Following the announcement that Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat is stepping down from the role, Matt Smith, who played the 11th Doctor in the long-running series, has shared his feelings about the news…

Matt, who took over the role as the Time Lord from David Tennant, starred in the fifth series of the show at the same time that Moffat took the reins from the previous show runner Russell T Davies.

While promoting his new film Pride & Prejudice and Zombies, Smith was interviewed for Doctor Who fan programme The Timey Wimey Show and asked what he thought about Moffat’s departure.

“I’m sad he’s leaving Doctor Who, I think he’s done so much for it and so much for me,” said Smith, who was joined by his movie co-star Douglas Booth.

“I just feel very privileged that I got to work with what I think is the greatest writer, one of the greatest writers to have been involved in that show. I can’t wait to see what he does next”.
