Whitney Houston TV movie gets UK air date

It's been almost three years since the death of Whitney Houston. But the life of the pop megastar definitely hasn't been forgotten.

Whitney, a new TV movie dramatises the whirlwind romance - and later marriage between Whitney Houston (played by Yaya DaCosta, who was once a runner-up on America's Next Top Model) and Bobby Brown. The story is set to a soundtrack of some of Whitney's biggest hits including The Greatest Love Of All, I'm Every Woman and I Will Always Love You.

However, the movie has upset Whitney's family who weren't involved in the making of it. The late singer's sister-in-law, Pat Houston issued an official statement on behalf of the family, slamming the movie:

"If you watch this move, watch it knowing that Lifetime is notorious for making bad biopics of deceased celebrities and brace yourself for the worst."

Even so, the movie got record-breaking viewing figures when it was shown in America this month. UK viewers can see it for themselves when Whitney premieres on Lifetime, Thursday 12th February at 9pm.

Simon has long been a fan of soap operas, and especially loves OVER-THE-TOP plots involving evil twins, hair-pulling catfights and natural disasters. Anyone remember the Sunset Beach earthquake/tidal wave? Or when Krystle Carrington got locked in the attic and replaced by look-a-like Rita in Dynasty?!

Simon has written for a variety of TV and childrens’ magazines/websites including Inside Soap, Nickelodeon, What’s On TV, Radio Times, Metro, Girl Talk, Disney Girl, Toxic! and Digital Spy. He has reported LIVE from the red carpet at The British Soap Awards interviewing glammed-up stars from soapland, and hosted a Facebook LIVE session for Metro with Home and Away legend Ray Meagher (Alf "Stone the flamin' crows!" Stewart) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Aussie soap.

Simon is also co-author of The Treasures Of Coronation Street (Carlton Books)

And the writer and director of (very!) low budget fright flick, Midsummer Night's EVIL and the sequel webisodes series, The Hatchet Woods HORROR.
