Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan reunite for The Trip to Spain (on Sky Atlantic)

Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan’s acclaimed TV show The Trip will be moving home from the BBC to Sky Atlantic.

The first two seasons, screened on BBC Two, followed the comedians playing fictionalised versions of themselves on a culinary quest through northern England and then travelling in the footsteps of the Romantic poets on a Grand Tour through Italy.

The third series, The Trip To Spain, has now been picked up by Sky and will see the two embark on a gastronomic journey from the north Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast, taking in restaurants in Cantabria, the Basque region, Aragon, Rioja, Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia.

Steve said: “Having thought long and hard about yet another sojourn into culinary distractions and middle age, I have reluctantly agreed to Eviva Espana. I have a hole in my diary, there will be free food and accommodation and Rob Brydon is surprisingly good company. I also like Michael (Winterbottom).”

Rob simply stated: “I’m looking forward to reuniting with Steve and Michael for The Trip To Spain.”

The first series was nominated for best situation comedy at the 2011 television Baftas and Steve won for best male comedy performance.

Yes, The Trip is returning, this time to Spain via Sky Atlantic. Shooting in the Autumn. Hurrah!

The comedians will reunite to film the six-episode show later this year, three years after their last trip together on the continent.

The road-trip comedy will also reunite creator and director Michael – who directed Rob and Steve in 2005 film A Cock And Bull Story – and producers Melissa Parmenter and Josh Hyams.
