Typically we're not crazy about the end of summer arriving, but one silver lining to the change in seasons is the launch of the fall TV slate, which always brings a bevy of new shows to the networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and various cable channels) and streaming services (Apple TV Plus, Hulu, Netflix, Peacock and more).

Fall 2025 is looking to have a solid lineup for viewers, both with a range of new shows and returning favorites. To help you identify some of the biggest comedies, dramas and reality TV series that you should be keeping an eye on, my colleagues Sarabeth Pollock, Terrell Smith and I are offering our most anticipated fall TV shows and why they're must watch.

The Paper (Peacock)

The Office is, without a doubt, one of my favorite shows of all time. If you were to ask my friends, they’d probably tell you I can even quote lines from specific episodes of the series. It’s because of my love for The Office that I’m optimistic about the sequel show, The Paper.

The new mockumentary follows the employees of a dying newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, as they try to deal with job uncertainty along with the ebbs and flows of their personal lives. The concept of The Paper and The Office are similar, I just want the comedy of both shows to be similar as well. — Terrell Smith

The Paper premieres Thursday, September 4, exclusively on Peacock.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 (AMC)

After spending the first two seasons in France, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 is moving to Spain. Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) are still trying to get home and it looks like there could be a path, but it means venturing into Spain. They’ll face new challenges and new threats in addition to the hordes of undead wandering around.

Daryl Dixon will spend the next two seasons in Spain before the series bows at the end of season 4, so fans will be watching to see how Carol and Daryl’s arrival sets up the beginning of the end of their journey. — Sarabeth Pollock

Only Murders in the Building season 5 (Hulu)

It's just not fall without an Only Murders in the Building mystery to solve. Since 2021, the series has probably been my favorite show on TV thanks to their clever mysteries, fantastic writing and directing, great supporting casts, but most importantly the wonderful and hilarious chemistry between stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short.

The show has yet to let me down, which is why I'm stoked to watch Only Murders in the Building season 5, which will attempt to solve who killed the Arconia's doorman Lester, with a host of suspects and new guest stars to choose from.

Only Murders in the Building season 5 premieres Tuesday, September 9, exclusively on Hulu.

High Potential season 2 (ABC)

I started High Potential when it premiered on ABC last fall and loved Kaitlin Olson’s performance as a struggling single mom who has an incredibly high IQ and becomes a consultant for the LAPD, but I got behind on the show and have had to play catch up. But I’m determined to stay up to date with High Potential season 2, as it is probably my most anticipated network TV show this fall.

I'm excited to see Olson’s Morgan Gillroy back on the case, using her unorthodox investigating skills, bantering with her partner (Daniel Sunjata) and trying to unravel what happened to her husband after he mysteriously disappeared years earlier. — Michael Balderston

High Potential season 2 premieres on Tuesday, September 16, on ABC; streams on-demand the following day on Hulu.

Gen V season 2 (Prime Video)

It’s been nearly two years since Gen V premiered, and as a fan of nearly all things The Boys, you can imagine my excitement to see the spinoff series pick up where it left off with Gen V season 2.

With Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Emma (Lizze Broadway) and the other actual “heroes” now portrayed as enemies of Homelander (Antony Starr) and Vought, I’m intrigued to see how the young supes get out of their predicament. On a sadder note, based on the trailer, I get the sense that the real-life death of show star Chance Perdomo, who portrayed Andre, will be handled with care and respect in the new episodes. — Terrell Smith

Gen V season 2 premieres Wednesday, September 17, exclusively on Prime Video.

Love Island Games season 2 (Peacock)

Love Island Games season 2 finally arrives this fall, nearly two years since the first season of the series premiered. Having become a major fan of Love Island USA and just wrapped Love Island USA season 7, the biggest season of the franchise to date, I’m ready to see which past islanders will be competing in the next round of Love Island Games and what romantic connections will be formed.

I’m hoping to see Love Island USA season 5’s Leo and season 7’s Coco, Andreina Santos-Marte and Jeremiah all back on screen in Love Island Games season 2. — Terrell Smith

Reasonable Doubt season 3 (Hulu)

During its tenure on air, Reasonable Doubt has provided a nice fix for my craving for high-octane legal dramas. With Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder and Your Honor, all resting in the annals of TV history, Reasonable Doubt has stepped into the void and is doing an exceptional job showcasing the journey of high-profile attorney Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi).

Since Reasonable Doubt season 2 ended on a cliffhanger in regards to Jax and Lewis (McKinley Freeman) being sued over the death of Lewis’ baby with Toni (Tristan Cunningham), I can't wait to see if this becomes the case Jax is dealt a loss. — Terrell Smith

Reasonable Doubt season 3 premieres Thursday, September 18, exclusively on Hulu.

Chad Powers (Hulu)

Ted Lasso was born from a NBC Sports commercial for the Premier League; is our next great sports comedy going to have similar origins?

Chad Powers stars Glen Powell as a disgraced college quarterback who attempts to get a second chance at glory by donning some makeup and a wig and going by the alias Chad Powers to be a walk-on at a struggling program. The series was inspired by a prank video that featured two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning attend tryouts at Penn State.

Ted Lasso may be lofty expectations, but I’ve been a big fan of just about everything Powell has done in recent years, so count me in on this one. — Michael Balderston

Chad Powers premieres Tuesday, September 30, exclusively on Hulu.

Task (HBO)

Remember how Mare of Easttown, the Kate Winslet-led crime drama, had us all hooked back in 2021? Well, Brad Ingelsby, the creator of Mare of Easttown, is back with another series set in the Philadelphia suburbs.

In Task, Mark Ruffalo stars as an FBI agent who leads a task force created to put an end to a violent string of robberies in the area. There won’t be any mystery for audiences as to who is doing the crimes, as Tom Pelphrey (Outer Range) has been tapped for that role, but the hunt by Ruffalo and his team to take him down has the potential to be pretty compelling TV. And the pedigree of HBO and Ingelsby's last series bodes well. — Michael Balderston

There is no confirmed premiere date for Task at this time, though HBO has confirmed that the series will premiere in September, streaming simultaneously on HBO Max.

Abbott Elementary season 5 (ABC)

Over the past four seasons, Abbott Elementary has absolutely been the best comedy series in my opinion, so, of course, I’m excited for Abbott Elementary season 5. I can’t wait to see Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) take their relationship to the next level, Ava (Janelle James) get reacquainted with her job as principal and what other obstacles the Abbott crew faces as they just try to teach in this modern age. Also, who doesn’t want to see more quirky moments from Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis)? — Terrell Smith

Abbott Elementary season 5 premieres Wednesday, October 1, on ABC; streams on-demand on Hulu the following day.

Nobody Wants This season 2 (Netflix)

If Kristen Bell is in it, I’m usually invested in the project (sans Frozen, which I’ve embarrassingly enough haven’t seen). So when Nobody Wants This debuted last year on Netflix, I quickly powered through the episodes and loved the funny take on opposites attracting and falling in love. She was brilliant as Joanne, an agnostic dating podcaster, falling for Adam Brody’s Noah, a modern rabbi.

In season one, the duo faced a few obstacles as a couple, so I’m left wondering what additional obstacles they may face in season 2, especially given Noah’s promotion in the temple. — Terrell Smith

Nobody Wants This season 2 premieres Thursday, October 23, exclusively on Netflix.

Talamasca: The Secret Order (AMC)

The Anne Rice Immortal Universe is expanding with a brand new spinoff, Talamasca: The Secret Order. Based on the secretive society of observers who keep watch over the world’s supernatural residents, the series will be a spy thriller that sees the agents furtively keeping tabs on witches, vampires and other supernatural beings all over the world.

What we love about this series is that it has the potential for lots of crossovers between Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, so that means we get to see more from our favorite immortals. — Sarabeth Pollock

Talamasca: The Secret Order premieres Sunday, October 26, on AMC and AMC Plus.

Down Cemetery Road (Apple TV Plus)

Slow Horses remains one of my favorite shows on TV, and I’m excited about Slow Horses season 5. However, I’m just a bit more intrigued by the potential of Down Cemetery Road, a new Apple TV Plus series that is based on a book series by Slow Horses author Mick Herron.

Emma Thompson stars as a private investigator who helps Ruth Wilson in the search for a missing young girl, which quickly spirals into a wide-ranging conspiracy.

Premiering right after Slow Horses ends, it could be the perfect complimentary series and another exciting thriller to stream on Apple TV Plus. — Michael Balderston

Down Cemetery Road premieres Wednesday, October 29, exclusively on Apple TV Plus.

The American Revolution (PBS)

2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, so there are going to be plenty of celebrations revolved around that, including probably more than a few TV specials. It’s a little early, but one of those is a PBS documentary series from Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David P. Schmidt, The American Revolution.

Burns has made a name for himself with his in-depth documentaries, including previous ones about the Civil and Vietnam wars. We all know the basics about the American Revolution, but expect for Burns and his co-creators to dive into things that we may never have known about but should not be forgotten. — Michael Balderston

Stranger Things season 5 (Netflix)

At long last, the final season of Stranger Things is here. It’s been more than three years since Stranger Things season 4 set up the end game in the battle between our Hawkins heroes and the Upside Down, so expectations are high for the Duffer Brothers and company to close out the series.

Netflix is making sure that the series is at least getting an epic rollout, with Stranger Things season 5’s eight episodes broken into three parts. The first four premiere in time for Thanksgiving, the next three as a Christmas Day treat, and the Stranger Things finale dropping on New Year’s Eve.

I honestly am having a hard time remembering a series that has had this much anticipation around its finale since Game of Thrones. Here’s hoping they stick the landing better. — Michael Balderston

All Her Fault (Peacock)

When Marissa (Sarah Snook) sends her son on his first playdate, the last thing she thinks is that she’ll never see him again, but when it’s time to pick him up, the woman who answers the door isn’t the same mother she dropped him off with, and what’s more is that the woman has no idea who her son is. So begins All Her Fault, a thriller that portrays a desperate woman living through a parent’s worst nightmare. — Sarabeth Pollock

All’s Fair (Hulu)

When Kim Kardashian dazzled critics with her turn as a devious attorney in American Horror Story: Delicate, Ryan Murphy quickly recruited her for another series he was dreaming up. All’s Fair is the story of a powerful Los Angeles law firm run by women. Kardashian plays the firm’s divorce lawyer who works with her team to get the best deal for her clients.

I'm excited to see this powerhouse cast that includes Kardashian, Glenn Close and Sarah Paulson. — Sarabeth Pollock

Halloween Baking Championship season 11 (Food Network)

Spooky season is on the way and there’s nothing like Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship to get you in the mood to bake up some terrifyingly tasty treats. The series, now in its 11th season, features bakers who let their imaginations run wild as they create some of the most extraordinary confectionary creations ever seen.

Each season has featured special guest stars and fun themes so we’re eager to see what this season has to offer. (If they make a life-size M3GAN doll made of cake we’re out of here! — Sarabeth Pollock

Halloween Baking Championship season 11 premieres this fall on Food Network.

Holiday Touchdown: A Bill’s Love Story (Hallmark Channel)

Hallmark Channel partnered with the NFL in 2024, leading to their crossover film, Holiday Touchdown: A Chief’s Love Story, which premiered during Countdown to Christmas 2024. This season, Hallmark is heading to Buffalo to bring their brand of holiday magic to the Bills Mafia. Holland Roden, Matthew Daddario and Tony Danza star in what’s sure to be a holiday classic for years to come, especially if you’re a Bills fan. The movie will arrive during the 2025 Countdown to Christmas celebration. — Sarabeth Pollock

Holiday Touchdown: A Bill’s Love Story premieres this fall on Hallmark Channel and streams the next day on Hallmark Plus.

Next Level Baker (Fox)

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is taking baking to new heights with Next Level Baker. After the success of Next Level Chef, a cooking competition that features three teams competing on three different levels of a moving set, it makes sense that Ramsay would expand the franchise and add baking.

With cold weather right around the corner, nothing beats a good baking show to help us prepare for the holidays and we’re excited to see how Ramsay puts his unique stamp on the genre. — Sarabeth Pollock

Next Level Baker premieres this fall on Fox.

Grantchester season 11 is on the way, but sadly, the makers have confirmed that it's the last ever series.

Robson Green returns as Geordie with Rishi Nair as Alphy for the final season.

Grantchester season 11 release date

Oddly for a British series, it's likely to air in the US first on PBS on Masterpiece, most probably in the summer of 2026. Filming is about to start in the UK, so that seems a likely timeframe.

The makers tease: "It's the heady Summer of ’63, and Alphy is learning more about his past. He comes to realize that there is a whole other life he could have led, making him question who he is and what he believes in. He’s also continuing to get to know Meg, the Bishop’s daughter…

Human – release date

Human begins in the UK on Monday, July 14 at 9pm on BBC2 and will air weekly, but the whole series will also be available as a box-set from the same day on BBC iPlayer.

It is set to air from Wednesday, September 17 on PBS in the US.

Human – who is Ella Al-Shamahi?

The paleoanthropologist and explorer has previously hosted BBC2’s Neanderthals - Meet Your Ancestors in 2018, in 2020 she hosted Channel 4’s Jungle Mystery: Lost Kingdoms of the Amazon and teamed up with Chris Packham for BBC2’s Waterhole, which looked at wildlife at a reserve in Tanzania. In 2022 she presented Channel 4’s Tutankhamun: Secrets of the Tomb and she has also featured on BBC2’s Our Changing Planet.

Human – what is it about?

The documentary sees Ella Al-Shamahi travel across the globe to a range of archaeological sites where she unveils cutting-edge DNA and fossil discoveries that shed fresh light on our evolution. She also looks at other human species – some of whom lived at the same time as us – and examines why they became extinct but we managed to survive. Meanwhile 3D models, partly created using CGI, reveal what our early ancestors may have looked like and dramatic reconstruction portrays how they may have lived.

Human – episode guide

Episode One: The First Of Us

Ella Al-Shamahi travels to Morocco to look at a fossilised skull from 300,000 years that reveals how homo sapiens is 100,000 years older than previously thought. She also looks at how our adaptability, passing on of knowledge and talent for abstract thinking allowed us to make weapons and withstand crises such as climate change. And in a cave in Botswana, she examines a stone carving that hints at how early humans carried out rituals.

Episode Two: Into the Unknown

This episode reveals how homo sapiens migrated from their original home in Africa around 60,000 years ago to settle in the Middle East and beyond. Ella travels to the Sri Lanka rainforest to see how we lived in the harsh jungle and even hunted monkeys. On the island of Flores in Indonesia, she uncovers more about a tiny human species, homo floresiensis, dubbed the ‘Hobbit’. And she also looks at how we became the first humans to travel across the ocean to Australia 45,000 years ago.

Episode Three: Last Humans Standing

Ella looks at how Neanderthals, our closest relatives, had lived in Europe for nearly 400,000 years, when homo sapiens arrived there almost 55,000 years ago and she unveils how Neanderthals had developed to withstand the cold and how we interbred with them. But by 30,000 years ago, we were the only human species left – did we play a role in Neanderthals’ decline? She also travels to a cave in Spain to see a chilling site where a Neanderthal family was murdered.

Episode Four: Discovering the Americas

Humans first migrated to the Americas during the Ice Age, when it was the last habitable continent. Ella looks at how we hunted giant bears, mammoths and sloths but as the climate shifted, these animals faced extinction so we turned to farming. She also examines fossilised footprints, possibly of a mother and her child, who could have been some of the first settlers in North America.

Episode Five: A Great Gamble

In the final instalment, Ella examines how, around 12,000 years ago, as the Ice Age drew to a close, humans started to make permanent settlements. In Turkey she visits the world’s oldest temple Gobekli Tepe, and an early town, Çatalhöyük, but cramped urban living brought disease and unrest. But in Egypt Ella finds out how cities thrived. And in a turquoise mine in the Sinai desert, she examines how migrant workers created the first alphabet.

Human – interview with Ella Al-Shamahi

The Forsytes is a very famous fictional family saga which has been adapted for television a few times before, most notably for the BBC in 1967.

Now there's a new adaptation of John Galsworthy’s Nobel Prize-winning novel series The Forsyte Saga on its way in 2025 and it has a stellar cast including Francesca Annis, Jack Davenport, Millie Gibson, Eleanor Tomlinson, Danny Griffin and Stephen Moyer.

Written by Poldark’s Debbie Horsfield, it follows four generations of an upper-class family of stockbrokers set against the backdrop of a fast-changing late-Victorian world. The drama also stars Susan Hampshire, OBE, who was in the 1967 series The Forsyte Saga, this time playing Lady Carteret.

The Forsytes season 2 has already been commissioned, so there's confidence that season 1 will be a global.

The Forsytes release date

The Forsytes will launch on 5 (formerly called Channel 5) in the UK on Monday, October 20 at 9pm.

In the US, The Forsytes season 1 is scheduled to premiere as a Masterpiece series on PBS in 2026. Again, we will update with the show's US premiere when we hear.

The Forsytes plot

The Forsytes follows the fictional Forsyte family, which encompasses four generations of upper-class stockbrokers. The older generation are sticklers for tradition and status, prizing duty and reputation above all else, while the younger family members feel constrained by the weight of family expectations.

The question of who will take over the family firm puts Soames Forsyte (Joshua Orpin) and his cousin Jolyon (Danny Griffin) in conflict with one another, just as their lives are turned upside down by two remarkable women. Each family member must decide whether it’s better to follow their heart or their head.

The Forsyte Saga — all about the novels 

The novel series The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy won him the Nobel Prize in 1932 and consisted of three novels and two short stories. It followed the Forsyte family from the late 19th century into the early 20th century.

The saga mainly focussed on Soames Forsyte and his possessive nature and complicated relationship with his wife, the beautiful and independent Irene.

Previous TV adaptations of The Forsyte Saga

The first novel in the saga The Man of Property was adapted into the 1949 film That Forsyte Woman, starring Errol Flynn and Greer Garson.

The new movie is set to pick up in the 1970s - where Call the Midwife season 15 (which is coming to our TV screens in early 2026) - will come to an end. However, series creator and showrunner Heidi Thomas has revealed that our much-loved nuns and midwives might be taking a holiday from Poplar...

Heidi said: "As the classic Call the Midwife series moves further into the 1970s, it also seems the perfect time for our much-loved regulars to take a short break from Poplar and test themselves in an unfamiliar landscape. The rise in hospital births and changes in the NHS have clipped their wings, and this is their chance to take flight and work out what really matters.

"Whilst the location of the film remains top-secret, I can say it is going to look absolutely fantastic on the big screen!”

Eva Yates, Director of BBC Film, added: “Call the Midwife has always brilliantly explored the issues and experiences of women across history and it is with great excitement that we are joining Pippa and Heidi in expanding the Midwife universe to bring these wonderful characters onto the big screen.”

It is a little too early for an official release date for the Call the Midwife movie; however, as it focuses on our current favourites from Poplar, filming will likely start after Call the Midwife season 15 has wrapped up production in the coming months.

Details of the movie location, plot and cinematic adventures of the midwives of Nonnatus House are being kept tightly under wraps, with the official BBC statement stating: "Further details about the film with BBC Film will be released later this year." As soon as anything is announced, we will update this guide.

One thing we do know is that, like the show itself, the movie will be written and produced by Heidi Thomas, the series creator who has helmed the stories of the midwives from the beginning.

We are yet to get a confirmed cast list from the BBC, however, it is thought that lots of our Nonnatus House favourites will be part of the movie.

This could include Helen George as Trixie Aylward, Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne, Linda Bassett as Nurse Phyllis Crane, Rebecca Gethings as Sister Veronica, Georgie Glen as Miss Higgins, Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan, Renee Bailey as Joyce Highland, and Natalie Quarry as Rosalind Clifford.

Molly Vevers joined the cast in Call the Midwife season 14 as Sister Catherine and could be part of the movie.

Stephen McGann could be part of the movie as Doctor Turner, along with Laura Main as his wife Shelagh Turner, and Max Macmillan as their son, Timothy Turner. Alice Brown could also be in the film as Angela Turner, April Rae Hoang as May Turner and Edward Shaw as Teddy Turner.

Other returning characters could be Cliff Parisi as Fred Buckle, Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle, Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson, and Zephryn Taitte as Cyril Robinson.

It is too early to know when the Call the Midwife prequel might arrive, but we do know it is some time away, as filming has not yet started.

With Call the Midwife season 15 pencilled in for January 2026, the prequel is likely to air at some point later that year.

One thing we do know is that it is likely to air on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer in the UK and over on PBS in the US.

Call the Midwife prequel plot

While it is also a little too early to know exact plot details for the spin-off, we do know that it will be set in Poplar during the Blitz.

The new series will add more backstory to the already rich history of the nuns and midwives at Nonnatus House, giving us a chance to see what happened in Poplar before we met the characters in season 1.

Series creator Heidi Thomas said: "The Blitz years in the East End were extraordinary - filled with loss, togetherness, courage and joy. The bombs fell, the babies kept on coming, and the Sisters kept on going."

While the cast for the new series is being kept tightly under wraps for now, Heidi Thomas said: "There will be so much in the prequel for our wonderful, loyal fans, including the appearance of some familiar (if much younger!) faces."

It is unlikely that we will see fan favourites such as Trixie Aylward (Helen George) in the series due to when the series will be set, but other beloved characters could have pivotal roles in the spin-off, like Sister Monica Joan and Sister Julienne. Could we be seeing these much-loved characters as young nuns, doing their midwifery training during the war?

There is also hope that young versions of fan favourites Phyllis Crane and Millicent Higgins could appear in the new series, with Blitz stories of their own.

The BBC has responded to shock reports that Call the Midwife is coming to an end, and it's good news for fans of the much-loved period drama.

Viewers had been left worried about the future of their favourite show after a source reportedly told The Daily Star: "After years of drama and countless births, Call The Midwife is coming to an end. The team has decided it’s time to draw the show to a close and bow out. This is the last we’ll see of these much-loved characters. Storylines will tie up a lot of loose ends."

However, the BBC has been quick to reassure fans, releasing a statement confirming that the show isn't going anywhere.

It was announced this morning, Thursday, June 26: "The BBC would like to reassure fans that Call The Midwife will remain at the heart of the BBC for years to come. As previously announced, there are two Christmas specials, a new series, a film and prequel series, before a sixteenth series in due course. Call the Midwife isn’t going anywhere.”

As fans will already know, filming for Call the Midwife season 15 is well underway, and as part of the new series, we will also be treated to two Christmas specials later this year.

It was announced back in May that the world of Call the Midwife would be expanding with an official statement revealing we would be getting a spin-off set during the Blitz, plus a new movie.

The BBC said at the time: "In an exciting new development, the world of Nonnatus House will also be expanding. A prequel TV series set in Poplar during World War Two will be made for the BBC in 2026.

"In addition, Neal Street, in development with BBC Film, are producing a Call the Midwife film. This will be set overseas in 1972 and feature iconic characters from the existing TV show."

Details of this year's festive special were also announced, revealing that the show would be going beyond Poplar and overseas: "A two-part Christmas Special, set in Hong Kong and Poplar, will be followed by eight new hour-long episodes set in the East End, coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One from January 2026.

"When senior members of the Nonnatus House staff head to Hong Kong on a mercy mission, the younger midwives are left to cope alone. As the Christmas action shifts between the sun-drenched Far East and a snowy East End, Sister Julienne suddenly finds herself excited about the Order’s future. After years of battling change, she decides to embrace it, work with it, and see what love can do.

"This change of energy reverberates throughout series 15. The new series kicks off in 1971 with several of the ladies embracing Women’s Lib and burning their bras outside Nonnatus House. As the year unfolds, we see the team handle cases including premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis and slavery."

All episodes of Call the Midwife seasons 1-14 are available on BBC iPlayer and the new season of the show will land at Christmas 2025.

Adapted from the critically acclaimed French series Astrid, British crime drama Patience is making its stateside debut tonight after premiering across the pond on Channel 4 this past January.

Airing on PBS this Sunday, June 15 at 8pm Eastern Time, the intriguing detective drama stands out from recent entries in the genre because it centers on Patience Evans (played by autistic actress Ella Maisy Purvis), a young woman with autism who works in the York Criminal Records Office. Her life changes when seasoned Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) recognizes Patience's unique powers of deduction and asks her to join her investigative team.

Along with gripping criminal cases that will surely titillate both true-crime enthusiasts and mystery fans alike, the drama series offers a thoughtful and authentic portrayal of autism. "As Bea learns more about Patience’s traumatic upbringing and how autism affects her life, the two women form an unlikely friendship and a formidable partnership," reads the official series description.

Along with Ella Maisy Purvis and Laura Fraser, the Patience cast includes actors Nathan Welsh, Mark Benton, Ali Ariaie, Tom Lewis, Liza Sadovy, Adrian Rawlins, Jamie Maclachlan, Lotte Lauren, Connor Curren, Maxwell Whitelock and Eddie Elks. Kicking off with tonight's premiere episode, entitled "Paper Mountain Girl, Part 1," the six-part series was created by Matt Baker (Hotel Portofino), who wrote or co-wrote all six installments, with Maarten Moerkerke in the director's chair for all of the episodes. A second season has already been picked up, with filming underway last month.

Back for its 36th year, The National Memorial Day Concert will honor the military service and sacrifice of the men and women in the U.S. armed forces with uplifting performances, documentary footage, dramatic readings and more tonight on PBS.

Airing Sunday, May 25 ahead of Memorial Day, from 8pm to 9:30pm Eastern Time on PBS, The National Memorial Day Concert has become an American tradition and one of PBS’ highest-rated programs over the years, uniting viewers across the country in remembrance and appreciation of those who gave their lives for our freedoms and serves those who are grieving.

It is an exciting time to be a Call the Midwife fan because not only has filming for Call the Midwife season 15 officially begun, but it has also been announced that we will be getting a prequel spin-off series... and a movie!

The series, which has been on our screens since 2012, is back in production with the Call the Midwife Christmas specials for 2025, but along with this exciting news comes the announcement that the rumoured prequel is definitely going ahead and will be set during the Blitz.

Not only this, but our Poplar favourites are heading to the big screen for a movie which will be set in a mystery location in 1972.

Call the Midwife season 15 is on the way, and we now have official news that filming for the new series is underway.

The show's social media team is always great at keeping fans up to date with the latest behind-the-scenes news, and they recently shared a picture of the cast as filming for the 2025 Call the Midwife Christmas special got underway.

Call the Midwife season 15 will see us reunited with all our Nonnatus House favourites for another series - but eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot that not everyone from the cast was in the photo.

The image sees the cast smiling on the steps of Nonnatus House, dressed in warm winter clothes, despite the image caption revealing that, as always, it was a heatwave as filming for the festive episodes began.

The picture has sparked joy for fans knowing their favorite show is on the way back to our screens, but also concern for some fans as a few familiar faces are missing from the line-up, including Zephryn Taitte as Cyril and Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan.

Of course, this doesn't mean the characters won't be in the new series, and it is likely that not everyone in the cast was available for the first picture of the series.

The caption for the social media post seems to confirm this by saying: "We are delighted to announce the commencement of filming for our fifteenth series of Call the Midwife – and this year our traditional first-scene clapperboard shot is something a bit special, with a fine group of cast members present for the start of Christmas Special recording!"

With the new series finally on the way, all we have to do now is wait as patiently as we can for Christmas!

The Count Of Monte Cristo is a famous 19th-century novel by French author Alexandre Dumas, telling a classic tale of revenge. Now, British stars Sam Claflin (Daisy Jones & The Six) and Jeremy Irons (House of Gucci) are heading up this new series adaptation. Sam takes on the role of Edmond Dantes, who plots revenge after being wrongly accused of treason, while Jeremy is the priest, Abbé Faria.

The Count Of Monte Cristo is an eight-part period drama series that starts in the UK on U&Drama at 9pm on Saturday August 2 2025, as well as UKTV's streaming service U.

We'll update with the exact air date when we hear, plus with its US release date on PBS and WGBH. The Count of Monte Cristo has already played out on Italy’s RAI-1 and will be available on various European broadcasters, including TVE in Spain, RTS in Switzerland, and the Nordic PSB alliance (comprising SVT, NRK, DR, YLE, and RUV).

Additionally, the show is set to air in Eastern European regions, including Poland through TVP, Hungary via TV2, and the Czech Republic on Ceska TV.

The Count of Monte Cristo plot 

The Count of Monte Cristo is an epic story that follows young sailor Edmond Dantes who is falsely accused of a crime he didn’t commit.

He spends 14 years on a grim prison island fortress called Château d’If, just off Marseilles, but eventually escapes and becomes rich beyond his wildest dreams.

Edmond then assumes the identity of the wealthy and enigmatic Count of Monte Cristo to seek revenge against the men who wronged him.

Sam plays the wronged sailor Edmond Dantes, aka The Count, who is looking for revenge. 

"Edmond’s obviously a very disciplined man," Sam told us. "He’s blindsided by hate, anger and rage, but leans to control it enough not to lash out. He’s very patient and cunning.

"I loved working alongside Jeremy, he brought so much energy and playfulness to the scenes. He’s a legend, and he’s been an idol of mine for years and years. It was a dream come true, being in close proximity to a star like that."

The series was filmed in a variety of locations across France, Italy and Malta, and Sam found the opening sequence, in which Edmond takes command of his ship during a violent storm, to be one of the most challenging scenes he’s ever had to film.

"It was a very cold day, and we had rain machines as well as wind machines,’ he recalls. ‘We were all drenched, and you would have the wind blasting in your face to the point where you couldn’t hear anyone. Blake and I had a sequence over the helm where we were screaming at each other, so I just had to wait until his mouth stopped moving and then I was like, “OK, I think it’s my line now!'"

He’s also stared in Brideshead Revisited, The Borgias, House of Gucci, Munich: The Edge of War, Assassin’s Creed, Justice League, Red Sparrow, Lolita, The Merchant of Venice and Dead Ringers.

He voices Scar in The Lion King movies and did BBC children's series Play Away in the 1970s.

The Count of Monte Cristo is an epic adventure novel by French author Alexandre Dumas and was serialised from 1844 to 1846 and then published as a book in 1846. It follows Edmond, a young sailor who is accused of treason on his wedding day, then falsely imprisoned without trial.

He is mentored by an elderly priest who tells him about a cache of treasure he discovered. On his escape, Edmond finds the treasure and then reinvents himself to seek revenge amidst the fashionable Parisian world of the 1830s.

Alexandre Dumas also wrote The Three Musketeers and The Man In The Iron Mask, both of which were turned into numerous Hollywood movies.

Previous screen adaptations of The Count of Monte Cristo

The Count of Monte Cristo has sparked countless adaptations, from the 1908 silent movie starring Hobart Bosworth to last year’s movie with Pierre Niney.

The 2002 film boasted a cast including Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce and Henry Cavill while the 1998 miniseries starred Gerard Depardieu.

On October 17, 1974, country-music legend Willie Nelson kicked off the pilot episode of PBS's Austin City Limits with a rendition of his classic "Whiskey River." And to celebrate the golden jubilee of the trailblazing live music series, PBS is airing one heck of a concert tonight: Austin City Limits Celebrates 50 Years premieres tonight, April 4 at 9pm Eastern Time on PBS.

Hosted by Austin-based actors Jared and Genevieve Padalecki (Walker, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls), the two-hour concert special — which was filmed on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at ACL’s studio home, ACL Live at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin — will see some of the brightest stars in the show’s five-decade history return to the fabled ACL stage.

The wait for Call the Midwife season 14 to land in the US is finally over, and this season is bigger and better than ever, with a new arrival at Nonnatus House, wedding drama, and a Lucille-shaped twist that will leave fans shocked.

After the Call the Midwife Christmas 2024 specials aired over the holidays, it has been a bit of a wait for US fans of the show to find out what will happen next with our Nonnatus House favourites.

The holiday specials saw the series return in style with Trixie returning from New York, Reggie going missing and panic for Nonnatus House as the building's future was thrown into jeopardy.

But now, as season 14 catches up with the residents of Poplar in 1970, we are set to see Nancy and Roger's romance blossom as they plan their future together. Nancy is given a lot to think about when she gets a letter from Netherditch Hospital who have offered her the same job there with cottage accommodation that they offered her 18 months ago.

Could this be the chance of a fresh start for the couple, along with Nancy's daughter, Collette?

What happened to Lucille in Call the Midwife and has she left for good?

Elsewhere in episode 1, Trixie is thrown in at the deep end when Sister Julienne reveals that the Board of Health has declared war on Nonnatus House because they don't like that the order are religious sisters - but can Trixie change their minds?

There is also a spark between Cyril and Rosalind when she arrives at the council offices with some paperwork and he tells her that they are looking for volunteers at the local homeless shelter.

Rosalind suggests that she might put her name down, mainly to get out of Cubs duty with Nurse Crane and Miss Higgins, and the pair seem to relish the idea of spending more time together.

Let's just say season 14 spends a joyous amount of time focusing on Rosalind and Cyril, but as always, there is a Lucille-shaped elephant in the room. We won't spoil the twist, but even though she left two seasons ago, Lucille is still very much on Cyril's mind in this series.

This season is set to bring fans of the show everything they love about the series - heartfelt moments, gripping drama, and, of course, an abundance of babies! This is definitely a season not to be missed.

It's been ten years since Damian Lewis and Mark Rylance popped up as Henry VIII and Thomas Cromwell, respectively, in the historical drama Wolf Hall, which aired on PBS in the states and BBC Two across the pond. And tonight, the eagerly awaited follow-up Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light will premiere on PBS MASTERPIECE Sundays to catch you up on all of the period-piece drama that's been going down in the Tudor court.

To catch you up — it has been a decade, after all — the Peabody- and Golden Globe-winning Wolf Hall miniseries is the TV adaptation of Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall novels, with the second season bringing the events of the final book of the trilogy, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, to the screen. The six-part first series documented the rapid rise to power of Thomas Cromwell (Rylance) in the court of Henry VIII (Lewis), with the lawyer becoming a close adviser to the king as he worked to free the royal of his marriage to Anne Boleyn (played by The Crown star Claire Foy).

"The TV sequel picks up in May 1536 after the beheading of Anne Boleyn and follows the last four years of Thomas Cromwell’s life, completing his journey from self-made man to the most feared and influential figure of his time. These are years when Henry’s regime is severely tested by religious rebellion at home, traitors plotting abroad and the threat of invasion," per PBS. "Cromwell must deftly navigate the moral complexities that accompany the exercise of power in this bloody time; he’s caught between his desire to do what’s right and his instinct to survive. The question is: how long can anyone survive under Henry’s brutally mercurial gaze?"

Joining Oscar winner Mark Rylance and Emmy winners Damian Lewis and Claire Foy in the Wolf Hall season 2 cast are Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Wolsey, Kate Phillips as Henry’s third wife Jane Seymour, Lilit Lesser as Henry's daughter Princess Mary, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Rafe Sadler, Joss Porter as Richard Cromwell, James Larkin as Master Treasurer Fitzwilliam, Richard Dillane as the Duke of Suffolk, Will Keen as Archbishop Cranmer, and Hannah Steele as Mary Shelton. And new to the cast this time around are Alex Jennings, Harriet Walter and Timothy Spall.

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light will air on MASTERPIECE Sunday nights on PBS at 9pm Eastern Time from tonight, March 23 through April 20. To tune in, you're going to need access to PBS. Call the Midwife season 15 has officially started filming and, after a drama-packed ending to Call the Midwife season 14, fans are desperate to know what will happen to our Nonnatus House favorites next.

In an exciting new development, the world of Nonnatus House is expanding. A prequel TV series set in Poplar during World War Two will be made for the BBC in 2026. In addition, we are also getting a Call the Midwife film, which will be set overseas in 1972 and feature iconic characters from the existing TV show.

The new projects will be written, created and produced by the formidable, all-female team behind the hugely successful current hit TV show, showrunner Heidi Thomas, and executive producers Pippa Harris and Ann Tricklebank. Season 16 had also been teased, with the writing and producing team working on another season 'in due course'.

We also know that the new series will begin with a two-part Christmas Special set in Hong Kong and Poplar - so here is everything you need to know about Call the Midwife season 15...

Call the Midwife season 15 release date

It is too early for an official release date to be announced, but we do know the new season of Call the Midwife begins with two Christmas specials, followed by eight new hour-long episodes set in the East End and transmitting from January 2026 on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

All past seasons are available to stream on BBC iPlayer now, and as soon as we have an official release date, we will add it to this guide.

In the US, the series will premiere on PBS and the PBS App later in 2026.

Call the Midwife season 15 plot

The official synopsis for season 15 says: "When senior members of the Nonnatus House staff head to Hong Kong on a mercy mission, the younger midwives are left to cope alone. As the Christmas action shifts between the sun-drenched Far East and a snowy East End, Sister Julienne suddenly finds herself excited about the Order’s future. After years of battling change, she decides to embrace it, work with it, and see what love can do.

"This change of energy reverberates throughout series 15. The new series kicks off in 1971 with several of the ladies embracing Women’s Lib and burning their bras outside Nonnatus House. As the year unfolds, we see the team handle cases including premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis and slavery."

There is hope there could be more happiness on the way for Rosalind and Cyril as their romance goes from strength to strength, Trixie is likely to continue juggling her life on both sides of the Atlantic as she follows her calling as a midwife in Poplar as well as work on her marriage to Matthew, who is living in New York.

Speaking of the new series, spin off and movie, Heidi Thomas OBE, creator and writer, says: “The opening of new doors at Nonnatus House feels profoundly emotional, and yet just right. I have never run out of stories for our midwives, and I never will. But having wept, laughed, and raged my way from 1957 to 1971, I found myself yearning to delve into the deeper past.

"The Blitz years in the East End were extraordinary - filled with loss, togetherness, courage and joy. The bombs fell, the babies kept on coming, and the Sisters kept on going. There will be so much in the prequel for our wonderful, loyal fans, including the appearance of some familiar (if much younger!) faces.

"As the classic Call the Midwife series moves further into the 1970s, it also seems the perfect time for our much-loved regulars to take a short break from Poplar and test themselves in an unfamiliar landscape. The rise in hospital births, and changes in the NHS, have clipped their wings, and this is their chance to take flight and work out what really matters. Whilst the location of the film remains top-secret, I can say it is going to look absolutely fantastic on the big screen!”

Helen George is confirmed to be back as Trixie Aylward as the character continues to split her time between Poplar and New York, where her husband, Matthew Aylward lives now.

Jenny Agutter is returning as Sister Julienne with Linda Bassett back as Nurse Phyllis Crane, Rebecca Gethings as Sister Veronica, Georgie Glen as Miss Higgins, Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan, Renee Bailey as Joyce Highland and Natalie Quarry as Rosalind Clifford.

Molly Vevers joined the cast in episode 4 of season 14 as Sister Catherine. She is now a fully fledged member of the Order after taking her vows and is returning for the new season.

One cast member who won't be returning is Megan Cusack after she announced ahead of the season 14 finale that she would be bowing out of the show as Nancy Corrigan after 4 years in the role.

This means Francesca Fullilove is departing as Nancy's daughter, Colette Corrigan and newcomer Conor O'Donnell is also leaving as Roger Nobel, Nancy's new husband.

"Sometimes, you've got to step out of your comfort zone to grow," Megan told Radio Times. "I've learned so much, but I'm at the start of my career and I need to take a leap of faith. "It's bittersweet, really, but I've made lifelong friendships there and I get to take those with me."

It is yet to be revealed exactly how Nancy's exit will play out. In the season finale she got married and had a second baby, so with her new job taking her away from Poplar, it is thought she might just continue her new life off-screen. There is always hope for a surprise return in the future, though, so watch this space!

Stephen McGann is back as Doctor Turner along with Laura Main as his wife Shelagh Turner and Max Macmillan as their son, Timothy Turner. Alice Brown is also back as Angela Turner, April Rae Hoang as May Turner and Edward Shaw as Teddy Turner.

Cliff Parisi is back as Fred Buckle, along with Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle and Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson.

Zephryn Taitte is also back as Cyril Robinson as his fledgling romance with Rosalind gets underway. There is no news on whether his former wife, Lucille Robinson, played by Leonie Elliott, will return after her exit in Call the Midwife season 12, but with their divorce now underway, it is looking unlikely.

What happened at the end of Call the Midwife season 14?

The season finale for Call the Midwife season 14 saw wedding bells ringing in Poplar as Nancy and Roger's big day arrived, but there was an extra special surprise when Nancy arrived back in Poplar and revealed she was seven months pregnant! Despite wanting to hide her pregnancy until after she was married, the baby had other ideas and Nancy soon found herself giving birth to a baby daughter in the back of an ambulance with Nurse Crane on hand to help.

Elsewhere, Cyril and Rosalind also got their happy ever after when they shared their first kiss, and Sister Catherine said her vows to God and she was officially welcomed into the Order. But trouble loomed as local councils withdrew their funding to the Order, leaving the future of Nonnatus House under threat.

Here is everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 14 episode 8...

The season finale opens with Nancy coming back to Poplar with Roger for their wedding... however, their plans to stay at Nonnatus House are ruined when a local mother and baby unit has a fire and lots of young mums and babies have to come and stay at the house temporarily. Instead, Miss Higgins welcomes Nancy and Colette into her home with open arms and she is excited about the prospect of a wedding to celebrate.

One of the young mums that are brought to Nonnatus House is schoolgirl Paula from earlier in the series, and she is almost at her due date. However, she isn't at the house for long becasue Doctor Turner diagnoses her with a bladder infection and anemia so she is sent to the maternity home, and Sister Monica Joan is left to look after Paula's pet hamsters. Sister Veronica visits Paula's mother to ask if she would consider having her home again, but she is adamant she won't see her daughter until the baby has been born and adopted.

As Nancy is being fitted for her wedding dress, Violet is shocked to see she is carrying a bit of extra weight and comments that most brides lose weight before the wedding and not gain it... Nancy sheepishly admits that she is seven months pregnant, leaving Miss Higgins and Violet surprised but thrilled for her.

Soon Phyillis comes over to share in the happy news and the women vow to keep the secret between them as Nancy doesn't want the news getting out before she is married. Not only is she worried about what the nuns might think, but she is also yet to tell Colette that she is going to be a big sister. Nancy is embarrassed that she didn't know she was in the family way at first, especially becasue she is a nurse.

At the maternity home, Paula's father comes to visit her, and he admits that her mother doesn't know he is there. Later, Paula is scared when she hears another mother going into labour and Rosalind tells Doctor Turner that she thinks she might be better somewhere else. He suggests the Mother House, which is also a registered orphanage. Rosalind goes with Paula to help her settle in, but before she leaves she heads to see Sister Veronica for Paula's medical notes and finds her talking with Cyril, and Sister Veronica sees sparks fly between Cyril and Rosalind.

Also heading off to the Mother House are Sister Catherine and Sister Julienne, who are going there for Sister Catherine's vows. Once there, Sister Hilda welcomes them and breaks the news that Sister Elizabeth, who was meant to be taking her vows with Sister Catherine has left the order and so Sister Catherine will be taking her vows alone. Sister Catherine is disappointed, but on the plus side, she gets the first pick of all the wedding dresses.

Roger and Nancy meet to talk about their wedding and wonder how to break the news about the baby to Collette... they come up with a plan together and the following day and, although the plan doesn't quite go smoothly, Collette is happy that she is going to have a sibling and they all celebrate.

That evening Reggie finally gets delivery of a vase he made at school for Nancy's wedding present. But as he is walking home with it, a gang of boys start bullying him and he drops it while he falls over. Thankfully Geoffery is there to chase the boys away, but sadly the vase is broken.

Sister Catherine tries to choose the wedding dress she is going to wear for her vows and Sister Hilda is very opinionated about what she should be wearing, telling her chiffon sleeves aren't for November!

Over dinner, Sister Hilda tells Sister Julienne that Poplar isn't the only place that has found its funding dwindling as it is happening at branches all over the country and that Mother Mildred has sold the Mother House's orchard and kitchen gardens to property developers to cover their financial shortfalls. Sister Hilda predicts they will all end up going abroad to become missionaries, but Sister Julienne wonders what will happen to Sister Catherine, who is by far the youngest of the nuns.

Nancy's hen night arrives and she spends the whole evening trying to hide her pregnancy while everyone else enjoys some hula hooping. The following morning she isn't feeling well and complains of an upset stomach. She is convinced it is the curry she ate the night before, but Phyllis checks her over and is convinced that she might be more than 7 months pregnant. Nancy dismisses the idea, but her twinges of pain are worrying.

The following day Rosalind goes with Paula on a trip to the seaside as it is close to the Mother House, and it is in the same place that Sister Catherine reunites with her own sister, Helen, who has come to see her take her vows and she is thrilled to see her. They talk about their difficult childhood becasue of their father - so when Helen tells Sister Catherine that their father gave her the money for the train fare as he wanted someone to be with her when she took her vows, Sister Catherine is touched. The sisters dance on the beach and Sister Julienne sees them together and smiles.

As Trixie heads back to America to be a bridesmaid for one of Matthew's friends, back at Miss Higgins' house Nancy is in labour but luckily Phyllis is on hand to call an ambulance.

Paula's father turns up at the maternity home to see her and is shocked to learn she has been moved to the Mother House. At home, he talks to his wife about bringing her home, but she is adamant that they have done the right thing by signing her care over to the council and she can come home again when the baby has been born.

In the back of the ambulance Nancy's in full labour and nothing is stopping this baby from coming - Phyllis goes into full nurse mode and juggles helping her friend through her labour and keeping Roger calm, who is panicking enough for all three of them. Soon the baby arrives and Nancy welcomes a new daughter into the world. At the hospital, Phyllis tells Nancy that her baby was no more than a few weeks early and weighs a respectable 5lb. Colette is thrilled to meet her sister and asks Roger if she can call him daddy, which makes him happy.

Rosalind wakes to find Paula is in labour. Doctor Turner is worried about whether Paula's young body will be able to cope with the labour and decides to go to the Mother House to help Rosalind. Sister Veronica and Sister Monica Joan hitch a ride with him and Sister Catherine is thrilled to see Sister Monica Joan there for her special day.

As Sister Catherine makes her vows to God with the Order and her own sister watching on proudly, Paula is in the full throws of labour and after a lot of help from Rosalind, Sister Julienne and Doctor Turner she safely delivers a baby boy. Her parents are told of the news, but when Paula's father asks to speak to her, all she can do is sob down the phone.

Back in Poplar, Reggie is thrilled when Geoffery comes to the house with his mended vase for Nancy's wedding... he has had it fixed with melted gold and everyone agrees it looks even more beautiful now than ever.

At the Mother House Rosalind and Cyril talk about Paula's baby and what will become of him as her parents arrive. Her mother has finally had a change of heart and realises that she hasn't dealt with her daughter's pregnancy in the best way, and is moved when she meets her grandson for the first time, asking for reassurance from Cyril that he will go to a good family. Eventually, Paula is reunited with her parents and she goes home, ready to start her childhood again.

The time has come for Nancy and Roger to tie the knot, and even the rain in Poplar isn't enough to dampen the celebrations. As everyone cheers Nancy into the wedding car, Cyril gets caught in the moment and finally pulls Rosalind in for their first kiss.

Roger is full of love as he watches Nancy walk down the aisle, with Miss Higgins on her arm to give her away. There isn't a dry eye in the room as the pair say their vows, and before they head to the wedding party they make a stop at the hospital to see their new baby, who they have called Melinda.

At the wedding party, everyone is in a great mood, and there are balloons and sparklers, just as Nancy wanted. Reggie's fixed vase takes pride of place on the buffet table as Phyllis takes photos of everyone having a good time. Another season of Call the Midwife has come to an end with a warm fuzzy feeling, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Now we have reached the spring of 1970 and we have a new midwife arriving at Nonnatus House.

Here is everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 14 episode 7...

The penultimate episode opens in October 1970 and Phyllis is returning from her holiday in Devon, but on the way home she has a puncture in her car tyre. Luckily, Miss Higgins is on hand to offer her a lift to work, and she is thrilled when Phyllis reveals she has bought her some fudge back from her holidays.

Things aren't quite as happy for Joyce, however, as she reveals she has been given a date for her disciplinary hearing. It seems Bernie Midgley's complaint has been upheld but Sister Julienne vows to fight it every step of the way. She tells Joyce that Doctor Turner and Sister Catherine will both make witness statements and that she will be there to give her a glowing character reference.

Cyril comes to Fred's shop to ask if he sells shoelaces. He explains he needs to look smart because he is going to a film premiere for Bronco Bullfrog, and there will be royalty there as Princess Anne is also attending. Fred says he and Violet are also going as the movie was filmed in Poplar, and when he asks Cyril how many tickets he has got, he says two but remains tight-lipped about who will be his plus one.

Mr and Mrs Berridge - Jacqui and Lawrence - come to the antenatal clinic with their young daughter, but Jacqui has low blood pressure and her baby is small for the dates she has given them. Jacqui fobs them off and leaves the clinic without giving a urine sample, but Shelagh is worried and tells Sister Catherine that Jacqui and her husband, Lawrence, both used to take heroin in the past and that it might have something do to with the baby being small and her reluctance to do a urine sample. They decide to do a house call the next day to make sure they check Jacqui properly.

Ellen Brisco's son, Mark, comes to see Violet and asks for his mother's order of hygiene pads, and as he arrives home he seems happy to see Phyllis has come for a house visit after Ellen swapped her old GP back to Doctor Turner again after leaving a few years earlier.

Lawrence attends a clinic with Doctor Turner who has got him on a programme where he is taking methadone to try and beat his heroin addiction. Lawrence talks about how he and Jacqui have got themselves a new council house and have a second baby on the way, and he seems happy and collects his methadone for the week. He thanks Doctor Turner for putting him on the programme as he didn't think he would be here a year ago.

At the house, Sister Catherine and Shelagh visit Jacqui and when they go to take her blood pressure they find that she has marks on her arm where she has been taking heroin. She claims to be fine, but they know she is lying but eventually, she admits the truth and says she has been hiding the fact she is using again from her husband.

Nurse Crane visits Ellen who says she can't walk to the toilet so that is why she has a commode... Phyllis comments on what a lovely son she has, and Ellen is shocked when she suggests that one day Mark will get married and move out. Ellen is adamant that her son will live with her forever, even when he meets a wife.

Doctor Turner meets Jacqui and tells her that because she has been taking drugs while she has been pregnant her baby will be born accustomed to having heroin in its bloodstream. He wants to help by giving her controlled injections of a different opioid so that they can wean her and the baby off the heroin gently, but Jacqui is adamant she doesn't want any more drugs in her system and she will go cold turkey like she did before. Doctor Turner is concerned that she won't accept the help and it isn't long until Lawrence finds out what his wife has been up to, and he is upset that she lied, especially when he has been working hard to get clean for their daughter, Kerry.

Rosalind and Cyril meet in a cafe and admit to one another that they have been looking forward to their date all day - he asks her along to the Bronco Bullfrog film gala and she is thrilled.

There are celebrations in the Turner house that evening because the final adoption papers are through for May and Shelagh and Patrick will be going to the magistrates court the following day to sign them, meaning May will officially be adopted at last.

Violet gets a call from the Gazette and is shocked to learn that the Bronco Bullfrog movie doesn't paint Poplar in the glowing light that everyone thought it would, and she invites Trixie along, trying to get as many respectable residents of the local area at the premiere as possible.

Sister Julienne calls Sister Catherine into her office and says she has spoken to their Superior, Mother Mildred, and they have decided that they would like her to take her first vows and become a novice in the order. She is thrilled and can't wait to join the order.

Mark goes for a medical check with Doctor Turner becasue he is applying for the Royal Army Medical Corps - telling Doctor Turner he has always had an interest in nursing becasue of looking after his mum. Nurse Crane is surprised to see Mark at the surgery and he begs her not to tell his mum, as he hasn't yet told her about joining the army. When Nurse Crane gets to Ellen's later that day, she has to let herself in with the key on a string because Mark is out, but when she gets through the front door she sees Ellen up and walking about, despite having claimed she was bed-bound. When Phyllis asks her about being up and about, Ellen denies knowing what she is talking about.

Jacqui is at the hospital struggling with her withdrawal from heroin - but as she gets further into her struggle Sister Catherine and Shelagh realise she is also in labour. She refuses to have gas and air becasue she doesn't want any more drugs, but when her waters break Shelagh realises there is meconium in the waters, meaning the baby is in distress.

Jacqui has a baby boy, and although it is touch and go when he is not breathing, Doctor Turner works his magic and soon he is crying like a newborn should. Jacqui is upset when Shelagh tells her that the baby has to go to St Cuthberts becasue of his drug dependency. She tells her husband, Lawrence, that she would like to call their baby Michael after her estranged dad, and he is reluctant but agrees. As Michael is taken away, Jacqui is sad she has to stay at the maternity home where she needs looking after as she is still battling her own drug dependency.

Cyril finds Joyce at the docs where she is down about the case against her. He says he is sorry about what she is going through and that it sounds like a clear case of racial prejudice to him, and they both share their struggles with coming the the UK and the difficulties they have faced since they arrived becasue of the colour of their skin.

Mark brings his mum to the surgery, but she makes a big scene about getting down the stairs and into the taxi, pretending that she can't walk. When they get to the surgery, she refuses to get out of the taxi, so Doctor Turner, having been briefed by Phyllis, tells Ellen he will have to examine her in the taxi if needs be.

Doctor Turner tells Ellen that there is no reason why she can't walk and she gets distressed, telling Mark that everyone is calling her a liar and ignoring her symptoms. But Doctor Turner is adamant she doesn't have any symptoms and encourages Mark to tell his mother about his army interview the following day so that it might make her realise she can't depend on him all the time.

Catherine is shocked when she gets to Jacqui's room and finds she has gone. Miss Higgins calls the hospital and finds that Jacqui has been seen leaving St Cuthberts with her husband, but that baby Michael is in the special care baby unit, where he should be.

Sister Catherine is struggling with everything that has happened with Jacqui and the fact her family cut her off because of the path she chose, just like Sister Catherine's own family did when she became a nun. She is sorry that her calling from God has caused her family so much pain, but Sister Monica Joan is on hand to reassure her that she is doing the right thing.

While Trixie and Rosalind are getting excited about the film premiere, Joyce gets cross with them both, saying she can't think about a night out when she has her job, her reputation and her home on the line thanks to this hearing coming up. Rosalind and Trixie realise they have been insensitive, so they clean and press Joyce's uniform for her hearing and shine her shoes as a sorry, and tell her that she will always have friends in them, whatever happens.

Mark tells his mum that he has an interview for the army and she is shocked, thinking that the secret he was hiding is that he had a lady friend. He tells her that he will be going to Aldershot to train for 16 weeks before he is posted somewhere, maybe overseas. She doesn't take the news well at all, telling him that she won't be accused of standing in his way, and yells at him to get out.

Sister Veronica and Sister Catherine go to see Jacqui, but although she is looking better she is despondent and doesn't seem to be taking care of little Kerry. Sister Veronica tells her that Cyril has been assigned as their social worker and how nice he is, but Jacqui says they don't need one as she is off drugs and her husband is working now.

May goes with Shelagh and Patrick to the magistrates court to sign the adoption papers and all goes well, and May is officially part of the Turner family at last, leaving everyone thrilled.

Nurse Crane gets to Ellen's house and finds her on the floor having fallen down the stairs, however, there isn't a scratch on her and by some miracle she didn't spill a drop of the tea that she was carrying when she 'fell' down the stairs. Nurse Crane sees through Ellen's attempts to stop Mark from joining the army, and decides she needs to intervene. Phyllis finds Mark at work and explains what has been going on with his mother, so when he gets home, he tells them they need to talk. He tells her that he will take the army job if he gets it and asks for her blessing. Phyllis tells Ellen that she will miss Mark but she won't lose him, and this could be a time for her to focus on doing something for herself.

Lawrence gets home and is shocked to find Jacqui has sold her wedding ring to pay for more drugs. He is cross and tries to throw it away, but she begs him not to and asks him to take it with her, like she did with him in the past. He tries to resist as he has been working so hard to get clean, but there is tragedy ahead when Sister Veronica and Cyril arrive the next day to see the family and they have to break down the door to get to Kerry. When they get in, they find Lawrence and Jacqui on the bed, both having overdosed and sadly dead. Doctor Turner and Sister Veronica are devastated for little Kerry and her newborn brother, Michael, and say they will have to trace the children's grandparents.

Joyce and Sister Julienne head off for her hearing and Joyce is very nervous about what might happen. At the hearing, she stands her ground, explains everything that happened, and is eventually told the happy news that she has been exonerated of all wrongdoing and there will be no further investigations into the case against her.

Ellen is clearing things for a jumble sale, determined to get her life back on track if Mark is moving out. When he gets home he has news and tells his mum that he got the job with the army and she is thrilled, finally accepting his wishes and giving him a hug.

There is also happy hers at Nonnatus House when Sister Catherine gets a letter from her sister, Helen, who has written to say she will be at her vow ceremony and wouldn't miss it for the world, even if she has to come on her own, and without the rest of the family.

Everyone heads off for the film premiere and as Trixie, Miss Higgins, Joyce and Phyllis all leave together, Rosalind goes ahead with Cyril. But while they are walking there some young lads who are passing them make a comment about Rosalind being able to do 'better' than Cyril, and she is fuming at the racist comment while he tells her that change will come, but it is going to take time.

The premiere goes smoothly and as Cyril and Rosalind talk about the future they want to share together, it seems this is a romance that is getting off to a solid start.

The Call the Midwife Christmas specials 2024 kickstarted the new series in style with Trixie returning from New York, Reggie going missing and panic for Nonnatus House as the building's future was thrown into jeopardy. Now we have reached the spring of 1970 and we have a new midwife arriving at Nonnatus House.

Here is everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 14 episode 6...

The sixth episode opens with rubbish piling up around Poplar after the bin men have gone on strike over their pay. A designated rubbish collection point has been made outside Nonnatus House, which Sister Julienne is worried could be a health hazard to their team of midwives, while Doctor Turner is concerned it is too close to the school and market. Doctor Turner tells Sister Julienne he is back on the board of health and will bring up their concerns at the next council meeting.

Trixie and Joyce are running an 'early ambulation' course at the community centre for other healthcare professionals, teaching them that the advice is no longer for new mothers to stay in bed for 10 days but to get up and about as quickly as possible to aid recovery from childbirth.

At the council meeting, Doctor Turner highlights the health impact that having so much rubbish lying around will have on the residents of Poplar, while Violet tells everyone as Mayor that the bin men have the right to strike and this isn't going to be solved easily.

At the maternity home, Bernie Midgely arrives ready to give birth and she has a little girl, however, she is rude to Joyce and another patient and it is clear she is being racist. Soon she has had enough of being on the maternity ward and discharges herself after only two days, much to the horror of Shelagh and Miss Higgins.

Doctor Turner and Sister Veronica visit an elderly patient called Albert Butler, he is very poorly with an infection caused by the rats from all the rubbish and Doctor Turner sends him straight to St Cuthbert's. However, it isn't a happy ending for Albert because it turns out he has Weil's disease and sadly dies.

With the rubbish piling up around Poplar, people are becoming poorly left right, and centre - and Trixie is horrified to find a rat in her bike's saddle bag as she gets ready for her morning rounds. Fred suggests they keep the bikes indoors at Nonnatus House until the rubbish is gone but as he solves one problem another begins when Reggie falls ill with an upset stomach from handling all the rubbish.

Later, Rosalind finds Cyril's cat, Nigel, who has been chasing all the rats, but he doesn't look well. Rosalind takes him back to Cyril's flat and waits for him to get home, but while she is there she starts feeling unwell and worries that she is developing an allergy to his fur. Cyril gets home and thanks Rosalind for looking after Nigel, and there is a moment between them.

Later, Rosalind ends up poorly in bed, running a fever and off her food, while Cyril tries to nurse Nigel back to health through the night, but sadly, he dies in his arms.

As Fred helps Cyril bury Nigel in the community gardens, Cyril tells Fred he is going to miss his friend and that he helped him figure out what he needs to do next, and that is getting a divorce from Lucielle now that he knows she is never coming back.

As they are talking, an ambulance arrives at Nonnatus House for Rosalind, who has taken a turn for the worst in the night. Fred and Cyril worry it is for Sister Monica Joan, but little do they know it is Rosalind being rushed to hospital.

Sister Catherine and Joyce make a house call to see Bernie and while the new mum is pleased to see Sister Catherine, he face drops when she sees Joyce is with her, and she is rude as Joyce does her job of examining her.

Soon, she is grumpy and mean and asks them both to leave. Sister Catherine is shocked by the whole ordeal and asks Joyce what she should write in her notes, and she suggests they usually say 'the mother declined attention' which Sister Catherine says is putting Bernie's rudeness very politely.

At St Cuthbert's the doctors confirm that Rosalind has Weil's disease and also some kidney problems as well. The doctor explains that Rosalind is gravely ill and the next 24 hours are critical. Trixie sits by her bedside and the pair of them pray together for her recovery.

Meanwhile, at Bernie's house, she takes a turn for the worst and wakes up with red legs. But when Joyce gets there to visit her Bernie won't let her anywhere near her to help becasue of the colour of her skin, and poor Joyce has no choice but to leave and ask Doctor Turner to make a house visit in her place.

Doctor Turner discovers Bernie has a blood clot and needs to be in a hospital immediately, but Bernie is more worried about making a formal complaint about Joyce, telling Doctor Turner this is all her fault.

At Nonnatus House, everyone is gravely worried about Rosalind who is still very poorly in hospital. Fred thinks that she got Weil's disease from Nigel, while Cyril arrives and asks about her welfare. He is visibly concerned for her when Trixie tells him how poorly Rosalind is and that he should get checked at the surgery himself as he has been in contact with both Rosalind and Nigel.

Cyril gets an injection from Doctor Turner to stop him from getting ill and is thrilled when Rosalind turns a corner and is allowed visitors again. When he arrives, he brings her grapes but admits that he should have bought her flowers. He sits by her bedside and takes her hand, admitting that Nigel's passing has made him realise that he doesn't want to be alone.

Rosalind reassures him that he has friends, and also reminds him he is married, Cyril admits that he is getting a divorce from Lucille and that while he doesn't know what the future might hold, he knows he doesn't want to navigate it on his own and kisses Rosalind on the cheek - their fledgling romance finally taking off.

Joyce has a meeting with Sister Julienne, who tells her about the official complaint being made by Bernie. Joyce is devastated that someone would deem her incompetent as a midwife but knows that this is more about the colour of her skin than her medical knowledge. Sister Julienne asks if racial prejudice is something that she has experienced before, and Joyce is stunned that she should even ask that - pointing out that this is something that happens every day of her life, leaving Sister Julienne shocked.

As Rosalind is welcomed home to Nonnatus House, now feeling a lot better with the fever gone, Sister Julienne asks Sister Catherine about her experiences with Bernie and Joyce. She also points out Bernie's racial prejudice against Joyce, and Sister Julienne tells her they are going to do everything they can to fight these allegations and protect Joyce.

At the end of the episode, Joyce is drying Rosalind's hair for her and Rosalind asks if she wants to talk about the complaint being made against her. Joyce is honest and says no, because they are going to spend weeks talking about it as it is investigated, and for now, she wants to think about something else. So Rosalind tells her she is going on a date with Cyril, hoping for her friend's blessing.

But instead of being happy for Rosalind, Joyce is worried, telling her some prejudiced people won't like them being together and that they will make things very hard for them both. Rosalind is determined that she wants to get to know Cyril better and Joyce leaves it there, having said her bit.

Will Rosalind take on board Joyce's words of warning?

Here is everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 14 episode 5...

The fifth episode opens as summer 1970 reaches Poplar and Reggie is home for the holidays and is looking after Cyril's cat, Nigel, while he is visiting Lucille in Jamaica.

Sister Veronica visits Mr and Mrs Baldwin to find out why their girls, Tracy and Sylvia, haven't been going to school. They promise to turn over a new leaf in the new term, and Sister Veronica is surprised to see Eva Baldwin is pregnant as she isn't on the midwife books. But Eva says she doesn't want a midwife visit and that they are moving to Birmingham in a few days.

The team at Nonnatus House worry that Eva needs their expert care, so Sister Julienne heads to visit the family. Once there, she receives a frosty welcome when Eva refuses to be checked over. She also notices Eva has bruises on her wrists and, worried, gives her the number for Nonattus House should she wish to contact them.

Shelagh visits Mr and Mrs Desmond and Mr Desmond, Owen, is in an air chamber to help him breathe after contracting polio years ago - she changes the dressings on his bed sores and congratulates his wife, Betty, who is taking amazing care of him. She notices that Betty looks a little yellow and so encourages her to make a GP appointment as she could be jaundiced.

At the surgery, Miss Higgins is showing her grandson Harry how her intricate filing system works as he is taking a break from dental school. Doctor Turner invites him to come along on his house calls later, and Harry is really keen. Betty turns up for her appointment and Doctor Turner is clearly worried about the symptoms she is displaying and sends her to St Cuthbert's for blood tests.

When Betty gets home, she tells Owen that they found a mass in one of her X-rays and that she needs to go back to the hospital to find out more. He asks what it all means but she glosses over it all and hides her worry.

Meanwhile, at Nonnatus House, Sister Monica Joan notices that something isn't right with Sister Julienne and she corners her in the chapel to ask what is wrong. She explains that she is upset that their work doesn't seem to be welcomed after a newspaper report was seen couraging expectant mothers to have their babies in hospital and after her run-in with Eva Baldwin, it seems Sister Julienne is feeling more redundant than ever.

Cyril comes home with the sad news that Lucille's mother died while he was in Jamaica and that is why he extended his visit for a little while. But as he explains to Violet, it seems there is something else he isn't telling her.

Shelagh goes to see Betty and Owen, and Betty is fretting about having to wait for her results, so Shelagh asks Doctor Turner to call the hospital and find out more. He arrives at the house to break the bad news that Betty has cancer and that it has spread, and there is little they can do apart from making her comfortable. Shelagh and Doctor Turner's hearts break for the Desmonds as they take in their dire and short-lived future together.

Sister Julienne talks to Sister Veronica about how she feels, sharing her despair that Eva Baldwin won't ask for the help she so clearly needs. Meanwhile, at the squat that the Baldwins live in, Mr Baldwin gets home drunk from the pub and beats up pregnant Eva in front of their terrified children.

Elsewhere, Violet organises the Poplar Commonwealth Games while the real thing plays out on TV - everyone gets into the spirit of things, making ribbon medals and flag bunting.

At the weekly mother and baby clinic, Eva Baldwin turns up at the last minute with her two girls, and Sister Julienne is pleased to see her but shocked to see she has a black eye. She checks her baby and is concerned when Eva admits that she had a show that morning but there was blood in it, which she hasn't had before and is worried there is something wrong with the baby. Sister Julienne tells her she is in labour, and Eva panics and tries to go home, but Sister Julienne is worried that she should be going to the maternity home instead. Eva refuses help becasue then her husband will know she went to the clinic when he forbade her to. They get home and her husband is waiting, Sister Julienne tells him to leave but instead of taking their daughters with him, he goes to the pub.

Eva delivers a baby daughter and she seems happy that all has gone well - but soon she is in pain again and after examining her, Sister Julienne breaks the news that it is twins.

Alone in a squat and with no help, Sister Julienne tells the two girls that they have to deliver a note asking for help - but with them off to do their job, Eva and Sister Julienne have no choice but to deliver the second baby, which is coming out feet first.

Soon, Eva delivers another baby girl. Eva's older daughters do their job brilliantly and arrive back in a taxi after the driver found them wandering the streets. He tells a relieved Sister Julienne that he has called an ambulance. Soon the girls are tucked up in a warm bed together at Nonnatus House and Eva is at the maternity ward with twin number one. Twin number two, who was the smaller of the two babies goes to St Cuthbert's where she is in an incubator and being tube-fed.

As everyone rallies around Betty and Owen, giving them all the support and help they might need. Doctor Turner tells Harry about something called a cuirass, which is an artificial ventilator that encloses the body - the same idea as the iron lung but portable. Doctor Turner manages to find someone with a cuirass and soon Owen is able to sit up in a wheelchair for the first time in years and hold Betty's hand as she lies poorly in bed and slowly passes away as he holds her hand.

At the maternity home, Eva's husband turns up to meet the new babies but he is rude and turns on Eva when Sister Julienne says she should be in the hospital for at least 10 days. Eva finds the courage to tell her husband that they don't need him and that he should leave, which he does, telling her that he won't come back. But Eva has made her mind up and tells him that is probably for the best.

Mrs Wallace finds Cyril at the church and he seems troubled. He finally opens up and reveals that while he was away, Lucille asked him for a divorce because she doesn't want to return to London and he doesn't want to live in Jamaica. Mrs Wallace asks if there is a compromise the couple can reach, but he says no, there is nothing that can be done and he is worried how people of the church's congregation will feel about having a divorced pastor.

Miss Higgins is thrilled when Harry announces that his time shadowing Doctor Turner has made him realise that he wants to do medicine at university and not dentistry and that he is going to change his course. They share a warm moment, united in their grief over Harry's father missing this milestone moment.

At the maternity home, Sister Julienne is helping Eva work out what her options are now that she has four daughters to look after alone. She will go to a hostel and will receive financial help and Eva is grateful for everything Sister Julienne has done, reminding Sister Julienne why she loves her role in the community so much and reviving her faith.

The Poplar Commonwealth Games get underway, and Joyce notices that Rosalind is pining after Cyril and grills her about it. Eventually, Rosalind admits her feelings for Cyril and says that nothing can happen becasue he is married and a pastor. But little does she know he is getting divorced... could there be hope on the horizon?

Here is everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 14 episode 4...

The fourth episode opens with Nonnatus House getting ready for the arrival of Sister Catherine, who is joining the team the following day. As her room is prepared, Fred calls that there is someone at the door, and it is Sister Catherine, who has arrived a day early.

While Doctor Turner is faffing about with his family's washing at the surgery, explaining to Miss Higgins that their washer is broken and Shelagh is going to collect it and take it to the laundrette, Miss Higgins points out they haven't had a very positive response to their Measles vaccination clinic invitation.

Meanwhile, still at the surgery, Peggy Rigley arrives, a 46-year-old mother of 7 who thinks she is pregnant again. She asks Doctor Turner for his help to get an abortion, and he tells her that although it is now legal, it needs to be signed off by more than one doctor. Doctor Turner refers Peggy to Mr Wilkins at St Cuthbert's and suggests that she also thinks about sterilisation so that she doesn't conceive again.

At the launderette, Shelagh asks Mrs Wallace for a service wash while a single mother, Jill, does her own washing with her son, Andrew.

Andrew, who is in a wheelchair, catches his hands in one of the washing machine doors so Shelagh helps dress the wound and talks to Jill about Andrew's seizures. Jill explains they were caused by him contracting measles at the age of 2 which resulted in brain damage, but it has only made her love him more, even though his condition made her husband walk out on them both.

Peggy comes to the mother and baby clinic with her eldest daughter, Gail, who is pregnant and has high blood pressure. Nurse Crane reassures her there is no sign of pre-eclampsia yet, but that she needs to rest, and with her son-in-law away, Peggy asks Gail to move back home with the rest of the family until the baby is born. As Peggy rushes around at home cooking dinner and organising things for her family, none of them have a clue that she is pregnant.

Shelagh is worried about Andrew and Jill and asks Sister Veronica to look into why the council took away his place at a special school. While Sister Veronica visits the council and tries to get answers, Shelagh visits Jill, who is under huge pressure and tells Shelagh that she feels completly alone.

Meanwhile, at Peggy's house, she gets home and is bleeding. Luckily Nurse Crane is there visiting Gail and she takes her to the bathroom and confirms she is sadly having a miscarriage. Doctor Turner arrives and tells Peggy that she is going to have to go straight to the hospital for a D and C as there is more blood than usual.

At the hospital, the doctor, Mr Wilkins, talks to Peggy about having a sterilisation at the same time as the D and C procedure and she agrees that it is for the best, and so goes Gail. As the operation goes ahead, things take a worrying turn when Peggy starts to turn blue, and it is only when her husband, Jimmy, turns up at the hospital that Mr Wilkins breaks the news to him and Gail that Peggy has died due to complications in the operating theatre, leaving them both devastated.

As Gail and her father blame one another for Peggy's sudden death, Sister Catherine and Nurse Crane look after the family, making sure they have everything they might need. Later, Nurse Crane is worried about Gail's blood pressure and takes her to the maternity home for rest, while Sister Catherine looks after Peggy's children until Jimmy comes home, and he is grateful for the help.

Elsewhere, Violet is surprised that the council have taken Andrew's place at the specialist school away, as she was under the impression he would still be funded for the place and transport to get him there.

When Jill sees Miss Higgins' poster advertising the measles vaccination campaign, she asks her for spare leaflets and heads to the local school, where she tells other mums that they have a chance that she and Andrew never had and should get their child vaccinated against measles. Soon the sign-up sheet is filling up, and it is all thanks to Jill. After a slight delay with the vaccines being delivered, Doctor Turner saves the day by collecting them himself and soon the clinic is underway.

Gail goes into labour and she's scared to deliver her baby without her mum by her side, despite the fact Sister Catherine and Nurse Crane are there to help her. In the end, Nurse Crane asks Gail's father to come into the delivery room to be with her, it isn't usual for men to be in the delivery room, but Nurse Crane thinks it will help Gail if she has a familiar face with her. With her father by her side, Gail delivers a healthy baby girl and soon the family gathers around her, eager to meet the new arrival.

There is also good news for Jill, because not only has Violet managed to pull some strings at the council and get Andrew a place at the local specialist school at the start of the new term, but Shelagh has also managed to get him a space at Cubs with Miss Higgins and Nurse Crane. He is the picture of happiness as other children surround him, while Jill gets a break and spends her free time with the other mums, feeling like she finally fits in once again.

At the end of the episode, we see Sister Catherine finally finding her place at Nonnatus House, putting her studying aside for a moment while she shows everyone her origami skills. It seems a chat that she had with Sister Monia Joan earlier that day about why she became a nun has reassured her she is doing the right thing - could this be the start of a long and happy life in Poplar?

Here is everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 14 episode 3...

The third epsiode opens with Phyllis talking about a patient called Alf who had prostate surgery and has been released with a catheter in place that will be there for three days. Going home with a catheter is a new thing and she asks Joyce to go and visit him on the Robin Hood estate.

Sister Veronica asks Joyce to visit a vulnerable family who also live on the same estate. The mother is Mrs Willilams who was recently widowed with three young children and rehoused after being in a homeless hostel. Once there, Joyce sees that the youngest child has a bad nappy rash, they are all underweight and also have impetigo. Mrs Williams tells Joyce that she loves her children, but Joyce is quick to reassure her that no one thinks otherwise and fate has just dealt them a cruel blow.

The midwives hold an antenatal relaxation class and Mrs Lasley turns up with her husband who is a flashy businessman with his own business selling vending machines but Shelagh isn't convinced that they are going to catch on!

Alf isn't happy about being seen by Joyce and she is annoyed when he asks her to speak slowly becasue he 'can't understand her'. He asks her to do some shopping for him as he can't walk far and she agrees but is cross when he bashes on the ceiling with a broom to make Mrs Williams and her children upstairs know he isn't happy about all the noise they are making.

Meanwhile, there is good news that evening at Nonnatus House, becasue the midwives' pay packets are in and this month they include back payments with the wage increase they all fought so hard for. Rosalind feels bad that the sisters don't benefit from the pay increase and Joyce reminds her that they have taken a vow of poverty and that they understand.

Mrs Williams is forced to leave her three children at home while she goes out to work and when she returns Joyce catches her running back to the flat where all her children are scared and crying after waking up to find her missing.

Norma Lasley goes into labour and is calm and collected as she arrives at the maternity hospital where Rosalind helps her deliver a daughter. However, when the baby arrives Rosalind notices a big blister on the baby's back and Dr Turner confirms that it is full of spinal fluid and that the baby has spina bifida. When he tells the parents they are upset that she will need an operation and soon.

Joyce collects Alf's mint imperials, newspaper and cigarettes and Fred remembers him as one of their regular customers and admits that he thought he might have died after he stopped visiting the shop. Joyce tells him he is a tricky patient and has just moved into a new home that needs work and so Fred agrees to go and visit him with his toolkit. When Joyce returns to Alf's he accuses her of stealing his money, when she has already given him his shopping and change.

At Nonnatus House Sister Julienne tells Trixie that they have had the date for their meeting with the board of health through and it doesn't give them long to prepare. Trixie says she will be the sole representative of Nonnatus House at the meeting and promises to convince them that they still need the service that Nonnatus House provides in Poplar.

Norma Lasley and her husband are blaming themselves for the fact their daughter has spina bifida and soon the ambulance arrives to take her to St Cuthbert's. But later, Rosalind catches them packing Norma's bag and the couple announces they can't give their daughter what she needs and have decided she will be better off in care. Rosalind tries to stop them from leaving but they won't listen and are adamant they have made the right decision.

While everyone at Nonnatus House tries to remain positive and hope that Mr and Mrs Lasley just need time to get over the shock, they know that social services must be informed. However, when Doctor Turner has a meeting with social services they are reluctant to get involved becasue they have so many impoverished children in care that they don't have the resources to 'get involved'. They say that a couple with Mr and Mrs Lasley's social standing means they need to focus on getting the parents to take responsibility for their daughter.

Elsewhere, Doctor Turner takes out Alf's catheter while Fred arrives to see him and do the DIY jobs that Joyce mentioned. Alf is rude about Joyce again until Fred tells him it was her idea that he came to visit. Soon Alf is released from care and Joyce tells him she won't be visiting anymore, while Fred goes home and tells Violet that he never takes her for granted, reminded how lucky he is by Alf's loneliness.

Doctor Turner and Sister Veronica are pleased to hear that Baby Lasley's operation went well and she is now stable. Sister Veronica and Rosalind go to see Norma and she asks what is next after being checked over by Rosalind. Sister Veronica tries to talk to her about having the baby back at home, but she is adamant that she can't give her baby what she needs and hands over all her baby clothes. On the way out Sister Veronica and Rosalind bump into Mr Lasley and he is heartbroken about the whole thing, telling them they probably think they're terrible people for giving up on their daughter and that even if they are blessed as a couple to have more children, things will never be the same again.

At the surgery, Shelagh has made a sneaky purchase and bought Doctor Turner an automatic coffee maker, but while she can't wait to see his face when it is all set up - Miss Higgins is most put out, pointing out that making Doctor Turner's coffee is her job!

Baby Lasley is released from the hospital and with nowhere else to go, they take her in at the maternity home and decide she needs a proper name. Miss Higgins points out she was born in June, and so that could be her name. When she arrives at the maternity home, Sister Veronica and Rosalind take on June's care, and with the parents declining the job of registering her birth, the job falls to Rosalind as she was the one who delivered her.

Each of the Nonnatus House nuns and midwives takes care of June, and it is a real team effort, to bring her back to health as she recovers from surgery. However, with her parents and social services turning their back on little June, the midwives at Nonnatus House have no choice but to contact the local orphanage and get them to take her in.

The following day, Joyce is at the Robin Hood estate to see Mrs Willilams when there is a huge gas explosion from Alf's flat. Everyone is evacuated and Fred turns up to help. But when Mrs Williams comes home from work, she panics that her children are in the flat upstairs on their own and Fred offers to go in and get them as the building isn't safe.

Inside he finds Alf has already gone to the children and is looking after them. Fred takes them out of the building and promises to go back for Alf, but when he leaves Alf collapses. Thankfully the paramedics get him out just in time, and Mrs Williams thanks both Fred and Alf for saving her children. Alf seems pleased and his hard exterior is cracked at last when he passes on the same kindness that Joyce showed to him.

Later, Mrs Williams is rehoused in a nice new apartment with her three children and Alf is back on his feet, having been released from hospital after the explosion. He returns Joyce's kindness by paying for her shopping the next time he pops into Fred's shop.

Sister Julienne and Nurse Crane see Trixie off as she heads off for the meeting with the board of health. Trixie gives as good as she gets in the meeting, bamboozling the board with facts and figures that she has spent hours researching. Eventually, the board makes a decision about the future of Nonnatus House and at the end of the episode Trixie gets home to tell everyone the news that Nonnatus House has been saved and lives to fight another day.

Call the Midwife season 14 has reunited us with all our Nonnatus House favorites as we arrive in 1070s Poplar for more twists, turns and, of course, expectant mothers and babies!

The Call the Midwife Christmas specials 2024 kickstarted the new series in style with Trixie returning from New York, Reggie going missing and panic for Nonnatus House as the building's future was thrown into jeopardy.

Here is everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 14 episode 2...

The second episode opens with the mother and baby clinic getting underway where we meet some new mums-to-be. Arlene Brewer arrives and tells Trixie that she has to have her baby at St Cuthbert's, but fails to mention it is because she has just been released from a psychiatric hospital where she has been for four months. Doctor Turner gets her notes and it turns out she was admitted after she was found talking to a 'dead relative'. He tells Trixie that Arlene is on Lithium for her condition and that is why she is being cared for under St Cuthbert's.

Another expectant mother, Zeeta Dermere, is seen by Nurse Crane and after an examination, it turns out she has gonorrhea, but she says she has only ever slept with her husband.

It soon turns out Zeeta isn't the only one suffering, because a young lad, Eric Wilson, comes to a vaccination clinic that is being run by Sister Veronica and he asks to speak to her privately. He tells her of his symptoms and she sends him to Doctor Turner. It turns out Eric also has gonorrhea and Doctor Turner, Shelagh and Miss Higgins start to worry they might have an outbreak on their hands.

Meanwhile, Violet is preparing for the spring flower festival, which will be her final event as mayor and she wants it to be perfect... even if poor Fred does look fed up putting up the banner for the event!

At St Cuthbert's the doctor tells Arlene that she can't breastfeed when her baby arrives because there is a risk the Lithium she is taking could be in the breastmilk. With his words about ringing in her ears, Arlene decides to stop taking her Lithium tablets and throws them down the sink.

Rosalind and Cyril are helping at the homeless shelter when they have to break up a fight between two men. One of the men, Ted, tells Rosalind he used to be a window dresser in Harrods and she is upset when Ted explains he became homeless after a housefire killed his wife and child. Rosalind feels for Ted, especially when Cyril reminds him that if he keeps fighting he won't be allowed back at the shelter.

Meanwhile, Shelagh, Sister Veronica and Miss Higgins form a tracing group, trying to work out where the gonorrhea is coming from to try and stop the spread. The whole system means intimate interviews and everyone is worried, but Doctor Turner points out this is a major medical concern and they head off to do their best.

Trixie visits Arlene who, unbeknownst to her has stopped taking her Lithium medication, so she is not quite herself. She starts talking about her late sister, Stella, and how she spiraled when she lost her mum not that long ago. She says she can't sleep and Trixie recommends some sleeping tablets, but Arlene jumps down her throat saying she is already on enough medication.

Meanwhile, Miss Higgins goes to see Zeeta's husband to ask about his sexual relations so they can work out how his pregnant wife contracted gonorrhea, but he gets angry and throws her out.

Elsewhere, Shelagh is visiting Eric, the 16-year-old with gonorrhea and tells him he needs to come to surgery for treatment. She eventually gets him to admit he went to a local brothel on his brother's stag night and the penny drops that this could be the cause of the outbreak. Miss Higgins goes to the brothel to speak to the man running it, and couldn't look more like a duck out of water if she tried! He doesn't want to listen to what she has to say, but when she works her Miss Higgins magic in not taking no for an answer, he points her in the direction of 'Ada's' door and it turns out the woman is Mrs Rowntree, one of the mothers at the baby clinic.

Miss Higgins is shocked that Mrs Rowntree is in so much trouble and tells her about the outbreak. But Mrs Rowntree tells her she won't come to the clinic as Doctor Turner knows her as a mother and not a brothel worker. After some Miss Higgins persuasion, Mrs Rowntree agrees, but she says that the other girls at the brothel won't go - so Miss Higgins suggests bringing the clinic to them.

Still worrying about Ted, Rosalind goes to find him on the streets and tells him that not only has she convinced everyone at the homeless shelter that he should be allowed back after his fight, but that she also wants him to help her with a flower arrangement for the St Oswald's flower festival to put his window dressing skills to use. Ted is overwhelmed by her kindness and promises to meet her with ideas the following day. Rosalind is thrilled when he makes a beautiful plan for their display and asks Ted to get the flowers and meet her on Thursday.

Later, Joyce and Trixie hold a mother and baby class and Arlene arrives late and is skittish and loud, causing concern for Trixie that something isn't right with her. The next day Trixie visits Arlene for her regular check-up and finds she is more out of character than ever. She is also having pains and as she talks about all the animals she can see on a wall, Trixie realises she hasn't been taking her medication and goes to fetch the doctor. However, once she leaves Arlene locks the door behind her.

One of the women working at the brothel tells Miss Higgins about a foreman who organises groups of men to visit her on a regular basis and they use this as a way to track down the gonorrhea spread. The woman doesn't know his name as her clients never give real names, but describes a distinctive scar he has. Doctor Turner knows what operation he must have had to get the scar and they work out who he is from his medical records. At the building site, the foreman doesn't take kindly to being cornered by Miss Higgins and Shelagh at work but when they threaten to report him to the police for organising brothel visits, he finally complies and tells his workers to get tested and treated.

As the workers line up to get details for the clinic, Miss Higgins is shocked to see one of them is Zeeta's husband who threw her out of his house the other day. He tells Miss Higgins about how he came to London before Zeeta and thought he would never see her again, so he went to the brothel to help forget Zeeta. But then a day later she turned up and they got married... and he never meant to hurt her. Miss Higgins tells him he needs to do the right thing now and get tested.

Trixie returns to Arlene with Doctor Turner and finds the door locked so they have to break in through the window. Arlene is in full labour and as she gives birth she talks about the mural on the wall to her late sister, who isn't there. Arlene has a baby daughter with the help of Trixie and Doctor Turner but it isn't long before they have to take them both to the hospital.

At the same time, Zeeta has gone into labour and her husband finds her and tells her about his brothel visit. Zeeta is devastated but has no time to worry becasue the baby is coming so she rushes to the maternity home where Nurse Crane helps deliver her baby boy.

Thursday arrives and Rosalind is upset when Ted fails to show up for the flower display arranging but Cyril is there to cheer her up. They decide to show Ted that he matters by making the display he designed. As they work together, there is a spark between them as their hands touch.

But later at the church, Mrs Wallace comments on how much time Cyril is spending at the shelter - and with Rosalind - he is given food for thought and books a flight to Jamaica to see Lucille. When Rosalind arrives to collect him for the flower festival, she is surprised to see him with a suitcase and tries to hide her sadness when he tells her where he's going. Before leaving, Cyril gives Rosalind a gentle kiss on the cheek and she dashes off upset.

Trixie is upset about the fact Arlene will end up back in a psychiatric hospital and her baby will go into foster care and wonders how she is going to break the news to her patient. Joyce boosts her mood when she gives her a letter that has arrived from America and Trixie is thrilled to see Matthew has sent her a lock of Jonty's hair. Later she sees Arlene and explains what happens next, but promises that as soon she gets better she will be reunited with her daughter once again. Before she leaves, Trixie gives Arlene a lock of her daughter's hair in the hope it will bring her comfort.

As the episode ends, the flower festival gets underway and Violet announces to a delighted crowd that she will be serving another year as Mayor of Tower Hamlets. Everyone celebrates and it feels like Spring has sprung in Poplar.

The world first heard that iconic guitar riff and kicky drum lick from "Blister in the Sun" forty years ago and tonight, PBS is celebrating the seminal album that that song came from, as well as the band who created it. The music special Violent Femmes: 40th Anniversary with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra is making its national debut on PBS stations across the country on Friday, December 13 at 9pm Eastern Time, with an encore broadcast scheduled for 10:15pm ET.

Recorded at the Bradley Symphony Center on October 3, 2023, during the Wisconsin-based band's big 40th anniversary tour, the concert sees founding members Gordon Gano (guitar, lead vocals) and Brian Ritchie (bass, backing vocals) joined by their longtime bandmates—multi-instrumentalist Blaise Garza and drummer John Sparrow—as well as the prestigious Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to tear through hits from the band's 1983 self-titled debut album, including “Blister in the Sun,” “Kiss Off,” “Add It Up” and “Gone Daddy Gone.”

A true Wisconsin-local band, Violent Femmes formed in 1981; legend has is that the acoustic punk band was busking on the streets of Milwaukee, WI, when they were discovered performing outside the city's Oriental Theatre, where The Pretenders would be playing later that evening. That band's lead singer, Chrissy Hynde, reportedly invited Gordon and the gang to open for them that night. Their debut album Violent Femmes dropped two years later, and the rest is history, with the record going on to reach platinum status.

The whole world knows Sherlock Holmes—now get to know the story behind the classic character, as well as the man who created him. Premiering tonight, December 8 at 8pm Eastern Time, Lucy Worsley’s Holmes vs. Doyle is a new three-part series on PBS that sees popular British historian and lifelong Sherlock Holmes fan Lucy Worsley seek to answer why author Arthur Conan Doyle came to despise the character that made him so rich and famous.

"Throughout the series, Worsley explores the parallel lives of Doyle and Holmes in the historical context of their times," reads the official show description, per PBS. "From the dying years of Victorian England, through the imperial crisis of the Boer war, the optimism of the early Edwardian years, to the trauma of the First World War, Arthur and Sherlock lived through them all."

The premiere episode of Lucy Worsley’s Holmes vs. Doyle, entitled "Doctor and Detective," will kick things off with Doyle’s early life as a medical student in Edinburgh. Worsley unpacks Holmes' origins, revealing the dark underbelly of late Victorian Britain, as well as the author’s growing disenchantment with his detective as he headed to Switzerland to visit the site of one of the most famous deaths in literature.

Episode two, "Fact and Fiction," will follow next Sunday, December 15, focused on Doyle’s desire to distance himself from his famous character after the detective’s apparent death at the Reichenbach Falls. In the finale, “Shadows and Sleuths” (capping things off on Sunday, December 22), Lucy investigates the return of Sherlock as well as how the darkness of later Holmes stories mirrored the reality of Doyle's life.

Even if you don't know the man Henry Mancini, you definitely know the music—from "The Pink Panther Theme" to "Moon River," the American composer and conductor is behind some of the most instantly recognizable scores in Hollywood history. One of the greatest songmen in all of film (think Breakfast at Tiffanys, Days of Wine and Roses, Victor/Victoria and Charade, among many others), Mancini was the recipient of four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe and a whopping twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.

And tonight, PBS pays tribute to the seminal composer with Henry Mancini 100 at the Hollywood Bowl, a celebration of what would have been Mancini's 100th year. Airing Friday, November 29 at 9pm Eastern Time on PBS, the special concert will kick off the 2024 season of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra—Mancini conducted at the famed California venue 29 times. Overseen by conductor Thomas Wilkins, the concert will feature performances by Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, Grammy-winning crooner Michael Bublé, Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz as well as Henry Mancini's own daughter, Monica Mancini. Erivo's Wicked co-star Jeff Goldblum will serve as the event's host.

Along with live renditions of Mancini's most famous tunes—accompanied by archival footage and clips from those beloved films and TV shows—the program will also go behind the scenes of the recording of the 100^th anniversary album featuring John Williams, Arturo Sandoval, Herbie Hancock, Gustavo Dudamel, the LA Phil, Stevie Wonder, Lizzo, James Galway and the last televised appearance of the late, great Quincy Jones.

One of the greatest minds in history, Leonardo da Vinci, is the subject of one of the greatest documentarians, Ken Burns, in a brand new PBS original documentary. Aptly titled Leonardo Da Vinci, the four-hour documentary is going to play over two nights — Monday, November 18 and Tuesday, November 19, from 8-10 pm ET/PT on PBS, as well as be available on PBS.org and the PBS app.

“Leonardo Da Vinci, Ken Burns’s first non-American subject, explores the life and work of the 15th-century polymath Leonardo da Vinci. The film looks at how the artist influenced and inspired future generations, and it finds in his soaring imagination and profound intellect the foundation for a conversation we are still having today: what our relationship is with nature and what it means to be human. Set against the rich and dynamic backdrop of Renaissance Italy, at a time of skepticism and freethinking, regional war and religious upheaval, Leonardo Da Vinci brings the artist’s towering achievements to life through his prolific personal notebooks, primary and secondary accounts of his life, and on-camera interviews with modern scholars, artists, engineers, inventors and admirers.”

Ken Burns is a five-time Emmy-winning documentarian (and two-time Oscar nominee) who has been behind acclaimed TV docuseries like The Civil War, Baseball, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea and The Vietnam War. All of these were produced in partnership and are currently available to stream on PBS. That is part of the excitement for Leonardo Da Vinci, as it marks another major collaboration between Burns and PBS.

“No single person can speak to our collective effort to understand the world and ourselves,” said Burns. “But Leonardo had a unique genius for inquiry, aided by his extraordinary skills as an artist and scientist, that helps us better understand the natural world that we are part of and to appreciate more fully what it means to be alive and human.”

Some other notable contributors to the documentary are Sarah Burns and David McMahon, who are Burns’ co-writers and co-directors for the documentary. Caroline Shaw recorded original music, while Keith David (Rick and Morty) provides narration and Italian actor Adriano Giannini (Lonely Planet) voices Leonardo da Vinci in parts.

In a Christmas TV highlight for fans, the Beeb has announced that instead of one 90-minute trip to Poplar during the festive season we will be making two 60-minute episode visits to our favorite midwives.

Heidi Thomas OBE, creator and writer says: "Who doesn't love finding an extra, unexpected present underneath the Christmas tree? When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas special for 2024, I couldn’t resist!"

After Call the Midwife season 13 ended on a cliffhanger that saw Trixie (Helen George) agree to move to New York to be with her husband Matthew as they tried to get their family finances back on track, fans will be waiting to see what the future holds for them and the rest of our Nonnatus House favorites.

After that cliffhanger at the end of the last series, fans of the show are desperate to know what will happen to Matthew and Trixie's fragile marriage, and with Helen George confirmed to be returning for the next series as Trixie, we don't have long to wait before we find out what is next for the couple.

Teasing the plot, the BBC promises that all the "well-loved" characters will be back for the stories set in 1969. Adding: "The funfair comes to Poplar, adding a burst of color and excitement to the frosty landscape but there are other visitors to the borough — including influenza and the Hong Kong flu.

"As Poplar also prepares for a carol concert, the neighborhood is gripped by the news of an escaped prisoner and fears grow that he may be in the local area after a spate of break-ins. The Turner children are caught up in the fever surrounding the Blue Peter Christmas appeal to collect dinky cars and scrap metal. Trixie makes a fleeting visit to Nonnatus House and is delighted to see her brother Geoffrey, and Miss Higgins has her grandson Harry stay for Christmas. Violet hosts a mince pie competition but the Buckles' preparations for Reggie's homecoming are thrown into turmoil."

The Call the Midwife favorites are all back for the Christmas specials. While it has been revealed that Trixie Franklin (Helen George) will return for the Christmas episodes and season 14 it has been hinted that Olly Rix won't return as her husband Matthew Aylward. He's not on the cast list for the Christmas specials issued by the BBC.

Meanwhile, Jenny Agutter is back as Sister Julienne with Linda Bassett back as Nurse Phyllis Crane, Rebecca Gethings as Sister Veronica, Georgie Glen as Miss Higgins, and Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan. Newly qualified midwives Joyce Highland (or should we say Claudine Warren?!) played by Renee Bailey and Rosalind Clifford played by Natalie Quarry are returning.

Megan Cusack is back as Nurse Nancy Corrigan with Francesca Fullilove as Nancy's daughter, Colette Corrigan.

Doctor Turner (Stephen McGann) and his family are back including his wife Shelagh Turner (Laura Main) and son Timothy Turner (Max Macmillan). Alice Brown is also back as Angela Turner, April Rae Hoang as May Tang and Edward Shaw as Teddy Turner.

Cliff Parisi returns as Fred Buckle, along with Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle and Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson and Zephryn Taitte as Cyril Robinson.

Earlier this year we were treated to a behind the scenes look at the Christmas episodes being filmed. It might have been spring in real life, but the cast were seen wrapped up in winter coats and hats as they visited a traveling fair!

The Turner family could also be seen posing in front of a Christmas tree, confirming the festive season was well underway on the Call the Midwife set.

Over 25 years after it first aired, Walking with Dinosaurs is coming back to screens in a rebooted series, ready to reawaken a love of dinosaurs with a new generation of watchers.

First broadcast in 1999 and narrated by Kenneth Branagh, Walking with Dinosaurs was revolutionary in its use of CGI to depict dinosaurs, and it spawned loads of spin-offs, including Walking with Beasts and Walking with Monsters. But nearly 25 years after the end of the original dino series, the BBC has made a new version of the original show.

The rebooted series is simply called Walking with Dinosaurs, though we've added a "2025" on the end to differentiate it from the original show. It's a highly anticipated piece of dino media in a year also bringing us Jurassic World: Rebirth.

So here's what you need to know about the rebooted Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 including when it's out, what it'll look at, and who's in it.

Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 release date

Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 will begin on BBC One on Sunday, May 25 at 6.25 pm. The entire series will hit the iPlayer library from that date.

In the US, Walking with Dinosaurs will premiere on Monday, June 16 on the PBS channel, and episodes will roll out from then for three days. It'll also stream on PBS' online streaming library.

Australian viewers can watch the series on ABC and iView from Tuesday, June 3.

Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 episode guide

Each of the six episodes of Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 will focus on the life and times of one "classic" dinosaur, giving a more specific focus than the original.

• Episode 1: Triceratops
• Episode 2: Spinosaurus
• Episode 3: Gastonia
• Episode 4: Albertosaurus
• Episode 5: Pachyrhinosaurus
• Episode 6: Lusotitan

You probably know what a Triceratops is, and Spinosaurus is quite well-known too (if only from Jurassic Park 3) but the Lusotitan isn't as well known. It's a sauropod, or a giant four-legged creature, and you'll learn more about it during its episode.

The Albertosaurus is a lesser-known relative of the T-Rex while the Pachyrhinosaurus is a four-legged herbivore, and both are perhaps best known now for being in several video games.

These creatures will bump into more famous dinosaurs, with the Triceratops set to have a showdown with a T-Rex.

• Episode 1: The Orphan

The first episode imagines the life of an baby Triceratops after being orphaned and left without the protection of a herd, evading threats including giant Pterosaurs and a Tyrannosaurus rex.

• Episode 2: The River Dragon

Next we meet a Spinosaurus, which you may know as the deadly predator from Jurassic Park III. But in The River Dragon we see its softer side as it raises a family and embarks on a journey to a reliable food source.

• Episode 3: The Band of Brothers

The third creature we learn about is the spiky and well-armored Gastonia, which needed this protection. We follow a juvenile Gastonia as its parents protect it from the dangerous predatorial Utahraptor.

• Episode 4: The Pack

On the topic of predators, we move onto the Albertosaurus, based on a fossil from modern-day Alberta, Canada. We meet a pack of the creatures which are on the hunt for an Edmontosaurus, however the eruption of a volcano affects their migrations.

• Episode 5: The Journey North

The penultimate creature introduced in WwD is the Pachyrhinosaurus, which moved in huge herds. As the title suggests this herd is on the move in a massive migration, which brings complications and dangers for the youngsters in the herd.

• Episode 6: Island of Giants

Saving the biggest to last, the final episode focuses on a gigantic creature called the Lusotitan. We follow the attempts of one Lusotitan to find a mate and create a family.

Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 narrator

Narrating Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 is British actor Bertie Carvel, taking over from Kenneth Branagh in the original.

Carvel is perhaps best known for his roles in British dramas Dalgliesh, The Crown or Doctor Foster, but he's also set to act in upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Everything else we know about Walking with Dinosaurs 2025

The BBC has confirmed that Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 was created with reference to modern science, so we should see more scientifically accurate creatures than those in the likes of Jurassic Park or Jurassic World.

Each episode will be one hour long so we'll see lots of dino action.

The show was created by the BBC for its own broadcast but also for PBS in America, so US dino fans will have a way to watch it too.

The majority of Americans are likely going to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with barbecues, beach time and happily being off work, but there's obviously much more to the annual commemoration than simply being the unofficial start of summer. It's a time to honor the country’s veterans, servicemen and women and military families, which is just what the National Memorial Day Concert will do tonight on PBS. 

The 35th annual broadcast of America's national night of remembrance, the concert will be held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. and will air live from 8pm to 9:30pm Eastern Time on PBS on Sunday, May 26. The livestream of the National Memorial Day Concert will be available on the PBS website, the National Memorial Day Concert Facebook page, the PBS YouTube channel and the PBS app. It will also be broadcast to American troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network. 

And if you miss it, PBS will repeat the program immediately after its initial broadcast concludes at 9:30pm ET. Video on demand of the show will be available for two weeks following the live broadcast.  

"For over 30 years, this multi-award-winning television event, featuring uplifting musical performances, documentary footage and dramatic readings, has become an American tradition and is one of PBS’ highest-rated programs," per the network. Along with co-hosts Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise, this year will see appearances by a host of celebrities, including Emmy winner Bryan Cranston, Grammy winner Cynthia Erivo, actresses Jena Malone and Mary McCormack, theater stars including BD Wong and Ruthie Ann Miles, Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox, singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson and conductor Jack Everly. There will also be moving performances by the likes of the National Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Army Chorus, the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, Patrick Lundy & The Ministers of Music, and more.

There is huge news for Call the Midwife fans because the much-loved show has confirmed that filming is underway for the 2024 Christmas special and Call the Midwife season 14. 

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a festive visit to Poplar to catch up with our favorite community midwives, and we now have confirmation that the Yultide episode is in production. 

But, that's not all! After the huge success of Call the Midwife season 13, fans are waiting patiently for season 14 to hit our screens in early 2025 and in a social media post today (Monday, April 29), the show has confirmed that filming for the full series is also underway.

It might only be spring, but over in Poplar Christmas is well underway as the photo shows Doctor Turner (Stephen McGann) standing with his wife Shelagh Turner (Laura Main) and daughters Angela Turner (Alice Brown) and May Tang (April Rae Hoang) in front of a Christmas tree, looking very happy as they mark the return to filming with a clapperboard for season 14.

The caption with the image reads: "We begin our filming season in Christmas 1969, before we move on to the new year, and our new series 14 episodes. This yuletide marks a poignant turning point - as it's the last time we'll be filming in the swinging sixties! Next stop: the supersonic seventies!"

Speaking of the show's return writer and Executive Producer Heidi Thomas says: "After all these years, I still get butterflies every time I see the first clapperboard picture from the set. Series 14 is set in 1970, launching us into an exciting new decade. We can’t wait to bring you another season full of touching, exciting, emotional stories from Nonnatus House”

Fans of the much-loved period drama can also breathe a sigh of relief because despite Trixie and Mathew Aylward moving to New York at the end of season 13, we now know that Trixie is definitely coming back for the new series after Helen George confirmed she would be returning to the show.

LIZA: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story is a must for all fans of legendary singer and movie star Liza Minnelli. The project has had plenty of Liza input and has been given her blessing as she's been working over the past year or two with the famous documentary filmmaker and director Bruce David Klein and Atlas Media.

This movie will of course go back to her childhood as the daughter on iconic Hollywood star Judy Garland and legendary film director Vincent Minnelli, then move on to her successful stage and movie career which saw her pick up the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Sally Bowles in Cabaret in 1972.

In the US this documentary film was shown in the US on PBS at 8/9c on Tuesday April 1 2025. It first premiered, however, at the Tribeca film festival in New York in June 2024. The movie then opened in cinemas in New York from January 24 2025 and Los Angeles from January 31 2025.

LIZA: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story is a long title, but as big Liza fans will know 'Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story' are the words Liza Minnelli used in her iconic 1972 New York concert Liza with a Z to introduce her famous song and dance routine for Ring Them Bells by Fred Ebb and John Kander (you can hear this great song by clicking on the clip below). 

So as the documentary promises to show everything about Liza's career, we can expect plenty about her showbiz upbringing and what she learnt from her mega-famous parents Hollywood director Vincente Minnelli and the Wizard Of Oz legend Judy Garland. 

"I remember saying, is that Mama? My mother?’ says Liza, now 79, about the day her mum died. "I started to cry and I didn’t stop for about eight days. It was just devastating to me."

We'll hear about how she broke into off Broadway stage shows first then took Broadway itself by storm. Her first films in the 1960s were Charlie Bubbles and The Sterile Cuckoo, but it was her role in Cabaret in 1972 playing Sally Bowles, the eccentric nightclub singer and dancer in pre-Nazi Germany, that won her the Oscar! More film success followed with New York New York and Arthur, plus her sell out concerts worldwide have become the stuff of showbiz history. 

In this documentary there are home videos, backstage footage and through interviews with Liza herself there's plenty of inside gossip. It's full of archive material, plus memories and gems from Liza, explaining her relationships with mentors and big influences.

Appearing in the film are Liza's younger sister, the singer Lorna Luft, her Cabaret co-star Joel Grey, songwriter John Kaner plus George Hamilton, Mia Farrow, Ben Vereen and the late Chita Rivera. This film also touches on her four high-profile marriages, including her last to the late David Gest, as well as her miscarriages, her addictions and stints in rehab and the constant strain of being in the public eye. 

"I never wanted anyone to know I was less than perfect, that I was under stress. I always wanted to be the hero," says Liza. "But honestly, how lucky I was to have gone through all the bad stuff because it prepared me for the rest of my life. It made me understand a little bit more about myself."

Helen George has confirmed that she will be returning for Call the Midwife season 14 after sharing an exciting post on social media.

Helen shared a post on her Instagram stories on Thursday, April 18, originally posted by the drama’s make-up supervisor Mariella Spoto, which shows a short clip of Helen as Trixie, complete with trademark blonde hair and glamorous red lipstick.

The star captioned the reposted video with ‘series 14 awaits’ - confirming that she will be returning to her role on the show. 

In the original post, Mariella commented: “Currently a busy bee in prep for the next series of Call the Midwife series 14.

"It always makes me smile when people tell me how much they love the series. And when they find out I’ve been Trixie’s hair and make-up artist they always ask me what Trixie is like in real life and is she as beautiful… and I can confirm @helengeorge is an absolute dream and beauty who makes my job very easy."

Fans of the show will know that Trixie and Matthew’s marriage hit the rocks in season 13 when they found themselves facing financial ruin. 

Despite Trixie vowing to stand by her husband whatever life threw at them, Matthew struggled with the fact he couldn’t give Trixie the life she had become accustomed to and went to New York to put a new business venture into motion. 

But while it is great news that Trixie will be back on our screens for the new series, we are still waiting for confirmation on whether Olly Rix will return as her husband Matthew. 

After his move to the Big Apple, his exit could be permanent, however, there has been no confirmation either way and the door has been very much left open for the character for now.

Bookish plot 

Bookish is set in London 1946 and follows the eccentric and unconventional Gabriel Book (Mark Gatiss) who owns an antique bookshop but is also a self-appointed detective to the local police, acquiring all the knowledge he needs from the books around him. Gabriel surrounds himself with loveable, damaged misfits who he informally protects, cajoles, and mentors. He cares deeply for his wife Trottie (Polly Walker) who runs the wallpaper shop next door. However, theirs is a "lavender marriage" designed to hide Gabriel’s sexuality at a time when it was illegal to be gay.

Gabriel is happily married to his childhood best friend Trottie in an arrangement that suits them both. However, when Book hires a new assistant, Jack (Connor Finch), who’s just been released from prison, what will he make of his boss’s unconventional set-up?

The two-part opening story, which guest stars Daniel Mays and Rosie Cavaliero, sees Book helping the police investigate the death of local chemist Mr Harkup. Inspector Bliss (Elliot Levy) assumes the death was a suicide, but Book isn’t sure, and gathers evidence suggesting Harkup was murdered.

Mark Gatiss plays the hero of Bookish — bookseller and sleuth Gabriel Book. "Post-war London is my favourite period," says Mark. 'It’s such an interesting time - the whole world has been turned upside down, and nobody knows their place any more. It’s very exciting, but also kind of frightening.

"Every detective has their own thing, and Book’s is that he can draw on all the world’s books - either physically, or in his head. It’s difficult to come up with something that hasn’t been done before, but the fact that he’s gay and in an arranged marriage is unusual!"

Polly Walker on playing Trottie Book

Look out for Polly Walker playing Gabriel’s colourful wife Trottie Book. She says: "All marriages are very different. It’s not a sexual marriage. They are best friends. They get on. They have a similar sense of humour, similar interests. That’s what unites them. I would say they are both outsiders. Trottie less obviously so but she is most definitely different and is prepared to be a bit of a crusader on some level for women. Not that she knows that. She just lives life how she wants to. I guess Book admires that.

"I was struck by Trottie's overwhelming warmth and generosity and positivity, which is nice because I often don’t play those sorts of parts. She is such a good egg without being sickly sweet. She’s her own person. Strangely it is a very good fit for me. I said to Mark Gatiss when I saw him, ‘I can’t believe that you’ve seen the goodness in me.’ My family does. My husband does. But generally, in casting I’ve played a lot of baddies."

It’s Jack’s first day as Book’s assistant. But excavation of a nearby bomb site means the business of bookselling takes an instant back seat. Because the bomb site is full of skeletons! Jack soon realises his new employer has an unexpected sideline: solving murders. Before Jack can even unpack, let alone get his head round Book’s eccentric filing method, another body is found - the local chemist, Harkup, is found poisoned in his shop. The affable Inspector Bliss thinks it’s suicide. Book has his doubts. Jack’s soon making tea for witnesses, examining clues and getting much closer to the police than a recently released prisoner might want to. Daniel Mays and Rosie Cavaliero are guest stars.

The investigation by Book and Bliss into the chemist’s death continues as Book discovers some surprising evidence in the case of the bombsite skeletons. With multiple suspects in the frame, a missing jade figurine, and an unexpected beneficiary in Harkup’s will, Book needs all his ingenuity and his crack team of helpers – Trottie, Jack, Nora and ever-helpful Labrador, Dog, to fit the pieces of the puzzle together. The Law must take its course. But over whom does the shadow of the gallows lie…? Tim McInnerny guest stars.

Bookish is filming in Belgium during 2024 and is a UKTV Original series that was commissioned by Helen Perry, head of drama for UKTV, and ordered by Emma Ayech, channel director for Alibi, and Hilary Rosen, director of commissioning. Executive producers for Eagle Eye Drama are Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino. The series is co-written with Matthew Sweet and is directed by Carolina Giammetta (Suspect S2, Hollington Drive) and produced by Christopher Arcache (Hotel Portofino). Bookish is produced in association with Happy Duck Films and is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter.

After its British premiere on ITV back in January—during which it amassed an average of 9.8m viewers across its four episodes in the UK, even beating the launch of Downton Abbey in 2010—the critically acclaimed drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office will be making its US TV debut tonight, April 7. 

Led by BAFTA-winning actor Toby Jones, with Monica Dolan, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Alex Jennings, Ian Hart and Lia Williams rounding out the ensemble, the four-episode series details one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in British legal history, where hundreds of postmasters were wrongly accused of theft, false accounting and fraud due to a faulty computer system named Horizon. In the shockingly true David and Goliath-esque story, a group of those UK postmasters formed the Justice For Subpostmasters Alliance (JFSA) to expose the failures of Post Office. Jones portrays the group's founder, Alan Bates. 

In an interview BAFTA, Jones discussed what it was like playing Bates in the drama series, which was written by Gwyneth Hughes and directed by James Strong: "Alan is quite an extraordinary man who presents as one of the most ordinary people you can meet. Indeed, that's true of a lot of the subpostmasters...He was quite clear that—although he was totally up for the drama because it drew attention to the struggle—he felt that he himself wasn't worthy of being heroic, because there was nothing unusual about him."

"I went to chat to other people who knew him, and they said Alan Bates is one of the smartest and most inspirational people they'd ever met," the actor added. 

In terms of how to watch Mr Bates vs the Post Office in the United States, the show will make its premiere on PBS's drama anthology Masterpiece at 9pm Eastern tonight. Along with the TV broadcast, the series will be available to stream for free on PBS.org, the PBS MASTERPIECE Prime Video Channel, or the PBS App on devices such as Android, iOS, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TV, Chromecast and Android TV.

Following the huge success of Call the Midwife season 13 and Call the Midwife Christmas specials 2024, Call the Midwife season 14 is now here.

We are now reunited with all our Nonnatus House favourites after returning to Poplar in the 1970s for more twists, turns and, of course, expectant mothers and babies!

Fans of the show were thrilled when the series was recommissioned by the BBC for another season, and show creator Heidi Thomas told the BBC that she was 'overjoyed' that the programme had been green-lit until 2026. "We are a family behind the scenes, on the screen, and in front of the telly, and I'm thrilled that we're all heading into the 1970s together."

Call the Midwife season 14 release date

Call the Midwife season 14 started in the UK on Sunday, January 5, 2025, on BBC One at 8pm, and the season finale, aired on Sunday, March 2. All 8 episodes are now available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Season 14 will start in the US on Sunday, March 30 at 8/7c on PBS. New episodes will be broadcast on Sundays. Each new episode will be available for free streaming from the day of broadcast until June 17, 2025.

Call the Midwife season 14 plot 

Fans know that season 13 ended on a cliffhanger with Matthew Aylward going to New York on a new business venture without his wife after his finances took a worrying turn. The final episode of series 13 saw Trixie calling Matthew and agreeing to move out there with him and Jonty... but Trixie is back in Poplar for season 14 and has returned to her midwifery duties.

Aside from the Aylwards' marriage drama, the series will be heading into the 1970s, where the show will undoubtedly tackle more taboo subjects and mark momentous historical moments.

Call the Midwife season 14 episode guide - warning spoilers below!

Episode 1 - It's March 1970 and the team supports a pregnant teenage girl whose parents believe in an immaculate conception. Demonstrations cause havoc for the Nonnatus team, whilst Nancy’s relationship is put under pressure when she comes face to face with her future mother-in-law.

Episode 2 - It’s April 1970, and Trixie oversees the care of Arlene, an unmarried mother who is heavily pregnant and under the care of the district midwives. Rising rates of gonorrhea in the district cause alarm when Zeta, a young Cypriot expectant mother, is diagnosed. She is utterly distressed and bewildered by her diagnosis and her husband Mehmet denies any extramarital affair. Meanwhile, Cyril and Rosalind volunteer together at the homeless shelter - could their friendship be blossoming into something more?

Episode 3 - Rosalind oversees the care of first-time mum Norma and husband Don after she delivers their baby and immediately realises that all is not right. Joyce is assigned to the district round and meets Alf, who was recently discharged from hospital after a prostate procedure. Living in the same block of flats is single mum Nerys, and Joyce discovers that Nerys is leaving her children home alone when she goes to work. Elsewhere, Sister Julienne calls on Trixie’s managerial skills when she is summoned to a meeting with Dr Threapwood to discuss the renewal of their contract with the council

Episode 4 - The Nonnatus team prepares for the arrival of a new nun and trainee midwife, Sister Catherine. Under Nurse Crane's supervision, Sister Catherine is thrown into a complex case that sees her new skills put to the test. Dr Turner is taken aback when a mother of seven Peggy Wrigley asks for an abortion and soon her situation takes a turn that no one could have predicted. Also, Doctor Turner and Miss Higgins are disappointed by the lack of signatures on their measles vaccination clinic sign-up list, but soon a mother who knows firsthand what measles can do to a child helps raise awareness among local mothers of Poplar.

Epsiode 5 - It's the start of the summer holidays, and Sister Veronica arrives at an abandoned warehouse, looking for a family to discuss the children’s truancy. The mother is pregnant, but her imposing husband is refusing a midwife visit. Shelagh makes a house call to see a man who lives inside an iron lung after being paralysed from a polio infection. His wife is his main carer, and Shelagh notices that she's looking jaundiced. Meanwhile, the 1970 Commonwealth Games has everyone excited. Children play in the street with their makeshift hurdles and javelins, To keep the games safe, Violet enlists the help of Cyril, who has returned from Jamaica - but is he with Lucille?

Episode 6 - It's September, 1970. Joyce faces a difficult situation when a mother suffers postnatal complications but takes an instant dislike to her and finds an official complaint made against her, elsewhere the bin men of Poplar strike, leading to an outbreak of Weil’s disease that leaves many poorly and Rosalind fighting for her life. Also, Cyril’s life is turned upside down when a shocking death rocks Nonnatus House, and leaves him with a very big decision to make.

Episode 7 - It’s October, 1970 and the midwives help a family with a history of drug addiction, but despite their best efforts, there is tragedy just around the corner. Dr Turner and Shelagh take the final steps in May’s adoption which sees the family finally get the happy ever after they deserve, and royalty comes to Poplar when our Nonnatus House favourites are invited to a film premiere! But it isn't all popcorn and smiles, because Joyce also finally faces the disciplinary board after a patient made a formal complaint about her - will she get the result she is desperately hoping for?

Episode 8 - The season finale saw wedding bells ringing in Poplar as Nancy and Roger's big day arrived, but there was an extra special surprise when Nancy arrived back in Poplar and revealed she was seven months pregnant! Despite wanting to hide her pregnancy until after she was married, the baby had other ideas and she soon found herself giving birth to a baby daughter in the back of an ambulance with Nurse Crane on hand to help. Cyril and Rosalind also got their happy ever after when they shared their first kiss, and Sister Catherine said her vows to God and she was officially welcomed into the Order.

Call the Midwife season 14 cast 

All our Call the Midwife favorites are back for the new season.

While Trixie Franklin (Helen George)is back for season 14 it has been revealed that Olly Rix won't be returning as her husband Matthew Aylward. But don't worry - you can still see Olly on BBC One, because he has recently joined the cast of Casualty as a new surgeon.

Jenny Agutter is back as Sister Julienne with Linda Bassett back as Nurse Phyllis Crane, Rebecca Gethings as Sister Veronica, Georgie Glen as Miss Higgins, and Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan. Newly qualified midwives Joyce Highland (or should we say Claudine Warren?!) played by Renee Bailey and Rosalind Clifford played by Natalie Quarry are also returning.

Megan Cusack is also back as Nurse Nancy Corrigan with Francesca Fullilove as Nancy's daughter, Colette Corrigan.

Doctor Turner (Stephen McGann) and his family are back including his wife Shelagh Turner (Laura Main) and son Timothy Turner (Max Macmillan). Alice Brown is also returning as Angela Turner, April Rae Hoang as May Tang and Edward Shaw as Teddy Turner.

Cliff Parisi returns as Fred Buckle, along with Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle and Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson.

Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) is also back, but sadly there is still no news on whether his wife Lucille Robinson, played by Leonie Elliott, will return after her exit in Call the Midwife season 12. There hasn't been any closure in their relationship and Cyril still mentions her on screen, so you never know...!

We also have a new face joining the team this season as The Rig star Molly Vevers joins the cast in episode 4 as Sister Catherine, a studious Scottish postulant, who is preparing to take her vows as a nun and is also training a midwife.

Speaking of her character, Molly told us: “She’s been a nurse in a children's hospital so she has an affinity with children. And she’s bright, cheerful and capable with a sense of humor, but she's also navigating whether it’s the right decision to enter into the life of a nun and she’s wrestling with that sacrifice. She's from a close family, and although it’s her calling, it's difficult to go against their wishes…”

Call the Midwife season 14 filming news

Call the Midwife's social media pages are great at updating fans with behind-the-scenes news and we know filming for the Christmas episodes is done and production is underway for the rest of season 14.

A recent post saw the social media team, go behind the scenes to capture some of the backstage action... but most excitingly the caption on the video read "Series 14 is now racing towards the completion of filming! Not long now till the countdown to our new Christmas Special....!" which means the wait for season 14 is almost over. Hurrah!

Another post saw a photo of Rebecca Gethings (Sister Veronica) filming a scene on her rounds in the district - but with season 14 being set in 1970 the landscape is very different from the Blitz-damaged landscape that we first saw in the early seasons.

Another post from the summer saw a picture of the cast on set in the Nonnatus House dining room, with the caption: "We're delighted to report that our team are now well into filming for our fourteenth series of Call the Midwife - as this exclusive behind-scenes pic shows! What better place to show you our progress than in the Nonnatus House dining room - perhaps the location most central to our drama, and the room where all our stories really happen."

What happened at the end of Call the Midwife season 13?

Call the Midwife is no stranger to dramatic season finales and the Call the Midwife season 13 ending was no different. There was panic for Trixie fans as she struggled to cope in the wake of Matthew leaving and turned to prescription sleeping tablets to help her. However, some tough love from her brother Geoffery soon got Trixie back on the straight and narrow, and the episode ended with her calling Matthew in New York and telling him she was coming out to be with him.

Meanwhile, Miss Higgins found her world turned upside down after being reunited with her secret son, Victor, who she fell pregnant with after moving to India when she was 21 and falling in love with a tutor called Krishnan. However, there was heartbreak on the horizon as Victor and Millicent's reunion was short-lived when it was revealed he was suffering from kidney disease. After just days of catching up on a lifetime of missed moments, Victor sadly passed away, leaving Miss Higgins devastated.

Over at Nonnatus House, there was drama for Joyce Highland when her estranged husband, Sylvester, tracked her down in Poplar and started blackmailing her for her pay packet in exchange for keeping quiet about the fact her real name is Claudine Warren. However, Rosalind caught Sylvester out and confronted him, leading to Joyce revealing everything to her colleagues and Sister Julienne offering her support.

There was also a happy ending for the Turners after they were worried they were about to lose May when her birth mother requested a meeting with her on the phone from Hong Kong. Thankfully the call ended with her asking if the Turners would officially adopt May, leaving the family thrilled.

Call the Midwife season 14 is on the way, and there's been an exciting update about the new episodes from star Georgie Glen.

We are expecting season 14 to arrive in January 2025 following the annual Christmas episode, and it's looking likely as production is about to commence on the next installment, with Georgie confirming the happy news.

The Miss Higgins star told Radio Times: "We begin filming at the end of April", although we don't have an exact timeframe for production.

She added that she was "so looking forward to going back, not least because it's an actor with a job on the horizon, but also because it's such wonderful company". 

Georgie went on to tease the follow-up of some big cliffhangers, adding: "To know we're all going to reunite again, it's lovely. And there were a few cliffhangers at the end of the episode, various other storylines, and who knows where they're going to go."

Fans will likely be on the edge of their seats waiting to find out what's next for the residents of Poplar, especially Trixie (Helen George) and Matthew's (Olly Rix) marriage which has been strained due to financial issues.

In the Call the Midwife season 13 finale, we saw Trixie on the phone with Matthew, telling him that she is coming to America to be with him, so it is expected that season 14 will explore this in more detail.

Georgie praised this particular storyline and said that Call the Midwife was "not a fairy story". She added: "It's real life, and things happen in real life," she explained. "It's not beyond reasonable doubt that someone who appears to have plenty of funds [could hit a rough patch].

"You don't know who's swimming commando until the tide goes out. So it's these unexpected things that make the show real."

But she doesn't know how the future will look for the couple, adding: "They're dealing with a huge challenge and who knows how that will pan out."

Call the Midwife season 13 episode 8 sees a stranger arrive on Miss Higgins' doorstep that will change her life forever...

As well as a blast from the past for Miss Higgins, the final episode of the series also sees Trixie make a huge decision about her future, while the Turners face the reality that they could lose their foster daughter, May. 

Here is the Call the Midwife season 13 ending explained...

After joining our Nonnatus House favourites back in the spring of 1969 at the start of season 13, it is now firework night, and while Violet is planning to go to a display in her role of Major, Fred just wants a quiet life and to mark the occasion at the Nonnatus House party.

Trixie is still in a bad way after Matthew's departure to New York, and while she might be getting more sleep since Dr Turner prescribed her some sleeping tablets, it looks like she might be getting a bit too dependent on them and oversleeps, missing the start of her shift at work.

Later that evening, Geoffrey bumps into his sister and is troubled when she turns down his offer of going to the fireworks together. Not in any mood to celebrate, Trixie heads home alone. 

Elsewhere, Miss Higgins is shocked when she gets a knock at the door and finds a woman standing there who she has never seen before. It turns out to be Mariam Chopra, the wife of someone called Victor Chopra - news that leaves Miss Higgins shaken to the core.

Clearly in shock, Millicent asks Phyllis, who is visiting her for the evening to leave, and Phyllis is confused about the whole thing. So much so, that she sits in the car outside and doesn't want to leave her friend alone. Meanwhile, inside the house, Mariam tells Millicent that Victor, who was born and lives in India, is in London, and it is soon revealed that Victor is actually someone who Millicent knows as John - and he is her son. 

Shocked to know that the child that she was forced to put up for adoption when he was a baby is nearby, Miss Higgins eagerly asks if he is well and Mariam reveals that if she is okay with it, Victor would like to visit her. Miss Higgins is thrilled and as Mariam leaves Phyllis goes in to see her friend and Miss Higgins tells her everything. 

It turns out that she went to India when she was 21 and got a job at a lending library where she met a tutor called Krishnan and they had a secret relationship, which resulted in Millicent falling pregnant. John, or Victor as he is now known, then went on to be adopted. 

With Victor in London for just two weeks he is keen to meet his birth mother and buys flowers for his visit to see Miss Higgins. Both Millicent and Victor are clearly nervous about the meeting, but as soon as they see one another, they share a warm hug and quickly set about catching up on the missing years. Millicent is thrilled to learn that she also has a grandson called Harry, who is training to be a dentist.

However, as they are chatting over tea and cakes, Phyllis is concerned when she looks down and notices that Victor's ankles are swollen. While Phyllis and Mariam leave Millicent and Victor to talk, Phyllis asks Mariam about her husband's health and it turns out he has kidney disease.

Victor and Millicent walk along the Thames, where Millicent tells him all about his father and why he ended up being put up for adoption. But as they talk, Victor's health takes a turn for the worse and he is rushed to see Dr Turner.

In desperate need of dialysis, Victor stays at Millicent's house and she looks after him, glad to be able to mother him at last.

Meanwhile, the Turners are worried when they get a call from the foster agency and they're told that May's mother wants to talk to her urgently from Hong Kong. Convinced they are about to lose her, they ask Sister Veronica to use her contacts in Hong Kong to find out more about May's mother, who is called Esther Tang, and her circumstances. 

As they head to the meeting at the foster agency with May, they are all nervous, especially when they find out from Sister Veronica that Esther has just had another baby, this time a boy. 

At the meeting, May talks to her birth mother on the phone with Sister Veronica translating, and Esther asks questions about how happy May is in England and whether she loves her foster family. When May reveals that she would like to stay with the Turners Esther decides she would like them to adopt her. 

Thrilled to have May as a permanent part of the family, the Turners are over the moon and it spurs Patrick and Shelagh to tell Angela that she is also adopted. The news goes down well and the Turner house is a happy one once again. 

Things are going from bad to worse for Trixie as she struggles to cope with the demands of work as well as her crumbling home life. She is distant at work and takes caffeine pills to keep her awake after she fails to sleep. However, the pills make her jittery and she manages to set fire to her apron while testing a urine sample and it is only Sister Julienne's quick thinking that saves her from serious harm. 

Geoffery takes her home and gives her some tough love, throwing away her tablets and asking her when she last went to an AA meeting. When Trixie admits that she hasn't been for a long time, he does his own meeting with Trixie and makes her realise that she should chase after love and go to New York to see Matthew. 

As a result, at the end of the episode, we see Trixie on the phone with Matthew, who is clearly missing her, and she tells him that she is coming to America to be with him. The news leaves him thrilled and Trixie looks like a weight has been lifted off her sounders. 

Back at Millicent's house, Victor has taken a turn for the worst and he is now on oxygen under Dr Turner's instructions. There is a moment of happiness when Harry turns up at Miss Higgins' door and she is thrilled to meet her grandson for the first time. 

Phyllis gives the family something to smile about when she puts together a slide show using photos that Mariam gave her of Victor's life. They don't have much time together though and soon Victor loses his battle with his illness and dies, leaving everyone heartbroken, but Millicent is grateful that she was there for his first breaths and then also his last. 

There is also trouble for Joyce as Sylvester keeps blackmailing her for money and she is forced to hand over her wage packet, desperate to keep her secret hidden. However, when Rosalind sees Sylvester with Joyce's pay packet, clearly stamped with the Nonnatus House logo, she knows something is wrong and confronts him. He is rude and knowing he has been caught out, he tells Rosalind to ask Joyce who Claudine is. 

At Nonnatus House, Rosalind asks her friend for the truth and Joyce reveals everything to Rosalind and Nancy, admitting her real name, her past with Sylvester, and that he is her abusive husband. They are shocked and persuade her to tell Sister Julienne, something that Joyce is worried about. 

However, Sister Julienne is very supportive and tells her that they are going to report Sylvester to the police and also that her job at Nonnatus House is safe. When Sylvester then comes to blackmail Joyce for more money, she tells him where to go - and now her secret is out, he can no longer have a hold over her. 

The end of the episode sees everyone celebrating at the Mother of the Year awards, but as all the children give heartfelt speeches about why their mum is the best, it is Sister Julienne who wins after everyone celebrates the hard work and dedication she has given throughout her life. She might not be a mother, but she is like a mother to everyone in her care. 

The next episode of Call the Midwife season 13, which is the season finale, airs on Sunday, March 3 in the UK at 8pm on BBC One. All previous episodes are available on BBC iPlayer. 

In the US, season 13 will start on Sunday, March 17, 2024 on PBS.

It has been reported that fans could be saying goodbye to a beloved character at the end of Call the Midwife season 13.

It has been claimed that Helen George could be leaving her role as Trixie Aylward on the show, following dramatic scenes involving Trixie and her husband, Matthew (Olly Rix)

After marrying at the end of Call the Midwife season 12, the couple's marriage has been strained after losing all their money, plunging them into financial difficulty.  

This all came to a head when Matthew discovered that Aylward Estates, the business he inherited from his late father, was in serious debt. On top of this, he lost his income from the company as well as his place on the board.

Matthew's financial difficulties have taken a toll on Trixie too, who was especially hurt to learn that he had been lying to her about how bad things had become, continuing to try and buy nice things for her. 

Things seemed to improve when Matthew remembered he'd bought two warehouses from a friend in New York, and that these could potentially be sold. But he decided that he wanted to go into partnership with his friend Chester, which would see him moving to New York, with a return on his investment likely happening within five years.

Because of this, it is understood that Trixie could be accompanying Matthew overseas to New York, saying goodbye to London for now. This is bittersweet news for fans, as Trixie and Matthew might be able to have a fresh start, but it does mean saying goodbye to everything they've built in the UK. 

One show insider reportedly told The Mirror: "This series ends with the firm impression that Trixie is off to America to start a new life with her husband and young step-son. But the good news is her trip will be fleeting, and Helen will be back to carry on next year."

It isn't clear how Trixie's rumoured return to Poplar will happen if she does return for Call the Midwife season 14, but one possible scenario is that Matthew and Trixie call it quits, while he stays in the US. Or could it be that Trixie decides to return while Matthew stays overseas for a while? Either way, we can't wait to see what happens!

Call the Midwife season 13 reaches a dramatic climax as Miss Higgins is put to the test like never before.

The final episode, airing on BBC One this Sunday (March 3), sees the prim doctor’s receptionist, played by Georgie Glen, receive a shocking blast from her past after a surprise visitor at her door delivers news that leaves her reeling. 

As Miss Higgins tries to adjust to the information she’s given, emotions run high, but Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) proves a tower of strength.

Call the Midwife always has powerful season finales. What did you think when you read the script for this episode?

“Heidi Thomas, the show’s creator and writer, said, ‘I hope you like this storyline.’ But she didn’t say more! So when the script landed, I opened it with trepidation and it was left field and unexpected.

“I felt concerned because I’d been handed a baton that I had to see through, but that’s also what happens to Miss Higgins; she has to step up. I hope I’ve done it justice.” 

How does Miss Higgins feel when she receives a knock at the door out of the blue?

“Rocked and at sea. She has always been guarded and protective; her manner and sense of etiquette are like armour. Suddenly, that is pierced, light is shone on a moment in her past. And there is no hiding place from that…”

Will this storyline change her?

“She will shrink back to the surgery reception and her filing! But there will always be a chink in that armour now, it’s not something she can put away. It will also change other people’s attitudes towards her – it’s a major shift.”

Nurse Crane is hugely supportive of Miss Higgins, isn’t she?

“Yes, Phyllis helps her. She’s a friend in need and takes the initiative. It’s a privilege to share this storyline with Linda, who’s one of the best actors of all time. Linda couldn’t have been more supportive. She’s the most wonderful, quiet, professional presence and she guided me through, like Phyllis does for Miss Higgins.” 

What do you enjoy about their friendship?

“I love it because it has evolved. It was a slow burn, they didn’t take to each other to begin with, and they have different backgrounds. It’s like a Venn diagram where a large part of them will never meet but the overlapping middle bit is strong. 

“There’s an understanding between them and to have a friendship between ladies in the autumn of their years on TV is wonderful.”

You and Linda go back a long way, don’t you?

“Our paths crossed briefly in the past but then Calendar Girls [the hit 2003 film in which they both starred] was the first time we spent a lot of time together, while filming in Yorkshire. That was special. And when I joined Call the Midwife, the readthrough was nerve wracking, but Linda came over straight away. It was lovely having her welcome me into the fold, and it has been a joy having a friendship develop in the show.” 

We often see Miss Higgins behind her desk, do you get proprietorial about it?

“Yes! I’m happy there and woe betide anyone who plays with my stapler – it’s not on! Megan Cusack, who plays nurse Nancy Corrigan, does it on purpose. She’ll bang things or fiddle with the paperclips and then look at me, challenging me to respond – which I do!”

What do Miss Higgins and the show mean to you?

“It has made me a better person, playing Miss Higgins. It’s a gift to play a long-running character. She is slightly acerbic and judgmental, and she takes herself seriously. But I admire her discipline. I’m a very chaotic person. Clutter grows around me!

“And the show has integrity. Sometimes people are dismissive and think it’s sentimental, it really isn’t. In its way, it’s hard-hitting. It doesn’t shy away from unpleasantness but it has heart and honesty. That’s why people hold it close. It leaves you with hope.” 

Call the Midwife concludes its 13th season on Sunday, March 3 at 8pm on BBC One in the UK and the season will begin on Sunday, March 17 on PBS Masterpiece in the US.

Call the Midwife season 13 has left fans in a panic after it looks like Helen George could be leaving her role as Trixie Aylward on the show. 

Fans of the show will know that Trixie and Matthew (Olly Rix), who tied the knot at the end of Call the Midwife season 12, have hit a bump in their marriage after losing all their money. 

The couple have faced financial misery recently when Matthew discovered Aylward Estates, the business he inherited from his late father, was in serious debt and he has since lost his income from the company as well as his place on the board. 

At first, Matthew kept his money worries from his wife, pretending there was nothing wrong, while she was writing cheques for fancy news sofas and even a new car after passing her driving test. 

However, the truth was revealed earlier in season 13 and the couple vowed to work through their troubles together. But sadly it seems they each had a different idea of how to make things better and their relationship has now well and truly hit the rocks. 

Why did Matthew leave Call the Midwife?

The penultimate episode of the series saw Matthew going to see Sister Julienne and trying to convince her to sign a document transferring the ownership of Nonnatus House over to the Order before he was declared bankrupt and the decision was no longer his to make. 

However, things got worse when a bailiff came to reclaim his car without his consent. As the man told Matthew that the car was the property of Aylward Estates and so therefore being reclaimed, Matthew and Trixie were left red-faced as everyone watched on.  

Later Matthew remembered two warehouses he bought from a friend in New York under his name and not the Aylward Estate, leaving Trixie thrilled about the prospect of selling them and using the money to secure their future. However, Mattew told her that he wanted to go into partnership with his friend Chester, who lives in New York, and that they should see a return on his investment in five years. 

But, things got worse when Matthew then announced he was going to New York to secure his investment and that he was taking Jonty with him. He asked Trixie to go as well, but it was all too much, too soon, and he left without her.

Matthew and Trixie parted on heartbreaking terms, but they both admitted that they still loved one another.

Will Trixie leave Call the Midwife?

Understandably there was worry that Trixie could follow Matthew to America and now we have seen the final episode of the series, we know that Trixie does plan to leave Poplar and follow her husband to New York. 

However, there is no need to panic, because although Trixie decides to reunite with Matthew, this won't be the last we will see of the character. 

An insider told The Mirror: "This series ends with the firm impression that Trixie is off to America to start a new life with her husband and young step-son. But the good news is her trip will be fleeting, and Helen will be back to carry on next year."

So while Trixie might be off to reunite with Matthew, Helen George won't be leaving the series. Trixie is set to stay on the show despite Matthew's departure, which will be welcome news to fans. 

Last year it was rumoured that Olly Rix would be leaving his role as Matthew Aylward, and while that rumour has now proved to be true it is worth mentioning that the door has also been left open for Matthew to return. 

Could there still be a chance we could see Olly Rix back on our screens in future series? We will have to wait and see.

Call the Midwife season 13 episode 7 sees Matthew and Trixie's already fragile marriage hit another devastating setback. 

As well as Trixie and Matthew's marriage hitting the rocks, this season's penultimate episode also reveals a huge twist from Joyce's past and Rosalind deals with the toughest case in her career to date. 

Here's everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 13 episode 7... 

The episode opens with newly qualified Rosalind and Joyce putting on their new midwife uniform, ready for their first day in their new role. Everyone celebrates as the pair come down for breakfast in Nonnatus House, presenting them both with their new maroon cardigans. But that's not the only good news... Joyce has also been awarded the Violet Albany Prize, which is given to the East London midwife who qualifies with the highest marks in her exams - and to top it all off, there is a photographer from the Gazette there to take their photo for the special occasion.

But while Joyce celebrates, things are gloomy for Matthew and Trixie who are still struggling with their financial woes. As Matthew drops Trrixie off for work, he goes to see Sister Julienne and tries to convince her to sign a document transferring the ownership of Nonnatus House over to the Order before he is declared bankrupt and the decision is no longer his to make. 

However, Matthew's bad morning is about to get even worse when a bailiff comes to reclaim his car outside Nonnatus House without his consent. As the man tells him that the car is the property of Aylward Estates and so therefore being reclaimed, Matthew and Trixie are left red-faced as everyone watches on.  

Meanwhile, as Rosalind and Nurse Crane hold a talk for young women working at a toy factory, they meet Alison Casey, a young mum-to-be who has been hiding her pregnancy from her work and mum at home.

However, Alison's clearly been hiding the fact she is having a baby for a long time because she soon goes into labour in the middle of the night and Miss Higgins finds her on the street and takes her straight to the maternity home. 

Still in complete denial about what is happening, Rosalind talks Alison through her labour and she gives birth to a baby boy, who she calls Martin. However, her mum is soon called and she is shocked that her daughter has managed to conceal a pregnancy for so long, but not as shocked as she is when Doctor Turner tells her that Alison has Syphilis, which has also been passed on to her newborn baby. 

There is confusion about Alison and her baby when she tells Rosalind that she's never had a boyfriend, however, the penny drops when the teenager says if she has Syphilis then so will her mum, and it turns out that Alison has been abused by her stepfather, Stanley, for years.

With her mum refusing to properly acknowledge what her husband has been doing, Alison and her baby are taken in by a foster family, where the pair will make a fresh start.

Meanwhile, Joyce is shaken when a man calls the surgery asking for someone with the surname 'Warren'. Despite claiming she doesn't know of anyone with that name, Joyce is clearly spooked when her cousin then turns up at Nonnatus House to see her. 

Joyce puts on a front and pretends to be pleased to see him, but it is only when she walks him to the door for him to leave that the truth is revealed. Joyce's real name is Claudine Warren and Sylvester is her husband, who she fled from after he became violent and abusive.

Unfortunately for Joyce, Sylvester was able to track her down using the picture of her in the Gazette, and now he is demanding they get back together or he will tell everyone the truth about her past.

Putting Sylvester's threats to one side, Joyce goes to Gerri Godfrey's home for her first solo homebirth. It turns out to be a traumatic birth which Joyce handles brilliantly, but she is shocked to find Sylvester hanging around outside the patient's home where he blackmails her for money or he'll tell everyone that she has qualified for her midwifery exams under a false identity.

Things aren't any better for Trixie and Matthew as the episode continues. At first, it looks like their prayers might have been answered when Matthew remembers two warehouses he bought from a friend in New York under his name and not the Aylward Estate. 

Trixie is thrilled about the prospect of selling them and using the money to secure their future, but she is soon left upset when Mattew tells her that he wants to go into partnership with his friend Chester, who lives in New York, and that they should see a return on his investment in five years. 

Trixie is annoyed that he expects them to live off her nurse's wage for the next five years, and is further annoyed when Matthew admits he has already let Jonty's nanny go, a decision that Trixie thinks they should have made together. 

However, things only get worse when Matthew announces he is going to New York to secure his investment and that he is taking Jonty with him. He asks Trixie to go as well, but it is all too much too soon and she doesn't want to uproot her life in Poplar, so he leaves without her. 

They leave on heartbreaking terms, with both admitting that they still love one another, but their marriage clearly going in seperate directions for the both of them. 

Is this the end of the pair? Or is Trixie about to leave Poplar behind and follow Matthew and Jonty to New York?

Call the Midwife wouldn’t be the same without kindly mechanic-turned-social worker Cyril Robinson.

Call the Midwife season 13 has seen Cyril, played by Zephryn Taitte, continue to try to rebuild his life after his wife Lucille (Leonie Elliott) departed for Jamaica to recover from a breakdown in Call the Midwife season 12. 

As he has thrown himself into work, Cyril has started a new career as a child welfare officer and in this week’s episode of the BBC One period drama, he tries to aid a young mum in a harrowing predicament.

Here, in an exclusive chat, Zephryn Taitte tells us about the challenges ahead for Cyril in Call the Midwife…

Call the Midwife always explores hard-hitting stories. Tell us about the tricky assignment Cyril is involved with this week…

“This is one of his first cases where he can make his mark. He has to deal with strong emotions and it's tough because it’s an ugly situation. Cyril must do what's best for his client but he takes a deep breath first. Cyril is a lovely man and emotionally intelligent, he steps in whenever people are in need.”

What does Cyril’s career as a social worker mean to him?

“Cyril feels this is a calling because he’s a caring guy. He first joined the housing sector at the council, but he saw where he could really make a change and this is a natural progression. He’s learnt a lot from watching the nuns and their vocation, and this has become his. Plus Poplar has given him so much and this is his way of giving back. It's lovely seeing Cyril blossom. He’s had ups and downs but now he has purpose.”

Was there any research you could do into social work?

“I've been talking to people who have worked in the community and my mum used to work for Victim Support, where she dealt with a lot. I also work with social workers and youth workers myself, so I've drawn from my own experience. That helps in terms of seeing how patient and caring you have to be.”

It sounds like community work is as important to you as it is to Cyril…

“It does feel like art imitating life and I aspire to be more like Cyril! I try to help people as much as I can and to assist youngsters in enriching their community. I'm constantly looking at ways of giving them a chance, especially if they’re from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

"I work with Pan Intercultural Arts [an organization bringing drama and arts to young people] – I was a shy kid with a speech impediment, but getting into drama opened so many doors. And we also do charity events with The Sheriffs’ and Recorders’ Fund, which helps [ex-offenders’] rehabilitation.”

There are some lighter scenes this week where Cyril helps his landlord Fred Buckle (Cliff Parisi) deal with an unexpectedly huge delivery of turnips! What was that like to film?

“Cyril will do anything for Fred! They’re a lovely double act. We had to go back and forth with barrows of turnips and it became arduous because we were filming late at night and we had to keep stopping if a turnip rolled out! But it was good fun, as always, with Cliff.” 

Do you enjoy Cyril’s relationship with the Buckles?

“It's lovely. Cyril’s fond of them, they’re like a second family, they’ve embraced him. Violet [Fred’s wife, played by Annabelle Apsion] is his confidant and Reggie [Fred and Violet’s ward, played by Daniel Laurie] is like a little brother. 

“We have a giggle on set, we’re always joking around. And I’ve learnt a lot from them. This was my first big TV role, so I watched them and they’ve shown me how it works!”

Is Cyril still hoping to reunite with Lucille?

“Lucille’s his heart, he wouldn’t want to let that go, he’s in love with her. He knows she needed to find herself, but he has hopes that she will return. I get a lot of people coming up to me saying, ‘When’s Lucille coming back? She shouldn't have left you!’ Bless!” 

When she departed, were you worried that Cyril would be leaving too?

“Yes! I was like, ‘What are they going to do with me?!’ So I’m grateful they kept me on and I like where they have taken Cyril. I was hoping he wouldn't just be pining after Lucille and then go to Jamaica after her. There’s a role for him in Poplar as he tries to make a life for himself.” 

Finally, Cyril has found a furry companion in his cat Nigel. Do you enjoy working with Diesel, who plays him?!

“Nigel is a nice addition to Cyril’s life. But Diesel just likes to focus on food, so he ignores me. He’s not bothered about anything but himself! He wants to get his paw in a tin of pilchards and leave. We’re friendly though, and he sometimes gives me a little wink before he moves on!”

Call the Midwife continues on Sunday, February 25 at 8pm on BBC One and the season will air in the US on PBS Masterpiece from Sunday, March 17.

Spoiler pictures for the next episode of Call the Midwife season 13 have revealed there is more heartache on the way for fan favourite Trixie Franklin (Helen George). 

The character has been facing a rough patch in her marriage with new husband Matthew Aylward recently after Call the Midwife season 13 episode 6 saw her finally discover the true extent of their financial woes. 

Viewers have known for some time that Matthew has been secretly hiding crippling money worries from Trixie, while she splashes the cash on new sofas and a fancy new car. 

However, the most recent episode of the drama that aired on Sunday, February 11, saw Matthew finally come clean to his wife about their troubles after attending an Aylward Estate board meeting where he discovered the business that he inherited from his father is in debt of more than £250,000 and is on the brink of ruin.

After being told that he was not only being struck off the board with immediate effect but his salary from the estate was also being stopped, Matthew had no choice but to go home and tell Trixie everything.

Despite being shocked, Trixie was understanding and vowed to support her husband. However, new images for the episode airing on Sunday, February 25, which is the penultimate episode of the season, show her facing more heartache.

Spoilers for the new episode have revealed that Matthew is set to be stunned to learn a bailiff is taking back his car, and when it happens in front of all their friends, the couple are publicly humiliated.

And, to make matters worse, Trixie hasn’t been sleeping well and confides in Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) who prescribes sleeping pills - but is it enough to help her through this rough patch?

Speaking of what is to come in this storyline, Olly Rix, who plays Matthew told us that there is plenty more drama to come for the couple: “There’s miscommunication and misunderstanding. If you were watching somebody's marriage doing this, you'd be saying, ‘Talk it through, you can save it.’ But no matter how often they’re trying to get things together, they keep missing each other. 

"They're both sympathetic, there's no villain, but they just diverge. Every well-meaning attempt they make somehow makes it worse.

“It's heartbreaking, moving and was emotionally exhausting to film," he continued. "The walls felt like they were closing in. It was tough to get through. Everybody was wiped out by the end of each filming day. I don’t think it'll be fun to watch but it will be affecting if we’ve done it to the standard I think we have.”

There have also been rumors that Olly's character, Matthew, is set to be written out of the show at the end of the current season, which comes to a close in the UK on Sunday, March 3. While his exit is yet to be confirmed by the BBC, it sounds like Trixie and Matthew's honeymoon period is well and truly over.

Call the Midwife continues on Sunday, February 25 on BBC One at 8pm and will air in the US from Sunday March 17 on PBS Masterpiece.

Who Killed Malcolm X? is probably our favorite documentary on the list. The docuseries not only follows his life, but also dives into his death, helping launch the reinvestigation into his murder. Upon prosecutors looking into the homicide again, Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam were exonerated for the murders, a feat long overdue.

Malcolm X: Make It Plain (PBS & YouTube)

Malcolm X: Maike It Plain is a documentary created by PBS, although it's not as easy to find on the network's webpage. But no worries, the video is listed on both YouTube and Vimeo. Here is a brief synopsis of the film: 

"This in-depth film portrait goes straight to the heart, mind and message of one of the modern era's most complex figures. Actress Alfre Woodard narrates the special.

"This film chronicles Malcolm X's remarkable journey from his birth on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, to his assassination at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City on February 21, 1965. His compelling story is told through the memories of people who had close personal and working relationships with him: prominent figures such as Maya Angelou, Ossie Davis and Alex Haley; Nation of Islam associates, including Wallace D. Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali (Netflix)

Blood Brothers: Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali is a more unique look at the civil rights leader's life as it parallels it with the greatest boxer of all time. Furthermore, the Netflix documentary follows the deep friendship that once existed between the two. Here is the official synopsis of the movie: 

"Blood Brothers tells the extraordinary and ultimately tragic story of the friendship between two of the most iconic figures of the 20th century: Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all time, and Malcolm X, the Nation of Islam's — and black America's — most incendiary and charismatic leader.

"This was the unlikeliest of friendships — the brash Olympic Champion who spoke in verse to the amusement of the white press and the ex-con intellectual-turned-revolutionary who railed against the evils of white oppression and dismissed sports as a triviality. But their bond was deep, their friendship real."

I Am Not Your Negro (Peacock, Roku & Tubi)

The Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning documentary is based on renowned writer James Baldwin's manuscript, Remember This House. It explores race relations and the struggle for civil rights in America through the recollections of not only Malcolm X, but Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Medgar Evers as well. 

Here is a synopsis of the documentary: 

"Director Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished — a radical narration about race in America, using the writer's original words. He draws upon James Baldwin's notes on the lives and assassinations of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. to explore and bring a fresh and radical perspective to the current racial narrative in America."

The documentary is available on Peacock for subscribers and is free on Roku and Tubi. 

Call the Midwife season 13 episode 6 sees Matthew get devastating news, while Rosalind and Joyce face their final exams. 

There is trouble for Matthew when he finally tells Trixie the truth about his financial woes, while two young boys are abandoned at a church by their desperate mother. But will anyone be able to track her down? 

Here's everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 13 episode 6... 

The sixth episode of season 13 opens with Nancy asking for time off from the rota so that she can attend a Raise The Roof meeting, a campaign for better pay for nurses. Sister Julienne points out it is Phyllis who sorts the rota, and Nancy is worried about asking her because she knows she and Nurse Crane are on different pages when it comes to campaigning for pay rises. 

Meanwhile, Rosalind is worrying about her upcoming final exams and is so nervous she knocks her coffee over at breakfast. 

However, everyone's minds are soon taken off exams and campaigns when two young boys are found abandoned in a church, having seemingly been left there by their mother. Sister Veronica and Shelagh help care for the boys while the police, and Cyril in his new role as welfare officer, are called. 

Dr Turner checks the boys over and although they have nits and scabies, they seem well-fed and otherwise in good health. Soon they are taken to a temporary foster mother while the authorities try and track down their mother. 

Elsewhere, Nurse Crane is helping a Poplar local called Gladys Bell as her elderly father comes to the end of his life. She is very matter-of-fact about his death and soon packs up his belongings and heads out to work as a debt collector. However, it is clear she's not in the best of health herself and is suffering from severe stomach pains. 

Doctor Turner examines her and refers her to a specialist immediately. Gladys is annoyed, telling them she doesn't have time to be ill. 

Meanwhile, Matthew gets an urgent call from his mother, telling him there is an Aylward Estate board meeting later that he must attend. Matthew, who has been secretly hiding crippling money worries from Trixie, knows that the meeting isn't going to go well, however, an oblivious Trixie is more worried about collecting her new car later that day and makes Matthew promise to be there as she wants him to be her first passenger.

The meeting is worse than Matthew thought and he is told the company now has a debt of more than £250,000 and is on the brink of ruin. Matthew promises he did all he could with the business after inheriting it from his father, but his mother, who is also on the board, tells him he is not only being struck off the board with immediate effect but his salary from the estate is also being stopped.

After Matthew is a no-show at the car showroom, Trixie heads home and angrily confronts her husband, telling him they had no record of her car being ordered. He is forced to confess that he has lost his job and been struck from the board and also reveals there was no car because when he went to order it there was a problem with the payment. Despite being in shock, Trixie is understanding about what has happened and vows they will get through this together as they're married for 'richer or poorer'.

However, Trixie is heartbroken when Matthew admits they also won't be moving into their fancy new apartment because he doesn't own the flat that they currently live in, he only owns the lease which expires in five years. This is news to Trxie and she is upset. 

Elsewhere, we see a pregnant and desperate mum down at the docks, who is considering taking her own life by jumping into the water, but before she can, she blacks out and collapses. 

Trixie and Rosalind are passing and attend to the woman, whose name is Deirdre, and it soon turns out that she is the mother of the abandoned boys after Rosalind finds some red ribbon in her pocket, the same ribbon that was tied around the boys' wrists. 

Deirdre is taken to the maternity hospital where she is told she is overdue and anemic. She admits she loves her boys dearly and only abandoned them because she didn't want them living on the streets after they were all thrown out of their home.

Gladys is told she has a rare form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. While she maintains that she has never worked with the dangerous substance, the specialists work out that her father's old work where he drilled into asbestos is the cause, and that she would have got it secondhand from him when he came home with it still on his work clothes.

While Gladys's cancer is terminal, doctors ask her to take part in a new medical trial which could potentially see her live for a few more months, but she refuses and breaks the news to her children that she is dying.

Trixie thinks she has a breakthrough when an old family friend has a job opening, and she excitedly tells Matthew, but instead of being pleased he shouts at her for broadcasting their money troubles and that he needs time to get used to the idea himself before telling everyone. The pair have a huge fight and it looks like they have well and truly hit their first rough patch in their marriage. 

Deirdre meets with her boys when Cyril brings them to a picnic, and she is thrilled to hold them. However, their reunion is short-lived when she goes into labour. At the maternity hospital, things are progressing slowly, with the midwives thinking she is trying to hold onto the baby for as long as possible, worried that as soon as it is born it'll be taken away from her like the boys. However, she gives birth to a baby girl, and Cyril arrives with the news that she can keep her daughter, and if she proves to be a fit mother, she has a chance of getting her abandoned boys back, too. 

Rosalind helps Deirdre write a letter to her boys before she heads home to do more revision for her exam.

Meanwhile, Gladys' son, Jason, is upset when he finds out about the trial that his mum has turned down. Sister Monica Joan goes to visit Gladys and talks her around, and eventually, Gladys agrees to have the treatment.

Matthew and Trixie call a truce as they sit and do their household accounts together, but will this truce last?

Also, the pupil midwives all nervously sit their exams, and as the results arrive a few days later, their Nonnatus House colleagues gather around as they open their letters. They all pass and they're offered permanent roles at Nonnatus House, which they eagerly accept - now a fully-fledged part of the team.

Call the Midwife season 13's Trixie and Matthew Aylward are heading for choppy waters as the period drama continues.

The caring midwife and the dashing businessman tied the knot at the end of Call the Midwife season 12 and life seemed blissful for the newlyweds. But in recent weeks, trouble has been brewing as Trixie (Helen George) has been torn between her work and her home life, while Matthew (Olly Rix) has been struggling to run Aylward Estates, the property company he inherited from his late father. Now, as the extent of Matthew’s secret financial difficulties is emerging, what will the future hold?

Here, Helen George and Olly Rix reveal what to expect as Call the Midwife’s best-loved couple face a crisis … 

Call the Midwife loves to throw a curveball into the mix! Were you shocked when you learnt that the Aylwards would have money troubles? 

Helen George: “It was a complete surprise. Because of the time period, Matthew feels the pressure and the need to take fiscal responsibility without including her. But Trixie wants to be involved in the decisions and has a modern outlook on a relationship so that's hard for her.”

Olly Rix: “He enjoys giving things to her as well, because he’s a man of that time, and it's punishing for him to not be able to do that. I’m fond of Matthew, he’s a good man. He's always dealing with something heavy, it's not an easy ride! And now there are major complications. They’ve had this fairytale wedding, but now comes the total frustration and ruination of that fairytale.”

Will this show a new side to Trixie?

Helen George: “Trixie enjoys the title of Lady Aylward and at first glance, she’s all about dresses, fun, frivolity and money. But that's a misconception and this now unearths the truth behind their relationship. Matthew maybe thinks that [the money] is what she's in love with, and not him. Trixie sets about proving that to be a myth. It’s wonderful to discover her true love for him. But he can’t hear it. There are some cracking scenes about how they can carry on in their relationship – or can't…”

Can they work things out?

Olly Rix: “There’s miscommunication and misunderstanding. If you were watching somebody's marriage doing this, you'd be saying, ‘Talk it through, you can save it.’ But no matter how often they’re trying to get things together, they keep missing each other. They're both sympathetic, there's no villain, but they just diverge. Every well-meaning attempt they make somehow makes it worse…”

What has it been like to shoot this storyline?

Olly Rix: “It's heartbreaking, moving and emotionally exhausting to film. The walls felt like they were closing in. It was tough to get through. Everybody was wiped out by the end of each filming day. I don’t think it'll be fun to watch but it will be affecting if we’ve done it to the standard I think we have.”

Helen George: “Yes, we needed air by the end of it! The scenes were hard to work on and they feel different because they almost could be modern – the marital relationship is pretty much the same, whether it’s 50 years ago or today. It’s like a kitchen sink drama and so visceral.” 

Finally, there have been lighter moments this year for the Aylwards, particularly when Matthew tried to teach Trixie to drive. Was that fun to film?

Helen George: “Yes! Luckily, the car is an automatic, but I only passed my test in real life a couple of years ago, after I had my second baby [Lark], and I haven't really driven since, so the car is sometimes towed for those scenes. They don't quite trust me with a 1960s vehicle!”

Call the Midwife continues on Sunday, February 11 on BBC One at 9pm and will air in the US from Sunday March 17 on PBS Masterpiece. 

Call the Midwife season 13 episode 5 sees a community trip to the beach take a shocking turn when May finds herself in grave danger after going missing in the sea. 

Elsewhere there is heartbreak for ayoung couple when they get devastating news about their two daughters, while Trixie is oblivious to Matthew's mounting money worries. 

Here's everything that happened in Call the Midwife season 13 episode 5... 

The episode opens with good news because not only has Trixie (Helen George) finally passed her driving test, but Violet has also organised her first official event as Mayor of Poplar and is taking everyone to the seaside! 

However, Matthew is still hiding his money worries from everyone. First, he looks uncomfortable when Trixie puts pressure on him to get her a new car now she has her driving licence, and again when Violet asks him for a sizeable donation towards the community trip to the beach. As Matthew tries to politely tell their new Mayor that he doesn't have the money to donate right now, an oblivious Trixie jumps in and tells Violet that of course, they will write her a cheque. 

Cyril also has a new job as a Child Welfare Officer and his first role is to go along to a new play scheme that Nonnatus House has set up for local families. He heads to meet the mothers and children, announcing that they are all invited to the seaside trip. However, there is one expectant mum causing concern for the midwives called Lindi Webster, who is very young and already has a daughter, Danielle.

As the day of the inaugural beach trip arrives, everyone piles onto the coaches and a convoy of vehicles, each one decorated with colourful balloons, is soon heading for the beach.

Despite the weather being typical for the British summertime, everyone is having a lovely time and Phyllis is busy taking photos of everyone enjoying themselves. However, things soon take a dramatic turn when Lindi goes into labour and Phyllis and Miss Higgins are forced to drive her and Danielle back to Poplar in record time, so that Lindi can give birth at the maternity home and not in the back of a car!

Luckily they make it back just in time, and Lindi gives birth to a beautiful daughter with the help of Phyllis. Soon Lindi's partner, Melvin, turns up with all his mates, who get thrown out by a very stern Miss Higgins. But despite their young age, the couple are the picture of happiness with their new arrival. 

Back at the beach, however, things take a tragic turn as the Turners' foster daughter, May, goes missing during the commotion of Lindi going into labour. With May and her sister Angela nowhere to be found, Patrick and Shelagh are beside themselves with worry and everyone joins in the search for the girls. 

Soon Angela is found safe and sound, but Shelagh's blood turns cold when she asks where May is and Angela says she went into the sea. Meanwhile, along the shore, Joyce has seen May struggling to stay afloat in the waves and races into the sea to save her, along with Cyril who also spots the commotion. The pair bring her to shore and Dr Turner revives May, who despite swallowing salt water appears to be okay. 

However, things only get worse for the Turners when May complains about feeling unwell that evening and Dr Turner puts it down to her ordeal that day, telling her the best medicine is sleep. But the following morning, May is still not well and Timothy realises that she has water aspiration after seeing a similar case in training. 

May is rushed to the hospital where she is gravely ill, and all Patrick and Shelagh can do is wait as the next 24 hours are crucial. 

Meanwhile, as Trixie puts pressure on Matthew to get her a very expensive new car, it is clear he is panicking and hiding his money worries from her. 

Phyllis develops her photos from the beach and is surprised to see in one that Danielle has a mark on her eye, which could indicate there is something wrong. She shows it to Dr Turner and he agrees, referring both Danielle and baby Michelle to a specialist, leaving Lindi and Melvin worried. 

The young parents are overwhelmed when the specialist uses lots of big words to describe what is wrong with their girls, but they soon realise both their children are seriously ill with Retinoblastoma, a rare type of eye cancer that can affect young children. The parents are horrified when they learn Danielle will need her eye removed, and their newborn daughter, Michelle, will need radiotherapy. 

While Lindi impresses everyone by stepping up and being the mum that her girls need, Melvin takes the news badly and storms out of the hospital. Phyllis later goes to find him at work and gives him some advice, and soon he realises he needs to step up for his family and proposes to Lindi. 

Back at the Turner house, things have taken a brighter turn when May responds well to treatment and is allowed home. But sadly, the family's ordeal is far from over, because they then get a visit from Miss Williams from the Hong Kong adoption agency. 

The visit appears to go well, but later Shelagh and Patrick are beside themselves when they get a phone call asking them to come into the agency offices to discuss the incident with May. May's mother, Mrs Tang, has been on the phone asking about what happened at the beach, and the Turners are devastated they are now going to face a three-month formal review.

At the end of the episode, Lindi and Melvin are thrilled when they are told Danielle's cancer hasn't spread. The couple seem to be working as a team to do the best for their children, and Phyllis and Sister Veronica are impressed. 

But while things have taken a positive turn for Lindi and her family, Shelagh is seen crying in Sister Julienne's office, terrified that she is going to lose May after what happened on the day at the beach. Is the Turner family facing more heartache?

Call the Midwife star Olly Rix, who plays Matthew Aylward, has given a worrying update on his time on the show following reports last year that he would be leaving at the end of Call the Midwife season 13. 

In a shock twist, it was claimed by The Sun that Olly had been written out of the period drama, with an insider reportedly saying: "The news of Olly’s departure has left the cast and crew stunned and upset.

"They all thought he was a mainstay on the series after his prominent wedding scenes with Helen last season. Some feel it’s a bit unfair and he is well-liked by everyone. It felt very out of the blue. There is concern now among the remaining cast about not wanting to upset production and people are keeping their heads down.”

While Olly's departure from the show is yet to be confirmed by the BBC, OK! has reported that Olly's dropped hints that his time on Call the Midwife could be coming to an end. He told the publication: "It’s great being part of the Call the Midwife family. For now.

“You’ve got to watch to the end of this series. There are a few surprises ahead, a few bumps in the road. We’ll see how much longer I’m part of the family!”

While Olly could be teasing us with a red herring, things are looking fraught for his character Matthew in recent episodes of the show. 

Despite only being married to Nonnatus House community midwife Trixie (Helen George) for eight months after the pair tied the knot at the end of Call the Midwife season 12, their marriage has hit a bump in the road. 

Episode 4 of the current season saw the couple argue after a call from Matthew left Trixie distracted at work, leading to her making a mistake at work that could have left a new mother in grave danger. The pair, who also have a son called Jonty from Matthew's first marriage, then fell out when Matthew tried to convince his wife that she should give up her job as a midwife and focus on charity work. 

In this weekend's episode, we will see Trixie finally pass her driving test and put pressure on Matthew to purchase a car but, while he puts on a brave face, it is clear he is feeling growing financial pressure.
