Will Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi stay on without Steven Moffat?

When Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat announced in January that he would be stepping down, naturally the first question on everyone’s lips was: will current Doctor Peter Capaldi stay on without him?

New boss Chris Chibnall is set to take Steven’s place, but that could mean the end of Peter’s tenure as the ever-regenerating Time Lord.

When Russell T Davies left the series, then-Time Lord David Tennant also handed over the keys to the Tardis so there could be a fresh start.

Peter told the Radio Times the BBC is keen for him to stay – but he hasn’t decided yet.

“I’ve been asked to stay on but it’s such a long time before I have to make that decision,” he explained.

“Steven’s been absolutely wonderful, so I love working with him. Chris is fantastic, and I think he’s a hugely talented guy.

“I don’t know where the show’s gonna go then. I don’t know. I have to make up my mind, and I haven’t yet.”

He added: “As Steven will tell you, it’s very difficult to say goodbye.”

Chris’s first series will air in spring 2018.
