I watched The Transporter on telly last Sunday and seeing the film again confirmed that it’s definitely my favourite one so far. We’ll see about the third installment. I have to get myself down to the cinema to check it out on December 5.
But what I wanted to get to was the casting for Transporter 3. I read this week that Luc Besson had spotted Statham’s new love interest Natalya Rudakova on the streets of New York. Besson: "She just passed by me and I noticed her freckles and blue eyes. I was with my assistant and I said, 'Are you seeing this?'”
Then they whisked her off to Paris for acting lessons – as they do… And Natalya didn’t really object to quitting her job at a hair salon – as if she would…
And I’m just left feeling really annoyed, because had I known the role was open to anyone, I would’ve had my agent make some phone calls. I may not have freckles, blue eyes and a rude surname, but I have a distinguished history in The Theatre and wouldn’t need any Besson-lessons. I have my own Method.
I could play the love interest...
Or I could be the psycho chick with the gun-fetish and the Russian accent...
There will be a petition going around to make me the female star of the fourth movie and I expect you all to sign it. In the meantime, between my martial arts lessons and sessions at the shooting range, I guess I have to keep writing - while polishing my gun collection.
Another martial artist who is getting his film career going is Jaden Smith, Will Smith’s kid, who starred alongside his dad in the painfully smaltzy The Pursuit of Happyness.
Columbia Pictures is jumping on the 80s bandwagon and has hired scriptwriter Chris Murphy to pen a remake of The Karate Kid – he wrote the 1984 original. Jaden will star, Daddy Smith will help produce and (as pretty much everything is made in China these days) filming should start next year - in Beijing.

I was lucky enough to catch it in the cinema while on holiday and I have to say, I was on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. In that Bourne kind of way, the movie keeps a fast pace with lots of action and never lets up.
Then I read this article in The Guardian today about the CIAs involvement in the Hollywood film industry. And it just made me rethink the whole movie. And it made me paranoid.
I'm going to suppress any conspiracy theories by vegging out on the sofa now and watch celebrities embarrass themselves in the name of charity. Good old Children in Need!
