Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to take the iconic role, gets a brand new logo to launch her reign

Doctor Who has revealed its brand new logo to launch Jodie Whittaker’s tenure in the TARDIS.

As the Doctor, Jodie Whittaker is seen as a shadowy figure under a moonlit sky in the new snaps which show the new look logo for the first time.

Also revealed was a short animation sequence which sees the TARDIS blazing a trail through the logo.

BBC Worldwide Executive Creative Director, Rafaela Perera said: “The Doctor Who logo and insignia are the quintessential signifier for the brand. Our aim was to create modern and elegant designs that were anchored in the things that we love most about Doctor Who.”

Jodie spoke her first words as the 13th Doctor – “Ahh brilliant” – in the Christmas special, which saw the end of Peter Capaldi’s reign as the Doctor.

Jodie has previously said her gender is irrelevant in the show. Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, she said: “I’m playing an alien and gender is not a part of that.

“A moment like this, of being the first woman cast as something, it makes you really think about your sex, whereas actually what you want to do is play a part where your gender is irrelevant.”

Doctor Who is expected to return later this year.
