The Good Doctor’s series finale brought suspense, drama and closure to viewers, as Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) deals with two friends’ fate hanging in the balance.

Producing a well-rounded series finale is a difficult artform, as evidenced by how many TV shows fail to accomplish the feat. Here is how the medical drama bid farewell with The Good Doctor season 7 episode 10, tenderly titled "Goodbye,"

Shaun's desperation 

The episode begins with Glassman (Richard Schiff) explaining to Shaun and Lea (Paige Spara) he learned of his terminal diagnosis a week ago. When Lea asks about his longevity, Glassman responds he was given three to six months to live. The news hits Shaun like a ton of bricks, and he immediately begins trying to save Glassman. 

At the hospital, Shaun convenes all of the doctors to brainstorm treatment for an alleged mystery patient. Lim (Christina Chang) quickly figures out Shaun's talking about Glassman and withdraws her support. 

Instead, Lim assigns Jordan (Bria Henderson) and Kalu (Chuku Modu) to work on Claire (Antonia Thomas), leaving newlyweds Park (Will Yun Lee) and Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) with Dom (Wavyy Jonez) and Charlie (Kayla Cromer) as Shaun's team. Park wants everyone to throw out any idea they have until Shaun accepts reality.

Claire's truth 

The cause of Claire's collapse is quickly identified. Claire has a bacterial infection called "Acinetobacter," an antibiotic-resistant infection. Debridement fails to get the infection under control and Claire goes into septic shock. Claire knows she must be put into a medically induced coma. Lim and Kalu share emotional "goodbyes" with their friend and colleague.

Before going under, Claire tells Kalu she loves him and apologizes for the time they lost. Kalu tells Claire he loves her too, and it's clear they are each other's endgame. Claire also wants to say goodbye to Shaun. In his obsession with saving Glassman, Shaun misses his chance.

After a thrombectomy fails to clear the clot in Claire's arm, Kalu doubles down on amputating Claire's arm. Shaun points out it would take away her life as a surgeon. Kalu counters that Claire's greatest joy is not in being a surgeon, it's helping people. With a heavy heart, Lim agrees, and Claire's arm is amputated.

Can Glassman be saved?

Lim, Morgan and Lea are among those to share moving farewell scenes with Glassman. Meanwhile, Shaun remains in denial. Park tries to reach Shaun when Charlie hits on a potential treatment. Maximal resection to debulk Glassman's tumor to a one centimeter margin. 

The surgery, plus some experimental ultrasound therapy, could give Glassman up to a year. Glassman is grateful to Shaun and the team. However, he does not want to live his remaining time in recovery. Glassman wants six good months with Shaun, Lea and baby Steve. 

Shaun's obsession with saving Glassman causes him to lose focus on helping Claire. It reaches the point where Glassman regrets ever telling Shaun his prognosis. Lea implores Glassman to be patient with him before tenderly confronting her husband. Not long after, Shaun calls Glassman and Lea into the conference room for an emotional conversation, during which Shaun accepts Glassman's condition.

Saving Claire

When Lim tells Shaun he is being a bad friend, Shaun has a breakthrough. He can save Claire by using viruses to attack her infection (bacteriophage). Collecting the right bacteria proves a ginormous (and filthy) task. Shaun stops by Claire's hospital room to apologize for not coming to her bedside earlier when she asked to see him. He tearfully holds her hand and says goodbye. 

Charlie wakes Shaun up in Claire's room, saying they found the right bacteriophage. And just like that, they are off to get compassionate use approval from the FDA. However, they are denied. Undeterred, Shaun decides to take matters into his own hands and go forward with the bacteriophage over the FDA's bureaucracy. 

Shaun understands he would no longer be a doctor if he disregards the FDA to give Claire her treatment. Glassman doesn't think Shaun should make that sacrifice, so he scrubs in to treat Claire with the bacteriophage, thus saving Claire's life and Shaun's career.

Into the Future 

A flash forward reveals Shaun kept his word and visited Maddie's carousel with Glassman. The two share "I love you(s)," and Shaun later rides alone, signaling Glassman's passing. Eventually, an older Steve and pregnant Lea join him for a spin, and finally, Steve, Lea and their daughter. 

Despite her current position and a Chief of Surgery offer in Chicago with Clay, Lim goes to Ukraine to work with Surgeons for a Better World. On the family front, Park and Morgan play with a toddler-aged Eden, whom they have formally adopted.

Dom is now a physician at Hubank Community Health, where he is shown tending to a bloody wound with no problems. Jordan sings in the church choir with a beaming Perez singing alongside her. Charlie leads residents through the hospital; the student has become the teacher. 

During a TED talk, Shaun shares he and a very alive Claire successfully run the Dr. Aaron Glassman Foundation for Neurodiversity in Medicine. Claire, Kalu and their daughter are in the audience, along with Jerome (Giacomo Baessato) and his new partner. Park, Morgan, Lim, Dom and Charlie are also in attendance.

Not in attendance is Hannah. Who else could have gone for an update on Hannah's progress? Did she stay sober? Does she have a family now, too? With so much to be grateful for The Good Doctor suturing up, it seems nitpicky to even bring it up, but I couldn’t help myself.

Nevertheless, the final scenes of The Good Doctor are poignant. In the lobby after Shaun's TED talk, he and his dear friends embrace one another. Shaun then walks away with his family in tow.

The Good Doctor season 7 episode 9, the first part of the medical drama's series finale, spares no drama, as two bombshells rock the hospital in addition to the return of Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) as a patient. Here is what happened in The Good Doctor season 7 episode 9, "Unconditional."

Dr. Claire Brown returns

The episode opens with Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) getting a visit from Claire. She updates the couple on all her progress in Guatemala and makes a fuss over baby Steve, saying she's back to address a lump in her breast, though the biopsy from Guatemala came back negative.

However, it doesn't take long for Shaun to find out the biopsy they took earlier that day is positive: Claire has breast cancer. 

Lim (Christina Chang), Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) and Kalu (Chuku Modu) catch up with Claire, whose multiple surgeries finally yield clean margins. After Kalu shares the good news, Claire reveals her true purpose for returning is to see Kalu.

The spark between Claire and Kalu is still alive and burning bright. They share some nice moments, and Kalu updates his dating status, revealing he and Jordan (Bria Henderson) are not together. 

Apparently, he and Jordan decided just to be friends, adding that Jordan has been texting Perez every day since Asher's murder. Kalu is single and ready to mingle with Claire. Kalu shows off his bedside manner to an impressed Claire, and they share many tender moments sure to please fans of the coupling.

Shaun learns about Hannah

Lea discovers Hannah (Ruby Kelly) in Glassman's (Richard Schiff) loft and tells Shaun about it. Shaun confronts Glassman with what he stands to lose, but Glassman shuts him down fast. Thankfully, Shaun's wise wife explains that Glassman may be trying to do for Hannah what he could not do for his daughter. Claire also helps with Shaun's Hannah/Glassman dilemma. 

Claire shares her experience with her mom to help Shaun understand that Glassman may be trying to give Hannah unconditional love. People with an addiction live in a world of conditions people set trying to get them clean. Claire is haunted, wondering if telling her mom that she loved her unconditionally would have saved her. She encourages Shaun to help the situation because he is great at helping people.

Meanwhile, Glassman and Hannah have a rough time when they discuss her getting treatment. Desperate, Glassman reaches out to Hannah's father, whose empathy for his daughter appears near non-existent. The meeting is a disaster despite Glassman sharing his experiences with his daughter, Maddie.

Later on, a newly employed Hannah opts out of her nighttime dose of oxy, leading a suspicious Glassman to find a stash in her jeans. Hannah and Glassman have an ugly argument. She threatens to leave, leading Glassman to put a pill on the table.

Shaun finds an emotional Glassman outside of his apartment, who he consoles with an embrace. Glassman decides to go for a walk, so Shaun goes into Glassman's place and finds Hannah. Shaun shares how Glassman's love changed his life, explaining that Glassman saw potential in him, and now Hannah, to be more than their condition. Why can’t she?

Shaun's words prove impactful. When Glassman returns home, Hannah says she knows she needs rehab and asks if Glassman will be there for her when she returns. He assures her that as long as he is here, she can count on him.

Lim, Jordan and Dom's patient 

Jordan (Bria Henderson), Dom (Wavyy Jonez) and Lim take care of a lightning strike victim who fell off a roof. The patient reflects on his life, with Lim connecting with him and his story. After a seizure, the doctors learn the lightning man has a brain tumor that needs to go pronto. 

Lim decides to do a risky awake surgery to remove the mass. Lim does the wild (and successful) procedure as the patient plays the guitar. The entire experience seems to awaken Dr. Lim's badass side, and she appears ready to pursue it.

(Finally) time for a wedding

Park (Will Yun Lee) and Morgan wake up in (almost-wedded) bliss, leading Park to take time off to plan their wedding. Park returns home with news of the wedding he planned for 2 am because they will have the location. 

Morgan and Park exchange vows at the site of their first date, with Lim initiating. Park vows to be the man, father and best friend Morgan and Eden need. In her vows, Morgan acknowledges she will never be as sweet and romantic as Park. They exchange rings and seal their marriage with a kiss. It took until season 7, but Park and Morgan are finally married! 

The bombshells

After the ceremony, Dom performs a song with Jordan. The romantic atmosphere gets to everyone, including a radiant Claire, who shares a kiss with Kalu and earns a piercing look from Jordan. 

Taking a break from the reception, Glassman commends Shaun on his personal growth, and as joyous as the moments were before, they strike a shockingly somber note. In a bombshell reveal, Glassman tells Shaun his cancer has returned, and his case is terminal, which sends Shaun reeling. 

In another shocker, Claire and Kalu are discussing going to his place. Just as Claire tells Kalu she shares his desire for their relationship to be more than a one-night stand, she begins feeling sick. Kalu also notices she is warm. Claire loses consciousness as her ride-share pulls up. Kalu whisks her into his arms and gets in the car, telling the driver to take St. Bonaventure as "fast as you can drive." The dramatic cliffhanger concludes the episode. What is next?

The Good Doctor season 7 episode 8, "The Overview Effect," certainly lives up to its name. Patients’ complex cases once again mirror the personal complications of the medical staff. This installment sees everyone assess their lives and the decisions surrounding them.

Compromise is another theme woven into episode 8. Can everyone find a middle ground that maximizes both sides’ happiness? Here’s what happened in The Good Doctor season 7 episode 8.

Tayo and his third arm

Shaun (Freddie Highmore), Kalu (Chuku Modu) and Charlie’s (Kayla Cromer)patient is Tayo, a little boy with trouble breathing, a history of asthma and, as Charlie discovers - a third arm. Tayo’s parents explain it is his "aburo" in Yoruba, or “little brother” in English, and it’s all that remains of his ibeji/twin. When the boy begins to crash, Shaun and the team rush him back for emergency surgery. 

There is an obstruction outside Tayo’s trachea from an enlarged blood vessel. Treatment requires limb removal surgery. When the parents begin to argue over which limb should be removed, Shaun steps in, saying a blood flow test will decide. Tayo looks on somberly.

Charlie later inquires as to Tayo’s feelings. He is upset by his parents arguing. Charlie comforts him by saying his parents are to blame for fighting, not Tayo. When talking with Tayo’s parents, Shaun suggests they not argue in front of Tayo, disclosing how it impacts their son.

During a brainstorming session, Kalu and Charlie’s suggestions help Shaun envision a way to transplant the blood flow from the small limb to the larger one, leaving Tayo with two aesthetically similar arms. There is a risk of losing the larger limb completely. 

Tayo’s parents ask him what he wants to do. While he is sad to lose his brother, Tayo knows he will understand. Shaun gets approval to operate. Afterward, Tayo is able to take his mom’s hand with his rebooted arm—mission accomplished.

Park's patient and the overview effect

Park (Will Yun Lee), Jordan (Bria Henderson) and Dom’s (Wavyy Jonez) patient, Mason, is a botanist who recently returned from outer space. Mason’s wife, Ana, explains that he has been sick ever since returning. When Dom is examining Mason, the botanist cries out. His arm appears broken. During surgery, he crashes yet regains normal sinus rhythm.

Zero gravity causes heart weakness. Mason’s wife claims he is "off mentally" because he wants to start a family. During an operation on his heart, Mason collapses again, and Park announces Mason’s heart is not the problem. It is time for a brain scan. That reveals he has extra fluid compressing his brain, and he needs a shunt.

For her part, Ana is disappointed to learn from Park that her husband’s condition has not caused his "personality change." In response, Park educates her on the "overview effect," a phenomenon that can bring sudden clarity to astronauts’ perspectives. Ana is not happy to hear this. She wants everything to stay the same and balks at Park’s suggestion of finding a “middle ground.” Is this couple doomed?

Mason’s shunt surgery is successful until it is not. Mason’s speech slurs, and he loses consciousness during an exam. Due to complications from space, Mason needs surgery to relieve the pressure, and Ana approves it.

When Mason wakes up, Ana has reconsidered her stance. She suggests giving up her fellowship in Buenos Aires while remaining uncertain about kids, suggesting they start with a puppy. Mason counteroffers: she keeps her fellowship, he takes a sabbatical and they get the puppy. Ana happily accepts.

Romance for Morgan and Park?

Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) wants to schedule her and Park’s wedding at the courthouse to bolster their adoption of baby Eden, whereas Park wants a romantic affair. To inject romance into their engagement, Morgan proposes to Park after singing "Up Where We Belong." The gesture fails. 

Realizing her error, Morgan apologizes to Park, understanding his reaction. So, Morgan presents a ring with an epically romantic backstory and asks Park to marry her again (minus kneeling), and a moved Park accepts.

Shockingly, Park notices the inscription on the ring and that it holds no such significance. Morgan bought it at a pawn shop and made up the story. Busted! Park promptly turns down an unapologetic Morgan’s proposal. Later on, Park returns home, glimpsing Morgan with Eden. And just like that, Park goes inside, drops to his knee, and proposes. Morgan appears to accept by taking Park’s hand.

Glassman plays Hannah's hero

Chiari Zero patient, Hannah (Ruby Kelley), is discharged from the hospital, and Glassman wants to help with her opioid addiction. His tough love approach with his daughter haunts him. Hannah is in denial, so Glassman suggests lunch. They bond over her and his daughter’s commonalities. 

In the heartbreaking scene, Glassman explains that he lost his daughter and she believed her addiction was "under control." His voice breaks as he offers Hannah his contact info. Ignoring another of Lim’s warnings about Hannah, Glassman goes when Hannah calls about her car being stolen. Glassman offers her his couch, Hannah accepts, and things seem great.

Cut to Lim apologizing for lecturing Glassman. Lim then asks if he knows where Hannah is now. Glassman lies he is unaware of Hannah’s whereabouts. When Glassman gets home, he finds Hannah overdosed. Narcan saves her. When she awakes, Glassman suggests supplying Hannah with "safe" oxycodone he schedules while contemplating next steps.

Shaun Worries About Steve

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) believes that baby Steve is on the autism spectrum. Hence, Tayo’s situation resonates with Shaun amid his and Lea’s feelings around baby Steve. Shaun flashes back to his parents fighting over his care. Lea overwhelms Shaun with her volume during their argument.

Lea later goes to Glassman, who supports the study for Steve. He warns Lea of operating from fear, so she agrees to the study. While they are waiting at the appointment, Shaun remembers his parents fighting and his little brother, Steve, making them ice cream. 

Back in the present, Shaun suggests ice cream. Lea clarifies if he means now or after the appointment. Shaun says now, little Steve smiles, and the little family leaves with all the answers they need for now. They have each other.

The Good Doctor season 7 is (finally) back with episode 7, "Faith," though there is not a whole lot of faith to spare as things get underway. In fact, the episode deals with a lot of tough questions and even trickier solutions.

Here is what happened in The Good Doctor season 7 episode 7. 

Crisis of faith

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Jordan's patient is Naomi (Zarrin Darnell-Martin), a mom needing a kidney transplant. Enter "Emmanuel" (Guillermo Diaz), who says he is a carpenter with one name, adopted on his father's side from Nazareth (the Nazareth) and is a universal donor. 

Jordan immediately identifies a diagnosis: the man thinks he is Jesus, which Jordan sees as a huge problem. Dom (Wavyy Jonez), who reveals he was a theology major, explains why Emmanuel's claim is not that "crazy," using an allegory for how he sought answers after losing his mom. But back on the medical side, Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) says Naomi needs the kidney — stat.

Emmanuel is ultimately cleared for surgery, only to collapse. Shaun deduces Emmanuel has a pheochromocytoma on his kidney, dumping hormones, explaining his mental state. After debating it, Jordan, Lim and Shaun agree Emmanuel needs the "pheo" removed first so he can donate with a clear mind. 

Before Emmanuel's surgery, Jordan talks to him as if he is really Jesus. Jordan unleashes her pain, anger and grief over Asher's death under the guise of "God's plan." Their talk is successful. Emmanuel encourages Jordan to keep talking to God even if what she says is unpleasant. 

When Emmanuel wakes up from his first surgery, he no longer thinks he is Jesus. His actual name is Carl, but now he decides against donating his kidney. As his surgeon, Shaun agrees. Carl is preparing to leave the hospital when he sees the worried kidney patient's family.

Carl tells Jordan his brain tricked him into thinking he was significant. In reality, no one cares about him. He asks Jordan about Asher and what kind of man he was. Jordan's eyes light up talking about her friend, and Carl changes his mind. He is ready to donate his kidney.

In surgery, Carl hemorrhages right after Lim (Christina Chang) removes his kidney. In a haunting moment, it's hard not to think of Park saying how he would like to die: go to sleep, cut to black. Is this what is going to happen to Carl? Instead, thanks to Jordan, Carl lives.

With Jordan's heart on the mend, she pulls down her sun visor, seeing a picture of her and Asher. She begins telling Asher about the patient who thought he was Jesus. She is not alone in making progress in grief.

Bucket lists

Also grieving Asher is Jerome (Giacomo Baessato). Kalu (Chuku Modu) reaches out to him, eventually presenting Jerome with Asher's bucket list and an offer to cross off items together. Jerome knows what he wants to cross off most — big spoon and little spoon tattoos that Asher wanted them to get. In the episode's closing moments, Jerome gets a tattoo of an entwined little and big spoon.

Elsewhere, Park's (Will Yun Lee) patient is in the hospital after his parachute landing did not go as expected. The man is also trying to cross items off his bucket list with his daughter, which they chronicle via social media. He was told he had 10 months to live but has survived for two months longer.

In more good news, the patient does not have a fractured femur. Picking between two surgeries, he and his daughter opt for a quicker recovery. Once on the table, Park discovers there may be a way to rid the patient of his tumor. There is a risk, though: it could leave the patient as a quadriplegic. 

The dad is convinced he will not be able to "touch the sky" like he promised his daughter when she was little. After talking to Jerome, who wishes he could have foreseen his last day with Asher, the father/daughter duo agree to the riskier surgery. In the closing montage, the father (assisted by Park, Dom and Kalu) and his daughter make it to the top of Mount Umunhum. They all touch the sky.

Things get fragile for Glassman

As Glassman (Richard Schiff) worries about pending imaging results, he treated a patient (Ruby Kelly) he suspects might have a condition despite manifesting as a drug seeker. After running tests, Glassman suggests Chiari Zero. 

Lim (Christina Chang) is unconvinced, suspecting Glassman's late daughter is hindering his objectivity. It turns out that Glassman is correct. Lim warns him that the patient has Chiari Zero and is an addict, both of which need addressing. 

Glassman is waiting for the young woman when she wakes up. He successfully offers distraction over more morphine before receiving an ominous call from imaging. He asks if they are certain. Convinced, Glassman requests a copy and hangs up. Ever the diligent doctor, he returns to sit and watch TV with his patient. A concerned-looking Lim watches them from outside the room.

Nanny drama

Lea (Paige Spara) shares with Morgan that she has found baby Steve's dream nanny. After finalizing things with Shaun, Lea learns Morgan hired the nanny as well. Let the mom drama begin! Park suggests peace talks, which break down until Shaun suggests a hospital daycare. 

By the episode's end, the nanny has settled in with each couple's baby. Lea is happy with Steve’s adjustment. Shaun takes it another way. Is Steve showing early signs of autism?

Now in its sixth season, The Rookie continues to be a staple on primetime TV. Viewers can't get enough of watching John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and his band of police officers solving some of the most unique cases in Los Angeles. While fans have gotten used to seeing new episodes of the drama on Tuesdays, they sadly won't be able to watch a new episode of The Rookie season 6 on April 23. 

As a matter of fact, there won't be new episodes of Will Trent season 2 or The Good Doctor season 7 airing this week either. Instead, ABC is opting to show reruns of each series in their usual respective timeslots. 

From what we can gather, the interruption in the rollout of new episodes of The Rookie doesn't appear to be due to special programming on TV. With that being said, it's worth pointing out that there are fewer episodes of The Rookie to air this season due to the writers' and actors' strikes last summer. As a result, The Rookie and many network TV shows have been taking more routine breaks in releasing new episodes to stretch the seasons and help ensure they wrap in the usual end-of-season timeframe between late April and May. 

So when does The Rookie return with a new episode? One doesn't air until Tuesday, April 30. That also serves as the return date for Will Trent and The Good Doctor. Here is a brief synopsis of the upcoming episode of The Rookie  titled "Crushed": 

"When two teenagers go missing, it is up to the entire team to find the girls and uncover the truth about their disappearance. Meanwhile, Lopez and Harper are on a different kind of investigation – the search for the perfect nanny."

With The Rookie airing a rerun, now would be a great time to catch up with anything you've missed this season over on Hulu. 

However, if you're all caught up on the season, other network TV is all-new tonight. If you're still in the mood for crime dramas, CBS' slate of FBI shows, including FBI season 6 and FBI: Most Wanted season 5, are all airing tonight with new episodes. If you're in need of a laugh, NBC is debuting new episodes of Lopez vs Lopez season 2.  

The Good Doctor season 7 did not air a new episode last week, April 16, so what about this Tuesday, April 23? Unfortunately for fans of the medical drama, The Good Doctor is not on call once again, with no new episode airing on ABC, though a rerun will be shown in The Good Doctor's usual 10 pm ET/PT time slot. 

In fact, it's an entire night of reruns on ABC, as the network's other Tuesday night primetime shows, Will Trent season 2 and The Rookie season 6, are also not airing new episodes for the second straight week. This extended break for The Good Doctor and its fellow Tuesday night programs has been most likely worked in to ensure that the shows continue to air new episodes through May, the traditional end of the TV season.

The good news is that the wait for a new episode of The Good Doctor is almost over, as the show returns on Tuesday, April 30, at its usual time. Read the synopsis for The Good Doctor season 7 episode 7, "Faith," right here:

"Shaun and Jordan's patient is in dire need of a kidney transplant. When they find the perfect donor, they also discover that he believes he is Jesus which could compromise his ability to give consent to the surgery."

As a result of the writers' and actors' strikes in the summer and fall of 2023, The Good Doctor and other network dramas are airing shortened seasons. In the case of The Good Doctor, there are only going to be 10 episodes in season 7. To date, six have aired. That means there are only four episodes left in what is the final season of The Good Doctor.

If there's a silver lining to all of this, there's a good chance there isn't going to be any more weeks off for The Good Doctor this season. ABC has already shared that after the April 30 episode, there is going to be another new episode on May 7, which would mark episode 8 of the planned 10. While a finale date has not been officially announced, if the remaining two episodes aired on May 14 and May 21, that would line up with when network TV shows typically wrap up their fall/spring shows.

In the meantime, if you need to catch up with any episodes of The Good Doctor season 7 (or want to revisit any of the show’s previous seasons), they are streaming on-demand on Hulu in the US.

Will Trent continues to wow fans in its second season, with Ramón Rodríguez portraying the slightly offbeat detective solving some of the toughest crimes. While TV watchers have gotten used to watching new episodes of Will Trent season 2 on Tuesdays, will they be able to watch a new episode tonight on April 16? Sadly, no. 

Not only that, but The Rookie season 6 and The Good Doctor season 7 also join Will Trent in not airing new episodes tonight. Instead, ABC is opting to show reruns of the dramas in their usual respective timeslots. 

While special programming doesn't appear to be to blame this go-around for why Will Trent isn't airing a new episode, it's worth pointing out that there are fewer episodes to air this season due to the writers' and actors' strikes last summer. As a result, many shows like the ones in ABC's Tuesday primetime lineup have been taking more routine breaks in releasing new episodes to stretch the seasons and help ensure they wrap in the usual end-of-fall TV timeframe between late April and May. 

So when does Will Trent return with a new episode? One doesn't air until Tuesday, April 30. That also serves as the return date for The Rookie and The Good Doctor. Here is a brief synopsis of the upcoming Will Trent episode titled "Have You Never Been to a Wedding?": 

"Will accompanies Faith to a wedding alongside her son Jeremy, which becomes far from celebratory when a body and a group of gunmen are found in the venue’s basement. Meanwhile, Angie and Ormewood grow wary of Crystal’s behavior at work."

With all that being said, now would be a great time to catch up with anything you’ve missed this season on Will Trent over on Hulu. 

However, if you’re all caught up on the season, other network TV is all-new tonight. If you're still in the mood for crime dramas, CBS' slate of FBI shows, including FBI season 6 and FBI: Most Wanted season 5, are all airing tonight with new episodes. If you're in need of a laugh, NBC is debuting new episodes of Lopez vs Lopez season 2.  

Everyone is pushed to their limits in The Good Doctor season 7 episode 6, "M.C.E." In the wake of Asher's death, the hospital staff's grief is met with an onslaught of patients. The carnage is the result of a man driving his car through a festival. 

Twenty-five plus patients flood the hospital, including the driver/mass murderer. Complicating the already precarious situation, the hospital has eight surgeons away at a conference in Cleveland. Everyone is challenged in their most vulnerable spot. 

Here is how they did.

Lim's bad day at the office 

Eileen (Bess Armstrong), tries to share a critical secret with Lim (Christina Chang) about her father, but Lim does not want to hear it. Her day is about to challenge that stance after a day of few victories where Lim delivers more bad news than good.

Lim struggles in the operating room when she notices a patient looks like Asher (Noah Galvin). Before she knows it, Lim loses him, making her feel like she failed to save Asher. Overwhelmed, a dazed Lim lashes out at an aggravated accident patient. 

That patient later apologizes and explains his earlier frustration. His wife was home alone all day, and she has MS. She needs him to lift her. Lim is immediately empathetic and inquires further as she treats him.

Later, Lim is once again visited by her mom, who has lovingly made cookies to soothe the hospital. An exhausted Lim asks about her father's secret, finally ready to learn the truth. Eileen shares he had clinical depression, and while he did go on work trips, in reality, many of them were hospital stays.

While Eileen acknowledges how angry her husband would be about her sharing this, she explains why she felt it necessary to share. It's the reason she has been so worried about Lim. With her "work" done, Eileen shares she is leaving town.

Shaun and Charlie: the rematch 

Charlie (Kayla Cromer) brings Shaun (Freddie Highmore) to examine a guy marked as a "black tag" (dead) whose pupils are fixed but not dilated. Shaun quickly diagnoses the man is alive. Later, Charlie notices an abnormality with the patient. She brings it up to Glassman (Richard Schiff), who sends her to a dismissive Dr. Paxton. Out of options, Charlie turns to Shaun. 

Between the blur of losing Asher and all the patients' urgent needs, Shaun gets rattled and short-circuits. Charlie gets through to him and suggests he break down each issue, step-by-step. It works, and Shaun quickly rattles off a list of solutions before taking off with Charlie to save their back-from-the-dead patient. 

After Charlie plugs the patient's bleeding with her finger, matters escalate. Shaun must perform emergency surgery in the ER. Charlie asks to help and due to his circumstantial desperation, Shaun agrees... if she does everything he says. An eager Charlie agrees.

As evidenced by the big blur around them, Charlie and Shaun (finally) find the groove that has eluded them to this point. Is it a turning point? Or a one-time event? As the day ends, Charlie walks by Glassman, updating him on her patient and saying she is withdrawing her HR complaint against Shaun (for now.) A truce?

Dom shines bright

Dom (Wavyy Jonez) faces his toughest challenge yet with the vehicular attack victims. Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) assigns Dom a suspected panic attack patient whose nose begins bleeding after Dom suggests some mindfulness exercises to help him.

The nosebleed turns severe, though, and despite momentarily slowing down, the patient begins to vomit blood. Dom regains his composure despite the triggering sight, diagnosing a "posterior epistaxis" (an arterial bleed in the back of his nose). Dom rushes outside for help and finds no one. He quickly springs into action on his own, and, seeing what he needs on the med cart, begins treatment. 

A stunned Morgan arrives to see the panic attack patient surrounded by blood and Dom holding the urinary catheter he used to save his life. Morgan later finds Dom reading the guidelines for treating the bleeding, sharing he should have used a "rhino rocket." She points out that he saved the man’s life with "MacGyver medicine" and that he should not quit.

Jordan finds compassion 

Jordan (Bria Henderson) gives a moving speech at Asher's service and expresses her anger at Asher's murderers. Her understandable fury extends to the driver who injured and killed the festival goers.

She is later confronted by the killer's mother, who pleads with her for understanding, explaining all the family had done to help him. The mom acknowledges anger and love for her son. 

Kalu (Chuku Modu) comments on Jordan's anger. Jordan responds, "If those monsters hurt like we’re hurting, maybe something will change." Jordan’s stance is challenged when she hears the man crying in pain in his room. 

Jordan administers enough pain medicine to get driver through the night pain-free. She vows to his mother she will keep him pain-free. The episode ends with Jordan apologizing for making her eulogy about anger, adding Asher would not want to be the center of attention at his own funeral.

With Jordan's help, Jerome (Giacomo Baessato) visits the break room to give the staff items from Asher's locker. To Park (Will Yun Lee), a funny cup Asher made for him, to Shaun a brochure, which leads to Asher's loss fully hitting Shaun. 

New episodes of The Good Doctor air Tuesdays on ABC and are available to stream the next day on Hulu.

Marriage and tragedy are the throughline in The Good Doctor season 7 episode 5, "Who at Peace," until a last-minute shocker propels The Good Doctor's final season into an unexpectedly dark direction we could not see coming.

The most light-hearted scenes of episode 5 revolve around Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea's (Paige Spara) sleep training for baby Steve, but even that has its sad moments. (I am curious how they can only hear baby Steve’s crying on the monitor. Their place's walls must be very thick.)

Okay, enough suspense. Brace yourself because this is what happened on The Good Doctor season 7 episode 5. 

Park and Asher's patient 

Asher (Noah Galvin) and Park's (Will Yun Lee) first patient is an older man (Matt McCoy) who has fallen in the shower. Park quickly diagnoses a fractured and dislocated hip. Non-medically speaking, Asher believes the young woman playfully teasing the man is his daughter, only to be corrected by her saying she is his fiancé. Awkward looks follow, as Asher corrects himself.

Strangely, Asher will not let the topic of the older patient's relationship go, probing to learn more. Asher finds out the man is a widower and is currently converting to Judaism. The warm discussion takes a terrifying turn when the woman, Ronit (Carmel Amit), begins to feel sick before collapsing. Asher has to call for a crash cart.

After testing her, Park diagnosis Ronit with Stage 3 ovarian cancer that has spread "beyond the ovaries and pelvis." Seeing how Ronit and her fiancé comfort each other, Asher feels guilty for his suspicions. Tragically, Ronit's condition reaches a devastating conclusion. Her cancer has spread, giving her just months to live.

In one of the most moving scenes of the episode, Asher shares he can help finish the conversion of Ronit's fiancé, giving Ronit a Jewish wedding at the hospital.

Asher finds peace

Jerome (Giacomo Baessato) and Asher exchange intense conversations around Ronit and her relationship, which touches a nerve with Jerome. At first, Asher's constant dissing of marriage seems entirely related to his feelings about Ronit's May-December romance. There is more to it, though.

Asher confides to Jordan (Bria Henderson) that he found what he believes is a ring box in Jerome's possessions, and Jerome is planning to propose. Jordan is confused by Asher's reaction, thinking that is what Asher has wanted. Asher explains it is, but the rituals and ceremonial aspects surrounding marriage have him conflicted. 

Jordan points out that unlike Asher's earlier life, he has choices. In planning Ronit's wedding, Asher learns from the Rabbi (David Attar) how he can be Jewish and openly gay. It is a game-changer, as he triumphantly identifies himself as Jewish and gay, even standing up to a pair of antisemites who confront him and the Rabbi.

Shaun's patient

Meanwhile, Shaun's patient has an inflamed gallbladder. During her surgery, however, it's learned she will need to have a liver transplant if an underlying cause is not treated. A gastric sleeve is recommended. As Charlie (Kayla Cromer) explains the potential complications, the mom and daughter grow concerned and change their minds. 

Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) and Shaun explain that surgical complications are rare. Charlie's personal experiences growing up with ASD and her parents getting her an in-school aid help convince the mother/daughter duo to do the surgery. Following her poignant and reflective advice, Charlie receives an elusive compliment from Shaun.

But when forced to work with Charlie again, Shaun struggles to make Lim's (Christina Chang) suggested "compliment sandwiches" to handle correcting Charlie, saying he is "running out of bread." Lea suggests he ignore most of Charlie's mistakes because they only annoy Shaun but are harmless to patient care. 

In the OR, Shaun and the team encounter an emergency that Shaun swiftly blames on Charlie. Charlie is highly compelled to explain why it's not her fault. In response, Shaun demands Charlie leave the OR. Shaun is able to correct the complication, and the surgery is successfully completed. Shaun tells Glassman (Richard Schiff) he cannot work with Charlie, only to learn she has launched a complaint against him.

Eileen and Glassman's romance heats up 

Lim's mom, Eileen (Bess Armstrong), informs her daughter she is sleeping with Glassman; awkwardness abounds. Lim is further stunned to learn Eileen is going salsa dancing with Glassman. Lim contends her mom is "dull," but Glassman disagrees. He gives a quick seminar on everything Eileen, and Lim appears moved.

Later, Lim tells her mom she always thought she was subservient to her father. Lim gets another speedy tutorial, this time on her parents, learning her mom was not submissive, but they had a partnership. The revelation leads Lim to admit she and Clay broke up over her reluctance to marry. Following the breakthrough moment, the mother and daughter embrace.

Shocking turn of events

As Asher walks to his engagement dinner with Jerome, the two antisemites emerge from the shadows. Struck with a blunt object, Asher suffers a massive head injury. He collapses to the ground and is soon surrounded by blood. His eyes are open blankly. 

After an episode of finding so much peace, Asher has been murdered. It is a devastating twist for The Good Doctor that fades to black with a message scrolled on the screen:

"If you or anyone you know has experienced antisemitism, racism, anti-LGBTQ+ related incidents or hate crimes, or if you want to learn more about what you can do to stop hate, please visit splcenter.org."

New episodes of the medical drama air on Tuesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC and are available to stream the next day on Hulu.

In The Good Doctor season 7 episode 4, Shaun (Freddie Highmore) needs a date night. Hence, the title of the episode is “Date Night.” And worry not, because The Good Doctor delivers on the promising title.  

All of the medical drama's couples struggle to make space for their emotional and physical intimacy needs. Fans also get to watch the beginning stirrings of blossoming love. Someone hit the "new couples alert" button because it is happening, and I, for one, am ready for it. 

Keep reading because The Good Doctor is healing hearts.

Love is not lost

Park (Will Yun Lee) and Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) wake up together, noting their two-month intimacy drought. Ready to jumpstart things, Morgan initiates some "afternoon delight" in her office with Park before Lim (Christina Chang) interrupts. With their first attempt defeated, they make plans for a closet rendezvous.

Sadly for the pair, their romantic closet date takes one disastrous turn after another. All is not lost, though. Morgan and Park semi-argue, igniting their chemistry and proving the heat between them is far from extinguished. Mission accomplished.

At home, Shaun kisses a sleeping Lea (Paige Spara) on the cheek, and… she rolls over. Who can blame her? Shaun leaves her a sweet note. After reading it, Lea surprises Shaun in his office, sharing that she misses him too. Shaun suggests a karaoke night, and while Lea is hesitant to leave baby Steve, she agrees to the date.

Jordan and Park's patient 

When it comes to working within interns, Shaun wants Dom (Wavyy Jonez) on his team, so Park gets Charlie (Kayla Cromer). Jordan (Bria Henderson) and Park's patient of the week is Nathan (Brandon Scott), who goes through a rapid litany of diagnoses before Jordan explains he is in crisis from his sickle cell disease.

Due to Nathan's stroke-like symptoms, they do an MRI revealing benign tumors near Nathan's brain stem called vestibular schwannomas. They are to blame for Nathan's imbalance and hearing loss. Removing the tumors runs the risk of permanent hearing loss. If Nathan loses his hearing, it will impact his ability to sing, which is his calling. Thankfully, Charlie researches and finds a solution: a bilateral endoscopic-assisted keyhole approach.

Nathan is still unwilling when Kalu (Chuku Modu) gives a poignant speech about embracing the unknown. Somewhat persuaded, Nathan asks Jordan for her advice. Jordan shares she believes God brought Nathan to the hospital to be saved; have the surgery. Nathan agrees, and the procedure is a total success with Nathan's hearing fully intact.

Shaun's patient 

Shaun's patient Cam (Matt Angel) has two issues: a rebar in his shoulder and early-onset Alzheimer's. Cam's wife, Gilly (Erinn Hayes), is understandably distraught, revealing she is pregnant and reckoning with the quiet devastation of losing her husband while he is still alive. A potential treatment arises thanks to Dom and Asher's (Noah Galvin) brilliant brainstorming.

It initially appears to have worked until Cam lapses again. Shaun and Asher try to help a crestfallen Gilly come to grips regarding her husband's long-term care. Shaun asks how far along Gilly is in her pregnancy? Gilly immediately knows he is asking if she can terminate the pregnancy. Gilly is stunned into silence as Shaun tells her it is her choice. 

Fast forward, and Gilly explains she previously had breast cancer and Cam moved mountains to care for her. Gilly knows she cannot take care of Cam and their baby. With a heavy heart, she tells Shaun she is going to end her pregnancy.

On his date with Lea, Shaun realizes Cam does not have Alzheimer's. He has a pinched nerve, blocking blood flow and causing Alzheimer's-like symptoms. Shaun elatedly goes to tell Cam's wife there is a treatment. Cam's surgery is successful, leaving Cam and Gilly to enjoy their future family together.

New couple alert(s)

Kalu believes Jordan has a romantic type, and his astute observation resonates with Jordan. Charlie begins to zeroe in on what is really going on between them — they like each other (I knew it! Heart-eyes emoji time!). Later, Kalu brings dinner to Jordan while she is babysitting Steve. The sparks between them are hot enough to ignite the Murphys' apartment. They end the episode by chatting up a storm while donating blood, proving it's not the place, it's the people.

In related new couple news, could Glassman (Richard Schiff) and Lim's mom become an item? Let's back up a bit. Lim's mom (Bess Armstrong), is in town because she worries about Lim. It all leads to an emotionally explosive confrontation between mother and daughter. 

In exchange for Lim attending two board meetings, Glassman agrees to take Lim's mom shopping. The duo bonds with the topic of parenthood stirring Glassman to open up, mentioning his late daughter. The ice is broken, and food emerges. Do crepes from a food bus count as a dinner date?

In the end

Asher and Jerome (Giacomo Baessato) were in such a good place in last week's episode. How did one 10-day work trip seemingly undermine all of their progress? A FaceTime call from Jerome puts Asher's worries to rest. Jet lag, not a loss of interest, has caused Jerome's inattentiveness. Jerome's heartfelt speech works, and they readily reconcile.

Meanwhile, Shaun and Lea's date may have been a slight fail, but it relaxed Shaun enough to save Cam. Shaun and Lea have a touching moment in bed, during which she helps him realize that missing more people means having more to love. Shaun ends the episode by saying their lives will never be the same after Steve. They will be better (I'm not crying, you're crying).

The Good Doctor airs on Tuesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC and streams on-demand on Hulu the next day. 

The Good Doctor season 7 episode 3, "Critical Support," got off to a light-hearted start, but it turned out that Lea’s (Paige Spara) opening thoughts on Steve being destined for stardom were where the laid-back energy ended. You could have called this episode "Critical Condition." Let's get into it. 

The episode touches on how Sean (Freddie Highmore) views his experience as an aspiring doctor on the Autism Spectrum and how it is now shaping his treatment of Charlie (Kayla Cromer). By the end, Sean reaches a defining moment regarding his mentorship of Charlie.

Many of The Good Doctor's characters seem to have confronted a crossroads in their future. Do they arrive at the destination they should? It's time to find out. 

Patients of the week

What starts as an ear wax build-up and infection diagnosis for a young frat brother takes a surprising turn. After seeing a mass on an X-ray, an endoscopy soon follows. When Kalu (Chuku Modu) and Asher (Noah Galvin) go in, the mass has disappeared. The patient later develops neurological symptoms. During surgery to remove his gallbladder, Charlie incidentally uncovers the cause of the frat brother's ailment, a metal wire. One giant magnet later, the patient is cured.

Meanwhile, Park (Will Yun Lee) handles a patient whose arm is stuck inside a meat grinder. If it sounds gruesome, that is because it is. Dom (Wavyy Jonez) proves invaluable to the team as he helps get the grinder off the patient. Despite seeming to address his hemophobia successfully, Dom's issues rise again. Park gives him a chance to drop out of the meat grinder situation, but Dom refuses, thanks to his athletic spirit of perseverance. (Bless him.) 

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) suggests that Park's patient's hand can be saved by "hooking it up" to his ankle's blood supply, with the goal of ultimately reattaching it. (Whoa.) By the end of all this, Dom is still standing despite witnessing some intense stuff, and he shares a hearty hug with Park, making for a beautiful moment.

Morgan goes to the mothership

Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) tells Lea she wants Lea and Sean to be baby Eden’s legal guardians. There's a twist, though, and it is a pretty awful one. Morgan wants Sean and Lea to be Eden's guardians even if she is the only one who dies and Park is still alive. Wait, what?

Lea is understandably stunned by Morgan's choice. Morgan attempts to quell the severity of her proposal by mentioning she will re-evaluate her stance later. 

Thankfully, Morgan encounters Dom, who talks sense to her. In describing Park's mentorship, Dom helps crystalize her relationship with Park and his talent as a teacher and dad. What more could Morgan possibly want in a father/guardian for Eden?

Toward the end of the episode, Morgan admits to Park she lied when telling him she wanted him to be Eden's guardian if Morgan died. Park is clearly taken aback. They kiss, but the conversation feels far from over. How can they be Eden's parents when Morgan thinks only one of them is in charge of the big decisions? It does not seem fair.

Stubborn Sean and chatty Charlie

Sean continues giving Charlie the cold shoulder until his frustration boils over, ordering Charlie out of his patient's room. Charlie later confronts Sean about how he treats her. In response, he refuses to change even though Charlie's curiosity leads her to discover the metal wire in their patient's gallbladder as the source of his illness.

Charlie compliments and thanks Sean for letting her feel the gallbladder. What starts as a potentially feel-good moment between the pair quickly turns ugly. Sean coldly says Charlie should be a pathologist — not a surgeon. Charlie insists she wants to be a surgeon, which Sean vehemently disagrees with, adding she is nothing like him. 

The scene is a seismically brutal and devastating moment for Charlie. On a personal aside, I have been where Charlie's at in terms of unintentionally agitating someone with my mere existence, and it is one of the loneliest, hurtful feelings in the world. Ugh, and when she is trying not to cry in the car! I have been there, and hopefully, she can blast some Taylor Swift (perhaps "Cold as You") to get her through this rough spot.

"Mom" and "Dad" give dueling advice 

Lim and Glassman (Richard Schiff) cross swords over their co-presidential role before proving why they strike the perfect balance for the hospital. Early on, Glassman encourages Sean to be more patient with Charlie, while Lim advises Sean be direct with her, pointing out his expectations for her. While each offers valuable advice, it blows up in Charlie's face.

Glassman and Lim confront Sean after encountering a crestfallen Charlie in the elevator post the "Sean-tastrophe." To hear Sean tell it, no one made it easier for him, although Lim argues that's not true. Conversely, Sean indicates he improved through a baptism of fire. 

Sean insists to Lim and Glassman that Charlie should not be a surgeon, refusing to budge on the overall topic of Charlie. At an impasse, Lim and Glassman decide to blow off steam on Glassman's newly ordered pool table. Who can blame them?

On a positive note, Asher ultimately goes to a party for Jerome's niece, which turns out wonderfully. Asher is at home with Jerome (Giacomo Baessato), allowing The Good Doctor's fans to relax after so much tension in the episode.

After airing a rerun on ABC on Tuesday, March 12, will The Rookie season 6 debut a new episode on March 19? No, unfortunately, another rerun airs tonight during the police drama's usual 9 pm ET/PT time slot on ABC. Eager fans will have to wait a little longer to see what happens next with John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and company. 

Due to the most recent strikes in Hollywood, many shows like The Rookie have fewer than usual episodes this go-around, which likely means networks have to stretch seasons out until the usual end of network fall TV season in April/May. 

With that being said, Will Trent fans should be prepared, as Will Trent season 2 is also taking a break from airing new episodes on March 19. The Rookie season 6 and Will Trent season 2 don't pick back up with new episodes until March 26. 

However, it's not all bad news for avid watchers of ABC's Tuesday night lineup. A new episode of The Good Doctor season 7 is debuting on March 19, at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC. 

So what are supporters of The Rookie and Will Trent left to do in another week of reruns? Well, watch them of course on ABC. However, if you cut the cord to cable or just prefer episodes of the cop dramas that aren't airing in primetime, you can watch any of the past episodes on Hulu. 

Now when The Rookie season 6 continues on March 26, at 9 pm ET/PT, it will do so with the episode titled, "Training Day." Here is a brief synopsis of what you can look forward to: 

"It's Officer Aaron Thorsen's first day back since the assault, and he's tasked with a series of high-stress cases to determine whether he’s ready to work. Elsewhere, the team investigates a homicide case with a potential tie to the pentagram killer."

Right before the new episode of The Rookie, Will Trent debuts the episode titled "It's Easier to Handcuff a Human Being" at 8 pm ET/PT. Here's a brief description of it:

"Will and Faith investigate a small town haunted by the 'Boo Hag,' where a suspect is quickly assumed, but connections to the past unveil unexpected surprises. Meanwhile, Ormewood investigates a TV star’s murder, and Amanda senses impending danger."

Once again, new episodes of The Rookie and Will Trent first air on ABC before becoming available on Hulu.  

It was less than a month ago when TV fans were celebrating the return of ABC's hit dramas The Rookie season 6, The Good Doctor season 7 and Will Trent season 2. After a long hiatus between the previous season and the new one of each series due to the most recent strikes in Hollywood, viewers were excited to see brand-new episodes start airing on February 20. So are new episodes going to air on Tuesday, March 12? Sadly, no. 

The powers that be at ABC have decided not to air new episodes of the Tuesday dramas. Instead, reruns of the most recent season premieres of each series will air on March 12, starting at 8 pm ET/PT with Will Trent season 2, followed by The Rookie season 6 at 9 pm ET/PT and The Good Doctor season 7 at 10 pm ET/PT. 

As of publication, we don't have an official reason for why new episodes won't be airing, but considering all network shows will have abbreviated seasons due to the previously mentioned strikes, our guess is that ABC is trying to stretch the current seasons so they last until the usual April/May timeframe. 

In some good news for The Good Doctor fans, season 7 picks back up with a new episode next week. The episode titled "Critical Support" airs on March 19, at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC. Here is a synopsis of what’s to come: 

"Shaun continues to be tested by Charlie when their newest case prompts her incessant stream of questions -- all in pursuit of an answer. Morgan struggles on who to name as guardian for Baby Eden should anything happen to her."

Fans of Will Trent and The Rookie will have to wait a little longer to find out what happens next in the respective series, as they won’t return with new episodes until March 26. The next new episode of Will Trent is titled "It's Easier to Handcuff a Human Being," and the next new episode of The Rookie is titled "Training Day." There are no descriptions for the episodes at this time.

Lastly, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that this week marks the highly-anticipated arrival of the season premieres for Grey’s Anatomy season 20, Station 19 season 7 and 9-1-1 season 7 all on ABC on Thursday, March 14. 

Don’t forget, if you miss new episodes of any ABC series, you can start streaming them on Hulu the next day. 

Fans of The Good Doctor had to wait a long time for the medical drama to make its return following the Hollywood labor strikes in 2023. The Good Doctor season 7 officially premiered on February 20, but just two episodes into the final season of the series, viewers are going to have to show some patience again as there is no new episode of The Good Doctor on Tuesday, March 5. 

The reason: Super Tuesday. ABC has plans to air special coverage on the primary elections going on across 16 states and territories (Alabama, Alaska, American Samoa, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia) to help determine the Democratic and Republican nominees for the 2024 presidential election in November. The ABC special, Super Tuesday: Your Voice, Your Vote 2024, is airing at 10 pm ET/PT, which is when The Good Doctor typically airs.

This is actually the first of a two-week break for The Good Doctor, as ABC lists the show is slated to return with its next new episode on Tuesday, March 19.

ABC is still airing new episodes of its other Tuesday shows on March 5, with Will Trent season 2 airing at 8 pm ET/PT and The Rookie season 6 at 9 pm ET/PT.

If you've missed the first two episodes of The Good Doctor season 7, this break will give you some time to catch up on the series before the next new episode. The most recent episodes of The Good Doctor are streaming on Hulu for US audiences. You can also read our in-depth recaps for The Good Doctor season 7 episodes (see links above).

ABC is not the only network airing special coverage for Super Tuesday, which is impacting regular primetime programming. CBS has opted not to air new episodes of its FBI franchise as it also has an election special airing at 10 pm ET/PT. NBC is another major network airing special primary coverage, but they are still airing all of their usual Tuesday primetime shows, which includes new episodes of Night Court season 2, Extended Family and The Voice season 25. Fox, meanwhile, has two of its big primetime dramas returning tonight, in The Cleaning Lady season 3 and Alert: Missing Persons Unit season 2.

If you're looking for other Super Tuesday coverage, cable news networks CNN, Fox News and MSNBC will have coverage throughout the night.

Sean (Freddie Highmore) and Park (Will Yun Lee) face tough medical cases that test their interpersonal skills as much as their surgical ones in The Good Doctor season 7 episode 2, "Skin in the Game." But before diving into those storylines, the episode begins with an update on adorable baby Steve.

At three weeks old, Lea (Paige Spara) and Sean's son is not gaining weight at the rate his doctor would like, so he suggests formula. The situation and its potential solution bother Lea. Cue Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann), who visits Lea and bonds over motherhood. 

Morgan helps Lea assuage her "mommy guilt" during their lovely talk by making eloquent points that help Lea accept using baby formula.

New doctors, new cases

Shortly into the episode, we're introduced to the hospital's two new third-year medical students: Dr. Dominick "Dom" Hubank (Wavyy Jonez) and Dr. Charlie Lukaitis (Kayla Cromer). The duo are tremendously good friends, which helps them significantly throughout the installment. Charlie is on the Autism Spectrum and, accordingly, fangirls over Sean. If only the good vibes ended there. 

While Charlie's Autism is a talking point from the outset, Dom's own issue takes a little longer to get revealed. It turns out Dom has hemophobia (issues with seeing blood), fainting upon its emergence. Thankfully, he doesn't strike his head too seriously the first this is revealed, or he would have been a patient in the hospital.

In the workup to his first (bloody) surgery, Dom encounters Charlie, who slaps Dom to stimulate his central nervous system, increasing blood flow to keep him from fainting in the OR. Dom does not have to wait long to learn if Charlie's cringy solution succeeds. 

The good news? It works. Dom then uses Charlie's suggestion of snapping his rubber glove to stimulate it again. Why didn't Charlie try that first instead of slapping him? Either way, problem solved, I hope.

Patience with the patients

One of the episode's new patients is Rich (Ian Tracey), whose coughing spell was so severe he fainted and hit his head. His daughter also reports he has lost weight and increased fatigue. Sean diagnoses his ailment's source as quartz countertops, stating Rich needs a lung transplant. In the aftermath, he must move in with his daughter, Grace (Lucy Loken), who will take over as his primary caretaker.

The catch? Contrary to what Rich believes, his daughter makes her lucrative living as a sex worker. That fact is accidentally revealed by Charlie, whose attempts at humor inadvertently reveal Grace's online work. Rich tries to leverage Grace's concern for him to get her to quit her job. Grace refuses, leading to a stalemate.

Witnessing this father/daughter fight, Sean relates to Rich as a father, pointing out Grace is a good person, which matters most. When Rich wakes up from his procedure, he changes his mind, saying he wants to stay with Grace. Perhaps seeing the relationship repaired proved more satisfying to Sean than the surgery he performed.

The big gamble

Another patient, Sal (Peter Jacobson), recognizes Dom as a successful football player known as "the Dominator." Sadly, for Sal, he has a terminal brain tumor. As a gambler, Sal is convinced he's due for a good break, so when Dom mentions a TCR approach, it piques Sal's interest. While Dom's transparency with Sal does not enthuse Park, it also sparks Park to consider it. Park feverishly attempts the technique in the surgical simulator with discouraging results. 

Considering the high stakes of the procedure, Park tries to leverage Sal's desire to live to make Sal vow to use most of the extra time Park could give him. Sal admits he is a gambling addict, falling somewhat shy of agreeing to repair his relationship with his ex-wife and their children. Park is pleased enough to continue with the risky surgery.

In a heart-pounding sequence, Park successfully completes the surgery to applause from those in the gallery, including Glassman (Richard Schiff). As for Sal, he wakes up from surgery, wasting no time picking up where he left off, to Park's obvious disappointment. Talk is cheap and actions are more expensive. A disappointed Park wishes Sal luck and leaves the room. Questions remain, though. Since Park got the entire tumor, does this mean Sal's time on earth is back to indefinite?

Sean and Charlie

During Rich's surgery, Charlie's stimming technique (touching her earring) compromises the surgical sanitation of the operating room, leading Sean to banish her from the theater. Of course, I wonder if in real life an earring would even be allowed in the operating room due to the sanitation risk?

Later, when Charlie and Sean appear on the cusp of mending their fences, things turn. To Charlie's surprise, Sean doubles down on his hard edge with her. Just because they both deal with autism does not mean their relationship will not face challenges.

As a Swiftie, an episode highlight was Dom playing Taylor Swift's "Bejeweled" to comfort Charlie and them dancing together. Dom and Charlie are excellent additions, naturally fitting into the ensemble. I look forward to seeing their journey from here.

Relationship troubles

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) confronts Glassman (Richard Schiff) about leaving her out of one of the first decisions as part of their co-presidency, but it does not end there. To teach him a lesson, Glassman is greeted by a "Happy 80th Birthday" party in his office and compliments about how good he looks "for his age." After the hilarious scene, it's clear Lim and Glassman's next steps will be better synced. 

In related Glassman updates, Sean and Glassman have yet to mend fences completely. Their relationship remains so icy that Sean refuses an invitation to baby Eden's party because Glassman will be there (I share Lea's confusion). But it cuts both ways,  as Glassman still blames Sean for costing him his career as a surgeon.

Nevertheless, Glassman encourages Sean to attend baby Eden's party. What does this ultimately mean for them? To viewers' (great) relief, as Glassman holds baby Steve, the ice between Sean and Glassman appears to thaw further.

The Good Doctor airs Tuesdays at 10 pm on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu. 

The Good Doctor season 7 is finally here and the premiere wastes no time getting into the heart of its title, "Baby, Baby, Baby." Set two weeks after the events of the The Good Doctor season 6 finale, the show re-introduces viewers to the dynamics between its cast of characters and Shaun's (Freddie Highmore) acclimation into fatherhood.

At first glance, the meaning of the season 7 premiere's title seems aimed at Shaun and Lea's (Paige Spara) transition into parenthood. However, it could also refer to the babies at the episode's heart. More on that in a moment. 

Shaun and Lea's respective adjustments to parenthood certainly get The Good Doctor’s attention, and in more ways than one. Spoilers for The Good Doctor season 7 episode 1 follow below. 

All about baby

Shaun's first case back hits close to home for more than one reason. It involves the heart of a donor baby and two prospective recipients. Being a new father — his and Lea's baby son is nestled healthily at home — brings about new textures for Shaun.

He encounters further emotional resonance as Morgan (Fiona Gubelman) and Park's (Will Yun Lee) 11-week-old daughter Eden's medical case reaches heightened complications. Meanwhile, 12-week-old hospital patient Jack is at the top of the list for a newly available donor heart. Not long into visiting Jack, Shaun discovers an ailment he suggests being cured by maggots (tes, maggots.) Jack's family obliges the bizarre treatment, and Jack is good to go. 

Meanwhile, Morgan ignores Park's input regarding Eden, ordering the Ross procedure without so much of a "what do you think?" for her co-parent. Sadly, the doctors must abort Eden's procedure due to the dire state of the baby girl's ventricles.

Eden's medical complications highlight Morgan's difficulty co-parenting with Park. To his massive credit, Park is one of the most understanding partners on the planet, and he reassures Morgan. But the bond between Jack and Eden's mothers leaves Park feeling somewhat alienated. Meanwhile, Morgan's bond with baby Jack's mother proves vital to both mom's respective journeys.

Eden's heart failure puts her high on the donor list with Jack. It is a difficult decision over who should get the donor heart, made more so when Shaun points out that Jack should be at the top of their list.

Shaun's solution 

Morgan insists she and Park be present during the staff's decision making process. Knowing the stakes at hand, Shaun is uncharacteristically hesitant to make his decision known. After some support from Morgan, Shaun concludes that Jack should get the donor heart, and Eden goes on ECMO.

Though at work, Shaun worries about Steve's schedule, which has accidentally been thrown out of order. Lea suggests Shaun rests at his office when Steve's sleep schedule is thrown off, which helps unlock the answer to Shaun's medical dilemma.

While sleeping, Shaun brainstorms a way to save Jack and Eden with one heart. Jack's healthy valves will be transplanted to Eden while Jack gets the donor's heart. Shaun explains that "a fresh homograft donor means Eden won't need multiple surgeries or blood thinners."

Shaun's solution means more risks for Jack's parents to absorb, although they ultimately agree. Despite some high-anxiety moments and a tense commercial break, Shaun's solution works, Jack and Eden are saved. In a sign of a massive step forward, Morgan thanks Shaun, saying he saved "our daughter" as she takes Park's hand. (I love happy endings in medical dramas!)

Hospital high jinks

The question of the interim president comes into play in the episode. Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) recommends Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) after he recommends her. So, who gets the spot? Ultimately, Dr. Glassman and Dr. Lim are named co-presidents. This situation is going to be fun.

After some tension and a nice visit with Lea, Dr. Jordan Allen (Bria Samoné Henderson) and Dr. Kalu (Chuku Modu) mend fences. You will recall they each had differing approaches to Perez's pain management. Thankfully, the pair came to a truce over a chorizo they both agree is "bussin'," and it is honestly one of the most heart-warming scenes of the premiere.

Baby Drama

Also, in the episode, Lea wants the syncing of Steve’s baby app disconnected from the speakers. The new mom wants more flow to her and Steve's daily routine, while Shaun explains he likes to know what they are doing, so he feels close to them. Both make great points that ultimately resolve themselves amenably.

By the episode's end, Shaun uses the lessons he has learned with his medical case to work toward a more amenable parenting situation with Lea. He agrees to un-sync the speaker and baby app, which Lea tells him she already put on the fire escape. Well, he tried.

Shaun comes home after a tough day and tells Lea that his exhausted wife looks "terrible," which Lea expertly allows to slip off her back. In the final moments, Lea lets her husband know that Steve has been through his full routine, and she is heading to bed.

Dr. Glassman and Shaun

Earlier in the episode, Lea tries her best to break the ice between Glassman and Shaun while in the elevator together. She lets Glassman know how much baby Steve loves the blanket that Glassman gifted him (replete with his name embroidered). It is a tender moment that makes more headway than it first appears.

Toward the premiere's ending, Glassman — still reeling from learning the of his new role — makes his way home, where he sees Shaun in the hallway trying to soothe baby Steve. Dr. Glassman takes baby Steve to his place where Steve settles right down. Steve even gives him a little smile as they settle in for (a maybe quiet) evening.

New episodes of The Good Doctor premiere Tuesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC. Episodes are available to watch on-demand the next day on Hulu.

Fans of The Good Doctor have eagerly been awaiting the premiere of The Good Doctor season 7 since the show last aired in May 2023, but now they have an extra reason to tune in, as this upcoming season of The Good Doctor, premiering on February 20, is going to be the final run of episodes for the medical drama.

ABC announced the news on January 11 with a teaser trailer for what has been dubbed "the farewell season." The trailer shows many highlights from the series' run, its cast of characters and what appears to be the first footage of the new season.

The Good Doctor, created by David Shore, premiered in 2017, telling the story of Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and Savant syndrome, who becomes a member of the medical staff at a prestigious hospital. Over the seven seasons Shaun has earned the respect of his colleagues by solving complicated medical cases, but he's also grown as an individual to the point where he got married and, at the end of The Good Doctor season 6, became a father.

Freddie Highmore stars as Shaun Murphy, but the show is very much an ensemble piece, with fans getting to know and care for the other doctors Shaun works with. Among the regular cast for this final season of The Good Doctor are going to be Richard Schiff as Dr. Glassman, Fiona Gublemann as Dr. Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Park, Christina Chang as Dr. Lim, Paige Spara as Lea, Bria Henderson as Dr. Allen, Noah Galvin as Dr. Wolke and Chuku Modu as Dr. Kalu.

Because of the actors and writers' strikes that took place in Hollywood in 2023, The Good Doctor season 7 was booted from ABC's fall schedule, among other shows. ABC has not confirmed the number of episodes for The Good Doctor season 7, but because of this delay the final seasons could see a reduced number.

However many episodes there are going to be, they will be airing on a different night, as The Good Doctor has been moved from Monday, where it has aired since its first season, to Tuesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC.

The Good Doctor is the second long-running ABC drama to announce that it is ending in 2024, as the Shonda Rhimes TV show Station 19 has also announced it will end with Station 19 season 7.

A number of other shows on other networks are also deciding to wrap things up this year, with CBS's Young Sheldon season 7, S.W.A.T. season 7 and SEAL Team season 7 marking the end of those series.

The fall TV season is here, but many shows that viewers were expecting to return with the start of the new TV year are missing in action, including The Good Doctor season 7. Why is that, what is taking its place and when could the show return?

The Good Doctor is a medical drama that has become a fixture on ABC since its debut in 2017. It stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a brilliant young doctor who has autism and Savant syndrome. The series follows his career and personal life, with a supporting cast that includes Richard Schiff, Hill Harper, Christina Chang, Paige Spara, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee and more.

The last we saw of the series was The Good Doctor season 6 finale, where things were left up in the air on the future of Dr. Glassman (Schiff) and Shaun's relationship; Shaun and Paige learning to become new parents; Danny (Brandon Larracuente) dealing with his drug addiction; Dr. Reznick (Gubelmann) becoming a single mom; and Dr. Lim adjusting to her life following her accident in season 5.

With fans of the show likely eager to find out what happens next to their favorite characters, here is what we can tell you as to why The Good Doctor season 7 is not airing new episodes in fall 2023.

Why isn't The Good Doctor airing new episodes? 

The simple answer to that question is: the strikes that are ongoing in Hollywood.

Starting in May 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike with the goal of securing a new labor deal with TV and movie studios that will deal with many key issues for the future of the industry. Then in July, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), also went on strike as they could not reach a new deal with studios before their previous contract expired.

With both organizations on strike, members of the WGA and SAG are not able to work on projects made by the studios, which includes the studio behind The Good Doctor (some exceptions have been made for independent projects or smaller movie and TV studios).

Because of the timing of the WGA strike in May, new episodes of The Good Doctor season 7 had not been written, so ABC does not have new episodes to air.

What is airing in place of The Good Doctor season 7?

The Good Doctor has traditionally aired on Mondays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC. With no new episodes coming this fall, what will the network air in its place? For at least part of the time, Monday Night Football will take up the time slot.

The first three weeks of the NFL season will feature a Monday Night Football game airing on ABC. A few other games are already confirmed to be simulcasted on ABC later in the season. The Monday Night Football games will go through 10 pm hour, filling the gap left by The Good Doctor.

As far as what may make up ABC's Mondays if there aren't Monday Night Football games, that's TBD. ABC has moved Dancing with the Stars season 32 from the show's traditional air time on Mondays to Tuesdays for this season. As a result, reruns could be the solution, possibly of The Good Doctor or other hit ABC shows like Abbott Elementary.

When is The Good Doctor coming back?

Sadly, we don't have any confirmed answers about when The Good Doctor season 7 may premiere. It is all dependent on when the strikes end. However, even if they were to end tomorrow, scripts would still have to be written and the shows would have to be shot and edited.

At this point, it's all but confirmed that The Good Doctor season 7 will not have any new episodes before January 2024, and even episodes into the winter and spring are questionable the longer the negotiations aren't settled. It is possible that The Good Doctor season 7 will not air new episodes into fall 2024.

How to watch The Good Doctor

While not ideal, this gap in The Good Doctor can be used productively if you had an interest in the show but couldn't previously find the time to watch, as all six previous seasons are available to stream on-demand.

US viewers can find all episodes of The Good Doctor available to stream on Hulu. An alternative is if you have a TV service that offers ABC (any basic pay-TV subscription or live TV streaming services like Fubo, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV), you can access past episodes directly on ABC.com.

If you are in the UK or somewhere else where Hulu is not available, then The Good Doctor is streaming past episodes on Disney Plus.

The 2023-2024 network television lineup is taking shape, with ABC revealing a completely strike-proof schedule for the fall. The move pushes scripted series like The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy and ABC-newcomer 9-1-1 to midseason in favor of unscripted fare like Dancing with the Stars and new series The Golden Bachelor. 

ABC announced its fall 2023 lineup of shows on Tuesday, May 19, and scripted series were noticeably absent from the roster. The move is designed to carry the network through to midseason.

Even without scripted series, ABC's lineup is robust, with perennial favorites leading the charge. Dancing with the Stars will return to anchor Monday nights, followed by the premiere of The Golden Bachelor at 10 pm. The Golden Bachelor will feature older contestants looking for love in their retirement years. 

The rest of ABC's lineup is a mix of popular game shows like Celebrity Jeopardy!, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Press Your Luck and The $100,000 Pyramid — the latter three making up the network’s entire Thursday night roster — along with veteran hits like Bachelor in Paradise, 20/20, Shark Tank and America's Funniest Home Videos. What Would You Do?, the popular hidden camera series, is back after a three-year break. 

Repeat episodes of Abbott Elementary will air on Wednesdays following Judge Steve Harvey, and Sunday nights will be anchored by The Wonderful World of Disney. 

ABC also has six Monday Night Football games throughout the NFL season, and Saturdays will be dedicated to the network's Saturday Night College Football programming.

As of this writing, no premiere dates have been set for ABC's unscripted fall lineup. There's enough flexibility with the unscripted shows to make changes should the Writer's Guild of America and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers come to an agreement to allow for production to resume. 

At this point, however, ABC is making long-term plans, pushing its scripted lineup to later in the season. That means shows like Grey’s Anatomy, The Rookie, Abbott Elementary, The Conners and newcomer 9-1-1 will likely appear in the midseason. 

All of the networks have been planning for the fall TV season a bit differently amid the ongoing writers strike. NBC's fall lineup features a healthy mix of scripted and unscripted series while CBS is moving forward with a schedule that isn't much different from the norm. We're still waiting to learn more about the Fox schedule, but they are also relying heavily on unscripted.

Throughout The Good Doctor season 6 we got to witness Shaun (Freddie Highmore) become an attending, save Dr. Lim's (Christina Chang) life and cure her paralysis, as well as welcome his friend Jared (Chuku Modu) back to the hospital. But as The Good Doctor season 6 has come to an end, there were many major events that had fans curious about some of their favorite characters.

Entering The Good Doctor season 6 finale, there were questions about Dr. Glassman's (Richard Schiff) career and his relationship with Shaun; if everything would go alright with Lea's (Paige Spara) delivery; and what would happen when the personal and professional lives of Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper), Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) and Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee)?

We break down what happened in these situations, as well as what they could mean as he move forward with The Good Doctor season 7.

What happens with Shaun and Lea's baby?

Season 6 saw Shaun becoming an attending and expectant father alongside his wife Lea. But pregnancy and having a child was not a foregone conclusion for the newlyweds. Lea suffered two miscarriages and was diagnosed with a condition that would make carrying a pregnancy to term almost impossible. However, Lea does get pregnant and goes into labor ahead of the season finale.

Thankfully, it is a fairly uneventful labor and delivery, with only a brief moment where suction was needed to assist the baby stalled in the birth canal. So Shaun and Lea get to welcome their baby into the world. For Shaun, after losing a patient who was a father earlier in the finale, he thinks about the significance of living for persons you still have and decides to focus on his new baby, who he names after his deceased older brother, Steven.

Learning how to operate within relationships was a big theme for Shaun this season, so next season it'll be interesting to see how take those lessons into being parent. Also, what impact will his fractured relationship with Dr. Glassman has on him?

What happens with Dr. Glassman's career?

Dr. Glassman had a few things to deal with in season 6: working through the aftermath of a second divorce while supporting newlyweds Shaun and Lea; stabilizing the relationship with Dr. Lim and Shaun; providing counsel for Noah and helping Jared come back to the hospital. However, he also had his own issues that threatened to derail his career and relationship with Shaun.

There was a scare that Dr. Glassman's brain cancer had returned, though it ultimately proved not to be the case. However, Shaun notices Dr. Glassman has some cognitive issues and outs them to Dr. Lim, which puts the future of his surgical career at risk.

Thankfully, Dr. Glassman finds a solution for his career. He willingly decides to stop doing surgery and instead begins to serve as a surgical consultant, advising Dr. Lim on a difficult procedure in the finale. Perhaps there are more new development coming for his career down the road as well.

But his relationship with Shaun is still iffy, as he does not join the others in congratulating Shaun and Lea on the birth of their new baby. He does leave a gift though, a blanket with Steve already embroidered on it, proving that he still knows Shaun better than few others.

Does Dr. Andrews chose his career or personal life?

Dr. Andrews always wanted to become hospital president. His introductory experience was bumpy, but he grew into the role. His professional life took center stage, a welcome distraction from a failed marriage and not having children. He was emotionally scarred after learning of his first wife's infidelity, but in subsequent episodes forgives her and accepts some responsibility for the failed marriage. 

Dr. Andrews eventually starts a new relationship with Nurse Villanueva (Elfina Luk), seeing this new relationship as a second chance at happiness. But his career soon butts up against his relationship. The hospital board threatens his job for not squashing the nurses' unionization efforts, essentially forcing him to pick between his career and his personal life.

His priorities are clear as he plans to tender his resignation. Will the hospital board actually accept his resignation, or compromise with him and the nurses? Does this gesture convince the nurse of Dr. Andrews' seriousness, making her also commit? It will be interesting to see if season 7 brings another thriving hospital romance.

Are Dr. Reznick, Dr. Park and Eden a ready made family?

Dr. Park and Dr. Reznick finally acknowledged what viewers already knew — they love each other. This moment has been a journey since Dr. Park broke up with Dr. Reznick after she briefly opted to take a job in a different town. He constantly judges her for her career ambitions, but his opinion starts shifting when he sees her pursuing IVF. 

After many failed bouts, she still continues to try, but a turning point happens when Dr. Reznick cancels a fertility treatment to stay in the NICU to care for Eden. Dr. Reznick finally has the baby that she wants in Eden, and finds out what all working mothers know — the challenges of raising children by yourself while working. This leads to her decision to resign before Dr. Park declares his intention to build a life with her.

Viewers should look forward to watching the dynamic of first time perfectionist mom, Dr. Reznick and second time around, but first time girl dad, Dr. Park.

What happens with Danny's drug addiction? 

A key relationship this season was the one between Danny (Brandon Larracuente) and Jordan (Bria Henderson). They get to know each other and explore their budding attraction. But Jordan is surprised when she learns that Danny is a recovering addict, which proves to be a real obstacle.

In the season finale, Danny gets into a serious car accident but demands that he not be given any opiates, afraid of how it would impact his recovery. However, when it is determined he needs them, the doctors ultimately give it to him. He accepts that it was the right thing to do, but knows that if he is going to successfully deal with his addiction, he needs to return to his family. So he ultimately decides to leave the hospital.

All episodes of The Good Doctor season 6 are now available to stream on Hulu in the US.

After seven years, the popular medical drama The Good Doctor season 7 has end. It may have been a shortened season due to the impact of the 2023 Hollywood strikes, but that does not mean there wasn't plenty of emotion in bringing the story of Shaun Murphy and his fellow doctors to a close.

There was hope that the world of the TV series would continue with a spinoff, The Good Lawyer, but that never came to fruition. So these final episodes were the last we are getting of these characters and the universe that creator David Shore established.

The Good Doctor season 7 cast

The Good Doctor is led by Freddie Highmore's performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, but throughout its run it has been an ensemble series, focusing on the lives of many of the doctors that Shaun works with at the hospital.

So filling out the rest of the hospital staff are Richard Schiff's Dr. Glassman, Fiona Gublemann's Dr. Reznick, Will Yun Lee's Dr. Park, Christina Chang's Dr. Lim, Paige Spara's Lea, Bria Henderson's Dr. Allen, Noah Galvin's Dr. Wolke and Chuku Modu's Dr. Kalu, who returned after time away from the show in season 6, are going to round out the series regulars for The Good Doctor season 7. 

Brandon Larracuente, who played Dr. Daniel Perez in The Good Doctor season 6, is not returning as a series regular for season 7, though Deadline reports he could still occasionally appear as a guest star. Larracuente fans will be happy to hear that the actor has already lined up a new TV show, On Call, which is going to stream on Prime Video.

Lea (Paige Spara) is in active labor but is experiencing last minute doubts about her ability to keep her baby safe in the world. She insists on having things like her lucky socks, which Shaun (Freddie Highmore) goes home to get. He sees Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) outside his apartment and tells him Lea is in labor. Dr. Glassman congratulates him, but things are still weird between the two. Lea finds Dr. Glassman and tries to convince him to make up with Shaun, but during the conversation her water breaks. 

While Lea's labor progresses, Asher (Noah Galvin) brings Shaun a case about a little girl who needs surgery after being in a car accident becuase no other attendings are available. Shaun wants to prioritize being with Lea, but she assures him the little girl needs him more. The patient completes surgery successfully but during postoperative discussions with her parents, her father collapses. He appeared fine during all previous examinations and scans, and prioritized getting care for his daughters. 

While performing surgery on the father, Shaun realizes he has an aorta dissection that he cannot repair. The father dies. Asher is distraught because not only the man was the father of two young girls, but Asher examined him in the ER and didn't see any injuries from the accident. 

Shaun accompanies the widow to see her husband's body. As the widow bemoans not knowing how to move on, Shaun shares his experience of losing his brother Steve. He explains that you move on after the loss of a loved one because you have to live for the ones still alive. He joins Lea for their baby's delivery, assuring her that their baby will be fine in the world.

Danny (Brandon Larracuente), Jared (Chuku Modu) and Asher's boyfriend Jerome (Giacomo Baessato) get into an automobile accident while transporting a surgery patient via ambulance. Jared and Jerome are not seriously injured, but Danny is thrown from the hood of a car while helping an accident victim. He's transported with the other patients to the hospital and needs immediate surgery. He makes Jordan (Bria Henderson) promise not to give him opiates. 

Danny successfully completes the surgery, but as his body deals with the pain of recovery, he's at risk of developing cardiac issues and possibly dying. Danny asks Jordan to distract him from the pain by talking about their planned date for the same night. Jordan, despite objections from Jared, decides to administer fentanyl. Danny is initially upset about Jordan's decision, but after reviewing his chart realizes she made the right call. He decides that he needs to return home with his family if he's to get sober again. However, Danny tells Jordan they must have their date before he leaves.

During the date he thanks Jordan for saving his life, not just after the accident, but from the day they met, quietly supporting him through all he was going through. He tells her that he's going to miss her, but her faith in him makes him sure that he'll make it to sobriety.

Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) takes Eden to work with her after being unable to find a suitable nanny. She finds herself unable to focus on her patients and care for Eden. After being distracted and delivering subpar care to her patients, Dr. Reznick decides to resign because she cannot give her patients the best care unless she neglects Eden. She tells Dr. Park (Will Yun lee) that she already lost one love because of her career and she won't do it again.

While treating an accident victim, Dr. Park's patient keeps asking for a phone to make a call. Dr. Park asks who the person is and the patient shares that she's a friend from the nursing home who he does morning walks with. He hates getting up early but does it just to see the love of his life. This admission causes Dr. Park to realize how much he loves Dr. Reznick and that she's his real reason for living. He tells Dr. Reznick that she doesn't need to resign because he'll be there to share the responsibility as they build a family.

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) is helping a patient from the automobile accident and she asks Dr. Glassman to assist, telling him that even if he can't operate, his knowledge as a neurological consultant may make the difference between life and death for her patient. Dr. Glassman agrees to help. During the surgery, Dr. Lim talks to Dr. Glassman about forgiving Shaun and joining him for the birth of his son. Dr. Glassman reminds her about how Shaun embarrassed him in front of his whole team, but Dr. Lim counters by telling him that holding onto a grudge only hurts him.

Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) is put in a difficult position by the hospital board. The board is worried about his ability to navigate the nurses' union organizing efforts, especially since the nurse he's dating (Elfina Luk) is one of the main organizers. Dr. Andrews doesn't want to lose his relationship because of his job, and his girlfriend doesn't want their relationship to jeopardize his job. Dr. Andrews however decides to resign, choosing to prioritize having a meaningful relationship over being the hospital president.

The hospital family gathers in Lea's room to congratulate them on the birth of their son. Dr. Glassman sees the crowd and decides to leave his gift instead of entering the room. After everyone leaves, the nurse brings in the gift. Shaun opens the box to see a baby blanket embroidered with the name Steve, the name of Shaun's brother who died. Incidentally, Shaun and Lea had decided to name the baby Steve. Shaun wonders how Dr. Glassman guessed the name and Lea reminds him that Dr. Glassman knows him best.

Lea (Paige Spara) is two weeks from her due date, but Shaun (Freddie Highmore) is dealing with the fall out of taking Dr. Glassman's (Richard Schiff) scans to Dr. Lim (Christina Chang). 

The tests show that Dr. Glassman had a small stroke, which is impacting his memory. Dr. Lim wants him to take a break while they evaluate his fitness to operate, but Dr. Glassman refuses, saying there has been no evidence of his work being affected. He gives her an ultimatum: either she allows him to work or fire him. If she fires him, he threatens to sue. Dr. Glassman is also upset with Shaun for going behind his back to Dr. Lim.

Figuring out if the stroke caused any impairment, Dr. Lim discusses benching Dr. Glassman with Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper). He says that the hospital's top earner cannot be benched without clear proof of incompetence. Dr. Lim pushes back, reminding him it's her department, therefore her decision. However, since Dr. Glassman has threatened to sue, Dr. Andrews feels he has to step in. They compromise by allowing Dr. Glassman to operate under supervision. 

Shaun, Jordan (Bria Henderson) and Danny (Brandon Larracuente) get a male patient in the ER with a head injury from a car accident. He comes in with his adult daughter who insists on more testing even though he seems alert and responsive. She tells Shaun he's undergone a full personality change in recent months. He has become a kind and attentive father, after being cruel and ignoring to his family all his life. Shaun agrees to do an MRI. The tests show the patient has a tumor, which has caused the change in behavior. 

Jordan and Danny, meanwhile, are trying to become real friends by spending time outside the hospital. They awkwardly make plans, settling on having dinner at a restaurant recommended by Lea. 

Shaun advises the patient to have the tumor removed, but he declines when he hears it may cause him to revert to being a bad father. Shaun asks Dr. Lim to help convince the patient to have the surgery. She tells him to enlist the help of Dr. Glassman. Dr. Glassman explains that the brain can change and that after the surgery, he could stay a good father. The patient requests Dr. Glassman as his surgeon. 

Dr. Glassman, Shaun, Jordan and Danny practice the procedure, but Shaun questions Dr. Glassman's decisions so much he's asked to leave the room. Dr. Glassman tells Dr. Lim to take Shaun off the case. She relents but takes his place to observe. She informs Shaun and warns him he's in serious jeopardy of damaging his relationship with Dr. Glassman. 

The team does the brain surgery with Dr. Glassman at the helm, Dr. Lim assisting and Shaun observing in the gallery. Everything is proceeding as planned until Shaun observes Dr. Glassman pause and insists Dr. Glassman verbally tell the team the next step in the procedure. After realizing he can’t, Dr. Glassman leaves the OR. Dr. Lim takes over, completing the surgery successfully. 

Dr.Glassman confides in Dr. Lim that he pledged to put the patients' best interest first, but he never considered that it could mean he stops operating. During postoperative discussion, the patient instinctively withdraws his hand when his daughter tries to hold it. He however deliberately tries to hold her hand again when he remembers what their new relationship was like, proving Dr. Glassman’s point of the brain’s ability to rewire when the human tries.

Dr. Andrews and Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) treat a little boy who has terminal cancer. They find a new tumor that if removed could give him some additional months of life. The parents agree to the surgery but results from preoperative tests make him ineligible for surgery. Dr. Park advises starting palliative care, but the boy’s father insists they find another option. Dr. Park outlines the second surgical option, including the risks. The parents give approval, but during the surgery the doctors find the cancer has also eroded the patient's liver. They share the news with the parents, but the father is adamant about finding another solution, confessing he feels inadequate as a father, believing he is failing in role is to protect his children. Dr. Andrews tells him to focus on making good memories and to give the boy as many beautiful days as possible. As part of one of the patient's wishes, Dr. Andrews allows the parents to create a Santaland in the hospital so that their son could experience Christmas.

Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) is on leave with baby Eden. They're both adjusting to being home together, with Eden crying incessantly. Dr. Park stops in to check on them, but Dr. Reznick doesn't want to admit she may need help. Dr. Park suggests using the vibration of the washing machine to soothe Eden. Dr. Reznick does this but falls asleep, waking up just in time to prevent Eden from falling. Realizing that Dr. Reznick is overwhelmed, Dr. Park tells her about his own challenges as a new parent and how he inevitably figured it out. He lets her know that all parents feel inadequate until they figure things out. Dr. Reznick discovers that dancing with Eden soothes her and it becomes their thing.

Dr. Andrews starts to date Nurse Villaneuva (Elfina Luk). It starts well, with them both avoiding the sensitive topic of how nurses are compensated. But when she asks him about a nurse unionization effort, he tries to derail the union drive by offering incentives upfront. She agrees to float the idea with her colleagues, who turn down the offer. Things go south in the relationship when Dr. Andrews tries to use her to push his case with the nurses. She declines, but Dr. Andrews eventually apologises.

The episode ends with Dr. Glassman telling Shaun how much his actions in the OR embarrassed him. Shaun doesn't know how to make amends but he soon has a bigger worry: Lea calls, saying she's in labor. He turns to share the news with Dr. Glassman, but he’s gone.

The Good Doctor season 6 finale airs on Monday, May 1, at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC. All episodes are available to stream on Hulu in the US, Disney Plus in the UK.

As The Good Doctor season 6 winds down with its final few episodes over the next two weeks, many fans may be wondering if there's more of the medical drama in the pipeline?

The Good Doctor has been a fan favorite on ABC, as the Freddie Highmore-led series about a young doctor, Shaun Murphy, who has autism but also is a medical savant is the top-rated show in the 10 pm hour on Mondays in the US. People have also become attached to many of the other characters in the show, including Christina Chang's Dr. Lim, Paige Spara's Lea, Richard Schiff's Dr. Glassman and the other members of the medical team.

So are we getting The Good Doctor season 7 or is it joining the ranks of the other 2023 cancelled TV shows? Here's what we know.

Is The Good Doctor season 7 renewed or cancelled?

Rest easy Good Doctor fans, the show is coming back for season 7. The news was made official on April 19, per multiple reports.

With two episodes in season 6 still left to air, including the season 6 finale on May 1, no news was shared if all of The Good Doctor cast would be returning for season 7. We can certainly expect Freddie Highmore to be back, but there are some questions surrounding Schiff's Dr. Glassman, Fiona Gubelmann's Dr. Reznick and others that make it hard to say whether they will continue as series regulars until we know how the storylines of this season play out.

The Good Doctor season 7 is expected to once again be a part of ABC's fall lineup. Why we don't have an exact date for its premiere, we can guess it'll be sometime in September or October.

The Good Doctor spinoff — The Good Lawyer

Not only is The Good Doctor coming back for season 7, but it is possibly getting a spinoff series, The Good Lawyer.

The new series centers around Joni, a brilliant, funny and self-aware young lawyer who is relatively new to her prestigious law firm. Living with OCD, which can take a toll on her personal and professional life, she does not want to be treated differently and her attention to detail allows her to see cases in ways others often can't.

Kennedy McMann plays Joni, while Felicity Huffman and Bethlehem Million are the only other confirmed cast members at this time.

The Good Lawyer got a test run on The Good Doctor season 6 episode 16, and while it is expected that the show is going to be added to the ABC lineup in the 2023-2024 season, no official word has been given.

More specific details are likely to come when ABC announces its full 2023 fall TV lineup, which should come after the current 2022-2023 TV season wraps up in May.

After noticing some memory lapses by Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff), Shaun (Freddie Highmore) is convinced he has a neurological deficit, but Dr. Glassman shuts down the idea. Shaun continues to observe him on a case involving a young professional athlete with brain aneurysms. 

Jared (Chuku Modu) and Danny (Brandon Larracuente) are also on the case, struggling to find middle ground on the surgical plan as Shaun questions every decision taken by Dr. Glassman. The brain surgery is risky and Shaun worries Dr. Glassman may not be able to pull it off. Dr. Glassman justifies his option because it's the only one that guarantees the patient will play competitively again. Dr. Glassman completes the surgery successfully, even using an innovative technique to solve a surgical issue. Shaun is somewhat relieved but his concerns return during a postoperative discussion involving Dr. Glassman and the patient. 

Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) attempts to be more involved with the interns, deciding to include Jordan (Bria Henderson) and Asher (Noah Galvin) in a case with a patient who has a rare condition that has caused wart-like growths all over his body. He's however extremely optimistic, vocal about his faith in God and focusing on what he has to be grateful for. Asher is skeptical about how much his religion is impacting his medical decisions because he declines procedures to remove the warts. Jordan, who is already deeply religious, is inspired by the patient's faith and spends time meditating. 

The two interns also have relationship problems going on. Jordan runs into Danny, who apologizes for making comments about her love life. Asher also gets into a fight with his boyfriend. His disregard for the patient's lifestyle spills into his personal life. 

Dr. Andrews ultimately decides on a risky surgical plan. Jordan and Asher question the wisdom of his decision, but he reminds them that they're interns and he's not Dr. Lim (Christina Chang). The patient survives the surgery but develops a suspected blood clot that kills him. Losing the patient causes Dr. Andrews to become introspective, thinking about who and what really matters. This sees him talk with the nurse who had turned him down for a date, apologizing for his previous behavior and saying that he wants to change. She relents and agrees to go on a date with him. 

Outside of the hospital, Jared recruits Danny to volunteer as a kids soccer coach for his friend's non-profit. Jared originally tried playing matchmaker between his friend and Danny, but Danny lets him know that his plan is to be sober for one year before he starts dating again. Jared says he understands and that Jordan made him promise not to derail his recovery. Jordan embraces how important Danny is in her life and suggests to him that they focus on being real friends. Asher also realizes how his argumentative nature can put people off and apologizes to his boyfriend. He admits his tendencies but also confesses how important the relationship is to his life and that he doesn't want to lose it.

Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) is still by Eden's side, advocating for her as the social worker tries to find her foster parents. With Eden's health concerns, many foster parents don't want to take her. The social worker finds one family who agrees to take the baby. However, after finding out about the baby's condition, change their minds. Dr. Reznick decides to take Eden, not just to foster but adopt her. She decides to stop IVF treatment and focus on Eden. She tells Dr. Park (Will Yun lee) that Eden is the daughter she's been waiting for.

The episode closes with Shaun showing Dr. Lim a scan of Dr. Glassman's brain with the spot. Shaun believes the spot is damaged brain tissue from chemotherapy that is permanent. This means that his executive function is impaired and he shouldn't be performing surgery.

What will the penultimate episode of season 6 bring? What will Dr. Reznick's life look like as a new mother? How will Jordan and Danny adjust to being just friends? Will the relationship between Dr. Andrews and the nurse work? How will Dr. Glassman react to being pulled from surgery?

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) spend a lot of time together waiting for the results of Dr. Glassman's MRI. After discovering a spot on Dr. Glassman's brain, Shaun worries about treating a possible cancer recurrence. Understanding that a cancer recurrence would be terminal, so Dr. Glassman tries to share as much parenting knowledge he can with Shaun as possible. 

He talks about regretting not being there as much for his daughter and missing many firsts. He encourages Shaun to learn to prioritize. While they assemble a crib they bought, one of Shaun's patients has a surgical emergency. This is his first opportunity to choose. He hesitates but Dr. Glassman helps him realize the surgery is more important than assembling baby furniture. 

When the test results come in, Shaun and Dr. Glassman review them together. They are relieved that the cancer hasn't returned. Shaun is once again given the opportunity to prioritize career and family when he is given the chance to perform an interesting surgery or go home to Lea (Paige Spara). He passes on the surgery.

Elsewhere in the hospital, a patient comes into the ER with a severe injury. His body is almost totally severed. Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) take lead on the case, and have interns Jordan (Bria Henderson), Danny (Brandon Larracuente), Jared (Chuku Modu) and Asher (Noah Galvin) research a surgical solution that will prevent amputation of the patient's lower body. Dr. Lim wants to give the patient every chance of avoiding amputation, but Dr. Andrews prefers a more cautious approach. This indicates Dr. Andrews’ lack of confidence in Dr. Lim's judgment and faith in the surgical interns. 

Working together on the solution, Danny’s jealously of the budding connection between Jared and Jordan is evident. He gives Jordan a hard time while working together. Asher also snubs Jared a bit because he pre-judges him as being rich and entitled. Jared shares with Asher a surgical loss that haunts him because he thought that he took an unnecessary risk. Asher provides support by telling Jared that patients die sometimes even when they don't take risks. He believes that it's better to lose a patient while fighting your hardest,than losing the patient after not really trying. 

The interns provide an out of the box solution for the patient, with Jared giving them the key to making recovery possible. The surgery still has a complication that makes Dr. Andrews want to amputate, but Jared steps in again after Asher reminds him to fight for his patient. Ultimately, the surgery is a success. Dr. Andrews tries to apologize for doubting Dr. Lim, but she demands that either he has confidence in her abilities and stay out of her way, or fire her.

Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelman) is finally medically cleared to have her embryos implanted. The next decision is choosing whether to have a baby boy or girl. She finds a man with a baby girl outside the hospital on her way to work. The man is agitated and refuses help from a security guard who first approached him. Dr. Reznick gets him to calm down and agree to have her take the baby. The baby has a serious condition that requires heart surgery and her mother is currently hospitalized fighting a septic infection. Dr. Reznick becomes the baby's advocate, debating with Shaun and Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee), who are the primary surgeons, about what's the best course of treatment. 

Dr. Reznick seems to be personalizing her treatment decisions, not taking into account that the baby's mom is bipolar. While the mother is seeking treatment, having a sick baby needing consistent follow-up care may not be the best decision. Dr. Park tries to point this out. He doesn't push the topic though because he realizes that Dr. Reznick is trying to come to grips with who she'll be as a parent and what her parenting decisions will look like. They include Shaun in the context of balancing work and family. Dr. Park shares that as a surgeon some sacrifice is necessary, while Dr. Reznick emphasizes that family should always come first. The baby survives the procedure but her mother dies after having a cardiac episode. Dr. Reznick is emotionally bonded with the baby, reschedules her implantation appointment so that she can spend time comforting the baby while she's in the hospital. 

The episode ends with Shaun showing Lea the new nursery. He discovers unused screws on the ground indicating that Dr. Glassman missed a step in assembling the crib. He thinks this indicates something is wrong with his brain. 

What is really wrong with Dr. Glassman? Will Dr. Andrew and Dr. Lim's relationship recover from the breach it suffered working on the last case? Will Dr. Reznick abandon her IVF plans in favor of adopting baby Eden, who she has clearly bonded with?

After Shaun discovers that Dr. Glassman used fewer sutures than normal in a surgical procedure, he becomes obsessed with discovering why it happened. He reviews six months of Dr. Glassman's post-operative reports and even gets input from the surgical interns. 

While monitoring one of his patients, he realizes that Dr. Glassman may be having issues with his executive function. This leads him to deduce that his brain cancer has returned. Shaun tries to force Dr. Glassman to get an MRI. Dr. Glassman refuses to, explaining that his last scans were clean. Concerned about Shaun's obsession, Lea suggests that Shaun's reaction is more about him worrying about becoming a father and being scared. She suggests that he could be projecting these feelings onto the only real father/son relationship he's ever had.

Jared is doing his best to fit in. He and Jordan are assigned a case with a female patient who comes in with her adult daughter. Jared's fear of failure causes him to be hesitant in approaching the patient, even just for a physical exam. After an initial physical exam and subsequent testing and scans, the patient is diagnosed with sleep apnea and other health issues resulting from sleep apnea. 

The patient's daughter is solely responsible for her mother's care, which is often laborious for the daughter. Jordan is particularly sensitive to this arrangement, as being the only girl in her household made her the default caregiver to her brothers. The patient decides to do a less risky course of treatment because she's afraid. This however means that she needs more help maintaining her health, and her daughter decides to forgo an overseas job in favor of caring for her mother. 

While dealing with the case, Jared hosts an elaborate karaoke party, inviting all his colleagues in the hope of fitting in. Only Shaun, Lea and Jordan show up. This causes his fear of not fitting in to resurface and he confides in Jordan about his insecurities resulting from his childhood. The conversation sparks between the two colleagues a brief moment of attraction.

Later, the previously mentioned patient becomes septic while doing dialysis and Jordan revisits the idea of surgery with the patient. She reminds her that fear isn't a real reason not to take chances, and the surgery wouldn't only mean a full life for her, but also for her daughter. The patient consents to surgery. When there is a hiccup in surgery, Jared speaks up with a suggestion that solves a surgical problem and saves the patient's life. The patient recovers well, realizes how much life she has ahead of her and even encourages her daughter to take the job overseas. 

Shaun, Asher, Danny and Dr. Lim treat a woman who comes into the ER with apparent breathing and heart issues. She also has long COVID, resulting in cognitive issues, and the doctors discover that she has a rare heart condition that is usually diagnosed in childhood. The patient is hopeful that her heart condition is linked to her cognitive issues but Dr. Lim tells her otherwise. 

Apparently, this patient’s heart condition if left untreated will kill her, but surgery to treat it may result in more cognitive deficits. The patient is against the surgery because she still has hopes of continuing her research as a scientist herself. 

Dr. Lim shares her experience about being paralyzed, hating it at first until she learned to love her life and experiences being wheelchair-bound. She explained that she loved her new life so much, she declined a surgery to regain mobility because of the risks. Furthermore, Dr. Lim encourages the patient to accept her new normal and this would help with the yearning for her old life. 

This conversation ironically helps the patient decide to do the surgery, even though she may worsen her cognitive function. Despite a complication during the procedure, the patient retains her speech and memory function. She decides to focus on her current life and learn to love it.

Dr. Andrews starts a relationship with one of the nurses, having routine coffee dates and even signing a hospital document disclosing their relationship. They try to plan a dinner date but have scheduling issues because the nurse has to work double shifts due to staffing issues. Dr. Andrews lets her know that her schedule will soon be freer because he has hired travel nurses. She responds by letting him know that travel nurses aren't the solution, to which Dr. Andrews argues his point by citing budgetary constraints. The relationship ultimately fizzles as the nurse believes that Dr. Andrew's hiring decisions reflect how he feels about the worth of nurses in general. 

The episode ends with Shaun being totally open with Dr. Glassman about his real fear of losing his only real father while he becomes a father himself. Shaun's vulnerability affects Dr. Glassman who decides to do the scan.

What does it take for relationships to move forward when past actions impact the current relationship?

Back as an intern, Jared (Chuku Modu) and Shaun (Freddie Highmore) have to navigate Jared being an employee and Shaun's friend. Lea (Paige Spara) tries to advise Shaun about the delicacy of their new arrangement, but Shaun brushes her off. Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) also advises Shaun to set boundaries, but Shaun again dismisses the concern. He does, however, take Dr. Andrews' opinion more seriously when he's told that Jared's performance will reflect on him. 

A young female patient comes into the ER and Shaun, Jared and Jordan (Bria Henderson) work on her case. Jared makes mistakes on his first case largely because he refuses to listen to Jordan and feels a need to prove that he's more than an intern. He also introduces a risky alternative surgical plan to the patient's family without Shaun's approval. This causes Shaun to bristle, reprimanding Jared more harshly than necessary. 

Jordan advises Jared to spend more time listening. Jared then advises his young patient to tell her mother how she feels and implores the mother to really listen. Shaun is also advised by Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) to take more time to allow Jared to learn and become an asset, much like he was allowed to. In the end, both Jared and Shaun and the mother/patient relationship benefit from making an effort to see the other's perspective. Fortunately the surgery was also a success.

Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) and Asher (Noah Galvin) treat a young boy with a heart condition. During treatment, the friction between the patient's mother and grandmother constantly surfaces, while Asher and his boyfriend have issues that are rearing their head. Both groups are forced to articulate their issues. 

The young mother left her son with his grandmother and went on to live her life. The grandmother now only views her daughter as irresponsible and not capable of making decisions about the child's care. Asher and his boyfriend, meanwhile, are at odds because he withheld his positive HIV status. The boyfriend justifies this by explaining that his viral load is so low that it's undetectable, making him incapable of passing on the virus. Both groups come to realize that past actions aren't the best predictor of current behavior. 

The grandmother comes to accept her daughter, commending her on how much she has grown. Upon advice from Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and Dr. Park, Asher makes an effort to talk things through with his boyfriend and they resolve their issues. The young male patient also has a good surgical outcome.

The episode ends with Jared and Shaun clearing the air about how they will balance both their professional and personal relationships. Jared takes it a step further by privately speaking to Dr. Andrews and requesting that he be assessed on his own merits, with him bearing all the consequences, not Shaun.

How do personal differences impact the way people see and treat others? That's what The Good Doctor episode, "The Good Lawyer," examines, providing an example of the difference it makes when someone has the love and faith of a mentor and friend.

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) is sued for malpractice after amputating the hand of an accident victim. The suit involves an incident where Shaun and Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) stopped to render aid at the scene of an accident while on their way home from a dinner. A brother and sister were gravely injured after their car flipped. The brother who was the driver, was flung from the car because he wasn't wearing his seat belt. The brother is the plaintiff suing Shaun. 

Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) takes Shaun to see his usual malpractice lawyer, Janet Stewart (Felicity Huffman). She encourages Shaun to settle the case, citing the risk of losing his medical license if they go to trial. Shaun objects because the terms of the settlement require that he be supervised for six months. While returning from the bathroom, he meets a junior lawyer at the firm named Joni (Kennedy McMann). Joni shares Shaun's opinion on the case, so he hires her on the spot.

Joni has obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), which she manages with rituals, like needing all actions to be in series of threes to prevent intrusive thoughts and freezing mid-sentence. This combined with her fear of contaminants makes trying a jury case difficult. 

Shaun immediately connects with Joni, not only because he understands her condition, he empathizes with her as someone trying to achieve success in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. The biggest difference between Shaun and Joni is their professional support system. While Dr. Glassman made accommodations and supported Shaun throughout his residency, Joni doesn't have the similar experience. Her immediate supervisor almost fired her and instead of making accommodations for her on the job, has banished her to the solitary task of research.

With Shaun's insistence about being represented by Joni, she gets her first shot at being a trial lawyer. She messes up her first motion, mostly due to lack of support, and her supervisor berates her, declaring she won't ever be a lawyer. Her supervisor hoped to have her fail and force Shaun to change lawyers. Shaun reminds Joni about why she became a lawyer and comforts her with the fact that everyone makes mistakes.

Joni maximizes her strength for not missing details as a cudgel to chip away at her opposing counsel's argument. With the support of her mentor, she feels empowered to win. A brief lapse into self doubt causes Joni to revert to previous habits of copying others, but her mentor reminds her to play to her strengths since it has worked for her.

Joni wins the suit for Shaun, while demonstrating how differences don't define your abilities or who you are as a person. They also shouldn't be used against a person. You are more than your differences.

This was a special episode of The Good Doctor, as it served as a defacto pilot episode for the announced spinoff following Joni, The Good Lawyer, expected to premiere on ABC in fall 2023.

ABC was planning to build on the success of The Good Doctor with a spinoff show, The Good Lawyer. While the show's main characters got an introduction in The Good Doctor season 6, that looks to be all we're getting on this show, as The Good Lawyer has been canned.

The Good Lawyer was created by David Shore and Liz Friedman, who are the showrunners for The Good Doctor.

The Good Lawyer release date

Things looked like they were full steam ahead for The Good Lawyer in spring 2023, but the Hollywood strikes impacted the show from premiering in fall 2023 as initially planned. Despite many of ABC's scripted shows returning in winter/spring 2024, The Good Lawyer is not one of them, as Deadline reported that the network decided to not move forward with the spinoff.

The Good Lawyer plot

The Good Lawyer, like The Good Doctor, was going to focus on a young professional that has a neurological development condition, in this case, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

The series focused on Joni, a brilliant, funny and self-aware young lawyer who is relatively new to her prestigious law firm. Living with OCD, which can take a toll on her personal and professional life, she does not want to be treated differently and her attention to detail allows her to see cases in ways others often can't.

Many of the main characters for The Good Lawyer appeared in a The Good Doctor episode to introduce them to audiences. Read WTW's recap of the episode right here.

The Good Lawyer cast

Kennedy McMann was set to lead The Good Lawyer as Joni. McMann actually has OCD in her real-life. This would have been the second TV series that McMann is going to lead, having previously starred as the titular detective in The CW series Nancy Drew.

Alongside McMann in the series was Felicity Huffman, who played Janet Stewart, serving in the mentor role for Joni much like Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff) does for Shaun on The Good Doctor. Huffman is best known for her run on Desperate Housewives, but she has also been in When They See Us, Get Shorty, American Crime, Sport Night and is an Oscar-nominee for Transamerica. The Good Lawyer is Huffman's first role since she completed her prison sentence for her involvement in the college admission scandal a few years ago.

The only other announced cast member was Bethlehem Million as Abbie, Joni's big sister, roommate, best friend and biggest cheerleader. Million has appeared in And Just Like That…, Flatbush Misdeameanors and Sick.

The only trailer we have for The Good Lawyer at this time is the promo for The Good Doctor episode that serves as the legal drama's pilot episode.

The series has not yet come to air full-time, but if you want to watch The Good Doctor episode that launches The Good Lawyer, you can do so on ABC, which is available on all basic cable packages, as well as live TV streaming services like FuboTV, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV. The episode is then going to be available on-demand on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus in the UK.

Lea's (Paige Spara) pregnancy has progressed to the point where she has to start making tangible lifestyle adjustments, like transitioning into maternity pants. She has some reservations about how her life will change and her feelings are further exacerbated when Shaun (Freddie Highmore) insists they discuss changing her car for safety reasons. 

Lea discusses her conflicting emotions with Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff). While Lea is excited about becoming a mom, she's a bit resentful about how all the changes will impact her current lifestyle and how she defines herself. She believes her car helps define who she is as a person and doesn't want to lose that part of herself. Dr. Glassman advises that having conflicting emotions is part of being human and she has no need to feel guilty. 

Dr. Glassman solves the car problem by buying them a sleek SUV and has it painted exactly like Lea's current car. Both Lea and Shaun are excited about their new ride.

While Lea deals with her pregnancy, unfortunately for Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann), she still hasn't gotten pregnant via IVF. The issue compounds when she has to deal with a pregnant woman whose pregnancy needs to be terminated. 

The woman is part of the study Dr. Reznick oversees and a routine check up discovers she's leaking amniotic fluid. This condition can lead to uterine infection that requires a hysterectomy and possible death of the mother. Dr. Reznick advises her patient to terminate, but the patient is desperate to keep her baby, even at risk of death. This is only strengthened after Jordan (Bria Henderson) shares her personal belief regarding religion and abortion.

Dr. Reznick accuses Jordan of not being objective about her advice because of her faith and residual guilt about having an abortion. Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) shares that personal experience often affects discussion around the topic of abortion, even sharing her own abortion story. Ultimately, Jordan is forced to confront her own feelings of guilt about having an abortion and forgive herself.

On the brink of death, at the patient's bedside, Jordan shares her own experience of dealing with guilt and coming to understand how to forgive herself. She explains to the patient that in order to fulfill her God given purpose of becoming a mother, she has to let the current fetus go. The patient consents and asks Jordan to perform the procedure. This becomes a full circle and healing moment for Jordan. The incident also brings Jordan, Dr. Lim and Dr. Reznick closer together despite having conflicting opinions on a difficult topic.

Shaun, Asher (Noah Galvin) and Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) work together to help a VIP client. The patient has a concierge doctor, Jared (Chuku Modu), who was a former intern at the hospital. He was fired for assaulting an attending who he believed had harmed a fellow intern. Dr. Andrews was the chief of surgery who terminated Jared and is now personally invested in the care of the VIP, as Dr. Andrews is lobbying him to fund one of the hospital's initiatives. 

The patient develops some complications, but Shaun is able to diagnose the root cause of his issues and provide treatment. 

Shaun talks to Jared about fulfilling his potential as a surgeon. Jared discovers he really misses practicing medicine and wants to come back. After receiving the blessing of Dr. Andrews, he speaks with Dr. Lim, expressing how much he's grown and learned about himself. Dr. Lim gives him a place as a first-year intern and welcomes him back to the hospital. However, losing his concierge doctor angers the VIP patient who then rescinds his offer of funding to the hospital. 

Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) and Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) get a patient through the ER who appears to have terminal cancer. Dr. Park realizes the patient is the same man who had an affair with his ex-wife. Despite his feelings, Dr. Park continues on the case and discovers the patient was misdiagnosed and his cancer isn't actually terminal. The patient learns he's not going to die but doesn't seem happy. Daniel helps Dr. Park realize the real reason the patient came to their ER is to seek forgiveness for past transgressions. Dr. Park discusses his feelings with Dr. Reznick who helps him see he has a pattern of holding grudges. Dr. Park makes the conscious decision to forgive the patient who wronged him in that past, which the patient appreciates.

The episode ends with Shaun, Lea and Jared celebrating being back together. There's a knock at the door, and when Shaun answers he's served papers saying he's being sued for malpractice. Who is suing Sean and why?

What does it take to be the first person doing something? That's a big question addressed in The Good Doctor season 6 episode 14, as well as what it's like navigating how to meet expectations of family and friends.

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) discuss names for their baby. This happens while they continue to host Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) in their home. Dr. Glassman, in his bid to help prepare for the baby, starts child-proofing their apartment, suggesting baby names and buying high chairs and nanny cams. Lea already feels somewhat hemmed in by his presence and Shaun oversharing with him, but the last straw was her inability to use the toilet because she couldn't open the child lock. 

Shaun explains to Dr. Glassman that they love him and want him to be a part of the baby's life — he's after all the surrogate grandfather — but Lea needs to maintain some boundaries. Dr. Glassman moves into an apartment in the same building. Lea thinks he may still be too close, but we'll wait to see how that plays out.

A little boy comes into the ER after falling and hitting his head, and seems to be having a stroke. Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) and Shaun are his doctors. The boy needs brain surgery and during the procedure they think he has a rare autoimmune condition that requires chemotherapy. His father is a firefighter, away in another state dealing with the aftermath of a natural disaster. The little boy hates the chemotherapy and he and his mother struggle to deal with the treatment in the absence of the father. Dr. Park calls the father, explaining that his family needs him to come back. 

Additional testing reveals the little boy has a different rare condition. His father is frustrated about his son receiving unnecessary chemotherapy. Dr. Park explains he understands his frustration but his son's condition is very hard to diagnose, often resulting in patients receiving unnecessary chemotherapy for long periods. Luckily his son won't have to. His parents still have concerns though about their child potentially having to do multiple brain surgeries. 

During the procedure, Dr. Park asks Shaun to find a way to do the second correction at the same time. Shaun declines at first, citing high risk factors but then finds an alternative low risk option. During this whole process, Shaun learns from Dr. Park how to be more empathic to children, a skill set he will need as a new parent. 

The surgery goes well and both parents are relieved and overwhelmed with gratitude to Dr. Park. 

Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) approaches Jordan (Bria Henderson) about speaking to some female high school students of color about becoming a doctor. She initially declines, saying it isn't her responsibility to provide representation. Asher (Noah Galvin) can't understand her reluctance, but she tells him he has no idea what it's like to be her. 

Jordan's grandma comes into the ER complaining of difficulty breathing and chest tightness. They discover a more serious heart condition needing immediate surgery. The doctors have to stop mid surgery due to an unforeseen condition, rescheduling the surgery until they can come up with a low risk and effective surgical plan. 

Jordan's grandmother endears herself to the staff, bonding with Dr. Andrews about a culturally significant bookstore and advising Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) about creating a narcotics anonymous support group at the hospital when his other group is starting to make him late for work.

This all forces Jordan to confront her feelings of inadequacy around her grandmother. Jordan asks her how she can easily praise and support Daniel, but never give her the same kind of acknowledgement. But her grandmother explains that before Jordan was in medical school, she didn't even know Black female doctors existed; her accomplishment inspired her to learn more. However, this conversation is interrupted by her grandmother having a medical emergency and needing immediate surgery.

During the procedure Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) is stumped on how to proceed. Jordan provides a surgical plan and talks Dr. Lim through it. After recovery, Jordan and her grandmother continue their conversation. She shared how her idea made a difference during the surgery and she finally gets the love and recognition from her grandmother. Jordan ultimately decides to speak with the female high schoolers of color.

Elsewhere in the episode, off of Jordan's grandmother's encouragement, Daniel plans the first meeting of a support group at the hospital with the help of Dr. Andrews. Though only one other staff member shows up, it gives Daniel a feeling of validation.

"39 Differences" focuses on how loved ones work through differences in making important decisions and learning to compromise. 

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) are realizing how different their parenting styles are when Shaun places their child on the waitlist of a preschool that's an Ivy League college feeder. The tension is exacerbated for the young doctor when he gets a patient in the ER whose parents are feuding over their own parenting choices. 

Shaun, Asher (Noah Galvin) and Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) treat a young boy who stepped on a rusted nail at camp. His parents are now arguing over the decision to send him to camp, debating about keeping their son safe and letting him have fun. Asher and Daniel comment on the parents obvious disagreement, saying it adversely affects the child. 

Shaun observes their disagreement and worries he and Lea will also have issues because they are so different. He documents 39 differences between himself and Lea, hoping to iron them out before the baby is born. He wonders if love will be enough for them to survive their differences. 

The boy's condition worsens, with neurological complications the doctors attribute to an infection. They initially think it's the result of a tick bite, which adds fuel to the safety versus fun debate regarding the son attending camp. Shaun ultimately discovers the infection likely resulted from a nasal rinse administered by the father before the son went to camp. The child needs a risky surgical brain procedure, which requires both parents to agree. The father, who usually errs on the side of caution, decides to be optimistic and joins the mother in approving the surgery, starting the journey of reconciliation of their relationship. The child survives the procedure with all neurological function intact. 

Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) is dealing with the complete loss of his house to a fire. He is absent from work as he tries to recover family memories. Shaun visits him, still worried that love won’t be enough for Lea and him to successfully navigate their different parenting styles. Shaun asks why Glassman’s love for his wife couldn't surmount their problems?

He tells Shaun that he and his wife were in the prime of their careers when they had a child, but a child changes everything, including causing a shift in their relationship. He tells Shaun to talk to Lea. After Shaun leaves, Lea stops. Dr. Glassman gives her some additional wisdom, sharing memories of his daughter and tells her that she should talk to Shaun. 

Dr. Lim (Christine Chang) and Jordan (Bria Henderson) treat a young voracious vlogger, who needs a double lung transplant. Dr. Lim has treated this patient for 11 years and is emotionally invested in her survival. The donated lungs arrive but have pneumonia, potentially derailing the transplant operation, the patient's last chance of surviving. Jordan suggests a last ditch effort of putting the lungs on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine to heal them. Initially the procedure doesn't seem to work and they tell the patient the bad news, meaning the patient is placed back on the donor list. 

Dr. Lim refuses to give up on the damaged lungs, staying late to monitor their repair. She changes treatment course, risking either finding a solution or totally destroying the lungs. The patient and her mother have a serious conversation about her chance of survival. The patient faces her mortality head on, convincing her mother to accept it also. Fortunately, the lungs get repaired in time and the transplant is successful. 

Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) has her first study in her new position and enlists the help of Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee). One of their patients appears to be ill suited for the trial. Reznick thinks the screening protocol for the trial is flawed or the patient lied to gain admission. Park argues she is too cynical and needs to change her outlook as she tries to become a parent. He asks her if she wants to raise a child who views the world as mostly bad, assuming the worst of everyone. 

They ultimately discover the discrepancies in the patient's lab results is due to a condition previously hidden because the patient frequently donated blood. Reznick hesitantly agrees to shift her world outlook and Park gets unlimited use of her new espresso machine.

The episode concludes with both Shaun and Lea returning to see Dr. Glassman at his burnt out house. Lea initiates a conversation but is interrupted by the baby kicking. This produces a bonding moment for Lea and Shaun, where they find common ground focusing on what really matters. Lea also invites Dr. Glassman to join their moment of wonder, telling him to think about all the new memories that they will create.

After Dr. Reznick's (Fiona Gubelman) first IVF procedure was unsuccessful, she wants to restart the process immediately, regardless of side effects. But things get complicated after Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) offers her the career opportunity of a lifetime. With how much time the new job will take, she worries about being able to balance that while being a single mom. 

She reaches out to Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee), who advises her that being physically present for your child is the best thing, underscoring that her present job is perfect for motherhood. Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) advises her to decide what brings her the most joy and focus on that. 

With all this in mind, Dr. Reznick declines the position. But Dr. Andrews shares how his mother was very career-focused but he could always count on her when he needed to. He emphasized being a good mother doesn't look one way, and he believes Dr. Reznick can be both a good mother and have a high-powered career. This convinces Dr. Reznick to ultimately accepts the offer.

Another move in the hospital sees Dr. Lim taking over direct supervision of the surgical residents after having to fire Danica (Savannah Welch) and place the other three residents on probation. Dr. Lim works alongside Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) and Asher (Noah Galvin) on a patient who has advanced heart failure. She recommends a high risk procedure. Asher is excited at first but gets increasingly worried about the risk as he does more research. He challenges Dr. Lim, hoping for support from Daniel. 

Dr. Lim is adamant her choice is the best while admitting the risks. Asher doesn't think she's adequately weighing the risks to the patient's life or even presenting the risks appropriately to the patient. Dr. Lim goes ahead with the procedure and complications develop during surgery. Asher provides a solution that ends up saving the patient's life on the table and extends his time while he waits for a transplant. 

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Jordan (Bria Henderson) work on a case involving a sexually active 13-year-old girl, with her trip to the hospital a result of that. Jordan is opposed to the patient being sexually active so young and wants to involve child protective services. Shaun disagrees because, technically, it's not illegal — her mother is aware and her boyfriend is the same age. Jordan's opposition is based on her moral commitment to abstinence, while Sean insists that they advise based on medicine and the law. The patient develops complications during surgery and flat lines. She survives and Shaun advises avoiding sex for at least six months. 

During a conversation with Lea (Paige Spara), Jordan confides about her decision to remain abstinent until marriage. Lea unintentionally pities her, underscoring Jordan's decision to keep her abstinence private. She maintains most people don't understand her decision. 

Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) is forced to leave his house due to a termite infestation, so he ends up staying with Shaun and Lea. The arrangement works for a while, with Dr. Glassman being the ultimate guest and cooking meals. Lea notes how similar Dr. Glassman can be to Shaun in a domestic setting. However, the breaking point is Lea mistakenly joining Dr. Glassman in the shower after thinking it was Shaun. 

In addition to the termites, the house needs to have its roof replaced, and everyone agrees that Dr. Glassman needs alternative living arrangements for the extended period he can’t be in his house. Shaun and Lea ask why he doesn't sell the house since it requires so much work, but Dr. Glassman shares how the house holds his best memories of his family. 

Unfortunately, the choice may no longer be his, as the episode ends with the house setting on fire due to faulty wiring. Dr. Glassman can only look on as his family home burns.

Responsibility, love and the sacrifice that comes with parenting are the big lessons learned The Good Doctor season 6 episode 11, which originally aired on January 30.

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) witness a hit and run involving a dog while they're on Lea's babymoon. They take the dog to the vet, where they are told the dog needs surgery. Without the dog’s owners being present, Lea convinces Shaun to pay for the surgery. Dealing with a sick dog amplifies the anxiety that Lea has about becoming a mother, and also forces her and Shaun to confront the differences they have about parenting. 

Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) gets involved as a medical expert, suggesting alternative surgical options to repair the dog's incontinence. He also advises Shaun to talk to Lea about her underlying anxieties and insecurities about becoming a mother. The couple talk about patterning the parenting styles of their parents, discussing their own insecurities. Dr. Glassmans also talks to Lea, sharing his experiences with his own daughter and explaining that worrying as a parent is normal.

Eventually, the dog's owners are found. 

Back at the hospital, a father comes into the ER with multiple puncture wounds after an accident on the job. His only family is his 16-year-old son. The patient develops complications during the surgery and a lifesaving decision involving a possible amputation needs to be taken. Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) and Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelman) decide to ask for his son's input, who suggests amputation if it gives his dad a better chance of survival. 

Dr. Park ultimately takes the riskier route, justifying his decision by explaining that as a parent, the patient would want to preserve the option to continue working so that he can care for his son. The father survives the surgery and retains the function of his arm. His son is swamped with guilt about suggesting amputation. The father responds by reassuring him that just being there for him is most important. 

Dr. Park apologizes to Dr. Reznick about his abrasive manner in vetoing the amputation. He confides he's feeling more like he's losing his son as he gains independence. Dr. Reznick in turn confides about her unsuccessful implantation of her IVF treatment. 

Dani (Savannah Welch) gets home after working a night shift to find a former Navy colleague at her doorstep suffering from a gunshot wound. Dani wants to follow procedure and take him to the hospital, but because of his parole stipulation, reporting the gunshot wound would likely trigger a parole violation and result in him going back to prison, meaning another lengthy separation from his daughter. The wound is more serious than Dani initially thought and she needs help treating. 

She calls Asher (Noah Galvin) for advice, ultimately having to confide in him about the situation. He tries to convince her to take her friend to the hospital to no avail. Dani's stubborn streak is on display, as she refuses to follow protocol in her quest to protect her friend. He agrees to talk her through the procedure. 

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) shows up to check in on Dani and discovers the unauthorized surgical procedure in process. Dani confides that her friend was first on the battlefield when she lost her leg. After relenting, mainly out of gratitude to Dani for supporting her while she was wheelchair bound, Dr. Lim agrees to help. Talking with the patient, he explains how he is getting help for his PTSD and wants nothing more than a second chance with his family. 

The patient eventually develops complications and needs to go to the hospital. Dr. Lim bends procedure by misplacing the bullet, negating the need for involving the police. However, after consultation with Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper), she agrees that while Asher deserves a written reprimand, Dani needs to be removed from the surgical internship program. Dani accepts the repercussions with no regrets after finding out that her friend won't be going back to prison and can stay with his family.

The episode ends with Lea and Shaun feeling more confident heading into parenthood and Dani taking solace in seeing her friend bonding with his daughter post-surgery.

The Good Doctor season 6 returns with an episode that focuses on the power of community and support it brings. 

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) has completed her surgery and is walking again, while her boyfriend waits for a response to his pre-op bedside proposal. She says she's focusing on her recovery, but Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) reminds her that her boyfriend deserves a response. 

Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) survived his overdose and is back at work with restrictions. Jordan (Bria Henderson) is his immediate supervisor, which makes their relationship awkward. He tries to reassure her she wasn't the cause of his relapse, explaining why he chose to take drugs instead of preparing for their dinner. He admits while she wasn't the cause, he thinks in an effort to convince himself he was healthy enough for a relationship, he inadvertently placed too much pressure on his sobriety. He asks for a new supervisor because he believes working in close proximity to Jordan risks a reoccurrence of the same situation. 

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) are monitoring their high risk pregnancy. A routine check up reveals an issue with her uterine wall, putting the pregnancy at risk. Shaun suggests a fairly new procedure and requests that Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) and Dr. Lim perform the procedure. After Lea agrees, the surgery is successful and she stays in the hospital for postoperative care. 

Shaun is very protective of Lea, screening and limiting her visitors, as he is worried about her medical risks. This makes Lea despondent. Asher (Noah Galvin) explains to Shaun that Lea needs her community of friends. Shaun relents and Jordan spends time with Lea. Lea confides in Jordan she doesn't want to know the baby's sex because she's afraid to hope and plan. As part of her support, Jordan offers her faith in a successful outcome. 

Lea develops complications and needs another surgery. The surgeons are almost forced to perform a hysterectomy to save her life. Shaun waits outside sitting on the floor. In a real show of community, all the surgeons, residents and nurses join him on the floor, being present and emotionally supportive. Lea and the baby both survive the surgery, and the entire medical staff is present to celebrate together. 

Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) is ready for the embryo implantation phase of IVF. Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) wants to be supportive, but Reznick says she is doing this alone and they need boundaries. 

She and Dr. Park work a case of a teen boy dealing with a lifelong illness. The patient is enduring surgery to extend his life because he wants to keep his mother from being alone as long as possible. Reznick says the decision to stop fighting is his only, but he insists he wants to be there for his mother. His response helps Dr. Reznick to understand and appreciate the power of community and being there for loved ones. Prior to the surgery, the patient's mom assures him she loves him and that she'll be fine regardless of the outcome. Dr. Parker also tells Dr Reznick that while insisting on going through the IVF process by herself isn't sad, accepting help and support doesn't make her situation sad either. 

After experiencing the support of the entire hospital after Lea's successful surgery, Dr. Lim makes a decision about her romantic future. Her relationship and the connection is very important to her but she needs to move at her own pace. She asks her boyfriend to move in and he accepts. 

Dr. Glassman drives Reznick to her implantation appointment. While maintaining boundaries with Dr. Parker, she accepts help from Dr Glassman so that she still has support and community. 

Sean and Lea decide on paint colors for the bedroom walls of their baby boy, hopeful for the future.

Fans of The Good Doctor had mixed feelings about everything that transpired in The Good Doctor season 5 finale. On the one hand, Shaun and Lea got married in a surprise ceremony thrown by their colleagues at the hospital. On the other, the season ended on a major cliffhanger that had fans worried about what happened to Dr. Lim and Nurse Villaneuva.

Now that The Good Doctor season 6 has debuted, we finally have key answers to that question. Let’s dive in.

What happened in The Good Doctor season 5 finale?

After suffering abuse from her boyfriend, Nurse Dalisay Villaneuva (Elfina Luk) began living with Dr. Audrey Lim (Christina Chang) so she can be safe. As Villaneuva was trying to get herself back on her feet so she could move out on her own, Dr. Lim assured her she can stay as long as she needs to.

Cut to the final moments of the finale. Dr. Lim leaves the wedding reception to go get a few more glasses from the hospital. However, she slips and falls on what turns out to be a pool of Villaneuva’s blood. She quickly tries to put pressure on Villaneuva’s wounds, but Villaneuva’s abusive ex, Owen (Terry Chen), leaps out and stabs her as well. The episode ends with the two lying there without anyone available to help them as the staff was dancing away upstairs and unable to hear.

Did Dr. Lim die on The Good Doctor?

Though the situation at the end of season 5 looked very bleak, as we learned in The Good Doctor season 6 premiere, both Dr. Lim and Nurse Villaneuva survived the initial stabbing. But they were not out of the woods yet.

Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) gets a call from Dr. Lim in the opening moments of the episode, but is unable to hear her and she doesn’t pick up when he calls back. He then sees Owen, dressed as hospital staff but bleeding, have an encounter with hospital security, at which point the hospital is put on lockdown. Shaun (Freddie Highmore) is then informed that Dr. Lim and Villaneuva may be in trouble and he, Lea (Paige Spara) and Dr. Allen (Bria Henderson) go to find her. They find them stabbed and passed out from their injuries.

They are able to transport both to the OR for treatment. Shaun and Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) disagree on the best way to treat Dr. Lim, with Glassman wanting to remove parts of her damaged liver and Shaun wanting to perform a different technique, but one that could require a blood transfusion if things go wrong (something not easily available with the lockdown). Shaun ultimately goes against Glassman’s order and performs his technique, which proves successful. Nurse Villaneuva also survives her injuries.

Unfortunately, when Dr. Lim wakes up, there are further complications that require a second surgery. Shaun once again operates on Dr. Lim, but this time he has a panic attack and Dr. Lim starts to go into heart failure. However, with the help of Lea and thinking of his brother, Shaun is able to complete the surgery successfully. Dr. Lim survives, but tragically she is paralyzed as a result of both surgeries, which some think may not have happened had Shaun followed Dr. Glassman’s orders.

Dr. Lim returned to the hospital after 14 weeks of recovery, however, she is still paralyzed. As we see in The Good Doctor season 6 episode 5, she is still struggling to adjust to her new life. She has a date with a neighbor and while he is great about making things work when the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible, it turns out that Dr. Lim was wrong and the neighbor didn't see this as a date. While frustrated with her situation, Dr. Lim is told that it'll take time to adjust to her new circumstances.

The Good Doctor season 6 episode 6 shows some of those frustrations starting to melt. Dr. Lim plays basketball with others who are in wheelchairs and does well. This helps inspire her to try more things she didn't think she could do, including play tennis.

As thing progress through the season, Dr. Lim is getting more comfortable with her situation, including starting a relationship with someone who doesn't see an issue with her paralysis. However, the paralysis may not be permanent.

In The Good Doctor season 6 episode 8, Dr. Glassman notices key signs that indicate it can be possible that Dr. Lim can walk again.

That plotline is followed up the next episode, with Shaun, Dr. Glassman and Dr. Andrews developing a plan for surgery to cure Dr. Lim's paralysis. However, with things going well with her new boyfriend (who is also in a wheelchair), she is nervous about how regaining the ability to walk could impact her life. It's her boyfriend, though, who convinces her that she should do the surgery and that it won't have an effect on their relationship; he even proposes, not to pressure Dr. Lim, but to show that he is committed.

Dr. Lim opts to have the surgery, but we don't see whether it is a success or not in The Good Doctor season 6 episode 9 and episode 10 it is revealed that it was a success and she is starting to walk again.

As she focuses on her continued recovery though, she hesitates to give her boyfriend an answer to his proposal. Ultimately, she decides to ask him to move in rather than agree to getting married. He accepts.

As season 6 progresses, Dr. Lim is getting back into the swing of things at the hospital, but it is not all easy going. In episode 19, she gets into an argument with Dr. Andrews about the best method of surgery for a patient, with Andrews hesitant to trust Dr. Lim's judgment. When she proves to be right, he tries to apologize, but Dr. Lim tells him that he either needs to have confidence in her decision making or fire her.

Is Shaun to blame for Dr. Lim's surgery?

Back at the hospital, Dr. Lim is making it a mission to figure out what went wrong with her surgery. She gets the medical report so she can do her own investigation, which leads to her believing that Shaun made a mistake that resulted in her paralysis. This leads her to getting into an argument with Shaun, blaming him for her current physical condition.

As we see in The Good Doctor season 6 episode 5, Dr. Glassman also holds Shaun responsible for what happened to Dr. Lim and is also upset that he hasn't apologize to her for what happened. But he assures Shaun that he still loves him and they work together to try and present a possible remedy for Dr. Lim. Surprisingly, at this time, she refuses.

Shaun once again tries to mend things with Dr. Lim in The Good Doctor season 6 episode 8. He eventually reveals to her that when operating on her, he was thinking of his brother and didn't want to lose her too, so he prioritized saving her life over any potential consequences. He tells her that he misses her. Upon hearing this, she admits that she misses Shaun too.

The Good Doctor season 6 winter finale is all about seeing and appreciating people and things the way they are without trying to fix or change them. 

Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) have started visiting open houses as a new hobby, even though they're not looking to buy. Lea falls in love with a fixer upper but Shaun isn't interested in the chaos involved in a house renovation. Shaun shares his concerns with Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff), who suggests Lea is probably looking for a distraction from not being able to get pregnant right now. He also reminds Shaun that his new rating system for residents was probably his way of distracting himself from their temporary roadblock to having kids. 

Shaun gets Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) to assign Lea a new work project, with the hope she'll change her mind about buying the house. Lea finds out and calls out Shaun. He relents about the house purchase but Lea tells him that she wants their first home to be something they both want.

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and her new beau are getting serious, planning a road trip together. He finds out that Dr. Lim used to ride motorcycles and asks her if she misses it. His queries into her previous lifestyle is timely, as Shaun, Dr. Glassman and Dr. Andrews share their findings of a surgical option that could reverse her paralysis. 

Dr. Lim is hesitant not because she doesn't want to walk again, but out of fear of losing her newfound life she has grown to love. She worries how regaining the ability to walk could potentially change her relationship with her wheelchair-bound boyfriend. He assures her nothing will change and implores her not to refuse the surgery because of him. He proposes to Dr. Lim before her surgery, telling her that she can wait to give him an answer. He just wants her to know he's committed. 

Jordan (Brian Henderson) confronts Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) about the shared kiss, letting him know that she needs clarity. Daniel invites her over to his house for a home-cooked dinner. Meanwhile, Asher (Noah Galvin) tells Jordan about a guy he met that he wants her to date. She tries to deflect but ultimately shares with Asher that she and Daniel kissed. Asher is worried and advises her to be careful. 

A young man working on weight loss comes into the ER with a head injury. Shaun, Danica (Savannah Welch) and Daniel treat him, discovering he needs surgery. Daniel mentions that he hopes the patient is losing weight for the right reasons. 

When the patient has complications with his heart, the team discovers an underlying case of bulimia is causing his problems. Daniel helps the patient explain to his brother, his personal training coach, how his opinion of him contributes to his eating disorder, causing a rift between the brothers. The patient collapses in the bathroom, which results in even more surgery. The brother returns after the surgery, finally realizing how much his actions affected his older brother. They leave the hospital with a plan of working on their relationship. 

Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) has started dating someone else. Unfortunately, she has a nose bleed and a bout of dizziness during a kickboxing session. He takes her to the ER for treatment, where things get awkward when Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) joins the care team. Dr. Reznick goes out of her way to encourage the new relationship, even sending the patient flowers from Dr. Park. When Dr. Park confronts her about it, she confesses she worries they're falling into a pattern that will lead to the two of them rekindling their affair. She reminds him that he said she's not what he wants and that she hasn't changed. She thinks that if Dr. Park moves on to a new relationship, there's less of a chance of them getting back together. 

The episode ends with some major developments. Jordan finds Daniel on the floor at home, overdosed. Lea's CT scan is abruptly cancelled, with the technician telling her she's pregnant. She races to tell Shaun, worried about the risk involved with her carrying a pregnancy with her condition.

Why did Daniel start using drugs again? Will Dr. Lim's surgery be successful? Will Leah's pregnancy have complications? Will Dr. Park and Dr. Reznick give their relationship another try? Here are the series regulars expected to return for The Good Doctor season 6:

Freddie Highmore plays Dr. Shaun Murphy. Highmore was previously Empire Award’s Most Promising Newcomer and is a double SAG nominee as well as twice winner of the Film Critics’ award for the world’s Best Young Actor. His notable credits include Two Brothers, Women Talking Dirty, Five Children and It, Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, A Good Year, Arthur and the Invisibles trilogy, August Rush, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Toast, The Art of Getting By, Bates Motel, Close to the Enemy, The Journey, Way Down and Leonardo.

Richard Schiff, who plays Dr. Aaron Glassman, can be recognized for his work in Ballers, House of Lies, Clemency, The Affair and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The actor is best known for his role in The West Wing, for which he received the Best Supporting Actor Emmy Award and garnered a total of three Emmy nominations.

Paige Spara, Lea in the show. The Good Doctor is Spara's breakout role, though she has also appeared in Kevin from Work. 

Christina Chang plays Dr. Audrey Lim. Chang has recurred and guested on many notable shows, such as Nashville, Desperate Housewives, 24 and Rizzoli & Isles. The actress has also appeared in the feature films Random Hearts, 28 Days, Deadline and Girls Club.

Fiona Gubelmann, Dr. Morgan Reznick, is well known for her breakout role on the critically acclaimed FX series Wilfred. She can also be seen in Mad Men, New Girl, Modern Family, The League and Parenthood. The actress has had lead roles in multiple Hallmark films, such as Christmas Next Door as well as Royally Ever After.

Playing Dr. Alex Park, Will Yun Lee’s television credits include Altered Carbon, Falling Water, Hawaii Five-0, Strike Back and True Blood. On the feature side, the actor was in the Rogue Warfare trilogy, Wish Dragon, Rampage, San Andreas, Spy, The Wolverine, Red Dawn, and Total Recall.

While an official trailer for the new season wasn't shared, The Good Doctor fans did get an official poster for the new season and Highmore teased a little for fans at the Disney 2022 Upfront.

Is there going to be The Good Doctor season 7?

More of The Good Doctor is on the way, as ABC has officially renewed the medical drama for season 7. This means that ABC's 2023 fall TV lineup is going to include The Good Doctor and its spinoff show The Good Lawyer, though we don't have schedule info for the shows at this time.

There's an intricate exploration about working through painful and traumatic emotions and events in The Good Doctor episode "Sorry, Not Sorry." There's also discussion about responding to and recovering from sexual assault. 

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) is finally in a relationship where she appears happy. She however hasn't forgiven Shaun (Freddie Highmore) yet for performing the surgery that caused her paralysis and harbors some resentment. When Shaun seeks out her help for a surgical consultation for a patient that had a surgical towel mistakenly left in them, causing sepsis, she rebuffs him and his attempts to mend their situation.

As far as how the towel was left in the patient's body, her wife was a nurse during the procedure and so she blames her for not taking enough care. Medical complications require a complete hysterectomy. The patient is unconscious so the decision falls to the wife, who agonizes over the decision since she knows her partner wants to carry a pregnancy. Shaun sees the parallel between their relationship and his with Dr. Lim. A decision is needed with the option being saving a life or depriving a loved one of something important to them.

Jordan (Bria Henderson) and Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) have decided to be friends, spending lots of time together, even sleepovers while working. Asher (Noah Galvin) warns her that Daniel may be stringing her along to keep her present in his life while not fulfilling her needs and worrying Jordan may be settling. Jordan brings it up with Daniel, who responds in a non-committal and evasive manner, further confusing Jordan. After their patient's successful surgery, Jordan decides to leave Daniel. But when he kisses her, it leaves her even more confused and invested.

Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) takes on the surgery of a teen girl dealing with facial malformations. She's hesitant about getting the surgery because she doesn't want scars and to shave her hair. Dr. Andrews explains his procedure to avoid this and she agrees. He later tries to hand the surgery off to another doctor because of a conflict in his schedule. His head nurse refuses, saying the patient trusts him and that he has to tell her in person why he can no longer perform her surgery. He threatens to use a different nurse going forward but the nurse tells him about the impact his personal attention made in her own recovery from surgery. Dr. Andrews relents, doing the surgery himself and even braiding his patient's hair post-op. The experience reminds him of why he went into medicine and he thanks the nurse for the nudge.

Elsewhere, a disoriented patient suffering from physical trauma wanders into the ER. Her care team comprises Dr. Alex Park (Will Yun Lee), Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann), Jordan and Daniel. As a recovering addict, Daniel interprets her pupil dilation and loss of memory for drug use. Dr. Reznick reprimands him, advising he wait for the results of a tox screen. Initial examination by Jordan reveals extensive bruising across her body but the patient doesn't remember how she got them. After scans, Dr. Park realizes she needs emergency surgery and during cathether placement, Jordan discovers extensive pelvic trauma and bruising, which may indicate rape. 

Shaun goes to Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) for a surgical consultation about the sepsis patient. Noting the irregularity of the consult, he asks Shaun why he didn't speak with Dr. Lim. Shaun's response reveals how much he's struggling with being estranged from her. Dr. Glassman joins the operation at Shaun’s request, where he observes how Shaun pauses before doing the hysterectomy — even after getting approval and knowing that it's needed to save the patient's life. Dr. Glassman encourages Shaun to speak with Dr. Lim so they both can resolve their concerns and feelings. 

The sexual assault survivor needs a second surgery, which the care team discovers when she has an nervous episode as pieces of the memory of her assault come back. Dr. Reznick tries to convince her to do the rape kit before the surgery, but the patient asks to have her removed from the case. Dr. Reznick goes to the patient, apologizes for pressuring her, then shares her own story of sexual assault and regret about not trying to hold her attacker accountable. The patient agrees to the rape kit, with Dr. Reznick by her side through the entire invasive and traumatic procedure. 

The episode concludes with the doctors working through emotional minefields that they're living with. Shaun witnesses how his patient's wife acknowledges her decision to do the surgery hurt but that she prioritized saving her life, preferring to have her alive even if it meant not being in her life. Shaun learns from this, explaining to Dr. Lim he saw his own brother when he was supposed to operate on her and that he was afraid of losing her. He didn't know the consequences but prioritized saving her life. He also admits that he misses her. Dr. Lim acknowledges still being angry but that she misses him too. 

Dr. Lim visits Dr. Glassman to thank him for interceding with her and Shaun. Dr. Glassman observes critical movement that may indicate that Dr. Lim may walk again, sharing this with Shaun.

New episodes of The Good Doctor season 6 air on Mondays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC, streaming next day on Hulu.

In this latest episode of The Good Doctor season 6, the emotions around creating a family — all the joy and challenges involved — take center stage.

Lea (Paige Spara) is excited about trying to have a baby again after having a miscarriage a year earlier at 22 weeks. So much so that she and Shaun (Freddie Highmore) openly talk about ovulation and sperm motility while placing an ovulation calendar on their refrigerator. 

At the hospital, Dr. Andrews' (Hill Harper) ex-wife brings him a case of a mother pregnant with sextuplets after one round of IVF. It's an extremely risky case with two of the babies requiring surgery almost immediately after birth and the other four in neonatal care because of their preterm low birth weight and underdeveloped lungs.

The all hands on deck case brings to the forefront all of the doctors thoughts about starting a family and with such a high risk case, pushes the boundary on what medicine is capable of and at what point do you let hope take over.

Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) and Danica (Savannah Welch) work on a baby that needed surgery while partially in utero to clear her airway. They multitask, also discussing Dr. Lim's dating prospects. Danica confides that she too was hesitant to explore an intimate relationship after her leg was amputated. Dr. Lim decides to give things another go with an impromptu lunch date with another wheelchair bound doctor. When their infant patient develops complications and is too sick for diagnostic testing, the date turns out to have double benefits — a first kiss with a man who's clearly interested and a possible diagnosis for the baby. The diagnosis is correct and they're able to save the baby.

Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) and Jordan (Bria Henderson) work on one of the sicker babies. The baby has spina bifida and also develops lung issues. Dr. Glassman insists it's a lost cause and Jordan volunteers to give the parents the bad news. The new parents refuse to give up, forcing Jordan to think outside of the box, dragging a reluctant Dr. Glassman along with her. Ultimately they literally "sleep on it," arriving on a surgical solution that saves the baby's life.

Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) and Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) also work together on two babies who Dr. Andrews insisted on being co-bed. As they bicker about the treatment plans, Dr. Park discovers Dr. Reznick is searching for a sperm donor. He advises her about the disadvantages of going that route to have a baby but offers to do it himself. Dr. Reznick declines, sharing it would be too painful raising his child without him. They agree to a truce, with him helping her select a donor, all while saving the lives of their two infant patients. 

During the ob/gyn exam, Lea and Shaun discover Lea has scar tissue after the miscarriage. She's diagnosed with Asherman syndrome, which results in less space in the uterus as a result of scar tissue. They're forced to confront the prospect that Lea may never be able to carry a child. Lea is devastated. Shaun returns to his neonatal case, welcoming the distraction, discovering that the baby needs surgery. Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) makes an unintentional error during the surgery that could potentially harm the baby, but fortunately the baby fully recovers.

Asher (Noah Galvin) and his boyfriend are in charge of one of the preemies who only needs constant monitoring. During the process, the boyfriend realizes that Asher may not want kids while he wants a big family. The baby develops breathing issues and Asher hurries to intervene. The boyfriend gently picks up the baby, singing softly and the baby's breathing returns to normal. Seeing his boyfriend in paternal mode changes Asher's perspective and he softens his stance on having kids, opening himself up to the possibility in the future.

The team successfully saves the lives of all six babies, to the eternal gratitude of the parents. They even name the baby with the spinal issue Erin Jordan, after Dr. Glassman and Jordan who saved her life.

Dr. Andrews’ ex-wife thanks him for taking the case. She apologizes for cheating and giving up on the marriage. Dr. Andrews admits she wasn't solely to be blamed. She shares that couples sometimes grow apart and get reconnected, to which Dr. Andrews agrees.

After this baby-centric episode, will Shaun and Lea take a new route to having a baby? How will Dr. Lim's new relationship develop? Will Dr. Andrews rekindle the fire with his ex-wife?

The Good Doctor episode "Hot and Bothered" is all about accepting yourself and others for who they are and seeing the value of life at all stages. This includes Dr. Lim (Christina Chang), who is still trying to accept that being wheelchair bound doesn't make her sick. Dr. Danica (Savannah Welch) reminds her that while she may be physically challenged, she is still a whole and healthy woman. She invites her to a basketball game with wheelchair bound players. After her initial reluctance, Lim joins the game and makes the winning shot. One of the players shares that playing with other wheelchair bound persons helps to see herself as a whole functional person and not someone to be pitied. Lim seems to accept and says she'll stop physical therapy. 

It’s over 100 degrees in San Diego, which greatly impacts the hospital and its patients. The heat causes a black out and an entire senior home is evacuated to the hospital. The heat wave also affects the hospital's computer servers, causing a shutdown and the backup to kick in. As Lea (Paige Spara) works to fix it, Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) has no choice but to put the hospital on bypass as they struggle to provide care for existing patients. 

Dr. Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and Dr. Danica are experiencing friction after Shaun discovers she advised Dr. Lim to take more time before deciding to do the spinal surgery. But they both have to work together on a patient who comes into the ER with a rare condition. Shaun openly disparages Danica in front of the patient, passing it off as her being inexperienced. He also tells Lea he doesn't like Danica, but neglects to mention his core issue is about her giving advice to Lim about delaying surgery. 

He takes her off the case until the patient insists she be put back on to challenge him, believing it's the best way to achieve a positive outcome. Shaun relents but refuses to take her suggestions. Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) recommends he try to find common ground with Danica, but his stubbornness won’t allow for that. Danica stands up to him during the surgery, challenging him to listen to her, even if he may think she is wrong, so that he can build on her idea. She also calls him out on accepting her as an "other", saying that being autistic, he should understand this better than most people.

Interns Jordan (Bria Samoné Henderson) and Daniel (Brandon Larracuente), take care of a senior who's body temperature gets so high that it permanently damages her organs, making her terminal. Daniel has difficulty accepting her imminent death. The patient shares how she feels she missed out on life, especially a trip to France, because she was waiting for her husband to get better. In the end, Jordan helps both the patient and Daniel get through the experience by giving the patient a VR trip to Paris while Daniel holds her hand during her final moments, giving her some peace.

Another emergency happens with one of the retirement home residents, who codes and is resuscitated. Subsequent imaging reveals advanced cancer that requires extensive surgery. Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) advises the patient against it, but she insists and wants a second opinion if he won't perform the surgery. She communicates all this with a smile and asks for more butterscotch pudding. Glassman reviews her case and explains the significant risks involved. She still wants to go ahead with the surgery. Glassman explains to Park that the decision is the patient's.

During the procedure, they have to remove the kidney, requiring dialysis for the rest of the patient's life. Dr. Park wants to stop and close up, preferring to give the patient a few good months rather than the possibility of years on dialysis. He shares his experience of a family member living for years in pain after a complicated surgery to save their life, instead of months of palliative care. Glassman simply replies "butterscotch." He explains that for some people, experiencing the good in life with loved ones mitigates against pain and hurt, so they prefer to wring every last drop out of life.

Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelman) and Asher (Noah Galvin) lose a senior patient, looking for him on the streets. Initially, they take the wrong patient back to the hospital, but ultimately find out that the man they found was also wandering in the heat. He would have died if they hadn't found him. Working with seniors and their families all day brings a confession out of Reznick: her fear of being alone isn't about having a partner, it’s not being able to have kids.

The episode ends with everyone coming to some degree of acceptance. Shaun and Danica discover their common love for medieval surgery and share surgery facts, deciding to accept each other. Lim expresses playing tennis on Saturday mornings, seeing her new life and body through renewed eyes. Daniel accepts not all patients' lives can be saved, but treating them with dignity matters. Park realizes that life may not be perfect or pain-free, but it’s important to focus on the good. Perspective makes all the difference.

"Growth Opportunities" opens with Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) looking to help fix things after what happened with Dr. Lim (Christina Chang). He presents a theory that Dr. Lim isn’t paralyzed, but has a deformity of the spine. However, his initial surgery plan is discarded by Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) as being too risky. Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) counters by telling Sean to find a safer option. Dr Lim agrees. 

However, when Shaun presents a safer surgical plan to Glassman, he rejects this plan too. Glassman says the plan not only has to be safer, it needs to increase the chances of fixing Dr. Lim’s paralysis. When Sean questions Glassman’s anger toward him, Glassman reveals he’s angry because Sean refuses to apologize to Lim and accept any responsibility for her condition.

After Lea comes to Shaun’s defense, she helps convince Glassman to assure Shaun that no matter how upset he is about Dr. Lim, that he will never stop loving him and that while he still has concerns about the surgery, there is one plan that may have potential.

Working together, Shaun and Glassman come up with a plan that gets the approval of Dr. Andrews, but ultimately the decision is up to Dr. Lim. In a surprise, she opts not to go through with the surgery. Shaun is confused by her not wanting the surgery, but in talking with Lea she assures him that even though it didn’t work out like he had hoped, the important thing is that he tried to help.

Dr. Lim, meanwhile, continues to learn how to live with her paralysis. This includes trying to get ready for a date with her neighbor. While trying to select an outfit with Dr. Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann), she voices her frustration of how her new situation is redefining her life. Reznick says that she should embrace the positive, like having a great guy come into her life (which has a bit of extra weight as she recently lost someone).

The date starts off well when he works with restaurant staff to set up a table in the courtyard after realizing the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. However, when he pulls back as Lim moves in for a kiss, she realizes that he did not see this as a date. Dr. Danica (Savannah Welch) tells her that she needs to take time to adjust to her new life,

This episode was also Halloween-themed, which brought some unusual cases into the ER. First, a young girl arrives after having fainting spells, however, after running some tests, Dr. Asher (Noah Galvin) realizes that the patient’s dad isn’t her biological father, which he believes neither the father or daughter know. They learn that the biological father is an old friend from college who was also unaware of this relationship; he does not take the news well. When the girl is diagnosed with needing an organ transplant and her biological father is the only match, he at first says no, not wanting to disrupt his own family life. However, when he is shown that his daughter shares some of his musical talent, he agrees to help her. The two meet for the first time after a successful surgery.

Dr. Park (Will Yun Lee) takes on a case involving two brothers. While the younger brother experienced a traumatic brain injury, Dr. Park observes that the older brother was having pains too and orders tests. This reveals that the older brother has Stage 3 pancreatic cancer and that he may only have eight months to live. Dr. Park explains to him the Whipple surgery (removing parts of the bile ducts, gallbladder, pancreas and intestines), but it only has a small chance of success. The older brother wants to do it so he can be there for this younger brother. Unfortunately, they soon learn that the cancer has metastasized. 

Worried about his younger brother going to a group home, the intern Daniel (Brandon Larracuente) tells him how he had a brother who suffered from a drug addiction and was cut off by his family (on the advice that it may be the only way to help him). Daniel’s brother pushed through and has been sober for five years, so he believes that the patient’s younger brother can do the same. When the older brother tells his younger brother of his terminal diagnosis, the younger brother shows strength and says he has his brother’s back.

Speaking of Daniel, things are still awkward with Dr. Jordan (Bria Henderson) since their kiss as he declines her invitation to Halloween plans. Daniel thinks it was a mistake kissing her, that it’s a line he can’t cross, but that he wants to be friends. Later, Jordan asks Daniel about the story of his addicted brother, to which Daniel reveals that he was actually speaking about himself and that six months ago he had a setback, buying heroin buy flushing it before he used it. He says that his first priority is staying sober and second is becoming a surgeon, so he doesn’t have time to date. Jordan agrees.

The episode ends with Shaun speaking to the two brothers about his experience losing a brother that he was close to. He admits that he doesn't know if it will help but he's going to try.

The Good Doctor season 6 episode 4 saw Dr. Shaun Murphy trying to adjust to Dr. Lim insisting on only a professional relationship with him. He tries to compensate with his relationship and connection with Dr. Glassman. Lea is worried about Shaun. She confides in Dr. Glassman. He rebuffs her outreach. Shaun requests his own office after Dr. Alex Park makes it clear that Shaun is not the only person who needs a comfortable workspace. 

The Chief of Surgery, Dr. Marcus Andrews, asks Dr. Glassman why Shaun came to him with a request for his own office. Dr. Glassman responded in a prickly manner indicating that just because he has a personal relationship with Shaun and Dr. Lim, doesn't mean he'll negotiate their professional relationship. Shaun relocated his office to a storage closet. Dr. Glassman confronts Shaun about accepting responsibility for his surgical decision causing Dr. Lim's paralysis. Shaun refuses and asks him to leave his makeshift office. 

Dr. Lim continues adjusting to being wheelchair-bound. She develops a connection with a neighbor in her building who invites him in for dinner after meeting him in the parking lot after work. The new friend who is obviously interested in Dr. Lim, invites her to dinner at a restaurant that Dr. Lim says she always wanted to try.

Dr. Alex Park has a one-night stand with a married realtor. Dr. Park and Dr. Morgan Reznick continue to bicker in the workplace. They disagree about treatment for an ER patient whose foot was severed during a boating incident. Interns, Jordan and Daniel, are tasked with preparing the severed foot for surgery if it's found. The patient confides in Dr. Park about his relationship challenges. 

Dr. Park details his own failed relationships and encourages his patient to keep trying. Jordan and Daniel sit on the beach waiting for the recovery of the severed foot and also get to know each other. Their casual flirtation blossoms as they learn more about each other's likes, dislikes and family. Excessive bleeding of the severed foot necessitates an emergency repair that will not allow for reattachment. 

Divers find the foot and interns race against time, prepping the foot en route to the hospital for surgery. They arrive in the nick of time and proceed. Complications arise during surgery, but the foot is successfully reattached. Jordan and Daniel return to the beach and finally act on their attraction, sharing a brief kiss. Daniel retreats and apologizes, leaving Jordan feeling stunned and rejected. 

Dr. Asher Wolke works with former Navy service member Dr. Danica, an ER patient admitted with a wound from playing with explosive fireworks. He is interested in her military service and continues to ask her questions during a procedure overseen by Dr. Murphy. An explosion from undetonated shrapnel during the procedure causes some emergency bleeding which they were able to control. 

Dr. Danica comes across as a bit cold and unfeeling with the patient who got injured play-acting military scenarios. Test results reveal multiple nerve problems that require amputation. Dr. Murphy rejects this treatment plan and tasks some interns with finding an alternative. Interns Asher and Danni mull Murphy’s decision over, with Asher continuing his questioning of Danni’s Navy service. Asher wants to know if she joined for free education or wanted to travel. Danni takes offense to his line of questioning. He says he's not judging her, just impressed. She thinks his impression is linked to discovering she is an amputee. 

Dr. Murphy proposes a solution for the extensive nerve damage. Asher and Danni worry about the risk of extensive bleeding but Dr. Murphy moves forward. The surgery is a success and the patient avoids amputation and with extensive rehabilitation should regain full use of the arm. Asher apologizes to Danni. He explains that his upbringing makes him ignorant and somewhat judgmental. Danni shares that she tore her ACL playing soccer which ended her dream of playing Division I soccer. She entered the Navy because of the free tuition and has since realized that it's the best decision she ever made. 

The show culminates with Shaun leaving his bed with Lea late at night, heading to Dr. Glassman’s house after having an epiphany about how to fix Dr. Lim's paralysis. 

The Good Doctor season 6 continues on Monday, October 31 at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC.

What is the plot of The Good Doctor?

The Good Doctor is about Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young medical savant who also has autism. His gift sees him recruited into the surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. In addition to solving medical emergencies, the show also highlights Shaun’s growth as a young man and the lives of his coworkers.

SPOILER ALERT. At the end of season 4, Shaun took a big step as he accepted Lea’s proposal and the two are now engaged. The other major development was that Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas), who has been with the show since the beginning, decided to accept a position at a rural hospital in Guatemala, ending her arc on the show.

Elsewhere in the plot, Morgan and Park shared their feelings for each other; Dr. Marcus Andrews revealed that his wife has left him; and Dr. Mateo Rendon Osma has decided to return to the U.S. to be with Dr. Audrey Lim, though he’ll first have to deal with a decades-old warrant for his arrest.

“Shaun and Lea's upcoming engagement party has everyone in a festive mood after their return from Guatemala. Meanwhile, a young single mother learns her son may have contracted his cancer from a surprising source, and Mateo finds out if his previous issues in America will be resolved.”

Freddie Highmore on how the hospital deals with the pandemic

"It is certainly a struggle for Shaun because it’s a complete unknown. Shaun has so much knowledge and has learned so much from his text books but then he’s faced with something that nobody knew anything about and has to learn on his feet, so it’s tricky for Shaun at the beginning. But the first two episodes track the pandemic over a period of months showing how, as things change and we learn more about this virus, everyone is responding to it."

Freddie on the impact the pandemic has on Shaun’s relationship with Lea (Paige Spara)

“What was exciting to explore in season three was those early stages of love. But season four is about the more deeper, more nuanced flavours of a relationship that will develop over time. When they’re dealing with the repercussions of trying to keep their distance and not being able to be together during the pandemic because of the nature of Shaun’s job, that proves challenging. But I’m excited to see their relationship grow and to see what it means for Shaun to be with someone long term rather than in that first initial throes of love.”

Freddie on wanting to honour real-life frontline medics in The Good Doctor

“The most important thing for all of us was to pay tribute to the real life health care professionals who have been heroic in the face of such trauma. It’s put into perspective how as actors we’re just playing doctors on television and that means nothing compared to what people are really doing out there every day. It would have felt wrong and we would have been shirking a sense of responsibility to them to not want to portray that on television.”

Freddie on the precautions taken during filming

FH: “We are all tested three times a week, we’re wearing masks as much as possible, everyone is keeping their distance, the set itself feels like a quieter place, the camera operators are working remotely from outside the room on a crane. So it does feel different but it should feel different. We all feel like the set is a safe place to be and we feel lucky to be able to go back to work and tell these stories.” 

Freddie on Shaun becoming a mentor to a new group of young trainees this season

“It’s difficult for Shaun. For the first time he has to take responsibility for other people. He’s going to be a boss, there are younger residents coming in who he’s going to have to take under his wing. He’s good when it comes to imparting medical knowledge and insight. Where he will struggle are the more personal aspects of the job and the inevitable moment when one of his younger residents does something wrong. How will Shaun react? It’s exciting to explore both those deeper emotional moments and also the humour that will come from seeing Shaun in a position of authority and telling people what to do!” 

Freddie on The Good Doctor’s success

"It deals with those most elemental things that all humans go through inevitably, which is living, giving birth and passing away, so everyone is able to connect to that. But I’d also like to think that the characters draw you in. Shaun has a different viewpoint on the world. He’s the reverse of House who was cynical and perhaps what people needed when they were going through more optimistic times. Now we’ve moved towards a space where we’re looking for someone who offers more hope and sees the good in people.”

Freddie on how playing a character with autism has changed him

“I feel very lucky to be able to play Shaun and that responsibility is not something that I take lightly. As a Brit I think we have a natural tendency towards cynicism and Shaun is the opposite of that. I see the world slightly more optimistically now because of spending time with Shaun and getting to play him.”
