Eurovision: Andy's off to Belgrade!

Andy Abraham has won the chance to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. The 43-year-old - who was runner-up to Shayne Ward in the 2005 series of The X Factor - fought off competition from five other acts in Eurovision Your Decision on Saturday night. And he looked shocked as Terry Wogan announced he had won the public vote with his uptempo track Even If. The show saw the six finalists go head to head in three categories, with judges John Barrowman and Carrie Grant choosing one from each category to progress to the next stage. Andy originally lost out in his category to former EastEnder Michelle Gayle, but won a place in the last four after Wogan chose him as a "wildcard". Earlier in the show Carrie Grant had suggested the song was "too good for Eurovision", while John said he did a "fantastic job". The other two categories saw Any Dream Will Do finalist Rob McVeigh take on How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria's Simona Armstrong, with Simona reaching the next stage. And in the groups category, trio The Revelations beat girl group LoveShy - made up of two finalists from Popstars The Rivals, Aimee Kearsley and Emma Beard. Following the judges' decisions, the vote was then turned over to the public, with The Revelations and Simona eliminated at the next stage, leaving Andy and Michelle to fight it out for the ticket to Belgrade. This year's Eurovision Song Contest will take place in the Serbian capital on May 24, with semi-finals on May 20 and 22 to determine the final line-up. However the UK, as one of the 'Big Four' countries in the contest, has an automatic place in the final. Last year the UK finished 23rd out of 24 countries at the contest in Helsinki.
