m sprint, 100m freestyle plus 100m Butterfly, and he'll be in a lot of the American relays which are always strong. Caeleb has amazing starts and turns too. His skills are so far ahead of everyone else in the world."

Rebecca says: "I love TV work especially when it involves swimming as I'm so passionate about the sport. My main job however is my Learn To Swim programme Becky Adlington Swim Stars. Just to get more and more kids involved in the pool and learning such a crucial skill is so rewarding. So I'll keep hammering on at that as much as I can. But I do love the TV work. Shows like I'm A Celebrity... and Celebrity Masterchef were great. I loved doing them."

It’s nearly time to watch in awe as the men and women competing for gymnastics gold at the Tokyo Olympics twist and fly through the air with incredible precision. This includes one of the Olympics' biggest draws, not just for gymnastics but overall, Simone Biles.

When the Tokyo Olympics were delayed in 2020, there was a worry about what that may mean for Biles, who became a star at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She turned 23 in 2020, which even then was pushing the age that most gymnasts stop competing at the highest level. Now, at 24, Biles is the oldest member of the U.S. gymnasts competing in the team event by four years. Still, she is widely considered the favorite to lead the U.S. to gold once again in the team competition as well as the all-around events, which would arguably make her one of the greatest Olympians ever.

The rest of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team includes Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles and Grace McCallum. Jade Carey and MyKayla Skinner are on the U.S. team but only competing in individual events.

For the boys, the U.S. men’s team is made up of Brody Malone, Yul Moldauer, Sam Mikulak and Shane Wiskus, all of which will compete in the team event, as well as Alec Yoder, who will participate just in individual events.

The team and individual competitions for the Tokyo Olympics are spread out during the two weeks of the games, with qualifications and team finals taking place in the first week and the individual all-around competition set for week two. Peacock will play a big part in NBC’s coverage of gymnastics at the Tokyo Olympics. The streaming service will handle all of the live coverage for the competition, which as reflected in the schedule, will take place in the early morning because of the time difference with Japan. Watching the gymnastics coverage will actually be pretty easy for anyone willing to burn the midnight oil, as it will be available on the free, ad-supported version of Peacock. Though a premium subscription will be needed to watch Olympic basketball coverage.

The NBC flagship network, meanwhile, will replay coverage from the gymnastic events in primetime. Anyone with access to their local NBC station, be it through an antenna, a cable subscription or an vMVPD service (YouTube TV, Fubo TV, Sling TV, Hulu with Live TV) can watch the gymnastics and other Olympics sports covered on NBC during primetime.

Prior to the Opening Ceremony on July 23, there will be three days of competition airing on NBC channels featuring softball, women’s soccer and men’s soccer. But before we dive into softball’s schedule, here’s a quick primer on the countries vying for gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

NBC is handling all of the coverage of the Tokyo Olympics for U.S. audiences across its range of channels. Softball will land on a mix of NBCSN, USA and CNBC, all of which are cable channels that are available through traditional cable subscription packages or with vMVPD services, including YouTube TV, Fubo TV (both of which are offering 4K viewing options for the Olympics), Sling TV and Hulu with Live TV.

The Summer Olympics in Tokyo are a little more than a month away, but Olympic competition is starting to ramp up as the best athletes in the U.S. are readying to take part in the U.S. Olympic Trials.

The Summer Olympics were postponed in 2020 because of the pandemic. While concerns have been raised that the games could still be cancelled because of the lingering dangers of COVID-19, until further notice the Olympics are scheduled to go on as planned from July 23 to Aug. 8.

It’s been a long wait for these athletes. Now, they will have their chance to try and make Team U.S.A.

Fans can enjoy much of the competition from the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will showcase swimming, diving, track & field and gymnastics.

How to watch the U.S. Olympic Trials

NBC, which has been the TV home of the Olympics for U.S. audiences since 1988, is all set to bring the spectacle of the games to audiences once again, starting with the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Through June 27, NBC, NBCSN, The Olympic Channel and Peacock will carry U.S. Olympic Trial events, offering more than 85 hours of content, 50 of which will be in primetime, the most ever, per NBC.

NBC is available to anyone with a basic cable package or who receive their local TV signals through an antenna. If you have cut the cord, vMVPD services like Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV and FuboTV carry live broadcasts of users’ local NBC channels.

U.S. Olympic Trial action will also be carried on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), which is available through cable, many of the same vMVPD services and on NBCsports.com and NBC Sports app, which anyone with access to NBC can stream from.

Folks have always joked that the Friday night television slot is were shows go to die. There was definitely some truth to that prior to the age of the DVR, but things work a bit differently now. Fact of the matter is, there aren't a lot of households that watch any TV live anymore (outside of sports and the uptick in live watches due to everyone being at home).
