If you're wanting to watch content from the streaming service Hulu on your Vizio TV, you might be having issues. While Vizio's sets have great visual quality, their operating systems can often be a little bit complicated.

Paramount Plus is the streaming service from the US giant Paramount (formerly ViacomCBS), which is home to some of the biggest entertainment brands across the world.

There will be a plethora of live sports on Paramount Plus. The NFL is the first one you're probably hoping for, and, yes, you can watch the NFL on Paramount Plus. (That almost certainly will be limited to whatever your regional weekly CBS game is each week, however, because that's how NFL broadcasts work.) It will host the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, which pits the best football clubs in Europe against each other. South American football is on the service, too, with the Liga Profesional de Fútbol in Argentina, and Brazil's Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. The Paramount Plus price in other countries varies a little but is in line with the US price. 

For example, in the UK the new Paramount Plus streaming service costs £6.99 a month or £69.90 annually (with a seven-day free trial available) at launch.

HBO Max is continuing to grow as a streaming service, having recently announced new subscriber numbers of about 47 million combined for HBO and HBO Max. HBO Max can be accessed directly on multiple streaming devices and smart TVs, but is Vizio one of them?

First off, HBO Max is the WarnerMedia-owned streaming service that brings together thousands of hours of current and classic HBO and Warner Bros. shows and movies, including fan favorites like Friends, Game of Thrones, The Dark Knight and the Ocean’s 11 franchise. It also has specialty channels for Turner Classic Movies, DC, Looney Tunes, as well as its own slate of HBO Max Originals.

Someone interested in subscribing to HBO Max has a couple of options. There are two tiers, a $9.99 ad-supported plan, which in addition to the ads has a couple other content limitations, and the $14.99 ad-free, all access plan.

So, can a Vizio TV owner start watching HBO Max simply through their smart TV? Let’s examine.

How to watch HBO Max on Vizio TV

The fact of the matter is that, unlike other streaming devices and smart TVs, HBO Max is not directly available through a Vizio TV. However, there are ways to watch HBO Max on a Vizio TV besides directly downloading the app.

According to the Vizio website, consumers can smartcast HBO Max to their Vizio TV from either their mobile device (through Google Chromecast) or Apple AirPlay.

To smartcast, the user must first make sure that their mobile or Apple device and Vizio Smartcast TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. Then they log in to HBO Max on the device and start watching a TV show or movie. When the AirPlay or Cast icon appears, hit it and select the SmartCast TV you want to stream to. After a few seconds the content should be playing on the TV.

At this time it is unclear if/when HBO Max will develop an app that can be directly available for Vizio TVs, but hey, at least there’s more than one way to start watching all of what HBO Max has to offer.

YouTube TV is finally coming to the Vizio SmartCast platforming, meaning you'll be able to watch one of the most popular live streaming services in the United States on a Vizio TV without any other hardware, and without resorting to Chromecast or AirPlay.

The gist is this: You'll be able to get to YouTube TV via the YouTube app on SmartCast. (See, Roku, Google adding YouTube TV to the YouTube app as a workaround for that little tiff y'all are in wasn't just them poking the bear — it was planned all along. Maybe.)

The YouTube TV Twitter account dropped the news, along with the pretty major caveat: You'll need a Vizio TV that's no older than a 2020 model to make any of this happen.

We don't know the precise model list just yet. 

The news comes a few weeks after Google and YouTube introduced the same scheme on Roku, albeit under (presumably) very different circumstances. Google and Roku have had a very public feud over the past month, leading the latter to remove the YouTube TV app from its platform. Google responded by baking access to YouTube TV inside the YouTube app, which Roku almost certainly would not be so quick to remove.

Whether that has anything to do with YouTube TV finally coming to Vizio SmartCast in the same manner is unclear, or whether someone merely said "You know what, that'd work great for Vizio, too!"

Either way, it's a good thing for Vizio customers. Look for YouTube TV inside the updated YouTube app any day now.

Vizio's first OLED television sets — which we first took a look at back at CES 2020 almost 200 years ago in the Beforetimes — are now available at Best Buy. And they're already seeing a slight discount.

The big deal here is that Vizio TVs tend to compete with the top-shelf models of other brands while landing with a lower price. And that's the case here, too, with the 55-inch model starting at $1,299, and the 65-incher at $1,999. Only, they're already discounted by $100. So that's $1,199 and $1,899.

And the big deal about OLED versus other technologies? Every individual pixel and be turned completely off, which means darks are darker and brights are brighter. Colors pop more. OLED is, in a word, better. (It also supports all the major HDR standards — Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10, and HDR10+.)

Vizio's OLED sets are nearly bezel-less, and they're designed to work perfectly with Vizio's new Atmos-enabled soundbar (available later this year), which has rotating drivers that fire off vertically when needed, and horizontally when using a lesser standard.

The Apple TV app is now available on SmartCast, the built-in operating system on all modern Vizio televisions. That means no more having to use AirPlay to watch your favorite show on Apple TV+, and you'll now have full access to any third-party services to which you've subscribed through Apple TV Channels — and no more having to use a separate piece of hardware like Apple TV or Roku.

The Apple TV app should be available today in the United States and Canada, Vizio says. And for a limited time, you can get three months of Apple TV+ if you sign up via the SmartCast app.

“With the Apple TV app coming to VIZIO SmartCast TVs, customers can enjoy an even broader range of exciting entertainment, including the popular and award-winning Apple TV+ service,” Mike O’Donnell, Chief Revenue Officer of VIZIO, said in a press release. “Knowing the important role the TV has in the home, VIZIO continues to expand the entertainment available for consumers to discover. VIZIO SmartCast is also the perfect destination for content providers as the platform where millions of customers can access all of their favorite apps, channels and programming from their TV.”

Apple TV+ is full of original content like Defending Jacob, Central Park, Greyhound, Beastie Boys Story, and Ted Lasso.  Apple TV Channels allows you to subscribe to and control billing for such services as Showtime, CBS All Access and STARZ, all through your Apple account.

Vizio and The Weather Channel today announced that the latter's free streaming service, Local Now, is now available on the build-in Vizio SmartCast service. That means you can get all the weather information you need (and from a service you trust) without having to use any other streaming hardware. It's available for free, on your Vizio television.

Even though The Weather Channel is available on just a few streaming services, it's what powers Local Now, which also includes localized information on current events, lifestyle, sports, business and traffic. Local Now's partners include Reuters, the Associated Press, Tribune Content Agency, Yelp, Cheddar and more.

“VIZIO is dedicated to delivering endless entertainment options to users and is continually adding free and premium content to VIZIO SmartCast,” said Katherine Pond, Vice President of Business Development for VIZIO. “With the Local Now app, users can easily enjoy real-time, local news, weather, traffic, sports, and lifestyle content with no subscription or additional fees.”

Local Now said it will continue to expand on other platforms as well as grow its editorial initiatives.

“With increasing consumption on smart TVs, we are excited about expanding Local Now’s presence, bringing real-time hyper-local content to VIZIO users across the country,” Byron Allen, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Local Now parent company Allen Media Group, said in a press release. “The Local Now team is working behind the scenes with best-in-class technology brands to meet the consumers where they are, and on the devices of their choice.”

Get your snacks and beverages, sit back, and relax while you enjoy all that AT&T TV Now has to offer on your Vizio SmartCast TV. This option also works if you don't have a SmartCast enabled Vizio TV by plugging a Chromecast device into the back your television.

The 2020 lineup of Vizio TVs and soundbars has a lot to be excited about. Start with the company's first OLED sets, and round it all out with a revamped lineup of soundbars — including a new high-end Dolby Atmos offering. Indeed, we were intrigued .

The only thing that was missing from the showcase in Las Vegas in January? Any sort of pricing. Today, that gets answered.

Vizio's first OLED displays come in at $1,299 for the 55-inch model, and $1,999 for the 65-incher.

That's right about where you'd expect from the company that's known for bringing quality displays at prices that often undercut the competition just enough to get the deal done. (By comparison, the current-ten LG C9 OLD TV runs $1,499 and $2,199 for the same size options.

The big deal about OLED televisions versus less-expensive LCD displays has to do with the technology. LCD displays use backlights in what are called "local dimming zones" and don't get as dark as OLED, which can completely turn off individual pixels. So instead of merely "dark," you get true blacks from OLED. And the H1 is Vizio's first OLED model.

That's not to say there aren't new LCD's worth looking at, and that they're not impressive in their own right. Because there are, and they are.

At the top of that heap is the Vizio P-Series Quantum X. It ranges from $1,499 for 65 inches to $2,999 at 85 inches. Take a step down in the P-Series lineup and you'll get a 65-inch P-Series Quantum for $1,199, and 75 inches at $1,699. Below that is the M-Series, which runs from $399 for 50 inches, up to $749 for 65 inches.

The P-Series sets and OLED displays all take advantage of the new IQ Active processor and have a max refresh rate of 120Hz.

And on the lower end of things, the Vizio V-Series ranges from 40 inches at at $229 up to 75 inches at $799.

On the audio side of things, It's all about the new Elevate soundbar. It's got support for Dolby Atmos and does things in an intriguing way. When you're playing content that has those three-dimensional objects encoded in the audio stream, speakers on the end of the soundbar will rotate to fire skyward. When you're watching something that doesn't use Atmos, they point back toward the front. The whole setup is a 5.1.4 system with an 8-inch wireless subwoofer. And it doesn't come cheap — retailing at $999.

Elsewhere, the newly rebranded and redesigned M-Series soundbar starts things out on the low end with a 2.1 system for $149, and no wireless sub, available on July 26. The new V-Series soundbars come in two flavors — a 2.1 setup with 5-inch wireless sub for $179 — available now — and a 5.1 system with 5-inch wireless sub for $249, available on July 5.

The new OLED TVs and Elevate soundbar will be available this fall, alongside the 75-inch V-Series and 85-inch P-Series. Look for everything else starting today at retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart.

VIZIO's V21 sound bar is available now at $179.99 while the V51 will arrive July 5, 2020 at $249.99. The M-Series All-in-One 2.1 Sound bar will be available for $149.99 starting on July 26.

In addition to the new sets and soundbars, Vizio also is rolling out a newer, faster version of its built-in SmartCast software, and is shipping new remote controls.

NBCUniversal today announced that Peacock — its new streaming service that launches nationwide on July 15 — be available natively on Vizio and LG televisions.

Vizio has numerous apps available on its SmartCast operating system. Same goes for LG and its webOS-based system.

Peacock is at its core a free (and ad-supported) streaming service. But for $4.99 a month you'll be able to watch even more twice as much NBCUniversal content, including a bunch of new originals. And for another $5 a month you can get most of it without advertising.

"We want to provide fans of Peacock's vast programming a choice of how and where they consume our content when we launch nationally next month, Matt Bond, Chairman, Content Distribution, NBCUniversal, said in a news release. "VIZIO and LG are great partners that will help provide these fans the viewing experience they've come to expect from us at NBCUniversal."

Peacock recently announced original programming available at launch including Brave New World, The Capture, Intelligence and Lost Speedways; sports documentary In Deep with Ryan Lochte; and the entire full-length film Psych 2: Lassie Come Home. Peacock has been available on Comcast Xfinity X1 and Flex system since April.

The 2019 models might be phasing out these days, but that just means you have a few more opportunities to catch them at super low prices before they're gone forever. For example, the now-discontinued Vizio M658-G1 M-Series Quantum 65-inch 4K HDR smart TV is going for just $599.99 at B&H at the moment. That's a really low price considering it is sold out at some retailers and going for as much as $750 at places like Best Buy . In fact, Best Buy was the last place we saw this TV on sale and even then it only dropped to $670. Today's deal from B&H is rare. You won't even be able to add more than one to your cart if you decide to go for it. While the TV is purchasable for this price, the shipping and stock may be delayed, but I think it's worth it for the price.

The M-Series Quantum has a ton of smart functionality. For one thing, there's a Chromecast built in so you can access all your favorite streaming apps, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime VIdeo, and others. Vizio even has its own service called WatchFree that gives you access to over 150 channels with free TV... and that includes live TV like news and sports. You can access the popular ones including others like Disney+ and CBS All Access directly from the TV.

Plus, it works with Apple AirPlay so you can use your Apple device to wirelessly mirror content like web sites and presentations. Use your voice to control the TV with Amazon's Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple's Siri. Do even more with Apple HomeKit, controlling the TV from your Apple Home app.

The TV itself has 4K resolution, support for HDR content through Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG, a wide spectrum of color thanks to Vizio's Quantum tech, and more.

This TV has 90 local dimming zones and 600 nits of brightness. While those words might not mean much to you, it means big things if you want to watch HDR content. Brightness is especially important as many HDR compatible screens often don't have a brightness above 400 nits, which is generally considered the minimum for good HDR content.

Vizio today announced that it's adding 10 more channels to its free (ad-based) SmartCast platform. That's where you'll go when you hit the Vizio button on your Vizio TV's remote control.

And the timing could be better. Vizio says usage of its free offerings was up 88 percent the first week of April compared to the last week of March, and up 108 percent the first week of April compared to the first week of March.

The additions include content from tech from Wired, fashion from GQ, Glamour and Vogue, food and travel from Tastemade and Condé Nast Traveler, laughs from Funny of Die and Mystery Science Theater 3000, and small-screen games from the Game Show Central and World Poker Tour.

Vizio today announced that Disney+ is now available directly as an app on the SmartCast system that's built into its televisions. That means D+ subscribers no longer will be forced to use Chromecast or AirPlay 2 to watch Disney+ on their Vizio TVs if they're not using some other supported platform, like Roku or Apple TV.

Everyone is thirsty in the desert. From phones with cameras that disappear to robots that bring you spare rolls of toilet paper to concept cars that breathe , there absolutely is no shortage of products at CES 2020 fighting for even just a brief glimpse of attention.

Walk into Vizio's showroom in the Vdara hotel and casino in Las Vegas' CityCenter, however, and you get the sense that — well, everything's the same. That's not to say that Vizio's newest televisions aren't worth a look. They most certainly are. And that's not to say that there's nothing noteworthy about its 2020 lineup. There most certainly is.

But you also get the sense that it's very much business as usual for Vizio. That in this futuristic world of 8K televisions and modular displays, Vizio is content to just do its thing. To make good televisions for normals folks at price points normal folks can afford.

Probably. We don't yet have pricing information on this year's V-, M- and P-Series sets. We don't yet have any sort of pricing on the gorgeous new OLED television Vizio has rolled out. We don't have any idea how much its new selection of soundbars will run us.

But spend even just a few minutes with any of Vizio's new kit and you'll come away thinking "I want this." So with the caveat of not knowing just how expensive the top end of things will run, here's a breakdown of where things stand going into 2020 — and at what a steady march of improvement can do in a world in which everyone else is trying to make a bigger splash.

The 2020 line of Vizio televisions

Let's start at the low end. The V-Series TV has been (and remains) the least expensive of the line. It lacks all the bells and whistles of the higher tiers. The entire display dims, instead of going dark (or not, depending on what you're watching) across multiple regions.

But it's still pretty good. And considering that the 2019 V-Series tops out at about $850 for a 75-incher (and bottoms out at 40 inches for about $240), expect that trend to continue this year.

Bread & butter, and other fine dining

The M-Series is where I'd start looking, though. Televisions are long-term purchases. They're big and kind of a pain to swap out. So I'd spend a little extra and get a little more for my money.

First is that the industrial design of the M-Series Quantum TVs is better. You've got a couple of flavors of the new M-Series from which to choose, with the M8 offering three times as many local dimming zones than the M7. (More dimming zones means parts of the screen can be darker while other parts are lighter. Having more dimming zones is better.) The M8 also has a higher peak brightness, beating the M7 by about 33 percent.

And don't expect the price to break the bank here, either.

If you're really looking to step things up, though, the P-Series is still where it's at. And there's a sizable shift in the P-Series itself. The P9 is still a hell of a TV. It's available in 65 inches or 75 inches, with up to 240 local dimming zones (depending on whether you get the larger of the two models) and peak brightness of up to 1200 nits. The P-Series also ups the processor to the new IQ Ultra scheme.

And Vizio is going one further. The P-Series Quantum X is available in 65-, 75- and 85-inch models. It has 792 local dimming zones on the large end and take the peak brightness up to 3,000 nits. It's nuts. It's gorgeous. It also but removes the bezels and does away with the "VIZIO" badge and opts, instead, for just the logo on the bottom right. This is, in all likelihood (again, we don't have pricing) the upgrade TV to have if you want the upgraded option from Vizio.

Vizio's first OLED

But it's still not OLED. And that's the biggest splash Vizio has up its sleeves this CES — its first Organic Light Emitting Diode display.

Remember all those local dimming zones we were talking about before? OLED turns off the individual pixels. Black spaces are truly black. That sort of contrast makes the colors pop that much more.

If you can afford an OLED TV, you want an OLED TV. And Vizio's will come in either 55 or 65 inches. It really is beautiful. And it almost certainly will cost several thousand dollars.

The inside baseball is that this OLED TV — it doesn't have a snazzy series name or anything — lets Vizio more directly compete with the manufacturers that already have been on the OLED train for some time, and it gives it a slight leg up on the less-expensive MicroLED panels you'll find elsewhere. It fills a hole atop the Vizio lineup and should give it a pretty consistent contender in all the best-of lists this year.

But the question remains: How much is it going to cost?

Fun, but not actual products yet

Vizio had a couple other sets on display that were a sign of what it's at least playing with, if not actually something it plans to bring to market in the future.

First is an 8K-resolution panel. Companies are always working on everything, and there's no way Vizio hasn't been working on 8K. But there's also absolutely no reason for a normal consumer to purchase an 8K television, so it's a nice change of pace to see someone say "Yeah, it's a thing. But it's also not a thing, ya know?"

Another thing Vizio is toying with is a television that's meant for outdoor spaces. Again, to reiterate, it's nowhere near a finished product. It has nothing to announce. But what at least sparked a brief moment of excitement was the possibility of a television meant for the outdoors that doesn't look like was built 15 years ago — bulky and unsightly and something that makes you want to buy a $250 TV and sacrifice it to the Weather Gods every couple of years instead. Which, for what it's worth, is exactly what I do on my covered porch. So the prospect of something bright enough for outdoors and hardened for the outdoors without possibly — again, that "not-a-thing-yet" caveat — looking like a piece of 1990s military surplus would be a very good thing.

Vizio's new voice remote

Nothing ruins a good television experience like a bad remote control. And it's not that Vizio's remotes have been bad — they've just looked the same for quite some time and also have looked like the've been trying too hard.

That's changing in 2020 with the new Vizio voice remote. As the name implies, it's also adding voice control via the remote, which is something that's been missing. (Support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are still there, too.) Vizio is using Soundhound to crunch all that data in the cloud, and it worked well enough in our demo. And it was nice to see it employ the sort of contextual computation you'd expect to see in 2020, so that you don't have to explicitly state a question or command one at a time. So you can say "Show me James Bond movies" and it'll show you James Bond movies. And then you can say "Just the ones with Sean Connery" and it'll show you the ones with just Sean Connery." That's the way things should work.

The remote itself has been greatly simplified, too. No more number buttons, which makes sense for the streaming era. There are a half-dozen branded shortcuts up top, and Vizio's own "WatchFree" channel gets prime placement. And after that everything's where it should be.

SmartCast 4.0

Along with the new hardware for 2020, the other biggest announcement was the next generation of Vizio's SmartCast operating system. It's long been a pain point for Vizio's TVs — I've had zero problems recommending Vizio to someone, but always with the caveat that they'd want to invest a few dollars in an Apple TV (my top choice) or Roku streaming player or Amazon Fire TV.

Previous iterations of SmartCast have just been too slow.

I can't quite tell yet if the new SmartCast 4.0 has done enough to change my mind on that. Our demo was decidedly pre-production, and there were occasional hiccups. But the improvements also were pretty obvious, and Vizio needs kudos for speeding up its top-level home screen experience. Questions remain, though. How will the third-party apps behave? And will SmartCast have all of the services you want to watch? It's getting close to having all of the majors, and so maybe 2020 will be the year in which we see Vizio start to take on Roku in the arena of all-in-one TVs. We'll just have to see.

But it's also very much worth noting that Vizio says to expect the SmartCast update on TVs dating all the way back to 2016. Obviously newer hardware should speed things up that much more, but it's tough to find any company outside of Apple that keeps its software up to date that long.

Vizio's soundbars in 2020

I've long been a fan of Vizio's soundbars, too. You can greatly improve the quality (and experience) of your TV viewing with just a few hundred dollars of kit — and having rear speakers and a subwoofer connect wirelessly to a soundbar means your living room doesn't need to be rewired.

The biggest change for 2020 is a continued improvement in the industrial design. There's less cloth and more plastic. And everything just looks more sophisticated. The ditched soundbars also have gained better branding, joining the M-Series and V-Series schemes, making it easier to have a general idea of what tier audio equipment you're looking at. (And it makes keeping track of this sort of thing so much easier.)

And then there's the new high-end Vizio Elevate Sound Bar. It's got Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. And it has speakers that rotate depending on the sound profile. It's a really cool thing to hear, and sort of space-age to see in practice. And the sound? Spectacular.

Expect Vizio to also heavily push the Elevate in conjunction with its new OLED TV. So much so, in fact, that should you mount the OLED TV on a wall, the attached stand becomes a mounting point for the Elevate Sound Bar.

Vizio also has redesigned its audio remote controls, too — casting off another legacy pain point.

We don't have any pricing here, either, but figure it to be in the affordable-to-wow range again.

The bottom line

There is a fair amount of commonality here that I've left out. All of the new displays come with 4K resolution and Dolby Vision and HDR10+ and HLG. All of them feature HDMI 2.1 ports, so latency should be lower and the overall experience should be better. Apple's AirPlay and Homekit are now standard. Same for Google Assistant integration and Chromecast.

And the M-Series TVs on up feature a ProGraming Engine that allow for a pretty killer experience with an Xbox One X or PlayStation 4. (Or, eventually, the PlayStation 5, we'd gather.) Combine that with Vizio's soundbars and you get its take on surround sound that really does take you into the game.

That's all standard now. It's table stakes for the Vizio experience.

And between the new televisions in 2020, and the new soundbars, and the new software, and the new remote controls, this much is clear:

Vizio's fine being Vizio. It's going to continue to make televisions that are great, and affordable across all kinds of price points.

And they're going to continue to keep getting better.

Some folks might need a TV that straddles the line between a big screen and smaller screen. The 40-inch is that bridge, and that specific size is actually pretty hard to come by since most brands go straight from 32 to 43 inches. So if you need something in that sweet sub-45-inch pocket, check out these 40- and 43-inch options.

For smaller living rooms, apartments, dorm rooms, and even larger bedrooms, the 40- to 43-inch form factor for TVs is perfect. This is also a sweet spot for 4K pricing. If you're looking for the absolute best TV in this size, then Samsung's NU7100 is a no-brainer, but if you're looking for more of a bargain, I'd go with the TCL 5 Series , which has a lot to offer in spite of its price.

So far at CES 2020, Vizio has showcased a new OLED TV and a bunch of soundbars . However, that's not all the company has up its sleeves. Just as important as those other unveilings, Vizio has taken the wraps off of Vizio SmartCast 4.0.

SmartCast is the platform used to power Vizio's smart TVs, and the 4.0 update looks to pack quite the punch. In day-to-day use, users will benefit from faster startup and load times, better input switching, and improved responsiveness for remote controls. Finding content to watch is also getting easier, thanks to a "redesigned search experience."

Vizio's WatchFree free streaming service is steadily proving itself to be a worthy competitor in the streaming wars, and this year, Vizio will add the ability to select favorite genres and channels in the app, allowing for a more personalized experience. Google Assistant support is also on the way, and it'll enable you to launch WatchFree channels and shows using nothing but your voice.

Last but certainly not least, Vizio has announced its first-ever Vizio Voice Remote.

Utilizing a push-to-talk function, you can talk to the remote to control just about every aspect of your Vizio TV. The Voice Remote allows you to launch apps, search for content, switch picture modes, and much more.

SmartCast 4.0 will begin rolling out later this year, and when it does, it'll be available for any Vizio TVs made in 2016 or later. Vizio is also targeting a 2020 release for the WatchFree improvements and the Voice Remote, but that's as specific of a timeframe as we have right now.

Vizio P Series (2019) PX65-G1 Review — almost an OLED

Updated June 30, 2020: We now have full pricing on the new range of televisions and soundbars.

Vizio today at CES in Las Vegas has unveiled a massive upgrade to its television lineup for 2020. New sets. Bigger sets than it's done before. Its first OLED set. Sets with newer, faster processing across the board.

And that's just for starters.

Here's how to look at things: Vizio is still going with its "V-Series," "M-Series," and "P-Series" televisions, with the former focused more on affordability, and the latter on performance. In other words, V is good. M is better, and P is best. The M- and P-Series sets also get the "Quantum" designation because they employ Quantum Dot technology, which is better than not having it.

And to separate things out a little further, we now have an array of P-Series Quantum X televisions, in 65-, 75- and — in a first for Vizio — 85-inch flavors.

And to separate things out even further , Vizio also is rolling out its first OLED televisions — basically the gold standard in displays. If you can afford OLED, you want OLED, because unlike other display technologies OLED can turn off each individual pixel (instead of just dimming things in regions), making blacks truly blacks and allowing colors to pop that much more. You'll be able to get them in either 55 or 65 inches when they're available.

Also new is a revamped Vizio IQ Ultra processing system, which allows for better performance across the board — something Vizio TVs have needed an upgrade in for quite some time. The M- and P-Series TVs also get a new "ProGaming Engine" that specificially beefs things up for Xbox One X and PlayStation 4, with variable refresh rates, AMD FreeSync, and 4K resolution at up to 120Hz.

Also new across the board is HDMI 2.1. The entire lineup also retains support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, as well as Google Assistant and Chromecast, and Apple's Homekit and AirPlay standards.

Toss in massive updates to the Vizio SmartCast user interface and new audio equipment, and 2020 is off to a pretty darn good start for Vizio.

What's missing? Pricing and availability. So drool for now, and start saving some pennies.

Vizio OLED 2020

We don't yet have much imformation on the Vizio OLED TVs. We do know that they'll support 4K resolution, of course, and the'll come in two sizes — 55 inches and 65 inches. They'll also have the top-end IQ Ultra processor, which should surprise no one, and the frames will have a thin 4mm bezel.

For now, what you see here is what we know.

Vizio P-Series Quantom 2020

This is where the Vizio lineup generally goes from "Good, but still affordable" to "OK, I've got some money to spend. Whatcha got?"

The P9 comes in 65- and 75-inch flavors and up to 240 local dimming zones. (The larger model gets more.) It's also 50 percent brighter than the M-Series sets.

The variable-rate refresh specs also get a bump to a max of 120Hz, double that of the M-Series.

Otherwise, you're still looking at 4K resolution and Dolby Vision and HDR and all that, plus the ProGaming Engine and IQ Ultra processor.

Vizio P-Series Quantum X 2020

Want to go one better? That's where the new Quantum X comes in for 2020. First is that it's Vizio's first TV to reach 85 inches. And with that additional size you can get as many as 792 local dimming zones, and potential brightness is more than double that of the non-X P-Series sets.

This is, simply, the new best of Vizio's best.

Vizio M-Series Quantum 2020

This is the bread and butter of the Vizio line. It's made up of two models, the M7 and M8. The former comes in sizes of 50, 55 and 65 inches. The LED panel has up to 30 local dimming zones. For that reason alone we'd recommend looking at the M8 model first — it has 90 local dimming zones. The M8, which comes in 55- and 65-inch sizes, also is brighter than the M7.

The M-Series also is the lowest in the Vizio lineup to feature the new ProGaming Engine for improved performance with the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4.

Vizio V-Series 2020

This year's contingent comes in a bevy of sizes, from 40 inches on the small end to 70 on the high end. As these are the more economical models, you'll lose out on local dimming and instead get full array dimming. Brightness tops out at a mere 250 nits for the entire screen. Refresh comes in at 120Hz.

While the V-Series enjoys the new IQ Active processing as the M-Series, it's a step below the IQ Ultra you'll get on the P-Series sets. Same goes fo the V-Gaming Engine.

Support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG is standard, as is 4K resolution and HDMI 2.1.

The Vizio PX65-G1 65-inch P-Series Quantum 4K LCD TV is down to $1069.99 at Costco. The next best price on this TV anywhere is Target 's sale bringing it down to $1,270. Most retailers like B&H and Walmart are selling it for $1,500 or more. Costco's deal is the best price we've ever seen.

Don't fight it

One of the fastest-growing sports in America, in terms of fan popularity, is combat sports. DAZN (pronounced Da Zone) is squarely in the middle of that growth, and better yet, you can watch it all on your Vizio SmartCast TV.
