Philip Glenister stars in new Manchester-set family epic

Life on Mars star Philip Glenister heads the cast of BBC1’s new epic drama From Here To There, set over four years in Manchester.

Bernard Hill (Lord Of The Rings), Steven Mackintosh (Inside Men), Saskia Reeves (Luther), Liz White (Life On Mars), Daniel Rigby (Big School) and Morven Christie (Hunted) are also confirmed to star.

The three-part drama, which begins in June 1996, when an IRA bomb decimated Manchester City Centre, and ends with the Millennium celebrations of 2000, tells the story of two families caught up in the unique trials and triumphs of the times.

Also set against the backdrop of 1996’s European Championships football fever and Labour’s rise to power in 1997, Bernard Hill stars as Samuel Cotton, father to Daniel (Philip) and Robbo (Steven), who survive the blast but are forever changed by it.

Written by Peter Bowker and directed by Broadchurch’s James Strong, filming on From Here to There is currently underway in Manchester.

Philip said: "I'm really excited to be involved in such a terrific new drama written by Peter Bowker. Also to be working alongside such an outstanding cast and crew. And of course to be back filming in my adopted home town of Manc!"
