Ever since The Night Agent ended, I've been looking forward to season 2. But I was watching loads of other shows when season 2 finally dropped on Netflix, so I thought I'd wait a while to make sure it got my full attention. I envisaged, like the first series, rapidly bingeing the latest adventures of spy Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso). But OMG season 2 is a turgid watch!

Never mind bingeing the second series, I feel like I'm ploughing through syrup and I've just about staggered to episode 6 in the hope it might finally get exciting. It hasn’t! How has The Night Agent, the biggest show of 2023 for Netflix, turned into something so slow and tedious?

Missing tension

Well, firstly, The Night Agent season 2 lacks tension. The first series belted along as Peter races across America trying to uncover a giant conspiracy at the top of the government while protecting tech whizz Rose (Luciane Buchanan), whose aunt and uncle have been murdered.

It reminded me of the first season of 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland. Peter was the new Jack Bauer.

Every episode, you felt time was running out, and you wanted Peter and Rose to succeed as they were chased about by a pair of hilarious assassins. And boy do I miss the killer couple Ellen and Dale from series one. At times, they stole the show, amusingly finding time to go house hunting in between psychotically chasing Peter and Rose. I’m not entirely sure if they were meant to be funny, but they were, and they gave the first series moments of light relief. Season 2 has none of that sense of humor.

We don't need Rose

There's no real sense of Peter and Rose being chased this time. We also don't need the character of Rose. Her story drove the original, but in season 2, she doesn't need to be there.

Indeed, her character keeps moaning that she doesn’t really need to be here and maybe she should just go home! We agree, Rose. This isn't fun. Go home, earn loads of money from being a top programmer and you’ll also get shot at a lot less.

Foxglove and the crazy plot

I can't even begin to explain the plot. Every so often, Catherine (Amanda Warren), Peter's new Night Action boss, will attempt to explain what's going on but it's so complicated I'm beyond caring. Peter will then look menacingly at the camera and knowingly say the word "Foxglove".

It started off promisingly with Peter losing his co-agent in Thailand in episode one, an episode with actual tension. OK, I’ll give the plot a go — so Foxglove is some kind of chemical weapons program, which some mole is leaking. Also involved are people trying to sell intelligence and an incredibly boring character whose dad is a war criminal. And then there's the Iranian embassy…

The Iranian connection

Another major issue is that a huge number of scenes take place in the Iranian embassy, where we meet Noor, a low-level aide aiming to leak intel to Peter in return for getting her family out of Iran. So we get scene after scene of Noor (Arienne Mandi) looking furtive as she tries to pull the wool over the eyes of the security man she flirts with.

This leads to another problem with the series: it doesn’t make any sense! She's acting so suspiciously the whole time even the most inept security team would spot something's up. She is somehow able to keep sneaking off to meet Peter, Rose, and Catherine with no one noticing!

Then you start thinking back, and so much more of the series makes no sense. There's a period where the US intelligence services are finding it impossible to discover Peter's location. Where is he? Well, he's playing basketball with a kid in the middle of New York! Seriously, you can't find him!

Also, if you ever want to find secret agents, just go to a scenic part of New York they are bound to be there! Most TV doesn't make too much sense when you pause to think, and it’s normally a clear sign you’ve become frustrated with a show when you start spotting all the things that don’t add up.

Is The Night Agent season 2 a bad show?

No. Gabriel Basso is still a great watch as Peter, and there are moments when it recaptures the enjoyment of the first series. It’s more of a disappointing series given just how good the original was. You have to hope the makers learn from this for The Night Agent season 3.

Here's a recap of everything that happened in The Night Agent season 2 episode 10.

The final episode starts eight years ago. The buyer is at an event, toasting a man called Anthony Ming as they open a new center with his name on it. A man approaches the buyer during drinks and says he knows the buyer is called Jacob Monroe, but what he doesn't know is why Jacob's name isn’t on the building, despite him paying for most of it. Jacob tells the man he won’t be giving him money, if that’s what he’s after, but instead suggests he’ll do some digging for him that could help him gain an advantage, and for that they could negotiate an exchange.

In the present day, a huge police presence arrives at the UN building. Deputy Director Mosley is informed that five men came in with official clearance to fix the HVAC, and that they’re still on the rooftop. He wants to make sure everyone is evacuated and sends men to the roof. As Peter, Catherine and Rose arrive, Mosley wants Rose on the monitors so she can ID Markus. Catherine is angry with Peter and says Solomon’s boss must have wanted something from Peter in exchange for Rose’s location. He says once this is all over, he’ll tell her the truth.

Up on the rooftop, Markus and his men are working on putting the canisters in, but they're disturbed by the police. Markus kills both of them. As the team on the ground hears the shots, they jump into action. When they arrive, Markus has disappeared, though he's dressed in one of the officer’s uniforms and has their comms and his team are now wearing suits. They run off with two remaining canisters of K.X.

As Peter and Catherine move around the building, Peter spots one of the men and Rose confirms that he’s one of Markus’s team. Meanwhile, Markus successfully escapes. Another of Markus’s team is then shot dead while holding one of the K.X. canisters. The last member of Markus’s team has been shot, but is still alive and they team up. As they move into a room, they find the French diplomat, the one Noor gave the files to, hiding. She pleads for her life and Markus turns on his own man, killing him, and then hiding the canister in her bag, pretending to be a police officer. More police enter the room and Markus manages to escape under his guise. Rose identifies the man dead on the floor as one of Markus’s team, but she asks to see the other officer's face. When she sees him, she confirms it’s Markus, but he's already escaped.

Markus successfully leaves the UN building with the K.X. and Noor’s files. They find the other 13 K.X. canisters on the roof, as well as the one from Markus's team, but know that one is still missing. Elsewhere, the buyer, who is now known as Jacob, puts the UN file from Peter into his safe. He gets a call telling him that Solomon has been killed. The bomb squad at the UN building successfully destroy the K.X. canisters they have in their possession, but Markus and the final one are still missing. After questioning one of Markus’s men, it's revealed that the canisters were going to release at midday, during the Security Council’s vote on how to divide Viktor Bala’s dominion into three separate countries.

Rose uses her AdVerse code to try and track down Markus. She’s only received two hits for Tomás, but links him to a man called George Simko, one of Viktor’s legal team. The second hit is Sloane, Tomás's girlfriend, pictured at the Wynnfield Hotel. They go to question Sloane on where Markus could be or where he’s going next.

At Sloane’s penthouse suite, Markus shows up. He says Tomás is safe, but that they all need to leave the country. He wants Sloane to get the jet ready, but she’s suspicious. Though she tries to refuse, Markus holds a gun to her. Peter and Rose arrive at the hotel to speak to Sloane. Before heading to the suite, Peter reveals to Rose what exactly he did to find her and they argue about protecting each other. Meanwhile, Markus has tied and gagged Sloane. He takes off her gag and she spits at him. When she screams, Peter hears and knocks on the door. She comes to answer while Markus holds a gun to her. She holds up her hand, without him seeing, signalling for help.

Peter and Rose go to alert the police, but Sloane grabs a vase and beats Markus. As she screams for help, Markus grabs her. Peter heads in to help, but a man comes out of the lift saying he’s fixing the hotel’s vent system that has messed up. Hearing this, Rose follows him and leaves Peter with Sloane. She finds the canister of K.X. has been hooked up to the hotel’s vents with the same trip wire that will trigger when it reaches maximum capacity. The man fixing it says that means they only have about eight minutes. Rose pulls the fire alarm to get people to evacuate. Then, she moves around behind the window where Markus is stood holding Sloane hostage. She holds a gun to him, while Peter holds one from the front. Markus says he'll cut Sloane's throat if he tries anything. Rose shoots the door which makes Markus drop Sloane and Peter shoots him dead. She tells Peter that the K.X. will release in six minutes, so they rush to evacuate everyone.

Catherine arrives and tells everyone to leave the hotel. She goes with the maintenance man to shut down the vent system, but she calls Peter as they can’t shut down the top four floors from the computer terminal. So, Peter has to do it manually by starting a fire to trigger it to automatically close. Rose insists she can help. They run upstairs and Rose checks the K.X. which shows they have less than a minute left to stop it. They throw sulfuric acid in with ethanol from cleaner supplies as Rose learned from Dr. Cole that this would start a fire. Just as the K.X. starts to release, the fire starts and the vents shut, trapping it inside.

Elsewhere, at The Hague, Viktor speaks to George Simko on the phone to see if his plan has gone ahead. He’s told of its failure. At the hotel, Peter says he’s going to turn himself in and admit what he’s done to Catherine, but he doesn’t know what that will mean for him. He wants Rose to promise him something first. He says because she means everything to him, that people will use her against him. He wants her to promise she won’t wait for him, look for him, and instead must forget about him. She agrees. After this, Catherine thanks Rose and takes Peter into custody.

The Night Agent season 2 ending explained

Deputy Director Mosley and Catherine question Peter in a filmed interrogation around everything that happened from the very beginning. Elsewhere, at an election event, Jacob arrives to meet with Governor Hagan. Hagan is revealed to be the man that he met at the event eight years ago. He hands him the UN file exposing the secretary general. Hagan says it’s the best thing he’s had over eight years and the three elections that they've worked together. As Hagan says it’s good work, Jacob says, “Let’s not forget who works for whom.”

As Hagan unpacks some boots, he begins to tell a story about how he became more popular in the polls when a journalist reported that they were his uncle's. But, he only brought them in a thrift store. His tale leads him to say that sometimes it’s better to let people believe what they want about you. Letting that land with Jacob, he leaves.

Elsewhere, Noor and her mother have been granted asylum, as well as a check from the US government to reimburse her for damages. Noor is upset about her brother’s death and that the government thinks he’s worth a number. She now works in a library and Rose comes to see her. She says that her mother is sad about Farhad. Rose tells her that she’s back at work, still going to therapy, and life is good. When asked about Peter, she says she doesn’t know, but that it’s better that way.

Catherine takes Peter out of his cell for a walk. She hands him a newspaper saying that Governor Knox has dropped out of the presidential race, just two weeks before the general election. It’s revealed that when he was director of the CIA, he authorized Foxglove and sold the weapons to Viktor Bala. An unknown source sent an audio file of Knox to the New York Times that revealed the truth, but while they were found years ago, they somehow never made it into evidence in court, until Peter retrieved the file for Jacob. Peter doesn’t understand Jacob's motives, but Catherine explains that Hagan is guaranteed to become President now meaning Jacob has a man in the White House making for a lot of opportunities to continue as an intelligence broker buying and selling information. Peter's actions to save thousands, but most importantly Rose, in fact helped swing the entire Presidential election.

Catherine reveals she has lied to Peter. She tells him she was tasked in Night Action to find the mole in the Pentagon breach and that led her to Peter’s father. She explains though that having Peter as his son made him change his mind and that he wanted Peter to know that he did whatever he could to make up for it. She says if he wants the same opportunity to right his wrongs, she’s assigning him a new mission.

With the new President-to-be working for Jacob, all secret intelligence is now in jeopardy of being sold to the highest bidder. She says because Jacob believes he owns Peter, when he calls asking for him to do a job, he has to do exactly as he says. Then, he’ll gain his trust and he can start exposing from the inside for as long as Catherine needs him to. Catherine tells him that the mission is even a secret from Night Action, but if he does it, he can have a clean slate. Peter says he’s in, so all he has to do now is wait for Jacob to call.

The penultimate episode begins ten months ago, Rose and Peter are holding hands and walking around Washington. It’s the day before he leaves for Night Action and she doesn’t want him to go, worrying that he’ll end up like her aunt and uncle, who were also night agents.

In the present day, Markus’s team are loading up canisters of the chemical agent to transport. Dr. Cole says he’s completed the batch, but they ask for more. Dr. Cole and Rose discuss how much devastation this would cause and Rose suggests that they mess with the next batch to make it inactive.

Elsewhere, Peter and Noor arrive at the UN building. She says that he should speak to a man called Lars who works for the Secretary General. As they head inside, Peter tells Noor to call Sami once she’s done and that he'll take her to her mother. At the Iranian mission, Abbas tells Javad what Noor has done, leaving with the files. Javad threatens Abbas and says he’s going to find Noor. Haleh is listening outside the door.

Noor hands the files over to the French diplomat, but Haleh calls her and warns her that Javad is coming. Meanwhile, Peter steals an ID card from IT on his way to the Secretary General so that he can gain access to the computer. There’s an election rally for Hagan outside the UN and Sami and Catherine arrive tracking Peter’s phone. As Peter tries to use the computer, Lars wants him to do an IT job on his laptop. Lars grows suspicious so Peter grabs him and demands to know where the file is and he’s told it’s down in the archives. Noor arrives at the rally to meet Sami, but Javad grabs her. She barges into someone to cause a fight between Javad and the men in the rally. As they begin to fight, Noor runs off. Fortunately, Sami finds her.

As Lars takes Peter to the archives, he tries to escape and alerts a guard. Peter fights him off and they head into the archives where Peter retrieves the UN file for Solomon's boss. As he leaves, Catherine spots him and starts chasing him, but as she’s doing so Solomon grabs her and takes her away. As he demands she get into the trunk of a car, she fights him off, kicking him into a broken pipe and kills him.

Back at the lab, Dr. Cole has changed the batch, but it’s a darker color. As Markus notices, he brings out Dr. Cole’s wife and stabs her in the stomach. He says if he makes a proper batch this time, he’ll be able to save her, but if he takes his time, she’ll die.

Javad goes back to the Iranian mission and gets a gun from his office. Abbas pulls him into his office for a chat and shows him video footage of him with Noor and asks what their relationship is. Javad says he was purely gathering information, but Abbas accuses Javad of help Noor, as well moving the list to his office for her. He gets his guards to restrain Javad. Javad angered says he’ll have Abbas hung for his accusations, but Abbas calls in witnesses; Haleh and Bijan. Defeated, Javad is told he's being sent back to Iran for his crimes.

Elsewhere, Noor is finally reunited with her mother. Meanwhile, Dr. Cole suggests that he makes a reaction that’ll kill them both, but destroy the K.X and the lab, too. Rose refuses. Instead, she suggests they make a chemical agent that they can use to knockout the guards to escape.

Markus has a private call with Viktor, though he questions why Tomás is not there. Markus reveals that he killed him for his betrayal, but Viktor is not upset and is instead determined to make an example of the West. He gives the orders for the terror attack.

Peter goes to meet the buyer and hands over the file. Before he does, he demands to know what it is. He says he knows it’s a criminal case file, but wants to know about who. The buyer reveals it’s on Viktor Bala, convicted of using K.X. on his own people. He says that Viktor believes someone in the ICC or UN removed the US’s involvement in which they sold the chemical agent to him. The file would prove the Secretary General did it, as Viktor claims, exposing a huge secret. The buyer is pleased with the file and also that he now has Peter, an agent from Night Action, at his mercy. He says he’ll keep his secret safe, but only if Peter answers the phone he hands to him whenever he wants him to. He finally reveals where Rose and the chemical weapon is - a warehouse in Brooklyn.

Back with Catherine, Deputy Director Mosley turns up to see Solomon’s body. Peter calls her and reveals the location and that she wants her to meet him there so he can explain everything. At the lab, they successfully knock out the guards with a chemical agent. Rose notices that the team transporting the K.X. will be wearing United Nations maintenance crew outfits. As Rose and Dr. Cole wear gas masks, they successfully free his family. But, as they try to escape, more men turn up and grab Dr. Cole’s wife and Rose. While Dr. Cole escapes with his daughter, he tells her to run while he goes back for his wife.

Fortunately, Peter shows up and takes Dr. Cole's daughter's gas mask to head inside. Dr. Cole knocks out the man holding his wife and Rose hostage, but before he can get away too, he is beaten to death. Meanwhile, Rose and Dr. Cole’s wife hide in a van and Peter finds them. He tells them to stay silent while he looks for the other man. They fight and while it looks like Peter is about to lose, Rose comes and pulls the guard's mask off, knocking him out.

As Catherine and the police arrive, but while Rose and Peter have survived, the men have already escaped with the chemical weapon, K.X. Rose reveals that Tomás Bala was doing this on behalf of Viktor, but that his cousin Markus killed him and has taken over. She tells them that Markus and his men are headed to the UN building and Peter reveals that Viktor blames the UN for framing him after selling him K.X. and then hiding the fact. Rose says Markus and his men have 15 canisters that could kill thousands. It cuts to the UN building where Markus and his men are loading the canisters into the vent system.

Episode eight begins 17 years ago. Viktor Bala is holding a dinner with his son, Tomás, in attendance. His father is angry as Tomás doesn’t use their family name at school, instead using his mother’s name, Dargin. For this, he humiliates him and takes away his dinner. He tells his father it would be hard for him in England if he said he was from a family of warmongers. Viktor slaps him and Tomás leaves. Markus follows him. He tells him to come back and that he should respect the Bala name, though he also reveals that he was the one that told Viktor that Tomás wasn’t using the family name. Tomás slaps Markus.

In the present day, Tomás, Markus and the team have brought Rose, Dr. Cole, and his family to a secret location. They lock Dr. Cole’s family in a fridge unit and say they need Dr. Cole and Rose to work in the lab. Meanwhile, Peter has driven Solomon out of the city. Solomon promises that he’ll phone his boss and take Peter to him. Elsewhere, Catherine arrives at Dr. Cole’s house where Deputy Director Mosley is. She says she’s trying to trace Peter, but that for now, she’s lost him. He says that Foxglove is not Night Action’s responsibility anymore, Peter is.

At the lab, Dr. Cole argues that K.X. cannot actually be made and that Foxglove was all theory. Markus says he will have to, if he wants his family to live. He says he'll need time and a team and that one mistake would be catastrophic, but Markus isn’t interested. Rose says they need to start working while they try and find a way out.

Solomon takes Peter to his boss who tells him if he wants something from him, referring to Foxglove and the location of Dr. Cole and his family, and most importantly Rose, that he'll need to pay for it. The buyer reveals he sold the chemical weapon to the bigger buyer who was most likely to achieve the goal, though his goal is not clear. Peter asks him what he wants in exchange for their location. He says he wants something from the Secretary General of the UN - a case file. He tells him the file number and tells him if he wants to save Rose’s life, he'll need to bring the file.

Peter realizes it’s not just about retrieving the file, but also that the man will then own him for what he’s done. But, the buyer knows Peter will do it because of how much he cares for Rose. Peter is given a number to call once the job is done. As he walks away, Solomon is told to follow him.

Peter calls Noor and asks for her help with getting into the UN building. She says she can help, but they need to meet in person now. He’s confused as to why she hasn't gone to see her mom yet, but what Peter doesn’t know is that she’s promised to bring him to Javad. Not knowing he’s driving into danger, he arranges to meet Noor in private.

At the lab, Dr. Cole is instructing Rose and says they need to follow careful steps if they don’t want to kill themselves while trying and scale up the chemical weapon. Markus and Tomás argue over what they should do, but Markus say he’ll incentivize Dr. Cole by bringing him body parts of his own family. Markus instructs Tomás that they need to find something to leverage on Rose.

Meanwhile, Peter meets Noor and pleads for her help to save Rose and thousands of other people that are in danger if the men successfully make the chemical weapon, K.X. He says if she helps, he’ll take her to her mother, but she says he’s lying and that she’s been told her mother is still in Iran and is being held in custody. Peter calls Sami and he puts Noor’s mom on the phone, proving that she’s alive and in New York. Peter asks again for Noor’s help, but she says Javad is already there waiting outside. He hands Noor a taser.

As Dr. Cole and Rose are working on the K.X., Tomás orders Rose to speak to him. He accuses her of lying about who she is and that he found the CIA file about Foxglove in her bag. He demands to know who she is and she says she works for the FBI and the rest of her team are on the way. He still says she’s lying, but she turns it on him saying he doesn’t actually want to kill anyone. She says they can stop it right now, if he lets her go, but he’s worried about Markus. She says he’s better than his family and that if he wants a future, he shouldn't do this.

Peter and Noor leave and Javad and his men surround them. One takes Noor to head back to the mission and Peter beats Javad and the others with a baton. While he gets into his van to escape, Javad shoots and causes it to crash. Peter is trapped inside, but escapes and manages to fight Javad off. Though he runs away, Javad is still chasing him. Meanwhile, Noor tasers the guard that she's with. Peter runs into the subway and Javad follows him. They fight on the platform, but Peter manages to get onto a train, leaving Javad behind. Noor goes back to the mission and uses a keycard to get into Javad’s office.

Dr. Cole successfully makes a small amount of K.X. and thus proves it’s possible. Tomás enters the lab and asks if the chemical agent can be contained. Dr. Cole says you don’t create something like this if you’re worried about containing it. He says K.X. expands rapidly in air and that in a room, it’ll suffocate everyone, but not only that, it burns people from the inside out. Breathing it in makes it worse as it expands even more aggressively and the contact with your skin burns. He hands him the vial and says that the vial would be a murder, but the drums of chemicals in the lab would be a massacre. In a change of heart, Tomás tells Dr. Cole to stall as long as possible until he can get him, his family, and Rose out.

At Javad’s office, Noor prints Peter out an ID pass to gain access to the UN building, but as she goes to leave someone comes back and she hides under the desk. It’s Abbas and he asks her what she’s doing. She notices he’s got the DGSE reports and reveals that his daughter’s name is on the list of Iranian dissidents. She offers to help him to keep his daughter safe. He tells her to turn herself in.

Instead, she says that she’ll go to the UN and hand the list to the French diplomat so that they can help save the names on the list, including his daughter. She says he can still hand her over because prison wouldn’t make her feel as bad as she already does about the death of her brother. She says that Abbas can tell Javad everything and say she stole the papers and ran off. He agrees. Meanwhile, Catherine has Sami follow Noor to see if she leads them to Peter.

Peter returns to the apartment and Catherine is waiting there for him. She wants answers about Solomon. He explains that he used Solomon to get to the buyer who is going to lead him to Foxglove. As he tries to leave, she holds her gun up to him. He pushes her into the bathroom, locks her in, and leaves.

Back at the lab, Markus is angry at Dr. Cole for not working fast enough. Defying Tomás’s order, Markus brings out Dr. Cole’s wife and daughter. Markus notices that Dr. Cole keeps looking at Tomás for help and Markus turns on him. He orders the men to lock Tomás in the fridge and then orders Dr. Cole and Rose to go back in the lab and complete the job.

Meanwhile, Noor meets Peter and says she’s coming with him to the UN. Markus goes to speak to Tomás. Tomás says that they can’t be like his father because that makes them monsters, too. Markus says Tomás doesn’t care about their people and that he is no Bala. In a shocking moment, Markus releases the vial of K.X. into the fridge and locks the door behind him, killing Tomás in exactly the way Dr. Cole described. At the same time, Dr. Cole successfully scales up his work to make a larger batch of K.X.

Episode seven begins six years ago. Solomon is driving along at night and pulls over to help someone, the buyer that we know he now works for. He appears to have all his belongings in the back and when the buyer asks, Solomon says they’re his sisters and that she needed new equipment after a hit-and-run. He asks the man what he’s doing out at this time and he says he’s a trader and is off to work but his driver never showed up. He asks more about Solomon's sister and Solomon is angry that they never caught the person responsible. The tow truck arrives and they part ways, but the buyer clocks Solomon’s number plate.

It cuts to Solomon on another day getting into his truck. He notices an envelope has been left on his dash. Inside, a file with a note that reads, “Thanks for having my back last week. I am looking for a new driver.” Inside the file shows the ID of the man that hit Celeste and a photo of his car.

In the present day, Peter has handcuffed Solomon to a table for interrogation. Solomon mentions that we knows Peter’s father was a traitor, but before he was arrested, none of the big government agencies were investigating him. He suggests an off-book agency were responsible for his arrest and he mentions Night Action.

Catherine calls Peter out of the room and tells him that Solomon doesn’t know anything about Night Action. Peter reveals that Solomon and his team were patched into their comms during her meet. He suggests there’s a mole in the FBI and that’s how they are gaining access, and that it would explain what happened to Alice and him in Bangkok when Solomon's team knew their extraction point. They realize that Solomon's main job is brokering deals to buy and sell secret intel and so Catherine wonders who he sold the Foxglove intel to since it wasn't the Iranians. Peter’s interrupted by Rose who reveals Noor is freaking out and that they need to meet with her immediately. Catherine says she’ll wait for Deputy Director Mosley to arrive and that Peter should go.

As Noor goes to leave the Iranian residences, Javad arrives and insists they spend time together, but she tells him she needs to be alone. Elsewhere, Tomás arrives back and is with Sloane. She suggests they spend the day together, but he says he’s in meetings. She worries that Tomás’s father, Viktor, is asking him to do something risky. Her suspicions are confirmed when it cuts to Tomás meeting with Markus who hands him a gun.

Noor goes to meet Rose and says she knows her brother, Farhad, is dead. She’s angry that Rose lied to her and while Peter arrives and apologizes, she’s still upset. Noor demands to know what happened, so he explains. She says she wants to call her mother, so he calls Sami. He can’t get through and she doesn’t believe they actually have her mother and tries to go back to the Iranian mission. Peter says it’s not safe for her. She refuses to come to the safe house with him, so he says instead to meet them tonight with Sami and her mother. As Noor leaves, Javad has followed her and is outside taking photos of her. He then takes photos of Peter and Rose as they leave behind her.

Markus and Tomás make a pick up of an unknown shipment with a truck and false documents to transport them. Catherine starts to question Solomon about the Foxglove intel. Solomon says he wants to talk to Peter alone. She says he needs to cut a deal with her if he wants the federal agents to cut him some slack, and he says if she wants to find out about Foxglove to look into cyanogen.

Rose is upset that they lied to Noor and wants to go back to California. They’re interrupted by a call from Catherine insisting Peter comes back. Meanwhile, Noor goes back to the mission and one of Javad’s team says Javad wants to speak with her and may have information about her missing mother.

By searching cyanogen as Solomon suggested, Catherine reveals a batch was just stolen from a chemical plant and that the shipment was intercepted by a fake crew - Markus and Tomás, though they don’t know this yet. Theorizing it’s the same crew that took the mobile lab and murdered the men, they realize that would mean they now have the lab and some of the compounds to make a chemical weapon from Foxglove, which could kill thousands of people. To stop them, they need to figure out what else they need to pick up. The Foxglove intel shows the agents what is needed and a list of the scientists involved. Rose finds one of the scientist's locations, Dr. Cole, and says she’ll go to meet him. As she leaves, she asks Catherine for protection to go back to California when she's done.

Peter questions Solomon and figures out that he’s covering for a superior. He brings up Celeste and says he’s doing bad things to protect her and that if she’s getting paid by Solomon’s boss, she’ll be in trouble too. So, if Solomon doesn’t help, Peter will get Celeste arrested for fraud.

Rose goes to see Dr. Cole and he denies knowing about Foxglove, until she shows him the file with his name on it. He tells her to leave or he’ll call security. She stops him by revealing that a shipment of cyanogen was stolen. Elsewhere, Markus and Tomás arrive at another location and they hand over their forged transport paperwork. The guard asks him to step out of the truck alerting the team that something is wrong. Markus kills him and then a police car with two more officers turns up. Tomás kills one of them and Markus kills the other.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cole has taken Rose back to his house and says they need to go in the basement to his study. Worried, she sends her location to Peter. Dr. Cole reveals that while he worked on the project, he was only able to create antidotes for some of the chemical agents, but he was removed from the project before finishing. He was told that Foxglove was finished. Not believing that Foxglove was really over, he shows Rose some files which include a report on Viktor Bala, Tomás’s father in The Hague, who has used a chemical weapon on his own people. It shows his claim to have gotten the weapon from US sources, though they couldn’t find out how. He thinks that someone made the chemical agents in Foxglove and gave one to Viktor.

Back with Catherine and Peter, Catherine receives a call from Deputy Director Mosley. She then calls Rose to tell her the team have acquired another chemical compound, Oxamyl. Working with Dr. Cole they try to figure out what chemical weapon they could be making based on the two agents they’ve procured so far. He says the only one that uses the two is called K.X. - a very powerful blistering agent, and one of the chemical agents they couldn’t develop an antidote for. They track down two places in Philadelphia and Long Island where they could be manufacturing the next chemical that they’ll go after. Mosley heads to Philadelphia and Catherine goes to Long Island. She tasks Peter with continuing to watch over Solomon, but not to question him.

Javad meets with Noor and tells her that her mom is safe in Iran. When she asks if he can talk to her, he says she is in no state to talk. He shows her a photo of Rose and asks if she knows her. She denies it. He shows a photo of Peter and she denies knowing him, too. He then shows her the photo of her that day leaving the same place as Peter and Rose. She says that Peter has been following her and she thinks he’s a spy. She says he’s been threatening her to give him files, so she tried to hide from him upstairs at Abbas’s party. He sits with her and asks her what she’s doing with the Americans. He says if she doesn’t tell the truth, she’ll never see her mother again. Desperate, she admits that she went to the Americans offering Iranian intelligence in exchange for freedom. He’s angry at her, but grabs at her in a rage admitting that he was falling for her. He says once he tells Abbas, she’ll be heading back to Iran. To save herself, she offers to bring Peter to Javad.

Catherine shows up to one of the places that Tomás and his team may turn up next. She asks an officer why they’re all out in the open rather than concealed. Catherine calls Peter to tell him they already got the next chemical and that they must have more teams working on gathering them then they realized.

Through the cameras Solomon says Peter should speak to his boss, the buyer, and that while the team have all the chemical elements, they need more than that, but he can find out what exactly that is if he speaks to his boss.

As Rose goes to leave Dr. Cole’s house, gunmen arrive and she instructs him that they will all need to hide - including Dr. Cole’s wife and daughter. The gunmen are Markus and his team. Peter tries to call Rose as they’re hiding and it tips the gunmen off to their whereabouts. The men have come to kidnap Dr. Cole to force him to build the chemical weapon for them and beat him to the ground. Rose says she’s one of his fellows and that she knows about Foxglove and has all the intel. As Dr. Cole lies unconscious she says they’ll need her in case he’s unable to make the weapon himself. They take her, Dr. Cole, and his family.

Elsewhere, Sami is in New York waiting for Noor to come and meet her mom. She doesn’t show up so Sami rings Catherine. She tells him they have a bigger problem as she stands in the room where Solomon was being held, only now he’s gone along with Peter.

Here's a recap of everything that happened in The Night Agent season 2 episode 6.

The sixth episode begins 13 years earlier. Catherine is in a car doing surveillance with a man, Noah. He hands her the religious necklace she was holding in episode five and they keep watch on the home of their target, Anton. In the middle of the night, they see Anton leave and break into his home. They install surveillance in his wall sockets. But as Catherine searches around, she notices another bed and calls for Noah to warn him that she doesn’t think they’re alone. At the same time, a man grabs Noah from behind and stabs him in the neck, killing him. As he turns on Catherine next, he almost strangles her to death, but she reaches into her pocket and uses the necklace Noah gave her to stab him in the eye and overpowers him. She uses her phone and calls in Night Action.

The man is taken into custody and Catherine is called in by her boss. He reveals the man is Yuri Abramov and he's given up Anton's whereabouts, as well as who their man inside the Pentagon is. He asks Catherine to work on the case to expose Yuri’s mole in the Pentagon. His name is Peter Sutherland, Peter's dad.

In the present day, Peter asks Noor to hand over the files and says they’ll put her in a safe house. At the same time, Noor’s phone keeps ringing - it’s Haleh. As Noor steps out to answer, Peter reveals to Catherine and Rose the truth, that Farhad died. Haleh tells Noor to get back to the Iranian mission quickly as Javad knows about the phone. But, when Noor tells Catherine she wants to go back, she's told she can't. Noor notices that Rose is now upset and wants to talk to her alone. Rose lies and says that Farhad broke his arm when they were trying to leave. Trusting her, Noor hands over the drive with all the files and the password. Rose hands it over to Peter and Catherine, but leaves upset.

Elsewhere, Abbas and Javad go to meet Solomon again. Abbas reveals that Americans were inside his mission looking for the list Solomon sold him. Javad shows him the photos of Peter and Rose. Solomon denies knowing either of them, but Abbas suspects him. Javad demands that the files are stored securely in his safe from now on.

Meanwhile, Catherine opens the files from Noor. It’s a list of Iranian dissidents living in Europe leaked by a French organization called DGSE, which is only relevant to the Iranian government, not them. Disheartened that the files were not about Foxglove, they determine that there must be a connection somehow between the Iranians, Solomon, and the buyer, that will lead them eventually to Foxglove. They run one of the files for location data to plan their next move, knowing now that they need to get to Solomon.

It cuts to The Hague as Tomás is visiting his father. He wants to discuss what Markus did, but his father defends Markus's actions. Tomás says he’s trying to work on a plan, but it’s hard when his father has been convicted of war crimes. His father says he knows what Markus is doing because he instructs him. His plan is to make an example of the Americans, not just expose them for their lies. He claims that he used chemical weapons on his people that the Americans sold to him. To make an example then, he needs the chemical weapons. Tomás realizes his father didn’t tell him the truth because he didn’t trust him to give the money over that he needed to carry out his plan. He says he doesn’t think Tomás is up for the job, but he wants him to prove him wrong.

Noor comes back to the mission and asks Javad to talk. He leads her up to his office. She tells him the phone was hers and that Haleh had nothing to do with it. She hands over her phone for him to search. She says she only went upstairs during the party because she needed the toilet. He says he’ll need to tell Abbas, and Noor says she’ll be fired. Javad explains that he has bigger problems right now, such as finding out why the Americans were on the mission snooping around. He then mentions Abbas’s daughter, Shirin, and how she turned on Iran after studying abroad and falling for a man.

Back at Peter’s apartment, Rose has a call with her therapist and says she wants to open up about her aunt and uncle’s death and everything that happened after it. She’s worried if she stays with Peter, she’ll fall into a bad state again. Elsewhere, Catherine follows a woman named Jacqueline. They meet in a restaurant and it's revealed that Jacqueline works for the UN. She reveals that Noor's files are French intel and asks Jacqueline who leaked them. When Jacqueline says she doesn’t know, Catherine reveals that she tracked the printout of the files to a shop and on the surveillance footage there is Jacqueline. She tells her she knows she’s an undercover agent for the DGSE and that she won’t expose her if she introduces her to Solomon.

Meanwhile, Peter reveals to Rose that the intelligence wasn’t what they hoped for. Catherine calls and reveals that Jacqueline has been selling state secrets to Solomon for years. Catherine says she’s got a meeting with Solomon, but that she’ll go in herself as he doesn’t know her face. After the meeting, Peter is tasked with following him to see where he goes - hoping it would be back to the buyer.

Solomon tells the buyer that Jacqueline wants to make an introduction to someone new. He’s immediately suspicious that this has happened too closely to Peter getting inside the Iranian mission and so he’s happy to set it up. Elsewhere, Tomás flies home and calls Markus all fired up from the conversation with his father. He asks him to save him a seat on the truck tomorrow. He seems surprised, but agrees. Tomás says that he now approves of his father’s plans.

Catherine goes to meet Rose. She wants her to watch surveillance while she meets with Solomon, but Rose refuses. Catherine brings up Rose’s aunt and uncle and says that Night Action had to go dark after they died. She tries to convince Rose to help her and her persuasion pays off as Rose agrees, though she demands to know everything about the mission and Foxglove.

Noor is trying to pack to leave, but Javad interrupts her and says she needs to come with him. Meanwhile, Catherine goes with Jacqueline for the meet. She asks her why she is selling state secrets and she reveals she got dropped from field work because of her age, but that when she started trading intel, the home office found she was still useful.

Javad takes Noor to Abbas. He informs her that her mother is now missing and that a body was found on the road. He shows her a photo of her brother’s body. Seeing that Farhad has died, she storms out.

Catherine and Jacqueline arrive at the meet and Peter and Rose have eyes on the building, but can’t see inside. Solomon has three of his team patrolling the streets and one breaks away from the pack, circling where Peter is standing. Using the cameras, Rose instructs him how to get away. But, she calls him on the phone rather than continuing to talk over comms as she realizes that Solomon's team are somehow listening in. She says whenever he changes direction, so do they. They then realize that Catherine is in danger.

Catherine and Jacqueline sit with Solomon and explain that she has intel she can sell, but he questions Jacqueline as to why she’d put their relationship at risk for a friend. He asks for a word in private. Taking her to the side, he says that in all his years, a source has never referred anyone to him. He calls her out as a rat, pulls out his gun, and kills her. He then turns the gun on Catherine and demands she tells him all about Peter and Night Action. Meanwhile, Peter is trying to get to Catherine, but Solomon’s team are still swarming the building. As he descends down the side, they're still pursuing him, but he manages to escape by pretending over comms that he's boarded a bus.

Rose calls him to say he’s only got about five minutes to get to Catherine before they figure out what they’re doing. Fortunately, Peter makes it to Catherine in time and Solomon shoots at him. As Solomon is distracted by Peter's presence, Catherine knocks him to the ground. They both hold guns to him and to this, he laughs.

Episode five starts five years ago with Catherine meeting a prisoner, Sergeant Sami Saidi, arrested for killing a civilian during a military operation, despite doing great service before it. While she tries to question him on his motive, he says the missions were classified. She says her theory is that Sergeant Theo Miller shot the civilian, Aisha Al-Bashir, in Ramadi and that Sami is being used as a cover up for a nephew of a four-star general. She starts to speak to him in Arabic. He reveals he speaks lots of different languages. Then, Catherine reveals she wants to free him and recruit him for Night Action.

Back in the present day, Catherine tells Peter to wait until the end of the day for Noor to hand over the photos or they’ll have to expose her to the Iranian ambassador. Rose is upset that they’d turn on Noor, but Catherine says blackmail might be the only option and a lot more is at risk.

At the Iranian mission, Abbas and Javad are discussing the events of the party. They’re now concerned about a leak in the mission. Javad runs into Noor and asks if she’s been crying, she lies and says she’s unwell. As Javad leaves, Haleh starts to question Noor about what she’s been up to and why her phone was found upstairs when no-one should’ve been up there.

Meanwhile at Peter’s apartment, Rose is insisting they get Noor’s family out of Iran like they promised. He said the CIA are working on it, but she asks how he can trust them after Warren worked for them. Meanwhile, Solomon Vega is with his sister Celeste at the doctors, revealing that she knows he's alive. They talk about how he’s worked for the buyer for six years and that all the money goes to Celeste so he can’t quit. She insists he asks for more money.

Catherine and Peter meet up in the basement where they usually meet Noor. This time, she brings Sami Saidi, the prisoner she recruited five years ago. Peter informs him of the plan he's come up with to get Noor’s family out of Isfahan. They tell Sami about Foxglove and the risk the weapons pose, which is why it's so important to get the photos of the files from Noor as they believe it will reveal more.

Catherine suggests that they still blackmail Noor and buy Sami some more time to do the extraction, but Peter is concerned that the Iranian mission will uncover Noor before they can get the files. Sami agrees to do it Peter’s way to protect Noor and Catherine says she’ll find someone to fly him into Isfahan undetected that afternoon. Noor arrives to discuss the plan and gives as much intel about her family as possible.

Back at Peter’s apartment, Rose has a video call with her boss, Artoun. He reveals they actually love the changes she made to his code and they want to use AdVerse as a tracking tool now instead. Rose is concerned that selling it to the wrong people would have grave consequences. She threatens to quit unless she’s made chief technology officer, given equity, and that an ethics board is assembled to make sure they vet what happens to the technology before it goes bad.

Solomon is now with the buyer waiting for someone to arrive. He poses that he’d like a raise, but they’re interrupted by a man's arrival. Solomon steps out of the car with a package. In exchange for the package, the man reveals that Peter Sutherland hasn’t worked for anyone in Bangkok or the US in the past ten months, so can't find out who he's working for. The man hands over intel on Camp David.

Elsewhere, Noor and Sami are speaking to Noor’s mom over the phone telling her to get ready for extraction. Noor insists she wants to be with Peter tomorrow to check they get out safely. After she leaves, Sami asks Peter why he’s so on edge and he explains about Alice dying. He tells him that he should have a moral anchor that guides what he does, for him it’s his little sister, and Peter should have one too.

At the mission the next day, Javad brings Noor food to make her feel better. He then calls Haleh in for a private meeting. He asks her about the party and confirms that she was responsible for hiring the caterers. He shows her a photo of Peter. When she says she doesn’t recognize him, he doesn’t believe her. He then asks her about the guest list and shows a photo of Rose and Emil and questions how they gained entry. He then shows a photo of Haleh speaking to Rose on the staircase. When asked about the phone, she says it was hers, even though it was Noor’s. Haleh hands over her phone to which Javad replies that it looks nothing like the one in the photo. He mentions bringing in her husband, Bijan, and she insists he has nothing to do with it. Desperate, she reveals it was in fact Noor’s phone, but as Javad goes downstairs to find her, she’s leaving down the stairs and he watches her go.

Elsewhere, Solomon and the buyer are looking over the intel on Camp David. Peter has been deleted from the files and they try to figure out who did it and why. They discuss how they heard Alice say Night Action over the radio in Bangkok and they’re suspicious as to whether that will lead them to Peter. The buyer says they can’t afford to have blind spots this close to the finish line. He returns to the conversation about a raise. He thanks him for his help with Foxglove and offers him a promotion and a raise. He tasks him with finding Peter and bringing him to him.

While Noor is out, Javad goes into her room and starts searching through her belongings. Abbas calls him asking what happened with the interrogation of Haleh and Bijan. He hides the truth. Abbas goes to check the briefcase and realizes it’s open.

Meanwhile, Rose, Peter, and Noor meet Catherine to hear about the extraction in Iran. Catherine confirms Sami is in Isfahan, but they have to wait for the phone to ring with any updates. Catherine grasps a religious necklace in her hand. It cuts to Sami driving towards the apartment. Noor’s brother, Farhad, is on the phone to his girlfriend talking about being at the army base. Sami arrives and is surprised to hear that Noor’s mother hadn’t told Farhad what was happening and Farhad is in fact angry and refuses to leave. Sami calls Noor to ask her to speak with her brother and while she tries to convince him that she did this for their family and so that he doesn’t have to go to the army, he still refuses and the situation becomes increasingly tense.

A neighbor, Babak, comes to the door and asks if they’re okay. Farhad starts telling him what’s really going on while his mom and Sami try to quieten him. Babak refuses to leave, so Sami invites him in and he leaves, angrily, to go and get something. At this point, Peter tells Catherine to pull Sami out and Noor says not without her family and that she’ll destroy the photos of the files if they do. Peter and Noor begin explaining to Farhad what Noor has done to earn their asylum and that she is in danger. He says if he goes with Sami, he’ll be keeping his sister safe. He agrees.

As they try to leave though, Babak comes back with a weapon and more men. Sami has to fight them off, but manages to get them in the car and drives away. The police have been called and while Sami evades them, Farhad tells his mom he's still not leaving and he wants to be dropped off. The police suddenly pull Sami over and start questioning him. They get Sami to step out of the car and realizing that the mission is going bad, he pulls out a knife and stabs the officer. He then shoots both officers dead.

As Sami tries to return to the car, Farhad gets out and picks up one of the officer’s guns and holds it up at Sami. His mom pleads with him to stop, but Farhad takes a shot at Sami. In defence, Sami takes a shot back and kills him. The mom screams and refuses to get in the car, so he handcuffs her and takes her regardless.

Back in New York, the phone finally rings and Peter answers. Sami tells him what happened and that the brother is dead. Sami says he’ll return with Noor’s mom. When Peter hangs up the phone, Noor asks if her family are safe and he tells her that they are.

The fourth episode begins a year ago in Isfahan, Iran, where Noor is with her family. She’s reading her something her friend wrote and warns her that it’s dangerous to speak of the Revolutionary Guard the way she has. Their conversation is interrupted by the police and while her friend hurries her out of the room, they arrest the friend and take her away in the back of a police car.

In the present day, Peter and Rose meet with Noor in New York. He tells her to get copies of whatever is in the briefcase and in exchange he’ll get her family out of Iran and give them protection and money. She doesn’t want her brother, Farhad, to die like her father did in war, so she agrees, but they'll work together to complete the mission during an upcoming party at the Iranian mission.

Catherine speaks with the FBI’s Deputy Director Mosley who says he asked the CIA's Director Gedney about Foxglove and he said he'd never heard about it. She says she wants to ask him some questions of her own, but he advises against it. Next, she goes to pay a visit to Solomon’s sister, Celeste, but when she arrives at her home, it’s empty. Her neighbor tells her she moved in the middle of the night.

For Peter and Rose, Noor draws a map of the Iranian mission building, showing how to gain access to Abbas’s study. She says Peter will need Abbas’s keycard to get in, and that Javad will be watching. Rose suggests she uses herself as a distraction to get the keycard from Abbas’s jacket pocket.

Elsewhere, Tomás meets with his cousin Markus after the robbery. Tomas is angry about the murders. He mentions that his father’s sentencing is coming up, but they’re interrupted by Solomon Vega arriving. He sits down and they discuss business before Solomon hands Markus a thumb drive.

Back at the Iranian residences, Noor speaks to her friend and fellow aide, Haleh. Haleh asks her about her lunch date with Javad. Noor then offers to take over Haleh's work on the party and when her friend leaves she opens a note from her pocket that has the name Emil Giger written down. She adds his name to the party's guest list on Haleh's computer with a plus one.

Meanwhile, Peter and Rose discuss the plan and Peter makes Rose promise that if anything goes wrong, she has to leave. She promises. Elsewhere, Catherine goes to pick up her mail and as she opens it up she's upset by the contents and tells the postal worker that there must be a mistake.

The plan for the party is that Rose will enter with Emil, a Swiss attaché and Peter will go in as a waiter. Elsewhere, Catherine receives a text saying that KinCare Trust has disappeared. She’s waiting outside a house as a man arrives home with his kids. She asks if he’s Isaac Leeds and has the package she received in the mail in her hands. He's revealed to be Alice’s cousin and while she thinks he should have the contents of the package, he admits he didn't know her and had actually sent the package back. Catherine keeps it.

That night, Emil and Rose arrive at the Iranian mission together. Emil says he’ll call her Bettina and that he's only doing this for Catherine because she holds something over his head. They’re instructed to hand their phones in at the door and Rose says she didn’t bring one. Meanwhile, Peter resets the cameras in the mission so that he has 15 minutes to go unnoticed as he goes to get the briefcase. Emil and Rose speak to Abbas and he asks Rose whether she'll be voting for Knox or Hagan for president in the upcoming election.

To create a distraction for Noor to take the keycard from Abbas's pocket, she pretends to choke. While Noor successfully retrieves it, as she's about to hand it to Peter, Javad calls him over for help. Though Rose goes to leave as she senses the mission going wrong, she turns around and instead tells Noor to give her the keycard and phone so she can go instead of Peter and take photos.

Javad tasks Peter with pouring away the alcohol they’ve been gifted by their guests in the kitchen. Javad is suspicious of Peter and asks him why he's looking for escapes in the room. As Peter tries to leave, Javad has the doors armed with men. At the same time, Rose has made her way into Abbas’s office and finds the briefcase. It needs a code to open, but Rose manages to pry the lock open instead.

Downstairs, Noor wants to draw Javad away from Peter so spills drinks over Emil and Javad's men come to get him for help. He instructs them to put Peter in the basement. Rose takes photos of all the files inside the briefcase, but just as she thinks she’s gotten away with it, Haleh catches her on the staircase and asks her how she has a phone. She hands over Noor’s phone to Haleh saying she found it and Haleh says she'll return it. While the cameras had been off when Rose left the room, they came back on while she was on the staircase.

In the basement, Javad’s men try to taser Peter. He successfully fights them off and escapes out of the building. But, when he arrives back to his apartment, Rose isn’t there. He tries to call, but she doesn’t answer as her phone is in the apartment, too. At the mission, Emil returns the keycard into Abbas’s jacket.

Angry about the package, Catherine goes to find Director Gedney at dinner and puts the contents in front of him at the table - Alice's ashes. She says Alice committed a lot of years to the service and this is how she’s repaid. She refuses to leave until Gedney tells her what Alice died for. She asks him, “Foxglove. What is it?”

Rose returns to the apartment and tells Peter she got the photos. He’s angry because she promised to leave and she didn’t. They share a kiss. The next morning, Peter meets with Catherine to scatter Alice’s ashes. She says she’ll have information to share from Gedney about Foxglove, but not yet.

Tomás gets ready to meet with his cousin Markus again. His girlfriend, Sloane, is unsure whether it's a good idea. Tomás agrees with her and reveals he’s making moves behind his back, but he’s going to remind him who’s in charge. Tomás tells Markus the plan was to document the truck, not steal it and kill Americans. Markus says that Tomás is in over his head and needs to show loyalty to his father, suggesting who is really in charge, even from The Hague.

Meanwhile, Catherine meets with Peter and Rose in the basement where they previously met with Noor. While they wait, Catherine shares the intel she’s received on Foxglove. She tells them that the government was trying to make new synthetic weapons out of existing chemicals to make sure they were ahead of the game if anyone else ever did. The program was then tasked with creating the antidotes to cure them. But, in order to do all this, they had to create the chemical weapons in the first place. They made nine using a mobile lab, the one that was hijacked by Markus.

Noor arrives but doesn’t bring the photos that Rose took until she’s sure the US government will protect her family, as promised. She tells them she's worried as Javad is currently looking through the security footage and the Iranian mission is on high alert after the party. Peter says it’ll take time to plan the extraction for her family and while Peter tries to grab Noor’s phone she reveals she's transferred the photos to a drive, which she refuses to hand it over until her family are out of Iran.

This episode begins seven months ago as Rose interviews for her job at AdVerse. She says she doesn’t want to be a CEO, she just wants to write code. Back in the present day, Peter has answered Warren's phone. An unknown man tells him that he’s a hard man to track down and that he wants to make a deal. Viewers are shown that it’s the man from Bangkok that received the thumb drive from Warren, but Peter doesn't know. He tells Peter to give himself up to his gunmen or Rose won’t make it out of the city safely. At this point, Peter realizes who he's speaking to and that because Peter can ID the man, he knows he's a threat to him. Peter declines his deal.

As the gunmen try to break down the door, Peter calls Rose and tells her to hide. The gunmen with Peter break in and start shooting. While Peter runs, he tells Rose what to do to evade the people chasing her. While she evades them successfully at one point, she's then grabbed by the man that handed the hard drive over to the man in Bangkok. He grabs her, but she manages to stab him in the arm and escape. As she’s running away, a hand grabs her and pulls her into cover. It’s Catherine.

Catherine wants Rose to lead her to Peter and she agrees. Peter accuses Catherine of being untrustworthy, and she says he went dark after Alice’s death because he doesn't know who he can trust now. But, while he says he had nothing to do with the job going wrong, Catherine says he can’t prove it. Instead, she says she’s pulling him out of the mission entirely. He says he’s the only one who knows who the buyer is and who has the leaked information, so she needs him.

He reveals that the buyer’s men shot Alice, then they shot Warren, and then they came after Rose. He says he can’t stop until he finds the buyer himself and Catherine agrees that he can keep looking. They’ll find the gunman who shot Alice and grabbed Rose and find out who he works for. Back at Peter’s apartment, Rose reveals she thinks the buyer tracked her down, which led to finding him and that Catherine has organized a way for her to go back to California safely.

At the Iranian residences, Noor, her friend Haleh, and Haleh’s partner Bijan joke about how Javad likes Noor. Haleh offers to cover for Noor so she can go and have lunch with him. When Noor suggests the next day, Haleh says that Abbas and Javad will be going out to a secret meeting.

The next morning, Noor runs into Javad on the way to work and proposes they have lunch together. He confirms that he’s going out with Abbas during lunch and she suggests she meets him wherever he's going. He refuses the offer, but instead she says she’ll wait for him and eat when he gets back. Elsewhere, Rose opens up to Peter about how her therapist says she hasn’t processed what she’s been through. He reveals he dreams about Alice dying. He agrees that she should go under protection as Catherine has suggested.

Meanwhile, Noor goes to a shop and buys a tracking device, which she places in Abbas’s coat. She tracks Abbas and Javad and sees them entering a building. Back at the apartment, Rose uses her code to track down Arthur, the alias of the gunman that was Warren’s link to the buyer, who shot Alice and attacked her. She runs a search eliminating any of the aliases he’s known by and searching simply for who he was in the time period before these names.

Elsewhere, two men share a drink at a bar. There's called Tomás who addresses the other one as Elliot and says that his father is imprisoned in The Hague. He wants Elliot to arrange a meeting for him with the foreign secretary to help. He refuses and says the foreign secretary won’t defend a dangerous war criminal. Tomás’s girlfriend Sloane shows up, breaking up the conversation.

Noor continues to watch the building and witnesses a man turn up, the man is 'Arthur', the man Rose and Peter are looking for. She takes a photo of him. At the apartment, Rose pulls up an article online from six years ago for a deceased Marine named Solomon Vega and that he’s survived by his sister, Celeste. As she tries to continue her search, she’s locked out and it says user account has been disabled. Her boss, Artoun, calls her and asks her what she’s doing to his code. He thinks she’s blindsiding him to make a play for an investor. She tries to say she’s searching for her mom, but he said she’s locked out of AdVerse and needs to come back to California to see if she still has a job. Fortunately, Peter was able to conduct a search for Solomon's sister and finds an address.

Meanwhile, Noor takes more photos of the man that met with Abbas, as well as photos of Abbas with a briefcase that has been handed over. She sends the photos, but the man she's working for says they’re worthless if they don’t know what’s inside the briefcase. She suggests she finds out, but he says it’s dangerous. Desperate to get her family out of Iran, she says she’ll do it.

Rose and Peter go to visit Solomon’s sister, Celeste. They pretend that they’re looking for him because Rose’s dad was a Marine that worked alongside Solomon. She tells them her brother died of suicide. Celeste says her brother looked after her after she lost her legs in a hit-and-run. Once they leave, Peter has stolen a bank statement which reveals she’s receiving payments from a company called KinCare Trust. They think this will lead them to Solomon’s buyer. Rose tells Catherine what they’ve found out and asks to stay longer, instead of going back to California under protection as she had planned.

After the secret meeting, Javad and Noor go out for lunch and they flirt with each other. Elsewhere, Catherine meets with Rose and Peter. She says Solomon has been completely wiped from the system. Instead, she’ll start looking into KinCare Trust. As Peter struggles to trust Catherine, he asks her about what really happened in Bangkok, but she says she found nothing to suggest a leak. Peter shares what Warren told him about Foxglove, the military weapons program and Rose tells Peter to play her the tape from the recording device, which he'd hidden from Catherine. As he plays it, the episode cuts to men driving a truck, but they're pulled off the road by gunmen led by a man called Markus. He murders the men and steals the truck, though it's not clear what's inside it yet.

Though they agreed that Rose would head home, Peter agrees to keep Rose under his protection. At the same time, Catherine shows the photos to them from Noor that show Solomon meeting with Abbas, the Iranian ambassador. Catherine tells Peter that they’re taking over Noor’s case and will meet with her tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Markus calls Tomás, the man who met Elliot at the bar earlier looking to help his father locked in The Hague. It's revealed that they're cousins and Markus says that even though they had a plan, he'd killed the men and stolen the whole truck. Tomás looks unnerved by this revelation.

The second episode begins nine months earlier. Peter arrives in Bangkok, Thailand to meet with Catherine for the first time. She informs him of a leak in the CIA agency there and that the Night Action need to find out who and why. Catherine questions Peter’s ability to do field work and offers him the chance to go back to the FBI. He declines the offer and instead she introduces him to Alice, an existing Night Action agent who will be training him. Alice immediately says he needs to destroy the personal contacts on his phone and advises him not to keep contact with anyone now that he's a night agent, including Rose. He agrees.

Back to the present day, Rose and Peter are still running from the gunmen, of which more turn up in cars. As they race down alleyways, they manage to escape and get back to Peter’s apartment. Rose tells Peter about the man that called asking her about him. He tells her about the job that went wrong in Bangkok and that now, he can’t trust anyone. Though he trusts her he says it can’t be like last time and that he can’t protect her if she stays.

It cuts to the Iranian mission to the United Nations in New York. Here, we meet low-level aide, Noor (Arienne Mandi). She discusses with her coworker, Haleh, that the new head of security, Javad, seems interested in her.

The next morning, Rose uses her facial recognition technology from work to find Warren on the security cameras in the city. She gets a few results of him around, the most recent a traffic camera, showing he's in New York. Peter says he needs proof of the leak in Night Action from Warren before he can go to the President, especially if it’s Catherine that’s compromised. He reveals that Warren had fake passports made for him and his son, Ethan, and that Peter thinks he’s trying to leave the country with him. They see Ethan leaving for his basketball game, so they go together in case Warren turns up.

At the basketball game, as suspected Warren is there and he takes Ethan for a chat. As he’s trying to convince Ethan to leave with him, his step dad, Frank, comes to the locker room and sees him. Ethan gets his stuff and waits outside, even though Frank tries to get him back to his mom. Warren beats Frank up and Ethan sees. Meanwhile, Peter and Rose arrive and see the mom sitting alone. They head to the locker room and find Frank bleeding on the floor. Ethan’s mom comes to the locker room and Peter reveals he’s FBI and needs any information she can give him about Warren. She reveals he might go out to Long Island where there's an airfield and Peter remembers Warren's a pilot.

Elsewhere, Noor meets with an unknown man and hands over a file. He says what she's given him is worthless and she says it has details of Iran’s drone program, but he says it’s nothing he hasn’t seen before. She insists that he said the CIA would grant her and her family asylum in exchange for intelligence. He says he needs valuable information and she tells him she has one week to get her brother out of Iran before he's conscripted to war. She says the Iranian ambassador has been having secret meetings with an American and that it could mean a leak. He tells her to find proof.

Back at the game, the police have arrived and so does Catherine. The mom reveals she knows David, aka Peter. Meanwhile, Warren has taken Ethan to a private airport and is readying a plane. Rose interrupts him, pretending that her friend is in danger and needs help. As he's distracted, Peter comes in and they begin to fight. Peter finally manages to knock him out and handcuffs him. Ethan watches as Peter puts his dad in the back of his van. While Rose is worried about Peter, she says she’ll travel back to the city with Ethan, return him to his mom, and then fly back to California.

At the Iranian mission, Noor goes into the Iranian ambassador’s office at night and starts searching his desk. Head of security, Javad, walks in on her and she says she’s just cleaning up. They talk about home and he offers to walk her back to the residences.

Elsewhere, Catherine receives a call from Director Gedney and Deputy Director Mosley of the CIA and FBI respectively. Gedney informs her that they have news of an intelligence leak, referring to Noor’s rumor that she shared. They’re wondering if it’s Warren. Ethan reunites with his mom and Rose heads off, though she doesn’t notice that Catherine is following her. Back at the residences, Noor is video calling her mother and her brother, Farhad. She tells him she wants him to visit someday.

Peter has Warren locked up in his warehouse and turns the recording device on. He tells him his father used to sell state secrets, like Warren, and regretted it. He says he won’t torture or kill Warren, but if he won’t give him the information he wants, he’ll hand him over to the FBI and that they’ll change the narrative of his entire life so his son won’t ever know what really happened. Peter says if he tells him the truth, he’ll tell Ethan his father did the right thing in the end.

When asked about Bangkok, Warren says he was selling intel to a man called Arthur, but that it was an alias and he was only the middleman. Peter mentions the man in the suit that was there, the one who was in the back of the car and was handed the thumb drive. When asked about Night Action, Warren doesn’t know about it and says he was working alone.

Peter then asks what intel he was selling and he reveals it was about a covert military program run by the CIA and the file was all the details of its early development. He calls the program Foxglove and says it dealt with chemical weapons. But, as he tries to explain, Warren is shot in the head by a sniper. While Peter ducks out of sight, Warren’s phone rings, but Peter doesn’t know if he can get to it safely. Meanwhile, the gunmen from before are following Rose as she tries to leave the city. Peter takes the risk and reaches for the phone, managing to get to it and answering.

The episode opens in a hotel lobby in Bangkok, Thailand. Peter (Gabriel Basso) is holding hands with an unknown woman (Brittany Snow). As they walk around, Peter suddenly asks if the man they're following has spotted them and she says that he’s checking for tails, so they need to keep acting like they’re on their honeymoon. They continue to pursue him, waiting to see if he passes on more intel. They watch as another man approaches him to talk. They decide to split up. The woman follows the new guy and Peter stays on their target, Warren.

That evening, they’re still tracking the men and communicating over earpieces. Warren drops something in a plant pot, which another man comes over and picks up - a thumb drive. Peter pursues the new man down an alleyway. Suddenly, another man pulls a gun on him and starts shooting. Peter shouts over his comms that he’s been spotted and at the same point, Alice is too.

Alice calls for an extraction and Peter finally escapes the four people chasing him down. But, as the pair meet at the extraction point, a gunman appears behind Alice and before either of them have a chance, she's killed. With no choice, Peter runs and calls Night Action to help him. He’s addressed as Copperhead and informs him that Hummingbird is dead. He asks to be put through to Reindeer, a woman called Catherine. He says that someone gave up their mission and the location of their extraction point. He tells her that Alice is dead and hangs up as the chase continues.

Meanwhile, the man hands the thumb drive off to another man in the back of a car who plugs it into a laptop. Inside is a file marked as top secret classified information. Peter manages to shoot one dead, but he’s still being pursued. As he launches into the river, one shot hits, but he goes out of sight under the water.

It's one month later. Rose Larkin is in therapy following the events of The Night Agent season 1. The therapist suggests a different therapist as she feels Rose won’t open up to her. Later, Rose is doing a presentation at work and she receives a call from an unknown international number. A man says he’s looking for Peter Sutherland. He says he’s in trouble and he wants to help him. While she questions the man, he won't answer and says he’ll call back to see if Peter contacts her. She calls Michelle Travers, the President, at the White House.

It cuts to Peter, alive but still wounded from the bullet. Meanwhile, Rose meets with Catherine at the President’s request. She reveals that Peter works for her at Night Action, but that they’ve lost contact with him. They discuss the man who called her, but that Rose hasn’t heard from Peter in ten months since he left for Night Action. Catherine tells Rose to ring her if the man calls back, or if Peter calls her. As Rose tries to ask questions, Catherine tells her she’s just a civilian, despite her help at Camp David, and that the President agrees.

Back at work, Rose uploads pictures of Peter and runs facial recognition using her company’s software. The company, AdVerse, uses customer data to build an online profile that they sell to other companies looking to target buyers. Instead though, she tweaks the code so that she can search security cameras to see if Peter’s face has been picked up anywhere. In doing so, she’s given a warning that she'll change the source code forever. She accepts and overrides.

Elsewhere, Peter is still pursuing the target from Bangkok, Warren, and is in an apartment watching surveillance of a house. He also has a photo of Warren with what appears to be his son. On the security camera, Peter watches as Warren's son leaves his house with his mom and Peter goes to find him in a white van. The camera pans to reveal he’s in New York.

Meanwhile, one search result comes back for Rose of Peter in the background of a woman’s Instagram photo at an urgent care, tagged in New York. She tracks him to 12th Street. Rose tells her boss her mom is having surgery in New York and needs to go.

It turns out Peter is coaching basketball to Warren’s kid, Ethan, in the park. They talk about his dad, but Ethan reveals that his dad doesn’t get along with his mom or step dad, so he doesn’t see him often. Instead, he says they talk on Signal, a messenger app. When his mom comes to pick him up, Peter takes Ethan's phone. He messages Warren saying he wants to see him, and he says he can tomorrow if he can get away from his mom. Peter sets up a makeshift interrogation in a warehouse, assembling lights, a chair with handcuffs, and a recording device.

Elsewhere, President Travers is being questioned by journalists about not endorsing Richard Hagan, her party’s candidate for President, despite the election coming up. She says she’s not running for re-election nor endorsing a candidate. She heads into a side room to meet with Night Action, which includes Peter's handler, Catherine. While two agents reveal things are on track, the President asks to speak to Catherine alone about Peter’s disappearance. Catherine reveals that they know he’s in New York, but that she has always had concerns about Peter and suggests that he was the reason Bangkok went wrong.

The President says Catherine feels that way because of the history she has with Peter’s father. Night Action also don’t know where Warren is or what top secret information he stole, or who he sold it to. Catherine raises her concerns about Peter’s mental state and reveals that Alice also raised concern over it the week before she died. The President says she trusts in Peter and that they need to find him.

Rose arrives in New York and heads to a shelter to look for Peter. The man at the desk says it’s confidential, but she mentions that Peter was in urgent care down the street and that they thought he was staying there. She begs the man for help, and he reveals that he knows Peter by the name David and that he was there, but he’s gone now. She asks whether the man knew what 'David' liked to do.

Peter receives a message from Warren on Ethan's phone to meet that night. He replies and Warren says don’t tell anyone. At the same time, his mom messages to say they’d switched phones at the court and to call her. Rose goes to the basketball courts and finds Ethan alone and asks about David. He says he’s his coach and that he was meant to be meeting him, but he’s a no-show. He also tells her that they are trying to find his phone, but it keeps turning off, so Rose offers to help track it.

That night, Peter is waiting at Warren's meeting point. Warren is late, but then he texts to ask if he's there yet. He tells him to get on a bus round the corner and that he’ll tell him what stop to get off at. Peter leaves his van behind to get on the bus. He says he’ll call with details, so Peter answers and then cuts the call. Warren watches the bus as Peter gets off, but doesn't see him. Peter messages that he’s in the pizza place across the street, so Warren walks towards it giving Peter the opportunity to follow him.

Unfortunately, Warren spots Peter following him and begins to run. He chases him into an abandoned theater and a fight breaks out. Warren breaks free and they continue the chase back on the streets. Peter quickly loses sight of Warren and instead runs into Rose. She alerts him that there’s another gunman pursuing him and they both start to run.

Netflix is looking back at 2023 just like the rest of us, as the streaming service has released its first-ever Netflix Engagement Report. The new report looks at the most viewed TV shows and movies from the first half of 2023. The big winner — new Netflix original series The Night Agent, which was viewed nearly 150 million more hours than the next closest show over the report's time period.

Looking out at a few more shows, the top five most-watched Netflix shows from January through June 2023 were The Night Agent with 812.1 million hours viewed, Ginny & Georgia season 2 with 665.1 million hours viewed, South Korean series The Glory season 1 with 622.8 million hours viewed, Wednesday with 507.7 million hours viewed and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story rounding things out with 503 million hours viewed.

This data all comes from Netflix's first "What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report," which the streamer says is an effort to provide more information to everyone on what titles are most popular on the streaming service. The report provides the amount of hours viewed for both original and licensed TV shows and movies (those that exceeded 50,000 hours viewed) rounded to the nearest 100,000, when the titles premiered and if they were available globally. Netflix said the report includes data on more than 18,000 titles and represents 99% of all viewing on the streaming service.

The biggest takeaway was the immediate popularity of new shows like The Night Agent and Queen Charlotte. The Night Agent amassed its 812.1 million hours viewed after premiering just about halfway through the report's timeframe (March 23), while Queen Charlotte made it all the way into the top five for the six month period despite premiering on May 4. The three other shows in the top have either premiered in late 2022 (Wednesday and The Glory season 1) or the first days of January 2023 (Ginny & Georgia season 2); though their place in the top five can speak to the shows' overall staying power.

Some other interesting tidbits from the Netflix report include one TV show that is not globally available ranking seventh in total hours viewed during the six-month period: the Mexican telenovela La Reina del Sur season 3, with 429.6 million hours viewed.

In terms of movies, the best-performing title in the report is the Jennifer Lopez action movie The Mother, coming in at 14th with 249.9 million hours viewed after premiering on May 12. The next most popular movie was Luther: The Fallen Sun, which had 209.7 million hours viewed after premiering on March 10.

When you look at non-Netflix originals, the best-performing licensed TV show during the first half of 2023 was New Amsterdam season 1, which despite not being available globally was viewed for 153 million hours.

Some data is not included in getting the full picture for these numbers, most notably the amount of time a show or movie goes for and the number of people that watched it. However, Netflix does include that in its weekly Top 10 lists, so this is just another, more macro look at the most popular shows on Netflix over a given time period.

Netflix plans to release this in-depth report twice a year, which should allow for some interesting comparisons of how new shows emerge and what has staying power. You can find the full report on Netflix's website.

The thrilling conclusion saw Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) boarding a plane, ready to take on a new mission.

It's likely that The Night Agent season 3 will follow 18 months to a year afterward, judging by the gap between the first two seasons.

The Night Agent season 2 plot (SPOILERS if you've not seen season 1!)

The first series ended with Peter Sutherland accepting the offer to work in the field after saving the life of the US President. Season 2 of The Night Agent sees Peter staking out a suspected mole in Thailand, alongside new mentor Alice (Pitch Perfect's Brittany Snow). "Alice is Peter's point of contact in Thailand," explains Snow. "She's a very skilled agent, and used to a lifestyle of solitude."

When their cover is blown, Peter goes AWOL but continues the investigation. Meanwhile, former tech CEO Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), who grew close to Peter in the opening seasons as he saved her from assassins, receives a suspicious phone call asking about him. But having departed for California to resume her career, how advisable is it to get involved? "Out of a desire to protect Rose, would Peter involve her in this life?" suggests Basso. "To be that person who's able to drop everything, you can't really have things like family."

Meanwhile, with President Travers (Kari Matchett) about to step aside, Peter faces losing one of his biggest supporters in the murky world of intelligence.

"There are people who make bad choices for what they think are the right reasons," teases showrunner Shawn Ryan. "But that's a slippery slope that leads to increased bad decisions, where suddenly you look up and you've lost your way and soul."

The Night Agent season 2 cast

Gabriel Basso returns as Peter Sutherland alongside Luciane Buchanan as Rose Larkin. Also back is Kari Matchett as President Travers. Brittany Snow joins as Peter's new mentor Alice.

Additional cast members include Amanda Warren, Arienne Mandi, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, Teddy Sears, Michael Malarkey, Keon Alexander, Navid Negahban and Rob Heaps.

We also have some character descriptions for the newcomers. Marwan Kenzari plays Reza, "a decorated soldier, court marshalled for another man’s crime, Reza was given the opportunity to be a night agent. Fiercely intelligent, with a wry sense of humor and a trigger temper, he doesn’t hesitate to become violent or lethal when backed into a corner.”

Meanwhile, Elise Kibler is Sloane, "a glamorous British socialite, smart, savvy, glib; Sloane is the girlfriend of the wealthy Tomás Bala. Sloane knows how toxic Tomás’ family is and tries to convince him to break ties."

Finally, Dikran Tulaine plays Viktor, "a smart, dangerous and manipulative man, Viktor was once the leader of his country, but has since been convicted of war crimes."

The Night Agent season 2 is produced by Sony Pictures Television Studios. Shawn Ryan (The Shield, S.W.A.T.) is the showrunner with MiddKid Productions. The executive producers include Marney Hochman with MiddKid Productions; Seth Gordon and Julia Gunn with Exhibit A; Jamie Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and Nicole Tossou with Project X; and David Beaubaire with Sunset Lane Media.

As The Night Agent continues to dominate the daily Netflix Top 10 list since its March 23 debut, it was only a matter of time before it cracked the Netflix Most Popular list. With a current total of 515.57 million hours viewed, The Night Agent has landed in the No. 9 spot on the list. 

The Night Agent’s impressively fast rise to the top comes on the heels of Wednesday’s quick rise after its debut in late 2022. Wednesday currently sits at the No. 5 spot, with Stranger Things season 4 coming in at No. 4, Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story in the No. 3 spot and the top two spots going to Bridgerton for the regency romance’s first and second season, respectively. 

Ginny & Georgia was knocked from the list to make room for The Night Agent. Netflix has a policy that new series are only tracked for the Most Popular list for the first 28 days after the premiere; as of this writing, The Night Agent has nine more days to continue racking up the views so it’s entirely possible that there will be some upward movement on the list in the coming days. 

The Night Agent has been blowing away the competition with massive viewing numbers since its debut, quickly securing a second season renewal from the streamer. 

The series is based on a novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk. The story follows a special agent, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) who becomes the target of a manhunt after taking a call from a terrified woman, Rose (Luciane Buchanan), who witnessed her aunt and uncle being murdered. Unbeknownst to Rose, her aunt and uncle were spies and they’d uncovered information that was worth killing for. 

Peter and Rose have to fend for their lives as they try to discover who is at the heart of a massive conspiracy; every episode of the 10-episode first season is filled with edge-of-your-seat intrigue as viewers follow along and try to decipher the clues.

On the heels of The Night Agent becoming one of the most-watched new series on Netflix, the streamer rewarded the spy thriller with a second season pickup. 

Netflix announced that The Night Agent would return for a second season after the series landed in the top spot of the weekly Netflix Top 10 list with an astonishing 168 million hours viewed in its first week alone.

The Night Agent is based on The Night Agent: A Novel by Matthew Quirk. It certainly looks like Netflix has a new hit show on its hands, as The Night Agent was viewed for more than 168.7 million hours, per the streaming service's weekly Top 10 list. That number is the second highest viewing time for any show on Netflix to date in 2023.

The Night Agent ended You season 4's two week run as the most-watched Netflix title following the release of its second batch of episodes. But, as mentioned, its viewing numbers in its first few days are among the best the streaming service has seen in 2023, beating You season 4 part 1's first few days and Outer Banks season 3. Only Ginny & Georgia season 2 has done better in its first week, being viewed for 180 million hours.

One other thing that The Night Agent can hang its hat on is that it earned the largest premiere numbers of any new show in 2023 on Netflix. That '90s Show was watched for 41 million hours in its first week, Lockwood & Co 25.1 million, reality show Perfect Match 24.6 million, while true crime docuseries Murdaugh Murders had 40 million and MH370 had 59.8 million. The only other new show to surpass 100 million hours in its first week was the Giancarlo Esposito-led limited series Kaleidoscope.

The Night Agent was in the top 10 of most watched Netflix shows in 93 countries for March 20-26, including being the most-watched show in the US and UK.

As far as the rest of the Netflix TV top 10, two other shows in their first week made the top 5, Love Is Blind season 4 (25.5 million hours viewed) and Waco: American Apocalypse (21.5 million hours viewed) at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Check out the full top 10 right here.

The Night Agent is a twisty political thriller that has had fans on the edge of their seats, but what happened in the end?

A lot went down throughout the 10 Netflix episodes, as we followed low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) who's already dealing with a lot, even before the events of the series really kick off.

When we first meet Peter, he prevents the death of many commuters after he spots a bomb being placed on a metro train, but unfortunately, he finds himself as a suspect instead of being congratulated.

This leads him to take a night shift job, where he's supervised by both the FBI and the President's Chief of Staff, Diane Farr (Hong Chau). At first, it seems like a pretty boring job, he's in a windowless room waiting for a phone to ring, but when it finally does, everything changes.

In fact, a single phone call changes everything and is the catalyst for a dangerous conspiracy that could get Peter killed, but it's also a chance for him to prove himself following the bomb accusations.

The Night Agent ending explained: Why did Rose call Peter?

Tech expert Rose (Luciane Buchanan) witnessed her aunt and uncle murdered by unknown people, and now they're looking for her too. However, before Rose's aunt died she gave her the Night Watch phone number and a set of codes, which she uses to alert Peter.

Peter comes to Rose's rescue, but they're not out of the woods yet and they need to find out who the assailants were and why they targeted Rose's family.

Peter and Rose eventually find out that her relatives secretly worked for the government, and they're now the targets of some very determined hitmen who want to finish what they started. 

They also uncover a conspiracy tied to the metro bombing to kill a foreign leader named Omar Zadar and make it look like a terrorist attack. This involves Peter's boss Diane Farr, and also the Vice President.

Rose and Peter manage to convince Farr to help them after she realizes her fellow conspirators have gone rogue and are planning to kill not just Zadar, but the President as well, leading to a big showdown at Camp David.

What happened at Camp David?

Diane, Rose, Peter, and Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola) all head to Camp David but all communications are down so no one can warn the President about Vice President Redfield's shocking intentions to kill her. 

The Vice President locks him and his daughter Maddie Redfield (Sarah Desjardins) away in a bomb-proof bunker, and a plan to blow up Camp David is already in motion, leading to a frantic search to locate the bomb.

Diane tries to warn the President but is shot by one of the rogue Secret Service agents, and a wounded Diane manages to tell Peter and Rose when they arrive on the scene where they need to go to restore communications at Camp David.

Maddie finally realizes how corrupt her father is, and decides to leave him there and take her chances above ground. Having found the bomb, Chelsea has evacuated the President and Zadar, and she and Maddie make their escape right before the building explodes.

Meanwhile, Peter tries to stop the President from getting in the chopper, but her Secret Service agents think he is there to kill her so he has to hold a gun to the President's head and demand they search the helicopter for the bomb, taking extreme measures to ensure her safety. 

They find it and flee the craft before it explodes, thankfully, solidifying Peter as a hero and not a corrupt agent like they once assumed. So it's quite the dramatic finale, but the President's life was saved.

Diane Farr is still alive and will stand trial for her part in the plot alongside the Vice President, with Maddie prepped to testify against her own father. Chelsea is offered the top job of being one of the President's personal Secret Service agents due to her role in stopping the President's assassination. 

What happened to Peter and Rose?

Rose and Peter refuse to be publicly acknowledged for their roles, but the President offers him a job as a Night Agent, one of the special secret agents he used to monitor the Night Watch phone.

We don't know what the future holds for Peter and Rose, though, as a final scene sees him saying a sad goodbye and promising to call her when he's able to. For now though, he boards a plane ready to take on a new assignment in his new role.

Could this set things up for a potential second season? We'll have to wait and see!

He's played by Gabriel Basso who is known for his roles in The Big C, Super 8 and Oscar-nominated movie Hillbilly Elegy.

Luciane Buchanan as Rose Larkin

Rose Larkin is a young tech entrepreneur who has fallen on tough times, but things get worse when assassins come for her relatives and she barely escapes alive. After calling a mysterious phone number at her aunt and uncle’s urging, Rose uncovers some dark truths and soon crosses paths with Peter.

This character is played by Luciane Buchanan, known for her roles in The New Legends of Monkey and for appearing in an episode of Sweet Tooth. She has also starred in two seasons of New Zealand TV show Filthy Rich.

Hong Chau as Diane Farr

Diane Farr is the White House chief of staff and the loyal, long-time friend of President Michelle Travers. She soon takes Peter under her wing as he investigates what's going on with Rose's family.

Actress Hong Chau recently starred in the movies The Whale and The Menu and has appeared in shows such as Homecoming, Watchmen, Big Little Lies, Treme and BoJack Horseman.

Enrique Murciano as Ben Almora

Ben Almora is the head of the Secret Service, who manages his team with a measured, steady hand. Not much else is known about Ben right now, so we'll have to wait and see what the series reveals!

Enrique Murciano has starred in movies such as Black Hawk Down and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and is no stranger to TV either, known for his roles in Without a Trace, Power and Bloodline.

Fola Evans-Akingbola as Chelsea Arrington

Chelsea Arrington is a hardworking Secret Service agent who is in charge of the Vice President's daughter's detail, and is also trying to prove herself and make her mark in a male-dominated field.

Actress Fola Evans-Akingbola starred in two episodes of Game of Thrones and the Striking Vipers episode of dystopian series Black Mirror. 

D.B. Woodside as Erik Monks

Secret Service agent Erik Monks is returning to his beloved job after a long hiatus, but this requires him to re-earn the trust and respect of those around him. Has he still got what it takes after all this time?

D.B. Woodside played Chief of Staff Wayne Palmer in 24 and is also known for playing Sunnydale High principal Robin Wood on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Outside of this he has starred in Parenthood, Single Ladies, Suits and Romeo Must Die. 

Sarah Desjardins as Maddie Redfield

Maddie Redfield is the daughter of the vice president and also a college student looking to escape her powerful father’s shadow. But she soon finds herself caught up in the events of the series.

Sarah Desjardins stars as Callie in Yellowjackets, Donna Sweett in Riverdale and Jenna in Impulse. 

Eve Harlow as Ellen

Ellen has simply been described as "an unpredictable killer with high-risk impulses", so we're not quite sure how she'll fit into the story as yet!

Eve Harlow has appeared in sci-fi series like Star Trek: Discovery, The 100 and Next, and the comic book series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Series creator Shawn Ryan also told Netflix more about the lead character, saying: "Peter doesn’t exist in the novel as some kind of unbeatable killing machine superhero. He’s an FBI agent, so he has some training, but he’s not Jason Bourne. 

"He’s not a trained assassin. He’s very much an underdog in the middle of all this. He’s someone who, when he’s in a fight, those bruises stick around. He’s not just miraculously recovered immediately afterwards."

The Kings of Summer star Gabriel Basso leads the cast as Peter Sutherland, the low-level FBI agent who works in the White House's basement. So far his job has been pretty quiet, but when the emergency line rings he finds himself involved in a very dangerous conspiracy.

Oscar nominee Hong Chau, who recently starred in The Whale and The Menu plays the role of Diane Farr, and Luciane Buchanan plays a terrified civilian named Rose Larkin who Peter must protect and work alongside.
