After Saturday night’s first part of The Voice UK final, Michelle John’s part in the contest was over

Michelle John has become the first contestant to be knocked out of the final of The Voice UK.

Michelle, who has toured as a backing singer with Eric Clapton, lost in a public vote to fellow finalists Mo Adeniran, Jamie Miller and Welsh duo Into The Ark.

It means coach Jennifer Hudson will have two acts in an all-male grand final on Sunday night, while Sir Tom Jones will have one.

Michelle, who performed a duet with her coach will.i.am, as well as covering Prince’s Purple Rain on Saturday night’s show, said she “felt like a winner” despite finishing fourth in the ITV singing competition.

Fans on social media were disappointed by her departure…

The show had launched with a tribute to the late George Michael as the show’s four coaches, will.i.am, Sir Tom, Jennifer and Gavin Rossdale, performed the pop superstar’s hit track Freedom, days after he was laid to rest.

William Hill has backed Mo to take the show’s crown with the 21-year-old at 1/3, ahead of Jamie on 3/1 and Into The Ark outsiders at 7/1, while Coral have Mo at 2/5, Jamie at 3/1 and Into The Ark at 12/1.

The Voice UK grand final is on ITV, Sunday, April 2, at 7.00pm.
