Ever since The Young and the Restless’ Claire (Hayley Erin) went through her rehabilitating transformation in the wake of her breaking free from Jordan’s (Colleen Zenk) control, we think she’s been treated as if she is one of the most naive people in Genoa City.

Victor (Eric Braeden) treats his granddaughter as if she’s too innocent to be involved with Kyle (Michael Mealor) or entangled in the crosshairs of the Abbott/Newman feud. Kyle acts as if his girlfriend is unable to comprehend just how ruthless Victor can be. Then you have Audra (Zuleyka Silver), who behaves as if she can dance circles around Claire’s intellect, manipulating the “newest” Newman whenever she wants. All in all, we believe Claire is being grossly underestimated, which is why we think she’ll soon shock people when she makes it apparent that she’s not to be toyed with.

Back when Jordan was giving her final goodbye to her great-niece, the deranged villain warned Claire that while she may be Victoria's (Amelia Heinle) daughter, it was Jordan who raised her. Jordan warned that she'll always be a part of Claire, and that could become evident very soon.

In The Young and the Restless episode airing on August 11, Claire shares with Victoria some of her concerns about her relationship with Kyle. In particular, Claire tells her mom about Victor’s failed plot to break up #Kylaire and about Audra’s suggestion that something romantic occurred between her and Kyle in France. Victoria comforts her daughter and urges her to trust Kyle, noting Audra was likely playing mind games.

Well, fast forward in the episode, and Claire gets an eyeful when she sees Audra plant a kiss on Kyle to get a rise out of him. This certainly won’t help with Claire’s insecurities that Kyle is hiding something from her (which he is in terms of his kiss with Audra in France). Furthermore, the smooch may push Claire too far.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that in addition to dealing with Audra’s threats to her relationship, Claire is currently dealing with the grief of losing her father and the anger of being hurt by Victor. All these emotions may prove too much for her. Heck, in the same episode, Victoria even expressed this sentiment to Jack (Peter Bergman).

Having said all of that, we can imagine a scenario in which Claire takes a page out of Jordan’s book and plots revenge. We’ve previously suspected that Claire would go after both Kyle and Audra, but perhaps Claire reserves her hard feelings exclusively for Ms. Charles. If we’re right, Claire may take aim at Audra’s relationship with Nate (Sean Dominic).

In the wake of Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) death, we’ve noticed how friendly Victoria and Nate have become, especially when he needed support himself in the wake of Damian’s (Jermaine Rivers) death. We wouldn’t be surprised if Claire made note of this and opted to destroy Audra’s relationship by pushing her mother into Nate’s romantic orbit. Playing matchmaker for her grieving mother to take down an enemy may sound a little callous at first. However, given Nate and Victoria have a romantic history and he’s always treated Victoria with the utmost respect, Claire could see the relationship as a win-win.

Taking things further, if destroying Audra’s relationship isn’t enough, we can see Claire pumping Holden (Nathan Owens) for more information on his dealings with Audra in California to weaponize the information and wreak even more havoc on Audra’s life. Oh, and we’d love it if Claire even went as far as to seek out Tucker (last played by Trevor St. John) to partner with him to get some Audra revenge. After all, he’s likely still holding a grudge against his ex for what happened with Glissade.

All in all, Audra may want to watch her back. Something tells us she is playing with fire, antagonizing Claire.

The 2025 Daytime Emmy Award nominations have been announced, and the What to Watch team has been counting down to the big ceremony on October 17.

As I personally wait to see who will walk away with some gold hardware when the time comes, I’ve gone through several of the Emmy categories to offer my take on who should win. Previously, I made my arguments for why The Young and the Restless’ Eileen Davidson and Courtney Hope should respectively win for Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actress. Now it’s time to tackle the Outstanding Supporting Actor category.

This year’s nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor are no surprise, as they all delivered an amazing body of work in 2024. Take The Young and the Restless’ Michael Graziadei, for example. Graziadei did a bang-up job portraying a grieving Daniel Romalotti, who was wrestling with difficult emotions after losing the love of his life in Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom). Not only that, the Daniel character had to fight for his freedom after being framed for Heather's murder, and be a supportive father to a daughter who lost her mother.

Days of Our Lives’ Blake Berris was also a standout portraying Everett/Bobby. The dissociative identity disorder storyline usually pushes an actor to dive deep into their reservoir of talent to effectively play different people in the same soap, and Berris didn’t disappoint.

The rest of the supporting actor category this year is rounded out by General Hospital actors, all of whom are no longer present on the canvas of the show yet are incredibly deserving of a win.

First, there’s longtime General Hospital star Jonathan Jackson. Many fans welcomed Jackson’s return to the soap as Lucky Spencer, and he was tied into a few life-or-death scenarios. He popped back on the canvas trying to escape a deadly hostage situation with Sidwell (Carlo Rota), was devastated he couldn’t be the one to save his sister’s life and he became the first person to learn that Kristina (Kate Mansi) tried to kill the love of his life Elizabeth (Rebecca Hearst), who it was also nice to see him reconnect with after all these years.

Gregory Harrison was also exceptional as Gregory Chase in General Hospital. Although his time on the show was brief, I can’t deny how impactful it was watching Harrison’s Gregory Chase struggle with ALS, while making a profound impact on the lives of his family members and friends. His last moments as Gregory Chase, in particular, were tearjerkers.

And as many heartstrings as Harrison pulled on among viewers, I think it will be Tajh Bellow who walks away with the Daytime Emmy this year for his portrayal of TJ Ashford.

Though the powers that be inexplicably phased out the character in the current landscape, the scenes Bellow delivered in 2024 were some of the best of the year as a grieving parent. Not only did he have to show the sadness that comes with losing a child, but he also was forced to show the anger and frustration that comes with learning that had the child survived, his pseudo sister-in-law/surrogate had every intention of keeping the baby.

Adding to Bellow’s remarkable year was the subsequent storyline of having to pick up the pieces of his shattered dream without his partner, Molly (Kristen Vaganos). Bellow gave viewers two versions of heartbreak simultaneously, as Molly essentially was incapable of helping TJ mourn their daughter or being a common-law wife to him.

On a final note, while I would again surmise that Bellow has this locked in the bag, I won’t rule out the small chance that Harrison comes up victorious.

Believe it or not, it’s been about three years since The Young and the Restless’ Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) had a real romance, with her last relationship being with Jack (Peter Bergman), who ultimately chose to be with Diane (Susan Walters). In this time, she’s had flirty moments with exes Danny (Michael Damian) and Nick (Joshua Morrow), but those moments amounted to nothing. So it just seems to us as if Phyllis is due a little love in her life. After all, we’re talking about the soaps here.

Following along these lines, we took it upon ourselves to look at the current landscape of the show to see if there is some possibility among good men of Genoa City, and we came up with three names. First up is returning resident, Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).

So yes, Cane so far has made it abundantly clear that he wants to reunite with Lily (Christel Khalil). However, presently, Lily wants nothing to do with her ex-husband. Heck, she doesn’t even want him in town.

On the other hand, Cane has been working rather closely with Phyllis as he gets the pieces in place to launch his plan for a Genoa City takeover, and she’s managed to ingratiate herself in his life. It’s not hard to picture the more time the two spend together, the more he starts to look at Phyllis with googly eyes. In return, she may start to see Cane as more than just her boss and ticket to revive her career.

Second up in our matchmaking wishlist is Billy (Jason Thompson). Although we prefer her with the older Abbott brother, Jack, Phyllis and Billy have history, and they’re likely to continue being drawn to each other as they both work with Cane. Currently, Phyllis may be working to sabotage Billy’s chances to team up with Cane because she’s fed up with the number of times Billy betrayed her. But in daytime, someone can loathe a person one second and make out with them the next.

Oh, and for all those wondering about Sally (Courtney Hope). When #Silly became an official couple, we suspected there was an expiration date for the romance in the very near future. We guessed that either Sally would grow tired of Billy’s obsession over Chancellor and his vendettas with Victor (Eric Braeden) and Adam (Mark Grossman), or Billy would eventually gravitate toward Victoria (Amelia Heinle) (the latter can happen especially now with Cole [J. Eddie Peck] out of the picture). All in all, we don’t see longevity for Sally and Billy.

Our last guess for Phyllis’ future romantic partner happens to be the one and only Bill Spencer (Don Diamont). Bill is not currently in Genoa City or even on The Young and the Restless for that matter. He’s in LA and on the sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful.

However, we said it before and we’ll say it again, Phyllis and Bill could actually prove to be quite the ideal soap couple. She could add some much-needed spice and romance to his life, and he could provide Phyllis with the right level of playboy antics and assertiveness she’s not had in a while. Plus, can you imagine the hint of jealousy all of Phyllis’s exes may get knowing she is with Bill? Heck, Bill’s ex Katie (Heather Tom) clashing with Phyllis could provide some must-watch shady moments and drama for an episode or two.

Now, for a Phyllis and Bill relationship to work, one of them would have to hop soaps for a while. This has been done before, as longtime viewers can recall Ashley (Eileen Davidson) spending time on The Bold and the Beautiful. With Phyllis working with Cane at the moment, perhaps it’s time to ship Bill to Genoa City.

We completely understand that after The Young and the Restless’ Nick (Joshua Morrow) suffered his nearly lethal injury at Cane’s (Billy Flynn) horror estate in France, the Newman heir wanted to spend some time recuperating. However, given he was well enough to attend Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) memorial service in support of his sister and niece, we think he ought to regain his focus on this Cane threat. Not only him, but Sharon (Sharon Case) as well.

Now, why are we singling them out? Well, we’ve been thinking about the time the exes spent together being held hostage in that storage room on Cane’s estate.

Specifically, in The Young and the Restless episode that aired on July 23, Nick and Sharon found an old trunk, and looking through it, saw old family photos of the De Leon family from the 1920s. Nick and Sharon assumed the family owned Cane’s property before him, and the De Leon family was the same family who owned Chante de Leon winery, a company that stopped producing wine years ago.

Furthermore, Nick and Sharon surmised that Cane went through the trouble of destroying the vineyard on the estate to construct his now-infamous maze. They couldn’t figure out why Cane would go through the trouble of destroying the vineyard or buying the property.

These tidbits of information have largely been forgotten. Shortly after Nick and Sharon made the discovery, he was badly injured, Chance (Conner Floyd) was murdered and everyone was concerned about getting back to Genoa City.

Having said all of that, we truly believe it may be imperative for Nick and Sharon to recall what they learned in France and start doing some digging around these facts. Their discovery and subsequent digging could be key in learning more about Cane’s mysterious six years spent away from Genoa City, which in turn could help stop him in his ambitious takeover plans.

We previously suspected that Nick and Sharon’s findings could lead to the revelation that Cane lied about how he became a billionaire. That there was a chance he married an heir from the De Leon family and managed to con the family out of their money. It’s not too far of a stretch to believe that logic, especially considering Cane and his father have a history of being con artists.

But who knows, maybe the De Leon angle leads to an even bigger revelation. We would find it odd that writers went through the trouble of having Nick and Sharon go through the trunk and not later have that information become vital to figuring out Cane.

Either way, given all the mystery surrounding Cane and his ambitions, and his apparently bottomless pockets, it’s looking like he presents an all-hands-on-deck situation. So Nick and Sharon better start pulling their weight.

It’s still fresh in our minds the moment The Young and the Restless’ Lily (Christel Khalil) learned Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), her father’s longtime friends, were lying to her about their takeover plans for Chancellor. While she initially thought partnering with them to take the company from Billy (Jason Thompson) would eventually land her in the CEO chair at the corporation, she felt incredibly betrayed to learn that would not be the case should Victor get Chancellor from Jill (Jess Walton), which he did.

Fast forward to the present, and there’s still lingering tension between Lily and the Newman patriarch and matriarch. However, Lily’s anger with the duo may be placed on the back burner because of the not-so-triumphant return of Cane (Billy Flynn).

Lily is furious with her ex for not only lying about being Aristotle Dumas, but also for his unintentional role in the deaths of Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and Chance (Connor Floyd). Plus, she seems to view him again as a con artist.

Sensing her strong feelings of resentment toward Cane, in The Young and the Restless episode airing on August 7, Victor approaches her to make a deal. He proposes that she essentially pretend to start developing feelings for Cane again, given Cane has made it abundantly clear that he wants her back. Victor believes that if Lily can convince her ex she is falling for him, he’ll open up about his plans for Genoa City, then Lily, Victor and others can use the information to get Cane to leave town for good.

Understandably, Lily has her reservations about working with Victor again. However, by the end of the episode, it starts to seem as if Lily is gearing up to strike a deal with The Mustache.

Having said all of that, we have a hunch that an alliance between Victor and Lily may again end in betrayal, but this time, she’d be the one to double-cross him. We can imagine a scenario in which Cane quickly deduces that Lily is still too furious to allow herself to fall for him and is attempting to gain intel on him to stab him in the back. But in a shocking move, instead of lashing out at her, he offers her a bargain she can’t refuse.

Before Cane was revealed to be Aristotle Dumas, we suspected it was him and mentioned the theory that he was after Chancellor in an effort to gift the company to Lily in a big romantic gesture. Well, what if he promises to make Lily the sole CEO of Chancellor if she actually works with him to betray Victor and steal Chancellor from him?

Lily would likely be gobsmacked by such a proposal, but she may actually agree to it. Let’s not forget, Lily still believes Chancellor became like her third child, having taken the company to new heights for Jill. She’s felt more of a connection to it than she has to her own family business, Winters. Plus, we imagine she wouldn’t mind getting even with Victor.

So does Lily have what it takes to try and one-up Victor? We aren’t sure, but if she goes down this path, she'd better be careful. Making herself an enemy of Victor is dangerous. Additionally, if she becomes the sole CEO of Chancellor, Billy and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) probably would be jealous and furious, thinking they were going to get the top spot.

Now that all the major players from The Young and the Restless are back in town, everyone is processing the aftermath of all that happened during Cane’s (Billy Flynn) disastrous French event.

Billy (Jason Thompson) is trying to determine if Chancellor is worth getting into business with Cane and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). He's also fuming with Jill (Jess Walton) for lying about Cane this whole time (keep in mind he doesn’t seem that upset that his nephew is dead).

Elsewhere, Victor (Eric Braeden) is going on a tear. He’s taking Adam (Mark Grossman) to task for not using Newman Media to go after Billy, he’s determined to get revenge on Cane and he’s not letting up on his disdain for Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Claire (Hayley Erin).

Speaking of Victor, Kyle and Claire, during the week of August 4, after Victor attempted to publicly embarrass Kyle at Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) funeral, Claire finally put her foot down with her grandfather and took him to task for his interference in her love life. Furthermore, she’s now more determined than ever to move in with her boyfriend, disregarding Victor’s feelings.

However, before this big move happens, in The Young and the Restless episode airing on August 6, Kyle tells Claire about Victor giving Audra (Zuleyka Silver) Vibrante in exchange for Audra sabotaging the #Kylaire romance. That information moves Claire to press for details on how Audra expected to ruin their relationship with some mere flirting? Claire knows she wouldn’t break up with Kyle just because Audra flirted with him.

Things get interesting when Claire asks Kyle if anything happened between him and Audra in France that she needs to know about. Instead of telling the truth about him kissing Audra to trap her, Kyle claims absolutely nothing occurred. Because this is the soap world, we can only assume that this lie will come back to bite Kyle, especially since we believe there’s a good chance the close encounter was recorded.

Whether Claire learns the truth via video footage or by some other means, we suspect the truth may awaken her dark side. It’s worth pointing out that when Kyle told Claire his version of events, Claire responded with, "Let her [Audra] come for us. I will enjoy making sure she backs the hell off. She has no idea who she’s up against." These words sound like she’s ready to play dirty if necessary.

Additionally, we can’t forget the haunting sentiment Jordan (Colleen Zenk) made before she died. Jordan essentially told Claire that while Victoria (Amelia Heinle) may be her mother, it was Jordan who raised her, and there’s a part of the villain lying inside of Claire. We’ve been waiting for the not-so-sweet side of Claire to re-emerge, and Kyle and Audra’s betrayal may cause that to happen.

If we’re right, we fear what may be next for Kyle and Audra. Claire’s past plotting with Jordan has shown she can be manipulative and cunning. Should Claire now take the villainous part of her great-aunt and mix it with her grandfather’s masterful ability to think ten steps ahead, Claire could become the most dangerous person in Genoa City.

Although The Young and the Restless’ French excursion finally revealed Cane (Billy Flynn) to be the mysterious billionaire Aristotle Dumas, there are still plenty of mysteries surrounding what Cane has been up to for the past six years and what his plans are for Genoa City in his not-so-welcomed return.

For example, did he really become a billionaire through honest bitcoin investments? Or did Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) find clues to prove Cane ran another con to become rich?

Also, now that he is wealthy, what is really fueling Cane’s obsession with Chancellor? He was willing to give Victor (Eric Braeden) his entire portfolio of companies in exchange for Chancellor. That price seems to be a bit too high if you ask us, so what does Cane know about the conglomerate that nearly all of Genoa City doesn’t?

Fast forward to The Young and the Restless episode airing on August 5, and we’re left wondering if Cane has a partner in Jill (Jess Walton) in all this scheming. In the episode, through a back-and-forth with Cane, Billy (Jason Thompson) learns that Jill had been in communication with Cane and actually spent some time with him and Colin (Tristan Rogers) at Cane’s French estate. The new information leaves Billy stunned and furious with Jill and Cane, feeling as if he’s been lied to.

Putting two and two together, Billy video calls his mother to ask her directly why she’s been lying about being in contact with Cane and if she knew he was Aristotle. Her silence in answering tells him everything he thinks he needs to know before the episode concludes.

All of this got us to thinking. Although Cane assured Billy that Jill has no clue about his takeover plans for Genoa City, we have a hunch he could be lying. Historically speaking, Cane isn’t exactly synonymous with the truth. So is it possible that Jill not only knows about Cane’s plans but is partnering with him? We think so.

Months ago, we broached the theory that Cane would use Jill in his quest to regain control of Chancellor. While we aren’t attorneys by trade, we suspected that there was a chance Cane could get a legal team to argue that Jill’s sale of Chancellor to Victor wasn’t legally ethical, as she was medically compromised with her heart condition. If this is an angle worth playing for Cane, then he would need Jill’s help to pull this off.

Furthermore, if Cane’s plan is to take the fight to Victor in court, then The Mustache may be forced to do something he seldom does — apologize.

For Victor to ensure he proves victorious in this hypothetical court battle, it would behoove him to enlist his former friend and mentee, Michael (Christian LeBlanc). It was Michael who helped him acquire Chancellor, and Michael is an attorney whom Victor knows is usually willing to get his hands dirty to help Victor get what he wants.

Sadly, Victor is unreasonably upset with Michael after the lawyer quit, not wanting to help Victor continue going after Jack (Peter Bergman) and the Abbotts. The Newman patriarch has essentially shunned Michael since then. But Victor may want to come to the realization that he was wrong in pushing Michael to attack his friends and humble himself to get his friend back as his employee.

Because Victor is one of the most stubborn people in all of daytime, we understand him humbling himself may be a stretch. However, the people in Genoa City have been known to surprise us before.

As the saying goes, “Every dog has its day,” and The Young and the Restless’ Kyle (Michael Mealor) appears to be having a few back to back.

After busting Audra (Zuleyka Silver) in her seduction attempts to destroy his relationship with Claire (Hayley Erin), The Young and the Restless August 4 episode sees Kyle also with a front-row seat to Claire taking Victor (Eric Braeden) to task for his constant interference with the #Kylaire relationship. Although Claire’s harsh words for her grandfather come at the inopportune and somber time of Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) funeral, Kyle couldn’t help but flash a quick smirk seeing his girlfriend stand up for him.

Sadly for Kyle, we think his victories may wind up being short-lived as everything involving Audra comes to light. Although it’s been indicated that Kyle will confess to Claire that he kissed Audra as part of a scheme to bust her for her attempts to ruin their relationship, we can see that kiss becoming the kiss of death to his love life with Claire. While it appears Claire may hear the truth and still remain committed to Kyle, things may change once Claire can see for herself the steamy exchange between Kyle and Audra.

Back when the steamy peck happened, we developed a theory that the action was caught on video. Cane (Billy Flynn) had hidden cameras all around his French estate, and we couldn’t help but think a camera spotted the liplock, and the footage would be used later in a soapy blackmail plot. Fast forward to the present, and we have a hunch that’s bound to happen rather quickly with Cane being the blackmailer and Kyle his victim.

We can imagine Cane going to Kyle with the video and threatening to expose it to Claire if Kyle doesn’t do his bidding. With Cane determined to one-up Victor and get his hands on Chancellor and possibly a piece of Newman Enterprises, Cane might want Kyle to behave as a spy on Claire to get inside information on the Newmans. Cane already put Holden (Nathan Owens) up to this task more or less, but Cane may want some reassurance that he gets the vital information that he needs.

Now Kyle could always claim he won’t do what Cane is asking and reassure Cane that he already told Claire the truth, but Cane may prove rather convincing with the video.

Kyle might leave some steamy details out of his confession to Claire, like him being in only a towel when he kissed Audra. Kyle may also forget to mention to Claire that he and Audra had a few other “flirtatious” moments in France (i.e., him leaning in close to smell her perfume, which on camera may look completely different). If Cane threatens to show Claire the footage, Kyle may wind up agreeing to help Cane out to oddly enough save his relationship.

The irony in all of this is that if we’re right, Kyle would wind up lying to his partner, a huge reason why he literally ended his marriage with Summer (Allison Lanier). Additionally, it would be rather interesting that, should the truth wind up coming out anyway (as it usually does in soaps), and Claire dumps Kyle, Audra probably won’t receive her due credit from Victor for the demise of #Kylaire.

I think most of us can agree that The Young and the Restless’ Cane (Billy Flynn) threw a horrible event at his French estate. Not only did he effectively keep his guests hostage and cut them off from the outside world, but because of his shenanigans, Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and Chance (Conner Floyd) are dead. Additionally, Nick (Joshua Newman) was injured trying to escape his false imprisonment, and Billy (Jason Thompson) has become full-on obsessed with Chancellor again.

Then there’s the pain he unknowingly inflicted on those who didn’t attend the French festivities. Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Claire (Hayley Erin) were left to deal with Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) rapid decline and eventual death without the support of most of their family, who had no way of knowing Cole’s condition was so awful, thanks to Cane.

With all that being said, there is one silver lining I can spot. While most of the Newmans were away in Europe, Victoria and Claire found support in Adam (Mark Grossman) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) of all people.

If you’re a longtime fan of The Young and the Restless, then you know Adam and Victoria are often like oil and water. They have a history of despising each other, despite Victor (Eric Braeden) imploring them to act like brother and sister. And Adam wasn’t the most welcoming to Claire when it was first revealed she was Victoria’s daughter. So, to see the relationship between Adam and Victoria evolve to where it is apparently now was actually amazing to witness.

I have not been so secretly waiting for the day when Adam and Victoria truly let bygones be bygones and started acting like siblings. Heck, Victoria may not go as dark as Adam when it comes to plotting, but they actually have a lot in common and could be friends, which I’m hopeful happens in this new start to their relationship.

It’s hard for me not to imagine them getting even closer as they continue to gear up for war against Cane and whatever nefarious plot he has in mind, which may be bad news for him. Now, this is the soap world, and truces don’t always last long. But I sincerely wish this Newman peace lasts for the foreseeable future. If show writers are reading this, please give it at least until the new year.

On a related note, I have to wonder if Nick will feel threatened by Adam and Victoria being closer. After all, Nick and Victoria have been besties their entire lives (with their occasional times of sibling strife).

In unpopular opinion, we have a soft spot for The Young and the Restless’ Audra (Zuleyka Silver). Yes, she can be manipulative, snarky, self-serving and she has an appetite for power. However, unlike many of her counterparts in Genoa City who share some of the same qualities, she doesn’t come from a powerful family or bear the surname Newman, Abbott or Winters. She literally has had to pull herself up from those metaphorical bootstraps to make it in the business world, sans silver spoon assistance from mom or dad.

With that being said, we wish Audra would stop mixing it up with Victor (Eric Braeden) and his family. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) fired her from Newman Media, The Mustache bounced her from Glissade and now it appears her Vibrante hopes and dreams are on the cusp of going up in smoke, again thanks to Victor. You’d think she’d learn her lesson and stop putting herself in this position.

Sadly, Audra’s reputation hasn’t left her with a ton of options. Diane (Susan Walters) can’t stand her, largely because of her dealings with Kyle (Michael Mealor) and what we think is Diane recognizing too much of herself in Audra. So, Audra going to Jabot is not likely.

Then, when Nate (Sean Dominic) hears of what Audra was willing to do with Kyle to get Victor’s money for Vibrante, he’s not likely to again pressure his family to hire her at Winters. Oh, and Audra dated Sharon’s (Sharon Case) son and broke his heart, so Cassidy First is also not a real feasible option.

That brings us to this question: if Audra and Victor’s partnership crashes and burns, where would she end up? Well, there's always a chance she lands a job with Cane (Billy Flynn). He’s persona non grata at the moment, and with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Billy (Jason Thompson) likely to work for him, Audra would be in good company in the merry band of Genoa City “misfits.”

However, we think the better fit for Audra may oddly wind up being Abbott Communications. Right now, Billy is the CEO, but he promised to give that position to Sally (Courtney Hope) should he go all in on Chancellor, which seems to be becoming the case.

Given Audra and Sally are friends, we can imagine Sally hiring Audra at Abbott Communications as her COO. It’s worth noting, Audra has plenty of experience working at Newman Media, so she’d be a great fit for Abbott Communications.

Should our hunch prove correct about Abbott Communications, we can’t imagine Jack (Peter Bergman), Diane or Kyle being thrilled to see Audra working at a company that bears their name. But from our perspective, we think it would be nice to see Audra and Sally finally run a company where Victor can’t fire them at-will and where they can show what they’re made of in the business world.

No one warned me when I started covering soaps a few years back that I'd become so invested in the stories that missing an episode or two (or three or four) could really throw me off. So now we want to know how you deal with missed episodes of your favorite soap by voting in our poll below, or leave a comment if you don't see a response that matches your strategy.

I'll admit, early on in my soaps coverage days, I wasn't as worried about missing an episode here or there. But unlike network or cable TV shows with a new episode every week, soaps air every day and a missed episode can throw off the whole experience if something big happens while you were away.

It was one thing when I only covered The Bold and the Beautiful. Catching up on the half-hour soap was easy, even if I sat and watched all of the episodes back to back so that I was on track once again. Adding Days of Our Lives to the mix complicated things because trying to catch up on an hour-long show can be challenging if you've missed more than one or two.

Recently I attended San Diego Comic-Con and missed a few episodes of the daytime dramas I cover. My plan had been to watch them upon returning home each night from the pop culture confab. While sitting in the press room working on an article, my esteemed What to Watch colleague sent me a message that something big happened on B&B and I was instantly filled with FOMO. Was I missing a big story? Should I watch right away?

Trying to catch up on one show was hard enough, but catching up on missed episodes, while staying on top of new episodes, was downright challenging.

Since B&B is shorter, I was able to watch those episodes but for Days I turned to a mix of reading recaps, watching clips and scouring social media for the big events everyone was talking about. In some cases I went back and watched key events in the episode.

Now, I realize that in my case it's a bit different. I write about soaps for a living so I need to stay on top of what's happening. If that wasn't the case, I'm not sure I'd feel so much pressure to catch up.

It’s been over a month since The Young and the Restless’ Cane (Billy Flynn) revealed himself to Aristotle Dumas, and I’ve been patiently waiting to lock into this new iteration of the character. To really feel invested in his new ominous portrayal, this mysterious obsession with Chancellor and this need to prove he’s a worthy adversary of Victor (Eric Braeden). Unfortunately, I’m admittedly just not a fan.

Now to be clear, my feelings of disappointment don’t rest on Flynn’s shoulders. He’s a fine actor, so this isn’t directed at his talent.

With that being said, Flynn has his own take on the Cane character that is markedly different from former Cane potrayer, Daniel Goddard. Flynn’s Cane is a little more conniving and dubious in my opinion, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Especially, since there’s still so much to be unpacked surrounding what Cane has been doing offscreen in his six-year absence from Genoa City.

This brings me to the storyline that ushered Cane back into The Young and the Restless fold. For months, viewers watched as the hype around who could be behind Aristotle Dumas was developed. He was built up as a mystery billionaire who could compete with The Great Victor Newman when it came to business. So when Cane was revealed to Aristotle, it was like the math wasn’t “mathing.”

Yes, I predicted Aristotle would be Cane a while ago based on the breadcrumbs left by show writers, but him confirming my suspicions and explaining he got the money to become a billionaire tycoon on the back of bitcoin investments, I just find it hard to believe.

His reveal felt like The Wizard being shown to be a culmination of smoke and mirrors in The Wizard of Oz. Sure, it’s possible the bitcoin story is true, but Cane and his father spent much of their previous time on the show involved in cons, scams and lies. It’s hard to believe they reconciled before Colin (Tristan Rogers) died, and they went legitimate to amass this large fortune.

Additionally, say what you will about Victor being a “villain” in his own right, but the man is the savviest tactician in all of The Young and the Restless business world. Plus, he’s had his share of enemies over the years, and you’d be hard pressed to recall one that’s been able to defeat Victor (sure, he’s lost a few battles, but never the war). And if Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) hasn’t taken down The Mustache, I fail to comprehend how Cane thinks he’ll be able to do the honors just because the size of his bank account has grown. He doesn't feel like a viable contender for the Newman patriarch.

Also, let’s talk about the fact that Cane’s reveal quickly fizzled into a series of murders that feel premature. Damian (Jermaine Rivers) wasn’t even on the show for a year before he was killed because of Cane’s assistant. Damian’s relationships with Nate (Sean Dominic) and Lily (Christel Khalil) were just starting to really cement, so I feel cheated that viewers won’t get to see the possibilities thanks to Cane. Since I was already a bit disenchanted with him because of the Victor angle, this hasn’t helped.

Oh, and then to have Cane murder off one of the very few Chancellors left in Chance (Conner Floyd) feels like a slap in the face of longtime viewers. The Chancellor name once commanded respect, fear and adoration in Genoa City. Now, it feels like another great family is being phased out of the canvas of the show.

Lastly, because I felt disconnected with Cane due to this “rivalry” with Victor and his hand in Damian and Chance’s murders, I’ve found it hard to enjoy this French excursion on The Young and the Restless, and it’s lasted for weeks. So the trip coming to an end is a great thing in my book.

While I’ll just have to give this new Cane a little more runway to land the plane here, I hope it happens soon. Getting the real story of his newfound finances and him being shown why Victor is Victor for a reason are a great place to start.

Admittedly, The Young and the Restless' Billy (Jason Thompson) hasn’t always been my favorite Genoa City resident, but I actually felt bad for him when Victor (Eric Braeden) convinced Jill (Jess Walton) to sell Chancellor, leaving Billy without a job.

It was supposed to be Billy’s fresh start for him out of Jack’s (Peter Bergman) shadows at Jabot, and Victor swept in to take the company for himself, well, for Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). Understandably, Billy was very upset, but he eventually opted to put it all behind him and start Abbott Communications from the ground up.

Sadly, then came along Cane (Billy Flynn) with his Aristotle Dumas mystery and quest to take Chancellor from Victor. Once Cane planted the seed of taking the conglomerate away from The Mustache, Billy took the bait and is hooked. Regaining control of the corporation has been almost his sole focus.

Billy hasn’t even been able to get Abbott Communications off the ground due to his obsession with the idea of running Chancellor. Despite Jack investing his money in Abbott Communications and issuing his warnings to stay focused, Billy seems incapable of letting go. In fact, he’s in a prime position to let go of Abbott Communications to Sally (Courtney Hope), if anything.

What really baffles me about Billy’s continued interest in acquiring Chancellor with Cane at this point is that Cane bears a lot of responsibility for why Billy’s nephew died.

Although Carter (Vincent Stalba) is the one who shot Chance (Conner Floyd), Chance wouldn’t have been in France if Cane hadn’t orchestrated this whole elaborate scheme to lure in the powerful players of Genoa City. Heck, Cane brought Chance to Europe, fearing he was going to be murdered and wanting Chance’s detective skills. Keep in mind, Chance didn’t even have international jurisdiction, and Cane has a security team.

For these reasons, plus how devastated Jill (Jess Walton) is going to be to learn the news that her grandson is dead, I’d think Bill would be upset with Cane, or at the very least, more apprehensive about getting into business with Cane. But Billy is full steam ahead. In the immediate aftermath of Chance’s death, he briefly talked about informing Abby (Melissa Ordway) of what happened before he took to being Cane’s biggest defender with Jack.

Additionally, Billy was quick to connect with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and again pitched them partnering together to work with Cane. I understand everyone goes through their own process to deal with grief, but this all seemed a bit distasteful. Billy and Chance weren’t exactly besties, but at the end of the day, Chance is Billy’s only nephew on his mother's side of the family.

Overall, I’m not a fan of this road Billy is heading down. I just want him to cut ties with Chancellor and prove his doubters wrong by making Abbott Communications a powerhouse in the Genoa City business world.

As The Young and the Restless brings the now-infamous French getaway at Cane’s (Billy Flynn) estate to a close, many residents of Genoa City find themselves in interesting predicaments.

For example, Lily (Christel Khalil) is forced to come to terms with the fact that the guy she was falling for, Damian (Jermaine Rivers), is now gone, arguably in large part due to her ex-husband’s antics.

We also acknowledge that Chance (Conner Floyd) is dead, Nick (Joshua Morrow) nearly died, Kyle (Michael Mealor) busted Audra (Zuleyka Silver) and Billy (Jason Thompson) essentially is opting to throw his new company away in an attempt to partner with Cane and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) to take over Chancellor.

While there were certainly many things that occurred in Europe over these past few weeks, Genoa City was also experiencing some turmoil. Let’s not forget that Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Claire (Hayley Erin) lost Cole (J. Eddie Peck). And while Damian was murdered in France, when Lily calls Nate (Sean Dominic) in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 29, Nate is absolutely gutted by the news.

Speaking of Victoria and Nate, we couldn’t help but notice how they’ve managed to gravitate toward one another while their loved ones have been in France. Outside of a moment with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), Nate has been Victoria’s support system as she dealt with her emotions surrounding Cole’s illness and eventual death. Heck, again in the episode from July 29, before Nate finds out about his brother, he shows up at Victoria’s house to be with her and Claire as they plan to lay Cole to rest (the funeral is ultimately postponed until their loved ones return home).

Conversely, after Lily told Nate via phone that Damian had been killed, he turns to Victoria for comfort. He is in such disbelief that a brother he had only recently discovered existed could be dead before they could really develop a solid bond. Plus, he’s dreading having to deliver the news to Amy (Valarie Pettiford), as Damian was her only child, and they just reconnected.

With all this mutual exchange of support between Victoria and Nate, we can’t help but think they could be headed toward a reunion. Sure, some may argue that they’re just two exes turned platonic friends leaning on each other during a time of grief. However, in the soap world, this is the kind of stuff that lays the groundwork for a romance (unless you’re Jack [Peter Bergman] and Nikki [Melody Thomas Scott]).

Now, if the two are headed toward a #Vate 2.0 relationship, they likely face a major challenge. Given how spectacularly their previous relationship flamed out, many may assume we’re talking about Victor coming between them.

That’s certainly a possibility, as Victoria can never have a romance without her dad interfering. However, we think if Victoria and Nate give it a go again, Victoria will do more to stand up to Victor and fight for her love life, and Nate, in turn, will be appreciative. Perhaps seeing Claire fight for her relationship with Kyle will give her inspiration.

With all that being said, we think Audra could present a problem. Although Audra was willing to cheat on Nate with Kyle to ensure she had a firm grasp on Vibrante, going as far as to make out with him, we suspect she’s hoping to keep her relationship with Nate intact. Nate, on the other hand, may not be so willing to stay in a relationship with Audra, especially in light of him grieving his brother. But even if Nate wants to end things, we can’t say that’s it for Audra.

Because her plans for Kyle failed and Victor won’t be pleased to hear that she hasn’t successfully kept their end of their bargain, he might pull funding for Vibrante. That may leave her a bit desperate. We can imagine a desperate Audra resorting to one of the oldest tricks in soap opera history to keep Nate in her orbit — a pregnancy.

Is it possible that Audra fakes a pregnancy with Nate to keep him around and maybe even get herself a position at Winters in the process? Sure, it is. She would ultimately have to then get pregnant by Nate for real or pretend to be with child for nine months until she can adopt a child or get a surrogate.

Look, we’re fully aware that this hypothetical storyline sounds dramatic and maybe even far-fetched. But again, this is the soap world, so anything can happen.

No matter how you look at it, The Young and the Restless’ Cane (Billy Flynn) has hosted arguably the worst international getaway in the soap’s history.

Because of all his duplicitous planning and shady staff, Damian (Jermaine Rivers) was murdered, Nick (Joshua Morrow) almost bled to death, nearly all his party guests are terrified and now, as of the July 28 episode, Chance (Conner Floyd) is dead. (We have our qualms about another member of the already sparse Chancellor family dying, but that’s a topic for some other day.)

As it turns out, during the episode in question, Carter (Vincent Stalba) confesses to Cane that he indeed murdered Damian, and did so in order for Cane to have a clear path to reconciliation with Lily (Christel Khalil). Carter then pleads with his horrified boss for help fleeing the country, but Cane rejects his request. This prompts Carter to freak out, and Chance, who was eavesdropping nearby, to announce himself and insist on holding Carter until local law enforcement arrives.

Carter doesn’t want to go to prison, so he whips out a gun, and when Lily walks by the scene, he grabs her as a hostage and starts running through the maze. Eventually, the duo bumps into Billy (Jason Thompson), and Chance and Cane catch up to them.

Cooler heads ultimately convince Carter to stop pointing the gun at Lily. He then quickly points the gun at Cane to kill him for the betrayal, but Chance winds up jumping in front of the gun, taking a bullet in the chest. Shortly thereafter, Chance is declared dead.

With more blood on his hands, the target on Cane’s back has only gotten bigger, with a number of people ready to get their revenge. The loved ones of Damian, Nick and Chance are all likely salivating at the mouth for the chance to get payback, but we’ll see if that lust for revenge turns deadly.

Having said all of that, and focusing back on Cane and the impact of his loss, we think fans should be gearing up for a big return to Genoa City to help send off the town's favorite cop. We believe there’s a good chance that both Nina (Tricia Cast) and Jill (Jess Walton) could show up in some capacity.

For Nina, it would be rather heartwrenching to see her in Genoa City, grieving the death of her only child. She was never a fan of him pursuing a dangerous career in law enforcement, and to know he was killed overseas trying to help someone while technically off duty will probably be devastating. Nina may also have more than a few choice words for Cane.

In terms of Jill, she’d probably be crushed to know her grandson, Phillip Chancellor Jr’s only grandson, is no longer living. She may also have a hard time accepting that a man she viewed as a son, Cane, bears some responsibility for this tragedy. Will she be able to forgive Cane, especially when she learns this whole French getaway boiled down to Cane scheming to get Chancellor?

And as captivating as it may be to think about Nina and Jill arriving in Genoa City for a possible Chance funeral, we think there’s a possibility that The Young and the Restless is gearing up for a surprise visit from Chance’s father, Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz).

It’s been a while since Phillip Chancellor III has been in town, so it would be fitting to see him arrive to mourn his son. Our only hope is that should he arrive, he stay awhile and launch a soapy plan of retribution for the loss of his child. Again, we think Cane has a whirlwind headed his way, so why not make the person behind the whirlwind be Phillip?

To be clear, as of publication, we have not heard word if Nina, Jill or Phillip is scheduled to reappear. We just think it would be nice if they did.

With the nominees for the 2025 Daytime Emmy Awards officially announced, the What to Watch team is counting down to the big day on October 17, looking through the soap categories and offering our take on who should walk away victorious.

I previously offered up my reasons why I think Eileen Davidson is a shoo-in for the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Daytime Drama Series category. Her portrayal of The Young and the Restless' Ashley dealing with dissociative identity disorder and subsequently trying to piece her life back together, even as Martin (Christopher Cousins) continued to torment her family, was brilliant. And as I look to the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Daytime Drama Series category, I again have to look to the long-running CBS soap.

Now to be clear, this year’s list of nominees all did great jobs in their respective roles. General Hospital’s Kate Mansi had quite the transformative storyline as Kristina in 2024, first losing the surrogate child she was carrying for her sister Molly (Kristen Vaganos), then going toe-to-toe with Molly as the two women argued in grief, before they both lost their big sister Sam (Kelly Monaco).

Days of Our Lives has two actresses hoping to take home a win for supporting actress in Linsey Godfrey and Emily O’Brien. Godfrey did a heck of a job as Sarah Horton, getting run over by her mother-in-law and attempting to recuperate. O’Brien stepped into the role of Theresa Donovan at the tail end of 2023, but fully embraced the part in 2024, making for quite the joy ride as she added her own unique flavor to the dramatic soap character.

Even with such formidable competition in the category, it’s the women of The Young and the Restless who I think it all boils down to. Both Susan Walters, who portrays Diane Abbott, and Courtney Hope, who plays Sally Spectra, delivered performances that were truly standouts in 2024. And it was Hope, who I believe did just enough to edge out her competition. If we’re right about her winning this category again, it would make her a winner in back-to-back years.

I recall watching the tumultuous breakup between Sally and Adam (Mark Grossman) on The Young and the Restless, and I said then that her work on screen was gold hardware-worthy. Hope perfectly struck a balance between visibly showcasing Sally’s heartbreak and fully demonstrating the character’s rage at being betrayed and lied to. Take a look at her unleashing on Adam below (I’m still applauding).

I also have to commend Hope for how she handled Sally’s mending process. Sally realized that Adam was exactly who people warned her he was, and had to wrestle with the fact that she ended things with Nick (Joshua Morrow) for the younger Newman.

Plus, she was left trying to move on from Adam, falling into the arms of Billy (Jason Thompson). While in the present, we’re well beyond the eligibility period for the 2025 Daytime Emmys, I can’t help but desire seeing more of the fierce Sally in future episodes.

Now I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up my theory that there’s a slight possibility the supporting actress category ends in a tie. Although we think Hope will capture the trophy, she could wind up sharing it with Walters.

Walters had some stellar moments in 2024 as Diane, whether that be unleashing on Jack (Peter Bergman) for purposefully relapsing for Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) benefit, pretending to fallout with with Jack for Kyle’s (Michael Mealor) sake or having the tough conversations with Kyle as he wrestled with his past trauma, Walters’ Diane scenes were must-watch.

So, who do you think will take home this year’s supporting actress Emmy? Will it be Hope or someone else?

It takes a special kind of person to eclipse The Young and the Restless’ Victor (Eric Braeden) as the most infuriating person in Genoa City, but it looks like this new Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) is that person. To be clear, Victor is our favorite character on the soap, but we aren’t ignorant of the fact that he has a particular talent for getting under the skin of almost everyone on the show’s canvas.

Back to Cane. Since his not-so-triumphant return to The Young and the Restless, he’s done nothing but enrage a number of guests at his French home.

Lily (Christel Khalil) is furious with him for lying about being Aristotle Dumas and blames him for Damian’s (Jermaine Rivers) death. Victor was already skeptical about Cane trying to take Chancellor before he became enraged with Cane for holding Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) hostage in a storage room. And we’d venture to guess by the time this disastrous French trip is over, most people won’t be happy to learn that he’s been lying about their ability to leave Europe and return home sooner.

Adding to all this, when Amy (Valarie Pettiford) and Nate (Sean Dominic) learn that their respective son and brother was murdered in France, likely by Cane’s assistant Carter (Vincent Stalba), they’ll probably blame Cane for Damian’s demise. Along those lines, Holden (Nathan Owens) may be furious with his boss for the death of his bestie.

Having said all of that, we can’t help but imagine someone trying to kill Cane in revenge, or at the very least making his life incredibly miserable. We’re talking about Cane being forced to watch everything he’s accomplished in the business arena stripped from him, and maybe even having absolutely no one rallying for his cause, not even his children.

While we have a strong suspicion that either Victor, Nick or a combination of the two is likely going to try to bring Cane to his knees, we think someone else may strive to accomplish beyond that, possibly going as far as murder. If we had to guess who that person is, we think it’s either Amy or Nate.

For Amy, she just reconnected with Damian after being estranged from him for years. Their reconciliation helped push her into trying an experimental treatment to beat her deadly disease, and she was hoping for more time with her only child upon his return to Genoa City. Now that he’s dead, she won’t get to have those moments. If she feels as if she has nothing to lose, she may make it her mission to make Cane pay, maybe with his life.

Nate is an intriguing person to consider as someone who might try to kill Cane. He’s a former doctor and once pledged to do no harm, so to see him want to eliminate an enemy is a bit ironic. Although Nate is usually levelheaded, losing a brother he was just starting to bond with may cause him to snap. Especially when you add the fact that Nate is bound to learn that Audra (Zuleyka Silver) was willing to cheat on him for the sake of satisfying Victor’s scheme.

Selfishly, we kind of want to see Nate go dark and plot against Cane. As a former doctor, he’d likely be able to come up with a few different ways to murder him, but make it look like a natural medical issue.

If not Amy and not Nate, then allow us to propose the idea that the one who plots deadly revenge against Cane is Damian. Yes, Damian is allegedly dead. However, we’ve been holding onto a theory for a while now that Damian is actually alive and would at some point remerge onto the scene. Damian “haunting” Cane to drive him mad before attempting to kill him could prove rather entertaining.

Look, we know the last thing Genoa City needs is another murder mystery. However, Cane may have crossed too many people.

When The Young and the Restless’ Audra (Zuleyka Silver) decided to make a deal with Victor (Eric Braeden) to destroy Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Claire’s (Hayley Erin) relationship, we had a hunch things wouldn’t go entirely to plan.

Sure, we thought there was a good possibility that Audra would be able to seduce Kyle into bed, but not without some major consequences. We felt it was nearly impossible for her to sleep with Kyle and for Nate (Sean Dominic) not to find out and be furious. Her ambitious, and unwise, alliance with Victor just seemed destined to cost her the first relationship she’s had in a while that wasn’t rooted in deceit, corporate espionage or manipulation.

Along these lines, we couldn’t rule out the real chance that in Audra’s efforts to seduce Kyle she’d genuinely start to fall for him again. Before Audra and Kyle left for France, it was Holden (Nathan Owens) who picked up on some chemistry between the two. So her rekindled feelings for Kyle would have complicated her allegiance to Victor, and The Mustache could have noticed and burned her in their arrangement.

Having said all of that, during the week of July 21, Kyle called Audra out for trying to lure him into sleeping with her to satisfy the end of her bargain with Victor. Audra, of course, denied such a thing, and even credited her kissing him as being vulnerable after Damian’s (Jermaine Rivers) murder and being caught up in the moment. But Kyle refuses to believe that she wasn’t trying to trap him.

Then, in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 24, having been chewed out by Victor for not delivering results with their scheme, Audra meets with Kyle and raises the point that he almost cheated on Claire. She further asserts that Kyle will indeed break Claire’s heart.

Responding in kind, Kyle brags about having destroyed Audra, noting how now that her plan has failed, Victor will soon crush her, leaving her with no job and no business. Furthermore, he guesses that when the full truth is revealed about the lengths she was willing to go to in order to satisfy her ambition, she’ll have nothing and likely no one.

That’s when Audra replies with something interesting. She counters that if everything Kyle is saying is true, then that makes her even more dangerous with nothing to lose. This has us thinking Kyle may not want to brag too much for too long.

We can imagine a scenario where Audra tries to pivot her strategy once everyone is back in Genoa City. She may be able to convince Victor she has one more card to play in terms of Kyle, but refuse to tell The Mustache any particulars. Then, Audra decides to split Kyle and Claire up by going after Claire.

Audra may come to realize just how close Claire and Holden are becoming as friends, and opt to exploit that dynamic for her benefit. For example, Audra could go to Holden and try to sway him into helping her make it appear to Kyle that he and Claire have something going on behind Kyle’s back. Now to get Holden on her side, Audra may have to beg a little, considering how poorly she’s treated her old “friend,” but he may get on board with the scheme if the price is right.

And heck, perhaps Audra doesn’t even talk to Holden first, but instead sees his bond with Claire and sets them both up to make it appear that Claire cheated on Kyle, even if it’s not true. Kyle is a man with a lot of ego, so he won’t take kindly to believing he’s been cheated on.

At this juncture, this is all largely theory. However, we just don’t think anyone should count Audra out yet.

Call us suspicious, but we never bought the story The Young and the Restless’ Cane (Billy Flynn) was selling in regards to how he earned his fortune in six years.

He claimed that before Colin (Tristan Rogers) passed away, the two fixed their broken relationship and worked together to amass an empire on the back of their bitcoin investments. However, given Colin and Cane’s knack for lying and running schemes, we doubt the validity of this convenient explanation.

Fast forward to The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 23. As Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) remain under house arrest, held hostage in Cane’s storage room, they start looking through a trunk. They find some old books and eventually spot an old family photo, but not of Cane and his brood. Nick surmises the photo looks as if it were taken in the “early 1900s,” and he spots Cane’s chateau in the pic. This leads Nick and Sharon to guess that the image is of the family that used to own the property.

Thumbing through more images, Nick and Sharon find one picture that has “De Leon Family, 1924” written on the back of it. The exes wonder if Cane’s estate was once the famous Chante de Leon winery, a company that stopped producing wine years ago, despite the fact they haven't seen any vines or grapes on the property.

They ultimately assume that it is, and perhaps Cane placed the maze over the vineyard. Although, they can’t figure out why Cane would go through the trouble of doing that. Nick and Sharon end the episode finding a bottle of champagne and trying to pick the lock to the storage room so they can escape.

We think their discoveries will ultimately prove fruitful in trying to get to the truth of how Cane became so powerful and what his true intentions are.

With all that being said, we now have a theory that Cane became a billionaire after becoming a widower. During his time away from Genoa City, he secretly got married to a descendant of the De Leon family. However, the marriage didn’t last long as his mystery wife died and left her family’s wealth and property to Cane. If this hunch is correct, we can’t say whether he married for love or a con, but either way, we wouldn’t be surprised.

Taking this hypothetical further, let’s say there are other living members of the De Leon family who aren’t happy that Cane inherited their family legacy. Could these individuals be the ones that Cane believes are trying to kill him?

Cane has been rather insistent that someone wants him dead, even assuming that Damian (Jermaine Rivers) was murdered by mistake and that he was the real target. It’s worth noting, Damian and Cane were poisoned by drinking the bottle of toxic liquor, and as a family uniquely knowledgeable of wine and the bottling process, it’s not hard to picture members of the De Leon family using poison in a beverage to harm their prey.

Again, Cane being a widower and inheriting an “ill-gotten” estate, is just a theory. However, it’s one we’ll be watching closely to see if it proves true.

Over the years, The Young and the Restless’ Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has proven he’s the one person in Genoa City you never want to cross. Coming after his family or businesses is always a mistake because he has a long memory, he is a masterful tactician and he makes getting revenge look like a highly skilled art.

With that being said, Cane (Billy Flynn) should be worried on some level. Not only has Cane been keeping Victor, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) cut off from the outside world at his French estate, but thanks to Adam (Mark Grossman), Victor knows Cane is making mysterious moves in Genoa City that could impact Newman Enterprises and Chancellor.

All of this is offensive enough to The Mustache, but Cane now holding Nick and Sharon hostage in some kind of storage room while accusing Nick of murdering Damian (Jermaine Rivers) has fully infuriated Victor. Oh, and can you imagine how Victor will grow even more enraged when he learns that while Cane has been playing his games, Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Claire (Hayley Erin) have been back home without their support system in the wake of Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) death.

Cane better buckle in, because we can picture that sooner or later, Victor is about to make humbling Cane his number one priority, which should be good news for Jack (Peter Bergman), who has grown tired of his reignited feud with Victor. Should we be correct with our hunch, then we have to think about what Victor may wind up doing.

If we had to guess, Victor might take things to a personal level since Cane has gone after his family. This is where things could get tricky and interesting at the same time.

Cane went after Nick, but Victor probably won’t go after Cane’s twins, Mattie and Charlie, in a similar manner because of Lily (Christel Khalil) and Neil (Kristoff St. John). Neil was Victor’s best friend, and despite crossing Lily over Chancellor, Victor still respects his best friend’s daughter. So he wouldn’t want to harm Neil's grandchildren.

However, Cane has already suggested that Mattie and Charlie don’t know about his secret Aristotle Dumas identity. Even when news breaks of Cane’s secret persona, we can imagine Victor using Newman Media to help craft a negative image of Cane as a swindler and criminal, with the hopes of painting him in a bad light with the entire globe, especially Mattie and Charlie. Victor may want to do everything in his power to ensure Cane’s two children want nothing to do with him. And this again is just the twins.

As longtime viewers of The Young and the Restless know, Cane also has a younger son named Sam. Now Sam hasn’t been brought up in a while; however, to our knowledge, he’s around somewhere in the fictional soap world. Is it possible that the Newman patriarch will take a more direct approach in turning Sam against Cane, given Sam has no ties to Neil? Heck, will Victor even hope to weaponize Sam against Cane in some form or fashion?

Lastly, we can’t shake the possibility that Colin (Tristan Rogers) is very much alive and well, despite what Cane has alleged. If he is, and Victor learns of this, you better believe Victor would seek him out and drag the truth out of Colin about what he and Cane have really gotten themselves into and how they acquired their wealth.

All in all, we’re kind of excited to see Victor have another opponent on the scene to level. As much as his revived feud with Jack was fun to watch at first, that rivalry has lost its gusto as it seems to be one-sided. Jack is not interested in going toe-to-toe with Victor these days.

In a moment of déjà vu, The Young and the Restless’ Jack (Peter Bergman) and Billy (Jason Thompson) once again find themselves at odds, and their differing opinion ends in a knee-jerk decision. This time, Billy severed his business relationship with his older brother at Abbott Communications, doing so without even securing another investor first.

It all goes down in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 21. Jack and Billy pick up their conversation from the previous episode, and Billy takes exception to his big brother insinuating that he is preparing to let Jack down again.

From Jack’s perspective, he’s just frustrated that his brother is essentially going back on his word to focus on Abbott Communications, and instead, is focusing again on taking Chancellor away from Victor (Eric Braeden). Jack can’t fathom why his brother is even willing to partner with Cane (Billy Flynn) to make that happen, given Cane is currently accused of murder.

Understandably, Jack is not only worried about his brother’s obsession over Chancellor, but he’s also concerned about his investment in Abbott Communications. The two men trade a few barbs, in which Jack notes that Abbott Communications wouldn’t be able to get the doors open without his investment.

Tired of having this same conversation with Jack, Billy decides in this moment to pull the impulsive trigger and terminate his working relationship with him. He promises to return Jack’s investment and hints that Cane could be his new investor. So not only is Billy determined to get Abbott Communications up and running, but he’s also set on getting back Chancellor in some capacity.

Having said all of that, we can’t help but predict chaos and heartache in Billy’s future. Billy is putting all his eggs in this Cane basket, and Cane seems less than trustworthy. He’s currently working on a sneaky plan to get his hooks into all of the major corporations in Genoa City, and we still question the origin of his newfound fortune. Plus, as Jack pointed out, Cane is still a suspect in the murder of Damian (Jermaine Rivers).

If we had to guess, Billy will come to realize he’s ruined his chance to make Abbott Communications a big deal in Genoa City, chasing after Chancellor. Recalling his deal with Sally (Courtney Hope), if he goes all in in his pursuit of Chancellor, he’s leaving her in charge to run Abbott Communications.

We suspect he is going to jump ship for Chancellor, with the intention of leaving his girlfriend to run the company, but do so before Jack fully divests. Should that happen, we’d further go on to say that Jack doesn’t leave Sally in charge but taps Diane (Susan Walters) to be the boss instead.

Even if Cane does invest in Abbott Communications, assuming control of Jack’s stake in the company, we aren’t that confident that Cane wouldn’t double-cross Billy or that Cane would be able to be a sturdy source for the company.

Oh, and let’s not forget, Billy wants to tie his Chancellor future to Cane, who is already inching toward a partnership with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). She’s been stabbed in the back a few times by Billy, so who’s to say that if Cane somehow acquires Chancellor from Victor, that Phyllis won’t finally return the favor and make sure he’s cut out of the business.

All in all, we just think Billy will live to regret rejecting Jack’s help for Abbott Communications and continuing on in his Chancellor obsession. If Billy manages to lose Abbott Communications and is duped when it comes to Chancellor, we can imagine him going into one of his classic downward spirals.

The powers that be have announced the nominees for the 2025 Daytime Emmy Awards, and I’m feeling a myriad of emotions. While I’m shocked that The Bold and the Beautiful has been shut out of the main soap categories and disappointed that The Young and the Restless’ Melody Thomas Scott and Colleen Zenk were both snubbed for the respective portrayals as Nikki and Jordan, I still find myself thrilled to see the list of nominees, especially when I feel as if the nomination was completely deserved.

That brings me the nominations for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress. Although I wish Scott were added to the number, every actress in the category is deserving of a nomination.

Sharon Case and Michelle Stafford were phenomenal on The Young and the Restless during the eligible nominating period, portraying Sharon and Phyllis wrestling with the death of Heather (Vail Bloom), the torment by Jordan and Ian (Ray Ward) and the then the kidnapping at the hands of Martin (Christopher Cousins).

Also from The Young and the Restless, Melissa Claire Egan did a dynamite job portraying Chelsea, a mother struggling to help her son cope with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and a girlfriend wrestling with feelings for two men at the time.

Over in the land of General Hospital, Nancy Lee Grahn and Laura Wright (who respectively play Alexis and Carly on the soap) definitely earned their applause and rave reviews. Alexis has had to deal with a lot, including the death of her daughter, Sam (Kelly Monaco), and trying to help her other daughters and grandchildren adjust to such a loss.

And Carly has had to suffer through almost losing another child, while fiercely taking on Drew (Cameron Mathison), Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) for the sake of her grandchildren. Plus, it’s been nice to see Carly transform into the de facto Spencer matriarch.

With all that being said though, my money for the winner of this year’s Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress category is The Young and the Restless’ Eileen Davidson.

From the moment Davidson’s character Ashley kicked off her dissociative identity disorder (DID), I’ve been nothing short of impressed by the range of talent Davidson used in not only portraying Ashley, but the other personalities of her psyche as well. Right before viewers' eyes, she morphed from a confused and terrified Ashley to a wildly flirtatious Belle to a naive Ash to an assertive and ruthless Ms. Abbott. I can’t say I can recall any actress from any soap playing four different personalities.

Then I was completely riveted watching Ashley come to grips with her fragile mental health state and her having to face off with the spark of her mental torment, Martin. Not only did Ashley have to come face-to-face with him in Paris the night Alan (Christopher Cousins) died, but she also had to confront Martin in Genoa City as he pretended to be Alan and in love with Traci (Beth Maitland).

I’ve been so enamored with Ashley’s story that I’ve actually missed her in her long hiatus in France. Not for nothing, CBS still hasn’t gone into the childhood weeds as to what originally caused her DID. Martin may have prompted her different personalities to emerge, but as our psychology research and even the soap suggested, Ashley’s DID originated in childhood. What could have happened to her that viewers have yet to learn? I’m hoping that’s something that’s explored in future episodes.

In The Young and the Restless realm, Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) has garnered a reputation for being ruthless, manipulative and a bit self-serving. So as determined as she was to be her own boss in Genoa City with her new cosmetics company Vibrante, we never doubted that she would be successful in seducing Kyle (Michael Mealor) to secure the business and funding from Victor (Eric Braeden). However, what we did doubt is whether everything would go to plan in her Kyle plot.

Fast forward to The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 18, and news of Damian’s (Jermaine Rivers) murder continues to make its rounds among Cane’s (Billy Flynn) party guests. After hearing the crushing update, a very upset Audra rushes to Kyle’s train car for comfort, and he happens to be in nothing but a towel.

Not once opting to put some clothes on, Kyle listens as Audra shares all the sordid details of what the guests know so far about the homicide. Additionally, she becomes engulfed with emotions thinking about how heartbreaking this news will be for Amy (Valarie Pettiford) and Nate (Sean Dominic) to learn.

For Amy, Damian was her only son, and for Nate, he was just getting to know his long-lost brother (we still both Amy and Nate will have more time to bond with Damian because we aren’t convinced he’s dead, but we digress for now).

As Audra and Kyle continue to talk, she expresses her concern that they may be doing business with a murderer, as she suspects Cane is the guilty party here. Kyle claims they don’t know that to be the truth at this juncture. She then responds by noting she feels safe in the moment with Kyle, and that's all it takes for the duo to exchange some longing looks and share a passionate kiss.

That’s where the episode ends for them, so we can’t say yet if the two will stop themselves or go ahead and hit the hay. Again, Kyle is only in a towel. But whether Kyle and Audra go all the way or don’t, they’ve now cheated on Claire (Hayley Erin) and Nate, respectively. This was essentially what Victor wanted as part of his alliance with Audra, thinking Kyle’s infidelity would end his relationship with Claire and send Kyle packing out of Genoa City.

However, with that being said, Victor only gets to run his victory lap in this scenario if Audra tells him about what happened. We aren’t sure she’ll be willing to do that.

Let’s think about this. The murder of Damian changes things dramatically. Audra is close to Amy and Nate, and would she really want to add this layer of scheming to their grieving process? By telling on Kyle and their infidelity, she’s telling on herself. She may not want Nate to have to deal with losing a brother and have to process the fact that she cheated on him for her career (although she clearly has feelings for Kyle as well).

Plus, when Audra learns that Cole (J. Eddie Peck) died, she may not want to dump this cheating scandal on Claire’s plate. Audra isn’t a friend of Claire, but she is human and may want Claire to be able to grieve in peace and have the support of Kyle.

All in all, we just think Audra may opt to keep her mouth shut for the time being. That, of course, puts her in quite the predicament with Victor, but with someone trying to pin Cane’s murder on Nick (Joshua Morrow), the Newman patriarch may find himself rather distracted. But since we are talking about the soap world here, the secret will spill out sooner or later.

And just like that on The Young and the Restless, suspicion for Damian’s (Jermaine Rivers) murder is starting to shift a bit toward Nick (Joshua Morrow).

Despite Cane (Billy Flynn) being the only one spotted with Damian’s dead body and Cane having a pretty solid motive for wanting Damian dead, in the episode airing on July 16, Nick was stunned to find the murder weapon in his sleeping car on the train.

As the episode picked up on July 17, Nick informed Chance (Conner Floyd) of the planted piece of evidence and pointed the finger at Cane for being behind the shady move. Even as Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), who was standing nearby, and Chance doubted that Cane went through the trouble of setting up Nick, the Newman heir was convinced that Cane or Cane’s assistant, Carter (Vincent Stalba), is trying to frame him for a homicide. Furthermore, Nick points to all the secrecy behind Cane and Aristotle Dumas as proof that Cane may not be this innocent bystander.

When Nick later passes along updates about all that’s happened to Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), the patriarch and matriarch of the Newman clan are stunned. Interestingly enough, though, Victor agrees Nick is being set up but doubts Cane is behind it. The Mustache can’t buy that a man who was so careful to craft a new identity and plot against Genoa City power players in the last six years would be so reckless as to commit murder. Nick, however, maintains his theory, and carrying the momentum of outrage with him, he runs into Cane.

Nick and Cane do a lot of posturing and hurl accusations at each other. But it’s Nick’s words that stood out to us most. He informed Cane, "I don’t know what game you’re playing, but trust me, you will lose. You came after the wrong guy and family. But from now on, you come at me man to man, you hear me?"

As if those words from Nick weren’t ominous already, he finishes off his rant telling Cane, "But trust me, you’re gonna wish you were the one who was dead."

With all that being said, we once speculated that although Victor continues to show he’s as cunning as ever, that one of his children would start to really emerge as his true successor in ruthlessness and chaos. While we suggested there was a good chance this person could be Adam (Mark Grossman), we ultimately settled on Victoria (Amelia Heinle). We suspected that in the wake of Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) death, something would unlock inside of her that made it clear who her father is.

Now we bypassed Nick in the discussion, largely because he’s traditionally spent his time in Genoa City being the “good guy,” trying to do whatever he could to prove he was a more upstanding guy than his father.

Plus, Nick has a hot temper, which doesn’t necessarily bode well if you’re trying to be a masterful tactician like the Newman Enterprises founder. However, is Nick about to prove us wrong? Is he about to show everyone, especially Cane, that a "new Victor" is waiting in the wings?

We have to say, Nick’s final words for Cane in the episode from July 17 certainly sent chills down our spines, as they could have come out of Victor’s mouth years ago in his feuding with Jack (Peter Bergman), Ian (Ray Wise), Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) and the list goes on. Additionally, with Victor and Nick closer than ever these days, it’s not hard to imagine Victor providing some close guidance to his son to help him keep his temper in check and to methodically think through a mental game of chess with Cane.

On a final note, we have a hunch that both Nick and Cane will find themselves cleared of murder charges eventually, and that their real showdown could be in Genoa City as they take their battle to the corporate world.

Now that The Young and the Restless has officially kicked off its French murder mystery, with all the Genoa City power players staying at Cane’s (Billy Flynn) estate seen as viable suspects for the death of Damian (Jermaine Rivers), we can’t help but wonder how this twisted storyline will end.

We’ll admit, we still are holding our reservations about whether Damian is actually dead, or if his death has been faked and he’s being held captive somewhere. But, until his survival news is made official, we’re left to follow along with this murder investigation being spearheaded by Chance (Conner Floyd), who admits not to having jurisdiction outside of Genoa City.

Naturally, all eyes of suspicion are being cast upon Cane as the crazed killer. Although viewers know a mystery person came along and stabbed Damian, the other guests never saw this mystery person for themselves.

Plus, we have a theory that Damian’s plight was orchestrated by Cane. Even if Cane didn’t commit the deadly acts, we can’t shake the feeling that he’s pulling the strings here with his assistant, Carter (Vincent Stalba), acting as his perfect little minion.

However, as seen in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 16, blame for Damian’s murder starts to shift to Nick (Joshua Morrow), and for good reason. He locates the murder weapon in his sleeping car on the train and tells Chance that someone is trying to set him up.

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that Nick had no motive to kill Damian. Unfortunately for the Newman heir, we have a hunch that whoever is trying to frame him will make it appear that he really was trying to kill Cane, but made an error. Although we can’t say Nick is no murderer, we can say the times he’s had blood on his hands have always been in the defense of loved ones. Even with Cane going after Chancellor, it's doubtful Nick saw him as a physical threat to his family.

With all that being said, we have a hunch that when the dust settles (and if Damian really is dead), the true murderer will be revealed as Carter. Whether he did it on Cane’s orders or on his own volition to impress Cane, we believe both Nate (Sean Dominic) and Holden (Nathan Owens) are going to have a big issue with Cane.

Nate may have only recently learned that Damian was his brother, but the two were building a bond and grew fond of each other. Heck, Damian even cautioned Audra (Zuleyka Silver) about him keeping an eye on her on Nate’s behalf after noticing her antics with Kyle (Michael Mealor). And as far as Holden, he and Damian may have fallen out in recent weeks, but they were once best friends.

Should Nate and Holden both find themselves devastated by Damian’s death and blame Cane, which we suspect, we believe there’s a chance they’ll put their differences aside to go after Cane. With Holden having a unique position working for Cane at the moment, that could make things a lot easier in enacting a revenge plot.

After this whole Aristotle Dumas charade and now the murder, it’s likely that Cane finds himself facing more enemies than even Victor (Eric Braeden). Especially, when Victor, Jack (Peter Bergman), Devon (Bryton James) and Lily (Christel Khalil) learn Cane’s making moves against their respective companies. Will Cane soon learn that it’s literally him against the world (minus maybe Phyllis [Michelle Stafford])? Heck, will he find himself the target of a murder plot? Cane better tread lightly.

Just like that, another character from The Young and the Restless was allegedly murdered. In the episode airing on July 14, Damian (Jermaine Rivers) was not only poisoned, but he was also stabbed.

When the episode picks up on July 15, Cane (Billy Flynn) insists to Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) that Damian is dead and there is no sense in trying to get him medical attention. Additionally, Cane takes Chance (Conner Floyd) to see the dead body and asks the Genoa City cop to lead a murder investigation in France to determine who the murderer is (again, not sure how Chance has jurisdiction to do anything official in Europe, but we digress). Furthermore, Cane’s assistant, Carter (Vincent Stalba), and another one of Cane’s staffers move Damian’s body with a sheet over it.

Placing the metaphorical nail in this Damian coffin is the fact that Rivers himself took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the character was indeed gone.

Even with all of that being said, we still believe there’s a chance that Damian isn’t dead and will be back at some point. First, there’s something about the way in which this murder went down that doesn’t sit right with us.

It started out as a one-on-one conversation between Damian and Cane over a bottle of liquor. Damian outpaced Cane in drinking from his glass and immediately fell ill due to a poison. Cane claimed to be fine initially, but began feeling ill right before Damian got worse and was eventually stabbed by some mystery person. Then, again in the episode on July 15, after Cane walks away to grab Chance and bring him to the scene of the crime, the bottle containing the poison disappears, along with the murder weapon.

Also, Cane is insistent that Chance not bring local authorities to help with the investigation and doesn’t want the coroner called, but would rather like Damian’s body stashed in a freezer on the property.

Our theory here is that Cane orchestrated this whole ordeal with Carter’s help in a big scheme to win back Lily (Christel Khalil). Cane desperately wants to reunite with his ex, and Damian stood in the way of that. Since we don’t believe he’s a cold-blooded murderer, we think it’s possible he faked Damian’s death with Carter’s help, and will actually wind up hiding Damian somewhere, keeping him prisoner.

Let’s also not forget that Cane drank the poisoned drink suspiciously slow, as if he knew it was deadly and knew how much to digest to give the appearance of him being sick. Therefore, also making him a "victim" in this scenario.

On another note, going back to Rivers’ statement. If you watch the clip, you’ll notice he says, “Yeah, that's what it is, at least for now." To us, that sounds like he’s leaving room for the possibility that he’s not done portraying Damian, but rather just done for the time being.

Lastly, from a storyline perspective, Damian dying prematurely stunts the storylines with Nate (Sean Dominic) and Lily, in our opinion. It would be nice to see Damian’s relationship with his newly-found brother continue to develop and his romance with Lily continue to blossom.

So will Damian make a soapy return from the dead soon? Heck, we certainly hope so.

As the bulk of The Young and the Restless’ power players continue on in Cane’s (Billy Flynn) twisted French scheme, things take a twisted turn in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 14.

It's been rumored for a while now that a "murder mystery" was going to kick off in France, and that's exactly what happens when Damian (Jermaine Rivers) winds up poisoned and stabbed. Although to be clear, Damian was not declared dead by the end of the episode.

We tend to think Damian won't be killed off the show. Though Amy (Valarie Pettiford) had an ominous feeling about Damian leaving Genoa City to go to France weeks ago, he’s not been on The Young and the Restless for even a year. His dying prematurely stunts his storylines with Nate (Sean Dominic) and Lily (Christel Khalil), but that's just our opinion. Damian's fate could very well be sealed.

Anyway, back to Damian's current predicament. At the top of the episode, Lily and Damian run into Cane and Amanda (Mishael Morgan), and Lily brags that she and Damian are an item. Cane is clearly bothered by the news, but wishes Lily the best. He then turns his attention to Damian and requests to speak in private.

During their one-on-one conversation, they talk over an expensive bottle of liquor. Damian outpaces Cane in downing his glass, which proves to be to his detriment. The new Winters employee starts to feel lightheaded and ill, prompting him to immediately accuse Cane of poisoning him.

Cane refutes the accusation, claiming they're both drinking the same liquor, and he's fine. However, the tide eventually turns against Cane, and he too gets sick. Despite being lightheaded himself, he stands Damian up to get him help, not noticing someone watching them from a distance.

As both men are up, that's when the mystery person walks by them and stabs Damian in the back. Cane is shocked by the scene and holds Damian as he collapses to the ground, while the culprit gets away. The duo is later stumbled upon by Phyllis (Michelle Stafford).

With all that being said, that brings us to the big question. Who tried to kill Damian? If we had to guess, it's Carter (Vincent Stalba), Cane’s assistant.

Our theory here is that Cane orchestrated this whole ordeal to win Lily back. Cane desperately wants to reunite with his ex, but she's falling for Damian. If Damian is out of the way, that clears a path for Cane.

Outside of the motive, we should also call attention to the fact that Cane showed noticeable restraint in drinking the liquor with Damian. Is it because Cane was aware that it was poisoned and knew how much to drink to only get slightly ill? After all, Cane being sick helps build the case that he too is a victim in this matter and incapable of being a suspect.

Lastly, let's not forget Cane is loaded. It's easy to imagine Cane paid Carter to do his villainous bidding, and with the deed being done, sets Carter up in the life of luxury in some remote part of the world.

We'll just have to wait and see what Chance (Conner Floyd) manages to unearth in his investigation, as he apparently has jurisdiction to perform law enforcement duties in Europe.

From the moment The Young and the Restless’ Holden (Nathan Owens) stepped foot on the show’s canvas, he’s proven to be charming, has a way with words to get under some people’s skin and he’s quite sneaky.

Case in point, he’s managed to charm his way into a friendship with Claire (Hayley Erin) while ruffling the feathers of both Nate (Sean Hastings) and Lily (Christel Khalil) by pretending to be Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and then making subsequent snide remarks. But let’s zero in on his dynamic with Claire.

In The Young and the Restless episode from July 1, Cane (Billy Flynn) met with Holden at Crimson Lights and tasked him with getting close to Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), Adam (Mark Grossman), Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Claire. Holden seemed more than ready to accept the challenge with Chelsea, Adam and Mariah, and he noted he was already friends with Claire. Cane didn’t really explain the rationale behind his assignment, but it was clear he has some future nefarious intentions for his “targets.”

Fast forward to The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 11, and two important things happen that spell trouble for Claire. First, Holden finds Claire alone at Crimson Lights, and she shares with him that Cole (J. Eddie Peck) died. Holden is quick to offer his condolences and confesses that he has experience grieving a father, as his own dad died of cancer. Wanting to offer Claire some comfort, he suggests they get breakfast, and she hesitantly agrees to go with him to Society.

Their breakfast outing doesn’t exactly go as planned, because when they arrive at Society, they run into Chelsea and Adam. The reconciled couple is onto Holden being Cane’s handler and spy in Genoa City, and subtly grill him, but don’t make it a complete interrogation. Heck, Adam even teases the possibility of hiring Holden at Newman Media to help cover his inquisitive tracks.

Once Adam and Chelsea return to their table, Claire realizes she’s not in the mood for breakfast, and she and Holden talk about how she misses Kyle (Michael Mealor), who is off with Audra (Zuleyka Silver) in France. That leads us to the second important thing that spells trouble for Claire.

In France, Audra and Kyle pitch their perfume competition to Cane. He initially is not interested in the idea, but notices their “chemistry.” Because of their “flirtatious” banter between each other, Cane agrees to delay his public reveal that he’s Aristotle Dumas until Audra and Kyle’s perfume battle plays out. The duo celebrates the good news over drinks in Audra’s train car.

With all that being said, we have a strong hunch that Cane is going to utilize what he saw between Audra and Kyle for his benefit. Cane already has cameras all over his French estate, so we suspect he’ll soon pay extra attention to the footage of Audra and Kyle. Audra is already trying to tempt Kyle to give in and cheat on Clarie, and since we think she’ll prove successful, it’s not hard to picture Cane capturing the moment.

Then once he has the footage, we believe he’ll probably make sure to get the images to Claire “anonymously." Cane would do this all with the purpose of making sure to send Claire running into Holden’s arms for comfort.

With Mariah and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) dealing with their own drama, Holden has proven to be Claire’s only friend in town. If Claire leans on his shoulder to vent about Kyle, would things then take a romantic turn? We don’t see why not, as Claire and Holden shared a meet-cute moment months ago, and we’ve actually been waiting for that dynamic to be explored.

On a final note, if our theory is true, Holden may want to be careful. Claire is nice and sweet now, but we can’t forget Jordan’s (Colleen Zenk) parting words that there is some of the deranged villain inside of Claire Newman.

We said it once, and we’ll say it again, barring a medical emergency or a kidnapping, we just don’t believe The Young and the Restless’ Cane (Billy Flynn) is in The Great Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) league.

Although Cane has managed to become a billionaire in six years, lure most of Genoa City’s power players to France (and trap them) and secretly buy up property all around town, we just have a hard time buying that he’s position himself to be one of the very few people to ever get a one-up on Victor. Heck, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) is Victor’s greatest rival, and not even the Jabot CEO can brag that he’s adequately bested Victor.

Our feelings aside, the powers that be at The Young and the Restless continue to develop the narrative that Cane will prove to be a worthy adversary of Victor. And who knows, perhaps this battle with Victor will be different than our expectations and this feud will provide some must-watch TV.

After all, Victor is still recovering from his gunshot ordeal with Ian (Ray Wise), he’s aging a bit and he’s already fighting a few other battles that need his attention. However, if Cane is in a position to deal a blow to Victor by somehow getting a foothold in Newman Enterprises or stealing Chancellor, we don’t think he’ll have the upper hand for long.

We have every reason to believe Victor can outmaneuver Cane in this corporate game of chess, but we also think there’s a chance that Victor isn’t the Newman that Cane should be preparing to battle with the most.

As we stated, Victor is aging a bit, so now would be a great opportunity to show one of his descendants stepping up and proving they’re just as capable (if not more) of being the ruthless businessperson as the Newman patriarch has shown himself to be time and time again.

Thinking along these lines, if our hunch is correct and Cane’s biggest adversary proves to be another member of the Newman clan, it’s easy to assume that he might be locking horns with Adam (Mark Grossman) soon. Out of all of Victor’s children, Adam, more often than not, is the one who dabbles in the dark side, thriving in the legal grey area to scheme, manipulate and defeat his opponents. He really is a chip off the old block, which makes him a viable threat to Cane.

Then there’s Nick (Joshua Morrow). He's traditionally been the Boy Scout of the bunch, but in more recent years, he’s been showcasing he is willing to do what “needs to be done” to protect his family. Let’s not forget that the man is quick to lose his cool when a threat arises. He was ready to pound Ian into the ground and killed Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) to protect his big sister.

Having said all of that, we think the person who shouldn’t be underestimated here is actually Victoria (Amelia Heinle). Victor’s eldest is in the process of grieving Cole (J. Eddie Peck) and she doesn’t have the support of her parents and Nick because Cane has them cut off from the outside world. When all is revealed on this front, she’s likely to be furious for the games Cane has been playing and how they’ve impacted her.

We should also remember that Victoria is fiercely protective of her mother. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) is really enjoying running Chancellor and doesn’t want to lose the company to anyone. With Cane presenting a threat to Nikki’s happiness, Victoria may become dedicated to taking Cane down. Not for nothing, Victoria may welcome the challenge to help distract her from her Cole grief.

Let’s also add that out of all of the Newmans, Victoria knows Cane the best given their previous experience working together and flirtatious banter. Although Cane seems different these days, she has the best shot at feeling him out to take him down.

Lastly, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the fact that when Victoria is not in a romance, she too can become a mini Victor. She’s earned the reputation of being an ice princess for a reason. Victoria would likely have no problem doing what it takes (sans murder) to defeat Cane.

It wasn’t that long ago when we blasted The Young and the Restless’ Billy (Jason Thompson) for allowing the distractions of Aristotle Dumas/Cane (Billy Flynn), Chancellor and Victor (Eric Braeden) derail Billy’s new business venture, Abbott Communications.

Despite all that big talk about him being ready to finally move on from Victor besting him and his commitment to carve his place in the Genoa City business world with his own business built from the ground up, Billy finds himself focusing on the remote possibility that Cane can take Chancellor from Victor. Not only that, but Billy believes that if he helps Cane in his quest, Cane will give him a lucrative leadership position at Chancellor.

So what of Abbott Communications and its future? Well, back in The Young and the Restless episode from July 1, Sally (Courtney Hope) expressed her concerns about Billy’s Chancellor/Victor “obsession,” and made it clear that she worried he was not focused enough to launch on Abbott Communications, putting her in a bad spot.

To reassure her, Billy made her a written promise that if his dreams of being back at Chancellor come true, Sally would become the sole CEO of Abbott Communications. Sadly for Billy and Sally, we can’t shake the feeling that they’ll both be hit in the face with reality very soon.

Fast forward to The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 9, and Billy and Sally bump into Jack (Peter Bergman) and Diane (Susan Walters). Billy tells his brother and sister-in-law about his hopes for Cane and Chancellor. Jack, in turn, shares his disapproval of Billy not giving all of his attention to Abbott Communications and trusting Cane, and rightfully so. After all, Jack gave Billy a lot of money to start the new business.

Jack then becomes enraged to hear that Billy promised Sally the company should Billy abandon ship for Chancellor. The Jabot CEO feels his younger brother should have consulted him on the matter, and Diane chimes in about Sally’s lack of experience to be a CEO.

By the end of the conversation, Jack warns Billy about putting himself in a position to wind up with no company when it’s all said and done, which makes Billy wonder if Jack will divest from Abbott Communications.

With all that being said, we suspect that Billy will leave Abbott Communications to help Cane acquire Chancellor. However, given how sneaky and manipulative Cane appears to be in this new phase in his life, we don’t think Billy will be put in charge of Chancellor, if Cane gets it. Furthermore, we usually don’t bet against Victor, so we can’t even say Cane will get the company, meaning Billy might bet himself on the wrong horse.

Regardless of whether Billy lands at Chancellor or not, we suspect the moment he leaves Abbott Communications, the company will become up for grabs. Despite his instructions for the business to go to Sally, we just don’t see that happening. In fact, we can imagine one of three scenarios.

First, Jack could wind up leveraging his investment in the company to take it over. Since he’s busy running Jabot, we think he’d then task Diane to run Abbott Communications. Although his wife is currently in charge of the new division at Jabot, we think Diane would jump at the chance to be the CEO of Abbott Communications instead.

Our second guess is that Abbott Communications goes through a hostile takeover at the hands of Adam (Mark Grossman). We aren’t sure how all the pieces of this scenario come into play yet, but since Adam is already in the media space with Newman Media, and he’s Victor’s son, Adam might try to acquire the “competition” and fold it into Newman Media.

The final scenario we can picture is Cane tricking Billy and taking over Abbott Communications for himself. Although Cane hasn’t revealed all his big plans for Genoa City, he has made it clear he pretty much wants a foothold in all the major companies. We can’t help but think that having a media machine that could rival Newman Media could help him do this.

All in all, Billy may be putting himself and Sally on a path of big disappointment.

For weeks now on The Young and the Restless, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) has been wrestling with a secret that she refuses to tell anyone.

No matter how hard Sharon (Sharon Case) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) press Mariah to share what’s been plaguing her since her return from her European work trip, Mariah has remained tight-lipped about it. She has been so afraid to reveal whatever skeleton is in her closet that she even separated from Tessa.

With all that being said, in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 8, after a contentious run-in with Tessa, Mariah finds herself alone and distraught when she has a flashback to her infamous time overseas. In the scene, Mariah is straddling the mysterious older man (Michael Swan) on the couch while smothering him with a pillow. It looks as if she kills him.

If that turns out to be the case, then it’s no wonder Mariah is horrified to disclose to her mom and wife what she did. Merely telling them could make them accessories after the fact. However, we wouldn’t count on Mariah necessarily being hauled off to prison in the foreseeable future.

As with many murders on The Young and the Restless lately, there appear to be some interesting twists. For example, it was initially believed Sharon killed Heather (Vail Bloom), but as it turned out, the guilty party was Jordan (Colleen Zenk). Then, when Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) killed Jeremy Stark (James Hyde), she allegedly did so out of self-defense. And Nick (Joshua Morrow) killed Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) in defense of Victoria (Amelia Heinle).

So while Mariah is seen smothering the mystery man, there is likely some twist that hasn’t yet been revealed. Along those lines, as we’ve said in a previous post, we can’t help but think that Ian (Ray Wise) has a hand in Mariah’s developing storyline. While the rest of Genoa City believes he’s dead, viewers know he’s very much alive.

If we had to guess, Ian could be involved in one of two ways here. First, it’s possible that Ian stalked Mariah to Europe, and he orchestrated this whole ordeal to make Mariah believe she murdered a man. Considering Ian worked with Jordan to drug Sharon and make the Crimson Lights owner think she killed Heather, who’s to say Ian didn’t enact a similar scheme with Mariah and this man?

It’s also possible that Mariah didn’t see Ian alive and well necessarily, but while in Europe, she was suffering from Ian PTSD. We can’t forget, it wasn’t that long ago when Ian tortured Sharon and killed Heather, and Mariah felt responsible for all the chaos that he unleashed.

Given the mystery man is an older gent, we think it’s conceivable that as she was knocking back drinks with him, at some point the PTSD and alcohol led her to believe that the man was Ian, and she killed him. After the deed was done, Mariah then found herself stunned by what she had done. This is a plausible homicide defense for Mariah.

Again, this Ian theory is just that. However, we’ll have to wait and see how this storyline unfolds.

As history has shown The Young and the Restless’ viewers, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) has a habit of being her own worst enemy.

While she has proven to be a brilliant businesswoman, expert hacker and usually has a unique knack for reading people, there are occasions when she lets her impulsivity, selfish ambition and scheming get her into trouble. Although you’d think she’d learn her lessons over the years, her new, relentless desire to work with Cane (Billy Flynn) spells trouble.

Now to be fair, on some level, we can understand Phyllis wanting to revive her professional life with Cane. Arguably since Diane (Susan Walters) returned from the dead, Phyllis has been unable to get back on her feet in terms of her career. She faced an uncomfortable situation at Chancellor-Winters, was fired by Billy (Jason Thompson) from Abbott-Chancellor and then terminated by Billy again from Abbott Communications.

With Billy and Phyllis no longer on good terms, she has no pathway into one of the big corporations in Genoa City at the moment. Diane would never allow Jack (Peter Bergman) to hire Phyllis back at Jabot, Victor (Eric Braeden) has never liked Phyllis (so he’s unlikely to hire her at Newman) and Lily (Christel Khalil) won’t entertain working with Phyllis at Winters.

Knowing all of that, it’s easy to imagine why Phyllis would want to work with Cane. She’s never burned a bridge with him, he’s a billionaire and he’s on a quest to take over Genoa City. Literally, the man wants to control the major businesses in town (we fail to understand how that’s even possible at this juncture, but we digress).

However, as Sharon (Sharon Case), Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and others have noted, this version of Cane seems different. Sharon even warned Phyllis about trying to work with him, but Phyllis continues to ignore her own gut and pursue a position within his organization.

In The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 7, Nick (Joshua Morrow) speaks with Phyllis one-on-one and implores her to wake up and pay attention. He urges her to pick a side in this looming corporate battle to come, and he clearly wants her to pick the side of those who will oppose Cane. Considering it looks as if Nick and Sharon will again try to get through to Phyllis later in the week, it seems as if Nick’s words fall flat with Phyllis.

This brings us to our overall point. We can’t help but think that with Phyllis and Sharon attempting to be friends these days, Sharon may do something truly shocking to help lure Phyllis away from Cane. What might that be? Well, if we had to guess, Sharon may soon offer Phyllis a job working at Cassidy First Technology.

The idea of the two working together isn’t a completely novel one to us, as we’ve previously floated the idea. They may have spent decades loathing each other, but them working together could be mutually beneficial.

From Phyllis’ perspective, working with Sharon gets her away from working with Cane and his sinister plot, while also giving her a position at a company where she doesn’t have bad blood. From Sharon’s point of view, she could really use Phyllis’ skillset, especially with Mariah (Camryn Grimes) spiraling about whatever she did while away in Europe.

Let’s say Sharon does offer Phyllis a job though, would Phyllis really take it? Despite Phyllis claiming she’s a different woman these days, old habits die hard. So, we suspect she would choose the more problematic route with Cane. But considering this is all a theory at this point, we’ll just have to keep watching to see what happens.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I just don’t know if I can buy The Young and the Restless’ Cane (Billy Flynn) as this new big rival of The Great Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).

While it may be impressive that Cane managed to become a business tycoon and billionaire in six years (although I question the validity of that), I just can't imagine he has the chops to take down The Mustache. If Jack (Peter Bergman), Victor’s biggest rival, can’t topple the Newman patriarch, I can’t see Cane being able to achieve such a feat.

But let’s say Cane is setting himself up to have a knockdown, drag-out corporate fight with Victor over Chancellor. Him trying to steal Chancellor from Victor and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) is not what I think should really rile the Newman family. Sure, they should be upset and ready to strike back. However, Cane holding the Newmans “hostage” in Nice, France, should really be what angers them, as it comes at the most inopportune time.

In The Young and the Restless episode that aired on July 3, Cole (J. Eddie Peck) passed away due to complications from his Legionnaires' disease diagnosis. I wasn’t surprised that he died, as in recent months, he’s been sparse on the Genoa City canvas. However, it was sad to see Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Claire (Hayley Erin) left so devastated.

Furthermore, their would-be support system is nowhere to be found as Victor, Nikki, Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Kyle (Michael Mealor) are all stuck in Europe thanks to Cane. Not only that, but because of Cane, they don’t even have access to phone service.

When the Newmans learn of Victoria and Claire’s loss and catch wind that Cane is the reason they’ve been prohibited from offering immediate comfort to the mother/daughter duo, they should become enraged.

Now I know some will argue that Cane shouldn’t be put on blast for this reason, as he couldn’t possibly know Cole would die during Cane's big maniacal shindig. However, as creepy as he has been stalking the power players in Genoa City, you’d think he’d have intel on Cole’s medical status.

Plus, no one told Cane to plan this whole elaborate (and tiresome) scheme to keep all his guests cut off from the outside world. The Genoa City residents may be held up in the life of luxury in France, but at the end of the day, they’re unable to leave due to Cane’s elaborate deception. I’m not a legal expert, but I’d venture to say this borders on kidnapping.

When it’s all said and done, I suspect that when Victor and Nikki learn that Cane is to blame for keeping them from Victoria and Claire in their time of bereavement, they’ll be fuming. Cane may grow to be remorseful for the consequences of his actions, but that may not matter should the Newmans seek revenge.

On a side note, Kyle might be ready to erupt at Cane, too, when he learns he’s being kept from providing support to Claire. Especially if she winds up finding support in a certain handsome newcomer to Genoa City, aka Holden (Nathan Owens).

Sadly, the moment we predicted has finally arrived on The Young and the Restless in the episode airing July 3. Cole (J. Eddie Peck) dies from complications of his Legionnaires' disease diagnosis, leaving Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Claire (Hayley Erin) devastated.

Backing up for a moment, the episode kicks off with Victoria and Claire at Cole’s bedside. Cole insists that it’s time they all said their “goodbyes,” but Claire just isn’t able to do it, so she leaves the hospital room.

Victoria, on the other hand, remains by his side. After acknowledging that he knows Victoria will take care of their daughter when he’s gone, he promises to see Victoria in the afterlife. She kisses him one last time before he flatlines.

When Victoria and Claire arrive back at the Newman tackhouse later, they attempt to comfort one another before Claire makes her way upstairs for some alone time. She tries to reach out to Kyle (Michael Mealor) for the umpteenth time, but again, he doesn’t answer the phone. Not for nothing, Kyle, along with the other party guests on Cane’s (Billy Flynn) estate, still don’t have phone service.

With Claire being unable to reach Kyle, and Victoria not able to find comfort in Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Victor (Eric Braeden) or Nick (Joshua Morrow), who are all abroad with Kyle, we think the mother/daughter duo may seek support during their time of grief elsewhere. Sure, they’ll rely on each other quite a bit, but Claire and Victoria will probably want someone to talk to who isn’t as close to this situation.

In terms of Claire, we think she’s about to run straight into the arms of Holden (Nathan Owens). After helping her with her recent panic attack, he was already aware of Cole’s deteriorating health, and he proved to be a solid shoulder for her to cry on. He’s likely the perfect person to console her while Kyle is away.

Here’s the thing, though. Although Holden and Claire are friends, we’ve noticed the potential for more between them for a while. If her mind becomes so clouded with grief, it’s possible she allows herself to engage in a little more than flirtatious banter.

While we thought Kyle would be the first one to cheat in their relationship by having an affair with Audra (Zuleyka Silver), Claire could certainly surprise me. (It’s also possible that Kyle does cheat first, Claire finds out about it and then turns to Holden for a night of romance herself, but that’s a theory worth exploring on another day.)

When it comes to Victoria, we found it rather interesting that since her family has been away, the one person she’s talked to about Cole is her ex, Nate (Sean Dominic). He was great at providing her with some peace of mind, and the two even acknowledged that the past is the past and they’re friends again. So could Nate be her next great love?

This is harder to picture because of the baggage between the two, but we believe it’s in the realm of strong possibility. Yes, he’s currently in a loving relationship with Audra. However, the writing is on the wall for that pairing to crash and burn.

Audra keeps lying. She lied about her past and residual feelings for Holden, she lied about her true deal with Victor and she’s lying (maybe even to herself) about the lengths she’s willing to go to in order to trap Kyle. Again, we see her and Kyle cheating with one another, which doesn’t bode well for her relationship with Nate. So if Nate comforts Victoria during this difficult time, the groundwork of their deep connection is bound to be strengthened.

Now for those questioning if Nate would really reunite with Victoria, given how they ended the last time because of Victor’s interference, we think the former doctor would. Look how many times Billy (Jason Thompson) threw caution to the wind and reunited with Victoria, despite Victor’s strong disapproval and interference. Plus, things would be different this go-around with Nate no longer working at Newman Enterprises. Victor may be less apprehensive about Nate if he isn’t his employee.

At this juncture, we can only theorize what’s next for Claire and Victoria. However, we hope some sunshine comes after this heavy bit of rain.

The big saga of The Young and the Restless’ Aristotle Dumas/Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) continues, as Cane keeps setting the pieces on his dubious chessboard.

After The Young and the Restless episode on July 1 revealed that Cane had Holden (Nathan Owens) buy up several properties in Genoa City, and Cane further tasked Holden with getting close to four specific individuals in town, Cane’s next conversation is with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), who is shocked to see him at Crimson Lights.

As Cane and Chelsea get reacquainted, Chelsea can’t help but feel suspicious throughout the conversation. Chelsea inquires about Lily (Christel Khalil), and Cane replies that his ex is in France. That prompts Chelsea to ask how he knows where Lily is, and he eventually admits to knowing Aristotle Dumas very well. Naturally, Chelsea wants to ask more questions, but Cane takes off to head to the airport. However, he notes that she’ll have answers soon.

Later in the episode, Chelsea meets up with Adam (Mark Grossman) and recaps her Cane conversation, also mentioning how different Cane seems. Adam brings up Aristotle purchasing property in Genoa City and the fact that Cane left town around six years ago to look for his father, Colin (Tristan Rogers), which coincides with Aristotle’s emergence. That’s when Chelsea and Adam come up with the theory that Colin is Aristotle (again, Aristotle is actually Cane, but Chelsea and Adam don’t know that).

Elsewhere in the episode, Devon (Bryton James) and Amanda (Mishael Morgan) have a heated conversation when Devon grills Amanda about Cane’s agenda. Devon even floats the idea that Cane lied about Colin being dead. Amanda pretty much calls the theory about Colin ridiculous and chastises Devon for demanding answers from her.

Having said all of this, we have to wonder, is Colin really dead? After all, we only really have Cane’s word that his father passed, and both Colin and Cane have a contentious relationship with the truth. Plus, as Chelsea and Sharon (Sharon Case) have already commented, there is something different about Cane, and neither lady meant that in a positive way. Could Colin and Cane be involved in such a sinister scheme that they’d fake Colin’s death?

If that proves to be the case, we again have to call into question how Cane really came into his fortune and if he did so through legitimate means. We’d also have to wonder more about what Cane is really up to. Honestly, we hope all is revealed soon, as the mysteries surrounding Aristotle have been dragging on for quite some time.

As The Young and the Restless saga of Aristotle Dumas/Cane (Billy Flynn) continues to unfold, the good residents of Genoa City find themselves steadily trying to solve all the mysteries surrounding Cane since his return.

Despite his claims that he and his father legitimately acquired a massive amount of wealth through cryptocurrency and other investments, there are many doubts lingering about whether this story is true. We even suspect Cane is being dishonest about how he became a billionaire.

There’s also this notion that Cane wanted to acquire Chancellor Industries, but once Victor (Eric Braeden) made it clear the company is not for sale, Cane dropped the idea. No one is buying Cane’s willingness to just give up so easily, and nor should they.

Beyond Cane’s new questionable wealth and his play for Chancellor, he’s finding no one trusts him or his motives these days because this whole elaborate shindig he’s hosting in France for the who’s who of Genoa City. He’s failed to really explain why he’s invited them there. And of course, as viewers know, he’s lied to guests about the “inability” to leave the property due to a storm, even as he has snuck off to Genoa City to meet Holden (Nathan Owens), as shown in The Young and the Restless episode airing on July 1.

In a previous episode, it was revealed that Holden is Cane’s secret employee and has been buying up real estate all over Genoa City on Cane’s behalf. Some of these properties are conveniently located near Jabot and Newman Enterprises, which leads us to believe that both Jack (Peter Bergman) and Victor are in for an unwelcome surprise in the very near future.

During Holden and Cane’s meeting on July 1, Cane does two things that make us raise our eyebrows. In a moment that’s not a surprise, he grills Holden about Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and his connection to Lily (Christel Khalil).

Holden notes that Damian is attracted to Lily and partially stayed in town for her, but Holden shoots down Cane’s insinuation that Damian is a current player and will hurt Lily. However, Cane still believes he must protect Lily from Damian.

Cane then gives Holden another assignment. He provides Holden with a list of names and wants him to “gain their confidence.” On the list are Adam (Mark Grossman), Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Claire (Hayley Erin). Holden points out that he already knows Claire and claims it will be no problem getting to know the rest.

Here’s the thing. Holden didn’t seem to have reservations about Claire’s name being on the list for now, as Cane hasn’t stated any plans of using her or manipulating her. However, we have to think that as Cane’s plans for Claire become clearer, Holden would protest to doing anything that harms her. After all, Holden and Claire are becoming friends, with her even recently confiding in him about Cole (J. Eddie Peck) and him consoling her as she had a panic attack of sorts. Would Holden really be willing to sell Claire out to Cane should the time come?

Heck, we haven’t even mentioned the possible romantic connection that might form between Claire and Holden. If the two wind up gravitating towards each other in that way, either in a moment of infidelity or after Claire learns of an affair between Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Audra (Zuleyka Silver), we can’t say we see Holden just freely betraying Claire. Although we recognize that Holden is new to the show’s canvas, he could be capable of anything.

It looks like we’ll just have to see what’s in store for Holden, as Cane most likely will push him to test his loyalties. Will Holden wind up stepping up to protect Claire? For that matter, will he wind up coming to Damian’s rescue?

After months of talking about The Young and the Restless’ enigma known as Aristotle Dumas, viewers finally know that the mystery tycoon is none other than Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn). Although his full plans have yet to be revealed, I at the very least know that Cane is the person who has been rattling the cages around Genoa City for months.

Now, with the recent revelation that Holden (Nathan Owens) has been buying up property around town near Jabot and Newman Enterprises for Cane, I have to believe Cane will soon launch a plan of attack on the companies. Especially in light of the fact that he’s tricked all of his guests in France that they are stuck at his Nice home due to a recent storm.

Having stated all of this, I can’t help but think of Cane being this viable threat to the biggest power brokers in town. Although I still don’t buy that Cane can go toe-to-toe with The Great Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), since writers are building Cane up as this worthy adversary of Victor, I’ll go along with this new narrative.

In the case that Cane is preparing an attack against Jabot and Newman Enterprises, in addition to his quest for Chancellor, I’m starting to believe some people should form an alliance in an effort to preserve the current status quo. Thinking along these lines, I came up with the perfect trio that would really keep me entertained. I’m talking about a partnership consisting of Victor, Jack (Peter Bergman) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford).

Before you blast this as a preposterous idea, let’s really talk about this. Look, I know Jack and Victor are in the middle of a reignited feud and neither trusts the other, but even Victor would put his beef aside with his fiercest enemy if it meant saving Chancellor for Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and his firstborn, Newman Enterprises. Additionally, Jack would do anything to save his father’s legacy and has proven with his infamous hotel bender that he’s willing to go to great lengths to protect Nikki.

Then there’s the whole Phyllis component of it all. Now she has bad blood with both Victor and Jack, so neither man has a reason to trust her. However, regardless of how people may feel about her, she is a savvy tech guru and has solid experience in the business world. She actually can be an asset for whoever she works for.

While Phyllis wants her next boss to be Cane at this juncture, after her conversation with Sharon (Sharon Case), it’s clear Phyllis is not completely oblivious to that there may be something sinister going on with him. So I’d like for her to partner with people who may prove to have a little more stability in Genoa City.

Again, there is bad blood among the trio, but if Victor and Jack could let bygones be bygones for the greater good, then all three of them could do that. With that said, Diane (Susan Walters) may not be so forgiving, so if Phyllis were to partner with Jack and Victor, she may have to do so with a position working directly for Victor or working in a freelance capacity.

Lastly, Philly working with Victor and Jack could finally place her in a new era. She’s been stuck in a rut ever since she faked her death, and I think this alliance could finally focus Phyllis, which I’ve been quietly hoping for. Phyllis has been out of control for too long.

Even if this wild fantasy alliance were to happen, it likely would fall apart at some point. However, it would be an interesting storyline in the interim and I believe Phyllis would come out of it with a hefty windfall, a top-level executive job or both. Oh, and Jack and Victor would probably maintain their family businesses.

When The Young and the Restless’ Damian (Jermaine Rivers) was headed off to Nice, France, to join almost all the heavy-hitters of Genoa City at Cane’s (Billy Flynn) elaborate party, we couldn’t help but notice Amy’s (Valarie Pettiford) hesitation. She had a bad feeling about him going to finally meet Aristotle Dumas face-to-face, and we thought at the time that her intuition foreshadowed some bad times ahead for her son. Were we right?

After Chance’s (Conner Floyd) arrival in France, Cane pulled him aside and shared his belief that by the time all the festivities were over, someone would try to kill him. Cane didn’t give Chance a name, but the newly minted billionaire planted the suspicious seed. With rumors swirling around on social media that a murder-mystery (or an attempted-murder-mystery) may soon kick off on the soap, we found ourselves floating a few theories.

First, there was the notion that Damian could find himself murdered, and Amy’s concern for her son would prove to be a loose prediction of his deadly fate.

We also considered the possibility that someone would indeed try to kill Cane and murder Chance by mistake. With Chance portrayer Floyd headed to Days of Our Lives, and us suspecting that Cane’s wealth came by illegitimate means, we can picture Chance dying in the "line of duty" trying to save Cane from a mysterious enemy, yet to be revealed.

However, what if Cane is orchestrating a murder mystery to eliminate his romantic competition for Lily’s (Christel Khalil) heart — Damian? Lily and Damian have gotten rather close in recent months, and there is obvious chemistry between the two. She’s even led Cane to believe she and Damian are further along in their romantic journey than they really are. So, with Cane wanting Lily back and her refusing to reunite with him, will he attempt to further his agenda by getting Damian out of the way?

Not for nothing, in The Young and the Restless episode airing on June 25, Lily and Damian were exploring one of the train cars, and Damian picked up a knife he noticed in a knife collection. He put his fingerprints on a potential weapon, and with Cane having cameras everywhere on his property, Cane likely knows this.

Additionally, during one of Cane’s impassioned pleas to win Lily back, he mentioned that she didn’t really know Damian. Cane made it appear as if Damian shouldn’t be trusted and was possibly dangerous. It was as if Cane was laying the groundwork for a masterful frame job.

With all that being said, if we’re right about Cane setting Damian up for his attempted murder, then Damian is going to need some help. This is where Holden (Nathan Owens) could prove to be very helpful.

Although Damian and Holden are currently on the outs thanks to Damian getting close to Nate (Sean Dominic) and joining Winters, Damian and Holden were once best friends. Would Holden really want his former bestie going down for a crime he didn’t commit?

Since Holden is secretly working for Cane, buying up precious real estate for him around Genoa City, we suspect Holden may be able to gain access to information that could eventually exonerate Damian from any wrongdoing. Now Holden might need a push to do the right thing and betray Cane’s trust, but we suspect that could come from Claire (Hayley Erin) or even Amy.

We’ll ultimately just have to stay tuned to see what Cane has up his sleeves. But, with all this buildup about Aristotle Dumas, we have to believe he’ll soon be at the center of plenty of drama.

Regardless of how you may feel about The Young and the Restless’ Billy (Jason Thompson), if you’re like me, you couldn’t help but feel bad for him when his hopes and dreams of running Chancellor were snatched from him.

Just to recap, Jill (Jess Walton) initially brought him to Chancellor-Winters wanting his support in dealing with Mamie (Veronica Redd). Plus, he was hoping to have the chance to finally make a better name for himself in the business world since he was clearly not going to get that executive opportunity at his father’s legacy, Jabot. Not with Jack (Peter Bergman) there as CEO and Kyle (Michael Mealor) waiting as the heir apparent.

But as Billy settled in at Chancellor-Winters, things instantly started to fall apart, in part because of his own hubris, but also due to Devon’s (Bryton James) stubbornness. Then, as the companies demerged, and Billy became excited to run Chancellor-Abbott with Lily (Christel Khalil), he was backstabbed by Lily to the point he had to fire her due to a lack of trust. Although Jill was skeptical of Billy’s decision, he remained committed to taking Chancellor-Abbott to new heights, even willing to rehire Lily.

Unfortunately for him, Jill grew tired of dealing with the corporate fuss of Chancellor and was also likely too tired to put up a fight against Victor (Eric Braeden), who was determined to reacquire the corporation. Which he did, leaving Billy unemployed and without his “fresh start” and chance to prove himself to all of naysayers.

Fast forward past all his claims to make Victor pay and get back Chancellor, Billy came to a point of acceptance, and was ready to move on with Abbott Communications, a new company that’s partially being funded by Jack. Billy was hopeful for this next chapter, especially as it’s something he has to build from the ground up, without the foundation being laid by John Abbott, or Phillip and Katherine Chancellor.

With all that being said, I was excited for Billy. I was tired of hearing him go on and on about Victor. But then came this Aristotle Dumas/Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) factor, and he too easily allowed himself to get distracted by the notion of revenge on The Mustache and even getting his hands again on Chancellor. As Kenny Rogers once said in the song “The Gambler”:

“You've got to know when to hold 'em. Know when to fold 'em. Know when to walk away. And know when to run.”

Billy should “fold ‘em,” “walk away,” and “run.” He’s again becoming obsessed with Chancellor thanks to Cane. No matter how many times Sally (Courtney Hope) tries to get Billy to refocus, he can’t, which is sad. Abbott Communications hasn’t even really been able to get off the ground because he’s so distracted.

He'd better wake up soon before he loses this great opportunity, along with Jack’s investment. And if the latter happens, you better believe Diane (Susan Walters) is going to have a lot to say about this, as she has been skeptical of this venture for quite some time.

I’m going to give Billy until the end of the summer to get his affairs in order when it comes to Abbott Communications. If he hasn’t by then, expect me to have a lot more to say.

In The Young and the Restless realm (well, really in the entirety of the soap world), relationships often start off sweet before devolving into a great ball of chaos.

Case in point, despite Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) being one of the most iconic couples in all of daytime, they’ve broken up and gotten back together more times than I care to count. While each makeup was more romantic than the next, the breakups in question were at a minimum chaotic and at a maximum explosive.

With that being said, we can’t help but believe that things for Claire (Hayley Erin) and Kyle (Michael Mealor) are soon going to go off the rails. Their bond started as a sweet friendship before evolving into a hot romance, but the forces against them seem to be slowly coming together to make the perfect storm, and we aren’t sure #Kylaire can survive.

Of course, Victor being against the couple is problematic enough, but he’s actively got Audra (Zuleyka Silver) doing his bidding, and she has Kyle in her sights at Cane’s (Billy Flynn) French estate. Despite Diane (Susan Walters) trying to run interference between Audra and Kyle, the two have continued to gravitate toward each other during this trip, and we think that spells trouble for him and his fidelity to Claire.

Adding to all of this, we once thought months ago that Holden’s (Nathan Owens) budding friendship with Claire would present a problem. Kyle clearly hasn’t been fond of their bonding, and we can’t say we blame him for being a little jealous. Holden and Claire definitely have a spark between them, and we’d suspect Claire would explore that if it weren’t for her loyalty to Kyle.

On that note, with Kyle out of the country, it looks like Holden will again have the opportunity to catch up with Claire in the episode airing on June 26. We think this encounter could lead to a couple of favors being exchanged between the two that could make things interesting.

From Claire’s perspective, she likely wants a shoulder to lean on to work through her emotions surrounding Cole’s (J. Eddie Peck) illness. Although he’s been diagnosed with pneumonia, we have a hunch that something else is going on with him that may later prove deadly. But in the meantime, Claire may open up to Holden about her going through this whole ordeal with her father and it being unfair considering they’ve only been able to build a bond in recent years.

Claire could also find herself struggling a bit at Chancellor with Nikki away in France. Claire is intelligent and has a solid education, but she’s never run a corporation before. We assume she’s running Chancellor for her grandmother while she’s gone, and it’s not hard to envision Claire encountering some problems. So could Holden, being unemployed and with business experience, offer Claire some helpful counsel? Sure, he could.

Speaking of Holden’s unemployment, he’s been adamant not to take any handouts from Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and the Winters clan. However, since he’s determined to stay in Genoa City, he's likely in need of a job. We won’t be surprised if he talks about his employment problems with Claire, and she offers to talk to Nikki about a role for him.

Here’s the thing: if Holden and Claire wind up working together, that means they’ll spend more time together. Could a few “working lunch dates,” late-night meetings and special projects prompt Claire and Holden to grow a connection beyond platonic?

It would be interesting to see Holden and Claire’s working bond accelerate into something more, as Audra and Kyle’s corporate rivalry competition pushes them to revisit their failed romance. We’d again be forced to ask who would cheat first, Claire or Kyle?
