Bucking the trend of extravagant special effects targeted at a teenage audience, Cocoon with its senior cast and more personal focus was a huge success, picking up two Academy Awards – Best Visual Effects and a Best Supporting Actor gong for Don Ameche, and remains one of the most memorable and feel-good films of the 1980s.

Eureka Entertainment's special limited edition Blu-ray features a new HD transfer of the film, with optional English subtitles. The special features include audio commentary with director Ron Howard, five featurettes, TV spots, trailers and collector's booklet.
