Perri Kiely, Michaela Strachan win first Splash! heat

The new series of Splash! is underway, with Diversity's Perri Kiely and TV presenter Michaela Strachan the first two celebrities to make it through to the semi-final.

Perri made it straight through after winning the public vote on Saturday night's show with a daring backwards dive from the 10-metre board.

Meanwhile Michaela was chosen by the judging panel ahead of TOWIE star Gemma Collins after both had dived again in the 'Splash-off'.

Former EastEnder Ricky Groves and Hollyoaks' Gemma Merna were knocked out of the competition after failing to win enough votes.

Perri, who is the favourite to win the series, wowed the judges with his efforts - particularly Andy Banks, who told him: "You went on the top board, went backwards, somersaulted...that entry was sick."

However former Olympic diver Leon Taylor expressed doubts about his performance, saying: "That was a stunt dive...I am a little disappointed, I think there is so much more."

Michaela, on the other hand, won Leon's seal of approval with her inward dive with tuck which kicked off the show.

"You are not messing around, you could have done something a lot safer," he pointed out.

Meanwhile Jo Brand described her efforts as "like a lively little leprechaun leaping into a lake of loveliness...amazing."

Elsewhere on the show Gemma Collins showed just how challenging the whole experience had been when she revealed her badly bruised boobs to co-presenter Gabby Logan.

The reality star went on to win herself the respect of both judges and audience with her forward pike fall.

Next weekend's show will see Paul Ross, Toyah Wilcox, Martin Offiah and Anna Williamson among those taking part.
