Video game adaptations have been some of the biggest new movies of 2023, and Gran Turismo looks set to continue that trend, though its release has just been delayed to later in the month. 

Following on from The Last of Us earlier this year and PlayStation Productions' first movie, Uncharted, Gran Turismo sees the studio turning to the landmark PlayStation racing simulator franchise from Polyphony Digital for its next project.

Gran Turismo is a coming-of-age drama that introduces us to a skilled young GT player called Jann Mardernborough, who wants to make it as a real racing driver. 

From what we've seen so far, it looks like the Gran Turismo movie is determined to bring us right into the middle of the on-track action, and could well be one of the most exciting summer blockbusters on the way.

Here's what we know about the Gran Turismo movie right now.  

Gran Turismo release date

Gran Turismo speeds into theaters this summer, though a little later than initially expected. 

Previously, the film was set for a wide release on August 11, but Gran Turismo will now hit US theaters on August 25 amidst a slew of scheduling changes put into place by Sony during the ongoing actors and writers' strikes. 

Gran Turismo is currently playing in the UK.

What is Gran Turismo about? Is Gran Turismo based on real life?

Unlike some of the other big video game-inspired titles that have been released recently, Gran Turismo is based on real events. The film's synopsis reads:

"Gran Turismo is based on the unbelievable true story of a team of unlikely underdogs - a struggling working-class gamer (Archie Madekwe), a failed former racecar driver (David Harbour), and an idealistic motorsport executive (Orlando Bloom). Together, they risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world. 

Gran Turismo is an inspiring, thrilling and action-packed story that proves that nothign is impossible when you're fueled from within."

Jann Mardernborough was the third and youngest person to win the GT Academy competition in 2011. GT Academy was a partnership operated by Nissan, PlayStation and Gran Turismo developers Polyphony Digital that allowed Gran Turismo players the chance to compete for an opportunity to become a bona fide professional racing driver in real life.  You can find a full profile of Mardernborough's racing career (both during GT Academy and beyond) on the Gran Turismo website.

Gran Turismo cast: who stars in the new PlayStation movie?

Midsommar, See and Voyagers star Archie Madekwe leads the Gran Turismo cast as Jann Mardernborough, the aspiring racing driver at the heart of the film. 

The film also stars Stranger Things' David Harbour as Jann's racing trainer, Jack Salter, and Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings) as Danny Moore, a motorsports marketer whose character is reportedly based on the founder of GT Academy, Darren Cox.

The biggest surprise from the cast list has to be former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner playing Jann's mother, Lesley; Djimon Hounsou is playing his father, Steve Mardernborough.

Is there a Gran Turismo trailer?

A new Gran Turismo trailer arrived on July 20. This one shows off more of Jann's skills behind the wheel, including evading the police on the streets of London with some of his mates and a snapshot of how his racing skills translate to the real track. We also get a taste of the intense training regime he's put through at GT Academy, and a shot of a terrifying crash. Check it out below:

The official Gran Turismo trailer arrived on May 2. In it, we're introduced to Jann's journey, and just how tough it is to make the journey from his bedroom to the racetrack...even if Jack Salter doesn't seem to believe that any of the GT Academy racers really have what it takes. And even after he proves himself to be the best of the recruits, Jann goes on to make new rivals after becoming Team Nissan's newest recruit...

At the start of 2023, Sony Pictures released a sneak peek at the Gran Turismo movie. Introduced, by the star, it shows some on-track racing action and features members of the main cast hyping the film up something fierce. Check it out below:

Who directed Gran Turismo?

District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is behind the camera for Gran Turismo. Aside from District 9, he's also directed Elysium, Chappie, and the sci-fi horror flick, Demonic. 

Blomkamp directs from a screenplay written by Jason Hall, with Doug Belgrad, Dana Brunetti and PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan serving as producers for the project.

A previous version of the film was reportedly in development as early as 2013, with that film said to be helmed by Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy director, Joseph Kosinski.

Gaming consoles aren’t just for playing video games anymore, but for enjoying multiple types of content, including streaming. This can include Peacock, which is available through both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 gaming consoles (if you can get your hands on the latter).

Created by NBCUniversal, Peacock is a streaming service that features thousands of hours of NBCUniversal produced TV shows and Universal Studios movies, among which includes The Office and the Harry Potter franchise, as well as a number of Peacock Originals like Girls5eva, the Saved by the Bell reboot and Rutherford Falls. Current NBC shows are also on the platform, with their latest episode appearing shortly after airing on broadcast.

In addition, Peacock can offer live sports that air on NBC-owned networks, including the Tokyo Olympics. In fact, on top of providing full event replays, Peacock will feature live coverage of events like gymnastics and track & field for free, while men’s basketball will be available for Peacock Premium subscribers.

Peacock has three different subscription tiers available to consumers — a free version that is ad-supported and does not include live content or Peacock Originals; the $4.99 ad-supported version of Peacock Premium; and the $9.99 ad-free version of Peacock Premium.

How to watch Peacock on PlayStation

Before you get started adding Peacock to a PlayStation, you should first make sure that you are signed up for the service. If not, you can do so at PeacockTV.com.

Once that is taken care of, to download the Peacock app onto a PlayStation you visit the PlayStation Store on the gaming console, then select “Apps.” In the Apps section, you can either scroll to find the Peacock app or search for it in the search bar, selecting it when you find it. Then download the Peacock app. After it is installed, launch the app, log in using your Peacock credentials and start enjoying all that the streaming service has to offer.

In addition to the PlayStation gaming console, Peacock is available to download through Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, an Xbox, an LG, Samsung or Vizio TV, as well as on a computer.

Pedro Pascal is one of the most sought-after actors right now, and he’s just picked up another huge role.

According to Deadline, Pedro Pascal will play Joel in the adaptation of the PlayStation smash-hit franchise The Last of Us coming to HBO and HBO Max.

Rumours had circulated that Mahershala Ali had been offered the role, but these were not true. Ali had been considered for the show, but a deal was never reached. 

Pedro Pascal is best known for his performance as Din Djarin, the lead role in the hugely popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Recently, he has also played villain Max Lord in Wonder Woman 1984, Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones and Javier Peña in Narcos. 

This casting news came just hours after child actor Bella Ramsey was announced as Joel’s counterpart, Ellie.

Bella Ramsey rose to prominence as Lyanna Mormont, a fierce young noble from Game of Thrones. She has also voiced the titular character in Netflix’s animated series Hilda and played Mildred Hubble in the first three seasons of the CBBC series The Worst Witch.

The Last of Us is a Sony PlayStation series of video games developed by Naughty Dog which was released on the PS3 and PS4. Set in the post-apocalypse, it follows the unlikely duo of Joel and Ellie as they travel across the USA and avoid terrifying infected monsters and rival human colonies at odds with one another in a wasteland that is slowly being reclaimed by nature.

Joel is a grizzled survivor who is tormented by his past failures as a father. He's tasked with smuggling a teenage girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone and across what once was the United States to a faction called the Fireflies.

His ward, Ellie, is a 14-year-old girl who is immune to the mutated strain of the cordyceps fungus at the root of the pandemic and represents perhaps the last hope for a cure. During the game, the two grow closer and closer, developing a close bond out of what was supposed to be just a simple job. 

The TV adaptation of The Last of Us is a co-production between HBO, Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog. The show is written by Neil Druckmann (the game’s director) and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, and the pilot episode will be directed by Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov. 

The Last of Us will be available on HBO and HBO Max.

After months of wondering when the PlayStation 5 would head to market and what the cost of the console would ultimately end up at, we finally got some answers at the PS5 Showcase put on by Sony. We also got a look at some of the sharp new titles headed to the platform upon its release. 

First and foremost, PlayStation 5 will release November 12th in the US and Canada, and November 19th around the world at two price points. The digital only console will come in at $399, with the disced option hitting $499. No big surprises there, even if we had begun to wonder if the release date was a myth!

Final Fantasy XVI: Awakening

This one, like the rest of the Final Fantasy franchise, will remain a PlayStation exclusive. The trailer drops a small tease line with, “The legacy of the crystals has shaped our history for long enough…”

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

The much-anticipated follow up to the Marvel's highly successful Spider-Man game will be coming your way during the 2020 holiday season. Sony didn't give much of a tease on this one, with only the release timeframe hinted at in the description, but we still got a look at some of the game! 

Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach

Like Miles' much-hyped title, we don't know a ton about this new Five Nights at Freddy's jam, either. While some of the older properties were a bit lackluster, internet reaction seems to be positive. Check out the trailer for yourself. 

Demon's Souls

We did get a little bit of a snippet on Demon's Souls! Here's the description from Sony: 

In Demon's Souls, venture into the fog-ridden kingdom of Boletaria. Here, death is not the end, and again the challenge seems insurmountable. But this dark world draws you in nonetheless, with its sumptuous sights and chilling sounds. Oddworld: Soulstorm

Not to be redundant, but this one looks a little weird. Not necessarily a bad thing, particularly this early in the process, but some of this trailer looks like old graphics mashed together with contemporary ones. All the same, looks just curious enough that it's worth checking out.

While we now know the November 12th release date, pre-orders remain a bit of a mystery. Howevery, PlayStation did just tweet this.

Hulu With Live TV — now the most popular live TV streaming service in the United States — is now available on PlayStation 4.

That's it. That's the tweet. Now those who use the best gaming platform on the planet (we're not at all twisting anyone's nipples with that one) can watch live TV via Hulu all the way, controller in hand. That's in addition to the massive on-demand library you can find on Hulu — which just grew by an order of magnitude or two thanks to the addition of FX, which now lives its on-demand live on Hulu.

Hulu with Live TV runs $54.99 a month. Those who don't already have it can enable it in their account settings. Those who already have it on another device can just start watching on their PlayStation 4 — and presumably one day on the PlayStation 5 .

What took so long to get Hulu with Live TV on PlayStation? Mainly PlayStation Vue, which was Sony's own live TV competitor that shut down at the end of January.

Here's what Hulu had to say about the whole thing :

We're excited to announce that starting today, Hulu + Live TV will be available on PlayStation 4 consoles.

PlayStation 4 users will now be able to subscribe to Hulu + Live TV, gaining access to both live and on-demand programming from channels such as ESPN, FOX, NBC, and ABC so they can enjoy all their news, sports and entertainment in one place.

Current PlayStation 4 users who already have Hulu can easily switch to Hulu + Live TV through their account settings on Hulu.com. Viewers who are already subscribed to Hulu + Live TV will also now be able to access and watch live channels through the Hulu app on PlayStation 4.

Hulu with Live TV is also supported on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Echo Show, Roku, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Android and iOS, Nintendo Switch, Chromecast, and smart TVs from LG, Samsung, Vizio and more.

Best answer: No, you can not watch Apple TV+ on PlayStation currently. At launch, you will be able to watch Apple TV+ in the TV app on Apple devices and Samsung Smart TVs. More support is coming soon.

Apple has been sharing more details about their new Apple TV+ service as they approach the November 1 launch date. As people watch more previews of the shows that will be available, they are thinking about how they can watch the service. Will you be able to use a device you already have, like your gaming console? Can you watch Apple TV+ on PlayStation?

Apple TV+ details

Apple TV+ is a standalone streaming service from the company behind iTunes. Instead of buying shows that have already appeared on other networks, Apple TV+ will have new original shows, and they will all be available as part of your subscription. From "The Morning Show" with Jennifer Anniston to "Home Before Dark" from Hilde Lysiak, viewers should expect a wide variety of options.

Apple has taken a new approach to this service, similar to its successful Apple Music. Instead of locking this content up exclusively to their own hardware, Apple TV+ will be available to watch on some other streaming TV platforms. You may wonder if this will include the streaming devices you use, especially if you are an avid gamer.

PlayStation meets Apple TV+?

PlayStation has become quite popular as a streaming platform beyond games. Players are already used to the interface, and they already have it plugged into an HDMI port on their TV. Systems like the PlayStation 4 are plenty powerful enough to handle streaming video, and it is more efficient to have one as an all-in-one device. But will it be ready to watch Apple TV+ this fall?

No, Apple TV+ will not be available to watch on PlayStation devices. Apple has not included this, or any other gaming console, on the list of devices supporting the service now or in the future.

How to watch Apple TV+ on your TV

If you do want to watch Apple TV+, you will have options even if your PlayStation isn't one of them. You can watch Apple TV+ on Apple devices with the TV app, including modern iPhones, iPads, and the latest Apple TV devices. It will also be available at launch on Samsung Smart TVs.

Apple TV+ is coming soon to Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, along with smart TVs from LG, Sony, and Vizio.

Best answer: Yes, Hulu works on PlayStation 4, which runs the latest Hulu app with the newest features and Add-ons available. However, it does not currently support Hulu with Live TV.

TV meets Gamers

Hulu can adapt to the needs of lots of different Cord Cutters. If you need a low-priced option with a huge catalog of the most popular TV shows and movies, Hulu has it. If instead, you want a live TV streaming service, with the biggest channels in live sports, news and entertainment, Hulu has that too. If you even want a way to manage a la carte access to premium channels like Showtime and HBO on one bill, Hulu also has you covered.

Beyond this variety of features, a streaming service needs broad device support. You want to be able to watch all these shows, movies, and live streams on your favorite device. A streaming service can go from perfect to ruled-out if it doesn't work with the device they use.

Sony's PlayStation 4 is the reigning sales champ among game consoles. While it's a gaming dream machine, owners have wanted more from this powerful device that is also taking a prime HDMI spot on their main TV. This has led to streaming apps coming to the platform, starting with Sony's own PlayStation Vue service. Is there room for competition? Does Hulu work on PlayStation 4?

The Latest but not Live

Yes, Hulu is works on PlayStation 4. Well, with one big feature left out.

Hulu's Latest app, which runs on the PlayStation 4, has a design that matches the new Hulu webpage look and feel. The Latest app supports all of the latest features, including

• Multiple Profiles
• My Stuff
• Premium Add-ons

However, on PlayStation 4 there is no Live TV or DVR support. We don't have an official reason why it's missing. Multichannel News reports that "Hulu said it's open to working with Sony to make Hulu's live service available on PlayStation consoles". It appears to be less of a technical issue than a business decision, but without confirmation, we can't say for certain.

You can still watch Hulu's on-demand catalog in a quality app on your PlayStation, so it's still worth it to give Hulu a try. We are big fans of free trials as a way to test all the streaming things. It is a great way to find the best services for your needs, and Hulu has a seven day free trial. Then binge out on the best they have to offer from Bob's Burgers to Vikings!

If you're anything like me you love a well-organized screen. Currently, your home screen on your PS4 will show all of your games and apps in order of the ones that were last used. Well. … Everything from my computer to my phone is organized, so why not my PlayStation 4 as well?

Thankfully, ever since the 4.0 update to PlayStation, this is entirely possible.

So, if you appreciate a bit of organization in your life, here's how to get your screen pristine!

Creating folders in the main menu

1000 games or apps will fit into each folder.

You can start making a folder at any time on your PS4. After they are made, you can add any one of the games and apps to each folder. This way you will be able to separate them by genre!

1. Select the game or app you want to add to a folder and press the "options" button on your DualShock controller.
2. Select the "Add to folder" option.
3. Name your folder based on the organization you plan on using and select "OK".

Creating folders in the Library

Creating folders from the main menu isn't the only place you'll have the option. You can also do this directly from your Library!

1. Select "Library" from your home menu.
2. Select the "Folders" tab.
3. Select "Create New" then name the folder what you wish.
4. Select "Content" and add the content you wish to be in this folder and press confirm. 5.Then select "OK"

Adding more content to a folder

1. Press the options button when hovered over the desired folder.
2. Select "Edit"
3. Select the "content" option.
4. Select each game and app you wish to add to a folder.
5. Select "Confirm"

Deleting a folder

This will work from either your main menu or the Library, as long as you have the option to select the folder in question!

1. Press the "Options" button on your DualShock controller while you have the Folder in question highlighted.
2. Select "Delete Folder Only." This option will ONLY delete the folder and re-locate the games and apps back to being on your home screen.
3. Select "Delete folder and content." This option will delete the folder AND the games and apps inside. If you select this option you will have to re-download all of your games and apps, so make sure you select the right one!

Casting through PlayStation Vue

Another amazing option that PlayStation Vue has is the ability to hook up your casting device to your TV and run it through your PS4. Any supported device can be connected through your console. These days YouTube has been opening a lot of channels when it comes to their viewing content. There are a few different options when it comes to YouTube content, and all of them are at pretty fair prices.

There is YouTube Premium, which gives you access to all the content that YouTube creates. For $11.99 a month all of their TV shows to their movies will be available to you whenever. Or, if you are already a Google Play subscriber, your YouTube Premium account comes for free!

Now on YouTube TV, which sounds like it will only give you access to TV shows. But, a subscription to YouTube TV also gives you access to titles that were created by other companies. This way you can watch movies like Maleficent without having to spend the $2.99 to rent it. (Of course, if you're not interested in a monthly subscription, renting is always a one time fee you can foot the bill on!)

Welcome to the PlayStation family! Now that you've got your console it's time to set it up and check out all options you have for family entertainment. Streaming is one way to bring friends and family alike together with your favorite movies and shows. Whether you're making jokes the whole time or silently engrossed, TV is one way to get the people together.

Setting up your PlayStation

First things first you want to make sure your PlayStation is ready for streaming. After you've got your power cord and HDMI plugged in properly, you will need a connection to the internet to be able to stream. If you haven't gotten your device connected yet, here are the steps how.

Connecting through a LAN cable

1. Select "Settings" from the main menu.
2. Select "Network"
3. Select "Set up Internet Connection"
4. Select "Use a LAN Cable"
5. Select "Easy"

Connecting through WiFi

1. Select "Use WiFI"
2. Select "Easy"
3. Find the name of the network you want to connect to and select it.
4. Configure your settings to your preferences.

If your WiFi network can not be found after configuring settings, select "Set upi Manually" instead and configure them by hand.

Using PlayStation's Movie & TV menu

As of March 29, 2018 PlayStation has given it's TV & Video section a complete makeover. Instead of having to jump between different apps, the menu will show all of your streaming content available. All you have to do is sign into your apps and then refresh the TV & Video page. This makes finding all of your favorite titles significantly easier!

How to download streaming apps

1. Go to the PlayStation Store and find the apps you have subscriptions to.
2. Download it to your PS4.
3. Refresh your TV & Video page to show all the available content.

Using PlayStation Vue

Here we have a pretty stellar subscription service available directly from your PlayStation Main Menu. There are 4 different subscription options from $39.99 to $74.99, depending on how many channel options you would like available to you. To find movies click on the Channel you want to watch (HBO, Showtime, etc) and select the movie option from your menu bar!

Setting up PlayStation Vue

1. Go to the PlayStation Store .
2. Choose which subscription service is best for you.
3. Add in your payment options.
4. Open the PlayStation Vue app from the Movie & TV menu.
5. Find the movies and shows you want to watch and select them.

Already have a casting device?

Any supported device can be connected through your console. I've included below the instructions for the two most popular casting devices, the Roku and Google Chromecast!

How to connect your Roku to the PlayStation Vue

1. Add PlayStation Vue from the Channel Store on your Roku.
2. Open PlayStation Vue from your Roku.
3. Select "Activate your device". (If you don't have a PlayStation Vue account, follow the link above to check it out!)
4. Go to psvue.com/activateroku
5. Sign in with your PlayStation Network ID
6. Enter the activation code shown on your Roku device

2. Open PlayStation Vue while connected to the same Wifi as the Chromecast

Currently, there are three options when it comes to which PlayStation 4 you can buy. Choosing which PS4 is right for you not only comes down to the budget you have but what you intend on using it for. Sometimes spending the extra buck to increase your performance is well worth it, and sometimes you might not need the extra bit of performance.

Well, here I'll help you figure that out which PS4 is best for you! Let's check out your available options, what they have to offer and how much the bill for each will run you for. But do realize that the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro really are your only options, if you're going to buy new.

PlayStation Pro for the best performance

If you're an avid gamer, streamer or VR player, you want the console that is going to give you the best performance for everything you love. Using a PlayStation Slim for VR might work, but you'll get the best performance from a PlayStation Pro. For an extra $100 you can ensure you'll have the absolutely best performing PlayStation console that is worth every penny.

So not only are you getting upgraded gear with HDR support but that additional GPU support will do wonders for your VR play. This will also help your usual games look that much better and spend less time buffering the images. On top of this the PlayStation Pro also has an Optical Out option that the Slim doesn't offer. So not only does it have a higher performance for your shows and movies, but it allows you to set up the best audio possible for them as well.

Not just that, but the Pro has a 4K streaming ability the other consoles don't have. Finally, you can put your fancy TV to use with your gaming console! As a PlayStation Pro owner, I have never regretted the money spent on ensuring everything I avidly use my PS4 for is better, and I'm sure you won't either.

PlayStation 4 Slim for everyday use

The PlayStation Slim isn't much different from the original console. Sony is all too known for coming out with a slimmer version of their consoles not too long after a new one releases. So if you're looking to get a PlayStation for your casual fun the PlayStation slim is perfect for you. Not only are the specs just about the same but the price is lower. This way you'll be getting the same PlayStation experience as the original console for less money.

In terms of working on a budget, the decision is almost a no-brainer. Despite the price difference mentioned earlier you will also save money monthly by using less power. Then when it comes to your gaming you'll still be able to use the Slim for your PlayStation VR because you still get the same amount of USB ports, upgraded to 3.1 at that.

Even if you're a fan of having the fancy looking PS4 bundles like the one listed above it's still cheaper to buy the PlayStation Slim and spend $12 on Amazon for a designed cover. This way, while you're saving money, you'll be confident knowing that it's going to a pretty great console.

The final verdict

If you're looking for a casual console for your kids to play some games on, or just want something to play for an hour every day to unwind than the PlayStation Slim is for you. Between prices and specs of the original PlayStation console it's all but a steal that you should take advantage of.

If you're looking to get more in to VR, want the Optical Out, the best streaming performance and the ability to do 4K streaming then the PlayStation Pro is the way to go. The extra money you spent is well compensated for the performance that you will be receiving.

Ultimately it comes down to what you want to use your PlayStation for, and what kind of budget you're working with. I hope this helped you decide what console is best for your home!

Between Best Buy and Amazon the prices for a PlayStation 4 console are just about the same. Out of the two I would recommend buying your PS4 from Amazon and take advantage of that Amazon Prime membership that gets you 2-day shipping. This way you know you're paying the best prices and waiting the least amount of time for your packages to arrive!

You can find the PlayStation Pro for $399 or the PlayStation Slim for $298 . Not just that, but they also have a 4-year for $26.88 and 3-year protection plan for $15.61 for the Pro console. For the Slim console you can get a 4-year protection plan for $14.33!

Buying in store

If you'd much rather prefer going to pick up your console yourself you can always go to your local Walmart. Here you can find the PlayStation Slim for a cheaper price of $269 and the PlayStation Pro for $399 .

Protection plans are also offered here! For the Slim you can add a 3-Year protection for $28.00 or a 4-Year protection for $37.00. Then, for the Pro you can add s 3-Year protection for $39.00 Or a 4-Year protection for $53.00. Buying in person at a Walmart might seem cheaper, but after checking the rates for a protection plan the Walmart prices will actually cause your final price to be more than Amazon asks for.

Buying Refurbished at GameStop

Gamestop offers the PlayStation Pro for a slight discount as a refurbished console. Buying anything refurbished is not available online so you will have to find a GameStop near you . Be sure to not only check out the return policy but ask the sale rep to clarify it for you. At check out see what device protection plans your local GameStop offers and make sure to utilize it!

PlayMemories is another free app on the PlayStation store. It uses the images and videos on your Cloud to organize them on your PS4. This also makes viewing screenshots and video clips that are already saved to your PlayStation that much easier! While you can not upload media files directly to this app, it will make it a lot easier to show off home-videos of last Christmas during the next family gathering!

Not just that, but it has this adorable feature of displaying a new photo from your drive at the top of the app daily. This way your photos are never forgotten and you are able to see pictures of your kids from when they were babies and relive that glorious moment.
