Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner have become a couple

Fans of BBC1’s hit sitcom Outnumbered are over the moon about the news that Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner – who play the show’s struggling mum and dad – have got together in real life!

In Outnumbered, which started in 2007, Hugh and Claire play Pete and Sue Brockman, who try to keep their three kids –  Jake (Tyger Drew-Honey), Ben (Daniel Roche) and Karen (Ramona Marquez) in order.

Now, Hugh has revealed to The Mail On Sunday that he is romantically involved with Claire.

Hugh said: “I am very, very happy, we are so very happy. It’s nice and yes, it’s so lovely.”

Outnumbered fans took to Twitter to express their delight at the news, with comedian Richard Herring quipping: “I will only be truly happy if the Outnumbered parents actually adopt the three kids from the TV show in real life too.”

Summing up the mood, one said: "Absolutely LOVE that Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner (the parents from Outnumbered) are together in real life now. How cute is that?! Proper made me smile." Another said: "As if these two have got together in real life! Brilliant."

Outnumbered was last on our screens for the 2016 Christmas special and Hugh told us last year that he was hopeful the show would return.

“Hopefully there will be more Outnumbered in some form at some point. I really would like to do more, it’s a lovely thing to do and it does feel like going home,” he said.

And he laughed that he could never get over how much the kids have grown. “It doesn’t seem to matter how long it has been since the last series, you walk into the room and go, ‘Oh look, it’s my children’. I don’t really recognise them though! I still have to get used to the height and size they are now and I think, ‘Well I won’t be lifting you up!'”

Surely we haven't seen the last of the award-winning sitcom...
