Typically we're not crazy about the end of summer arriving, but one silver lining to the change in seasons is the launch of the fall TV slate, which always brings a bevy of new shows to the networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and various cable channels) and streaming services (Apple TV Plus, Hulu, Netflix, Peacock and more).

Fall 2025 is looking to have a solid lineup for viewers, both with a range of new shows and returning favorites. To help you identify some of the biggest comedies, dramas and reality TV series that you should be keeping an eye on, my colleagues Sarabeth Pollock, Terrell Smith and I are offering our most anticipated fall TV shows and why they're must watch.

The Paper (Peacock)

The Office is, without a doubt, one of my favorite shows of all time. If you were to ask my friends, they’d probably tell you I can even quote lines from specific episodes of the series. It’s because of my love for The Office that I’m optimistic about the sequel show, The Paper.

The new mockumentary follows the employees of a dying newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, as they try to deal with job uncertainty along with the ebbs and flows of their personal lives. The concept of The Paper and The Office are similar, I just want the comedy of both shows to be similar as well. — Terrell Smith

The Paper premieres Thursday, September 4, exclusively on Peacock.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 (AMC)

After spending the first two seasons in France, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 is moving to Spain. Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) are still trying to get home and it looks like there could be a path, but it means venturing into Spain. They’ll face new challenges and new threats in addition to the hordes of undead wandering around.

Daryl Dixon will spend the next two seasons in Spain before the series bows at the end of season 4, so fans will be watching to see how Carol and Daryl’s arrival sets up the beginning of the end of their journey. — Sarabeth Pollock

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 premieres Sunday, September 7, on AMC and AMC Plus.

Only Murders in the Building season 5 (Hulu)

It's just not fall without an Only Murders in the Building mystery to solve. Since 2021, the series has probably been my favorite show on TV thanks to their clever mysteries, fantastic writing and directing, great supporting casts, but most importantly the wonderful and hilarious chemistry between stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short.

The show has yet to let me down, which is why I'm stoked to watch Only Murders in the Building season 5, which will attempt to solve who killed the Arconia's doorman Lester, with a host of suspects and new guest stars to choose from.

Only Murders in the Building season 5 premieres Tuesday, September 9, exclusively on Hulu.

High Potential season 2 (ABC)

I started High Potential when it premiered on ABC last fall and loved Kaitlin Olson’s performance as a struggling single mom who has an incredibly high IQ and becomes a consultant for the LAPD, but I got behind on the show and have had to play catch up. But I’m determined to stay up to date with High Potential season 2, as it is probably my most anticipated network TV show this fall.

I'm excited to see Olson’s Morgan Gillroy back on the case, using her unorthodox investigating skills, bantering with her partner (Daniel Sunjata) and trying to unravel what happened to her husband after he mysteriously disappeared years earlier. — Michael Balderston

High Potential season 2 premieres on Tuesday, September 16, on ABC; streams on-demand the following day on Hulu.

Gen V season 2 (Prime Video)

It’s been nearly two years since Gen V premiered, and as a fan of nearly all things The Boys, you can imagine my excitement to see the spinoff series pick up where it left off with Gen V season 2.

With Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Emma (Lizze Broadway) and the other actual “heroes” now portrayed as enemies of Homelander (Antony Starr) and Vought, I’m intrigued to see how the young supes get out of their predicament. On a sadder note, based on the trailer, I get the sense that the real-life death of show star Chance Perdomo, who portrayed Andre, will be handled with care and respect in the new episodes. — Terrell Smith

Gen V season 2 premieres Wednesday, September 17, exclusively on Prime Video.

Love Island Games season 2 (Peacock)

Love Island Games season 2 finally arrives this fall, nearly two years since the first season of the series premiered. Having become a major fan of Love Island USA and just wrapped Love Island USA season 7, the biggest season of the franchise to date, I’m ready to see which past islanders will be competing in the next round of Love Island Games and what romantic connections will be formed.

I’m hoping to see Love Island USA season 5’s Leo and season 7’s Coco, Andreina Santos-Marte and Jeremiah all back on screen in Love Island Games season 2. — Terrell Smith

Reasonable Doubt season 3 (Hulu)

During its tenure on air, Reasonable Doubt has provided a nice fix for my craving for high-octane legal dramas. With Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder and Your Honor, all resting in the annals of TV history, Reasonable Doubt has stepped into the void and is doing an exceptional job showcasing the journey of high-profile attorney Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi).

Since Reasonable Doubt season 2 ended on a cliffhanger in regards to Jax and Lewis (McKinley Freeman) being sued over the death of Lewis’ baby with Toni (Tristan Cunningham), I can't wait to see if this becomes the case Jax is dealt a loss. — Terrell Smith

Reasonable Doubt season 3 premieres Thursday, September 18, exclusively on Hulu.

Chad Powers (Hulu)

Ted Lasso was born from a NBC Sports commercial for the Premier League; is our next great sports comedy going to have similar origins?

Chad Powers stars Glen Powell as a disgraced college quarterback who attempts to get a second chance at glory by donning some makeup and a wig and going by the alias Chad Powers to be a walk-on at a struggling program. The series was inspired by a prank video that featured two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning attend tryouts at Penn State.

Ted Lasso may be lofty expectations, but I’ve been a big fan of just about everything Powell has done in recent years, so count me in on this one. — Michael Balderston

Chad Powers premieres Tuesday, September 30, exclusively on Hulu.

Task (HBO)

Remember how Mare of Easttown, the Kate Winslet-led crime drama, had us all hooked back in 2021? Well, Brad Ingelsby, the creator of Mare of Easttown, is back with another series set in the Philadelphia suburbs.

In Task, Mark Ruffalo stars as an FBI agent who leads a task force created to put an end to a violent string of robberies in the area. There won’t be any mystery for audiences as to who is doing the crimes, as Tom Pelphrey (Outer Range) has been tapped for that role, but the hunt by Ruffalo and his team to take him down has the potential to be pretty compelling TV. And the pedigree of HBO and Ingelsby's last series bodes well. — Michael Balderston

There is no confirmed premiere date for Task at this time, though HBO has confirmed that the series will premiere in September, streaming simultaneously on HBO Max.

Abbott Elementary season 5 (ABC)

Over the past four seasons, Abbott Elementary has absolutely been the best comedy series in my opinion, so, of course, I’m excited for Abbott Elementary season 5. I can’t wait to see Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) take their relationship to the next level, Ava (Janelle James) get reacquainted with her job as principal and what other obstacles the Abbott crew faces as they just try to teach in this modern age. Also, who doesn’t want to see more quirky moments from Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis)? — Terrell Smith

Abbott Elementary season 5 premieres Wednesday, October 1, on ABC; streams on-demand on Hulu the following day.

Nobody Wants This season 2 (Netflix)

If Kristen Bell is in it, I’m usually invested in the project (sans Frozen, which I’ve embarrassingly enough haven’t seen). So when Nobody Wants This debuted last year on Netflix, I quickly powered through the episodes and loved the funny take on opposites attracting and falling in love. She was brilliant as Joanne, an agnostic dating podcaster, falling for Adam Brody’s Noah, a modern rabbi.

In season one, the duo faced a few obstacles as a couple, so I’m left wondering what additional obstacles they may face in season 2, especially given Noah’s promotion in the temple. — Terrell Smith

Nobody Wants This season 2 premieres Thursday, October 23, exclusively on Netflix.

Talamasca: The Secret Order (AMC)

The Anne Rice Immortal Universe is expanding with a brand new spinoff, Talamasca: The Secret Order. Based on the secretive society of observers who keep watch over the world’s supernatural residents, the series will be a spy thriller that sees the agents furtively keeping tabs on witches, vampires and other supernatural beings all over the world.

What we love about this series is that it has the potential for lots of crossovers between Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, so that means we get to see more from our favorite immortals. — Sarabeth Pollock

Talamasca: The Secret Order premieres Sunday, October 26, on AMC and AMC Plus.

Down Cemetery Road (Apple TV Plus)

Slow Horses remains one of my favorite shows on TV, and I’m excited about Slow Horses season 5. However, I’m just a bit more intrigued by the potential of Down Cemetery Road, a new Apple TV Plus series that is based on a book series by Slow Horses author Mick Herron.

Emma Thompson stars as a private investigator who helps Ruth Wilson in the search for a missing young girl, which quickly spirals into a wide-ranging conspiracy.

Premiering right after Slow Horses ends, it could be the perfect complimentary series and another exciting thriller to stream on Apple TV Plus. — Michael Balderston

Down Cemetery Road premieres Wednesday, October 29, exclusively on Apple TV Plus.

The American Revolution (PBS)

2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, so there are going to be plenty of celebrations revolved around that, including probably more than a few TV specials. It’s a little early, but one of those is a PBS documentary series from Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David P. Schmidt, The American Revolution.

Burns has made a name for himself with his in-depth documentaries, including previous ones about the Civil and Vietnam wars. We all know the basics about the American Revolution, but expect for Burns and his co-creators to dive into things that we may never have known about but should not be forgotten. — Michael Balderston

The American Revolution premieres Sunday, November 16, on PBS.

Stranger Things season 5 (Netflix)

At long last, the final season of Stranger Things is here. It’s been more than three years since Stranger Things season 4 set up the end game in the battle between our Hawkins heroes and the Upside Down, so expectations are high for the Duffer Brothers and company to close out the series.

Netflix is making sure that the series is at least getting an epic rollout, with Stranger Things season 5’s eight episodes broken into three parts. The first four premiere in time for Thanksgiving, the next three as a Christmas Day treat, and the Stranger Things finale dropping on New Year’s Eve.

I honestly am having a hard time remembering a series that has had this much anticipation around its finale since Game of Thrones. Here’s hoping they stick the landing better. — Michael Balderston

All Her Fault (Peacock)

When Marissa (Sarah Snook) sends her son on his first playdate, the last thing she thinks is that she’ll never see him again, but when it’s time to pick him up, the woman who answers the door isn’t the same mother she dropped him off with, and what’s more is that the woman has no idea who her son is. So begins All Her Fault, a thriller that portrays a desperate woman living through a parent’s worst nightmare. — Sarabeth Pollock

All’s Fair (Hulu)

When Kim Kardashian dazzled critics with her turn as a devious attorney in American Horror Story: Delicate, Ryan Murphy quickly recruited her for another series he was dreaming up. All’s Fair is the story of a powerful Los Angeles law firm run by women. Kardashian plays the firm’s divorce lawyer who works with her team to get the best deal for her clients.

I'm excited to see this powerhouse cast that includes Kardashian, Glenn Close and Sarah Paulson. — Sarabeth Pollock

Halloween Baking Championship season 11 (Food Network)

Spooky season is on the way and there’s nothing like Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship to get you in the mood to bake up some terrifyingly tasty treats. The series, now in its 11th season, features bakers who let their imaginations run wild as they create some of the most extraordinary confectionary creations ever seen.

Each season has featured special guest stars and fun themes so we’re eager to see what this season has to offer. (If they make a life-size M3GAN doll made of cake we’re out of here! — Sarabeth Pollock

Halloween Baking Championship season 11 premieres this fall on Food Network.

Holiday Touchdown: A Bill’s Love Story (Hallmark Channel)

Hallmark Channel partnered with the NFL in 2024, leading to their crossover film, Holiday Touchdown: A Chief’s Love Story, which premiered during Countdown to Christmas 2024. This season, Hallmark is heading to Buffalo to bring their brand of holiday magic to the Bills Mafia. Holland Roden, Matthew Daddario and Tony Danza star in what’s sure to be a holiday classic for years to come, especially if you’re a Bills fan. The movie will arrive during the 2025 Countdown to Christmas celebration. — Sarabeth Pollock

Holiday Touchdown: A Bill’s Love Story premieres this fall on Hallmark Channel and streams the next day on Hallmark Plus.

Next Level Baker (Fox)

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is taking baking to new heights with Next Level Baker. After the success of Next Level Chef, a cooking competition that features three teams competing on three different levels of a moving set, it makes sense that Ramsay would expand the franchise and add baking.

With cold weather right around the corner, nothing beats a good baking show to help us prepare for the holidays and we’re excited to see how Ramsay puts his unique stamp on the genre. — Sarabeth Pollock

Next Level Baker premieres this fall on Fox.

Ever since it was announced that Stranger Things would be wrapping up all of its Upside Down horror hijinks with a fifth and final season, fans of the hit Netflix series have waited with bated breath to find out exactly when they'd have to say goodbye to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and the rest of their favorite Hawkins, Indiana residents.

And during tonight's Netflix Tudum 2025 — the global fan event that streamed live on Netflix from Los Angeles' Kia Forum, with teasers, tidbits and more from the platform's biggest films and series — we finally got our answer: Stranger Things season 5 will hit the streamer in three bursts, as announced live by cast members Wolfhard, Schnapp and McLaughlin.

"Volume One" of the final season will drop on Wednesday, November 26 at 8pm Eastern Time; "Volume Two" to follow on Thursday, December 25 at 8pm ET; and "Volume Three" to wrap things up on Wednesday, December 31 at 8pm ET.

That multi-part release schedule follows the precedent set by season 4, which was released in two "volumes" on May 27, 2022, and July 1, 2022, respectively. And while the split-season release model has its critics among Netflix subscribers — who've had to not-so-patiently wait to see how shows like Emily in Paris, Outer Banks and Bridgerton ended after their recent multi-part seasons — I actually don't mind having to wait a few extra weeks to see how Stranger Things caps off its weird and wonderful run.

Stranger Things during a normal season is a densely populated and action-packed watch, so having a little breathing room between episode batches is much welcome. And given that this is the big finale of the horror-sci-fi saga, having an extended farewell gives the final season a fitting sense of occasion and ramps up the anticipation for the high-stakes series finale. Plus, it definitely helps that the wait between episodes isn't too long that viewers will feel like they're waiting around forever to find out what happens to Eleven and Co.

The fifth and final season's premiere episode is titled "The Crawl" and will pick up in the fall of 1987, which is more than a year after the events of season 4, reports Entertainment Weekly. Other episodes will be titled "The Turnbow Trap," "Sorcerer," "Shock Jock," "Escape From Camazotz," "The Bridge," and "The Rightside Up," in case that gives you any clues about the final season.

So mark your calendars for the big Stranger Thing' finale — this fan will be seated, for all three parts.

2025 is going to be the best TV year ever. I know, it's a bold statement at the start of a new year, but it's true. There are so many shows either debuting or returning to our TV screens in 2025 that fans are in for a big treat. The biggest problem won't be what to watch but rather how to watch it all. The WTW team picked the 15 shows we can't wait to see in 2025, but the list just scratches the surface of what's coming.

It's not just new and returning network dramas. We're talking big names, big franchises and huge concepts. It really feels like it's the biggest year for TV because the stars have aligned that way; either things were already in the works for 2025 or production delays (remember the 2024 Writers and Screen Actors Guild strikes that shut down film and TV production for months) led to pushing shows to later premiere dates. Whatever the case, with so many new and returning shows coming up, 2025 is will no doubt be a veritable feast for our TV-viewing sensibilities.

I'll never forget when The Last of Us aired the final episode of its first season in March 2023. HBO quickly announced the apocalyptic series based on the bestselling video game would return for a second season...in 2025. 2025! At the time I thought there was no way it could possibly take that long for the show to return, even with all of the CGI and post-production work that goes into a series of that magnitude. But at long last, 2025 has finally arrived, and The Last of Us season 2 will grace our TV screens at some point this year (the actual release date is not available as of this writing).

Not only is that not a complete list, but we're not even talking about all of the new and returning reality shows and the mid-season returns of favorite new shows like Doctor Odyssey, Elsbeth season 2 and Matlock, nor are we talking about the new seasons of those same shows coming in the fall (pending their renewal, of course).

What this means is that our TVs will be chock full of quality programming all year long. We won't be limited to the traditional TV season from fall to spring, as there are too many shows to be contained to any one season. That said, though we're still awaiting some release dates we're almost certainly guaranteed to have at least one must-watch show on every week of the year!

There's no rest for the TV viewers, as the 2025 TV slate gets rolling right away with some big time premieres and will continue with massive show and massive show all year across streaming and linear TV. We wouldn't have it any other way.

With all of these exciting shows coming to air, some of our What to Watch team members got together to pick the 15 TV shows they are most excited for this year. From genre favorites to star-studded thrillers to a continuation of a show that found new life on streaming. We've listed the shows in order of when they premiere (and if they don't have a release date at this time they're listed alphabetically).

So, no need to drag this out any longer. Here are the TV shows that we are most looking forward to watching in 2025.

Mayfair Witches season 2 (January 5, AMC)

The last time we saw Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario), she’d just given birth to Lasher, giving the powerful and mysterious entity a corporeal body. Now, in Mayfair Witches season 2, Lasher’s plans become known. We’ve been excited for the show to return for a number of reasons; now that the groundwork has been laid, it’s time for the Mayfairs to come together to fight Lasher (Jach Huston), but not everyone believes he should be destroyed given how much power and influence he’s given the family. This complex and visually stunning series has a lot to offer as Anne Rice’s witches really start to come out and play. — Sarabeth Pollock

The Traitors season 3 (January 9, Peacock)

After the must-watch event that Peacock’s The Traitors season 2 proved to be, I can’t wait for Peacock’s The Traitors season 3. The new episodes may be some of the most explosive yet as Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Sandoval is slated to compete, and some of his fellow competitors, like Dorinda Medley and Chrishell Stause, were on Ariana Madix’s side as the infamous Scandoval affair played out. Will they tell Tom their true feelings on the matter face-to-face? Speaking of Dorinda, considering her track record with ruffling a few feathers on The Real Housewives of New York and The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, I’m excited to see how far she makes it in a competition where having alliances is key. — Terrell Smith

Severance season 2 (January 17)

Severance hit TV like a wrecking ball when it premiered in 2022, quickly fascinating viewers (myself included) with its complex story of a group of individuals who decide to split their consciousness between an "innie," who works for the mysterious Lumen company, and an "outie," who goes about their life outside the office, with neither knowing anything about the other. Of course some kind of foul play is at hand, and with the cliffhanger ending we were left with with Severance season 1, the three-year wait has been hard. But it ends early in 2025 thankfully, with Severance season 2 letting fans clock back in on one of the more fascinating shows going right now. — Michael Balderston

Harlem season 3 (January 23, Prime Video)

I’ve been a fan of Harlem since it became a buzzy hit comedy during its first season, and I’m still a fan heading into Harlem season 3. For me, the series helps fill a void left in the wake of Insecure no longer being on the air, and the characters being in their 30s speaks to where I am in life. I appreciate the show for tackling real issues while also making sure to add levity to any given situation. When it comes to the new episodes, I’m wondering what may happen between Camille (Meagan Good) and Ian (Tyler Lepley) now that she’s uncertain of her desires to have a baby, and if Angie (Shoniqua Shandai) will actually be able to sustain her new relationship with Michael (Luke Forbes). — Terrell Smith

Paradise (January 28, Hulu)

Sterling K. Brown is one of my favorite actors, so I’m looking forward to him starring in the new drama series Paradise. Not only is Brown portraying a man desperately trying to prove he didn’t commit the highest form of treason in the land, but Brown is also reunited with This Is Us creator, Dan Fogelman, who developed Paradise. Given the subject matter, I’m not anticipating nearly half as many tearjerking moments as were offered up in This Is Us, but I am holding out hope that Paradise captures just as much of my attention in this new-aged whodunnit drama. — Terrell Smith

Suits: LA (February 23, NBC)

To know me is to know I love a witty drama. It’s the reason I’m enamored with shows like The Lincoln Lawyer and Matlock, and it’s why I’m excited to see Suits: L.A. I was a latecomer to the whole Suits craze when it originally aired, but like many streamers, I binged the series after it became available on Netflix and instantly became a fan. Between the verbal quips and plot twists, I’m fascinated with the original Suits characters, so I’m hoping some of that magic will be reflected in the new series when it airs. The fact that Gabriel Macht, aka Harvey Spector, is in Suits: LA is quite promising. — Terrell Smith

Daredevil: Born Again (March 4, Disney Plus)

It’s been over six years since Daredevil aired on Netflix, and I’ve been impatiently waiting for the moment when Charlie Cox would again portray Matthew Murdock in his own series, which thankfully comes in 2025 with Daredevil: Born Again (he only made guest appearances in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law). Back when the Marvel hero was on Netflix, I applauded the show as being the best live-action Marvel series with the best fight choreography across TV and movies. With the MCU officially regaining full control of the Daredevil character and Cox returning to the titular role, I’m hopeful Daredevil: Born Again will hold my attention from beginning to end. Will it pack a bigger punch than WandaVision, Loki and Agatha All Along? — Terrell Smith

The Studio (March 26, Apple TV Plus)

As someone who is fascinated by the history and machinations of Hollywood, The Studio likely had me with little effort. But throw in the fact that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (producers of This Is the End, Sausage Party and The Boys) are behind it and the trailer teased a stellar cast and cameos from Hollywood legends, including Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron and Anthony Mackie presumably as themselves, I'm incredibly excited for the satirical dive into the studio system this show promises. — Michael Balderston

And Just Like That season 3 (TBD, Max)

And Just Like That season 2 ended with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) moving into a new home and making a pact with longtime beau Aidan (John Corbett) that they will pick up their romance after his son grows up and leaves the house. It was a big ask, but Carrie seemed ready to commit to the idea. With And Just Like That season 3, we’re ready to see where Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristen Davis) go next. They’ve all been through a lot, growing and learning about themselves in this next phase of their lives, and they have a growing circle of new friends who are in the same boat. We’re eager to see where the story takes us in the new season. — Sarabeth Pollock

Black Dagger Brotherhood (TBD, Passionflix)

Passionflix has been growing their platform of romance novel adaptations for years with a hefty combination of movies and series from some of the best authors in the industry. Now they’re expanding their repertoire with an adaptation of J.R. Ward’s bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series about big brooding vampires trying to fight evil and find salvation in the form of their one true love. There is romance, there are vampires and there’s danger lurking around every corner. Oh, and there’s a swoon-worthy cast that will bring several books in Ward’s epic series to life. The first season of Black Dagger Brotherhood finished filming in December 2024 and is expected to premiere in 2025. Chad Powers (TBD, Hulu)

Glen Powell is on a hot streak coming off Twisters and Hit Man (two of my favorite movies of 2024). Can he extend that magic touch to TV? He'll try it out using the Ted Lasso playbook — taking a viral online video and turning it into a full fledged series. Chad Powers originated as a prank by Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning pretending to be an aspiring walk-on at a college program. Powell and Michael Waldron (Heels, Loki) have expanded on that for a sports comedy that I'm hoping is a lot of fun. — Michael Balderston

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (TBD, HBO)

I've been enjoying Skeleton Crew, which hasn't dove too much into Jedi or the Skywalkers, as a nice change of pace for the Star Wars franchise. I'm looking forward to something similar coming from the Game of Thrones franchise in 2025 with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. We're getting out of King's Landing and machinations for the Iron Throne between the Targaryens and others for this one, as it focuses on the adventures of a lowly knight and his squire. It's sounds like a breath of fresh air for a franchise we all know so well. — Michael Balderston

The Last of Us season 2 (TBD, HBO)

By the time The Last of Us season 2 arrives it will have been well over two years since the last time we saw Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) on our screens. Joel risked everything to get Ellie to safety under the belief that she held the cure to the mutated Cordyceps fungus that transforms humans into ruthless killers, only to arrive at the facility to learn that the only way to see if the hypothesis was true was to kill her. Joel saved Ellie’s life and now their journey continues in season 2. It didn’t take long for the series, based on a beloved video game franchise, to quickly gain a following of fans who not only lauded the post-apocalyptic world the show created but also the way the show portrayed the humanity of it all and the way love will always find a way. — Sarabeth Pollock

Stranger Things season 5 (TBD, Netflix)

I honestly don't think there is a bigger TV event this year then the final season of Stranger Things. Netflix's sci-fi series has become a global phenomenon, so the anticipation to see how Eleven and the rest of our group of heroes try to defeat the monsters of the Upside Down once and for all is sky high. Bingeing is not a practice that I partake in as much anymore, but I will be watching every episode of Stranger Things season 5 as fast as I can to make sure that nothing is spoiled for me. — Michael Balderston

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 (TBD, AMC)

No one ever thought Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) would ever be able to work together, leading many fans of The Walking Dead to wonder how The Walking Dead: Dead City could ever work. Sending the bitter enemies to a walker-infested New York City led to an epic adventure during their mission to save Maggie’s son. In The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, Maggie and Negan are in very different places. Negan once again has a position of power, but will he revert to his old ways or will he approach things differently? Maggie, on the other hand, will never trust Negan, but now that she understands what’s happening in the city, she can’t turn a blind eye to it. — Sarabeth Pollock

Never Have I Ever

Co-creator Mindy Kaling reportedly drew from her own adolescence experiences for this charming Netflix comedy, which follows Indian-American teen Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she juggles the sudden death of her father and her tumultuous last three years of high school. Over four seasons (Never Have I Ever season 4 wrapped up the series), we see Devi navigate real grief as well as the typical trappings of teendom, including love triangles (are you Team Paxton or Team Ben?), family dynamics (especially her relationship with her tough-love mother Nalini, played by Poorna Jagannathan) and school issues.

Stranger Things

Normal adolescence can be scary stuff, but especially for the youngsters of Hawkins, Ind., who, along with homeroom have to deal with a hostile alternate dimension known as the Upside Down. Though they take place in the 1980s and are populated with monstrous creatures like The Mind Flyer and The Demogorgon, the plights of the Stranger Things kids — including Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) and the psychokinetic Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) —are surprisingly normal, full of teenage crushes, after-school jobs and run-ins with bullies. Catch up before Stranger Things season 5, the show's final season, arrives on the streamer.

Outer Banks

Outer Banks is slightly more action-packed than your usual teenage adventures: the mystery drama follows a group of five friends — John B. (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and JJ (Rudy Pankow) — as they hunt for lost treasure along the coast of North Carolina. It's like The Goonies meets Gossip Girl: there's still romantic drama and friend fights and parent problems, sure, but also pirate legends, ancient ruins and clues to uncover.  

Ginny & Georgia

This one's good for both teen and parent: Ginny & Georgia documents the Miller family, including spirited 30-year-old single mom Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey), her moody 15-year-old daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and her 9-year-old son Austin (Diesel La Torraca), as they adjust to their new home of Wellsbury, Mass. Younger viewers will enjoy the hijinks of Ginny and her new pals, including theater kid Max (Sara Waisglass) and her hunky twin brother Marcus (Felix Mallard), while adult fans can dig into the mysteries surrounding the death of Georgia's late husband.

Heartstopper

Based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Alice Oseman, the British coming-of-age series Heartstopper is refreshing in its sensitive, open-hearted portrayal of young LGBTQ+ people. At its center are the recently outed Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and popular rugby player Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), who embark on a surprising and sweet romance at Truham Grammar School. Their pals Tao (William Gao), Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Isaac (Tobie Donovan) also tag along on their journey of discovery and acceptance.

Sex Education

Yes, the word "Sex" in Sex Education might initially give some parents pause and we admittedly wouldn't recommend this at-times raunchy romp for younger teens and tweens. But, overall, the hilarious and, yes, horny adventures of Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) — the son of a sex therapist (Gillian Anderson) who decides to start his own sex advice clinic to help his fellow students — and the rest of the Moordale Secondary student body are far more wholesome and endearing than the title suggests. Things do get educational, though, as the show regularly delves into topics like gender dysphoria, ableism, STIs and more. 

XO, Kitty

A spinoff series of Netflix's popular To All the Boys I've Loved Before movie trilogy, XO, Kitty centers on the younger sibling of the movie's main character, Lara Jean Covey. This time around, Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) is no longer the precocious kid sis but the romantic young heroine herself. The now-16-year-old travels to South Korea to attend boarding school and reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae (Minyeong Choi). However, things get complicated when Kitty meets Dae's other girlfriend, Yuri (Gia Kim), and realizes that she might just be catching feelings for her, too.

Wednesday

You already know her whole creepy and kooky and mysterious and spooky family, but Wednesday allows you to get to know the Addams daughter better. Played by rising star Jenna Ortega in the comedy-horror series, the titular character is now a teenager and a new student at Nevermore Academy, a private school for monstrous outcasts in Vermont. Along with the usual mischief that young people get up to in high school, Wednesday also possesses psychic abilities that get her involved in a local murder mystery.

Derry Girls

This Northern Irish series was originally broadcasted on Channel 4 but became a global favorite once it joined Netflix's platform in December 2018. And Derry Girls' popularity is for good reason: the shenanigans of the show's namesake friend group (played by Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn) in 90s-era Londonderry are rip-roaringly funny, whether trying to score tickets to a boy-band concert or misguidedly crushing on a handsome young priest. 

Riverdale

Based on the characters of Archie Comics — yes, we're talking the likes of Archie Andrews (K.J. Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) — Riverdale turns the classic comic series into a teen soap that trails the group of high schoolers as they contend with all of the surreal and sinister forces lurking within the small town of Riverdale. Each season descends further and further into absurdity, but that doesn't make it any less addictive of a Netflix binge. 

Nominees for the 23rd annual Golden Trailer Awards have been announced and this year Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Ted Lasso and Stranger Things lead with the most mentions. 

The Golden Trailer Awards are a celebration of — you guessed it — movie and TV show trailers. Taking a movie or show and creating a trailer that represents the movie without giving too much away (hopefully, anyway — Last Christmas, we're looking at you!) is an art form and the awards are presided over by a jury of A-list industry professionals including producers, directors, actors, writers and marketing creatives. 

Nomination categories resemble those of traditional awards ceremonies, so you'll see Best Action, Comedy, Documentary, Horror and more. Given Hollywood's ever changing landscape, you also see some new categories like Best Streaming Trailers, TrailerBytes and Best Social Media Campaigns, since social media and trailers go hand-in-hand these days. The Golden Trailer Awards will take place on Thursday, June 29, at The Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. 

Stranger Things has become a cultural phenomenon, so much so that it has its own holiday, Stranger Things Day. The sci-fi series that pays homage to a lot of 1980s pop culture is one of the most popular Netflix shows; in fact, its most recent season, Stranger Things season 4, became the most watched English-language show in Netflix’s history.

Since premiering in 2016, we’ve all watched this group of scrappy teens, led by the super-powered Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), fight to protect their small town of Hawkins, Ind., from the dangers that arrive from the mysterious world of the Upsidedown. 

Stranger Things has provided scares, laughs and its share of heartbreaking and other memorable moments, and fans can celebrate them all with Stranger Things Day 2022.

Here is everything that you need to know about Stranger Things Day.

When is Stranger Things Day? 

Stranger Things Day takes place on Sunday, November 6. There is going to be a full day’s worth of special events for fans to take part in, starting at midnight PT. These include some new photos from the show, an online watch party, a special merch hour and, to cap it all off, something that Netflix is just teasing as a “super secret” event. Why is November 6 Stranger Things Day?

If you’re wondering why a whole day celebrating Stranger Things is coming more than four months since season 4 of the series debuted, well there is a very specific reason that dates all the way back to the first episode of the series.

In the world of Stranger Things, on November 6, 1983, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) goes missing. This of course is the event that got the whole series rolling. Which makes it fitting that fans the world over can share in their enjoyment of the series on November 6.

Stranger Things Day 2022 special screenings

One of the biggest parts of Stranger Things Day 2022 is going to be special screenings of Stranger Things season 4 part 2, which consists of the last two epic episodes of the season. Netflix is going to be hosting both in-person screenings at select movie theaters and an online screening.

Per Netflix, this is the first time that Stranger Things is being shown on the big screen. Though, the in-person screenings are limited to fans in these select North American cities:

When Stranger Things debuted on Netflix in 2016 it immediately became a sensation for the streaming service. With its endless 80s references, fantastic cast and combination of scares and laughs, it’s not a surprise that Stranger Things has gained a fervent fandom.

When the first batch of episodes of Stranger Things season 4 debuted on May 27, the new season quickly became the most-watched English-language TV show on Netflix ever. Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 release date

With the release of the final two episodes, all nine episodes of Stranger Things season 2 are now available to stream on Netflix.

According to a letter from the creators the Duffer brothers, shared by Netflix, the reason for splitting Stranger Things season 4 into two halves is because this is the biggest season yet. Featuring nine episodes, the creators said the new season is "nearly twice the length of any previous season."

If you're wondering why volume 2 seems light, don't worry, per Netflix, the last two episodes are nearly a combined four hours.

How to watch Stranger Things season 4

Stranger Things is a Netflix original show, which of course means that it is playing exclusively on the streaming service. So anyone who wants to watch the latest episodes (or start from the beginning of the series) is going to need a Netflix subscription to do so.

What’s the plot of Stranger Things?

Stranger Things takes place in the 1980s in the small Indiana town of Hawkins. When a young boy disappears, his friends attempt to find him and meet Eleven, a mysterious young girl with supernatural abilities. As they continue their search, they discover a shady government agency experimenting with other dimensions (called the Upside Down) that threaten the whole town. It’s up to them, along with the local sheriff, Hopper, to stop them.

As the show has progressed, the supernatural phenomena impacting Hawkins have only increased, and Eleven and the rest of the gang are continually forced to confront it, on top of dealing with the normal things teenagers go through.

Things left off in season three with the group foiling a secret Russian mission to weaponize the dimensional portal. In order to close it, Hopper, who had become a surrogate father to Eleven, sacrifices himself to close it. However, in a final scene taking place in a Russian prison, we see Russian guards talking about an American prisoner before feeding another prison to a monster that came from the other the Upside Down.

"It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. As a Netflix Original, Stranger Things plays exclusively on the streaming service, meaning that a subscription is necessary. The show has already featured Matthew Modine, Sean Astin, Cary Elwes and Paul Reiser, and season 4 has Robert Englund, Freddy Kreuger from the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. It was recently revealed the Englund will be playing a character named Victor Creel, who has been in a psychiatric hospital since the 1950s after his family was violently murdered, with him claiming it was by demons.

Will there be a Stranger Things season five?

The Duffer brothers, who are the creative minds behind Stranger Things along with producer and director Shawn Levy, said early on in the show’s run that they envisioned the story going either four or five seasons. Well, we’re just about to get the fourth season, is this the end of Stranger Things or will the show return?

Movie website Collider interviewed Levy for his new film Free Guy and asked that very question. Levy revealed that "the end is in sight" and that he and the Duffer brothers have a plan for the endgame. 

The end plan is official, as Stranger Things was renewed for season 5, which will serve as the show's final outing. Though the possibility of spinoffs was alluded to, there's been nothing to confirm that we'll see any just yet.

If you’re figuring out plans to watch the final two episodes of Stranger Things season 4 that release on Friday, July 1, you may want to take this into consideration: Netflix is hosting a virtual watch party of the final two episodes that also features a live Q&A session with members of the cast, including David Harbour and this season’s villain, Jamie Campbell Bower.

The Q&A is going to feature Jim Hopper himself, David Harbour, as well as Brett Gelman, who plays Murray Bauman, Joseph Quinn, who plays Eddie Munson and Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays the orderly revealed in the first half of the season to be the mysterious 001. The announcement for the event says that the stars will answers questions including what songs they would play to fight Vecna (a la Max’s pick of Kate Bush’s "Running Up that Hill"), what their most intense scenes were and some of their theories on the Upside Down.

Once the virtual screenings start, fans will be able to see real-time reactions from the cast as well as connect over live chat messenger about what is going on.

If you’re among the millions of people that have already finished Stranger Things season 4 vol 1 (the show is on a record-breaking pace for Netflix) and are itching for more, well then feast your eyes on the official trailer for Stranger Things season 4 vol 2. It may be only 30 seconds long, but it may be all we have to go on until the last two episodes drop on Netflix on July 1.

Stranger Things season 4 is set about six months after the events of Stranger Things season 3. The Byers and Eleven are now living in California, while the rest of the Hawkins crew are dealing with a new challenge: high school. Things start to go awry when a cheerleader is found brutally murdered and the leader of the school’s Hellfire Club, which Mike, Dustin and Lucas are a part of, is the primary suspect. However, the group soon realizes that the real threat is a new figure from the upside down, Vecna, that has connections to Hawkins’ past even before Eleven. Meanwhile, Joyce and Murray learn that Hopper is alive in Russia and go about rescuing him, while Eleven must try and regain her powers with the help of someone from her past, a surprisingly still alive Dr. Brenner.

The trailer for Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 features audio of Vecna telling Eleven that she has freed him and that even she can’t stop what is coming. Watch the trailer directly below and get ready to pour over every detail as we wait until July 1.

If we have one complaint about the trailer (outside of its brevity and the likelihood that it’ll be the only bit of new footage we get until July 1) is where is Kate Bush? The 80s pop star was one of the defining elements of vol 1 as her song "Running Up that Hill" was featured as part of a key sequence in episode 4 that many have called one of the best in Stranger Things history. Oh well, maybe the last two episodes will bring it back or have another surprising needle drop for us.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 only features two episodes, but there is still a lot of ground to cover. The last two episodes are said to be four hours, with episode 9 alone reportedly being about two and a half hours.

Take a seat Bridgerton season 2, there’s a new record holder when it comes to the most-watched show on Netflix in its debut weekend — Stranger Things season 4. The return of the popular sci-fi/horror series not only beat Bridgerton season 2’s record that was just set in March 2022, it absolutely crushed it.

As shared in Netflix’s top 10 most-watched TV shows and movies list for May 23-May 29, Stranger Things season 4, which was just released on May 27, was watched for a staggering total of 286.79 million hours. To put that in perspective, Bridgerton season 2’s previous record was 193.02 million hours.

Now, a couple of things should be noted for context. First, Stranger Things has a fanbase that has been around since 2016 and that has been waiting for new episodes since 2019; Bridgerton, meanwhile, while with a similarly devouted fanbase, debuted in the final days of 2021, meaning its March 2022 release was just about 15 months since the last episode. 

The length of Stranger Things season 4’s episodes also likely played into this. All seven of the episodes released as part of Stranger Things season 4 volume 1 were over an hour, with many over 70 minutes; in total, the seven episodes ran for 9 hours 7 minutes. Bridgerton season 2’s eight episodes, comparatively, lasted 8 hours 27 minutes. Even so, beating Bridgerton by more than 90 million hours is no small feat.

It’ll be interesting to see now if Stranger Things season 4 can challenge Bridgerton as the most-watched show on Netflix in its first month. In addition, Stranger Things season 4 has two more episodes that are going to premiere on July 1 that conclude the season. How will that compare?

The love for Stranger Things wasn’t just contained to watching the latest episodes — all three previous seasons of the show were part of the top five TV shows watched May 23-29 on Netflix; Lincoln Lawyer season 1 rounded out the top five in second place (64.82 million hours watched). Bridgerton season 2 still is popular, continuing to hold a spot in the top 10 for the 10th week in a row. Here is the full rankings of Netflix’s most-watched English-language TV shows:

Meanwhile, here are the Top 10 lists for Netflix’s most watched English-language movies, non-English TV shows and non-English movies. Biggest point of interest, many viewers spend the week catching up with 1986's Top Gun, likely in advance of the release of Top Gun: Maverick.

David Harbour plays the damaged adult, Jim Hopper, the kids have relied on as Stranger Things has become stranger and more dangerous over the three seasons, central to the bewildering plot, so it’s no surprise to learn he had more than vested interest in learning how the sci-fi thriller resolved at the end of season five.

David revealed that he ‘harassed’ creators Matt and Ross Duffer for the ultimate knowledge of how Stranger Things wraps up.

He told Variety: “I think it varies from person to person, from character to character, and I’m such a harassment specialist that I think I’ve gotten it out of them. It’s been back and forth about like, ‘What happens to Hopper? Is he a character that’s able to survive Hawkins or does he die?'”

David added: “I know what happens and it’s quite moving, and quite beautiful.”

Don't expect any spoilers, however – he said he would take this one to his grave.

Even though there are still two seasons of the Netflix hit yet to stream, David explained why he felt he needed to know the conclusion to play his character, who started season one as a drunk, miserable chief of police who was forced out of his malaise when bad things started occurring in Hawkins. 

He finished season three in a Russian prison camp, although the other key characters believe he died in the explosion in the Upside Down.

“I think that I needed to know as we were shooting early on, because I needed to know where [Hopper] ends up and for what reason he ends up there,” he said. “I think there is going to be somewhat of a morality – or at least responsible storytelling – to what the Duffers are doing.

“There’s a reason in season 2 why Bob dies. He’s too innocent. You can’t go up to that monster and say, like, ‘Get away from me, get away!’ You just can’t be that person in this world. That person dies. So I think there’s a responsibility in terms of how Hopper ends up that I’m eager for people to see, and I had to know that going in so I knew where to arc it.”

As miserable as he appeared in the Arctic prison, David says he strangely enjoyed the experience of filming in Lithuania, which stood in for Russia.

“To have him be so far away with a bunch of Lithuanians who didn’t speak English was kind of fun! It was like doing a big old prison escape movie on my own.”

We’re just a week away from Stranger Things season 4 premiering (Friday, May 27), but Netflix is easing the wait by sharing the first eight minutes of the new season in a special sneak peek. Though with how the scene plays out, many fans may find the wait even more unbearable as they will want answers ASAP. 

SPOILER ALERT if you do not want to know anything about the new season until it is available to watch in full.

In the sneak peek, everything starts out innocently enough. We see a young kid riding his bike delivering newspapers. As one lands on a front porch, we see the door open and a man (only his feet are shown) picks it up. He does the crossword, finishing in the amount of time he gave himself and then getting ready for work. It is here we see that this is no other than Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine). This clip is a flashback, with the date reading September 8, 1979.

Things then head to the Hawkins National Laboratories. There, we see a number of children with special abilities playing. Dr. Brenner takes one to work with individually. His power is his ability to see things that aren’t right in front of him. As Dr. Brenner tests him, the young boy sees something traumatic. Very shortly, chaos breaks out at the labs in a terrifying sequence. We soon learn the cause of the problem — Eleven. The clip ends with Dr. Brenner asking her, "What have you done?"

It’s a heck of a way to kick off what is being called the biggest season of Stranger Things yet. And that’s not just talking about what is going to happen to our favorite residents of Hawkins, Ind. Stranger Things season 4 is the longest edition of the sci-fi series to date.

We already knew that Stranger Things season 4 was being broken up into two volumes, with Volume 1 premiering on May 27 and volume 2 following up on July 1. Netflix has also shared the episode breakdown for the two volumes. Volume 1 features seven episodes, while volume 2 has the final two of the season. If that seems off balanced, don’t worry, the last two episodes make up for it in length.

The entire nine episode season 4 clocks in at about 13 hours, though the two episodes in volume 2 make up almost 4 hours of that. In fact, the last three episodes of the season are basically their own movies: episode 7 is an hour and 38 minutes, episode 8 is an hour and 25 minutes and episode 2 is two and a half hours.

As far as what’s in store with Stranger Things season 4, here is the official synopsis for the season:

“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. Unfortunately, some Stranger Things spoilers have apparently been found in, of all places, a Monopoly board game.

All of the main cast is back, including Mille Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Winoa Ryder and David Harbour.

As fans eagerly await the premiere of Stranger Things season 4 part 1 on Netflix on May 27, apparently spoilers for the upcoming season have already been revealed through an unlikely source — the board game Monopoly.

According to The Hollywood Reporter and a Reddit thread, a promotional version of Monopoly for Stranger Things season 4 includes cards that spoil a major plot point for the season. In fact, they’ve apparently been out for a while, as the Reddit post is from April. Images have leaked online, though we won’t be sharing them here.

In the Reddit post, the commenter says that the game is officially licensed and was acquired at a "nationally recognized retailer… fair and square," adding, "nobody stole it; nobody leaked a sample." The Hollywood Reporter says that those details are unconfirmed.

What the Hollywood trade publication was able to confirm was that Netflix and Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers are unsurprisingly not happy about the situation. Apparently the Duffer Brothers were not consulted about the game and are having "a total meltdown" about it.

On the Netflix side, Hollywood Reporter was told that while Netflix does have approval for tie-in promotional materials like this, there's a large volume of such materials and the Monopoly board game likely accidentally got pushed through with the spoilers.

We have gotten some other big news for Stranger Things season 4 that is not a spoiler, coming directly from the Duffer Brothers themselves. Speaking with Collider, the Duffer Brothers shared that episode 7 and episode 9 of Stranger Things season 4 are going to be comparable to a movie in terms of length.

Stranger Things season 4 part 1 premieres on Netflix May 27. Part 2 is coming to streamer on July 1.

Just a little more than a month away from the premiere of Stranger Things season 4 on Netflix, a brand new trailer gives fans the best look at one of the most highly-anticipated 2022 TV shows' return. After watching the trailer, the first reaction can only be: is it May 27 yet?

This latest Stranger Things season 4 trailer is an epic preview of what certainly looks to be the biggest season. We get an ominous voice warning our heroes, Max (Sadie Sink) revealing that nothings has been the same since the events of season 3, Hopper's (David Harbour) trials in the Russian prison camp, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) revealing that she doesn't have her powers anymore and a government official telling her that she is the only hope to save Hawkins from the war that is coming. Not to mention a great needle drop of Journey's "Separate Ways." Check out the trailer right here:

How can you not be pumped for what lies in store after that?

In case you need a brief recap, the end of Stranger Things season 3 saw our favorite group of Hawkins teens win the Battle of Starcourt, where the Russians had opened up a new portal to the Upside Down, though it appeared that both Hopper and Max's brother Billy had died (Dacre Montgomery). Afterwards, the Byers and Eleven decide to leave Hawkins. Then in the closing moments of the season it was teased that Hopper was still alive but had been transported to a Russian prison; it was then quickly confirmed that yes, Hopper is alive.

We get an even better sense of the scale and what the dangers are for the Stranger Things crew with this latest trailer, including a brand new monster from the Upside Down, this time with an actual face and apparently the ability to talk. The trailer also features what has been the tagline for Stranger Things season 4, "Every ending has a beginning," as it has already been announced that Stranger Things season 5 will be the concluding chapter of this story.

Fans are already theorizing what some of the biggest moments from the trailer could mean, with the biggest one being that Billy is somehow alive/resurrected.

We'll have to wait until May 27 when Stranger Things season 4 releases on Netflix to start getting answers, though that will just be one part of the season. Part 2 of Stranger Things season 4 is then going to drop on July 1. Until then you can rewatch all episode of Stranger Things on Netflix, or just rewatch the trailer a few thousand times.

Get ready for the return of Stranger Things, as the premiere date for the latest season of the hit Netflix original series is coming this summer with what the creators are calling the biggest season yet. It’s so big that Stranger Things season 4 will be broken up into two halves.

The season 4 release date wasn’t the only major news regarding Stranger Things, however. It was also shared that the show has been renewed for season 5, which will actually serve as the closing chapter of Stranger Things’ story. Plus, there was a hint of potential spinoff series.

First things first though. In a letter from Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, the brothers reveal that Stranger Things season 4 volume one will debut on the streaming service on May 27 and volume two five weeks later on July 1. For U.S. viewers, that potentially sets up perfectly for bingeing, as those are the Memorial Day and Fourth of July holiday weekends, respectively.

The decision to break Stranger Things season 4 into two parts, according to the Duffer brothers, is that the season's nine episodes have a runtime that is “nearly twice the length of any previous season.”

There’s certainly a lot to tell. When we last left the town of Hawkins (SPOILER ALERT), our unlikely band of heroes were separated. Eleven and the Byers have moved away, while we know that Hopper was mysteriously wound up in a Soviet prison camp. Plus, the characters are dealing with a brand new threat — high school. 

The synopsis from Netflix reads, “In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

The other news that Stranger Things season 5 will be the final season of the show may be a gut punch to fans who love it, but it was always the general plan according to the Duffer brothers. In their letter, they say their original vision of the story would last four or five seasons.

However, the end of Stranger Things may not mean the end of the universe it created. The letter teases “There are still more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.” While nothing has been confirmed, it certainly sounds like some spinoffs could be coming down the line.

“It is almost here,” a voice (sounds like Noah Schnapp’s Will) says in a brand new teaser trailer for Stranger Things season four. He is of course speaking of some kind of evil force that will be unleashed in the latest season of one of Netflix’s marquee series, but it also fits nicely with the fact that this latest teaser confirms Stranger Things season four will arrive in 2022. No specific date was given.

For anyone who hoped that we may be getting new episodes of Stranger Things in 2021, a 2022 release date may not seem particularly close, but considering it’s been more than two years since the third season of Stranger Things debuted in 2019, it’s nice to know that our long wait is inching closer to an end.

In addition to announcing the rollout of season four in 2022, the new Stranger Things teaser offers fresh footage from the new season. It’s just a few quick shots, but we see Eleven in the grasp of what we can guess are federal agents and Hopper with a flamethrower, just to name a few. We’ve already gotten a few teasers for Stranger Things season four. The first officially revealed that David Harbour’s Hopper was indeed not dead as many speculated after the stinger at the end of season three, but is a prisoner somewhere in Russia. Another took us through the labs run by Matthew Modine’s Dr. Brenner, with him doing a voiceover saying “Today I have something very special planned for you” as the teaser ends on a door marked 11.

It's been more than a year since we were first teased with a teaser for Stranger Things Season 4, titled "From Russia With Love" in a callback to the old James Bond flick. (But with Hopper very much in the Gulag.

But the global pandemic can even take its toll on the Upside Down, and we've not had new Stranger Things in, well, forever.

Now we have a new teaser for Stranger Things 4.

We start with a clock striking 3. In the morning? In the afternoon? Who knows, but there are children awake and doing things that children in captivity do. Like racing little cars along a rainbow. Playing chess and Magic 8 Ball. And a generic version of the Plinko game, with a chip dropping down into the No. 7 spot.

Then we see ol' Martin Brenner walk into the room and greet the children, who reply in unison. "Good morning, Papa. "Today, I have something very special planned for you," Brenner says. 

The camera zooms in on another room, with the number 11 on the door. "Eleven, are you listening?" And then we see her eyes.

And that's it. No dates just yet. Just more waiting.
