So instead, she tries to figure out the ending a man like Joe deserves while the two of them go on the run. He finally admits to her that Kate (Charlotte Richie) sent something to the police that he will have a hard time denying, though he insists it made total sense in context.

His idea is to lie low while the noise dies down. Bronte comments how she has nothing but him, and in her narration, she explains he has sadly become her whole life, but she’s going to use that as her key to get out of this. Joe calls Will (Robin Lord Taylor), who is working on passports for them, for another favor: helping him reach Henry (Frank DeMaio).

At a gas station, Bronte buys a copy of Beck’s book, and soon enough, they reach the secluded house that they’ll be squatting in for a few days. Will has everything ready with the passports for “Ezra and Ella,” the names of their immortal protagonists. However, Joe’s getting a surge of superstition thanks to all of the women of his past.

At dinner, Joe reveals he doesn’t have a backup copy of his book, but will write it up again once they’re safe. Bronte asks if he’s come up with an ending, and it opens up a conversation about what his protagonist deserves. He grows defensive when she mentions a reckoning, pointing out how he’s already lost his son, home and Mooney’s. She switches the focus to the fact that immortality isn’t real and says she’s worried about the two of them, asking if she makes it in his story. He immediately assures her that she does, and the most important thing to him is her happiness and safety.

With you, love has a price

Joe wants to give Bronte a taste of their future, so the two of them go out on the lake. While it’s “peak romance,” she manages to keep her head clear. While in bed, she pulls a gun on him and demands he tell her how he killed Beck. He tries to talk his way out of it, continuing to act as if Marienne, Kate, and Nadia were the problems, but it’s not working because Bronte wants the truth.

Bronte throws the copy of Beck’s book in front of him, demanding he redact himself and give Beck her voice back. He does so while convincing himself that they can bounce back from this; it’s all part of the universe’s plan for them. As he finishes, he tries to convince her that no one will ever love her the way he does again, saying all he did was embrace her despite her tricks.

Joe’s phone then goes off, and he begs Bronte to let him answer for Henry’s sake. She does, making sure it’s on speaker so she can listen to the conversation. He is able to speak with his son, but Henry shocks him when he questions Joe about what he did to Kate before calling his father a monster. It causes Joe to have a complete breakdown, acting as if he is still the victim in all of this. It’s enough to have Bronte ready to call the police and end things, but Joe violently attacks her in what might be the most brutal sequence of the series. They wrestle for the gun, which ends with a shot and a bloody Bronte running out of the house.

She throws him off her track by leaving her necklace in a different area, going back inside to get the phone. Unfortunately, it’s cracked, but she manages to call 911 before jumping out the window and dropping the phone on the ground so he won’t see. While going after her, Joe confesses he is the one who broke her ankle, and now it’s working in his favor. He finally shows his true colors, commenting that he’ll show her how he killed Beck before attempting to choke her.

Bronte escapes by stabbing him with the self-defense cat ears keychain she bought at the gas station. She runs away again, but he throws them both into the lake and tries to drown her. It seems as if he is successful, just as the police sirens can be heard in the background. He kills one officer, hoping to escape, but more begin to close in. It turns out Bronte survived. She finds him in the woods and holds him at gunpoint as he begs her to kill him, but she won’t because she wants him to finally be forced to see himself and everything he’s done. She reclaims her name, Louise, and expresses that “the fantasy of a man like you is how we cope with the reality of a man like you.” Joe goes to attack her again, but she shoots him in the genitals as the cops finally reach them, arresting him.

He has a trial, and Louise describes the evidence as horrific and the truth as undeniable. He is convicted of the murders of both Love and Beck, with more allegations snowballing into more convictions. He will never be free again.

How does You season 5 end?

Penn Badgley in a jail cell in You (Image credit: Clifton Prescod/Netflix)

Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) returns to writing and teaching, using her gifts to help other women process their own trauma. Charges against Harrison (Pete Ploszek) for Reagan’s murder were dropped, while Maddie (Anna Camp) didn’t have to serve time despite being tried for arson and her sister’s murder. Instead, she went to rehab for her pill addiction and is now expecting twins. Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) survived the fire and was “reborn,” keeping custody of Henry and championing the art of Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), whom the world now loves. Meanwhile, Teddy (Griffin Matthews) has made the Lockwood Corporation 100% nonprofit.

Louise pulled Joe’s contributions out of Beck’s book, releasing the redacted version, which is more praised and more Beck. Still, Beck won’t get the chance to make what she wanted to make of her life because of Joe, so to honor her and the rest of his victims, the survivors must make the most of theirs. Louise concludes that every day that passes, Joe shrinks, and while she has no idea who she wants to be, she can’t wait to find out.

As for Joe, he will spend the rest of his life alone in a cage with no hope of being held, and that punishment is worse than he ever could have imagined. He tries to reason it’s not fair and that he never stood a chance because of the environment he grew up in. We then see him open and read letters from crazy fans, who write what they want him to do to them. It makes him turn the blame on us, saying maybe we have a problem as a society and we should fix what’s broken in us, that maybe the problem isn’t him, maybe it’s you.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

She answers, “A castle.” Despite her promising that good will prevail with Henry (Frank DeMaio), Joe has taken steps to break the chains between him and the Lockwoods. He planted Reagan’s teeth in Harrison’s bag, leading to his and Maddie’s arrests for her murder. He’s also tracking Kate and Henry as the two return to New York.

As for his and Bronte’s future, he’s already bought an engagement ring and also manipulated everything with Kate in a way that has Bronte apologizing for the fact that his ex-wife made Joe prove his love through killing. Before they can talk further, Bronte is interrupted by an email from a publishing company, requesting a meeting, where the publisher wants her to write her and Joe’s love story.

In a romantic gesture, Joe tries to buy her a castle, only to discover that Kate had emptied his account. He goes to Mooney’s to get his secret stash and sees an eviction notice with a new lock on both the store and apartment. His solution? Kate has to die.

Later, Bronte then breaks into the apartment to get her stuff, only to be caught by Kate. The latter tries to talk to Bronte about Joe and remembering the reason she went after him in the first place, wanting to get through to her. Sadly, it doesn’t work.

You’re so predictable

Kate sends her lawyers to bail Maddie and Harrison out, but this situation throws a wrench in her plans. She can no longer just kill Joe with a hitman, she now has to get a confession from Joe for planting Reagan’s teeth. How is she going to do that? With the cage and Nadia’s (Amy-Leigh Hickman) help. Before that, she’s resigning and appointing Teddy (Griffin Matthews) as the new CEO.

After following someone Joe thinks is Kate, he gets abducted and wakes up inside his cage with Nadia reading Joe’s vampire romance out loud. Kate appears and makes her demands, saying if he gives them a confession they’ll let him go to an island with no extradition treaties so he can start over. If he refuses, they’re going to start a carbon monoxide leak to make it look like he killed himself. As for Nadia, she wants a confession from Joe regarding Rhys’ murder so that the whole world knows that she is innocent. He refuses.

However, Kate and Nadia then bring out another familiar face: Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle), whom Joe thought he killed in season 4. She reveals that she and Nadia fooled him before the conversation spirals with Joe saying that the man who locked her in the cage wasn’t him, and he has healed since. Of course, she sees through him and doesn’t allow him to twist the narrative of what happened between them, especially when he brings up her daughter.

Marienne goes off on him, expressing how he destroyed her and the fact that she is overprotective of her daughter now because of him. Marienne goes through every single thing he did to her and stresses that he is an abuser, not a white knight. Naturally, he still views the events differently, trying to say that he saved her and has spent his entire life saving women like her from abusive men. Rather than wasting her words further, Marienne concludes that no matter what he does, he is going to die in that cage.

You’re one of those women

Madeline Brewer and Tati Gabrielle talk in You (Image credit: Courtesy of Netflix)

After saying her piece to Joe, Marienne goes upstairs in the bookstore to breathe, where Bronte sees her from outside. She lets her inside, both immediately recognizing each other. Bronte is shocked to find out she is alive; it’s the opening Marienne needs to get through to her. The two sit down, and Marienne makes a vulnerable yet powerful speech about men like Joe and how, as long as women like them are alive, it’s not too late, somehow perfectly summing up exactly how every victim and survivor of Joe has felt about him and being loved by him.

Marienne’s earlier words made Joe realize they are not going to let him go, but Kate is prepared for the consequences. Joe loses his temper and throws every hateful and hurtful word he can think of at Kate, but she remains unaffected. Nadia, however, doesn’t. She pulls out a gun, aiming it at Joe, ready to shoot and end this for good. Kate stops her and the two go upstairs, where Marienne joins them.

Nadia insists Joe needs to die now because the justice system is never on their side. Kate volunteers to kill him on her own, wanting Marienne and Nadia to be able to continue living their lives. She considers this penance for everything she has been complicit in. If she gets caught, she will tell the police that she acted alone. While they’re gone, we see that Joe hid a spare key to the cage inside his arm, which he rips open.

When Kate goes back to the basement, Joe has escaped the cage, and the two wrestle over her gun. He shoots her and hits her with a hammer, but before he can leave, Maddie, who has decided to take things into her own hands after Harrison confessed to her sister’s murder so that the police would let her go, interrupts. She locks the door so Joe can’t get back up and reveals that she is going to set Mooney’s on fire. He tries to tell her that Kate is with him, but she doesn’t believe him. One match and it’s all in flames.

Joe rushes back down to get Kate’s phone, but she hits him with the hammer, knocking him out. He eventually comes to just as the two of them are on the verge of death; Kate comments, “Till death do us part.” He commends her for sacrificing herself to kill him, before also confessing that he killed her father, poisoned Love and started the fire to get rid of the evidence. It’s exactly what Kate was hoping for, recording the conversation and sending the voice memo to Nadia to share with the police.

Outside, Bronte calls Dom (Natasha Behnam) to tell her about Marienne and to apologize for getting lost in Joe. But before she can leave, she sees Mooney on fire. She goes inside, aiming to save Kate and Marienne, but the former is already gone. Joe thinks Bronte came to rescue him, saying that Kate tried to kill him and that he was defending himself. Thankfully, she doesn’t believe him this time, but she does manage to get him out.

He proposes to her outside of a burning Mooney’s. Wanting justice and answers, she says yes after determining she is the only person in the world who can stop him. She’s the hero of their story, and he’ll never see her coming.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

Bronte reveals that Beck was her friend, but when she got to know Joe, she realized her previous suspicions were wrong, adding that the feelings between them became real for her.

The two share something true about themselves, as Bronte tells him she once crashed a stranger’s funeral to see if she’d cry since she didn’t cry at her mom’s. She admits that scares her, but finds it comforting. She doesn’t want to run, she wants to be with him.

Joe then says he has something for her — Dane (Jefferson White), the man who tried to hurt her the night before, locked in his cage. He tells Bronte that this is an offering so that he doesn’t have to hide who he is anymore, allowing her to decide his fate.

She talks to Dane, trying to figure out what he deserves. He eventually apologizes for attacking her, but comments he is going to be more careful next time, only going after females who really deserve it. This sets them back to square one, but Bronte does end up letting Dane go.

When Joe returns, she explains to him she had Dane write down his address and passwords, and told him they would be watching and would come after him if he called the police or targeted anyone else. She adds that she realizes this whole thing was actually a test for her before stepping into the cage, giving him permission to ask her anything. She answers all of his questions honestly, and then Joe takes his turn, revealing that he enjoys killing and he needs to know that she won’t leave. He wants to get out, but she pushes him further, expressing that she’s not going anywhere and that he doesn’t have to kill to earn her love.

Still, Joe tracks Dane down that night and murders him.

It was an unforgivable mistake

Charlotte Ritchie and Amy-Leigh Hickman in You (Image credit: Clifton Prescod/Netflix)

Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) lets it slip that Joe was the Eat the Rich killer, shocking Kate, who promises her she’s going to put Joe away forever after they get her out of there. Being in London also gives us a cameo of Lady Phoebe (Tilly Keeper), whom Henry greets excitedly. As Henry gets ready for dinner, Kate tells Phoebe that Joe killed their friends. Phoebe tries to take the blame, but Kate rejects it immediately, taking accountability.

As promised, Kate does get Nadia out and asks her to be an eyewitness against Joe. However, Nadia doesn’t understand how she could ask her for anything after ruining her life, revealing that her father’s heart gave out after her trial. Kate says she will never ask for forgiveness because she doesn’t deserve it, but this is their way to make Joe pay for everything he’s done.

Phoebe and Nadia have a heart-to-heart about Kate, the former promising that Nadia can trust her. Meanwhile, Henry wants to see his father, but Kate has to explain that because he hurt people they won't be able to see him for a long time, and that he will probably go to jail. Henry doesn’t believe her, saying she made Joe mad and that it's all her fault.

Henry finds Phoebe’s phone charging and calls Joe, asking him about what Kate said and revealing that they’re in London. Joe assures him it was just a little joke before asking to speak with his mother. The conversation doesn’t go well and concludes with Kate saying he will never see Henry again.

Kate’s lawyer says as long as Nadia goes public and testifies, their evidence and story are enough to put Joe in prison for life. Due to Kate’s involvement, there is no guarantee of immunity, but she is okay with whatever it takes. The problem is that it could take years, and they just can’t wait. Kate decides they must kill Joe themselves.

Please don’t ask me that

Harrison (Pete Ploszek) finally figures out that Reagan is actually Maddie (Anna Camp) after she calls him baby, leading to him asking about a million different questions about where his wife is. Maddie knocks Harrison out and calls Joe for help. Joe rushes over to fix things. At first Joe tries to calm Harrison down and talk to him without using violence, but it doesn’t work, so Maddie asks him to let her try. He agrees to give her 15 minutes.

Maddie does manage to get through to Harrison by saying she needs him and bringing up Gretchen. Harrison promises that he won’t say anything, and Joe lets him live.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

Clayton’s family is also lawyering up, and his last name allows Joe to make the connection to Dr. Nicky. However, he is not capable of being patient.

Meanwhile, Kate’s (Charlotte Richie) lawyer says they need to come out swinging against Joe, but she stresses she can’t turn on him yet due to them being entangled. For now, they have to let him dig his own grave. She has Teddy (Griffin Matthews) take Henry (Frankie DeMaio) to an apartment in the West Village that Joe doesn’t know about.

She tries to send Maddie to a facility to process everything and recover, but her half-sister insists she is not having a breakdown. Kate apologizes for not protecting her and says she wants to make it up to her because she loves her, but all Maddie wants is her life back with Harrison (Pete Ploszek) and Gretchen, so Kate tries to offer her a new plan so she can have that.

Joe goes to Henry’s school, but they already know about the custody agreement. He has a backup plan though, asking the teacher to give his son a book, which has a tracker in it. This allows him to find where Teddy took him, and despite his brother-in-law trying to stop him with a knife, Joe overpowers him. Thankfully, before anything can happen, Henry interrupts them. Joe tells his son that he hasn’t left him and has another moment or two before security comes and drags him out.

When he gets home, Joe discovers he’s trending thanks to a video done by Bronte’s (Madeline Brewer) friends, accusing him of being a serial killer and listing the names of multiple victims of his. Past characters from throughout the show use the opportunity to talk about Joe, including Dottie (Saffron Burrows), Annika (Kathryn Gallagher) and Ethan (Zach Cherry). Sherry (Shalita Grant), Cary (Travis Van Winkle) and Paco (Luca Padovan) are also featured in the montage, but they show their support instead. This flips Joe out as expected, and ruins his chances of getting Henry back.

As for Kate, she decides to take Henry with her to London to fix her mistakes, wanting to do what she needs to in order to make everything better. She visits Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman) in prison, admitting she helped frame her before saying she wants to get her out and take down Joe together.

Stop ignoring me

Joe reaches out to Maddie for help with PR, using the video from the cage as leverage. She agrees, finding a journalist/influencer for an interview where he can save his reputation. All he has to do is admit to the mistakes he made without naming them, apologize if he caused pain, tease unrelated childhood trauma and not cry.

At Maddie’s encouragement, he takes the cameras down to the basement to show everyone the cage, stepping inside and explaining that it is for the storage and protection of rare books. He then starts to talk about his complicated relationship with Mr. Mooney, which included locking him inside for days. This is enough to make him break down, and they pause the live stream.

Maddie reminds him that the whole internet is watching and tells him to pull himself together. This is when he reads Bronte’s text, and that convinces him she doesn’t think he’s a monster. He backtracks on his earlier statements, saying he was in love and captivated by Louise before adding that he is not a victim and has a lot of privilege.

He finishes the interview strongly, leading to the public’s opinion of him starting to change and just like that, he’s back on top.

You did fall for me

Madeline Brewer in You (Image credit: Clifton Prescod/Netflix)

Bronte is trying to text Joe, but she’s struggling with what to say. Her friends want her to be the face of their Joe takedown post, but she won’t do it because she won’t have a part in ruining an “innocent man’s life.” She tells Dom (Natasha Beham) that Joe saved her, and she tries to remind Louise that Bronte is not real, but Louise won’t hear any more of the conversation and leaves.

Bronte watches Joe’s interview live stream, where he says that their affair was inappropriate and that he is deeply sorry for his actions. He further says that Bronte and her friends were trying to goad him into someone they thought he was, that none of it was real, and that she is the biggest regret of his life.

That allows her to find her words, texting Joe that she told the police the truth, that he was protecting her, before purchasing a flight home. When Joe looks for her socials again, they’re all deleted, and instead, he discovers hate videos about Bronte with comments talking about how they should find her and teach her a lesson.

Joe realizes one of the men is actually stalking her, so he goes to save her from being abducted. But the next morning, we discover that he has a still-asleep Bronte lying and handcuffed to his bed.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

The two are on a phone call, but Beck hangs up to meet with a student: Louise, aka Bronte (Madeline Brewer). It turns out that Louise knew Beck. This entire thing has been a setup from the beginning, and now it's Joe’s word against hers. Kate’s (Charlotte Richie) lawyers have already bailed him out because it’s the “Lockwood” way to shut it down and deal with it internally.

When questioning Bronte, the detective starts off by sharing how Bronte’s friends said Bronte moved to New York to catfish Joe. She admits that it's true and explains they wanted justice for Beck.

Thanks to more flashbacks, we get more of an idea of the dynamic between Beck and Bronte before the latter had to drop out to care for her mom. Specifically, Beck helped her with her writing and encouraged her to hold onto her love for it. The name Bronte is actually inspired by a quote that Beck wrote in a book for her student before she left.

When she saw what happened to Beck on the news, Bronte kept their connection alive by reading her book. However, she realizes that parts of the book were not really written by her, leading to her falling down a rabbit hole on Reddit, where she discovers a group of vigilantes who want to bring Joe down, including Clayton (Tom Francis). Dr. Nicky, who Joe framed for Beck’s murder, is Clayton’s father. This allowed Clayton to have access to his therapy recordings of Beck and Joe’s individual sessions.

You’re not in trouble

Originally, they were only supposed to get close enough to keep an eye on him while staying invisible, but that wasn’t enough for Bronte, which is why she broke into the bookstore. Her friends quickly realize something is off and follow her, seeing her come out of Mooney’s after meeting Joe for the first time.

She tells the detective about Joe’s murder fantasies and shares that reading them made her realize he’s a romantic, which gave her the idea to make him fall in love with her. Clayton’s job was to give him someone to protect Bronte from. Everything, even Bronte’s socials, was orchestrated. The problem is that Bronte actually began to believe that Joe is innocent despite her friends telling her not to let him fool her. She really struggled with the entire thing, feeling like she was losing herself.

Despite her attempt to call the plan off, Joe still showed up at the house because of Clayton’s Instagram Story with the message “If you love someone, let them go. If they come back to you, they are yours.” Bronte continues to explain the incident at the diner to the detective, painting Clayton as the villain for the situation he created, and concluding that what Joe did was self-defense rather than murder.

You did this to yourself

Meanwhile, Kate is doing her best to get the video taken down from everywhere, but it’s not easy. When Joe gets home, she goes off on him, even bringing up Reagan (Anna Camp) and how Maddie (Camp) told her everything. He tries to point out that Maddie is the one who did the murder, but Kate makes it clear that he is the one who killed her. She says she doesn’t want him anywhere near them, but Joe is prepared to drag her down with him.

Thinking ahead, Kate sent Henry to safety, away from Joe. It turns out that when Joe signed the agreement from their lawyers at the police station, there was a temporary custody agreement in the paperwork, meaning that he has agreed that he is not fit to care for his son. He charges at Kate, but she pushes him back and threatens him with armed bodyguards who are in the other room. As long as he behaves, he will have access to her family’s resources, but if he tries to come back or run, he’s on his own.

Joe goes to stay at the apartment above the bookstore, only to find a camera that Bronte had hidden in a book.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

One of those ways is to discreetly hire a masseuse for her, wanting her to relax. However, when the masseuse tells Bronte that “Mr. Goldberg” has already taken care of the tip, Kate actually overhears the interaction.

Joe’s plan does work, as Bronte leaves him her new writing on his desk for his feedback, which allows Joe some insight into her fantasies. The two later move things to the bedroom, and Bronte is about to give Joe complete control over her body, but when his phone goes off, she stops things from going further.

When Joe arrives back at the bookstore later on, he finds a letter in his typewriter saying that she is leaving town and thanking him for everything. As we know, breakups with Joe never go well, so he does everything possible to track her down. She does actually call him from a public phone later on, needing to hear his voice, but quickly hangs up and tells him to forget about her.

He calls back, and someone working at a diner answers, allowing him to find where she is. Joe finds Bronte is there, however, she tases him, seemingly thinking he was an intruder. When he wakes up, she admits that she was with Clayton but sent him packing. She left because things between them were too real, and she was the other woman. He shares that she won’t be the other woman because he is getting a divorce from Kate.

Just as the two are back on the same page, Clayton (Tom Francis) arrives and a fight breaks out between him and Joe. After he pushes Bronte to the ground, Joe kills him. The fact that it’s in front of Bronte is bad enough, but her friends managed to livestream the entire thing on social media. He tries to get Bronte to leave with him but she pulls out a taser as her friend comments that they “got him.” It was all just a setup, she was catfishing him.

Kate’s killing it

Charlotte Ritchie and Griffin Matthews in You (Image credit: Courtesy of Netflix)

Three years ago, Kate hired Cynthia to scrub things about Joe, but has now decided that she wants to know everything. After finding out about the affair, she calls Teddy (Griffin Matthews), who comforts her and tells her that she is not a fool for believing in love and her marriage. Given what’s happened though, Teddy wants to know the truth about who she married. Surprisingly, she does tell him about the things Joe hasn’t told her, such as cheating with Marienne, who is now missing, and Uncle Bob.

Teddy rightfully tells her she is not safe, but Kate insists they are okay as long as Joe doesn’t know that they know the truth. They will act normally while she works on an exit strategy.

With Bronte gone, Joe has to go home and actually interact with Kate, who is so suspicious that she dumps the tea he made for her and is hiding a knife under her pillow.

After Henry discovers the knife, Joe confronts Kate, leading to everything finally coming to the surface. Kate questions him about Reagan (Camp), shares that she thinks he killed Love, and that he’s having an affair with Bronte. As always, he turns it around on her, saying how he forgave her past and now she’s twisting the story to make him out to be the villain when she used him. But she’s not playing this game, Kate wants a divorce. Joe doesn’t even entertain the conversation before leaving the house completely.

They’re gonna find out

Maddie is still playing the part of Reagan, but her dead twin is currently haunting her, and she’s definitely struggling. After a disastrous morning breakfast and Kate asking questions, Maddie texts Joe to meet and says they need to accelerate the timeline of Reagan’s death or disappearance. Unfortunately, they can’t because that would raise suspicions. Joe reminds her that in one month, Reagan will head to the Philippines, where she will rent a boat and become lost at sea.

Kate shows up unannounced at the house, and Maddie greets her as herself rather than Reagan, leading to her half-sister eventually discovering that Reagan is dead. Maddie reveals everything, including Joe’s role in it all. After, Kate shares what happened with Teddy, before confessing her part in Bob’s death and covering for her husband in London. It’s enough to send her brother spiraling.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

She reveals to Kate she found Uncle Bob’s guy in London, who told her that she framed Nadia for the murder of Rhys Montrose. From there, she kept digging and realized that Joe was actually behind the murder, suggesting he killed their uncle to keep the secret. Reagan is also having Bob’s body exhumed to find out if it really was a suicide or not.

Reagan’s ultimatum: resign or she’ll send them both to prison. Later that night, Kate decides that she’s done and is going to resign. When Joe pushes back, Kate refuses to budge. She acknowledges the darkness in her, but she does not accept it; she despises that part of herself, and that Joe won’t even try to control it in himself.

As a result, Joe takes matters into his own hands once again by breaking into Reagan’s house. What he’s not expecting is how well his sister-in-law can fight back; at one point she manages to take his mask off, revealing Joe’s identity. After a major struggle, he knocks her out and actually abducts her this time.

Kate has to break the news to Teddy (Griffin Matthews), and while she tries to deny that Reagan has anything to do with her resignation, he doesn’t believe it and begins to suspect that she’s afraid of what Joe will do.

There’s more than one way to hurt someone

Joe’s plan is simple: Maddie just has to pretend to be Reagan for long enough to save the literacy initiative, install Teddy on the board and then step down. While Maddie is hesitant, Joe adds that, as Reagan, she could also undo the prenup so that Harrison doesn’t lose anything, and they could be together forever. However, he’s sure to leave out the part of murdering Reagan during all of this and even manages to help Maddie access the way Reagan takes her hurt and lashes out at other people.

After kidnapping her, Joe puts Reagan in the cage with her twin and instructs Maddie to kill her. This would be his only way to ensure that she won’t go to the authorities, otherwise, he will murder them both. Once he leaves, Maddie shares what Joe wants her to do, and Reagan laughs at the idea, almost proving everything Joe’s said about how her twin views her.

Things spiral between them from there. After Reagan calls her the lesser twin, Maddie actually uses the insulin pen to kill her, as Joe told her to. It’s enough for him to finally let her out of the cage.

The next day, Maddie shows up at the office as Reagan. Just like that, the twin switch is complete. She announces she will be taking a step back from her role at the corporation.

She then notes that Maddie will not be stepping down, and all of Reagan’s votes will go to her. With that, Kate is able to get Teddy a board seat.

It’s opening time

Penn Badgley and Madeline Brewer in You (Image credit: Courtesy of Netflix)

Bronte (Madeline Brewer) is pushing Joe past his comfort zone by planning Mooney’s opening for the next night. She also notices the shift in his behavior since she mentioned the word affair, so she quickly backtracks, telling him they are nowhere near that territory, adding that she is not a homewrecker. But she is allowing Joe to read her work, which only brings them closer and continues to convince Joe that she’s the one. While alone at the bookstore later on, she finds what he wrote about her the night before.

At the opening, things take a turn when Bronte’s ex, Clayton, shows up. One thing leads to another, and when he grabs her arm, Joe gets involved, telling him it’s time to leave. Unsurprisingly, he doesn’t make any move to go, so Joe ends up grabbing and holding him against a bookcase, demanding he get out and stay away from her. That scares him enough to listen.

Bronte heads outside, needing some air. Joe follows her, apologizing for interfering and says he didn’t mean to scare her. But Bronte answers by saying he can’t do romantic things like protect her when he has a wife. She then brings up the pages, calling them the “most sensual, tender, complex, beautiful things that someone could ever want to read about themselves.” He simply comments that they were the easiest pages he has ever written.

The next day, Bronte is packed up to leave, but Joe doesn’t let her walk out the door, instead asking her to stay, and the two finally kiss.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

As for Joe (Penn Badgley), he wants what’s inside to come out.

Here's what happened in You season 5 episode 3, "Imposter Syndrome."

There’s blood in the water

You recaps

You s5 e1
You s5 e2
You s5 e4

Teddy (Griffin Matthews) shares with Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) the key to taking Reagan down: embezzlement. Kate is thrilled, but when she goes to talk to her half-sister, she discovers Harrison (Pete Ploszek) leaving the house and Reagan crying on the couch. It turns out that she received a call from security, who found her half-naked husband locked in a closet from when Joe kidnapped Maddie. Since her twin’s phone was on the floor at the office, she put the pieces together that Maddie and Harrison were having an affair for years.

Reagan will be divorcing him and actually apologizes to Kate for her recent actions. This does give Kate an opening to demand Reagan leave the kids out of it, or risk the scandal being front page tomorrow morning, leading to Reagan agreeing to fix things with the school and dropping the charges.

Back at home, Kate tells Joe that since they murdered Uncle Bob, she can’t sleep. She lies awake at night, paralyzed, replaying and imagining how things could have ended differently. When she does sleep, the nightmares are horrifying. She then comments how she used to be able to read his mind, but that’s changed, and she doesn’t understand why he is not suffering the same way she is. He reasons that he does not feel guilty because he considers this his purpose and what makes him special. But Kate doesn’t want that part of him.

Make no mistake, you are the hostage here

Joe, desperate to fix his mess up, tries to tell Maddie he has a little crush on her, and when he found out that she was with another guy, he made a dumb and jealous mistake. He suggests they pretend this never happened, pushing the Harrison narrative and the mistake she’s made, but Maddie knows exactly what his plan with Reagan was because she now believes Kate killed Uncle Bob as well.

Joe does manage to come up with an idea to build trust, asking Maddie to give him dirt on Reagan that would ruin her life and stop her from ruining theirs. However, she calls his bluff because if he could kill her, he already would have. Plus, she reminds him that she has to take insulin, which he will have to go get for her.

When Maddie pushes him too far later on, Joe goes off about how not many people have seen this side of him and lived. With the news of the affair now out in the open with the family, he uses it to solve his problem, telling Maddie and explaining that she and Harrison are free to disappear together, but Reagan finding out is enough to send her spiraling.

Penn Badgley in You (Image credit: Cr. She considers this now a fate worse than death, saying that he should just kill her. It makes Joe feel bad enough to enter the cage to give her the insulin shot.

Reagan goes live from Maddie’s socials, pretending to be her to get ahead of the scandal and announce that she will be ceding her board voting capacity to her twin sister. This is the inspiration Joe needed for his Maddie issue: she can become Reagan.

Meet Louise Flannery

Bronte takes Joe to an estate sale so they can buy used romance novels for the store. When they return, she starts to describe a part of one of the books. When he doubts her, they put the actions in question to the test: a hair brush and lip bite combo.

They also end up going to, as Bronte calls it, a dirtbag literary salon, where her ex approaches them. He pulls up an old writing piece of hers and reads it since Joe watched someone else share their work, and that’s the rule. When Bronte interrupts him on stage to call out his behavior, he drops a big bomb: her real name is actually Louise Flannery.

With her name and real occupation, Joe begins to search online and find all the information he can on who she really is. When he goes upstairs to see her, she’s in tears over what happened, and the two end up discussing being ashamed and wanting to start over. This conversation does introduce some new information: Bronte was a caretaker for her mother, who died a few years ago. It also manages to give him an opening to ask about his suspicions regarding her reading Beck’s book.

She admits that she saw herself in Beck’s work when she was younger, and she did come here because Beck worked here. Bronte then asks Joe to tell her about her, which he does, and even comments that they dated briefly. He concludes by saying it was a tragedy and that he wishes he had killed Dr. Nicky so that Beck would still be here.

They then move into dangerous territory when Bronte asks if he’s devoured the way he wants to be at home. He confesses that he’s not before saying he should go. As he walks away, she reminds him that she’s not the “poor girl” to his “rich guy,” and she cannot handle an affair. The problem is that she has now made Joe realize what’s missing in his marriage.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

However, Kate is worried, asking Joe to burn his “murder fiction,” scared it could be used against them. While Joe tells her he agrees, he does no such thing.

When Bronte arrives at the bookstore, the two fall into a natural back-and-forth, but of course, Joe chalks it up to flirting, proving just how much he’s back to his old self. One downside to having someone else working at Mooney’s is the questions, like what exactly is in the basement? Joe quickly comes up with an answer, but ends it by telling Bronte to stay out.

Joe and Kate then get called down to the school, where they find out that Henry (Frankie DeMaio) broke Reagan’s (Anna Camp) daughter’s nose. Reagan also made sure the police were called. This leads the school to question if Henry is violent, which Joe is immediately defensive of. While the incident is investigated, he will be suspended, and if Reagan decides to press charges, he will be expelled.

While Joe is gone, Bronte picks the lock of the basement door, but just as it opens, Joe and Henry return. She quickly shuts the doors and goes to meet Henry. Henry tells Joe he knows that punching Gretchen was wrong, but shares that his cousin said his mother, Love, was a killer, having heard Reagan talking about it.

Later on, Bronte enters the basement and discovers the cage, even going inside to look around and take pictures. That backfires as the door shuts and automatically locks, leaving her trapped inside with no phone service.

After dinner, Joe sees the alerts on his phone and goes to let Bronte out, but first, he wants her to explain herself. She says she was taking pictures of the rare books to send to a buyer, thinking she could sell one. She apologizes, and while viewers might be nervous about what Joe is going to do next, he unlocks the door before simply firing her and telling her never to come back.

Before she leaves, Bronte tells him that she read his writing, the pages Kate told him to burn. Bronte says it’s decent but points out that his protagonist has no backstory, flaws or wounds. So, what is he hiding from? The question makes Joe go off about his childhood and where he ended up, making Bronte apologize once again before commenting that it was nice to meet the real Joe.

Joe does eventually call Bronte back to apologize and hire her back, but that’s not all. He also gives her the upstairs apartment. She then reveals that she read Sherry and Cary Conrad’s book, Caging, which included how Love put them in the cage. Joe has a story ready, which Bronte believes.

You can’t negotiate with a terrorist

Anna Camp, Pete Ploszek and Anna Camp in You (Image credit: Courtesy of Netflix)

In order to convince Reagan not to press charges, Kate has invited her half-sister and Harrison (Pete Ploszek) over for dinner. As expected, it does not go well. Reagan took it upon herself to invite Maddie (Camp), wanting her twin there for “moral support.” Teddy (Griffin Matthews) also joins, making it a family affair. Despite Kate wanting to repair things between the siblings, Reagan wants to get straight to the point.

She doesn’t want Henry returning to school, instead, she insists he should go somewhere more capable of dealing with his needs. Additionally, she wants an apology from Kate and Joe for being complete failures as parents. Kate apologizes, taking accountability, and Reagan deems it an “okay” apology before turning to Joe for his. He apologizes as well, but she says that she doesn’t believe him, which leads Joe to bring up what Gretchen heard.

It turns out that Reagan wasn’t calling Love a murderer; she was talking about Kate. Reagan accuses her of having Uncle Bob killed, comparing her to their father. Teddy lies to protect her, saying he saw the security footage of his death, even though that’s not true. Reagan demands that Kate step down as CEO, adding that she will be digging into everything that her half-sister has ever done and won’t stop until she finds out what their uncle had on her. Reagan assures Kate that she is coming for everything: her job, her son and her family. Henry overhears and comes into the room, throwing a knife at his aunt before Joe throws them out.

Kate is convinced they’re being punished for killing Bob. Joe’s solution is to get rid of Reagan, too. Kate doesn’t entertain the idea even for a second, telling him they will find another way, saying that is not who they are.

The problem is that it is exactly who Joe is, and he won’t stop until their family is safe. Kate doesn’t acknowledge the elephant in the room further, saying they’ll go through lawyers and do everything above board. They will request mediation for the school and get Henry into therapy, which triggers Joe.

In their next conversation, Kate tells Joe that they will never do anything like that (killing Bob) ever again, calling it a moment of weakness. This proves how different their view of the murder is and shows she's beginning to question Joe.

Joe makes a grave mistake

Bronte’s words make Joe realize that some part of him is still afraid his family won’t love the darkest parts of him. So, under the reasoning of being a better husband and father, he sets his plan into motion regarding Reagan without Kate knowing.

When he goes to abduct her, she and Harrison are roleplaying in the office. When Harrison goes to the bathroom, Joe knocks her out and brings her to the cage, only to later discover that it’s the wrong twin because Maddie and Harrison were having an affair.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

So what lies in store for Joe this season?

Here's what happened in You season 5 episode 1, "The Luckiest Guy in NY."

Kate was able to get Henry (Frankie DeMaio) back into her and Joe’s custody after he left him with his neighbors in Madre Linda at the end of You season 3. Elsewhere, Kate is using her position as CEO of T.R. Lockwood Corporation to do good and make up for past sins. That position also makes them everyone’s favorite couple, with Joe becoming famous by her side, even being referred to as a “Prince Charming.”

However, it’s clear that despite how perfect Joe’s life is, he’s struggling not to go back to his old ways. He’s missing the person he used to be deep down, and no amount of talking himself off the ledge will change that.

The rest of the Lockwood family includes twins, Reagan and Maddie (Anna Camp), Uncle Bob (Michael Dempsey) and brother Teddy (Griffin Matthews). Teddy reveals to Joe that Forbes is brewing up a hit piece about Kate and the pipeline. The next morning, the two of them agree to handle it together without Kate, legal or PR.

Their first suspect is Reagan, but after speaking with her, Joe doesn’t think she is the source. Next, he goes through Maddie’s phone before sharing his discoveries with Kate. Turns out Bob leaked the story and is trying to get rid of her, planning to call a no-confidence vote, and her sisters are on board with the whole thing.

Joe also finds out that after Mr. Mooney passed, Kate bought the building for Joe. He never actually opened it and eventually agreed to put it back up for sale, realizing he had to move on as he did not want to be haunted by past ghosts anymore.

Killing on the page, rather than in real life

We see Joe murder Bob, only to have the rug pulled out from under us when we realize that it wasn’t real. Instead, he is writing out the murder in the apartment above Mooney’s. Kate, using her phone to track him, walks in on him as he writes. The two have a conversation about how killing makes him feel, and it’s clear her perspective of him has changed. When she leaves, he heads down to the bookstore, hearing a noise as he’s putting his writings away.

The noise came from a mysterious intruder (Madeline Brewer), who explains to Joe she has simply been borrowing books, but always brings them back. We quickly see Joe beginning to obsess over her the way he used to describe past love interests, but stops himself and insists it’s not about her, just the place. She recognizes him, but he ends up letting her go, even allowing her to take the book she had been trying to borrow when he caught her.

The next day, Kate confronts Bob. He admits to leaking the secret, saying she has lost the plot. When she tries to argue that she’ll survive the scandal, he threatens her with Rhys Montrose. With nowhere left to turn and desperate to protect her family, she gives Joe permission to take care of the issue.

The old Joe is back

Penn Badgley in You (Image credit: CLIFTON PRESCOD/NETFLIX)

When Joe breaks in, Bob’s asleep. After some preparation, Joe turns on music to wake him up. Bob’s handcuffed to the chair and registers what is happening, but Joe does not give him much time to speak before choking him with a rope, killing him without hesitation. Naturally, he’s not done yet. He has to make sure there are no loose ends, so he emails a confession from Bob that “he was a man with demons, who made up a lie about Kate, regretted it and retracted it, before hanging himself.” This makes Joe realize that the “beast” wasn’t sated by just writing, because it’s not about the murder, it’s about the feeling of purpose.

Before leaving, Joe sees a light on in the bookstore, only to see that the earlier intruder, who calls herself Bronte, was going to sleep there. Joe stops her from leaving, asking what she thinks of the book? They get into a discussion that makes him realize he can’t let Mooney’s go. He offers her a job, which she takes immediately.

Upon arriving home, Joe promises Kate that they’re okay, to which Kate responds, “I know,” before adding that she loves him. It’s the exact acceptance Joe craves and what he now views as permission to go back to who he used to be.

The episode ends with him making his way down to the basement, commenting how he can be both the old and new version of himself, as we see the cage lit up once again.

All episodes of You season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.

Winter is sticking around for six more weeks in the US, at least according to Puxsutawney Phil, the symbol of Groundhog Day. The furry little weatherman saw his shadow on February 2, which means he is predicting six more weeks of winter.

Sure, it's a ridiculous holiday where we rely on whether or not a groundhog gets spooked by its shadow to tell us how long winter is going to last, but it gave us the classic Bill Murray Groundhog Day, so we can't rag on it too much. Also, with the forecast of six more weeks of winter, it gives all of us a perfect excuse to stay bundled up in our homes and watch more TV.

With that idea in mind, here are six TV shows that you should take the time to watch while you try and power through the remaining six weeks of winter.

1923

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in 1923 (Image credit: Emerson Miller/Paramount+)

Yellowstone season 5 is on hiatus until the summer, but we have another group of Duttons to watch right now as the prequel series 1923 streams on Paramount Plus.
We don’t know what will happen with Joe, Love and their newborn baby Henry in the third season of Netflix’s You just yet, as the season premieres on the streaming service Friday, Oct. 15, but we do know that there will be more You on the way no matter what. Netflix has already given a season 4 renewal to the popular crime drama, according to a report from The Wrap.

You follows Joe, a charming but obsessive man who imposes himself in the lives of women, then usually kills them. In season two (SPOILERS), Joe apparently finds his match in Love following a move to Los Angeles. When Love is ultimately confronted by Joe’s past, she reveals her own dark nature and that she is pregnant with Joe’s child. However, things aren’t happily ever after for the young couple (despite what the title for season 3’s first episode is). As they try to have a normal life, old habits and wary feelings between Joe and Love make things complicated, as does a new obsession for Joe. Watch the season 3 trailer below.

Penn Badgley stars as Joe in You, with Victoria Pedretti co-starring as Love. Joining the starring duo for season 3 is Saffron Burrows, Dylan Arnold, Tati Gabrielle, Michaela McManus, Shannon Chan-Kent, Ben Mehl, Christopher O’Shea, Christopher Sean, Bryan Safi, Mackenzie Astin, Mauricio Lara, Ayelet Zurer and Jack Fisher. However, no casting information for season 4 was shared in the announcement, so don’t assume anyone will make it out of season 3 alive (OK, maybe Penn Badgley’s Joe).

“Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg [Berlanti] and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life,” Sera Gamble said in a statement. “We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past three seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season 4.”

While we have no concrete information about You season 4, Netflix did release a video announcing it, showing some highlights from You so far and having Badgley creepily repeating "for you," which then becomes "You 4" at the end of the video.

The entire first two seasons of You are available to watch right now on Netflix, with the entire third season debuting on the streaming service Friday, Oct. 15.

Netflix’s You has its due date, as the streaming service has announced an Oct. 15 release for season three of the thriller series. Of course a big part of the upcoming third season is going to be the arrival of Joe and Love’s child, whose name we learn in the release date promo.

However, things are far from perfect in the relationship, as Joe appears wary of the true Love.

Penn Badgley stars as Joe in the series, with Victoria Pedretti returning as Love. Other confirmed cast members for season three include Saffron Burrows, Dylan Arnold, Tati Gabrielle, Michaela McManus, Shannon Chan-Kent, Ben Mehl, Christopher O’Shea, Christopher Sean, Bryan Safi, Mackenzie Astin, Mauricio Lara, Ayelet Zurer and Jack Fisher.

The announcement trailer from Netflix offers no footage from season three, but does feature a Penn Badgley voiceover as he gives a monologue about the baby. In it, he reveals that the baby is a boy, that he hopes to be a dad the baby can be proud of and that the baby will be named Henry. Perhaps baby Henry will lead to a changed Joe? Then again, the icing for the cake welcoming baby Henry does appear to be blood, so maybe not.
