Legendary atheist Dawkins to appear on Doctor Who
Doctor Who fans are in for a philosophical showdown involving a famous real-life atheist at the end of this series. Richard Dawkins is to guest star in the end of season episode. Dawkins, who is known for his best-selling work, The God Delusion, will play himself in the episode, titled Journey's End. Viewers will also see the Doctor, played by David Tennant, battling the evil Dalek creator in the finale. It seems that series producer Russell T Davies is an ardent atheist and a fan of Dawkin's work. He told the Daily Star: "He was just brilliant. He has brought atheism proudly out of the closet. "When he came on set people were falling at his feet." And it seems that the philosopher and author even managed to outshine Kylie Minogue during his cameo on the Doctor Who set. Russell added: "We've had Kylie Minogue on that set, but it was Dawkins who people were worshipping." And the 67-year-old would have been no stranger to the world of Doctor Who. He is married to actress Lalla Ward, 56, who starred in the series between 1979 and 1981. She played Romana, an assistant to the fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, during his time in the TARDIS.
