Gadd created, wrote and stars in the new drama alongside Jamie Bell, playing childhood friends Ruben and Niall, once as close as brothers, now navigating adulthood apart. But, when Ruben turns up at Niall’s wedding 30 years on from their days as carefree youngsters, it’s clear he’s changed — on edge, shifty and far from his old self, it’s not long before things build to an explosion of violence which leaves the pair reassessing their decades old friendship.

Delving back in to Ruben and Niall’s relationship from the 80s to present day, Half Man explores male relationships and toxic masculinity through the lenses of violence, brotherhood and love and looks at just how fragile these seemingly unbreakable bonds can really be, with Mitchell Robertson (Niall) and Stuart Campbell (Ruben) portraying the younger iterations of the pair.

Much of Gadd’s previous work has explored masculinity, particularly Netflix sensation Baby Reindeer, but Half Man points the lens straight at what it means to be a man in the modern world. “All of my stories explore human feelings, but this time, I wanted to come up with an idea that explores what it means to be a man in this ever-changing world through these two characters” says the writer, “I think that much of how society has been structured can lead to men having an inability to express themselves and express love and vulnerability, so it felt interesting to posit that conversation through Niall and Ruben.”

With its cartoon newspaper style opening credits, theme tune by Big George and revolving set panels - powered by a contraption involving of bicycle chains, apparently - Have I Got News for You has become a Friday night staple since its inaugural episode on 28th September 1990, featuring then-presenter Angus Deayton, team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton and the show’s first guest panellists, comedian Sandi Toksvig and journalist Kate Saunders.

After Deayton’s dismissal in 2002, the series employed a revolving door of high calibre star hosts, while Private Eye editor Hislop and comedian Merton cemented themselves as a rock solid double act with each passing biannual seasonal broadcast.

This week, the satirical current affairs show celebrates a double anniversary, as it reaches its 35th anniversary and launches its 70th series with Only Connect’s Victoria Coren Mitchell in the presenting hot seat - making this her 30th appearance on the programme and 22nd time in the host’s chair.

Slow Horses, Apple TV Plus

The Slow Horses team are now on their fifth series in less than four years, but their quick work certainly doesn't seem to be adversely affecting the show's quality, as this could well be their best investigation yet.

The six-parter sees geeky hacker Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) dragged into a terrorist conspiracy, which begins when he snares himself an implausibly glamorous girlfriend. As ever, the strength of this grimy espionage thriller lies in the wonderful character depth of the Slough House misfits, especially Jackson Lamb, with Sir Gary Oldman playing the slobbish spymaster wonderfully.

The Hack, ITV1, 9 pm (ITVX box set)

Set between 2002 and 2012, this drama intertwines two real-life stories: the uncovering of illegal phone tapping that took place at the News of the World newspaper and the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan. Stranded on Honeymoon Island, BBC1, 9 pm

Waterloo Road season 16 is here - and the big news for the new series is that stand-up comedian Jon Richardson is joining the cast.

Waterloo Road season 16 opens its doors for a new term on Tuesday, 23 September, when eight brand-new episodes land on BBC iPlayer.

Those who want to watch the series terrestrially are in for a treat as, each Tuesday, two episodes will be shown on BBC1 at 9pm, then again at 10.40pm. That's Tuesday nights sorted!

Waterloo Road season 16 cast

The big news for Series 16 of Waterloo Road is that stand-up comedian Jon Richardson is joining the cast.

The star of Meet the Richardsons and 8 Out of 10 Cats had everyone stumped when he announced via his social media earlier this year that he’d be quitting comedy to become a teacher.

There was some truth to his April Fool’s Day prank, however, when the BBC later revealed Jon was going back to school as media studies teacher, Darius Donovan.

"I'd mentioned to producers that I'd found a genuine old diary entry where, aged 15, I’d written: 'I'd love to be a comedian, but I'll probably end up being a teacher' and that’s how that prank video came about,’ Jon, 42, tells What To Watch, who joins regular cast members Lindsey Coulson as head teacher Dame Stella Drake, Adam Thomas as caretaker turned PE teacher Donte Charles, with Jason Merrells back as show favourite Jack Rimmer, in his new position as school counsellor.

"My first day on set was the most scared I've been since I started doing stand-up - but Lindsey, Jason, Adam and others were so kind. What a privilege to be in that cast - it’s like warming up for five-a-side and getting straight into the England team!"

Alongside Jon, Waterloo Road's other new faces include Fintan Buckard and Savannah Kunyo will play Stella's grandchildren, Ben and Hope, while Christine Bottomley appears later in the run as their mum - and Stella's troubled daughter Sam Drake.

The Other One's Christopher Jeffers jumps on board as Mitch Swift, the new SenCo (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator) lead.

Which other show favourites are returning?

Returning staff include James Baxter as languages teacher Joe Casey, Jo Coffey as Stella's PA Wendy Whitwell, Kym Marsh as dinner lady Nicky Walters and Hollie-Jay Bowes as Nicky's sister Debs Rafferty.

They're joined once again by Neil Fitzmaurice as history teacher Neil Guthrie, Rachel Leskovac as English teacher turned deputy head Coral Walker, Shauna Shim as music teacher Valerie Chambers and Ryan Clayton as resident police sergeant - and Joe's husband - Mike Rutherford.

Back for another term of trials and tribulations are Liam Scholes as student Noel McManus, Tillie Amartey as Stace Neville alongside Summer Violet Bird as Tonya Walters, Thapelo Ray as Dwayne Jackson, Scarlet Thomas as Izzy Charles and Cory McClane as Ashton Stone.

Also back are Hattie Dynevor as Libby Guthrie, Lucy Chambers as Libby's sister Cat plus Zak Sutcliffe as reformed bad boy Schuey Weever and Niamh Blackshaw as Schuey's Christian girlfriend Agnes Eccleston.

What do we know about the plot for Series 16?

Well, it seems new boy Darius is marking his territory the minute he arrives at Waterloo Road.

"We first see Darius taking drugs in his car then walking into school - that tells you all you need to know about him as a person," explains Jon. "A womanising sociopath, Darius comes from a military background and sees Waterloo Road as somewhere to put roots down. Early on, however, he’s caught up in a dog-eat-dog scenario that could go one of two ways: either he loses his job or someone else does, so Darius does what he needs to do to survive - and doesn’t feel guilty about it."

Surely that kind of behaviour will come back to bite him?

"Darius always believes he’s just a good guy trying to make the best of bad situations," reveals Jon. "But, later, something truly awful happens - he makes a huge mistake and doesn’t mean for it to spiral as badly as it does. He’s then chasing his own tail, trying to cover it up. Darius is fun to play because he’s confrontational, direct, brave and bold - all things I don't think I am."

What's happening elsewhere?

Stella is distracted as she struggles to integrate her estranged grandkids, Ben and Hope, at the school. With their mother Sam still in hospital, Stella is under pressure to bring her A game at home and at school - but runs into problems when Hope makes a decision that has life-threatening consequences...

"As a grandmother myself, I know you must be extra vigilant when caring for somebody else’s child," says Lindsey Coulson, who plays Stella. "For Stella to know she hadn't been, isn’t a place you’d ever want to go to. Filming those scenes was emotional."

Meanwhile, Cat Guthrie and Izzy Charles lock horns over new boy Ben, as Schuey Weever and Agnes Eccleston cause uproar when they rebel against Stella’s 'inclusive' new rules. And as Jack Rimmer returns as School Counsellor, does he have what it takes to tackle the troubles of a new generation on his first day.

Does Jack form a friendship with new boy Darius?

Darius and Jack bond, yes, over their shared histories of dealing with addiction, as Jon explains...

"Jack has had his problems with addiction and has gone away and dealt with them, Darius feels he’s on top of his own demons, so sees Jack as a kindred spirit - but the pair eventually clash," he says.

"People might be able to understand Darius defending himself when backed into a corner - but what he does to Jack is unforgivable and they’ll begin to hope Darius gets a taste of his own medicine."

Evil Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) is on a mission to find out who was responsible for killing her late husband, DI Banks (Drew Cain) in tonight’s Hollyoaks on at 7pm (See our TV Guide for full listings).

When she sees the teenagers Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith), Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) and Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) chatting out in the street, she seizes the opportunity to bundle them into her car and whisk them away from the village.

Later on she plays a twisted game of truth and dare with the scared youngsters in a bid to get to the bottom of what happened to her bent copper husband the night he was shot dead in The Loft.

Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) initially confessed to the murder to protect the teens after he was racked with guilt at exploiting them in drug and human trafficking activities.

However he has since been released from prison and Clare is yet to discover who her husband’s true killer is.

As she terrorises the teenagers, will one of them confess to the murder?

Meanwhile Rex is about to be well and truly rocked when his sister, Grace Black (Tamara Wall) drops some bombshell news that will change his life forever.

Plus, Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) who has been held captive on the Love Boat with Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) by her serial killer father, Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) starts to fear that Ste is not going to make it.

Ste has been getting progressively more and more ill and weak as he’s been unable to take his usual medication.

Tonight things take a turn for the worse when Ste falls unconscious.

Meanwhile, Sienna’s sister, Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) gets a warning call from a mystery person.

Will Liberty, who is engaged to serial killer Jez, be able to track down Liberty and Ste or will Jez get to them first?

Serial killer Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) was sent into a spin in yesterday’s episode when his ex-fiancé John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) finally worked out that Jez was the real murderer of Bobby Costello.

Jez had to take immediate action to silence John Paul, but what has he done to him?

In tonight’s Hollyoaks on at 7pm (See our TV Guide for full listings) friends and family are aghast to learn of John Paul’s fate.

Meanwhile, it’s the day of Tony Hutchinson’s (Nick Pickard) plea hearing. With everything that has been going on, his ex-wife, Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher), is too distressed to attend.

Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) and Nancy Osborne (Jessica Fox) decide to show their solidarity with Diane and also back out of going to court.

However, killer Jez has no such qualms and he and his fiancée Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) breezily announce they will go and show Tony their support.

Tony has been charged with the killing of Bobby Costello and Liberty is clueless that Bobby’s real killer is actually the man standing by her side, Jez!

Tony is a bag of nerves as he faces the stand.

Right before heading in, Diane tells Liberty and Jez that the McQueens won’t be there due to the terrible events involving John Paul McQueen.

Liberty is chilled to the bone, knowing what she told her fiancé Jez Blake, minutes before the attack on John Paul.

As the plea hearing begins, Liberty is unable to stay silent and rushes to call detective Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) about her fears involving Jez.

But is it all too late?

As the hearing for Tony continues there are dramatic and frightening scenes for the residents who find themselves embroiled in the cross fire.

Elsewhere, Grace Black (Tamara Wall) is heartbroken when her sister Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) announces that she is fleeing Chester with her daughter, Tori, in tow.

Their grandfather Froggy Black (John Middleton) isn’t heartbroken, he’s furious with Clare!

On her way out of the village, Clare comes across the teens, Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass), Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith) and Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence).

Vicky confronts Clare when she spots her carrying something suspicious.

Meanwhile Clare is more determined than ever to find out who was responsible for killing her detective husband, DI Banks (Drew Cain).

John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) finally realises that it is his ex fiancé, Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) who is Hollyoaks’ serial killer in tonight’s episode of Hollyoaks on at 7pm (See our TV Guide for full listings).

Alcoholic John Paul, who has recently relapsed, wakes up bleary-eyed after an altercation with Jez in which a memory was triggered placing Jez at the scene the night Bobby Costello (Zak Sutcliffe) was murdered.

As the penny drops, a horrified John Paul, who was passed out in the back of a cab when Bobby was killed by Jez, realises just what terrible danger everyone is in.

He races round to the Blake house to warn Jez’s new fiancée, Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) that she’s engaged to a serial killer.

However, Liberty is sceptical of John Paul who reeks of alcohol and is mumbling his warning in a blind panic.

She doesn’t believe what he’s saying and instead tells him he needs to get urgent help for his alcohol addiction and issues.

Meanwhile, evil Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) has found Jez’s two hostages, Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) and Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson), tied up on the Love Boat.

However rather than saving their lives and rescuing them, Clare realises she can use the situation to her advantage.

She decides she will blackmail Jez ,who she is convinced is the one in possession of all her late husband, DI Banks, missing cash.

Will her ruse to manipulate Jez into doing what she wants, work?

Or is it Jez who will have the upper hand?

Elsewhere, things are complicated for Sienna’s brother, Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) and her girlfriend, Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrins).

Convinced that Sienna was never coming back and was guilty of murder, Dodger and Sienna have recently grown closer and were seen sharing a kiss.

Tonight they start to suspect that Sienna may not be the serial killer after all.

The two of them put their feelings aside as they try and figure out the truth by visiting Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas Speed) in prison.

Joel is currently behind bars after confessing to the murder of Tommy Odenkirk (Brandon Fellows).

However when they talk to him, the pair realise Joel has no definite recollection of killing Tommy but that Jez Blake was at the scene of the crime!

Meanwhile, after finding out that John Paul had come to warn Liberty about him, Jez needs to shut the situation down.

At The Hutch, John Paul is brushed off by a furious Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) who is rushing to get ready for her ex husband, Tony Hutchinson’s (Nick Pickard) plea hearing.

Jez turns up and confronts John Paul, who is beginning to doubt his own memories of the night of Bobby’s murder.

John Paul vows to get sober and uncover the truth. However, Jez decides he must act fast to silence John Paul for good.

Is he planning to make his ex lover and fiancé his next victim?

Bethany is back in Weatherfield and heads straight to the police station in tonight’s episode of Coronation Street. Airs on Friday, 26th September at 8pm. See our TV Guide for full listings.

At the station, Kit’s led to an interview room where he finds Bethany.

Bethany explains how she quit her job in London, borrowed her boss’s car without permission and drove it up to Manchester and now finds herself accused of car theft. Can Kit help Bethany get out of trouble?

Later, Bethany confesses to Sarah that she quit her job before she was pushed and is back for good.

How will Daniel react to the news of Bethany’s return?

When Betsy announces that Becky’s coming for lunch, Carla forces a smile. But when Becky tries to steal a forkful of Lisa’s food off her plate, Carla’s discomfort is evident as she can't help but be reminded of their shared past.

Becky asserts that she just wants some normality, but, losing her temper, Carla tells her it’s quite obvious what she wants and it’s not normality. Telling Lisa and Becky they’re deluded, Carla stalks out.

Carla calls at the station and confides in Kit that she doesn’t believe Becky’s story and reckons there’s more to it.

Does Kit feel the same?

A worried Todd confides in Shona and Gary that he had a row with Theo last night, he stormed out and hasn’t seen him since. When Jake then calls in the Kabin and hands Brian a mobile phone, Todd’s further shaken when Brian reveals it’s Theo’s phone.

What has happened to Theo?

Hiding her emotions, Asha assures Dev that she made the right decision by retracting her complaint, but is he right?

Also, Glenda tells George she’s drawn up a list of Christina’s pros and cons, but when Christina appears she snatches the list from her hand.

Urged on by Theo, Todd joins his friends on the dance floor. As Theo heads to the loos, Owen approaches, determined to have it out with him. Theo manhandles Owen out onto the street and orders him to back off.

Who is he?

There's trouble for two-timing Abi when Debbie orders her to pack her bags and move out of No.13 or she’ll tell Kevin the whole sorry story.

Will Abi listen?

Elsewhere, George calls with some soup for Rita. Aware that she misled him into thinking Rita’s very poorly, Jenny quickly steers him out. But when Brian reveals that Rita has nothing more than a sprained ankle, how will George react?

Deeply ashamed, Jenny apologises to Rita for misleading George into thinking she was very ill and explains how she enjoyed the attention. Can Rita forgive her once more or has Jenny burned her bridges?

Things are only getting worse for poor Asha as she struggles at work. In the hospital ambulance bay, she watches the paramedics at work, feeling more alone than ever.

When Sienna calls in the shop and Dev learns that Asha is yet to return to work, he reveals to Asha that he knows she’s lying. Embarrassed, Asha storms out. Will she reveal what has happened?

Also, Tyrone comes home in a wheelchair and finds he has a welcome party when he gets back... is this the start of his long road to recovery?

Spotting Abi with a hotel key, Debbie demands answers, but Abi thinks quickly and makes out that she stayed at the hotel a while back and forgot to return the card.

When Debbie asserts that she has no recollection of her booking, Carl steps in and convinces her that her dementia is to blame. As Debbie heads off, humiliated, Abi’s unsettled by Carl’s ruthless approach.

Back at the hotel, Debbie is checking the CCTV footage for a theft when she spots Abi heading towards Carl’s room.

As Debbie hammers on the door, what will she find?

Elsewhere, Todd reveals he promised Billy he’d help at the soup kitchen, and Theo covers his annoyance. Billy calls at the bistro and is surprised to see Theo comforting Danielle.

Theo returns to the community centre, snaps at Todd and Billy and heads over to help Mary dismantle the tables.

Suddenly, Theo lets out a yell, having trapped his finger. As Todd rushes to find the first aid kit, Theo gives a self-satisfied smile

Glenda explains to Jenny and Rita how she intends to rig the dating night to ensure that Jenny gets first crack at George and not Christina.

But as Glenda draws the names, Rita calls to inform Jenny she’s had a fall, and Jenny’s heart sinks.

As Asha knocks back the drinks, Nina worries about her, and Dee-Dee reveals that James can’t baby sit, Ollie’s unfazed and suggests that Laila joins them for dinner.

Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash prepare to celebrate her eldest son Zach's 17th birthday. ITV at 70, ITVX

Raise a glass to a couple of sprightly 70-year-olds – on 22 September 1955, TV Times launched its first issue and ITV began to broadcast. The channel has entertained millions since with dramas such as Upstairs, Downstairs, The Jewel in the Crown and Downton Abbey; soaps Coronation Street, Crossroads and Emmerdale; children’s shows like the iconic Thunderbirds; and entertainment including Blind Date. You can still see many of the historic programmes – and more up-to-date ones like the award-winning Mr Bates vs The Post Office – on ITVX, and look out for new special documentaries ITV News at 70 and Around the Regions. Here’s to many more years of brilliant TV!

The Guest, BBC1, 9 pm

Parts of this psychological thriller series may have felt a little far-fetched, but any slightly wrong notes have been worth it for tonight’s brilliantly dramatic finale. Ria (Gabrielle Creevy) and Fran (Eve Myles) both find themselves in a desperate situation, and although they’ve proved their street smarts in the past, this time they may not be able to rely on their wits alone. But while Ria may have just enough ties to her old life to fall back on, Fran soon finds that doors are closed in her face at every turn. Will Fran’s survival instinct be enough to see her come out on top? And does Ria have any chance left of ‘taking the loaf’ – not just the crumbs – as Fran urged her at the beginning of their relationship?

Jamie: Eat Yourself Healthy, C4, 8 pm

Week in, week out, we’ve been impressed with Jamie Oliver’s ability to reel off fact-filled nutritional science at the same time he’s chopping away or stirring at his island hob. And we feel we’ve learnt a lot. This week’s closing focus is on the power of protein to keep energy levels stable, and dishes include a stew to boost bone health containing calcium-rich tofu and vitamin D-packed mushrooms, while a hassle-free one-cup recipe for pancakes with wholemeal flour and yogurt also fits the bill.

Coldwater, ITV1, 9 pm

No matter how annoying your neighbours may be, unless you're very unlucky they're not as terrifyingly weird as Ewen Bremner’s Tommy (the actor plays creepy and menacing so convincingly he even manages to make the word "moussaka" sound threatening). Neighbour Fiona (Indira Varma) has had enough of him, calling him "poison", and while her husband John (Andrew Lincoln) is repelled by the same behaviour, he’s bound to Tommy in ways that would horrify Fiona if she knew. But is mild-mannered John about to turn? He's under massive pressure and has had a lot to deal with, and now it’s starting to feel like his real fight-or-flight moment has just arrived.

Top Guns: The Next Generation, National Geographic, 9 pm

Following a class of students who are taking on the final stages of the US Navy's advanced fighter training programme, this six-part series reveals exactly what it takes to become an elite pilot. The documentary joins the navy and marine corps students as they attempt a series of high-stakes, high-pressure manoeuvres such as dogfighting, aircraft-carrier landings and low-level flying in order to get their coveted gold wings. In the first episode, we see the cadets carry out precision-bombing exercises and, as some pilots struggle, it’s clear that there is definitely no room for error.

Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams: Ultimate Test, BBC1, 8.15 pm

"What can you do? You can't tie him to the wickets, can you?" jokes Freddie as another recruit loses interest and wanders off the pitch in Newton Heath. Mind you, it’s starting to feel like anything might be worth a try as attendance at the Manchester cricket club drops so low that the boys can't get a team out. Led by the irrepressible Presley, can they drum up enough new players to save the side?

Meanwhile, the Blackpool girls are buzzing after their first competitive game, and the boys of Bootle have a surprise opponent for their second…

Strictly Come Dancing, BBC1, 6.40 pm

Let’s get ready to rumba! Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman are back to welcome 15 new Strictly stars, including soap actors Stefan Dennis and Balvinder Sopal, reality star Vicky Pattison and Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. Tonight’s show will be something of an easy intro for the celebrities, though, as they’re paired up with pro partners, which means they won’t have to face judges Craig, Motsi, Shirley and Anton until next week! But there is a very special group dance to look forward to, as well as a routine from last year’s winning couple, Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell. Saturday nights have just got a whole lot more sparkly!

Casualty, BBC1, 9.20pm

Opening with a nail-biting police raid – and Iain (Michael Stevenson) in tow via the Hazardous Area Response Team, of course – there are twists, turns and unexpected violence aplenty before tonight’s episode deftly changes direction without losing pace. Highlights include Siobhan playing Cupid, Nicole’s airport dash and flashbacks involving Ngozi. Meanwhile, Iain (for once the James Bond of the medical world doesn’t endanger his own life in the line of duty – although, like 007, the same can’t be said for those in close proximity to him) drops a devastating emotional bombshell in this thrilling conclusion to Supply and Demand that will leave you wanting more.

Kate: Judge My Work, Not My Clothes

Kate certainly isn’t the first Princess of Wales to have every outfit she wears scrutinised by the press, but earlier this year it appeared that she wanted the media focus to be more concentrated on her charity work, not her style choices, when it was revealed that Kensington Palace would no longer release details of her outfits whenever she had a royal engagement. This feature-length documentary looks at the links between the princess’ own style and the causes she supports, and also shows the impact of her involvement with charities.

Celebrity Race Across the World is about to return with four new celebrity duos heading on an adventure of a lifetime

The last series was an absolute cracker, and we particularly enjoyed watching Radio DJ Kelly Brook and her ultra-competitive husband Jeremy lovingly bicker throughout the whole journey. She wanted to see the sights, and he wanted to win by going on as many overnight buses as possible. They ended up coming last, so perhaps they should have just spent more time enjoying the fabulous locations!

This time, the celebs are heading to the Caribbean and the Pacific coast of Central America.

Celebrity Race Across the World line-up

The four celebrity duos embarking on the ultimate adventure are: Broadcaster and writer Anita Rani and her dad, Bal; Beyond Paradise actor Dylan Llewellyn and his mum, Jackie; partners, presenter and DJ Tyler West and actor and singer, Molly Rainford; broadcaster Roman Kemp and his sister, singer-songwriter, Harleymoon.

As normal, the celebs will have to survive without their bank cards and smartphones. Instead, they will have to struggle with local transport and limited budgets.

Route

The journey begins on the idyllic and tiny Caribbean island of Isla Mujeres, just off the easternmost point of Mexico. There are stunning beaches and amazing snorkelling opportunities, but the celebs won't have time for that as they're challenged to race 5,900km to reach the finish line in the remote and breathtaking Península de La Guajira in Colombia — the gateway to South America.

The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, C4, 8 pm

It was Bread Week in the Bake Off tent and lord of this dough-main Paul Hollywood set some tricky challenges. As well as looking back over the highs and lows, Jo Brand will commiserate with the third contestant to leave the competition, while Tom Allen checks out the wares brought into the studio by some brave home bakers. This week’s panel includes Natalie Cassidy and Kiell Smith-Bynoe.

Fawlty Towers The Play, U&Gold, 9 pm

Marking 50 years since the BBC aired the first episode of John Cleese's Fawlty Towers, this recording of the hit stage play combines three classic episodes into one storyline, and stars Adam Jackson-Smith, Anna-Jane Casey and Hemi Yeroham as Torquay hotelier Basil, his wife Sybil and Spanish waiter Manuel. It’s a reminder of just how brilliant those original scripts and performances were, but the original theatre cast members are superb in their roles, and while many of the lines are still etched in our memories, from "Don’t mention the war!" to "Que?", there’s a surprise in store, plus an onstage appearance from the great man himself.

Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out, 5, 8 pm

How much does Helen Mirren weigh? No, of course we don't mean the real Helen Mirren - we're talking about Susan Calman’s beloved camper van, named after the Oscar-winning actor. As Susan and Helen (van) head back on the road, this week they're travelling in and around the Malvern Hills, and when visiting the Black Country Living Museum, Susan can’t resist parking up at the Dudley Weighbridge Office to see how Helen measures up. Over the course of her journey she also takes a fascinating canal tour, has a ride in a Morgan motor car and visits the world’s smallest commercial theatre.

Black Rabbit, Netflix

Executive producers Jason Bateman and Jude Law lead the cast of this gritty drama as two brothers, pushed to the limit by family loyalty and the pursuit of success, who get drawn into NYC’s criminal underworld. The eight-part series centres on Jake (Law), the charismatic owner of New York’s coolest restaurant and VIP lounge, Black Rabbit. Jake appears to have life sorted, but when his wayward brother Vince (Bateman) unexpectedly returns to the business he helped set up, Black Rabbit is exposed to dangers that threaten all they’ve built up. Definitely a slow-burn, but it soon gathers pace to become a gripping melting pot of drama, intrigue and shocks galore, with performances that are just magic.

Yorkshire Great and Small with Dan and Helen, 5, 8 pm

Close friends Dan Walker and Helen Skelton are setting off to discover more of Yorkshire for a second series. This time, the pair start their journey in Great Ayton, where explorer Captain James Cook grew up, before taking an electric bike ride to view the 1,049ft Roseberry Topping hill. Later, Dan pairs up with Colin the owl for a bird of prey demonstration, while Helen is blown away by the 600-year-old Carthusian monastery Mount Grace Priory – but she’s stunned to hear the reclusive monks could only speak for half an hour per week.

The Newsreader, BBC2, 9 pm

After her admission at the end of episode two of this smart drama, Helen (Anna Torv) appears to be in free fall: professionally, her show Public Eye faces the axe; privately, her therapist offers her a distressing diagnosis. Meanwhile, her former on- and off-air partner Dale (Sam Reid) is riding high, inviting the great and the good of the Australian media to his lavish birthday party. But everything takes a back seat to the breaking story of the day – political unrest in China’s capital Beijing – and this major international news finally allows new mum and put-upon producer Noelene to speak up for herself, while also capturing the sense of revolution in the air in 1989. Continues tomorrow.

Long Lost Family, ITV1, 9 pm

Presenters Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell are back for the 15th run of the heart-warming series, which begins with the emotional reunions of two sets of brothers. Lee has always believed he was a foundling, but a very different story emerges as the experts unearth his birth certificate and trace his older sibling Stephen, who shares his own childhood experiences. Meanwhile, Peter was grabbed off a moving train and out of his mother’s arms by his father when he was a baby, and has not seen his brother Trevor since. But after more than 50 years apart, the pair are being brought back together on their late mother’s birthday.

The Dog House, C4, 8 pm

Woodgreen Pets Charity’s dog behaviour and training specialist Sue is working hard as she bids to rehome three chihuahuas, Rio, Prince and Blue Boy. They’re all long-term residents of the centre, and, what’s more, they can’t bear to be apart, so it’s a complicated challenge. George and Daisy are also inseparable, and for two such tiny dogs, they need a big garden. Plus, Bailey the Brave needs to find an owner who will help him prove he’s worthy of his name.

Acting favourites Sally Lindsay and Neil Dudgeon have teamed up to help TV Times celebrate its 70th birthday in a special photoshoot for the magazine's first-ever subscribers-only cover. And What to Watch has an exclusive behind-the-scenes video from the day!

Sally, star and co-creator of 5's hit crime drama The Madame Blanc Mysteries, and Neil, who leads ITV1's ever-popular whodunnit Midsomer Murders, have both graced the pages of TV Times – which was first published on 22 September 1955 – many times over the years.

Sally made her debut on a TV Times cover in July 2003 thanks to her role as barmaid Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street, while Neil's first cover was in October 1988 for ITV’s World War Two drama Piece of Cake, in which he played Flying Officer Lance "Moggy" Cattermole.

The popular TV crime-fighters joined TV Times at London's famous Holborn Studios in August for a party-themed photoshoot featuring a 16-foot garland of chrome and silver balloons, giant light-up numbers, as well as a showstopping pink ombre cake.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of this photoshoot," says Sally. "TV Times has been so supportive of me, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. If I get to be on a cover, honestly, I'm in tears."

"I may have one or two TV Times covers in my house!" says Neil. "They are nice memories of things that you've done, and are like little prizes, in a way. It's always really weird when you see yourself on a cover in a supermarket, though – it's like you have two different lives!"

High Potential season 2, Disney Plus (released weekly)

The quirky crime drama starring Kaitlin Olson as cleaner-turned-police consultant Morgan Gillory returns for a second season. The first (based on the French series HPI with Spiral’s Audrey Fleurot) followed the progress of Morgan, who had previously seen her "high intellectual potential" as a curse rather than a blessing until the LAPD recruited her, and her condition for joining them was that they would help her locate her missing first husband. Season 1’s finale left us with a cliffhanger in that regard, plus another strong storyline, and Season 2 picks up from there.

The Morning Show season 4, Apple TV+ (released weekly)

As the acclaimed newsroom drama returns for a fourth run, the merger of the TV networks has brought changes. While Alex (Jennifer Aniston) is juggling her role as an executive with her presenting duties, she is soon caught up in controversy following an interview with an Iranian athlete. Elsewhere, her ex-colleague Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) gets a chance to come back in from the cold to rejoin The Morning Show, and former CEO Cory (Billy Crudup) is facing a battle in Hollywood. Look out for Marion Cotillard as Celine Dumont, the imposing new board member, and Jeremy Irons is on fine form as Alex’s estranged lecturer dad Martin Levy.

Stranded on Honeymoon Island, BBC1, 9pm (also available on day on iPlayer)

As we head back to the Philippines, there are now six honeymooning couples again after one "flared out" and left and a new one joined the others. While they've all had their issues, none has probably been discussed more than Oliver’s supposedly jokey, off-the-cuff comment to Taniae. But after last week’s Couples’ Cove, when a movie night turned out to be a screening of the original speed-dating event back in London, there’s a new bombshell to deal with – and the fallout carries on tonight. Continues until Friday.

Gen V season 2, Prime Video (first three episodes, then weekly)

The Boys spin-off following college-aged superheroes, aka "Supes", returns for a second season. As America adjusts to Homelander’s authoritarian rule, new principal Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater) implements a chilling regime at Godolkin University. Marie (Jaz Sinclair) and Emma (Lizze Broadway) are reluctant to fall in line, while Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann) are crowned the Guardians of Godolkin. Expect crossover cameos from The Boys stars Erin Moriarty (Starlight) and Chace Crawford (The Deep), plus Season 2 will honour actor Chance Perdomo, who died in a motorcycle accident last year, by respectfully addressing his character’s absence in storylines.

The Hack is a new 7-part series on ITV that takes a fresh look at the phone hacking scandal that engulfed the News of the World.

Written by BAFTA, Tony and Olivier award-winning screenwriter, Jack Thorne (the man behind Adolescence and Toxic Town), The Hack is produced by the same team who brought us Mr Bates vs The Post Office and boasts an all-star cast including David Tennant, Robert Carlyle and Toby Jones.

Speaking of the series, Jack Thorne said: "This is a strange and deceptive piece of our recent history. One with so many layers to it. I thought, as someone who is interested in politics, I understood everything that happened. I did not. It’s a fight for the truth that really shocked me. That is why it matters to tell this story now in an age where the truth seems more in danger than ever.

"It is a true honour to be bringing this story to the screen alongside David, Robert, Toby, Lewis, Patrick, Joe and Abi. I hope we find a way to do justice to the complexity of what happened and of celebrating the incredible reporting that sits underneath it."

The Hack release date

The Hack will land on ITV1 on Wednesday, September 24 at 9 pm.

All seven episodes of the series will also land on ITVX as a box set on Wednesday, September 24.

The Hack plot

Set between 2002 and 2012, the series intertwines two real-life storylines, beginning with that of investigative journalist Nick Davies (Rivals’ David Tennant), who receives an anonymous tip-off about the News of the World intercepting private voicemails.

As Nick tenaciously gathers evidence of how the paper was using illicit methods to secure splashy headlines, the drama also examines an investigation by Metropolitan Police detective Dave Cook (The Full Monty’s Robert Carlyle, who appears from Episode 2) into the still-unsolved 1987 murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

"Dave’s story was new to me, and we thought it’d be interesting to tell it separately to Nick’s and then twist them together," says BAFTA-winner Jack. "It’s about great journalism and remarkable people who are brave."

Alongside David Tennant as investigative journalist Nick Davies, the cast also features Mr Bates vs The Post Office star Toby Jones as former editor-in-chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger, who becomes Nick’s ally in his crusade. Meanwhile, Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9) plays Rupert Murdoch, whose company, News International, owned the News of the World, and Jordan Renzo (The Spanish Princess) plays his son James Murdoch. The Full Monty’s Robert Carlyle plays Metropolitan Police detective Dave Cook.

They're joined by the likes of Rose Leslie (Miss Austen), Dougray Scott (Crime), Eve Myles (Torchwood), Adrian Lester (Hustle), Katherine Kelly (Protection), Kevin Doyle (Line of Duty), Neil Maskell (Hijack) and Lara Pulver (Spooks).

Lee Ingleby (The Long Shadow), Pip Torrens (Poldark), Lisa McGrillis (Rivals), Sean Pertwee (The Night Caller), Robert Bathurst (Cold Feet) and Richard Pepple (The Rig) also star.

The cast is rounded out by Nadia Albina (Passenger), Phil Davis (Whitechapel), Ace Bhatti (Alex Rider) and Charlie Brooks (EastEnders).

David Tennant reveals how journalism and justice collide in the drama…

How does it feel to be portraying the man who helped uncover one of the UK’s darkest media scandals?
"It’s an honour to be telling Nick’s story. He’s a great investigative journalist because he can smell where the story is and uncover it. He’s like a dog with a bone when he senses injustice, malpractice or deception. The story we tell is that he’s not an uncomplicated individual, but he’s someone who did something very heroic."

Did you meet him?
"We hung out before filming and it was great to get a sense of what motivates him. He fulfilled my expectations. He also visited us on set when I was wearing the wig, which is not a direct copy of how he looks, but a nod in that direction. I think it would be quite odd to see somebody being a spectre of you, but I hope he’s pleased with what we’ve done."

Can you tell us about his dynamic with Alan Rusbridger, played by Toby Jones?
"Jack created that relationship in the way he wrote the two characters, but it’s absolutely based on reality. They have a deference for each other that’s moving. They see how they bring out the best in each other, and playing opposite Toby made that very easy. He’s someone I look up to professionally, and he’s a wonderful, twinkly, warm presence."

The drama boasts an incredible cast, which also includes Katherine Kelly, Eve Myles, Rose Leslie, Dougray Scott, Lee Ingleby and Adrian Lester…
"We have a Rolls-Royce of a cast! People who should be leading a series would come in and play roles with relatively little screen time, but they make so many moments sing. Robert is great casting for Dave, too. We’d never met before this, which is weird as we’re both from the homeland."

And what does telling the story from two different angles bring?
"It’s fascinating and bold, but then Jack does bold storytelling like no one else. Nick and Dave’s stories take you on slightly different journeys, until those two journeys collide. Jack found a way in through these two characters who were living separate lives but discovering the same unpleasant truth. It’s thrilling to watch!"

The Hack has been commissioned for ITV by Director of Drama, Polly Hill and will air on ITV1 and STV and will be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.

The drama has been directed by BAFTA award winning director Lewis Arnold (Time, Sherwood, The Long Shadow) and is executive produced by BAFTA, Peabody and RTS award winning Patrick Spence, (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, A Spy Among Friends, Adult Material), who is the Managing Director of AC Chapter One.

Jack Thorne (Adolescence, His Dark Materials, Help, National Treasure, Enola Holmes) also executive produces alongside Joe Williams (Mr Bates vs The Post Office). Abi Bach, producer of multi award-winning dramas (The Honourable Woman, Black Earth Rising, And Then There Were None) is the Series Producer.

Annalisa Dinnella (Sex Education, Ralph & Katie) has written one of the episodes and has co-written two of the episodes with Jack Thorne.

Rob Brydon is to host an ITV version of Hollywood actor Rob Lowe's monster hit US game show The Floor.

However, while on the American quiz the grand prize is $250,000, the UK winner will have to settle for a more modest £50,000. ITV is looking for contestants and you can apply now.

Rob will no doubt be hoping The Floor is as successful for ITV as his Would I Lie To You? co-star Lee Mack's quiz The 1% Club.

The Floor will see 81 quiz fantatics battle it out on a giant LED floor divided into 81 equal squares. A bit like Mastermind, each contestant picks their own specialised subject of knowledge, which could be anything from babies to fruits to kids' movies.

ITV says: "The goal is to conquer the entire floor and take home a huge cash prize. The rules are simple. A random contestant challenges an adjoining opponent in a quiz duel. They play against each other in the category of the opponent's square.

"The winner of a duel conquers their opponent's square, gaining more ground — the loser leaves the game. The further the game progresses, the more exciting the duels become and the higher the stakes. After ten episodes, who will be the last person standing on The Floor and take home £50,000?”

As well as America, The Floor also has versions in over 20 countries, including Australia, Poland, and Spain.

Rob Brydon said: “The Floor is a quiz show like no other – big, bold and bursting with excitement. I’m thrilled to be stepping onto it and guiding the contestants through the competition. Let’s light up the floor!”

Laurel can't believe her ears when Gabby admits she slept with someone while she was over in Portugal visiting Bernice.

But Gabby doesn't want to hear a word of Laurel's pleas for her to tell Vinny about her betrayal. Instead she wants to focus on her family unit coming together now Vinny's agreed to officially adopt Thomas.

However, Vinny's secret could ruin that too.

Having gone to the police about violent homophobe Mike – who catfished sexually-confused Vinny and attacked him – a court case is now looming.

Though Vinny doesn't want anyone to go through what he experienced, he doesn't want Gabby to know he was questioning his sexuality in the run up to their wedding.

Will Vinny agree to stand as a witness against evil Mike knowing it could lead to Gabby finding out about his secret?

Realising something must be seriously wrong for Liam to have to do such a thing, Manpreet forces the mortified doctor to get it addressed.

With an appointment booked, Liam then has to raise the matter with his girlfriend Chas who's had breast cancer and lost her mum to the disease.

How will Chas react when her partner tells her he's being checked out for prostate cancer?

It's one thing after another for Chas who's got a lot going on right now.

But another stress is added to her list when she clocks Charity and Ross looking really sketchy.

They're talking about the pregnancy, of course.

Though Chas hasn't a clue that Charity might be carrying Ross' kid rather than Sarah and Jacob's – one thing she does now know is that something is going on between the pair.

When Charity sneaks off to get a DNA test to find out whose baby she's carrying, will Chas press her for answers?

Elsewhere, as Paddy tries to be a father-figure to Dylan he offers to teach the lad to drive.

Paddy doesn't realise he has a rival in ruthless Ray who's got all bases covered when it comes to Dylan and his girlfriend April.

Later, Dylan's stunned when the dealer surprises him with a super generous gift not twigging that Ray's just locking him in.

April's taken aback when she runs into her druggy boss in the Hide where he charms his way round giddy Laurel.

When Ray tells April that their debt is still huge, she's unable to say no when he suggests there's a faster way they can clear it.

In a remote carpark, Ray schools April in how to deal drugs rather than just drop them off.

After she pulls off a demo deal, Ray gives April a burner phone and with that. she's fully recruited.

In the pub, April and Dylan reckon their future is looking rosy unaware that puppet master Ray will be the judge of that…

Though Charity's trying to convince herself that the surrogacy has worked and that she's carrying her granddaughter Sarah's baby, she knows there's a huge possibility her drunken night with Ross has landed her carrying another of his kids.

How much longer can she keep up the act?

There's trouble up at the Depot where, as per usual, Jai and Caleb are clashing.

'General manager' Jai can't stand the way Caleb runs the business and thinks he's being way too casual about procedure.

Meanwhile newbie Dylan is trying to make a good impression on his bosses but Ray's doing him no favours.

Dylan's caught like a rabbit in the headlights when his drug dealer boss pitches up and insists he's taking him off on a driving lesson.

Over at the cafe, Liam's trying to have a quiet cuppa when Claudette starts up about his bladder problem.

Emmerdale's Dylan just can't escape Ray in Monday's episode (ITV, 7.30pm, see our TV Guide for full listings).

Ray's hold on Dylan and April just gets tighter and tighter. He's got them doing whatever he pleases, whenever he pleases unaware that the debt they're in to the druglord is nothing but a ruse of his own making.

April's recent frank, and fierce chat with the dealer just seems to have tightened the confusing bond thanks to manipulative Ray's mind games.

When the teenager apologises to Ray for all she said, his ears prick up as she reveals Dylan's been hired at the Depot.

No sooner as Dylan put on his high-vis than Ray's there, prowling.

Given that Caleb's business is a delivery service, Ray realises this could work really well for him. Dylan's heart sinks when he twigs that Ray is about to pollute his new start with his druggy demands.

At the cafe, April runs into Ross and clearly wants to offload. But Ross is super distracted by his phone and is only half listening to the troubled teen who suggests she's in trouble with someone but doesn't reveal that it's way more than just a spat with a mate.

Over at the surgery, Claudette is determined to get Liam checked out.

Having found him taking a pee at the allotments, she went on to learn that the GP is constantly getting caught short and wants her boss to address the issue.

Insisting that it's way too busy at work to take time out, Liam tells Claudette to cancel it.

Newly married Iain Dean finds his relationship with Faith is hanging by a thread as the latest 12-part storyline, Supply and Demand ends!

Since learning that his alcoholic mother, Kim, was dying, the paramedic has slowly shut down on his wife. Meanwhile, he’s been confiding in the couple’s bridesmaid Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless).

This week Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) is stunned when consultant Stevie reveals that Kim died three days ago… It’s no picnic for Stevie either, as she feels forced into revealing the truth to a clearly hurting and confused Faith after Iain (Michael Stevenson) started ignoring her calls.

“Iain’s not very good at expressing his emotions,” explains Kirsty Mitchell, who plays advanced clinical practitioner Faith, when she joins What To Watch for an exclusive interview. “She tries to give him space because she realises how big a deal losing his mum is.”

Death on duty?

While Faith is coming to terms with Iain’s secrecy the man himself is on a nail-biting police raid with the HART team. There are twists, turns and unexpected violence aplenty as the emergency services do everything in their power to take down Holby’s drug dynasty.

Just when they think they’ve got the masterminds where they want them, however, the episode deftly changes direction as married criminal kingpins, Imogen Yates (Natasha Atkinson) and her husband, make a desperate last bid for freedom.

For once, Iain - the James Bond of the medical world - doesn’t endanger his own life in the line of duty - although, like 007, the same can’t be said for those in close proximity to him…

Iain’s realisation

Back at the ED, Iain realises the severity of his actions, but also the reasons why he takes deadly risks and is in a state of shock as this sinks in.

At the end of their shift, Faith reaches out to her husband but is left speechless when he delivers a devastating home truth.

“It’s a massive heartbreaking shock and, for Faith, it comes from nowhere,” says Kirsty. “I can’t say anything more - but it gets really juicy after that.” Full interview with Kirsty Mitchell coming soon.

Could this be the end of the road for the couple?

Flynn caught in the act

Once again Holby ED is facing an emergency situation and clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is nowhere to be seen. When he does finally turn up, it’s clear he’s had a late night and, no matter what he thinks, his desk-deodorant isn’t as effective as he believes!

Fed up but also concerned, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) attempts to talk to Flynn about his behaviour and points out that he has a problem, which Flynn arrogantly shrugs off. But later, after nurse Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell), finds Flynn in a state of undress with a patient’s mother, he begins to unravel.

After hooking up with Layla Kelly (Lauren Cornelius, Gavin & Stacey) in a supply cupboard, her teenage daughter Molly (Alis Waters, The Flatshare) suffers a seizure due to a bleed on the brain. When Dylan rushes to save her he learns what Flynn has been up to!

With his future now in Dylan’s hands, Flynn desperately tries to redeem himself.

But is it too little too late?

Also in Casualty this week

Viewers may experience warm fuzzy feelings during this episode because love is in the air for Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) and Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak), as their cute relationship really starts to blossom.

This feeling continues, as we learn more about Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) and his family. Could this herald a change in fortunes for the over-worked medic and dedicated father?

Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) also gets some good news that he, of course, shares with best pal Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari), which warms the cockles.

Sadly, however, doctor Nicole Piper (Sammy T. Dobson) is in a state of distress as she realises that she may never see nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) again.

Fortunately clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) steps in to save the day she when helps Nicole make a romantic dash to the airport. But with everything seemingly against them, will they make it there before it's too late?

Meanwhile, at Holby Airport, Ngozi’s son, Obi (Aryel Tsotois) is excited to be returning home to Nigeria permanently with his mum. However, Ngozi doesn’t feel the same way, no matter how much she tries to pretend otherwise.

We really don’t want to reveal anything further about this storyline for fear of spoiling it, but all we will say is that Casualty, after nearly 40 years on our screens, has lost none of its power to shock us, move us and bring us to tears, while leaving us wanting more.

Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) knows she has no option but to MURDER her deranged serial killer father, Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) in tonight’s Hollyoaks on at 7pm (See our TV Guide for full listings).

Jez has framed Sienna for the spree of murders including that of her sister, Dilly Harcourt, Robbie Roscoe and Dennis Savage.

Recently he has been keeping her a prisoner on the Love Boat and drugging her with sedatives as he works out what to do with her next.

Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) is also trapped with Sienna and is struggling badly as his health takes a dangerous turn for the worse.

In tonight’s episode Sienna promises her good friend Ste that she’ll kill Jez as soon as her father arrives back.

However their plan is derailed when a different face turns up on the boat.

Who has discovered them? And will they help them escape or will they leave them there to suffer?

Elsewhere, Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) receives a call from her ex husband, Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) who tells her there’s been an update on his case.

Tony is currently behind bars for the suspected killing of Mercedes McQueen’s (Jennifer Metcalfe) son, Bobby Costello.

Tonight Tony has to break the shattering news that John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) has come forward with more information and it’s NOT good news.

Meanwhile, Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and her sister, Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) have something to celebrate at last. Clare encourages Grace to put on a casino night at The Loft to make the most of their good news.

Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor-Dawson) heads there later on and starts gambling in a bid to pay off all the Osborne family debts.

However his son Charlie Dean (Charlie Behan) finds him and tries to stop a drunk Darren from doing anything he will bitterly regret.

Will Darren, who is in emotional turmoil right now, take any notice ?

Earlier on Cleo has an emotional time when she goes to visit her ex, Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) in prison.

Joel was recently seen attacking fellow inmate, Tony Hutchison (Nick Pickard).

Cleo is horrified and goes to see Joel wanting to know if what she has heard is true.

However she finds Joel in a very despondent state and she’s worried about him when he says he can’t remember anything.

Trying to lift him out of his fog, Cleo breaks some news to him.

Will she reveal that she is pregnant with his baby son?

Meanwhile Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) is DEVASTATED when she overhears Dodger showing Cleo the list of murder victims that he found.

When Vicky learns that her ex fiancé’s name, Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham), is on the list she is heartbroken to realise he could be dead.

With Cleo also in turmoil, she turns to Dodger for emotional support but things get a little too cosy between the pair of them.

Sienna’s father, Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) watches as the two of them grow closer.

Are they about to share a kiss?

Elsewhere, Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) who has been kept prisoner by Jez, along with Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) is struggling as he has been unable to access his medication and his health is in rapid decline.

However, Sienna is about to take action and tells Ste that she is planning on KILLING her father Jez, that night.

Will she go through with it?

Later, when Dodger visits the Osborne family looking for information on Robbie it’s all too much for Robbie’s brother, Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor-Dawson).

Darren has recently been floored by the bombshell that he is not the biological father of his daughter Morgan.

Now he is also being dealt the shock news that his brother may be dead.

When his wife Nancy (Jessica Fox) tries to console him, he angrily pushes her away.

Meanwhile, Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins) who’s recently been released from prison, arranges a meal for him and Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell). However he’s left rattled when he comes face-to-face with evil Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix).

Clare has some cruel words for him that cut him to the core.

During their date, Peri confesses she’s worried she’ll crumble soon with everything she’s been through.

Tom reassures her he’ll stay in the village if that’s what she needs.

Later, Peri asks Marie Fielding (Rita Simons) for advice on what she should do with Tom.

However when talking to Marie, Peri is surprised to notice there’s something different about Marie.

What has she clocked?

Plus, John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) goes to the police to give a statement about the night that Bobby Costello was killed.

Who is he going to name as the guilty party and how will it impact Tony?

Mercedes was recently floored when she discovered she was pregnant with Tony Hutchinson’s (Nick Pickard) baby.

Old friends Tony and Mercedes had enjoyed a brief fling before Mercedes was devastated to believe that Tony was responsible for killing her son, Bobby Costello.

Tony is currently in prison awaiting trial and Mercedes is crumbling under the weight of her secret.

Tonight she confides in her mum Myra and tells her that she is pregnant with Tony’s child!

How will Myra take the SHOCK news?

Later on Mercy loses her temper with her brother John Paul McQueen (James Sutton).

Alcoholic John Paul has been getting drunk again and is still unable to identify the voice that he heard in his flashback of the day Bobby was killed.

An angry Mercedes lashes out at him and tells him he needs to follow her orders on what to tell the police.

What exactly does she want him to say ?

Meanwhile, Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin) takes Sienna Blake’s (Anna Passey) clothes that she’s retrieved to detective Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) hoping that it may be useful evidence.

Dodger is working at home on the case and is trying to piece together a case that would pinpoint who the serial killer is.

However, Dodger is later horrified to see that someone in his family has put the clothes in the washing machine therefore destroying any evidence.

The true serial killer, Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) blames his mother Martha Blake (Sherrie Hewson) for the washing machine “mistake”.

Meanwhile Dodger finds Sienna’s list of names that she made when she worked out her own father Jez was the killer.

However, when Dodger sees it he immediately assumes it’s Sienna’s list of all her victims.

Jez is rubbing his hands with glee when Dodger seems to have yet more evidence that his own sister is the killer.

Elsewhere, Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) tells her ex-husband, Tony that she loves him and the two of them agree that they are going to start all over again and make their relationship work.

However, later on Diane is distressed when she sees that Tony has been badly beaten up in prison.

Will he reveal who attacked him?

Plus, Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) is demanding answers from his wife Nancy (Jessica Fox) following some recent SHOCKING revelations involving him.

Kevin tells Tyrone about his breakup with Abi and how he suspects she might be having an affair with Carl. Tyrone shares his own frustration over the hit and run and how the police are no nearer to finding out who was responsible.

In the hotel bedroom, Abi snuggles up next to Carl and suggests it’s time for them to run away together and start a new life. Carl tries to make light of the situation and when Debbie Webster pays him a visit, she is shocked to find Abi there.

Bernie confides in Dev that, according to Kit, it’s going to be difficult to bring charges against Naomi as they only have Asha’s word for what happened. At the careers fair, Bernie locates Naomi’s laptop. As Naomi takes the stage and clicks on the first slide, she’s horrified by what she sees.

Bernie explains to the shocked audience how Naomi abused Asha, a paramedic and woman of colour. Nina and Amy film the proceedings on their phones while Ryan calls a halt to the event. Having watched the video, Asha rounds on Bernie for interfering. Later, Naomi barges into No.7 and announces that she’s suing Bernie for defamation.

Todd does his best to appear upbeat when Theo excitedly reveals that Miles and Millie are coming to say and orders him to get the flat looking spick and span.

When Millie reveals that the only reason they’ve come to visit is because they’re legally required to see him, Theo’s cut to the quick.

Jenny invites George to join her for lunch but he declines, making out he’s got to clean the funeral parlour.

Later, Jenny calls at the undertakers with her mop but quickly leaves when she finds that George has already enlisted Christina’s help.

Dee-Dee and Ollie join Adam and Alya for lunch in the bistro. But Dee-Dee is embarrassed when Ollie criticises the food.

At the hospital, the doctor gives Kevin the all clear during his cancer check, and while Kevin is flooded with relief, Abi Franklin hides her unease, especially when Kevin states he’s looking forward to them growing old together.

Abi meets up with Carl and tells him she hates leading a double life and lying to Kevin. Back at home, Kevin suggests they spend their retirement doing up old cars. Abi steals herself and drops the bombshell that she thinks they should break up.

Dev persuades a reluctant Asha to let him take her for lunch at the hotel. But she’s shaken when she comes face to face with Naomi, who’s there planning a careers fair.

She reminds Naomi how she tried to help her when she was drunk, but in return, she was abused and spat upon. Naomi denies all knowledge and warns Asha against making unfounded allegations.

Asha returns home in tears and tells Bernie about her run-in with Naomi and how she played dumb. Bernie heads out, a woman on a mission. But what is she planning to do?

Fiz admits to Maria that she’s feeling the strain with Tyrone in hospital.

Later, Todd confides in Maria that he’s mystified by Theo’s reaction to the news about Noah when all he ever did was make Theo’s life a misery. But he’s unaware that Theo is listening in, his face darkening.

upset and hurries away. When Becky calls, Carla asserts that it would be best for everyone if she went back to playing dead.

Becky reveals that she’s moving into a rented flat nearby and Lisa Swain is forced to agree when Betsy suggests Lisa could help her move her stuff. As they wait in the car together, having run out of fuel, Becky discusses Carla.

Elsewhere, Carla tells Ryan that she trusts Lisa implicitly, but Carla masks her unease when Ryan wonders if she trusts Becky to the same degree.

As they arrive in court for the hearing, Dee-Dee warns Theo to keep a cool head. Danielle’s barrister questions Theo about his violent temper and accuses him of assaulting Miles. Theo assures him it was an accident but as Noah makes derogatory remarks under his breath, Todd loses his temper and lunges at him.

Abi quizzes Carl about Tracy and he makes out that he fed her a sob story, she bought it and won’t be bothering them again.

Abi thanks Tracy for backing off, but Abi’s horrified when Tracy reveals she didn’t have much choice as Carl got someone to trash her shop and threatened to hurt her Dad.

As Todd is escorted out by security, Noah allows himself a smug grin. Will Theo be granted access to his kids?

Noah finds the pair at the bistro and, asserting that Danielle won’t back down, makes homophobic jibes. When Theo refuses to rise to the bait, Noah leaves fuming. However, Danielle later arrives with some shocking news about Noah.

Bernie voices her concerns about Asha to Dev and he admits that she’s been spending a lot of time in her room. After some persuasion from Bernie, Asha agrees to help Ryan with the careers fair at the hotel, unaware that the guest speaker is the woman who abused her.

Evelyn masks her disappointment and tells Fiz that she’s decided to give up university as it’s expensive and is a young person’s game.

In a surprise turn of events, Lauren Branning (Jacquline Jossa) wants to meet the MYSTERY mum Demi (Lucy Edington-Brown), who has befriended her fiance, Peter Beale (Thomas Law).

Peter is both surprised and alarmed when he finds Lauren, her cousin Penny (Kitty Castledine) and Demi having a laugh together in Bridge Street Cafe!

After discovering that Lauren is bored and wants more excitement in their relationship, Peter starts to make a plan...

ELSEWHERE, Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) wastes no time in asking Jasmine (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) out on a date!

But Jasmine's new boss, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), once again warns her to steer clear of the troublesome Branning.

Will Jasmine take Cindy's advice and reject Oscar?

At The Albert, Jasmine (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) makes a good impression on boss Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).

But Cindy has some words of warning for Jasmine about the troublesome lad!

Vicki Fowler (played by Alice Haig) is happy to have her older sister Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) home again on EastEnders (7:30pm - see our TV Guide for listings).

Sharon still has her own score to settle with Zoe after all these years.

But she is stopped in her tracks when Zoe drops a SHOCK bombshell revelation...

Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) is impressed by a sparky girl called Jasmine (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness, from the Sky TV drama series, Save Me) who comes looking for a job at The Albert.

However, it's not long before both Cindy and Jasmine manage to get on the WRONG side of Jean Slater (Gillian Wright)...

Sewing Bee final, BBC1, 9 pm

In what is a testament to the skills of tonight’s three finalists, they face some truly complicated challenges. First, in the Pattern, they tackle a bias cut slip dress – it may look fabulous, yet creating a cowl neckline is anything but.

Next, in what one sewer calls "the worst Transformation Challenge I’ve ever had", they make outfits from sheer fabrics, choosing what to reveal and conceal. Then, with friends and family as models, the Made to Measure is a trompe l’oeil outfit, presenting a realistic optical illusion. The finalists are all so close in ability, creativity and personal loveliness, that we’re with Esme Young when she worries, "It’s going to be really hard to judge."

Michael Palin in Venezuela, 5, 9 pm

For years Michael Palin has beamed the wonders of the world into our living rooms and, thankfully, the veteran adventurer shows no signs of putting his feet up. In this three-parter, filmed last year when he was 81, Michael ventures to Venezuela as it faces immense challenges.

His journey begins in Caracas, where he gets to grips with the dichotomy of political and economic turmoil versus a nation populated with friendly people and breathtaking beauty, as he makes his way to the Angel Falls in the Amazon rainforest. Horizon-broadening and charming TV.

The Great British Bake Off, C4, 8 pm

It’s Bread Week and the bakers can be forgiven for being more nervous than usual when Paul Hollywood approaches their bench.

In the Signature, they must produce a savoury monkey bread, while the Technical challenge is to make 12 glazed ring doughnuts ("my guilty pleasure," confesses Paul). The Showstopper – a celebratory sweet bread with at least three tiers – offers a chance to turn things around, but who will prove to be this week’s breadwinner and who will knead to say their goodbyes?

The Sky Arts Awards, Sky Arts & Sky Showcase, 9 pm

As a popular stand-up, musician, actor – and bona fide dancer following his Strictly win in 2020 – we can’t think of anyone better to host these highbrow awards than Bill Bailey. Broadcast live from London’s Roundhouse, the ceremony, now in its second year, remains the only night of the year when poets, sopranos and the like join actors, dancers and musicians under one roof to honour their achievements over the past 12 months.

Knowing how fond Bill is of a musical mash-up, we can probably expect a special performance or a surprise cha-cha-cha!
