Property expert Sarah Beeny reveals her telly loves, new presenting role on Four Rooms, and plans for the future. Do Ant and Dec need to watch out?

Sarah Beeny is full of surprises! What’s on TV caught up with the property guru to chat about her new role as the presenter of Four Rooms. Along the way Sarah revealed her love of Mock The Week’s Irish star, Dara O’Briain, and her dreams of co-hosting I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! with Ant and Dec.

Was Four Rooms an easy job to say yes to? "I’ve been approached by various other shows in the past and I’m bit picky about what I do. But I really love Four Rooms. So when they asked me, I had to – a studio show is something I’ve never done before. It was really fun."

You’re a Four Rooms insider now. Tell us, how competitive do the dealers get on the show? "The dealers get on really well and have a real laugh. But they do get competitive and can get cross with each other! There’s some excellent banter between them. They’re competitive because their agenda is to make a profit, but they’re good sports too."

In the new series people bring some great things to the studio, including a rare, signed copy of Churchill’s book, Savrola, and an original 1972 Elvis Las Vegas banner. Was there anything you wanted to keep? "There were two life-sized bronze Samurai warriors. My kids would have loved me for the rest of my life if I’d taken them home. Fortunately, I wasn’t in a position to buy them, so I didn’t have to explain to my husband I’d got carried away because they’re really cool!"

Do you tend to get recognised when you’re out and about? "Sometimes and its always been really lovely. People tend to ask me questions about things I can’t answer like – should I paint my kitchen yellow? Or, Should I put an extension on my back or side wall? I haven’t got a clue!"

Property Ladder was a massive hit. Have you any new property shows planned? "I’ve been focusing on Tiplo because that’s such a fast moving business. But I’ve had lots of talking about TV because I would like to do more telly now. The stuff we’re talking about, we’re going to start filming in September, which will be exciting!"

Have you been offered any reality TV? "Yes, but I think everyone is. Probably nothing I’d consider doing. I wouldn’t mind co-presenting I’m a Celeb because Ant and Dec are brilliant geniuses… but I don’t suppose they’d want to co-present with me, so that’s the end of that!"

What TV do you like to watch? "I watch a lot of Mock the Week. I like a Mock the Week fix before I go to bed. It’s like having Horlicks. I love it, it always makes me laugh. Dara O’Briain is an absolute genius. He’s what I call ‘proper bedtime watching’."

Catch Sarah on the new series of Four Rooms on August 22nd at 9pm on More4.

Mock the Week returns to BBC2 in a new Friday night slot from the 9th of September. Someone tell Sarah!
