Knowing she lives in Pittsburgh, having picked up on some of her vocabulary, Stephens tells Porsche about the hospital, but insists he doesn’t have to be the one to treat her. When Porsche doesn’t go to the doctor, Stephens logs on again to check on her. She collapses on camera, pulling down the background behind her.

Will Stephens be able to save Porsche? Will he be able to keep their relationship a secret? Here’s what happens in Watson episode 6, “The Camgirl Inquiry.”

The search for Porsche

Stephens tells Watson (Morris Chestnut) about the cam-girl. Watson doesn’t mock Stephens, instead he insists everyone in the clinic is lonely. Watson says he’ll need to tell the other clinic doctors, though. Ingrid (Eve Harlow) starts making fun, but Watson stops her.

Watson says discovering where this woman lives based on what’s on the screen before she dies is a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes.

Adam (Peter Mark Kendall) is able to track down the art on her wall, which is Porsche’s own. She lives on Butler Street in Lawrenceville. After visiting the area, and asking locals, Watson, Stephens and Adam are given an address. But it’s where she used to live. The man inside reveals her real name is Annie Wilson.

Porsche gets worse

Shinwell (Ritchie Coster), who is monitoring the live feed, tells Watson Porsche is now groaning and has purple marks on her body. Watson realizes she’s in septic shock. Every hour without treatment decreases her chance of survival by 9%.

Porsche had a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, so she now lives under a new name, which isn’t Porsche or Annie. They need a lawyer to reveal her new name and address. When the one Porsche used won’t help, Adam recommends Lauren (Amanda Crew), his girlfriend and Stephens’ ex.

While Stephens is initially reluctant to talk to Lauren, Watson advises Stephens he needs to give the people in his life more credit. They won’t be as hard on him as he is on himself. Lauren admits the judge they called is tough and promises to help.

When Porsche’s dog moves the camera, they see that her new name is Kathryn Petruccio. From that they get her address. Soon after, doctors break down her door, but her pulse is very weak.

Porsche's shocking illness

Peter Mark Kendall and Sofie Kane in Watson (Image credit: CBS)

Now in a hospital, Porsche isn’t responding to the antibiotics. She has a rare type of infection. They have to act fast.

Using the information they have about Porsche, the medical team starts to look for clues. As Sasha (Inga Schlingmann) and Stephens search her apartment, they find her year-book, so they know her high school and hometown. But when they try to reach out to the Wilsons that still live there, no one answers.

Stephens sits with an unconscious Porsche and recites The Merchant of Venice. He’s upset she collapsed and is dying and he was unable to stop any of that. Watson says he failed Holmes, and tells Stephens about the day of Holmes’ death. This is Watson’s way of saying that Porsche’s illness is not Stephens’ fault.

Stephens gets a call from Porsche’s mother, who says that Porsche did visit recently and was bitten by a rabbit while there, which gave her a version of the black plague. They’re able to administer the treatment just in time.

Porsche wakes up. Stephens tells her what happened. Porsche thanks him for saving her. She’s also impressed that Stephens told his colleagues how they know each other. She asks where this leaves them. Stephens says Porsche helped him to move on and he’s not sure if he needs that anymore. But he promises to check up on her.

Watson’s guilt

Watson tells Shinwell he should have stopped Holmes from dying. But Shinwell says Holmes’ fight with Moriarty was always going to be one-on-one. Holmes died because of his vanity.

As he leaves, after dropping off Watson’s new pills, Shinwell says he’s sure he’ll disappoint Watson at some point. But Watson doesn’t think he will. But once again Shinwell has been trading Watson’s pills for Moriarty. Shinwell is furious at himself for betraying Watson.

Sasha and Ingrid are, nearly, friends

537 patients are seeking treatment from the clinic, proving it’s a success.

Inside the clinic, Sasha has figured out that Ingrid’s birthday is coming up. Ingrid doesn’t want to celebrate her birthday, though. After Sasha asks for more details, Ingrid says she’ll reveal that Sasha’s engagement is fake if she keeps pursuing this.

Sasha still gets Ingrid a cake. But Ingrid is upset that Sasha didn’t listen. Ingrid says Sasha is constantly looking to control narratives, that’s why she puts on the engagement ring and pretends she’s engaged, even though her boyfriend didn’t propose.

When Sasha departs upset, Ingrid insists the cake is nice, they’re friends, but Sasha isn’t the author of the universe. She’s just in it, like everyone else.

Back in her apartment, Sasha returns the engagement ring to Zach (Tommy O’Brien), her fiance, saying she doesn’t want it anymore. She tells Zach to have his stuff out of the apartment in two weeks.

Ingrid eats the cake while sitting by the port. Sasha calls Ingrid and says she needs company. Ingrid says she’s free all day tomorrow, but today is for her. When Sasha goes to convince her, she stops herself, and tells Ingrid, “I’m not the author of the universe. See you in the morning.”

New episodes of Watson premiere Sundays on CBS and then stream on-demand on Paramount Plus.

There is a cure for the disease, but it costs $3 million and isn’t covered by insurance. When Taryn’s doctor leaves, Taryn has a stroke and the left side of her face is suddenly paralyzed.

Is there something else wrong with Taryn? Will Watson (Morris Chestnut) be able to save her? Here’s what happens in Watson episode 5.

Watson breaks the law

Mary (Rochelle Aytes) wants Watson to help Taryn. There’s a clinical trial being put together that’s an alternate version of the sickle cell cure. Mary wants Taryn in it. But she knows Taryn’s current symptoms will stop her from being accepted. Watson needs to find out why Taryn’s sickle cells are worsening so rapidly and stabilize her so she’s ready for the trial.

When Watson goes to see Taryn, she says the attacks have been getting worse all year. Watson is concerned about the long-term impact on Taryn, as she’s still just 26.

Watson tells the doctors at the clinic that Taryn’s mystery isn’t her disease, but why do we live in a world that could cure her, but won’t.

Watson says they can use Crisper, which allows human genomes to be edited, to defeat the disease; an expensive cure for sickle cell was created by another biotech company. Duplicating the cure would be illegal, but Watson believes the cure is sloppy and says they can improve it.

Watson says he needs to circumvent the FDA, the hospital, Mary and the law to make Taryn better. He asks for Shinwell’s (Ritchie Coster) help. Shinwell revels in planning the “job.” They aim to recruit Obi (Nat Faxon) as the surgeon to help with the procedure, as they want to keep the clinic’s doctors out of trouble.

Watson wants to do base repair editing on Taryn. They collect her stem cells and create a base editor, a microscopic tool to correct the mutation that’s causing her sickle cell. They drill into her shin to tap into her bone marrow, where the edited cells will replicate. She should feel better quickly and will be free of the disease.

Taryn will be the first person to have this procedure, and it’s not approved by the FDA. If Taryn agrees to it, she can’t tell anyone about it. If it goes wrong, not only could Watson lose his job, he could go to prison.

After everyone leaves the clinic, Obi arrives to do the procedure. Watson gives Taryn a chance to back-out, reminding her that the procedure is new science. She goes through with it. The procedure is so simple, Taryn can’t believe that’s all it took.

The other doctors find out

Eve Harlow, Inga Schlingmann and Peter Mark Kendall in Watson (Image credit: Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)

When Taryn, Watson and Obi leave, Ingrid (Eve Harlow), Sasha (Inga Schlingmann) Stephens and Adam (Peter Mark Kendall) are waiting for them. Stephens recognized Obi and knew Watson was up to something.

Watson refuses to say anything, though, to save them. But Stephens says Watson deserves to tell them, as they’ve sacrificed so much to work with him. Watson tells them about the illegal procedure, saying he’s tired of seeing people dying when cures are only available at extortionate prices.

The doctors gather to discuss whether they will report Watson or continue working with him. The four of them discuss the ethics, but then decide to keep the procedure to themselves. Shinwell shows them Taryn’s new blood cells, proving that it worked.

Mary is intrigued by Taryn’s recovery

Mary checks on Taryn, whose vitals are better. She will get to go home soon. Mary asks what Watson did, but Taryn refuses to say anything. Mary asks about the mole removal, which is the excuse Watson used for the procedure. Again, Taryn stays quiet.

Mary knows something is amiss. She quizzes Watson about the mole removal and Taryn’s sudden improvement. But he says nothing. So Mary gets a sample of Taryn’s blood to discover what Watson did.

Now back at home, Taryn suddenly can’t breathe. She’s had a pulmonary embolism. The clinic’s doctors believe it’s because of Watson’s illegal procedure. But Watson insists it’s not responsible. Watson is just focused on saving Taryn. Thankfully, Taryn stabilizes.

Mary asks Watson if he did a procedure to rid Taryn of sickle cell that then gave Taryn a pulmonary embolism. But Watson has figured out Taryn is pregnant, which is what caused the embolism. Taryn is delighted to be pregnant and breaks down.

Mary throws away the vials of blood, covering Watson’s tracks.

Sasha helps Ingrid

Ingrid asks for Sasha’s help. Ingrid is annoyed that the patient she’s suggesting for the paralysis trial, which will see AI fix an injured spine, is being rejected. Sasha says Ingrid needs to create an emotional story for her patient. Sasha writes a referral for Ingrid’s patient, which helps her be selected.

We also get to learn a bit more about Ingrid. She lives with her sister, and their mother left them 20 years ago. Ingrid’s sister is also in a wheelchair, and the patient that she was pleading to get the paralysis trial.

As the episode ends, we see Ingrid writing up detailed notes on Watson’s illegal procedure on Taryn.

New episodes of Watson air Sundays on CBS, then are available to stream on Paramount Plus.

His tongue also has various bumps on it. This suggests he has Cowden syndrome, which greatly increases your chance of having cancer.

Will Watson and the clinic’s doctors save Betancourt? Is Watson still being poisoned by Shinwell Johnson (Ritchie Coster)? Take a look below at our recap of Watson episode 4.

Betancourt dies

A very popular lawyer, Betancourt is told he somehow needs to spare a few hours for additional cancer screenings. But Betancourt is so busy, he even stays awake during a colonoscopy. Various tumors are found during the screening. He undergoes an operation, but flatlines and then dies during it.

At the sight of Betancourt’s tongue, Sasha Lubbock (Inga Schlingmann) is taken back to the first-ever cadaver that she examined in medical school over a decade ago. He had the same bumps on his tongue as Betancourt. She becomes upset, as she’s worried that the relatives of that cadaver have Cowden syndrome and she didn’t do anything to save them.

Watson says they can find her cadaver’s family. Sasha doesn’t believe that’s possible, as the cadaver’s identity was covered up. Watson says that sounds like a mystery, and solving mysteries is what they do.

Can they find the cadaver?

Brenda, who runs the cadaver lab, gives the doctors her ledger, which includes more information on the cadaver. That reduces the possibilities. Watson helps Sasha dive deeper into her memories, and she remembers the person’s height, age range and weight.

Sasha also turns her med-school notes over to Adam (Peter Mark Kendall) and Stephens (Peter Mark Kendall), who go over them for clues. Turns out, Sasha removed two pages. These were pictures that an artist friend of hers drew of the cadaver. When the artist hands them over, Watson spots that the cadaver had a tattoo of an Amish symbol. Watson, Sasha and Stephens go to visit the Amish community.

Using the picture the artist drew, the Amish community tells Watson that the cadaver was Jacob Hostetter. But the rest of Jacob’s family left the Amish community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, several years ago. One member tells Watson that Jacob’s sister Rachel married and moved to Harrisburg.

Watson goes to Harrisburg, where he tells Rachel to have more screenings for cancer. But she is more concerned with her son Amos, who has just visited a doctor for lesions he has.

Amos suddenly has respiratory problems. Watson believes this is because the tumor on his neck is pressing on his airwaves. But Adam says Amos doesn’t actually have cancer, his Cowden syndrome test came back negative. They need to figure out what is wrong with Amos, otherwise he could die.

Sasha and Stephens go through Rachel’s house looking for anomalies and clues. Watson deciphers that Amos developed a thyroid abscess from drinking camel milk. Watson allows Ingrid Derian (Eve Harlow) to drain the abscess, and Amos’ breathing improves immediately.

Sasha still feels guilty, and Ingrid wants better for her

Peter Mark Kendall and Inga Schlingmann in Watson (Image credit: Colin Bentley/CBS)

Sasha and Stephens stay in Lancaster to screen other members of the Hostetter family. The Amish community repeatedly thank Sasha for aiding them. She struggles to accept their gratitude.

Turns out, Rachel hasn’t spoken to the Amish community since she left years ago. Later, Rachel reunites with Trea, a member of the Amish community. Rachel then introduces Trea and the rest of the Amish community to Amos.

A delighted Sasha watches this reunion. She feels even better when Stephens informs her that they found 12 members of the Hostetter family with Cowden syndrome. One even had early stages of breast cancer. By telling them, they have given them a much greater chance of survival.

Later, Ingrid realizes that Sasha has been lying about her engagement ring. Ingrid tells Sasha that her boyfriend is stringing her along, adding that Sasha deserves better than that.

Shinwell fights back

Shinwell confides in a robot that he doesn’t have anyone to tell his secrets to, as he removes sample vials from the clinic, which he then gives to Moriarty’s crony. She also gives Shinwell a phone that will reprogram the lab’s robot.

As he leaves, Shinwell puts a tracker on the crony’s car. Shinwell follows her to the hospital, where she picks up a child with cancer. He then removes the tracker.

Watson’s divorce threatens to get messy

Watson asks Shinwell why they only have green marker pens, since his senses are offended by the color. Shinwell says they’re provided by the hospital. Watson goes to investigate.

Mary Morstan (Rochelle Aytes) did it on purpose. She scolds Watson for holding up their divorce proceedings. Watson doesn’t even have a lawyer yet but promises to have one for their upcoming mediation. But Watson misses the mediation because he’s treating Amos.

Later, Watson tells Mary he’s not hiring a divorce lawyer because he’s not contesting the divorce. He wants Mary to have the life she wants, even if that’s without him. Watson tells Mary he’ll be at the next mediation alone.

Mary asks Watson what it was like going back to Lancaster, where the pair previously worked together, and where he even proposed to her. Watson says it’s still the most beautiful place he’s ever been and he’ll always carry it with him.

Watson remembers his first cadaver. But only because it was when he was introduced to Mary, who was his lab partner. Watson walks away from her home, as she turns off the lights.

New episodes of Watson air Sundays on CBS, then are available to stream on Paramount Plus the next day.

As Molly Jones (Djouliet Amara) prepares to go on stage to perform, she loses her pills. She then jokes about anxiety and big pharma, but as she starts to tell a joke about her mother she becomes overwhelmed, then faints on stage.

Was this just a dizzy spell? Or is there a very dark reason for Molly’s collapse? Obviously the latter is the answer. Take a look below to find out how John Watson (Morris Chestnut) discovers Molly’s issue below, with our recap of Watson episode 3, “Wait for the Punchline.”

Watson recaps

Watson episode 1 recap
Watson episode 2 recap

Watson’s condition worsens

Since his brain injury Watson has suffered from insomnia, migraines, and his heart rate has increased. Words have also started to jumble. He can’t understand why his symptoms are getting worse.

Even when he stands up, Watson loses his footing. Watson tells Shinwell Johnson (Ritchie Coster) he is just adapting to his new medication. He then asks him for a different type of medicine.

Even while treating Molly, Watson stumbles. Then later he collapses and smashes his head on the floor. Watson is taken to the emergency room. When he wakes up he tells Molly that when people ask what happened, she needs to tell them that he slipped on water, rather than collapsed.

Later, after spotting Sasha (Inga Schlingmann)’s engagement ring, he mistakenly believes that her fingers are webbed like Moriarty (Randall Park). Watson also thinks he’s seeing Sherlock Holmes. Later, he tells Shinwell that he keeps seeing Sherlock and signs of Moriarty and admits he doesn’t know what’s happening to him.

Watson nearly collapses again in front of the other doctors. Amongst themselves they say he shouldn’t be working. But only Ingrid (Eve Harlow), as Watson’s doctor, can force him to stop.

Since Watson isn’t opening up about what he’s going through, Shinwell also threatens to tell Mary Morstan (Rochelle Aytes) that Watson is no longer capable of being a doctor.

Ingrid finally tells Watson she knows he’s lying about his injuries. Ingrid threatens to have Watson escorted from the building if he doesn’t go home.

Eventually Watson stays out of the office for a week. But Ingrid still says she’s going to figure out whether he slipped on water, or actually collapsed and made his brain injury worse.

Stephens is still mad at Adam

Adam (Peter Mark Kendall) asks Stephens (Peter Mark Kendall) over for dinner. But since Adam is dating Stephens’ ex-fiancee, Stephens isn’t interested. Stephens says he’s already dating someone. Stephens later says that even though he didn’t stop Adam from dating his ex-fiancee, it doesn’t mean he’s happy with it.

Shinwell keeps poisoning Watson

Shinwell meets with Moriarty’s crony. Shinwell asks if Moriarty wants Watson dead, why doesn’t he just get on with it and why does he have to be involved? Shinwell says the pills are debilitating Watson. She tells Shinwell to carry on giving them to him.

Moriarty’s crony warns Shinwell that if he doesn’t keep replacing Watson’s pills, Moriarty will kill the people who raised Shinwell.

What’s wrong with Molly?

Molly Jones visits Watson. While he doesn’t usually take walk-ins, Watson is fascinated by her red hair. He says that Molly has to join the red-headed league, a long-term study. Watson explains that the genes that gave Molly her red hair also mean that she requires more anesthesia.

Molly has been told that she has epilepsy. But she doesn’t believe the diagnosis. She tells Watson that both her parents are dead, one from cancer, the other from a car crash. Watson believes that Molly lied about how her parents died. They need to find out if the fall caused the seizure, or if the seizure caused the fall.

Stephens and Adam can’t find anything on Molly’s parents. But then they discover that Molly Jones changed her name from Linda Mancini. In 2002, her mother Felicia Mancini went to jail for drowning her son and daughter, and has been in jail for 23 years. Molly was the only survivor.

When Watson approaches Molly about her real history, she tries to leave. Eventually she reveals that her father died of cirrhosis of the liver. As she tells Watson this, she feels ill and then collapses into a seizure. Watson deciphers the seizures are brought on by stress.

Watson solves two cases with one look

Watson, Stephens, and Adam will go to speak to Felicia Mancini in prison. On the way, Watson says he sees holes in Felicia’s story regarding the death of her kids, who she apparently drowned in a bathtub.

They meet with Felicia. After just one look at Felicia, Watson knows what’s wrong with her. More than that, Watson says he doesn’t believe that Felicia killed her kids. After looking at her eyes, nose, and ears, Watson surmises that Felicia has a depressed nasal bridge, which suggests she has Long QT syndrome. This is a rare condition that affects the heart's rhythm and can cause sudden death in children and adults. Molly also has it, but she’s been blocking it with beta blockers.

Watson tells Felicia that her son and daughter were literally capable of being scared to death. After Felicia told them that she would eat them up, they believed her and died in the bathtub.

Watson looks to exonerate Felicia. He visits the coroner who did the autopsy on Felicia’s twins and says this is his chance to right his biggest wrong. The coroner admits that even though the evidence didn’t suggest the kids were drowned by Felicia, as they had such little water in their lungs, he was put under pressure to say she murdered them as there was no other credible reason for what happened.

While it might take time, Watson is confident that there’s enough for Felicia to be freed.

Molly goes into the clinic and finds dozens of letters to her that Felicia tried to send over the years. Watson explains to Molly that she has Long QT syndrome. When Molly realizes that her mother might have been in jail for 23 years for something she didn’t do, she has a seizure.

Molly undergoes emergency surgery, in which she’s implanted with an Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator that solves her Long QT syndrome.

Molly goes to see Felicia in prison for the first time in 23 years. She asks Watson to come with her for support. Felicia and Molly cry and hug as Watson watches on. He smiles, reminded of why he endures so much personal pain: so he can help others.

New episodes of Watson air Sundays on CBS, then are available to stream on Paramount Plus the next day.

Discovering his door ajar, he walks inside, saying the name of his wife, Karine. But then an unseen shooter suddenly appears and shoots him in the head.

Who shot Andrew? Will Watson (Morris Chestnut) help him? Take a look below at the recap for Watson episode 2, “Redcoat,” to find out.

Also, catch up with the new medical drama with our Watson episode 1 recap.

Andrew survived

Andrew survived the shooting. But with the bullet still in his head, Andrew no longer recognizes his wife and daughter and has a Scottish accent, insisting he’s actually Patrick Ferguson, a Scottish sniper from the Battle of Brandywine. He has no idea how he got there.

The clinic’s doctors realize he’s acting like this because they were unable to remove the bullet. They need to find a brave surgeon willing to perform the incredibly risky surgery.

To try and prove that Andrew isn’t actually Patrick Ferguson, Watson speaks to a historian who gives him a trove of facts on the real person. He then quizzes Andrew on Ferguson. Andrew gets nervous. Watson believes he’s lying and pretending to be Ferguson on purpose.

Why is Andrew lying?

The doctors investigate Andrew on social media. Stephens Croft (Peter Mark Kendall) notices that Andrew had a tremor in his arm. When he inspects him in his bed, Andrew is holding a rubber ball. It turns out he has a history of Huntington’s disease.

Watson and Sasha (Inga Schlingmann) search Andrew’s home for anomalies. They discover that the grandfather clock was shot at 11:42, but Andrew must have been shot at least an hour later, as that’s when Karine discovered him. A $20,000 bottle of whiskey was also consumed. Sasha deciphers that the break-in was staged, Andrew knows who shot him, and he even helped him stage it.

Watson believes Andrew staged his own murder so that his family could get his life insurance money and he could avoid dying from Huntington’s. Andrew like believes that if pretends to be insane, he can take his own life and his family will still get the insurance money.

That night, Andrew appears on the roof and tries to jump off. But an expectant Watson stops him. When Watson confronts Andrew about staging his own death, he suddenly has a brain aneurysm.

Andrew is put in a medically induced coma to save his life. Watson also realizes that Andrew has Wilson’s disease, which manifests exactly like Huntington’s. Wilson’s disease can be treated and if Andrew survives the surgery he has years left to live. This information provokes Andrew to finally drop the voice and admit he’s not Ferguson.

Can we trust Ingrid?

Watson tries to convince Dr. Brody Davis Emerson to do the surgery, insisting he’ll be written about for years if he pulls it off. But Emerson turns them down.

Ingrid (Eve Harlow) eventually meets with Isaac, a desperate surgeon she has a past relationship with, and offers him the chance to remove the bullet from Andrew’s brain. Isaac was previously found drunk driving. He accuses Ingrid of reporting him to the police so she could get access to grant money that Isaac was due to receive.

Yet Isaac does the surgery on Andrew and it is a success. Mary (Rochelle Aytes) even offers Isaac a job at her hospital afterwards. But Isaac turns her down, saying he needs a fresh start. But as he leaves, he warns Mary about Ingrid. While she might be an incredible talent, Isaac says there will be fallout if she stays at the hospital, and Ingrid will always make sure that the damage doesn’t impact her.

Complicated relationships

Away from all the medical dramas, Watson is obsessed with who Mary is dating. Watson tells Mary he’ll stop prying into her dating life, only to immediately discover that Mary is dating Devin Chaplin (Bethany Brown), the hospital’s head of Human Resources.

Stephens looks as though he has a crush on Sasha, too; at the same time he is spending a lot of money to virtually date a cam-worker.

Elsewhere, Watson asks Shinwell Johnson (Ritchie Coster) for more drugs. Shinwell doesn’t want to get them for Watson, but Watson insists he’s recovering from his brain injuries quicker because of the pills.

One of Moriarty’s workers visits Shinwell at the clinic. Moriarty has a task for Shinwell. Moriarty wants Shinwell to replace Watson’s drugs with different pills. Shinwell replaces the drugs, but is nearly caught by Stephens, who looks at him suspiciously. Later, a worried Shinwell watches Watson take the pills.

New episodes of Watson air Sundays on CBS, then are available to stream on Paramount Plus the next day.

The series premiere of Watson begins in Switzerland, at Reichenbach Falls, as a chase involving John Watson (Morris Chestnut), Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty fall into a river and then down a huge waterfall to what looks like certain death.

Weeks later, Watson wakes up in a hospital bed, having suffered a traumatic brain injury. He can’t even remember the name of his old friend Shinwell Johnson (Ritchie Coster), who tells Watson he was the only one that survived the fall. Johnson says Holmes left Watson money behind to run a clinic and for Johnson to be Watson’s aid.

Where does Watson go? Can he emerge from Sherlock’s shadow? Here’s what happens in Watson episode 1.

Six months later

Watson gets his clinic up and running in Pittsburgh with neurologist Ingrid Derian (Eve Harlow), immunology specialist Sasha Lubbock (Inga Schlingmann) and twin medicine specialists Stephens and Adam Croft (Peter Mark Kendall).

Watson says they’re the four smartest doctors he could find, but Adam suggests Watson hired him and Stephens because they’re twins, and Watson wants to see how they work together. He also believes Watson hired Sasha because she was adopted from a poor region in China and raised in an affluent Dallas neighborhood. But Adam can’t figure out why Watson hired Ingrid.

Later, Watson tells Ingrid he hired her because he could see she’s torn over being a good person and having anti-social behavioral issues. He wants to see which side comes out on top.

What’s wrong with Erika?

While getting an ultrasound, pregnant patient Erika storms out of the clinic having bizarre visions. Watson is asked to treat her by medical director Mary Morton (Rochelle Aytes) — who Watson used to be married to. Erika hasn’t slept in seven days and there’s a family history of fatal familial insomnia, which sees the victim suffering from progressive insomnia and memory loss. Erika insists she saw her father and grandfather die from the disease and believes she only has eight months to live because of it. She wants Watson to keep her alive so she can at least deliver her baby safely.

Watson doesn’t believe Erika’s father Paul died from FFI. Her grandfather, meanwhile, died in a car accident, not from the disease. Watson believes Erika’s lack of sleep might be down to a cycle of anxiety.

The Croft brothers interview Erika’s worried family about Paul and find clips of him. Watson deciphers he was a steel worker, during which time he inhaled dangerous chemicals. Ingrid guesses this gave him the same symptoms of FFI. When doctors couldn’t tell Paul what was wrong with him, Paul convinced himself he had FFI, then killed himself.

The only way the doctors can convince Erika that she doesn’t have FFI is by making her fall and stay asleep. Watson decides to lie to Erika, telling her they’ve developed a test for FFI, and Erika tested negative for it. As he leaves, he tells Erika to get some sleep, which she does.

Mary scolds Watson for lying to Erika, calling it unethical. But Watson will never apologize for helping a patient.

Erika is still ill

Peter Mark Kendall, Eve Harlow, Inga Schlingmann and Morris Chestnut in Watson (Image credit: Colin Bentley/CBS)

But when Erika wakes up, she’s now blind.

Watson now believes Erika has SCID, otherwise known as boy in the bubble syndrome, and her faulty immune system needs to be replaced quickly. This requires a bone marrow transplant. Adam is dubious, especially as Erika was fine a week ago, she’s pregnant and a bone marrow transplant will have long lasting implications. But Sasha agrees, saying Erika will die without it.

They need to find a match for the bone marrow transplant. They start with her brother Damon. But he’s a heroin addict and has been missing for months.

Watson and Johnson go searching for Damon — sharing recollections about Holmes along the way. Autumn, Damon’s cousin and a former heroin addict, gives Watson the alias that Damon uses whenever he’s in trouble. Watson finds Damon and brings him to the clinic for tests.

But before they can do the test on Damon, Autumn reveals she has the same mouth-rash that made Watson realize Erika had SCID. Watson now doesn’t know if the disease is genetic or if Erika caught something and then gave it to Autumn. The team searches through their houses for clues. They find two dead birds. Watson asks Erika if she has a cat? She does. Watson diagnoses Erika and Autumn with songbird fever, a type of salmonella poisoning that usually appears in cats that hunt birds.

When the tests are done, Autumn has songbird fever, but Erika doesn’t. The antibiotics being used to treat Autumn aren’t working, either. It’s only a matter of hours before she goes into septic shock.

Watson just watches Autumn and Erika, looking for clues. By looking at the similarities in their eyes and toes, he realizes Autumn and Erika aren’t just cousins, they’re half-sisters. This means their diseases can be treated easily with some regular antibiotics. When Autumn still goes into septic shock, Mary has to quickly perform surgery to save her.

Watson is struggling

While talking to Erika post-surgery, Watson reveals he picked working with Holmes over staying with Mary. He admits that, when he thought he was going to die in the freezing water, his last thought was regret that he wouldn’t get a chance to repair their relationship.

Mary admits Watson is a better doctor after working under Holmes, that he can see into people's bodies and souls. She’s lucky to be around Watson, but believes their old relationship is never coming back. Mary doesn’t believe she’s the reason Watson survived that fall. There’s another reason and he needs to find it.

Moriarty is still alive and has a secret ally

Ingrid is helping Watson’s psychological recovery from the accident. Watson is slowly remembering things about Moriarty, such as his middle fingers being webbed, but he keeps hiding things from Ingrid. She threatens to quit as his therapist.

Later, Johnson gets on the Duquesne Incline with a mysterious person, who says that the city suddenly looks so vulnerable from this point. He notes that a fire, flood or even a disease could easily be unleashed on Pittsburgh.

The person has webbed fingers and is revealed to be Moriarty (Randall Park). Johnson gives Moriarty the case of samples that he wanted. Moriarty then departs, telling a regretful Johnson he’s always watching him.

Watson continues with new episodes on Sunday, February 16, on CBS. Smith). And, after a season away, Doon Mackichan returns as deliciously egotistical Cathy, making a brazen re-entrance after unceremoniously dumping husband Colin (Jonathan Watson) last year!

Here, in exclusive interviews, original cast members Alex Norton, 73, who plays mild-mannered Eric, and Jonathan Watson, 65, who stars as tactless Colin, tell us more…

Two Doors Down stars Alex Norton and Jonathan Watson talk series 7... (Image credit: Future)

Two Doors Down — series 7 interview with Alex Norton and Jonathan Watson

Were you thrilled when you learned Doon was returning for series seven?

JONATHAN: “I was one of the first to know and I was absolutely delighted when I got the call. I love working with Doon. As soon as we started filming during the summer it was as if she’d never been away.”

ALEX: “It’s absolutely great. She’s such a big force in the show — literally! When people stop me they always say ‘that mad neighbour is fantastic!’ Doon enjoyed doing other things and taking some time off, but we’re all glad she’s back with Cathy’s high stakes lunacy!”

Can you reveal how Cathy comes home?

JONATHAN: “Colin struggled and missed Cathy terribly at first last year… until he found Tinder, which shows you what a shallow individual he is! I think viewers will want to see Colin and Cathy together…”

ALEX: “Eric tries to give Colin some friendly advice when Cathy returns, but he doesn’t take it because he’s glad she’s back and thinks they’re bonded, which is all to the good!”

A rude, entitled snob with a self-control problem, Cathy has been much-missed! (Image credit: BBC Studios)

Siobhan Redmond isn’t playing Anne-Marie this series and we’re not going to lie… We’re a wee bit disappointed there won’t be a Cathy/Anne-Marie crossover — Doon and Siobhan are both such excellent comedy actors!

JONATHAN: “It’s not going to happen, well certainly not in the series we shot recently. It’s just one of those things. The best thing to do is to imagine it!”

ALEX: “Sparks would fly if Anne-Marie went toe-to-toe with Cathy, but Siobhan was quite happy just to let go. I can’t think of anyone who could have played Anne-Marie better, she was up for everything — remember last series when she came in with a bowl of peas, tripped and ended up face down in the peas and carpet? Brilliant! It's not everybody who would do that.

“I’ve known her for years. She was my boss in Taggart for a while and my fiancée in a one-off true TV drama set in 18th century Edinburgh called Deacon Brodie with Billy Connolly as the title character. It’s like standing near an electrical transformer. She's got incredible energy. Doon doesn't exactly stay in character but she tends to keep it going and switches it on to full power when the cameras are turning. When the cameras are off she just goes down to a low hum, but is still Cathy!”

JONATHAN: “Materialist, insensitive and selfish people like Colin and Cathy exist. In episode three an old flame of Ian’s comes back and some of the things Colin comes out with — he’s got no filter!”

ALEX: “Ian and Gordon got engaged in the last series and are now talking about the wedding, which is brilliant because there’s so much potential for things to go wrong! Gordon’s parents Sandra and Graham [Alexander Kirk and Maggie O'Neill reprising their series 4 guest roles] are back and they’re so good.”

Who finds it hardest to keep a straight face during filming?

BOTH: “Elaine C. We go back a long way, Elaine and I, and always make each other laugh. If even a little thing goes wrong, I can’t look at her, because when I see that wee twitch at the corner of her mouth it sets me off!”

JONATHAN: “She pulls this face that makes her look about eight-years old — very like her grandchild actually! — and that sets me off. That and Alex carrying a tray of crockery, promising to be quiet. The slightest clink of China gets me going! If the hilarity gets too much we’re very quickly put back in place and reminded that we’ve got a schedule to keep!”

<img id="vNiDC76H5wxPo4PsFMJms6" name="451270.jpg" alt="Elaine C. [‘Eric’s Colon’ Series 3]. He’s had a wee operation and spends the whole episode face down on the couch with cushions under him and his bum in the air… You know, complete lack of dignity! Of course the neighbours all come in with their suggestions and he just wants rid of everybody. I’ve watched that a few times and it really makes me laugh.”

JONATHAN: “I have happy memories from loads of episodes so it's quite difficult to choose... There’s one called ‘Fish Friday’ [Series 3], it was for Beth’s birthday and was filmed in a pub in Glasgow. Cathy was away and Colin got absolutely hammered! I really enjoyed that one, it was great fun and we had a laugh doing it.”

Deepest sympathies on the sad passing of Two Doors Down’s co-creator Simon Carlyle in August…

ALEX: “Thank you. We finished the last shot on the last day and were all hugging each other and saying ‘great work, terrific, well done everybody’. Then a few days later we got a phone call. We were completely stunned. I don’t know what they’ll do now that Simon isn’t here any more. He and his co-writer Gregor Sharp are a great team. Simon initiated the series based on characters he knew growing up. Everybody loved him. He was a very clever man and a very clever writer. It’s a great loss.”

JONATHAN: “The honest answer is we don't know [if Two Doors Down will return], but we’d all like it to and Simon wanted to do more. It may be a lovely legacy to him if we continue, but we’ll just have to wait and see. It’s still pretty raw.”

What do you think is the secret to the show’s success?

ALEX "It’s really funny! There’s a truth behind it and I’ve always felt that comedy needs to be truthful. There’s an old adage, ‘Comedy is tragedy with its trousers down.’ You know, life trips us all up and we keep on slipping on the banana peel that we didn’t see. I think Door Doors Down is a classic comedy in that sense, with Beth and Eric as the calm centre of this storm of craziness."

JONATHAN "Yes, and I think that’s why people can relate to all the characters— people like that really do exist. It never ceases to amaze me how warmly the programme is received.

"I think when you strip everything away it comes down to Gregor and Simon’s writing. When we did the one-off ten years ago nobody for a second assumed it would go to a series. It was only the response it got on social media that really made them think, ‘wait a minute, we might have something here.’ It's a real privilege to be in it right from the get-go; I'm very proud to be part of it.”

Two Doors Down season 7 — episode guide, guest stars and everything you need to know

Two Doors Down series 7 debuts on BBC1 on Friday, November 24 2023 at 9.30pm with a hilarious episode entitled 'Cathy's Come Home.
