Whatever the future may hold for Yellowstone (as a Yellowstone season 6/spinoff seems more and more likely), the Yellowstone season 5 ending definitely signaled the end of an era for the cable western that has become one of the most popular shows on television.

Yellowstone season 5 episode 14 began with a group of indigenous people from Rainwater’s (Gil Birmingham) reservation, led by Mo (Mo Brings Plenty), taking on a secretive mission. Kind of like their own Boston Tea Party, dumping sections of pipe that were set to be used for the pipeline on the reservation into the lake. As Mo tells Rainwater later, they won’t be found (or at least not retrievable). But that’s just a small (and honestly ultimately inconsequential) part of this massive, nearly hour and a half episode to close out Yellowstone season 5.

Making plans

Following the auction at the ranch, the cowboys are having a good time and making plans for what’s next. Teeter (Jen Landon) has something specific in mind, asking Travis (Taylor Sheridan) for a job in Texas, which she ultimately gets.

Beth (Kelly Reilly), meanwhile, shows Rip (Cole Hauser) a piece of land they could move to. Rip says he could make it work, which is good, because Beth already bought it. When Rip asks who then is going to run the Yellowstone, she tells him she’ll explain it all tomorrow.

However, that is put a bit on hold, as Beth gets the call that John’s body is ready for the funeral. Beth wants to have it as soon as Rip and the cowboys can dig the grave, which is that afternoon. Beth then makes calls letting the small group of people she wants to attend.

Securing the Yellowstone’s future

Rainwater and Mo arrive at Kayce’s (Luke Grimes) house, not knowing why he has invited them. Having Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) sit in on the conversation, Kayce explains his vision from the end of Yellowstone season 4 showed him two paths, one that would save his family and one to save the ranch. He thought that choosing one would mean the end of the other, but he now realizes it meant he could only save one, but Rainwater can save the other.

Kayce points out his ancestors bought the Yellowstone land for $1.25 per acre, so that is the deal he offers Rainwater to buy the ranch from him ($1.1 million). He has two conditions, that Kayce’s family be allowed to keep the land their house sits on and that Rainwater never develop or sell the Yellowstone. Rainwater agrees.

Rainwater remembers he once threatened John that if he got the land back he would remove any evidence the Duttons had ever been there. But as generations of the Duttons are buried on the land, alongside generations of Rainwater’s people, Rainwater says they will treat all of it as sacred. They make a blood oath to symbolically seal the deal, while Mo performs a chant to commemorate the moment.

Laying John to rest

After finishing digging the grave, Rip tells Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) about the land Beth bought, saying they have room for him if he wants. However, Lloyd decides if he can’t cowboy on the Yellowstone he’d rather not do it at all. Rip tells him their door is always open.

As everyone readies for the funeral (save for Jamie [Wes Bentley], who was unsurprisingly not invited and practices his press conference), Beth takes a few shots before speeding down to meet everyone in her car. Rainwater is there, hoping Beth doesn’t mind as he was with Kayce when she called him. She doesn’t, calling him the protector of John’s legacy now.

John’s casket is laid in the barn. Beth goes to it and with tears in her eyes tells her father they won; there may not be cows on the land moving forward, but there won’t be condos either. She says he can rest now.

At the grave, the preacher invites Beth to lay a flower on the casket and say goodbye. She has something else in mind though, whispering that she will avenge John. Others follow. Kayce forgives John; Lynelle (Wendy Moniz) wore her tightest skirt for him; Rainwater promises to protect the land; and the cowboys one by one say silent goodbyes.

Rip is the last, but instead of placing a flower he picks up a shovel, intending to be the one who fills in the grave. The preacher asks if Rip wants him to stay? Rip says they’re all good on prayer, if John isn’t in heaven by now he’s never going to be or there isn’t a heaven. When Rip finishes filling in the grave, he thanks John for everything he did for him and promises to love and take care of Beth.

Beth’s revenge

Rip has his hands full immediately on that promise, as Beth is not waiting to enact her revenge. She speeds off from the ranch, and while it takes a little bit for Rip to figure out where she is going, he eventually puts it together. He brings Lloyd along as they drive after her. He calls her on the way, trying to convince her to pull over, but Beth is determined, saying she made a promise to avenge her father and she is going to keep it. We all can guess what that means.

After Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) press conference that is widely praised, he heads home on a high. However, Beth is waiting for him. She sprays him with bear spray and beats him, though Jamie fights back. During the fight, Jamie taunts Beth that he is going to set her up for the murders of John and Sarah, then turn the ranch into a resort. But Beth fills him in that they’ve already sold the ranch, meaning Jamie’s plans are ruined. He manages to get his hands around her throat and starts to choke her, but before he can kill her Rip arrives, pulls him off and starts throwing him around the room. Beth tells Rip to hold Jamie, which allows her to stab him in the chest. She makes sure the last thing Jamie sees before he dies is her face. Beth tells Rip to take Jamie’s body to the train station (he also torches Jamie’s car to get rid of any evidence), while Beth calls 9-1-1.

As she is being treated by medics, the detective (Rory Cochrane) working John’s case comes to check out the scene. Another officer tells him Beth gave a statement that she confronted Jamie about not showing up to John’s funeral and her belief he was involved in John’s death. Jamie then knocked her unconscious and when she came to he was gone. The detective asks Beth directly about her accusation of Jamie being involved with John’s death. She tells him to follow the money, which should show that Sarah paid for the killers, but Jamie ordered it. The detective admits he felt Jamie had something to hide. Sure enough, the story soon becomes how Jamie was involved in the crimes from this second half of the season.

A vision realized

Rainwater and Kayce go over the official contract for the Yellowstone deal. Kayce makes sure there’s a section specifically saying the Yellowstone won’t be developed. It goes one better, with the clause saying the Yellowstone can only be traveled on by horse or by foot. Kayce signs, and Rainwater congratulates him for making the worst land deal since his people sold Manhattan. But unlike Manhattan, the Yellowstone will never change.

Kayce heads outside, with a tear of relief streaming down his face. He tells Monica he’s free — free from the ranch and free from the need to be livestock commissioner. They see a wolf outside their fence digging. Mo arrives, saying the wolf is building a den, making a home for himself. Monica jokes she won’t be able to have a chicken coop now, but Mo points out that the wolf isn’t real, it’s part of Kayce’s vision. Mo can see it though because they now share that vision.

Elsewhere, Teeter goes to work for Travis. Also, Ryan (Ian Bohen) finds Abby (Lainey Wilson), telling her he made a mistake not picking her, but he does now; she accepts and they get back together.

A promise seven generations in the making

Rip, Kayce and Beth go through the emptied barn and house. Beth asks if Kayce wants anything, but he says no. She says she’ll keep it in storage in case Tate wants to know more about their story in the future, noting it’s one worth remembering.

As Kayce drives off, Rip and Lloyd are lowering the Yellowstone ranch sign. Rip asks if Kayce wants it? He says no, he’ll create his own brand for his ranch. He gets started on that as he and Tate go to an auction and get their first head of cattle.

The members of the reservation then arrive on the ranch, and begin to deconstruct it so it meets their purposes. Rainwater is brought to tears by the moment. Mo finds a bunch of kids pushing over the Duttons’ tombstones. He tells them to stop, telling them the Duttons protected and died for the land, so their remains will stay untouched. He picks up the tombstones, from Elsa Dutton to John Dutton.

We then hear Elsa Dutton (Isabel May) narrate, as she details the promise her father made that after seven generations the land would return to the indigenous people (which we reminded you about in our Yellowstone ending prediction). She adds: “Raw land, wild land, free land can never be owned. But some men pay dearly for the privilege of its stewardship, they will suffer and sacrifice to live off it and live with it, and hopefully teach the next generation to do the same. And if they falter, find another willing to keep the promise.”

As for the living Duttons, Kayce, Monica and Tate realize their dream and operate a ranch of their own as a family. As for Beth, she and Rip oversee their new land, which is far away from any tourists. As Rip finishes up for the day Beth tells him there’s a bar with a hitching post outside that they can ride up to. He says he’ll saddle their horse to head out.

And that’s a wrap on Yellowstone season 5. The finale was definitely satisfying and felt right for many of the characters. But looking out over the whole season, it definitely felt like a mess. After a meandering first half, the second half took a while to get going and then still forgot or featured underdeveloped plot lines (what happened to the idea of John’s old assistant leaking stuff to the press; the pipeline storyline was completely underwritten; even Jamie felt sidelined for most of these last six episodes). It was likely all a little rushed because of Kevin Costner’s exit, but it does feel like the show found its natural and destined conclusion.

The first four and a half seasons of Yellowstone are available to stream on Peacock (these episodes will hit there eventually) in the US; the show streams on Paramount Plus in the UK.

Has the sun set on Yellowstone? The Yellowstone season 5 finale has officially aired, which has been billed by many as the series finale for the Taylor Sheridan-created western series. A lot has been going on behind the scenes of Yellowstone since the first half of season 5 ended back in the early days of 2023. Series star Kevin Costner exited the show between the two halves of the season, which ultimately led to an announcement that Yellowstone would indeed end with the final batch of season 5 episodes. However, then came reports that there was still hope for a Yellowstone season 6, which could focus on fan favorites Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser).

Now that the Yellowstone season 5 finale has aired, where do things officially stand on the future of Yellowstone? Here’s what we know.

Are we getting a Yellowstone season 6?

Paramount has not made an official announcement as of publication, but multiple outlets have reported that Yellowstone is in line to continue. But rather than it being Yellowstone season 6, it would be a spinoff series starring Reilly and Hauser, though it is expected that Yellowstone would remain in the title.

Deadline was the first to report that Reilly and Hauser have closed deals to return as their characters for a spinoff series. This comes after speculation began in August that the two could be brought back to continue their characters’ stories. Right now they are the only confirmed members of the cast, though others from Yellowstone could be added as it continues to be developed.

If many of the same characters are potentially coming back and the story is going to follow the conclusion of Yellowstone season 5, why is the show being described as a spinoff rather than just Yellowstone season 6? The main reason for that likely revolves around who would have the streaming rights to the series.

Despite the show being distributed by Paramount Network, streaming rights for Yellowstone actually belong to NBCUniversal’s Peacock. Any continuation of the main series would mean those future episodes would still land on Peacock for streaming. However, making this upcoming show a new series allows for Paramount to keep it in house and have it stream on Paramount Plus at some point (unclear at this time if the spinoff would air on Paramount Network like its predecessor or become a Paramount Plus original series). That would allow it to join other recent shows created by Sheridan, including Yellowstone prequel 1883, Lioness, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown and more.

This is not the only show that looks to continue on the Yellowstone legacy. Another spinoff, The Madison, had previously been announced. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer, the series will focus on new characters but take place in the same universe as Yellowstone. We’re also set to get 1923 season 2, the Yellowstone prequel series that follows past generations of the Dutton family and stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, in February 2025.

When it was announced that Kevin Costner would not be returning for the second half of Yellowstone season 5 and that the popular western series would conclude with that new batch of episodes it was a shock to many. There was immediate speculation about how Costner’s John Dutton, who had been the main character on the series since day one, would be written out and how Taylor Sheridan would decide to bring his story to a conclusion.

The answer to the first part of that question was answered quickly in Yellowstone season 5 episode 9, the first of the second half and first without Costner — John Dutton was assassinated by ex special ops hired by Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri). And as of this Sunday, December 15, we’ll get the answer on how Sheridan chooses to wrap up the fight for the Yellowstone with the possible series finale (reports indicate that Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth, and Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, have closed deals to continue on with their characters, but it looks like that will be a spinoff series, meaning Yellowstone as we know could still officially be coming to an end).

Yellowstone season 5 episode 14 is titled “Life Is A Promise” and has the logline that reads: “The fate of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is revealed.” But if I’m right in my prediction of what will happen in the Yellowstone season 5 finale, then the fate of the ranch may have been revealed already and was likely the planned ending for the show whether or not Costner was still involved.

After Kayce (Luke Grimes) shared his plan in Yellowstone season 5 episode 13 to give the land away, I predict that the ranch will be given to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and his tribe, returning it to the ancestral owners, who will be in the best position to preserve it as is for future generations. My reasoning behind this is entirely based on a scene from the Yellowstone prequel series 1883.

A Paramount Plus original series that came out back in 2021, 1883 followed James Dutton (Tim McGraw), his wife Margaret (Faith Hill) and their children Elsa (Isabel May) and John (Audie Rick) as they headed west to find land they could call their own. In the 1883 finale, Elsa is dying from an arrow wound. Knowing he can’t save her, James says where they bury her is where they are going to settle.

In Elsa’s final days, they come across an indigenous tribe, whose leader Spotted Eagle (played by Graham Greene) tells James of a valley they describe as “paradise.” The two strike a deal for the Duttons to bury Elsa and settle there, while Spotted Eagle’s people will be allowed to continue hunting there. Spotted Eagle has one other thing though — he tells James that “in seven generations” his people will rise up and take the land back. James doesn’t argue, saying they “can have it.”

That scene was written, shot and aired years before we knew that Costner would be departing the show, but it appears to clearly foreshadow this idea that the indigenous people reclaim the Yellowstone ranch. And right on time, too. Generations are considered 20-30 years, so if we do some simple math, seven generations would be about 140 years. From 1883 to 2024, 141 years have passed. It’s all lining up.

If this does come to pass, it would also be a fitting ending for the show. While Rainwater was one of the main antagonists in Yellowstone season 1, over the years he has become somewhat of an ally for the Duttons, particularly Kayce. This would bring the relationship between the Duttons and the indigenous people full circle.

Of course, there is likely going to be a lot more going on in the Yellowstone season 5 finale than just a potential gifting of the ranch, especially as reports say the episode is one hour and 26 minutes long and is being directed by Sheridan himself. Outside of the ranch, Jamie’s fate is likely to be determined (can he escape jail time?). Meanwhile, Rainwater still has to deal with the pipeline being built on the reservation, which he already previewed as being something his people need to rise up and fight back against. It should be an exciting Yellowstone season 5 (series?) finale.

The Yellowstone is preparing for the biggest yard sale you’ve ever seen in Yellowstone season 5 episode 13. Beth (Kelly Reilly) is auctioning off just about everything from the ranch that she can in order to be able to pay off mortgages and loans that will in turn help pay off the inheritance tax for the ranch. That includes the horses that Travis (Taylor Sheridan) is training in Texas. But since Beth doesn’t know or trust Travis, she books a flight so she can oversee the sale. Rip (Cole Hauser) warns her about what Travis is like, but she reminds him she can protect herself.

We get a few quick looks at plotlines away from the Yellowstone as well. The first involves Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) lamenting that there is nothing he can do (legally) to stop the pipeline, saying his people have to go to war. Elsewhere, the fallout from Sarah Atwood’s death and involvement in John’s murder hits Market Equities. Meanwhile, Jamie (Wes Betnley) is shocked to hear that evidence he and Sarah were romantically involved has been leaked, but he quickly realizes that it was Beth. He calls his sister/mortal enemy, but despite his threats that exposing him will destroy the Dutton family legacy, Beth reminds him she promised to destroy him, and she keeps her promises.

Leaving the ranch?

Kayce (Luke Grimes) arrives back at the ranch from his successful mission to scare Grant, telling Monica (Kelsey Asbille) that it was to make sure no one follows them when they walk away from the ranch. Monica is surprised to hear Kayce say they’re leaving, but Kayce says he's been trying to leave the ranch behind his whole life, now he’s determined to do it.

The Yellowstone cowboys that were in Texas also get back to the ranch. Teeter (Jen Landon) immediately goes to the bunkhouse to see what’s left behind of Colby’s. Ryan (Ian Bohen) attempts to follow her, but Walker (Ryan Bingham) offers to go instead, knowing this is not an easy situation for him either as Colby was his best friend.

Teeter is upset that the bunk is empty and at the horse that killed Colby. Walker tells her it won’t help; instead, he offers her the peaceful thought that Colby is getting to do what he loves forever. Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith), meanwhile, gives Colby’s hat to Teeter.

Ryan then talks with Rip, asking if they should be looking for jobs with the ranch selling everything off. Only expecting daywork for the foreseeable future, Rip tells him that’s probably a good idea (he plans to keep Lloyd and Carter [Finn Litte] on to try and rebuild the ranch). When Ryan asks for more details about what happened with Colby, Rip says he was just doing his job, being a cowboy.

The art of the deal

In Texas, Beth meets Travis as he is playing strip poker with a bunch of women. Not a great first impression, especially as Travis has missed multiple calls that there are buyers waiting to see the Dutton's horse.

Once at the arena though, Travis shows what value he brings to Beth. In addition to putting on an impressive performance, he shrewdly gets the buyers to pay $3 million for the horse (up from a starting price of $2 million) by using his maintenance crew as decoy buyers.

After seeing this, Beth wants Travis to come up and put on a similar kind of show at the auction on the ranch. Travis points out that he doesn’t make a commission from an auction, but his 10% rate is too steep for Beth. With Beth revealing the tough state they’re in, Travis offers to play strip poker for it: if Beth wins, he comes up to help, no commission; if he wins, Beth takes her clothes off. Beth agrees. She gets a full house, three queens and two nines, but Travis has four aces, meaning he wins. While Beth threatens that Rip will kill him for this, she starts to undress to honor the bet. Travis stops her, saying he was just messing around; of course, he’ll come and help.

When Beth gets back to Montana she asks Rip how he could be friends with a guy like Travis? He explains that years ago Travis was training horses for John and they went to a bar one night. Rip got into a fight with a load of railroad workers, but Travis came to his aid. They still got the crap kicked out of them, but Travis kept a good disposition and then afterward, walked right back into the bar and got his and Rip’s hat, earning the respect (or perhaps fear) of the railroad workers. How many people have friends like that?

Jamie seeks counsel

With the new info connecting him to Sarah out in the world, Jamie goes to talk with Christina (Katherine Cunningham), his ex-girlfriend and mother to his son. He admits that he slept with Sarah, but says he had nothing to do with John’s death. Christina asks if Sarah was involved in John’s death; yes, but Jamie only knew that after it happened. Christina scolds him for not arresting her. But Jamie says he was worried about what the people she hired would do as well as him looking complicit. Christina points out it doesn’t look like it, Jamie is complicit in all this.

Knowing what happens to Jamie could impact their son, Christina offers to help. After getting a complete rundown of the potential pitfalls, Christina tells him to hold a press conference to announce an investigation into Sarah and John’s murders, clarify that he only worked with Sarah on the Market Equities deal and deny reports of their affair, praise John’s work and the greater meaning of his death and promise to do everything to avenge it. He has to do everything he can to show Sarah was guilty, because if she did it, then it all dies with her. She is sure to emphasize to Jamie that this speech will determine his entire future.

Acts of kindness

As the auction gets underway, Monica asks Beth if this will raise enough for the inheritance tax? Beth admits no, but it’ll help with the mortgage payment. However, even that is only temporary. She says they just need to string it along until they can find the right solution. Kayce then tells them that John’s body is ready to be picked up for the funeral. Monica offers to handle it, saying no child should have to do that.

Later, Beth sees Lynelle (Wendy Moniz) at the auction. Knowing the relationship she had with John, she invites her to the funeral, joining the family and the Yellowstone cowboys for an intimate proceeding. Lynelle accepts.

Beth continues her generous overtures with Teeter, inviting her out to the bar to mess with tourists so she can take her mind off Colby for a bit. Beth has lost none of her touch, quickly eviscerating a guy who attempts to pick her up. When Teeter gives it a try, she goes for a more aggressive approach, stepping up on and cussing a guy out until he backs off. Beth realizes this might not be the best game for Teeter. Still, Teeter thanks Beth for taking her out, but the pain remains. Beth says it never goes away; they both have holes in their hearts. How can they fix it, Teeter asks? When Beth figures it out she’ll let her know.

Kayce’s plan

Kayce seems rather upbeat at the auction, which surprises Monica. He explains it’s because he has a plan, one that he believes guarantees the future of the ranch. But he’s not telling anyone just yet.

The official bidding for the auction begins after a nice memorial for John and Colby. All told, the Duttons make $30 million dollars from everything. That’s enough to buy them another year, Beth tells Kayce.

Kayce then has a business question for her: if she sold him her car, which is worth $300,000, for just $1, would that be illegal? She says it’s stupid, but no, it's not illegal. Kayce continues, asking if the sales tax would be based on the worth of the car or the price paid? Beth confirms what it was paid for.

She’s confused by these questions until it hits her — Kayce plans to give the ranch to someone who will presumably keep it preserved as it is. But who? That’s something he’s keeping a secret for now, though I’m sure most of us have a guess (mine is Rainwater). We’ll find out soon enough though.

After a long stretch of quiet around the Yellowstone prequel series 1923, Paramount Plus has revealed some major information about the show: 1923 season 2 is set to premiere exclusively on the streaming service starting Sunday, February 23, 2025. But prior to the new season, all of 1923 season 1 is going to air on Paramount Network for the first time, allowing non-Paramount Plus subscribers to experience another saga involving the Dutton family in the early years of the 20th century.

Starting Sunday, December 8, Paramount Network will air episodes of 1923. For December 8 and December 15, 1923 episodes will air immediately following an all-new episode of Yellowstone season 5. The remaining six episodes will then be shown two per week.

Specific airtimes weren’t shared as of publication, but here is the official schedule for 1923 season 1 episodes airing on Paramount Network:

We’re starting to see more of the ripple effect of John Dutton’s death outside of the immediate family in Yellowstone season 5 episode 12. While Colby (Denim Richards) talks with Teeter (Jen Landon) on the phone, he tells her if she has things she wants to do in the future beyond the ranch, now may be the time to start thinking about them. During this conversation, he lets slip that he loves her, the first time he’s said it. While he tries to awkwardly play it off, she tells him she loves him too.

Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) also talks to Carter (Finn Little) in the bunkhouse about other ranches that could be options to move on to. Rip (Cole Hauser) comes in and tells them they are going to be selling off most of their cattle and horses, only solidifing the worry the ranch may be shutting down. Though Rip says it's an effort to allow the Duttons to pay the inheritance tax on the ranch without having to sell the land.

Elsewhere, the news of John’s death still needs to be shared with Jimmy (Jefferson White). Rip calls Travis (Taylor Sheridan), who is teaching Jimmy how to train horses, and asks if he can tell him (Rip doesn’t have the heart to do it). Jimmy takes the news hard and Travis says he can take the week off. But Jimmy says he’ll take the weekend; John wouldn’t want work to be missed on his account (Jimmy’s character growth has by far been one of the best on the show).

Jamie is panicking

Just as he worried would happen when Sarah Atwood was murdered, the police quickly come to talk to Jamie (Wes Bentley). They are in full investigation mode, and Jamie gets defensive, not allowing them to search his house for Sarah’s belongings, which does him no favors in convincing them he has nothing to do with the situation. They’re coming back with a warrant that Jamie can’t talk his way out of. Once the police are gone, Jamie rushes to destroy evidence before they can come back and find it (yeah, sure that won’t come back to bite him).

Kayce (Luke Grimes) sees the news about Sarah on his phone when he gets a call from the police about it. The police are sure she was targeted, which convinces Kayce she was involved in John’s death. As for Jamie, he’s still not sure yet, but he gives the police the green light to proceed with their investigation, even if it means Jamie will get burned. Kayce then makes a call to his old operative buddy, who gives him the information on Grant (Matt Gerald), the man who planned the ops to kill John.

Kayce fills Beth (Kelly Reilly) in on the situation. She’s worried that if the police arrest Jamie he’ll spill all the dirty secrets about John to save himself. Wanting to protect her father’s legacy, she tells Kayce to leave Jamie to her.

Man eater

One of the horses that Rip is trying to sell is the “man eater,” the young colt that Lloyd hasn’t been able to train. He gets a buyer in Mexico for it and sends Colby back to load the horse up.

Meanwhile, Carter is in the barn tending to the horses when he gets to man eater’s stall, noticing the empty water bucket. Despite being told not to go into the stall alone, Carter wants to do his job, so he carefully walks in and grabs the bucket to refill it. When he tries to return the bucket though the horse gets aggressive and pins Carter in the stall.

Colby arrives and finds Carter in this predicament. He comes into the stall to distract the horse, allowing for Carter to slip out. But the horse then kicks Colby square in the chest and continues to stomp on him. Out of the stall, Carter rushes to get a rifle, shoots and kills the horse. It’s tragically too late. Colby is dead.

Rip has to make another bad call, letting Ryan (Ian Bohen) know that his best friend is dead. Ryan then tells Teeter, who breaks down sobbing at the news that her boyfriend is gone.

After the Yellowstone cowboys load all the cattle in Texas to be sold, they get back in the truck to drive back to Montana. Ryan attempts to console Teeter, telling her that Colby didn’t suffer. But he was a cowboy, she reminds him, suffering is the job. She just wishes he would have suffered a little longer so she could say goodbye.

Dealing with guilt

Beth brings a box to the bunkhouse so they can back up Colby’s things and send them to his mother. But when it comes to his cowboy hat, Lloyd asks if she can leave that, noting it would be good if Teeter had something to find when she got back.

Beth then goes looking for Carter, who she finds in the tackroom. She knows Carter is blaming himself, but everyone is going to find reasons to blame themselves when really it’s no one’s fault. Colby made a choice to help Carter. Carter can now choose to honor that sacrifice or he can squander it. She asks if Carter is planning on staying in the tackroom all night, noting she would want her family’s help in dealing with this type of situation. When Carter says he doesn’t have a family, she says sure he does — her.

At the main house, Beth then has to give Rip a pep talk. After giving him permission to throw something to avoid bottling up his emotions, she asks him what else he needs to fix how he’s feeling? He just needs time, and her, acknowledging that if he ever started feeling guilty for himself guilt is all he’d feel. He also notes that being a cowboy is a dangerous job, and thinks one day it will kill him too.

Kayce chooses his path

Following Colby’s death, Kayce and Tate (Brecken Merrill) walk through the family graveyard. Tate asks if this is where Kayce is going to want to be buried? Kayce just wants to be close to Tate. When Tate says that he’ll be at home, whether it’s their new house or the ranch, Kayce is quick to point out the ranch isn’t actually their home anymore. This is a revelation for Kayce, who calls Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) and says he sees his choice clearly now and knows what to do, but he needs Mo’s help.

Kayce is packing tactical gear when Monica (Kelsey Asbille) comes in wondering what he’s doing. He can’t tell her specifics, only that it’s what’s best for their family, not the ranch, telling her he knows what his vision means and asks her to believe in him. She always has, but she wants him to promise that he’s coming back, which he does.

Turns out Kayce needs to send a message to Grant. As Grant takes his daughter home from soccer, Kayce sneaks into the car and holds Grant’s daughter at gunpoint to get his point across: Kayce knows how to get to Grant, so if anything else were to happen to the Duttons, Kayce would return the favor. He then hits Grant in the head, telling him he is counting coup, taking a piece of his soul. Grant is appropriately scared, driving off as soon as Kayce gets out.

Yellowstone season 5 episode 11 was the best episode of the western series in some time. The plot finally took some major steps forward after the show slowed its pace down for all of season 5 to date romanticizing the fading way of life of the cowboy; the flashbacks to bits of story that happened after season 5 part one’s finale and the death of John Dutton weren’t exactly riveting television either.

I understand Taylor Sheridan had to adapt on the fly after the departure of Kevin Costner, but continuing with seemingly inconsequential storylines of the Yellowstone cowboys in Texas and Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Monica (Kelsey Asbille) building out their new house so much has been questionable. These feel like storylines that were written pre-Costner’s exit and shoehorned in to not waste the work. But finally, at long last, we’re seeing the consequences of John’s death coming to the characters, which has given Yellowstone its mojo back.

Let’s dive into what happened in Yellowstone season 5 episode 11.

The murder of John Dutton

Pre John Dutton’s death, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) say their goodbyes in the Texas hotel, with Beth planning to drive through the night to get back to Montana. Meanwhile, Kayce and his family furnish their house.

But we also get the actual operation that killed John. Three men dressed in all black sneak into the governor’s mansion, grab a sleeping John and put him in a choke hold until he passes out, then carry him to the bathroom and stage his “suicide.”

As Beth drives through the night, she gets this sudden awful feeling. She calls Rip to make sure he‘s OK; he is. Kayce also has a sense that something is up, waking in the night to what he thinks is just a bad dream. But when his phone rings and it’s the police, he realizes it wasn’t a dream after all.

The new governor

That’s the last of the flashbacks for this episode, as back in the present we meet the new governor, who is being sworn in to serve in the role ahead of an official election. Despite being John’s lieutenant governor, he tells Jamie (Wes Bentley) he didn’t agree with John on what was best for Montana. He wants to reinstate the Market Equities deal, which is fine with Jamie.

After the swearing in, Jamie and Lynelle (Wendy Moniz) meet with the governor in his office. Waiting for them is Clara (Lilli Kay), John’s assistant, who is offered the chief of staff job for the new governor. They get into the Market Equities deal. Jamie already has plans to restore the lease and nix the land being placed into a conservation easement by John. The governor asks if the state could take the land through eminent domain so they can control the lease? Jamie is open to the idea. Lynelle thinks this is all a mistake, enforcing eminent domain could take years and the conservation easement is going to be harder to remove than Jamie thinks. While John’s policies were self-serving, they made the region less dependent on tourism and real estate; if they go with this new idea, she worries it will put a strain on Montana.

Lynelle leaves, but the talks continue. Jamie says he still has an obligation to preserve the ranch if he can, believing the Market Equities deal is the only way to do that. But with Beth and Kayce never going to sell, the government has to take the land to move the project along.

Having listened to all this, Clara declines the chief of staff job. She rushes after Lynelle, who offers her a job in her Montana office. But before she officially joins her staff, Lynelle notes Clara is technically unemployed, and as such is not bound by confidentiality rules (wink, wink).

Kayce investigates

Convinced John’s death was not a suicide, Kayce must prove it. He visits the coroner who did the autopsy, requesting a toxicology report and a new examination as if this was a homicide.

At first, the coroner can’t find anything new, but Kayce demonstrates a technique soldiers use when they are trying to knock someone out on covert missions. This helps the coroner notice bruising on John’s neck and his legs. She now believes John was forcibly restrained, but still can’t confirm it’s a homicide, instead saying she will change the cause of death to “undetermined.”

Kayce then meets with the detective working the case and asks to see the murder weapon. The gun is a service pistol from the Livestock Commission, which should have been in a different city and locked away; security footage could show who grabbed it. With all of this, Kayce wants the police to make a public statement about John’s death now being a homicide. Kayce knows it won’t help find the killers, but they can find who paid them.

Kayce has one more stop to make. He forces his way into Jamie’s office and throws him across his desk. Jamie instantly knows what this is about but tries to tell Kayce he can’t listen to Beth. He asks if Kayce really believes he could do anything like killing John and insists he is still working to protect the ranch. Kayce hopes for Jamie’s sake he is telling the truth.

But that may get harder for Jamie as the police give the press conference, which shocks Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) and Grant (Matt Gerald), who organized the hit. To make matters worse, in addressing the state assembly to revoke John’s policies, the governor orders Jamie to recuse himself from all matters related to John (including the Market Equities deal) in light of the recent news.

Choices

Beth, who watched the governor’s address from the ranch, tells Kayce they only have two options: sell parts of the ranch at a fraction of what it’s worth or lose it entirely.

Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) arrive to offer their condolences and talk. Rainwater speaks with Beth, telling her he understood John’s dream for preserving the ranch, and while their reasons were different, Rainwater maintains that dream; he’s happy to help in order to keep the land “pristine.” Beth notes there are some private equities groups interested in maintaining open land for “experiential hospitality,” but knows that ultimately they can’t stop the land eventually being taken over and developed. She laments that John could have better monetized it, controlling the land’s evolution. Now they just have a front row seat to its destruction.

Kayce tells Mo his vision from season 4 revealed he is going to have to make a choice between his family and the ranch, but he doesn’t know what it means. Mo says when the time comes he’ll know what to do, saying it won’t feel like a choice, it’ll feel like fate.

Damage control

Sarah buys a burner phone to try and call Grant, but the number she was given is no longer in service. Sarah looks more frazzled than we’ve ever seen her.

Jamie shows up, saying her big plan didn’t work; his career is shattering. She says the governor is trying to distance himself from Jamie and put the blame on him to better his position in the next election. As for the murder investigation, they have no real proof, just things that can be explained away. There’s nothing that can connect back to Jamie; she took the risks, saying she did it for him. As she taunts Jamie for being weak he slaps her, but Sarah slaps him right back. She goes to leave, but adds this comment: when the man that builds a name dies, the name dies with him; without John, Jamie got a whole lot less important.

Sarah doesn’t drive too far away when Jamie calls her, apologizing. She says Jamie has to trust her. While she’s stopped at a light, a couple pulls up alongside her and gets her to roll her window down to ask for directions. The man asks if she is Sarah Atwood? She asks how he could know that? But instead of answering he pulls out a gun and shoots her in the head, then a couple times in the chest to make sure she is dead.

Jamie is still on the phone, listening as all this happens. He panics as he knows that his number will now be the last one on Sarah’s phone when police take it in as evidence.

With John Dutton's death officially behind us, how does Yellowstone season 5 move forward? At least in Yellowstone season 5 episode 10, much the same as this entire season has: at a slow pace with as much emphasis on the legacy and future of the cowboy as there is on the actual plot of the show.

Taylor Sheridan has had a theme for this season since the very beginning, and he did not let the exit of Kevin Costner impact his plan as we see in this episode, "The Apocalypse of Change." The potential final season of the show will stay a slow burn for now, but with plenty simmering just underneath the surface for Beth (Kelly Reilly), Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Jamie (Wes Bentley).

Down in Texas

This episode picks up before John's death, as we check in with the Yellowstone crew down in Texas. As the cowboys wake up, Rip (Cole Hauser) notices Teeter (Jen Landon) is not out of bed. When he goes to check on her she is trembling, whispering a rattlesnake is on top of her. Rip grabs the snake and kills it, then chastises Teeter for not keeping her tent closed. When they find more snakes in Teeter's tent, they realize they're camped on a snake den. Rip says they'll have to move camps.

Another surprise arrival is on the way, as Beth speeds down a Texas highway to her husband. A little too fast, as she gets pulled over. She readies to use her feminine charms on the officer, only to find out its a female officer and her tactics are moot. However, when she says she's visiting her husband at the Four Sixes ranch, the officer has a new found respect for Beth and asks that she thank Rip. When Beth asks why, the officer says this is cattle country, they know how important the work cowboys do is to getting food on the table.

When Beth arrives at camp, she tells Rip she has a hotel for them to stay at. Rip says he can't leave the others, but Beth won't take no for an answer. She offers the cowboys the chance to fly whoever they want down the next weekend so she and Rip can have a night away from camp. The cowboys take the deal, assuring Rip they have everything under control.

At the hotel, Beth learns this is Rip's first time out of Montana. She imagines all the places they could go if they weren't shackled to the ranch. But Rip says he's "shackled" there by choice and isn't interested in traveling. But he is up for dancing, as the pair go down to the bar. There Beth takes note that Four Sixes has its own vodka (nice cross promotion there Mr. Sheridan) and how there are no tourists around, just people who are there for the cattle industry. Rip asks what she has cooking in her head? She's not sure yet, but there's definitely something.

Cowboy up

Without warning, we cut back to the present (after John's death). Rip talks with Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith), who is struggling to train their new colt. He asks if they're getting into the fight with whoever killed John? Rip says yes, as soon as they can figure out who they're fighting and how best to do that. Rip asks about Carter (Finn Little), who Lloyd says is in the bunkhouse, taking John's death hard.

Rip talks with him. Carter says everyone in his life has quit him, with John being the latest. Rip insists he shouldn't believe what he heard on the news, but regardless he'll always have a home on the ranch. In the meantime, he needs to cowboy up and get back to work, as sitting around isn't going to make things better. Carter admits he wanted to be like John. Rip says a lot of people did, but no has been able to do it.

Beth takes a harder approach when she realizes Summer (Piper Perabo) is still at the house; "I forgot all about you" (which most fans could say after all that's been going on with this show). Summer still believes she is under house arrest, but Beth points out that was just John's way of making sure she stayed; she's been a free woman since he took her out of prison. Beth doesn't want her there anymore, so she drives her down to the barn, refuses to care about what she has to say and tells her to hitch a ride out of there.

Rip ends up taking her to the airport, a little more willing to hear her opine about her time on the ranch. She notes that in two generations Rip's job won't even exist. He tells her about John Deere, how they originally made wagons but when the engine was invented pivoted to tractors. He and the cowboys will have to do the same, roll with the changes.

Memory or anger?

Kayce arrives at his family's new home, which they fully refurbished. Monica (Kelsey Asbille) consoles him for John's loss and offers to come with him when he says needs to be at the main ranch for a while. Kayce then takes a walk with Tate (Brecken Merrill).

Kayce aks what Tate wants to do when he grows up? Tate hasn't thought about it, always believing that working the ranch was the most likely outcome. Kayce says if Tate wants to continue the legacy that John was protecting, he'll work to see that happen. But Tate isn't sure he wants to run the ranch the way John did, seeing as it got him killed. He's more interested in their smaller land they now call home.

When Kayce asks if there's anything else Tate wants to say about John, he says he doesn't understand why this all happened. Kayce promises to tell him the whole story later, but right now he has to decide if he is going to remember how John lived or how he died; to miss him or be mad at him. Tate chooses to miss him. Kayce agrees.

The stare down

Jamie (Wes Bentley) hopes to use work to push through his complicated feelings about John's death. But those plans immediately go off the rails as Beth is waiting for him in his office. Beth slaps him and demands he look at her. When he doesn't she slaps him again, yet he still doesn't meet her gaze. She knows why he can't look at her, but gives him one more chance. When he doesn't, she tells him the next time he looks at her it will be the last thing that he ever sees.

As Beth leaves she runs into Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) and Ellis (John Emmet Tracy). After Sarah openly taunts her, Beth grabs her by the throat and shoves her against the wall, but Sarah just laughs. As soon as she leaves, Beth calls Kayce and confirms it was Jamie that killed John, with the help of Sarah.

This gets Kayce truly angry, biting his lip and making it bleed as he tries to constrain his rage. He calls an old army buddy now working in the private sector and asks who he might know that would run this kind of operation; he promises to look into it. Monica then talks to Kayce, but her husband tries to assure her he's OK. Monica lets him go for now, but when she's back with Tate she stresses that they have to make sure they don't lose Kayce from everything that is happening.

Back in Jamie's office, he says Beth will fight their efforts to restore Market Equities' lease, likely finding something that will complicate things, but he believes they'll be able to start building again in a year. Ellis is pleased with Jamie's work and promises to back him when he runs for governor in the special election. After Ellis leaves, Jamie tells Sarah Beth knows what they did, but Sarah isn't worried. Jamie won, and now its time for the new king to feast on the spoils of his kingdom; in this moment, Sarah, as he unzips her dress.

Fans of thrilling TV are probably filling their TV time with Yellowstone season 5 part 2, as the final batch of episodes for this beloved neo-Western are currently rolling out weekly. However, Peacock's new spy thriller could give it a run for its money.

Relocating the action from a Montanan ranch to... well, all over Europe, the show in question is The Day of the Jackal, which debuts on Peacock on Thursday, November 14. Five episodes are available to stream right now, while the remaining will roll out weekly.

Based on a classic 1970s novel, which was already adapted into a popular movie, The Day of the Jackal is about the titular Jackal, a top assassin who can take down any target (played by Fantastic Beasts' Eddie Redmayne). He becomes the target when a determined intelligence officer (played by No Time To Die's Lashana Lynch) sets herself the goal of taking him down, leading to a teeth-clenching ride across Europe as the Jackal tries to continue their work.

Assassins, globe-trotting chases and spies — it already sounds like a thrilling TV show, and critics and audiences agree. The Day of the Jackal is already out in the UK and Australia (it released a week earlier) and it currently enjoys an 89% critic score and 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Those scores give it an edge over the other show we mentioned. The newest season of Yellowstone currently has an 84% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it's slightly below Peacock's thriller, but its audience score of just 40% is a marked difference. Granted, these reviews cover both Part 1 (from 2022) and Part 2 (the new episodes) of the season, but most of the negative scores are new.

Lots of the new criticisms levelled at Yellowstone season 5 on Rotten Tomatoes take ire with details like sudden character deaths, a non-chronological narrative structure and a slower pace.

Many fans point out that creator Taylor Sheridan is now spread thin over many shows (including several Yellowstone spin-offs as well as Tulsa King, Lioness and the new Landman) while lead Kevin Costner departed the show in order to direct, write, produce and star in a quartet of epic western movies called Horizon: An American Saga.

But while the last few episodes of Yellowstone haven't been received well by audiences, the show as a whole is still considered a modern hit. Its overall Rotten Tomatoes audience score is much higher at 76% — yes, beating The Day of the Jackal.

While Yellowstone is created by Paramount, and streams on Paramount Plus in most countries around the world, its US streaming rights actually fall to Peacock. Season 5 part 2 isn't currently streaming, but when it does it'll sit side-by-side with The Day of the Jackal on the service. We all knew that John Dutton would not be around long in the second half of Yellowstone season 5, seeing as Kevin Costner officially exited the show, and Yellowstone season 5 episode 9 did not drawing things out.

Beth (Kelly Reilly) arrives at the governor’s mansion as police have already taped off the scene. No one will tell her what happened, but when she sees John’s assistant Clara (Lilli Kay) teary eyed, she fears the worst. Kayce (Luke Grimes) gets there and is able to push through the yellow tape and brings Beth along with him. He is shown the scene, and sure enough John is dead, blood spattered on the bathroom wall, a gun nearby on the floor. Beth then sees it for herself. She’s instantly convinced it was Jamie (Wes Bentley).

But Jamie also appears to be in shock as he watches the news report. It gets no easier when he is called by authorities and told John’s cause of death (COD). In shock he heads to give a press conference, meeting Lynelle (Wendy Moniz) on the way, also stunned by this event. Jamie struggles through the press conference, where he officially announces that John is dead, apparently by suicide.

On the car back to the ranch, Beth and Kayce listen to the press conference on the radio. Learning they’re calling it a suicide, Beth has Kayce pull over and walks out into the field. She calls Rip (Cole Hauser), telling him they killed John and that she needs him back in Montana. Just like that he is riding off into the Texas sunset to make it back to Montana as quick as he can.

Detour

Despite a two-year break between episodes and a new major plotline to dive into, Yellowstone season 5 episode 9 still spends most of its time on Rip and the other Yellowstone cowboys’ trip down to Texas. At least from my perspective, the first eight episodes of season 5 felt light on plot and big on hyping the cowboy way of life; I was surprised that with only six episodes left to potentially wrap up the season, so much of this episode appeared to follow a similar trajectory.

In any event, it’s six weeks before John’s death as Rip and the crew are driving down to Texas. Some highlights of the trip: Rip is kind to a young kid who asks to pet their horses, but then tells off a couple of 20-somethings saying they’re not running a petting zoo. Beth then calls him telling her as soon as he gets to Texas she’s flying in for some marital privileges, which everyone in the car hears over the phone.

They finally get to the 6666 ranch, where they rendezvous with Jimmy (Jefferson White) and the other cowboys of that ranch helping out with their cattle. Rip gets the lay of the land (they’re sleeping in tents despite being offered a bunkhouse, and need to be aware of the high risk of fire) before he heads off to run some errands. This includes picking up a specially made bit by an elder craftsman that Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) apparently ordered 15 years ago. Rip notes how he appreciates the spurs the man made, so the man offers them to Rip for free, I guess because the man can tell Rip's a real cowboy, one of the last.

Rip clearly is lamenting that their way of life is dying. Back at the camp with the others he says that in 30 years there won’t be anything like they’re doing. The country will be all wind and solar farms, and their beef will all come from Brazil. To fit his mood, he has Walker (Ryan Bingham) play a sad song.

Another quick little side plot back in Montana, Kayce, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) inspect their new house on the ranch, far away from everyone else, and decide it’ll do for their new home.

Setting the scene

Interspersed in those asides are what we can expect will be the big plotlines for this season, though we just get a taste.

First, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) meets with a mysterious man named “Grant” (that’s not his real name). This is the man she is hiring to kill John, following through on the idea that she and Jamie previously talked about. Grant notes they have compromising footage of Sarah and Jamie they can use as blackmail if they need it and sets the record straight — Sarah is the one committing murder here. Grant and his team may provide the logistics, but it’s the person who has the desire to do the job that is responsible, not the tool they choose to use to get it done. Grant then lays out the plan, saying suicide is the lowest risk option. Sarah gives him permission to execute the plan.

Elsewhere, Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) look over the lake where the government is going to be building the proposed pipelines. He worries that if there is an explosion of the pipeline it’ll poison the reservation’s water supply but no one will hear about it as the government will cover it up. Rainwater says this fight is the hill they are going to die on. Mo is ready for the fight.

The Duttons’ new reality

Back in the present, following John’s death, Jamie is distraught as he gets home. Not the reaction Sarah, who is waiting for him in lingerie and with champagne, was expecting. Jamie realizes what Sarah has done. He thought they were just discussing killing John and hadn’t decided to go through with it; Jamie worried John killed himself over the impeachment hearing that Jamie brought against him. Sarah assures him though that he is completely shielded from the murder, so now he needs to focus on this new world without John. She add there’s no need to mourn. Lions don’t die of old age, they are killed by younger lions. Jamie is the younger lion, and this is his kingdom now.

But Beth is going to have something to say about that. While Kayce can’t believe Jamie would kill John, Beth says he would and he had Market Equities’ resources to back him up. She encourages Kayce to call the state police to look at the security footage from the governor’s mansion to learn the truth. However, the police say there was a power outage in the neighborhood at 3:50 am; John’s time of death was confirmed as 3:53 am. Beth notes how “convenient” that is. Beth says Kayce needs to look Jamie in the eyes to see if he did that. Once he does, then he can help her decide how they’ll kill him.

Rip arrives back at the ranch (with some late season Game of Thrones travel time apparently) and Beth runs to him and falls into his arms as her emotions over her father’s death flood out of her again.

Five episodes of Yellowstone season 5 (possibly ever for the series) are left. Hopefully after this easing into this new era of the show we can get to the good stuff quickly.

Moving forward though, access to Paramount Network is going to be required for anyone who wants to keep up with the latest episodes of Yellowstone season 5 part 2. You won’t even be able to stream the episodes on-demand right away, as there’s typically a delay before they make their way to Peacock, the streaming home of Yellowstone in the US.

To the episode on hand that is airing Sunday night, it is titled “Desire Is All You Need” and the synopsis reads, “After an event rattles the state of Montana, nothing will ever be the same.”

Lioness is an action spy thriller starring Zoe Saldana as a CIA operative that runs the Lioness program, a group of female assets used to infiltrate and take out dangerous targets. In season 2, the CIA's fight against terror moves closer to home, forcing Joe (Saldana) to enlist a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. With pressure mounting from all sides.

The special airing of Lioness will follow immediately after the conclusion of Yellowstone season 5 episode 9 on Paramount Network at 9:10 pm ET/PT. This is just one part of the Taylor Sheridan dominance that will be Sunday, November 10. Prior to the primetime debuts on Paramount Network, the cable channel is airing a mini Yellowstone marathon to allow people to catch up with the series (or you can read our biggest questions for Yellowstone season 5 feature). Elsewhere, CBS is also getting in on the fun by rebroadcasting the Yellowstone season 5 part 2 premiere at 10 pm ET/PT on the broadcast network.

One of television's biggest drama shows is finally set to wrap up with the final batch of episodes of Yellowstone season 5 now airing. The first part of the season came out in 2022 but it's taken a year and a half for Yellowstone season 5 part 2, which began on Sunday, November 10 (or later, depending on where you live).

The story of the Dutton Ranch has been expanding over time with various spin-offs created and more in the works, but we'd never actually seen the end of the main series show.

That changes with Yellowstone season 5 part 2, or season 5B as some are calling it, because this final six batch of episodes wraps up the story of the show.

Series lead Kevin Costoner isn't returning for the last batch of episodes and we have lots of questions these last episodes need to answer, so these final six episodes are highly anticipated.

Your one and only way to watch new episodes of Yellowstone season 5 part 2 is to tune into the Paramount Network, which will air the episodes.

The first episode (or ninth, technically) showed on the channel at 8 pm ET/PT (and on CBS at 10 pm ET/PT) on Sunday, November 10, and if you tune into that same time slot on subsequent weeks, you can see the next episodes.

Licensing for Yellowstone streaming falls to Peacock, but it doesn't get new episodes of the show immediately after they debut. Instead, it usually gets them roughly six months afterwards, so you'll have to wait a while to catch them.

If you're a keen Yellowstone fan, then, you'll want to catch it when it airs live. If you can't tune in at the time, the episodes are repeating on various Paramount-owned channels at different times.

Helping to cap off the Taylor Sheridan-centric weekend, Paramount Network is also going to air Lioness season 2 episode 1 on the cable channel, allowing for those who are not currently signed up for Paramount Plus to watch the other popular Sheridan series.

In order to watch the mini Yellowstone marathon this weekend, you need to have access to Paramount Network, which is available through traditional pay-TV providers or live TV streaming services like Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, Philo TV, Sling TV and YouTube TV. Also, Yellowstone season 5 episode 9 is going to get a special broadcast on CBS on November 10, airing at 10 pm ET/PT. Note that this will be a slightly censored version to meet broadcast standards compared to the language that is allowed on cable TV.

Subsequent episodes of Yellowstone season 5 part 2 are going to air on Paramount Network on Sundays.

It took a bit longer than expected, but Yellowstone season 5 part 2 is finally on Paramount Network Sunday, November 10, arriving two years after the first half of the season premiered. In that time there have been some major developments that likely fundamentally changed the show and possibly some of the storylines that were originally being set up in the first eight episodes of Yellowstone season 5.

Most influential was the decision that Kevin Costner would not be returning for the final batch of episodes, removing the series protagonist to date, John Dutton, from the board. As a result of Costner’s exit, it was reported that Yellowstone season 5 part 2 would mark the end of the flagship series, though spinoffs were possible (and some have already been announced, i.e. The Madison); however, there are now rumors though that Yellowstone season 6 could still happen.

Long story short, Yellowstone fans likely have a lot of questions about where the show is going, and possibly need a reminder of where things left off. Of course you can always rewatch the episodes: the show is streaming on Peacock in the US and Paramount Plus in the UK, while Paramount Network is having a mini marathon from November 8-10 of season 3-5 leading up to the premiere.

But if you don't have the time to rewatch the entire first half of Yellowstone season 5, I've compiled what I think are the six biggest questions about Yellowstone season 5 part 2 and am offering the background and my own perspective on them. Let’s fire away.

How is Yellowstone going to deal with the Kevin Costner exit?

Since the beginning, Yellowstone has been about John Dutton’s fight to protect the land that his family has called home for more than 100 years, hoping to preserve it for his own children. But Costner, who has portrayed John for the entirety of the show, won’t be around to see that fight through.

After reports of a falling out with show creator Taylor Sheridan over scheduling conflicts with Costner’s movie Horizon: An American Saga, Costner denied those reports but confirmed that he would not be returning for Yellowstone season 5 part 2. So, how will the show deal with Costner’s exit?

When we last had a new Yellowstone episode, Jamie (Wes Bentley) had moved to impeach John as Montana’s governor, citing his moves to cancel the Market Equities deal had opened the state up to a $4 billion lawsuit. Jamie also was talking with Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri; more on her in a bit) about getting in contact with some professional killers, but that may have been more about Beth (Kelly Reilly) than John.

Though Yellowstone director Christina Voros told The Hollywood Reporter that “His [John’s] presence is integral,” to these new episodes, the most likely bet is that John is going to have died when episodes return. Perhaps from something like a heart attack (he had major health issues in the first few seasons and has gone through some tough battles since), but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Jamie and Sarah had him assassinated (in the Yellowstone season 5 part 2 trailer Jamie is trying to destroy documents; evidence?)

Yellowstone season 5 part 2 scripts were redacted to prevent leaks like John’s fate being revealed ahead of the show’s return.

Who will win the Jamie and Beth fight for power?

Jamie and Beth’s relationship has grown from bitter sibling rivalry to all out war, with the first eight episodes of season 5 setting up what we can only expect to be a winner take all showdown in these final episodes.

To recap, Beth entered Yellowstone season 5 with the upper hand, having photos of Jamie dumping his biological father’s body at the train station and using them to keep him in check. However, after Beth discovers that Jamie has a son (something he had kept hidden from the rest of the Duttons) she promises to take his son from him as payback for having her sterilized as a teen. This is too far for Jamie, as he aligns himself with Sarah Atwood, moves to impeach John and possibly hire assassins to go after Beth (he ruins Beth’s blackmail attempt by revealing John knows about the train station and would be implicated too if she revealed it).

With John presumably out of the picture in Yellowstone season 5 part 2, Beth will have even more motivation (likely blaming Jamie for whatever happens to John) and no restraints on how to go after him now that John isn’t there to try and protect Jamie. Jamie, however, will have Sarah and presumably the support of Market Equities behind him, which are powerful resources.

It’s likely only one of them will come out on top, so who will it be? I’m picking Beth.

Who is Sarah Atwood?

We’ve mentioned her a bunch already, but who exactly is Sarah Atwood?

Sarah made her Yellowstone debut in season 5 episode 2, when she was brought in by Market Equities specifically to combat the Duttons. She quickly set her eyes on Jamie as her primary target, wooing him both romantically and appealing to his ambition by saying they would help him become the next governor once John is ousted.

However, there is potentially much more to Sarah’s story. At one point Beth does some snooping on Sarah, but she can’t find any legitimate information about her, leading her to believe that Sarah Atwood isn’t her real name. Who is she, and why does she have contacts with professional killers? She should be one of the more fascinating characters in these final batch of episodes.

What’s going on with Rainwater’s leadership fight?

Taking a break from the Dutton storylines, there is one with Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) that still needs to be addressed in the second half of the season.

The first half of season 5 saw Rainwater’s role as leader of his tribe threatened by Angela Blue Thunder (Q’orianka Kilcher), as she attempted to replace him with a younger candidate. In addition to that, the federal government was proposing putting not one but two pipelines on reservation land.

Solving these two problems could go hand in hand. Rainwater may see the only way to push back against negative sentiment toward his leadership to be defeating the pipelines being imposed on his land. So what will he have to do in order to ensure that?

Again, with John likely out of the picture, Rainwater will likely rely more on Kayce (Luke Grimes), who he's always had a better relationship with anyway, to help him in his cause.

Rip’s return to the ranch?

The last we saw Rip (Cole Hauser) he was heading down to Texas with a number of the Yellowstone cowboys to look over their cattle herd after disease was found in their fields and they needed to be relocated. It always seemed strange that Rip would be away from the Yellowstone for long, but this is one of the storylines that may be the most impacted by Costner’s departure.

In the season 5 part 2 trailer we see that Rip is back with Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith), who did not go to Texas, so it seems he is back at the ranch. That’s not overly surprising, presuming something does happen to John you can’t expect Rip to not make his way home, as he'll certainly be looking for some measure of revenge and to be there to protect Beth.

Are we going to see more of Jimmy?

Piggy backing off of the Rip storyline, does his presumed quick exit from Texas mean we’re not going to get any more of Jimmy (Jefferson White) in Yellowstone season 5 part 2?

We only saw Jimmy briefly in the first half of season 5. As a reminder, Jimmy was allowed to move on with his life by John after he matured on the 6666 ranch and got married at the end of Yellowstone season 4. Jimmy seemed happy and in a good place with his life on the Texas ranch, where he presumably would be reuniting with some of his old Yellowstone friends.

If Rip’s removal from the Texas storyline means that won’t be followed too much, then it’s possible we don’t see Jimmy much more than the glorified cameo he had in season 5 part 1. However, Jimmy does still wear the Yellowstone brand. He may have been allowed to start his life anew, but if his old home was threatened as we think it is going to be, would Jimmy’s new outlook on life compel him to go support those who helped him become the man he is today?

Jimmy has long been a favorite character, and it would be great to see him used more in these final episodes. So here’s hoping.

Hit Neo-Western Yellowstone has been a massive success for Paramount Plus with many seasons and spin-offs, and Netflix is clearly hoping to get a piece of the action with its new series Territory.

Released on Thursday, October 24, Territory is about the Lawson family which owns Marianne Station, the largest cattle station in the world. This empire is constantly under assault, however, and the Lawson’s need to fight for ownership against rivals, criminals, businessmen and Indigenous elders if they want to keep their land.

If you’re a fan of Yellowstone, that synopsis will sound familiar, because it too is about a family (the Duttons) defending their ranch (the Yellowstone Ranch) against various peoples who want it for themselves (neighbors).

Territory is different in one key way, as it’s set in Australia. The show was filmed in South Australia and the Northern Territory and, while Marianne Station isn’t a real place, the real world’s largest cattle station is in South Australia (the show wasn’t filmed there, though).

A large cast appears with Anna Torv, Michael Dorman, Robert Taylor and Sam Corbett playing the Lawsons and many more actors joining in other roles. Another famous name directs with Wolf Creek director Greg McLean behind the camera. Overall Territory is reported to be South Australia’s biggest Netflix series, the first shot in the Northern Territories and one of the largest from the country as a whole.

One thing stands in the way of Territory being a bona fide Yellowstone rival though, and that’s longevity: only six episodes of the show will arrive in the first season, which won’t give us much time to get to know the characters or story.

For context, Yellowstone started with 9 episodes in its first season, and that figure has quickly blossomed to 53 for the main series and a rapidly rising number as part of the spin-offs (18 at the time of writing).

Yellowstone is set to end in November, and like the plot of these shows themselves, a succession drama is brewing for its replacement. Territory is Netflix’s contender and it’ll surely be hoping that the show is a big enough hit to justify follow-up seasons.

All you need to know about Caribbean Premier League 2024

The sun may not be setting on Yellowstone after all. After months of the assumption that the remaining episodes of Yellowstone season 5 (set to premiere on November 10) would be the final ones in Taylor Sheridan's flagship neo-western, a new report indicates that a Yellowstone season 6 is in discussions, with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser potentially set to lead. This is according to an initial report by Puck and then followed up by multiple other outlets.

The saga of Yellowstone season 5 and its future has been one deserving of its own one-hour drama. The first eight episodes of Yellowstone season 5 premiered in the fall of 2022 and wrapped up in the first couple days of 2023. Then the Hollywood strikes in 2023 delayed production on the remaining six episodes. Also during the hiatus, it was revealed that series lead Kevin Costner would not be returning for the second half of season 5 because of scheduling conflicts with him making Horizon: An American Saga. Then there have been various reports of Yellowstone’s favorite characters continuing the series in some way. But rather than a spinoff, it may just be Yellowstone season 6.

To be clear, nothing is finalized on this front. Reilly and Hauser, who play Beth Dutton and her husband Rip Wheeler on the show, are reportedly in talks to lead the potential new season, but a deal is not currently in place. There's no indication of whether any other characters from the series would continue on. Should this come to pass though, it would be a relief for long-time fans of the series to know Yellowstone season 5 would not in fact be the end.

Of course, Sheridan's Yellowstone universe has already grown beyond his flagship series. Already there are the prequel series 1883 and 1923, with 1923 season 2 expected and another prequel series set 21 years later in 1944. A present-day spinoff series has also been confirmed, The Madison, which is set to star Michelle Pfieffer.

Outside of the world of Yellowstone, Sheridan has created shows like Mayor of Kingstown (awaiting word on Mayor of Kingstown season 4, Tulsa King (Tulsa King season 2 is premiering in September), Special Ops: Lioness and Landman, which is having its series premiere in November.

They enter Day 4 with a slim lead of 82 and only four wickets remaining. That means England are still favorites to win the 1st Test — but not by much.

November 10 is the premiere of Yellowstone season 5 and the beginning of the end of Taylor Sheridan's hit western show as that's mark the start to the final episodes of the series. However, the future of Yellowstone is taking shape, with the first concrete details emerging about what comes next for the franchise that has become one of the biggest hits on TV. Headlining the news is that three-time Oscar nominee Michelle Pfeiffer set to lead the next Yellowstone series, titled The Madison.

Yellowstone had been extending itself beyond its flagship series prior to the surprise departure of lead Kevin Costner (due to reported scheduling conflicts with his movie Horizon: An American Saga) that ultimately led to the decision to end Yellowstone. But shortly after Yellowstone's fate was sealed, it was announced that at least one sequel series would be put into development, which has now become The Madison.

Detailed by multiple outlets, The Madison is described as "a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana." Exactly who Pfeiffer is playing hasn't been shared, but it would seem likely she'd play the matriarch of the main family. In addition to starring, Pfeiffer is also going to be an executive producer on the series alongside Sheridan.

No details on when The Madison could premiere, but it is expected to be the next new Yellowstone series to come to TV (or Paramount Plus; where the show will air was also not divulged).

But that's not all that is coming. Among the early reports that Yellowstone was getting a sequel series it was widely believed that would include a series that would be a continuation of the flagship series, with the possibility of characters from Yellowstone continuing on. There's little new information on this series (including no deal for Matthew McConaughey, who was initially reported as being in talks for the show), but it still seems very much in the works.

In addition to these sequel series, we're going to learn more about the previous generations of Duttons with another prequel series, the next one titled 1944. There's little known about this series at the time, as 1923 season 2 is still being worked on before Sheridan moves onto the next era of the Dutton family.

Yellowstone as we've known it is going to end in 2024, but the Yellowstone franchise looks as strong as ever.

Yellowstone fans probably have some mixed emotions right now. While Yellowstone season 5 brought an end hit western series, the franchise is going to continue with a handful of spinoffs. One of which we now know is going to be titled The Madison.

Taylor Sheridan's next story in the Yellowstone universe is going to be a present-day story set in a different part of Montana and with new characters. It's not the only one in the works though, as another spinoff is in the works that is expected continue be a continuation of the main Yellowstone series (with possibly some characters continuing on) and another prequel, 1944, in the same vein as 1883 and 1923.

As the info on The Madison starts to come in, read on below to catch up on it all.

The Madison release date

There is no official release date for The Madison at this time, though according to The Hollywood Reporter it is expected to be the next new series to premiere in the Yellowstone universe.

It's also unclear if The Madison would air on Paramount Network like Yellowstone has throughout its run, or if it would become a Paramount Plus original series like other Sheridan-created shows in recent years, including Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, the upcoming Landman and the Yellowstone prequels.

The Madison looks to follow an entirely new story and characters, while presumably still occupying the same universe as the Duttons.

According to reports, the series is centered around a New York City family that moves to the Madison River valley of central Montana and is described as a "heartfelt study of grief an human connection."

The lead of The Madison has been announced, and it is none other than three-time Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Pfeiffer.

"Michelle Pfeiffer is a remarkable talent who imbues every role with emotional depth, authenticity and grace," said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. "She is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the Yellowstone universe, Madison, from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan."

Pfeiffer's probably still best known for playing Catwoman in Tim Burton's Batman Returns, though she earned her Oscar nominations for performances in Dangerous Liasions, The Fabulous Baker Boys and Love Field. She is also known for starring in Scarface, Hairspray, Murder on the Orient Express and, most recently, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She also recently starred in the TV series The First Lady.

A few other cast members have been announced for the sequel series: Suits star Patrick J. Adams is going to play Russell McIntosh, an investment banker who has always followed the life path set before him; Elle Chapman (A Man Called Otto) is playing Paige McIntosh, a "somewhat self-centered woman who indulges in a luxurious New York lifestyle provided by her parents and investment banker husband;" and Beau Garrett (Firefly Lane) as Abigail Reese, a "resilient and sardonic New Yorker, who is a recently divorced mother of two."

As of August 26, Deadline has confirmed another cast member joining The Madison: Lost star Matthew Fox, who will play the role of Paul, a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors.

Variety reports that Ben Schnetzer will also star in The Madison. Most recently seen in 3 Body Problem, Schnetzer will play Van, a "salt-of-the-earth and neighborly Montana ranhcer."

Yellowstone is a modern-day western that follows the Dutton family, who own the largest contiguous ranch in the US. However, there are many forces both from outside and within that put them at risk from losing it all. The series stars Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Wes Bentley, Kelsey Asbille, Gil Birmingham, Brecker Merrill and Jefferson White.

1883 is a prequel series that follows the first Duttons to head west, embarking on a dangerous journey in search of a land they can call their own. The series, which only has one season, stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, Sam Elliott, LaMonica Garrett, James Landry Herbert, Marc Rissman and Gratiela Brancusi.

1923 picks up the Dutton story 40 years in the future, as the family builds and defends their ranch during the Great Depression, westward expansion and in the aftermath of World War I. This series stars Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Darren Mann, Jerome Flynn, Timothy Dalton, Michelle Randolph, Aminah Nieves and Brian Geraghty. There are plans for a 1923 season 2.

I'll admit it, I was intrigued by the bold strategy that Kevin Costner was taking with his planned four-part epic western Horizon: An American Saga. Not only did he film the first two parts of the story (titled Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 respectively) back to back, but the plan to release them just about a month and a half apart was something we rarely see in Hollywood. All of this had me list it as my most anticipated summer blockbuster movie of 2024. Then the wheels came off the wagon.

After premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 received tepid reviews; when I finally saw it, I sadly could only agree with the less than favorable sentiments in my own Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 review. Not the end of the world, movies have succeeded despite bad reviews in the past, and Warner Bros., the studio behind 2023's biggest box office hit Barbie, was promoting the heck out of the movie. (Technically the movie is distributed by New Line Cinema, but they fall under the Warner Bros. banner.)

But it is clear to see that Horizon is no Barbie at the box office. The movie, which was reportedly made for $100 million, has made $22.6 million at the US box office since it was released on June 27; it's made less than $1 million at the international box office. That poor performance has led to a drastic change in strategy on the movies, starting with Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2 being pulled from its August 16 release calendar with no new release date immediately announced.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to share the news, with a statement from Costner's production company Territory Pictures and New Line Cinema saying they are delaying Chapter 2 "in order to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of Horizon over the coming weeks, including on PVOD and Max." The story shared that Chapter 1 is going to premiere on digital on-demand platforms starting July 16, while a streaming debut on Max has not been announced as of yet.

THR detailed that Costner helped fund the movies with $38 million of his own money and as recently as last week indicated the plan was to start production on Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 3 in August.

Maybe Horizon: An American Saga will find its audience on digital platforms, it's happened before for movies, and Costner's company added an additional statement that many audiences have been enthused by the movie. But with its poor reviews and a three-hour runtime, the chance that the bet on Horizon: An American Saga becoming a massive hit worth its price tag appears to be less and less likely.

Compounding all of this is the fact that the making of Horizon was reportedly part of the reason for Costner to not return to Yellowstone season 5. Costner's exit prompted series creator Taylor Sheridan to conclude the hit neo-western with the second half of season 5 (though a sequel series is in development). Yellowstone has been one of the biggest TV hits in some time, and Costner's John Dutton was a central part of that. To not even have him appear in the final episodes to close out the series is a real shame, and possibly the biggest negative of all of this for general audiences.

Mostly though it is a shame for Costner. I've always been a fan of his and believe he is a talented director, as evidenced by his Best Picture-winning Dances with Wolves (look past it beating Goodfellas, it's a good movie) and his underrated western Open Range. He clearly was passionate about telling Horizon, it just didn't pan out, something many filmmakers can relate to.

At one point or another we are going to get Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2, be it in movie theaters or on-demand, as it is already done (as evidenced by the previous plan and the promo for it in the Chapter 1 ending). But whether or not this gamble will eventually pay off for Costner and all involved just got a lot harder. A tip of the cap though for taking the risk.

The wait is finally over as All American: Homecoming season 3 has finally kicked off, a sigh of relief for fans who have been impatiently waiting to see what happens next in the series. After the season 2 finale, fans were left with several cliffhangers. 

For example, is JR (Sylvester Powell) hanging up his baseball mitt for the sake of his health? Also, what's with the mystery surrounding Marcus’ (Cory Hardict) wife? Who knew he was even married? But the most frustrating cliffhanger viewers have had to wrestle with in the show's downtime is who Simone (Geffri Maya) chooses to be with. Has her heart led her to national pitching phenom Damon (Peyton Alex Smith), or is she choosing the equally talented but not quite as well-known pitcher Lando (Martin Bobb-Semple)? 

Now leading up to the reveal of her decision, we’ve found ourselves believing that she’d choose Lando. Although Damon knew Simone first and she’d probably do well to pick him as a romantic partner, the chemistry between Simone and Lando seems electric. Plus, Lando really helped push Simone last season and served as a big support system as she was pledging her sorority. On the flip side of things, Simone softened Lando a bit, making him a bit more endearing and less abrasive. 

Our theory of #Slando becoming a thing was only enhanced when news hit that Damon portrayer Smith was reducing his time with the series and would only be a recurring cast member in season 3. For us, the casting change signaled the possibility that Damon wasn't the person Simone chose, and he would not be hanging around her as much. After all, it would be a little awkward for Damon to remain friends with Simone if she opted to be in a relationship with his frenemy Lando. 

With all that being said and the season 3 premiere having just aired, who does Simone actually choose? Here’s what we know. 

Does Simone choose to be with Damon or Lando?

Well, it looks like we were wrong. It was revealed in the season premiere that Simone chose Damon. However, with him leaving Bringston to play baseball now that the university's baseball team has been cut, we'll have to wait and see if Simone and Damon can endure a long-distance relationship.  

In what has become a holiday tradition over on Paramount Network, TV viewers can once again spend a long weekend with the Duttons, as a Fourth of July Yellowstone marathon starting Wednesday, July 3, on the cable network will air every episode of the Taylor Sheridan western over five days (well, technically six).

Things kick off at 8 pm ET/PT on Wednesday with the first four episodes of Yellowstone season 1 airing all in a row, which see episode 4 airing just after midnight. Then from Thursday, July 4, through Sunday, July 8, the marathon picks back up at 11 am ET/PT. Friday, Saturday and Sunday do see the last couple of episodes from the previous night re-air to start the day in case you're more of a morning person; though it you want to watch live all the way through, you will need to stay up as the last episode of Yellowstone season 5's first half airs at 12:30 am ET/PT on Monday, July 8 (stretching the marathon to six days).

French Open on Sling TV

The wait for Yellowstone season 5 to return has been a long one, but cameras are officially rolling on the show once again. Still, new episodes aren't expected until November, so how do you fill that gaping hole in your heart from not being able to watch the Dutton family? How about with an epic Yellowstone marathon with every episode of the Western TV show to date over the three-day Memorial Day weekend?

Starting Friday, May 24, at 4 pm through Monday, May 27, Paramount Network is airing each and every episode of Yellowstone, from its pilot to the most recent episode of season 5, which debuted all the way back in January 2023.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, Yellowstone is the epic story of the Dutton family, who have held onto the largest contiguous ranch in the US for generations, and must now contend with shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect as they are in constant conflict with those the property borders. The series stars Kevin Costner as the patriarch John Dutton, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Wes Bentley, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill and Gil Birmingham.

Yellowstone has become one of the biggest cable hits of the last six years and has spawned multiple spinoffs, including prequels 1883 and 1923. It also became a hit on CBS when the network aired the first three seasons of the show to help fill out its primetime lineup during the 2023 Hollywood strikes. But watching the show on Paramount Network allows you to see the unedited version of the show (swear words and all).

When Yellowstone season 5 returns, it will do so with the last six episodes of the series; though there are plans for a spinoff series, currently titled 2024. But before then, this marathon is a great way to catch up with the series from the very beginning.

Little Wing plot 

Little Wing follows Kaitlyn McKay (Brooklynn Prince), a 13-year-old girl who’s struggling to come to terms with her parents’ divorce. She and her mum Maddie (Kelly Reilly) have lost their home and Kaitlyn plans to solve their financial problems by stealing a valuable racing pigeon. Instead, she forms a bond with the bird’s owner Jaan (Brian Cox) who cultivates her love of the sport.

About Sling TV DVR

Sling now offers 50 hours of DVR for free, whichever package you have.

If you need more, you can pay $5 a month for the enhanced "DVR Plus." That'll get you 200 hours of recording capability. DirecTV Stream

DirecTV Stream has been through many iterations in its time. Previously it was known as AT&T TV, before that DirecTV Now and AT&T TV Now. Whatever it's called the streaming service has an option of four packages, at varying price points, depending on how many channels you want to stream. The DirecTV Stream entertainment plan starts at $69.99 a month, all the way up to the Premier Plan, at $149.99 a month, which throws in more than 150 channels and HBO Max.

Even though it premiered all the way back in 2018, Yellowstone has gained new fans in recent months as the Taylor Sheridan-created western for the first time has been airing on CBS. Since September, the Paramount Network original series has aired all of Yellowstone season 1, Yellowstone season 2 and Yellowstone season 3 for anyone with access to CBS to enjoy. But is Yellowstone season 4 coming to CBS?

For anyone that has still yet to catch up with Yellowstone in the six years since its initial premiere and the four months since it debuted on CBS, the series stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the patriarch of a ranching family that owns one of the largest ranches in the US. However, with that comes the dangers of those who would try and take the land from him and his family, which John will do just about anything to protect. In addition to Costner, Yellowstone stars Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Gil Birmingham and more.

Yellowstone season 4 is the last full season of the show that has already aired (Yellowstone season 5 only aired half of its episodes when it initially premiered in 2022), so will CBS be sharing that with its viewers at any time in the future?

Is Yellowstone season 4 coming to CBS?

In short, we don't know. CBS has made no official comment on whether Yellowstone season 4 will air on CBS or not. What to Watch has reached out for any info but as of publication has not heard back.

The previous seasons of Yellowstone have aired in pretty quick succession. When Yellowstone season 1 ended its run on CBS, season 2 started airing the very next week. While season 3 arrived after a short break for the holidays and the Golden Globes, CBS did not wait long to confirm that season 3 was on its way after Yellowstone season 2 aired its final episode. However, the TV landscape is different as we await to hear the decision on Yellowstone season 4.

When it was announced that Yellowstone would air on CBS, it was done to help fill out the CBS primetime TV schedule while the 2023 Hollywood strikes for new labor agreements delayed CBS's original programming slate from premiering in the fall. By airing Yellowstone, which originally aired on cable channel Paramount Network, the network could offer something that would be new to at least some viewers.

The strategy worked, as the Yellowstone season 1 premiere drew 6.83 million viewers, per CBS. Through the airing of Yellowstone season 2 episodes, The Wrap reported the show had an average of 5.04 million viewers per episode.

But the strikes are over now and the usual slate of CBS shows are scheduled to return in February. That includes Ghosts season 3, Young Sheldon season 7, NCIS season 21, Fire Country season 2, Blue Bloods season 14 and, most notably for Yellowstone, The Equalizer season 4, new series Tracker and CSI: Vegas season 3, which all air on Sunday, when Yellowstone typically aired on CBS.

With the TV schedule from February until about May pretty much booked with these shows, it doesn't seem like Yellowstone could fit between now and then. However, that does not mean Yellowstone season 4 is never going to air on CBS. The summer months are often quieter and could give CBS a chance to air Yellowstone season 4 if they so choose. That could also be a good opportunity for promotion of Yellowstone season 5, which is planning to return with its final batch of episodes in fall 2024.

Can't wait that long to continue the Dutton's saga? Your options then for watching Yellowstone season 4 and Yellowstone season 5 are either Paramount Network, which often airs episodes and marathons of the show, or to stream it on Peacock, which has every episode to date available for subscribers. (Just in case any UK Yellowstone fans are reading this, the western is available to stream on Paramount Plus for you.)

If and when CBS announces that Yellowstone season 4 is coming to the network, we’ll update this post with that information.

There's a lot to get into with Yellowstone season 3 episode 10, "The World Is Purple." But before all the shocking moments, things open up in the bunkhouse, where the dynamics are changing.

While Mia (Eden Brolin) questions Jimmy's (Jefferson White) Yellowstone branding, Laramie (Hassie Harrison) lays in bed with Walker (Ryan Bingham), making Lloyd (Forrie J Smith) jealous. When Laramie and Mia notice Ryan (Ian Bohen), Teeter (Jennifer Landon) and Colby (Denim Richards) also now wearing the brand, the pair leave, startled.

Here's what else happens in Yellowstone season 3 episode 10.

Garrett helps Jamie

Garrett Randall (Will Patton) tells Jamie the story of the night he killed Jamie's mother. He says he found Jamie sucking on a crack pipe like it was a nipple, while his mother had sex with someone else. Garrett took her life and gave up his for Jamie. Considering Jamie's now the attorney general of Montana, Garrett says it's the best decision he ever made. 

The conversation then turns to John. Garrett says John has only ever loved his ranch, not Jamie. Jamie boasts he was raised to run Yellowstone and he built it to what it is now. He just can’t afford to buy it. 

Garrett explains the Yellowstone is an empire and the only way to take down an empire is to kill the king. Jamie says he isn't a killer. But Garrett looks at his son and can see he has already killed. "You're a Randall. Killing is our only gift."

Rips gets Beth's ring 

Rip (Cole Hauser) returns home after dealing with Wade when Beth (Kelly Reilly) jokingly asks who he killed. Rip tells her never to ask that question again, which makes Beth both curious and annoyed he's keeping secrets from her. She asks how many people he's killed to which Rip says he honestly can't remember. Beth says he can keep that secret, as she has her own killing to do. 

Later, Rip convinces a gravedigger to open his mother's coffin. Rip kneels next to her and says he's getting married. He doesn't just want to get her a ring from a store. He takes her wedding ring from her hand and says he loves her. 

Yellowstone's fate 

Willa (Karen Pittman), Roarke (Josh Holloway) Beth, John (Kevin Costner) Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Angela (Q’orianka Kilcher) meet with Governor Perry (Wendy Moniz) and Jamie to decide the fate of Yellowstone valley. 

As Roarke explains Market Equities' airport plan, Willa sees an article that she's being accused of workplace harassment by an anonymous person. Beth acts innocent but silently taunts her. Willa departs to deal with this, telling the room Roarke can make the presentation. John looks at Roarke inquisitively, having just been told by Rip that Wade's last words were naming Roarke as his backer. 

After Roarke finishes his presentation, Beth tries to claim power of attorney over Yellowstone's sale, but Jamie points out that since Beth filed this claim in Utah rather than Montana, he is actually the legal authority. Jamie approves the sale of the land. While John tries to protest, Jamie points out it was actually Governor Perry's choice. 

However, Angela says they'll be filing a class-action suit with the help of attorneys from various prominent clubs and coalitions to stop the building of the airport based on an environmental impact report on how the airport will damage the water supply to the country's oldest national park. Having previously kept hunting wolves in the park in court for a decade, she says they'll have no issue doing the same to an airport. Rainwater invites John to join their lawsuit for free. 

As John leaves, he warns Roarke, though he doesn't seem worried about the lawsuit. John also lambasts Jamie for not saying a word. When it's just Perry and Jamie left, she says that must have been hard for him. Jamie insists he's fine; everything he does now is for him, not the Duttons. 

After the meeting, Angela reminds Rainwater John is their enemy. She insists Rainwater needs to start acting like a criminal in order to protect Yellowstone and preserve their way of life. Rainwater says he's not a criminal, but Angela points out he wouldn't be breaking native laws and says Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) should go start a war for them so they can all go home.

Governor Kayce?

Kayce tells Monica (Kelsey Asbille) he's surprised how much he likes being livestock commissioner, as he enjoys fighting for the people. She's happy for him, but says they moved to the lodge to see Kayce, instead he's working all the time.

At the office, Kayce meets the chairmen of the Stock Growers Association. They tell him Governor Perry's term ends in two years and they want Kayce to replace her. Kayce laughs, telling them he's not a politician. For them he's exactly what the state needs. They remind Kayce it's ranchers and farmers who win elections, and they back Kayce. Kayce is intrigued.

Jimmy returns to rodeo … briefly

After Mia, who is still upset over his Yellowstone brand, overhears Jimmy saying he's not going to ride anymore, she says she fell in love with him because he was so happy and brave. That's not the person he is now. Jimmy admits he's scared he'll end up in a wheelchair.

Mia gives Jimmy an ultimatum. If he wants to belong to something, it should be her. They can travel the country together doing rodeos. If he can't cowboy up and rodeo again, they're done. Jimmy says yes and they kiss. 

Later, Jimmy gets on a horse at Yellowstone. But he's quickly bucked off. He lands on the ground, we hear a snap and Jimmy lays there unconscious. 

The Duttons are attacked

As Willa deals with being accused of harassment, she tells Roarke he needs to play dirty against the Duttons. Roarke insists he's already been doing that, but he'll do anything she wants. 

Then all hell breaks loose.

While Beth clears her office at Schwartz & Meyer, her assistant finds a box addressed to Beth. Beth tells her to stop opening it. Suddenly a huge bomb explodes. 

Kayce tells Monica over the phone he might run for governor. Their argument is interrupted by gunshots from the lobby. Armed men break down his door and start firing. Kayce flips his table for protection. Monica screams Kayce's name, as we hear bullets fly over the phone. 

John helps a woman and her child change a tire on the side of the road. A van pulls over. John thinks they're asking for directions. Once they confirm he's John Dutton, they shoot him and the woman, before driving away. 

Rip calls Jamie, saying he can't get hold of Beth, Kayce or John. Jamie tells Rip he shouldn't call him anymore.

John lays against the car, wounded but alive. He puts his hand into his jacket and pulls out his phone, which has a bullet in it. John says to himself, "Doesn't that f****** figure."

Did Roarke arrange the attack? Did Jamie know about it? Are John, Beth and Kayce going to make it?

Yellowstone season 3 episode 9, "Meaner Than Evil," starts off with a focus on the wranglers. 

Teeter (Jennifer Landon) and Colby (Denim Richards) escape the river after being attacked by Wade (Boots Southerland) and his son. Teeter has a huge cut on her head, which Colby staples together. He then kisses her, before driving back to the ranch for help.

Elsewhere, Walker (Ryan Bingham) finishes playing his song in a bar. A patron flirts with him and says he can spend the night at her house, but Walker says he is too miserable to join her. It’s about to get worse for him though, as he is ambushed by Rip (Cole Hauser) and Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) and put into the back of their truck.

Tate's education 

Following her excursion in episode 8, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) is battered and bruised. Kayce (Luke Grimes) tells her to stay in bed, while confirming she's not going to do anything like this again.

Monica tells Kayce they have to meet Tate’s (Brecken Merrill) teacher, but he has another idea. Why not homeschool Tate? Monica says she can't do it, as she's not ready to give up her career. Kayce wants to ask his father, especially as Tate will one day inherit the ranch. 

Monica initially questions this, saying she and John have very different parenting techniques, while reminding Kayce how hard he found it being raised by his father. Eventually, Monica subsides and says she'll talk to John about it.

Beth has a new boss

Beth (Kelly Reilly) arrives at her office, only to be greeted by Willa (Karen Pittman) sitting behind her desk. Willa says her shareholders now own most of Schwartz & Meyer, as well as all the land around Yellowstone that Beth had previously bought up.

Even though she's been impressed by Beth's efforts, Willa immediately fires her. Willa tells Beth once the sting of defeat leaves she should call her for a job. But Beth promises she's going to teach Willa a lesson, then departs proudly. Again impressed, Willa says, "I really like her."

Jamie meets his birth father 

Jamie goes to find his birth father. When no-one answers the door at the dilapidated house, Jamie goes to the backyard and finds Garret Randall (Will Patton).

Jamie introduces himself as the attorney general of Montana, explaining he's there to see if he can see any of him in Garrett. After realizing Jamie is his son, Garrett points out he has his mother's eyes. Jamie bites back, which leads to Garrett explaining why he killed his mother, saying she sold her body for drugs. 

Garrett is pleased Jamie clearly got the best parts of both of his birth parents, considering the lofty position he now holds. Jamie briefly goes back to his car. But he can't drive away. He goes back to the yard, says he's never known who he was or felt whole. Garrett invites him inside. 

Wade's backer is revealed 

Roarke (Josh Holloway) meets Wade and his son at his house. Wade tells Roarke they've been pushing Dutton hard, but don't want to go to prison or get killed. Roarke insists everything is justified. But Wade wants more men, as they're up against 12 people. Roarke says that's fine, he just needs Wade to keep poking Dutton until he does something he can't take back.  

Walker's return

Lloyd tells Kayce to meet Rip at the barn as they found something he was supposed to get rid of. That's when Kayce comes face to face with Walker again, who he was meant to kill but instead told to leave the state and never come back; Walker couldn't do that though because he was on parole. Rip wants answers. Kayce explains while he's killed plenty of people in combat, he never murdered anyone. 

With Walker tied up, Kayce wants to find the way out of his situation with the least bloodshed. Rip says Walker has seen too much and could talk to the police. The only resolution is they either own Walker or kill him. Walker agrees to work for the Yellowstone again. 

Kayce and Rip then see what Wade did to Teeter and Colby. When John finds out what happened, he tells Rip to take Wade and his son "down to the train station." He also tells Rip to get back what Wade has of his. 

As Mia (Eden Brolin) watches Jimmy (Jefferson White) and the rest of the wranglers load up their weapons, she tells Laramie (Hassie Harrison) the bunkhouse is losing its luster. Having just caught the attention of Walker, Laramie disagrees.

Retribution

At the fence, Walker works alone. Wade and his son go to attack him, Walker flees and they give chase. The other wranglers are hidden in the woods. When Wade and his son ride past they get behind them. 

Rip lassos Wade off his horse. Lloyd does the same to his son, but he hits his head on a rock and dies instantly. Wade isn't so lucky. Rip ties a noose around Wade's neck. He wants a name. After threatening to cut off body parts, Wade gives up Roarke.

Despite this, Rip tells Walker to get the Yellowstone brand off Wade's chest. Initially wary, Walker realizes this is his only way to survive. He carves the brand off Wade's chest, then Rip hangs him, while the other wranglers watch him die. 

Later, Lloyd and Walker throw Wade and his son's body off the cliff in Wyoming. Lloyd tells Walker they dispose of people here because no-one lives within 100 miles, and it's a county with no people, no sheriff and no jury. The skeletons of how the west was won are at the bottom of the canyon, he explains, and Walker needs to figure out how not to become one of them. 

Back at the ranch, Rip brands Colby, Ryan (Ian Bohen) and Teeter as they all fully agree to commit to the Yellowstone.

As "The Beating" opens, the wranglers herd cattle into a trailer. A few hours later, with the sun still not up, Rip (Cole Hauser) wakes Beth (Kelly Reilly) to say he's leaving for what's destined to be a long day. Beth convinces Rip to get back in bed so they have can sex before he goes.

Mia and Rip bond (sort of)

Rip heads down to the bunkhouse to find cowboys sharing their beds: Mia (Eden Brolin) with Jimmy (Jeferson White) and Laramie (Hassie Harrison) with Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith); meanwhile, Teeter (Jennier Landon) flirts with Colby (Denim Richards). Rip lays down the law to the rest of the wranglers, worried the bunkhouse is becoming Paradise Island. 

Mia wants to prove she's not a freeloader. With Jimmie still incapacitated, she vows to help Rip. After loading the trailer with an overly rambunctious horse, she tries to start various conversations in the long car ride to sell the animal, all of which Rip ignores. Mia then changes tactics and sings her favorite song aloud. Rip tells Jimmy he's going to kill him when they get home. 

At their destination, Rip, Mia and Jimmy are greeted by world champion rodeo-rider Sid Steiner, who Mia instantly recognizes. Sid's young son tests out the horse with Jimmy watching. Sid seemingly holds on and doesn't fall off the horse as it bucks. 

Sid tells Rip they won't buy it because it doesn't buck hard enough. This shocks Jimmy, who has been thrown off the same horse twice. Rip tells Jimmy the kid has already been riding for years, has three world champions who are teaching him "and he could still die." Jimmy realizes this is Rip's way of warning him not to return to rodeoing. But Rip insists to Jimmy it is still his choice.

Beth does what Rip can't

Beth walks in on John (Kevin Costner) thinking, something she's been seeing him do a lot of recently. John has a lot of decisions to make.

Having noticed just how much time Beth has been spending with Rip, he asks her if they're going to get married. Beth says if Rip asks her. But John knows Rip won't do that out of respect for him, she'll have to do the asking. So Beth asks for John's approval on behalf of Rip, which, after checking she is happy and in love, he grants. 

As Beth leaves, John apologizes to Beth. He wishes she'd been able to come to him when she was pregnant as a teenager and is sorry he made her too scared or feel like she couldn't. Through tears, she says she can come to him now and that's all that matters. 

After Rip returns home from his day with Jimmy and Mia, he quickly makes his way through a six-pack. He stops when Beth proposes, though. She wants him to live his life with her. Rip mentions asking for John's approval, but Beth says she handled it. 

Rip notes they can't technically get married because there's no evidence in the courthouse that he even exists. Beth tells Rip they don't need an official service. They can do it in front of the mountains and on the ranch so that they can prove, "there's no more you and I, just us."

Beth meets Thunder

Back to business, Beth walks into her office to meet Angela Blue Thunder (Q'orianka Kilcher). After being brought together by John and Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) to halt Market Equities' plans, Angela explains that CEO Willa Hays will try to get Beth fired. Beth isn't worried. When Angela asks about Jamie, Beth says they can't trust her brother at all. As Angela leaves, she tells Beth they'll have to get dirty. 

John and Kayce get into fights

Eating at the local diner, John is interrupted by Wade Morrow (Boots Southerland) and his son. After making a joke about what Wade endured in prison, Wade's son tries to attack John, who easily puts him down. John reminds Wade he stole "the one thing a cowboy doesn't steal." Wade says he's willing to fight John wherever and whenever. John tells Wade he has something of his he's going to get back, then leaves. 

Elsewhere, after finding their unbranded and untagged cattle have been stolen, Kayce (Luke Grimes), Hendon (James Jordan) and Ryan (Ian Bohen) visit ranches that might be selling them. At a livestock auction, Kayce spots a suspicious truck. When the driver sees Kayce he tries to drive away. But even on horseback, Kayce is able to lasso the driver around his neck and force him to stop. He gets the driver out of the car and begins to interrogate him with force. 

Kayce, Ryan, and Hendon arrive at a trailer where their stolen cattle are in a pen. As they walk around, a shotgun blast hits Ryan in the chest, while the glass door near Hendon smashes, too. Kayce kills the shooter. He then turns his attention to the livestock agents. Ryan is winded, but was saved by his vest. Hendon has been punctured by various shards of glass and is bleeding profusely. Kayce urgently calls for an ambulance. A girl screams and Kayce turns to see her standing over her dead dad's body. 

Jamie Dutton?

Ahead of a meeting with the governor, Jamie (Wes Bentley) needs to get his birth certificate. It takes the clerk a while to find it because … Jamie was adopted. The clerk tells a startled Jamie the files show his real father murdered his mother when he was just three months old. Jamie asks his assistant to find out if his father has been paroled. 

Later that night, Jamie confronts John, who explains how his father killed his mum with a shower head. John says he has a right to call Jamie son because he has housed and taught him, and provided him with love and kindness. Jamie asks if John knew his birth dad. John says he did and he begged Jamie's mother not to marry him, but she did anyway. 

He then tells Jamie he'll be able to find his birth dad. Once Jamie does, he can 'look into his black f***ing heart" and decide who he wants to call dad. John admits that, while his soul feels 16, his heart is tired. He never thought that he'd be tired of living while his body was still strong enough to do so. John goes to bed, telling Jamie, "Good night, son." Jamie stays and thinks.

"I Killed A Man" opens with a wrangler on a horse skillfully preventing a cow trying to get past it.

John (Kevin Costner) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) watch the cowboys ride. John tells Tate that he plans to buy horses for additional income, too. Kayce (Luke Grimes) joins them. Initially there to advise John not to buy a horse, he is immediately smitten by one he's looking at. 

John asks Kayce about Ryan (Ian Stuart Bohen) and Hendon's (James Jordan) recovery following the shootout. He has to do so quietly, because neither Monica (Kelsey Asbille) nor Tate know about it. That's bound to change, as John tells Kayce it's already in the paper. But while he's worried about what Monica may say, Kayce finds dozens of ranchers in his office who want to shake his hand for protecting them.

Wedding plans

John tries to get Rip (Cole Hauser) to discuss his plans with Beth (Kelly Reilly). Rip is hesitant, which makes John angry with his future son-in-law. "If you're joining the family can you please be the one person in it who f***ing talks to me?" 

Rip tells John he loves Beth and will always protect her. He then takes this chance to explain people are so scared of John because they're afraid they’re going to let him down. John tells Rip he's clearly not scared of anything as he's marrying Beth. 

With that taken care of, John tells Rip to find a new home for the horse that no one can ride. Rip asks Lloyd to join him on the six hour ride to Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range. When they arrive, Lloyd is puzzled, because Rip hasn't said anything to him for the entire drive. As they let the horse loose on the range, Rip tells Lloyd he's getting married and asks him to be his best man. 

Later, they go to a dive bar to celebrate, where Lloyd tells Rip he's outlived his past. They listen to a singer. Lloyd recognizes his voice. It's Walker (Ryan Bingham), who Kayce was supposed to kill last season. Lloyd declares: "He's supposed to be dead!" Rip continues to stare ahead and drink.

Monica takes a huge risk

Monica drives through the reservation when her car breaks down and she has no cell service. A truck soon offers her a ride to Billings. Monica considers it for a moment, then gets in.

On the way, the driver pulls off the main road. He tells Monica there's cell service in this secluded spot where she can call home. After he parks the car, he tells Monica to get out. She says she'll stay inside. He gets out of the truck to open her door. Monica makes a run for it. 

Halfway down a hill, the man catches up with Monica. He pushes her down, gets on top of her, and complains that the women always run. He starts to choke her but is then shot through the temple by a sniper. 

The sniper is Mo (Mo Brings Plenty). Monica gets up and, covered in blood, runs away. She's met by a number of police cars. Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) gets out of one and tries to console her. The rest of the officers look for other dead bodies. One blows a whistle, signaling that they found one. 

Rainwater tells Monica, "People talk about making a difference but they don't because they don't try. They don't risk. You risked everything. Today, you made a difference." More whistles echo around the area as more bodies are found. 

As Monica recuperates, she admits to Rainwater that she didn't tell Kayce about their plan. He then shows her the front-page of the paper, which breaks down how Kayce killed a cattle thief. 

Back home, while Monica showers, she makes Kayce come clean. He says he kept it a secret because he didn't want Monica to think he's a bad person, even though that's what he thinks of himself. Monica then admits she killed a man today. Kayce gets in the shower and helps to console his wife.

Teeter takes Colby skinny-dipping

After a hard-day fixing fences, Teeter (Jennifer Landon) hears a river near-by and asks Colby (Denim Richards) to come skinny-dipping. She instantly strips off and jumps in. A reluctant Colby tells himself that he's being tested by the lord, but still starts to undress. 

When he gets down to the river, Wade Morrow (Boots Southerland) and his son are watching them on horseback. After Colby tells them to get on their side of the fence, the pair ride their horses at Colby and Teeter. They're held underneath for a long period. Wade and his son ride off, leaving Teeter and Colby nowhere to be seen. 

Beth battles Market Equities

Beth continues to short Market Equities' stock, which Roarke (Josh Holloway) admits he's struggling to stop. Willa (Karen Pittman) says this is the day they squash Schwartz & Meyer. After much back and forth, Schwartz & Meyer's stock ends up sinking when Willa denies speculation that Market Equities were planning a hostile takeover. An exhausted and defeated Beth receives a call from Bob Schwartz's (Michael Nouri) assistant, setting up a meeting for the next day.  

John makes a decision

Jamie (Wes Bentley) tells Kayce of Market Equities $500 million offer for the valley. Jamie says if they refuse, Market Equities will likely end up beating the family in court for it anyway and getting the property for much less money. Jamie thinks they should accept the offer, as the ranch only has enough money to get by for one or two more years anyway. 

However, Beth's poisoning of their relationship means Jamie can't tell John about this dilemma and John doesn't want to hear about "numbers" from Kayce, so the news has to come from Beth. Willa sent a written offer to Jamie, which he gives to Kayce, who takes it to Beth.

Beth takes the offer to John. She breaks down the consequences of turning it down, with the land most likely still being taken away from them or John going bankrupt due to the property taxes. But John still rejects the offer. He made a promise and he'd rather lose the ranch than break it. John insists there must be another way, as he goes inside to bed, leaving Beth to contemplate their uncertain future.

"All For Nothing" opens on a woman we've never seen before. She's making breakfast when she realizes that her daughter didn't come home last night. She calls around, asking friends if Sila stayed with them. She spends all day hoping for her return. Finally, as night falls, she calls the police to report her missing. 

Who is this woman? What's happened to her daughter? Read on below to learn the answers to these questions and discover exactly what happens in Yellowstone season 3 episode 6. 

Another tragedy on the reservation 

After the police find a car abandoned on the road, Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) join in the search. Native American officer Ben Waters (Atticus Todd) tells Rainwater they believe Sila hitched a ride or attempted to walk home, adding they don't have the manpower to find her, though neither of them believe she's still alive.

Rainwater calls Kayce (Luke Grimes), explaining they don't have the resources to find Sila, something he’s tired of saying. Kayce immediately obliges by promising more officers and volunteers.

Kayce is true to his word. A large group of volunteers, including Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and her students, help police scour the reservation for evidence. It's Rainwater, though, who discovers Sila's dead body, left in a ditch.

Monica wants to do more

Monica takes Sila's death hard. Sitting in a huge bath in the Dutton mansion, she tells Kayce she feels guilty. Kayce insists it's not her fault. But Monica wants to make it her problem. She even goes back out to the reservation to try and find evidence for who killed Sila. 

Rainwater drives past. He warns Monica being out here is dangerous. After Monica says what happened to Sila isn’t fair, Rainwater explains reservations were only supposed to be temporary. Native Americans were meant to move to cities and learn to be white. But they refused and now the government ignores them and wants them to die so they can take the land. 

Rainwater tells Monica he wants the land so he can build lives for Native Americans that the government can't take. Monica asks how she can help. Rainwater is building a council that focuses on violence against women on reservations. He wants her to lead it and take their stories to universities, congress and anyone who'll listen. She says yes.

John reunites with Wade

John (Kevin Costner), Kayce, Rip (Cole Hauser) and Ryan (Ian Bohen) spot Wade (Boots Southerland), his deputy and their buffaloes. John teases his history with Wade, calling him half a criminal, then tells everyone to keep "cool heads" and ignore the pair as they look to move their cattle to another field away from the buffalo.

When their face to face, John immediately calls Wade a "son of a b****." Wade explains he's babysitting the buffalo, as the resort charges guests $600 for pictures with them. Knowing he's the livestock commissioner, Wade repeatedly pokes at Kayce, who bites back telling him he won't like how he keeps the buffalo out if they enter their field. 

After Kayce departs, John tells Wade, "You're too old for feuds." He tells his foe that old feuds are all he has left.

Jimmy is lost 

Back on the ranch, Jimmy (Jefferson White) watches his girlfriend Mia (Eden Brolin) and Laramie (Hassie Harrison) racing horses. Laramie flirts with Lloyd (Forrie J Smith), who tells Jimmy he can't believe he's smitten with her. 

Jimmy opens up to Lloyd about missing rodeoing and not knowing what he'll do without it. It was supposed to be his way out, but he can't decide if he'll return to rodeoing. Lloyd tells Jimmy he has to make the decision with his heart rather than his head, otherwise he'll regret it.  

Later on, having heard about the buffaloes and after drinking all night, the wranglers go to the field and watch Laramie ride one of them, with Teeter (Jennifer Landon) then following her.

Market Equities fight back

Roarke (Josh Holloway) meets Market Equities CEO Willa Hays (Karen Pittman) straight off a private plane. She complains his task was supposed to be simple. 

Roarke takes her to meet Jamie (Wes Bentley), where she immediately outlines his conflict of interest if the state buys Dutton's property. Jamie says there is no issue, as the state hasn't had an offer yet and any state purchase would need to be approved by the assembly and then voters. 

Willa believes the airport should be approved because it's bringing in thousands of jobs. They'll be low-paying jobs, Jamie points out, as the more lucrative positions will be hired out of state. He insists the hired workers will just be priced out of buying homes in the area. Willa says this is already the case. 

Willa finally puts in an offer of $500 million for the land. She doesn't want him to respond yet. She wants the offer to set in and they'll discuss it when they eventually meet with Governor Perry.

John finds out

This isn't Jamie's biggest problem, though. Jamie and Beth (Kelly Reilly) start off their day with another blistering argument, where she once again explains why his approach to protecting the family under his terms makes him evil. He even addresses taking her to be sterilized as a teenager, failing to take responsibility for it as he insists he was just trying to protect the family, which Beth again says just highlights how evil he is. 

Later on, Beth asks John how he is remaining so calm when there are so many threats to his way of life. Beth points out he can't delegate the fight to Jamie, Kayce doesn't have the patience or skill and she can't do it alone. John says she has to teach Kayce and trust Jamie. 

The latter point causes Beth to walk away in disgust, shouting, "You don't know him." John asks, "What is it you know that the rest of us don't? What did he do?" Beth stops and prepares to tell him.

John, apoplectic after Beth's revelation, bursts into the kitchen where Jamie is working. John tries to hit him, screaming at Jamie, "Who the f*** do you think you were to take that from her?" Jamie, realizing what this is about, says she asked for help and he was just a kid. 

Kayce comes in, splits the pair up and asks what's going on. John leaves, telling Jamie to explain everything to his brother. Jamie bursts into tears and breaks a window, telling Kayce he hates their father because all he does is give. Kayce holds him back as Beth listens to the argument from the other room. 

John stands in a field, looks out to the ranch, telling himself, "It's all for nothing. Everything I've done is for nothing."

Yellowstone season 3 episode 5, "Cowboys & Dreamers" brings the Taylor Sheridan western to its midpoint, with a trip back in time to reveal a lingering question: why does Beth hate Jamie so much?

Things open on young Beth (Kylie Rogers) in tears, a positive pregnancy test in her hand. She turns to her older brother Jamie (Dalton Baker) for help, who drives her to a clinic on the Indian Reservation. Jamie goes inside alone to talk to the receptionist. She insists he should just take her to the planned parenthood in Billings instead. Jamie says that’s not possible, handing her an ID that reveals they're from the Dutton family. The receptionist notes the people who get abortions here are sterilized. Jamie thinks for a moment, but still goes to get Beth and brings her inside.

Who was the father?

Still in the flashback, Beth goes to see Rip (Kyle Red Silverstein), telling him the pregnancy test was negative. She says they shouldn't do this anymore, leaving him alone in the stables. 

In the present, Beth (Kelly Reilly) wakes up startled next to Rip (Cole Hauser). She goes outside to the porch to regain her composure. Rip follows and asks what's wrong. Beth says she was dreaming about a memory, but won't go into detail. 

Rip wants to know, but all Beth will say is she's made two decisions in her life based on fear and they both cost her everything. She then starts to cry on his shoulder. 

Jamie's new role

Jamie (Wes Bentley) is sworn in as the new attorney general in front of a disinterested John (Kevin Costner). John makes Jamie recite the last line of the oath: "I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity, so help me God."

John departs, leaving Jamie with Governor Perry (Wendy Moniz). Jamie thanks her, but she says it's John who he needs to thank. But Jamie knows exactly why he's there, and it's not because of his father. 

One of Jamie's first acts is to call up Randy Harper (K.C. Clyde). Through coded language, Jamie makes it known to Randy the recent deaths of the two suspects in custody, as well as the lies they told to keep it hidden, will remain a secret, seemingly removing that threat over Jamie's head.

John and Rainwater catch-up

With John back at the ranch, Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) is finally able to catch-up with him. Their new mutual problem doesn't appear to be going away now that the Federal Aviation Administration has approved a portion of Yellowstone for the airport. 

John isn't worried, as the attorney general and governor would need to approve it, and he has both of them on his side. Rainwater isn't so confident, especially as the airport will create 4,000 jobs in a state where that makes a huge difference. Not approving it, will almost certainly cost Perry her position. 

John asks Rainwater why he doesn't want an airport on Yellowstone Ranch, as that will only increase the revenue at his casino. Rainwater makes it clear they want the same thing but for very different reasons. He doesn't actually want a second casino, as he believes it's an insulting and ironic way for the Indian Nation to make money. Like John, he just wants the land to remain the same, with Rainwater adding he wants it to look as it did before the white man arrived. 

Rainwater says they'll have their fight in the future. But there won't be anything to fight over if a city is built on Yellowstone. To stop Market Equities' planned construction, Rainwater wants to tie them up in court. Rainwater has a person who can do just that, as does John, so he wants the pair to work together. John agrees. 

Invasive Buffalo

Rip, Colby and Ryan spot several buffalo in a field next to theirs, as well as two men on horses. Rip tells them that the buffalo will scare their cattle. One of the men tells Rip that's not their issue. Unsurprisingly, Rip and the man soon come to blows. This provokes the other, older wrangler to draw a gun, at which point Ryan draws his own weapon as well as his livestock agent badge. 

The men back off and depart, but not before the older man reveals his name is Wade Morrow (Boots Southerland) and tells Rip to tell John Dutton hi from him. Rip worries that the buffalo are going to tear down the fence. 

Tate's pottymouth  

As the wranglers pack up the summer camp, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) asks Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) to leave up a tent so Tate, who doesn't want to leave, can keep coming back. After one too many swear words, she wonders how Tate's language became so bad, only to hear the wranglers using expletives. Monica asks Lloyd to stop and he promises to oblige. He then points out how tough Tate must be to have overcome the trauma he experienced so quickly.

Roarke and Beth round 2

Roarke (Josh Holloway) bounces up from his computer, having seemingly made a trade that solves Market Equities stock problem. His but celebratory walk to the river to fish is interrupted by a phone call telling him that the stock has actually lost another point. He breaks his fishing rod and goes back to his computer. 

Roarke tracks down Beth to a bar to have a frank talk about their stand-off. He can't understand why she's "poking a grizzly" and calmly explains why the Duttons will lose the land and it's better for them to just sell and become wealthy. Beth understands all that, but knows John won't sell. 

After Roarke warns Beth she's not equipped for the fight, she responds, "You are the trailer park, I am the tornado." Although she does agree to only short his stock after-hours so he can fish.

Kayce does the right thing

On his first day as livestock commissioner, Kayce (Luke Grimes) learns that rancher Boyd Nelson has committed suicide because the bank was going to foreclose his ranch. Spotting a number of horses on the property, Kayce knows the bank will take them. Even though he's aware it's illegal, he wants to sell the horses before the bank finds out. 

He asks his dad for advice, who says he'll help, but it's Kayce’s decision. Kayce rounds up the horses with the help of the wranglers and sells them for $16,000, which he gives to Boyd’s widow and two kids. 

Back at the bunkhouse, the wranglers return to see Jimmy (Jefferson White) has been released from hospital. He's with his girlfriend Mia (Eden Brolin) and her friend Laramie (Hassie Harrison). They drink and celebrate, with even Beth and Rip joining in. 

From the house, John drinks by himself and listens to the fun. Kayce says they should go down and join them. John admits, "I never had much luck leading men and being their friend." Maybe it'll be different for Kayce, though. John goes inside. Kayce considers going to the bunkhouse but then decides to sit on the porch alone and listen from afar.

Yellowstone season 3 episode 4, “Going Back to Cali,” immediately answers the question consuming every Yellowstone fan after the last episode.  

Jimmy (Jefferson White) is alive after his rodeo accident. But he's fractured his neck and back, and has a new hip. John (Kevin Costner) says he is paying for Jimmy’s treatment, but only if he promises never to rodeo again. Being good at rodeoing was the only thing that ever made Jimmy feel something, but John tells him to learn how to rope instead. However, the reappearance of Mia (Eden Brolin) suggests Jimmy will soon be feeling a brand new wave of emotions.

Mia hearts Jimmy

Mia tells Jimmy's nurse she is his girlfriend so she can see him, much to his delight. Although Jimmy does quickly joke he's not sure if he can be in a relationship with someone who shows such bad judgment. 

When Jimmy starts to complain about his neck, back and hip, she asks if his "pecker" is OK. She wants to consummate their relationship, but Jimmy's fear of the act possibly paralyzing him gives him reservations. That's not the only reason though. 

After prompting from Mia, Jimmy admits he’s a virgin. Mia looks to right that wrong immediately, all while Jimmy insists she’s too pretty for him, jokes again about what'll happen when her eyesight returns. Mia says he's the one who is blind, but she'll fix that. She removes her pants, gets on top of him and they start to kiss. 

Rainwater fights back

Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) meet with a lawyer to discuss how to circumvent Market Equities' Cease and Desist letter. It's explained to them that Ellis Steele (John Emmet Tracy) can entangle the tribe in court for years if they want. Rather than wanting the land, he believes Market Equities just doesn't want an Indian casino near their community. 

Rainwater needs the money from the casino to build his idyllic world where people live with the land and not on it. After the lawyer departs, Mo reminds Rainwater, "We've always known how to fight," they just haven't because they didn't want to be like their adversaries. Even though Rainwater knows it won't be popular with the tribe, the time has come to fight. 

Rainwater calls John and brings in Angela Blue Thunder (Q'orianka Kilcher). She immediately scolds Rainwater for wasting the casino’s money on land that’s about to be stolen by a Fortune 500 company, but she agrees to help solve his issues. Once she's left, Rainwater tells a skeptical Mo Angela's not really evil, she's just trying to punish the world for what it's done to her. 

Beth makes some bold moves

Beth (Kelly Reilly) decides to fight back against Market Equities, even though her boss Bob Schwartz (Michael Nouri) is a little nervous. Believing they don't have the permits to build an airport, she leaks details about Market Equities' plans. 

Roarke (Josh Holloway) sees the impact of Beth's actions while watching the business channel. Market Equities’ stock has dropped over 7.5% and further research online reveals there's speculation they have made bad investments in Montana. Roarke can't help but laugh at Beth's handiwork. 

With John still off at camp, Beth again makes herself at home with Rip (Cole Hauser). He warns her though, "When your dad gets tired of sleeping outside he's going to be wondering where his daughter's sleeping." But truly, Rip loves it. As does Beth, who even says she wants him to call her "wife."

Beth fears this declaration has ruined their relationship. But Rip reminds her he sees every day with her as a gift, especially as she's previously ran away whenever they've gotten close. Beth then makes a huge admission to Rip. The reason why she's always run away is that she can't have kids. She believes Rip needs to know that. Rip says Beth is all he needs.

Perry convinces Kayce

Governor Perry (Wendy Moniz) arrives at the ranch to see John, only to be told by Jake (Jake Ream) that he's still up at camp. After the Governor's security stops her from riding a horse, Jake rides Lynelle up there in a buggy where she finally talks with John. 

While she believes she'll only be there for a short time, John tells Jake to drive back to the ranch and not come back. She ultimately spends the night and is reminded of the power of nature and why so many people want to sell this idea to tourists. 

Over a short walk, Lynelle convinces Kayce (Luke Grimes) he doesn't need to be a politician to excel as livestock commissioner. She also tells him that if he says no, all of Yellowstone will soon disappear. 

Kayce asks Lynelle why she cares about keeping Yellowstone as it is; even he's spotted that building a city would be good for her. She says her job is based on keeping Montana growing "without stopping the thing that makes it Montana." Once she tells Kayce that he's running away from his destiny, he finally agrees, but insists he'll do the job his own way. 

John returns home

After buying cattle at auction, Rip, Lloyd (Forrie J Smith), Ryan (Ryan Bingham), Teeter (Jennifer Landon) and Colby (Denim Richards) spot a bunch of bikers drinking on their land. They quickly get into a fistfight with them. Even though they beat them and destroy their bikes, they know they'll look to ruin the field when they return for the debris. 

Later that night, the bikers do just that. Only to be greeted by John, Rip, Kayce, Ryan and Lloyd, all of whom have guns pointed at them. They force the bikers to dig their own graves. Several hours later, as the bikers stand in the graves and await death, John instead tells them to drive back to California because Montana doesn't want them.

As the bikers depart, John tells Kayce people want to build an airport here and he's not sure how to stop it. He then instructs Rip to dismantle his summer camp tent because he's returning to the lodge, adding, "My summer's over."

Yellowstone season 3 episode 3, “An Acceptable Surrender,” once again opens on dawn at the summer camp. Tate (Brecken Merrill) emerges from his tent to see John (Kevin Costner) peacefully watching nature at work. John tells Tate an elk is trying to lead a wolf away from her hidden baby. Feeling sentimental, John wants to make sure the baby elk isn’t killed. So he and his grandson pee in the bushes to mark the territory and scare the wolf off.

After briefly checking in on the cattle, John says Tate can choose what they do next. He picks going for a walk. As they stroll, John breaks down how difficult it is being a rancher, but ends it by telling Tate it's a great life.

But it's also a life full of surprises and complications, as "An Acceptable Surrender" makes clear.

Jamie cleans up

Jamie (Wes Bentley) meets with Livestock Agent Steve Hendon (James Jordan) in jail. Steve declares he was only doing what he was told when he accidentally killed the two perpetrators in episode 2. Jamie knows that won't keep him out of prison, so he creates a new version of events. The deputies who put the suspects into the trailer injured them first and Steve only broke so hard because he was avoiding an accident. Steve agrees to go with that story. 

When Randy Harper (K.C. Clyde) turns up at his office, Jamie warns he'll testify in court that Randy asked him to send an agent to assault the deceased. Jamie can do that because he recorded the call he had with Randy. Randy wants Steve to be convicted of the deaths, as that'll clear the situation up, but Jamie wants to protect his agent. After learning that both the dead were from out of state, Jamie tells Randy to make them John Does and say they were drunk when they were found dead. 

The final part of Jamie's cover-up is visiting the family of the girl who was attacked, as she saw everything. After the father admits he was planning to stand outside the courtroom to kill them, Jamie, in so many words, tells him that a livestock agent already did. The father is touched by Jamie's actions, tells him he should run for governor and promises that he and his daughter will keep the secret. 

Planes circling above

Governor Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz) and Attorney General Mike Stewart (Timothy Carhart), whose retirement is once again on hold as Cassidy Reid didn't work out, hold a meeting with Ellis Steele (John Emmet Tracy) to discuss Market Equities plans to build an airport and city in the area. 

After explaining how the airport could bring two million guests a year and $3-$6 billion in tax revenue, Ellis explains the original plans to turn the Sporting Club's golf courses into the airport have been canceled by the Federal Aviation Administration. Instead, they want it to be built in the middle of the Yellowstone Ranch.

Lynelle knows John won't sell, as does Ellis. That's why he wants her to invoke eminent domain to make him. John previously stopped Dan Jenkins, but Ellis is certain there's too much money and progress to be made for him to stop it again.

Beth confronts Roarke

Beth works at Rip's house, where she laments that the Yellowstone won't be there in a few generations. Rip plays down her fears, insisting people have been saying that for 150 years. But Beth knows the threat is now bigger than ever. 

After Lynelle's assistant tells Beth about the meeting with Market Equities, Beth goes to see Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway). Beth insists John won't sell the Yellowstone. Roarke declares his clients will spend millions of dollars and years in court to make him, knowing the Duttons can't afford that. 

As Beth leaves, Roarke adds that while they want to avoid a fight, they're not scared of one either. 

John returns home

John, Kayce, Monica and Tate return to the ranch, where they look at the new barn the ranchers have just finished building. Jamie arrives, telling John Lynelle has been trying to call with urgent information, but she can't get through; she wants to have a meeting with Jamie and John. While Jamie keeps it cool, inside he's terrified it's about the deaths he has just covered up. 

A retired John can't understand why she would want to meet him. He decides if Lynelle wants to talk to him, she has to come to the rodeo in Livingston, where everyone is going to watch Jimmy (Jefferson White) compete. 

All except for Colby (Denim Richards) and Teeter (Jen Landon). They have to watch the herd of cows. While they do that, Teeter flirts outrageously with Colby, who rejects her advances. 

Rodeo meeting

Lynelle arrives at the rodeo, where the Duttons sit in the stands. Beth tries to hold Rip's hand, but he pulls away. John spots this, then gives Rip permission to hold his daughter's hand, adding, "As if something can happen on the ranch I don't know about."

When it's just the two of them, John tells Lynelle he's here to have fun. She tries to oblige by giving him the solution tonight and the problem tomorrow. She wants to appoint Jamie interim attorney general, while John will need to find a new livestock commission. 

But John doesn't have anyone to replace Jamie. Lynelle suggests Kayce, but John says he's already turned it down. Lynelle proposes she ask him instead.

The Duttons sit back to watch Jimmy compete. He has even drawn the attention of Mia (Eden Brolin), a barrel racer who seduces Jimmy and asks him out on a date. But Lloyd (Forrie J Smith) wants Jimmy to focus.

Jimmy, however, is still looking at Mia as the gates open. Jimmy is thrown off the horse, provoking a violent snap. Everyone in the arena goes quiet, as an ambulance drives into the venue and paramedics surround Jimmy, who just lays there unconscious and seriously injured.

In a surprising turn of events, every member of the Dutton family has found peace in Yellowstone season 3 episode 2, "Freight Trains and Monsters."

John (Kevin Costner) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) are out at the summer camp with the cattle, while Kayce (Luke Grimes) is keeping them safe from a wolf. Jamie (Wes Bentley) is the new livestock commissioner and Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) have never been closer.

But as is always the case with Yellowstone, there's trouble on the horizon. While the Dutton family are quite relaxed right now, we're given a proper introduction to the people and issues that are set to plague them over the rest of the season. Here's what happens in Yellowstone season 3 episode 2. 

A simple life

Down at the camp, John greets Tate with a huge smile, delighted that his grandson has had his first full night of sleep since his kidnapping. As the pair head off to fish, Tate asks John why they can't live at the camp all the time. Overjoyed by the peace and serenity of nature, John admits he asks himself that very same question every day. 

After receiving one too many business phone-calls, John tells the ranchers to move the camp slightly up the hill. This isn't so he gets better service, it's the opposite. John wants no phone signal so he doesn't have to deal with the outside world.

Monica and Rip come to camp

After waking up alone in the house and on the ranch, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) joins Rip and Jake (Jake Ream) on a trek to the summer camp so she can see Tate. She has to borrow Jake's horse, though, because the ones left behind are just a bunch of "freight trains and monsters." When she arrives she's greeted by a jubilant Tate. 

Meanwhile Rip thanks John for giving him the cabin and calling him son in the adjoining letter. John tells Rip that Kayce wants him to run the bunkhouse, before quickly adding they need more wranglers. John asks what happened to Avery (Tanaya Beatty). Rip says she was always going to leave because she's a drifter, but agrees they should hire another female wringer, as Avery kept the bunkhouse honest. 

Later, Rip holds a job fair and hires Teeter (Jen Landon), a Texan wrangler with expert roping and riding skills, but an unintelligible accent.

Kayce & the Wolf

Monica hunts down Kayce, who himself is on the prowl for the wolf that's unsettling the cattle. After setting his eye on Monica and her admitting she's been bored, the pair start having sex in the woods. Of course, the wolf picks this time to reveal itself. Kayce and Monica stare at the animal. Unperturbed, Monica and Kayce have sex in front of the wolf who just watches.

At night, while watching Tate sleep peacefully, Monica tells Kayce she too wishes their lives could be so serene like this everyday. Kayce promises he'll make it happen, adding she'll have to give up a lot. Monica reminds Kayce she's already given up everything to be with him. 

Later, Kayce's sleep is interrupted by the sound of the cows mooing. He goes outside to see the wolf staring at the herd. Rather than shooting it, Kayce talks to it, insisting they're enemies but the wolf can have the forest, the valley is for the cows. Kayce promises to kill the wolf if it ever comes back to attack the cows. 

When the wolf leaves, Kayce turns around and sees John standing there. Kayce is a little embarrassed, but John tells him his father used to speak to the animals and they'd listen. As John goes back to being completely isolated from work, Kayce tells his dad he loves him, which causes both of them to stop dead in their tracks. 

The next night, after sharing a story about his last words to his wife and Kayce's mom, an emotional John tells his son he's struggling to see the point in life, as all he seems to do is find someone he loves, then lose them. He wonders aloud if there's a plan, because he can't see one at the moment. Kayce reminds him he can't see it because they're not just currently inside the plan, they're standing on it too.

Bad neighbor

Beth learns through a meeting with Bob Schwartz (Michael Nouri) that the man helping Market Equities buy up the land surrounding Yellowstone is none other than Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway), who she innocuously ran into in the last episode. 

Having realized Market Equities doesn't just want to build a golf course or casino, but construct an airport and then an entire city, Beth goes to see Roarke. During their talk, Roarke says he knows all about the Duttons killing off their competition, adding that they're the reason the old west is still running wild. He promises to bring that to an end. 

When Beth asks what he thinks will happen to all the ranchers when Market Equities are finished, Roarke says they won't have to be ranchers anymore because they will be so rich.

Jamie's luck  

Jamie, now the livestock commissioner, arrives at the office to a phone call from district attorney Randy Harper (KC Clyde). Two people sexually assaulted a young rancher before robbing her of her horses, truck, trailer and everything she owns. Jamie says he'll sort it, only for Randy to add that Jamie will make a lot of friends if he does it the right way and sends a message. 

Livestock Agent Steve Hendon (James Jordan) finds the perpetrators. He handcuffs them, puts them in the back of a trailer and drives it around viciously, sharply braking so that they fling all over the place. 

When Hendon opens up the trailer in front of several other officers, they immediately see that the duo have died from their injuries. The episode ends with Hendon calling Jamie from prison, telling his new boss that they have a big problem.
