Corrie star Brooke Vincent revealed to Good Morning Britain she'd been hounded by online trolls

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has hit out at trolls who criticise her for having bad skin.

The actress, 24, who plays Sophie Webster on the ITV soap, is involved in a storyline about online abuse.

She told Good Morning Britain: “I think people just like to have an opinion.

“Growing up, I have had bad skin so that’s my thing that they go to, ‘you’re spotty’ or whatever, ‘I don’t like this outfit or I don’t like it when you do this’.

“Social media has just given people the opportunity to sit at home in their own comfort zone and go ‘I don’t like that. I’m going to write that to you’.”

Brooke told Eamonn Holmes: “You say we turn detective, but we are more like the Chuckle Brothers.

“We try and find out who has been trolling our mum….

“The final scene reminds me of Legally Blonde when she’s in court… It’s really funny in the midst of it being really sad as well.”

Brooke Vincent tells Soaplife she’s happy to be back in Corrie…but can’t guarantee she’s back for good!

Last year, when Brooke Vincent took time out from the Street to appear in the stage play Be My Baby, she was worried. “To begin with, I had real fears about being on stage, when you get just one chance and one chance only,” she told Soaplife. “I had to face those fears and also I had to concentrate so hard – not easy when I have the attention span of a goldfish! I hope my experience in the theatre has made me a better actress. I did enjoy it while it lasted but I’m very happy to be back on Corrie.”

We’re loving the sister stuff with Sophie and Rosie Webster! “It’s been good – we’ve been messing about! Helen [Flanagan, who plays Rosie] and I have known each other for a very long time so it’s good fun and we have loads of laughs. We have the same sense of humour. She finds me funny and I find her funny.”

Has Helen changed much? “She’s always been very warm and lovely but she has come back with a lot of mummy stories about [her daughter] Matilda, which is really nice. We stayed in touch but didn’t always see very much of each other.”

You’ve been in Corrie since you were 11… Are you now more used to being in the public eye? “Yes, but you never get totally used to it. There are times when you want to go out with your friends and you don’t want to be pictured. It’s also annoying when people you don’t know give their opinions on stuff they know nothing about. But you’ve just got to deal with it and realise it’s part and parcel of it all.”

Are you still dating Man City footballer, Kean Bryan? “We’re still together. You’re making me go red! It’s so hard to kind of find the balance of what you say to people and what you choose to keep back. As you get older I think you learn that it’s nice to keep something for yourself. I’ve known him a while but it’s just, you know, it is what it is. That’s all what I can say!”

Is true that you’ve been fed up with the way Sophie’s lesbianism has been portrayed in Corrie? “I have been a bit! I think that just because Sophie’s a lesbian, not everything she does should be about that. It doesn’t need to be brought up or written about every time we do a scene. It’s not as if every lesbian fancies every other lesbian they meet! I’m straight and don’t fancy every boy I meet! There’s more to people than their sexuality. Our producer Kate Oates is lovely and she gets it. She says, ‘No, we don’t need to see you kissing a girl on a Thursday to know that you’re still a lesbian’.”

So are you back in Corrie for good? “This is an amazing job, I work with amazing people and it feels like I’ve come home. But I’m not as scared as I was to say that I might go off from time to time and do other things. I might be like Chris [Gascoyne, who plays Peter Barlow] and dip in and out. Working in the theatre means I’ve come back to Corrie with a different mind set and it’s made me want to better my character here.”

If you were to take time out again, what might you like to do? “I did some guest presenting for one of our local radio stations and really enjoyed it. I liked being myself, having my own input and being able to say what I wanted. It was very interesting being able to act on impulse, although I did have to watch what I said!”

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has been talking about what happens after Friday night’s episode (April 1), when she saw Kate in her wedding dress and we all saw that she’s fallen for her.

Kate’s girlfriend Caz (Rhea Bailey) phoned and broke the “moment” between them – and she wasn’t at all happy when she realised Sophie was with Kate (Faye Brookes)…

She’ll be fighting mad if she hears Kate telling Sophie she dreams of not turning up for her own wedding in next week’s episodes.

“I’ve had the dream like 20 times,” Kate said.

“But you love Caz, don’t you? You’re besotted with her, aren’t you?” Sophie asked.

“Yeah,” said Kate, unconvincingly.

“Kate wants a bit of the old Soph-meister, yes she does!” says Brooke in a Corrie interview.

And that becomes very clear next week.

“Caz knows you and me are, like, mates, doesn’t she?” Sophie says.

“Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, just mates,” Kate says quickly – not looking sure about being “just mates” at all.

“So Kate and Sophie’s little friendship seems to be developing,” adds Brooke.

“We’ll see how long your engagement lasts, Caz!”

We wouldn’t let Caz hear you talking like that! She returns to the Street and she goes straight for Sophie…

“To be fair, Sophie does take a step back. She makes the effort to be friends with Caz,” says Brooke.

But Caz is having none of it, as viewers will see.

“Just keep your distance, okay?” Caz says, definitely not in a friendly manner.

“Caz, me and Kate are just friends,” Sophie insists. “You’ve got it so wrong.”

Caz warns Sophie to back off – or else!

“Shall I spell it out?” Caz says, getting right up in Sophie’s face. “Don’t mess with me or you’ll know about it.”

“Caz doesn’t like Sophie,” says Brooke.

That’s an understatement.

Caz is a trained soldier and has threatened her. Sophie should be wearing blinkers around Kate from now on!

Especially after Kate postpones the wedding and causes chaos.

“I still want to marry you one day,” Kate tells Caz. “It’s just that at this moment in my life I’m not ready.”

“Sophie goes to see Kate, to see if she’s okay,” Brooke reveals. “And then all the tension and the emotions take over them both and a bit of a kiss happens…” (on Thursday, April 7).

And Caz sees it!

“Obviously, with this kiss, there’s a lot more drama,” Brooke says.

Hope Sophie’s got a bullet-proof vest! We have a horrible feeling her attraction to Kate could prove fatal.

We know Brooke will be leaving the soap in a few months. It’s not supposed to be a permanent exit – but Caz’ could change all that…

The storylines on soap live episodes are so well protected that Michael Le Vell has revealed he lost £200 betting on Rita Tanner dying in Corrie's 50th anniversary live episode.

Rita survived but Ashley Peacock and Molly Dobbs perished in the tram crash.

But Michael told What's on TV that screen daughter Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) convinced him that Rita was going to die in the tram crash, so he rang a bookmaker friend and put £200 on it.

Michael laughed: "I told someone else and someone else... So much for inside information. I don't even gamble! [Pointing to Brooke] You owe me two hundred quid by the way!"

The nerves and excitement are building for the Corrie cast.

Michael said: "We are very nervous and very excited because the simple fact is there's going to be a lot more words involved in this one, not necessarily for us, because there's no big tram crash filling in all that air space, big pages of just action and firemen and all that. This is going to be character driven and storyline  driven so it means a lot of characters will have a lot more words to say, so that's the nervy bit... Hping we won't have any big monologues or tongue twisters!"

Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent tells Soaplife about her passion for fashion, as well as her character’s family affairs...

Sophie Webster definitely does not have a wardrobe bursting with this season’s fashion must-haves. But Brooke Vincent, who plays her, is a very different girl - she just loves her fashion.

“I recently started writing a blog about clothes, shoes, hair, make-up and looks in general,” says Brooke. “I’m really enjoying it, although it can be quite challenging deciding just what to put in. My personal style icons are Gwen Stefani and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. They always look amazing yet highly original and funky at the same time.”

Are you more designer or High Street?

“High Street, definitely. Zara is my ultimate go-to fashion store, although I love Top Shop, River Island and H&M, too. Who doesn’t? There’s a brilliant on-line store called ‘Lavish Alice’ which I’m loving right now. Their fabrics, cuts and styles look designer, but most of the prices definitely aren’t. When it comes to designers, though, I particularly like Miu Miu.”

And do you have a favourite look?

“It depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to look girly, at other times more boyish. Although I like wearing black and white, I like experimenting with vibrant colours, too.”

Do you clear out your wardrobe each season?

“No, I’m a hoarder. Every drawer and cupboard is full to bursting. I’d love a walk-in wardrobe.”

Would you like to start your own label?

“Oh, I’d love it! Sometimes I’ll go out looking for a particular outfit and I just can’t find what I have in mind. I would love to have a range – dressy and casual - so I could get exactly what I wanted.”

What’s your big fashion weakness?

“Probably shoes. I just love them – both heels and trainers. I must have about 60 pairs of shoes in all. I’m quite organised and keep them in boxes so I know where they all are. I also have loads of handbags, which I never use!”

What do you think of Sophie’s style in Corrie?

“She’s practical rather than fashionable, which is a good thing because when I’m filming outside, I know I’ll be warm enough. Sometimes I’ll wear something of hers at home, but it always feels odd.”

Speaking of Sophie, what’s coming up for her in the special ‘live’ episode of Corrie on September 23?

“She’s involved with what’s going on in her family. Tim [Joe Duttine] finds out about Sally and Kevin’s kiss and so there’s a lot of fall-out from that. What’s especially brilliant about this live episode is that it’s character and story-led rather than being a big set piece. It’s classic Corrie. I’m nervous, but incredibly excited.”

Does Sophie want her mum and dad to get back together?

“I don’t think so. I think Sally does Sophie’s head in. Their roles are a bit reversed at the moment and Sophie’s like the mum rather than the daughter. That’s good; it shows a part of Sophie growing up on screen. There are lots of little things that will show this as we go into the autumn.”

Are Sally Dyvenor and Michael Le Vell (who play Sally and Kevin) a bit like your parents in real life?

“Yeah, they are. I’ve been in Corrie since I was 11 so I’ve grown up around them. I’ve learned lots from them both. It’s not just work, though. Michael helped me with my tax return the other day. Or at least he tried to. He put his glasses on and everything! He got it wrong and I had to correct him, but at least he had a go! The best piece of advice he’s ever given me? ‘Don’t start breakfast when you’re due on set in 10 minutes!’”

Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent and Amy Kelly say their relationship is about to move to another level as they help Simon Barlow get over the death of his beloved Tina.

The fractious young lovers Sophie and Maddie have had it tough since they got together last year. Sophie's mum Sally was deadset against their relationship and the pair finished up sleeping rough, while Maddie's thieving hasn't endeared her to the locals. But they're heading for a period of calm.

Brooke told What's on TV: "Since we've started it's been up and down, up and down... I think they're settling us down for a bit, which is really good. But you still see the background of [Maddie's] life. You still see the problems she has to go through, for something that's so normal for me to sit down and have a meal with my family, she can't do that."

Amy said that part of the girls' new maturity involves a plot based around Simon's bad reaction to the death of Tina.

She said: "That's why it's so interesting with Simon, because everything that's going on is post Tina's death, he's really depressed with it. I think that's why it's so important to find that similar ground with him, because she's used to the troubled background..."

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has revealed she has no qualms about kissing women.

"Kissing a girl is like kissing a boy - close your eyes and hope for the best!" said Brooke.

The 21-year-old, who plays lesbian Sophie Webster on the ITV soap, admitted she doesn't even get nervous about the kissing scenes, after previously locking lips with Sacha Parkinson, who played Sophie's ex, Sian.

"I don't get nervous, but Amy Kelly, who plays Maddie, has never done it before," Brooke also told Closer magazine.

Brooke, who has been dating footballer Josh McEachran for two years, revealed she loves being friends with former co-star Helen Flanagan, who played Sophie's elder sister Rosie.

"Helen's so funny… Something terrible could happen to me and she'll say, 'Oh, that's awful'. Then she'll drop her bronzer on the floor, it'll crack and she'll be in floods of tears," she admitted.

Sophie Webster got a shock when homeless girl Maddie gave her a kiss. Not a bad one, though. In fact it was something Sophie had been hoping might happen. “So she meets Maddie in the park to talk about it, but Sally, turns up, and Maddie runs off," says Brooke.

Sophie and Sally follow Maddie and what she discovers makes her feelings for the girl even stronger. . .

Where does Sophie follow Maddie to?

“A flat. Sally’s with Sophie and they knock on the door. Maddie’s mum answers and it’s clear the woman is quite unstable. They also find out Maddie has a little brother in foster care. Maddie’s usually feisty and hard-faced to Sophie, but in front of her mum she’s quiet, loving and soft. It’s a real eye-opener.”

Is this when Sophie tells Maddie how she feels?

“Not really. She just wants to help her. The fact Maddie’s so troubled makes Sophie want to become even more involved.”

That’s not what Sally wants! Will she cause problems?

“Sally disapproves of everything, but Sophie’s at that stage in life where she’s not that bothered what Sally thinks any more. If Sophie decides to do something, she’ll do it.”

In a complete about-face, Sophie actually confides in Tim... Is she starting to like him?

“I think Tim is starting to understand Sophie now. The fact Sophie’s a lesbian has never been mentioned and she doesn’t feel Tim’s judging her. Tim tells her he thinks she likes Maddie more than she’s letting on.”

Is Sophie in love with Maddie?

“I wouldn’t go that far, but she has very strong feelings for her and thinks about her all the time.”

Maddie has a lot of baggage. Can Sophie handle it?

“Definitely. That doesn’t scare Sophie - she likes the challenge.”

Could Maddie lead Sophie astray?

“Possibly… but Sophie is very grounded, with strong morals, so hopefully she’ll be able to resist that side of Maddie.”

Maddie’s not like Sophie’s previous girlfriends, is she?

“She’s completely different, but maybe that’s what Sophie needs. With Maddie it’s like she has the upper hand. We’ve seen Sophie call Maddie’s bluff, we’ve seen her get aggressive when Maddie stole the watch. It’s good to see that side of Sophie because she’s usually so saintly.”

Sophie and Maddie haven’t got off to a great start, what with Maddie nicking Sally’s bag and watch… What’s the attraction?

“I think Sophie intrigues Maddie. Sophie’s massively determined to get to know her and Maddie can’t get her head around that. She’s never had that much attention before, certainly not positive attention, anyway! Maddie doesn’t really know what to do with it. I think Maddie has met her match. Nobody has ever stood up to her before, so maybe that’s why Sophie’s different.”

So why steal Sally’s bag?

“She and Sophie don’t really know each other at that point. Maddie just wants to put Sally back in her box. She wants to put people in their place!”

Does she think that Sophie fancies her too?

“Initially, Maddie isn’t sure. Maddie is flirty with Sophie when she starts to think that Sophie might have feelings for her. Maddie rises to the challenge. It’s only when they start to get to know one another and Maddie starts to let Sophie in a little bit that they both realise there could be something bigger between them.”

How does Sophie find out about her background?

“Sophie gets a job writing for the shelter’s magazine and she accidentally-on-purpose uses the opportunity to do some detective work on Maddie. She asks Eleanor, who works at the shelter, lots of questions about Maddie’s background and finds out Maddie has a family.”

So how does the kiss come about?

"It’s extremely unexpected. She tells Sophie afterwards that she did it because she felt like it, and I think that’s the truth. Just before Maddie kisses Sophie, she’s really angry at her for sticking her nose in and checking up on her background. At that point we think Maddie is going to lose it, but instead she kisses her.”

What do you enjoy about playing Maddie?

“She has so many emotions she just doesn’t know what to do with them; her behaviour is so unpredictable. And she has a sharp sense of humour, which is a lot of fun.”

Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent has hinted that there could be a new love interest for her character Sophie Webster.

The 21-year-old teased that romance could be on the cards for her alter-ego, with the arrival of a new character on Coronation Street at Christmas.

"Things are going to get interesting for Sophie. There's a new character coming into the show that is really going to shake things up," she told the Daily Star Sunday.

A new relationship for Sophie would come two years after her best friend and girlfriend Sian Powers, played by Sacha Parkinson, left Weatherfield. She has since dated her physiotherapist Jenna Kamara.

Brooke, who has renewed her contract with Coronation Street for another two years, confessed she doesn't know what writers have planned for Sophie.

"I just go with the flow. I trust the writers to do what is right," she said. "For example, my lesbian storyline - I didn't see that coming at all, but that was really good. The writers really do know best."

Coronation Street bosses have denied reports that former Waterloo Road actress Chelsee Healey will be the newcomer on the show, confirming that the part has been given to an unknown actress.
