TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Friday 13th July

Celebrity 5 Go Caravanning, 8pm. Channel 5

After sending the likes of Lesley Joseph and Melvyn Hayes on a trip in a motorhome last year, Channel 5 has upped the ante by making five showbiz favourites – Sonia, Todd Carty, Sherrie Hewson, Tony Blackburn and Colin Baker – tow some rather cumbersome caravans around UK beauty spots. Before they’ve even arrived at their first stop in the Lake District, there are satnav issues and a puncture and, after a cramped night, Sherrie and Sonia’s breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. While there are fun scenes of the five enjoying themselves on the lakes, the real joy is watching them giggle their way through every setback. Rating: *****

Jane McDonald & Friends, 9pm, Channel 5

Jane’s glittery stage is pretty jam-packed this week as she invites more celebrity mates to join her for some dazzling tunes. He may have blazed a Hollyoaks trail, but former Blue member Duncan James goes back to his music roots when he drops by for a chat and a duet. Meanwhile, former EastEnders actress-turned-singer Michelle Gayle will also be showing off some impressive vocal skills, as will talented musical theatre group and BGT winners Collabro. As usual, Jane herself will be taking to the mic to sing a song or two as well as surprising some more unsuspecting members of the public. If this unashamedly upbeat spectacular doesn’t get you in the mood for the weekend, nothing will! Rating: ****

8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, 9pm, C4

To celebrate 100 years since women got the vote, Katherine Ryan hosts this female takeover of Countdown with Roisin Conaty, Jessica Hynes, Sara Pascoe and Lolly Adefope as her guests. Female line-ups aren’t exactly revolutionary, but having more women on panel shows is great to see. And it’s funny, just like it is normally – which is kind of the point, isn’t it? Rating: ***

More previews tomorrow.
