Rumours are circulating that Sally's stint in prison could be over in the New Year...

Coronation Street’s Sally Metcalfe is set to spend Christmas behind bars – but her New Year is looking a bit brighter after she is set to be released from prison, according to reports.

Sources have told The Sun that Sally, who was jailed for four years for fraud, money laundering and bribery, will be freed in early 2019.

If the rumours are correct, Sally will leave prison after husband Tim turns detective and discovers conman Duncan Radfield is behind the £40,000 scam.

It transpires that Duncan’s wife May is not dead but living in Costa Rica, and he tricked Sally into handing over the council charity money so that he could send it to Central America.

The storyline is similar to the real-life case of John Darwin, who in 2002 fooled police and his sons into thinking he had died in a canoeing accident before relocating to Panama with his wife.

A source said: “Corrie’s writers seem to have read up on John Darwin and written a similar story for the soap.

“Just like John’s fake death and eventual appearance in Panama, Duncan’s wife May ends up in somewhat similar circumstances.

“Tim rumbles Duncan’s plan and manages to clear Sally’s name.”

The action will unfold in the New Year.

Tim was so devastated to learn that Sally had kissed Kevin that he called off their wedding - but Sally absolutely refuses to believe it.

“Sally persistently tells Tim she’ll be waiting in the bistro to marry him as originally planned,” says Sally Dynevor. “She also keeps telling him how much she loves him and how sorry she is…”

Bet Sally regrets that kiss!

“She really does but it was more about her excitement over Kevin [Michael Le Vell] offering her the money to buy the factory than anything else. As soon as the kiss happened, Sally realised it shouldn’t have.”

Why can’t Tim forgive Sally?

“Tim [Joe Duttine] is quite moral and everything’s quite simple for him. The way he sees it, Sally betrayed him – and with his best friend, too. Tim’s very sad but can’t move past this. Sally tries everything to talk him round – Kevin and Sophie [Brooke Vincent] also try – but Tim is determined not to go through with the wedding.”

Sally won’t accept this, though. Right?

“Sally really loves Tim and this has made her realise how much. She’s convinced he will forgive her. Tim’s favourite film is ‘Field of Dreams’ and there’s a quote from it that goes, ‘If you build it I will come’. Sally thinks if she believes enough then Tim will be there.”

And is he?

“Tim says some really horrible things to Sally in the Rovers and is adamant he won’t turn up.”

What happens on the day of the wedding?

“Sally’s in denial. Everyone tells her it’s not happening, that Tim won’t turn up and that they’re really concerned about her, but Sally is determined Tim is going to show. She goes to the bistro and waits and waits... She’s beside herself when Tim isn’t there and doesn’t turn up.”

At what point does it sink in that Tim’s a no-show?

“After quite a while. It finally dawns on Sally that Tim meant it when he said he didn’t want to go ahead with the wedding.”

Do people feel sorry for Sally?

“Sally irritates people, but she’s harmless and deep down people do like her. Yes, I do think people feel sorry for her.”

Would you like to see Tim give Sally a second chance?

“I am really sad for Sally that the wedding isn’t looking likely. She and Tim are such a good couple - even though they are so different; I think that’s why they work so well. It would be so sad for this to be the end of them.”

As Coronation Street fans have seen, Sally Webster is not giving up on Tim Metcalfe - even though he has made it clear that he has given up on her, them, and their wedding because, in a silly, drunken moment, Sally kissed her ex, Kevin (Michael Le Vell).

“Tim warns Sally that she’ll make a fool of herself if she turns up for their wedding at the bistro,” our Coronation Street insider tells us.

But Sally (Sally Dynevor) is a fool for love and refuses to accept that the wedding is off.

Tim (Joe Duttine) has forgiven Kevin for kissing Sally but he won’t forgive Sally for that kiss.

Tim was gutted when Anna (Debbie Rush), drunk and spoiling for a fight with Sally, revealed all about Sally’s secret kiss (she overheard the gossip in Sally’s garden).

He dumped a shocked Sally on the spot and is now doing his best to avoid her.

They’re both heartbroken but Tim is also angry, hurt and humiliated.

Sally thinks everything will be OK if they can just get married and pushes ahead with her wedding plans.

But, sadly, she’s wrong.

“In the bistro, the staff and guests are all embarrassed for Sally as she stands waiting for Tim in her wedding dress,” Corrie reveals.

And, in the end, she has to admit that Tim isn’t coming. He really isn’t going to marry her.

But is that just for now - or for good?

Will distraught Sally be able to win Tim around?

Coronation Street couple Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine, who play engaged couple Sally and Tim, have polar opposite feelings about the upcoming live episode.

Joe told What's on TV he was feeling confident: "Good, positive, up for it, excited... Quite happy to be involved, definitely." "]

Sally, however, was apprehensive: "I was involved in the first live [in 2010] and I was terrified, absolutely petrified, so I think I'm going to be exactly the same that night. But once it was over I was very happy I'd joined in and been in it. You don't want to be the one who messes up Coronation Street that's been going for years and years."

Joe added: "We'll probably have a few sherries afterwards, won't we?"

Rehearsals for Coronation Street LIVE began last week, with the hour-long episode due to screen on Wednesday, September 23. While much of the action will centre around Callum Logan and the Platts, Sally and Tim's wedding may be ruined by the revelation that Sally recently kissed her ex-husband, Kev.

But Sally and Joe had different opinions about the significance of the kiss. Did they think a stray kiss is enough to destroy a relationship?

Sally said: "No, I don't think so."

Joe disagreed. "I do, I think it is."

Sally continued: "Oh, you need to man up."

"You can't go around snogging whoever you want," said Joe

"But it was a mistake!" said Sally.

"Oh I see. You could say that every one is a mistake, couldn't you? 'Sorry it was a mistake!'"

"See, this isn't a great start to a marriage, is it?" laughed Sally.

Coronation Street’s Sally Webster is experiencing Blurred Lines as she prepares to go into business with her ex-husband.

Bossy businesswoman Sally (Sally Dynevor) and mechanic Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) have been in an on-and-off relationship for almost 30 years, but now Sally is engaged to Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine).

However, when Kevin comes to her rescue, saying he would like to invest in her business plan to buy the Underworld underwear factory, Sally gets carried away and kisses him.

But Corrie fans will have to wait until the scenes are broadcast on Friday, August 7 to see how Kevin reacts.

Actress Sally recently hinted that another reunion for the pair was unlikely.

She said: “Of course part of me did want Sally and Kevin to get back together, because I enjoy working with Michael so much.

“But once they introduced Tim, I suddenly thought there was a different dimension to Sally. And if they had put Sally and Kevin back together, what would we have done? I don’t really know where we could have gone with it.”

Does Sally really love Tim?

“Yes, but she’s hoping she’ll be able to change him into the kind of career-minded, successful man she’s always wanted to be with.”

Which is what Kevin’s turning into, it seems!

“Sally’s proud of Kevin [Michael Le Vell] but she wishes he’d been more ambitious when they were married. He wasn’t at all career-minded then. Now they’re apart, he’s doing well for himself and I think Sally’s hoping Tim might aspire to be like Kevin.”

Why does Sally make such a fuss of Kevin at her engagement party?

“I don’t think she realises what she’s doing or that it makes Tim feel inadequate. She’s genuinely surprised by how successful Kevin suddenly seems to be and it’s more of a, ‘Why weren’t you like this when we were married?’ thing.”

Does Sally still have feelings for Kevin?

“There’s been a lot of water under the bridge, but Sally and Kevin still really care for one another. There’s also a little part of Sally thinking, ‘If I’d just stuck with him, then maybe…’ There’s still something there between them.”

Where does this leave Tim?

“Tim [Joe Duttine] is very good for Sally. At the party he says, ‘I might not have fancy suits or be able to take you out for fancy meals, but I love you and care for you, I will always be here for you and I’ll never run off with anyone else’. That’s the moment Sally realises, ‘Yes, that’s more important!’. I hope she goes the distance with him.”

What kind of wedding does Sally have in mind?

“Fancy but inexpensive. She aspires to be like Carla Connor [Alison King] and will get the best she can afford.”

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor says Sally Webster will never have everything she wants in life because her whole character is based on her striving for perfection.

The 52-year-old actress has played competitive wife, mother and businesswoman Sally for almost 30 years, and after having an on-off relationship with mechanic Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) for almost as long, she is set to marry new lover Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine).

But Sally told The Sun it won’t be happy ever after for her character.

“You can never give Sally want she wants, because then there are no stories,” she explained. “You can’t let her run Underworld and you can’t let her have the dream man, because she wouldn’t be Sally if everything was perfect.

“I’m really pleased they’re going to get married – they really like each other – but you know there’s no way they’re going to live happily ever after. They’re going to drive each other insane and I like the drama and the humour that has to offer.”

The soap star is pleased that Sally and Kevin have stayed friends as she loves working with Michael, but she admitted that the Webster’s relationship had run its course.

Coronation Street's Sally and Kevin first got married in 1986, but divorced in 1999 after Sally discovered her husband was having a fling with the Natalie Horrocks (Denise Welch), the mother of his business partner, Tony. Three years later, in 2002, they remarried but separated eight years later when Sally discovered Kevin had done the dirty on her again, this time with the much younger Molly Dobbs, the wife of his new business partner Tyrone. Not only that but Sally discovered that he was the father of Molly’s son, Jack, who Tyrone thought was his.

Sally is in currently in a chalk-and-cheese relationship with window cleaner Tim, while Kevin’s foray into the world of online dating led him to have a romance with former Street resident Jenny Bradley, but it ended when she tried to kidnap little Jack.

Now, however, it looks like a reunion is on the cards for Kev and Sal when the twice-divorced pair have a cheeky snog.

But it was just a matter of time before Kevin had done the dirty again with Molly Dobbs - played by Vicky Binns.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "You’d think that two divorces would put you off trying a third time, but it becomes clear that there are still feelings there. The question is, will it go any further? If the past is anything to go by they could be set for a wedding hat-trick.”

Coronation Street is set for wedding bells once more as Tim Metcalfe will pop the question to girlfriend Sally Webster.

Tim (Joe Duttine) will turn Mr Romantic for his big moment when he plays Take That’s Greatest Day as he gets down on one knee on the cobbles to ask Sally (Sally Dynevor) to marry him, according to The Sun.

His proposal is set to take place in July, when he will be thrilled that Sally says yes, but will be in for some teasing from other Weatherfield residents including Sally’s ex Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), who jokes that Tim should have asked his permission.

The couple have a racy history at Street weddings, often not making it on time because they are too busy romancing each other, and at Beth and Kirk’s 80s-themed wedding earlier in the year they memorably dressed as pop duo Dollar for the party.

Sally has previously said: “They have a laugh and find each other attractive – every time they go to a wedding they are all over each other.

“They never actually get there because they are too busy having sex. We pick up the scripts and we can’t believe it. It’s quite racy.

“It’s healthy to see that it’s not just young ones having sex.”

“I like the modern family thing, and I think it’s more interesting.”

And the 51-year-old actress – who has been in Coronation Street for 29 years – also confessed she hates love scenes.

She revealed: “Every time I get a little scene where she's a bit frisky I’m like, ‘Oh no’. I don’t like being raunchy.

“Then when I go on the school run with my little girl, all the mums are going, ‘Ooh, err, I saw Sally last night’, nudge nudge kind of thing. I think my older kids are very embarrassed.”

So, Sally has no idea that Tim can’t read?

“No, not at all. She sees him reading the newspaper every day! Sally has no reason to be suspicious - why would she have? He’s never given her any reason to believe he struggles with reading.”

But she is suspicious of his new friendship with Anna (Debbie Rush), isn’t she?

“When Tim first came to the Street to find Faye, Anna didn’t take a great liking to him. But now Sally has picked up on the fact that Anna and Tim have a good relationship and she doesn’t like it. It does make Sally slightly suspicious and jealous. She sees them chatting in the cafe and they always look like they’re having an in-depth conversation. Sally wonders what it’s all about when they became the best of friends. They also seem to be laughing and joking together which makes Sally feel a bit jealous. One night Tim tells Sally he has to bob out and she’s instantly suspicious. She jumps to a big conclusion that he must be having an affair!”

How does Sally catch Anna giving Tim reading lessons?

“Sally voices her suspicions about Tim having an affair to Sophie [Brooke Vincent] and Maddie [Amy Kelly], but they don’t agree. Then they see Tim going into number 6 and they realise Sally must be right so they tell her that they’ve seen Tim looking shifty going into Anna’s. Sally races round there, storms in and is really angry when she sees them sat together. She screams and shouts at them before storming back out.”

And she races home to throw Tim’s things out the house!

“Yes. Sally’s absolutely fuming and runs upstairs. She wants Tim out of the house so she throws his clothes, his football and his football trophy out of the bedroom window because she’s so cross with him.”

What does Tim do?

“He tries to chase after Sally, but she’s not prepared to listen and he’s completely flustered that Sally’s got the wrong end of the stick. He tells her she’s got it all completely wrong and has to tell her the truth - that Anna has been helping him learn how to read. ”

How does she feel?

“She’s completely gobsmacked and, of course her, initial reaction is to be completely mortified that she’s embarrassed herself. Sally’s also really upset that Tim asked Anna to help him and not her. It makes Sally wonder why people won’t tell her things - Sophie took ages to tell her she was a lesbian and now Tim has told Anna about this before he told her. Sally wonders what that makes her and what people must think of her if they can’t confide in her. She’s really hurt by it.”

But she also wants to help Tim (Joe Duttine), doesn’t she?

“Yes, but she’s terrible at teaching him, to be honest. She’s so impatient - if he doesn’t understand something she just wants to rush past it and move on to something else. We’ve had such a laugh filming these scenes.”

What’s her technique?

“She goes on the internet and finds a course that she can use and also some little games like word bingo. She also finds some books from when Sophie and Rosie were little that she uses, too. But I don’t think Tim’s going to learn very much from Sally - he’d be better off with Anna! Sally is not a very good teacher at all.”

Do you see a real future for Sally and Tim?

“Yes, I really do. I think they’re so great together. I love the fact that Tim and Kevin [Michael Le Vell] get on as well - they have such a good relationship now and we have some great scenes together.”

Coronation Street's Tim Metcalfe is set to 'un-propose' to Sally Webster.

Joe Duttine told the Radio Times how Tim pops the question to girlfriend Sally (Sally Dynevor), but when he realises they both feel uncomfortable about the idea of marriage, he takes the proposal back again.

Joe explained: "He's not thinking of proposing. That's the confusion - he goes to the jeweller's to buy [daughter] Faye a watch, but then Sally jumps to the conclusion that he's going to propose to her.

"So when she finds out that he wasn't going to propose to her, Tim thinks he'd better pretend that he would be interested in getting married just so he doesn't upset her.

"He gets caught in a Catch 22 situation. He thinks she wants to get married, so he realises that he should maybe up his game and get married otherwise he'll be out again. He makes a commitment to her that he's going to be a bit more mature. And he is worried about getting dumped!"

But while Sally and Tim agree they don't want to get married, rumours have started on the cobbles, so Tim makes a joke of asking Sally not to marry him in the pub.

Joe revealed: "Everyone's expecting him to propose and Julie [Carp] sets up this sort of engagement party in the Rovers where Tim and Sally turn it round and make a bit of a joke of it. He gives her the ring and sort of un-proposes - it's quite sweet really.

"He's really relieved and happy to carry on as they were. It sort of brings them closer together because they've found they've got more in common."

And despite their ups and downs, Joe thinks Tim really does love Sally.

He said: "I think he does love her, but I'm not quite sure what his past experiences of being in love are. I doubt he's ever been swept off his feet - he's probably been too feckless for that and too much of a commitment phobe. He's probably just hopped from pad to pad never really having a very romantic relationship and just drifting through life.

"There's no pressure for them to get married now and I think it's nice that they just get on, have fun and have a fairly straightforward relationship. They make a fun couple."
