BGT winner hopes his performance will have changed people’s opinions towards performers with a disability
Britain’s Got Talent winner Lost Voice Guy – Lee Ridley – has revealed he plans to spend some of his £250,000 winnings on getting a Geordie accent, which means he’ll sound like BGT hosts Ant & Dec!
Lee, who has cerebral palsy, became the first comedian to win in the show’s history on Sunday night.
And asked how he was going to spend his cash, Lee, who describes himself on his Twitter page as “that speechless comedian with the Ipad", said: "I'm definitely going to get a Geordie accent for my iPad because I'm sick of sounding like a posh version of Robocop."
He added: "I've been overwhelmed by the support I've received, in fact I think that's the best part of this whole experience. Everyone has shown so much love ever since my audition and I'm really very grateful for it."
Lee admitted that winning the show was “ a bit surreal”. “The whole night was incredible and it was an amazing feeling when I won. I was up against some great acts in the final so it was an honour that the public voted for me," he said on ITV show Lorraine.
He hopes that his performance will have changed people’s opinions towards performers with a disability, saying: "I'd like to think I've opened people's eyes a bit and made them realise that being disabled isn't all bad. I hope that by seeing disabled people like myself on national television some of the stigma will be taken away from disability."
Meanwhile, Lee has announced that his first two tour dates – 11th November, The Lowry, Salford and 25th November, The Stand Comedy Club, Newcastle – are on sale.
